Speaker 1 (00:00):
Let me read off to you the number of runs
scored by the Seattle Mariners since let's go back to
May the twenty, all right, against the Chicago White Sox. Now,
are the Chicago White Socks a good team? Are horrible? Okay?
Are the Washington national is a good team? They are bad?
Minnesota Twins they're they're solid, Baltimore Orioles. This year bad?
(00:23):
Normally good, this year bad. A lot of bad teams
in there, right, Jackson, here's the here's the offensive runs
produced by your Los Mariners no zero two one five
six three nine against Washington hanaway zero three four six
(00:46):
two one two. That is two runs or less in
one two three four five six games, about half their
games and twenty five percent of the run since the
start of mayor thanks to cal Rawley. That's right. And
one hundred percent of the runs today were thanks to
cal Raley, who had a single down the line, and
(01:08):
he had a home run, and for some reason, the
pitcher decided to throw to cal Raley with two outs
and a runner on third after giving him crap for
two or three pitches, like, let's just put one in
the middle of the plate to see what cal Ray
can do with it, and sure is crap he threw
he caught it out of there. And at the time,
you were thinking Cal won the game for us. Honestly,
(01:31):
at that time, I was thinking, all right, I know
we blew the game last night. The bullpen was crappy,
but Cal's you know, that was enough to get it
done today and and we're gonna We're gonna get the win.
And that did not happen, as the Mariners lose four
to three today, so they get swept by Baltimore after
winning two of three against Minnesota. But we talked about
(01:53):
this on Monday. I mean, it was a very tenuous
two games that they won on Saturday Sunday five to
four and eleven on Saturday and two to one on Sunday.
And then the offense just completely fails to show up
in this series as they score a total of six
runs against the Baltimore Orioles in this series. And I mean,
(02:18):
this is honestly why I texted before the game. I mean,
when I'm wrong, I'm wrong. Here's what I tweeted, literally
two minutes before first pitch. The Mariners are winning today.
This is what they do. They get our hopes up
and then they go on a skid. But when all
looks lost like it did at twelve thirty to day
(02:39):
before the game, yeah, that's when they get in.
Speaker 2 (02:42):
You could still absolutely be right because they could go
and sweep the angels and everything will be you know,
sunshine and rainbows. But at this moment, I mean, London
is falling, Rome is falling, Seattle is falling. I mean,
like Dick, this is this is a putrid offense right now.
In what was a month ago, we looked it and saying,
oh my gosh, you know, is this sustainable? And we
(03:03):
thought it was. How many times did we have a
conversation the three of us, including Softie, that said is
this sustainable? We think it is because of Xyz and
all that sustainability has fallen apart because now.
Speaker 1 (03:14):
They're just relying on the long ball.
Speaker 2 (03:16):
And we've seen it over the course of this homestand
where they went three and six and it really was
I mean, yes, they won the extra inning games over
the weekend because of some small ball plays, but you
already get a runner at second.
Speaker 1 (03:26):
I don't count that.
Speaker 2 (03:27):
You were lying on the homers for most of the
game and today too, and you just can't get away
with that.
Speaker 1 (03:35):
This was the sixty game mark after yesterday's game. Games
number sixty one today, and Mike Farrell tweeted out today
he did the research so I didn't have to, because
I was actually just about ready to dive into this
research because I knew. I was like, God, is first
half of this season if if you just treat this
as a full sixty game season. First half. I remember
saying that we were really good offensively, like I remember
(03:57):
saying we were top five in all of baseball on offense,
and I wanted to go check. And literally ten minutes
before I started doing that, I'm sifting through Twitter, and
it's like Mike Reel's nice, Mike Kekes, Mike, I appreciate
that Mariner's first thirty games this does not include today,
which I'm sure it did not help these numbers, all right,
first thirty games runs fifth in baseball on base percentage,
(04:18):
first in baseball based on Ball's percentage, first in baseball,
slugging sixth ops fifth. They were, without any doubt, a
top five offense in Major League Baseball. Now, none of
us thought they that was going to continue, right, but
we all thought. I thought it was good. We still
(04:39):
thought it was good. We still thought it was going
to be an improvement over what we saw last year,
big time, right, And so yeah, it's gonna slide a
little bit, but it's but the pitching's gonna yo. If
guys are gonna get healthy, the pitching's gonna come back.
Mariner's last thirty games, not including today because this would
be game number thirty one runs twenty first. Based on
ball percentage twenty first, they have gone from first to
(05:03):
twenty first in the amount of times they walk, on
base percentage they have gone from first to twenty seventh,
slugging percentage six to twenty second, and on base plus
slugging fifth to twenty fifth. They are basically now exactly
the offense they were last year. And to your point,
(05:24):
you just brought up a couple mins school, they look
like that team last year now and that there's just
not as much there's not as much discipline at the plate,
and we've only got two guys right now that are
carrying this offense. You got JP at the top, and
he got cal Rawly wherever they decide to put cal
Ralely that that particular day, and usually fourth or what
(05:44):
have you, and Julio another zero for four day today.
Speaker 2 (05:48):
It's funny because I think we've all gotten accustomed to
this team heating up as the summer goes on, and
you know, a bad April turned into a good May.
It's it's weird seeing it flipped. But at the end
of the day, yeah, amazing ever good. So I'm gonna
stop you there. They don't heat up until like late June, Jewels.
The point I'm making is like when it heats up,
the offense heats Yes, I got you, and sort of
(06:08):
like we've been accustomed to this, and maybe they still
will heat up and get back to the April that
just seems such a weird April. But at the end
of the day, I mean, it's just the old Dennis
Green line. We are who they are, who we thought
they were. I mean, this is the Mariner offense that
going into April in middle of March, when our conversations
around the Mariners and I was saying how apathetic I
(06:29):
was about this baseball team, and they had to convince
me because this is the offense I expected. This is
the offense A lot of Mariners fans expected it to
just be flailing, relying on the long ball and not
able to get a lot done. And this is exactly
the problem that a lot of us had, which is
are at Mariners. You needed to go and make a
move in the offseason. You had to go add not
(06:51):
even just an aircraft carrier, but you had to go
add a big piece that could help you know if
you're gonna play the long ball game, sustain your long
ball offense, or at least help out the small ball.
And your big move was Jorge Polanco. And for a
month that looks great. But again, Jorge Polanco, it's the
Dennis Green line. He is who he thought he was.
He's the same player he was last season. We're not
(07:12):
seeing any improvement. So I said it with you guys yesterday,
like I don't know how much longer I give this guy,
but at a certain point we're not gonna be able
to move him at the deadline.
Speaker 1 (07:22):
So we're just gonna have to cut our losses well.
And then let's look at Let's look at yesterday's game
for a second, because we really have two games to
talk about since our last ye's true, we have got
yesterday's game where they couldn't hold the lead and Emerson
Hancock looked fantastic. I know he's my guy, and he
looked fantastic yesterday in eighty nine pitches. I understand he
gave up a home run, the first real hard hit
(07:43):
ball off him. He gave up a home run, and
then we automatically go into left versus right mode. And
I know the numbers say bring in Gabe Spier when
you bring him in, the numbers say that you needed
the right hander in Vargas when you brought it. Now,
I don't understand why Carlos Vargas is a pitcher that
(08:06):
should be pitching in high leverage situations. Maybe it's just
because you don't have anybody else. I mean, really, you
have Spire, you have Brash, and you have Munhos. That's
really all you've got, Carlo. And they used Lega Mina
last week in high leverage situations, and then they sent
Legomina to Triple A before we just brought back because
Colin Snyder got hurt. So yeah, they think so much
(08:28):
of Legamina that they put him in high leverage situations,
I believe, in two consecutive games last week, and then
they sent him to Coma. There's like no middle ground.
You're either a high leverage guy or you're a triple
A guy. And then yesterday, the problem with taking a
handcock out after eighty nine pitches, you got ten outs
to get and only Spire, Brash and Munos to do it.
(08:52):
That's some heavy lifting. And they weren't able to even
get to Munyos inspired. You know, Spire gave up a run,
that Vargas gave up a run, Brash did what Brash does,
and that's pitch a scoreless inning. And and you didn't
even get to Munyos yesterday exactly.
Speaker 2 (09:06):
And that's the frustrating part. Hey, Dick, I we're thirteen
minutes after the top of the hour. I will I'll
take full responsibility for this, even though it's on both
of us. I'll take full responsibility that I didn't hit
this before the update with one hundred bucks.
Speaker 3 (09:19):
Now, text your first and last name, Man City to
four nine Tower by the m Queen Casino, the Penny
Capital of the Northwest, Egco. Thursday on Sports Radio ninety
three point three kJ r FM.
Speaker 1 (09:33):
All right, let's go perfect for the day. But in
order to go perfect for the day, you have to
get the first one right. Yes, so we need Bobby
James from Everett. Bobby James from Ever, two hundred dollars
is on the line, Bobby. Oh, they failed in the
two o'clock hour. Huh they did a couple on Monday
(09:53):
last Thursday.
Speaker 2 (09:54):
A failure for for us to not do it at
the top of the hour, that's but hey, we're getting
it right now, so we have it to the rest
of the the rest of this segment here to get
Bobby James from Ever to.
Speaker 1 (10:02):
Call Bobby James from Everett. Call Jackson right now at
two o six two eight six, nine, five nine five
and win not one hundred, but two hundred dollars of
the e QCES money and start us off into a
perfect four for four show here on ninety three point
three kJ RFM. Okay, back to Mariners. Sorry about that.
I feel better talking about Bobby James than I do
(10:24):
talking about.
Speaker 2 (10:24):
The Marriers, Bob, Bobby perfectly baseball success, Bobby, this is.
Speaker 1 (10:30):
This is baseball though I I and this is what
eighty five to ninety win teams do. And I still
think that's what the Mariners are. The Mariners if they
don't do anything at the deadline, which I don't think
is going to happen. And if the Mariners don't get
their starting pitchers back to the level that they were
pitching last year, that's all they are. They're they're an
(10:53):
eighty five win team. If they can get their starting
pitchers back to Kirby being Kirby, Miller being Miller, Gilbert
and Gilbert, then I think they're a ninety ish win team,
eighty eight to ninety win team, even if they don't
do anything of significance to the deadline. If they want
to be a legitimate force, they need both of those
things to happen. They need those pitchers to come back,
(11:15):
and they need to make significant moves. And significant moves
means at least one, preferably two, high leverage relievers at
the trade deadline, which are all over the place. It
is the most it is probably the easiest thing to
do in all of sports trade deadline is to find
(11:36):
good relievers at the trade deadline, because you're if you're
a thirty and sixty win baseball team, why in the
world you need a high leverage reliever. You don't. You
don't need your closer, you don't need your eighth inning guy,
especially if they're on one year contract. So those guys
are easy to come by. We had great Rey Santos
last year, where those guys are easy to come by.
(11:57):
Now he hasn't stayed healthy, but at least he was
a talented guy. And you've got to get at least one,
if not two bats. If you don't do that at
the trade deadline, then you're just telling me, and you're
telling the rest of the Mariner fan base that once again,
we are just satisfied with eighty eight to ninety wins.
(12:17):
The whole fifty four are going he's gonna come up again.
Thank you for taking the words out of the hut
and and that's you're just showing us and don't give us,
don't give us the whole. Don't give us the whole. Well,
we tried, but teams were just asking for too much. Well,
if you're going for a championship, sometimes you got to
(12:38):
give up too much, particularly if you're bringing in a
guy that has two or three years left on his
contract that is going to help you not only this year,
but two more years down the road and help support
Cal and Julio and JP and give you another offensive
piece to that puzzle.
Speaker 2 (12:55):
And the reality is that piece may cost you a
little bit, But right now, they're just prospects. And i'd
like to everyone of the Luis Castillo deal and none
of the players that we gave up, which there were
a couple of high rand guys, they've done absolutely nothing
in Cincinnati. So prospects are prospects. They aren't real talent
until they make it to the big leagues and actually perform.
I mean, the reality is like Cole Young, right Cole
(13:17):
Young is a future middle infielder for the Mariners, and.
Speaker 1 (13:19):
That's a hope by all of us.
Speaker 2 (13:22):
But right now he's still a young player trying to
work his way into being a luck you know in guy.
Speaker 1 (13:27):
Maybe he doesn't become that. He looks like he could,
but maybe he doesn't.
Speaker 2 (13:31):
So you might as well to go out and make
one of these deals to get you a right now guy, unless,
as you just said, and I think this is the
other eventuality is is Jerry Depoto does what he did
a couple of years ago and says, at the deadline
coming up, you know, in a month from now, he
says to himself, a month and a half, says himself,
you know, we've been just playing five hundred baseball for
the last two months. You know, we had a great April,
(13:52):
but we just aren't, you know, that kind of team.
I don't think we're So I'm just going to, you know,
make a couple of middling moves because I don't believe
that we're a contender. And you know, Jerry to Poto,
you were flat out wrong two years.
Speaker 1 (14:05):
He's been wrong every I mean, they've been in it
every year exactly. So he just should assume, regardless of
the record, regardless if they're forty five and forty four
and three games out of the wild Guard, he should
just assume, right, the Maritners always played better baseball in
August in September, Jerry, make the damn move justin because
(14:26):
we're going to be in it.
Speaker 2 (14:26):
We know how this team performs in August. We just
always see it. So why not even though you don't
think you may be in it, even though you think, oh, well,
the such and such may went like this, June went
like this, Make the move and also insert belief into
US fans, because right now I'm getting dangerously close to that.
I'm angry right now, I'm furious at this baseball team.
(14:48):
But as the further I go and the more furious.
I get the closer to apathy, I also get don't
let me get there, Jerry, don't let.
Speaker 1 (14:55):
Me get there, justin I don't want to go there again.
When did you get back on the wagon because you
were apathetic at the beginning the season? End of April?
End of April?
Speaker 2 (15:01):
When I when I when we finished the month of April,
and I said to myself, you know what, Mariners, You've
done enough. You've captured my attention back. I'm gonna bow
after April. But you know what, I've just been mad
since i've been there. Well, you mentioned you mentioned.
Speaker 1 (15:14):
Cole Young, and and I don't know the answer to
this question because I'm not a major league baseball general manager,
but I'm just gonna ask your opinion is Cole Young?
Does Cole Young have more trade value now after hitting
OH sixty seven in the major leagues for a week
and a half but showing a good glove, really good gloves? Yeah?
(15:35):
Or does Cole Young have less value hitting OH sixty
seven for a week and a half that's about showing
a week love. I don't know. I mean, I think
the answer probably is about the same. It's probably not
significantly more, Probably not significantly less. But that's the danger
of bringing these guys up prior to the deadline. And
(15:56):
that's why I'm thinking, maybe it's just better to lie
Harry Ford rake. Let him rake for two more months
in Tacoma, let his ops be a thousand, let his
batting average be three twenty in Tacoma. You're not gonna
use him at catcher here for years anyway, though. And
if I don't know, and if there's a if there's
(16:18):
a if there's a team out there that sees Harry
Ford as like their legitimate catcher for a decade, then
you should be able to get a really quality middle
of the lineup hitter for that that has maybe just
a couple of years left on his contract. All Right,
we'll continue this, Dan will Away, Bobby James did call back.
(16:41):
He's won two hundred dollars. That's Bobby. That's how we
roll here on the Afternoon Show three twenty one on
ninety three point three KJRFM. When we come back, we'll
hear from the Skipper. And speaking of the Skipper, I
threw a poll out today about said Dan Wilson and
his job approval rating. Will tell you what you said
next on ninety three point three KJRFM PAD casting live
(17:03):
from the R and R Foundation Specialist Broadcast Studio.
Speaker 3 (17:07):
Now back to Saftie and Dig powered by Emerald Queen Casino,
the Betty and Capital of the Northwest. On Sports Radio
nineties three point three kjr FF.
Speaker 1 (17:18):
The Baltimore Orioles came into Seattle three days ago with
a twenty two and thirty six record and ten and
nineteen away from home, and they proceeded to win, win,
and win against your Seattle Mariners who are now thirty
two and twenty nine and have a losing record at
(17:40):
T Mobile Park sixteen and seventeen. And here to talk
about it, the Skipper d Animals.
Speaker 4 (17:46):
You know, another close one today, another tough one. You know,
I saw a lot of good things out there today
from Brian wu threw the ball well, you know, just
to back to back homers there in the sixth. But
you know, outside of that, you know, really you know,
controlled that lineup pretty well. You know, defense behind him
(18:07):
again very solid and uh you know, offensively able to
punch through a couple to create some traffic. You know,
we're able to get on you know, a couple of
cash in on a couple of them. Cal obviously another
huge day for him, and uh but you know, all
all sudden done, it's it comes up a little short.
This is a you know, a series, a tough, a
(18:30):
tough series, a lot of close ones. But you know,
we move on from this, we go on the road
and uh, you know, we turned the page.
Speaker 1 (18:38):
Third time through the lineup.
Speaker 4 (18:39):
What you see from MoU in that sixth sitting there
a couple of borderline pitches that looked like to holiday league. Yeah,
you know, he seemed pretty strong to me. Still, I
thought he had had a lot left in the tank.
And and you know, I thought he was continuing to
throw the ball. Well you know, Rutchman gets one off
the top of the wall, you know, and uh, you know,
(19:01):
the balls just not bouncing our way. And and that's
still those are the tough ones to swallow. But uh,
you know, again we take this one, moving on, learn
some things. But move on from here. What do you learn?
You know, we learn you know, uh, just uh, you know,
how how tough these guys can be, how tough these
(19:23):
guys you know have been. And you know, I know
it's it's it's a great group in there, and and uh,
they're going to be back and and uh they'll come
out swinging.
Speaker 5 (19:33):
You guys entered today having played sixty games, and the
first thirty games offensively have been a lot different statistically
than the last thirty games. And just what do you
think there's been so hard to carry that over from
an approach or results standpoint.
Speaker 4 (19:45):
I mean, that's baseball. It's you know, it's it's can
be an up and down game at times, and and
you know it's it's that's the way it is sometimes.
But uh, you know, I think this team again, with
the spirit they have, the heart they have, you know,
we'll be back and and uh, you know this is
we still have a long way to go, and and
(20:07):
uh you know we're gonna get started here once we
turn the page on this and get started on the road.
Speaker 2 (20:12):
This is the.
Speaker 6 (20:13):
Second home stand for you guys, where you're coming off
a really successful road trip and and finished with a
losing record at home during that stretch. Is is there
an extra advid pressure for these guys, you know, coming
back home after such good wins on the road and
just wanted to perform.
Speaker 1 (20:27):
From the hope.
Speaker 4 (20:28):
I don't know if there's there's pressure, you know, I
think each game brings us own pressure. I don't know that,
you know, it stacks up or whatever. You know, we
go out there, we prepare every night. These guys are
prepared to play. They're prepared to do what they do.
It doesn't matter if they're on the road, if they're
at home. And uh, you know, it just so happens that,
you know this, a couple of these didn't go our way.
Speaker 1 (20:51):
Well, the three run sixth inning was the pivotal inning.
And you know, Brian Wu had been rolling. I mean
he retired the side in order in the fourth with
a strikeout, He retired the side in the fifth with
the strikeout. I mean he was just in cruise mode.
And it looks like it looked like Brian Wu was
(21:11):
going to pitch another six plus inning outing and getting
and get another win, because you know, he continues his
six plus inning outing streak, which is the longest in
Major League Baseball. He's the only pitcher to go all year,
along with Paul Skeens six innings or more. But you know,
it rings hollow when you don't get the victory. He
walked holiday to lead off the sixth. Then Adleie Ritchman
(21:33):
homered and then Gunnar Henderson homeard. So but to Dan's credit,
I like the fact that he left him in and
he got o'hearne striking out, Carlson flied out, Caerstad lined out,
so he was able to get out of the sixth
inning after giving up those three and then Carlos Vargas
came in again, and you know, he was fine in
the seventh inning, was not fine yesterday when he pitched.
(21:56):
But you know, you know, it's funny when you look
at your manager, you either you know that your manager
doesn't have as much of an impact on the game
as your head football coach. Right, so your head, you
look at your head football coach more in the in
the the front frame of reference stuff. Is he good
or is he not good at his job? Right? Where's
(22:18):
your baseball manager? It's almost like do you like him
or do you knowledge? Did you believe in him? Or
do you not believe him? Yeah? It is and and
with and it's it's kind of that way with the
you know, the president of the United State, whore every
president is, there's gonna be half the country that every
time they see him, they're gonna be like yeah, and
every time and the other half of the country. Every
time they see, they're gonna like. And that's kind of
(22:39):
been the way it's been with me and the Mayri
and her manager of the last ten years. Every time
I saw Scott's service, I just went god.
Speaker 2 (22:47):
Also because he behaved a certain way when he was
on this Yes he did that didn't That didn't help
his cause either.
Speaker 1 (22:52):
But every time I see Dan Wilson, I don't know
if he's a competent manager. He's only managed for four months.
But every time I see him, at least I don't
go you know, I like him. I like him as
a person. I'm root for him. Well do we believe
in him? And I put out on Twitter ray dan
Wilson's first four months of baseball as a manager, because
(23:15):
he's done. This was before the game today. Okay, so
he's done half of August, September, good end of the
season list, you know, April, May, and now a touch
of June. Not half a June, but a touch of June.
It's almost four months of baseball. How do you think
I put ABC and then DF because we only have
(23:35):
four choices. Yeah, so ABC, D RF, Where would you vote?
And how do you think the votes have gone so far.
Speaker 2 (23:41):
I would right along the line. I would vote between
B minus and C plus. I'd probably go B minus.
I would guess the people also went B, but I'd
be right on that line. From So, I'm going to
take a wild guess that like fifty percent of people
said B, and like thirty percent of people said see.
Speaker 1 (24:00):
The three you you are dead on? Really fifty percent B,
whoh forty C. So a vast majority says somewhere in
the middle but slightly positive to the somewhere in the
middle right six percent DF and only four percent A.
And So I guess I mean, I would think maybe,
(24:23):
unless your team is terrible or awesome, that that's probably
where most managers will be get ranked by their by
their fan bases, because I think most fans realize that, hey,
how much can a manager really impact the game? Can't?
I mean, he's he gonna get lucky and put in
the right pinch hitter in a tie ball game and
the guy hits a home run? Is he gonna? I
think he can probably impact the game the most by
(24:43):
how he uses his bullpen at the tail end of games,
but he's also limited by the dudes that he has
to put in and if all you got is Carlos
Vargas in a in a close game situation and you're
just hoping that the guy with the nasty stuff can
and actually get a big out, which he honestly has
not done in his major league baseball career, as proven
(25:05):
by the let's see thirty four innings career, Carlos Vargas
is pitched. He has allowed fifty five base runners in
thirty four not good fifty five base runners, and he
is pitching in almost every single close game out. That's
I sort of.
Speaker 2 (25:20):
Like, we believe some people believe in Dan Wilson, but
I don't think he believes in his pitchers when they're
doing that. And more overly, I think we can all agree,
like you said, we like Dan Wilson. We all very
much like Dan Wilson. The question of who believes in
him and who doesn't believe in him is divided. But
like it's sort of like I pulled this from from
the what we just played.
Speaker 1 (25:41):
Yes, And my favorite part of the interview is is
that what are you thinking? What I'm thinking? That My
favorite part of the interview, which was he was asked
like what did you learn or something like it.
Speaker 5 (25:49):
Is, what do you learn?
Speaker 7 (25:51):
You know?
Speaker 1 (25:52):
We learn?
Speaker 5 (25:53):
You know.
Speaker 4 (25:55):
Just uh, you know, how tough these guys can, how
tough these guys you know have been.
Speaker 1 (26:03):
I love you, Danny, I like you a lot.
Speaker 2 (26:05):
But I'm like, when I hear that, I'm not sure
if I believe in Dan Wilson.
Speaker 1 (26:09):
Well, because didn't he say that we learned a lot
of things? And that prompted that question, what do you learn?
See if that was if that was just a question
out of no exactly like, yeah, you know, that's a
good point. Let me the context, Yeah, let me let
me give the context. Let's pull it back here to this.
I have no idea what I'm about to play.
Speaker 4 (26:23):
Let's see if this was and and that's those are
the tough ones to swallow. But you know, again we
take this one, moving on, learn some things, but but
move on from here. What do you learn? You know,
we learn you know, uh just uh you.
Speaker 1 (26:40):
Know, yeah, I'll just pull from that. I mean, that's it.
I'm gonna give him. I'm gonna give him the benefit
of being a manager for four months in his life. Right,
He's just like, we'll give him the benefit of that one.
Speaker 2 (26:51):
I'm sorry, but like we have as Mariner fans and
as people on radio right now at this moment, we
have to just judge off of what seeing and hearing.
Speaker 1 (27:01):
And I'm sorry, Danny. I like you, I really like you.
Speaker 2 (27:04):
I love you as a fan of this baseball team
my entire life, But I'm that kind of stuff.
Speaker 1 (27:10):
It makes me hard to believe in you, buddy. Well,
it's the things I like. I like that he does
have slots for his relievers, whereas like at times it
looked like Scott Servis literally had every name of every
reliever in a hat and he would just pull it
out in different situations. And then and Dan. And then
(27:32):
Dan actually slots his offensive lineup fairly consistently, where again
it looked like Scott Servis sometimes just pulled the lineup
out of a hat. So I do like that about Dan.
I wasn't a big fan of Dan not standing up
for JP when he was gonna get tossed last week,
and he just kind of like pushed him along and
send him back over. But I don't know, things will
turn around. I promise you this is a above average
(27:54):
baseball team. They are going to finish with an above
average record. How far above average. That record is all
gonna be determined by two things, the health of this
pitching staff, starting pitching staff, and if they get more
offense and one more at least one more lever at
the deadline. Three forty on ninety three point three KJRFM.
We have fun with audio coming out next. It's now
(28:15):
time for soft Day and Diggs one with audio. Jimmy
g porn Star, Jimmy mister garoppolo. Now let's have some
fun with audio. Oh, let's have some fun Jackson, because
I don't know how much fun ripping on the Marriagers
for the last thirty five minutes forty five minutes. I
mean it was necessary sometimes on the air you just
(28:35):
have to do us necessary, but it's not necessarily fun.
Speaker 2 (28:38):
And again, like we we like Dan Wilson. We don't
mean to just rip Dan Wilson just because. But like
as we just played in that last segment his press conference,
it doesn't instill a lot of belief.
Speaker 1 (28:49):
That's right. And I like the guys on this team too.
I really do say. I think it's a likable. It's
a likable all right, Hey, Jackson, did you hear that?
Speaker 2 (28:57):
What's that?
Speaker 7 (28:57):
Dick?
Speaker 1 (28:58):
Back on May the eighth. Almost a month ago, during
an NBA Conference NBA semi Finals game, Kevin Collaboro, who
joins us again tonight at five o'clock, stay tuned at
five for Casey, came on the show and not only
predicted a Thunder versus Pacers final, but also said Indiana
had the best chance to beat Oklahoma City, who has
(29:19):
the best chance of taking them out.
Speaker 7 (29:22):
All right, I'm gonna throw something really wacky at you, Okay,
I can see an Indiana Oklahoma City final.
Speaker 1 (29:30):
Who got the MBIA would hate that, but I don't.
Speaker 7 (29:32):
Think Indiana b I want it. I'm here for it,
and being an old Pacer fan and that having a
vested interest in the East, I like the Pacers with
Tyrees Halliburton. Matherin is a tough, tough cat. They meet
force with force at the rem Andrew Nemhart is becoming
(29:52):
a tremendous shooting guard in this league. Who knew coming
out of Gonzaga that he had that, but he plays
so well on both ends of the floor. I really
like that Indiana team. I'm saying it's Indiana and Oklahoma
City playing for the hearts and minds of Middle America.
Speaker 3 (30:10):
I'm on the wagon, man.
Speaker 1 (30:11):
I am getting a.
Speaker 2 (30:13):
Pacer jersey if they if they win it, Dick, you
get into Pacer Jersey.
Speaker 1 (30:17):
Yes, yes, if they win it, I'll get a Pacer jersey. Yeah,
I'll give a Pascer Jersey. I'll give it to my
kid or something like that. I don't want Haliburton Haliburton Jersey.
But oh my goodness, they could just do this city
as big a favor, as as big a favor as
we've seen since Lebron, you know, thirteen years ago, knocking them,
knocking them out. I mean, I guess a close close
(30:39):
would be Ohio State this year on January first, just
kicking the bloody hell out of the Ducks. That was
that was there was a closer favor right there. Hey Jackson,
do you hear that? That's that? Dick. Today on Fox
Sports one Breakfast Ball Show, NBA Commissioner Adam Silver talked
about the criticism of having a matchup of two smaller
markets in the NBA.
Speaker 8 (30:59):
Fun It's one thing I really admire about the NFL.
I mean, if if we were going into a Super
Bowl and it was Packers against Steelers, you guys would
be celebrating that nobody would Those would be storied franchises.
People wouldn't be talking about, you know, the fact that
Pittsburgh is a small market. So we in fact, you know,
I'm happy whatever team ends up in the finals. But
(31:21):
it's been intentional from our standpoint to create a system,
a collective bargaining agreement that allows more teams to compete.
And just by way of background, you know, we're going
to have to go through a process of getting to
the point where people are accustomed to tuning into the
finals because the two teams that deserve to be there
and it's the best basketball. Similar to again with the
(31:43):
super Bowl. If I asked somebody if they were going
to watch the super Bowl, they wouldn't say who's playing.
It's a national holiday and now that's nirvana.
Speaker 5 (31:50):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (31:51):
So if you've made a system that creates parody, which
I believe he has, and it's and it's worked, I mean,
getting different champions every year recently, it's worked on like
the last seven years. But he's that since he's changed,
you know, the second apron and a lot of the
salary cap situation. I mean, if you've done that and
(32:13):
you've done a good job with that, then why aren't
we marketing these other teams the way we market the
Knicks and the Lakers and the Warriors. I'll give you
an example. Celtics had twenty six games on ESPN, ABCTNT,
Lakers had twenty seven, Warriors had twenty four. So Nicks
had twenty four, you know me the Pacers had. The
(32:36):
Pacers had nine. Well, a lot of that's just the networks.
Speaker 2 (32:39):
The networks know that they're gonna get viewers of New
York and LA and those big markets, and they're not
going to get the ratings from smaller It's all.
Speaker 1 (32:46):
I think it opens back to the networks.
Speaker 2 (32:48):
The networks have the power here, and the networks aren't
marketing these teams.
Speaker 1 (32:53):
Well, but if the networks want ratings for their finals,
then the networks.
Speaker 2 (32:57):
So let me change the un games, okay, to the networks. Yeah,
I think I think the networks. I mean, I think
the NBA Finals networks are just kind of like, we
know a larger number of people are gonna watch anyway.
Speaker 1 (33:07):
So you think they're gonna be You think they're okay,
which and you may be right. You think they're okay
just showing Knicks, Lakers, Warriors all year long and then
when you get okay, see Indiana, like, all right, we'll
take the hit because we got good ratings all year
long with the Knicks and the Lakers and the celt
That's exactly right, right, all right. It's a sad truth,
but I think it is. It's a it's it's a
(33:28):
plausible theory. I will put it that way. Hey, Jackson,
do you hear that? What's that?
Speaker 2 (33:31):
Dick?
Speaker 1 (33:32):
Despite making the Eastern Conference Finals, Knicks coach Tom Thibodeau
has been fired. Let's go back to Saturday when New
York when it was eliminated a game six. Jalen Brunson
was asked at the end of the press conference about
his head coach. Do you kind of feel that going
forward he's the same guy? Lift you guys the rest
of the way at next level?
Speaker 5 (33:51):
Is that a real question right now?
Speaker 1 (33:55):
You just asked me if I believe that, if he's
the right guy. Yes, oh boy. I've been in many
of those press conferences before. I don't know what would
prompt somebody to ask that question, particularly of a coach
that just signed an extension like six months ago for
(34:19):
three more years. What a weird Maybe it's just that's
the New York media. But what a weird just a
bizarre we've you know, we've had some bizarre questions in
the media this week, Jackson, like a bizarre question.
Speaker 2 (34:30):
Because that's the other thing too, is this Thibodeaux firing
kind of on the face of it doesn't make much
sense considering what I mean, The New York Knicks had
a legitimate shot to be an NBA Finals team and
they just.
Speaker 1 (34:44):
Fired their coach. Yeah, yeah, what is wrong with you?
And if they hire like a Mike Malone, they're just
hiring the same dude again.
Speaker 2 (34:51):
Yeah, I mean, exactly, how are you planning to get
better if you don't? Does establishing a culture, letting a
guy just build his culture in the organization, does that
mattered to like any of these people.
Speaker 1 (35:02):
I don't know. I don't know. Three point fifty four
ninety three point three KJRFM coming up in the four
o'clock hour. Let's go back to baseball. I'm sure Bill
Krueger will be very, very happy that Dan Wilson took
Emerson Hancock out before the end of the fifth inning tomorrow,
I will Yesterday, I was thinking of Bill Krueger's be
fun when They pulled him because Bill likes those starters
(35:24):
as I do like those starters, going a little bit
and then saving your bullpen ninety three point three KJRFM
