(00:00):
I've been busy, isn't that. No, you listen to this show from
time to time. I do listento show from time time. I missed
yesterday, which is great. Iwas running some errands yesterday, so yeah,
I missed it. Iphole, youmissed the drake played by play guy
who was on our station twice yesterday. I did miss that. Yeah.
Yeah, we doubled down. Butthat's good. I mean, you want

(00:21):
to get the full picture of whatthe kooks are facing on Thursday. I
get it. But we led theshow with the injury to Chris Kidd.
I mean he almost injury. Healmost went on the eyel, didn't you.
No, he got hit with thefootball. You had a Jamal Adams
type injury? Oh oh, youknow what kind of injury. You're rushing
the passer and just kind of threwyour head in the way. Not at

(00:42):
all. I ran a deep postand the quarterback I told him, if
there's if you can sling it inthere, I'll be able to get it.
And he threw it and the safetyjumped it. So I was anticipating
the ball getting batted and I wasready to just react to it. The
ball met it's intended target and itwasn't my hands, it was my left
eyebrow. So yeah, the balljust whizzed right into my face, knocked

(01:07):
my glasses off, and yeah, what was our was our friend Michael Shawn
witness to this. Yes, heexplained what he saw yesterday. They couldn't
mock him though, because he hadthe game winning touchdown. The next player,
I said, run it again, and if it's there, do it
again. I'm gonna catch it.And this time the safety dropped back deeper.
So I just sat in this littlepocket in their own defense, and

(01:30):
he threw me open towards the middleof the field and I caught it and
walked into the end zone walking. So you walked off the injury, You
played through pain, and you camethrough. You came through with the winning
score. That's warrior, That's that'sthe sign of a true champion. Come
on, champion. It's the heartof a champ pumping through my blood.
And there's some former sea hockey beaton a route too, Is that right?

(01:53):
Do I have that right? Yes? Yeah, And we don't know
who the former Seahawk is. Wedon't need to do that as if the
former Seahawk is going to be listening. He's not. But at the same
time, I don't think it's necessarythat we you know, it's okay,
I beaut a former Seahawks woo wootouchdown. You guys, you and Michael
Sean still think you could hold yourown in the game of basketball with NFL

(02:14):
players, right, Yes, wecould score a basket. Mike thinks they
can. We could win. Missionis Tim's he's a little bit taller than
me. He's probably five to ten, five to ten, and kid,
you're what five six? Yes?Okay? And you think you could do
some damage. I think I canscore, yes, okay. Damage is

(02:36):
delusional on this. Yeah, damageesscoring are two different things. I think
if we played to eleven, we'llscore two or three points. I think
that's reasonable. I don't think that'sreasonable. I think I think one bucket
would be a miracle. And I'vei've we've talked about this with with Michael
Sean. It's it's it's not happening. There's not there's not enough talent in

(02:57):
the media cores in Seattle. I'mbut to actually get a bucket against maybe
the best basketball media guy, AlyssaCharlton over at Q thirteen, A Foxer
team because she actually played college basketball. If Alyssa played, we'd have a
chance of scoring. But she's tall. She's tall. Yes, if it
was me and Michael Sean and awhole bunch of other other marginally terrible players

(03:21):
that are that would be on thecourt, it would be awful. I
would have said you maybe have achance before they signed George Fan and brought
him back. Oh that's a good. Yeah, like a double fan double
double guy at Western Kentucky. Ijust yeah, we'd score once. Yeah.
Okay, did you go over thisManda Man podcast. Did it come
up you're injury at all? Whenyou were talking recording tomorrow. So recording

(03:44):
tomorrow, we won't be discussing that. No, I don't think that'll be
something brought up. Yeah. I'llbe wearing sunglasses too, so no one's
going to see this huge scab onmy eyebrow. All right, Well,
let's ship more with Tim Booth andChris Kidd with playing hurt in there in
the the studio controlling the dials. We're gonna get into what Michael Sewan Degar
wrote about at the Athletic later onin the show, saying like and we

(04:06):
talked to him about it yesterday too. I guess we'll get into it a
little bit right now, But MichaelSean is not really impressed with the free
agents that the Seahawks have brought in, the moves that they've made, the
acquisitions, Sam Howe, all ofthe above. He's feels like they're,
eh, you know, halfway decentacquisitions, but nothing that's going to push
him over the top. Like youdon't just go, Wow, they got

(04:29):
Jerome Baker and they got this Dodsonguy from Buffalo and all these guys.
He's just kind of like, Eah, not that great, but it's not
gonna It's still the same thing. He feels like. I think, I
don't want to put words in hismouth, so I'll just say it.
Pete Carroll must be somewhere going, well, what have they done so far
to look like they're better than anine to eighteen? Yeah, he's right.

(04:49):
It feels kind of It feels kindof Mariners thissh. It feels a
little bit like what the Marions didthis offseason. It wasn't like they went
out and got the big bat orthe big arm. You know, Blake's
was out there forever. They didn'tsign him. They didn't go get Cody
Bellinger or any of the other bigoffensive free agents that could really help them.
It was all these sort of Iwouldn't say marginal pieces, but just

(05:11):
kind of like lower, lesser movesthat on the on the grand scale,
were lesser than making a big splash. But the collective, you know,
we look at the Mariners lineup rightnow and go, well, this lineup
actually might be okay, like itmight one to nine might be a pretty
good offensive lineup. Maybe the Seahawkswe end up looking at it similarly,
like these guys weren't the big splashguys. Whether it's Baker Dotson at linebacker

(05:36):
or adding George Fant on the offensiveline, or you know, the other
little things that they've done, theymight not be headline grabbing moves that make
you go, oh, this teamis going to be drastically better. But
within the scheme of what they're wantingto do and the new style that they're
going to use under Mike McDonald andoffensively under Ryan Grubb, maybe they end

(05:59):
up being the moves that they thatend up creating a better overall team,
a better overall product on the field. Yeah, I suppose I'm just looking
at these names though. I meanit's Terrell Dodson, Jerome Baker, Rayshawn
Jenkins added to the safety crew, and you know they needed help there without
Adams and Diggs coming back. GeorgeFant, Yeah, I like the idea

(06:20):
and fans excited. He tweeted outhome exclamation point. He's happy to be
back here in Seattle. But youlook at George Fant and the contract they
gave him two years, fourteen millions, So that suggests that he's going to
be a guy that's going to beplaying a lot, and also tells me
that they're not They're concerned about AbeLucas and whether he's going to be able
to hold up. Yeah, onehundred percent. That's exactly what was the

(06:43):
first edge of the phones. Okayfor him? Yeah, sorry about that?
Uh yeah, you want to takeyour hat off? Maybe? Or
would do we have manners in herethat I need them indoors and I need
to take my hat off, Nobooth, you do whatever you want,
man, Thank you appreciate it.Just happy here. But that was the
first thing when I saw the Georgefan sign, I was that signals to
me that they're worried about the longterm health and where Abe Lucas best fits.

(07:09):
It makes me wonder if he's goingto become a guard frankly, if
they're going to move him inside andplay fans out on the out on the
edge at right tackle. But yeah, I mean, they're they're not moves
that generate a whole lot of excitement. They're not. They just haven't been
so far, especially when you thengo and trade for a guy like Sam
Howell. But they are also movesthat you know, you can see the

(07:32):
areas that they specifically are trying tofill. And it in a way,
it feels like the reset that theydid in twenty ten and twenty eleven,
where they felt like, okay,at that time when Pete and John got
here, the roster needed a completereset. They had they had to overhaul
things, they had to make majormoves. This time around, it feels
more subtle, but it is clearlya reset. It is clearly a change

(07:55):
from what had been done in thepast, and maybe these are the InCor
mental steps that lead to bigger movesover the next couple of years, whether
it be through free agency or throughthe draft. Seahawks did make a new
move yesterday they signed a guard. That's the position where they really need help
because they only have Anthony Bradford tothis point and Bradford coming back a second

(08:16):
year player. But they signed yesterdayTremaine Ankram Junior. He's twenty five years
old. He played for the Ramslast year. He's a fifth round choice
in twenty twenty thirty one games withthe Rams. I want to guess how
many starts, he said. Ibelieve it's zero or one. One?
Yeah, one start. No contractfigures have been released as yet thirty seven

(08:39):
starts at Clemson, so the Seahawksare at least addressing their needs in the
interior of the offensive line. TremaineAnkrim Junior has been added to the Seahawks
from the Los Angeles Rams a freeagent. Other headlines brought to you by
Venue Kings. Luis Castillo no surpriseto anybody, named the opening day pitcher,
the starter for the second year ina row for the Mariners. The

(09:01):
home opener, the season opener, the everything opener nine days away against the
Red Sox. Brian Baio will bethe opposing pitcher for the Red Sox.
They're at T Mobile next Thursday.Jared Kelnick is three for forty two with
the Braves. I just wanted tobring that up, but it's not really
a headline. Three for forty twoin games that don't count in nice weather,

(09:26):
that's not great. Are we supposedto say that he's working on things,
or are we supposed to say, hey, maybe the Mariner has made
a good trade after all getting ridof him. I think I think at
this point, you're saying, ifyou're a Mariner's fan, you're like,
oh, yeah, I'm fine withthat. I'm good with him struggling right
now, because just the thing youwant to see is him raking and just

(09:46):
and just hitting the crap out ofthe ball down in Florida. I'm still
pulling for the guy. I justlook at, you know, from one
person to another. I'm just thinkingabout what's going on inside of his head.
And it's just got to be he'sgrinding again, you know, one
at I had, you know, instead of Arizona, he's grinding down there
in Florida, instead of Seattle. He's just in there, just grinding away.
Three for forty two. Jared Kelnick. We'll see how that finishes up.

(10:09):
Hopefully kel Nick can get it gone. But boy, it's been off
to a rough start for him.Speaking of rough starts, actually rough finishes
for the Kraken. Were you therelast night? I was not there last
night. Oh okay, I tookthat night off. Well, good for
you. My kid, Mikey,he went to the game. He said
it was garbage, and he doesn'tknow anything about hockey, so even he
recognized that it was terrible. Theylost to the Sabers six to two.

(10:31):
Joey Decord, I don't get it. I mean, Joey Decord. How
could he be so good for solong and then just all of a sudden
so bad. I don't get it. Grubauer came in oh four and one
on the homestand their playoff hopes arezero. Basically, Yes, it's been
a disastrous homestand it's been and Ithink it all goes back to the loss
to Vegas last Tuesday night. You'resixteen seconds away from getting a win,

(10:54):
absolutely needed win, making up groundon the team you're chasing in the playoff
hunt, and you give up thetime goal and with sixteen seconds left lose
in overtime. It felt like theentire season just collapsed right there. And
they've looked that way in the threegame since it's been a really bad a
really bad run at a really badtime for them. Yeah, it's just

(11:16):
crazy. I mean they they've hadan up and down season, mostly down,
and so they appear to be outof it at this point. The
Giant signed Blake Snell two years, sixty two million and opt out after the
first season and the first four gettingunder way in Dayton, Ohio today,
Wagner against Howard True TV at threeforty tip Colorado State and Tony Bennett's Virginia

(11:37):
squad at six ten. We've gotGary Hill. We'll have more on the
Mariners at eleven. You hear GaryHill. He's a fellow koog and he
does a great job there on theMariners radio network. We'll talk to him
at eleven and find out the latestwith Dominic Canzone and how hot he's been.
Voicemails, We need your voicemails ateleven thirty. Come on, man,
I'm holding down the ford here.I need the listeners to chime in.

(12:00):
We only had two voicemails yesterday.Joel. I want to hear from
Michael Sean. I want to hearfrom Softy. I want to hear John
Stanton GQ, Jerry, everybody. How about Adam Dirdy. We haven't heard
from them all right, Yes,we heard him the last time I was
here. Ross Fletcher. We needRoss Fletcher checking in Alison Lucan or whatever
the hell her name is. Imean, we just need we just need

(12:20):
people to call in so voicemails ateleven thirty. We'll have the story of
the day at eleven forty five.I'm looking forward to this. Ian McMillan
at twelve o five You're probably going, well, who the heck is Ian
McMillan. He's a sports betting guythat I follow on Twitter. He's the
host of the Bacon Bets podcast. He does a really good job. Canadian

(12:41):
kid, he's there in New Yorknow. He's on all kinds of different
things. He's on bet Sided. He's a senior editor at fan Sided.
Looking forward to catching up with him. He's got some interesting thoughts on the
NCAA tournament and jim Meehan. Attwelve thirty Spokesman Review, he covers the
gone Zaga Bulldogs. We'll find outwhat in the world Why Tim Booth I

(13:01):
read a little bit about it.Why Gonzaga is a five seed today,
and it has something to do withb YU because BYU can't play on Sundays.
Yep, that's a wild one, isn't it. That's always been the
case. I mean I understand that. But the seeding was because they were
worried about BYU maybe having a Sundaygame in the next round. Yes,

(13:22):
because BYU the way it has tobe set up is they have to play
Thursday in the NCAAs, they haveto play Thursday Saturday, and then they
have to be in a regional thatplays Thursday Saturday. So the seeding committee
had to take that all into consideration, and that's why Gonzaga got bumped up
to a five seed, which thenalso makes me wonder if they had not

(13:43):
lost the WCC Title Game tournament titlegame to Saint Mary's, would Gonzaga have
actually been put in Spokane and endedup playing essentially home games instead of gains
sent to Salt Lake City. Yeah, I just I don't get that.
I just I don't stand some ofthe and it's everybody complains about the seeding

(14:03):
and what's happening and where they're playing, and as Kougs were upset because Drake
is two hours away from Omahon. It's going to be like a home game
for them. Especially if they'd beenthe seventh seed instead of the ten seed,
then maybe I could have worked withthat a little bit. But being
the lower seeded team, should youhave an advantage like that? The answer
is no, you shouldn't. Youshouldn't have an advantage like that. I

(14:24):
don't think. I don't think Gonzagashould have gotten a berth in Spokane,
even if they had a hell ofa season, even if they were a
one seed, well if they were, if they were a top four seed,
they were going to get put inSpokane. There was no question that
was going to happen. Is thatfair? It's the it's the way the
rules are. And frankly, theNCAA would love that to have that kind
of a preset sort of environment thatis going to take place in a venue

(14:50):
like that, because you know it'sgoing to be sold out. You know
the place is going to be crazy. You know be sold out, It
is going to be a lot anyway, but you're you have the different kind
of feel or a different kind ofatmosphere if you have a local team.
Plane. It's why there was somuch hope before you know, the swoon
at the end of the season ofthe Kougs ended up in Spokane. I
mean, no one would you havebattered and I about the Kougs being placed

(15:13):
in Spokane the same way you wouldhave if Gonzaga had been placed there.
Well what do you think? No, of course you wouldn't have. You'd
be going to the games subjective whenit comes to the Kuz. I understand
that. But so you can't.You can't have an opinion one way about
Gonzaga gain place there if that hadhappened and have you know, and not
feel the same about if the Kugshad been played there or had been placed

(15:33):
there. So yeah, okay, yeah, telling you all right, Well,
no, I know I appreciate that. But you know, when it
comes to the Kugs, I meaneverything's on the table. I mean,
nothing's off the table at all whenit comes to the Kug. So but
it's it's just funny though, becauseeverybody complains about it, and then later
on, once the tournament starts,it's all forgotten and nobody's complaining about it

(15:54):
anymore. It's a cracking ticket.Tuesday here on Sports Radio ninety three point
three KJRFM got a chance to wintickets. All you have to do is
listen for the sounder to play everyhour, then called two oh six,
two eight, six, nine, five, nine five will take the tenth
caller every hour to win a pairof tickets to see the Crack and play
on March twenty six against the AnaheimDucks. I still miss the Mighty and

(16:17):
the Anaheim Ducks. And I don'tknow why they took the Mighty out.
Was that they tried to get awaya little bit from the Disney aspect of
it. Okay, was that botheringsomeone? Is that politically incorrect? No?
I don't think calling them the MightyDucks. I don't think it's politically
incorrect. I think they just theyIf I remember right, the Ducks originally
were owned had a Disney arm tothe ownership group that brought the team there

(16:41):
in the first place, and thenthat changed over time and the new owners
just wanted to get a little bitaway from the whole Disney aspect of it.
But all that being said, thebest jersey that the Ducks have now
is their old jersey that is fromthe Mighty Ducks. Well, there's still
capitalizing on they brought it back eitherthis this season or the previous season.
It's an amazing jersey. Should justwear it all the time. It's awesome.

(17:03):
Yeah, Okay, I'll take yourword for that. Okay, be
calling number ten when you hear thesounder two O six two eight six ninety
five ninety five if you want tocatch that game, the Craken game against
the Anaheim Ducks on March twenty six. All right, the Giants sign Blake
Snell? Should the Mariners have goneafter him? I want to get Tim

(17:23):
Booth's thoughts on that, and alsoKyle Smith. Do we think he's gonna
stay in Pullman? Are we crazyif we Cougar fans to think, Oh
yeah, he thinks it's an oldchew over there, and he loves it
so much that even if somebody wantsto triple his contract, he's gonna stay
in Pullman. All that's coming upnext is shipping more with Tim Booth in
for Puck Sports Radio ninety three pointthree kJ R FM. The wool Road

(17:48):
was a gun five and living onthe houseto. His normal was a chunky
is that he open to win andhe was just five to one. If
you want to text us as JimMoore with Tim Booth from the Associated Press
Today Sports Radio ninety three point threekJ R F m h these you gotta

(18:12):
have thick skin to do this job. This show sucks without Puck, sorry,
Jim. And this one. Getssomeone in here who can hold this
from the two five three, Getsomebody in here who can host a radio
show. This is bordering on pathetic. A long time I'm a long time
all day listener, but it's uh, I'm leaving. Please send me a

(18:32):
contact email or number for your programdirector. Okay, it's it's Rich Moore
at iHeartMedia dot Com. What's funnyif they listen to the station all day,
they would know who the program directoris exactly, Well, they might
not know that Purple Sheet is.Actually no Rich though, No, we've
said this on I think every showhas said who Purple Sheet is. To

(18:53):
not know this and be an alltime listener all day, it's kind of
strange. Yeah, they're not listeninghard enough enough. Or at iHeartMedia dot
com. Do you think have mereplaced? Yeah, Dick Fane, that's

(19:15):
usually I thought you're gonna say that. Actually, as soon as you said
no, send them to Dick Fanetoo, send him to Dick Fane.
Yeah, we're just holding down theford here is what we're doing there.
Two five three, So so bearwith us, man, It's okay.
And you know what I mean. You got to be able to take the
criticism we sit here on sports radioor when I used to be a sports
columnist. It's if you're gonna giveopinions and say stuff and you know,

(19:37):
maybe butcher things on the air,you got to be good natured about it
and be able to take the criticism. It's okay. I you know,
this isn't This isn't my forte tolead the damn show. I'll be honest
about it. I'm fine with that. I'm more suited as a beta mail
to be a sidekick. But youknow, I'm just in here just you
know what the hell? You comparedit? You said, you said,
well, you're driving it better thanI would be, Jim, and I

(20:00):
said, well, thank you, that's pretty nice. But I compared it
too to like when you're driving downthe freeway. You're keeping it in your
lane for the most part, butthen how often does it happen to you?
Like I'm going back and forth Bento Seattle quite a bit. In
fact, I'm going to Bend thisafternoon. I'll probably count two or three
times where I'm you know, justlike maybe not paying as close of attention

(20:21):
as I should be. And Iget that, and I'm like, oh
god, I'm getting out of mylane here. That's kind of the way
the rumble strip. Yes, yeah, that's kind of the way I'm driving
this show. Yeah, no,that's that is a good analogy for the
most part. But you know,I'm kind of swerving and then a little
to the left, a little tothe right. And I mean, I
will say sometimes when I've listened toyour show, it sometimes seems like the

(20:42):
guardrails aren't there and you guys arecareening off a cliff a little bit.
So the fact that you're actually keepingit on the road right now is probably
a good thing for the most part. But yeah, every now and every
now and then you hit you hitthe rumble strip. And I tell people,
I probably would be more offended ifpeople didn't like my sports writing because
I actually went to school to learnhow to do this, you know,

(21:03):
and this kind of rich coming fromme since I've been doing this fourteen years,
I should be better at this thanI Am, But you know,
what the hell, you know,it's just talking sports on the radio.
You know, there's different little thingsyou got to do, like these cracking
ticket giveaways and all this stuff thatthey throw in front of you. But
it's no big deal at all.I found out though during the break about
Tim Booth's thoughts on Dave Hackstall, and it occurred to me too, and

(21:26):
I'm sure it's occurred to a lotof cracking fans. He's got to have
the hottest seat in the NHL,doesn't he one of them? One of
the Yeah, one of the Ithink there's some other places where the expectations
might have been a little bit higherthan what they were for Seattle, but
yeah, it's definitely not a comfortablespot right now for them, Yeah is

(21:48):
it? What would he say inhis own defense? Do you think?
I think they've had a lot ofinjuries this year, and more so the
NHL team, So I don't knowif it's more, but they've been really
untimely like they've This was pointed outby Ron Francis a couple of weeks ago
around the trade deadline, was theydidn't they never really played with their full

(22:08):
lineup for the first I don't know, three months of the season because of
various injuries, because you lost Brandontannev and the opener, and you lost
Andre Berkowski early and Philip Grubauer wasout with an injury for six weeks.
So it wasn't until you know, kind of January February before you actually had
your your primary lineup. And thenright now, when you're in these these

(22:33):
games where you're trying to make upground and these must win opportunities that they've
had for the last two weeks, well, then all of a sudden,
you lose Vince Done because of achicken bleep hit from a guy from Calgary
a couple of weeks a few weeksback up there, and which should have
drawn longer than a three game suspension. And then all of a sudden,
you lose Jayden Schwartz from your forwardline at the same time that you've traded

(22:53):
alex Wenberg. It just it's it'sone thing after another that has not allowed
them to have what they thought wasgoing to be their full lineup for most
of the season. That would behis argument for for why they're in the
position that they are right now.I think the counter would be there's a
lot of guys and Ian I thoughtput it perfectly yesterday when I when I

(23:15):
caught a little bit of his show. There's a lot of passengers right now
in this lineup who are just kindof, you know, along for the
ride, and there aren't guys whoare carrying the load the way they should
be, especially considering the importance ofthe games that they've had over the last
couple of weeks and clearly have failedin trying to you know, make a
run to be a playoff team. And some of that goes back on the

(23:38):
on the head coach for not beingable to get those guys to be more
than just along for the ride, especially considering the importance of the games.
So he's definitely to me, he'sdefinitely on a very hot seat at the
moment. And you know, ifif things don't turn around here and they
have a more competitive finish to youknow, the regular you know, immediately

(24:03):
turn around, but then have amore competitive push here toward the end of
the regular season, I definitely thinkthere's the possibility of a move in the
future. Well, as a casualfan, it's just the weirdest season to
me, and to have what aneight game winning streak or a nine game
winning streak and a nine game losingstreak or eight whatever it is. It
was a lot both of them.That suggests I mean, I don't even

(24:26):
know what it suggests. I mean, you're wildly inconsistent, is what it
suggests. But it shows that you'recapable at least. And it was just
weird last night to see Joey Decordand how he took that job away from
Gribauer and then all of a suddenwent from being if you compared it to
baseball, he was like an acefor a while there as a goaltender,
and then last night he it waslike he gave up eight runs in the

(24:48):
first inning. Yeah, no,he's And in some regards, that's the
nature of goaltenders in the in theNHL, is when they're really hot,
they are really so the nature wouldbe it streaky, a streaky, It
can be a very The good ones, the ones who are considered the elite
in the league, your Connor Hellibucks, the you know, those kind of
of goaltenders. Those are the guyswho are They're the ones who are getting

(25:11):
the awards at the end of theyear because they've been so consistent. They've
avoided the really downstreaks, and there'sgonna be times where you're going to have
a bad game here and there, but the elite, the elite goalies,
they avoid those those really bad swoonswhere they all of a sudden can't stop
anything. And I think we've seenwith Joey Decord or you know, there

(25:33):
is that stretch in December and Januarywhere he carried them where he was fantastic
in goal and he was the reasonthat they got back into being in the
playoff conversation to begin with with howhe played. Now, the issue for
a young goalie like that who's neverplayed this much at the NHL level,
is that consistency, Is that keepingthat up over the course of you know,

(25:55):
thirty or forty games that a goalieis going to play or more in
a season. So if it's justit's the nature of him being young,
I think and just going through hisfirst full season at this level, if
he is going to become one ofthose elite goalies that we're talking about in
a couple of years, this willbe kind of the growing pain year for

(26:18):
him. This will be the onewhere he learns, Okay, I was
great for this stretch and then Isucked for this stretch. How do I
keep that from happening or make itshorter in the future so that there's more
more elite level play that he's thathe's putting out there. Yeah, I
was thinking last night when I heardthat he was pulled as quickly as he
was, that this might lend credenceto the thought that I've always had is

(26:40):
that you should try a game withouthaving the goalie at the beginning instead of
at the end, and try andget that man advantage and get the lead.
But I don't think we're ever goingto see that. But with Hackstall,
you talked about the crack and havinga day off today, this might
be a day where they dust him. It's possible, impossible. And if
they were to do that, whoare some of the candidates that might replace
him? And it would just bean basis I would imagine, oh,
yeah, one or yeah, you'reyou're not hiring someone full term or full

(27:03):
time with you know, a monthleft in the regular season, and that
might be that might be a reasonwhy you don't make a move right now,
is because you do only have amonth left, and it is pretty
clear at this point that they're notgoing to make the playoffs no matter what
kind of run they put together herelate, you know, late in the
season playing they're playing teams coming upthat they should be beating, and even

(27:26):
if they you know, run thetable and win you know, say thirteen
to their last sixteen games or whateverit might be, that's still not going
to be enough to get into theget into the Stanley Cup playoffs. So
being that there's only a month left, maybe you just let things play out
and see if the team can respondover the final month. But if they
were to make a move, youhave a guy like Jay Leach on the

(27:47):
Bench's who's interviewed for jobs before inprevious off seasons and has been considered a
potential head coaching candidate down the line. And then the one that's kind of
always been hanging there is Dan Bilzmadown in Coachella Valley, the head coach
there with the HL franchise. Helets he led Pittsburgh to a Stanley Cup.
He knows, you know, kindof what it takes to have a

(28:10):
have a championship level team, sohe's kind of always been sort of hanging
there as a potential replacement. Ifthere was ever a move made with with
Axtall Hm, which one would yougo with? Would you go with Beilzma
or I think I think in theshort term you probably would go with,
you know, Leech or someone likethat. The other thing too about hockey
is it's not out of the questionthat you just bring a guy in off

(28:33):
the street. I mean, we'veseen that plenty with all of a sudden,
a team will make a move witha coach and then they're bringing in,
you know, Joe Smith off ofthe street who hasn't been coaching for
two years to come in and takeover a team. It's so it's not
it doesn't have to be someone fromwithin the organization necessarily that you make a

(28:53):
mid season or in this case, would be a late season move. But
I would think in the in theshort term, it would be someone like
like Leech or Dave Lowry is anotherguy on their bench who's got experience as
a head coach. So I thinkif you're making a move at this point,
it would be a short term kindof thing with one of them,
and then reevaluate your your options asyou go into the offseason. And boy,

(29:15):
we were talking about during the breakthe Craken. I mean, they
really need to get a foothold here. You were talking about season tickets being
renewed, and then also the NBAis going to be back in a couple
of years or so we think, and and boy, once the NBA gets
here, it's going to be eventougher to fill climate pledge for the NHL.
Yeah, no, it's it's it'sI wouldn't say it's a tenuous time,
but not being able to build onthe playoff run from last year where

(29:41):
you were finally able to bring inthe casual fan, the guy who wasn't
necessarily a hockey fan but would getwrapped up in the team and their town
being part of something, you know, like the Stanley Cup playoffs. The
fact that they haven't been able toreally capitalize on that this sho year,
that they struggled right out of thegate, and that they were trying to

(30:03):
play catch up from you know, from the start. Essentially, that's not
that's not a great situation to bein when you know what's on the horizon,
and you know that when that doeshappen, and it could who knows,
it could be announced by the endof this calendar year. I'm guessing
it probably will be announced by theend of this calendar year. When you
know that that's hanging out there andyou still haven't quite grasped the the your

(30:30):
the core fan base the way thatyou were hoping to. And then on
top of that, they've also hadthe issue this year with with Root Sports
and the the moves that that Comcastmade to, you know, raise it
to the higher tier. We've talkedabout it with the Mariners as well.
That just lessens your ability to getexposure out there to that casual fan on

(30:51):
a on a more regular basis.Uh So, I'm curious what I'm so
all that together I think has hasmade this year really difficult for the for
the frame, You're not winning asmuch as you wanted to, you're not
going to be in the playoffs, you're not getting seen as much as you
were last season. How do youchange that going into next season? Knowing

(31:11):
that probably sometime during next season there'sgoing to be an announcement that an NBA
team is coming back here in twentysix or twenty seven. Are you noticing
more and more empty seats? Yes, yes, And I'm also noticing,
you know, I look every nowand then at the at the resale prices
to see kind of where they're at. Last night, I think you could
have gotten in the door for aboutforty five bucks, which is as low

(31:33):
as I've ever seen it in thethree seasons of the team and I and
it also looked like the games laterin this season on the resale market have
dropped significantly over the last couple ofweeks, so you could definitely tell there's
not a there's not as much ofan appetite right now. Rightfully, so
they're not playing well, they're notand they're not in playoff consideration, so

(31:56):
I understand why the fan is like, I'm not going to go spend my
money to go watch them now.If you've never gone to a game,
great time to try and go toa game. Really, it's an awesome
time. It's a really cool atmosphere, the venue is amazing. There's there's
not a bad seat in climate pledgethat watching a game in there is terrific.
So if you've never gone to agame and you want to experience what

(32:19):
an NHL game there is like, now would be a great time because you
might not ever see prices this affordableagain. If they get it right moving
forward and they put out a bettercompetitive team next season. Crack and losing
to the Buffalo Sabers last night sixto two. Joey decord. He was
pulled early. Grubauer came in.Didn't really make a difference oh four and
one. On the home stand. They'll face the Golden Knights in Las Vegas

(32:42):
Thursday night. Also playing Thursday nightthe game of the night, the Kugs
against Drake. Will the Kugs beable to keep their coach Kyle Smith?
We'll get into that next. It'sshim More with Tim Booth from the Associated
Press in for Puck Sports Radio ninetythree point three KJRFM covering the regional there
in Spokane, can back for whatthe Mariner opener. Then you go down
to Portland. Well, what allam I missing though? Because you're gonna

(33:04):
be covering a slew of games.Yeah, So we've got the men's first
round, first and second rounds inSpokane, so I'll get to see the
likes of San Diego State and SaintMary's. Is there Auburn Alabama? The
St. Mary's getting here boozed orwhat they are going to get killed?
Like the Gonzaga players came out theother day and we're like, yeah,
you guys should go wear Grand Canyoncolors and like boo them. So we'll

(33:28):
get those games there. The entirestate of Alabama is coming to Spokane because
you have Auburn, Alabama and UABplaying there, which I do not understand
why the committee did that other thanto help the media in Alabama not have
to send a whole bunch of differentpeople different spots around the country. And
then on top of that you alsohave we also have the women's first and

(33:49):
second round. Gonzaga got a topfour seed, so they will be hosting
as well. So there if youwant to just go see basketball this weekend,
Spokane is the place to go becauseyou'll have I think it's it's twelve
eight nine games, eight games, nine games, something like that between the
two tournaments being played in Spokane betweenFriday and Monday. Just good lucky in

(34:12):
a hotel room because there's also somebig youth volleyball tournament going on there and
hotels were like four hundred bucks lastnight. Looked in Spokane. Yeah nice,
but hey, the media hotel isthe Davenport. We're one of the
Davenports, so We're good there.I'm happy about that. Any one of
the Davenports. Well, the Grandis the best. I'm a fan of
the Grand and that's right across fromthe Let's right across from the park.

(34:36):
It's the new one. Yeah. And then but I'm staying at the Towers
this time. But I'm happy withthat, I would say, so the
Davenport's great, It's awesome. Youknow. It's funny though. You have
all these games and you're coming home, and you got the marriage home opener,
and then you've got your going downto Portland for the regional, the
women's regional down there, and it'sit's funny because we talk about it like
you would never complain to anyone outsidethe business because they'd be going, well,
wait a minute, what are youcomplaining exactly? You're covering basketball games

(34:59):
and going to baseball games for aliving. Yes, yeah, but then
yeah, but then it's a lot. It's a lot in a short period
of time. And then throw inthe fact that Jim and I happened to
be in Vegas last week at thesame time, so it's been we saw
each other for all of thirty seconds. Well I saw I was you know
what that was long enough, becauseyou texted me and said you wanted to

(35:19):
buy me a beer. I did, yeah, And what happened? You
didn't buy me one. I didn'tbuy you one because one when I texted
you during the did buy me onebecause you couldn't afford it. Well,
that's true too, But I textedyou during the Wazoo Stanford game because I
was trying to find where you were, and then I realized you were sitting
behind the Wazoo bench and I wasn'tabout to walk around the building to come

(35:43):
over and buy you buy you abeer then. And then on Friday,
during the semi finals, we raninto each other and I thought Jim was
going to follow us down to wherewe were sitting, and then all of
a sudden, I turned around andyou were gone. You just ghosted us.
I still didn't understand what. Yeah, well that was that was the
night that I had a little toomuch to drink, and I'll just blame

(36:05):
it on alcohol. And then wewere down. We went down a little
farther with some Arizona fans is whathappened there. I followed my kid and
he had his buddies there. Duringthe Arizona Oregon game. Yeah, you
guys were like, what fifteen rowsfrom the court and I was about five.
Well, okay, first of all, we were our actual tickets were
the very last row of the arenathat we used to get in during the

(36:28):
Arizona game. And then yeah, once the entire state of Arizona decided to
clear out a team mobile after losingto Oregon, which was amazing. It
was like watching people leave the Titanic. The entire Laura Bowl opened up,
and so we were able to movedown and find much better seats for the
for the Wazoo Colorado game. Butwhat's gotten into Vegas anyway as far as

(36:51):
like every every time you turn around, it's way expensive for whatever you're paying
for. I mean, I understandit at an arena, like what the
beers were seventeen dollars there? Yeah, we get that arena stadiums. I
was up in the Hide Lounge though, that lounge that was way up there,
way up there. So the waitresscame by and she said, hey,
can we you know, take yourorder and I was like yeah,

(37:13):
sure, and so I ordered abeer. I got a stella. It
was like a I don't know,a sixteen twenty ounce stella and I expected
that to be seventeen eighteen bucks orwhatever. And then she goes, well,
would you like some waters? AndI was like, yeah. Don't
you still think when someone says wouldyou like some waters, that you get
a free ice water? No?Or should I have known better? Being
in that ritzy lounge. Sure, inside of an arena, if you ask

(37:35):
for water, it's going to bea bottle of water, and it's going
to be six dollars at least.Okay, I'm want to quiz you on
something. So I got the stellathat was sixteen or twenty ounces and three
smart waters. Okay, so onebeer, three smart waters? What do
you think that cost in the hidelounge? Uh? Probably did you tip?
Oh? Yeah, I left aten dollar tip? Okay, I

(37:57):
mean I guess you paid fifty fivebucks? God, how'd you get total
with the tips? No, itwas fifty six and then ten for the
tips, so sixty six okay.So I figured it out like, if
that stella was seventeen bucks, Ipaid thirteen dollars for a bottle of damn
water. Well that's the lounge becauseit's thirteen dollars time three. And I

(38:17):
was expecting free ice water thirty ninedollars for water. Tim, Come on,
you might have paid a little bitmore for the stella considering where you
were in the arena, but sothe water might have been like Thursday.
That was Thursday. On Friday, though, that was that was rough.
I heard you had a hard timeat the table, so I was,
yeah, they it wasn't what what'dyou drop? Your wife's not listening.

(38:42):
No, she's not listening because she'sworking. I actually came home a little
bit up. But did you Yes? But I made it sound like you
were destined had a really bad Thursday, really bad, really bad Thursday.
Plane pie Gow pi Gow. I'venever played pie Gow because I don't know
how to play it. It's awesome. Piely got is the best game,
is it? Yes? But betterodds than the others. No, just

(39:05):
you don't lose as much, quiteas fast. But when you sit at
one table for two and a halfhours and you don't win anything, you
lose, you do lose. Soyeah, if Thursday was Wednesday was good,
Thursday was bad, Friday was okay. That's the way my week went.
So I came home slightly up,slightly up. Yeah, okay,
talking like forty bucks up, butI was up. Well, don't you
feel like you're a huge winner though? If you come home? Oh?

(39:27):
At one, I was very happywith that. How can Doda do lots
of twelves? Oh? Really?Always good to see Bob. Good to
run into you down there real quickhere, Kyle Smith, does he stay
in Pullman next year? Yes?Do you think he's gonna just buck the
trend of everybody just going for themoney? Like everybody's always like, Hey,

(39:47):
Jim, if somebody offered you abunch of money to triple your salary,
you'd leave? And I say no, I would have never left the
PI if the PI was still around, and I would I wouldn't leave KGr
because they've been too good to me. Yes, I wouldn't do it.
My my senses that he will stay, My senses that they will come to
a contract that is strong enough thathe will stay. Plus, I think
he sees an easier path to getinto the NCAA's on a regular basis,

(40:13):
or at least for the next twoyears through the WCC, I really do.
I think he realizes that they wouldprobably be the third best team in
the WCC, and that might begood enough to get them into the NCAAs
Gary Hill. You hear him onthe Mariners broadcast. He's a fellow koog.
We're looking forward to talking to himnext about the Mariners nine days away
from the season opener at t MobileShip More with Tim booth In for Puck
