Speaker 1 (00:00):
You're listening to the home of the Husky and Seattle's
best NFL Draft coverage in the twenty twenty five NFL Draft.
Now back to Suthian Dick, proudly brought to you by
Emerald Queen Casino on Sports Radio ninety three point three
kJ R FM.

Speaker 2 (00:19):
All right, boys, it grows.

Speaker 3 (00:20):
We're back inside Husky Stadium. Touchdown Tarras sweets by the way.
We can't afford to sit here, but our next guests
can afford to sit here, oh for sure, because.

Speaker 2 (00:28):
He makes the big bucks.

Speaker 4 (00:29):
Baby, he should.

Speaker 2 (00:30):
Head coach your Seattle sounders. Brian Schmitzer, Brian, how are you?

Speaker 5 (00:35):
Oh see, Nick, I'm doing well. I mean, what did
Jackson have for lunch? I mean he's calling John Schnyder lazy.
He's all fired up on the air, you guys, I
don't know. I mean he was fired up.

Speaker 2 (00:46):
I think cross him.

Speaker 3 (00:48):
I think I think he had money on the over
four and a half goals scored in the Nashville game
and get pissed him off. He lost a buttload of
money because you guys couldn't score more goals over Nashville.

Speaker 5 (01:00):
But how about well, we should have softy. We should
have got a couple more in the second half, for sure.

Speaker 3 (01:05):
Well, beggars can't be choosers, Pal, you win three nothing,
Just be happy with that.

Speaker 2 (01:09):
Was that the best game for you guys this year?
You think.

Speaker 5 (01:13):
One of them? I mean, look, the thing that I
really loved about the group the team after you know,
they had a gutty, gritty, you know, workmanlike shutout in Dallas.
We get the shutout at home, but the guys played
with so much energy defensively, pressing, fighting, tackling and everything

(01:34):
that it led to really good goal scoring chances that
our guys finally put away.

Speaker 4 (01:40):
Hey, sus Ferrara, who assists player of the match, do
you feel like he's kind of looking like the guy
you traded for in January?

Speaker 5 (01:46):
Now? For sure?

Speaker 1 (01:47):
Dick.

Speaker 5 (01:48):
I mean this look the team wide. Maybe Softy's question,
was it the best game the team has played? You know,
you could argue that back and forth.

Speaker 2 (01:57):
About Oben Vargas. I'd have like fifty eight dollars.

Speaker 3 (02:00):
I mean, it's just getting it's getting creepy, to be
honest with you now, Coach. I mean it's it's kind
of disgusting off that he's just foughting over the guy.
He's just you know, cutting out all the newspaper articles,
downloading all the videos about this guy, talk about how
good he's been.

Speaker 2 (02:13):
He was great Saturday. But here's my question.

Speaker 3 (02:15):
If he's so damn good, what are the odds he
gets sold to some team in England or Germany down
the road and he's gone.

Speaker 5 (02:22):
I think that I think that possibility is a real possibility.
The kid has that much talent. I mean, look, I've
seen Clint Dempsey, I've seen you know, Nico Ldero, I've
seen Raoul, I've seen Chad Marsh. I've seen a lot
of good players at this club, and Obed has the
chance to be just as good as some of the

(02:44):
great players that we've had here. He's he's the real deal.

Speaker 4 (02:47):
So in the win, you got Jordan, you got Albert Rusnak,
you got Alex Rodan rolled on healthy with some time
off the bench. Are they ready to start now or
do you still need to ease him in some more?

Speaker 5 (02:58):
No, they're they're they're ready to go. I mean, look, Dick,
I didn't really need them. I mean we're winning three nothing,
But you know I put them on because they're talented players,
and you know, the so called starters, but you know
the team that we started with, you know they played well,
so it was it's it's comforting to know that you

(03:18):
got a really deep team.

Speaker 2 (03:20):
Brian Schweitzer's with us again on the radio show.

Speaker 3 (03:22):
So going off Dick's question there, when you're making starting
lineups kind of in general, man, how do you want
to kind of reward guys who previously gave you a
good game, a good match versus just getting maybe the
better player on the field for that day.

Speaker 5 (03:37):
That's the that's the million dollar question. I mean, you
got to balance out reality where you know, you think
that you know, one guy's considerably better, but maybe the
other guy fits better, the pieces fit together a little
bit better differently. I mean that's coaching in a nutshell.
You got to maximize the talent that you have. You

(03:58):
got to get the players to leave and you know
they can win games, and you've got to put it
all together. And you know, look, I made some good choices.
We won three nothing. So the next game is gonna
be a little bit tricky because, yeah, you might think
that Albert and Jordan and Alex start, but you know,

(04:18):
the other team played well. The other the other group played.

Speaker 2 (04:21):
Well, what is the process of making a starting lineup?
Is that just your call?

Speaker 4 (04:24):
You sit down with the with the coaching staff, you
let them do the starting lineup.

Speaker 2 (04:28):
How does that work?

Speaker 5 (04:30):
Well, we put a bunch of names up on a
dart board and we start throwing dart.

Speaker 2 (04:36):
Uh No, I wouldn't doubt that, by the way, that
you do that at all. Just so you know.

Speaker 5 (04:41):
Look, I mean, we take a lot of information, we
look at our opponents. But you know, I'm one of
the coaches that you know, I don't really like to
change my team too much because of an opponent. You
make little tweaks, but I always want teams to change
for us. Uh. So, you know, you put your best
even guys on the field. Are the best pairings with

(05:02):
the best eleven and you know you make choices and
players that are performing are going to get playing time.

Speaker 2 (05:09):
But you make the final call on the roster like
it it's.

Speaker 5 (05:11):
Your sure, Yeah, for sure.

Speaker 3 (05:14):
Garth when he was here, never barges his way in
and say you're gonna start this guy whether you like
it or not.

Speaker 2 (05:17):
Does that never happened?

Speaker 5 (05:19):
Uh No, he tried to, but I shut him down
pretty quickly.

Speaker 2 (05:25):
Really do you remember the moment when it happened.

Speaker 5 (05:28):
No, there was Look, look, everybody has a voice. So
Adrian has a voice, Craig has a voice, Garth had
a voice. They all get Look. I listened because you know,
I want to take everybody's you know, input. But at
the end of the day, this is this is my job.
I'm the one that that makes the final choices on
who plays and who doesn't.

Speaker 2 (05:47):
Damn right man, damn right well.

Speaker 4 (05:49):
Colorado coming up this week. They're at three points ahead
of you in the in the table right now.

Speaker 2 (05:54):
What do you make of them?

Speaker 5 (05:56):
Well, good team. Our good friend josh Atensil has been starting,
so that was a good move for him, you know,
because playing time here was limited. He you know, Obed
was ahead of him, Christian was ahead of him. So
I'm happy for the kid. But a good team. Starting
with their goalkeeper former US national team goalkeepers Act Stefan.
They've got a good pairing up front. They're two forwards,

(06:18):
fast speedy guy with a strong, powerful guy Mahalabich, quality
MLS player. So big team and we you know we're
going to their place, but you know we're not afraid.
We got a good result in Dallas, and we're looking
to get another result in Colorado.

Speaker 3 (06:33):
Brian, before you let me go back to the open
Vargas thing for a second. So the question was, you know,
how long until he's playing in Germany or England or whatever.
So Jackson, give me just a random Bundesliga team, Just
give me a team.

Speaker 2 (06:44):
Let's go.

Speaker 3 (06:45):
Anybody, bronst Byron Byron?

Speaker 2 (06:48):
Okay, fine, So Byron goes after Oben Vargas.

Speaker 3 (06:51):
Oba Vargas says, I'll go, but only if I can
take my head coach with me. And they agree, and
they call you up and say, hey, he wants you.

Speaker 2 (06:59):
We're not together unless you come with him. What do
you tell him?

Speaker 5 (07:03):
Well, I would go to Bayern Munich because I get
paid a heck of a lot more.

Speaker 2 (07:10):
With that. We will let you go. Man. Expect to
call from Adrian very soon.

Speaker 3 (07:15):
Brian, you're the man, great stuff, good luck this weekend
and we'll talk soon.

Speaker 5 (07:19):
Man.

Speaker 2 (07:19):
Thanks Brian, take care guys, all right.

Speaker 3 (07:21):
Brian Schmetzer with us? Who could blame him right for doing?
Isn't that like the dream drop to go coach a
team like that?

Speaker 4 (07:28):
She's right?

Speaker 2 (07:28):
I mean, what the hell? Five point fifty five we're
gonna break
