(00:25):
Now with Rick Neuheisel, here's Softy and Ditch.

Speaker 2 (00:28):
All right, boys, we're back here at Jimmy's on first
getting ready for the Hawks and forty nine Ers on
Thursday Night Football. We'll get back to the Hawk conversation
with Mike Holngrin today at about four o'clock, but joining
us right now on the radio program. A great time
to have him on the air, fresh off to win
over Michigan. He is no longer the last coach to
beat Michigan at Husky Stadium. Jet Fish now holds that honor.

(00:52):
And this morning I was talking to his ex quarterback
Cody Pickett for the pregame show on Saturday from Iowa
about that game. How about that the Dogs get are
done against the Wolverines. Rick, how are you man?

Speaker 3 (01:03):
It was absolutely wonderful to watch. It was a perfectly
executed game plan and they got rid of what had
been plaguing them the penalties. I think they ended up
for the game with two, So congratulations to everybody and
their concentration. And I tell you what I came away
with watching that game. I think Will Rogers is the
next Rock Party. I think that kid has played so

(01:27):
much college football and he's in a new system, but
he's acclimating quickly. And I think his ability to handle
a pocket, to navigate, you know, and stay in there
and stay in his reads and then throw accurately is
something to behold. And while Rock Party was mister irrelevant
and I don't know where Will's going to get drafted,
I would be a GM very interested in having him

(01:50):
on my team.

Speaker 4 (01:52):
Looking forward to this game this week? Is Iowa carbon
copy of Michigan? Where are the difference is? Because there
seems like there's a lot of similarities.

Speaker 3 (02:00):
You hit the nail on the head. That's exactly right.
You're playing Michigan again, except this time they're wearing black
and gold instead of maize and blue, and you've got
Khalil Mullens instead of Kayleb Johns or Kayleb Johnson instead
of Khalil Mullen. This is a wonderful matchup for Washington

(02:24):
because it's the same game. It's the exact same game,
and if they play as efficiently and is under control
within themselves, they'll be successful.

Speaker 2 (02:33):
Well, they came out and got out to a big lead.
I know the Wolverines came back and took the three
point lead, but don't you want to do more of
the same. You're talking about facing the one hundred and
twenty seventh excuse me, sixty fifth best passing defense in
Collwich football, one hundred and twenty seventh best passing offense meeting.
If you're coaching a team like that, Rick and you're
kind of one dimensional, and you fall behind fourteen to three,

(02:54):
seventeen to three and you have to throw the football,
I mean, that's not the position I believe that Fernce
wants to be in at all.

Speaker 3 (03:02):
You've hit the nail on the head. You're playing one
hundred and twenty seventh ranked passing team and you just
beat the one hundred and thirtieth ranked passing team. Right blueprint, blueprint,
the game plan, but the efficiency and you can't have
it be an excuse that you've got crowd noise, it's
going to be concentration. And it's also an early game.
It's nine o'clock on their body plot, so they have

(03:23):
got to get up and get after it and be
very business like. And that's why a quarterback like Will
Rogers is such an asset in those kinds of situations.

Speaker 4 (03:30):
Rick, we heard so much this offseason when the PAC
twelve teams were preparing to enter the Big Ten. Oh,
it's going to be so hard to travel east and
play those Big ten teams in Big Ten styles. We're
finding out it's pretty damn hard to go the other
way around. And why wasn't more made of Big ten
teams having to come out west or ACC teams in

(03:51):
the sense of Miami going all the way out to
cal and trailing by four touchdowns before they woke up.

Speaker 3 (03:57):
I haven't done the math of the ACC matchups. I
know Virginia Tech traveled in one at Stanford last week,
but the facts of the matter are teams that have
traveled more than two time zones are one in seven
in the Big Ten, one in seven, and so to
be prepared and to be ready, I mean you can
say it's not a big deal, but your body just
feels different and getting into the flow of the game

(04:20):
and your concentration and all that kind of stuff. It is.
It's very, very taxing and you have to and all
of a sudden it becomes a monster that you have
to even imagine. So getting through that and getting that
not to be an excuse is a huge deal for
all teams that are traveling that far.

Speaker 2 (04:36):
Yeah, U Deb's going out there a day early. For Iowa,
they're actually leaving today to be honest with you, to
kind of get acclimated.

Speaker 3 (04:42):
So good move. Well.

Speaker 2 (04:45):
The other one, there's actually four games in the Big
Ten this weekend. Rick Rick New has a courtesy attocket
time where teams are crossing multiple time zones. Another one
is the first Top five matchup I believe ever at
Austin Stadium. Ohio State coming to play the Ducks on
Saturday in Eugene. What do you make of that one?

Speaker 3 (05:02):
The numbers say it's Ohio State. They're better in almost
every category. Uh, they're they're playing a team that's really
good in in uh Oregon. Oregon has you know, got
great numbers, but Ohio State has been elite. The question
is who is the Ohio State play And I think
now that we know more about asking genty and the
Boise State Broncos, we can give Oregon a little credit

(05:24):
for that way. I think this is gonna be about
Odston Stadium. Can Otston Stadium disrupt will Howard can Otsen
Stadium disrupt this high flying Ohio State offense? Because if
genty was that good, what will these two running backs
do against this team? And that's that's gonna be the

(05:45):
ultimate test, because Chip Kelly, if you can, we'll run
it down those ruts.

Speaker 4 (05:49):
Well, Rick, I'm gonna ask you this question about this game,
and then I'm gonna duck because Softy is gonna throw
his class at me. All right, right, are you ready
for this? Should we as should we as Husky fans
be rooting for Oregon in this game because we play them?
And if there's any thoughts of a nine to three
Big Ten team making the playoffs, you need wins over

(06:09):
teams like Oregon and a three lost team. Let's say
the Huskies lose at Penn State, but they run the table.
They'll have wins at Oregon, at Iowa, at Indiana, Michigan,
and USC. That's a playoff esque resume. So the question
do we root for Oregon on Saturdays?

Speaker 2 (06:23):
You better duck them throws out here because blasphemous.

Speaker 3 (06:27):
As blasphemous is that sound, And as difficult as it
might be for even the sternest of Husky fans in
the in the case of softee Dave Softie Mahler, let
me just say this, Yes, you want Ohio State to
take anel here because you've got Oregon, you have the
opportunity to uh right the wrongs and uh there's no

(06:48):
question that you're that you're pulling for Oregon in this game.

Speaker 2 (06:50):
Yeah, all right, Hey real quick, before we get to
your Taco Time pick of the week, I won't say
the record.

Speaker 3 (06:56):
Are we going there? Yeah, we want to talk.

Speaker 2 (06:58):
We are, We have to.

Speaker 4 (06:59):
We have Taco's little sponsoring.

Speaker 3 (07:02):
I'm man enough and I'm saying I'm terrible, But you
know what, that just is a microcosm of how great
this game is, how many crazy things can happen.

Speaker 2 (07:11):
Well, don't don't, don't give the pick out yet, because
Taco Time has informed me that if you get this
one wrong, they're dumping you. We're gonna go with a
food truck from the gas station to sponsor the radio show.
By the way, so before we get to that real quick,
Calin de Boor loses to Vanderbilt. I'm seeing media people
that are criticizing him for his attire on the sideline.

(07:31):
Some guy wrote a story about why is that guy
wearing a T shirt? One guy asked him at the
press conference why he wasn't angrier after the game on Saturday.
Take us behind the scenes and try to put us
into the head of Kaitlin de Boor and how he
handles this new world order that he's experiencing in Tuscaloosa.

Speaker 3 (07:50):
He can't pay any attention to it. He has to
be him. That's the only thing he knows how to do.
He can't start changing who he is. He can't do
He has to be him. And he's got to make
sure that players understand he's going to beat him, and
they got to be held accountable. I was a little
concerned he didn't hold Malachi More a little bit more
accountable for those crazy Annics at the end of the game, right,

(08:10):
But at the end of the day, Kaitlin's going to
be Kaylan. The University of Alabama is wacky. They go
crazy over this game, and they've been spoiled like nobody's
business with Bear Bryant and Nick Saban. And Bear Bryant
wore a tie and a hounds tooth hat. Nick Saban
had the nicest sweaters on our jackets, and you know,
always with a blazer in pregame and the whole deal.

(08:30):
That's just not Kaylin and Kaitlin doesn't have to be
Nick Saban. It doesn't have to be Bear Bryant. If
he stays the course, he'll be one of the great
coaches at Alabama by Bailey, by being Kaylan.

Speaker 2 (08:40):
All right, let's get to it, oh and seven on
your tacolate time pick of the week. I've been telling
you for a week I'm going to ride it hard,
and I'm going to keep riding it hard man, I am.
If this doesn't work out this week, I may be
flying to Arizona to move in with you, Pal, To
be honest.

Speaker 3 (08:55):
With you, You're welcome. I've always got a room for you, baby,
Listen to me. One of the players that I'd come
out of retirement to coach is the quarterback at Kansas State.
His name is Avery Johnson. I think he's a star.
I believe that great things are in store, and I
believe they'll happen this week in Boulder. They're a four
point pick over Colorado. I think their defense is stern

(09:16):
enough to give Shadur a problem. And I like Kansas
State on the road covering the four.

Speaker 2 (09:21):
All right, Kansas State minus the four against Colorado.

Speaker 4 (09:25):
Deon's on the phone.

Speaker 2 (09:26):
Here we go, man, here we go. All right, Rick,
we'll talking a week. Appreciate it passed.

Speaker 3 (09:30):
Thank you to you boys,
