Speaker 1 (00:01):
It's time for Sadi and Dick's weekly visit with Seattle
crack and head coach Dan Bilesma, brought to you by
Dick's Drive In serving great burgers, fries and Chase the
hockey fan since nineteen fifty four.

Speaker 2 (00:13):
Stop into one of the nine Dicks Driving's locations today
now with our head.

Speaker 3 (00:17):
Coach Dan Bilsma. Deer's safdiand all.

Speaker 2 (00:21):
Right, boys that girls back here on a busy Wednesday afternoon,
get back to some of the Cummings Wings in the
NFL in a matter of minutes. But our weekly conversation
brought to you by our friends at Dick's Drive Ins
with the head coach of your Seattle Kraken, Dan Balzma,
with us right now on ninety three three KJRFM, coach,
how are you?

Speaker 3 (00:39):
I'm doing good today? Game day? Yeah?

Speaker 2 (00:41):
I love it. I mean I feel terrible intruding on
your game day routine. How much is this just throwing
you off your funk shway having to talk to us
on game day?

Speaker 3 (00:51):
Man? A little bit, A little bit. We're all about
We're all about routine, and I'm not superstitious. So do
the same thing over and over again, and we got
to make this a superstition. Yeah, well today, and I'll
talk to you again next game.

Speaker 2 (01:07):
That's right, that's right. Your your win today. You'll be
coming on every pregame. If you lose today, it's not
our fault. By the way, don't don't don't blame us.
But you've played a few games under your belt since
since the trades. Uh, give us an idea of just
how the boys have responded, how they've come together since
the shakeup, if you will.

Speaker 3 (01:28):
I think it's uh, you know, it's uh, it's an
emotional time of year. I think it's on everybody's mind,
and it's on the team's mind. I'll say, when you
get to the trade deadline and having had some trades,
some guys going out, some guys that were a part
of this team for a while, that's a that's emotional.

(01:50):
It's a big moment for the team. I think, uh,
with the leadership of Jordan Everley, I think the players
have responded, uh with I don't want to say our
two best games of the year, but when you're talking
about winning efforts, when you're talking about doing the little
things and compete level. The last two games against Philly
and Washer or two of our benchmarks for the year.

Speaker 1 (02:12):
Well, that Philadelphia game that was one of, like you mentioned,
one of the most impressive games of the year. Talk
about Groovy in that game. How about a ninety five
point eight save percentage in his time back.

Speaker 3 (02:23):
Yeah, awesome for Groovy to step in there, I think,
and just even how the game unfolded. We had to
kill three penalties off and in the first period, which
which meant he had some action and we had some
good quality scoring chances. He had some second chances in
and around the net, and he came up big. Was
bigger than that for us. Gave us a chance to

(02:44):
well we you know, continue that game forward and win
that game ultimately. Is so it was great, great for him,
Great for him to step back in there after his
time in CV and get us a win.

Speaker 2 (02:55):
It kind of feels like this is maybe a good
time for a young kid like a Shane Wright to
continue to climb and continue to star for you. I mean,
you look up, coach and all of a sudden, he's
what fourth and points on your team overall. And I
don't know, maybe I'm just being too simplistic here, but
the way he's playing, he really kind of looks like
he's the future of this team and that there's a

(03:17):
chance for him to prove that to you in the
final seventeen games of the year.

Speaker 3 (03:21):
I to me, we were again we h we talked
a couple of weeks ago with you know, this team
has a mindset of winning the two out of three
games and playing their best hockey going down the stretch
here and that is Shane included. And I think you

(03:42):
you know with with Shane and Maddie and Chandler Stevens
send down the middle of the rink, it's you know,
one of one of the keys to a good hockey
team is strong down the middle in the center position.
And you know, since since mid Uk played in November
when Shane set out the three games, his points, his production,
his goals have been at the tops for our team.

(04:04):
And it continues. It's continued, you know recently as the
late and scoring scoring goals again in on the Spur
sheet almost every night with his line. And that's that
bodes well, that's a good future for us.

Speaker 1 (04:17):
How about the performance of another twenty one year old
that just got his debut in Malonson.

Speaker 3 (04:24):
Mel He's I think, I hope, hopefully you got a
chance to watch that game, because I think Mel's a
player who can make a statement with each and every
game he plays, whether it's ten minutes of hockey or
fifteen minutes of hockey. He has a knack for sticking
his nose in the in the action, getting I say,

(04:47):
three yards and a cloud of dust. Is Mel in
his game and stepped into Nashville and did just that.
Played ten minutes of hockey. But that was filled with
it was still with physicality, was filled with energy, was
filled with us crumbs around the net. That's that's exactly
what you're gonna get from Mel.

Speaker 2 (05:03):
I mean every night, coach, I gotta tell you if
there's one thing that we need more of, its phonetics
in hockey. Yeah, I mean you got this. This Finnish kid?

Speaker 3 (05:11):
Is it? Is it? Yannie? Nyman?

Speaker 2 (05:13):
Am I getting his name right? Please tell me I
get it right?

Speaker 3 (05:16):
Newman. It's You're You're gonna I'm not gonna be one
hundred percent confident. I never am with a finished name,
but yes it is. It's Newman. Got you all right?

Speaker 2 (05:25):
Because I'm gonna say if you don't know that, I
don't feel bad for not knowing you Yeah.

Speaker 3 (05:29):
It took me a while to get comfortable with saying
the name as Newman because I was looking for some
finished pronunciation. And but it's Yannie Newman.

Speaker 2 (05:40):
Yes, what's his stats?

Speaker 3 (05:41):
Newman? Yeah, it's he's going to be playing tonight. Good,
he's gonna be Uh. I said this, this is a
guy who you know, there's a there's a big promise
for the future with with this guy because of his shot.
He's got an electric shot. He's got an NHL's I
want to say NHL shot because it's better than the

(06:03):
most And when he's playing his game, you're going to
see this guy with a one timer. He's on the
opposite side of Ovechkin, but on the power play one
time or over in that spot. But he's a big
body guy who when he's playing his game, like his
shot is a statement when he's out in every ice

(06:23):
and he's you know, he's done a good job of
developing that this year. He stepped over last year's TV
at the end of the year and got used to
North America, got used to North American hockey this year
in CBE, twenty six goals leads the rookie and scoring
and to see a highlight reel of his goals. You're
going to see fifteen sixteen, seven time, mb A one

(06:44):
time or a heavy rister from that side. It's overpowering.

Speaker 1 (06:49):
What are you looking for when you're watching Malanson or
Newman like? Is there something specific that you're looking for,
whether it's confidence or just taking the next up? What
what do you keep your eyes on when these guys
are out on the ice.

Speaker 3 (07:04):
It's a it's a it's a difficult thing. I think
for first time NHL game, you know, stepping into the
NHL as a young kid. And most important thing is
you just go out and play your game. If you
have a confidence to go out and do what you
can do. It's the worst thing that can happen is
at the end of the game, we don't know what
kind of player you are and and don't need to

(07:25):
think about mistakes. You don't need to worry about you know,
we all we'll all make them. Just don't worry about
you know where you should be, how it should go.
Put all that side, Go out play your game, make
sure we all know how you what you are as
a player at the end of the match. I love it.

Speaker 2 (07:41):
Hey, go get in tonight. A little bit later, seven
thirty face off. We'll have the game on radio. Best
of luck, and again, if you win tonight, you'll just
come on every pregame and we'll just call it good.
All right, So get ready.

Speaker 3 (07:53):
We'll plan on talking on Friday.

Speaker 2 (07:55):
Done all right, Dan Bis with us head coach of
the Krack, and we got to face off at seven
thirty against the Canadians. We're gonna break a lot more
to get to on a busy, busy Wednesday with NFL.
Petro is gonna join us and talk about Sam Darnold.
He's from his neck of the woods down there in California.
