(00:58):
Seattle's closest sports booksta Quam Casino and Hotel. Speaking of
our playoff coverage, what do you say we head down
to T Mobile Park right now? Because Duke Rayley is
standing by joining us on the phone. Luke, first of all,
thanks for doing this, man, and then second of all, dude,
we're fired up.
Speaker 3 (01:14):
I know you're fired up.
Speaker 2 (01:15):
Tell us about the buzz dude inside that clubhouse right now.
Speaker 4 (01:18):
Yeah, it's been a lot of fun. You know, see
the fans how how engaged they are just to come
watching their squad. But yeah, it's been it's been really exciting.
And you know, we've gone out there and played hard,
and that's kind of what we've been preaching is to
stay ready. We got to play play like it's a
real game. So we're going out there and really competing
and it's been a lot of fun.
Speaker 2 (01:38):
Yeah, tell me about just taking this time off. Obviously,
the scrimmages are meant to keep you guys focused and
keep you guys in rhythm, But tell me about what
else you're doing.
Speaker 3 (01:48):
Kind of behind the scenes.
Speaker 2 (01:49):
You know, I saw a bunch of guys were at
the hockey game last night at Climate Pledge against the
oilers for the Kraken. Talk about kind of what you
guys are doing behind the scenes to make sure you
don't lose the edge.
Speaker 4 (02:00):
Yeah, I mean we're we're, you know, doing everything we
need to do to get our bodies ready to to
make this playoff run. And outside of that, we're just
trying to do things as a team and you know,
boost that team chemistry and keep keep things going like that.
Speaker 2 (02:15):
Yeah, well, talk about talk about what this clubhouse is
like right now. I mean there's a belief obviously from
this fan base that I know kind of you know,
permeates inside that clubhouse as well. You know, Logan Gilbert
was on with us a few weeks ago or a
week ago talking about, Hey, we think we can win
the whole frickin thing. What's the what's the confidence level
like in that clubhouse right now? What's the camaraderie like
(02:36):
in that clubhouse right now?
Speaker 4 (02:38):
Yeah, it's exactly that, you know, the expectations to go
out and go go win the whole thing. So we're
just doing everything that we need to do to prepare
us to go make that run and go win the
whole thing.
Speaker 3 (02:52):
Luke, how much does home field matter?
Speaker 5 (02:54):
And we would hear about it all the time in
the football playoffs and the NBA playoffs, not as much
in Major League Baseball, but you got guys have a
heck of a record at Tea Mobile Park, So how
much does it matter to you guys?
Speaker 4 (03:04):
Yeah, No, it's I think that you know, there's different
things that home field advantage play up in basketball and football,
but you know, being at home is important. We play
half our games here where you know, there's not a
team more familiar with the batters I hear or you know,
playing in the conditions here in Seattle. So yeah, and
(03:26):
then obviously you've got you've got all the fans behind
you and cheering you on and stuff like that, so
it it's definitely definitely an advantage.
Speaker 2 (03:34):
Well, Mariner, Luke Raley is with us, and this being
your second year in Seattle, you were obviously not here
a few years ago when the ball club made the playoffs.
Speaker 3 (03:42):
But I'm sure you've heard it enough to understand that.
Speaker 2 (03:45):
You know, look, this is only the only team in
baseball that's never played in a World Series. It's really
the one thing that we haven't done here in this
town as a sports city. Tell me about that, about
how much of an accomplishment and how much of an
almost responsibility you guys feel in some ways to get
us off that list and get this team to the
World Series for the first time ever.
Speaker 4 (04:07):
Yeah, obviously that that is definitely our goal and something
that we're striving to, But that's that's not necessarily the focus.
The focus is making sure that we're ready to go
come Saturday and ready to make this run.
Speaker 3 (04:22):
Yeah, well, how is this team ready for this?
Speaker 2 (04:24):
I mean, talk about that, like if somebody asked you, hey,
why is this team built for the playoffs? Because a
five game series, a five game sample, luke of one
hundred and.
Speaker 3 (04:32):
Sixty two game season.
Speaker 2 (04:33):
I mean, you know, as well as I anything can happen,
you know, wonky stuff happens in baseball. It's not always
the best team with the best record that wins the
World Series. So why is this team prepared? Why are
they built for this five game series and beyond?
Speaker 4 (04:48):
Yeah? I mean I think I think that with our
starting pitching and our bullpen, they're you know, I don't
think that there's really anyone better in baseball that they're
going to run out the guys that we're going to
run out there and keep us in games. And obviously
then turn over to the offense and we've got you know,
dude that hit sixty hummers, another dude that hit forty nine.
(05:10):
We just have the ability to get on baits driving runs.
That's the combination you need. And then on top of
that we play really good defense.
Speaker 3 (05:17):
Luke.
Speaker 5 (05:17):
Obviously, some big trade deadline deals pulled off by Jerry
and justin just talk about what that did for your clubhouse,
bringing in guys like Aohannio and Josh Naylor.
Speaker 4 (05:29):
Yeah, I think you know everybody obviously Fancier new new
geno since he'd been here before and knew what he
brought to the team. But you know, none of us
really knew Naylor coming into it, and he's been even
more than we could have asked for. Obviously his production
on the field, but as a leader in the clubhouse,
(05:51):
and you know, he's not afraid to speak his mind
and kind of share his experience through the playoffs and
in those kind of thing. So he's been nice to
have around and pick his brain. And kind of just
what he shared, and you know he also brings in
a good positive energy and those kind of things.
Speaker 2 (06:10):
Well, this is your second playoff appearance. You did it
your first year in baseball with the Dodgers. Man, give
us a thought on just kind of what it feels like.
I mean, it's been three years for Mariner fans, but
obviously a long time since they've been to the ALCS,
going back to two thousand and one. What was that
experience like for you in twenty one with the Dodgers,
And how does this thing feel different? You think on
(06:31):
game day on Saturday versus the regular season.
Speaker 4 (06:35):
Yeah, I mean it's it's it's not. It's the same game.
The only difference is, yeah, you know, you know what's
at stake here, right, So you got to win win
three games before, you know, in this first series before
the other team wins three games. So knowing that in mind,
we go out there and just play our game of
baseball and we'll be just fine.
Speaker 2 (06:55):
Luke Rayley, listen, man, great stuff, get it done. Go
enjoy the screen image, man, have some fun, try to
soak it all up, and we'll see you Saturday at
the park.
Speaker 3 (07:03):
Man. Appreciate this buddy, thanks man.
Speaker 4 (07:06):
Absolutely sounds good.
Speaker 2 (07:07):
Yeah, you got it, man, Luke Raley with us on
the radio show. And obviously the Tigers have won. They
will see the Tigers starting on Saturday. We know the
game time on Sunday night at five oh eight. If
Boston wins against the Yankees tonight, the game is at
one oh eight. If the Yankees win today, the game
is at five thirty eight on Saturday. Either way, we're
(07:28):
gonna be at Tom's Watch Bar on Saturday for the
Huskies Maryland game. And like you said, if you play
at one o'clock, you'll watch both with us at Tom's
Watch Bar across the street from Climate Pledge Arena. If not,
you'll stay and watch the Mariners and we'll take off
and go watch them play at Temobile Park. After the
Huskies in Maryland play at twelve thirty, we're gonna break.
Taylor will swing by with her patented pick of the
(07:50):
week for a five twenty bar and Grow gift card.
We'll hear a little bit from Brian Wu as well
next on ninety three to three KJRFM
