of the pen. You know, I think that's the plan
here going forward. And he's in good spot and is
you know, he's feeling good and and uh, you know,
I think at this point that's where we're going to
see him coming out of the pen.

pitch tomorrow Brian wou out of the bullpen potentially today
if needed against Toronto and joining us right now across
the street. Longtime Mariner coach, infield coach, one of the
best in baseball, Perry Hill is with us right now
on the Beacon Plumbing hotline. Coach, how you doing?

Speaker 4 (01:14):
How about you guys?

Speaker 3 (01:15):
Stressed out beyond belief that we're fans, so we got
nothing to do with any of this stuff. Man, So
tell us you've been around coach game? Okay, Well, if
you're telling me don't don't stress, and I won't stress.
But you've been You've been around this game a long time.
Tell me about how you flush last night. Move on,
forget it and go get a win today in game four.

Speaker 5 (01:39):
Once you leave the clubhouse last night. Once, once the
players and coaches we left the clubhouse last night, it's done.

Speaker 4 (01:45):
It's over.

Speaker 5 (01:45):
There's nothing we can do about it. Can't go back
and replay anything. So there's no things worrying about it.

Speaker 4 (01:51):
Uh you come.

Speaker 5 (01:52):
We walked into the clubhouse doors today. It's a brand
new day. It's an opportunity for us to win ball game.
That's what we plan on doing.

Speaker 6 (01:58):
Does the coaching staff give that message to the team
or there are a bunch of veterans you you know
that they've already they already know that.

Speaker 4 (02:06):
Well, it's it's an over group that we have this year,
you know, with with with gen O, JP, josh Uh Julio, although.

Speaker 5 (02:15):
He's been the league four years now, Randy, they know,
you know, tomorrow's over.

Speaker 4 (02:20):
It's a new days. You know, it's it's a chance
for us to to win the game and go up
three to one.

Speaker 3 (02:25):
Yeah, does the does the vibe feel different from regular
season baseball to playoff baseball? Because I know that everyone
will say things like, hey man, every game is the same.
You take every bull crap as a fan, I'm I'm
freaking man, compared to this versus the regular season. So
do you feel that different vibe in that clubhouse right now?

Speaker 5 (02:45):
Well, usually there's you like five or six reporters and
a couple of news uh news tasks going on. But
now there's like one hundred out here. So the bustle,
the different atmosphere, the different coverage and the nash little coverage.
It gets the players pumped up, not that they're not
during the regular season, but you know there's once you

(03:07):
come out of the dug out the tunnel and get
walk up on the field, you know something's different.

Speaker 6 (03:12):
Coach SOFTI mentioned the stress. How do you let that
stress help you defensively instead of letting it get the
better of you defensively? What do you communicate to your
guys and how do they how do they take that.

Speaker 4 (03:28):
Preparation.

Speaker 5 (03:29):
You know, we do a ground ball routine every day,
and somewhere in the routine there's probably a ball or two.

Speaker 4 (03:37):
That is going to happen tonight. It's going to be
hit to you this in.

Speaker 5 (03:40):
This fashion, in this situation. Studying hitters tendencies, you know
where they hit the ball more often.

Speaker 4 (03:49):
It's preparation.

Speaker 5 (03:50):
If you're prepared, then you're ready to play any game,
whether it's Merch thirty, first opening day, or if it's
October sixteenth, Game four of the ac ALCS.

Speaker 3 (04:01):
Well Perry Hill Mariner infield coaches with us and coach.
You're making the move with Leo at second base tonight,
tell us about what went into making that move and
giving him the start at second tonight.

Speaker 5 (04:13):
I wish I could answer that question. That's the question
for Dan. I have nothing to do with the lineups. Yeah,
they give me six infielders and that's my job is
to get them prepared and hope they play well. During
the course of the game. But I have nothing to
do with lineup construction.

Speaker 3 (04:27):
Yeah, no doubt. But let me ask you about Leo
and why you think he's ready for this. I mean,
you know him better than we do behind the scenes.
I mean we've seen him be clutch for you guys.
Tell us more about Leo behind the scenes and what
he's done preparation wise to be ready for this game tonight.

Speaker 5 (04:41):
Leo's a good, good player. He makes all the plays.
He's fundamentally sound to give you a good at bad.
He'll take a walk, he won't chase, he won't overswing.

Speaker 4 (04:50):
He knows who he is.

Speaker 5 (04:51):
He stays within himselves, and players like that are consistent.
I mean, he's played but nine ten years in the
minor leagues. I mean, uh, he's prepared. You know, he's
probably hadn't been on this biggest stage before that. Certainly
didn't hurting the other day against the Tigers.

Speaker 4 (05:07):
Yea.

Speaker 6 (05:09):
Do you prepare differently before the game based upon the
pitcher that you have on the mound? Like you know
yesterday obviously George is throwing a lot of sinkers. You know,
do you prepare for when when you have a sinker?
Ball pitcher on the mound, you prepare differently than if
you have I'm more of a four seemer on a
fastball guy on the mount.

Speaker 4 (05:25):
Well, that's a question for Kevin Seitzer and Edgar I
mean defensively.

Speaker 6 (05:30):
I meant defensively, yeah, oh, for you went on the Mariners. Yes,
when the Mariners have a different picture on the mount, yes.

Speaker 4 (05:40):
Yes, okay, yeah, sorry I misundersted questions. Uh, yes, yes,
I mean you don't play everybody the same way every day.

Speaker 5 (05:48):
Has a lot to do with the pitching plan, and
it has a lot to do how they adjust as
a hitter to the plans.

Speaker 4 (05:54):
So I mean you may see.

Speaker 5 (05:55):
Leo play Blaby one way the first in and by
the time the sixth inning gets around, you maybe play
him a different way because maybe he's bloody swing is changing.
You know, a lot of these guys are big home
run hitters and swing hard. Maybe they do the first
two to three innings, but you know, especially in a
playoff atmosphere, if there's RBIs out there on base, they'll

(06:17):
change their swing to get those runs here. So defensively
we have to be in two with that as well.

Speaker 4 (06:22):
I love it.

Speaker 3 (06:22):
Hey, listen, I've never asked you for anything in my life.
And if you give me this, you don't even have
to buy me a Hanaka present. Just give me a
win tonight, all right, coach, That's all I want.

Speaker 4 (06:33):
Okay, all right, They'll be for myself as well done. Done.

Speaker 3 (06:37):
Hey, good luck tonight, Perry.

Speaker 4 (06:38):
Okay, thanks, okay, thank you, sir? What being on you bet?

Speaker 3 (06:42):
Likewise, Perry Hill with us Mariner infield, coach, we got
a couple minutes. What do you say we kind of
revisit more of the Dan Wilson pregame dick with the media,
where he did announce that Bryce Miller will start tomorrow
and Brian will be coming out of the pen. Here's
Dan's thoughts on tonight's game, starting with a question about
the lineup tonight against the Blue Jays.

Speaker 2 (07:00):
Dan, today's line up Can Zone in the field, Robeblest
starting on the bench.

Speaker 1 (07:04):
Just what kind of went to the mindset to make
that decision for today's game?

Speaker 2 (07:08):
Yeah, I mean I think, uh, you know, we've seen
some really good at bats from from Leo throughout his
time with our club, certainly the game against Detroit, you know,
picking up that huge pinch hit knock and uh you know,
what he's done at second base is stellar as well.
So getting a chance to get him in there, and
and you know, I think it should.

Speaker 1 (07:28):
Work out well.

Speaker 2 (07:29):
Dom has played right field all season for US and
and handles that well and and you know, allows Polo
a chance to d h tonight. So you know, just
a good time to get Leo in the lineup.

Speaker 1 (07:39):
And you have a Game five starter.

Speaker 2 (07:41):
Yeah, Bryce Miller will take the hill forest tomorrow night.
And uh, you know, obviously pitched well against Toronto and
in the first game, and and you know, looking forward
to giving him.

Speaker 4 (07:52):
To Baltimore being that Bryce is sorry tomorrow.

Speaker 5 (07:54):
What is the plan for Brian at this point?

Speaker 2 (07:56):
Yeah, you know, Brian's going to be available out of
the pen and and and you know, I think that's
the plan here going forward. And uh, you know, he's
he's in good spot and is you know, he's feeling
good and and you know, I think at this point
that's that's where we're going to see him coming out
of the pen.

Speaker 6 (08:11):
Dan Is Victor Oblis full strength after going into the
board's kind of hard yesterday out today.

Speaker 2 (08:16):
Yeah, yeah, he's fine. You know, a great catch, great effort,
which is you know, what we always see from Victor
and as we talked about last night, sort of reminiscent
of that play in San Francisco. But you know, going
in there hard. But but you know, that's that's the
effort you always get from Victor.

Speaker 4 (08:31):
Dan. What what are.

Speaker 2 (08:33):
The challenges that Brian might now face transitioning into a
role that he hasn't had, at least at the big
league level.

Speaker 1 (08:39):
We know he did back in college.

Speaker 2 (08:40):
Yeah, you know, I think obviously it's it's a different
kind of a role. You know, he had a chance
to do it in the All Star Game, so maybe a
little bit of experience coming in coming out of a pen.
But uh, you know, again this is this is the
time of year where you ask people to do things
that that they're not as comfortable doing or they haven't
done as much. But but you know, he's got a

(09:02):
wealth of people that will help him. You know, the
Rock Logan Gilbert did it recently. They can help. So
I think I think he'll be in good shape. And
again I think he's excited to get back out.

Speaker 3 (09:14):
Okay, there you go. So Bryce Miller is starting tomorrow,
and it sounds like when he said going forward that
Brian Woo's going to be in the bullpen, maybe even
for the World Series if they make it. We'll see,
but that sets up potentially Dick, Bryce Miller tomorrow, Logan
Gilbert again on Sunday, and then on Monday night, you're
either going to have your pick of George Kirby in

(09:34):
Game seven who pitched yesterday, or potentially Luis Castillo on
four days rest on Monday night in Toronto.

Speaker 6 (09:41):
If it goes that far, you have at least a
wash every game, if not the advantage. So you've got
a wash when Gossman's on the mound, You've got an
advantage when everybody else is on the mound. So there's
no reason why they shouldn't take care of this series.

Speaker 3 (09:55):
Well, tonight they got the big advantage I think with
Castillo and Scherzer. So we'll see game number four coming
up tonight at five thirty eight. Rick Newheisl is going
to join us and talk about a fairly important Husky
game as well on Saturday next on ninety three three
