brought to you by Emerald Queen Casino on Sports Radio

Speaker 2 (00:17):
Oh god, I love it. Man.
Speaker 3 (00:18):
This is the end of this Week in Baseball. Closing
theme of this Weekend Baseball. The name of the song
is gathering crowds freaking Awesome.
Speaker 2 (00:26):
Yeah, I did not know the name.
Speaker 3 (00:28):
Well, I reckon the openers from the TV show The
game Show Jackpot, which they ripped off from the nineteen sixties.
But man, do kids still watch shows like that? They
even have shows like that anymore? Well, I wonder if
our next guest watched this Week in Baseball back in
the day.
Speaker 4 (00:41):
He's probably too You don't even have this all when
he was a kid.
Speaker 3 (00:45):
He's only thirty one. He probably has no idea what
the hell we're talking about. Taylor Sasseto from the Mariner
Bullpen joining us from across the street at T Mobile Park.
Speaker 2 (00:53):
Sauce, how are you, man? What's going on?
Speaker 5 (00:57):
I'm doing pretty good?
Speaker 2 (00:58):
How are you?
Speaker 5 (00:58):
Guys?
Speaker 2 (00:59):
We are good? Are you? Are you too young to remember?
Speaker 3 (01:02):
Like this Week in Baseball and Johnny Bench of the
Fun Bunch, all those TV shows back in the day.
Speaker 5 (01:09):
Yeah, I think that kind of dates me a little bit.
Speaker 2 (01:12):
Just a little bit. It dates us for sure. I
mean we are older, you are close, not even close.
Speaker 3 (01:18):
Well, dude, what I do want to ask you about
is you played baseball to Homa. You moved around a
lot when you were a kid because your dad was
in the military.
Speaker 2 (01:25):
But does this still kind of feel like home for you?
And just does this feel like.
Speaker 3 (01:30):
You're living the childhood dream of playing for the team
that you grew up rooting for.
Speaker 6 (01:35):
Man, Oh, yeah, no, it's definitely still home for me.
Been staying here for a while now, and every single
day it's it's a kind of a pinchery moment, you know,
like you used to sit in these stands all the time,
and you know, I'm in my third year now, and
it still doesn't feel real that you know, I'm a player,
still feels sometimes like I'm a fan.
Speaker 5 (01:55):
Just that just gets an up close view to it.
Speaker 4 (01:58):
So I will ask you, if I'm a little closer
to your age, do you remember the great Mariner teams
two thousand, two thousand and one, two thousand, and two
the ones that guys like your manager and your hitting
coach were on.
Speaker 6 (02:13):
Yeah, that's like kind of when I started paying attention
to baseball a little bit. And no, those are you know,
like John Olierude, you know, Dan Wilson. All those guys
are guys that I really idolized. And it's like kind
of just crazy. Like even yesterday, Dan and Each Hero
were playing catch, just like casually, and I'm like, what
(02:34):
a weird Like never in my life, what I would
have ever just like walked past these two on the
same fields, you know, getting ready for Opening Day tomorrow.
It's just crazy to think about sometimes.
Speaker 2 (02:43):
Yeah, well you mentioned each Hero there.
Speaker 3 (02:45):
I'm glad you brought that up because you spent some
time in Japan when you were a kid, and that
probably had to be right in the wheelhouse off each
Yearro's great years as a Mariner. So tell me about
kind of the influence that each Yi Ro had on
you when you were a kid, And tell me about
meeting him for the first time.
Speaker 2 (02:59):
Do you remember that?
Speaker 6 (03:01):
Oh yeah, it's actually a pretty funny story. But no,
I think watching each Rod grow up, I think he
was like we all did you know I'd imitate his
batting stance, and I always think that I could hit
like that, and you know, watching him just play the
outfield was just like one of the coolest things.
Speaker 5 (03:19):
And especially like I think.
Speaker 6 (03:20):
I really started to fall in love with him when
after that throw when he against the Athletics and you know,
the ball just didn't come out and chrop the ground.
It was just unbelievable. All the things that he did
on the field was just like incredible and just so
fun to watch.
Speaker 5 (03:33):
Just a unique.
Speaker 6 (03:34):
Player, just kind of different than what we were used
to seeing, and it was so cool. And you know,
the first time, like he's always kind of been bigger
than life to me. And you know, the first time
I saw him in spring training my first year with
the Mariners, he started to walk down the hallway and
I turned the corner and I just like saw him
like live, you know, right there for the first time,
(03:56):
and I actually got so scared. I turned around and
just walked back to my locker and started like picking
at things.
Speaker 5 (04:02):
And I'm sitting there and I'm like, why did I
just do that? Why did I just say hi? But
I got so scared. I didn't know what to do.
Speaker 3 (04:08):
God, that sounds like a Chris Farley idiot moment, like
what are you doing?
Speaker 2 (04:13):
That is hilarious.
Speaker 5 (04:15):
That's exactly That's exactly how it went.
Speaker 2 (04:18):
Taylor.
Speaker 4 (04:19):
You were All State in twenty eleven, and twenty four
months before you were All State you were cut from
the JV team.
Speaker 2 (04:26):
What the hell.
Speaker 4 (04:27):
Happened in twenty four months? Did you go cut from
the JV team to All State?
Speaker 6 (04:33):
I think kind of that's kind of been like the
theme of my life, you know, like I kind of
just was I felt a little disrespected.
Speaker 5 (04:41):
You know, I'm like I feel like I'm.
Speaker 6 (04:42):
Like pretty good at this game, you know, like I'm
gonna go prove them wrong. And it's just like that
ship on my shoulder. I've always I've always had my
parents grew up calling me water Boy because from the
movie Adam Sandler, because like you hear one thing and
you just turn it on. And that's kind of how
I've always carried myself, you know, I kind of hold
that grudge like whatever, like okay, I'll show them. So
(05:04):
it's it's it's crazy, but yeah, that was that was
a wild time.
Speaker 3 (05:07):
Okay, So the water Boy used to imagine like his
enemies and he'd go rip their heads off. So when
you're on the mound, do you see that high school
coach that cut you and you want to drill him
in the head.
Speaker 6 (05:21):
No, I just I just want to prove them wrong,
show them, you know, like, I'm gonna get this guy
as quickly as possible, you know what I'm saying, Like,
because then I means the runners are on. Then things
that happen. You know, I'm trying to get him in
and out as cool as as possible. But uh yeah,
just like I just kind of pictured that anger on me,
you know.
Speaker 2 (05:37):
I love that. Well.
Speaker 3 (05:38):
Taylor Salcedo is with us on the radio show, so dude,
there's so much conversation about the rotation, and for good reason,
because they're freaking awesome, right. I mean, they got some
of the biggest names in baseball.
Speaker 2 (05:48):
But with you and Brash.
Speaker 3 (05:50):
And Santos and Munno's tell me about what you guys
think this bullpen can beat.
Speaker 5 (05:59):
I mean, I I think it could be one of
the best.
Speaker 6 (06:01):
I think we've always seen that, especially you know, in
this park, and we're returning majority of the same guys,
so we all have that trust in each other, you know,
I think a lot of people are sleeping on it
right now because we don't have brash and stuff like that.
Speaker 5 (06:14):
But you know, I think once we get him back,
it's only going to elevate this bullpen even more.
Speaker 6 (06:19):
You got guys who have been here and done it now,
and they know the ins and outs and what we
want and so like, I just I think that with
who we are and and everything that we've gone through,
I think that it's gonna be one of the best ones.
And you know, people are gonna be truly uh, they're
gonna be fun to watch.
Speaker 4 (06:36):
You know. It didn't seem like Scott Servis had a
lot of roles for his pitchers. It was kind of
just like every game was a little bit different. So
how about Dan Wilson, I mean, is there is there
a more talk about set roles and this is when
you expect to pitch versus when service was here.
Speaker 6 (06:54):
I mean, not necessarily, but I think I think Dan
is is he kind of has like roles like that,
but I think he also is gonna, you.
Speaker 5 (07:01):
Know, go to who he believes in. I think he's a.
Speaker 6 (07:03):
Little bit more old school on that approach, like not
everything needs to be a matchup, and I think he's
gonna go with the guys that he believes in those
moments that are going to get him out of that
inning and you know, limit the damage. And I think
he kind of saw that last year. Like it wasn't
always just like all right, left the up, like you know,
it's like hey, like hey, we need you to go
put out the fire. This is you're gonna go get
this guy, not just because it's Lefty on Lefty or whatever.
(07:24):
It is, Like Big Dan kind of has a little
bit more old school approach to things, and so you know, guys,
you know, they're gonna stay with you know what we
do well and stuff like that. But at the end
of the day, he's gonna play that hot hand. So yeah, yeah,
I think he kind of saw that towards the end.
You know, he's really good.
Speaker 3 (07:39):
Well, just do us a favorite tailor next time you
see a childhood hero, all right, just be confident, all right,
gather yourself. Okay, just take a breath and you can
go up and you can meet the person with confidence.
Speaker 2 (07:51):
And know that they want to meet you too. All right.
So just is is there anybody out there that you
want to meet? By the way, who's next on the list.
Speaker 6 (08:02):
I still haven't like fully introduced myself to Edgar yet.
He's a little bit more intimidating, even though it was
like the nicest guy ever. Yeah yeah, yeah. Like I said,
sometimes I feel like a fan, you know, like I
don't know, but he's just he's like he just has
that look to him, like he's the nicest guy ever,
(08:23):
but like he just kind of has that look to him,
you know, kind of intimidates me.
Speaker 5 (08:26):
Yeah, I work on in the mirror. I'm like, go
say hi, go say hi. It's okay, you got it.
Speaker 3 (08:31):
Have you met Have you met Dan Wilson up by
the way?
Speaker 5 (08:37):
Oh yeah we Yeah, I actually introduced myself.
Speaker 4 (08:41):
Good.
Speaker 2 (08:43):
Hey, Sauce, tell me about the crew today.
Speaker 4 (08:45):
How many ticket requests for opening Day from all your
friends and family?
Speaker 6 (08:53):
A lot, a lot with my family, but my friends
have kind of like they've kind of backed off a
little bit. No, they'll probably reach out towards the middle
of the season a lot more, but I think they
know what this day means and so like they've they're
kind of respecting me in that way. But no, I
if they I have a hard time saying no. So
luckily they haven't asked yet, So that's good.
Speaker 3 (09:12):
Yeah, yeah, well, you know, if they don't need tickets,
Dick and I could use a pair.
Speaker 2 (09:15):
By the way, So just think I'll call you next time. Yeah,
we got your number. We'll call you.
Speaker 5 (09:20):
Yeah, anytime. You guys down my number now if there.
Speaker 2 (09:22):
Anytime, all right, man, go get him. Good luck, we'll
talk down the road.
Speaker 3 (09:26):
Body appreciate this, dude, I appreciate you guys.
Speaker 2 (09:30):
You got it.
Speaker 3 (09:31):
Taylor Saceto, who admits he still has not really fully
Metgar Mart's fun who's one of the.
Speaker 2 (09:36):
Coaches on his staff. That is freaking amazing.
Speaker 3 (09:39):
You know what gonna do If I ever see him
and Edgar like within proximity of each other, I might
just go Eggar, camer this is this guy's.
Speaker 2 (09:46):
In your bullpen, say hello, We'll introduce yourself.
Speaker 4 (09:49):
I guess it's kind of like a football love, right.
I mean, maybe an offensive lineman hasn't met the linebackers
coach or spend any time talking about it, but yeah,
they're in the same on the same field every day together.
Speaker 2 (10:01):
Here was coaching in September with the team. He's been
here since last year. They just spent him a time
in Arizona because he's nervous man. Alright, we're gonna break
textimonials four nine four five.
Speaker 3 (10:11):
