(01:05):
my close, dear friend, Mike Florio, how are you, man, m.

Speaker 3 (01:11):
I try it again.

Speaker 2 (01:12):
I can try it again if you want.

Speaker 3 (01:14):
Do we have them? I can put them on a hold.

Speaker 2 (01:16):
There is there is there he is. That was probably
our fault. But whatever, even if it's not, we'll just
say I.

Speaker 4 (01:23):
Had the mute buttonam because I had the fart.

Speaker 3 (01:26):
I'm sorry.

Speaker 2 (01:27):
Hey, hey, I get it.

Speaker 3 (01:28):
Man.

Speaker 2 (01:28):
At our age, you never know when that's coming. You
better be ready, dude. Hey, let's talk about Santon.

Speaker 4 (01:33):
Happened twice in the last two days.

Speaker 3 (01:35):
It happened twice in the kitchen. I'm telling you.

Speaker 4 (01:38):
Out of came and I already said, why would you
do that in the kitchens?

Speaker 3 (01:40):
Did you assume I had a choice.

Speaker 2 (01:42):
Well, listen, I'm just just don't trust it, man, That's
all I'm saying. At our age, do not trust it, Mike.
But hey, let's get back to talking football, because I'm
getting grossed out here. The Niners big win last night
on Monday Night Football. How seriously should we take San
Francisco as a legitimate threat in the NFC now you know.

Speaker 3 (02:01):
It dawned on me last Wednesday.

Speaker 4 (02:03):
And I can't remember whether or not we discussed this
during our last visit, because I don't remember what I
did last.

Speaker 3 (02:08):
Night, much less six nights ago. But it dawned on
me Wednesday morning.

Speaker 4 (02:13):
And I looked at the standings, I looked at the schedules,
I looked at the various tiebreakers, and I said, oh, man,
if the Seahawks win this game on Thursday night, the
forty nine Ers control the pass the number one seed.

Speaker 3 (02:26):
I couldn't believe it. And it made me kind.

Speaker 4 (02:28):
Of roots for the Seahawks, beyond the fact that I
picked the Seahawks.

Speaker 3 (02:31):
To win and what a game that was.

Speaker 4 (02:32):
I'm sure you've talked about that a little bit in
the past few days. But yeah, the forty nine Ers
beat the Bears at home, and then it's Dejah who
all over again for Sam Darnald, assuming that the Seahawks
beat the Panthers, because you come down to Levi Stadium,
you go on the road Week eighteen, number one seat
on the line, just like last year for Sam Donald
where he was with the Viking. Yeah, the ultimate shot

(02:54):
at redemption for Sam Donald, He's looming if I'm him,
I want it to happen again. I want to exercise
as the Demons. Thursday night was just the beginning.

Speaker 3 (03:03):
The full shebang.

Speaker 4 (03:04):
Happens week eighteen, Sunday Night Football, Seahawks at forty nine Ers,
where the forty nine Ers can take the one seed
and Sam Darnold Companies snatch it away from them.

Speaker 2 (03:13):
Yeah, and there's a lot of big matchups Mike in
week eighteen. Should Seahawks fans if both teams win this weekend,
should Seahawks fans and Niner fans prepared that that game
is going to be on NBC on Sunday Night to
wrap up the regular season?

Speaker 4 (03:28):
Well, I almost interrupted you when you said there's a
lot of big matchups in week eighteen.

Speaker 3 (03:32):
There isn't.

Speaker 4 (03:33):
Most of the spots are going to be resolved. There's
going to be potentially two divisional playoff play in games
in the NFC South and the AFC North, But that.

Speaker 3 (03:42):
Depending upon what happens this weekend. If the Ravens Blue Saturday.

Speaker 4 (03:45):
Night AFC North is over, and if the Buccaneers lose
to the Dolphins on Sunday.

Speaker 3 (03:50):
At this point, I don't know. I wouldn't feel confident.

Speaker 4 (03:52):
About the Buccaneers beating anyone, and the Panthers beat the Seahawks,
it's over in the NFC South. There may not be
much to determine other than seeding and the NFC West.
And you know, there's already some buzz making the rounds
among the Football Night in America cast members that we
may be going on site for Week eighteen.

Speaker 3 (04:10):
And it occurred to me.

Speaker 4 (04:11):
On Sunday, Dude, Lord, I got to figure out how
I'm going to get to San Francisco from Friday when
my show ends, till Sunday when.

Speaker 3 (04:19):
We're supposed to be there for the start of the coverage.

Speaker 4 (04:22):
So yeah, I would circle that game right now as
a potential last game of the scene, just like forty
nine of Seahawks.

Speaker 3 (04:28):
But was it twenty nineteen? Was that the year? Is
that the year that it all came down to.

Speaker 4 (04:32):
The one seed and the five seed when it was
forty nine or Seahawks could be happening all over again
just in the other stadium.

Speaker 2 (04:37):
Yeah, this would be the second We think it's the
second biggest game the Hawks and Niners have played, behind
the twenty thirteen NFC Championship. If it does come down
to it. But Mike Florial with us and Mike speaking
of former Seahawks man a lot of conversation yesterday and
the radio show about the DK Metcalf situation in Detroit.
What was your take on watching all of that and

(04:58):
the subsequent suspension unfold.

Speaker 4 (05:02):
Well, we were sitting in the viewing room watching the
late afternoon games, and that is when we're in show
prep mode. We lock in and focus on all of
the early games, and then once four o'clock rolls around,
people scatter different things getting ready. You'll watch as much
as you can. I happen to be sitting there and
I look up and I see DK Metcalf holding again,
and it looked like he was holding by the wig.

(05:22):
It turned out he was holding by a T shirt.
And I said, what in the world he's going to
get suspended. And we talked it through and I started
putting out fields and at first the league's position, at
least the people that I talked to there, they said, well,
you know, the president for this kind of thing is
a fine, and I said, have you have you seen it?
And so you know, we reported Sunday next President's a fine, but.

Speaker 3 (05:42):
They'll look at it. Monday, and they'll decide whether or
not it to be a fine or suspension.

Speaker 4 (05:45):
And two games is kind of what I thought it
was going to be from the get go, And two
games is what it is.

Speaker 3 (05:49):
And there's so many different layers and levels here.

Speaker 4 (05:51):
Number One, no matter what vitriol you hear from the stadium,
and I heard from someone with another team who's been
around the league a long time, does a guy in
Seattle in the corner who is the worst one in
the league.

Speaker 3 (06:03):
I don't know who it is.

Speaker 4 (06:04):
I don't know if it's accurate that this person told
me there's a guy in the corner in Seattle, and
maybe it's the guy Geno Smith flipped off.

Speaker 3 (06:09):
Of the preseason game. But when the visiting.

Speaker 4 (06:11):
Team comes in and out of the tunnel, that guy
is the worst verbal, not physical, but verbal assailant.

Speaker 3 (06:18):
In the league. So every stadium has guys like that.
And it's amazing to me.

Speaker 4 (06:22):
If you watch the video that was shot from down
the row. As DK approaches now, one person says, oh, oh, Dk'
let's not let's go over to the stands. And the
reason they had to take a big stand on this
and suspend him the next time it happens, you pull
a guy down, he falls over the railing, breaks his neck,

(06:43):
massive liability.

Speaker 3 (06:44):
And also you broke the guy's neck.

Speaker 4 (06:45):
Well, the next time guy punches up and he turns
it on into Jake Paul's massive lawsuit.

Speaker 3 (06:50):
And you shouldn't have players breaking people's jugs. So they
need to do this.

Speaker 4 (06:53):
If I was a lawyer in the NFL's legal officers,
I'd say you have to take a strong stand here,
because if you don't, it happens again. They're going to say, well,
you didn't make an example out of the guy who
got lucky, and DK got lucky, The Steelers got lucky,
the operators of ford Field got lucky, and the NFL
got lucky that that didn't turn out worse than it did.

Speaker 3 (07:11):
He could have gone very badly for the fan and
then in turn for everyone else.

Speaker 2 (07:16):
I was born Mike in nineteen seventy three. I do
not know a life without the Chiefs playing at Arrowhead Stadium,
because they started playing there, I believe in nineteen seventy two.
They're moving twenty three miles west to an area near
the Kansas Speedway in two thousand and thirty one. Honestly,
how significant. Is this NFL history wise that the Chiefs

(07:37):
are moving out of Arrowhead in the next five six years.

Speaker 4 (07:41):
Well, I think the easiest way to sum this up
is I don't care about NFL history because they don't
care about NFL history, and no one should care. Don't
get sucked in by the NFL film slow motion ball
rotating through the snowflakes, gently walked into the ground and
the booming baritone of John's.

Speaker 3 (07:59):
Has sent it fall. For that crap.

Speaker 4 (08:01):
It's all a business. They say football is family. You
know why they say football is family because football is business,
and it's good for business to say football is family.
It is all a business. How do they end up
in Kansas City in the first place, they tried to
go ahead to head with the Cowboys as of the
Dallas Texans.

Speaker 3 (08:14):
They gave up.

Speaker 4 (08:14):
They lost, It was a knockout, and they moved to
Kansas City where they got a stadium and they had
a home and they had a fan base.

Speaker 3 (08:21):
Well, they got the fan base. They're not losing the
fan base. And the people in Missouri.

Speaker 4 (08:25):
You know, the politicians are going to point fingers at
each other because that's what they do about anything.

Speaker 3 (08:29):
They can here's the reality.

Speaker 4 (08:31):
There was a ballot measure in April of twenty twenty four.
Jackson County, Missouri residents voted overwhelmingly not to extend a
sales tax that would have paid for renovations at the
Arrowhead Stadium and build a new ballpark for the Kansas
City Royals. Overwhelmingly, they said no, Hey, the people have spoken.
Here comes Kansas with a big sack of free money
for the Chiefs. So it's a business decision. The history

(08:52):
doesn't matter. It's about business. They're gonna have a dome,
they're gonna have Super Bowls, they got Final Fours, They're
gonna have all this stuff. They're gonna have events when
it's the debt of.

Speaker 3 (09:00):
Winner inside this dome. That's what it's about.

Speaker 4 (09:03):
So once you accept it and understand it, you mayn't
like it.

Speaker 3 (09:07):
Yeah, but it's not some mystery. It's money. It's money.

Speaker 4 (09:10):
And so back to your original point, how much should
we care about the history? Not a bit because they don't,
and when they try to act like they do, call
bs on them.

Speaker 2 (09:20):
Well, Mike, before you go go back to that game
with the Rams on Thursday night, obviously it was one
of the most ridiculous improbable wins in Seahawks football history.
I know Sean McVeigh has come out and said, look,
you know, I understand why the play was called the
way it was on the Zach Charbonnet two point conversion.

(09:40):
Mcvay's point is you can't advance a fumble under two
minutes on two point plays are on fourth down. But
they said because it was a backwards pass, then the
ball can be advanced, and he wants that rule changed.
I mean, the Seahawks have been a part of plays
before the Jet game. Phil Luckett, I thought the helmet
was a football at the Metal Lands that led to
rep Is it possible that Thursday Night is going to

(10:03):
lead to a change that will eliminate backwards passes being
allowed to be advanced?

Speaker 4 (10:09):
Based on what I've been told by people who are
in the midst of the whole rule making, rule proposing
rule crafting process, it's.

Speaker 3 (10:16):
Not going to happen.

Speaker 4 (10:17):
The league regards that as just the day after disappointment
of a team that lost an important game in a
crazy way.

Speaker 3 (10:24):
Think of it this way.

Speaker 4 (10:25):
The rule against advancing a fumble on fourth down inside
two minutes and on a try that came from the
Holy Roller, the Chargers Raiders game from the late seventies
where the Raiders look to accidentally fumble the ball forward
in a desperate spot to get it into the end
zone and have it recovered.

Speaker 3 (10:41):
So that's when the rule changed.

Speaker 4 (10:42):
On fourth down less than two minutes are on a try,
a fumble can only be advanced by the guy who
fumbled it, and if it's recovered past the spot of
the fumble, it goes back to where the fumble happened,
unless the guy who fumbled it recovers it. There's no
reason for that same protection. When you try a backward pass,
you're not trying to pool something by saying oop up, Oh,

(11:02):
there goes the ball up up, So I fumbled it,
silly me, There's no reason for it. A back passes
deliberately an effort to try to advance the ball by
throwing it backward. So if something crazy happens, that's part
of the fun of the game. It bounces off to
your versus helmet cam curl has a chance to intercept it.
The Rams didn't pick it up. Zach Sharbonay did, even
though he didn't realize the ball was live, and that's

(11:23):
the big point that comes out of this, and plenty
of teams already were harping on this.

Speaker 3 (11:28):
I believe they've been harping on it even more.

Speaker 4 (11:31):
If there's a ball on the field after the whistle blows,
you pick.

Speaker 2 (11:34):
It up a hundred percent one hundred percent. And if
Zach Sharboney, he would have walked over and could have
kicked that thing in frustration, and nobody would have batted
a friggin' eye. Man, It's unbelievable how it all worked out.
That may have given the Seahawks the number one seed.
That decision is to lean over, pick up the ball
in the end zone and give it to the official. Hey, Mike, listen,
love having you on every week. I respect the hell

(11:56):
out of you and the work you guys do a
pro football talk dot com. I love you, we'd love
having you on and cannot imagine Wednesdays typically, But today's
Tuesday without you on the radio show. So best to
your family, have a great holiday and we'll talk.

Speaker 4 (12:10):
Hey, don't cut me off.

Speaker 3 (12:11):
I want to say.

Speaker 4 (12:14):
For all the grief I give you, for all the
times I've called you a butthole, for all the times
I've asked to disrespect you. You are a good friend.
I greatly enjoy the audience in Seattle. I hear from
the folks who listen to the program. It means a
lot to me. And remind me to get back to
you about the triple rate.

Speaker 2 (12:31):
We're done, done, all right, butthole, Hey have a great Christmas.
We'll talk soon. Man, Mike Florio with us on the
radio show. We've got to break. We got to talk
more about this situation bringing with the Seahawks, Man, because
we are I'm telling you, guys, we are a week
and a half away from one of the biggest regular
season games the Hawks have ever played ever and maybe

(12:51):
a game that could earn John Schneider the Executive of
the Year, maybe a game that could earn Mike McDonald
the coach of the year. Who knows, Man, it is
incredible how much on the line in the next week
and a half for both these teams. We're gonna break
a lot more to get to on a busy Tuesday
right here on ninety three three KJRFL
