PFT Live, the king of all NFL Media, undisputed heavyweight

(00:45):
Champion of the NFL Press Corps. It's our friend from
Pro Footballtalkprofootball Talk dot com, Mike Florio. Michael, how are
you bell?

Speaker 3 (00:54):
Yeah, affine gentlemen, does that title come with any sort
of a belt?

Speaker 2 (00:58):
It should? It should? How about that instead of a raise,
we'll get you a belt how's that sound.

Speaker 3 (01:03):
Well, it depends on what the belt costs, because then
I could sell it on eBay. That's true.

Speaker 2 (01:06):
It'll be like a John Money John Schneider when the
Hawks won in twenty thirteen. I remember that was in
the locker room wearing a WWE belt. We'll get you
one of those bad boys. But hey, let's start off.
There's this rumor all over the web, but I don't
know if there's any teeth to it or not. Dak
Prescott and the Browns, what's going on there?

Speaker 3 (01:25):
I haven't seen anything about Dak Prescott and the Browns.
The cap charge for trading Dak Prescott before June one
would be absolutely crippling for the Dallas Cowboys. So I
don't know where it came from. This is the first
time hearing of it. I'll look into it. I would
be stunned if the Cowboys and the Browns would do
this because of the financial ramifications of making the deal happen.

(01:46):
But it would fit with the fact that Jerry Jones,
when he was scouting Combine last month, didn't do his
usual meeting with reporters on his butts. He was too busy.
He's never too busy. To talk about it team, and
it created all sorts of speculation about potential trade scenarios.
But I just don't see it. I don't see it.
What would they be getting in return? How would they

(02:09):
manage to cap hit? Are they getting shot or Sanders
and the number two overall pick. I haven't seen it, though,
so I don't know who's putting it out there. And
you have to be careful nowadays because people put stuff
out there that may not be true.

Speaker 2 (02:20):
That's why I asked. It's on SI's website, so it
must be true, by the way, right, yeah, oh Si?

Speaker 3 (02:25):
Yeah, really yeah, s I continues to be a bastion
of journalistic integrity and not clickbait or whatever other crap
they put up there now.

Speaker 4 (02:35):
Yes, Mike, I'm sorry.

Speaker 3 (02:38):
It's not inaccurate, though. It's a shame. It's somebody who
waited every Thursday for the mailman to come, yeah, to
pop open the Sports Illugrated and read it. What it
was and what it meant to people growing up in
the seventies. It was the sports Bible, and it's just
it's just a name now at this point. It's nothing
anywhere close to what it was back then. And if

(02:58):
somebody gets upset about I'm sorry, it's the truth.

Speaker 4 (03:01):
Well, sports illustrated kind of like Russell Wilson, nothing near
what he used to be. And if you'd have told
me seven years ago that Russell will be playing for
his fourth team in four years, there is zero percent
chance I would believe that is this is a good
fit in New York.

Speaker 3 (03:18):
And you know, is it fitting that this all happened
the same day that subway exits and Jersey Mike centers
as the new sub provider because there goes the danger,
which and I am feeling dangerous right now. I think
it's I think it's ridiculous to trumpet this move because

(03:38):
once upon a time he won a super Bowl in
the stadium where he's now going to be playing. I mean,
that was coincidental, and it's ancient history. Is that it
wasn't him. Wasn't he wasn't Well? Yeah, people, yeah, I
mean New York super Bowl that like stadium. Wow, here's
the here's the reality. The Steelers did not want him
back the Steelers before free agency, the preference is to

(04:01):
bring back Justin Fields or Russell Wilson. The moment that
Justin Field signed with the Jets, then they should have
signed Russell Wilson, and they didn't. They were never going
to bring back Russell Wilson. This contract pays out ten
foury five million and everything else is pay as you
go earn it weekend in the week out. He finally
became a free agent, and the contract that he got
is the worst veterans starting quarterback contract in the NFL

(04:24):
right now. So that's where we are, and I believe
the Steelers got to the point where they just decided
they weren't interested because of his physical abilities. Right now,
it's moonball left in moonball right, and he throws a
nice moon ball. But you gotta have more than that
to be a successful NFL quarterback. And you look down stretch.
Last year they lost five games in a row, including
the postseason loss in Baltimore, and the average margin of

(04:46):
victory in those five games was thirteen point two points.
The wheels didn't just come off, they flew off, and
they smacked Steelers fans right in a face. So the
Steelers weren't interested. The Giants were. I'm surprised, but the
Giants were desperate. And now they have Jameis Winston and
Russell Wilson and the winner gets the water picked and

(05:07):
the loser stands on the bench.

Speaker 2 (05:08):
Well, Mike Flora's with us, is is the Aaron Rodgers
to Pittsburgh thing a real possibility? And if it is,
why is Mike Tomlin allowing Aaron Rodgers to play this
stupid game?

Speaker 3 (05:21):
I was told over the weekend it's a safe bet
that Rogers ends up with the Pittsburgh Steelers, and that
was before the Giants filled their ultimate need adding Russell Wilson.
It's just the Steelers and the Vikings at this point,
and the Vikings aren't going to do anything in less
than until they conclude that JJ McCarthy isn't the answer
head quarterback. That would be after the offseason program. It's
then they may even run it into training camp. When

(05:43):
Brett Favre joined the Vikings in two thousand and nine,
it happened on August the eighteenth, So there's still a
lot of time here. And Steelers fans are a little
bit kissy because number one, some of them don't think
that Rogers is very good. I think he's still better
than anything they've had post Roethlisberger. But number two, the
idea that he's hesitating the idea that he's not running
through the door. The door's open to be a Pittsburgh

(06:05):
Steeler and he's not screaming through it. And those comments
that Cam Hayward made last week, either you want to
be a Steeler or you're dump That resonates with a
lot of Steelers fans because they view their team as
a team that you aspire to play for and when
they want you, you go. And the fact that he's hesitating,
I think is alienating some Steelers fans. Now, if he
shows up and he wins, they'll forget about it quickly.

(06:26):
But I just think it's a weird dynamic right now.
And I've had this theory and it was planted in
my mind by a reader, and I should have thought
of it on my own. Pat McAfee's doing an event
in Pittsburgh on April the ninth, and Rogers, if you
haven't heard, is on mcafee' show every Tuesday during football seasons.
Rogers could show up there and make a WWE style
entrance and they could try to work the crowd to

(06:46):
be supportive. And Aaron Rodgers is now a Pittsburgh Steeler,
that's still a couple of weeks away, but with each
passing day it makes more and more sense. Is just
let it play out until April nine and try to
have a positive entry that way, but still plenty of
on board, and it'll be interesting to see what the reaction
to Rodgers would be if he would show up at
that thing on April ninth.

Speaker 4 (07:05):
What was that I did not vote in that poll
that you put on Twitter because I was not a
Steeler fan and you specifically asked only Steeler fans, So.

Speaker 3 (07:14):
What was the please? I said, please too, You did
Stalelers fans and only Steelers fans. Do you want Aaron Rodgers?
And I put yes first. You know, one of the
strips of a pushbowl is to put the preferred option first.
They can't accuse me of trying to rig this thing.
It was not rigged. We did stop the count after
twenty four hours. Yes was forty four and change and

(07:35):
no was fifty five and change. The Steelers fans who replied,
if they are all Steelers fans and if we can
trust that that highly specific and scientific poll platform on Twitter,
they don't want Aaron Rodgers and he doesn't surprise me.
Their mind will change if he comes and plays well
and they win games. In twenty ten, they were done

(07:56):
with Ben Roethlisberger after he got into that legal scrape
in Georgia and got suspended by the NFL. They were
all over him, They hated and they were talking about
trading him. They came together that year after he was
suspended four games. He went nine to three over the
final twelve. They got to the Super Bowl and everything
was forgotten. So if Rogers wins, all of this will
just be a footnote that gets forgotten as soon as

(08:19):
the Steelers get to the playoffs and try to win
a postseason game for the first time since January twenty seventeen.

Speaker 2 (08:24):
Patriots just gave Stefon Diggs seventy million twenty six million guaranteed.
Been out since Week eight with the ACL. How much
does he have left? He's thirty one years old.

Speaker 3 (08:33):
Man, Well, the contract always gives you an idea of
what a team really thinks to the guy. But anytime
I see a deal get pushed by the insiders as
sixty nine million, and then somebody says up to sixty
nine million, up to is the key because that's not
the base deal, and you've got to do a lot
to get that maximum number, which would get you to
a twenty three million dollar per year average, which you

(08:54):
know is top twenty right now, as receivers go in
the NFL, I can't way to dig into those details
because that's really the only way to get to the truth.
In today's NFL. The insiders spout off whatever the agents
tell them. Otherwise they don't get the scoops and they
don't get their cookies from their employers. So the truth
has to come later. And when we get the contract,

(09:14):
and I guarantee you we will, we'll have a real
picture of what the Patriots expect from digs thirty coming
off of a torn acl I don't know that I'd
make a massive financial commitment, but they were ready to
throw a bunch of money at Chris Godwin, who is
coming off of a serious ankle injury. So they're desperate
to get pass catchers for Drake May and there aren't
a lot of options out there right now.

Speaker 4 (09:35):
Well, speaking of not a lot of options, that's what
the offensive line has looked like in free agency, and
half of Seahawk fans are angry that John Schneider didn't
pick up anybody in the interior of the offensive line
and free agency of notes, and the other half are like,
well who was there to actually get so what side
of that defence are you on?

Speaker 3 (09:53):
Yeah, it's a combination of who's available, what do they want,
and who else is percolating on the row that you
don't know about that could maybe slide in who's been
quietly developed first year of the Mike McDonald's system. And
I don't know the answer to this question, but that's
one of those things where you do the deep dive
on the depth chart. Guys step up, they get an opportunity,

(10:13):
and then all of a sudden they end up being
good players. But obviously offensive line has been a chronic
problem for those Seahawks, and a lot of teams have
offensive line issues. Look, if you've got a great offensive line,
you know what you are. You're a super Bowl champion.
That's the key. Five guys and a swing tackle and
maybe an extra interior offensive lineman who can hold down
the fort the full season. You get lucky and everybody
stays healthy, and your road grade and your pass block

(10:36):
you do both pass blocking run blocking. It make su
your offense go. And every team would love to have it,
not many have it. And the teams that have it
tend to be the best teams in the NFL, and
the teams that are among the best and don't have it,
that's because they've got Patrick Mahomes, all.

Speaker 2 (10:48):
Right, before you go, Mike, Mike Florio with US Pro
Football dot dot com, can we SHARPI in cam Ward
number one to Tennessee right now?

Speaker 3 (10:57):
I think we can. I think it's odd that they're
pushishing to ESPN and Adam Schefter had this yesterday that
they really like him and it's really solidified and we
want even more now for the first overall pick than
we would have wanted before his Pro day work out.
I mean, you know why the guy or you don't.
It goes back to the Aaron Rodgers and Pittsburgh thing
the Bengals in twenty twenty, when the Dolphins were desperate

(11:19):
to move up and get Joe Burrow, they just kept
hanging up the phone. They didn't care what the Dolphins
or anyone else would offer. They wanted Joe Burrow and
they were taking the chance that Burrow was going to
pan out. And I think that's why you leave the
door crack just in case, because maybe somebody makes you
an offer. You can't refuse, and ultimately, we don't know
what cam Ward's going to be in the NFL. If
you get proven talent in exchange, absolutely think about it.

(11:39):
But pushing it the way they did it just kind
of creates a subtle impression that they're trying a little
too hard to beat the bushes to get a great offer,
which makes you wonder do they really feel the way
that they say they're feeling. We know what's going on
this time of year. Everybody is concealing their true intentions.
Everybody is up to something. It's a game of chess
and check and chicken all thrown together into one. So

(12:03):
we'll find out. But I think right now, the fact
that the Titans haven't added any of these bigger name
veteran quarterbacks. They signed Tim Boyle today, but the fact
that they haven't gone out there to beef up the
depth chart tells you that they fully intend to emerge
from this process with a quarterback. Maybe they'll trade for
Dak Prescott. Let's let's bring it all full circle. Yeah,
let's just keep that on SI dot com.

Speaker 2 (12:24):
Gonna say, just keep an eye on SI's website for
that breaking information. Uh, Mike you're the man.

Speaker 3 (12:28):
Great stuff scattered. There was some shadow let me say this,
I know you got to go, but that never stopped
me before. There was some shatter at the scouting compound
about the Cowboys at least making the call of the Titans.
But you know, calls like that get made all the time.
They get made all the time. Let's not make it
something more than it is. But if you're thinking about
moving Dak Prescott, and you're thinking about a top five
draft pick, why not call the team at the top

(12:50):
of the stack and see if you can get the
rights to scam Ward. Mike, call doub Buttholes, you're the man.

Speaker 2 (12:54):
We'll talk in a week. See a pal.

Speaker 3 (12:57):
Mike florial See about Hole doub Buttholes.

Speaker 2 (13:00):
We are being accused of having a nasty attitude towards
Russell Wilson by the text line. Get to that next
