round pick. What was your reaction, coach when you heard
the news.

Right now? It's Sam Howell, but right now it's also

why do you think they did this?

I mean it was this a salary cap driven move?
Was this say, hey, we don't see a guy with
the talent kind of driven move? I mean it's it's hard,
Mike to get yourself into obviously John Schneider's head. But
give us your thoughts on why you think John did this?

Well, it asked, I would think it has to be
a salary cap type move because Gino, I think, and
you know, I've spoken on his behalf with you guys
a number of times. I think, you know, he can
win games for you, he can play for you. He's
proven that he has, you know, been a little reckless

at times with interceptions and stuff like that.

But I always thought you could fix that. I always
thought you. I believe you could.

Fix that, you know. And then the last thing, though, Dave,
I think the question I first asked you who's gonna play?
Who's gonna be the quarterback? You know you're gonna draft one, okay?
Is that gonna make you a playoff caliber team his
first year or rookie year?

You know who you gonna And then where you're gonna draft.
I mean, you're picking eighteen. I don't know. It's just
I'm very very surprised.

Well, Mike, there is a there is a starting caliber,
uh maybe not star caliber, very good quarterback out there
for free agency, and you now have the money to
sign them. And there are at least reports out of
there that the Seahawks are interested in Sam Darnold.
Speaker 2 (01:59):
What do you think of Sam Donald's a quarterback?
Speaker 3 (02:01):
I like Sam Donald? I do, I do if, but
then it's not. Then, you know, Dick, you've talked about
it before. As far as Geno's concerned, if it's Sam Donald,
you're still gonna then it's not a salary cap issue.
I don't believe. You know, you're gonna have to pop
a lot of money into that one. But I like
Sam Donald, I do. I thought you were gonna say

Well, he's out there too, right, I mean, there's been
no links to Aaron Rodgers, but he's out there too.

Yeah, I I you know what. It's just, you know,
it's like in free agency. It seemed like in free
agency when they first started it, Okay, teams are going
doing all these things and that guy, that guy over
there that's playing for that team is more exciting and

most of the time that's not the way it is.

Would you be looking for right now? Honestly, if you're
John Schneider and you think of a guy like a
Sam Darnold who's twenty seven years old, are you looking

for your long term franchise quarterback answer? Or are you
looking for a veteran quarterback to just kind of fill
the gap for a couple of years at a lower
cap number than Geno Smith was set to make and
still go after a young guy in the draft to
groom is your future?

No, I don't think.

I think then there's no point to my way of
thinking of training Gino Smith if you're going to do that,
because that's that's kind of what you have right now.
My thinking was that, you know, if look look for
the next guy, because you have your quarterback Yere for
the next couple of years. Granted, you know the number
might be might be bigger than you want, but you

have that guy.

Now go get the young guy.

I don't have to do it anymore, but it doesn't
make much sense to me. If you're looking, if you
go get a guy for a couple of years, you
already have that guy. Don't do that, you know, if
you're if you're going to sign somebody, sign sign somebody
that you think is going to be your guy for
the next eight to ten years.

Mike, real quick, do you think DK is more or
less likely to move from Seattle now that this move
has been made.
Speaker 3 (04:45):
I'm not sure that. Well, they were, they were close,
I'm sure, but I'm not sure DK's his decision is
not going to be based on anything else. The idea
of going to a a you know, I heard it.
I read something about going to a team that's gonna
give him a chance to go to the super Bowl

or you know, all that kind of stuff. That's all smoke.
