I don't even know where to start from Last week
USC taking down LSU.

Was that the biggest win of Lincoln Riley's career in
LA or what?
Speaker 4 (01:17):
Well, it was a fabulous job by everybody associated with
USC on the defensive side of the ball. And add
Miller Moss to guys who can flat process as a quarterback.
You know this is a guy when you listen to
the stories about him getting chances at USC. And I
guess there was a situation where Lincoln had this new

concept that he wanted to try, and everybody liked the concept,
but he forbade any of the quarterbacks to use it
in spring ball to check to it because he wanted
to have it for the next year, and he knew
teams would be scouting it. And Moss saw the opportunity
and checked to it and threw a touchdown path and
he comes over and Lincoln's mad at him. He says,

shooters got to shoot coach. When you hear those kinds
of stories, when you hear those kind of stories, you're going,
this guy's got a little something to him, and he
showed it the other night, especially in that final drive.
So the Trojans are They're fun to watch, at least
out of the gate.

Yeah.

Well, the other story that I kind of had my
eye on from last week before we get to some
of the kind of West Coast big ten Pac two stuff,
is that has has Dabo just lost it? I mean honestly,
I mean he comes out of the gates and just
gets annihilated by by Kirby Smart, like just smashed to
pieces by Georgia. And this has been going on now
for far too long. Down there, people were talking about

him not embracing an il on the transfer portal, blah
blah blah. Does Dabo need to get with the times
or is Clemson in trouble with him?
Speaker 4 (02:44):
See? I think Dabo's trying to be apparent to his team.
I think he you know, when he goes and sits
in a living room and tells mom and Dad, I'm
gonna bring your young guy onto my campus and We're
going to teach him just like you've taught him to date.
He takes that seriously, and that's why he doesn't want
to cut anybody loose. He wants them to have their chance.

But he was on a heater when he had Deshaun
Watson and Trevor Lawrence, said Jacksonville right, Trevor Lawrence and
obviously dj uey Unglila ended up leaving because he got
beat out. And now Kate klub Nick isn't quite what
those other guys were that hurts him. That same is

true at the wide receiver position. So if he's going
to hang onto this mentality that they're mine and I'm
going to coach them through it, then he's going to
take some lumps like he did. And there are those
who are gonna, you know, lot him for it. And
there's going to be some Clemson fans like Tyler and
Spartanburg that are going to say, man, keep up with
the times and we'll just have to wait and see
how it bears itself out.

Well, you mentioned dju Rick Rick new Heiser with us
Curtisy attack with time, and obviously we saw him play
at Oregon State.
Speaker 3 (03:53):
So I'm playing person last year in the rain.
Speaker 2 (03:55):
Maybe it was unfair to judge him in that game
because the weather was so awful, but I just remember
leaving that game thing and.
Speaker 3 (04:00):
This guy can't throw, he's not a passer.
Speaker 2 (04:03):
I mean, what did they see on tape on him
that made them go out and spend as much money
as they did to get him.
Speaker 4 (04:11):
Well, he's a physical specimen and he can run and
he can throw, so you look at him and say
he's got it all. But what he doesn't have is
all the throws. You know, great pictures if they're going
to be starters, have to have, you know, a fastball,
they've got to have something breaking, and they have something
off speed. He doesn't have all three of those pictures,
(04:32):
which makes him a relief pitcher. So he's going to
have his day in the sun when he goes out
there and throws a strike and we've seen plenty of
those in his career, but when he has to drop
one in over the top of somebody, yeah, and he
just doesn't have that throw. And those throws are necessary
if you're going to be the complete quarterback, and that's
why he finds times when he struggles.

I want to think Rick that Michigan's going to take
a step back this year. You know, look, it wasn't
super duper impressed with them against Fresno, but then again,
how good is Fresno.
Speaker 3 (05:02):
We have no idea.
Speaker 2 (05:03):
We'll find out, Morgan sark this Saturday when they played Texas.
But what's your kind of gut fill on Michigan after
Week one.
Speaker 4 (05:11):
Well, Davis Warren got his first start. This is a
great story. You walk on kid that had leukemia in
high school and you know now is the starting quarterback
for Michigan. You got a root for a kid like that,
and it was a kind of start you kind of
predict for somebody who hasn't played much. He's fifteen of
twenty five and one hundred and forty yards passing, and

you want more. You want JJ McCarthy to still be there,
but he's not. So it's going to be slow, and
the question is can they up the ante in time
as Texas gets here? Who Quinn? You were through for
three point fifty five and they've got all kinds of speed.
And maybe more impressive for Texas was how they played
defense against a pretty good Colorado State offense with a

quarterback and a big time receiver returning, held them to
less than two hundred yards of offense. So this to
me is one sided on its face. But here's the deal.
There's great DNA at Michigan. They they're going to play
their tails off. The crowd will be into it, it'll
be a great scene, and so this will get to
the fourth quarter, and I feel like it's going to

be much like we saw Texas in Tuscaloosa last year
where they finally pull away at the end.

Well, the other guy too, Quinn Yours.
Speaker 2 (06:21):
I mean, look again, saw him play against the Huskies
and the Sugar Bowl a year ago.
Speaker 3 (06:25):
I mean, I think he's good. I don't think he's elite.

I don't think he's a Heisman Trophy contender right now
for me, I mean, am I am I under selling
Quinn Yours?
Speaker 3 (06:34):
Or is he better than I think?

I think he's better than you think. I think because
of the way his career began. He reclassified out of
high school to go to Ohio State. You know, so
you immediately think he's the he's him right as the
kids say, now he's him, and then he gets the
big money to go to Texas. So again, this guy

must be just off the charts. But most kids, he
takes a while to develop. But I am seeing some maturity.
And what I'm also seeing is Sark having been kind
of tutored by Nick Saban as Kirby Smart was tutored
by Nick Saban. Say Smart went to Georgia and created Alabama.
It looks to me, like Sark's creating Alabama in Austin.

Yeah yeah, well, Rick new Heisel's with us Jet Fish
is trying to create something in Seattle. They got Eastern
Michigan in town this Saturday with Chris Creighton, the former
Roosevelt A law he played quarterback at Roosevelt by the way,
just down the street, and Dave Hoffman's nephew is playing
football for Eastern Michigan.

Should I be concerned at all about the Eagles this weekend?
They got a good program. Man. They take on these
Power five teams and they usually do pretty well.

You know, I think Washington will have their way this weekend.
But do not ever count out Chris Creighton. If you
look at his resume, he has coached his tail off
at some smaller places without much in the way of resources.
And Eastern Michigan it wasn't so long ago they were
talking about canceling football and he went in there and

they've been to a bunch of bowl games. So he
gets the most out of his guys. But I think
Washington's got too much. That was a great beginning for
the dogs.

Okay, how about Texas Tech and Wazoo and the reason
why I'm bringing this up, Rick, is because the Apple
Cup is in nine days from now. I don't know
what bizarro world we're living in talking about the Apple
Cup being in nine days, but it's in nine days,
and I think wazoo Man Texas Tech. Texas Tech gave
up a bunch of yards and points to appleing Christian
last weekend. Give me a take on the matchup in

Pullman before the Apple Cup next Saturday.

Well, I know where Mike Leach will be watching from
his from his guybox. He'll be He'll be watching this one,
having coached at both these places and having great memories
at both of them. This is this is a fun game.
Joey Maguire, the head coach at Texas Tech, is luckier
than heck that they got out of there, out of

that game with Abilene Christian with a victory. Abilene was
going for two and ended up missing it. They get
sacked in the last play of the game, which cost
them their chance to win the game. But to me,
Washington State's got a heck of a chance, and both
Washington State and Oregon State got out of the box
bath trying to prove that they still belong in power

right because that's what his buyout is. But that's a
poor performance. It was kind of non competitive. Now he
does get a backup quarterback to get a chance to
play this week, one of their star recruits, which might

be one of those things that he could really use.
We'll wait and see if that turns out to be
a good thing for him. DJ Lagway, we'll get a
chance to start this week and maybe show something and
flash something so that people look forward to the future.
But with the schedule that they have, yeah, it's going
to be hard to get to six wins. And if
he's underneath that missus a Bowl game again. Then they're

going to be talking and Scott Strickland, the ad there
is going to be under a lot of pressure to
find another guy and to find a way to finance
the whole thing, which just boggles the mind.

in the world for Deon Sanders to ban a Ryder,
talk all kinds of mess and then go out and
lose to North Dakota State.

What'd you make of what you saw from Colorado? Man?
Their defense got pushed around a bit.

Colorado doesn't look much different from last year other than
they've got their receivers all healthy right now. You know,
Travis Hunter is obviously a bona fide player. Jimmy Horn
Junior is a really good player. They got this kid
from Florida Atlantic, Lejonte Wester, who's also a good player.
You could take the quarterback and those three and say

you've got your USA Olympic team seven on seven guys
for twenty twenty eight, and we'd win. We'd win a
gold medal. But that's not the game. And there's going
to be no more more fervent fan base than those
in Nebraska who are dying to be back. In a
conversation when we're talking about big time programs. They've been

away from the bowl seat since twenty sixteen. That's third
longest in the FBS, tied with New Mexico. That's Nebraska
we're talking about. And they get a home game against
