Speaker 1 (00:00):
You're listening to your one and only home for the
Super Bowl.

Speaker 2 (00:03):
Super Bowl Living.

Speaker 1 (00:05):
Make us your number one pre set in your car
and on the new iHeartRadio app. Now back to Sufdi
and Dick. Fun to you, Mandy, Emeral Queen Casino on
Sports Radio Nutty three point three Super.

Speaker 3 (00:15):
Bowl JJ r f M all right back here on
a Monday afternoon from the Emeral Queen Casino Sportsbook. Don't
forget to join us in the event center for the
Super Bowl on Sunday. Doors open one thirty giving away
four grand in cash. Eight lucky winners will get five
hundred bucks on Sunday at the Emerald Queen. So we'll
swing on by. But they're just bitching and moaning, screaming

(00:37):
and yelling and ranting and raving about the Mariners and
Jerry Depoto. It's becoming a tradition here on the radio
show that starts usually about this time. By the way,
I wonder if they're angrier though in Dallas about the
Luca trade. R J Chappie with US co host of
Sean and RJ every morning on one oh five. Three
of the fans joins us. Now, RJ, why did the

(00:58):
Mavericks trade, Luca, give your thoughts on why that deal
came down Saturday.

Speaker 4 (01:04):
They traded him for the same reason the Cowboys hired
Brian Schottenheimer to be their head coach.

Speaker 2 (01:09):
And that reason is I have no idea, No, I
have not Look, man, it's this is the this is
the crazy thing.

Speaker 4 (01:18):
So Luca, let's say there are a hundred people in
the Mavericks organization, all right, ninety nine of them loved Luca.

Speaker 2 (01:28):
The one guy that didn't was the GM.

Speaker 4 (01:31):
Wow, that that's that's the reality, and and that this
is obviously there's there's there's still a lot of movie
parts this, there's still a lot of speculation, but everything
that you have, if you could read between the lines,
you go back and you and you listen to audio
clips and you watch videos, it's obvious that Nico Harris
and the GM just wasn't like a huge fan. You know,

(01:55):
he he he liked him at first, you know, he
was giving him a chance. It was his guy, you know,
one of his guys. But at the end of the day,
he's like, I we're not.

Speaker 2 (02:03):
Getting through to him.

Speaker 4 (02:05):
You know, Luca does not have He's not Lebron James
in the gym he's not the you know, he's never
gonna win a swimsuit contest. That said, it still works
because he plays well no matter what his weight is,
and he was pushing two seventy. He was pushing to
seventy this year. So it's working. It worked, but it
wasn't enough.

Speaker 2 (02:25):
For the Mavericks. They won.

Speaker 5 (02:26):
Well, do you r J, do you think that it
works because he's twenty five and the Mavericks are looking
at signing him through his thirtieth birthday. If they signed them,
the super maxis is Luka Doncic a shell of himself
at twenty nine thirty because of how he takes care
of his body.

Speaker 4 (02:44):
Well at twenty nine thirty, maybe, but right he's twenty
five years old.

Speaker 2 (02:48):
You signed a five year deal. I mean, that's the
end of the deal.

Speaker 4 (02:51):
Like I would have thought if they were gonna you
could get away with doing what he does at twenty
five years old.

Speaker 2 (02:56):
You can get away with a twenty seven at twenty.

Speaker 4 (02:58):
At thirty, maybe not, but you're still getting X amount
of years out of him, and you don't know what
he's gonna be like at thirty.

Speaker 2 (03:07):
Dirt Dvinsky was not a super.

Speaker 4 (03:10):
Fit guy in his early years, he was a string bean,
but he didn't care about nutrition, didn't take care of himself.

Speaker 2 (03:17):
And then he got older and he's like, I gotta
start taking care of myself. And in some of his.

Speaker 4 (03:20):
Best years were after he was twenty eight years old.
So I don't know that you could sit here and
say Luca's gonna beat whoever he is at twenty five,
is who he is at thirty five.

Speaker 2 (03:30):
I mean we're all different at thirty five or thirty either.

Speaker 3 (03:34):
Well, you just said the GM is the one guy
that doesn't like him, right.

Speaker 2 (03:37):
R J.

Speaker 3 (03:38):
Chappie again from Dallas with us on the air talking
about the Luca Dio that came down Saturday, going to
La Anthony Davis others going back to Dallas. Is he
potentially right in having that opinion though? I mean, maybe
he just thinks he's too fat, Maybe he doesn't want
to give him three fifty. Maybe there's some crazy Slovenian
gangster that's hanging around the arena after games and he
scares the hell out of him. I mean, is he

(04:00):
potentially right in thinking that he doesn't like him and
he needs to get rid of him.

Speaker 5 (04:06):
Uh?

Speaker 4 (04:06):
Yeah, I mean there's there's absolute fairness in that. There's
absolute fairness.

Speaker 2 (04:10):
I think.

Speaker 4 (04:11):
I think the problem MAVs fans have. MAVs fans like
they didn't want him to trade Luca at all. I mean,
he's a he's ours, right, he's our player. But are
a lot of the issue, and my issue too, is
the return that you got, Like you didn't even shop
him around. If you want her to shop around, if
you want her to trade him, fine, go ahead trade him,

(04:32):
but call Milwaukee and say, hey, you want to do
a Yanni swap like like kind of right, you know,
do something like that, cause you're talking about a player
in the top I mean he's in the top four
or five in the league, like right, every team would
say yes that they want him, and every team would
give up their best player for him, and the Mavericks
just didn't get the proper return. I think that's the anger.

(04:52):
The anger isn't necessarily with trading him. I mean, that's
bad enough, But if you're gonna do it, I mean,
you better set yourself up for the future big time.

Speaker 5 (05:01):
So you got Windoors saying that Luca would have signed
the Super mac Max in Dallas, and you got a
new York Times article that says, quote, Apparently the MAVs
didn't think Doncic would stay in twenty twenty six.

Speaker 2 (05:11):
So who do you believe?

Speaker 5 (05:15):
Uh?

Speaker 2 (05:15):
I believe Windhorse on this one.

Speaker 4 (05:16):
I mean, he's he's he's embedded in the NBA, He's
got tons of connections.

Speaker 2 (05:21):
Luca was gonna sign here. I don't, I don't. We
have not heard of peep about him wanting to leave. Now.

Speaker 4 (05:28):
You know that things could change, you know, if they
have a first round exit, I mean, everything can change,
but we haven't heard anything that the Mavericks have done
everything also during this time to kind of make Luca,
you know, to kind of change the narrative random. But
they got rid of all the old trainers they got
they brought their own guys in, and Luca responded with like, Okay,
I'm just gonna ring my own guy in there.

Speaker 2 (05:46):
So he has his own trainer, who obviously doesn't train
him very well.

Speaker 5 (05:50):
Uh.

Speaker 4 (05:50):
But it's yeah, I thought for sure he was gonna
say I had none of us thought for a second
that he was gonna be gone.

Speaker 2 (05:56):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (05:57):
Well, r J Chappie again from Dallas, joining us on
the radio show one to five Free the fan morning
show host doing his radio show from New Orleans for
the Super Bowl on Radio Row. And I'm sure you'll
talk a lot about the new coach of the Cowboys
this week, So tell us from from Dallas sports fans,
and we know the Cowboys are number one with a
bullet over everything down there are Dallas sports fans in

(06:20):
general terms more fired up and pissed off about Brian
Schottenheimer getting the head coaching job or Luca getting traded.

Speaker 4 (06:27):
Oh, Jerry Jones should buy like he should like buy
Nico Harrison the MAVs GM like a giant bottle.

Speaker 2 (06:33):
Of Camus or whatever.

Speaker 4 (06:34):
Why you want, because it's his best friend right now,
because all the heats off, Jerry. You know, Cowboy fans,
half the Cowboy fan base wanted anybody button McCarthy. In
the other half was like, you know, Mike's doing a
good job. Let's let's keep Mike around. Or even if
you didn't want to have Mike around anymore, you wanted
to upgrade. You know, the Cowboys, I don't think upgrade

(06:55):
to their head coaching's position. They just they just took
the alternative and and that that bothered a lot of people.
You know, after his press conference that he had, which
by the way, Jerry did a great job of overshadowing
him and making it a complete disaster. But Schottenheimer was
I mean, he was something like okay, I could see
how somebody would interview him and like his message. He

(07:17):
just has never been a very good coordinator, and you
hope that he's a better head coach and coordinator. The
problem is he wants to call the plays and you know,
I call him, you know, R two p two run.

Speaker 2 (07:27):
Run past punt, That's what I call Stneimer And that's
what he wants, what he's he seemingly was.

Speaker 4 (07:32):
But maybe he's a better leader then than he is
an offensive coordinator because he never he's never been a
head coach that we really wanted him in about ten
years fifteen years as a head coach.

Speaker 5 (07:43):
Well, that was a confusion to me. If you were
gonna just hire from within, why don't you just keep
the guy that's at least, you know, led you to
nine ten ish wins most seasons when you're healthy and
has a Super Bowl ring.

Speaker 2 (07:55):
Why did you just keep McCarthy? That was my thought.
You know, I would have kept Mike.

Speaker 4 (08:00):
You know, there was rumors that there's two rumors that
are Pavilion arounning. One is that the Cowboys offered three
years and Mike wan and five and Michael was like,
I'm not doing this again in two years. And then
the other one is that they were gonna offer by
a contract but they wanted Jason Witten to be the
head coach in waiting, and Mike was like, I'm not
doing that either, and that he got up and left,

(08:21):
and the Cowboys are gonna spin it like you know, no,
they decided that they wanted them out.

Speaker 2 (08:25):
I mean, you never know who to believe in these situations.

Speaker 4 (08:27):
But I would have thought if you had gone a
week and a half, uh, talking football with Mike.

Speaker 2 (08:33):
You're gonna be all right, We're gonna bring him back.
You know.

Speaker 4 (08:35):
Let's not quibble over three years versus five. Let's just
meet in the middle of four.

Speaker 2 (08:41):
R J.

Speaker 3 (08:41):
I envy you and the buffet of topics you guys
have down there in Dallas. Man, here we are, we're
bitching about the Mariner general manager, uh, you know, popping
off and irritating the entire fan base, and you guys
are actually complaining about getting a superstar NBA player traded
and a brand new head coach for maybe the bigest,
most sought after franchise in the NFL. So keep it up,

(09:03):
great stuff. I appreciate this. How fun In New Orleans, Man,
we'll talk too.

Speaker 2 (09:06):
Buddy, love y'all man, thanks for having me, all right.

Speaker 3 (09:10):
RJ Shoppy In Dallas, we'll get a break, a little
fun with audio. We'll do that next on ninety three
three kJ RFM.
