Speaker 1 (00:00):
Joining us right now on the radio show, speaking of
a big win for the program. His program, I believe,
in his lifetime, has never been seven. And oh, I
think that's an actual fact statement of facts. My guess
to know if you were a real fan, he'd been
joining all the students right now that are lining up
beside the stadium getting ready for the game tomorrow. But
he's joining us now on the air from Parks unknown
in the great state of Indiana.

Speaker 2 (00:20):
Guess how are you meant? Well?

Speaker 3 (00:23):
How the hell am I? I'm good, I'm excited. When
we first put the strip together. I put the strip
together back in March whenever the schedule came out, and
I remember thinking, in all, honestly, I'm gonna have a
good time. I'm gonna root for my alma matter. But
I'm not gonna really care who wins, because so what,
I didn't expect him to be seven and oh, and

(00:45):
now I really care who wins. You know, I want
him to do well. But hey, do you want to
hear my favorite Duchess story involve I do?

Speaker 2 (00:52):
Yes, I do, Yes, I do. I was doing my.

Speaker 3 (00:55):
Show at the Duchess as you and Dick are doing
your show at the Duchess many many many years ago,
and Sonny six Killer was there. He was helping us
do some stuff and getting some stuff set up, and
he says, I'm late. I gotta get home. I gotta
get home. But he sees sits and he's gonna have
a beer. So he sit at the bar and the
phone rings and he actually says to the bartender, Hey, hey, hey,

(01:16):
if that's Denise Keller, I'm already on my way home.
So the bartender answers it, and he goes, yeah, yeah,
he's already on his way home. Yeah, yeah, okay, all right,
see you soon out. Sonny says, what did she say?
And he says, she said, pick up some milk on
your way home from the store.

Speaker 1 (01:35):
Beautiful, Thanks to be Sonny sixth Keller man common funkla
like us aren't getting that courtesy. But gas, Look, we'll
talk about the game in a second and break this
thing down.

Speaker 2 (01:46):
But dude is a Who's Your Fan?

Speaker 1 (01:48):
And I was talking to Don Fisher, as you know,
the longtime voice of Who's Your Football and Basketball? He
started doing Dick the Radio for Indiana with the year
I was born in nineteen seventy three, when he was
twenty six years old, so he's been there a few
years before.

Speaker 2 (02:02):
He's been there a long time.

Speaker 1 (02:04):
And he says this is maybe the greatest Indiana football
year of his life. And you guys, honestly, man, you're
seven and zero, maybe can even withstand the loss. You
gotta be thinking playoff at this point.

Speaker 2 (02:16):
Huh.

Speaker 3 (02:17):
Well, yeah, I was a question. You're you're hoping for that,
you know, being an Indiana fan. And I love Don
I'm glad you talked to him, and he was and
has been through my career such a mentor to me
and so kind to me. And I remember in my
own mind when I met him in nineteen seventy eight,
I'm a freshman and I'm like, you know, before too
long he'll retire, and I'm gonna do his job. And

(02:39):
I wasn't planning on him still working in twenty twenty four,
right doing the job. He's been a legend. It's an
incredible year. You know, Kurtzignetti has just you know, he started.
He gets here and he immediately started knocking down barriers
and knocking down beliefs and knocking down walls. But all
that being said, you'll remember this is a team with

(03:00):
like two winning seasons in the last twenty five years.
This is a team that's played in one Rose Bowl. Historically,
it hasn't won a Bowl game since I think ninety three.
And I don't mean this is the cheap joke that
it's going to appear to be. Being an Indiana football
fan is a little bit like being a Mariners fan.
You're always waiting for the other shoe to drop. Yeah,

(03:21):
you know, just historically, you're always waiting for something to happen.
But with this guy, if I said that to Signette,
he doesn't know me. If he heard me said, he'd
probably kicked me right in the ass. I mean, he's yeah,
he doesn't put up with that stuff. He doesn't put
up with their history. He says, that's all history. I'm
here now. And you know his great line, google me
I win and he does. And he's put together this

(03:43):
incredible team. He brought a lot of guys from James Madison.
It's really an amazing story because James Madison was great
last year. But all that being said, you're like, yeah,
but they gotta jump from the Sun Belt into the
Big Ten. These guys are gonna play well. They have
and they are and they're great. You know, they're they're
they're real, and they're spectacular and it's, uh, it's fun

(04:04):
to watch them.

Speaker 4 (04:04):
Right now, can we see through the schedule that they've played,
have you watched enough of them? And and can you
translate what you've seen into games against good to really
good competition and will they pass those tests? Because I
think Washington is the best team they've played, especially coming
off the spot that Washington's coming off of with the

(04:25):
bye week and everything, and they get their butts kicked
a couple of weeks ago. Is this going to translate
into bigger time wins?

Speaker 3 (04:34):
I had this conversation with everybody from Nebraska last week. Okay,
you guys haven't really played anybody yet, And I'm like, yeah,
you're you know, you're right, you're right with our schedule
has been very favorable, and yeah, I agree, and I
call all my buddies in Nebraska said, you know what,
we still haven't played anybody after getting rid of your ass.
That's right, fifty six or seven, think six to seven
your way back to Lincoln. And I have a good

(04:55):
time with that. I don't know. I guess I would
say Washington's probably the best team they play. I would
have thought that would have been Nebraska. They're four and
oh in the Big Ten, and they've played the teams
that were dealt to them. Like we have one common
opponent with Washington, that's Northwestern. I agree with you, Dick
about the setup Washington having a week off. I think

(05:15):
Fish is a pretty good coach. I don't know if
he's great yet, but I think did a pretty good coach.
I think Uski's are a pretty good team. Having two
weeks to work on stuff generally helps a team, so
that that concerns me. Indiana's quarterback being hurt concerns me
a little bit. But but I'll be honest, and again,
cockyness does not come natural to Indiana football fans. It

(05:35):
just doesn't. This is basketball. I'd be dunking all over
you guys on everything. I have no concern at all.
Football is different. Football is different, and you know, But
that being said, I think Indiana is the better team.
The better team than always win. But I mean I
favored by a touchdown. I think just just player for
player across the board. This is not There's nothing fake

(05:56):
about this Indiana team. The you know, the quarterback being
hurt is a question mark and a concern. But they've
got so much talent and so many other places that
Tavin Jackson can come in. Uh and and just you
just not make mistakes. You take advantage of all the
guys he's got that can help him. I think they'll
win the game.

Speaker 1 (06:16):
Yeah, well, I think we should put something really big
on the line. I mean this these pleasantries, man, or
this is for children. Come on, let's get serious here.
Husky's Indiana winner gets the Pacers. All right, we got
the arena, We're good to go. God knows how long
it'll take for the Sonics to come back home. It
could be years for them. I think we get serious
with this. But you mentioned Jackson. His dad Gas played

(06:37):
for the Cougars on that ninety seven rose ball team.
That's the game that spurned the bike ride to Pullman
by the way, which was your stupid idea almost thirty
years ago. And I almost got killed, to be honest
with you. But his dad played on that team. Ray
Jackson was a corner and now his sons playing for Indiana.

Speaker 2 (06:54):
So what do we know about this kid?

Speaker 1 (06:55):
I mean, honestly, because the numbers are ridiculous, right, number
one in the country and scoring averaging forty eight points
a game.

Speaker 2 (07:01):
But all these crazy numbers are all with the Rurt kid.

Speaker 1 (07:04):
How much different do you really think it'll be tomorrow
with this Jackson kid starting.

Speaker 3 (07:08):
He looked great last week in the second half against Nebraska.
Now he had a huge lead and they didn't ask
him to do a lot, which which you know, again
that hopefully will feed into tomorrow. You know, if they
can get him a lead and he doesn't have to
do a lot. He played a he started eight games.
He had a couple of last year. He had a
game against Louisville where he really played well the whole day,
a game they should have won that they played up
in Indianapolis and they did. So he's shown he can

(07:32):
do it. The pedigree in Indiana is cool because his
brother is Trace Jackson Davis, the great basketball player. So
you know, what does that mean anything? Probably now, but
it's kind of cool from from the Hoosier fans perspective
that there's that link there, you know. And again he's
had he's been able to work with with Rourke. He
has been fantastic and you know, they they I think

(07:54):
Rourke's not gonna play, but they said there was something
that came out earlier this week about well, he's made
a little more progress than we thought. So yeah, I
don't know. It's the injury is brutal to think about
your your thumbnail ripped off. That that doesn't sound like
it would good. But you know, so, I don't know
if it comes down to can he handle the pain,

(08:14):
can he grip the ball right, or or do they
want to say, look, you know what, we cannot force that.
This guy has been so great for us. We can't
force them out that we're gonna go with the backup.
I'm not as concerned about that again because of the
other weapons. Uh. You know, one thing that that that
Indiana has done great this year is run the football.
They got to Justice Ellison, uh And and Tyson a

(08:35):
lot and a pair of running backs that they've been
really good at it that they're they're one of the
best running running teams in the country. Washington's run defense
is good but not great. I think a big key
is Indiana being able to run the ball and not
having to lean on Tavid Jackson to throw the ball
a lot, even though they do have some good receivers.
But uh And Indiany just stout defensive effort too, and

(08:58):
their defense has been real this year. They can be
good across the word. You can't let if this young
guy's playing all day tomorrow, you can't fall behind fourteen
or seventeen to nothing. That's just probably gonna be asking
him too much. The Huskies are good enough to make
that happen. You know, the Huskies should come out, get
a head full of steam and all of a sudden,
I okay, now we got a backup quarterback and we're
asking to make up two touchdowns. That's tough to.

Speaker 2 (09:18):
Do, no question.

Speaker 4 (09:19):
I think you're right that front seven for Indiana against
Joanah Coleman in that running game is gonna be huge,
and you guys have done really well and.

Speaker 2 (09:26):
Yards per carry aloud? What do you make of this
Husky team?

Speaker 4 (09:28):
Because you know, four and three is about the worst
record they could possibly have based upon how they've played,
because all their wins have been by double digits and
their losses have been close. I mean, this could be
a seven and zero against six and one game very
very easily.

Speaker 2 (09:42):
So what do you make of Washington?

Speaker 3 (09:44):
Yeah? I mean, you know, Dick, I'll say I don't
know on The primary reason I don't know is because
of the Iowa game. You know, the Rutgers game. You say,
they just made some mistakes, they played they played sloppy football,
and they cost themselves the game. You could argue the
same thing against in the Apple Company. He had in
the rivalry factor, and that game was so big for
the Kops. The Iowa game, you know, I really thought
Iowa would win that game, but I was just shocked

(10:07):
at how they just steamrolled him. So, you know, they
they look like I would have expected Indiana to look
this year. When you've got this many new guys coming in,
this many transfers and a new coach, you figure it's
gonna take everyone a while to get to know each other.
And it's kind of the two sides of the coin here.
I don't think the Huskies have been a disaster, and
I think Fish is doing a good job considering the

(10:29):
situation he stepped into. I would have expected Signetti to
be in a similar user. Instead, he's unbeaten and the
darling of football. So it's kind of the new world
where you just don't know how guys are gonna fall together.
Signetti had a big advantage that it happened so many
guys from James Madison. He had a locker room culture
from the first day he got here, right when he
convinced all those guys to transfer up, They're like, okay, okay,

(10:51):
he's got guys right there believe and say, hey, do
what this guy says and will be good. And that's
so critical with that team. You know, it takes a
couple of knuckleheads to throw that kind of thing off
base a little bit, and he had a bunch of
guys in his course. I think that helped. I think
the Huskies are really an enigma because they've certainly got talent. Yeah,
Michigan's not Michigan's not Michigan, but you still you beat

(11:11):
Michigan any year. That's an impressive win. And they look
great in that game. And then to turn around and
get flattened by Iowa. Yeah, I don't know, I don't
know what I want to Washington team is gonna show
up tomorrow.

Speaker 1 (11:22):
Yeah, Michigan kind of sucks though, guys, they're not very good.
I mean, I'll leave it admit that. But Mike cast
is with us from Indiana. Are you actually in Bloomington
right now? Like you're one of these guys that will
show up at the stadium six hours before the game
and just wait until the gate's open.

Speaker 2 (11:38):
What's your plan for tonight and tomorrow morning.

Speaker 3 (11:41):
I'm in Indianapolis. Actually, we drove down kind of in
that area of the day. Yeah, I gotta tell you
a funny story about this. So we drive down today.
There's a little town in the kind of the middle
of a of a hilly region in southern Indiana called Nashville, Indiana.
It's kind of a boutique shop and winery and distillery
plan and just a cool little place to go be
a tourist for a day. I mean, it's just in

(12:02):
the middle of nowhere as you could possibly be. I'm
walking across the street and now here right grass and
it's Jeff. It's Jeff Antosh's brother, Jeff Legendary kJ R
sales guy. So you know, I don't know what he's
doing down there, but he's yelling at me, like, well,
I didn't expect to have somebody yell my name at

(12:23):
this place. But no, I am not getting to the
game six hours early. I'm not going by the game
day set. I don't. I'm well, we'll get there in
a inappropriate time and we'll have appropriate amounts of fun,
I guarantee. But I'll also I'll also guarantee you I'll
be a little nervous. It's not the only thing. The
only thing I get nervous for anymore is Indiana football,
and I'm I'm gonna be a little nervous tomorrow.

Speaker 1 (12:44):
Some saying you are holy cow man when the last
time Game Day was there and you just blowing it
off like it's just a typical week, weekly thing for you.

Speaker 2 (12:52):
Holy cow.

Speaker 3 (12:54):
Let me ask you, do you guys watch that show? No?

Speaker 2 (12:57):
I watched this, but I'm usually on the air. I haven't.
I'm working.

Speaker 3 (13:02):
I used to. I used to love it, and they
all of those shows have just warned me out. It's
too many people talking, it's too many inside jokes. I
thought I must not be saying of the show anymore.
And I watched the Fox Show last week and it's
the same thing. It's just everybody yammering over the top
of each other. This this thing that we've all wrought,
you know, with with sports radio. It's a I was

(13:22):
I was in this will shock. Yeah. I was in
a bar the other night here in Indianapolis, and they
had like six different shows on this big screen TV
and they were all talking head shows. I counted like
twenty different people. Like like, here's five people talking about
the opening night of the NBA and over analyzing everything happened.
Here's four people talking about this week's NFL games and

(13:43):
what's gonna It's like, god, man, there's there's so much
of it. So I don't need to I don't need
Game Day to be in Bloomington to tell me this
is a big game.

Speaker 1 (13:52):
I was gonna say, are you talking about our show?
You're talking about Game Day? Man, Because the criticisms that
you're leveling towards Game Day, some would say you could
level towards us. And by the way, when you talk
about all these idiots yammering on the air, you're partially
the blame for that. Pal, I gotta be totally honest
with you.

Speaker 3 (14:06):
I just said that. I just said, just this thing
that we ron. I had no idea. I feel like
Pat O'Day when he got when he brought the turbine
engines to the hydrols, make us mistake.

Speaker 2 (14:16):
I ever mess right, you were in the garage way
to go, idiots.

Speaker 1 (14:21):
My God, you spawned a whole generation of knuckleheads.

Speaker 3 (14:23):
Man.

Speaker 1 (14:24):
All Right, dude, Hey, great stuff, good luck Tomorrow. We'll
see what happens and we'll have to do this again
when the basketball team takes on the the Sprinklets, when
they when they come to town to face the dogs,
and heck gads, so have fun tomorrow.

Speaker 3 (14:38):
I see it, man, I will guarantee y'all have fun. Thanks, guys.

Speaker 2 (14:42):
Done.

Speaker 1 (14:42):
All right, Mike cast I know with us from Indiana,
he's gonna be at the game tomorrow. We're gonna break.
We're gonna hear from Jet Fish. We're gonna hear from
Hugh Millin. We're gonna hear from Ryan Grubb. We're at
the Duchess courtesy of San Juan Seltzer. We're also gonna
hear how much Dixon Fane's voice has changed in the
last five or six years. Because there's nothing else going on.
There's no Seahawk game, now Husky game. Let's find that
what Dixon Fane's voice sounds like. Coming up on ninety
