Speaker 1 (00:00):
Now back to Football Friday Age sponsored by Tito's Handmade
Vodka on your home for the NFL Sports Radio ninety
three point three kjr FM, rolling.

Speaker 2 (00:12):
Into the final segment of the show on a Friday night,
and if you flip over to nine to fifty kjar
am in about fifteen minutes, you will hear the dulcet
tones of one Michael Benton calling a three A state
championship game and to preview it with us from Varsity
WA News, our friend Todd and Millis Todd, how you doing,

(00:33):
Jock good?

Speaker 3 (00:33):
I'm doing well, man, Yeah, with Ariel Wendy here at
Husky Stadium. So I imagine it, and it's supposed to
stay throughout the day, so it's going to make it
for very interesting state championship games for the rest of
the day.

Speaker 4 (00:43):
That's the thing.

Speaker 2 (00:44):
I mean. This change from indoor, cozy climate in Tacoma
that we've had forever and ever and ever now to
Husky Stadium is going to be different.

Speaker 4 (00:52):
Now.

Speaker 2 (00:52):
It does not sound like in the three A game
tonight is going to be much as much an impact
as it would necessarily in the four A game, because
it sounds like Mount Tahoma and o Day, these two
big time teams this year just want to grind it
out on the ground anyway, Right.

Speaker 3 (01:08):
Yeah, they're built very, very similarly, Dick. And it's interesting
because we all know about Oday and Monte Kohler and
the Viera offense, and we're going to rotate three or
four guys play power football and we're gonna let our
defense do its thing. Montahoma's built exactly like that. They've
got three running backs that they will rely on. You know,
Nezzie White and Felix Diaz are kind of leading the

(01:30):
leading the committee, and they'll take some they'll take some
chances with Mika Cadero and Elijah Door. So Husky fans
get used to that name because he's signed with the
University of Washington and he's had a fantastic year the
MVP of the three APSL. So, but I think tonight
it's going to be run the football and play defense.
That's the kind of weather it is. I mean, we've

(01:51):
got thirty thirty thirty mile an hour gusts of wind
going in one direction. So if you're going to the east,
if your offense is going to the east, you're gonna
have a really difficult time scoring.

Speaker 4 (02:01):
Would this be an upset?

Speaker 2 (02:03):
I mean, I know Oday's the one seed, Mount Tahoma
is the two.

Speaker 4 (02:06):
Was it? First of all?

Speaker 2 (02:07):
Was it an upset last week when Mount Tahoma beat
East Side Catholic even though Mountahoma had a higher seed
and we all think of east Side Catholic as this big,
huge megalith power and yet Mount Tahoma got the win
fairly easily twenty one to six.

Speaker 4 (02:20):
Was that seen as an upset after that game?

Speaker 3 (02:25):
I mean maybe marginally. What I think what took everybody
back was was the fact that Mountahoma controlled the football
game and Maltahoma's defensive is I mean, they would fare
very well this year with their twenty sixteeniors in the
three A Metro League. So I don't think the fact
that they went toe to toe with Eastside Catholic doesn't

(02:45):
surprise anybody. But the fact that they they got out
to the big lead and East Side Catholic did not
score until the final minutes, yeah, that was a little
bit of a surprisal. So in that regard, yeah, but hey, listen,
this team is I know it's difficult for people outside
Seattle and use a brand of football that wins. You know,
the wink of w and the power football of oday

(03:08):
and East Side Catholic, you know, that's kind of ruled
the roost the last decade or so, and Mount Tahome's
kind of taken a little bit of everything there and
kind of apply it to their twenty sixteen years and
they're just playing great football. But much like oday, the
defense from Mountahoma drives the bus Dick and I expect
that to happen tonight, especially with this wind, very low

(03:30):
scoring game. I'm anticipating well.

Speaker 2 (03:32):
And then tomorrow night in the game I'll be calling
along with Chris Kidd at seven o'clock. We should see
more balls in the air, so we'll see if there's
a thirty five mill an hour wins tomorrow night. That
may favor Sumner a little bit as the Sumner Spartans,
the defending four A state champions taking on Lake Stevens.
Who does love do to chuck it around? What do

(03:52):
you think about this game? Matching two fabulous longtime coaches,
Keith Ross of Sumner in his twenty seventh year and
that Tom Try from Lake Stevens.

Speaker 3 (04:02):
Yeah, it's only the second time in state history in
the four, a game where the past two state champions
have played. You know, the following year they played each other.
So Lake Stevens winning it in twenty two and twenty three,
like you said, Summer beating Camus last year for the
state championship. It's first in a very long time, and
Keith Ross's first as a coach. You know, the these
teams played in Week one. It's a it was a

(04:23):
rematch of the season opener last year, and like last year,
it came down to the final play and Lake Stevens
ended up pulling it off on a last second touchdown
pass from Blake Moser. You're gonna have fun watching Blake Moser.
If he's not completing passes in the wind is affecting
the pass game, he can beat you with his legs.
He is a it's like what it's like. He's sort

(04:43):
of like being shot out of the cannon so fast,
and then if you put too much attention with him,
then Jamian Ferrell, the really twitchy running back, can take
it the distance too. It's a very very dangerous offensive
backfield that Lake Stephens has. But if it's not windy,
then you got mac. You know, you've got to You've
got three really good receivers that Lake Stevens has on

(05:03):
the perimeter to throw the football too. They're a really,
really dangerous offense and there's a reason why they put
up fifty sixty seventy points in the postseason. They're really,
really difficult to stop.

Speaker 2 (05:13):
Dick and if anything, if last week's game has anything
to do with this week's game for Sumner, all I
have to do is remember two names, and that's running
back Lance McGee and wide receiver Braylan polp Braylan Polpe
because Coach Ross told me that those two got forty
nine touches out of the fifty plays they ran last
year or last week. Rather, Lance McGee a two thousand

(05:36):
yard running back and then Braylan Pope was absolutely fantastic
ten catches, one hundred and thirty three yards and two
touchdowns last week.

Speaker 3 (05:45):
Yeah, and Brailan Pope, like you mentioned, had a big
game against Lake Stephens the first time with four touchdown catches.
He's tough to stop. And so Lake Stevens is going
to have to figure out a way to bracket him
or get some help on him. But I think you're
gonna see Lake d Even's defense gear. Just stop Lance McGee.
I mean, he cannot run for three hundred and thirteen
yards against Lake Stevens like he did last week against

(06:06):
If the Bikes think they're going to win the game,
so I think they're probably going to load the box
and really key in on Lance and find some help
against Braylin and and force Sumner to kind of go
to other guys. Like you said, those two really hogged
targets and touches last week. If those guys are allowed
to dictate the game like they did last week against
poll Up, it could be for a very long night

(06:29):
for the Lake Stevens defense, a defense that has struggled
at times here in the postseason. Against a good passing game.

Speaker 2 (06:36):
Hey, enjoy the game tonight. I'll talk to you tomorrow night.

Are You A Charlotte?

In 1997, actress Kristin Davis’ life was forever changed when she took on the role of Charlotte York in Sex and the City. We all saw ourselves in them as they searched for fulfillment in life, sex and friendships. Now, Kristin Davis wants to connect with you, the fans, and share untold stories and all the behind the scenes. Together, with Kristin and special guests, what will begin with Sex and the City will evolve into talks about themes that are still so relevant today.
