mile rand by Sounders FC players this season through Rape
Foundations one mile, one Ball program. The Provident Swedish pre
match show starts now.

Speaker 2 (00:35):
Well, it's been quite the last seven days for your
Seattle Sounders. We have experienced the high of putting five
goals on LAFC in a big win at lumin Field.
Then we watch the team unfortunately bow out of the
twenty twenty five CONCACAFFT Champions Cup with a four to
one loss to Cruiz a Zool on Tuesday, and then

(00:55):
adding insults onto Acuni, adding injury onto insults. We got
word yesterday, official word. Jordan Morris, Peter dal leavega. They're
both gonna be out for around a month and very
very sadly, Paul Ariola is now out with a torn acl.

Speaker 3 (01:12):
So yeah, it's been a week.

Speaker 2 (01:15):
We have a lot to discuss as the Sounders are
getting ready to face Saint Louis City SC tonight down
in Saint Louis.

Speaker 3 (01:23):
So here we are welcoming you too.

Speaker 2 (01:25):
The Sounders FC pre match Show presented by Providence Swedish,
the official healthcare partner of Seattle Sounders FC. Jackson Felt's
alongside Diego Arioa and Pete Fewing. We are here for
the next half hour and then Danny Jackson and Pete
will be having the call for Sounders and Saint Louis well.
And then on top of both of those are all
of those injuries I just mentioned. On top of that,

(01:48):
also Jamargomez Andrade is missing today's game due to a
personal matter. Uh, and obviously that's gonna take a hit
for the defense. And in addition to that, Brian Schmidt,
our head coach, did not travel with the team to
Saint Louis due to illness. Assistant coach Freddie Warrez will
serve as head coach for this evening's match.

Speaker 3 (02:10):
So other than that, no, I.

Speaker 2 (02:13):
Mean, Pete, Diego, I mean, as we kind of set
the scene here and we can look back a little bit, sure,
but really a lot of the looking back is looking
at what's available tonight.

Speaker 3 (02:23):
This has been a tough seven days for the team.

Speaker 4 (02:25):
Beat It has been a tough seven days, but I
like what we're putting out on the field. It's a
very confident group, cohesive group. We talked a lot in
the preseason, in the first few games about the depth
of this team, and it's being tested today. But our
starting eleven is filled with a bunch of guys who
are used to starting on this team. So Freddie Warez,
the head coach for tonight, puts out a three four

(02:47):
to three. Stephan Fry, your captain is in goal. The
back three knew who on the left, Bell in the middle,
Reagan on the right side of that in the midfield
before Paul Rothrock on the left, Alex rolled on on
the right, Obiit Vargas rolled on in the middle of
the park. Rusnak will be on the left hand side
wide up front, and Georgie Manongo will be on the

(03:08):
right hand side, and Hesus Ferrera will be starting up front.
So I still like the group. The bench is pretty decent.
I know we'll cover that a little bit later, but
it's a good group.

Speaker 2 (03:17):
And what you just listened there, I should mention is
the Delta starting eleven for the Seattle Sounders. And I'm
glad you I'm glad you did mention that, Pete, because
I think the entirety of this pre match show, in
the entirety of this first segment here really needs to
be done in the context diego of what is available
given the absences, because this is a team right now
dealing with a lot of things in and out, including

(03:39):
the head coach.

Speaker 5 (03:40):
Yeah, and this is one of those games that the
depth of the team is going to get tested, right
playing against Saint Louis, a team that hasn't been beaten
yet with also three clean sheets. But I think to
Pete's point that at Seattle Town there have a pretty
solid eleven with experience and young players.

Speaker 6 (03:59):
I like to see.

Speaker 5 (04:00):
Obviously we're not having Jerem Marius on top, and he
has already three goals this season, but having Jesus Ferrera
to have a big opportunity like this is starting the
game and really showing you know what they brought him here, right,
because he's a really good, experienced player and also can
score pretty quickly and I like also the speed and
the venimism that we have from Joji Minongou on the right,

(04:22):
and then always the Alberusnak always with the assists Pete.

Speaker 2 (04:25):
I think the subject of Haesus Furr is an interesting
one because obviously a major acquisition in the offseason. It's
a team that you know, was struggling a little bit
offensively last year, to say the least, and I think
we all knew they needed to add, you know, a
big aircraft carrier type of offensive threat that Hayesus for brings.
He's been playing off of guys like Jordan and Pedro

(04:46):
and kind of you know, being the complimentary piece in
a lot of ways. He's assisted on goalst to Paul Ariola.
But today he really is is all right, you know
you are the big price piece. You are the big
thing to come help our off today. We're looking to
you to help our offense.

Speaker 4 (05:03):
Well. Good players are able to switch and play different roles,
and he had the great assist he had with Kolane
for his first goal in MLS was fantastic. He he
had his back to Kolani and he just glanced over
his shoulder and played that great ball. But now he's
got to be a bit of a post up player.
He's got to get to that near post. He's got
to get on the end of crosses. He's got to
be available when we come out of the back. He's

(05:24):
also got Russneck up there and Albert will come underneath
him a little bit. This lineup will change quite a bit.
We say it's a three four to three, it'll morph
into four at the back at some point. Right Alex
is very comfortable back there and so depending on where
the ball is, that's where the team. I love the
term balance and opportunity. So Verrera will be up front,
that will be his job, but I think players will move.

(05:47):
And you know, Christian Roldan had a phenomenal goal from
the edge of the box against LAFC. He can get
a little higher up as well. Ovid could maybe stay home.
So they'll make it work, no question. And it's a
very competent group. And your point, this is a great
opportunity for Jesus to get on the board, to make
his mark with the team and try to stay on
the field. Everybody's competing for spots.

Speaker 5 (06:09):
Yeah, and you're mentioning about Jezus Ferreira and I really
want to see that connection with Albert Rosnak because we
see Albert Rosnick how skill he is to look for
the player and the space. And also if we think
about how hezos Feria has been playing for when he
used to play for FC Dallas, he's not like a
typical nine that he will just sit on top like

(06:29):
he will come back and recover the ball. So I
want to see that connection and those passes between Albert
Rosnak and also using that right wing with Georgie in
that speed, and I think that's going to be an
interesting connection because it's so different that we usually have
with Joan More is that it's more speed power and
then try to finish right. So it's going to be
a different type of attack as well.

Speaker 4 (06:49):
One thing I look forward to is how is he
going to read Georgie Manongo Because that kid is relentless
when he's on the sideline, so he's seen him enough
to know that, hey, if Georgie is going to get
it and go right at somebody, so I need to
make sure I'm available to get to that near post
to slash in front of the goalkeeper. He's seen him
enough that he's not going to be surprised when Georgie
gets it. He has one thought, go to the goal right.

(07:11):
Occasionally he'll come back right and he'll play the simpler
ball and he's been so effective. But that'll be fun.
And Paul Rothrock on the other side, right, he's got
to get onto those crosses as well.

Speaker 2 (07:20):
And Paul Rothrock really, I mean, he had a tough
start to the season and then against LAFC he broke
through in a game against LYFC. Meanwhile, first game in
club history. Five different goal scorers in that five to
two win, and Paul was one of them. He assisted
on Jordan Morris's eighty seventh goal that made him the
all time record holder for most goals across all competitions
in Seattle Sounders FC history. So Paul had a great

(07:43):
day against LAFC. Now it's about continuing that. But the
interesting thing about this is for Seattle and Saint Louis
And once again you're listening to the Providence, Swedish premat show,
we're counting you down to Seattle and Saint Louis City
SC Tonight Sounders are on the road and the Sounders
are four oh and oh against Saint Louis City and
this is they're perfect against this team. And one of

(08:05):
the you know, the big reasons why is midfield play
in all these games. And then because they're tight games.
I mean they're two nothing games, are two to one games.
And when I look at a midfield that also features
the rocks of Obed Vargas and Christian role, don I
mean diego that pairing, that partnership.

Speaker 3 (08:21):
We started to really see it in full.

Speaker 2 (08:23):
Form last year and it's sort of just kind of
the thing that we can always lean on and say,
no matter if Pedro is out, Jordan's out, you know
x y Z is out, if we have Christian and Obed,
we're gonna have a good shot in every game.

Speaker 5 (08:35):
Yeah, And that's that's what you see from Ovid. And
I think we we've been talking about this about Obed
Bargas over the last couple of years that, due to
even though he's really young, is one of those reliable
players that you know where you're gonna get right. And
I think Schmetzer always and in this case, Freddy Warez
knows what he's gonna get with Ovid and that connection
with Christian and that experience. But to me, Ovid always

(08:57):
plays like a you know, he's like five years ahead
of his age. Yeah, with that experience, with that just
being you know, patient with the ball. So I really
like to see this dynamic duo in the midfield. And
also knowing that Christian and Owed they all go Bucks
to Bucks, So that's going to be really hard for
some Lewis that Hey listen. Also we'll talk about the opponent,
but Sain Louis is also so far this season a

(09:20):
team that they haven't received any goal yet, right, So,
I mean clean three clean sheets.

Speaker 2 (09:24):
Only two teams in Major League Soccer history have gone
clean sheets in the first four games of a season.

Speaker 4 (09:30):
I don't like the stats that we're talking about because
I know we're four to zero against them, right, So
it's it's like we're jinking them a little. They haven't
given up a goal, We've scored a lot of They've
scored a lot of goals for us, right, So I'm
sure in the locker room, like my palms are sweat
a little bit, I thinking they're saying, hey, no more,
we're not losing the Seattle for a fifth time. We're
not giving up a goal, and we're not giving up

(09:51):
an own goal for sure. So you're making me nervous.

Speaker 2 (09:54):
But it's a perfect chance to kind of segue into
talking about St. Louis City, which we're going to really
do in full coming up the next segment.

Speaker 3 (10:02):
We mentioned there.

Speaker 2 (10:03):
As Diego just said, Freddie Warrez coaching tonight. In case
you are just joining us once again. Head coach Brian
Schmenzer did not travel with the team to Saint Louis
due to illness. Assistant coach Freddie Warres will serve as
head coach for this evenings match. We'll also quickly dive
into the Providence Swedish team health report, which is of course,
as always presented by Providence Swedish official healthcare partner of

(10:24):
Sounders FC Readbaker Whiting out with the hamstring. Still don't
have a timeline for his return. As we mentioned Paul
Ariola out with the ACL and then we got word
yesterday as well Jordan Morris with a hamstring. Pedro de
la Vega quad both are out four to six weeks.
Be guesse for Pedro now it's three to five weeks,
but yeah, injuries for Seattle. They're also missing Jamar Gomez

(10:47):
Andrade due to a personal reason as well. We are
just about thirty minutes away from kickoff down in Saint Louis.
Today's countdown to Kickoff is presented by Emerald Queen Casino,
the entertainment capital of the Northwest, le dig into today's host,
Saint Louis City. We'll do that next on the providence

Welcome back Providence, Swedish premat show. Sounders down in Saint
Louis facing Saint Louis City sc tonight at Energizer Field
and we get a view of what we're seeing at
Energizer Field, lots of fans dressed up for Saint Patrick's
Day in a couple of days. One of the newest
teams in Major League Soccer came in a couple of
years ago. Sounders have not lost, have not even tied

(14:39):
with Saint Louis yet, all wins four oh and oh
here against Saint Louis City. Before you give us the lineup, diego,
I'm sorry. I've been amazingly distracted for about the last
fourteen minutes we've been on the air because you are
wearing like a green velvet Sounders hat with the new.

Speaker 3 (14:57):
Logo on it.

Speaker 2 (14:58):
It's Tortroy that that's one of the best hats I've
seen since the rebrand.

Speaker 3 (15:03):
Where did you get that?

Speaker 6 (15:05):
So I it was a gift.

Speaker 5 (15:07):
There's this brand called fan Ink who they have agreements
with MLS and other other leagues and they send me
this as a gift. So you cannot find it here
in the store, but I can share to.

Speaker 2 (15:17):
Send me the link because I'm buying one of those.
That's a beautiful thing. It's like a corduroy green. That's
that's that's that's tremendous.

Speaker 4 (15:25):
Well to send a posy in junior high because it's
coming back.

Speaker 6 (15:29):
It's coming back.

Speaker 3 (15:30):
Retro is cool.

Speaker 2 (15:31):
Now go back, Yeah, you gotta, you gotta, you know,
break out the things from your your playing days there
with the sounders and all of it's relevant again.

Speaker 4 (15:39):
Long time ago, same different body.

Speaker 2 (15:43):
All right, let's get into Saint Louis City and what
they're bringing. Diego, why don't you give us the starting
eleven for Saint Louis tonight.

Speaker 5 (15:49):
Yeah, So there there's a big surprise that Romemberke, the
star goal keeper, is not starting because he had a
hand fracture this morning. So that's a big news for
the goalkeeper who had three clean sheets so far in
the season. So Ben Lunt is going to be the goalkeeper,
is going to sob in. We have a line of
four in the the back. On the right side, we

(16:11):
have James Horne center backs, cal Herbert Hibbert and Henry Kessler.
On the left, Thomas Tutland on midfield. We have Akil
Watts on the right, Edward Luvin as number ten, Chris
Dirking on the left and on top, Conrad Wallen on
the right, Marcell Hartel in center forward and Cedric two

(16:32):
hurt the German on the left.

Speaker 6 (16:34):
Careful with Cedric so far he's he's on fire.

Speaker 2 (16:37):
Yeah, And they've run the same back four in all
three games pay previously, so very very consistent defensively, except,
of course, their goalkeeper, as Digo mentioned, Roman Burkey out.
Saint Louis just announced of a few minutes ago that
he had a hand fracture in training on Friday. Overall,
Saint Louis Is off to a one zero two start
to the season, two zero zero draws against Colorado and

(17:00):
San Diego, and then they blew the doors off the
defending champs, the La Galaxy, three to nothing last weekend
in a game that was down in Carson, California. Two
like the Galaxy are down very very bad right now,
and then that was a microcosm of their whole season
so far. Impressive win for Saint Louis City last week.
They're not in concacaff action, so they have a little

(17:21):
bit more rest than Seattle, and as we mentioned last segment,
they're looking to be the third team in MLS history
to open a season with four consecutive clean sheets. They
would join the twenty twelve Vancouver white Caps and the
two thousand and seven New York Red Bulls. Those are
the only two teams to start a season with four
clean sheets in a row. So Pete, as we kind
of look at the Saint Louis team, Sounders have a

(17:44):
great history against him, but they certainly are off to
a good start, and they're much healthier than the Sounders,
even with Roman Brookie out.

Speaker 4 (17:52):
Well they are and I like their coach. I did
a little research on him and he had a great
Olf Melburg had a terrific career aston Villa twelve years
with Sweden. He was the national team captain.

Speaker 3 (18:03):
Center back.

Speaker 4 (18:04):
So you get a center back, Danny Jackson's a center back,
you get a little bit of a more grit, more bite,
a little harder, and so that as a coach, that
tease your team up a little better. So I expect
this team to come out blazing tonight, a four to
three three. We've got three at the back for ourselves,
so it's going to be interesting to see how we
match up. We're certainly not going to go man for man.

(18:26):
I would imagine we'll be pulling someone back, whether it's
Rothrock or rolled on or whether it's Ovid tucking back
at times. So again it'll it'll morph as the game
goes on. But it's it's a very good squad. It's interesting.
LAFC didn't have Larise right and tonight they don't have Burkie.
So we've played against two teams with fantastic goalkeepers who

(18:46):
let's hope, let's hope we can punish them tonight with
five goals as we did LFS LAFC. So it's a
really good heart tole upfront. The German. He's a designated player.
He is a very talented player. And they've got a
lot of guys who have started. They haven't had a
lot of change in their lineup before this game. Seven
guys had started all three games, so the consistency within
this group's pretty strong. And as Diego said earlier, they

(19:09):
haven't given up a goal all season.

Speaker 5 (19:11):
Yeah, and that says a lot about how this team
it's really you know, focused on right solid defensively. They're
going to be pressuring that midfield. So there's going to
be a really good challenge for Christian and Ovid right
in that CEA mid and we have I mean Edward Luvin,
who's a number ten, who's really creative, has a lot
of really good quality, but also since the beginning, since

(19:32):
the beginning, yeah Sly City, you know, since the franchise
history in MLS, and he's one of those players that
is not only really created him on top, but also
comes back to defend as well. So it's going to
be I think to me, the midfield, and we'll talk
about more about the you know, keys to the match,
but I think I'm just so intrigued to see how it's.

Speaker 6 (19:52):
Going to play out in the midfield. It's going to
be a battle.

Speaker 3 (19:54):
It certainly will.

Speaker 2 (19:56):
You mentioned on Goos in the previous segment, and this
this stat is one of the favorites of our friend
Kevin Kay with the Sounders the Comm's department, and it's
it's just genuinely amazing that this is even a real thing.
So Seattle's had a couple own goals themselves this season,
of course, we know I think two officially, but every

(20:18):
single time the Sounders and Saint Louis City meet. Saint
Louis has scored an own goal all four times. That's
an MLS record for the most consecutive matches scoring an
own goal against the same opponent. It was Tim Barker originally,
he's actually Tim Barker's actually done it twice. Jake Norwinsky's
done it once. Kyle Hebert, who's starting tonight for Saint Louis,

(20:38):
has also done it.

Speaker 3 (20:40):
So four straight.

Speaker 2 (20:41):
Games with an own goal, At what point do you
kind of just throw up the hands and say, you know,
there's something in the water and Saint Louis is always
going to score an own goal against us.

Speaker 4 (20:51):
Well, let's make a five to night. Let's make a
five to night to see it be five tonight again.
These kind of records fall, and this is such a
unique one. But you know, think about it. With Georgie
Manugo on the right hand side, Paul Rothrock on the left,
I mean, Georgie will smash balls across the face of
the goal, and if you get them running back toward
their goal, anything can happen, and Georgie will get a
lot of crosses. In tonight. Rothrock has been very effective.

Speaker 3 (21:13):
You won't even take matches you're.

Speaker 4 (21:14):
Looking for, I'm looking for number five tonight. Yeah, I
think it's it really comes into can you get them
facing their goal? Can you ping balls across? You're not
going to get too many own goals if you float.
But we saw a couple in the EPL today as well,
so you got to get the service in and anything
can happen.

Speaker 2 (21:31):
Yeah, yeah, I think I think it is a strange
stat though I love it.

Speaker 5 (21:36):
And also I mean it's I would love to see
why not a fifth own goal? And also how Sounders
have outscored in those four wins like nine to one, right,
so st lu CD has only scored one goal in
those four matches, yeah against Sounders.

Speaker 4 (21:49):
So again different coach though for me, this guy, I think,
I think he makes a big difference in their mentality
and their structure and.

Speaker 5 (21:55):
It's really Yeah, I think it's also really organized in
the background exactly starts.

Speaker 2 (22:00):
The former Swedish national team head coach from twenty ten
to twenty twelve, So they are definitely coach a little differently.

Speaker 3 (22:06):

Welcome back to the Providence Swedish premat show Seattle Sounders
down in Saint Louis tonight Energizer Stadium in Saint Louis
Fort Tonight's MLS match. As Seattle is coming off of
a five to two win over LAFC back in MLS
play last weekend and also being eliminated from CONCACAF Champions
Cup on Tuesday down in Mexico City.

Speaker 3 (25:56):
Let's transition into our players to watch today.

Speaker 2 (25:58):
Obviously mentioned that the inn are there to Paul Ariola
to Read Baker Whiting, Jordan Morris, Pedro d la Vega.
Some injuries also Yamar Gomez Andrade missing today's match. Brian
Schmetzer did not travel with the team due to illness.
Freddie Warrez will be the head coach for tonight's match.
So with all of the changes, Pete, what is your

(26:19):
player to watch for Seattle?

Speaker 4 (26:20):
Well, we discussed this and I bounce from Russneck to
Rothrock and then I look at it again and I think, well,
it's Jonathan Bell for me because defensively we've got to
be really strong with this team, and it's the first
start for him. Three at the back right he's gonna
have to make sure that he's organized. He's got good
help on either side. He's got good help on the
wing backs. But I think he's got to have a

(26:42):
very good game tonight.

Speaker 5 (26:44):
Yeah, I'm gonna go with with the man that I'm
expecting to have the game, and that's Causeu's Ferreira, the
US men's national team forward. So far he has assists
and we're talking about it, but I think he also
he's a complete nine for me and he can hey,
he can score, he can make place as well. And
I think tonight is Hey Hasky's the biggest opportunity starting

(27:06):
for this game.

Speaker 2 (27:07):
I'm deciding between two players because on one side, for
Christian roll Don. On Tuesday, he made his three hundred
and fifty second all competition appearance for the club. That
ties Zach Scott for the most all competition appearances by
a field player of any era in Sounders history. Today
marks three hundred and fifty three. He jumps sack Scott

(27:29):
and he is I mean, Christian Roldan, the iron Man,
the legend in Rave Green. Getting that number for three
fifty three to night is an incredible honor, but as
awesome as that is my One of my top interests
over the course of the next two hours is seeing
Saint Louis score their fifth own goal against the Sounders,
making it five for five in every game, them getting

(27:52):
an own goal and PTE you talked about it the
last segment.

Speaker 3 (27:55):
The way to do that is Georgie manoongoo, because Georgie.

Speaker 2 (27:57):
Will run in behind, he'll take on defenders, he'll slam
a ball across the face of goal and it only
takes one poor touch and that thing's into the back
of the net for number five. That is I love
your Christian, and I the fact that you're getting three
fifty three night is amazing.

Speaker 3 (28:11):
But I want to see that fifth O one goal.
I really want to see the fifth O one goal.

Speaker 4 (28:15):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (28:15):
Fair enough, fair enough.

Speaker 4 (28:17):
When you're talking about Joey talking about Christian and Zach Scott,
what two great pillars of this program, right, two guys
who represent the club in the community. Zach Scott, you
said it, iron man, and you'd say the same thing
for Christan hold On. I still remember in his first
year him tracking back about eighty yards and the whole
crowd was like, we love this kid. Yeah, and uh,

(28:39):
and you know Brian Spesster does such a great job.
You know, when Brian took over, he made Christian a starter.
He was a guy coming in and off the bench.
So kudos to Christian tonight for breaking that record. I'm
sure Zach Scott, because he's a class act, would be
very happy about that as well.

Speaker 2 (28:53):
Absolutely, we'll take one more break here in the pre

twenty three. Sounders have only allowed one goal in the
four matches. Last year we saw a two to one
win here in Saint Louis and also a two to
zero win in Seattle in July.

Speaker 3 (32:48):
Let's get to some keys to the match. Diego, I'll
start with you. What are you looking for?

Speaker 5 (32:51):
I'm looking for that battle in the midfield as we
were talking before. I think that's going to be the
key to win. Not only the ball possession, but I'll
so creating opportunities from there also how to be able
to try to minimize the damage from Evar Luvin. Right,
it's a player that no matter what, he's always going
to create someplace right with the quality that he has.

(33:13):
And also I want to see Jesu's ferrera Georgie meaningland
the right and also was like that connection I'm really
interested to see and I think that's going to be
if it clicks, He's going to be good for this.

Speaker 4 (33:22):
Sounders shifting quickly I think is going to be important
there get the three up front, we're going to have
to make sure that we get numbers behind the ball.
I'm with you on the flanks. I want to see
Georgie and Paul Rothrock. I'd like to see Albert kind
of come underneath and help Preyer out a little bit
so that there's more numbers in the middle of the
box when we crosses come in. And then who wins

(33:43):
the midfield? I think I agree with you on that's
who's going to win the midfield, who's going to dictate
play that back three? For me, I have a lot
of faith in Bell and Bryan Schmester has a lot
of faith in this team and the coaches. I know
that he text that today and said, hey, they're going
to do great. That back three has to get organized quickly.
So Saint Louis is coming in again. The new coach, newtone.

(34:05):
Saint Louis has a lot to that they owe Seattle,
so that we're gonna have to weather them a little
bit at the beginning of the game.

Speaker 3 (37:00):
Good evening from Energizer Park in downtown Saint Louis for
this Western Conference matchup between your Sounders and Saint Louis
City SC. Saint Louis so after a strong start under
new head coach olaff Melburg, three clean sheets from their
first three games stands alone in MLS and a statement
three zero win last week versus MLS Cup Champs La

(37:22):
Galaxy has illustrated their balanced threat in both the attacking
and the defending halves of the pitch. For the Sounders,
a pulsating win versus LAFC last week was unfortunately followed
by disappointment down in Mexico as they crashed out of
CONKERCAFT Champions Cup versus Cruisers. All strength in depth has
been the theme so far this season and they will

(37:43):
need the entire group to step up now as they
have suffered some very unfortunate injuries to keep players over
the past seven days. But it's another opportunity to showcase
the resilience that is a hallmark of a Sounders team.
I'm Danny Jackson alongside former seatle the University head co
Pete Fewing for the call tonight, and before we get
to Pete for his thoughts on the game.

Speaker 22 (38:05):
As we get into it, let's get you the delta.

Speaker 3 (38:07):
Starting eleven for your Sounders as mentioned by the group
in pregame, couple of changes for Brian schmittzer Sef and
Frey in goal. A back three of Jonathan Bell, Jackson,
Reagan and knew who Jema is away due to personal
issues back down in South America. Alex Roldan will sit
on that right hand side. Paul Rothrock will sit on
the left. The two holding midfield players Christian rolled on

(38:30):
at Obed Vargas Georgia Minongo will shift on that right
hand side. Albert Rouznak will sit right in behind Heyesus Ferrara,
who will players a number nine tonight, one of the
first times certainly in MLS he's had a chance to
do that for Olf Melburg and his Saint Louis team.
A quick change in goal due to an injury to

(38:50):
top man and goalkeeper Roman BURKEI in.

Speaker 22 (38:54):
Goal is Ben Lunt will start in goal.

Speaker 3 (38:57):
About four of Horn, Hebert Kessler and Totland midfield three
of Durkin, Levin and Watts, an attacking three of two
Shirt Hotel and Vallum so Pete as the team's kind
of start to get ready to go. Sounders don't have
a good showing in.

Speaker 22 (39:11):
Their last away game against RSL and MLS.

Speaker 3 (39:14):
What do they have to do tonight to really get
on the front foot and get three points?

Speaker 4 (39:18):
Well, I think you got to get a rhythm right away.
I think you've got to get organized. I think you've
got to make sure you keep possession of the ball.
It's got to be good movement off the ball. We
need leadership in the middle of the park with Christian
Roldan and Vargas. They're gonna help dictate. I think Christian
can really help dictate the play. And then let's get
service to our wide guys so that they can get
the crosses in from the left and the right. When

(39:40):
Georgie's getting his cross in, I want to see Paul
Brian talked about this a couple of weeks ago. Get
a little bit higher up the field so Rothrock can
get on the end of cross the same for Georgie
when Rothrock is getting his crosses in. We've got some
good attacking players between Rothrock and Rusnak Ferreira Manongo and
I would even add Alex Roldan and Christian Roldan into that.
So get on the front foot right away, but make

(40:01):
sure we are organized. Don't give them anything early yet.

Speaker 22 (40:04):
Couple of reminders.

Speaker 3 (40:05):
Freddie Wires is going to be head coach today for
the Sounders as branch Metsa stayed home sick after the
trip to Mexico. He missed the last couple of days
of practice, so obviously familiar faces. Freddie, of course has
been a head coach in MLS before with RSL, before
he came and took that assistant coaching job with the Sounders,
so we're not.

Speaker 22 (40:25):
Going to miss a beat there. As Saint Louis get
us going, they're going to.

Speaker 3 (40:28):
Be all read tonight at their boycious home crowd as
the ball goes back to step and Fry. Sounders attacking
the goal to our right in their anniversary kit, green shirts,
blue shorts, white socks. As you mentioned Saint Louis in
their traditional red kit, red shirt, shorts and socks. They're
attacking the goal to our lefters Alex Roldand just rolls

(40:48):
the ball out on this near side roll. Dan's been
getting obviously ever more involved. I'd love to see him
get a few more points on the board goals and
assists this year Is came into the league shifting to
that right hand side. You know him obviously very well,
but certainly the last couple of seasons would love to
get him a couple more points.

Speaker 4 (41:04):
I would agree when your defenders are getting points for you.
With Jackson Reagan on restarts Gomez ANDROTI we need it.

Speaker 3 (41:12):
Long throw comes in from Saint Louis headed clear by
that man Alex rolled on. He goes back to the
left facided player cliped in. He's collected by Stephen Fry,
decked out in all blue. Tonight is the Sounders captain,
and he spoke to the media. Yes, they talked about Yes,
it's disappointed to have these injuries, especially the likes of
Ariola of course, who had such a promising start to

(41:34):
his Sounders' career. But it's not just on the field
those players we miss, but also in the locker room
and these times where you have to go into place
like this tough place to play Pete, use that experience
and then kind of grind out results.

Speaker 22 (41:46):
Potentially, Yeah, no question.

Speaker 4 (41:48):
But the good news is we really have a very
experienced squad and guys are going to take advantage of
their opportunity. Paul Rothrock had such a great game against LAFC.
You could feel that he felt he was back, the
team felt he was back, so that's a good plus.
And then again, the middle of the park is good
for us. So I like the group. I don't think
they missed too much of a beat. I also think

(42:09):
Freddy Whereas is gonna look at this and say, Okay,
what a great opportunity for me to, you know, help
have an impact on the game. So he'll be quite
fired up as well.

Speaker 3 (42:18):
Nudge in the back by Chris Durkin on Obed Vargas,
who of course continues to evolve his game just so
strong and powerful for such a young man, and he
and Christian Roldon have really anchored the middle of the park.
It was needs must last year at times for Christian
Roldan to drop back into the midfield spot, but he

(42:38):
solidified himself back into that slot, of course, starting as
Sounder's career alongside Ossie Alonzo in the middle of the park.
But here comes Saint Louis flick over the top, pulled
down by Jonathan Bell. Referee takes a look, gets surrounded
by one of them being Levin asking for a fowl
on top of the box. Nothing given by the referee.
On Hartel it's right on top the box, question mark.

(43:01):
Of course, VR will take a look, but game keeps going.
Refrey took a long, hard look, didn't give.

Speaker 4 (43:07):
Anything hertele wasn't too upset about that was he by
the way, Jesus up front has now received two balls
with his back to the defenders now three, so he's
doing a good job. He's not quite as high as
I bet coaches would like him to be, but he's
been available. He's been a good outlet three times. And
we played almost three minutes.

Speaker 3 (43:26):
Vallum on the pull on Obert Vargas who was wriggling free.
And look down on our monitor right now, just see
a quick replay as a flick by Watson. It was
a maybe a slight tug but he let go. But
certainly Hertel made the most of it he did. I
came in last season Saint Powley helped that team gets

(43:47):
promotion with seventeen goals and thirteen assists, so getting them
back into the Bundesliga is new. Who plays it farst
side the left is the ball. We'll see Rosneck floating
around as he has done so well ten goals, sixteen
assists on his year last year. Got on the board
last week against lafc a Sis and of course that

(44:10):
final goal where it was a great assist by Georgie Menungo.
But it felt like last week Pete was a statement
winning MLS. The team has proven themselves to play such
a high level even games we haven't got results, Cruisers
all at home being one of them where they played
so well. But they have certainly found their footing in
terms of possession of the attacking half of the field.

Speaker 4 (44:29):
Yeah, and I really like the shape. I know we're
only just getting into the fifth minute now, but the
shape has been good. Alex and Paul Rothrock have been
higher up the field. The back three look comfortable. The
spacing's good. Obed's tucking in to be an outlet for
the defenders or for Stephen Fry. So, you know, we
sometimes you know, think, Okay, it says it's going to
be a three at the back, but it's really going

(44:50):
to be five. But right now it's three at the back.
They're playing according to the plan.

Speaker 8 (44:56):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (44:56):
Yeah, and so I'm putting pressure. Ball goes all the
way back. Kyle Hebert to goalkeeper. Ben Lunt had some
time at Cincinnati for a number of years from twenty
nineteen to twenty twenty two. It came to Saint Louis,
took some time in USL to get some game time
and then back in the squad gets a chance unexpectedly so.

Speaker 22 (45:18):
Now, as you mentioned, Ron Burkey got Player.

Speaker 3 (45:22):
Of the Match day for MLS last week for his
eight saves against La Galaxy and watching the replay, Pete, Yes,
they've had three clean sheets out of three games and
that is stands alone in MLS right now. But it
was not without wavering somewhat against the Galaxy, and the
Galaxy can feel a bit hard done by the game itself,
but it was a man Burkey who just stood up

(45:42):
and made some incredible say throughout that game.

Speaker 4 (45:44):
Yeah, not seeing him in the starting lineup has to
be a relief for Sounders players and coaches. It's again
like lafc Larise, same thing. Not seeing him in the lineup.
You go okay, because I'll tell you what. Burke is
a fantastic goalkeeper.

Speaker 3 (46:00):
Certainly kept that team in the game last week, got
the three points. Ball goes in behind Georgie. I mean,
I'm going inside the eighteen yards cuts back out a
chance to find it, turns the top of the box,
strike by rolled On, blocked, picked up by new strike
by Knuho from the left corner of the box, deflected
out far side. It's gonna be a sound as throw.
But good sustained pressure in these early minutes.

Speaker 4 (46:19):
Pete for you, yeah, no question, And what a great
ball from Alex rolled on for streaking in behind the
back line. There for Georgie and then he boy certainly
ping that ball. I think he was looking for Christian
Roldan at the edge of the box. It got to
him eventually, but not without someone touching it first. So
maybe he was trying to give Christian, which I love,
that pass, giving him a chance to have some time

(46:40):
take a shot.

Speaker 3 (46:42):
There's that man, Georgie again, eighteen yards from the end line,
being stood up, whips around towards the end line, goes
over the end I can't quite get around the corner.

Speaker 22 (46:51):
Ball goes over the end line early in this game,
seventh minute.

Speaker 3 (46:53):
In Energizer Park in downtown Saint Louis, the largest urban
sports complex in the country has been developed here Raucus
twenty two five hundred crown at Max's capacity today cost
five hundred million.

Speaker 22 (47:08):
Did this stadium?

Speaker 3 (47:09):
It's hosted US men's national team games already women's national
team games. Of course. Saint Louis in their first season
won the Western Conference under Bradley Carnell before he was
ousted midway.

Speaker 22 (47:21):
Through last year of the team.

Speaker 3 (47:24):
Stutted somewhat after such an impressive first season. We'll get
to Olf Melbourg now on the start he's had and
his experience. Of course, who is mentioned in pregame his
playing experience, the likes of Juventus, of course, Aston Villa
one hundred plus caps for Sweden, captain for the Swedish
national team, of almost five hundred and fifty first team

(47:46):
professional games under his belt, so lots of experience. The
sound as bill flicked around the corner by rolled on
good early possession. Now crossing the halfway line is Rosnek
ball at his foot towards the eighteen yard box, plays
the born to Ferrera, but it was Saint Louis who's
able to come back and pick it off. Valenplans Leven

(48:07):
comes off his toe, look like yes it is, it's
going to be a thrown for the Sounders. Actually Hartel
who came back to support twelve players with a German
background one way or the other, whether they're born in
Germany or have played in the Bundesliga or the Second Bundesliga.
Technical director of being German, of course, that's where his

(48:29):
heavy network is and it's working out so far. Managed
to get a couple of players, one of them of
course being too Shit who came in in twenty twenty
four five goals for assists and ten games played.

Speaker 4 (48:46):
Danny, you talk about Saint Louis. Saint Louis was the
hotbed when soccer started in this country. In the college game,
they have ten national championships. A lot of our US
national team players in the early early days fifties came
out of Saint Louis, so it's great to see them
getting the resurgence that they had good Lord seventy years ago.

Speaker 3 (49:05):
Right, Yeah, I believe the stat is that over a
five decade, the last five decades has been a player
in the national team who's come from Saint Louis over
those years. So yes, it has been in a hotbed
and never a question mark that Saint Louis would support
their team. It's certainly been the case. Built a great stadium,
had some early success. Of course, now trying to build

(49:26):
themselves back into it. In the height of Olf melburg Is.
You know, it's another name into MLS that shows the
strength and depth of MLS is having now around the
world where these types of coaches come try to apply
their trade here.

Speaker 4 (49:38):
Yeah, you know, at first glance looking at him reminds
me a clop a little bit. The energy and the
body language, and a little bit of the hair and
the beard. He looks like he brings. He looks like
a player's coach.

Speaker 3 (49:50):
You don't want to get in the wrong side of
him in the locker room a halftime. Let me a
little bit scared walking in if I'd have made some
kind of an error in the backline especially.

Speaker 4 (49:58):
Yeah, he still looks like he can hammer someone yet well.

Speaker 3 (50:01):
Tonight's match is presented by the Western Washington Toyota Dealers.
So we get here in the tenth minute, nil nil
between Saint Louis and the Sounders. Sounders have not dropped
a point against Saint Louis in the four previous games,
four wins out of four. As the ball goes over
the top, cleaned up well by Jonathan Bell, former Saint
Louis player of course nine games played for Saint Louis.

(50:23):
The boror goes through the legs well played by Alex Roldan, skips.

Speaker 22 (50:26):
Around Levin, nudged off the ball is Georgie on.

Speaker 3 (50:31):
By Vallum, picked up by Hartel comes inside to that playmaker.

Speaker 22 (50:36):
Levin is not your stereotypical number ten.

Speaker 3 (50:38):
Big, powerful player, but certainly has been a success since
coming in in their inaugural season.

Speaker 4 (50:46):
Do you remember when Pedro de la Vega tried to
nut make somebody just outside the edge of the box.
You asked me if Brian Schmetzer would approve of that,
and Alex ral John just tried to make somebody.

Speaker 3 (50:56):
It worked, It worked.

Speaker 4 (50:58):
Poor Bryan having to watch from home.

Speaker 3 (51:01):
Well, we wish Brian, of course.

Speaker 4 (51:03):
He is texting Alex right now, do not do that again.

Speaker 22 (51:06):
Yeah, we certainly wish it worked.

Speaker 3 (51:08):
Yeah, we wish Branch met so quick recovery from his
illness back on the sidelines. But as Brian has always done,
is empowered his coaching staff on and off the practice field.
So again they're not going to miss a beat. They
know exactly what they have to do. Sound has shifting
a kind of flat five right now, dropping Alex Shroldan
and Paul Rothrock left and right of the three center backs.

(51:30):
Jackson Reagan playing on that right hand side today a
little bit of foreign territory for him is typically in
the middle. As a ball goes inside clear by Jonathan Bell,
knocked up sounders, holding a deep line of confrontation.

Speaker 22 (51:42):
It's been a hallmarker Saint.

Speaker 3 (51:43):
Louis in these first three games with under Bradley Connell
was always high press, high energy with Melburgs like absorb,
absorb and then hopefully catch teams on the counter attecht
aka what LAFC have done so well. Of course over
the last couple of years.

Speaker 4 (51:59):
They do look dangerous coming up the spine right when
they're in the attack, when they attacking third, they look
like they have options and ideas that they can execute.
Seattle has to be very sharp. You know. When I
saw all the injuries that we have and then we're
down our coach, I thought, this is one of those
games where you go on the road and you try
to steal a win, right But looking at the way
we're playing, we're very capable tonight of playing our game

(52:23):
right and getting the win.

Speaker 3 (52:24):
Fifty five percent possession is the market that Brian Schmittzer
and his staff always want. Fifty eight point six percent
right now if you want to be absolutely accurate, So
settling into the game in these early minutes, say it's
RSL and even against Cruise Azool down in Mexico, it
felt like the Sounds just couldn't get their footing in
terms of possession, in terms of rhythm of play. But
so far, so good for the Sounds is they'll start

(52:46):
to settle in so much some much more of a
regular routine now as we move through MLS now sitting
conker Caf as we mentioned against Cruise Azoul, and now
the Sounds will get those much needy breaks. It's been
a heavy lift in these first four weeks of the season.
Of course, two games against Antigua, two games against Cruisers,

(53:07):
all married up by weekend games in MLS. So Sounders
have leaned Pete on the depth and breadth of the squad.
And you got to say, the way that Craig Wible
and Bryan Schmetzer's Jackson Regan slips.

Speaker 22 (53:19):
Lands on the ball, is that going to be a
yellow card?

Speaker 3 (53:22):
Looked inadvertent, but then maybe a little bit of a
professional grab as he slipped just outside the eighteen yard box,
it's gonna be free kick for Saint Louis dead cent
to twenty five yards out or so.

Speaker 4 (53:34):
Well, he did the right thing and he got a yellow,
So that was right as you say, and he's shaking
his head what just happened? But his foot went out
from under him and put his hand on the ball.
And if he had not done that, it was a
straight path twenty two yards to Stephan Fry. So he
may have just saved a goal. Again, Brian Schmetzer is
at all. I'm saying, let's.

Speaker 3 (53:54):
Not do that either, right, chance for Levin and Saint
Louis about twenty fives twenty six yards out, just left
of center, exeph and Fry just organizing his war five
man wall anchored by the rolled arm brothers on either side.
See if somebody lies in behind. It's a tacked here

(54:15):
that's been picked up over the years to allow the
water to jump and then the ball can still hit
an oppostacle down below. Saint Louis only scored one goal
against the Sounders in four games. Nine goals for the Sounders,
one goal conceded in those four games.

Speaker 22 (54:30):
Against Saint Louis.

Speaker 3 (54:33):
It's going to be a chance for Saint Louis here
at home. As they attacked the goal to our left,
Edward Levin over the ball wall covering that left hand posters.
Levin's looks at it standing alone over the ball, referees
whistle goes, takes a breath, arms by his side.

Speaker 22 (54:52):
Now he steps up, strikes it on goal and back
of the net.

Speaker 3 (54:56):
Really good strike by Levin.

Speaker 22 (55:00):
It set up well for him.

Speaker 3 (55:01):
On his right foot. He was able to get the
ball up and over the wall, finds the bottom corner
and early here in Saint Louis sounders that go down.
See how Saint Louis one Sounders nil.

Speaker 4 (55:15):
You know this is one of those where Levin's on
the ball. He looked very confident. He looked like he
knew exactly what he's going to do. You see that
sometimes with penalty kicks. But Doug gone it. When I
saw him standing there, I thought we're in trouble on
this one. And seen it before where a guy just
looks like they've got the confidence for I had no chance.
Went to his right. As you say, Danny went up
and down. I'm sure that's the start that Melbourg is

(55:39):
very happy about for his team.

Speaker 3 (55:42):
Nine goals, thirteen assists on his career at home here
and it joins the park for Edward Levin.

Speaker 4 (55:50):
He looked confident, didn't he.

Speaker 22 (55:51):
He was a picture perfect free kick.

Speaker 3 (55:53):
We've seen him deliver balls from set pieces throughout the years.

Speaker 22 (55:56):
Got a really cultured right foot to mention, not.

Speaker 3 (56:01):
Your stereotypical number ten powerful player in the middle of
the park. Sound has now got all the work to
do as Levin comes back now to defend, or goes
back cleared up the field by the back line of
Saint Louis headed back by inadvertently I think by Jackson.
Reagan finds the foot of Jonathan Bell center of the
park is Alex rolled on. Of course, five minutes after

(56:23):
the goal is when a team be most susceptible to
give up a goal. Sounder is going to hopefully take
advantage of that ball to the foot of Rothrock goes
back to Nu who on this left hand side far
side the left Sound is attacking the goal to our
right and Pete after the heavy lift of Lafc a
quick turnaround for Cruisers or it's not the start, you
won't have to chase the game as a little given
go by Ferrera and Rosnack's not able to connect. Bor

(56:46):
goes back to Lundt, who just scoops it up in
the air with his right foot and if it's going
to give the Sound has any confidence when Burkey is out.
Lund does not have the best statistics in MLS. Four
games played in his MLS career all here at Saint Louis, three,

(57:08):
three games last year, one game the year before, three
seasons in Cincinnati, didn't get any minutes on the board.

Speaker 22 (57:14):
But in four games he's given up eleven goals.

Speaker 3 (57:17):
So Sounders need to find a way to pepper that goal.

Speaker 4 (57:21):
That's a great point, and we haven't done that yet.
We haven't forced him into a safe. That was an
unfortunate goal. Jackson Reagan slips twenty six yards from goal,
perfect spot for a free kick.

Speaker 3 (57:31):
A rose that top of the box. Good step by
the Saint Louis back line, picked up by roll down
center of the park as he rolls the ball to
this near side to Jackson Reagan where Freddie Ware is
on his feet. Just try to organize his team now
as they go down one goal to nil. Here was
he creeped towards the eighteen minute mark. Sports Radio nine
to fifty K to your am wherever you listen to us, well,

(57:53):
you appreciate you joining miserable day in Seattle, similar drew
every day in Saint Louis, as well as rain trickled
down during warm ups makes the feel nice and slick,
perfect surface to play the game. George Munuga knocks it
in behind running is Alex rolled on towards the end line.

(58:13):
He goes picked up right in the corner flag well
played by Saint Louis Levin plays the ball to Vallum.
Two Germans together as the ball goes down the line
into Heartle. Another Germans steps over the ball knocked out
of bounds right to Melbourgy enigmatic energizing figure on the sideline.

Speaker 4 (58:34):
Is he does remind me of Clop. Yeah he's got
that same maybe body size, but right there he grabs
the ball, throws it to his players.

Speaker 3 (58:41):
Not the same teeth, not the same teeth.

Speaker 4 (58:44):
I haven't had a good shot of the Clop.

Speaker 3 (58:45):
Have a very mouthful unique smile.

Speaker 8 (58:51):
Yep.

Speaker 22 (58:52):
The ball goes in behind Valin trying to pick it up.

Speaker 3 (58:53):
Good play by Jonathan Bell steps in, just drops his shoulder,
rolls it all the way back to Stephan Fryer really
didn't have much of a chance in thatick.

Speaker 22 (59:01):
When he was dipped up and over the wall.

Speaker 3 (59:03):
Is rolled on, gets clattered into referee looking for an advantage,
no real advantage. Is deep in the sound As half
of the field. It was two Shit who came across,
big powerful player, another German crashes into Alex Roldan. As
you look at the replay right here is he. It's
more awkward than anything. Pete just couldn't stop himself, rolled on,
got rid of the ball. Two Shit came in late,

(59:26):
clattered into him.

Speaker 22 (59:27):
Free kick sunders.

Speaker 4 (59:27):
Yeah, got him with a lot of his body. You
got him with the foot and he's apologizing. I like
to see that, but he definitely knew he stepped on himself.
You know, Danny, we haven't seen much down the left
hand side yet. We haven't seen who get a little
higher up the field where he's going to stay home.
But we haven't seen Paul Rothrock, and we need to
see him. We've gone down the right oh five or
six times. We got to get Paul involved.

Speaker 3 (59:48):
Roth Rock kind of quiet first half last Weekend's LFC,
and then really sprung to life in that second half.
Of course, scoring that goalf in twenty five yards in
that second half put the Sounders in front really build on,
and they built on that, scored an additional three goals
there after. Jordan Morrice, of course, celebrated throughout the week

(01:00:09):
for his eighty seventh all comp goal for the Sounders
to lead all Sounders players and goals scored. Just creeps
past Rol Ruydiez.

Speaker 22 (01:00:22):
It's given away by Nu who is.

Speaker 3 (01:00:23):
A foul looked like on he was rolled on in
the middle of part. Nothing given by the referee. Referees
lting things go and the both sets of players will
appreciate it. Just making sure he called the game at
the right time.

Speaker 22 (01:00:34):
They foul at the right time.

Speaker 3 (01:00:36):
Sounds put some higher press now trying to win the
ball in the defensive half of the field for Saint Louis.

Speaker 22 (01:00:40):
The ball gets clipped.

Speaker 3 (01:00:41):
Down the line clear by Jonathan Bell not messing around, cushioned,
headed down by Saint Louis, picked up by Rosnik. Well
played by Rosnick, read the game well. Georgia Minonga makes
it running behind. Can he pick it up? He does,
finding it against Carla Hebert far side the left comes
back to that man rath Rock, who of course had
five goals in his campaign last year. Really breakout year

(01:01:04):
for young Paul Rothrock and it's going to be a
stop start season so far for him. But it felt
like that second half it really sprung to life. Maybe
that was the catalyst for Paul Rothrock to kind of
pick up where he left off last year. Here he
is now far side the left, closed down by Totland back.

Speaker 22 (01:01:21):
He goes to Vargas.

Speaker 4 (01:01:25):
Saint Louis looks like they're aware of what Rothrock's able
to do, right, They get in tight, they stand him up,
close him down, force him back.

Speaker 3 (01:01:32):
Well. Rothrock talked about Pete that you know, players are
figuring him out. You know, he likes to make that
run high from the left hand side and cut through
that the line the back four between center back and
outside back. And he talked about how the outside defenders
are now dropping a little bit there anticipating that run. So,
you know, Paul Rothrock's gonna have to figure it out.
How does he beat these players and beat these opponents

(01:01:54):
in a slightly different way, maybe more nuanced way. And
that's going to be the evolution for him as a
player as he goes through the years.

Speaker 8 (01:02:00):
MLS.

Speaker 4 (01:02:02):
I like that he's aware of it, right, and then
now he's got to have a little bit of a
stronger repertoire. Right, Can he cut back in, can he
come across the box? Can he play a little one
two's Can he mix it up and not just be
one dimensional? The fact that he's aware of this is
a very good sign.

Speaker 3 (01:02:16):
Henry Kessel gets dragged down another acquisition in the summer
of twenty twenty four. Playing in the center back position
alongside Hebert, he drives forward, gets knocked down by Georgie
menunga free keep by Saint Louis. Ball under way already
as Vallan picked it up. This's near side the left
one nil Saint Louis. Here in downtown Saint Louis. Sounders

(01:02:37):
try to find a way to back up their win
last week. He's las seas the ball went over the top.
There was a wait and see moment right there, but
I think most all the players knew tou was offside
and a two shirt round throw system referees flag on
the far side eventually went up. What do you make
of those delayed responses. It feels like it's you know,
it's frustrating at times, but it feels like, hey, as

(01:03:00):
we make the right decision, and whether he's getting helping
his earpiece or whether he's just taking a moment to
quantify what he just saw versus throwing the flag up
too early.

Speaker 4 (01:03:07):
Well, well, my heart skipped a beat right there. He
was at a direct path three at the back. There
was a gap in there and he went right down
the middle. And I bet we'll see more of that
from Saint Louis. So as a fan coach player, I'd
like to see the flag come up a little quicker
when it's like that, especially because it was pretty clear.
But that little hesitation, I've been impressed with Saint Louis. Danny,

(01:03:29):
they moved the ball well, they're not one dimensional at all,
and they again defensively, very organized.

Speaker 3 (01:03:35):
Yeap, certainly following the Olaf Melburg playbook. Here thirty three
percent possession for Saint Louis. They're absorbing pressure. Don't mind
the sound as having the ball or sit at sixty seven.

Speaker 22 (01:03:47):
Percent right now, But it's all about pressure.

Speaker 3 (01:03:49):
Lundon really had nothing to do so far. Everything's in
and outside of the eighteen yard Boox sounds need to
find a way to penetrate. The ball gets clipped in
towards the fast stick, ball goes all the way through,
bounces over the endline, goalkicks Saint Louis. Here in the
twenty fourth minute, Saint Louis won Sounder's nil and this
score update is presented by Toyota.

Speaker 4 (01:04:08):
We saw this in the Charlotte game, the great goal
that we scored when the ball went wide to Georgie
and he pinged it across quickly. Morris was there to
put it away. A great finish, great cross. What it
did is it caught the Charlotte defense tracking back and
right now you just look at it, and Toyscha was
the highest guy up the field and he was ten

(01:04:30):
yards from his center circle. So that's how compact they are.
So Seattle has to get in behind them quickly and
get their crosses in quicker.

Speaker 3 (01:04:38):
Sound as f C Soka is presented by Provident, Swedish
official healthcare partner of sound as FC Jackson, Reagan just
lets the ball go out in this near touch line
and she rolls itself back to Stefan Fryes sound as
built out of the back as high press from the
Red Shirts of Saint Louis.

Speaker 22 (01:04:55):
As the ball gets.

Speaker 3 (01:04:55):
Flicked into the middle of the park. Good angled ball
by Jackson. Reagan finds Resnick then to rolled on to
Christian rolled on this right hand side is Ferrera skips
the ball down the middle as a run by Christian
rolled On inside the eighteen yard box right hand side
towards the end line. He goes just cuts back double
team by Levin goes down. More of a slip by

(01:05:18):
rolled on than anything.

Speaker 4 (01:05:20):
It's slick, isn't it. I think the field slick. We
just saw Saint Louis player on the sideline going down
and they're kind of clattering into players. So I don't
know if the how wet the grass is, but that
can go both ways. We saw it just now, unfortunately
for us, with Jackson Reagan slipping and then the great
free kick. So players have to be aware that maybe
you give your teammate a little more time on the ball.

Speaker 3 (01:05:42):
So pee as we approached a twenty five minute mark,
what's Bryan Schmeetz start home thinking, and what's freddie Ware
is thinking on the sidelines. What any tweaks the sound
as can make or is it? Just have to be
patient and try to find a way to start to
penetrate in the final third because it really feels that
the goalkeeper has not been tested yet.

Speaker 4 (01:05:58):
No, you're right on all accounts. I think patience is good,
but I think there's there's some urgency that has to
come mixed in with that patience when it's on to
get in behind. Can Paul Rothrock get the ball played
to him higher up the field? Can he get to
the end line. Farrer's done a good job being available.
Here's a nice attack.

Speaker 3 (01:06:17):
Georgia Manongo spins really well, but really good defending by
Chris Dirkin came backs a couple of times.

Speaker 22 (01:06:23):
Georgie's been a little bit off balance, being nudged off
the ball.

Speaker 3 (01:06:26):
Nevertheless, there's a physical, hard league and I think he
get knocked around a little bit right now, just a
little bit off balance at a couple of occasions.

Speaker 4 (01:06:33):
Well, you mentioned the referee who's letting a lot go,
and he is, but Saint Louis has taken more of
the advantage on that. Dirkin comes from behind and he's
not as big as Georgie Manonga, but he just puts
a shoulder into him. Again, would you say how many
German players on this team?

Speaker 3 (01:06:47):
Twelve twelve in the squad is what my research for
d And again not all Germans, but players who have
had time in the Bundesliga.

Speaker 4 (01:06:54):
But they're a bit more physical, right and Seattle's yeah,
the guys are coming and stepping in with their whole
body on the and again to your point, the referees
allowing it. So Seattle's going to have to be expect
to get yet and maybe give some of it back.

Speaker 3 (01:07:07):
Yeah, loots a Fann and Steel is a sporting director
German descent. Hartel had some time with him back in Germany,
so obviously very aware of the players sitting on that
side of the pond. Of course, Germany has always been
a place for American players to find themselves. Greg Burholter,

(01:07:28):
of course, being one of the players who played their
coach there, now having some early success out in Chicago
after leaving the US men's national team role just a
year or so ago. Ball gets played into Valin and
cuts inside. Good pressure by the Sounders, but good play
out by Saint Louis on this near side the left.

Speaker 4 (01:07:48):
They have always been willing, haven't they Germany to bring
in Chris Anderson went as a young guy.

Speaker 22 (01:07:52):
Brent guleg puller sitch of course, of course.

Speaker 3 (01:07:55):
Yeah, Ball on the right hand side is Saint Louis
is two shit, one of those German players stood up
by rothra Lord given go along the six yard box.
It goes cleared well by Jonathan Bell, strip by Dirkin,
blocked by Bell inside the eighteen yard box. Sounders pick
it up with Rothrock plays the ball forward, can't find Ferrera.
It's not gonna have a chance there, drilled into him
head height. It's not the type of player that Ferrara is,

(01:08:18):
and he's the ball to his feet. I torked to
him yesterday coming off the practice field. He mentioned is
how much he's looking forward to playing in that number nine,
which of course is one of his preferred positions where
he's had so much success in MLS. And here comes
the ball in behind the little run by Ferrera, just
cut out by the back line in Kessler. Who's Albert

(01:08:38):
Rosnek driving forward trying to find the ball in behind,
wasn't able to connect now and here comes what's down
the right hand side fast side for Saint Louis covered
well by Jonathan Bell. Ricochets off Watts. It's gonna be
a Sounder's throw deep on their left hand side, right
near the corner flag. Good defending by the Sounders in transition.

Speaker 4 (01:08:59):
Good little effort from Albert Rusnak. Tried to play a
ball through, just didn't quite get there. Albert's done a
really good job. It shows that he's on the left
hand side of the front three, but he's coming underneath
and finding good pockets of space. And he's had about
two or three turns where he can try to find Hayes.

Speaker 3 (01:09:15):
Sous Sounders have it, throw it in. Ricochet's knew who off?
What's again? It's going to be a thrown again for
the Sounders. Sound is in a three back system today,
but defensively, we've seen Rothrock and Alex Roldan drop deep.
They're playing almost like a bank of five in the back.
Tex Stefan Fry's goal regan little cushioned head and nicely

(01:09:36):
into a Rosneck. We'll play by Rosnick as he rolls
the ball to this near side to Alex Roldan, who
gets barreled into no foul, but they're given by the referee.
Look obvious foul is fellon, picks it up inside the box,
strike over the top, goalkick. Sounders players are all bemused
by the referees decision. We've seen a couple's.

Speaker 22 (01:09:54):
Pete I mentioned we talked about Georgia get knocked over.

Speaker 3 (01:09:57):
That second one. He fells more of a barrel into
the so of Georgie. This time Alex roll Dam was
waiting for the impact. It came and he went down.
Referee didn't get hi anything.

Speaker 4 (01:10:08):
No, And I think that's going to be a message
from Freddy whereas is that, Hey, you're gonna get hit,
you need to make sure that you'd be strong on
the ball and that you don't get stuck on the ball.
Because that one all of a sudden turned right back
to Seattle.

Speaker 3 (01:10:21):
Ball, give you away with those sounders inside the box.
Player goes down inside the box. That was a like
for like foul. It looked like from knew Who he said, hey, listen,
you know if they're not going to get anything, he
barreled into the back of a two Shirt has a
go by new Who. I'm not quite sure what he's
trying to accomplish there, referees listening to his earpiece Toosha
got on the wrong side of new Who is just

(01:10:42):
going to take a moment to get some information. He's
going to walk over to two Shirt and have a word.
He's gonna have a word with new Who as well.
Just a little bit of RGI bargie between the two players.
It's a little awkward more than anything. Piece.

Speaker 22 (01:10:57):
We look at the replay here, it's kind of leaned
into him.

Speaker 4 (01:11:01):
He's just leaning out their body. There's no arm, knew
whose arm isn't coming up. He's not hitting them and
didn't feet didn't tangle. So I think I like to
see new who given a little bit of the physical
I prefer not do it inside our box.

Speaker 22 (01:11:15):
I'm sure Brian Schmittz are watching it home. Is this
thinking the exact same thing?

Speaker 4 (01:11:18):
Maybe not there.

Speaker 3 (01:11:20):
This's copyrighted. Audio casts of Major League Soccer may not
be retransmitted, reproduced, or rebroadcast without the expressor and consent
of Major League Soccer.

Speaker 22 (01:11:28):
Sounders have it. Good play by Christian rolled On as
he wriggles free.

Speaker 3 (01:11:31):
As watch goes to the deck. I don't think give
him a referee looked like he'd called the foul then
just kind of inadvertently lets the game go. It's a
bit of a confusing performance so far by the referee.

Speaker 22 (01:11:43):
Sounders have it.

Speaker 3 (01:11:43):
Middle of the park, dead centers Rosa because he crossed
the halfway line.

Speaker 22 (01:11:47):
Blaze it off to rolled down Vargason. Support tries to.

Speaker 3 (01:11:49):
Get the ball in behind a couple of times the Sounders.
I'm trying to find the ball in behind. It hasn't
quite reached its mark so far. Saint Louis defensively, standing tall,
standing strong, detecting their goalkeeper who just got inserted in
the lineup today, Ben Lunt, the spectators. So far it's
both given away by Heartle and this near sience could
be a sound as thrown.

Speaker 4 (01:12:10):
I'm sure they talk about that, Hey, let's take care
of our goalkeeper, right and maybe they don't talk about
his lack of success in goal in the MLS, but
maybe they don't have to say that. They have to say, hey,
let's make sure we don't put him in any bad spot,
don't give away any crosses, no unnecessary fouls, let's limit
their shots.

Speaker 3 (01:12:27):
Thirty second minute Saint Louis won Sounders nil early goal,
free kick from Levin or twenty five yards.

Speaker 4 (01:12:35):
This is a battle, right We're on the wrong side
of it right now. As far as the physical part,
I like it that we're moving the ball as we are.
But I think Freddy in the locker room and Andy
and all the coaches are going to say, hey, we're
gonna have to roll our sleeves up. These guys came
to play and they're not and the referee is allowing.

Speaker 3 (01:12:51):
It possession with the purpose right, Pete sixty seven percent
for the Sounds two shots so far for the sound
is against Saint Louis is three shots, so Saint Louis
happy to absorb pressure will break quickly. Sounders need to
make sure they take advantage of this possession. With the
Sounders and Reagan then his right hand side fans Georgie Minango,

(01:13:11):
He's going to have to find those pockets of space
as well.

Speaker 22 (01:13:13):
As you have to move the ball quickly.

Speaker 3 (01:13:14):
Of the Sounders have to find Georgie because of course,
if the Saint Loose back line are dropping deep, it's
going to provide a lack of space for Georgie to
get in behind, which of course he benefits so much from.
Is that ability to pick up the ball run at
defenders who are isolated on an island. It's happened a
couple of times. Doesn't have the chance to execute and

(01:13:34):
delivery yet and Pete. Steve zac Quani talked about his
conversation with Georgie just last week in the locker room
down at Long Acres that Georgie understands that hey coming
off the bench and providing a spark of energy and
excitement is great. But he's going to have to start
putting some assists and golds on the board.

Speaker 22 (01:13:52):
To really elevate his game to the next.

Speaker 4 (01:13:53):
Level exactly, and the final pass has to be really good.
Brian Schmetzer is going to keep him on the field
if he's productive. If he's a spark player, then he's
a Spark player. But if he wants to start games,
he's going to have to be able to get to
that endline. Get some crosses, find green shirts inside the box.
It's about productivity when you're in the attacking portion of

(01:14:14):
the field.

Speaker 3 (01:14:14):
Has not a player should have get involved in the
game here in this first half, Paul Rothwick gets nudged
off the ball by Tottland. A little drop of the
shoulder by t Shirt that Jonathan Bell reads very well,
finds Christian Roldar middle of the part. Now Jackson Riggan
getting involved on this right hand side, rolls it out
to Georgie.

Speaker 22 (01:14:32):
Now he has a chance to pick up ahead of
steam a.

Speaker 3 (01:14:34):
Little step over going towards the right corner of the
box and double team by Heartloo comes back to support
his left sided player.

Speaker 22 (01:14:45):
Jannis Horn.

Speaker 4 (01:14:48):
Georgie's had a couple going at Totland, but then Kessler
slides over right away. He's got to go at him
and he's got to get him one on one quickly.
When Kessler slides in from the center of the park,
it goes nowhere.

Speaker 3 (01:14:59):
And you mentioned early balls between back line and goalkeeper.
They're the most difficult, especially in the inexperienced goalkeeper. He's
gonna have that hesitancy to come out and try and
deal with that. It's got a chance for Ferrera trying
to find the middle, but it comes New striding forward,
top of the box. Look give and go with Ferrera,
can't quite connect New little motioning of support for Ferrara.

(01:15:21):
Good driving run by New top of the box, lot
given go, didn't quite connect. But it's gonna be a
Sounders throwing on the far side the left. They get
in quickly. The Sounders are coming again. Sixty seven percent
possession for the Sounders in this first half, so lots
of the ball just need to.

Speaker 22 (01:15:35):
Do something with it now. In these final ten minutes
of the first half.

Speaker 4 (01:15:39):
It's been a quick thirty five, hasn't it. I like
that from New who penetrating on the dribble, trying to
play the one too and getting ahead of red Shirts
so they're not all eleven behind between him and the goal.

Speaker 3 (01:15:51):
It' certainly with Jordan Morris missing we mentioned pulled his
hamstring during the week against Cruisers, of course, that's such
a great start to the campaign. Three goals from his
first three MLS games, two goals against Charlotte, one against
of Course last week. L efc to become the leading
goal score would be great to have him on the

(01:16:11):
field right now.

Speaker 22 (01:16:12):
As the ball goes to the far side, skips through
to Georgie.

Speaker 3 (01:16:14):
Milling on this right hand side, good step by Vallum
goes again against Georgie, aggressive player, ball through the legs
of Vallum. Can Georgie find a delivery note we can't,
but it goes over the end line. It's going to
be a corner kick for the Sounders and I feel
in a game like this, Pete set piece is going
to be vitally important.

Speaker 4 (01:16:31):
Yeah, there'd be a great time for Jackson Reagan to
pound one home. What a great little play from Georgie
just rules it through the defender's legs. Shows his ability
to end ability and confidence to go and take anyone.

Speaker 3 (01:16:44):
On sounds a corner kick from this near side there right,
two arms up in the air by Rusnak. Takes a
couple of steps back, now steps in, curls it out
towards the top of the six, headed away by the
back line for Saint Lewis, picked up fart side.

Speaker 22 (01:17:01):
The left with ball.

Speaker 3 (01:17:03):
Good ball coming in, flick clear by Kessler, finds Roznek
on this near sight. He clips it in headed just
off the head of news coming flashing in. It was
a misplay by roth rock ball finds two sha good
step by Alex roldonious to clean up some of the mess.
As the ball got cleared, there's going to be a
throw and in a moment for Saint Louis, take a
breath as they throw it in on the farst side.

(01:17:24):
They're right.

Speaker 4 (01:17:25):
That looked better, right, That looked more dangerous. It looked
some urgency, more green shirts inside the box. Ball whipped
in a little bit earlier, so we need to keep
that elevated pressure on them.

Speaker 3 (01:17:39):
Sounds a little bit of higher pressed now trying to
find a goal before they go into the locker room
at halftime. Get some words of wisdom from Freddie and
Tom Doucher, Andy Rose and the team Precky. Of course, well,

near you. Thirty eighth minute here and it giins a
park downtown Saint Louis. Sports Radio nine to fifty k
AM Saint Louis one, Sounders nil and the score update
is presented by Providence Swedish. The Sounders find a goal
in these final minutes of the first half. It's been
good possession for the Sounders, just haven't tested lunch too

(01:18:23):
much and the Saint Louis goal reminder of course, Sounders
missing a bevy of players who have been so important
to the team in these early weeks. Frera tries to
play him behind there he does. He finds Georgie towards
the end line, right hand side of the eighteen yard box.

Speaker 22 (01:18:37):
Cuts back to a.

Speaker 3 (01:18:38):
Rosneck right corner closed down by the Red Shirts. Finds
Georgie again. Firm Rolldn, you'll drop of the shoulder inside
the eighteen yard box. How can he find some penetrating
run towards the end line, but good defending Georgie maintains it.
Strikes it across headed clear by keslow over the end line,
and it's.

Speaker 22 (01:18:57):
Gonna be another Sounder's corner kick.

Speaker 3 (01:18:59):
But Pete, few the Sounders are knocking on the door
that just now didn't need to find a way to
push it through.

Speaker 4 (01:19:04):
Yeah. Absolutely, the last couple of minutes we've looked a
lot sharper, a little more confident, and a little quicker
Georgie again, you talked about him whipping a ball in
and maybe hoping to get an own goal. That was close,
right there, closer.

Speaker 3 (01:19:19):
Four wins out of four games played against Louis, four
own goals. Amazing static it comes Rusneck clips the ball
towards the foss like headed down by Reagan, bounces in
the six yard box, picked up by Lunt, one of
the first times he's been called into action. As he
throws the ball to this near side the left to Hurtle,
rolls the ball down the line to two shit, goes

(01:19:40):
down by Alex, rolled on.

Speaker 22 (01:19:43):
A little skip by rolled on towards the end line.

Speaker 3 (01:19:45):
Flicks it off the heels or shins. I should say
if Christian rolled on it came across to help his brother.
It's going to be a corner kick for Saint Louis
on their left hand side.

Speaker 4 (01:19:54):
That looked better on the corner. Jackson got up, got
over his man, headed it down. It's a slick field,
a little bit of lack of luck for us in
that it went right to Lunt. But if there's if
a Sounder player gets a toe, we're.

Speaker 3 (01:20:07):
Level five minutes left of this first half, it's could
be a corner caick for Saint Louis. Don't leave us
at a halftime. Jackson and Diego went back to break
it all down. Sounder's name need to defend this corner kick,
and certainly Saint Louis are jostling for positions. We talked,
We've heard about some interviews. I think was even Stephan
Fry talked about the size and physical presence of Saint Louis,

(01:20:30):
and they'll just stand on top of Stephan Fry. Sounders
realizing that's exactly what's gonna happen. I try to physically
push Kesseler away like boxers.

Speaker 4 (01:20:41):
Locked up right.

Speaker 3 (01:20:42):
Well, you know the new's not going to step back
from that confrontation.

Speaker 4 (01:20:46):
But he's a good six inches shorter right.

Speaker 3 (01:20:48):
Let's see what kind of ball comes in. We know
that Levin has the ability to deliver good balls from
set pieces. Scored one already from a set piece, from
a direct free kick, this time corner kick, one arm
up in the air on their left hand side to
be insuing us a drop it Ryan the six headed
clear by Jonathan Bell back over the end line. Gonna
be a second corner kick in a row here for
Saint Louis.

Speaker 22 (01:21:07):
Sound as he stands strong.

Speaker 3 (01:21:09):
Five minutes left to go in this first half, and
whatever the referee adds on thereafter.

Speaker 4 (01:21:14):
A lot of picks being set, a lot of activity,
a lot of physical jostling for position.

Speaker 3 (01:21:20):
Here Levin will take it again on the left hand side,
inswing of the referees, just whistling the play dead, just
waiting for the players to sort themselves out. Stands with
his hands on his hips outside the eighteen yard box.
He's listening to something in his airp He's not quite
sure what it is, but maybe VR has seen something.

Speaker 4 (01:21:41):
It's as physical as I've ever seen this season inside
the box.

Speaker 22 (01:21:45):
But it feels six of one, half a dozen of
the other's not much.

Speaker 3 (01:21:47):
He can kind of not much space between the two
groups of players. Both players try to jostle for positions.
Casseler tries to stand right on top of Fry. You
gotta hope the referee is going to protect the goalkeeper somewhat.
Can't nudge Steph and fight outside of his goal line,
that's for sure. They're still doing his upmost best to
be a pest.

Speaker 4 (01:22:07):
And the referee still being talk to in his ear.

Speaker 3 (01:22:11):
Yeah, we'll see what that's all about.

Speaker 4 (01:22:14):
Yeah, Gessler's a very active inside that box. He knew
who are locked up quite a bit.

Speaker 3 (01:22:21):
Referee having words with Rosneck coursed the The direction from
the league now is the only captains can speak to
the referee. But referee blows the whistle. Now we're going
to face the corner kick. It's can we leerve it
on this left hand side? It can be instwuing a
one arm up in the air, all comes in. Referee
was just gonna wait as soon as that ball was hit.

(01:22:43):
He knew what he was going to do. He's going
to protect the defender all the time. Certainly the goalkeeper
cause to play dead free kick for the Sounders. It's
a few minutes left here in this first half, they
trail one nil.

Speaker 4 (01:22:54):
Four red Shersey's right on the goal line. One coming
straight to kind of create some space toward the corner kick.

Speaker 3 (01:23:03):
Here comes Georgie picks it up twenty five yards from goal,
strikes it just wide. Gosh, Georgie had some space in
the middle of the field. Farrara's asking for.

Speaker 22 (01:23:11):
The right hand side.

Speaker 3 (01:23:12):
Georgie could have slid the ball into a wide open
Ferrara inside the eighteen yard bocks a little bit rash
from young Georgie. But why not from twenty five yards
take a shot? Why not earns the opportunity to take
that shot, but it goes.

Speaker 22 (01:23:27):
Why it's a goal kick. Two minutes left. Sound is
trailing one.

Speaker 4 (01:23:30):
Nil and Georgie will be told about that, right, But
I like, I'm with you. I like the shot and
Hayesu's I think every Sounder would rather Hey Sue's skit
the ball, receive the ball there and a chance to
put it away as a good finisher, maybe a better
for sure, a better finisher than Georgie. But I liked
that he took the shot, and I like that's three
chances Danny in the last five minutes that Seattle's looked

(01:23:51):
much more dangerous.

Speaker 3 (01:23:52):
Sound is dominating possession now they're starting to find a
way through the back line of Saint Louis have stood strong.
Three clean sheets out of the first three games for
Saint Louis. They lead MLS In that step, Ferrera just
has a little kickout. Didn't really connect. But sometimes it's
the intent Ferrara not appreciating what Kessler's doing.

Speaker 22 (01:24:13):
I think the referee's gotta have a word with a defender.

Speaker 3 (01:24:15):
And you know, I played center back, of course, and
if a players try to run through and close.

Speaker 22 (01:24:21):
The goalkeeper down, I don't just stand in front of him.

Speaker 3 (01:24:24):
You know, you've got to block him out. We're told
to protect the goalkeeper. But Farrera just showing a little
bit of frustration there as he swung out, didn't connect.

Speaker 22 (01:24:32):
Referee didn't give anything other than the free kick.

Speaker 4 (01:24:36):
Kessler's doing his job at both ends right, protecting his
goalkeeper and being a pest to ours.

Speaker 22 (01:24:41):
We'll headed forward picked up by Georgie now.

Speaker 3 (01:24:47):
Rolls out to this right hand side, drops into Alex
roldan All, goes into Jonathan Bell Saunder's building in possession
again to Rosnek, who has the ball just inside his
half of the field, rolls it out to Vargas to Christian,
rolled On flicks it over the top, just reached by
Valum at the last second. It was Georgie making a

(01:25:08):
run in behind Christian rold On almost found him as
Texas rigging does some good pressure on t shirt right
in front of Melbourg.

Speaker 22 (01:25:19):
Saint Lewis in possession.

Speaker 4 (01:25:20):
It's a good ball from Christian.

Speaker 3 (01:25:22):
Dangerous Jerkin has it that to Kesler.

Speaker 22 (01:25:25):
I knew that was coming.

Speaker 3 (01:25:27):
Kessel's asking for a free kick, asking for a foul,
asking for the yellow card.

Speaker 4 (01:25:32):
There's about thirty pounds difference in about six inches difference
between Ferrara and Yep and Kessler, and he drops like
a sack of potatoes.

Speaker 3 (01:25:40):
And the problem is Kessel does it to Ferrara. Yeah,
and then Farrera does it back to Kessel, knocks him
to the ground. Looks like he's even got a yellow card.
We'll see if it's a Ferrara yellow card. That's unfortunate.
You know, just shouldered to shoulder. Knew it was coming.
It's a little bit late, but.

Speaker 4 (01:25:58):
You can't protect him. He put his body into him
as well. Yeah, you get baited a little bit.

Speaker 3 (01:26:16):
Here at the end of this first half, Sounders trailing
one goal to Nill off the back of a free
kick from number ten Edvard Levin has lordnches to flick
it around the corner, gives it up or comes to
this near side of the left with Vallum. Georgia comes
across to support defensively sound as eleven men behind the
ball as Levin just skips by. Ferrera. Afrere has been

(01:26:38):
quiet in this first half. He's trying to find the
ball at time to his feet, but it's been difficult
challenge for him to hold the ball up. Sometimes it's
a futile effort by number nine, isn't it When you
get the ball of the away games, the ball goes
towards the end like cut back, and then new who
comes back, knocks it over the end like cornerkick for
Saint Louis. Sounders need to see out this final ninety seconds.

(01:27:01):
Get into the locker room. I'll certainly be happy with
the possession and the manner in which they've controlled the game,
but it's all the important goals on the board that
the Sounders are trailing. Now. It's gonna be a corner
kick on Saint Louis his right.

Speaker 22 (01:27:15):
Hand side tick to the final minute.

Speaker 3 (01:27:19):
It's gonna be Heartle on their right with an outswinger
with his right foot.

Speaker 22 (01:27:24):
It was Levin on the left. This time it's going
to be Heartle.

Speaker 3 (01:27:27):
On their right. Big men are up and Kessler Hebert
Horn bare comes in headed down across the eighty six
yard box, picked up by step Fanfrou rolls it out
quickly to Rothrock and this near side of the right
he's going to roll it down the right hand side
picked up by Georgie, just gets nudged over. No feul

(01:27:49):
given again by the referee. I think the players need
to take a breath as well. I think game of
patience right now. The referee is not giving anything. Peewing, no, no.

Speaker 4 (01:27:57):
Getting out of this half one zero down, it would
be good. They've looked very dangerous when they go forward,
they look dangerous on restarts. So I'm with you, get
to get to the locker room, keep it at one
zero and then regroup. We do need to get that
ball to heyesus.

Speaker 3 (01:28:16):
All the top of the box with heartle turns away
from pressure the outside, his foot rolls in goold step
by Alex rold On just such a good job reading
the game and the play as Georgie just wriggles away
from Vallum run from the Sounder's bench as t shirt
pulls Alex rold On buck asking for something more than
just a free kick. It was a cynical foul in
some ways. Yes, he was deep in the Sounders defensive

(01:28:38):
half of the field.

Speaker 21 (01:28:39):
So.

Speaker 3 (01:28:40):
It's happened a couple of times to tchirs come across
and try to break up those attacks. So there's a
referee whistle.

Speaker 22 (01:28:46):
To bring this first half to a close and for.

Speaker 3 (01:28:49):
The Sounders they dominate a possession, but they went behind
in the fifteenth minute with an Edward Levin free kick
from twenty five yard dipped over the wall.

Speaker 22 (01:28:59):
Stefan Fry had no chance. Pete fewing your.

Speaker 4 (01:29:01):
Final thoughts, well, some good things from the Sounders. I
want to see them get Ferrera the ball in a
more dangerous position. Seattle's going to have to match the
physicality that Saint Louis has brought. They've got a little
grit to them. Restarts very important. Let's get Paul Rothrock
involved so that he can start running at people down
that right hand side. Keep getting the ball to Georgia,
but let's get some numbers inside the box.

Speaker 3 (01:29:23):
We'll take a short break, Jackson felt Diego Arioha. We'll
be back to break it all down at halftime. Here
it energize at park in downtown Saint Louis. It's Saint

Now time for the Sounders FC halftime show.

Speaker 2 (01:32:00):
Forty five minutes in the books in Saint Louis. Your
Sounders are down one to nothing. They are down because
of a fifteenth minute free kick goal by Edward Leevin.
A yellow card to Jackson Reagan. He slipped, he fell
on the ball. He kind of the ball kind of
whether it rolled into his left arm or whether he
grabbed it with his left arm. It hit his hand,

(01:32:21):
that drew a yellow card, That drew a free kick,
and Edward Leeuvin made them pay with a goal from
about twenty five yards out. Sounders looked better in the
last seven minutes, but they are down one nothing right now.
Tonight's match is presented by the Western Washington Toyota Dealers.
Jackson Feltz Diego AUDIOA here for the halftime show. You're
opening thoughts on the first forty five.

Speaker 6 (01:32:42):
It's been a tough first half.

Speaker 5 (01:32:45):
I think the Sounders, yeah, look way better, I think
more intense towards the end of the first half, but
they haven't figured it out right. How Saint Lewis is playing.
They're really solid, defensively organized, and they gave the ball
to the Sounders right and now, I mean it's not
about all possession. I think at the end of the day,
Saint Louis in the counter and the transition, they look
more dangerous and they don't know what to do. To me,

(01:33:07):
the Saunders, they've been exploiting that right wing. Jeorgiminingu's been
really active, he's been really good. But then on the
other wing there hasn't been pretty much any action. And
I think also one of the key things is that
Saint Louis gave basically the ball and there hasn't been
really like a midfield battle that I was expecting, But
I think Saint Louis has been pretty smart in terms of, Okay,
we're going to give the ball to the Saunders, let

(01:33:29):
them get frustrated, and then we're going to counter, and
so far they've been successful.

Speaker 2 (01:33:33):
I feel like that midfield battle is absent because it
was an early one nothing game. If it's zero zero,
maybe you see more of that. But Saint Louis knows
how the Sounders play, they know how the Sounders are
going to attack. They're missing Pedro Dale like they're missing
Jordan Morris, so it's a little bit easier to just
seed possession. And as we see, you know here on
the stats right behind you, Sounders have sixty five percent

(01:33:53):
right now, that's you know, ten above that that magic
number of fifty five. The brunch Mets are like so much,
but it's just it's possession with a purpose. And the
purpose right now is Georgie running at defenders. But other
than that, it's a little bit absent from the Sounders
right now. And the big question is how do you
change things up and how do you find that that

(01:34:15):
last little bit and find the activity outside of Georgia
manoon Because he's doing a lot right now. We aren't

Speaker 3 (01:38:06):
You know, we look at the bench.

Speaker 2 (01:38:07):
There isn't too much firepower for Freddy Warres, who is
the head coach tonight. With Brian Scheitzer not traveling with
the team due to illness. We hope he has a
speedy recovery. But Freddy Warre is coaching and there isn't
too much firepower there, diego. But what are your keys
to the how the Sounders can score a goal and
come away on the.

Speaker 3 (01:38:24):
Road with a point.

Speaker 5 (01:38:25):
Yeah, I mean, considering with all the injuries that Sounders have,
the firepower that i'd see on the bench. I mean,
you have Danny Mussovski, a dynamic player that you can
actually bring in and actually leave Ferreira on the field
like sitting in bag more like as a number ten.
And then you can even even put Christian Rodane on

(01:38:46):
the On the other left wing, I haven't seen. I mean, besides,
Jergman Ingwa has done a great job on the right,
but I think Freddy Warris has to be created because
there's not a lot of options, and we need to
also exploit more that left wing that it hasn't been
basically it's been absent right and I haven't seen. Also
a lot of factory from Albert Rossnick and maybe put
him more back in the middle where he's more comfortable.
So I do see some lineup changes and maybe yeah

(01:39:10):
than he could be Mutsovski. Joe Paula could come in
as well at some point. But the possession is already there.

Speaker 3 (01:39:16):
Got to just execute.

Speaker 5 (01:39:16):
Got actually you need to finish and finalize and create
more opportunity opportunities because so far there's been a few
crosses from Minongu, but the defense it has been pretty
solid from somebody.

Speaker 3 (01:39:27):
We need a lot better execution here.

Welcome back Sounders fans to and it joins the park
in downtown Saint Louis Is. The lights flash before the
teams come out for this second half. The Sounders trailing
one goal to nil here in Saint Louis as a
fifteenth minute goal by their number ten Evid Leven from
about twenty five yards out just dip the ball over

(01:43:10):
the wall. Didn't give Sefron frying Goal a chance to
make the save. But the Sounders have dominated possession. They're
in their high sixties percent range throughout that first half,
so possessions not.

Speaker 22 (01:43:22):
The issue is just how can we test Ben Lunt.

Speaker 3 (01:43:26):
The goalkeeper for Saint Louis who had to step in
last minute for Roman Burke who fractured his hand by
all accounts yesterday in the final practice before the game
was tested and had to step away.

Speaker 22 (01:43:39):
So the player of.

Speaker 3 (01:43:40):
The Match day last week in MLS after his eight
save game against La Galaxy in their three zerol win,
steps aside and the Sounders now, I've got forty five
minutes to find themselves back in this game. As Rosnak
gets us going, rolls it all the way back to
Jonathan Bell, so he launches the ball forward in their
anniversary kit green shirts, blue shorts, white Sox. They're attacking

(01:44:04):
the goal to our left and then Saint Louis in
their all red kit tonight their traditional or red kit
red is blasted around the stadium. They're attacking the goal
to our right. So no changes for the Sounders coming
into this first half, So the second half we'll see
what kind of changes Freddy and the coaching staff makes

(01:44:27):
a reminder Brian Schmitzer his home today. Ill wasn't able
to make the trip, so his very capable staff are
going to be filling in for him. Freddi Warez, of course,
has been a head coach in MLS with RSL before
he joined the Sounders, but his farrera can he find
his first goal for the sound as an MLS to
Georgie inside the box Ry inside double team has to

(01:44:48):
go back to Vargas, who's been a little quite in
that first half. We get him more involved in the
attacking half of the field. Rolled art Christian Roldan tries
to guide it in the top corner. Can't do much
of that. It goes over the top. Goalkick for Saint Louis.
Let's get you that line up. Stefan fryin Gola back
three of Reagan Bell and Knew who Alex rolled on

(01:45:10):
the right, Paul Rothrock and left Christian rolled down alongside
Obed in the middle of the park. Georgia Muan and
go Heyesus Farrera, Albert Roznak or you're attacking three for
all left Melbourg and his Saint Louis team London goal
like four of Horn, Hebert Kessler, Totland midfield, three of Dirkin,
Leven Wattson attacking three of two Shirt Hotel and Vaalen.

(01:45:30):
But let's get you back top of the boxes for Rara.
Just ball pops up on his right hand. It's going
to be a free kick just outside the eighteen yard
box for Saint Louis.

Speaker 22 (01:45:41):
Humball given on Ferreira. But Pete, let me get to you.

Speaker 3 (01:45:43):
You're a You've been in the locker room many times
as a coach and also as a player. What's Freddy
said to his team at halftime to kind of find
a way back into this game?

Speaker 15 (01:45:54):
And I think.

Speaker 4 (01:45:54):
That's I think it's important to get the least start
to pick up and and we'd start getting stuck in
on this game. And we've seen it already. Paul Rothrock
twice has gotten stuck in and it's created two different
chances for the Sounders in the first two minutes, and
he looks different in the first two minutes than he
did in the entire forty five minutes. So I think
there was I think Precky got after him, I think

(01:46:16):
in a good way, saying come on, you guys, we're
in a battle. We got to match him for effort.
So I don't think anybody's getting screamed out, but I
do think that they're pushing him to match the physicality
that Saint Louis has brought and a little more urgency.
So they and they look at they look the part
right now.

Speaker 3 (01:46:30):
Yep, Sounders have looked good out there, but between the
eighteen and eighteen it's been solid. Just either side of
the eighteen, the Sounders, I'm being able to capitalize some
of that pressure in possession. But here comes Georgie. Can
he wriggle free?

Speaker 7 (01:46:45):
Nope?

Speaker 4 (01:46:45):
Three men right there, right, They've.

Speaker 22 (01:46:47):
Done the homework.

Speaker 3 (01:46:48):
They've figured out Georgie. You know, he's such an enigma,
but now he's a known quantity. We talked about. Rothrock,
of course, came onto the cens last year, got five goals.
Now the defenders have kind of figured out how to
play against him. So it's gonna be the of both
roth Rock on the left, who was quite in that
first half as he was against LAFC and Georgie of
course now having to figure out and play through teams.

Speaker 22 (01:47:08):
That now suss them out.

Speaker 4 (01:47:09):
Yeah, and that situation. If Georgie plays a quick one
too and takes off down the line, he's going to
find He's going to find some success, but he's one
against three. Is tough.

Speaker 3 (01:47:21):
Step in by Totland on the right hand side, this
near side of the right as Saint Louis.

Speaker 22 (01:47:26):
Tap the goal to our right. His love and goal
score rules.

Speaker 3 (01:47:28):
If from center far side the left to Vallum closed
down by Alex Roldan, drops his left shoulder, comes on
his right foot head to clear by Jonathan Bell top
of the box.

Speaker 22 (01:47:37):
Strike over the top by I think it was Jerkin.

Speaker 3 (01:47:40):
It's over twenty two yards hour or so, strikes it
over the second Fricet crossfak goalkick here in the early
minutes of the second half and energize a park downtown
Saint Louis Sports Radio nine to fifty k am sounders
trailing one goal to nil against Saint Louis and it's
not a place they've been too often against Saint Louis

(01:48:00):
four wins out of their first four games against each
other in MLS play, Saint Louis haven't earned a point
against the Sounder. Sounders coming into this game had scored
nine only conceded one. So Saint Louis on the back
of three straight clean sheets to start off their campaign
five points from their first three games. Big win last

(01:48:22):
week was their first win under new head coach ol
of Melburg, who had mentioned as a stellar career playing
career both in Scandinavian and across Europe aston Villa, Juventus,
Villarial Copenhagen and then went into the coaching ranks about
ten years or so ago. Started with a small small

(01:48:43):
club just outside Stockholm in the third division at the time,
got them promotion in his first year as champs, and
then straight after that it got them promotion again to
get them into the first division of the Swedish football structure.
A little time getting his coaching batches. Now he's got
a chance now to showcase his skill set on MLS

(01:49:05):
his first season in charge of Saint Louis first season
in MLS as head coach, I like.

Speaker 4 (01:49:11):
His trajectory, and I like that he had those clubs
and then took a couple of years to go and
get his licenses. He looks like a player's coach, like
Brian Schweitzer, and now you want to play for and
battle for and he's also done it, So that's that's
a good one as well.

Speaker 3 (01:49:23):
Picked off by Saint Louis, a little step over by
Wheresident well played by Alex Roldan. He's really looking sharp
in these early weeks of the season. On that right
hand side, managed to break up the attack. Both finds
Rothrock on this near side the left cut back by
Vargas sound as playing a little pep in their steps.
The referee now cause a foul on Totland as rothro
trying to make a run in behind Totland that wrapped

(01:49:45):
him up. What do you make the referee performance so far?
Let things go, Pete, but it feels like he's gotta
be careful not to let this thing go too much
and let things get out of hand.

Speaker 4 (01:49:55):
Yeah, I agree with you, Danny. Yeah, And this is
a good example right here. That should have been a
car It was definitely deliberate taking Paul to the ground
as he was running by Totland. He's been consistent, but
I agree with you. I felt there's moments where it
started to get especially on restarts and all the jostling
and body you know, pushing and shoving inside the box.

(01:50:16):
So he can't let it go too far.

Speaker 3 (01:50:18):
One point to make it was Jordan Morris last week
that got to eighty seven goals to get to number one.
Christian rolled On gets his three hundred and fifty third
all Comp game today, passes Zach Scott. Congratulations to Christian
rolled On, just an ever present in the Sounders since
he stepped in alongside Ozzie Alonzo all those years ago.

Speaker 22 (01:50:39):
You got to think the way that he looks after
his body is going.

Speaker 3 (01:50:42):
To be here for many, many more years.

Speaker 4 (01:50:43):
Oh, I would agree. I would agree.

Speaker 3 (01:50:47):
It comes too Shit rolls the ball into Totland fans
from his right back spot, comes in towards his left
foot top of the box closed down by Rothrock to
nerve and strikes a good block by a combination of
Neuho and Bell. Ricochet's out to Dirk and it rolls
the ball out to this near side, the right to
two shirt closed down by Knew who Both players kind
of coming together. Good defending by new who rows the

(01:51:07):
ball to Stefan Freed goalkick. Sounders here in the fifty
third minute, Sounders trailing one goal to nil against Saint Louis,
and this score update is presented by Toyota Danny.

Speaker 4 (01:51:18):
My player to watch was Jonathan Bell. He's done a
great job. He's looked the part. He's blocked a few times.
He's been good under pressure with the ball.

Speaker 3 (01:51:25):
It comes Georgie in behind. Is he broken the off
side trap? Nothing given so far by the assistant referee,
cuts it towards his left foot. Good defending by Saint Louis.
He goes cal Hebert comes back. Good defending. Now the
red shirt's all the way back. The ball gets floated
from the far side, headed down strike, asking for a handball.

(01:51:45):
Referees given nothing so far. Was Ruza came flashing in
to try and make the connection with his head, didn't
make the connection, Maybe he wanted it, ask for a handball,
nothing given by the referee so far.

Speaker 4 (01:51:59):
I feel like we've lift at a bet. I think
they've responded to what the coaches have said. Paul Rothrock
looks more engaged and they're also matching the physicality a bit.

Speaker 3 (01:52:07):
We're talking at the halftime break, Pete, that you know
they've leaned so much on their defensive record of the
last couple of years. Number one in MLS in the
last two years. It was tied with Nashville in twenty
twenty three. Last year standing on their own with thirty
five goals against. It's not been the case this year.
They've had a lot of work done on the practice
field and during pre season was on the offensive third
of the field. We've seen that, we've seen the benefit

(01:52:28):
of that. Of course they've looked sharp in possession, scored goals,
but offensively right now, seven goals giving up in the
first four games, it's not the defensive foundation that want
to have.

Speaker 4 (01:52:39):
Wait and of those seven, i'd say four.

Speaker 3 (01:52:41):
Ball comes in headed clear gets You're coming in a minute, Pete.
As the ball gets cleared up and there's one of
those store works in the back at MLS Defender of
the Year candidate Jackson Reagan it Rosnick trust to roll
it in. But as the goals over the inline for
a goalkick, sounders training one there. Let's get back to
your thoughts. Defensively looks a little shaky at times, but
the goal have been preventable very much.

Speaker 4 (01:53:02):
So at least four come to mind, two of those
being own goals, and maybe five where we've just switched
off for a moment. Actually, I think almost every single
goal that we've given off, I think the players would
raise their hand and say that was an error. The
own goals they happen, you catch a guy on the
wrong foot, but there's been quite a few that we

(01:53:24):
could have done better with the goal today Jackson Reagan
is unfortunately he slips and puts his hand on the
ball and it's just a tremendous free kick for a goal.
So that's the difference right now, and that's an avoidable mistake.
So not our typical sharpness at the back that we've seen,
but a lot of it's been preventable.

Speaker 3 (01:53:42):
Fifty fifth minute ball goes over talk Georgie's broken the line,
Hey come and says London does read it well in
the system referees flag eventually goes up on the farst
side having a go at. Georgia maybe left his right
foot in as the goalkeeper came out a full right
to go after that ball. Does young Georgie Mnonga of
course been new Dead as of last week. As looks

(01:54:05):
there maybe just half a.

Speaker 22 (01:54:06):
Yard off side.

Speaker 3 (01:54:07):
On the replay, Pete goalkeeper I think over wrapped a
little bit.

Speaker 4 (01:54:12):
Georgie did put his foot in there, but there's nothing close.
Nothing too close for professional athletes.

Speaker 3 (01:54:18):
It comes a Sounders now got a bit between their tea,
trying to find this equalizing goal here in Saint Louis,
and they're realizing they can't rely on the defense.

Speaker 22 (01:54:25):
They've got to find a goal to get themselves back
in the game.

Speaker 3 (01:54:27):
It comes rolled on right corner of the box, goes
back to his brother Christian. One touch ball to Jackson.
Reagan finds Georgie Mununger far side the right. He's gotta
clip it in with his right foot, finds Farrera, tries
to knock the ball down. Vogas made a running behind
or dropped down clear by Saint Louis, picked up by
the Sounders. This near side the left is new who
asking for help, rolls it square, sent to the park

(01:54:48):
to Christian, rolled on, keeps it going to the far side.
Jackson Reagan, events now supporting the attack, rolls it out
to Georgia Manunger right from the assistant referee far side
twelve yards or so from the end line to roll On,
clips it in, headed down by Kessler, picked up by Levin,
the goal scorer well defended by rolled On, picks it
up to Georgie Wriggles free of some pressure, clips the

(01:55:08):
ball to Alex rolled On. Can you finds some time
and space? Comes off Vallum for a corner kick for
the sound It's good early pressure in he's first eleven
minutes or so this second half. Sounders playing on the
front foot trying to find this equalizing goal.

Speaker 4 (01:55:22):
Pete feweing, Yeah, I'm much better quality and a little
more grit, and it feels like something's coming. That was
a good little combination play all around the park, probably fifteen.

Speaker 22 (01:55:32):
Passes, corner kick sounders one.

Speaker 3 (01:55:34):
I'm up in the air by Ruznek farst side, the
right outswinger with his right foot in. It comes towards Jackson,
Reagan can't quite get on it, headed across goal and
up and over eludes Georgi imanin and go on the
backstick by Christian Roldan, who's frustrated by that header.

Speaker 22 (01:55:50):
Felt like you could do more.

Speaker 3 (01:55:52):
It's gonna be a goalkick for Saint Louis. They continue
to lead here and energize apart one goal to Nils
are knocking well.

Speaker 4 (01:56:01):
I like the idea. I like the idea from this
one with Christian trying to find Georgie at the back post,
Ferrera a moment Ago with his back to two goal
inside the six trying to lay a ball off. So
Seattle's trying to create opportunities. And again Danny, I feel
like something's coming.

Speaker 3 (01:56:19):
Let's get you the Sounders bench. No changes so far
for Freddie Warez, course branch Metz.

Speaker 22 (01:56:24):
At home, ill can't make the trip.

Speaker 3 (01:56:27):
Danni Massovski scored a goal in midweek against Pumas, his
first goal of his twenty to twenty five season. Andrew
Thomas Shaopaolo, Danny Laver, Trevin Sosa, Cody Baker, Hawkins Castro
as a second goalie purely for numbers reasons, and then
Koloney Coosa Rienzi, the new man signed his contract last year,

(01:56:48):
got a goal against l EFC. He's on the bench
and an option for the coaching staff. Can they find
a way back into this game? As we hit the
fifty ninth minute, plenty of time left, just over thirty
minute so so of the ninety to go as Jonathan
Bell former Saint Louis man hooks the ball forward and
headed down by I think he was Levin trying to

(01:57:10):
cushion the ball back to Totland goes out in this
near size. It's going to be a throwing I think,
and then see if the referee calls it back.

Speaker 4 (01:57:20):
We just got to get on the same page as
a good ball wide. Albert Rusnik was about ten yards
out and the center of the goal, and I think
Georgie wanted to make that run. He makes that run,
gets inside. It's just going to get on the same page.

Speaker 3 (01:57:33):
Well. Tonight's match is presented by the Western Washington Toyota
Dealers tick towards a sixty minute mark, Sounders trailing one
goal to nil in the score up that is presented
by Toyota or center of the park picked up by
Dirk and no real pressure finds the foot of Watts

(01:57:54):
to Heartle rolls the ball out to the far side
the left to a Vallum closed down by Alex Roldan
and he was a good save in the end by
cepan Fry through traffic. It came low doowns was right.
He had to go and managed to crawl claw the
ball out from the right corner of the goal, saved

(01:58:14):
his team conceding a second on the night.

Speaker 4 (01:58:17):
Yeah, there goes a great save. I love it when
a goalkeeper saves the ball behind him he's shifting to
his left. It goes near post to the right. It's
well hit. Steph makes a good recovery and clean hands.

Speaker 3 (01:58:28):
Georgie Man, I'm ask him for a free kick from
Levin didn't get it, knew he had a chance to
go through a player on a tackle. Back in the day, Pete,
you'd go right through and there. But I feel like
it's probably a given yellow card in this day and age. Yeah,
it's pulled out, but sounds right to make a state
that was a statement tackle there back in the.

Speaker 4 (01:58:48):
Day, spoken like a true center back.

Speaker 3 (01:58:51):
I think my first game for the sound Is in
preseason was against c LU. I think I got a
red card against you and you were coaching it's Jake Pazzagno, yes,
and then my last game for the Sounder is in Montreal.
Red card red cards.

Speaker 22 (01:59:07):
Yeah, consistent become the Sounders.

Speaker 3 (01:59:11):
Can they find themselves in the game sixty minute mark?
Now thirty minutes ago of the nineties Sounders trailing one
goal to nil in possession, and they've been dominating possession
sixty eight percent possession for the Sounders throughout this game.
Or goes into Georgie top of the box to Frera.
Can he finally tries to curl it, find that far corner,
goes wide. We'll frustrating nights. So far for Ferrera, it's

(01:59:32):
been a game of half chance. He's trying to find
pockets of space. Look down on that monitor here, Pete.
Just that replay from Stephan Fries.

Speaker 4 (01:59:40):
Save great hands, terrific hands right there. Good for Steph.
You play with Zach Scott. How would you feel about
Christian breaking his record?

Speaker 22 (01:59:52):
You know, I'm sure he's obviously it's gonna happen.

Speaker 3 (01:59:54):
Yeah, you know, there's I mean, the question is is
more so about kind of Jordan's wrecker and then Christian's
record that will be continuing to be adding to these games.

Speaker 22 (02:00:04):
Of course, Stephen Fry has got a ton of games
as well.

Speaker 3 (02:00:06):
You know, how many times are they gonna be players
in the future who are going to be a one
club type of player Because Christian Roldan and Jordan Morris
have signed long term contracts a year or two ago,
think five year contracts for both of them. It's going
to push towards the end of their career. And in
this day and age we now transfers between teams in league.
If the player steps up and does well, most likely

(02:00:27):
he's going to get borught. If we think about vander
for twelve million, that's gone to Cincinnati. So a couple
of changes for Saint Louis. Two shit goes off, Simon
Betcher comes on form. Vancouver white Caps man Freda Morales,
former New York City men came in in trial in
the preseason, got a contract. It comes on, and Joseph

(02:00:48):
Yarra coming on as well as Edward Levin goalscorer trudges off.
A little bit disappointment and frustration I think from both players.
We saw two shirt slamming a water bottle down on leven.
Not too pleased either coming off the field, but done
their job. Good strong bench for Earlef Melburg. So Saint

(02:01:12):
Louis making their moves. Pete solidifying and get some new energy,
some new legs out there.

Speaker 22 (02:01:17):
Sounders, what do they have to do?

Speaker 4 (02:01:18):
What can they do?

Speaker 3 (02:01:19):
What do they have coming off that bench. It's a
little light with these injuries. Talked about Della Vega being out,
We talked about, of course Jordan Morris being out. Of
course ariol is so sadly getting his ACU tearring's acl
have to go through surgery in the coming weeks. He's
of course out. We've got read Baker Whiting still out.
We got Jamar out on personal reasons. We'll be back
with the team next week. Can Ky He still coming

(02:01:40):
back to full fitness. So what was a really deep
bench just a week or so ago, a few days ago.
It's now a bit of a struggle to kind of
figure out what the move is to change his game around.

Speaker 4 (02:01:49):
You know, I wonder if they'll look at Colony coming
in for Georgie. Right, normally Colonie would be where Alex
Wildan is, but Alex is doing a great job there
and Colonie as a university watch and Husky played higher
up the field, so he could handle that. But he
could bring a spark, JP could bring something. Although I
think Christian Anne Obit have both had really solid games

(02:02:10):
to this point, so I think a little more quality Danny.
I think that's the bottom line. Is can Seattle find
a little more quality?

Speaker 3 (02:02:18):
Was that loose touch by Vargas and he stepped in
and took down Vallum and got a yellow card?

Speaker 4 (02:02:24):
And it feels like I disagree with that.

Speaker 22 (02:02:26):
Yeah, that's soft based on the way that the game
is being reffed.

Speaker 3 (02:02:29):
Yeah, six of one, half a dozen of the others.
They say he.

Speaker 4 (02:02:32):
May may be trying to tighten things up, like you
and I spoke a minute ago, so it doesn't get
out of hand. But that did not look and there
was no intent from Vargas, and I don't think he
got him too much. And as a matter of fact,
the player went down, didn't complain.

Speaker 22 (02:02:46):
Varira goes off.

Speaker 3 (02:02:49):
A little frustrating for Ferira didn't get really the joy
he was hoping for and they attacking third of the field.
Danny Musofsky's coming on the field. Can he change things around?
Can they find a little spark by Danny Mussovski of course,
had goals before he came into the Sounders.

Speaker 22 (02:03:07):
Somewhat disappointing first.

Speaker 3 (02:03:08):
Season really in terms of gold production for Dann Massovski's
certainly in MLS. Got some goals in the US Open
Cup run of course, Hopefully that goal in midweek gets
them off the mark and gets some confidence going. Here
is Simon Betcher twenty five yards out right side at
the eighteen yard box, tries to wriggle free good defended
by Rothrock. So BET's put on some pounds and looks

(02:03:29):
stronger than he was, certainly in Vancouver.

Speaker 22 (02:03:31):
And play it down. Good to see who that.

Speaker 3 (02:03:35):
Is Totland maybe holding his right knee. I'm quite sure
what happened there, Pete.

Speaker 22 (02:03:45):
We'll take a look.

Speaker 3 (02:03:45):
But in terms of the moves, we see Musofsky come
on the field, Farrera come off the field and make
it that change. I'm sure Ferrera's feeling a little disappointment.
Fresh into the team, fresh into the club, wants to
make a mark. Doesn't quite hit the ground running so far.

Speaker 4 (02:04:00):
No, he put himself in good spots, didn't quite get
the service that I bet he would have liked. It
was on the ball quite a bit. He did well
with his back to the goal, but it wasn't ever
ever really in a position to get his shot off.
There was the one time Georgie took a shot from
twenty five yards out, Ferrera was on the right with
a lot of room. That would have been a great
opportunity and would have suited his skill set to put

(02:04:21):
that one away. So yeah, I think you're right. I
think you'll be a little bit disappointed with it. Although
he did get he did get himself on the ball,
but not maybe as much as he would have liked.

Speaker 3 (02:04:32):
Well, we're looking at Totland down getting some attention. It
was a run that he was making through the middle
of the park, pulled up, he looks like he's struggling
on the essentially pulled a hamstring, but maybe his knee. Well,
Saint Louis have made three stubs already in one go,
so they got some space and time to make a
change for Totland.

Speaker 4 (02:04:53):
Similar facial expression to when Jordan Morris pulled up with
his hamstring. You just know exactly yep, yeah, And he's
limping off the field, similar to how Jordan.

Speaker 3 (02:05:04):
Did as Totland makes his way off the field. We'll
just say that this copyrighted audio cast of Major League
Soccer may not be retransmitted, reproduced, or rebroadcast without the
express written consent of.

Speaker 22 (02:05:19):
Major League Soccer.

Speaker 3 (02:05:20):
Next week, Sounders back home next Saturday against the Houston
Dynamo under ben Olsen. Of course, Sounders had some MLS
playoff experience against Houston just a couple of months ago.
Totland comes off, tough break for the young player.

Speaker 22 (02:05:41):
Thomas Erstrakt comes on.

Speaker 3 (02:05:43):
The field like for like switch Saint Louis Bill sounds
training one goal to nil here sixty seventh minute. Then
Namasofsky on Ferrera off. That's the move that Freddie Warres
has made so far. Branch bets A at home, just
recovering from some illness, wasn't able to travel with the team.

(02:06:05):
Jonathan Bell rolls it in, breaks the line. Good ball,
He comes Musofsky all on his own. Can he make
something happens? Rowthrope plays it in towards Rowthorp inside the
six yard. I was a little delayed by the path
for Mussovsky.

Speaker 22 (02:06:15):
It's gonna be a corner kick.

Speaker 3 (02:06:17):
Rowthorpe was screaming for the ball on the left inside.
Mussovski eventually played it to him. It allowed Wat's to
get back and really kind of snuffed out that chance.
Good look here on the replay pee fore In.

Speaker 4 (02:06:28):
Yeah, a great run from Paul he did. He wanted
that ball about ten yards earlier, and he's pretty uh.

Speaker 3 (02:06:38):
All comes in headed up in a way by Betcher
inside his six yard box from the corner kick.

Speaker 4 (02:06:44):
Paul was pretty clear that he wanted that ball much earlier,
and Massovsky I I wouldn't have been surprised if he
took the shot himself. He seemed to have a pretty
good room and I like to see him running. That
little play for Danny may get him more involved into
the game, but he had he had. It's a great
run from Rothrock, well timed.

Speaker 3 (02:07:03):
Sounders building out of the beck, still dominating possessions sixty
five percent possession now adding the shots on as well,
nine shots to Saint Louis's seven, Sounders trading one goal
to nil nine fIF am, have you listening to us?
Thanks for joining Sounders, but a really promising start to
their campaign in terms of performances. Now as about getting
results on the board. Can then build off that five

(02:07:25):
to two win against l EFC last week. Here they
are thirty yards from goal right if left of center,
All's out to the left hand side to Rothrock goes
across the six punch clear by London a chancer bring
it into his chest decided on the punch.

Speaker 4 (02:07:40):
Lack of confidence from the goalkeeper right there and boy
a slashing run. That was a good ball from Paul.
You could see that he was going to hit it
first time. That's where you just got to make that
near post run.

Speaker 3 (02:07:50):
Sounders have it right of center, goes to the far side,
the right to Georgie. Mining are getting a bit more
of the ball now with some time and space. As
Hartele comes back to support, ball comes in heady clear
by he got substitute Yarra, flicked up in the air
by New headed clear by Morales, headed down by New.
Who retains possession is Albert Rosneck for the Sounders. Sounders
in their anniversary kid attacking the goal to our left.

(02:08:14):
They've got a week to prepare for next week, but
now they've got to find a way back into this game.
Ball gets deflected towards that air posts. Lunch smothers the ball,
brings it into his chest, gets a fist bump from
his back line. Again, we mentioned four games played before
tonight in his MLS career eleven goals giving up. So
what a stellar record for Ben Lunt.

Speaker 4 (02:08:35):
Now you could feel on that last one where he
punched it out you thought he was good to scoop
that up hold onto the ball, so keep putting pressure
on him. Sounders look a little better, Danny. There's a
little more urgency and they're creating a little more quality.
Keep getting that ball to Paul Rothrock. He said two
crosses in the last minute and both have been quality.

Speaker 3 (02:08:54):
It's gonna make the runs now, we've seen that in
games past. Is that ball has been delivered at times
in areas. Just got to make that run, make that
take that chance to jump in front of the defender.
He might not always get it right, Pete, but if
you get one out of ten, you've got a chance
to score the goal.

Speaker 22 (02:09:08):
It's all you need.

Speaker 4 (02:09:09):
Absolutely, absolutely, If if he gets always thought six was
the magical number you'd get, you'd get something out of
six crosses.

Speaker 3 (02:09:18):
Sounders have the ball fast side the right with per
half Jackson making per half. There you will flick around
the corner to George. A good step by. I think
it's Kessler stepped in, drives forward, picked up by rolled on,
good defending his rugby tackles rolled on. How is that
not a yellow card? Referees eventually calls it back. Yep,
simple yellow card by Kessler. It's done that a couple
of times with Ferrera in the first half. I knew

(02:09:42):
he had rolled On at the batter of him just
stepped in front of Kessler. Really good play by Christian
rolled On. And there's three hundred and fifty third game
for the Sounders, Kessel just rugby tackles, good open field tackle. Yeah,
kind of Saint Louis missing the Rams of course a
handful of years ago to go to La good.

Speaker 22 (02:10:03):
That was very given.

Speaker 3 (02:10:04):
That little that was good. Yeah, I don't know where
that came from.

Speaker 22 (02:10:06):
Wasn't on my notes.

Speaker 4 (02:10:07):
Yeah, and you're not from these parts this country, so
you don't know how did he know?

Speaker 21 (02:10:13):
Yeah?

Speaker 4 (02:10:13):
That was good.

Speaker 3 (02:10:15):
When I was in college and a guy asked me
what sport I played, and I told him I played football,
He looked.

Speaker 22 (02:10:20):
At me up and down.

Speaker 3 (02:10:21):
He just shook his head.

Speaker 22 (02:10:22):
I was like, oh, no, no English football. Christian Roldan
goes down.

Speaker 3 (02:10:29):
Hopefully it's nothing too serious that the injury bug is
starting to hit as he holds his knee. It was
an awkward challenge by Kessler, completely unnecessary, and no player
to injure any other player, especially a player like rolled
On who's just so well respected around the league. But
he's going to get some treatment from Chris Cornish and

(02:10:51):
the medical staff.

Speaker 4 (02:10:53):
Danny, I think we're on about eight game and twenty four.

Speaker 3 (02:10:57):
Days, so it's head left for these boys.

Speaker 4 (02:11:00):
And with all the travel as well.

Speaker 3 (02:11:02):
Yeap of course, played LFC five to two win last
Saturday in Seattle and then jumped on a plane the
following day to go down to Mexico play against Cruises
all on Tuesday, jump back on the plane to come
back and travel again yesterday into Saint Louis. We'll hop
back on a plane tonight right from the game, come
home at least they can sleep in their own bed,

(02:11:24):
and then sure Brian and the coaching staff will give
them a couple of days off just to recoup and
then back on the training field. And Freddie Warez was
talking Pete about how much the coaching staff is looking
forward to getting the players back on a field again,
on the practice field to kind of work through certain
things because it's all hypothetical some ways, because you have
to work it off a board or a video screen

(02:11:46):
in terms of what they want to implement, but it's
always good to be able to get on the practice field.
You look at rolled down just kind of running a
little bit gingerly. Now, just try to shake off whatever
knock he had. Chris Connis did the test, so hopefully
it's nothing more than a little bit of pain to
work through.

Speaker 4 (02:12:00):
That is something he's used to. Yeah, getting into a
rhythm of training once again very important.

Speaker 3 (02:12:05):
Here's where o'sneck left of center, good, thirty five to
forty yards from gold. Chance to put the ball into
the box. Ball comes in good delivery, headed away by
Yar or picked up top of the box by Georgie.
Strikes the ball does his acred deflection, yes, it does.
Corner kick for the Sounders getting in the seventy fourth minute,
Sounds trailing one goal to Nill against Saint Louis. But

(02:12:26):
they are knocking on the door. You need to find
just a good quality chance or Soda tess Lund get
themselves right back in this game.

Speaker 4 (02:12:33):
There's a great ball from Russneck and Georgie you're just
not afraid to take a shot. He's kind of going
away from the goal, going across the edge of the
box a little maybe twenty two yards out, still taking
his chance and we get the corner out of it.

Speaker 3 (02:12:47):
Fifth going for the Sounders, arm up in the air
from the right side, whipped in towards the penalty spot.

Speaker 22 (02:12:52):
Headed clear by Hebert, while.

Speaker 3 (02:12:54):
Good defending by the Saint Louis bat line as they
step up.

Speaker 22 (02:12:57):
Hold the top of the box.

Speaker 3 (02:12:58):
As roll Don has it it's near the left, just
clips it in, headed up and away by Saint Louis.
Again headed down by Christian Roldan looks to be okay,
even though sil nursing that leg a little bit.

Speaker 22 (02:13:10):
We'll see if the coaches have to make a change.

Speaker 3 (02:13:12):
Of course, you've got JP, You've got Danny Lavor so
certainly likeful like switches the level of play. You know,
it's hard to replace Christian rolled on, but two great
replacements potentially for Freddie Warres to pull into this game.

Speaker 22 (02:13:28):
Danny Labor played so well.

Speaker 3 (02:13:29):
Steve's i Quani mentioned it in his podcast how much
he thought of his performance against l EFC. And of
course JP has felt like he's got a new lease
of life coming into preseason, fit, healthy, raring to go,
understands his role in the locker room this year and
his ability to step on the field and perform when
needed as what goes into rosneck laid back by.

Speaker 4 (02:13:49):
Knewho agreed with you. They've both done incredibly well. It
was at a game and went down on the field
after the press conference. I think it was about a
week and a half ago. Out there Danny, Lava and JP.

Speaker 22 (02:14:03):
It comes Georgie striding into the box.

Speaker 3 (02:14:04):
Bull fights where'sneck scuffs a shot so followed by Vargas,
couldn't get there. Cleared eventually by Saint Louis. Good touch
by Jackson rag and retains possession far side the right
to Alex.

Speaker 22 (02:14:15):
Rolled on down the line, he goes to Vargas.

Speaker 3 (02:14:17):
Cuts back towards his left foot. It's a couple of
yards from the indline. Right channel comes back to Alex,
who whips it in with his right foot, headed clear
by Yarrow, picked up by Jackson, Rigg and smooth and
calm on the boards. He retains possession with Bell clips
it from center. There's nearside the left Rothro has the
chance to bring it down, closed down by Watch, cuts

(02:14:38):
towards his right foot, whips it in across the six
yard box, headed clear by Saint Louis, brought down by
Bell and then knew who as he strides forward Betcher
to support down the line. It goes to Rothrock tries
to cut the ball back top of the box. No
one there, easily cleared by Heartle Porsche touched by Jonathan Bell.
Really the only thing has done wrong so this evening.

(02:15:01):
Jonathan Bell's the ball goes down this near side for
a Saint Louis throw.

Speaker 4 (02:15:05):
Yeah, Paul rothrock again another good quality cross. If I'm
the Sounders once he once that ball gets played, he's
hit three now, first time ball. We've got to get
numbers through the box. Just to finish that thought on
Danny Lava and JP Danny, I looked at my watch
and it was ten forty five at night, and they
were out training to make sure that they were sharp.
And then and then what we saw with them in

(02:15:25):
the center of the park together, that's where it pays off.
So I agree, Freddy. Freddy can put either one of
those guys on the field and help the team.

Speaker 3 (02:15:33):
It comes Erstrek send to the park, rolls and at
the right hand side to bet.

Speaker 22 (02:15:36):
You Saint Louis striding forward.

Speaker 3 (02:15:38):
Good delivery if by bet you just slashes across the
eighteen yard box. Heartle top of the box, finds Dirk
and strikes the ball. Choice to find that far top
corner goes wide and high goal kick Sounders here.

Speaker 22 (02:15:50):
In the seventy seventh minute.

Speaker 3 (02:15:52):
To tick towards the final ten minutes of this game,
sound is training one goal to nil against Saint Louis.
Saint Louis have never found a point against the Sounders,
never mind a win.

Speaker 22 (02:16:02):
They've never got a point from the Sounders.

Speaker 3 (02:16:04):
Four wins out of the previous four games, Sounders came
away with victory.

Speaker 22 (02:16:08):
Can they find a way back into this game?

Speaker 3 (02:16:10):
Top of the box is Vallum for Saint Louis as
they have possession now in the attacking third of the field,
finds Yaro came on the field for Horn on this
right hand side. As Sounders still have changes to make.
Let me change so far has been Danny Mussofski. Maybe
coach gotta play these players out. They know they're going

(02:16:30):
to get a good rest until next week's game, and
all they have to focus on until the Club World
Cup is MLS.

Speaker 22 (02:16:37):
No distraction of US.

Speaker 3 (02:16:38):
Open Cup this year, of course, played in Conkerkef Champions Cup.
Lost in midweeks Cruisers all in a two game playoff.
Now it's all gonna be about MLS and can they
find points on the board getting back in this game.
Here comes Morales, former New York City man US men's
national team player. Let's go around new who actual Jonathan

(02:17:01):
Bell came across the cross, goes out on this near
side for a Saint Louis throw.

Speaker 4 (02:17:06):
Well to your point now to focus only on MLS.
Last season, I remember Brian saying to both of us,
have you ever started a season one nine and two?
I think is what they were, and I think right
now we're one one and one when we can focus
on MLS. It'll be good timing for this squad. It's
tough to go out at Champions League, but I think
they've got to get on track with the regular MLS season.

Speaker 11 (02:17:28):
Well.

Speaker 3 (02:17:28):
Not a good sign to see Christian rold on his
six and three hundred and fifty third game. He comes
off the field, he went down for a moment, was
able to walk offers in Revolution. Danny Laver, as he mentioned,
strong performance against a LFC, really strong starts at his
campaign both preseason in the early stages of regular season.
He comes on the field like for like switch for

(02:17:50):
Danny Laver, and then Paul Rothrock comes on. He got
involved in that second half just like LFC quite first
half from Paul Rothrobert really got into the game in
the second half, wasn't able to find an assist or
a goal, but he gets replaced by Kerlaney. It looks
like Georgie's maybe shifted his left hand side Clonie on
the right hand side. Ball gets whipped along the six

(02:18:10):
good clearers by Jackson rag and just scoops it out
underneath the crossbar. Russneck rolls it out to this near
sight to Danny Leave rolls it down the line to
Georgia Kidning open up his legs a little bit outside
the foot.

Speaker 22 (02:18:22):
It goes to Massaski.

Speaker 3 (02:18:23):
Lun backs up, creates an angle support for the pass,
receives the ball as the goalkeeper for Saint Louis keeps
the ball going to the far side the left, He
but clips it down the line, picked up by the
Sounders and then misplayed by Jackson raing he needs to
get back into position, unnecessarily giving the ball away.

Speaker 22 (02:18:41):
It just allows Saint.

Speaker 3 (02:18:43):
Louis to take a breath as Vallin walks over to
pick it up far side the left. Saint Louis and
their Red Shirts Red Shorts Red Sox attacking the goal
to our right, leading one goal to nil. Here as
we get into the final ten minutes of the ninety,
all comes off betch it looks as an assistant referee
his flight came off fro amn off side position and
then picked off the cushion headed by Jackson Reagan. Referee

(02:19:06):
calls it. It's gonna be yellow.

Speaker 22 (02:19:07):
Cud, it's that best shit.

Speaker 3 (02:19:08):
Try to kick the ball away the nim give it
back and yeah, very simple yellow card from the referee,
because now the.

Speaker 22 (02:19:15):
Yellow cards started to add up.

Speaker 4 (02:19:16):
Pete, Yeah they are, and I think the referee is
a little frustrated with some of the antics of Saint
Louis and he's and he's letting them know. So you know,
Lundon just had a ball played to his feet. Danny
Missowski put pressure on him and he just played a
very kind of lacking confidence type of pass. We've got
to put him under as much pressure both with our
shots but also if he gets it at his feet,

(02:19:38):
he does not look like the composed goalkeeper. So Seattle's
got to keep keep putting him under as much pressure
as possible.

Speaker 3 (02:19:47):
Well, we hope Christian world On. It's just somewhat precautionary
We saw him go down to the deck again after
getting initial treatment forced him to come off, but he'd
pop up to his feet came off the field, So
hopefully that's not gonna be adding to the injury list
to the sound have already piled up over the last seven days,
as you mentioned De la Vega, Jordan Morris, Ariola, Yemar

(02:20:08):
missing for personal reasons, Readebaker, Whiting still out but back
of the practice field, maybe a couple of weeks away
from coming back. Or gets popped through the legs of
Kilane by Hartel but then given away. Sounders have possession
with Danny Lavor.

Speaker 22 (02:20:23):
Good step by.

Speaker 3 (02:20:26):
Vargas, he goes to the deck two footy, challenged by Morales,
long crowd like that new signing for Saint Louis.

Speaker 4 (02:20:34):
You can feel the energy's heightening. Last ten minutes.

Speaker 22 (02:20:38):
Five yellow carts in the game.

Speaker 3 (02:20:39):
So far, so well. Was not again that was call
particularly tight in the first half. Was now picked up
in terms of yellow card accumulation. Sounders continue to dominate
possession sixty five percent possession, but they need to turn
into chances and tests. Lunt Here comes Vargas, a clip
sitting to come off the hand Kessler. The back heel
by kla Arnie misplayed again by Jackson. Reagan steps in,

(02:21:03):
ball goes under his foot, it comes Bescher.

Speaker 22 (02:21:06):
Jonathan Bell clows.

Speaker 3 (02:21:08):
The ball down far side. Saint Louis has left as
we look at it as they attacked. The gold to
our right skips by Kolaney. You'll see if var says
something to the referee in his earpiece. The ball came
in from I think it was Vargas skipped upon his end,
but so far the referee has not done anything to

(02:21:28):
bring it back.

Speaker 22 (02:21:29):
Does Saint Louis have.

Speaker 3 (02:21:30):
It with Ustrecht goes all the way back to Kessler
sitting on a yellow card. Of course, it was his
collision with Christian rolled On that creates some injury to Christian.
Vallum goes around Alex rolled On. That's gonna be the
sixth yellow card of the game, the fourth yellow card

(02:21:50):
today for the Sounders. So it could be a little
bit careful as these yellow cars pile up in the
only parts of the season.

Speaker 22 (02:21:55):
But it was an easy one by the referee.

Speaker 4 (02:21:58):
Pet Fury, I agree.

Speaker 3 (02:22:02):
I think I know it's your your former player.

Speaker 4 (02:22:05):
I don't want to I don't want to throw him
under the bus. But yeah, Alex did get a hand
in there, but he did go down very easily on that,
And you're right. It's been interesting the adjustments the referees
made to being a little bit more disciplined with it
with the cards and then also calling a little bit
more of the fowls.

Speaker 3 (02:22:22):
Free kicked for Saint Louis fartside and there left just
a couple of yards off the touch line. It's just
clipped in towards the fastick, headed across by Kesler, headed
away by new bounced outside the box and headed up
and away by Rosnak, but picked up by Kessler, rolls
all the way back to Watts, goes square to yarrow,
just inside the Saint Louis half of the field and
their left hand side closed down by Danny laver Good

(02:22:45):
defending by Christian. Alex rolled on. He came across to
be throwing for Saint Louis and the far side there left.
They'll leave us at the end of the game, Jackson felt,
Diego Arioha and maybe Pete Fieing will jump back on
and have a word about this game. See how these
final five plus minutes go of the ninety.

Speaker 22 (02:23:05):
We'll see what the referee hads on.

Speaker 3 (02:23:07):
It was three minutes of the end of the first half,
and then a couple of other injuries and delays in
the second half. As the ball goes.

Speaker 22 (02:23:12):
Into Tusha, good saved by Fry.

Speaker 3 (02:23:15):
Rebound block by the Sounders, they need to clear their lines.
Well done by Georgie. Sounders breathe deeply, able to defend
their goal. Ball goes into Rosnack. Can The Sounders now
take advantage, go from defense to offense. Kiloni far side
the right, approaching the eighteen yard box. Red Shirts getting
back behind.

Speaker 22 (02:23:34):
The ball as Colonie slows the game down.

Speaker 3 (02:23:36):
Comes out to new who to Georgia this near side
the left getting double team drops his shoulder. A Restrek
comes across to help wats out. It comes back to Vargas,
square ball to Danny. Labor Is gonna clip it forward
towards Vargas and it clear by Yarrow inside the box.
It bounces hook clear by Kessler, picked up by Betcher,

(02:23:58):
who gets clattered into I knew who It's gonna be
a free kicked for Saint Louis.

Speaker 4 (02:24:04):
Good opportunity for Seattle going right at the back line
of Saint Louis. It has been end to end. Saint
Louis had a great chance, Frey comes up big, then
a big block from knew who and then off to
the races, one end to the other. Good for Georgie.
It's a ninety yard run from Georgie.

Speaker 3 (02:24:23):
Or your Seattle Sounders are back at home as you mentioned,
to take on Houston Dynamo FC on Saturday, March twenty
second at seven thirty pm Pacific. Watch the match via
the mL Season Pass on the Apple TV app and
listen on the Sounders FC radio stream channel on the
iHeartRadio app and l Ray thirteen sixty am. The Provident
Swedish pre match show starts at seven p m. Sounders

(02:24:44):
trailing here in the eighty six minute one goldenill against
Saint Louis. Saint Louis have never earned a point from
the Sounders. Are they going to find that first point today?
Or the sound is gonna be able to get themselves
back into this game? Can they get a well earned
and well needed point on the road four points from
two games at home lost against ourselves. Good ball by
Laver finds Klan. He cuts back onto his left foot

(02:25:08):
top of the box, rolls it's Danny Labor finds Obed Vargas,
who just skips it past, who closes down to George.
He's gonna clip it towards Danny Massosi can't get it
front out of miscontrolled by Klan. He picked up by
Alex Roldan right hand side of the eighteen yard box,
brings it down no real pressure from Vallum, closed down
by Hertel as well.

Speaker 22 (02:25:26):
The double team now Heartele moves away.

Speaker 3 (02:25:28):
Let's Alex Roldano one v one blocked over the end liners.
Vallum celebrates to the crown for that block. But it
does give sound As a chance for m Cornerckick a
little bit of quality.

Speaker 4 (02:25:41):
That's what we're lacking right now. They've created opportunities. Balls
have bounced not quite in the right spot for players.

Speaker 3 (02:25:48):
Sixth corner kick for the Sounders. This one is on
their right hand side and it's gonna be Resnik with
his right foot outswinging again, just loops towards Jackson rig
and heads it down. Cleared by Yarrow under pressure from
Jonathan Bell good cushion headed by Klan. He finds Raznak
again on the right channel, comes in towards his left
foot headed up and away by Saint Louis, who is

(02:26:11):
a clipped headed by Knew who now picked up by
that man who off Georgie. As Dirkin jumps up in
the air, ball goes back to Obert, Vargas goes square
to Klan. He has to go back to Alex Roldan.
Pressure from Red Shirts come and swarms as they shift
out from the eighteen yard box. Now ball down line
inside the eachen yard box left hand side. Good defending

(02:26:33):
by Yarrow came across to Vargas towards the end line.
It's gonna be a corner kick for the sound as
a seventh corner kick?

Speaker 22 (02:26:40):
Is it gonna be a set piece? Is going to
get the Sounders on.

Speaker 3 (02:26:43):
The boarder here just over two minutes to go of
the ninety Sounders need something here. It's gonna be a
raznak on the left hand side this time Inswinger with
his right foot. Big men are up Bell, Knew, who
Jackson Reagan. Ball comes in towards the Nick corner clips
up in the air by Lund again just slaps at

(02:27:04):
it and bailed out by the referee. Was Massofski and
Lund too just went down like a sack of potatoes.
There was somebody who's six foot five. I mean, you
got a thing. You got to stand up a little
bit stronger than that. But he was a foul. He
earned it, referee gave it, fell for it. It's gonna
be a free k for Saint Louis remains one.

Speaker 2 (02:27:22):
No.

Speaker 4 (02:27:24):
Yeah, watching the replay, I don't see that at all.

Speaker 22 (02:27:28):
And then any strike.

Speaker 4 (02:27:29):
Danny Labor with the second goal that didn't count of
his career for the Sounders right that it was his
first game, first game, hit that laser from about thirty
yards out. He just smashed a volley right there side Eddie.
That was a very very soft foul schalkeeper. So I
understand we have to protect him, but I like it
from Seattle right now. They've had some good patience combined

(02:27:52):
with some urgency and great little ball from Georgie for
obd Vargas in behind it with a cross that earned
the corner. So they got to keep this going.

Speaker 3 (02:28:01):
The stats read well sixty five percent possession, six hundred
passes for the Sounders, but at eleven shots just have
me able to Market's besher strike support good saved by
Fry follow up off the goal line is new Who
his right foot. It was a follow up. I think
it was from Heartle just scuffed his follow up, bounced
up deflection just wide. That's you. It's the good fifteen

(02:28:25):
yards wide. Eventually off the deflection, it's gonna be a
corner kick for Saint Louis, but again good save by
step friend Fry jumped up for the rebound as a
scuff shot from Heartle cleared off the line by new Who.

Speaker 22 (02:28:35):
Sounders breathe again. They trail one nil here.

Speaker 3 (02:28:40):
As we get to the ninety minute mark, we'll see
what the referee adds on, but for now they're gonna
have to defend this corner kick on this right hand
side for Saint Louis.

Speaker 4 (02:28:51):
It's good from new Who. Keeper comes off his line,
makes the save. Knew Who tucks in behind him there.
If we go down two nothing, this one's over, so
good for new Who to have the discipline and then
is there to clear it off the line.

Speaker 3 (02:29:04):
Recki Nielsen, defensive player comes on for Keere Watt so
well left Melbourne trying to shut up shop in these
final minutes of the games to tick past the ninety
minute mark. Sounders in added time territory. Now it's gonna
be a corner kick they're gonna have to defend. It's
gonna be clipped towards the back stick up and away
by Danny Label. The second attempt strike wide step.

Speaker 22 (02:29:24):
Fire's going to quickly put it on crowd murmurs.

Speaker 3 (02:29:29):
I think it was a six minute call we just
heard after get a confidence, Yes, six minutes of any time,
so freaking yeah, very generous with his anti time. Three
minutes in the first off. Six minutes here, No big
delayed to speak of. It was Christian sure all went
down for a little while, but for six minutes.

Speaker 22 (02:29:48):
But Sounds, we'll take it.

Speaker 4 (02:29:49):
We'll take absolutely.

Speaker 3 (02:29:50):
Sound's got plenty of time now, five minutes to go
of the six, so we ticket the ninety first minute mark.
Jonathan Bell bought in possession. Eleven men behind the ball
for the Red Shirt of Saint Louis and Sounders find
an equalizing goal. They're trailing one goal to nil. Here
in Saint Louis Sports Radio nine to fifty am. The
scot that is presented by Provident Swedish. Sounder's back at

(02:30:13):
Luminfield next week against to play the Houston Dynamo. Of course,
who they played in the MLS playoffs last year. Ball
comes in to Musofsky can't get the better of Yarrow
cook clear by Saint Louis as they looking for their
fourth clean sheet in a row, their fourth clean sheet
out of the first four games. That would certainly be

(02:30:34):
a record for Saint Louis. As Nielsen the sub give
us the ball away a little sloppily, I'm sure Melbourg's
not going to appreciate that one. As fellow countryman knocks
it out of bounds, Sounders have it with Labor inside
the box. It goes to Vargas, cann He giggle free,

(02:30:54):
goes down and it's a penalty. Kessler houcks his left
leg around Vargas, who's spun inside the eighteen yard bocks,
and it's a penalty. The referee will check it on
var just to be sure. The Saint Louis players are
asking for a handball, but for right now, it's a

(02:31:14):
penalty for the sound As is the way to get
back in the game. We'll seeing a replay here. Pete.
It looks like it may have come off his hand.
Who's trailing on the ground.

Speaker 22 (02:31:27):
The question was in the thot, but I don't think
it matters these days.

Speaker 3 (02:31:29):
If he hits the hand.

Speaker 4 (02:31:33):
Yeah, this will be interesting to see if he goes
with the handball or the foul. Little bit. Vargas a
great composure, great idea inside the box. Try to make
something happen right, Try to make a play there by spin, moved,
try to get through to an opening and hits his feet, taken.

Speaker 3 (02:31:51):
Down, referee ball in his hands walking around Saint Louis.
Player is a following game. It looks like on the
replay Pete did hit his left hand as he Yeah,
all kind of flicks off. I think it was Vallum's foot. Yeah,
and the hamble happened before the foul.

Speaker 4 (02:32:10):
Yep.

Speaker 3 (02:32:12):
So Sounders we're gonna have to find another way to
find their equalizing goal. It feels like as a referee
continues to the VAI is going to go and do
a check. Of course, it lands on the referees plate.
It's been told by VR to go check it. There are,
of course, other instances where the referee VR can override
the decision.

Speaker 22 (02:32:32):
And say he is a handball.

Speaker 4 (02:32:34):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (02:32:34):
In this case a referee is going to have to
go over to the screen. But I feel like we
all both fear that it's going to be an obvious
free kick.

Speaker 4 (02:32:41):
And yeah, the tough one is it and it comes
off his hand, it puts it plays him into space.
It definitely is an advantage. There's a Saint Louis player
right behind him. If it doesn't hit his hand, it
goes to him. So I think our chances are wildly
slim that we'll get a peek out of this.

Speaker 22 (02:32:58):
Yeah, I don't think.

Speaker 3 (02:32:59):
It's going to take too much time for the referee
to look at this. No, we will see the screen
as we look down on a monitory.

Speaker 22 (02:33:10):
It feels like.

Speaker 3 (02:33:11):
This is kind of the manner in which the game's gone.
The sound has done well in so many different areas
of the game, just haven't been able to truly create
the couple of good chances to test a goalkeeper.

Speaker 4 (02:33:21):
No, you're right. If that ball bounce is a little different,
comes off his shin and plays himself into space, he
makes that turn, we get the PK on the on
the other side, that was a very unfortunate goal. It
was great goal on the free kick, but it was
unfortunate the way that the handball happened with Jackson. And
so you're right, Danny we just we have not had
much luck this season, have we.

Speaker 22 (02:33:41):
As the referees call.

Speaker 19 (02:33:45):
After review prior to the penalty kick, there's a handball
fine number eighteen Seattle final decision is no penalty.

Speaker 3 (02:33:53):
Well, it's a celebration of the crowd. It fell a
bit muted. It's pretty obvious where.

Speaker 22 (02:33:56):
It was going as soon as the referee started talking.

Speaker 3 (02:33:58):
But yeah, there's gonna be a free kick. There's gonna
be a no penalty decision. By case of Vargus, just
be a little bit careful. I think he's sitting on
a yellow card. He just needs to keep his mouth shut.

Speaker 4 (02:34:13):
Yeah, he's mature. Diego said it during the pregame. That
is just mature beyond Yeah. Yeah, as a player and
as a person as well.

Speaker 3 (02:34:21):
Melbourg's celebrating that call by the referee, But after watching
the replay, I felt like that was the obvious decision
in the end by the referee. But we've got thirty
seconds of the six to go. But you'd think the
referee is going to add a two three minutes onto
the clock. You'd have to think based on that delay
of VR and Nielsen came on as a sub as well,
so there's some time to maybe for the sound still

(02:34:43):
to find that goal. Even though we're ticking towards the
ninety six minute mark.

Speaker 22 (02:34:47):
Six minutes about it time, so we're about to hit
that mark.

Speaker 3 (02:34:49):
But again, as we mentioned, the referee should add on
at least a couple of minutes.

Speaker 22 (02:34:53):
Based on that VR review.

Speaker 4 (02:34:57):
Danny Labors looked good since he's come on the field.
Maybe it's been about six or seven minutes, but he's
trying to create things.

Speaker 3 (02:35:03):
He's doing himself no harm, correct and the performance is
so far, and especially with Josh Tenco going to Colorado Rappers,
it's just a vote of confidence for Danny Labor and
the manner in which the coach staff feel about it.
So we can see what's given. As a player on
the ground, it's Carl Hebert, one of the players I
scored four own goals against the Sounders. That first one

(02:35:24):
actually in the first game. It's Knew who crashed into
him with a tackle that is a lever mark tackle,
fair tackle as it goes through. Referee did make the call.
Let's get here, just forty five seconds past the sixth
minute mark, it's gonna be a free kick on the
deck for Lunt. The filling goalie, the reserve goalie stepping

(02:35:49):
in last minute for Burkie, the twenty twenty three goalkeeper
of the Year in MLS Player of the Match Day
last week. Sounds haven't been able to breakthrough in this game.
It's seven goals conceded in four games.

Speaker 4 (02:36:06):
One will have this job six weeks.

Speaker 3 (02:36:08):
Yeah, another disappointing result. The performance has been a lot
better than RSL, so you think that's gonna carry itself forward.
And of course Sounders have done well at home, but
you know, not getting on the board again away from
home in terms of goals and then obviously not getting
the points so far, and see if the Sounders can
still find a way back into it.

Speaker 22 (02:36:29):
It's gonna be another yellow.

Speaker 3 (02:36:30):
Card and now the referee is making up for lost ground.
Is it's gonna be the seventh yellow card for yellow
cards for the Sounders three on Saint Louis.

Speaker 4 (02:36:43):
That was for Melbourgh, right there, coach, we're eight.

Speaker 3 (02:36:45):
Minutes past the ninety six minutes was put on the clock.
We're ticking towards the very end of this game. A
little bit more at it time added because of the
var decision. As Kessler heads the ball down deep on
the left hand side, closed down by Georgie knocks it
forth his left foot. The Sound's gonna get one more chances.
They get a throw on the far side the right
with Alex rolled On, one goal to nil, Saint Louis lead.

(02:37:11):
Final seconds of the game is gonna be a long
throw from Alex rolled On, but the Sounders find a
way back into it.

Speaker 22 (02:37:16):
Ball comes in headed, clear strike.

Speaker 3 (02:37:20):
It was rash from Jenny Lava and you gotta think, Pete,
that might be just about it. As we get two
and a half minutes past the six so he approached
the ninety nine minute mark.

Speaker 22 (02:37:32):
Saint Louis plays are asking the referee for the time.

Speaker 3 (02:37:35):
Disappointing decision by Danny Labor just slashed to the ball's
goalkick one nil Saint Louis.

Speaker 4 (02:37:40):
A moment ago, he hits a great screamer into the
back of the net, but it's after a penalty after
a foul, so it doesn't count this one. He mishits
who can flip that right, it'd be much happier.

Speaker 3 (02:37:52):
Referee will not put the whistle to his mouth. Sounders
maybe have one final chance, but that's a giveaway by
Jonathan Bell. The former Saint Louis man. As the ball
goes towards the far left corner, that's where point Hertle's
going to keep the ball, challenged by Alex Roldan. He
clips the ball down the line. It's going to be
a throwing for Saint Louis Free just taking a look

(02:38:15):
at his watch. Three and a half minutes past the
six already happened. We're getting to that end of game
territory right now, and there's the referees whistle brings the
game to an end. A fourth clean sheet out of
four games for Saint Louis, so new head coach Olif
Melburg will be very happy for his defensive performance from

(02:38:35):
his team. But the sound Iss gonna come up disappointed again.
And it was a fifteenth minute free kick from Leuven
who got the winning goal as they earned the three
points against the Sounders, their first points in their first win.

Speaker 22 (02:38:48):
Against the sound As ever in MLS. One goal to
nail peat.

Speaker 4 (02:38:52):
Your final thoughts, well, I agree with you that it
was a better performance than the RSL last to zero.
There's gonna be some frustration and that's Seattle locker room
because they had their opportunities. You have to give credit
to Saint Louis has to start a season without giving
a goal on the first four is quite impressive. They
did a lot of bending without breaking. They let Seattle
have possession of the ball. So Seattle now they get

(02:39:14):
a week to get themselves ready for the next one,
and they've got to do a little bit better with
the quality. Well.

Speaker 3 (02:39:19):
Thanks Pete, and thanks for everyone involved in today's broadcast,

and Kevin kay Is always for your great information, and
of course to Seattle soccer legend Pete Fewing for all

more of those thoughts in the post game. The team
can now enjoy a well earned rest after a heavy

(02:39:40):
early season load, and they'll be back at home next
Saturday when they face Houston Dynamo at lumen Field. But
for now we'll take a short break. Jackson Felts, Diego
Arioja and Pete Fewing we'll be back to break everything
down from Energizert Park in downtown Saint Louis. It finishes
disappointingly for the men in Green Saint Louis City sc
One Sounders nil.

City has beaten the Seattle Sounders. It's a final one
nothing tonight from Energizer Park out there in Saint Louis.
They finally have beaten the Rave Green. They also finally
have not given up an own goal to the Sounders.

Speaker 3 (02:44:17):
It was four for.

Speaker 2 (02:44:18):
Four of them giving up on goals to us. That
streak stops as well as Saint Louis get all three
points with the home one nothing win over the Sounders tonight.
Welcome into the post match show Jacksonfeld's Jay Audio and
Pete Fewing here for next twenty thirty. However long we
want to talk about this game and kind of break
down what was a Sounders last tonight. I'll quickly tell

(02:44:38):
you off the top that Sounders EVSE Soccer is presented
by Provident, Swedish official healthcare partner of Sounders FC also
that Delta Airlines is proud to proud to donate one
soccer ball for every mile ran by Sounders FC players
this season. Three foundations, one mile, one ball program. All right,
it's a one nothing final. The goal was scored in
the fifteenth minute a well taken free kick by Edward

(02:44:59):
Louvin after a yellow card by Jackson. Reagan fell down,
slipped and then kind of the ball rolled in or
he grabbed the ball. Either way it hits his hand,
that's a yellow card. Twenty five yards out. Luvin steps
up to it and puts it into the left side
of the net for the lone goal of tonight's game.
Let's just start off Diego and then Pete with opening

(02:45:21):
thoughts on what is a Sounder's loss.

Speaker 5 (02:45:24):
It was a tough match, obviously not the result we
all wanted. However, I did see the second half improvements
right in terms of the intensity the pressure. I think
the first forty five were not good at all, right
in terms of not creating any clear chances, but at
least looking I would say, on the bright side of things,

(02:45:47):
this Sounders team, regardless of all the missing players they
were playing. You know they play on the road against
that some loose team that haven't received any goals, and
they were really close to actually even manage a result,
a positive result. But I think for me, the question
is for the Saunders, we also will talk about it more.

(02:46:08):
But we also saw Christian Roldan probably leaving the pitch injured.
Hopefully not, we'll see, but it's just, you know, it's
not a good sign in terms of not having available players,
especially not having the players that are a starter.

Speaker 6 (02:46:25):
So we'll see how that evolves.

Speaker 5 (02:46:27):
But I think to me, looking again on the right
side of things, you have a competitive team without five
even six starters, and the Sounders can can play onst
any team.

Speaker 4 (02:46:39):
When you step back and think about it for a minute,
you know, we never like to lose, right And when
you were saying, just now, Jackson, that's the first time
they've beat us, they didn't give an own goal, I'm
thinking we shouldn't have talked about that before the game
because I'm superstitious. I guess as a coach sometimes but
you look at it and you say, okay, when you
step back and you say, we have had quite a
week with the injury that we've had. The eight games

(02:47:02):
in twenty four days and coming into a Saint Louis
team that hasn't given up a goal all season and
didn't tonight. It comes down to a little individual place.
Jackson just said it. You know, we have the handball
and then a great free kick, and that's the difference.
That's the margin in this game. Right here, we had
a couple of chances leave us. Smashes a great volley
into the back of the net, but it's coming off

(02:47:24):
of a whistle, so it doesn't count. Then he miss
hits one a little bit later. So coming down to
individual place, that's what's the separator at this level. And
you know all the pro teams around the world say
we would say the same thing. So we're close. We
created opportunities. I like our pieces. I'm glad we have
a week off to get ready for the next one.
And I'm thrilled to be honest that we're at home

(02:47:47):
versus Houston because we need they just have it's coming.

Speaker 8 (02:47:50):
Back a week.

Speaker 3 (02:47:51):
They need a week.

Speaker 4 (02:47:52):
They really do, We really do. I mean you look
at it and like Jordan Morris's injury, I was really
sad for the look on his face, and I think
kid has run his guts out. You know, for twenty
one straight days, every three or four days he's been
so so anyway, you know, give give Saint Louis credit
for getting the win and defending well and getting another shutout.

(02:48:12):
Seattle had chances and opportunities. They're be on a plane
in the next hour. They need to come home, rest up,
and retool. And frankly, if we beat Houston next week,
we'll have one more win than we did in the
first ten games last year.

Speaker 2 (02:48:29):
Well, I want to take Yeah, it's good point and
we're on our fourth game, so well, I want to
take the next segment in the postgame show and talk
about a few specific players, one specifically being Haes Whu's Ferreira.
I think I think he deserves a conversation. I would
like to before we take a break, talk about with
a ninety third minute penalty that wasn't because it looks
like Obed Vargas is running into the box, his hands

(02:48:52):
look like in no dangerous position, nothing's flailing, but the
ball does hit his hand and then ultimately he's brought down.
There's a penalty comes back and they rule that it's
a handball before the trip and before the foul. So
you know, for me, it just seems a bit harsh
to call that. But but from a coach's eyes and

(02:49:14):
diego from your analyst, dies I want each of your
your take because that that frustrated me a little bit
that you call the penalty and boy, that's it just
seems a little soft to call that handball.

Speaker 5 (02:49:25):
Yeah, I mean unfortunately according to FIFA rules, right, it's
a hand.

Speaker 3 (02:49:30):
What what what what FIFA rules.

Speaker 5 (02:49:34):
At the end of the day, the problem is that, yeah,
it was not voluntary that he hits hits hand, but
if if the hand wasn't there, the ball probably would
slip away, right, because that actually the ball stops in
his hand and then he can he continues to play
and then he gets fouled. So to me, that to me,
that's the key, right because again not voluntary, but it's
a handball, and at the end of the day, if

(02:49:55):
there's a handball, the foul after that doesn't count. It
cancels it drules out right, Yeah, rules unfortunately, But yeah,
he was and the naked eye was hard to see
because I was looking at the game.

Speaker 6 (02:50:06):
It was like, okay, how was that a ham? I
have replay.

Speaker 3 (02:50:10):
We saw the replay, but it just I don't know.

Speaker 2 (02:50:11):
I mean, maybe maybe it did alter the ball that much,
but I don't know.

Speaker 4 (02:50:15):
We have a different U screen that we're looking on.
So we saw it about six or seven times. And
with each time you went, Sugar.

Speaker 3 (02:50:22):
Yeah, yeah you saw you saw a different way.

Speaker 4 (02:50:25):
Yeah, and Kessler was behind him, had he not? And
oh but didn't do it on purpose? He didn't, he didn't.
You know, Uh, who am I thinking of the the
Italian player with the ponytail? Come on, come on, come
on forward by Bio. Yeah, it didn't Bozzio. I did
still see Bozzio not going to ball into his space, right,

(02:50:46):
and and it did hit his hand. Had it not
hit his hand, it would have gone to Kessler. And
it did play him back into the space. So yeah,
we saw it five or six times.

Speaker 2 (02:50:56):
And you guys have you you and Danny have this
like super interesting set up with all of your camera
angles and stuff. I'm just watching it and then the
moment I see no, yeah, yeah.

Speaker 4 (02:51:06):
So to your point the naked eye, I didn't see
it at first. By the sixth or seventh one, you're thinking, well,
that's all we're going to get it.

Speaker 2 (02:51:13):
So it ultimately was taken off and game well, you
know what I mean, You know how me. I reacted
accordingly to about the nth degree of the things Pete,
so as as I do with all things with Sounders,
and I just got to remind myself that it's early
in the season, gentlemen, and a loss here tonight, we
just move forward.

Speaker 3 (02:51:33):
We got Houston coming up. We'll talk about Houston.

Speaker 2 (02:51:35):
Also, it's the return of Nicholas Ladero to Seattle coming
up next week.

Speaker 3 (02:51:40):
We'll talk about that later on.

Speaker 2 (02:51:41):
I do want to specifically talk about a few guys
out of this game, so that'll come up next on
the post game show. I will tell you that this
season it wasn't tonight, but when the Sounders win, you'll
win a free mix chick in the next day, exclusively
in the McDonald's app with any minimum two dollars purchase
down on the McDonald's up today and check out the
deals waiting for you falling tonight. One nothing in Saint Louis.

(02:52:02):
We'll have more next on the postgame show. Sports Radio
nine to fifty KJRM.

Speaker 12 (02:52:07):
Hey, they're Sounders fans. All of us at sound Transit
love when you take the train to the match, but
we want to remind you to use crosswalks and obey
traffic signals near tracks. Trains are quieter than you expect,
travel in both directions and approach at varying speeds that
are difficult to judge. The amount of time you might
save by ducking or going around a crossing gate isn't

(02:52:27):
worth risking your life for. So next time you're buy
a track, play it safe. That way we all win.

Speaker 13 (02:52:33):
A message from sound Transit.

Speaker 16 (02:52:36):
You're listening to the home of Sounders FC Seattle's sports
Radio nine fifty KJR.

Speaker 2 (02:52:42):
Welcome back to the postgame show Sounders falling tonight in
Saint Louis by a final score of one to nothing.

Speaker 3 (02:52:49):
Stim for our Emerald Queen Casino.

Speaker 2 (02:52:51):
Play of the match, so still a play of the
match even in a shutout loss. It was a one
nothing game. Stephen Fry came up big to keep it
one nothing.

Speaker 3 (02:52:59):
It's a hotle rolls the ball out to the fall
side of the left to the vallum closed down by
Alex Drolldon and it was a good save in the
end by Cefan Fry through traffic. It came lowdown twas right.
He had to go managed to crawl clone the ball
out from the right corner of the goal.

Speaker 2 (02:53:19):
The play of the match is presented by Emerald quin
Casino at the betting capital of the Northwest. All right,
time to look ahead to what's next. And what's next
will be a full week of rest for the Sounders,
thank goodness. Finally the full week of rest comes before
Nicholas Ladero and the Houston Dynamo come into Seattle. The
return of Nico to Seattle next weekend as he joined

(02:53:40):
the Houston Dynamo just recently actually from Orlando City.

Speaker 3 (02:53:44):
So that's gonna be at lumen Field.

Speaker 2 (02:53:46):
We will have a Providence Swedish premach show of seven
o'clock and a kickoff of seven point thirty. Folks, you
can watch the match on mly Season Pass on the
Apple TV up. You can also listen on l Ray
thirteen sixty in Spanish. We will have the broadcast for
you on our stream channel. It's the Sounders FC Radio
stream channel on iHeartRadio and the iHeartRadio app. So if

(02:54:08):
you go into iHeartRadio, if you go onto the iHeartRadio
app and you search Sounders FC Radio, then you will
be able to pull up the stream channel and that
is where we will have the game for you next
Saturday night once again seven o'clock pregame, seven thirty kickoff
there on the Sounders FC radio stream channel on iHeartRadio
and the iHeartRadio app for Sounders Houston next weekend. And

(02:54:33):
Diego Pete. I mean, this is a Houston team. We
saw him in the playoffs last year. They made a
lot of changes in the off season. Nicholas Ladero is
now on them. This is gonna be a fun one
here at Luminfield next Saturday.

Speaker 5 (02:54:46):
Yeah, I mean it's a completely different team from what
the Sounders encountered last season. I get to see Nicolas
Laleo coming back. Definitely one of the Seattle Sounders legends
we can has, you know, brought a lot of good
moments for the for the oldest Yel Saunders fans. But
this Houston Dynamo, it's it's struggling. We see where they're

(02:55:09):
currently in the table with just one point. They lost
today against oursel. But they do have one of the
new good players as a kill ponse number ten, who
actually scored today. Who's gonna be a handful definitely to cover.
But I do think after this loss from Saunders Today
they have to come back home and look for Houston

(02:55:32):
Danamo that they haven't found the form.

Speaker 6 (02:55:34):
And again such a different team.

Speaker 5 (02:55:36):
For what he used to be without Ectro Arera and
also a lot of the changes that I think now
this team is going to be struggling a little bit,
especially playing away against the cl Saunders in Lumen.

Speaker 4 (02:55:47):
Well, I'm excited to see Nico come back. I think
this will be nice. There's been enough time for him
being away that he'll be celebrated when he comes back.
When you think of him, he's ninety five assists for
this team, right, that's he's number one on that and
total points in all competition he's number four with fifty
eight points and then game winning goals he's number six

(02:56:08):
with thirteen. So he's done and he's helped us lift
a cup, you.

Speaker 3 (02:56:11):
Know, a lot of cups.

Speaker 4 (02:56:13):
Well, tell you what you know. This sometimes gets brought up.
You know, Ziggy left the same day Nico came to
this club, right, and then Brian Schweitzer took over and
took him to the MLS Cup in twenty sixteen. So
there's a lot of happy memories and a lot of
great leadership. One of My favorite stories on Nico is
first game he's playing for the Sounders, he walks in
the locker room and they're listening to music and he

(02:56:33):
turns it off and he says, we're not doing that.
Talk to each other about playing the game, and that changed.
That was the beginning of a change in the trajectory
of this team. So I'm excited he's coming back. Teams
take on the personality of their coach. Ben Olsen, Oh yeah,
is a grinder. He's not going to come here and say, Okay,
we're not going to be a good team. He's coming
here and expecting saying, hey, Seattle, right now, they're one win,

(02:56:56):
two losses and a tie, let's get after him, right
So you can expect a battle. But I am glad
we get a few days to recover. I'm glad the
next one is at San Jose, so it's a short
flight so we can finally get our legs and you know,
get going and same time zone and all those kind
of things. So I'm hoping that we come back and
that we get after him. But you can't expect a

(02:57:16):
Houston Dynamo team to roll over.

Speaker 2 (02:57:18):
No, absolutely not, And they'll be saying you know we're
gonna get after them, and for the Sounders, we'll have
to say the same thing. We've got to get after
Houston Dynamo next Saturday, once again seven o'clock pre game
seven thirty kickoff. It's the Sounders FC Radio stream channel
on iHeart Radio and the free, new, redesigned and pretty
freaking cool iHeartRadio app. You can download it now and

(02:57:39):
get ready for the Sounders FC Radio stream channel next
Saturday night. Want to thank you everybody with the broadcast.
Christopher Kidd, our technical director tonight hitting all the buttons.
We also have Danny Jackson Pete Fewing who called a
great game Dieo audioa thank you for being here on
pre half post.

Speaker 3 (02:57:55):
My name is Jackson Feltz. We thank you all for listening.

Speaker 2 (02:57:57):
Wishing it was a better result one to nothing Sounder's
loss out in Saint Louis. We look forward to Houston
next Saturday night. Have a very good rest of your weekend. Everybody,
have a very happy Saint Patrick's Day. And for right
here and right now, I believe we have some more
content coming up next here on Sports Radio nine point
fifty kJ R AM.
