(00:21):
Sounders FC.

Speaker 2 (00:23):
The Sounders FC Postmat Show starts now.

Speaker 3 (00:27):
Well, it was a beautiful evening in Seattle, and it
was a beautiful win for your Seattle Sounders won nothing
tonight over San Diego.

Speaker 2 (00:35):
Hey sus Ferrara scores his first goal for.

Speaker 3 (00:38):
The Rave Green ends up being the game winner for
Seattle as they beat San Diego, a team with a
last to about a month and a half go down
in Southern California. Tonight they get the revenge and they
get the win. And this week where three matches in
nine days, all my Home continues with another dub that
is two straight wins over Dawn and here San.

Speaker 2 (01:01):
Diego with Minnesota ahead on Sunday.

Speaker 3 (01:04):
Great night here, lumin Field, We welcome you in to
the Sounders FC postmatch Show. Jackson Phelps alongside the player
Kellen Row and the coach Pte viewing. We are here
for the next hour hour long post game show tonight.
We're gonna hear from head coach Brian Schmtzer. We're gonna
react to this game. We're gonna talk about Minnesota ahead
and exactly how Brian Schmetzer sets up his team, which

(01:26):
could end up taking nine points out of a possible
nine when the week is all said and done. But
let's start with some opening thoughts. Kellen won nothing win
tonight for the Sounders.

Speaker 2 (01:36):
Look, I think it was a good win. We talked
about how this would.

Speaker 4 (01:39):
Be a redemption game and they had to be patient,
picked their times, you know, make sure they play the
right ball. And when they did go, I thought they
did a really good job of going at pace and
going with numbers. We'll talk about it later in this
in this post game that is drowning on into my bedtime,
but we'll talk about Morbia.

Speaker 2 (01:56):
They could cut off the door by eight.

Speaker 4 (01:57):
Thirty, Okay, buddy, I have I'm a working man now, Okay,
not the fun kind. It's it's a lot, no, it's
I think there was a good game for him though,
And like I said, they picked their moments. I think
they could have been cleaner and more clinical in those moments,
especially towards the end.

Speaker 2 (02:12):
I don't think they made the right decisions, but we
can talk about that more.

Speaker 5 (02:16):
I thought it was a better performance than Dallas. I
think maybe close, but I don't know.

Speaker 2 (02:24):
He's thinking again, Yeah, I think it is close.

Speaker 5 (02:26):
But I would say this that they're gonna get in
the locker room and because it's the second of three,
they they're gonna look at it and say, Okay, put.

Speaker 2 (02:33):
It behind us.

Speaker 5 (02:34):
They gotta get healthy again and get ready to go
to Minnesota. Is a very good team.

Speaker 6 (02:38):
Uh.

Speaker 5 (02:39):
I like your comment about they picked their times right.

Speaker 7 (02:43):
They did.

Speaker 5 (02:43):
They could have got another goal or two honestly on
some of the counter attacks late in the game when
San Diego is coming forward. But another clean sheet. That's
clean sheet number six for the club this year. So
I'll take it. It wasn't as pretty as you want.
But again, if you can come through a season in
and have some wins that aren't as pretty, you're not
playing at your best, then you'll take as a coach,

(03:05):
as a player, you'll take as a fan, you'll take it.

Speaker 3 (03:07):
I feel like we said the same things on Saturday. Well,
it wasn't as pretty as you want, and that's what
we let the Free Games show with today. But well,
it wasn't as pretty as you want, but it wasn't
one nothing win. And I'm gonna say the exact same
thing I said in the postgame show back on Saturday
in October. When this team is looking at a top
three seed in the Western Conference, we're gonna look back
at the schedule. We're gonna see the one nothing went
over Dallas. We're gonna see the one nothing win tonight,

(03:29):
and we're not gonna remember or care that it wasn't
as pretty as we wanted it to be.

Speaker 5 (03:33):
Here's where I think this is a little bit of
a better win. I agree with you. This was San
Diego versus Dallas. Yea, San Diego really had a they
did very well against us in the first game. So
and to come back in the rubber match and and
get the win at home and to get six points, right,
that that is a good thing. So I think they're
gonna be somewhat satisfied in the locker room. I thought

(03:55):
some of the young people who came Stuart Hawkins today, Yeah,
good for that kid. Kilany did his job today. He
came in he was, he created some things. He got
a yellow card because of a fast break. He didn't
give the ball away too much.

Speaker 2 (04:10):
He was a spark and that gives he should have
some confidence from that game. And I'll tell you what
the goal. Parrera's goal, great cross from Paul Rothrock. That's
his third assist.

Speaker 5 (04:20):
Ferrera's first touch, that's the quality we are hoping to
see from him. His first touch was a little away
from the defender. Gave him a good chance to just
taking home with his left foot. So yeah, we'll take it.
Six points.

Speaker 2 (04:34):
On to Minnesota.

Speaker 4 (04:35):
Well, if you talk about these games, you talk about
going into the locker room, you have your two games
now on on Saturday and Wednesday.

Speaker 2 (04:40):
You're going again on Sunday, and.

Speaker 4 (04:42):
You're thinking, okay, our legs are tired, but we already
got our two wins, right. We grinded these games out.
They really did get against Dallas again one zero. It
was with the eighty seventh minute of the PK happened.
And then you have it here again today where they
scored in the second half, but then they did sit
back and grind and defend and fight and battle, and
so now you're looking at this team who's coming down
with injuries. Right, you have younger players that are coming

(05:05):
in less experience. So if you're Brian Smetzer, what are
you giving these guys coming into Sunday and going, Hey,
I know we have our two wins already, but that's
not good enough for the Seattle Sounders. We have to
make sure that it's three for three and nine points
in this home game stretch.

Speaker 2 (05:20):
What are you giving the coach? Yeah? Well, really quick
before we take a break, y'all. We'll get back to
that next segment. I will say.

Speaker 3 (05:25):
With the win, Sounders now up to twenty six points,

Sounder's taking care of business tonight against San Diego. A
one nothing win here tonight at Luminfield, A beautiful evening
here at loomen As. The Sounders took care of business
to get their win, and it's time for our Emerald
Queen Casino Play of the match.

Speaker 2 (10:23):
One goal tonight, that's exactly where we're going. It's the
first for Haes who's Ferrara, and it ends up being
the game winner. Day committed down the line and go,
sir rowcuck, did you get that? Fust whips it in
its Fererra.

Speaker 7 (10:33):
Turns, strikes and there it is for Fererra.

Speaker 17 (10:39):
He gets off the mark for the Sounders, his first
goal in NLS play.

Speaker 9 (10:45):
For his new club, and what a time to do it.

Speaker 2 (10:50):
Sounders won San Diego nil.

Speaker 3 (10:53):
The Play of the match is presented by Emerald Queen, Casino,
the betting capital of the Northwest. You know, we kind
of talked about it a little bit there in that
first segment, Kellen, but what a good play the cross
from Rothrock, the finish from Ferrero.

Speaker 4 (11:04):
It was.

Speaker 2 (11:04):
It was really well executed. It was.

Speaker 4 (11:06):
And then they said they picked their times to go,
and when they did go, they went with pace and
they went with numbers and that's what they did here.
Alex had played a great ball around the corner to
you know, a running.

Speaker 2 (11:15):
On Paul Rothrock, who did it all night.

Speaker 4 (11:18):
He was the first guy to kind of get behind
that back line when he made those runs, and he
finally did it and he connected on.

Speaker 2 (11:24):
It as well.

Speaker 4 (11:24):
And the quality and I'm gonna say that word of
an underline and very bold and in all caps. The
quality of that play from Hazus Ferrara is gonna be
missed a little bit because most players try and take
that ball he's just passed that front post.

Speaker 2 (11:39):
Most players are gonna take that cross.

Speaker 4 (11:40):
Trying first time it with his right foot and try
and cut across the goalkeeper. Instead, knowing that he's one
on one and there's not many people around him in
the box, he takes that touch with the outside of
his right foot and allows it to roll across his
body and so the defender as well as Jesus, but
he does a quicker job of turning. But the defender
then is a flybyer. He just kind of slides by,

(12:00):
thank you very much. And he finds a way to
put his left foot through that for that through the goal,
and it's just it's the quality and awareness of that
turn is going to be missed by many people. It
is such a hard thing to do, especially when you're
a goal scorer like he is.

Speaker 2 (12:15):
Yeah, you're nailed at.

Speaker 5 (12:16):
Here's the other thing. He got to that near post,
which is what we talked about before. Dallas and what
we talked about before this game and what Brian Schpetzer said,
You've got to do that to create opportunities, so good
for him and Kellen you you're absolutely correct and it
was such a great turn and then the goalkeeper had
just absolutely no chance, so a great finish. It's it's
his first goal for the Sounders. It's a win for

(12:38):
the Sounders. It's three points against the team that's higher
up the table than us. You know, in the last
segment we talked about, Kellen said, finding ways to win.
That's fun when it becomes part of your DNA. You
don't always have to play pretty, but if you can
find ways to win, that gives you confidence that you're
going to compete for the ninety minutes.

Speaker 3 (12:54):
And how about the defensive job where San Diego, I mean,
what did Seattle finished with Keel you were saying it
was forty four percent possession for the Sounders, and just
the defending that happened over the last thirty minutes of
this game, where they were just peppering the box with
crosses and shots, and I think the job defending, I
mean talent that was that was such a great job.

Speaker 2 (13:14):
But also should be mentioned as well.

Speaker 3 (13:15):
In this part of this conversation, Tonight's Toyota the man
of the match I'm naming is Stephen Frye your logo
toylet duers are pract to present Tonight's man of the match.
The saves that fry came up with, the big stops defensively,
the steps from the defenders, great last thirty minutes on that.

Speaker 5 (13:29):
End, well, the big one right before the half kept
it at zero zero that would have given San Diego
all the momentum going in at halftime. And then the
skate save where it was a deflection sixty six minute Yeah,
and he good for him, I mean yeah, lets.

Speaker 4 (13:43):
Just say that we both looked at each other going,
oh my goodness, how did he do that?

Speaker 5 (13:46):
And then he pinged it first time right out to
Alex roll Don. I'm not sure that he is that
quick that he could first time a ball.

Speaker 4 (13:53):
I mean, what a player right makes the save then
distributes right away.

Speaker 5 (13:56):
That's our captain, baby, yes, but again keeping the clean sheet,
I mean that's he is really sharp right now. And
you know, if he can continue this way, I think
he gets another year, another two years, I don't know
how how long after that, but I think today he
was as sharp as as he's been and his decision making.
There was a couple where he came off the line

(14:18):
right and and san Diego's making a run through and
he's right at the edge of his box and he's
just stopping things before they get going.

Speaker 2 (14:27):
I don't know about next year.

Speaker 4 (14:28):
I don't know about two years or five years down
the road for Steph and Fry, but at the moment,
he's playing amazing and we want him for the rest
of the year as well. So he again, Yeah, Stephen
Fry makes saves that we say now are Stephen Fry
normal saves, And we're going to continue to say this.
If someone else made those saves that he made today,
he'd be Team of the Week.

Speaker 18 (14:46):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (14:46):
Absolutely, That's that's something that everyone is.

Speaker 4 (14:48):
Everyone in this league, ourselves included, are so used to
Stephan Fry making these incredible saves that it's just a
normal save and he makes it look so easy and
it is incredibly hard to do so, and so there's
there's that, But there's also the organization piece, and I
mean we miss this as well on coaching staffs, on
players sides, as fans as well. The organization that Stephan

(15:08):
Frye has to do that his center backs have to do.
That I hear all the time Alex roldand doing as well,
is that you have to be organized so these shots
do not happen as often, that the deflections do not
happen as often, and when they do, they trust that
Stephan fry could do so. But that back line being
without your two starting center backs, then dropping Kim Keihy
midway through the first half and finding a way to

(15:30):
put an eighteen year old kid in in there and
still keep a clean sheet, that's pretty incredible.

Speaker 5 (15:35):
Yeah, phenomenal performance and I'm glad he got Player of
the Game.

Speaker 2 (15:39):
It deserves it.

Speaker 3 (15:40):
We're gonna take a break here, we're gonna come back

a few minutes away. Following as Sounders one Nothing when

sound Transit love when you take the train to the match,
but we want to remind you to use crosswalks and
obey traffic signals near tracks. Trains are quieter than you expect,
travel in both directions, and approach at varying speeds that
are difficult to judge. The amount of time you might

Speaker 3 (17:52):
Let's hot out the bowels of lumen Field, Seattle Sounders
with a one nothing win tonight over San Diego.

Speaker 2 (17:58):
Here is the head coach, Brian Sptser.

Speaker 7 (18:01):
The thing that we'll do with this game though, is,
you know, we'll obviously assess the first half and was
it more than just the technical breakdowns?

Speaker 21 (18:10):
I mean, look, go bid must have lost four balls.

Speaker 7 (18:13):
In a row, and you know it was it more
than just the technical piece? Was there a tactical did
we get something wrong tactically?

Speaker 21 (18:19):
Did we not cover something when they pray? You know,
we got to look at that.

Speaker 7 (18:26):
But what I can tell you what I might be
on repeat is Stephan Fry's the best goalkeeper in this league.
Because you can talk about goalkeepers that you know, want
to play with their feet and help and possession and
all that. But Steph makes every save that he has
to and their guy tonight didn't, now Hazus. I'm not

(18:49):
taking anything off Hazeus because it was a good turn
and Paulie does his job and you know whatever, But
Stephan Fry's the best shot stopping goalkeeper in this league,
bar none. I don't I don't care who you I
don't care.

Speaker 21 (19:03):
It's just it's it's a fact.

Speaker 7 (19:06):
And then you get like some of the some of
the intangibles. I mean Stewe Hawkins, I mean, come on,
he's he's he's defending against Chucky Lisano. He's he's doing
what he needs to do.

Speaker 21 (19:18):
I mean, look the kid. Okay, he might have made
one mistake or let the ball drop or you know,
it was a little slow.

Speaker 7 (19:22):
But I mean, come on, kids, the kid's great. Jonathan Bell,
I mean, he comes in the last game, does his job,
he's quiet, you know, nice kid, well rounded kid, does
his job, and we're we're we're so thin but those
guys come and do a great job.

Speaker 21 (19:41):
Jp.

Speaker 7 (19:43):
I mean JP comes in, does exactly what we asked him.
Win some tackles, get some balls, give us a little composure,
a little bit of Smart's brains. You know, it was
it was good, Klannie.

Speaker 21 (19:56):
I'm going to talk about a game kid.

Speaker 7 (19:59):
I mean, when tried to chip the goalkeeper, I mean
we had, we had a couple of chances to get
to do nothing. Maybe he should have slipped Pedro. But
I'm not going to kill the kid because Albert actually,
you know, top of the box and we need this
little twirl.

Speaker 21 (20:14):
If he plays Pedro right away, Pedro's in on goal
and do nothing. So I can't kill Kilanie. I can't
kill Albert because they put it in.

Speaker 7 (20:22):
But that was a gritty performance and that's why I
liked it.

Speaker 22 (20:26):
All right, Juda, thanks congratulations too. On the wind, I
wanted to ask just it seemed like you had Danny
and Pedro ready to go for Jyzeu's Can you talk
a little bit about just that that moment timing.

Speaker 7 (20:40):
Uh, it's you know, whatever happens up there, whatever you
want to believe. I mean they were coming off the
field and you know, fate has a way of being kind,
you know. Heyesus is expecting a child. He's got a
busy week. I hope this. You know this, this, this
goal starts him off on a good way. We needed

(21:01):
him to score. He needed to score, you know, to
get some of the fans off his back. I think
he's done a lot of good things and tonight's going
to winning goal. Just you know, it's the first. I
told him afterwards in the locker room, I said, it's
the first of many more goals for the Sounders, So
kudos to him.

Speaker 22 (21:21):
And then with Stewart that decision there was it a
game that you don't necessarily want to have Jackson kind
of playing, because at that point there was.

Speaker 7 (21:30):
A lot of great question, great question Jada Jackson was
only scheduled for X amount of minutes and it wasn't
sixty eight or whatever. Whenever the injury happened, Jackson couldn't
play that long. So Stewie's just going to go in
next man.

Speaker 23 (21:48):
Up to that question, I was wondering if did you
get any sense on the gravity of kim kiheyes, injury
at all.

Speaker 21 (21:57):
No, Well, Mria tomorrow.

Speaker 7 (21:59):
It's a left calf issue. And you know, we'll see
like he was stretching it. He's put a lot of
heavy minutes in. It's unfortunate that, you know, both kim
Key and Imar get injured in respective games. But the
resiliency of the club, so we always preach guys, step up,
Jackson will be better and ready to play, and you

(22:20):
know it's just next man up.

Speaker 23 (22:22):
You seem like all your subs really worked out and
you end up on top of San Diego. No, how
important is that in terms of moving forward and kind
of giving the whole thing just more confidence.

Speaker 7 (22:32):
Well, the team didn't have a ton of confidence at halftime.
I think the subs. Yes, they came on and did
their jobs. I talked about pitt Well, I talked about
Coloni and JP, Missoski, Pedro good.

Speaker 21 (22:44):
Those guys came on and did good. They all worked.

Speaker 7 (22:48):
But San Diego is a good team. You know, in
the first half they took it to us. I mean,
their possession is really good, and you know they couldn't
find a goal to you know, compliment all possession that
they had. But Mike does Mikey does a good job
and that's a good team, so credit to him. Made

(23:09):
it difficult made it challenging, But this is MLS and
sometimes grit determination home, you know, just one bit of
quality that we have Sometimes that's the difference.

Speaker 24 (23:22):
All Right, we'll swing over to this side of the
room and these the question. You're okay, George, coach.

Speaker 25 (23:36):
It looked like when Stewart came on that you moved
to street in the back.

Speaker 7 (23:42):
No, we always play three to two in our possession,
but it's a forty three to one.

Speaker 18 (23:48):
Just if you could talk a little bit about his
performance and the fact that.

Speaker 7 (23:52):
Great unexpectedly good. We have high hopes for him. We
have high hopes for him. You know.

Speaker 21 (24:00):
One of the reasons why we.

Speaker 7 (24:01):
Signed Kim Kehee was because we didn't think Stewart was
quite ready. But if the kid can put performances like that,
if he can show us that, you know, he can
do that on a consistent basis, then he's ready.

Speaker 24 (24:17):
Hi, coach, forgot you on the wind.

Speaker 4 (24:19):
What would you say are some of the key differences
between the first and second half and what did you
say to the players going into that second half.

Speaker 7 (24:26):
Well, we tried to change some things up tactically to
try and get past their press. They have a four
to three to three and block US six in the
middle of the park, and we weren't able to get
past their pressure, so we made some tactical switches there.
The second half wasn't our best in possession either, but
it was just enough. I mean, there was that, you know,

(24:47):
a couple of moments. I think some of our transition moments.
Obviously after the goal. After we scored the goal, they
had to come out and we had some more transition moments.

Speaker 21 (24:56):
But you know, I don't think this was our best performance.

Speaker 7 (25:01):
And again we'll watch the tape and we'll try and
assess it and figure out how we can do a
little better.

Speaker 24 (25:07):
All right, Seeing some hands on zoom and if my
eyes don't deceive me, I think that's Kellen Rowe from
the booth. Kellen, if you want to bring yourself off
mute and ask a question, we'll take it.

Speaker 4 (25:16):
Hey, coach, congratulations, Look, look two games you kind of
grind it really hard there this Sunday game against a
team that's once again higher in the standings. What is
your message to the guys who are coming in Obviously
a little rotation with the injuries, but they had tired legs.

Speaker 7 (25:34):
Well, the message is keep doing what you're doing. Look,
we get an extra day rest against there, but Kellen
to your point, because you know what you're talking about.
It's we got to assess and then if there's guys
that have a little nick or they've had heavy minutes.
You know, Alex was cramping there at the end, we
might have to make some changes to start the.

Speaker 21 (25:56):
Game against Minnesota.

Speaker 7 (25:58):
And that's just part of the a three game week.
So we'll we'll assess everybody on Friday and then you know,
pick a lineup on Saturday and we'll we'll try and
get a nine point week on Sunday.

Speaker 24 (26:12):
All right, we'll go to Felipa Machayda next from l
RA thirteen sixty am.

Speaker 21 (26:16):
Flipe, go ahead, Thank.

Speaker 18 (26:19):
You, coach Bray And you just said that it wasn't
your best performance, but at the end three points or
three points the second half, you had a Georgia Minongu
kind of ready to come in and you end up
at sending Klennie, What does Calanie offer to you different

(26:39):
than the Georgie minong When I want to know how
how was your defending? What do you think about the
team defending the last fifteen minutes of the game.

Speaker 7 (26:49):
Thank you, well, Kalani is a game player. He gives
effort energy. Georgie gives energy, but he's an attacking player.
I just felt it this game was so close that
I needed a more, you know, two way guy to
help Alex. Alex has had heavy minutes. It was just
a decision that you make on a game day. It

(27:10):
has nothing to do with Georgie not being good enough
to be inserted into the game. Georgia is a tremendous
young player, good talent, but this game was just Kalani
was the right choice.

Speaker 24 (27:22):
All right, we'll go to Diego next, and then we
see a couple of faults, which is fine, Diego go ahead.

Speaker 21 (27:27):
We need the mic.

Speaker 4 (27:31):
Well true, are you working at PARTI Freendo.

Speaker 9 (27:41):
Cols is.

Speaker 7 (27:47):
Cambia Partio and.

Speaker 25 (27:50):
Casa Congress on the win?

Speaker 7 (27:56):
Uh?

Speaker 25 (27:56):
Similar to the past game. We won this game with
some level of suffering. But there's a saying in soccer
that when a team wins, you don't change the team.
Are you planning on making changes on the team for.

Speaker 7 (28:10):
The sudden Yeah, we might have to, depending on how
they come out physically. And obviously there's going to be
one change because kim keyhe is out so that's one
change already and then rotation with some positions.

Speaker 21 (28:24):
I mean, it's normal.

Speaker 7 (28:26):
It's the benefit of again having a deep squad. Craig
has given me a lot of players that you know,
can do the job, so I have to use them.

Speaker 3 (28:41):
That is Sounders FC head coach Brian Schwitzer falling tonight's
one nothing win over San Diego back here in the broadcast,
both here on the postgame show, Jackson Felts Pete viewing
and somebody who actually knows about going to say that
was the quote, you actually.

Speaker 2 (28:57):
Know what you're talking about, Kellan Row.

Speaker 4 (29:00):
It's the first time I've heard that all year. But
that's okay, thank you, coach.

Speaker 5 (29:04):
Yeah, well, I'll tell you what I like Brian's comments
about He gives shout outs to all the guys who
come in off the bench. He talks about the grit,
he talks about the you know, next man up for
the team, and you know, really he's sending a message
to the guys that hey, when we come against Minnesota
on Sunday, we expect that we're going to do the
same thing.

Speaker 2 (29:23):
We're going to get another three points.

Speaker 5 (29:25):
So I love how he's really speaking to the players,
they're good questions asked, including yours, h Kellen, and and
then Brian is talking about what's next, right, But the
grit factor, right, the next man up factor that will
be ready for the next game. You know, we've seen
him through some frustrating losses and some very dominating wins

(29:45):
and he never gets too high and he never gets
too low. And it's on to Minnesota.

Speaker 4 (29:49):
Well, as I look at the other smartest guy in
the room here, he's writing down his notes, I'm gonna
steal a little note from you. And it's just it's
just it's just three letters there. But it's the DNA, right,
It's not the DNA of this team. It's not the
DNA of Spencer. It's a DNA of this club that
you find a way to win and that you go
the next man up.

Speaker 2 (30:04):
And it's done it for years and years and years.

Speaker 4 (30:07):
I've played against it, I've played with it, and each
time it amazes me. You know, I think about the
first one I always think about is in Austin. I
believe it was twenty twenty two, twenty one or twenty
twenty two. Yeah, five teenagers started this game and everyone's going, oh,
he's just really throwing it to the win.

Speaker 9 (30:23):
Here.

Speaker 4 (30:23):
It's a throwaway game, midweek, hot in Austin in the summertime,
and then all of a sudden, Raoul scores.

Speaker 2 (30:31):
And we win one zero. We come out of there,
and everyone.

Speaker 4 (30:32):
Goes, how did that happen? It was It was a
half of assist from me, by the way, don't want
to talk about it, but it was a bad pass
that got deflected right into Raoul. About loved this, but
you know those kind of moments that continuously happened for
the Sounders, the Seattle Sounders club. And if it once
is a fluke, two is is okay? And then three
it's it's that's now a habit, and it's it's become

(30:55):
the DNA in the habit of the Seattle Sounders to
to find a way to win.

Speaker 2 (30:58):
Yeah, it's happened. So it's not as dramatically as that game.

Speaker 5 (31:02):
As soon as you started to talk about I remember
the goal from.

Speaker 2 (31:06):
Raoul and he smashed it. He hit it so well,
forty one yards out. Yeah, it was such a great goal.

Speaker 5 (31:11):
But those young guys, and you know, you think you
were in that locker room, So that locker room must
have been just a lot of high five and un hugging,
and because they went in to win a game and
they pulled it out. And that's there's a reason we
say this about every fourth game, I think. But there's
a reason that the Seattle Sounders have the most points
since two thousand and seven when they joined the MLS.

Speaker 3 (31:30):
I have a notebook that I take notes in for
every single game, and in this notebook, in this kind
of folder section right here, I have two things. First
is a program from the inaugural Tacoma Defiance match back
on March eighth of twenty nineteen. The only other thing
I have in here is the game notes and the
lineup sheet from that day. Going back to July twenty

(31:52):
second of twenty twenty one, when the Sounders started five teenagers,
they set a new league record as defined by play
nineteen and under. No other team in MLS history had
done that. Other teams that started four, Seattle set the
record with five and that avious. Those five ended up
being Ethan dobbel Air, Josh Atensio, Reid Baker, Whiting, Obed Vargas,

(32:18):
and I believe Sam Dinnern was the other one, or
maybe it was Danny Wave but but yeah.

Speaker 2 (32:23):
Sam and Danny, Yeah, I means are still to be fair.

Speaker 4 (32:26):
That is also I believe, if I'm not mistaken, that
was Obed Vargas's start with the Seattle Sounders.

Speaker 2 (32:32):
That was his debut.

Speaker 4 (32:33):
So pretty incredible that that they were able to do that.
I mean, like we talked about the DNA and I'm
gonna steal your note again, but that DNA of the
Seattle Sounders we talked about it's not just this team,
It's not just Brian Spencer.

Speaker 2 (32:45):
It is the full club of the Seattle Sounders that
has that DNA of next man up.

Speaker 3 (32:49):
It was, by the way, that that debut for Obed
Vargas is he was fifteen years old with three hundred
and fifty one days. That's the third youngest player in
league history to make that debut.

Speaker 2 (32:58):
And look at the star.

Speaker 3 (32:59):
We have Pete what's that name on the bench right there.

Speaker 4 (33:03):
Jimmy Midranda, oh, Kelen Ra Okay, how about that bench,
Stephen Cleveland.

Speaker 3 (33:07):
Hey, Andrew Thomas was also on the bench that day,
Alex Villanuevajan Alvarez, Freddie Montero was on the bench too.

Speaker 2 (33:13):
With it. If we didn't have Freddy myself and Raoul.

Speaker 4 (33:15):
This has been the youngest lineup and bench that would
have ever been around in the MLS.

Speaker 2 (33:20):
I mean, Alex Villanueva is.

Speaker 4 (33:22):
Thanks still a teenager. Holy cow, Jan Alvarez, it was
a teenager at the time. Andrew Thomas was just freshly
out of college. I mean, this is a young, young lineup.

Speaker 2 (33:32):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (33:32):
How about that one nothing to win and that was
We still still have it in my notes and I'm
gonna keep it in here because we referenced it so
damn much. What a win that was for the Sounders,
and what a win it was tonight for the Sounders
one nothing over San Diego tonight at Luminfield. As the
sun sets on the stadium, We'll take one more break
on the postmatch show. We'll come back and wrap it
up by looking our final thoughts here to on tonight's

(33:52):
win and also Minnesota ahead.

Speaker 2 (33:55):
A couple quick notes before we do. First.

It's not a Saturday match. They actually have an added
day of rest. It's a Sunday match here at Luminfield.

(42:17):
And it's also a slightly earlier kickoff gonna be a
three o'clock kickoff against Minnesota United at Lumenfield this Sunday.
Our Provident Swedish premat show will start at two thirty
and we are back on Sports Radio ninety three point
three KJR FM, So we're on the FM ninety three
point three coming up this Sunday two thirty pre game
three o'clock kickoff.

Speaker 2 (42:37):
Folks.

Speaker 3 (42:37):
You can also watch the match on MLM Season Pass
on the Apple TV up and listen in Spanish language
on l Ray thirteen to sixty and with the final
few minutes tonight, I think the question that I'm having
Kellen Pete is a do the Sounders rotate or do
they just kind of throw, you know, Pedro back in
there and obviously make up for the kim Key heat
injury left calf injury. According to Brian Schmitzer, we'll see

(42:58):
how bad that is MRI coming, But do you just make.

Speaker 2 (43:01):
Those simple changes or Callen, do you rotate more than
that for Sunday? For me, you rotate more than that.

Speaker 4 (43:07):
Look, there's a lot of games being played, and you're
gonna have a lot of games in June. There's gonna
be you have an ability to give guys time at
home that normally don't get their starts. And for me,
especially with what coach Smetzer said on his on his
press conference, you know Alex Rodan, he cramped at the
end there, Christian Christian hasn't really.

Speaker 2 (43:26):
Had any time off.

Speaker 4 (43:27):
Albert had injury problems earlier on, so you can maybe
see that change. But I liked what I saw from
page Valla Vega in that in that second half. I
liked what I saw with uh Kolani, maybe giving Georgia
a run.

Speaker 2 (43:39):
Out and get him some confidence so he can kind
of come through.

Speaker 4 (43:42):
And then for me, it's the one that kind of
stays and is stagnant, is Hezus Ferrara. Because if you
have a forward and I've said this many of times
both on this in interviews, two players themselves, Forwards run
on streaks, and if you can find a streak and
you find the find in the back of the net,
becomes a habit. I mean, look the moose, right, the
moose all of a sudden went loose for five games.

Speaker 2 (44:03):
You let those forwards get their streaks and you let
them run it out.

Speaker 4 (44:06):
And so I think Hazus Ferrara is one of those
guys that has to be one of the first names
on that team sheet comes Sunday.

Speaker 2 (44:12):
I like your thought process.

Speaker 5 (44:14):
Do you put him up front or do you put
him wide and get Moose up front?

Speaker 4 (44:18):
You know, I think you stick with what has worked.
Has been two wins in a row now with Hazus
Ferira as the nine, I think you stick with him
as the nine. If you want to get Danny some minutes,
you put him wide or you just take off. You say, Hazus, hey,
we need to get every one minutes again. You have
the first half.

Speaker 5 (44:34):
Yeah, And I can see him going to Hayesus and saying,
I need you to play wide. When a coach says
I need you to do something that lifts you up.
But historically Brian does reward those guys who do the job.
And JP did the job today. Galoney did the job today,
Stuart Hawkins did the job today. He doesn't want to
have Jackson Reagan have to go ninety minutes right on Sunday.

Speaker 4 (44:54):
He's already, he said, he was already on minute restrictions
now on Wednesday. That doesn't normally change for those that
at home, especially if you don't play that number. That
minute number doesn't really change much in half a week,
and it usually doesn't change much in a full week
if you haven't played any minutes in a game.

Speaker 3 (45:09):
Well, given the injury to Kim Key, he could you
do something where you go to a three five two
and have Danny and Hayes, who's play off each other,
up top, and you have Kilani as your right wing back,
and then you build the midfield back from there, and
then you're able to say, all right, we're going to
run you know, Jackson plus Stu plus Jonathan Bell, and
then we have you know, knew who who can slide in.

(45:32):
It's an interesting thought of kind of the ability. Hey,
we've gotten six points already, you know, can we try
something and see if we can fit the pieces in
to make something work against Minnesota.

Speaker 2 (45:42):
Yeah, that's a great one. Kill. I'm gonna ask you
this question.

Speaker 5 (45:45):
Sometimes, coaches, you've got to manufacture a win, maybe for
this weekend. I do love that at Sunday versus Saturday.
That extra day is very helpful. But do you go
to the team and say, Hey, this is that we're
gonna get the win this time. We're gonna go three
at the back. We're gonna go two upfront. Does that
work for a player or does the player say, no,
I don't want to change our whole lineup for one
game from a four to two three one to a

(46:07):
you know a three five two?

Speaker 2 (46:09):
Right?

Speaker 4 (46:09):
Well, you play your personnel, right, You play your personnel,
and you play the team that you're playing as well.
And so there have been times when you think, and hey,
we we're winning right now, why are we changing?

Speaker 2 (46:17):
But then you realize, oh, because our.

Speaker 4 (46:19):
Two starting center backs are heard that our our two
midfielders have now played a ton of minutes that Alex
rolled On are kind of the guy we we trust
on this right side has been playing nine minute, ninety minute,
ninety minute, and we have another quick turnaround. Okay, if
we put five in the back, let's put some runners,
get Jackson some minutes where he has help with two
other people around him, if not four other people around him,

(46:41):
you know, put your runners on the wing backs in
Kalani or I would even say another Paul Rothrock on
the left, or if you really want to go for
you know, switching players out, you would throw a rebaker
Whiting on the left and let him run it. Out
so that the change is is something that we might
see and I think it's it's positive result if it's
not like we're sitting back in any way, but you're

(47:03):
getting the best players on the field for what he has.

Speaker 2 (47:07):
Here's the other thing.

Speaker 5 (47:08):
He said it during his press conference that they're gonna
look up Friday and see where everybody's at. So all
all of our comments right now, it might be Alex,
can you go tomorrow?

Speaker 24 (47:17):
Right?

Speaker 2 (47:18):
Yes, I can.

Speaker 4 (47:18):
I guarantee all the answers of almost everyone there if
you're a good pro. And you know this because you
have to actually look them in the face and see
if they're lying to you, because I was the best
at it, and I could lie to a coach's face
right there and say coach.

Speaker 2 (47:30):
I could do whatever you want. Yep, yes, sir, yes sir.

Speaker 3 (47:32):
