Welcome to the Sounders FC Postmat Show. Sounders FC Soccer
is brought to you by Delta Airlines, proud to donate
one soccer ball for every mile ran by Sounders FC
players this season through Rave Foundations one Mile One Ball
program and by Providence, Swedish official healthcare partner of Seattle
(00:21):
Sounders FC. The Sounders FC Postmat Show starts now.
Speaker 2 (00:28):
To final from lumen Field, Your Sounders and the Houston
Dynamos flit the points. A zero zero final tonight from
women Field, a match that we talked about it at
a halftime. We had to get more numbers, get more offense.
Going at the start of it and getting the entire
second half, we just didn't see it as nothing hits
the back of the net for either side and it
is a zero zero finals.
Speaker 3 (00:50):
We welcome you into the postgame show.
Speaker 2 (00:51):
Jackson, Feltz, Chance Fry and p Fewing here for the
next twenty five.
Speaker 3 (00:55):
Thirty minutes or so to talk about this game.
Speaker 2 (00:57):
And I think the way I would describe it best
chance is that of all the soccer games I've seen,
that was certainly one of them.
Speaker 4 (01:09):
Yeah, that was a little rough on both teams. It
just felt like there wasn't a lot of confidence on
either side of the field.
Speaker 5 (01:19):
You know, we got a little bit unlucky.
Speaker 4 (01:21):
There were a couple of deflections that could, you know,
with a little bit of luck, could have gone in
and we would have taken an ugly win like that.
I think when Georgie came in, he had a positive
impact immediately when he came in, and it would have
been nice. There were a couple of times when he
was cutting in and I just wanted him to just
run by guys. I think that would have been you know, hope.
(01:43):
You know, maybe you never know, but I think that
that would have been something more positive. I would have
liked to have seen on the other side of the
field as well, Paul taking people on versus cutting it
back so much. Just go for it and take him on.
Go to the end line, get the crossover, get a
corner some Yeah.
Speaker 6 (02:01):
It's two teams trying to find their way, two teams
that aren't really confident. I'm sure Ben Olsen, the Houston coach,
is probably pleased to come away with the zero zero
with a tie, get a point out of that one
on the road at Seattle. I'm sure that they are
with that but I think for Brian, he's going to
be disappointed that they didn't finish a chance or two.
They had a flurry in my opinion in the thirty
(02:22):
eight thirty nine forty fifth minute first half where they
had some chances and opportunities. There was one late in
the game and Albert Rusnik just ran into Paul Rothrock's path.
Paul had a good look at the goal and they
they both were going for the same ball. So we
are not creating luck for this team yet this year.
(02:42):
We are not creating that luck. And I say that
because we've given up some own goals. We had Charlotte
two nothing and then they end up getting the tie
and the goal against RSL RSL with knew who heading
the ball into the back of the net.
Speaker 7 (02:57):
Yeah.
Speaker 6 (02:57):
So so it's just we have not created the luck
that we need to create and he's got to keep grinding.
Speaker 7 (03:02):
So that I do think that we have been fatigued.
I do think it's gonna I hope.
Speaker 6 (03:07):
That we see a much sharper performance with San Jose
at San Jose next week.
Speaker 3 (03:12):
And defensively with another shoutout, that's good.
Speaker 2 (03:15):
I mean, you're Stephen Fry at the end of the broadcast,
and obviously I'll say that Tonight's Toyota Man of the
Match is game Art Gomez on Johnny, you know, a
really good play in the first half, dragging back in interception,
keeping Houston out of the back of the net.
Speaker 3 (03:26):
Your local Toyota dealers are proud to.
Speaker 2 (03:28):
Present tonight's man of the match, But it is the
offensive end. And Pete, I want to I want to
kind of pick out something you said there. It's it's
it's you said it was two teams. We don't have
a lot of confidence right now. And I think the
question that Sounder fans will be asking right now is
without Pedro de Levega still a couple of weeks out,
maybe a few weeks out, two to four, Jordan Moore
is still a bit out. How does this team and
(03:50):
chance I'll start with you, how does this team create
offensive confidence while still missing those guys?
Speaker 3 (03:57):
Because I agree that with Pe, with with with what
Pete said.
Speaker 2 (04:01):
Excuse me, I just don't see offensive confidence out there.
Speaker 4 (04:04):
Yeah, that's one of the most difficult things in soccer
is to have confidence. I know from my personal experience.
When you are scoring goals and chances are coming, you
think everything's going to go in. But you could see
tonight there was a couple of times when we had
half chances and there was a bit of hesitation. There
was a little bit of you know that last one
(04:25):
that Rothrock hid over reaching for it, not stepping into
it and confidently side footing it in. And there was
one other one in the first half that he had
where he hesitated. I think it was maybe Alex Rodan
on the back post went for a side foot low
to the goalkeeper. Goalkeeper makes a good foot save. You know,
(04:46):
maybe you just like put your laces through it with
confidence and it flies into the back corner. But that
is to answer your question. It's very difficult. It's not
something you can just say, hey, guys, have more confidence.
Ought to be something that you just do and then
it happens and then you go from there.
Speaker 7 (05:04):
You scored a lot of goals as a pro.
Speaker 6 (05:06):
My account was over one hundred, right, So how when
you were in a bit of a slump, how'd you
get out of that?
Speaker 5 (05:11):
You know what, you just have to believe. You have
to believe in yourself and you have to.
Speaker 4 (05:15):
Understand that whenever you're a striker, you're going to miss
a lot more than you're going to make, and so
you have to have that mental fortitude to just keep shooting,
to keep going after it, don't be afraid to fail,
let me quickly and all.
Speaker 3 (05:27):
That's very true.
Speaker 2 (05:29):
I'm wondering, then, if they don't have that mentality right now,
is it having some mental coach come.
Speaker 3 (05:35):
In and say these things.
Speaker 2 (05:36):
How do players go from clearly not doing what you
just said to doing what you just said.
Speaker 4 (05:41):
Well, I'll tell you how I did it. If I
wasn't scoring goals, I would go back to the basics.
I would go back to somebody just pinging the ball
at me, side footed and side footed and side foot,
and even if there were easy goals, it was just
getting that confidence back, getting that you know, feeling of like, yes,
I can do this and get the easy ones and
then the harder ones will come. But you have to
just get back to the basics. Or I'd go inside
(06:03):
the box with my back to the goal and look
around to turn and you know, just figure out where
things were at my angles and stuff like that.
Speaker 5 (06:10):
Go back to the basics.
Speaker 6 (06:12):
Yeah, you know, it sounds funny, but just standing two
yards away from the goal line and smashing the ball
into the back of the net, having it come back
to you and smashing it again, over and over.
Speaker 7 (06:23):
And over and over again, getting your confidence going.
Speaker 6 (06:25):
Your question that started with chance, I will say this,
I like the lineup today. I didn't see a hole
in the lineup right if guys are playing to their capabilities.
I thought it was a very strong lineup that he
put out, and Georgie was the logical sub, the good
sub his chance did. He made an impact when he
came onto the field. So I don't want to say
I don't think it's personnel right now. I think it's
(06:47):
getting the mind right and clicking a little better. You
said it at halftime, combining better. We're not combining like
we've seen us combine in the past.
Speaker 5 (06:54):
Yeah, and the first half.
Speaker 4 (06:55):
One thing I would have really liked to see from
hay Sewis is trying to do some some flicks and
tricky passes where we needed to have somebody hold the ball,
get people up the field, get them to join into
the play, and then develop from there. I think just
doing some basic stuff checking off of his defender, getting it,
just laying it back and then running again and developed
(07:18):
from there would have been nice to see.
Speaker 6 (07:20):
Because you've got better shape in the attacking third, right,
And so what what Chance I think is talking about
is he's giving up the ball in the middle third,
keep it and then get yourself forward right, get yourself
into your when chance and never teammates. The goal was
to get him inside the box because that's where he
did his that was his office right right right, And
we didn't get guys in their office enough.
Speaker 2 (07:42):
So and that's the perfect segue to my question, which
is are we using Jesus.
Speaker 3 (07:46):
For the right way right now?
Speaker 7 (07:48):
I don't know we have an option.
Speaker 3 (07:49):
To get Oh that's that's a sad answer, piece, No know.
Speaker 7 (07:52):
What I mean is I don't think.
Speaker 6 (07:53):
I don't think you look at what you're when you're
best eleven that you can put out and you're putting
Hayesus in best spot for him and for the team.
So I don't think we have an option to use
him any differently. And I wouldn't put him I personly
wouldn't put him a difference, I guess.
Speaker 2 (08:09):
I guess the question more is about is about how
obviously he needs to play at the nine right now,
like that's that's just a reality with Jordan out. So
the question comes the ways that you use him as
a nine. I mean maybe I don't know, maybe you
play with a false nine and have Hayesus be the guy.
Speaker 3 (08:24):
I don't know, but like I just it's it's it's
not working. Obviously.
Speaker 4 (08:29):
I think that we need to be careful not to
form any really strong opinions about Jyesus or the team
right now after a game or two. You know, it's
still really early in the season. They've had to make some,
you know, pretty significant changes because of injuries and things
like that. I just think that we need to be
a little bit patient, you know. You know, we didn't lose.
(08:52):
There wasn't we didn't take a bunch of shots against
us or anything like that. So I think just you
know what, it it wasn't a game we all enjoyed watching,
all right, let's be honest about that. Yeah, but I
don't think we need to press the panic button yet.
Speaker 3 (09:08):

Welcome back to Lumfield and the postgame show where the
Seattle Sounders and Houston Dynamos put the points tonight in
a zero zero drop.
Speaker 3 (12:50):
It's not time for our emeral Queen Casino Play of
the match, which is going to kind of turn into.
Speaker 2 (12:53):
A discussion because there wasn't really one we could absolutely
point to. This was obviously a d defensive game. Fry
came up a couple of times, Yamar came up. There
were there were I kind of you know, saw it
late in the game. Fry made you know, rather easy
save and.
Speaker 3 (13:09):
So well.
Speaker 2 (13:11):
And chance you pointed out that Yamar did have a
good moment in the first half, but it was you know,
looking at defensive plays for a Houston team that never
really pushed.
Speaker 5 (13:20):
Yeah, and Yamar did.
Speaker 4 (13:22):
He chased back and he tackled and won that ball,
which is our play of the match. There there was
also one I believe it was offside, but Stephan made
a really good save, right, really good save. So yeah,
you know what, sometimes there's gonna be games like this,
you know, like we were just talking about, they came
in just to take a point to steal a point.
(13:42):
They weren't really super excited about getting forward. That's very
difficult to play against. And if you aren't playing quicker,
which is what Pete just mentioned, I'll let him talk
about that. It's gonna be hard to break him down
if you let them set the set up in the back.
Speaker 7 (13:54):
I go back to that Charlotte game.
Speaker 6 (13:56):
The first goal, the ball that was played, what whipped
it was pinged one to Georgie and I think he
first timed it to Jordan Morris, and it didn't allow Charlotte,
who was here so on the road parking the bus
a little bit, didn't allow them time to get set
up at halftime of this, so they played quick.
Speaker 7 (14:12):
At halftime of this game.
Speaker 6 (14:14):
We you know, we see Craig Wible, scouting sporting director, Yeah,
vice president of soccer, general manager, general manager, thank you,
and he just said, we got to play quicker, and
I would agree. And I think a lot of teams
get numbers inside the box. They've got, you know, a
line of four maybe five, and that makes it a
(14:34):
lot tougher.
Speaker 7 (14:34):
So we got to get it out wide.
Speaker 6 (14:36):
If you can get crosses in where your opponent is
running back toward their goal. That makes it very difficult.
One the chances of an own goal are higher, and
two it doesn't give them a chance to set up.
So it's great that we get out wide. It's great
that Rothrock is on the left and he cuts inside,
but by the time he's cut in, they have got
their numbers in the spots they want to be in,
(14:58):
so that's not quite as easy. So I think if
we can play a little quicker when you're playing against
a team that is coming here and saying, yeah, let's
I again. Ben also will be thrilled to Houston coach
with a point for sure.
Speaker 5 (15:09):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (15:10):
And the other thing that we haven't really mentioned and
what we did well against LAFC is you know we
didn't I'd like to see the replay because we didn't
have a lot of shots outside the eighteen yard box
where we were hitting bombs from like twenty five maybe
twenty three, twenty four yards right and just really testing
their goalkeeper, especially whenever they put their third string keeper.
Speaker 5 (15:30):
I believe it was in good point.
Speaker 4 (15:32):
You know, just hitting a shot you never know what's
going to happen on the wet surface, and we didn't
really test them that way either it's.
Speaker 2 (15:38):
A great point, Chance absolutely so good thoughts on all
of this game for sure, and Chance mentioned that's a
good defensive play by Yamar. The play the Match is
presented by Emerald Queen Casino, the betting capital of the Northwest.

tune us in seven o'clock Providence prematch show, Chance Pete.
This is a San Jose team, and we mentioned Charlotte
that last segment. Charlotte's now three to one and one.
They just tore San Jose a new one tonight with
a big win. And it's a San Jose team that
(20:24):
started really well, Bruce Arena, Joseph Martinez.
Speaker 3 (20:27):
It looked really good, and after it looked really good,
it's looked really bad.
Speaker 2 (20:30):
This is a San Jose team where I'm sure earthquake
fans are asking themselves, will the real quakes please stand up?
Speaker 6 (20:36):
Well, I don't know if it's the new coach Bump.
I got a lot of respect for Bruce Arena and
what he's done. He wins wherever he goes. But yeah,
they come out gangbusters. They go two wins to start
the season. They've had three losses now, I know when
they had el Meda when he came to them. It
was a big to do that. He came to coach.
San Jose had a very very distinct coaching style and tact,
(21:00):
which was man man coverage. Wherever your guy goes, to
stay with him. That worked at the beginning, and then
it wore off.
Speaker 3 (21:06):
It certainly didn't work here in the seven to one loss.
Speaker 7 (21:08):
No, it did not. It was a good example of
a bad example.
Speaker 6 (21:11):
So you know, San Jose, I'll never count brucerine now
because like Brian Schweitzer, he's good at putting players in
the right spots, he's good at getting finding wins. So
and he doesn't like losing. None of these coaches like losing,
but he's one who hasn't lost a lot. So yeah,
Joseph Martinez has the ability to take over a game,
(21:34):
no question about that, so right now, And I really,
I honest, I'm not trying to play Homer here, but
I really think that one more week off, one more
week in between a game, will make a difference in
recovery and rejuvenation right for mental as well. And again,
I don't like making any excuses. Brian would not want
me to make any excuses for his team, but I
(21:55):
think you have to be honest that eight games in
twenty four days, flying all all over the place a lot. Yeah, yeah,
you're in Guatemala, right, you're in Mexico and then going
through what we just went through with four guys going
down with injuries, two guys going on to so it's
just a regroup time.
Speaker 7 (22:12):
And like Chance said, you know, I think when.
Speaker 6 (22:14):
You're not playing at your best, you're not a sharp
You just got to put a little more time. And
sometimes it's just players staying after practice and ping the
balls right. And so I'm optimistic about what we can do.
If this lineup starts against San Jose, I'd be very optimistic.
Better weather than what we're playing in right now.
Speaker 7 (22:30):
But I think that another week off will help him
get everything right.
Speaker 4 (22:34):
I would totally agree with that. And I think that
Brian's going to see that. He's going to know he
gave him some days off and everything, but he's going
to see that their legs were a little tired, they
weren't sharp, and I think that he's going to stay
positive as he always does, and we just need I
just wrote down some notes a positive week of training
work on their attacking patterns, getting guys used to each
(22:55):
other a little bit more, and then I would like
to see him work on some first time finishing, because
I just do believe in that so much, even if
it's just simple somebody driving to the inline, cutting it across,
coming in side foot, hit the net, hit the net,
