(00:22):
Sounders FC. The Sounders FC Postmat Show starts now.

Speaker 2 (00:28):
Well, ladies and gentlemen, Mama said, there'd be days like this,
and certainly this is one of those days that we
are not gonna want to remember. We're gonna wanna forget
real quick. We're gonna want to move on with our lives.
For every Sounder fan who came up to Vancouver, I
sure hope you have a Nexus pass, I sure hope
you have a quick drive back down to Seattle. For
Seattle fans listening right now driving around I five or

(00:50):
four h five or wherever you are, if you're listening
in your homes to the iHeartRadio app, thank you for
doing so. You are probably gonna want to forget this
one as soon as you finish our post game show.
As we welcome you to what was a very rough
night here at BC Place in Vancouver. Because the Sounders
lost this game by a final score of three to zero.

Speaker 3 (01:10):
That doesn't tell the whole story. Two red cards.

Speaker 2 (01:12):
For the Sounders, fifty fifth minute red card to John Bell,
fifty first minute red card to Knew who the knew
who red card. Both of them were dogsow, which is
denial of an obvious goal scoring opportunity. Both of them
in that regard correct Knew Who just takes down an
attacker as last man standing, and then Christian moved a
left back Jonathan Bell. A few minutes later he gets

(01:34):
a red card accidental takedown of a defender, but same
situation last man and ultimately Seattle was at nine men
and that resulted in two more white Caps goals, very
very good goal by Daniel Riels in the seventieth and
then a penalty in the eighty eighth by Demir Crylock.
But it is a three nothing Sounder loss here at

(01:56):
BC Place. Pete, I don't know. I think we should
start by being honest. I think we can get into
giving credit where it's due to a Vancouver team who
came into this game very ill and very absent.

Speaker 4 (02:09):
Uh.

Speaker 2 (02:10):
We can talk about Seattle post the red cards because
that there were some bright.

Speaker 3 (02:15):
Spots to talk about, especially Killanie.

Speaker 2 (02:17):
But let's be honest, my friend, our our our fan base,
our listeners, they're too smart, They're too well known and
engaged with this team. I think the sports fan in
the modern age is is smarter than than the sports
fan has ever been, with how much access to information, statistics,
et cetera that they have.

Speaker 3 (02:37):
And and ultimately, we don't want.

Speaker 2 (02:39):
To talk down to anybody, so we can just be
real that, Uh, this was a very poor performance. Uh,
it's discouraging. The two red cards and what happened before that.
We talked about it in the halftime. They were not
sharp and it was not good enough at fairly every level.

Speaker 3 (02:57):
My friend, what did you see?

Speaker 5 (02:58):
Yeah, tough day for this sound I feel for the
team and the fans who watched that one. Uh, there
are gonna be this. It's a tough it's a tough loss.
The the uh Bodwell's goal was very good, right, And
we go in at halftime and I think this is
a chance for the Sounders to come from behind on
the road against number one and do something special. Yeah,

(03:22):
and then and then, and I thought we started out
in the second half better and then Uh, the red
card on knew who and and the inadvertent one for
Jonathan Bell was was unfortunate. I see why the referee
called it. I might have called it myself. He did
clip his heels, yep, but it wasn't intentional. And so
that's a tough red card. So now we're down to nine. Uh,

(03:43):
team never gave up. I do appreciate that we had
a couple of chances. But and then you're right, Real
School was just such a tremendous strike. They got two
goals that were fantastic, a penalty kick that was tucked
away by Krailek and uh, yeah, tough day for the Sounder.
You know what, you look at it sometimes you say, wait,
this team's in first place. They have one loss, they

(04:05):
have five ties, they have ten wins. There's a reason
why they were in first place. That's a super happy
locker room for the Vancouver white Caps. And that is
a dead silent locker room. I would imagine in this situation,
Brian doesn't have to say too much. I bet players
are doing a lot of talking right now and venting.

Speaker 6 (04:25):
Or or it's or it's the option. It's dead silent.

Speaker 5 (04:28):
But yeah, that's a really tough loss for the Seattle
Sounders today.

Speaker 6 (04:32):
There was such optimism coming in.

Speaker 5 (04:34):
It's such a great place to come up to and play,
and it did not happen for our team today.

Speaker 3 (04:40):
No, did not.

Speaker 2 (04:42):
You know, you sort of talked about it in the
first half of this team obviously with the Vancouver gets
the goal in the fortieth minute, and I think that,
you know, we can reiterate a lot of things that
we said at halftime, and again, like I get what
you're saying, and I think it's fair to give credit
where it's due. And in Vancouver eighteen players on the

(05:02):
availability report, nine of them on international. Did you a
couple hurt, a bunch of them sick coming off of
the CONCACAFT Champions Cup loss that they had in Mexico
City last week?

Speaker 3 (05:12):
Credit wheres do they? You know, the guys who came
had to come in there.

Speaker 2 (05:15):
I mean it was, as you mentioned, the guy who
scored the goal, bad Wall in the fortieth minutes, his
first MLS goal. He steps in and is able to
score that, and then players were able to step in
and have good performances for the white Caps. But ultimately
the first half we just need to talk about and
be real about the Sounders in the first half and
talk about what we said at halftime, which is just

(05:36):
I think there was a lack of sharpness. I think
there was a lack of purpose. Specifically, we always talk
about possession with a purpose. There that was completely absent.
Sixty five percent possession in the first forty five minutes
and zero shots on target and you had little chance here,
little chance there. But I mean second minute, you know,
Ryan Kent gets around the corner, it's his one great

(05:57):
moment of this match, pops it over, eventually gets to
the foot of Alex Roldan who just mishits it. That
goes if he hits it instead of mis hits it,
and to go back to the net. Sounders leads one
nothing in the second minute, doesn't talk game is different.

Speaker 3 (06:08):
But ultimately we are correct.

Speaker 2 (06:10):
We're talking about just ultimately really poor performance and lack
of sharpness in the first forty five minutes and and
that kind of just doomed the team from there. I mean, again,
we can get into the second half after the red
cards where it look better down to men, but that
first forty five minutes we have to be real.

Speaker 3 (06:27):
It was rough.

Speaker 5 (06:27):
Oh yeah, No, you're right, You're right. Yeah, it was
not good enough, and players and coaches would be the
first to say that it wasn't good enough and that
that is maddening because the table was set for this
one to be a really catapult us into the Club
World Cup, and we were flat coming out and didn't

(06:49):
take care of it.

Speaker 6 (06:49):
And you know, you're right. I mean, if if.

Speaker 5 (06:51):
Alex smashes that baby home, which he had the opportunity
to do, then everything, all the dynamics of the game,
what you said about the international and the illness and
all that comes into play, and now all of a sudden,
Vancouver's on their heels and were elevated. It's funny what
a goal does to the emotions of a team. This

(07:13):
crowd was dead silent. They score a goal and it's
as if they just had woken up. You know, it's
not like Lomenfield where there's NonStop noise. But yeah, you're right,
I mean, and in the locker room, I'll be curious
to hear Brian's comments. He's always pretty h straightforward and
honest about it.

Speaker 6 (07:31):
He's going to be upset.

Speaker 5 (07:32):
He's going to be upset that we didn't come in
that the Sounders didn't come in and take it to Vancouver, and.

Speaker 6 (07:39):
We have a lot of talent on our team.

Speaker 5 (07:41):
We looked at this lineup, the starting lineup, and we said,
this is a very good lineup that can get get
us goals. So, you know, we got shut out by
a team that has given up twelve goals this entire season,
and yet and they did put out again, You're right,
it wasn't good enough. They did put out a team that,
besides Prezo, it was a pretty veteran. It was a

(08:03):
pretty They had all had playing time in the first
time and they.

Speaker 2 (08:07):
Had been ill, but ultimately those were those were still
starting level players.

Speaker 5 (08:11):
Yeah, absolutely, it was. It was quite interesting. Two of
the players walked off when they subbed out. Two of
the players walked off the field and went in locker
room hold in their stomach. So, yeah, this was a
team that had to overcome some unique, you know, bad
loss Cruise azol uh In, Conker CAF and then coming
out here.

Speaker 6 (08:29):
So it's a tough one. It's really a tough one.

Speaker 5 (08:31):
It's it's a it's a these This is why we
watch games because if we knew we're gonna win every
single game, there'd be a lack of.

Speaker 6 (08:39):
Right. But my point is is that.

Speaker 5 (08:46):
You don't know how a game is gonna go, and
so you you know this is yeah, I I get
what you're saying, but I mean, if you know they're
gonna win three nothing, every.

Speaker 2 (08:55):
Single sports listen, we have I take a break.

Speaker 3 (09:00):
We ought to take a break here.

Speaker 2 (09:01):
You mentioned Brian Schpencer commenting We're not going to have
that in the post game. I do want to play
that on Sounders Weekly later this week because I bet
it's very interesting comments. Right now at the press conference,
we'll quickly mention a couple of things. Sounders FC Socker
is presented by Providence, Swedish official healthcare partner of Sounders FC. Also,
Delta Airlines is probably to donate one soccer ball for
every mile ran by Sounders FC players this season through

(09:22):
Ray Foundation's one Mile, one Ball program. We'll get a break,
we'll come back continue talking about Seattle's three nothing lost
tonight to the Vancouver white Caps, including two red cards
in the second half. We'll talk about what happened post
the red cards, because weirdly, the Sounders were pretty dangerous
after going down two men. We'll talk about that next
on Sports Radio ninety three point three KJRFM.

Now back to Seattle Sounders Sucker on Sports Radio ninety
three point three kjr FM.

Speaker 2 (12:49):
Welcome back to VC place your Seattle Sounders falling tonight
by a score of three nothing. They got two red
cards in the fifty first and fifty fifth minute. And
you know, we spent the first app talking about the
first you know, forty five minutes of this game, which
again was it was not good enough on every level,
and Brian Schinzer will we'll certainly say as much. We'll
have his comments on Sounders Weekly coming up on this

(13:10):
station ninety three point three KJRFM. That will come up
on Wednesday at seven pm. You'll hear Brian Schinzer's comments.
We're also gonna look ahead of the Club World Cup,
which will spend a little bit of time on later
on tonight. But it is time for our Emerald, Queen
Casino play the match. And weirdly, after going down to men,
the Sounders actually showed a lot of fight and one
of the moments the where they showed a lot of

(13:31):
fight came from our goalkeeper Stephen Fry. There was two
plays you're gonna hear one of them here. Seventy third minute,
seventy sixth minute. Stephan Fry came up huge.

Speaker 13 (13:40):
Bull goes in towards the back six strike, great save
by step and Fry's the inches towards the thousand save mark.

Speaker 2 (13:48):
And Stephen Fry's great save in the seventy third minute
and then another huge save on a shot from distance
in the seventy six minute. That's our Emerald, Queen Casino
played the match. To play the match as always presented
by the Emerald Queen Casino, the betting capital of the Northwest.
Uh and imp, it's funny you Fry comes up with
those big saves. Obviously, Vancouver scores twice, but they're up
to men, you know, naturally. But I think I think

(14:09):
the the interesting thing was watching the body language of
players who came on in the sixtieth minute. You got
Kilaniks Rienzi, Danny mczowski, Paul Rothrock. They were running, they
were really working out there the fight that they had,
and you know, the I guess the flexibility of guys
of you know, Christian Rodnod was playing center back for
a while, you know, but just overall, you saw a

(14:32):
lot of hunger from especially Kilani and Paul to try
to make something happen when this game was still one nothing.
And I mean, listen, Brian will will love that fight
from those guys. Even down two men, even down one nothing,
they were fighting to make it one one.

Speaker 6 (14:48):
Yeah, well one that's the expectation.

Speaker 5 (14:50):
Yeah, putting some guys in to create something and do something,
and and that is who Kilani and Paul Rothrock are.

Speaker 6 (14:58):
Those are and and.

Speaker 5 (14:59):
Danny Massov's he came in with a bouncing his steps saying, hey,
I'm gonna you know, he's gotten some goals for us
this year, five, right, So he comes on with the
idea that I can get one, maybe we can get
another one.

Speaker 6 (15:08):
So you expect that from the players.

Speaker 5 (15:10):
They can't just walk on the field and you know,
pout and say okay, you're putting me in a tough situation.
It's an opportunity for them, so you expect it. That's
who they are and and so that's and that is
how it's supposed to be. That's why they're getting paid
to play professional soccer. As you need to look at
that opportunity. And and uh, you know players who come
off the bench, and and these guys have all come

(15:32):
off the bench in their time with Seattle. They know
that they've got to do something, and I applaud their efforts.
It just was pretty It was a very difficult situation
to come into.

Speaker 2 (15:43):
Difficult, indeed, and you have the mentality for those guys.
I imagine Brian will you know in the locker room
you mentioned you don't think he's gonna rip into guys.
Players will do that themselves. But I do think you
know that this is where moments where you can say,
you know, you want to earn more minutes, you want
to earn more time, show me that, show me the
fight because going down, you know two men, and even
in the second half you mentioned you thought they were better.

(16:04):
I didn't see too much better in those first five minutes,
but but the fight down won nothing and you know
the hunger and the way Kilanie was running it and
putting it. I think Brian can use that as a
tool to be like, man, you know, I'm taking off
Ryan Kent, Peter de Levega, Heesu's Frera and Albert Rusnak.
I'm taking off my top four attacking players in the

(16:24):
four players swap there in the sixtieth and sixty first minute.
You want to you want to stay on the field.
You want to not be taken off with thirty minutes
to go. This isn't like we have to worry about
a match on Wednesday, no match until the Club World
Cup game against Botafogo on Sunday.

Speaker 3 (16:38):
So you know, you can use this as an example.

Speaker 2 (16:41):
I think to you know, to say that's how you
earn more minutes is play like those guys who came on.

Speaker 5 (16:46):
Well, the bench is a great motivator and great teacher,
and so if you're sitting on the bench, it's motivation
to get off it, and if you have to get
put on the bench, it's a great teacher as well
as a reminder that there's a requirement when you step out.
So and and that's why we have subs. You know,
it's not for coaches to use to try to influence

(17:07):
a game, change a game, or give a guy an opportunity.
And yeah, tough, this is there's no way around it.
It's a tough game. Vancouver's better today. We didn't do
the job that we're Cape Bull of doing. Uh And
there's a lot of mirrors in that.

Speaker 6 (17:23):
Locker room, Pete.

Speaker 2 (17:24):
Vancouver is better today. And they were playing without probably
twelve of their best players. Well then that's a very
frustrating and sad and real thing to say because they
were so injured and they were so gone for international duty.
But they put a team together. And credit to yes
for their head coach, I mean the motivational aspect of
getting his team up for this and the backups he
had to play, and they.

Speaker 3 (17:46):
Were they were freaking great.

Speaker 6 (17:47):
Yeah they were.

Speaker 2 (17:48):
And you know what, you know, they were clearly motivated.
It's not standing job by by this white Caps team.
And they deserve they deserve the credit for sure, because yeah, no,
they they were They were so clear in a way
better than us today. And and I think that's that's
that's a statement on the state of Sounder soccer just
for today. And it's a statement on how good this

(18:10):
white Caps team is and how well they are coached.

Speaker 4 (18:12):
Yeah.

Speaker 5 (18:12):
Yeah, And you're right, and tell you what, they were organized,
and they were clinical, you know, the Patrick.

Speaker 6 (18:19):
Ewing, the Ewing factor, Yeah, exactly.

Speaker 5 (18:22):
And the point you take out Brian White ten goals,
no assists, ten goals.

Speaker 6 (18:27):
I love that.

Speaker 5 (18:27):
Ten goals, no assists, greedy, right, and and clinical and
it's finishing you take him out and uh, and then
the team elevates, and it is it's funny with the
psychology of it. You know, we to us against the world,
we're fighting, we're getting an opportunity, and then it's another
team coming in saying look at this what you know,
we're going to go kill these guys and and you

(18:49):
miss a chance and we all know in this game,
you miss a chance and you think, oh man, I
hope that doesn't come.

Speaker 2 (18:55):
Back to Hanus and what do you know that second
minute missed by Alex Roldan it does Hey, Pete, do
you know what's happening a week from tonight?

Speaker 3 (19:03):
Are we from today? It's in the afternoon down at Seattle.
Have you heard about this?

Speaker 6 (19:07):
Let's hear it.

Speaker 2 (19:08):
So coming up on June fifteenth, it's gonna mark the
one year until the World Cup, of course comes to Seattle,
in the World Cup coming to the United States, Canada
right here actually, and Mexico and when the FIFA World
Cup comes to Seattle. It's one year from June fifteenth.
So we're gonna try to celebrate that with something big
and celebrate the occasion. And we're gonna attempt to set

(19:30):
the Guinness World Record for largest soccer lesson. Now I'm
not sure if you can go help out with that,
but I need a few lessons in terms of soccer.
But we're gonna try to set the world's largest soccer
lesson on Sunday, June fifteenth, one week from today, at
three pm. The attempt is gonna try to gather a
thousand fans and friends at Peer sixty two on Seattle's

in a record breaking attempt once again. That's Peer sixty two.
Next Sunday, June fifteenth at three pm. Let's show them
how it's done. It's free, but you do gotta register

not in the afternoon, but in the evening.

Speaker 2 (23:52):
I remember we were here when the Sounders one Cascadia
Cup many years ago. I remember the last couple of
years Sunders had that great four to three win Yamar's goal.

Speaker 3 (24:02):
So many good.

Speaker 2 (24:02):
Results here at BC plays over the years. Tonight was
not one of the results, a three nothing lost for
your Sounders. Also, they were shown two red cards fifty
first minute to new Who, fifty fifth minute to John Bell.
Sounders finished with nine men down two men and the
Vancouver y Caps won by a score of three to nothing.
And this season, when the Sounders win, and they will

(24:24):
win again for sure, you'll win a free mix chick
in the next day, exclusively in the McDonald's app with any.

Speaker 3 (24:29):
Purchase of two dollars or more.

Speaker 2 (24:32):
Downald the McDonald's up today and check out the deals
waiting for you now. In terms of what's ahead for
the Sounders, the next MLS game isn't until June twenty eighth.
That's gonna be back at Lumenfield. So on June twenty eighth,
it's a Saturday, it's gonna be a seven to thirty kickoff,
seven o'clock pregame show Providence Swedish prematch show. It'll be
right here Sports Radio ninety three point three kjr FM.

(24:54):
That game again June twenty eighth, the next MLS game,
that'll course be on MLS Season Pass and on the
Apple TV app and you can listen in Spanish language
on LA thirteen to sixty. But that's the next MLS match.
Three matches maybe more, probably three matches in middle of that,
and that is the Club World Cup peat. It starts

(25:14):
one week from tonight seven o'clock against Bodafogo at lumen Field,
then Athletico Madrid, then PSG. Bodafogo a very very good team.
They are one of, if not the best team in
South America. Athletico Madrid a very very very good team,
one of, if not one of the best teams in Spain.

(25:35):
Clearly one of the best defenses across planet Earth. And
speaking of planet Earth, then it's PSG, which factually, right
now this is not hyperbole. Factually I can say they
are the best team on planet Earth. They just won
the UEFA Champions League. They won it over Milan inter
Milan five nothing. PSG is the best team on Earth

(26:00):
and the Sounders will be facing them in a competitive
match coming up in a couple of weeks at Lumenfield.
But pe this Club World Cup, there's so much emotion
involved for players obviously, uh you needless to say, but
for fans and for people in and around and certainly
for for for FIFA. It's a such an exciting tournament

(26:22):
and exciting teams that are going to be coming in
and and and showcasing games at Lumenfield over the next
couple of weeks.

Speaker 6 (26:29):
Well, it's the real deal.

Speaker 5 (26:30):
This is the world's game, right and and this is
a chance for the Seattle Sounders to represent MLS along
with LA and Miami as well. This is this is
what the world at the highest levels.

Speaker 6 (26:43):
These are the teams.

Speaker 5 (26:44):
So it's a tremendous opportunity. You say there's been some
emotion around it. There has for sure, But I bet
as we get beyond today, and as we get closer
uh to Sunday, I think you'll you'll find players will
be chomping at the bit to come out and prove
themselves right. And that's that is what this league is about.

(27:04):
It's always been trying to say, hey, we're a top
five league in the world. That's not been determined because
we haven't had opportunities like this, games that matter, not friendlies,
and so this will be a Now we have had
Champions League, so I'll say that as well. But this
is a phenomenal opportunity and it's going to be fascinating
to see how we play. And we've got a lot
of people on this field that it's going to be

(27:28):
the biggest.

Speaker 6 (27:28):
Games of their lives. Right.

Speaker 5 (27:30):
Even though we played in some MLS, we've played in
four MLS Cup finals. This is this is a game
that they'll say, Hey, I played against PSG right, and
I've played against a Botafogo. These are huge games for
these players. And you know, and the truth is the
way that the way professional soccer around the world works
is it's also kind of a showcase. What's Paul Rothrock

(27:53):
like as a player, what's Kloni like as a player?
What's Jackson Reagan as a center back?

Speaker 2 (27:57):
What if obd Vargas goes out and has a massive
performance with the world watching.

Speaker 6 (28:01):
Yeah, that's exactly right and day that is a reality.

Speaker 3 (28:05):
That's and everybody knows what I'm saying when I say that.

Speaker 6 (28:07):
Yeah, and that's not hype. And you know, and probably
adrian Na are saying, go play great, let us sell
you for fifteen millions.

Speaker 3 (28:12):
That's exactly what I meant.

Speaker 5 (28:15):
Yeah, And I'd hate to see I love all, but
I'd hate to see him go. But but but he knows,
I mean, he's trying to get into the Mexican national
team first team, right and be a regular in that group,
and this is this is where he gets to showcase that.
So and and for Colonni it's another you know, if
he gets a chance to play in some of these games. Everybody,

(28:35):
every single player steps on the field, and for the
older guys, the Christian Muldon and Alex Holdan, Steph Fry,
they all want to prove that they're as good as
anybody around the world.

Speaker 2 (28:44):
I hope, I hope you're right about that mentality. There
is a lot of emotion involved in that. There's obviously
stuff going on Sounders Weekly Wednesday, seven pm, ninety three
point three kJ R FM. I'm gonna obviously talk a
lot about situations and the World Cup, a Club World Cup.
We're gonna have Ari Lillonoil, who was on the pregame show.
Is great to have him on with Michael McCall of

(29:05):
AFTN and I'll talk with Ari again for Sounders Weekly
about everything related to the Club World Cup. Nico Moreno
as well, he'll be joining us to talk about the
Club World Cup. Should have a lot of coverage regarding that,
starting one week from tonight at lumen Field seven pm
kickoff against Bota Fogo, and then after Bota Fogo, it's

(29:27):
that's on the fifteenth and then on the nineteenth at
the Athletico Madrid. Then a few days after that on a
Monday at noon. I believe it's PSG, some amazing soccer
teams coming to Seattle, and hopefully we see some very
good games and some good individual performances, and you know,
let's let's just be competitive, you know, I want to.
I want to you know, be be you know, competitive

(29:49):
on the world stage. And we'll see what that means.
Who knows, they're very very very good teams in the
case of PSG, the best team on planet Earth. Uh
So we'll see, uh, we'll see what it looks like.
But very much looking forward to the clob World Cup
starting on Sunday. I want to thank everybody with our
broadcast tonight, Tony our engineer here in the booth in Vancouver,
Mitchell back on the site at KJR headquarters in Seattle.
