Mile, one Ball program.
Speaker 1 (00:42):
The Provident Swedish pre match Show starts now.
Speaker 3 (00:47):
Two straight wins and as the weather.
Speaker 4 (00:49):
Is heating up here in the let's get my mic
on first two straight wins and as the weather is
heating up here in the Northwest, so are your Seattle Sounders.
One nothing win down in Dallas read nothing back home
against Nashville and now tonight the Rave Green make it.
He's try to make it a streak of three with
a match down in Commerce City, Colorado against the Rapids.
(01:09):
Let me switch Mike's really quick boys. All right, there
we go. Welcome in Sounders FC pre match Show. This
is presented by Providence Swedish, the official healthcare partner of
Seattle Sounders FC should mention that tonight's match is presented
by the Western Washington Toyota GOS now, so everybody that
can hear me this time Sounders two straight wins. Marcus Hannaman,
James Riley, Jackson Feltz, we're here for the next half
(01:31):
hour to count this thing down. And Sounders right now
are coming off of two very good games, one on
the road, one back at home, three nothing over Nashville
last week, and we're feeling pretty good about things, James
about how this squad is kind of getting healthier, coming together,
getting results.
Speaker 5 (01:47):
Certainly, the last home game was exceptional. I mean three nail,
three nail, two shutouts in a row, going into a
Colorado team that it's prime to also get a result in.
But obviously they have to do their work. But yeah, great,
great upwodole Man him from the group.
Speaker 4 (02:00):
And Marcus, you know, we were on the call I
think a couple of games ago, and you know, I
think it's it's the momentum of this team. Defensively, it's
clean sheets, it's you know, yes, you're missing Jackson Reagan.
But at the same time, Kim ky Hee has come
in and to our surprise. I think that in the
middle of that Dallas game, and he's just rolled the
last game and a half.
Speaker 3 (02:19):
He's been good.
Speaker 6 (02:19):
Yeah, we assumed it was going to be Bell coming
in and we didn't realize he had picked up an
injury in warm ups, which is kite. And then kim
Ky's come in look super strong. He's got that experience, he's,
you know, a veteran, and so the team hasn't missed
a beat.
Speaker 4 (02:32):
It is kind of a crazy story that's now become
public from Brian Schtzer how it was in pregame warmups
that Bell took what it was something to the head
and he got to win concussion protocol.
Speaker 3 (02:42):
Yeah, I thank you for a game.
Speaker 6 (02:43):
Yeah, just picking up a ball out of the net
and somebody just wellied.
Speaker 7 (02:46):
One and oh that's it.
Speaker 4 (02:50):
Well, hopefully he is all he was obviously on the bench.
Today's all is good. But kim Ky he got the start,
and yes, last week in the three nothing winigans Nashville,
and off we go for the Sounders team right now
that is looking for a third straight win. Let's dive
into the delta, starting eleven for the Seattle Sounders today
and really simple there's not much changes, folks. It's the
(03:11):
same lineup as you saw last week and pretty much
the same as the week before. Fran goal Yamar kim Key,
he knew who your center backs in this three four
three Kalani right wing back, Paul Rothrock left wing back,
Christian and Obed in the middle, Pedro de Levega on
the right. You have Heesus Frere on the left, and
then those two are in the pockets underneath Danny Mazowski
(03:31):
and James. I like rewarding these guys. I think, you know,
three goals scored in the first half last week against Nashville.
Speaker 3 (03:37):
Yes, you guys guys that are that are healthy.
Speaker 4 (03:39):
But overall, what are your thoughts on what Brian Schmuz
was doing rewarding this team this week?
Speaker 5 (03:43):
Absolutely, I mean it's it's something a precedent he set
and had a conversation with the group about was on
the call this morning with him, and he just said,
you know, playing guys that are in form right now
and having competition for spots is great and that's what
builds a team culture. But coming off of three zero
win at home, you have to reward that group. To
be honest and let them do what they see what
they can do, continue the momentum, and then you have
(04:06):
fantastic experience in class and ability that can come off
the bench.
Speaker 4 (04:10):
He said, it's interesting. You have to reward those guys, Marcus.
It is difficult though, because when you have a talent
like Jordan Morrison, when you have Albert Rusnak, who's now healthy,
it's hard to keep those guys.
Speaker 3 (04:21):
On the bench.
Speaker 4 (04:22):
I know you want to reward, but that is an
interesting and challenging debate.
Speaker 6 (04:25):
Yeah, let me go through the bench here, Andrew Thomas,
Jonathan Bell, Alex Rodan, Cody Baker, Danny Lava, Joe Powell,
Ryan Kent, Albert Rusnak, Jordan markin as maybe one of
the best benches we've ever had. Right, you look at
that and you're going wow. And Apollo, it's one hundred
and fiftieth game if he plays tonight, you know, I
(04:48):
mean he's been here a while as well. I mean,
that's a pretty good I still have my one hundred
and fiftieth game from reading. Right, it's one of those
shirts like when you made that, like that's a that's
a good number, right, one hundred and fifty fe parents
and you know, I got a big one fifty on
it had everyone sign it.
Speaker 2 (05:02):
It's a big, big achievement.
Speaker 4 (05:04):
Well, JP obviously so influential in the middle of park
and defensively. It's funny you're reading that bench and we
kind of made this joke a couple of weeks ago,
but to fully crystallize this this joke into an on
air So let's say you have the team that we're
starting the same lineup, but you also have a team
that has Andrew Thomas and goals. Let's say your back
three is Jonathan Bell plus Yamarn Knew who.
Speaker 3 (05:26):
You have Alex Ruhl, Don.
Speaker 4 (05:27):
And Cody Baker as your wing backs, Danny and JP holding,
and then Jordan Morris up top with Albert Rusnik and
Ryan Kent in the pockets under three four three versus
three four three with the center backs. Kind of your
bench versus your starters. The question of who wins that
battle is actually an interesting question given the quality of
the bench.
Speaker 6 (05:46):
Well it makes training is probably very interesting because this
is a dilemma Schmidtz has probably every day right when
you're playing your you know, we've got a pretty strong
squad and we haven't had the greatest start this year.
But you know, especially with the last two results, especially
a three nail victory at home, Man, it's it's looking
up for us.
Speaker 8 (06:02):
No, I agree.
Speaker 5 (06:03):
I mean, you're gonna need to lean on your bench,
the fact that we have a deep bench and guys
need to be able to sharpen their teeth in competitive games,
and there's no better way to do so. Now reward
them because you're gonna need them throughout the summer, throughout
the congested schedule. And now you're going to have a
bunch of guys that have been tried and tested in
big games, and so without a doubt, a fantastic bench
(06:23):
and a group and a starting group that's capable of
getting another result away and that would make you know,
the Turkey, they would go for the Turkey three and
oh row, but it would be two games away, one
at home, and away games, as we know, are critical
to win and then you take care of business at home.
So I think it could be a great opportunity for
the group.
Speaker 4 (06:39):
I mean, James, you're you're a head coach with Ballard FC,
and I'm wondering, I'm kind of looking and both of
you can speak to this in terms of these difficult
conversations that Brian Spencer has to have for a Jordan
FORI and Albert for and Alex strolled on of like, listen,
I'm healthy, not on the injury report. You know, I
played minutes last week. And those difficult conversations for both
(06:59):
of you guys, I imagine been part of many of
them as players with Brian Schmenzer and sort of the
element of you know, hey, we get it. But at
the same time, I mean, this is why this week
probably has been very difficult for Brian, for Preki, for
Freddie Warrez, for that entire group of going to guys
one by one and saying listen, but.
Speaker 5 (07:20):
Yeah, difficult conversations, and we talked about that. You know,
the guy in charge has to be able to have
those difficult conversations, but do it in a way that
keeps the group and individuals connected.
Speaker 3 (07:30):
Don't get me wrong.
Speaker 5 (07:31):
If this is a playoff game tomorrow, I think you
go with your tried and tested group. You go with
the guys that have earned that trust and respect over
years and have that championship pedigree. An away game in
Colorado middle the season where you have some guys coming
back from injury and you have this other guys that
are in form and producing, then I think it's an
easy opportunity to continue and reward that group. But if
(07:52):
push came to sub shove and this is a must
win game, you go with the guys that you know
are trusted with the group.
Speaker 6 (07:59):
But it's a long season, right, and and a three
nail victory last week, right, It's like that's you know,
that's one of the probably where Schmidt started this whole conversation,
we're gonna need you like Morris coming back from injury,
who's neck?
Speaker 3 (08:11):
You know?
Speaker 6 (08:11):
And that that conversation I'm sure came into it. But
I do like when you know, you don't get that
full warm up right when you're coming off the bench.
So I think it's harder coming off the bench sometimes
versus getting a start. But I'm a goalie, so everything
is completely different. So, you know, coming off the bench
for a goalie is really difficult. For an outfield player
(08:32):
not so easy. You get a couple of touches here
and there, and then you can, you know, you get
you can get into the game a little bit easier.
Speaker 2 (08:37):
Goalie.
Speaker 6 (08:37):
The first time you touch the ball might be you know,
you got to be full extension for something.
Speaker 4 (08:41):
Yeah, exactly, And that's gonna come up when we talk
about Colorado in a minute. And we were also talking
to head coach Brian Schmizer this morning, and you know,
one of the questions that Danny Jackson asked him was
about Stephan Fry, and he'd mentioned how even in practices,
Andrew Thomas continues to push Stephan Fry. And you know,
Fries in the last year of his contract, and even
right now, we don't know the future for Stephan Fry,
(09:02):
but you have a guy and Andrew Thomas's pushing him
and and that kind of goalkeeper battle even in practice,
and that pushing each other, that's an interesting element. Even
though Andrew isn't you know, starting or getting a lot
of starts right now, it is interesting of the pushing
and needing to be ready to go because you never know,
right We've we've seen some really tough situations happen before
middle of the games.
Speaker 6 (09:23):
Yeah, and with like Andrew Thomas, he's got a difficult
mental thing and I was dealing with that a little bit.
You know, my end of my career, right, I'm I'm
there no matter what I do in training right, and
I had this throughout my whole career. But you know,
Stephan's gonna play like if he's fit and healthy, right,
because he's done it so many years for this club, right,
So it's hard to keep that whole competition for spots.
(09:46):
But also, hey, this is our guy, and if Steph
does it during the game, it's hard no matter how
good you do in small sided games and doing the
work right. So Andrew's just putting in his time now.
Speaker 2 (09:57):
And waiting, right.
Speaker 6 (09:58):
And you know we've seen with previous goalkeep right, they've
moved on and they've gone and they've found spots somewhere else, right,
because it's hard to display somebody who's such a solid player.
Speaker 4 (10:09):
For you, Yeah, exactly, So future we'll see what happens there.
But Stephen Fry is once again starting today's same starting
lineup as last week against Nashville at home. Let's quickly
dive into the Providence Swedish Team Health Report, which, of
course every week is presented by Providence Swedish, the official
healthcare partner of Seattle Sounders. FC Jackson Reagan still out right.
Hamstring looks like the timeline now is down to about
(10:31):
two to four weeks just using the math off a
couple weeks ago. Paul Oriole of course out with the
ACL this year. We are just about a half hour
away from kickoff down in Commerce City, Colorado, Sounders at Rapids.

Now back to Seattle Sounders Sucker on Sports Radio ninety
three point three kjr FM.
Speaker 4 (14:09):
Welcome back to the Providence, Swedish premat show Seattle Sounders
down in Commerce City to face the Colorado Rapids. Jackson
Felt's alongside two former Colorado Rapids and two former Seattle
Sounders James Riley Marcus Hannaman. Here we are here to
break this thing down ahead of Danny Jackson and Calen
Row also who was a part of the Colorado Rapids
for twenty four hours. They will have the call for
(14:31):
Sounders and Colorado coming up here in just under a
half hour. Let's take a look at the Rapids here.
This is a team that's four to two and three
entered the weekend fifth place in the Western Conference with
fifteen points, coming off of a two to two draft
down in Houston where the Dynamo got a ninety sixth
minute goal to equalise at the end of the game
and then in a mess had Zach Stephen get a
(14:52):
red card he has suspended fort Snite's game. More on that,
two to one and one in their last four only
lost being to Vancouver Top of the West, also beat
San Diego and Charlotte. James Riley, this is a Colorado
team that has turned some head surprised some people early
in this twenty twenty five season.
Speaker 2 (15:09):
No, they really have.
Speaker 5 (15:10):
I mean, I think they're establishing a culture, great coach
and Chris Armis who is also you know, a great
coach and a great player. So with add a doubt,
their backs are against the wall with missing some key
guy tonight, but they will be out and competitive to compete,
especially at home in the altitude.
Speaker 4 (15:23):
Marcus the the interesting thing going back to Zach Stephan
is the fact that they're now having to turn to
a backup keeper, a young goalkeeper and one that Andrew
Thomas has gotten time for the Sounders, and he's gotten starts,
and he's got an experience and if you need to
throw him in, there not a problem. Different situation here
with Colorado where it's a younger, more inexperienced guy. He's
(15:45):
very clearly as you mentioned the last same and you've
kind of just been sitting there and listen, I'm not gonna,
you know, get in the way of Stephan in any
competitive match ever. So that is a challenge for a team,
having to throw an alternate in there and start a
backup keeper when you haven't for so so long.
Speaker 6 (16:02):
Well, it just shows how deep our squad is, right,
and the strength of our squad. And it is difficult though, Right,
you got a young keeper, and but you know, sometimes
young keepers don't know what they're getting themselves into, right
without that experience, And so you know, they're training with
the first team all the time, so you know they're
getting that reps and I don't know a whole lot
about them, so we'll just have to wait and see.
But you know, sometimes these kids are you know, they
(16:23):
just kind of play out of their mind. They don't
really know exactly, you know, what to even like think
about what's coming up ahead of them. And sometimes you know,
they just a bunch of nerves and we'll see what
happens with that first shot press press them right, Yeah,
I think no that everything you know has got to go,
and I'm sure Schmeet's is telling them, Hey, every cross
we're going to test this keeper, test this keeper until
(16:43):
he comes and catches a whole bunch of crosses. Right,
We're going to be hitting everything on top of him,
tons of shots, tons of pressure.
Speaker 3 (16:50):
I like that idea.
Speaker 4 (16:51):
You just put them as much on the pressure as possible.
I mean, Zach Stefan was number one in MLS with
thirty eight saves, number one in MLS with one hundred
and five long pass because he's very good passing the
ball as well, number three in MLS with three clean sheets.
So not having him there is a big, big loss.
Sounders are catching him at the right time. Meanwhile, James Riley,
we have Josh Atensio on the other side, a guy
(17:13):
who was acquired by Colorado for a pretty hefty price
before the season started. He started a bunch of games.
We've eight starts for the Colorado Rabids and MLS play
so far this year. He's been a kind of a
big player in Chris Armas's midfield.
Speaker 2 (17:28):
He really has.
Speaker 5 (17:29):
I always liked the Tensio, I mean, and watched him
come up and continue to play and get minutes, you know,
with the group, and so I think An interesting story
that coach Smetzer told today was that Atensio met the
group last night at the hotel for their late team snack.
So he's still very beloved and adored and respected by
the group. Was able to hang out with the group
and play a little few card games and have a snack.
(17:49):
But without a doubt, sometimes a new environment is great.
He wasn't getting a minute here with us at the Sounders,
so you know, going to greener pastures where he has
an opportunity to get some games and compete is always right.
I think it's it shows the internal market where you
can have a an academy player come through, maybe not fit,
but they gave him a chance and he just needs games.
They know he's a great player. He needs games, and
(18:11):
they are able to trade him, you know, internally in
the league and get great value for him, and then
it's a good opportunity for him. So for me, it
was a win win.
Speaker 4 (18:19):
It's interesting to think of a player, you know, on
the opposing team coming to your hotel the night before
a game and like, you know, just butting up. I
know he's a former player, but still kind of butting
up and stuff. It makes me wonder if there's a
in this room. Any stories of night before games visiting,
not only with the other team, but just any stories
that you can share, James Marcus or that you want
(18:40):
to share with the potential people listening.
Speaker 3 (18:43):
Yeah, night before a game.
Speaker 5 (18:45):
Yeah, you usually have guys that you know from the
other team will meet you at the hotel.
Speaker 3 (18:48):
Stories that you shouldn't share.
Speaker 5 (18:50):
I don't have any of those at the moment.
Speaker 4 (18:52):
None that you can No, I hear it jumps.
Speaker 6 (18:58):
Yeah, I do have a story there we go when
I met when I first my first day at Fulham,
I met the captain and he goes, okay, you know
I'm here. You're here to press Mike Taylor and you know,
push him for a spot.
Speaker 2 (19:08):
Great.
Speaker 6 (19:08):
He goes, okay, you married? I go yeah, married kids.
He goes, okay, do you like to drink? And I'm
like yeah, I'm like have a beer like barbecues. I'm
like s great. He goes, do you cheat on your wife?
And I went no, and he goes okay, And I
went did I just uninvite myself.
Speaker 2 (19:21):
To have the parties?
Speaker 6 (19:23):
And he just smiled and looked back at me and well,
I'm going on thirty years, but I don't have any
great stories from England.
Speaker 3 (19:29):
So oh, that's a good story.
Speaker 4 (19:31):
Speaking of stories, in the break, James, you were telling
a story and I told you to stop saving for
the year, go ahead and start over with as it
relates to you both being part of the Colorad Rabbids
and you being a form part of the Colorado Rappids.
Speaker 7 (19:44):
Certainly.
Speaker 5 (19:45):
So, I'm born and raised in Colorado Spring, so that's
the first thing. But and growing up was a Colorado
Rapids fan. I remember going to the inaugural game of
the Rapids as a bright eyed I don't know, ten
year old, twelve year old, and I remember one of
the games I was able to meet Marcus Hannon and
I saw him at a bar chugging a beer after
a game. I think he had just won a penalty shootout.
But one of my earlihood coaches, you know, rest in Peace,
(20:08):
was much Meiernet because he at the time was living
in color of Springs and his son was actually playing
on our Chargers soccer team in Coloro Spring competitive team.
So his son and I, Travis, became very good friends.
And so I had the great opportunity to be in
MLS locker rooms as a ten twelve year old long
before and down on the sidelines with sideline passes to
(20:29):
watch the old school penalty shootouts where the used to
dribble up. And then we went to the after the
after the post event party, the post game party or
get together, and Marcus told is now told me that
they used to switch the venues. I thought it was
the same venue, but I just saw him and I
was a goalkeeper at the time, went up, said hey,
great game. He was awesome, welcoming, and I couldn't believe
how quickly he could chug a beer at the time.
Speaker 3 (20:50):
But no, it was good.
Speaker 5 (20:52):
So that was a that's my story for Colorado. So certainly,
you know, experience at all chairis but it was it
was awesome to be part of that.
Speaker 3 (20:58):
Marcus, do you always show ten years had a chuck beer?
Speaker 6 (21:01):
Yeah, sometimes he was fourteen, so that's that's legal in
some countries. So but yeah, it was great. We had
always had these great after parties and they were at
different bars. Usually it would kind of rotate around, but
you know, the fans could go down and you know
this was at a brewpub or something because they could
have younger kids that you know, it was always and
(21:22):
you get a chance to meet some of the fans
could come up and you know, talk to you while
you're hanging out with your families, and you know, it
was a great, great atmosphere, great club. I love my
time there, and yeah, it was a great club.
Speaker 3 (21:33):
That's fantastic.
Speaker 4 (21:35):
Turning the attention back to the Colorado Rapids of today,
should probably go.
Speaker 3 (21:39):
Over the names you're going to be hearing a little bit,
just for a moment.
Speaker 4 (21:42):
Raphael and the Borrow five goals this year, tied for
third in Major League Soccer. For that also has an
XG of six point three to three that ranks fifth
in MLS. Georgia Mihailovich seven goal contributions that's tied for
second in MLS this year. Also three penalty kicks that's
the most in the league.
Speaker 3 (21:59):
I all see.
Speaker 4 (22:00):
Obviously, still have to worry about Cole bass At a
good midfielder. Kevin Cabrawl no goals so far this year,
but seven appearances. Reggie Cannon former United States men's national
team right back. Keegan Rosenberry also a good player on
the wing as well. So a few of the names
you're going to be hearing from. Danny Jackson and Kellen
Rowe throughout the night. We'll take a break here in
the premat show. Come back and from the stories about beer,
(22:22):
we switched gears and we get kind of serious here

Welcome back to the Providence, Swedish premat show. Count you

Speaker 2 (25:55):
And Collado Rapids.
Speaker 4 (25:57):
Before we continue this specific talk about this game, some
interesting news wanted to pass along, as there is a
new sports psychologist in the building for the Seattle Sounders,
and as Stephen Lenhart, who many Sounder fans probably are saying, oh,
I remember that name. Played for nearly a decade in
Major League Soccer with Columbus Crew and for many fans
here remember him with the San Jose earthquakes. He's kind
(26:20):
of joined the Seattle Sounders as this sports psychologist, as
Brian Schenzer talked about in a press conference on Friday,
and it's interesting the element, the multi facet element of
the importance of having a sports psychologist in the building,
the impact it can be for players to have a
former player in that role around guys. We heard a
(26:40):
story about how in the first team meeting where they
got introduced to Steve Lennar. He spoke Spanish first, and
I kind of grabbed some guys attention, And you know,
it's interesting James and Marcus about the what having a
guy like that in the building can do for a
team full of guys who may have even grown up
seeing them play or you know, been around whatever, but
(27:02):
now here he is as as a.
Speaker 5 (27:03):
Part of the staff critical. I think it's a great
move by the Sounders. I think any type of sports
psychologist's mental performance coach is critical. You're tentially trying to
get high performance out of your players and help them
become secure and balanced and dealing with being in and
out of the lineup, you know, having them focus on
what they can control. You know, Coach Smetzer alluded to
making sure the home life was balanced, and for me,
(27:26):
going back to it as a player, that's when I
played my best is when everything in life was in
flow and in balance and you felt good. So to
have a former player on staff that's certified in that,
I think it's fantastic. In a player of his ability,
I mean, he was an absolute maniac to play against,
a brute and you always knew it was going to
be a cage might match, but a very good player,
(27:47):
a very effective and a very good player. To to
see him on the other side is great and I
know he'll serve the group and out of tremendous value.
Speaker 6 (27:54):
It's interesting when you bring in one of these outside people.
You know, psychology is massive for players, right, and you
think about you know, goal setting and all these different things,
and they can put it in a framework that makes sense, right,
so and you know, what are our goals? And I
remember the most successful team I was on with Redding, right,
(28:15):
we had these sports psychologists and guys were like, this
is stupid, We're not doing it. And you know, we're like,
oh no, look, if we could just we'll start planning
out each month, like the points and different things like this,
and there was buy in, right. Everybody was like, Okay,
let's just see kind of how this works. And if
there's buy in, right, it's amazing. And if guys don't
want to do it, it's it's horrendous, right, And it's
(28:39):
just some one extra thing and it causes these different things.
And it's interesting. You know that you spoke Spanish, because
I was going to go like a lot of these
Spanish speaking guys aren't going to like this stuff, you know,
they're going to like push back. And so that he
can speak Spanish, right obviously that you know that mentions
here that you know it really had an effect on
the guys. So hopefully that can get some buy in,
(29:00):
because if only if half the team does it, it's
not gonna work.
Speaker 7 (29:03):
Right.
Speaker 6 (29:03):
Everybody has to be kind of in involved and want
to move forward.
Speaker 4 (29:09):
Yeah, well, hopefully they all move forward together. And he
is now part of the staff and for a lot
of Sounder fans watching him play as a kind of
I don't know, the way you described was good with
good James, and as a fan I always hated watching
him play against our team.
Speaker 3 (29:22):
But here he is.
Speaker 4 (29:23):
If he can help the Sounders of twenty twenty five win,
that's all that matters. And hopefully we see the Sounders
get a win today down in Colorado. It's like one
more break on the premat show, come back, give you
our key to the match and players to watch. That's

both of them together in one answer. James Riley, I'll
start with you.
Speaker 5 (33:13):
My player watched this, hey, sus Ferrara. Thought he's been
in good form and he's a fantastic player. So it
can produce goals and sets up players very well. So
I think his experience will be key tonight.
Speaker 3 (33:24):
And play and Keys to the Match for you, James.
Speaker 5 (33:26):
For me, quick start tested goalkeeper early goalkeeper shots, crosses,
get end product in possession like.
Speaker 4 (33:33):
That, succinct tight, good Marcus player to watch Keys the Match.
Speaker 2 (33:37):
Let's cat all that stuff.
Speaker 6 (33:39):
Christian roll Dan, we got to have that experience in
the middle obviously the back five or four tonight right
with the center backs and defensively, but in Colorado we
got to keep it at nail right, Christian rolld End's
gonna need to organize kind of in that middle of
the park there and kind of keep everybody on on form.
Uh So we can because if you're chasing it in Colorado.
It's not going to happen, right. We need to keep
(34:01):
it at zero as long as possible and get a
goal on that front.
Speaker 4 (34:04):
I'll go kim keyhe because he's now has that starting spot.
Apparently Jonathan Bell is still there, you know, kind of
depth competition, right, continue to see good performances for him
to keep that spot.
Speaker 3 (34:15):
And I agree, you know, test test the keeper.
Speaker 4 (34:17):
Right, it's a young new keeper in there for Colorado,
Nozach Stephan. Lots of shots, lots of crosses. Let's see
if we can get one early and make it a
role like we've seen the last two weeks. As the
Sounders look to go three straight wins Dallas, Nashville, hopefully
now tonight in Colorado, Danny Jackson, Kelen Row, they will
have the call for Sounders at Rapids. It starts next
on Sports Radio ninety three point three KJRFM.

Now time for Sounders Fcsucker.
Speaker 23 (37:46):
Good Evening from Dick Sports and Goods Park in Commerce City,
Colorado for this Western Conference matchup between your Sounders and
the Colorado Rapids. With seven points from the last four games,
Colorado are pushing themselves up the table and currently sit
in fifth position coming into this weekend's games. Playing at
altitude is never an easy proposition for visiting teams, and
(38:09):
Colorado will seek to take advantage. Even with the names
of Mahailovich and Navajo spearheading this team, it will be
the familiar face of Josh Attensio who will get the
most attention from his former teammates for your Sounders, It's
been a really positive few weeks, culminating in a dominant
three zerl win last week versus Nashville Branch. Metz's message
(38:30):
is always next man up, and the team has responded.
Danny Massovsky has scored two game winning goals in the
last two games in replacement of Jordan Morris and with
Ferrera pulling the strings in the absence of Albert Roznek.
The Sounders' coaching staff have the very best problem to have.
Who to pick in the starting eleven. Competition breeds success,
and as Paul Rothrock clearly stated, the team's strength is
(38:53):
their depth and they are starting.
Speaker 7 (38:56):
To show it.
Speaker 23 (38:57):
My name is Danny Jackson alongside former sound under Kellen
Roe here in the booth. Before he gets to Kellen
for his initial thoughts, let's get you the delta starting
eleven for your Sounders and as mentioned in pregame, no
real changes for Brian Schmetze coming to this game.
Speaker 8 (39:11):
Stefan Freyn gole the back three of Yema kim Key.
Speaker 23 (39:14):
He keeps there with Jackson Reagan on the sidelines with
injury knew Who on the left, Kilaney Coosirienzi on the
right hand side, Paul rothrock goalscorer last week on the left,
and then Christian rolled on and obed in the middle
and attacking three of Pedro de la Vega, Jesus Ferrera,
and then the two goal man from the last two weeks,
Danny Musoski.
Speaker 8 (39:34):
For Chris Armas and his Colorado team, we're going to
have some new players added to the lineup.
Speaker 23 (39:38):
Nico Hansen starts in goal with the missing Bowdery and
Zach Stephen due to suspension. And for Nico Hanson, he
has not played in MLS, so this is his debuts.
Speaker 8 (39:48):
He'll start in goal. Reggie Cannon starts on the right
hand side.
Speaker 23 (39:52):
Two center back says Awadziam and Masu and then Jackson
Travis gets his first start in first game in twenty
twenty five. He'll play on the left. Oliver Lauras and
Josh attend to play in the center. Mihailovich and Bassett
sit in front of him, and then it's Darren Yeppie, Anna.
Speaker 8 (40:08):
Rafael Navajo playing up front. So teams get ready to go.
Speaker 11 (40:12):
Here.
Speaker 23 (40:13):
Sounders in their anniversary kit, green shirts, blue shorts and
they're attacking the goal as we look at it from
now that Navajo is on his knees getting a quick
little message high above, attacking to the goal to our
left with the Sounders, and then in their all burgundy
kit are Colorado Rapids attacking the goal to our right.
(40:35):
So as a team get ready to go, Colorado will get.
Speaker 8 (40:37):
Us going, Kellen, your first thoughts on the game and
how the Sounders get their third.
Speaker 2 (40:41):
Win on the truck.
Speaker 24 (40:42):
I like that Brian Smetzer is giving this lineup another
runout look. They played very well the past few weeks.
Kim keyhy sliding in as well.
Speaker 3 (40:49):
But I like that they're going to have some goals.
Speaker 23 (40:52):
All goes along flicked forward, not picked up by Colorado
as he knew. Who takes his first parts Ive touches
forward down this left hand side, near side the left,
try to rip it down the line cut out well
by Cannon, picked up middle of the park by Mihailovich
and Navao. Try to wriggle free of yea, my easy
said than done. Yemar just gets his pocket pitch just
(41:12):
a little bit of oho, got a toe in front,
gives the ball the way to Laraz. This near side
to Laras again inside it goes to Bassett, his brother
Sam Bassett on the bench, the two Basketts, proud parents
and the crowd as the ball gets hooked long picked
up on this near side and then across the center
(41:32):
and then back to this right inside to Laraz closed
down by Nuho. Good early start by Colorado, pressure as
they attacked the goal to our right, coming back to
slow things down, but callen Sounders full of confidence of course,
two clean sheets on the bounce as well, and then
then gets the nod to stay up front after scoring
his two goals.
Speaker 24 (41:53):
I like it, Damis Aski's on fire. He's two goals
and two games. And when he comes to forward, their
goals come in street. When you have a confident forward,
you want to ride it until it ends. And so
Danny Missovski looking for that other goal as well. When
you see this Sounders team going into Colorado, it's not
an easy place to play, you know, Dick Sporting Good Park.
They packed the stadium a little bit. The altitude is
not easy to play with, and so this early start,
(42:17):
positive start from Colorado is not looking good for the
Seattle Sounder's got to make sure you lock it down.
Speaker 3 (42:21):
Hold that possession. As Brian Smetra says, anywhere between fifty
five and sixty five percent possession is always going to
be good, and the Sounders want that high today.
Speaker 23 (42:28):
Collision on yamo as went up for the header, he
hit it out of bounds on the far side, went down.
Looks like he's holding his chest, gets pulled up by
there's my Fido bitch that pulled him up. Lavarjo just
standing by. It was a collision between Navajo and yamo
I was having a quick word. The young DP player
came in on loan from Palm Maris, then signed full
(42:48):
time last June to.
Speaker 8 (42:50):
A permanent DP contract.
Speaker 23 (42:52):
Has proven his worth fifteen goals in twenty twenty four,
five goals already on his campaign so far. When you
add that the full goals in Mahailovich, that tendem is
a good one two punch for Colorado and Chris Omas
As Reggie Kennon back from injury, knocks the ball down
the line picked up by the.
Speaker 8 (43:10):
Sounders and kim Key.
Speaker 23 (43:12):
He So we talked about Josha Tensu in pregame. Josh
was interviewed by the Colorado media ahead of this game said,
he's super excited to let's get back in and play
against the teammates, who, of course he played.
Speaker 8 (43:26):
Against hi day and day out, but a little bit
different in an environment like this.
Speaker 24 (43:29):
It's a little bit different. And look, Josh Atencio is
a Seattle Kip Bellevue kid. He wants to He wanted
to play for the Seattle Sounders and he got that opportunity.
Speaker 3 (43:36):
And when I tell you that playing for.
Speaker 24 (43:38):
Your hometown team, playing in front of your friends and
family is one of the best things that could happen.
But his his new career here in Colorado has just
rejuvenated himself and he's played every game he's you can
see that he is fit, he's ready to go, and
these games are going to be emotional. I I've played
a few against former teams. It's just a fun time,
right your friends off the field, but once you step
on and everyone knows this, yourself included that the kind
(43:59):
of the first and I want to kick you know,
I want to foul is my buddy, right, So it's
gonna be a fun game.
Speaker 3 (44:03):
I'd love to see the little matchups between him and Oben.
Speaker 8 (44:06):
And you mentioned it before he got on airs just
managing your emotions right. You're going to be fired up.
You want to make a good impression.
Speaker 23 (44:12):
Not just to the home fans, but also of course
to your former teammates, former coaching staff that maybe they shouldn't.
Speaker 8 (44:18):
Have let you go.
Speaker 23 (44:19):
But for him, it's been pastures have been greener coming
to Colorado with Danny Labor of course, played here nineteen
games on loan just.
Speaker 8 (44:26):
A couple of years ago. Came back.
Speaker 23 (44:28):
Well, we think it's very different player, a lot more confidence,
got that MLS experience and Notensio now is going to
get a good run of games moving forward. Colorado have
it with Lauraz picks it up, it'll turn out Oppression
knocks it forward to Navajo, yappy in front of him.
The young man made his debut at sixteen years old
(44:51):
US men's national team youth player. There's a little run
out in this four to two block that New York
Red Bulls have been known for. US Mahalovich turns the corner.
Good recovery by young Kerlarney just to get his toe
on the ball, goes over the endline. It's going to
be a corner kick here early in this game. Fifth minute,
(45:12):
Colorado nil Sounders. Nil Kellen Row.
Speaker 24 (45:14):
We talk about the youthfulness of Colorado and we have
some as well in the Sounders, but the youthfulness of
Colorado and then the experience that they have built into
that as well. I mean a young guy like col Bassett,
but also has played for many years, Mahalovich now wearing
the captain arm band, who has experienced with the national
team overseas in the MLS. When you have that experience
with the youth and if you can find it correctly,
it's positive.
Speaker 8 (45:35):
It's gonna be Mihailovich captain for the day.
Speaker 23 (45:39):
It's going to be an inswering from Colorado's left hand
side and it comes top with the six yard books.
Speaker 8 (45:43):
Headed down off the line by rolled On. Brilliant defending
by Christian rolled On on that far that near post.
Speaker 23 (45:50):
All went to the fast stick. Navajo headed it down
and it was rolled on right place, right time, another
corner kick.
Speaker 3 (45:57):
It's not a positive for the Seattle Sounders.
Speaker 24 (45:59):
At two, not one, but two Colorado players were on
top of that ball, free and a free header.
Speaker 3 (46:04):
Thankfully, Christian Moldon was on point in that post.
Speaker 23 (46:07):
Sounders two clean sheets in the last two games. The
Varjo goes down. Referee just getting in the middle. Lexis
to Silver comes in, just try to organize things. He's
a little bit dramatic. Buy in Navajo.
Speaker 8 (46:25):
To look down. Here's Vargas pleading his case.
Speaker 24 (46:30):
Just looks a little disorganized from the Seattle Sounders right
now in this corner. Something doesn't mean they're very good
at is these set pieces, and it looks a little
disorganized to start.
Speaker 23 (46:37):
Here's Mahilovich again's to be instruing again with his roy foot,
same side left comes in top of the sick header again.
Speaker 8 (46:43):
This time it's Bassett was inside the six yard box,
not challenge well enough. He heads it over. It's gonna
be a goal kick.
Speaker 23 (46:50):
Sound as remains nil nil, but two really good chances
from the corner kick.
Speaker 3 (46:54):
And once again it's that almost medium to back post
area that they're getting free headers. Colorado Raptors are just
getting free headers to find it. Thankfully, this one goes
over the bar, so calln bull.
Speaker 8 (47:03):
Gets pulled in here.
Speaker 23 (47:04):
And it's probably a question for Marcus more so than
anything at halftime, but is that's something that Stefan Fry
has the ability to come out and maybe put a
punch on. Is it just a trajection of the ball
just doesn't allow him to get off that line.
Speaker 24 (47:15):
The trajectory maybe, but I think what I think I
saw is that Colorado actually sat someone right on top
of him, and he's now being covered because he has
his defenders there. He's got a Colorado player in front
of him, so he's kind of relying on his big
players to make sure that that Hey, your job is
to go win the ball, and my job is to
going to say some.
Speaker 8 (47:31):
Kind of zoning in the backstick left.
Speaker 23 (47:32):
Paul Rothrock note of the tallest player of the Sound
is inside the sixth challenging that head of Ike Bassett
as the ball gets cleared by kim Key. He Sound
is standing some early pressure from Colorado, But as Jackson
Felts mentioned, there's a strong enough starting eleven on the
bench today. Ran Schmidtza mentioned in media we talked about
(47:53):
him with him today, asked a question about how difficult
it was to make a selection today based on the
fact that your top goal scorer all time, Jordan Morris's
on the bench. Albert Rosnack, of course, a sixteen assists man,
ten goal men last year DP and it's the misplate
but I think it was Masu there, just awkward by Masu.
Speaker 24 (48:16):
We talked about the depth of the Sounders and it's
gonna be a positive, especially coming into later parts of
the season. But if you can run out this team
right now that Brian Spencer has put out who's now
been two weeks and played great performances, can you continue
to give these guys confidence, get the the quote unquote
starters back to their fitness. That's a positive because then
you have a full roster, not just on the field,
(48:37):
but on the bench as well going into the later
parts of the year. When the schedule gets a little congested.
Speaker 23 (48:42):
Ball fifteen yards or so from this corner flag on
this near site Sounds attaching the goal to a left
picked up by Colorado down the line.
Speaker 8 (48:51):
It goes Yam in good position to clean things up.
Speaker 23 (48:53):
As Navajo just trots across the halfway line. Yamar just
slows the game down. Sounders tried to get a foothold.
Sounders coming to this game were about fifty five percent
possession on the season so far, sitting in fourth in MLS.
Colorado very different prospect, barely hitting forty four percent.
Speaker 8 (49:12):
Coming into today's game.
Speaker 23 (49:13):
They sit in the very bottom end of the statistics
chart for MLS in terms of possession. But it's been
a good run of games for Colorado, especially at home.
Last two home games have come away with wins against
really good teams Charlotte and San Diego, two teams and Sounders.
Speaker 8 (49:28):
Have already faced this season.
Speaker 23 (49:30):
One being the opening home opener and opening game the
season with Charlotte to two tie.
Speaker 8 (49:35):
As the ball goes in quickly to Masovsky just puts
it behind Rothrock. Maybe rothrot went a little early on
that run.
Speaker 23 (49:41):
Ball goes behind him over this near sideline for a
throw in for Colorado.
Speaker 3 (49:46):
That's a little bit of a miscommunication there.
Speaker 24 (49:48):
I was Paul Rothrock running a little bit, you know,
down the line, while Masovski thought he was going for feet.
Speaker 3 (49:53):
But it's it's gonna be a good game.
Speaker 23 (49:57):
So Nico Henson twenty three years old MLS debut today
and remind everybody. Zach Stephan after conceding goal the ninety
sixth minute, the last minute of the game, he got
two yellow car to the end of the game.
Speaker 8 (50:10):
Suspended for dissent for today's game.
Speaker 23 (50:15):
Of course, US men's national team player, former men's city goalkeeper.
Speaker 8 (50:20):
He's had a really good start to his twenty twenty five.
Speaker 23 (50:22):
Campaigns had to be solid because Colorado have conceded well over.
Speaker 8 (50:31):
Four saves per game for Zach Stefan.
Speaker 23 (50:35):
Stefan from two point four saves per game, so Sounders,
even the giving up a couple of soft goals throughout
the course of this season, have looked extremely solid in
these past few games and back to their MLS defensive
best that they hit in both twenty twenty three and
twenty twenty four.
Speaker 24 (50:53):
We're talking about rejuvenation in a career, and that's Zach
Stefan right coming back here to Colorado, coming back to
the MLS and going to Colorado and find his feet
again and finding his chance with the national team again.
He's he's really growing back into that goalkeeper of all
that we all knew and really enjoyed watching.
Speaker 23 (51:10):
Picked up on the left hand side of Navarre chasing
down a ball from Travis. He gets it far touch line,
the approaches the eighteen yard box, Clone standing him up
left corner of the box, tries to clip it in
and headed away by yam Are. Good defending by the Sounders,
standing strong as Colorado continued to come here as Travis
came on from offside position. The left back advanced trying
(51:31):
to provide some support ball from intensio. It's going to
be a free kick for the Sounders here in the
eleventh minute, Commerce City, Colorado, Dick Sports in Goods Park
Sports Radio ninety three point three KGr FM. Wherever you're
joining us, thank you. We appreciate you turning on in
the car or at home. Sounders looking for their third
win in a row. Stephan Fry ready to take this
(51:54):
free kick.
Speaker 8 (51:55):
But we talked about Stefan's Fry's performances last week against Nashville.
Speaker 23 (52:00):
If he wasn't for farreer At getting his assists and
this team winning three to nil, I mean his saves
in the first half and second half really kept the
Sounders in pole position in that game, and in any
other game, he would have got mant of the match
as well.
Speaker 3 (52:12):
Absolutely, And look, this is this is because you know,
Brian Smester said, we're almost used to now step and
Fry making these incredible saves, and they aren't to us
as fans and players and the.
Speaker 24 (52:22):
Seattle Sounders organization, They're not these incredible saves. They're Seph
and Fry saves and it's almost a little bit different.
And so to give credit where credit is due, is
you know, at thirty nine years old, he's he's probably
having some of his best saves and on top of
his his prime at the moment, and so it's it's
pretty great to see. And obviously the captain and a
leader on this team, when you can put that much
pressure and put the game on his shoulders a few
(52:43):
times a game and it comes through, that's a positive.
Speaker 8 (52:46):
Seattle Sounders, Well, it comes for can the Sounders find
a way through?
Speaker 10 (52:49):
Here?
Speaker 8 (52:49):
Plays the ball in Sounders.
Speaker 23 (52:52):
Having to chase, puff and puff a little bit. In
these first twelve minutes or so, thirty.
Speaker 8 (52:57):
Percent possession for the Sounders is tick towards seventy percent.
Speaker 23 (53:01):
It's been a really good start by the home team. Altitude,
of course plays a factor.
Speaker 24 (53:07):
Well, as you talk about that percentage earlier on in
say to Colorado forty four percent. As I get my
memory back and what I was gonna say, it makes
me think that it's going to be a kind of
a fast game from Colorado.
Speaker 3 (53:18):
They're gonna look to break.
Speaker 24 (53:19):
They don't care about having the ball as much, but
they want to get forward and they're gonna be ability
to score goals. And that's not a positive for the
Sounders because they are.
Speaker 3 (53:26):
Not ones to be very good on transition.
Speaker 24 (53:28):
They do have some holes, especially when players went out
of a position that does happen a lot. And you're
at altitude where Colorado is very normal in this and
Seattle is not.
Speaker 8 (53:37):
Yeah, funding a second wind is a real thing.
Speaker 3 (53:39):
It looks like the third or fourth win in Colorado.
Speaker 23 (53:41):
Yep, Colorado ourself course plays at altitude as well.
Speaker 8 (53:44):
So Sounders have already made that trick.
Speaker 23 (53:47):
It's that true that being successful at Colorado and AGAs
Colorado throughout the throughout MLS since two thousand and nine
of the Sounders have continued to find success. Colorado, of course.
In twenty twenty three was the home opener at lumen
Field where John Morris got a couple of goals in
a four nil win. Or gets launched log, headed down
(54:08):
by new picked up and chested down by Roth Rockers.
He tumbles over, but the board finds Farrera on this
near side the left is floating.
Speaker 8 (54:15):
Around trying to find pockets of space.
Speaker 23 (54:17):
Four assists on his season already, and he had a
couple from CCC as well, so six assists in all
comps already this season. As he finds his feet in
his new home here in the Pacific Northwest, It's talk.
Speaker 3 (54:30):
About a silent killer in Jesus.
Speaker 24 (54:31):
He always finds a way to get the get in
front of goals and and find a way to set
someone up very nicely.
Speaker 23 (54:37):
Yep, he's past the ninety goal contribution mark last week.
Second youngest player to hit that mark to new who
gives away a free kick would be Colorado possession Oh
slash for New Looks reason it would be a clean
tackle twenty years ago my day.
Speaker 3 (54:58):
But you've got two feet and it would have been
a clean tackle for you.
Speaker 23 (55:01):
About it in your day exactly, it was always having
nibble for the first five ten minutes and no fell
given and let's carry on.
Speaker 8 (55:09):
Make you mark.
Speaker 3 (55:11):
I think I've found a few of my marks still
from when I first started.
Speaker 2 (55:13):
In the league.
Speaker 23 (55:15):
It's a very different game now, you know. I mean
it's like the NFL obviously protecting the quarterback. It's become
a different game as well in terms of how you
tackle and.
Speaker 8 (55:22):
Things like that.
Speaker 23 (55:22):
A lot of good comes out of that as well,
of course, but nonetheless it's and throughout the world. Really
the game of soccer's change, but it certain allows the players,
like the Messes of the world, you know, the ability
to perform at the level they can.
Speaker 8 (55:39):
I mean is remember back in the day with the
likes of Pele and Maradonna.
Speaker 23 (55:42):
I mean, I still look back and think how incredible
was they played with such a high level of the
quality of the fields or the lack of quality of
the fields, and the way that the games were refed then,
and they could just kick lumps out of each other,
and those players still performed at such an amazing level.
Speaker 3 (55:56):
It's great for a fan, don't get me wrong.
Speaker 24 (55:58):
As the Sounders kind of played out of there all
done by Kim Keyhey here as they've kind of build
out of the back here.
Speaker 3 (56:03):
Look, it's a little bit different. We love from the
fans aspect.
Speaker 24 (56:06):
You get to see some great players like Messi, like
Bernaldo get protected and get to play for longer periods
of time.
Speaker 3 (56:11):
But man, you learn some lessons.
Speaker 23 (56:14):
It comes Clonie down the right handside, good break by
the sounds and transition tries to find the ball between
goalkeeper and back line and young Niko Hanson first meaningful
contribution to the game as the young goalkeeper making.
Speaker 8 (56:25):
His MLSW comes out wins the ball.
Speaker 23 (56:29):
There's a good transition of de la Vega turned the corner,
played the ball down to Colonel. He was a willing
runner in this three back system and.
Speaker 8 (56:36):
Its good early ball. As we.
Speaker 23 (56:39):
What could have replayed down on our screen, basket go
pulled back forever just holding it play not about failed
to give.
Speaker 24 (56:44):
When you think about that play as it started from
the back and now it was a little bit nervy
kim Key. He found a way to get the pall
to know who who played a good.
Speaker 3 (56:50):
One too with Christian Roldan.
Speaker 24 (56:52):
But once it got out of that Pedro de la
Vega found a good gap and you see Colony running
down that sideline. So it's a good start for the Sounders.
Can they continue that, maybe not the bobbling in the back,
but they can continue starting from the back and making
their way well.
Speaker 23 (57:04):
Tonight's match is presented by the Western Washington Toyota Dealers.
We get here in the seventeenth minute Neil Norwichien, Colorado
and the Sounders. The ball gets played in behind Ceph
and Fry comes out collects the ball.
Speaker 1 (57:16):
Well.
Speaker 23 (57:18):
He rolls the ball out to this near signs Paul Rothrock,
who mentioned got a goal last week.
Speaker 8 (57:23):
He's had a really good start.
Speaker 21 (57:24):
It was.
Speaker 23 (57:25):
It's some of a stop starting to his season relative
to quality and level of performance, but the only Sounded
to have started all the games this season. A lot
of that's to do with the rotation that the Sounders
had between conkerkef Play and Mls. But he's proving himself
again Kellen this season to be an incredibly effective play
(57:48):
on that left hand side. Two goals to assists on
his campaign.
Speaker 24 (57:51):
We talk about a guy with confidence coming off last
season where he was in my opinion the MVPU that
the second half of the season he was that glue
that kind of brought in the big players with the
guys who were going to work hard off the bench,
and I think he was that perfect player for the
Seattle Sounders last year.
Speaker 3 (58:04):
Can he continue that?
Speaker 24 (58:06):
Injuries didn't happen well for him over the offseason and
the beginning of the year, But now you find Paul
Rothrock having his time again.
Speaker 8 (58:12):
It comes to La Vegas towards the end line.
Speaker 23 (58:14):
He goes ball, bounces to Ferrara get a chance twelve
yards gide it over the top. That was a wonderful
opportunity to get his first goal.
Speaker 8 (58:25):
For the sound as he shakes his head in disappointment
as the bull came in from Dela Vega. It was
a little scuffed. It was a back heel by Masovski.
Speaker 23 (58:33):
Found the foot of Ferrera wide open, twelve yards out
dead Censa skies it over the top.
Speaker 3 (58:40):
It's one of the cases if you have too much
time to think about it, and he did. There was
no one around him.
Speaker 24 (58:45):
He's at the penalty spot, right in the middle of
the goal and unfortunately, you know, put it over the top.
It was bobbling on him. But he just had too
much time for It's gonna be his first goal. He
just needs to find a way to not think about
it and just put.
Speaker 3 (58:55):
It in the back of the net.
Speaker 23 (58:56):
They just need a goal off your Backsid, It doesn't
matter how it comes from. Just need to get that
monkey off his back.
Speaker 24 (59:02):
He's a learned from Danny Massovski. Except it did whatever.
Hope it gets right place, right time.
Speaker 23 (59:07):
Yeah, right place, right towns no matter how clearance buying
the Colorado back line on this near side, quickly thrown
in by Rothrock Neil Neil nineteenth minute here in Colorado,
Sounders starting to find themselves back into the game as
Lorez picks it off Ferrera just outside his eighteen yard box,
turns out of pressure, is able to roll it from
center to the far side the left to young Scott
(59:31):
because he rolls down comes back to Larrez, so stow,
I haven't seen much of just Tencio so far.
Speaker 8 (59:38):
As we approach a twenty minute mark.
Speaker 24 (59:42):
It's a good thing for the Sounders, Like you're hoping
that Josh Atenzio doesn't light up, because when you have
these kind of games, it's it's one of those emotional
games that can be high or low, and you're hoping,
we want Josted to play well, but we're hoping if
not a high.
Speaker 2 (59:54):
Yeah.
Speaker 23 (59:54):
Brian talked about how Josh Vizzits did the team yesterday
for the team snack in the evening, played some cards
with his old teammates.
Speaker 8 (01:00:04):
Everyone was happy to see him.
Speaker 23 (01:00:05):
It's an interesting thing the world of sports, where one
minute you're sitting next to.
Speaker 8 (01:00:08):
A player in a locker room and you've been there before.
I've been there before. When suddenly you know, within a
day you're in a completely different place.
Speaker 3 (01:00:17):
It's pretty incredible.
Speaker 24 (01:00:18):
And look when there's there's that old saying that once
you step across that line, you're no longer friends, and
that is that is true for every sport about a
spoka is, especially soccer.
Speaker 3 (01:00:28):
You'll see it just Tinsil will turn it off.
Speaker 23 (01:00:30):
That's gonna be a yellow card, and I think it's
a Masofski. That's the second time in three games. I
remember Massofski getting a silly yellow card for kicking the
ball away as well. It was a couple of weeks ago,
and again just as a foul, innocuous fowl.
Speaker 8 (01:00:46):
And then he kicks the.
Speaker 23 (01:00:46):
Ball away against the side hoardings and the referee is
having none of that gives him the yellow card.
Speaker 8 (01:00:51):
And again just those are the things that Brian Schmitz
will shake his head on because Musovski has performed so
well in the last couple of weeks.
Speaker 23 (01:00:58):
Don't exactly what Brian has w wanted. Things like that
put him now into the gun twenty minutes on a
yellow cart.
Speaker 24 (01:01:04):
We're talking about emotions with Josh Atensio, but it comes
with every player.
Speaker 3 (01:01:07):
You got to keep your.
Speaker 24 (01:01:08):
Emotions, and especially a guy like Danimus Afti who's getting
another chance to stay in front of the lead and
goal scorer of Seattle Sounders who's coming back from fitness.
Speaker 8 (01:01:16):
Don't give the coach.
Speaker 24 (01:01:17):
Any option or any opportunity to take you off. And
that's one reason right there that you said. Brian Smester's
shaking his head going you're giving it.
Speaker 3 (01:01:24):
You make it too easy for me.
Speaker 23 (01:01:26):
Well sound as FC Soker is presented by Provident, Swedish
official healthcare partner of Sounders FC nil nil here in
Colorado mentioned tough place to play with the altitude Sounders
just finding their feet, getting their.
Speaker 8 (01:01:39):
Second, third or fourth wind.
Speaker 23 (01:01:41):
It's been the first twenty minutes dominated by Colorado. One
shot on target in the game so far came from Colorado.
Came from the corner kick from Navajo cleared off the.
Speaker 8 (01:01:52):
Line by Christian rolled On.
Speaker 23 (01:01:54):
It's another important play by Christiania's such an effect tip
game last week.
Speaker 8 (01:02:01):
Just nicking the ball in vital areas in the attacking
half of the field. As Kilane just.
Speaker 23 (01:02:06):
Chases down Jackson Travis, He's trying to turn the corner.
Good defending by Kilani as the man rolled on.
Speaker 8 (01:02:12):
Does pick it up, comes off.
Speaker 23 (01:02:13):
Lorez came across the defense far Syd The Sounder is right,
it's gonna be a throwing.
Speaker 3 (01:02:19):
As you see the Colorado plays kind of come to fruition.
Speaker 24 (01:02:23):
You're seeing a lot of longer balls and then second
balls getting one. Can the Sounders like an Ovid Vargas
a Christian Roaldon, can they make sure to find that
gap where if your center back is winning the ball,
you're finding the second ball and you can continue to
keep possession because if not, Colorado's got two or three
guys on them.
Speaker 23 (01:02:41):
Eleavega turning out a pressure, well, he's done that so
effectively as coming back from injury last week. He was
able to absorb pressure a couple of different times important times,
won some fouls deep in the Sounders defensive half of
the field, and I asked Sean Henderson yesterday is them
R guess.
Speaker 8 (01:02:58):
His pocket picked? It comes Cole Bassett slides it's the
post as Jemo just.
Speaker 23 (01:03:05):
Puts his arms up and his hands to apologize to
his teammates.
Speaker 8 (01:03:09):
His pocket was picked in a incredibly difficult place, no
real support from behind. Bassett picked it up, drove into
the eighteen yard box, hit the side of the post,
goes out for a goal kick for the Sounders and
they get to breathe again.
Speaker 3 (01:03:24):
It's a bit sloppy from ye Mar. He didn't have
much help on that right side.
Speaker 24 (01:03:27):
But he's got to know that there's there's pressure coming
from the left, there was pressure coming from the middle.
He's got to get it off his feet a little quicker.
He is the last guy and so you see the
chance there from Cole Bassett.
Speaker 3 (01:03:37):
Just unfortunate. I'm hoping that Steff knew where his post was,
but just it nicks the outside of the post.
Speaker 24 (01:03:42):
That's another warning signal to the Seattle Sounders. Hey, you
gotta make sure you're on top of your stuff.
Speaker 8 (01:03:47):
Yeap.
Speaker 23 (01:03:47):
Cole Bassett from twenty twenty four nine goal, seven assists,
one on one this year, being an ever present in
Colorado for last number of years.
Speaker 8 (01:03:57):
Youngest signing in.
Speaker 23 (01:03:58):
Colorado history from two thousand and eight is a homegrown
at seventeen years old. Let's spent some time in Europe,
but fine, ord Well coming back really establishing himself as
a regular.
Speaker 8 (01:04:11):
As Yamar crunches.
Speaker 23 (01:04:13):
Through on col Bassett, maybe it's a little bit of
revenge after he's got his pocket picked on the halfway
then not a bad place to give up a found
no yellow card.
Speaker 24 (01:04:22):
That one's tough for defenders, and most defenders watching that
going well, Yamar said it look I got all the ball,
and then he continued into me.
Speaker 3 (01:04:30):
You know it's a tough one for referees. I can
see how it's called. But I know all the defenders
watching that play right there are going it's not a
foul momentum.
Speaker 8 (01:04:38):
How you're supposed to stop yourself. It's like these three
hundred and fifty pounds linemen getting hitting the quarterback and
they're running full speed. How they're supposed to stop.
Speaker 23 (01:04:44):
So he ran into physics here exactly it comes col
Bassett just miss a chance, just a moment or so ago,
just spins past Colonia. But Colonie is a good job
coming back, drops on into his right foot and the
left hand side. It goes inside the box to Nevau
back to call Bassett top of the box. Good step
by barath rog gets a toe in front of it
and just clears his lines.
Speaker 8 (01:05:03):
Goes down this near.
Speaker 23 (01:05:04):
Side, right in front of Chris Armas as he tries
to motion his team and his organization of his block
system in the midfield.
Speaker 8 (01:05:13):
Baul goes in worn by Kimki evantage given by the referee.
Speaker 7 (01:05:16):
It was yappy.
Speaker 23 (01:05:17):
You got foul by Kim Colorado retained possession. Mahailovich ball
goes into Yappi. He's able to play back to Mahilo
his top of the box played events. I knew who
was a aggressive foul or challenged by Jemar. Again, referee
gave an advantage. You almost scooted through but cleared by
the Sounders. Back in play and Colorado half possession.
Speaker 24 (01:05:40):
You talk about half chances and look, the Seattle Sounders
are a little bit under pressure. It's gonna happen, especially
away games in a place like Colorado, and Colorado team
who's up for.
Speaker 3 (01:05:48):
The game at the moment.
Speaker 24 (01:05:49):
But you got to make sure that you get the
clearances that are corrected at the moment that's happening.
Speaker 23 (01:05:54):
DeMar get a little erratic time, slices the ball and
he finds the foot of Mahilovich top of the box,
rolls it to Reggie kennon this right hand side in support,
b to Lauras, rips it in towards the backstick, can't
reach Navar bounces through goal kick Sounders here in the
twenty fifth minute, Colorado nil, Sounds nil Killimber.
Speaker 3 (01:06:12):
I'm gonna talk about these kind of games away altitude.
We're gonna continue to.
Speaker 24 (01:06:15):
Say it, but you've got to make sure that the
little things are done correctly. I used to tell my players,
you got to have the two steps, whether it be
two steps to get space for yourself or two steps
two steps when your player has the ball so you
can get a little bit closer and not make it
as easy. I mean, Lauras there had acres of space
to just play a ball inside the box and thankfully
there was no one there on the back post. But
south of Seattle, Sounder's just got to be a little
bit more and there's two steps.
Speaker 8 (01:06:37):
Two games last year against Colorado.
Speaker 23 (01:06:39):
Last game was towards of the season, beginning of October,
one nil win here in Colorado, and then there was
a one to one tiet Lumen back in the first
handful of weeks of the twenty twenty four season ral
Ruy Diaz goal in that first half. Sounders a dick
sports in Goods part. I've had good success ninety six
(01:07:01):
and three here in regular season play, and the Sounders
of then, well this season if they if you can
find a way to nick a goal in the first
half three zero to one when scoring first for the Sounders.
Speaker 8 (01:07:18):
Of course, it was a rampant first half. Last week
against Nashville, Dela Vega roth Rock of course were the
second and third goal.
Speaker 24 (01:07:31):
These games were always fun for me because it was
it was almost a mental battle, right you were tired,
you were away.
Speaker 3 (01:07:37):
For me when I was in New England, it was
a long flight.
Speaker 24 (01:07:40):
It was it was a fun time for me because
I got to use my brain more than my legs
and then I just pushed my legs.
Speaker 3 (01:07:44):
As far as I could go.
Speaker 23 (01:07:47):
Sounds again defending here Yepp he has it center the park,
goes out to the far side the left of Cole
Bassett drops on his right foot, good defending by Kilany
back comes Dela Vega Schmetzer. Well like that as Massa's
he gets fouled into. It's to be a little bit carefully.
Just lashed out for a second to young Jackson Travis.
(01:08:08):
It's on a yellow coln of course is Musovski and
you gotta think Kellen as we look down on this
on the screen to see the foul it was Massosk
just have a little lash out. But it may even
make Bryan Schmetz's decision about who to bring on in
terms of Jordan Marius at what point of the game
with Massoski sitting on a yellow card and you know,
maybe a little bit lucky on that one.
Speaker 3 (01:08:28):
A little bit unlucky.
Speaker 24 (01:08:29):
I think he did really well to put his body
in the way make sure that Travis fouled him.
Speaker 3 (01:08:33):
But we talked about it earlier.
Speaker 24 (01:08:34):
With that yellow card, he's giving Brent Schenzer an easy
out to get him off a little earlier.
Speaker 23 (01:08:39):
Yeapnvar has it far side the left, able to pick
the ball up off Ye Mars, He just shadows him
out back to the Lauraz It goes drops it back
to josh A Tensia.
Speaker 8 (01:08:49):
Its like the game.
Speaker 23 (01:08:50):
Has bypassed the middle of the park little bit. Vargas
hasn't been too involved, of course. Last week for the
second goal, he was able to receive a ball drive
towards the end line, cut the ball back. In his
interview this past week, the team maybe was after the game,
media asks, you know, where do you get that from?
Speaker 8 (01:09:07):
Did you see that run from Delaveago? And he said, nope,
my dad told me and I was a young kid.
Get to the end line, you cut the ball back,
no smart father.
Speaker 23 (01:09:16):
And he was right on the toe of Dela Vega,
and he roofed the ball into the top of the
goal for his first goal in twenty twenty five, rewarding
his good player the last couple of weeks. But here
comes Colorado trying to find the opening goal here given
away by Yama again sloppy by the Sounders in possession.
Navajo goes sent to this this I'd right Yappy overlapping
run by Cannon onto his left foot, strikes it wide,
(01:09:38):
goal kicked Sounders here in the twenty ninth minute, Colorado nil,
Sounders nil, and this score up is presented by Toyota.
Speaker 24 (01:09:46):
There's a disconnect between that back line of three or
five and then the midfield, and that's where that ball
came in.
Speaker 13 (01:09:52):
Here.
Speaker 24 (01:09:52):
Yappy had a good little header, but there was too
much space for Navarado to come pick up the ball
again and find Yappy out wide for him to do
some creative things. But it's to be a little bit
more connected. Can you shrink the field defensively and then
open up when it's attacking?
Speaker 23 (01:10:04):
Is it the formation that armis is playing with these
kind of compact midfield players.
Speaker 8 (01:10:08):
They're overloading the midfield.
Speaker 10 (01:10:09):
Is it?
Speaker 23 (01:10:10):
The Sounders need to maybe shift slightly in terms of
how they set up to try and add another play
in the midfield.
Speaker 3 (01:10:16):
I think I think Jesus Ferrara and Dala Beaga can
tuck in a little bit more instead of saying so
far wide. Let let Paul Rothrock run that line. Let
let Kilany run that line.
Speaker 8 (01:10:24):
Here's Laura's towards the endline.
Speaker 23 (01:10:25):
Ball from Mahailevitch back in supports Mahilovitch gets it back
closed down by Rothrock. On this near side the Sounders
left Colorado's right all inside to Lauras picked up again
by mahai Levitch drives forward top of the box, he
goes outside the right foot, he goes to Maxu advanced
from his center back position, wins the corner kick. If
you tick right past the thirty minute mark, good pressure
(01:10:48):
by Colorado sound is standing strong, Colorado knocking on the door.
Speaker 24 (01:10:53):
When you have a center back that's inside the box
making a cross, you know that the Sounders haven't been
able to get out of their half in a while
because you don't bind those plays in those games, and
so when they're giving this and continuous pressure and pressure
and pressure, they've got to find a way to just
connect the first pass, connect the second pass, because then
you can slow down and the game becomes a little easier.
Speaker 23 (01:11:11):
Another corner kick for Colorado, of course, they were dangerous
to one short target came from a corner kick in
the head of Navajo, cleared off the line by rolled On.
This time it's on the Colorado right hand side. Fans
are on their feet, full house today. Ball hops back
in by Masu. Shoud be an over keep by Navajo,
no foul give him by the referee, headed clear by
(01:11:32):
the sound is not back in and again cushion headed
this time by Vargas.
Speaker 8 (01:11:35):
Good play for the Sounds, nice and composed.
Speaker 23 (01:11:37):
Out of pressure. As Farrero gets bats it into there's
the fowls. The Sounders staff stand up on their feet
asking for a free kick. Ferrera saw it coming. Reggie
Cannon pulls him up. It's gonna be a free kick
for the Sounder is on their left hand side.
Speaker 3 (01:11:49):
A little bit better there, Look, get the ball out
of the box. It's good defending on the corner kick
on that time, and then of course ob Vargas with
a little bit of talent there making sure to cush
the headers that.
Speaker 24 (01:11:58):
Way we can keep the ball. And that was a
great little run from Frerey. He saw the contact come
and knew that it could complete the pass and get the.
Speaker 8 (01:12:04):
Fount Sounders just absorbing some pressure here. Just take this
thing out the game. They are doing that. See Sounder
is doing thing formation wise as we just talked about.
Speaker 23 (01:12:17):
Of course, four two three one has been Brian's preferred
formation over the years, spread so much success. Of course,
because almost talked about the envy that he has somewhat
of the Sounders' perennial success. Winning mentality as the ball
gets cleared is gonna skip over the end line.
Speaker 24 (01:12:38):
We'll talk about that winning mentality, and that's what these
guys need to have and in these tough places, and
you've been in these games before.
Speaker 3 (01:12:44):
This is not going to be a great, pretty soccer game.
Speaker 24 (01:12:48):
This is going to be a battle, and so are
these guys going to have that character to go out
and battle and make sure that they you know, Marcus
talked about it in the pregame. It's got to be
a zero, right, You've got to have a shout out
here because it is a hard place to play.
Speaker 3 (01:12:59):
Can you have that battle?
Speaker 23 (01:13:00):
Can you nick a goal here? This is inadvertent clearance
by kim Key. He nicked off the toe of Bassett
run over the end line. Now it's going to be
a corner kick for the Sounders on their.
Speaker 8 (01:13:09):
Left hand side. This near side the left Sounders attacking
the goal to our left in swinger by Ferrera towards
the backsticket goes headed down by kim Ky. He he climbed.
It was all over or Cm.
Speaker 23 (01:13:21):
It's gonna be a free kick for the Colorado Rapids
inside their eighteen yard bucks see get inside of fifteen
minutes left of this first half. Don't leave us at
half time, Jackson, Marcus James. We're back to break everything down.
Look at a slight Replaysofski asking for handball, but the
fouls already given. And you gotta think Kellen, with such
(01:13:44):
a young goalkeeper, the message must have been here. Let's
test the goalkeeper for if we can the Sounders. Of course,
I have not had a real good foothold in this
game yet to test a goalkeeper, but you gotta think
that's going to be a message coming in for the
second half is how can we test this.
Speaker 8 (01:13:56):
Young goalkeeper and make him feel uncomfortable.
Speaker 24 (01:13:58):
Absolutely, it's a young girl. Keep your first game. He's
out for a Stephan like it's it's got to be.
And what's what's great about the Sounders is the past
few games they've shot from.
Speaker 3 (01:14:07):
Distance and created something from it.
Speaker 24 (01:14:08):
But you haven't seen that because we haven't got a
foothold of the game yet, so there hasn't been a
chance for someone to take that shot. Obviously Hazus Ferira
having that chance at the six, at the penalty spot
and roofing it.
Speaker 3 (01:14:18):
But they've got to find a way to get that
ball down there and just just create a shot.
Speaker 24 (01:14:22):
That corner kick there, I'd rather have it, and instead
of being far post, I'd rather have it right on
top of the goalie.
Speaker 3 (01:14:27):
Make it, you know, make it fearful of what's gonna happen. Hey,
welcome to the league kind of thing.
Speaker 23 (01:14:31):
Yep, yeah, put it right on that, just like Colorado
did it for their freak, their corner kicks.
Speaker 8 (01:14:37):
Put run in the six shot books. Vargas has it now,
reverse ball.
Speaker 23 (01:14:41):
Great ball into Rothrock inside the box, he goes left foot,
strikes it fumbled saved by hands, and just as we
talked about it was a rebound for Massovski. Right plays,
right time, put it wide, it's gonna be a goal kick.
Speaker 8 (01:14:53):
It was a chance for the sound as well, built up.
Speaker 23 (01:14:56):
By Vargas, eventually not wind by Missovski on the rebund
only shot from Rothrock.
Speaker 24 (01:15:02):
There's just a little bit of gainsmanship there as Hazu's
Ferrera thought, Okay, I might be offside here.
Speaker 3 (01:15:06):
I'm just gonna let it go.
Speaker 24 (01:15:07):
Paul Rothrock continuing to make his runs down the line
as he's kind of limping away from that one a
little bit because that one hurt. But it was a
good play and once again we talked about it, Dana Massowski,
right place, right.
Speaker 3 (01:15:18):
Time, a poacher's goal, that would have been. He just
couldn't get his feet right.
Speaker 8 (01:15:22):
Yeah, clumsy saved by Henson. It's exactly what we were
mentioning just a moment or so ago. His test a
goalkeeper see what he's got.
Speaker 23 (01:15:28):
And that was a some of us scuff shot by
Rothrock on his left foot, seemed to comfortable save by
for hands. Somebody fumbled it to the foot of Massovsky,
couldn't rebound it on target as yet he comes in
on newho and see it's the free kick as he
backs into the referee and rolled on. Clumsy more than
any thing is. We look at our replayed on our screen.
Speaker 24 (01:15:50):
That's now two plays that the Seattle Sanders have been
inside the box and can't find the back of the net.
These are the games, the away games that are hard
and tough, that you gotta find a way to finish
those chances.
Speaker 3 (01:15:59):
That what great teams can do.
Speaker 24 (01:16:01):
So if they do get these chances again, they've got
to have that little bit of composure, that a little
bit of quality to make sure that these goals in
the back of the neck.
Speaker 8 (01:16:06):
Yeah.
Speaker 23 (01:16:07):
Masoski's goal against Dallas, of course, was from a shot
from dela Vega that hit the post right place, right time, knocked.
Speaker 8 (01:16:12):
It into the empty net. It wasn't the extremely easy
chance kind of flash towards him. He is able to
play a ball in and here comes Masoski over the top.
Speaker 23 (01:16:20):
He goes isn't able to shrug off Awassum, who clears
his lines. Wossium's asking him for a foul as Ferrera
backs into Bassett. Sound has come away that but Loraz
now shrugs off Vargas picked up well by Dela Vega.
That's something he's brought into his game, his ability to
scrap for the ball as he picks it up center
the park now just rolls it back to Yemar Sounders.
(01:16:42):
In these final ten minutes of the first half, can
they find a way through into the locker room?
Speaker 8 (01:16:47):
One goal up?
Speaker 24 (01:16:49):
Isn't it great having two attacking players that are willing
to do the pressing, do the work hard made the
drop back if they lose the ball and win.
Speaker 3 (01:16:55):
That ball again, and de la Vega and Ferrara have.
Speaker 8 (01:16:57):
Been doing that.
Speaker 23 (01:16:58):
It comes Nava finds it of space, rolls it out
to this near sight to yappy overlapping run now by Bassett.
Here he is an eighteen yard box good defending by
Kim Kee back on his feet.
Speaker 8 (01:17:07):
Both clips of the back stick up goes combination Navajo
and Bassat and strikes by Colorado. I think it was
a Tensio slash it over the top. It's going to
be a goal kick for the Sounders.
Speaker 23 (01:17:19):
So he get into the final ten minutes of this
first half, Colorado nil.
Speaker 8 (01:17:23):
Sounders nil.
Speaker 24 (01:17:24):
Started with winning the second ball once again, and then
Colorado broke and then broke really fast with Yappy and
then Bassett running around as well. They've got to make
sure they clean up those little things and win that
second ball.
Speaker 10 (01:17:35):
Well.
Speaker 23 (01:17:36):
Josh Attensio's eyes were wide open. Then he just saw
it from eighteen yards. It came back to him from
the eighteen yard box and he slashed it over the
top and all of a sudden, the Sounders are able
to breathe a sigh of relief as Jema has it
knocks it down the line picked up by Massovski. That
(01:18:00):
a pressure pulled down by young Jackson. That's gonna be
a yellow card. Easy yellow card. Referee gives the foul.
Speaker 8 (01:18:09):
Sounders on their right hand side, just inside their half
of the field.
Speaker 23 (01:18:15):
The Sounders maybe a chance to put it into the
box we'll see if the big men go up, or
a chance to take a breather.
Speaker 24 (01:18:21):
Which is good play for Masafki using his body making
sure he finds it. He keeps his emotion that time.
There's no kick out and that's exactly what we needed.
Speaker 23 (01:18:32):
And there's a confirmation from the the tannoy that Jackson
Tram has got the yellow card. As the Sounders have
the throwing on the fast side, the Sounders right with
young Kulan a steady eddie. So far in these first
thirty eight minutes of the game, nil nil Colorado Sounders
in Commerce City, Colorado, ninety three point three KGr FM.
(01:18:53):
Frere has it, rolls it out to this near side
to rot or left hand side, ten yards from the
end like cuts it back top of the box. Strike
good strike by rolled on, blocked by the back line
of Colorado. Comes back to new who tries to line
up a shot from forty yards thought differently, rolls it
out to Rothrock. I think you could feel and hear
and see maybe the searing eyes of Brian Schmidtz's like, nope,
(01:19:13):
don't do that.
Speaker 3 (01:19:14):
I always screaming now on the inside as well.
Speaker 24 (01:19:16):
It was he was lining it up, but I don't
think anyone actually believed he was gonna shoot it. Maybe
knew who did, but I think everyone there thought, all right,
let's honestly, I'd let him.
Speaker 9 (01:19:26):
Well.
Speaker 23 (01:19:26):
This copyrighted audio cats of Major League Soccer may not
be retransmitted, reproduced, or rebroadcast without the express written consent of.
Speaker 8 (01:19:33):
Major League Soccer.
Speaker 23 (01:19:34):
As the ball goes from Vargas Center to fartside, the
right to Klaney whips it in towards the backstick, tipped
over by Hanson. There was an inadvertent shot on goal
as Klane just shakes his head little Ronny smile, but Hanson,
to be on his toes, had to tip it up.
It's gonna be corner kicked for the Sounders.
Speaker 24 (01:19:51):
Talking about testing the keeper here and now there was
a shrass as we call it a shot cross. But
what I loved about that play is that dala Vega
made an incredible darting run into open up that space
for Kilane and I think ovid Vargas may have just
missed that run because he was wide open going through.
But what a ball into Kilane way to create space,
and then he followed his run into that box and
that's what created the cross.
Speaker 23 (01:20:12):
It's gonna be a corner kick for the Sounders on
this near side. The Sounders left in swinger with Farrera's
could be the second corner kick of the game for
the Sounders that could make their runs. Just backstick it
goes and again a little disappointing. Why not test the
goalkeeper put it on the six yard books he was
drilled to the far side that.
Speaker 24 (01:20:32):
Looked as if it was a little bit miscommunication because
I think he was looking for someone on that back
post the way he drove that ball in rather than
kind of bending it towards the goalkeeper.
Speaker 3 (01:20:40):
I think he was looking to find that ball.
Speaker 24 (01:20:42):
And someone on the back post, and I don't think
anyone was on the same page as as Hazus.
Speaker 23 (01:20:47):
Five minutes ago, the forty five Sounders nil Colorado nil. Well,
Sounders FC Kids Club is better than ever now with
more membership options. Sammy's Squad offers young fans ages.
Speaker 8 (01:20:57):
Five through twelve, exclusive merchandise experiences and more. Go to
Sounders fc dot com slash kids dash Club to join
the pod.
Speaker 24 (01:21:08):
As we watch right now, we saw all those those
guys come off the bench and go warm up a
little bit, and it's just a scary side if you're
a Colorado team and you watch, you know, the Jaopolos,
the Jordan morris Is, the Albert Rusnaks, the Ryan Kentz,
Alex Rowodon's run, you know, walk to the to go
warm up for the second half.
Speaker 23 (01:21:25):
I mean, you could take your entire offensive lineup off
the field and put will be conceivably stronger group of
players on the field arguably.
Speaker 3 (01:21:35):
In the MLS, in a top five in the MLS
in that front.
Speaker 23 (01:21:40):
Three, front four even yep, and you think Ferrara top
player in MLS over the less empteen numbers of years.
Only twenty four years old, it feels like it's been
around forever. Of course, dela Vega's funding his feet now.
After a injury riddled season last year, a really good preseason,
four goals in preseason four Della Vega got niggling injury
(01:22:04):
just a couple of weeks ago.
Speaker 8 (01:22:05):
Now is Beck got his.
Speaker 23 (01:22:06):
First goal of the campaign MLS campaign last week against Nashville.
Speaker 24 (01:22:11):
But what I love about de la Vega is he
knew he needed to work hard in the preseason and
he continued to do so. And this little niggling injury
isn't didn't step back at all.
Speaker 3 (01:22:20):
I think he's come in and been fit. He's been good.
He's been The quality that he's he's brought proven to
have is showing now.
Speaker 23 (01:22:28):
As I mentioned, Sean Henderson said, this is the player
that we recruited. We started to see what he was
like in Argentina. Of course, I forget these players come
from young players coming from Afar. It takes a little
while to get bedded into a new culture, new country,
new language. Colorada have a top of the box of
Mahailovitch closed down by rolled on. It goes to the
(01:22:49):
left hand side to Yappy inside the box overlapping run
was supposed to be there for Yappy.
Speaker 8 (01:22:54):
It didn't come. His cutball rolls over the end line.
It's going to be a goalkick for the Sounders here
in the fourth third minute Colorado nil, Sounders nil. And
this score up date is presented by Provident Swedish.
Speaker 24 (01:23:05):
When you talk about players being happy and taking some time,
especially foreign players, taking some time to get used to
the US, get used to the travel it used to
the team that language, and James Riley mentioned in the
pre game when you're when your home life is good,
you're on field is a little bit better as well,
because you're you're mentally in tune at all times, and
so you leave your family, you leave a lot of
things back at home.
Speaker 3 (01:23:25):
What's comfortable, it's a little harder to get used to.
Speaker 24 (01:23:27):
So we're glad that paged the Vega is feeling like
he's at home in Seattle, yep.
Speaker 23 (01:23:31):
Even with forty percent possession in this first half so
far for the Sounders. I managed to withstand this pressure
from Colorado. We know that Chris Thomas wanted his team
to play on the front foot. Some good results as
we mentioned at home in recent games, wins against Charlotte,
wins against San Diego. Disappointing result last week the ninety
(01:23:55):
sixth minute, last minute of the game that gave up
an equalizer to Houston in Houston, which course is never
an easy place to play. So Colorado finding their form
now and listen to some of the podcasts during the
week from Colorado. Considering the lack of true investment that
Colorado's made to their squad over the years, it's pretty
impressive that they continue to find their way in the
(01:24:16):
mid table in the Western Conference. Also, it was Robin
Fraser who've got them to win the Western Conference so
three or four years ago.
Speaker 8 (01:24:23):
But Sounders win it now? Can they break?
Speaker 23 (01:24:25):
In transition these final minute or so of the first half,
roth Rock has it on this near side the left,
cuts back, plays it inside to Vargas, who's closed down
by his old buddy Josh Atensio is able to wriggle
free from Josh.
Speaker 24 (01:24:39):
I love seeing that little matchup because there was a
moment last year where josh Atensio was the guy. He
was the center mid long job, following Christian Roldan, and
then Ovid Vargas comes in it takes that spot.
Speaker 3 (01:24:49):
So it's fun to see that little thing happen between them.
Speaker 8 (01:24:53):
Or goes in behind. Calane has it towards the endlight
and there's my softy third golling.
Speaker 23 (01:25:00):
Three games, right place, right time, and the Sounders find
an opening goal in this first off it's Colorado nil.
Speaker 8 (01:25:10):
Sound has won.
Speaker 3 (01:25:12):
Right place, right time. He finds a way.
Speaker 24 (01:25:16):
Yes, we talked about how he didn't keep his emotions.
He wasn't sure if he's making it easy on Brian Smitzer.
And then he turns around and proves us wrong. Talk
about the commentator curse, right, He's proven us wrong every
single time now these past three games. And it's again
Jesu's Ferrera finding a way to play a ball in
inside the pox and then Kilanie just make himself eat
steady Eddy find the good ball in the box and
(01:25:37):
Masofski getting the right side of his guy and finding
way to put in the back.
Speaker 8 (01:25:40):
Of the end. Brilliant bull by Ferrera.
Speaker 23 (01:25:43):
Finds kilane and he rolls the ball on the six
shop books to a prison Massovski who just knocked it
into the goal.
Speaker 8 (01:25:53):
Great goal, great team goal.
Speaker 23 (01:25:55):
By the Sounders, and what a timely goal as well,
just minutes before the end of the first half.
Speaker 8 (01:26:00):
We'll see what the referee adds on.
Speaker 23 (01:26:03):
The referee has a momentary check, they are not the
all clear and Colorado kick us off.
Speaker 24 (01:26:13):
This may not pertain to this game, but it's gonna
make Brian Smester's job that much harder going into next
week because he's now three for three. So how do
you how do you not play a guy who's, like
I said, forward's run on streaks.
Speaker 3 (01:26:27):
They score goals, So how do you do this coming
next week? I think it's gonna be a fun conversation
after the game.
Speaker 23 (01:26:33):
Well, two game winning goals in the last two games
as well winn An RSL one nil and of course
the three nil win last weeks Nashville thesossis win the
first goal. So two goals, two game winning goals in
the last two games, and then three goals in the
last three games in total.
Speaker 8 (01:26:54):
Each of those goals have been the first goal for
the Sounders.
Speaker 23 (01:26:59):
Tick past the one minute mark that the referee added
on and imagine win Stefan Frey.
Speaker 8 (01:27:06):
Launches the ball into.
Speaker 23 (01:27:07):
The night sky, the referee will blow his whistle on
there it goes, and what a timely goal it was
for the Sounders. It was a ball by Ferrera, split
the back line, Kolanie, an ever willing runner on that
right hand side, found himself inside the eighteen yard box,
roll the ball square to Mussovski, who scored his third
goal in three games.
Speaker 8 (01:27:30):
Helen Roe, your final thoughts.
Speaker 24 (01:27:32):
It wasn't the best half of Seattle, and we talked
about this game not being pretty, and they've got to
sort out some things in the back line, maybe in
that midfield as well. But when you're away from home
and you've got the grit and you've got that good
character that they have and the quality of someone like
Hazus Ferrera and a willing runner of Kilanie, you find
a way. And that's what That's what Brian Specer is
gonna say. It wasn't our best, but one zero up,
(01:27:52):
let's find a way to close this out.
Speaker 3 (01:27:54):
In the second half.
Speaker 8 (01:27:55):
We'll take a short break.
Speaker 23 (01:27:56):
Jackson Phelps, Marcus Hanneman and James Riley, who have lots
to talk about from that first half, but a halftime

Now time for the Sounders FC halftime show.
Speaker 4 (01:30:31):
Well, it was in the first prettiest first half we've seen,
but it was a Sounders lead there right before the break.
Danny Mazowski his third goal in as many games. He
scored the game winner against Dallas, first goal last week
in the three to nothing went over Nashville, and then
here he is scoring again right before the half. Hey,
who's Ferira finds klane on the wing, he crosses it
(01:30:54):
in and Mizzosky knocks it into the back of the
net and into Sounders one nothing lead here at the break.
Welcome into the halftime show, Jackson Feltz, James Rally, Marcus Hanneman.
Let's just start with opening thoughts here. James on on
the first forty five minutes.
Speaker 5 (01:31:07):
I thought it was a decent forty five to be honest. Obviously,
the Sounders bent but didn't break. Had a couple, you know,
few lucky moments on corner kicks and then the giveaway
with Bassett hitting the post. Last week it was Stephen
Frye actually making saves to.
Speaker 3 (01:31:19):
Keep the group in the game.
Speaker 5 (01:31:20):
And so then the Sounders on the other way were opportunistic.
I thought they had chances. Hey sus Ferrara had a
great chance ten and twelve yards out, and then Rothrock
had a great chance to test the goalkeeper early. And
then Massovski's been creeping and it's and it was a
good decisive quick free kick right into hey SU's Hey
Sue's able to spring a guy wide and Klanne and
then you have Misovski making a goal near post run.
(01:31:43):
Great goal to end the half timely goal, great execution
by that group or that that small group late in
the game. So that goal before half is crucial, big time.
Speaker 6 (01:31:53):
Little sloppy in the back, especially away from home, so
it means in Colorado you're going to be chasing it
all the time.
Speaker 7 (01:31:59):
Right, it's no good.
Speaker 6 (01:32:00):
Right, You've got to take care of the ball, that's
for sure. And then yeah, it's it's gonna be like
this away from home right there, other teams are going
to have a little run a play, And the importance
of today was keeping a clean sheet as long as
possible in the first half and then scoring in the
last five minutes of the half. Is critical, and now
you're going into halftime and looking at that up one zero,
(01:32:21):
great goal from Mazoski. You know, he had a couple
of opportunities and you know he was frustrated, gets a
silly yellow card, right, and you know the guys were
talking about, you know, oh, this is maybe an opportunity
for Schmidz to take him out. All these different things
when you have somebody like that and you see a
player who's you know, scoring goals and he knows he's
got Jordan Morris behind him that you know, a little
(01:32:42):
frustration crept in, but he's in the right place right time,
scores that key goal.
Speaker 4 (01:32:47):
How about that for Danny Muzoski. Third goal in as
many games. But I think you're absolutely right, Marcus. You
just got to be cleaner in the back from you know,
the sixth minute back to back corner kicks where there's
the first time yet two free runners that could have
had that ball and you get it cleared off the line,
and then a moment afterwards another cold basset header that
was just free. Gotta shore that up. And then also
(01:33:07):
you know the giveaway from Jemargomez Andrade there picks the
pocket Cole Bassett does and boy, that could have easily
made it one nothing there in the twenty third minute.
But as long as you don't make those mistakes again,
we have a one nothing lead. Let's let's make sure
that we come home with this win. Having the lead
here at the half couple quick notes here. Sanders FC

Speaker 4 (01:36:47):
Welcome back to the halftime show where your Seattle Sounders
down in Colorado are leading the Rapids by a score
of one nothing. Danny Mazowski in the forty fifth minutes.
By the way, looking at other scores, only one that
really want to share. A few minutes ago, Nashville was
leading Chicago seven to nothing. Folks, this is football, not football.
Seven It's now seven to two, so there was a
(01:37:09):
safety from Chicago fire. But seven zero on fifty seven
minutes was the score between Nashville and Chicago. And that's
a former assistant BJ Callahan beating his former boss, former
United States heads United States men's national team head coach
Greg Berholt. A crazy situation out there Nashville in Chicago.
(01:37:30):
All right, back to Sounders Rapids where Seattle's leading one nothing.

Speaker 3 (01:37:40):
All right, let's get to the second half.
Speaker 7 (01:37:42):
Boys.
Speaker 4 (01:37:43):
The Danny Muzowski train continues. Three goals, three games, So
the questions are, when do you bring Jordan Morrisson, when
do you bring Albert rus neck on, when do you
bring Alex chrodan on? And how do you keep a
one nothing lead in doing all of this?
Speaker 5 (01:37:57):
James than Marcus, Yeah, I think your three goals in
three games is fantastic. This this goal here is a
very opportunistic goal late in a half. Great run, great
industrious work by Klanne there in great vision by Jesus.
I think you can ride it to the sixtieth minute
and then you can stay in a low block, mid
block and look to counter. Look, Jordan had an opportunity
to have multiple goals last week when when Nashville had
(01:38:19):
to push and try to, you know, push numbers forward.
Speaker 3 (01:38:21):
So this could be a great game.
Speaker 5 (01:38:22):
If Jordan is subbed in the sixtieth minute, gets a
goal and the win, everyone's happy.
Speaker 7 (01:38:29):
I like it.
Speaker 3 (01:38:30):
You know, you you got to keep.
Speaker 2 (01:38:32):
Everybody happy.
Speaker 6 (01:38:33):
In all these situations. But which Bets is probably telling
him is right now is look, hey, we got Jordan
on the bench, give me everything you got, right is,
And so he knows he's going to just go out
and work its butt off. So so now that I
say that, for sure he's subbed at halftime. That's what's happening.
But the Sounders definitely have to clean up their defensive mistakes, right.
They can't keep giving the ball away, Colorado will punish them.
(01:38:55):
And then they got to sort out their corner kicks. Right,
They've got four or five guys zoning. Nobody might and
I know those Sounders aren't the biggest, so they're like,
let's not go man demand, let's go zone. But it
ain't working, so we got to do something. So look
for some changes there and better set pieces from us
as well. Our quarter kicks have been lackluster, not very
good service. We need to put, like James said, put
(01:39:17):
the goalkeeper under pressure.

FM, Welcome back Sounders fans to Dick Sporting Goods Park
in Commerce City, Colorado, where the Sunders are leading. Here
one goldtanil against the Colorado Rapids, and it was a
late late goal by Danny Masoski into that first half
right place right time, as it has been the last
couple of weeks, his third goal in as many games.
Speaker 8 (01:42:55):
I'm Danny Jackson.
Speaker 23 (01:42:56):
Alongside Kellen Rowe here in the birth As a players
start to get ready for or this second half, Sounders
will be attacking the goal to our right in their
anniversary kit, green shirts, blue shorts, white socks, and it's
gonna be Colorado in this second half, attacking the goal
to our left and there all burgundy kit tonight. And
as the players get slowly set, we feel there's gonna
(01:43:18):
be one immediate sub made.
Speaker 8 (01:43:20):
As we saw Danny massossis see on the bench and
you said.
Speaker 23 (01:43:23):
It very wisely at halftime, Kellen, that is going to
be Jordan Morris. Probably structured before the game started that
Danny would have forty five, Jordan would at forty five
to get some minutes under his belt, and it is
turning out to be that way. So we'll get your
lineup in just a moment. As Ferrera gets us going here.
(01:43:44):
Sounders under the kosh for much of that first half,
but the all important statistic is goals, and the Sounders
found that sole goal in the second half to go
one nil in locker room.
Speaker 8 (01:43:54):
As Vargas strides forward out to Rock on that fast
side the left convet to rolled On, who's.
Speaker 23 (01:44:01):
Been high quality in these first parts of the season.
As the ball gets cut out, forward comes Navaho try
to thread the needle, but cut out well by young
Kolaney sis Man on Mausovsky's goal and the sound has
build in possessions. So callen being in the lockeroo with
Brian Schmittze after many games like this where the teams.
Speaker 8 (01:44:24):
Were team was second best in most parts, but they
got the all important goal. What did he say a halftime?
Speaker 24 (01:44:29):
He said, we're lucky to be up one zero and
we're gonna continue and we're gonna take that gift.
Speaker 3 (01:44:33):
You know, well done by Danny Massovski.
Speaker 24 (01:44:35):
Thank you for the work that you put in. But
we're gonna change you here because it's it's Jordan Morrison.
And we asked the question of Brian Smetzer before the game,
how do you bring in your you know, quote unquote
star players that are on the bench back from injury.
How do you get them minutes real game minutes, but
also continue to give the guy's confidence and kind of
ride with this team that is winning games, you know,
(01:44:56):
week in and week out, and he sees it here
Danny Missovski coming off and that could be a red card.
Speaker 21 (01:45:01):
It was.
Speaker 8 (01:45:01):
I believe.
Speaker 23 (01:45:03):
Young Jackson Travis is on a yellow card. That was
a crunching challenge, more abrupt than his first one. And
if the referee is consistent, we will talk about consistency.
Let's just see if he is consistent, because that is
a clear yellow card. I don't know how you can't
give a yellow card and that would be a red
card on Jackson Travis, and that to me is a
(01:45:26):
really shocking decision by the referee.
Speaker 3 (01:45:29):
It is, but you know, I think I actually don't
mind it. It's the forty seventh minute.
Speaker 24 (01:45:32):
Now, it's the very beginning of that second half, and
as a soundress fan, You're going, come on, that's got
to be a card.
Speaker 3 (01:45:37):
Obviously that's a red card. But he's given the young
kid a chance to say, hey, look, if you touch
anyone else, you're off.
Speaker 23 (01:45:43):
Does it Does it set the precedent them for the
second half that now we set the stage that that
is not a yellow card. And I get it because
I agree that in the context of the of the
game and the and the spectacle of the game, especially
for the home team.
Speaker 8 (01:45:55):
We don't want to give up a red card. But
in the context of consistency of a referee, that has
to be yellow card.
Speaker 24 (01:46:01):
All well, I think he's what he's saying is that
that's not a red card, and it's not a red card,
but it would have been a yellow if that was
his first I think he's giving the benefit of the
doubt to the kid and saying, I know it was late.
Speaker 3 (01:46:11):
It wasn't egregious. It was just a little bit clumsy,
a little bit late. It's not a red card. But if,
like I said, if you give me another chance it's
another yellow.
Speaker 8 (01:46:19):
I'll take you on that. Eleven men versus eleven men.
Still here in the early minutes of this second half,
sound is leading one goal to nil back of a
Mausofsky goal, and he took his seat on the bench.
Job done for Danny Msofski.
Speaker 23 (01:46:33):
Sure's a level of disappointment to go off the field,
but there's also a level of contentment as well, because
he's done his job and Sounders now have to do
theirs the back line and defend this goal lead.
Speaker 8 (01:46:46):
As Navao has it, strikes it wide, did not.
Speaker 23 (01:46:50):
Test step and five eighteen yards. The five gold Men
on the season so far slashes it wide goal kicks.
Sounders remains Colorada Hill's Sounders one calendar.
Speaker 24 (01:47:01):
There's a lot of space there for Cole Bassett picking
the ball up in the midfield and finding Navarro and
again getting that shot off the top of the box
and not really having any pressure except for a retreating
I believe it was Paul Rothrock.
Speaker 23 (01:47:13):
Sound is building out of the back with Yemar on
this near side the right as they launched the ball forward,
headed up in the night sky by Lauras, flicked forward
by Detensia, then the foot of Navajo back to Mahailovich.
Speaker 8 (01:47:26):
It's been revelations since he came in league. Threads the
ball towards the Yappy towards the end line, has a chance,
finds it great defending by Rothrock. I think the assist
the referees flag maybe went up, but it was a
cup ball back on the left hand side from Yappie.
Speaker 23 (01:47:44):
Rothrock snuffed out the danger, cleared his lines. But it's
gonna be a free kick because we just see the
replay here. Sound has held a good line yacht off
side for Yappy free kick.
Speaker 8 (01:47:54):
For the Sounders.
Speaker 24 (01:47:55):
You know, when I look at that picture of that
back line, and I don't know if you saw this.
I saw a back line almost like a back line
of four and Paul Rothrock pretty high up on that
field when when Colorado has had the ball in our
half for a fair amount of time. So I'm wondering
if there's a little bit of a a tactical shift
there from Brian Smetzer at halftime saying, you know what,
We're gonna get this four four back line a chance
(01:48:15):
at Paul, I want you to go play on that
left side as a winger.
Speaker 8 (01:48:18):
Yeah, there's a two.
Speaker 23 (01:48:20):
Certainly look noise and compact with new Who on the
left hand side, Kinky he is sitting alongside Yay Mass.
Let's get you the lineup. We'll go as the three
for right now. But I think Kellen Rose got something there.
Stephen Fryin gole about three of Yama Ki Ki He
and knew Who Kilaney on the right, Rothrock on the left,
Christian and Obed in the middle, attacking three of Pedro
de la Vega, Hages Frere and Batman. Jordan Morris on
(01:48:44):
the field came on a half time for goalscorer Danny
Massovski for Armis and the Rapids. No changes at halftime,
Young Nico Henson making his MLS debuting goal back four
of Cannon, Awazim Maxu and Travis Lauras and josh at
Tensia for a Sounders man in the middle of the park,
Mylevich and Bassett just in front, and then attacking to
(01:49:04):
of Yappi and Navajo up front. Sounders have it right
in the half way. Learn this near sight the Sounders right,
It's gonna be a throne. The Leavega just gotta hold it,
drop it off to Kilaney. Gonna be some game management,
time management. Even in early minutes of the second half,
sounds leading one goal to nil. Tantier comes back, whins
(01:49:27):
the ball comes off the shin pad of young Kilaney,
who I got a chance to talk to you yesterday
after practice and really mature young man. It's an interesting story.
He talked about how he got to the UDUB and
he sat around with his peers. They all talked about
kind of what they want to do and what they
want to be as they come into their collegiate career,
and every man around that table said, I want to
(01:49:48):
be a pro soccer player, and he got to him
he said, no, I don't want to be a pro
soccer player, and he just said he just evolved over time,
and after his second and third year of the U
dub so they became pretty evident that he's had a
career and a future ahead of him in the game,
and people started whispering in his ear. And again just
his humble approach both then and now and his building
(01:50:09):
to getting that first team contract of course so well deserved.
He had a great preseason last year, didn't quite get
his chance with the first team relative to a contract
last year, but earned his way now into that lineup
on that right hand sign.
Speaker 8 (01:50:23):
And has done himself a world of good again today.
Speaker 3 (01:50:25):
Whether he wants to do it or not, or wanted
to do it. I love when you see Klae when
he's on the field. You see him one working harder
than everyone on the field.
Speaker 24 (01:50:33):
He's up and down that line, he's making sure he's
getting stuck into tackles, he's playing the easy ball whenever
he can. But also he's always got a smile on
his face. But when you talk to him, he's a
good kid. He has a smile on his face. He
just wants to be nice and he's a kind person.
So whether he wants to do it or not, he's
really good at it and we're glad he's here.
Speaker 23 (01:50:50):
We certainly are a standing so far goal against l
EFC Systs tonight is the ball gets flipped in, Lauras.
Speaker 8 (01:50:57):
Gets Samos steps in. It's gonna be at just on
top of the eighteen yard boxers. Good into play by Colorado.
Ruffrey gives the.
Speaker 23 (01:51:05):
Foul as of now, no yellow card, as he said
he set the precedent with that foul from young Jackson.
Travis didn't get his second yellow card of the game
early in this second half. But it's gonna be a
chance from just outside the eighteen yard books, just left
of center.
Speaker 3 (01:51:19):
It's quality play from Colorado. It's just good one touch ball.
Speaker 24 (01:51:22):
It's good running off the ball and Yamar who's you know,
it hasn't had the cleanest of games tonight, as we
saw in that first half on the ball. Off the ball,
you know, finds a way to stick a leg out,
a little bit clumsy and good, you know, good on
la Raza for taking that touch and find a way
pasty Amar's for my first look that was a very
close call, and I'm guessing they're looking at it a
(01:51:42):
vr here whether that was inside the box or not.
But I believe it's just outside, like you.
Speaker 23 (01:51:46):
Said, yeap, just a yard or so outside the books
for right now, Mahilovich sitting on the ball, hands on
his hips, the Vajos in close proximity. Jordi Mahilovitch four goals,
three assists on his year.
Speaker 24 (01:51:59):
As we look at it, I gotta probably check my
eyes because that's a few yards back.
Speaker 8 (01:52:02):
Yeah, well, we'll give.
Speaker 23 (01:52:05):
You the benefit of the down. Its altitude looks a
little bit different. But here's my Highovich just a yard
or two outside the eighteen yard boxes. Kellen Rode confirmed
called Bassett standing Ronaldo esque, hands by his side, legs apart,
but it's gonna be my Hilovich. It takes two or
(01:52:27):
three steps back line. The wall for the sound is
just around whether the penalty spot is twelve yards from
Fry's goals.
Speaker 8 (01:52:35):
Fried tries to look around the corner.
Speaker 23 (01:52:36):
Here's my Hilovich goes short, it goes low, and in
the bottom corner it goes the wall.
Speaker 8 (01:52:42):
Jumped my Highlovich went low under the wall, It went
find the bottom corner and that's an equalizing goal for
Colorado here in the fifty fifth minute.
Speaker 24 (01:52:52):
The Rapids one sound is one you know when players
do this, it's so clever, but it's not an easy
place to play.
Speaker 3 (01:53:00):
And I think that I would love to ask actually
Marcus about this after the game, especially because it's not
easy for a goalkeeper. It's you're trusting your wall. That's
why you put them there. You're gonna stay in your position.
But nowadays, because of the cleverness of players.
Speaker 24 (01:53:12):
People have put people underneath the wall and it's I
know that Stephan is not one that enjoys that, but
he once again gets punished for it. And so great
play for Mahalovich and unfortunate at the Seattle Sounders.
Speaker 8 (01:53:23):
They were looking at the replay right now.
Speaker 23 (01:53:25):
Sam has had a wall and they jumped and right
under the wall. When we've seen play is laid down
behind the wall at times, will you go on that
because it feels like if a player be laid down,
that would have been something that would not have ruled
the way it did.
Speaker 24 (01:53:39):
I like it because there are players nowadays that can
do it and you want to be and they can
also dip it over the over that wall, and so
you want the wall to jump as high as they
can to protect that side. I trust Stephan Fry if
it's going anywhere near him and to have that. So
he trusted his wall and unfortunately no one was laying
unerneath it.
Speaker 8 (01:53:56):
Well, good clever goal, bla Mahilevich. Not what the sign
just wanted.
Speaker 23 (01:53:59):
And sure the conversation will come up again about a
potential yellow second yellow card and the Red Sounders now
have all sort of roll up their sleeves now.
Speaker 8 (01:54:09):
And dig in.
Speaker 23 (01:54:10):
Of course they have a plethora of options off the bench,
but it was Mahailovich goal is fifth goal of the
campaign that gets the Rapids right back into this game
because the Sounds now.
Speaker 8 (01:54:21):
Get another footholders Frere gives up the ball. They'll slop
in the middle of the park by rolled On as
my high of itch flicks it up to Bassett, back
to Mahailovich, headed down by Kimky, it flicked away by
Christian rolled on, finds Alex rolled on in the midst
of that goal came on Russnecks on the field as well.
De la Vega off.
Speaker 23 (01:54:40):
It looks like we'll get a confirmation of that, de
la Vega off and Kilaney off.
Speaker 8 (01:54:46):
We'll see if that shifts the team.
Speaker 1 (01:54:48):
And.
Speaker 23 (01:54:50):
Unexplicably rolled On just rolls it out of bounds. Played
the ball from center the fast side. The sound has
left and nobody there sounds you need to take a
quick breath, just get themselves back in the game.
Speaker 8 (01:55:01):
So Rosneck on like for like for de la Vega,
Ferrera is gonna.
Speaker 23 (01:55:06):
Play with Rosneck just in behind Jordan Morris. So Sounders
got their men on the field. Now Alex rolled on
on that right hand side. We'll see if the Sounders, though,
do shift to the more of a conventional four. Now,
let's flick around the corner by Rosneck, lot flick by
Morris giving away as em plays the ball into Josh Atensio.
Time and space on the ball, A bit too much
(01:55:27):
time and space on the ball in the middle of
the park for Colorado as it's zipped in by a
Tenu and Yappi Larazen support. Good play around the corner
by Navajo, cleared by the Sounders. Jordan Morrice tangles with Maxu,
Maxu comes away with it, finds the foot again. Oftentio
finds Cole Bassett. Colorado now I've got the win between
(01:55:47):
their sales looking confident. Sound has chasing shadows right now
as the balls get whipped around, step in by Jamar,
poked away by Vargas, and here come the Sound as
far side the left with Arothrock. We'll see how long
it will be until Ryan Kent comes on the field
and we'll get you the remaining players on the bench.
You mentioned rosneck On, rolled on On, Morris on Lee's Jao, Paolo,
(01:56:12):
Danny Leavit, Jonathan Bell, Cody Baker, Andrew Thomas and as
you mentioned Royan Kent who came on last week for
about ten minutes, whereas Sound as an MLS debut, look shock,
But now it's gonna be just rolling up the sleeves
and just taking to breath. Kellen, can you take sting
out this game because the Colorado team is now found
their feet again in the second half, they.
Speaker 24 (01:56:34):
Found their feet and they're making it as chaotic as possible,
and they're finding a way to keep Seattle pinned back
as much as they can. So now that they have
these players on the field like a Alex Roldanie At,
Albert Rusnick and Jordan Morris, and I would say even
Christian Roldan. Can you find a way to just take
the sting out of it, like you said, can you
connect a few passes?
Speaker 3 (01:56:50):
Can you take a breath? Can you slow the game
down a little bit, and then when the game calls
for it, can you spread it in behind to Jordan
Morris who can use his speed and then finish this
game off.
Speaker 24 (01:57:00):
You know, Colorado's doing a really good job of just
keeping everything jam packed on top of Seattle. As Colorado
makes a very very smart souff taking off Travis.
Speaker 8 (01:57:10):
Yep, it's gonna be Ian Murphy comes on for.
Speaker 23 (01:57:15):
Young Jackson. Travis should be walking off with a red car.
But I'll keep my mouse.
Speaker 8 (01:57:19):
Shutt on that.
Speaker 24 (01:57:21):
Got away with a bad time and the good lesson
for the young kid. It is a good lesson, and
you know he could learn it both ways. You can
learn it by getting the red card and bring your
team down one zero and down a man. But he's
the referee.
Speaker 3 (01:57:33):
Game a little benefited out there, corner.
Speaker 23 (01:57:35):
Caick full Colorado quick little play on their right hand side.
Mahileovitch has got a jog over to take it with
his right foot. So outswinger for Colorado, who looked dangerous
on set pieces so far, Sounders having been able to
really handle the pressure of delivery from Mihailovich coming in.
Speaker 3 (01:57:53):
I'm looking at the subs because the subs have to
come up to this game immediately.
Speaker 24 (01:57:57):
And now on a corner cake, Colorado has already been
dangerous and Albert Rusnak, Jordan Morris, Alex Hoddan.
Speaker 3 (01:58:02):
Can they make sure that they're up to this game
and get getting their marks right?
Speaker 23 (01:58:05):
On fifth corner kick for Colorado and it comes outswinger
headed down by Navauo.
Speaker 8 (01:58:10):
Good save by Fry, flung himself to his right and
he was Navajo again.
Speaker 23 (01:58:18):
Free header inside the box. It was a good snapheader
from about ten yards out. Good save by Fry remains
one one.
Speaker 3 (01:58:26):
Someone's just got to get a body in front.
Speaker 24 (01:58:28):
Like they're playing good balls in the box, but someone's,
as Marcus said, that the zone's not working. So can
they find a way just to get a body in there,
make sure it's harder for them to get a free
header and that.
Speaker 3 (01:58:37):
Way it makes it a little easier.
Speaker 23 (01:58:38):
Save for Steven Fry, call Bassett jumping in front, Ashi
Mahialoich jumps in front of Alex troll Don there's a
layoff by Jordan Morris's gonna be a Sounders throwing comes
in quickly by Christian roll done heavy ball by ye Ma,
hard to handle for Vargas wasn't able to.
Speaker 8 (01:58:55):
Control it.
Speaker 23 (01:58:57):
And deliver a pass, and here come Colorado again. Ball
comes to a Bassu who spins away on the right
hand side, flicks up the ball away from Rothrock, challenged
by Paul, but dropped by.
Speaker 8 (01:59:11):
Cannon and to Tensio. Is gonna whip it in.
Speaker 23 (01:59:14):
Paul delivery from Atensio finds a chest of Alex Roldan.
Speaker 8 (01:59:18):
The foot of Arrera.
Speaker 23 (01:59:19):
Back to Vargas strides forward and you get more involved
in the attacking half of the field, just as he
did last week against Nashville, who, by the way, rebounded
incredibly well after that three Niel drubbing on.
Speaker 8 (01:59:33):
The West Coast in Seattle. Came back and as the
last check it was seven to two, and that's a
final Nashville seven Chicago tour who under great burhol to
have found some real form coming into this season.
Speaker 23 (01:59:47):
As Rosna tries to roll it in, Maxu comes out.
Hanson came flying out of his goal, but Maxu took
care of business cleared his lines and then it's hooked
forward by Cannon asking for the throwing as.
Speaker 8 (01:59:59):
It came up.
Speaker 23 (02:00:00):
You happy, But note the referee and the assistant referee
on the fast sign gives it to Colorado's that burn.
Speaker 24 (02:00:04):
Let me talk about the roller coasters at the MLS, right,
the team can go away and lose three zero and
come back and find a way to win seven. To
the Sounders that have shown it over the years that
they can do it as well, is not start off
the hottest as they've done in the past'd find a
ways and win the MLS Cup towards the end of
the year. So the roller coaster rides of this and
(02:00:25):
the loop de loops that happened through the MLS, it's
it's who's going to be very, very good and on
their top form toward towards the playoffs.
Speaker 8 (02:00:32):
Let's get some Western Conference results today.
Speaker 23 (02:00:34):
Already Columbus two, San Jose one, so after a good
bright start by Bruce Arena's men, San Jose signed to
Falter losing away from home.
Speaker 8 (02:00:44):
San Diego won Salt Lake three. So only getting a
good away win against a exciting San Diego team or
if of course beat the Sounders just a few weeks
ago three nil at home Houston two, Austin nil. And
then here in Commer City, Colorado, it's the Rapids one
Sounders one Masovski goalscorer just before the end of the
(02:01:08):
first half went off at half time for Jordan Morris
and the score up that is presented by Toyota.
Speaker 3 (02:01:14):
We talked about the first half and how it was
a little bit of a tale of the last five minute.
Sounders playing very well, but the first you know, forty not.
Speaker 24 (02:01:21):
So well in Colorado really being on top of it,
but I think you're seeing a lot of the same
things happen here where they can't get a foothold of
this game.
Speaker 3 (02:01:28):
The passes aren't connecting very well, the runs aren't well
tied at the moment. Can they find a way to
grind out a tie or three points?
Speaker 10 (02:01:36):
Right?
Speaker 3 (02:01:37):
One or three points? You cannot drop once again?
Speaker 8 (02:01:40):
Well, Colorado. Yes, it's altitude, but it can also be
extremely cold here.
Speaker 23 (02:01:43):
But the weather seems to favor people coming out in
their short sleeved shirts. As the weather starts to turn
here in the Mountain region, the Mountain West region, I
think three hundred days of sunshine per year here in Colorado.
Speaker 8 (02:02:01):
I lived in when I bouldered for a while.
Speaker 23 (02:02:03):
When I played for the Rapids, and it is something
it really does shine day in day out, beautiful area
of the country.
Speaker 3 (02:02:11):
I'd say I get my sunshine when I was in
Colorado as well, but it was twenty four hours and
I think I was in Washington, so it wasn't I
didn't get much sunshine on that one because I think
it was December.
Speaker 7 (02:02:21):
Yep.
Speaker 23 (02:02:21):
Story franchise of course for the An Schultz, one of
the original owners, did own the Rapids before selling it
now to new ownership who have reinvested in the club
more so than they have done. Befoced and cronky of course,
owner of Arsenal and the Rams owns the Rapids. It
was discontent by the fans just a year or two
ago on the direction of the club and it forced
(02:02:46):
some reinvestment.
Speaker 8 (02:02:47):
My Heileovich and Nava Hoping two of those players who
have delivered today.
Speaker 23 (02:02:50):
Mahalovich with his goal Navajo has been a real present,
especially from corner kicks to two headers on target, one saved,
one cleared off the line by rolled on.
Speaker 8 (02:03:01):
But when you talk about altitude and weather, and stuff.
There's obviously a conversation.
Speaker 23 (02:03:05):
Callen about, you know, rejigging the calendar for MLS and
trying to line it more with the rest of the world,
where we go kind of August through just after Thanksgiving
with a breakover the Christmas period and then January February
time all the way through to late spring early summer.
Speaker 8 (02:03:22):
What do you make of that shift and change at MLS.
Speaker 3 (02:03:24):
I think it would be a positive.
Speaker 24 (02:03:25):
It's just it would take some time and it would
almost be Okay, this is what's gonna happen.
Speaker 3 (02:03:30):
We've just got to kind of deal with the with
what's with the repercussions of it. But you're talking about
playing heavy minutes and heavy times in places like Dallas, Austin,
Orlando in that hot, hot, hot summertime, even in Boxing
Kansas City.
Speaker 24 (02:03:43):
It's hard to play those games in those areas. However,
you flip the script a little bit and you're not
playing in the snow. You're not playing in the East,
the northeast in Utah in those snow games.
Speaker 23 (02:03:53):
Yeah, you got Colorado, Utah, Toronto. We obviously the sound
is known from twenty sixteen to seventeen, how.
Speaker 8 (02:04:00):
Cold it can be there.
Speaker 23 (02:04:01):
I think it was nine degrees in the twenty seventeen final,
remember that freezing cold as it was.
Speaker 8 (02:04:12):
Sounds, of course getting.
Speaker 23 (02:04:13):
Joy in the twenty sixteenth for their first MLS Cup penalties.
Sounds give the ball away. It's been a real difficult
second half so far for the Sounds.
Speaker 8 (02:04:22):
I'm going be able to get hold of the ball,
but it comes Colorado wriggling freeze. Yeah, with his left
foot just over hits the stencher behind the goal. It's
gonna be a goal kick. Sounders here in the sixty
sixth minute, it's the Rapids.
Speaker 23 (02:04:33):
One sound as one. But the Sounders need to find
a grip of the game. Again, there's Colorado are knocking
on the door.
Speaker 3 (02:04:40):
That's what it is.
Speaker 24 (02:04:40):
They need to find a grip of this game because
it is a little disconnected. Can they kind of just
pull everyone in. It's a little bit too much space
and away from home, you have to compact that midfield,
to compact that back line, to make sure there's no
easy way out. And we talked about trying to keep
a zero, and obviously they scored here early in the
second half, but can they find a way to just
to keep them out of the back it once again.
Speaker 23 (02:05:01):
Giving away again by sound As they build there's the
tensio thirty arts and goal tries to thread the needle find.
Speaker 8 (02:05:07):
Lorez and it's Knew who clears his lines on the.
Speaker 23 (02:05:10):
Far side the left towards Morris, who has no support
at all is he heads the ball forward Rosneck closed
the ball down but giving away by Bassett.
Speaker 8 (02:05:18):
Good ball bye, rolled on to the foot of Rothrock,
driving forward towards the left corner of the box. Try
to slide it in roll to Morris. He's asking for
a ham ball. Max who went down try to block
the cross. He did block it, ricocheting too the goalkeeper's hands,
but Rothrock is asking for a ham ball.
Speaker 23 (02:05:35):
See if the referee here's anything in his earpiece to
pause the game and take a look. So far nothing
Rapids have it on the halfway line with former Sounders
man Josh Tantier holds it out to sub Murphy on
the field for.
Speaker 8 (02:05:52):
Travis. Here's my high Levitch goalscorer for Colorado's goal.
Speaker 23 (02:05:59):
See good step by Ferrera. Can he find his first goal?
What't be a timely place to score it? To keep
the Sounders run Here of two gwins out the last
two games going. It comes Rothrock left corner of the box,
far side, Kennon slows him down. Rothorck just skips towards
his right foot, squares it across to Alex Roldan time
(02:06:19):
and space twenty five yards.
Speaker 8 (02:06:21):
From Gold goes back to Nuho.
Speaker 23 (02:06:24):
Sounder's going the wrong direction, going back instead of forward
and sloppy again by Yamar.
Speaker 8 (02:06:28):
It's been story of his nights so far. As Navajo
goes down, I think it was a tug of the
shirt by Ya. Mari's made a couple of ill advised
fowls in the first hal I've got away with it.
This time he doesn't, and it was all by his
own doing. Unfortunately, you chase down, pulled Navarro down, but
(02:06:49):
really nothing there. Do you look at the replay Kellen
Lava goes down again, far too easily.
Speaker 23 (02:06:54):
But the end of the day was a poor giveaway
from Yama. It's a foul for Colorado.
Speaker 22 (02:07:00):
It was.
Speaker 24 (02:07:00):
It was a little bit of an easy one. It
was actually probably pretty smart play from Navarro. He took
the long touch and knew he wasn't gonna get there,
and you saw that Gamer was the one that gave
it away, so it's given a reason for the reft
to give him a yellow yellow guard. But I liked
what was happening there is they didn't force the sounders
didn't force the ball when they got up there.
Speaker 3 (02:07:14):
But then they ran out of ideas, they ran out.
They were a little bit stagnant as they come across it.
Speaker 23 (02:07:18):
It comes to the top of the box, he gets
it from Bassett. Items like a foul on Ferrara, nothing
give him by the referee. The happy knocks you back
to Kennon the fast sight they're right, floats it in
towards the back stick.
Speaker 8 (02:07:32):
Alex rold On lets it go, skips through to over
the endline.
Speaker 23 (02:07:35):
Goalkick sounders here As who coached the seventeen minute mark
Sounders one Colorado one.
Speaker 24 (02:07:43):
Talk about sounders finding a way to get just take
a stick out of this game. It's finding possession, but
finding possession with with a little bit of an.
Speaker 3 (02:07:50):
Outcome, right, so we find the way to get in
the other half the field. Finally connect a few passes,
but then there's a little bit of stagnant.
Speaker 24 (02:07:56):
It ruins the flow of the game and there's no
option and unfortunately that's where you find things that in
the back line.
Speaker 3 (02:08:03):
You're making your defenders make the game good.
Speaker 8 (02:08:05):
Played by the rolled arm brothers. They break out a
pressure rolling down the line to this near side the
right to Jordan Morris willing runner in behind the back
line for Colorado, picks it up, comes back to Alex
Roldan in support to his brother Christian squared across to
Obed just left of center, rolls it out to News
getting more advanced. Now from that left hand side, Rothrock
tries to.
Speaker 23 (02:08:26):
Roll the ball in behind close to the ball down
comes off Rothrock far side Colorado's right. As he looks
across to the bench, maybe he's waiting for the introduction
of Ryan Kent.
Speaker 8 (02:08:39):
Twenty minutes left of the ninety and there is Ryan Kent.
Speaker 23 (02:08:43):
Got ten minutes last week, and now we'll get a
full twenty minutes. And would there'd be a great introduction
for Ryan Kent.
Speaker 8 (02:08:50):
We've seen the clips of his time at Rangers, had
some time with Fenerbache. We'll see there is Farrera. Actually,
Rothrock took a look over.
Speaker 23 (02:09:02):
It's gonna be Farrera comes off disappointment in a chance
from twelve yards skind it over the top and now
Ryan Kent comes on, can he make his mark for
his second MLS game for the Sounders.
Speaker 24 (02:09:14):
There's a little bit of frustration there from Ferrera saying,
why you know, why me, I'm doing the work, I'm
I'm keeping the ball, I've connected my passes. I'm confused there.
But look, as a player, he's played a lot. He
did have a few chances early in the game.
Speaker 3 (02:09:26):
But we're looking for him to, you know, come in
next week and continue his performances.
Speaker 23 (02:09:31):
And looking down here, how it's setting up, I think
he might be right shifting maybe to a four. We'll
see how it plays out. Rolled down, of course, always
a little bit further forward than normal, but with Ryan Kent,
Rothrock maybe left and right hand side, it would shine
slide Rosneck to his typical number ten spot right in
behind Jordan Morris.
Speaker 8 (02:09:50):
Just see how this plays out.
Speaker 23 (02:09:51):
But Brian has talked about like, how do you get
so many attacking players on the field, and you know,
a four back system might provide you that options with
those three attacking plays in behind Jordan Morris.
Speaker 3 (02:10:01):
I agree, and it gives Albert Rusnak a little bit
more freedom to kind of make the game his and
when he's in that number ten spot, he can he
can drift out wide, he can find himself next to
Jordan Morris. But that's where Albert Rusnak is more comfortable,
and that's where he was getting his sixteen assists that season.
Speaker 23 (02:10:14):
Well, tonight's match is presented by the Western Washington Toyota Dealers,
who get here in the seventy second minute, Colorado one,
Sounders one.
Speaker 8 (02:10:23):
And Callen.
Speaker 23 (02:10:24):
It's going to be a vote of confidence for Paul
Rothrock as well. You know you got one truce probably
to make jea Palo Danny Laver. Of course, on the field,
you can't imagine with a full week to go until
next week's home game against Saint Louis, that Vargas.
Speaker 8 (02:10:37):
And rolled On will come off the field. So kind
of thinks Brian's made his moves.
Speaker 24 (02:10:41):
Now he's putting a little trust in Paul Rothrock and
saying I need a guy who's going to be willing
to do the work to do the running. He's found
himself in good spots on this wing. At the ball,
he tried to play into.
Speaker 23 (02:10:53):
Jordan Morris as Bassett playing out to Mahailovich was back
to Ian Murphy clips it in and Bullbound's yappy was
they'll step over by Bassett yapp he couldn't control the
ball inside the eighteen yard box. Heavy touch rolls through
to Stephan fry Sands will take that all day long.
Speaker 8 (02:11:10):
But for Colorado they're certainly knocking on the door. The
Sounds need to absorb this pressure.
Speaker 23 (02:11:15):
It's not been a clean game from the Sounders so
far in possession, certainly in their defensive half of the
field and giving them sloppy balls away and sometimes they
cause their own problems.
Speaker 3 (02:11:25):
It's doing the little things correctly and then just completing
your passes. It's the basics.
Speaker 24 (02:11:29):
This game has been about the basics and unfortunately that's
what cast the Sounders that goal as well.
Speaker 23 (02:11:35):
It comes Ryan Kent first real involvement here. They'll step
over a nice little play on his left foot. It's
comfortable with both feet. Thus for sure, as the ball
flicks in, can roll.
Speaker 8 (02:11:45):
Do On get there? He does, flicks it though to
the back stick, headed away up, went over the end line.
Assistant referee flag on this near side went up. Alex
rolled On couldn't quite get there. A little heavy on
the pass.
Speaker 24 (02:11:57):
We'll talk about options and Ryan Kent first off, right
when he gets the ball, he's going at the line,
at that back line, and that's exactly what the Sounders
need right now, not just in this game, but in
this in the next season, in this season. So once
he does find that ball, you'll see Alex Rowdon kind
of drift by and give him another option on that overlap,
because that allows Ryan can't to make a decision, almost
like a quarterback option.
Speaker 3 (02:12:17):
If anyone who walks watches American.
Speaker 23 (02:12:19):
Football, cluttering challenge Kim kehy On Navaja Refree blew his
whistle straight away, came in. Kim Key's eyes were on
the ball, no question. Little Line Navara more backed into
him than anything. Awkward challenge Kim Key, He's gonna be
slow to get up. Jonathan Bell course available. But for
the Sounders, we've made a number of changes already. It's
(02:12:46):
all about instances in MLS now. When you can make
those changes, it's gonna be a free kick for Colorado
just right of center, and they're a teching half of
the field.
Speaker 24 (02:12:57):
And are a reminder of that because I had to
remind myself that the Jordan Morris change at halftime did
not count for a change, an opportunity to change, So
just you should have one more opportunity to change and
go back.
Speaker 23 (02:13:10):
To obviously given forty five minutes to Jordan, but also
the opportunity and not to burn away one of those opportunities.
That ball goes up, bounces through a good spring by
kim Ki Hee goes down.
Speaker 8 (02:13:20):
Another knock on the leg for kim KIH sure if.
Speaker 23 (02:13:23):
It's something that he picked up in the earlier collision
by Navaja or something fresh.
Speaker 8 (02:13:28):
Not look comfortable right now.
Speaker 24 (02:13:30):
And it's been too awkward landings for kim Kihey, I
think that's what kind of caused it. There is the
first one Navarro looked like if Navarro fell on his
leg as well, and then a second time there someone
falling on kim Key.
Speaker 3 (02:13:41):
He's taking a beating in the last two minutes.
Speaker 8 (02:13:43):
Yeah, we'll see what kim Ky can do.
Speaker 23 (02:13:46):
Of course, Johnson Bells you mentioned on the bench left
sided player and slide into the center back role.
Speaker 8 (02:13:51):
We've seen him do that.
Speaker 23 (02:13:52):
DC units had played so well stepping in for that
game last year. For his first meaningful contribution is in
a on his shirt and to shift that back forward
make it certainly more comfortable for Bell just sliding that
left hand side with Yamar on the right. The sound
has hooked the ball clear by Christian rolled on, headed
(02:14:13):
up in the air by Yappy, challenged by kim Ky.
He looks okay as Navarro picks it up. Paul Bassett
support on the right hand side. Knew goes across stretched
leg by Yamar. Can only do nothing else but from
deflected over the end line. It's going to be a
corner kick for Colorado.
Speaker 3 (02:14:31):
Yeah, just again Gamar not getting his feet right.
Speaker 24 (02:14:34):
Is it's a well positioned play, but just not getting
his feet right to put this out instead of putting
it out for a corner? Can he put it out
for a one of clearance? But to throw it anything
else right? Anything else by the corner? Obviously he saved
the play. This seems a good, good positional play by Yamar,
but can he get his feet right?
Speaker 23 (02:14:50):
So Rapids fans on their feet just like they are
at lumen Field, making some noise, try to encourage their
team to find this goal and it comes whipped in
by Mahilevitch.
Speaker 8 (02:15:02):
She can't header this time? Is oh cm. He's about
seven eight yards out and he's frustrated with himself.
Speaker 23 (02:15:09):
I couldn't hit the target, went over the top goal
kicks sound as remains one to one, but again the
threat from corner kicks is palpable callen and the sound
is unable to deal with it.
Speaker 24 (02:15:20):
Whether you're gonna go win that ball and you're a
big guy, whether you're a small guy and scrappy, you've
got to find a way to make it harder on
these guys.
Speaker 3 (02:15:27):
Can you can you get a tug on the jersey?
Can you make sure you bump them before he jumps.
Speaker 24 (02:15:31):
There's little things that you can do, little savviness in soccer,
savviness that you can have.
Speaker 23 (02:15:37):
It comes cool passet left hand side, cuts towards his
right foot, good block by rolled on, but only finds
the foot of Mahilovich.
Speaker 8 (02:15:43):
Ba's a nava.
Speaker 23 (02:15:44):
A good step by rolled on. It flects the ball
out to the fast side the right. Mahalavich picks it up,
kind of makes an overlapping run. He comes back to
Josh attensus steady Eddie in the middle of the park
is Josh Attensu on his.
Speaker 8 (02:16:00):
Game against his former.
Speaker 23 (02:16:01):
Club Left four one point three million go up to
one point six million just the end of preseason. Padrick
Smith calling Moneyball over here, loves his stats. Saw something
in Josh Detenzio's game that fit well with the team
that Chris Armis is building, and he's been ever present
alongside Loria's in the middle of the park.
Speaker 24 (02:16:25):
But I'm thinking about this team right now, and I'm
thinking what would Brian Smetzer be thinking right now? It's
you know, when kim keyhy goes down twice in a minute,
you see guy a lot of legs and away game.
How early do you make a sub here? Or are
you thinking about making a sub? Are you holding one
back just in case something happens in the.
Speaker 3 (02:16:42):
Eighty fifth minute?
Speaker 24 (02:16:43):
You know, I'm trying to think of what Brian s
Metzer might think here, and I think he's going to
hold one because there's a chance that you know, you
don't want to go to ten man if if someone
has to go down like a kim Ki Hey, but
you also don't want to.
Speaker 3 (02:16:53):
Go for it and leave yourself vulnerable.
Speaker 23 (02:16:55):
Well, kim Key's been so solid since he came on,
came up of course against Dollan thing was halftime and
kept that clean sheet played yesterday, won the clean sheet.
As Roth Grog wins the foul off, Maxu just run
to him to a little push on his old buddy Atensia.
Well done, clips out of the top Jordan Morris, can
he find it? As Hansen comes outreach the game well
young goalkeeper picks it up.
Speaker 8 (02:17:17):
Max gives him a round of applause.
Speaker 23 (02:17:19):
But Sounders FC Soccer is presented by Provident Swedish, official
healthcare partner of Sounders FC's we ticked towards the eighty
minute mark Colorado won Sounders one.
Speaker 8 (02:17:29):
This score date is presented by Providence Swedish.
Speaker 3 (02:17:33):
I'd say young Hanson, it's a good MLS debut from him.
He hasn't.
Speaker 24 (02:17:37):
I'll give credit to him, but the Sounders have not
given him enough to do. We haven't given shots on ball,
we haven't been crossing the ball into his area, making
him feel as if he is in the MLS and
not anywhere else.
Speaker 3 (02:17:49):
So he is well done thus far.
Speaker 24 (02:17:53):
Good performance as a young kid, but Sounders need to
put a little more pressure.
Speaker 8 (02:17:57):
It comes wrong decision by Vargas, try to find it,
almost gets it by rothrock It clips off his heels
where his cannon who slid in knocked it off Rothrock.
It's gonna be a throwing for Colorado. Bargas asking a
little bit too much of Rothrock because he played the
ball in behind.
Speaker 24 (02:18:14):
Once again, just a little bit out of sync. Can
the ball beat to his feet rather than in behind?
Can Can we find a way to.
Speaker 3 (02:18:19):
Connect our passes?
Speaker 24 (02:18:20):
And sometimes it is just the basic passes to get
yourself in that flow again, and then you try something
hard again.
Speaker 8 (02:18:26):
Well, you know, gett into the final ten minutes.
Speaker 23 (02:18:28):
There's so many statistics around goals conceded in final ten
minutes as players get fatigued, and it's about mental strength
and mental toughness. Well, see if Ryan Ken can do something.
A little click of the ball to the left hand
side to Rothrock, picked up by Rosnick, finds the foot
of Ken, who's floated from the right hand side now
to the left hand side, overlapping brun Rothrock.
Speaker 8 (02:18:49):
Brings it in. Marris can't quite get the ball bouncing
up in the air, top of the box.
Speaker 21 (02:18:53):
Strike just ride.
Speaker 23 (02:18:55):
By Russnick just inside the eighteen. It sliced off his
right foot, just missed the far post. It's gonna be
a goal kick remains one to one, but really good chance.
For Albert Rosnik.
Speaker 24 (02:19:08):
We talk about sloppy play from the Seattle Sounders and
now you see it from Colorado. Jordan Moore is just
making himself in a noonsense, making it hard for clear.
It falls to a guy you wanted to fall to
in Albert Rusnak, but you see a little bit of
that rust coming in. It was good plagu way to
get your body in front of it from Colorado. But
Albert Rusnak is just showing that little bit of rust
of not having that gainsmanship that he's.
Speaker 3 (02:19:27):
Had over the years.
Speaker 23 (02:19:28):
Yep, Danish international Maxu threw himself in front of it,
just did enough, didn't deflect it, but his presence there
put off Rosneck sliced it off his right foot.
Speaker 8 (02:19:37):
As Kellen mentioned, I'm not sure there's another played one
who to get that ball just dropped to his right
foot perfectly about twelve fifteen yards out from goal.
Speaker 24 (02:19:48):
If it was forty yards out, I want job Paulo
on it because he finds a way to score those
once a year he does.
Speaker 23 (02:19:54):
He's isn't you know, scored in a wall, but certainly
in his first handful of seasons the and Bangers good stuff.
Spenson was always good for a couple of goals from
distance as well.
Speaker 8 (02:20:07):
I was in on zone not so much.
Speaker 24 (02:20:10):
In the first five years of my career as well.
But after that, you know, I just I made sure
the fans got a little gift.
Speaker 8 (02:20:16):
There you go, a gift from calen Row.
Speaker 23 (02:20:19):
It comes that Sounders eighteen yards from the end line,
this right inside, little flicker around the corner by Kent
outstretched leg of Vargas looked tired, outstretched leg. And here
come Colorado with a yapp he cost the half way line,
tries to flick it around the corner. Good defending by
rolled armor, picked up by a tensio. Good ball flicked
around the corner from the high levitch, cleared into the
(02:20:39):
night sky by new headed away by cannon. Little loose
on the head a set gives sound as a throne
on the far side of the left with rothrock back
to Rouzneck chanced just a moment or so, Ago couldn't
hit the target. Couldn't test young Nico Hansen, as you
mentioned first, mlsw is only pro.
Speaker 8 (02:21:00):
Experience has been at the Houston Dynamo two and Colorado
Rapids two teams drafted in because Adam Bowdery and Zec
Stephan were unavailable.
Speaker 23 (02:21:11):
Bowjia due to injury, Stephan due to a suspension. As
Lazus nudges into Knew who goes down dramatically wins the
foul chance. Now for the sound has put some good
delivery into the box and get the big men up.
Can they score Forfreaky which we know Kellen went away
from home. These are the times you've got to take
those chances.
Speaker 18 (02:21:30):
It is.
Speaker 24 (02:21:31):
And look, look, we don't always want to know who
to be streaking down that side as often as he has,
but this is a good play. Get your body in
front of it, make him value, kill the game a
little bit. Get like you said, get your big guys
in the box. Can we put something in there and fight?
These are the small little plays, little nuances that you
want to especially towards the last five ten minutes.
Speaker 7 (02:21:49):
Of this game.
Speaker 8 (02:21:50):
Refree just putting Lauraz's name into the book again, I
felt like a soft yellow and I'm not gonna go
back to what happened at the beginning.
Speaker 23 (02:21:59):
So three subs out for Colorado as we get here
into the final stretch of this game, six and a
half minutes or so of the ninety left.
Speaker 8 (02:22:07):
Laura's is gonna come off. It looks like it's gonna
be a like for light switch with Connor Ronan.
Speaker 23 (02:22:13):
Who's a very effective Irish youth international came over from
Wolves a couple of years ago. It's gonna be subbed
for Ronan. Call Bassett of course comes off as well.
Wayne Frederick coming on. We'll see how they line up.
We'll get you some of those changes positionally in a
(02:22:34):
few minutes. The first thing they have to do coming
on the field, he's gonna have to defend a defend
this specific free kick from the Sounders.
Speaker 8 (02:22:48):
Kevin Cabral comes on the field.
Speaker 23 (02:22:50):
As well, A million dollars from Early Galaxy in December
of twenty twenty two.
Speaker 8 (02:22:55):
Hasn't really found his feet here. Orgos square up the
training field. Maybe as the ball gets flicked in towards
the backstick out comes.
Speaker 23 (02:23:02):
Hanson colects it far too easily wasted opportunity for the Sounders.
Speaker 24 (02:23:10):
It was a little bit deep in the sense of
putting the bass directly in the box would be tough.
I just didn't like the execution of what they came
up with, and like you said, it could be like
a you know on the school yard there and finding
a way to get the back post. It just the
execution of it was not up to stair at Sounders pot.
Speaker 8 (02:23:25):
Or goes along. It's a yappie who came off for cabral.
Speaker 23 (02:23:32):
Or gets launched forward, punts him out of his eighteen
yard box, just drops the ball to a war cm
five minutes to go of ninety Sounders led at halftime.
Speaker 8 (02:23:42):
Conceded in the.
Speaker 23 (02:23:44):
Early minutes of the second half of a clever free
kick for Mihailovich, and it was Danny Massoski's third goal
in three games. Who got the Sounders on the board
sets at one one Here Commerce City, Colorado Sports Radio
ninety three point three KGr FM can sounds found it
a little bit of magic in these final minutes. Can
they find something from deep as my Highlivich strides forward,
(02:24:05):
finds cabral clips it towards the poundy spot up goes.
Speaker 8 (02:24:10):
Foul given by the referee. Hurt the whistle before they
hit the back of the net.
Speaker 24 (02:24:17):
Another warning sign from the Colorado Rappers is that the
referee did blow the whistle like you said before the
ball went in the back of the net, which means
VR is not going to be able.
Speaker 3 (02:24:25):
To overturn that.
Speaker 24 (02:24:26):
But another warning sign Clipral finding a way to he's
got fresh legs and finds that Wing just chips the
ball into the into the middle of the box, no
real pace on the ball and Navarro just getting up
and doing what he does best and put the ball
on frame and it does go in.
Speaker 3 (02:24:42):
But you know, thankful for the Sia alas Shama's fans.
It was a foul.
Speaker 23 (02:24:46):
DeMar and Navarre having a little chat asking for VR
come do anything about that.
Speaker 8 (02:24:52):
Let's come throught audio cats.
Speaker 23 (02:24:54):
The Major League Socker may not be retransmitted, reproduced, or
rebroadcast without the express written consent of Major League Soccer.
And you can hear the home fans or they feel
about it. Booze ringing out here at Dick Sporting Goods
Park because the ball gets flicked in and it was
two hands on the back of Yem Yeamar felt it
went down burned the free kick.
Speaker 24 (02:25:15):
Yem I was saying, I gave you an easy yellow
and I'm gonna get this easy goal as well.
Speaker 8 (02:25:20):
Yeah, flick forward. Here comes Rothrock now on the flick
from Jordan Morris. Good play by Morris looked like it
came off the ankle of Murphy, but nope, sister referee
on this near side doesn't give it. Ball in the
hands of Murphy, left back for Colorado.
Speaker 23 (02:25:34):
On this near side the rapids left right in front
of Chris Armers, hands in his pockets as the ball
goes down line picked up well by Alex Roldan tries
to stub the ball forward picked off by Colorado as
the ball goes into the right channel.
Speaker 8 (02:25:47):
With a willing runner in Cabral, overlap and run by Cannon.
Here it comes, who goes down, blocks the cross goes
over the end line. Corner kick remains one one.
Speaker 3 (02:25:57):
As we look at this replay, it is yeah, two
hands on the back with a mark. But I'm looking
at Cabral.
Speaker 24 (02:26:02):
He's a pasty player. He's willing to run and he's
going to get a new who does who doesn't you know?
He doesn't pressure all that well. He allows the pressure
to come to him and with a fresh leg and
the out. We'll talk about the altitude again, but the
altitude and the heavy legs of a new who towards
the end of this game, I'm not sure.
Speaker 3 (02:26:18):
I like that matchup, and I'd like to see someone
come over. It'd be a Roth Rock or even a
center midfielder of Ovid Vargas or Crystal Baldan to come help.
Can you double down and make sure and just close
this game out.
Speaker 24 (02:26:30):
As words start to happen as we talk about new Who,
once again, we've got to keep our emotions intact here
and not give the referee in Colorado any any edge.
Speaker 8 (02:26:39):
Well, hey, straight off the training grounds, a line of
five burgundy shirts fronted by.
Speaker 23 (02:26:45):
Cabral looks like something off a wedding. They will get
lined up just outside the six Yah books. Heilovich has
the bull Fosseid the Colorado right outswinger. It's gonna be
with his right foot and it comes up, goes am,
goes over the top.
Speaker 8 (02:27:03):
Sounders asked for a goal kick, Colorado, ask for the
corner kick Colorado. One referee gives another corner kick as
Yema pleads his innocence here, there's going to be a
corner kick. And again the movement of Colorado, the ability
to attack the ball on the run is dangerous.
Speaker 23 (02:27:24):
And Heilivich has going to deliver another ball, and it's
been his delivery has caused all the problems as well
put the ball.
Speaker 8 (02:27:29):
In the right areas away from Fry, providing the ability
for his teammates to attack the ball.
Speaker 23 (02:27:37):
And it comes a little lower this time heady clear
by Christian rolled on good header, fluffed by Ronan challenge
on too.
Speaker 8 (02:27:44):
Rose like, hey come the sounds can they come? In transition?
Speaker 23 (02:27:46):
Jordan Murray striding forward, rolls the ball to raft Rock,
white coat of the box, takes a white touch, strikes
it and it drags the shot.
Speaker 8 (02:27:56):
There was his first touch.
Speaker 23 (02:27:57):
Let him down, Maybe a little weary little fit segued dragged.
Speaker 8 (02:28:01):
The shot wide. Go kick remains one to one. But
sounders come in transition were dangerous, you know.
Speaker 24 (02:28:06):
I think a little heavy legs there from Paul Rothrock
and a little bit caught between two minds. He saw
Albert Rusnak making that run in the far post.
Speaker 3 (02:28:12):
But for me when he had that chance.
Speaker 24 (02:28:14):
Oh no, We see Jordan Morris now on the ground
after that long play as he stretched his way, obviously
coming off that hamstring injury.
Speaker 3 (02:28:23):
This is not what you want to see, is a
Seattle sounder fim.
Speaker 23 (02:28:25):
Jordan Morris sitting on the deck here. Ryan Kent has
the ball. Sounders haven't put it out yet not a
good signs knew?
Speaker 8 (02:28:34):
Who does now put the ball out of bounds on
the far signe and his shoulders drop.
Speaker 23 (02:28:39):
And that's Jordan Morris, just disappointment all over his face
and there was exactly what that is. And he looks
so strong flowing forward to that chance as he flicked
the ball to Rothrock and here's that stretch on the
pass as he trudges off the field.
Speaker 24 (02:29:01):
You know, we talk about game fitness and whether you
can get involved in practice to as much running as
you can.
Speaker 3 (02:29:07):
There's there's there's no there's no replacement for a game.
Speaker 24 (02:29:12):
The the intensity, the amount of running, the little clips
that you're gonna get and overstretching, and unfortunately Jordan Morris
hasn't had that and it's it's a tough time to
play and if he's put his body through a lot
over the years, and unfortunately, as he walks off, this
is a it's a hard thing to do mentally. So
we're hoping that Jordan is this is an easy one
and Jordan.
Speaker 8 (02:29:30):
Will come back.
Speaker 23 (02:29:31):
Yep, he's walking off his own volition, which is a
good sign. But his teammates trying to give him the
high five as he walks with his head down, complete
frustration from Jordan.
Speaker 8 (02:29:43):
He knows what the recovery is.
Speaker 23 (02:29:46):
And if it's a hamstring again, it's going to take
some time and the Sounders staff, of course, will make
sure that it's the best treatment he possibly can. We'll
rushing back.
Speaker 8 (02:29:57):
If Jonathan Bell is gonna come on for him, he's
gonna play alongside Kim Keihee Ryan Canterest played the ball
through the legs, isn't able to the Vajo just skips
away from pressure. Fines Connor road a good ball into
Yappy outcomes Cephro and Fry doesn't touch the ball. There's
actually Cabral, I should say made the running behind, couldn't
(02:30:17):
think the ball over. Fry goes over the end like
gol Kit remains one war here in the final minutes
of this game, sound as EA hands strong try to
earn this point on the road.
Speaker 24 (02:30:26):
Cabral's come out of this game and changed it as
a positive for Colorado. He has been all over the
place will like I said, a willing runner and making
good runs, and they're finding him the ball because they
know he has fresh legs and he's finding chances.
Speaker 3 (02:30:37):
Well.
Speaker 23 (02:30:37):
Your sound as a backut home at Luminfield to face

Speaker 8 (02:30:56):
Colorado inside the box. You just stand.
Speaker 23 (02:31:01):
Mahiloitch, curled effort, goes wide, sounds will take that all
day long. At this point, Callen, you just want to
get back in the locker room, earn the point, get
back home and then get what we think will be
a tough game against St.
Speaker 8 (02:31:13):
Louis.
Speaker 23 (02:31:14):
Saint Lewis of course beat us earlier in the season
one goal to nil, a little bit of revenge.
Speaker 8 (02:31:18):
But Colorado is still knocking.
Speaker 24 (02:31:20):
This is one of those games that at this moment,
especially you got a minute or so left. Howeverybody he
wants to add on the referee, But these clearances are
no longer trying to find feet, trying to find a
cushion header. This clearances are now how far can I
kick this up the field and can we push our
lineup and make sure this is not an easy game.
Speaker 8 (02:31:37):
All goes long challenged by Rothrockers now slid up to
that number nine spot in place of Morris, so a
conservative move from Brian tries to see out this game.
Speaker 23 (02:31:46):
It's not been a good game for the Sounders in
terms of quality. They've huffed and puffed the will managed
to really test young Hanson in Colorado's goal. Now they
have to continue to stand strong as Ryan.
Speaker 8 (02:31:59):
Kent't comes flashing best good play by Ryan Brian Schmitz.
Speaker 23 (02:32:01):
Will light that from his new signing as he chases backs.
A Tantio had a good, real, really good shift from
Josha Tensio. As Rothrock comes flying in, tries to nick
the ball off of Wassi him It goes all the
way back to Hanson in the Colorado goal, who rolls
it out to Ronan gets ball to Masu just over
(02:32:24):
just under thirty seconds ago of the four minutes of
at it time.
Speaker 8 (02:32:27):
Sounders just need to see this game out.
Speaker 23 (02:32:29):
John de Bell challenges heads the ball forward picked up
by josh A Tensio flicks it to Navajo and a
Tensio plays into his left hand side to Murphy left
corner of the box, clips it in bought down be Hailovich.
Speaker 8 (02:32:40):
Clear by Kim Kihee finds canon fast sight look I referee,
he was gonna put the whistler's mouth, he doesn't. Ball
comes in head. A good save by Fry at the
death here in Colorado. Makes a critical save as he
did last week against Nashville. It's gonna be a corner kick.
Speaker 24 (02:32:59):
We talked about how Stephen Fry is not just first
leadership but the amount of times that he makes great saves,
and once again he's keeping the Sounders involved in this
game and is now hopefully walking away.
Speaker 3 (02:33:09):
With a point. They have to get through this corner
to do so. But man, what a great save from
step and Fry.
Speaker 23 (02:33:15):
Step and five just nursing, maybe a little knock he
took on the post as he made that save. Now
the Sounder's got to defend this corner gate most likely
the last chance of the game here for Colorado. They've
been dangerous on corner kicks. They have to stand strong.
Now challenge clear the ball. The referee' whistle should go.
As the ball gets whipped in top of the six,
there's Stephan Fry, good solid punch.
Speaker 8 (02:33:35):
Another brilliant play by the Sounders.
Speaker 23 (02:33:37):
Goalkeeper and the referee does put the whistle to his mouth,
brings this pulsating game to a close.
Speaker 8 (02:33:45):
It wasn't a.
Speaker 23 (02:33:45):
Higher quality, certainly in the Sounder's side, but they earned
a really hard four point here on the road in Colorado.
It was Danny Massovski in the forty fifth minute, just
before the halftime break, got the Sounders on the board.
They went in at halftime.
Speaker 8 (02:33:59):
Leading one toil and then within ten minutes of the
second half it is Mahailevich who's slid the ball under
the jumping wall, put it in the bottom corner to
Tony things up and that's the way it finished. Kelen
Royal Final thoughts.
Speaker 24 (02:34:12):
These players are gonna feel a little hard done because
they were up one zero.
Speaker 3 (02:34:15):
At the half, they were feeling good.
Speaker 24 (02:34:16):
They got their players back on the field and just
I think walking away from this one walking away with
a point with how bad the quality was a little bit,
the disoriented, the mispasses that they had, the ability that
you know, thankfully Stephan Fry was in goal to make
those big saves.
Speaker 3 (02:34:32):
I think they're gonna be they watched.
Speaker 24 (02:34:34):
This back, they're gonna be a little happy that they
came away with a point here and a hard place
to play, but they got the fight done, you know,
Missovski finding another goal and finding continuing that streak and
hopefully that can continue because it needs to now that
Jordan Moore stepped away.
Speaker 8 (02:34:46):
Well.
Speaker 23 (02:34:47):

Speaker 4 (02:39:24):
The final from Colorado Sounders one Colorado Rapids one. They
split the points down in Commerce City tonight. Welcome into
the postgame show, Jackson Phelips, James Riley, Marcus Hanneman, as
we're here for the next half hour to break this
thing down.
Speaker 3 (02:39:37):
In my goodness, there's a lot to break down.
Speaker 22 (02:39:41):
Uh.
Speaker 3 (02:39:42):
I don't even know exactly where we want to start.
Speaker 4 (02:39:45):
We can start with the fact that the Sounders should
have played the entire second half a man up were
it not been for a horrific decision by our referee,
Alexis da Silva. We could start with Danny Mazowski scoring again,
third goal in three games. We could start with Jordan
Morris going down in the eighty ninth minute. He just
(02:40:06):
came back from a hamstring injury on a big run.
He goes down again, comes off with his head down.
Or we can start with the fact that we just
got another road point and this continues to be this
unbeaten run where Sounders are now coming home. We're coming
off of back to back wins over Dallas Nashville, and
now draw on the road.
Speaker 3 (02:40:25):
James, where do you want to begin of all of
that and more?
Speaker 5 (02:40:27):
Always with the good Always point on the road in
Colorado at altitude is excellent, and you just move on.
You get the guys into the locker room, right, get
cleaned up, have your debrief, and you get on with it. Obviously,
the injury with Jordan's unfortunate, but it's a point on
the road in Colorado. Whi's not easy, and it keeps
the unbeaten streak alive, which is fantastic, and you return
(02:40:47):
home next weekend.
Speaker 3 (02:40:48):
Marcus, where do you want to start? Well?
Speaker 6 (02:40:51):
I mean it is a great point away from here, yeah, right,
but when you're up one zero in a game away
from home, you should be able to figure out a
way to get away with some points right and disappointing,
I mean, goals happen, and especially you know away from
away in Colorado. You know teams there and they were
creating chances all first half as well. Right, A little
(02:41:12):
lucky with the post and you know just the way
it is, right, but Sounders held strong and we're able
to come out with at least a point from that game.
Speaker 4 (02:41:20):
You said a halftime I think something really smart. You
were talking about, how listen on the crosses in the
corners are you know our zone marking was not working
and Colorado was getting positions on both of them, and
they just kept getting these opportunities over and over and
over again, and it didn't change. And we continue to
see Colorado getting the positions. You know, and Mitchell, if
you have the highlight right now, just because we're on
(02:41:41):
the topic, are we got to get to our emerald
Queen Casino play the match because this was another occasion
of a moment where Colorado get positioning and it is
because of the heroics of Stephan Fry that Seattle ends
up with a point.
Speaker 23 (02:41:54):
Finds Kevin Foss side little I referre he was gonna
put the whistlegs mouth he doesn't.
Speaker 8 (02:41:58):
Bull comes in.
Speaker 23 (02:41:58):
Head a good saved hi Fry at the death here
in Colorado.
Speaker 8 (02:42:04):
Makes a critical save as he did last week against Nashville.
Speaker 4 (02:42:08):
Great from Stephan Fry. The play of the matches presented
by Emerald Queen Casino, the betting capital of the Northwest.
Speaker 3 (02:42:13):
But Marcus to that point, he.
Speaker 4 (02:42:15):
Takes heroics from Stephan Fry because Colorado guys just kept
getting positioning all game.
Speaker 6 (02:42:20):
Yeah, and you know, Colorado's a bigger team than Sounders.
We don't have you know, our center backs are big,
but other than that, we're not massive. Right, So they
were hitting good in swinging corners, putting Sounders under pressure
all night. Stephan Fry didn't wasn't able to come for
across until the dying minutes of the second half as well,
(02:42:42):
because they kept putting people on top of him. Right,
So now Stef's fighting with a center forward in front
of him, and he wasn't able to get a half
a yard where he could then make that move and
come attack the ball. So Steph was staying home all night.
Although those balls were just right, and they were really
good balls just outside the sixth. So if that ball
is inside the six and goalkeeper can't always come for it, right,
(02:43:05):
there's circumstances like maybe the ball's too good, too low,
there might be somebody in front. But when that ball's
just outside the six and you've got somebody standing in
front of you. You got to get around him to
get there. It's very difficult to make for a goalkeeper
to make a play on that.
Speaker 4 (02:43:20):
Yeah, stuff made a couple good plays in this game.
Kept at one point one and Seattle has the point
on the road one to one. Final score tonight, let's continue.
Obviously there is good and getting the result in the
road in general is good. But let's some specifics from
this game to talk about. I want to go and
talk about Alexis to Silva, the referee tonight. I don't
(02:43:42):
know sure if you guys care about talking about this.
I care about talking about this because I am a
fan first, I will always be a fan first. And
what we saw was Jackson Travis, the full back for Colorado,
gets a yellow card in the first half. In the
forty seventh minute. He very clumsily runs into and kicks
or Yabisco just steps into Obed Vargas's shin. You start
(02:44:05):
to see Alexis to silver reach for the yellow card.
You actually see his hand go to his pocket and
then he you can almost watch the realization in his
face of oh, this is this kid's second yellow. He
takes his hand away from the pocket, and goes talking
to It is the most clear cut, freaking yellow card
I've ever seen. And I mean what I wrote here
(02:44:26):
is pathetic, horrifying, terrible in a word that I probably
can't use here on the air about Listen, if it's
a yellow card at any other point in the game,
it's a yellow card. If it's a second yellow card,
it's still a yellow card. James Marcus makes sense of
why the heck this is a legitimate decision that he
makes to say, oh, you know what, I'm not going
(02:44:48):
to give it to you because it's a second yellow.
Speaker 5 (02:44:50):
If it's a yellow, it's a yellow point taken it is,
it's a double yello. It's an easy call, and you
see the referee. It doesn't matter what minute of the game.
If Layer has a deserving tackle or incident that deserves
a yellow, whether it's his first or second, it should be.
So with that said, with that a doubt, I also
agree it should have been a yellow. A thing that
I always tell my players is control what you can control.
(02:45:12):
I think as you go to that you can't control that,
you can control your reaction to that. For me, you
had Russnack with your best quality chance in the second half.
That's one for me where you test the goalkeeper. It's
in the eightieth minute. Hit it with lace. He tried
to hit it with laces. For me, if you put
that almost anywhere on frame, it's a goal and that
was good. The quality of it was Jordan that kept
it alive. Russnach got it on his right foot, which
(02:45:34):
is clinical. We all like, absolutely clinical and maybe tried
to overhit it. Just needs to be anywhere on frame,
hit on the ground, have it skip up. But to
your point, early, without a doubt, it should be a
double yellow. They should play up with a man man
advantage the Sounders and at times, honestly, sometimes that's even difficult, right,
So it's not clear cut when you're playing a ban up.
Speaker 3 (02:45:55):
It would just it scores a few minutes later that
it's frustrating Marcus.
Speaker 7 (02:46:02):
Well, yeah, but referees are always tailored terrible.
Speaker 6 (02:46:08):
It doesn't get me too excited anymore, although there was
there was a time where I definitely I think I'm
still the only MLS player.
Speaker 7 (02:46:17):
To be sent off from the bench.
Speaker 8 (02:46:18):
Amazing.
Speaker 6 (02:46:21):
But to James's point, Sounders only had three shots on
target against a young keeper, right, and you know there
was Knew who had a chance to have a shot
from long range. And I don't really, you know, particularly
think Knew who should be shooting from long range, but
you know he probably should be. You've got a young keeper, like,
we need to get stuff on target. Corner kicks weren't
(02:46:42):
good enough, right, All our set pieces weren't good enough.
We had a chance to get a ball into a box,
what do we do We play it sideways and then
it fizzles out again. Right, Too many short plays where
that ball and this needs to be whipped in in
swingers put that goalkeeper under pressure for sure.
Speaker 5 (02:46:58):
The Sounders, for me, had five clear chances in this game.
In the first half. It was Jesus and then you
had roth Rock that had an opportunity, and then you
had the goal, right, great opportunity there. Second half they
had two legitimate opportunities eightieth minute the Russnach volley and
the eighty ninth minute counter where Jordan unfortunately got injured.
And it was interesting because I thought he was going
to play russknack the whole time. I think he tweaked
(02:47:22):
it on the dribble and the easiest play was to
maybe go to roth Rock and if maybe the Russnat
continues to run to the back post, it goes there.
But honestly, when I'm looking at it, him like he's on,
he's on, He's on, he's on, he's on. When he
played roth Rock, I actually was like, well, I didn't
see that. I think maybe when you go back and
see the replay, he may have tweaked it right before that,
and it's more difficult to maybe plant and play there
(02:47:44):
than to just a little outside of their foot flick.
And then he goes down.
Speaker 4 (02:47:47):
That's the hammi for Jordan, because he just came back
from the hammis, so.
Speaker 8 (02:47:50):
That could be.
Speaker 5 (02:47:51):
But for me, those are their two best chances of
speculations as well.
Speaker 3 (02:47:54):
We don't know, yeah, we don't, we don't.
Speaker 6 (02:47:55):
We don't know anything, right, but see him going down
as no contact, that's no good Rothrock.
Speaker 7 (02:48:03):
I thought he should have shot at first time. Yep and.
Speaker 6 (02:48:08):
Fresh Rothrock in the first twenty minutes for the first half,
but the end of the game when he's up and down,
sprinting all over the place in Colorado, he's got big
old sprint and you know it's laid out for him.
He's got a decent angle right. I mean I think,
just have a go, have a go from just outside
the aighteam and then he's thinking I'm going to take
a touch and then he hands up with the shot cross,
(02:48:31):
you know, because there's a guy making a run to
the back post and I know exactly what he's thinking.
But I think if he shoots that first time, test
that goalkeeper. Just keep testing him. Right, We've got a
young keeper only tested a few times in that game.
Speaker 4 (02:48:42):
Yeah, that had eighteenth minute chance from Hayesus Ferreira where
he's ten yards out middle of the box, no Colorado
player within five yards of him, and he just skies
it to the moon. I mean we talk about, you know,
shots on goal, which is you said five, right, that h.
Speaker 3 (02:48:56):
Three three right?
Speaker 4 (02:48:57):
So three that number should easily be five when you
consider Rusnack in the eightieth and then heyesus in the eighteenth.
It's just it's frustrating because I think, ultimately, yes, it's
a point on the road, we should be happy. But
at the same time, I think a lot of Sounder fans,
myself included, are ridiculously frustrated that this wasn't a full
three points for multiple reasons from our own doing, and
also of course from the fact that we should have
(02:49:19):
been playing a man up for the last forty five minutes. Okay,
we'll continue on the postgame show a lot still to
get to you talking about this game. We' of course

Sometimes I wish we had the ability to record what
we're talking about in the commercial break, like the last
three minutes, I want to just call and paste that
whole conversation. No, but it's good, and I think we
start by talking about what we let off the conversation with,
which is Jordan Morris comes on at the half for
Danny Mazovsky, and my first question was was that the
(02:53:16):
right call to Considering Danny Mozoski scored in the forty
fifth minute right before halftime, He's obviously feeling good. May
have been the plan going in for Mazovsky to come on,
for Mazoski to come off, Jordan Moores to come on
at the start of the second half, But was that
the right call to make that switch if that was
still part of the plan right there at the half.
Speaker 6 (02:53:37):
Well, he took that stupid yellow early on, Yeah, right
when the defender took a dive and you know he
was upset and frustrated and he boots the ball away
automatic yellow? Right was did Schmidz think if we go
down to ten men here, right, let's get him off.
Good time to bring Jordan on? You know, all these
different things, right. I don't know what what factor did
in do that, but that could have come to play.
Speaker 4 (02:53:58):
I think it's really smart the fact that, yeah, they
yellow for Mazovsky. If for everybody's saying, why didn't you
keep moose on that? That certainly probably played a role
in that. Then let's move forward here. I will mention
that tonight's toyon a man of the match is, of
course we played there in the first segment. Stephan Fry,
what a save to get the Seattle to point there
in the ninety fifth minute. With that save, your local
(02:54:18):
toyto dealers are proud to present tonight's man of the match.
And there really wasn't much that Stephan Fry could have
done on the Mahailovich goal that equalized the game. In
the fifty fourth minute, it's a free kick, a Yamar
foul giving up and then Mihailovich from right outside the
box goes low underneath the jumping wall, low to the
left and no chance for Stephan Fry into the back
(02:54:40):
of the net. And there's kind of a couple points
here of a how good Fry was today and then
also be that specific goal. We can talk about Fry
and we can talk about the good here in a minute,
but specifically that goal.
Speaker 6 (02:54:52):
What did you guys see on that play? Well, you've
got a set piece right, it's nineteen yards out. It's
difficult to get that ball up and down make him
beat you. That's the first thing. Like you don't need
to jump right, the wall needs to be strong. But
again if you just if you see the balls going high,
(02:55:12):
jump and me and we were talking earlier about why
he did that go ahead And obviously they've seen the
Sounders while be jumping because he ran straight over.
Speaker 5 (02:55:25):
To Chris Sharp, Yeah, their goalkeeper and set piece coach
when I was there, and Mahalovich jumped into his arm.
So certainly they had an idea of how the Sounders
utilized their wall.
Speaker 4 (02:55:36):
Why was there not maybe like a knew who laying
down underneath the wall to protect against that.
Speaker 6 (02:55:41):
Well, well it looks stupid, that's one reason, but it
would have worked probably. Yeah, But still I think like
if for a goalkeeper, you're standing there, you take your side.
For them to get that ball up and down, usually
they can't get enough power on it. I can now
take one or two steps make you know they're going
to have to put it in the top corner, which
(02:56:02):
is really difficult. And you know, I made a living
out of being a goalkeeper, not by being the best
goalkeeper in the world. I made it really difficult to
be scored on, right. I made people shoot in the
top corners. I saved everything around me. And that's what
Stephen Fry does as well. He makes it difficult. You
put in the top corner. You're going to score on him, right, Okay,
well you have to shoot in the top corners, right,
(02:56:22):
You have to make it difficult. And what's more difficult,
hitting it over the wall with pace, bending it up
and down into the top corner not.
Speaker 7 (02:56:30):
Going to happen.
Speaker 5 (02:56:31):
Yeah, certainly you play the percentages.
Speaker 3 (02:56:32):
I agree.
Speaker 5 (02:56:33):
That's how we set up our wall. We don't have
a guy laying behind it.
Speaker 7 (02:56:36):
We just have them.
Speaker 5 (02:56:37):
The wall can jump a little bit, but not enough
that you allow a ball to go under you, and
not obviously if you're playing on dry turf versus wet grass.
We know Commerce City is very slick and do and
it's a fast paced game there. And then you have
your goalkeeper take care of his side. So you trust
your wall and you have your goalkeeper take care of
his side. If he's able to get it up and
over the wall and beat your goalkeeper, you applaud it
and then you move on. But similar to what you
(02:56:59):
know Marcus said, he's made a great living out of it.
You're just playing percentages. Try to give that that, you know,
the offensive opponent the least percentage, the least opportunity to
get a goal. Until yeah, very unfortunate give.
Speaker 7 (02:57:11):
Up that goal.
Speaker 4 (02:57:11):
Yeah, And I guess credit to the Colorado goalkeeping coach
and set piece coach Sharp, Chris Sharp, well done to him.
Clearly figured that out for Seattle, that jumping wall and
got it in. But other than that, step and Fry,
very very good tonight outside of you know, then out
even with that goal, I mean, there was just nothing
he could have done. But overall, Fry deserving of Man
(02:57:32):
of the Match.
Speaker 3 (02:57:33):
I feel like that's.
Speaker 5 (02:57:35):
Fry being Fried like I thought he was exceptional. Like
Fry being Fried, he makes difficult saves look easy and
like Marcus said, and he'll speak more of it, he
just saves everything that he can't The goal was the
only thing that he couldn't get his hands to, right
the wall, everything else that he was challenged with in
and around here. He made saves up until the eighty
(02:57:56):
ninth and ninetieth minute to keep the team in it
and get a point.
Speaker 6 (02:57:59):
Yeah, the injury time save, you know, top corner that
he was able to deflect out als go on top corner,
you know, it just didn't have enough pace on it
to beat him. Right, He's able to take one two
steps push off, make a really good.
Speaker 3 (02:58:09):
Say great save.
Speaker 4 (02:58:11):
Indeed, Play the Match and Man of the Match Stephan Fry.
Thank him for the Sounders coming away with a point
as it's a one to one final there for the
Sounders in Colorado tonight, I'm gonna remind everybody every single

last forty five minutes of this game, were it for
a better refereeing job by Alexis da Silva. We move
on here in the postmatch show. I'm going to continue
doing that. I'll probably do it on Sounders weekly, every
single segment too. I Am not going to let my
foot up from that horrific decision in the forty seventh minute. Okay,
next week, the Seattle Sounders will be back home to
host Saint Louis City SC at Lumenfield. It'll be a
(03:02:26):
seven o'clock providence. We just prematch show seven to thirty kickoff.
We will have the match right here for you. Sports

Speaker 8 (03:02:33):
Folks.
Speaker 4 (03:02:33):
You can also watch at MLS Season Pass on the
Apple TV app and listen in Spanish language on LRA
thirteen sixty. And now we do not have any confirmation
of what's going on with Jordan Morris. We're kind of
unsure of exactly what his status is or may be
here moving forward. But I think one of the things
(03:02:55):
that we can look to is how Brian schminster organizes
his team when it comes to Hayesus Ferrero, when it
comes to Peter rid Olvega, when it comes to Albert Rusnak,
and do we move to a back four to fit
an extra midfielder in there? So, James Riley, Marcus Sannamon,
I guess we'll kind of just open the discussion with
the question of James, you're a coach with Ballard, with
all of these talented midfielders, what would you do if
(03:03:16):
your head coach Brian Schmitzer.
Speaker 5 (03:03:17):
No great question, I think Unfortunately, I think the injury
makes it a bit simpler. I think you can go
back into a four to two three one, especially at home.
The interesting thing will be, I know Saint Louis has traditionally,
especially for this season, played a back five, So they've
been very defensively focused. But I think at home you
can push it a bit a four to two.
Speaker 7 (03:03:36):
Three to one.
Speaker 5 (03:03:36):
I think you're able to get your your players on
that need to with Mashassi at the point, Russnack behind
it heyesus, Dela Vega and then your two holders in
Ovid and rolled on and then you're back four from
New Who to Jay Mark, kim kahe and you can
even go Alex or Klannie. But that gets you into
more of your traditional preferred lineup, especially coming home.
Speaker 6 (03:04:00):
If you're asking me lineups, it's always going to be
the same answer, four two four two.
Speaker 4 (03:04:06):
I mean, like when one thing that you can do here,
you know four four two, which I think is a
legitimate thought, is to then put Hayesu's up top next
to Mazovsky and allow Haysus to kind of play off
Mazosky and kind of you have a very different type
of players and allow I mean, the original thought this
season was a four four two with Morris playing and
(03:04:27):
Farrah playing off of each other. You can have Farra
playoff Mizovski the same way. Kind of different style of
players I think might might work really well.
Speaker 6 (03:04:34):
Yeah, and then you can I mean I love the
four four two because you could have two out and
out forwards, right, you can have one sitting in low
if he wants to come back get the ball. But
that that's dictated by the players and what they like
to do, right, And you know so much we're like,
we're trying to dictate what what's going to happen in
the game. Well you can't because you know, you sometimes
(03:04:57):
you just can't get the ball, you know, or sometimes
the team defending differently, you have to play where the
players are. So four four two is easy for a
goalkeeper to organize. You know, you got it back for
in front of you. You got another four and then
the other two. They don't matter, right, they do what
they do what they do, And I got these these
eight guys I can work with, right, and so it's
(03:05:18):
just easy for me.
Speaker 4 (03:05:19):
I mean that makes sense too, because what you could
do is you can put Christian Roldana on the right
to play, you know, a higher line than his brother.
You have dala Vega on the left, you have Rus
Snack and obd Vargas, you know, and you can even
form a diamond there in the middle if you you know,
put one up, one back. It's it's all there, James,
I mean, it really is there. And then you you
get more playmakers on the field, and you keep Mazovsky on,
(03:05:41):
you continue to reward him and he's been doing great.
Hopefully you can get four and four. But I mean joking, Marcus,
joking as out of loving the four forty, it actually
makes a ton of sense for the talent that Brian
Schmitzer has right now available to him.
Speaker 5 (03:05:54):
I mean, the four two three one can easily shift
into the four four two. Yeah numbers right, that's higher
and it and it is that. But for me, the
solid area of the four two three one is what
essentially won the group the conker Caft Championship. You know what,
It's just it's just one of the that's been tested
and proven with your double pivots, and then you can form,
you know, in possession, out of possession, you can you
(03:06:15):
can be different. But certainly the four four two, whether
flat more so the diamond possibly is making a big comeback.
But traditionally it's funny because we've had these conversations with
about internally you know, four.
Speaker 3 (03:06:25):
Three three four two three.
Speaker 5 (03:06:26):
One, starting look about the framework and then, but you're
trying to get your best players. Yeah, that's then you're
trying to you have one like what do you traditionally
liked it? And be in And I'll say, okay, four
three three four to two three one. Last year we
were in a four three three. We may be shifting
to fit our players get our players onto the field.
(03:06:49):
So you're right, so it's always player centric as well,
but you do have to have an established framework. But
I would say the four three three, four two three
one and the four four two are the three most
widely played. We even looked at it reback, just not
as widely played anymore, you know, and you have you
have to be very dialed in on your rotations and
positional profiles and roles and responsibilities. But I think a
(03:07:10):
four two three one for the Sounders fit, especially with
the injury. The injury is unfortunate. I think without the injury,
maybe it's a little different, or you just rotate haves
sixty and thirty minutes. But I just think a four
two three one suits this group very well.
Speaker 4 (03:07:24):
You sure you don't want to give any other material
to Mid Lakes or Seattle Junction.
Speaker 5 (03:07:29):
They'll see plenty of our games, looking forward to that.
All good groups, all good teams.
Speaker 3 (03:07:35):
Anything else we want to talk about for tonight or
from next week. We're good.
Speaker 7 (03:07:39):
I'm excited to see him back home.
Speaker 5 (03:07:40):
Yeah, excited back home. It's a good point. I think
it's good when we're disappointed that we don't get the three.
But all in all, we said, yeah, the guys will
be in the in the in the locker room, they'll
get cleaned up, they'll get back to the hotel. What
have your get on the flight, and it's a point.
Wipe your hands and you get on with it, and
you're at home next week, all right, and the sun's
out in shadow.
Speaker 4 (03:07:59):
Yeah, there is turning and we're seeing this team now,
you know, win, win, draw, coming home to face Saint Louis.
I'm gonna go spend forty five minutes on my drive
home cursing the name Alexis ta Silva. And that will
do it for our show tonight. Thank you to everybody
