Foundations One Mile, one Ball program. The Provident Swedish pre
match Show starts now.
Speaker 2 (00:35):
Well.
Speaker 3 (00:35):
Last weekend, your Seattle Sounders picked up a big road
wind down in Houston. Then they played a match on
Wednesday and Los Angeles that we all want to forget.
But here we are now at the end of this
three match road trip and it concludes down in Portland, Oregon,
down at Providence Park to face the Hated Timbers, a team,
(00:56):
by the way that just sits three points above Seattle
in the standings. So welcome to the Sounders FC pre
match Show, presented by Providence Swedish, official healthcare partner of
Seattle Sounders FC, Jackson Felts, alongside the Legends, Chance Fry,
Pete Fewing. We are the a team here to bring
you the pregame show for Sounders Timbers number one hundred
and twenty three. Danny Jackson and Brad Evans are down
(01:19):
in Portland. They're down at Providence Park. They will have
the kickoff call coming up in thirty eight minutes for
Sounders Timbers down there in Oregon. Gentlemen, I should mention
that tonight's match is presented by the Western Washington Toyota Dealers.
Let's start by completely moving past LAFC. None of us
want to talk about that, so let's just not Let's
(01:40):
talk about Seattle Portland because this is probably the biggest
road match of the entire season tonight down in the
Rose City. Pete, all of the atmosphere, all of the memories,
all of the everything going on between their fans, between
our fans, the chance, the t fos. This is a
game like Noah that we see every few times a year,
(02:02):
whether it's here, whether it's there tonight, it's there that
It's just the soccer world in this country is watching
it is.
Speaker 4 (02:09):
It's a great place to go and play. I remember
in the early the first game we ever did there.
Alan Hinton, myself, R Low, Matt Johnson. We were in
a car at the five Ways stop right outside the
stadium and the bus this three Sounder fan buses were
out front, and the cops were moving traffic along, and
these Timber fans, they might have been drinking, but they
(02:32):
went and stood ray right in front of the sound
buses and like saluted the Sounder fans inappropriately and then
fell against the bus, and the cops just walked over
and said, all right, guys, come on, we got all
the bus through. And then it's fun to be yelled
at by fans and you're like, hey, we're just here
to broadcast a game, you know, but it's really fun.
(02:53):
I don't know what it's like in New York, New York,
right for the two New York teams or the two
LA teams. But this, in my opinion, but I'm skewed,
this is the this is the best rivalry because there
is a dislike between the fan base, right. I mean,
they put up they put a billboard in Seattle that
said Portland Soccer City, USA, right there on Highway ninety nine,
and uh, and there's just been bad blood between the
(03:15):
two teams for a long time, so chance you got
to play in this rivalry, and uh, it is I
guess you goosebumps. And I know that. I know that.
For Brian and Tommy, especially because they've been in an adult
most of their adult life, that's a it's a big
deal going down there.
Speaker 5 (03:30):
Yeah, no, it's it is a big deal. And well,
first of all, I mean one thing, congratulations them. That's
their fiftieth anniversary, so that's pretty cool, and we're going.
Speaker 6 (03:38):
To spoil it for him.
Speaker 5 (03:39):
So I've been down we played back in the day
it was Civic Stadium before they've changed it. But great atmosphere.
Their fans down there are are good. They're passionate, they
get fired up like we do up here. But hopefully,
hopefully the sounders are just going to quiet.
Speaker 4 (03:55):
Them down tonight.
Speaker 3 (03:56):
I hope that's the last nice thing you say about
them today. I mean, it's funny pee you mentioned I
was gonna say this for later, but I don't care.
Let's get to it right now. So we were talking
to Brian Spencer this morning and I I doing, you know,
our production calls like we always do, and you mentioned
Tommy and Brian being part of this rivalry, and you know,
one of the things we were talking about was this atmosphere.
(04:16):
And I was talking to Stephan Fry out of training
and I said, you know, Stephan, when you when you
are goalkeeping right in front of Timber's army or right
in front of you know, Timber Joey, who revs his chainsaw,
or at least tries to rev his chainsaw. Sometimes it
stalls on him because it doesn't work like most things
in Portland. But when he's playing in front of Timber Joey,
do you do you tune it out or do you
(04:38):
listen and really embrace the chaos that's that's around you
and try to feed off that energy. And he said, no,
it's just it's tune it out and focus. And Brian
said the same thing as a player. As a player,
you just focus in, put the blinders on, and you know,
play your best with that focus. As a coach, though,
he definitely, you know, has the chance to kind of
hear it more and embrace it more and see it more.
And he's talking about I mean, listen, we all and
(04:59):
I think we understand there is a hatred for for
Timber Joey. And also bringing up the fact that that
Tommy Dutra, the goalkeeping coach for the Seattle Sounders, hates
the fact that timber Joey is not using a legit chainsaw.
And what's interesting is is you kind of I don't
chance you actually then spent the time you did the
homework to figure out, hey, not only which chainsaw timber
(05:20):
Joey uses, the nonjit one, but the fact that, like listen,
that isn't even in the what top something of all
chainsaws being sold right now?
Speaker 7 (05:28):
Yeah, I looked it up.
Speaker 5 (05:29):
We weren't sure what's style of what the brandy used,
but it's a Mikita and yeah, it's not even in
the top ten. I looked it up, and uh, it's illegitimate.
And maybe if you're doing using a battery powered one,
it kind of gets in there. But now we uh,
we have no respect for that chain.
Speaker 3 (05:46):
I mean, timber Joey isn't even a real lumberjack, would
you say, walking in that he owns a construction company, yeah,
does concrete, and which is respectable.
Speaker 8 (05:55):
But but what do you what do you what do
you say that he went to.
Speaker 3 (05:59):
School Tree school, wadies and gentleman timber Joey went to
Tree school. He isn't even a legitimate uh lumberjack, and
he uses a he able.
Speaker 4 (06:07):
To go to. If you have said diploma from Tree School,
you got to give him a little credit.
Speaker 3 (06:11):
Sure, yeah, I mean a little congratulations Joey on your
on your Tree school and broadcasting.
Speaker 4 (06:17):
You have to be somewhat fair. I'm gonna push back
a little bit and say I'm not sure that Sammy
our whale is real. I mean, I haven't been close
to him personally, but from the booth he doesn't look
So I'm just saying that we all have our well, they.
Speaker 5 (06:34):
Had their gut, the fish add and he's holding up
a salmon, and it's like, should move on.
Speaker 3 (06:40):
We should move Only you want to put a whale
up against a human. I'd I'd like to see timber
Joey go up against a killer whale and see how
that plays out. You illegitimate lumberjack who doesn't even use
the correct chainsaw. All right, Uh, listen, we are going
to be knocking timbers all day on the pre match
show because.
Speaker 8 (06:55):
They deserve it, and because I do all honesty.
Speaker 3 (06:59):
I mean, listen, and we can have fun, we can joke,
but this is a team that currently sits three points
in the standings above us. But you look at all
the interesting metrics about the Timbers right now, They're playing
way above their boots. This is a team their expected
goals are way lower than their actual goals. They're expected
goals allowed is way higher than the actual goals they
have allowed. This is a team that is not what
(07:22):
necessarily we're seeing statistically right now of them in the
standings and their goal differential. We'll see if that ends
up playing out tonight between the Sounders and Timbers down
there at Providence Park. Now, let's turn our attention to
our boys and what the Rave Green are putting out
there down there in the Row City.
Speaker 8 (07:38):
With that p fewing, let's get to Brian Schmetzer's Delta.
Speaker 4 (07:40):
Starting eleven, Brian Schmetzer puts out the four two three
to one Stephan Fryen goal. Your captain, Alex Roldan, you're
right back, Gomez Androtti, kim Key here. Your center backs
knew who your left back in the middle of the park,
Ovid Vargas, Christian Roldan, on the right side, Hey sus Ferreira,
and on the left side Ryan Kent. Great one for
(08:00):
him to come into with his history of rivalry games.
Albert Rusnik will sit in the middle of the park
under Danny Massovski.
Speaker 3 (08:06):
And quickly we'll dive into the Providence Swedish team health
report for the Seattle Sounders tonight because there is a
few players. It's of course presented by Providence Swedish official
healthcare partner of Sounders FC. Three players on it. Jackson
and Reagan is still out with the hamstring injury. He
was in full training yesterday though, and you know, talking
to Brian it sounds like it's possible for Dallas next weekend.
(08:27):
So good news there for Jackson, Reagan. Jordan Moore is
still out with the hamstring, and of course Paul Ariola
out with the ACL. So that is what the Sounders
are having. A few other players that we'll talk about
with the Timbers later on when we talk about the Timbers.
But chances as p was listening off that lineup there,
I think you're getting a lot of rotation back from Wednesday,
(08:48):
A very very rotated team down at LAFC. Christian and
Obit back in the midfield, Mazofski back at forward, Ryank
and Albert Rusnack back in there. This is a strong
lineup down in Portland tonight.
Speaker 5 (08:58):
Really strong lineup. And I think Brian I won't say
what he said in the in the meeting today, but
he is expecting a lot of energy from the boys tonight.
He feels like they're going to be rested, they're going
to be getting out there, getting after it. And if
you can't get excited for this game, you can't get
excited for any game. It's going to be interesting to
see though, looking at some of the numbers here, we
(09:18):
can talk about them later, but it's pretty even across
the board between the two teams, so it'll be interesting.
Speaker 4 (09:25):
To give us a statue.
Speaker 5 (09:27):
Fortieth game, yep, they're forty games in MLS fifteen, fifteen,
and ten, so they're just I.
Speaker 4 (09:33):
Think that's remarkable, Yeah, quite honest, it's crazy. Yeah.
Speaker 5 (09:36):
And this year I mean Sounders five four and four,
Timbers are six, three and four the last five or
three to one on one, Timbers two to two and one,
and the gold differential is only one difference with Timbers
up one on us, so.
Speaker 4 (09:49):
That's three, you know, we talk. I was surprised by
the fifteen, fifteen, and ten in their MLS battles, but
It is a very there's a lot of parody between
the two teams. Each team has been in the MLS
Cup Final and one Each team has been in the
MLS Cup Finals and lost. It's so you know, you
talked about the rotated lineup and chances comment about you
(10:10):
can't get up for this game. You know, you can't
get it for any They're all going to be up.
Seattle's going to be up, Sounders, the Timbers are going
to be up for this one. It is such you know,
Phil Nevill gets this rivalry already because of his playing career.
He understands it. So I think this comes down it's
kind of like a championship. You just never know who's
(10:30):
going to dominate the game, and they are so close.
There's so much parody between the two teams. Who does
the job tonight, that's who makes a mistake and who
gets punished, who finishes the chances.
Speaker 5 (10:41):
And even here since nineteen seventy five, its it's pretty amazing.
It's fifty seven forty seven to eighteen, only ten more.
Speaker 3 (10:48):
For us, so exactly, you know, it's interesting as you
talk about kind of the the importance and the fact
that both teams are are going to make this a
big game. And a few years ago, we remember there
was a game where where brian'son didn't in the locker
room like players understood the rivalry. And I think that's
definitely changed a little bit. But you know, I'll always
go back to one of the favorite things I've heard
(11:09):
said about this rivalry when my good friends Steven Eagan
of Radio Cascade, who told me a number of years
ago that the Timbers treat this like their super Bowl.
For us, it's a big game because listen, we play
in soccer super Bowls, we play in CONCACAFF finals, we
play in MLS Cups. That's the norm for the Seattle
Sounders to play in finals between sixteen. Between twenty sixteen
(11:31):
and twenty twenty two, there was only one year where
we didn't play in a final of a tournament, and
I was twenty eighteen. Because we ended up getting so
injured we didn't make it the MLS Cup. But like
every other year, we're playing in a final of a tournament,
whether it be Leagues Cup or MLS Cup or concor Calf,
We're always in finals, right and Portland just doesn't do that.
(11:51):
They're not an organization that gets to finals very often.
They got there in twenty fifteen. Credit to them, They've
got there in eighteen, they lost. They got there in
twenty one. But they don't play in super Bowls like
we play super bowls. That's that's that's not a slight,
it's just a fact. So the fact is is that
we treat super Bowls like super Bowls. They treat this
game like their super Bowl. And I think it's just
(12:12):
such an apt, you know, statement, because it clearly says
that this is their biggest game of the year on
their schedule when they get to host the Sounders, and
we have to make sure our energy level is up
to that point.
Speaker 4 (12:25):
Yeah, there's been guys that have kind of made their
name in this game. Diego Chara, who's surprisingly.
Speaker 8 (12:30):
Is not on the Yeah, we'll get to that.
Speaker 4 (12:32):
Not in there starting eleven, not on the on the roster.
Azzi Alonso, right, has made his mark, Roger Levex made
his mark in this game. Clint Dempsey, Obafemi Martins right.
And but to your point, there is a chip on
the Portland shoulder in in my opinion, Seattle has that
chip as well, but it might be a bit of
a big brother, little brother.
Speaker 3 (12:50):
Well they are there, the little brother because they just
don't win trophies like we win trophies.
Speaker 4 (12:54):
Well there's yeah, I can't argue that we do have
a pretty sol tracked, pretty full trophy because there was
a seven year where it was either a Portland team
or a Seattle team in the MLS Cup final. Yeah,
every year for seventy.
Speaker 8 (13:05):
Fifteen to twenty fifteen to twenty one.
Speaker 4 (13:08):
Which is which is quite impressive. And so yeah, this
is just such a and in this game, it's unpredictable too,
because there was a run where the home team always
lost and it was like eight games in a row
where if you were at Portland you were going to win,
and if Portland was at Seattle, Portland was going to win.
So it's been a really fun rivalry and I look
(13:29):
at it from you know, Brian Spencer's perspective. He enjoys
it so much, this particular game and now he's going
to go play against coach against Phil Nevill. What a
fun thing.
Speaker 8 (13:38):
I enjoy this so much.
Speaker 3 (13:39):
And then just slamming Portland that went way over on
our commercial break, we got to take a break. We
had to come back and talk about the Portland Timbers
on the field as specifically, you know what this team
can can do to the Sounders here tonight.
Speaker 8 (13:51):
We'll come back.
Speaker 3 (13:52):
I will tell you that we are just about twenty
five minutes away from kickoff down at Providence Park in Portland.

Now back to Seattle Sounders Sucker on Sports Radio ninety
three point three kjr FM.
Speaker 3 (17:11):
Welcome back to the pre match show Sounders Timbers number
one hundred and twenty three down there at Providence Park
in Portland tonight. You know, Chance was going over the
numbers of the Porland Timbers last segment, and you know, listen,
I mentioned the analytics say that they're not as good
as they are, but overall what they are right now
is still pretty good, six three and four compared to
(17:32):
Seattle's five four and four. So just one loss divides
these teams where one of our losses is one of
their wins. Twenty two goals is a lot, but again
it's more than their expected goals. Nineteen goals given up,
which is less than their expected goals. Conceded one one
and one at MLS this month, a four to one
loss to San Jose. They beat Kansas City one nothing,
(17:52):
and they got past the Tacoma defiance in the US
Open Cup. I say got passed because I don't mark
that as a legitimate win. We'll get to that later on,
maybe later with a refereeing, but anyway, listen, Phil Neville,
head coach, been a mixed bag. They still believe in him.
They got some good players, even losing a vander to
Cincinnati there in the offseason. They still have Felipe more
(18:14):
with five goals and two assists, Antony with four goals
and seven assists, DaCosta with two goals and six assists. Kelsey,
who is out today, has four goals as well. Santiago
Moreno who's in there, has three goals two assists. And
Jonathan Rodriguez off the bench, is a very good forward.
He's been kind of injured this year, but he's certainly
a threat as well. And as Pete mentioned, Diego Chara,
(18:35):
the legendary midfielder with the Timbers. He was questionable with
a lower lower body injury.
Speaker 8 (18:42):
Coming into today. He is out.
Speaker 3 (18:44):
No Diego Chara for the Portland Timbers today. They are
starting Crapo. Is there a goalkeeper, Maskira sermon a twenty
one year old kid from New Zealand, Kamal Miller forty
or tez Ayala Moreno da Costa, Anthony Mora. Seven of
those starters also started in Wednesday's game against Salt Lake,
so they may have some tired legs in this one,
(19:07):
but we will see what the Timbers end up doing
here tonight against the Sounders in Providence Park. Let's switch
big Gears back to the Seattle Sounders because we've talked
enough about how good the Timbers are. We'll switch back
to the Hatred a little bit. But listen, let's let's
get back to the Sounders and give our players to watch,
because I think with this rotated back team to what
(19:28):
more we saw a week ago for the wind down
in Houston, there are a lot of different choices chants
for who you want to choose for your player to watch.
Speaker 5 (19:35):
You know what, there are a lot of good guys
and I always sort of tend to go for attackers
or something that's going to get goals. But I'm going
to go with Massovski tonight. I want him to, you know,
get back on the score sheet after the last game,
and you know, he's I think he's been doing a
great job. He's been getting in the box, he's been
doing some things. He's got a different look than Jordan has.
(19:55):
We're totally wanting Jordan to get back, but having two
guys that different things and can score different ways. Is
really great and I'm really happy for him.
Speaker 4 (20:04):
Pete Ryan Kent because he's he's gonna be on the
left side Moreno and Anthony are on that left. On
their right side, He's gonna have to do the work
both directions. He's going to have to defend right ma
Reno three goals, Anthony four goals, seven assists, right service
coming from that from their right back. So Ryan Kent's
gonna have to have a good game both ways, offensively
and defensively.
Speaker 8 (20:25):
I like it.
Speaker 3 (20:26):
Other side, Hayesus Ferrera is a guy that we brought
here not only to get assists, and he's he's done
a good job getting assists, I believe seven across all competitions,
five assists in MS.
Speaker 8 (20:36):
He's been good. At some point, he needs to score.
Speaker 3 (20:39):
At some point, he needs to find the back of
the net, because he's done so with the United States Men,
his national team, he's done so with Dallas, and it's
time we start to see this scoring ability here. So
we know that playing in this four two three one,
Al Schroldon is going to get up that right side.
He's going to advance his position when he does.
Speaker 8 (20:57):
We need two things.
Speaker 3 (20:58):
We need Haysus Frere to talk in and then go
towards the box, make runs into the box. And if
you're Albert Rusnak, if you're Ryan Kent, if even if
you're Mazovski on a hold up, play finding a running
Haesu's Ferrara, who then takes his chances. I need to
see Ferira not only being somebody who can accent the
attack and find a Mazofski or find a Roosnak, but
also scoring the ball himself. And listen, if he was
(21:21):
to score his first goal for the Seattle Sounders in
this rivalry down at Providence Park, that would be a
hell of a first goal to have in Rave Green.
So I want to see that tonight from Haesu's Ferira.

Speaker 3 (25:04):
Welcome back to the prematch show Sounders Timbers number one
hundred and twenty three coming up here in thirteen minutes
here on ninety three point three kjr FM. Hey, a
couple days ago, Brian Schmitzer was on our airwaves and
Brian Schmeitzer always joins Dave, Softy Maller and Dick fan
Usually the interviews are Tuesdays.
Speaker 8 (25:20):
At five forty five.
Speaker 3 (25:22):
We were able to talk about some big news that
came out on Thursday, as well as Seattle's professional soccer
clubs and iHeartMedia Seattle have expanded this multi year agreement
to bring fans closer to the teams they love. Sports
Radio KJR deepening its commitment to be the flagship audio
home of Sounders FC, while also welcoming in rain FC
(25:44):
onto a major audio platform for the first time in
club history. The partnership not only extends this commitment as
the flagship's audio home of Sounders FC, but now formally
integrates rain FC into our broadcast family. There's expanded weekly programming,
cross plot cross platform storytelling. You can read more from
the release soundersfc dot com. Also on social media as well.
(26:08):
But very very cool to have this expanded partnership now.
Also on Thursday, Brian Schenzer was on the air with
Softy and Dick Faine and had some thoughts about not
only the city of Portland, but it's specifically what he
has seen from the Timbers this season.
Speaker 23 (26:23):
Well, they're outperforming all their stats. You know, Jackson can
tell you all the expected goals and they're outperforming things.
They're just believing that they can win. And they had
a good midweek results against RSL and nil Mill draw
on the road for them. They won their last home game.
So you know, we're not afraid to go down there.
(26:44):
We've actually had some very good games down there. But
it is going to be a challenge.
Speaker 4 (26:49):
Yeah.
Speaker 24 (26:49):
I just think that this complimentary tone that you're taking
towards Portland right now, I don't like it, and I
want to hear you say something derogatory about Portland.
Speaker 23 (26:59):
Okay, Portland sucks.
Speaker 8 (27:03):
There's a drop jack I know speaking of it.
Speaker 3 (27:05):
I will give you the expected goals here because you're
better than Portland in both categories. Seattle for expected goals
twenty one point two. Portland is only at sixteen point four.
Speaker 24 (27:13):
Or five ahead there for allowed, you're also for seven sorry,
seven below them. I mean a couple of weeks ago,
I think you asked us the question, the rhetorical question,
why can't we play the same on the road as
we play at home?
Speaker 2 (27:26):
Then you went out and won three to one at Houston.
Speaker 14 (27:29):
So how do you play like that again in a
hostile environment like the Timbers. Or is it even possible
to do that down there?
Speaker 23 (27:36):
You think, no, it's possible. Look, we went down there
a couple of years ago, maybe it was last the
year before, I think, beat them six to two. We've
had some good results there. Last year we were one
one and one against them in the regular season. Those
games are always tough because there are art rivals. They're
going to be up for the game. The fans always
(27:57):
get into it. You have got the fish and all
the stupid things they stay up there. So I mean
it's going to be a good atmosphere. Our guys loves
playing in that atmosphere, and you know, hopefully hopefully we
can you know, play well and give them the middle finger.
Speaker 4 (28:12):
After the game.
Speaker 3 (28:13):
Hopefully we are all giving them the middle finger, especially
from all our fans tucked up there in the corner
of Providence Park, and hopefully the Sounders are walking away
with a lot of angry Timber fans at Providence Park tonight.
Speaker 8 (28:24):

FL seven minutes away from kickoff down at Providence Park
in Portland, Oregon. Sounders timbers number one hundred and twenty three.
Today's countdown in a Kickoff has been presented by Emerald
Queen Casino, the entertainment capital of the Northwest. As the
guy said earlier here in the pre match show fifteen,
fifteen and ten, the clubs are against each other in
MLS history. Sounders, though leading the all time competition fifty seven,
(32:07):
forty seven and eighteen, they were one one and one
against each other last year in twenty twenty four. Let's
get to tonight's key. So the match chance, what are
you looking for Tonite For a Sounders win.
Speaker 5 (32:18):
The Sounders need to play with a lot of passion.
They need to be into the game, which they will be,
but then stay calm at the same time, stay focused
and everything. And we were talking about both teams. They're
both good teams. They look good on paper and everything,
but as we say, paper doesn't play, it's going to
be humans out there, and we need to take them
on and just really win our one on one battles.
Speaker 4 (32:38):
Can't shut off defensively restarts, especially their right side, our
left side. We need to nullify their right side. Danny
Massowski has to get back to what he did for
those games where he got five goals in a row.
It was getting to the near post. Albert Rusnik that
the late run through the box very important. Wingers have
to do their job. I like what you said earlier
Jackson about Ferrera inside Alex getting around him. So they've
(33:03):
just got to have a complete game. Chances point, you
got to control the emotions at the beginning. And these games,
you know, they can be won and lost in the
first couple of minutes because of the emotion, because of
switching off. So Seattle has to make sure that they
play the full ninety minutes. And it does come down
to who wants it more sometimes on restarts inside the box,
(33:24):
on blocking things, on getting the balls. So I'm really
excited about this game. You know, Wednesday's game with La
was it was fun to get ready for it, but
this one feels different.

Now time for SOUNDERSFC Sucker.
Speaker 7 (37:04):
Good evening from Providence Park in the heart of downtown
Portland for the biggest rivalry in Major League Soccer between
your Sounders and the Portland Timbers. The Timbers are in
a good run for over recent months, losing just once
in the last ten games. Phil Neville is enjoying his
second season in charge and starting to mold the team
(37:24):
to his liking, and the old guard is starting to
make way for the new. But experience is what Neville
will rely on here tonight for your Sounders. They enjoyed
a heavy four nil loss to their newest rival at
MLS in midweek LAFC, and now they face their oldest
and greatest rival inside a cauldron of noise. Wednesday will
(37:46):
be merely a distant memory if they can earn three
points tonight and sing their famous jingle bells in the
belly of this old stadium. We celebrated our fiftieth anniversary
last year. The Timbers celebrate now, spanning generations of fans
and players. This is one hundred and twenty third meeting
between these great clubs, and the Sounders are here to
(38:08):
spoil the party. I'm Danny Jackson alongside former Sounders Captain
Brad Evans here.
Speaker 6 (38:14):
In the booth.
Speaker 7 (38:15):
Before we get to Brad for his initial thoughts, let's
get you the delta. Starting eleven for Brian Schmetzer and
his men, stepan frying goal, the back four of roll
done yemar Kinmkih and Knuho Christian Roldan alongside Obed in
the middle of the park. Hez Who's Ferrera Albert rosnak
Ryan can make up the attacking three midfield players that
sit right in behind Danny Mussovsky for Phil nevill and
(38:38):
his Timbers crew is Maxine, Craper and gall and back
four of Mosquerra, Simon, Miller and Fourie. Midfield two of
Ayala and Autis sit right in front and attacking three
of Moreno da Costa and Anthony, and then main man
Mourra upfront. So as the teams get going, Sounders in
their anniversary kit green shirt, blue shorts, white socks, they're
(39:02):
gonna be tacking the goal to our right. And then
it's gonna be the Timbers in all dark green tonight
they're gonna be tacking their cup end in the first
half the team the goal to our left, So Brad,
as the Timbers get ready to go, raucous crowd, big
sounders contingent down to our right.
Speaker 9 (39:23):
This scene is set for amongst the game tonight. And
so I was gonna say the scene is set tonight.
And when we pulled up in the buses, the Timbers
fans gave us a little taste of what it's like
coming up here. And that's how much this rivalry means
to both of these teams. Portland Timbers are gonna come
out strong. Like you said, one loss in the last
ten games, that front four is one to be feared,
and they put the ball in the back of the
neck quite a bit. And for the Sounders back to
(39:45):
a regular starting eleven. But the front four haven't started
a game just yet. So you got Hey sus Ferrara
and Ryan Kent on opposite side of Danny Mussovski and
this is a great atmosphere for both of those guys
to jump into.
Speaker 6 (39:57):
This is the kind of game that Ryan Kent wants
to be involved in.
Speaker 9 (39:59):
Right, come from crazy fans over in England and then
you come here into Portland.
Speaker 26 (40:04):
It has that vibe and energy I've forgot tim as
gettis going here back forth four two three one versus
A four two three one tonight evenly match in terms
of formation. Both teams similar stats in terms of goals
for and goals against, so we expect to see something
tonight in front of both sets of goals.
Speaker 7 (40:27):
It should be a good one for the neutral is
the one that both sets of players and fans highlight
and circle on the calendar at the beginning of the year.
Speaker 27 (40:36):
And here we are in the old stadium where the
first Sounders Portland game happened over fifty years ago, and
the Sounders came out victorious that evening.
Speaker 7 (40:48):
As the ball gets knocked forward, headed forward by Alex,
rolled up, picked up by Musoski, clips it inside to Rusnak,
given away top knocked up a moreno too, Ortezer gets
Pucket picked Dormos picked up by Sermon, who got his
debut last year in Decision Day against the Timbers. Has
been a mainstay in the back for the New Zealand
(41:10):
International as they build out of the back.
Speaker 9 (41:12):
Oh, you can throw all records out the window. And
you know as well as I when it comes to
Darby's and rivalries, everything goes out the window. It doesn't
matter if you're at first and one team's in last.
This matchup always has something special. It seems very rarely
are they neil nil draws and boring games, so tonight
shouldn't be anything different. As the two teams start to
(41:33):
get set up, like you said, four two three one
for both sides, and hey, this is the game for
Hayesus to come out.
Speaker 6 (41:38):
This could be the coming out party.
Speaker 9 (41:39):
That's what we want to see from Hayesus tonight, being
that danger player that we've seen so many times playing
for FC Dallas. Just yet to get off the mark
for the Sounders. But I think, just like Misowski, once
that first one comes, that's where the confidence comes from.
Speaker 7 (41:54):
Is Vogas middle of park is continuing to mature right
in front of our very eyes. It's crazy to think
how young he still is. The teenagers. So Sounders, can
they just keep it nice and tight in these early stages.
It's all about emotion. Managing those emotions in the early
minutes in these games. As the crowd boo a decision
by the referee, let's hook. The referee doesn't get involved
(42:16):
as much as he has in past weeks with the Sounders.
Sounders have the ball, their feet just slowing temper. Managing
the game these early minutes so so important. As Ryan
ken as Bride Nevers mentioned, it's been in the old
third Derby, has been in big games before Merseyside Derby.
Of course, having grown up in the Liverpool systems, ball
goes out.
Speaker 6 (42:35):
Fon signed for Timbers throw well the one thing that
this game is missing.
Speaker 9 (42:38):
When you talk about rivalries, you think of the big
players for both sides, right, you think of the Asie Alonzo,
you think of Raoul, you think of Freddy, you know Clinton.
Now you look at a Portland team in the mainstay
in char that's been there for so long and to
see him absent from the field, it just doesn't seem
the same.
Speaker 6 (42:53):
Right, at least two that will sit for Portland Timbers.
Speaker 9 (42:59):
Well, they'll be relishing this opportunity to be the two
in the midfield to get the job done against a
rival at home.
Speaker 7 (43:05):
Iola alongside new signing or Tease just came in a
handful of weeks ago, so Iola's getting himself back into
full formed. Phil Nevill has spoken about Iola as really
one of the best best central midfield players in the.
Speaker 28 (43:20):
League because he's come back from acl injuries.
Speaker 7 (43:23):
The ball gets hipped in behind, picked up well by
Alex Rolldan, but then picked up by new signing Dacosa
DP coming in to replace a Vander who was a
big money transferred just before the season kicked off twelve
million dollars as an interleague transfer they are allowed now
and the Portland Timbers made full took full advantage of
(43:43):
that opportunity, recouped most all of his transfer fee when
he came out from Denmark a handful of years ago,
had a big season last year, transferred to Cincinnati and
now DaCosta filling spot.
Speaker 28 (43:55):
Sounds down the right hand side, ripped in well, and that's.
Speaker 7 (43:57):
Musosk inside the six yard box. He had a chance.
It's gonna be a corner cake, but Masoski heading hands,
there was no opportunity inside the six fluft his Lions
corner cake.
Speaker 9 (44:06):
That's what you want from your wide players. And how
many times have we said that this year? Alex rolled
on with a well swung in ball. Not many, but
that's him at his most dangerous. Makes the interception down here,
but that starts the counter attack and Jesus picks out
a really nice pocket there at a one touch pass
that Alex Mansaski would like to have that one back
as the ball just skips in front of his right foot,
the Sounders getting cornericick.
Speaker 7 (44:28):
We'll see what Andy Rose has up his sleeve. Most
on Andy today's and he's got a couple of things
to work from on this set piece here it is
first corner cake right hand side. Aunswinger whips it in
headed clear by more than number nine, picked up on
the halfway Line's gonna go all the way back to
step and from back in the goal tonight took a
breather in midweek, allowed Andrew Thomas to get a well
(44:51):
earned ninety minutes and the sticks. Wasn't a great result
for the Sounders, but how much Andrew could do on
most of those goals little deflection on the first. Musowski
just needs to be careful. He's given away a few
silly yellow cards like that. When he's kicking the ball away,
it needs to be a little careful. Branch Schmetz doesn't
need his main goal scorer right now with Jordan Morris
(45:11):
being out to get any silly yellow cards.
Speaker 9 (45:13):
Maybe some of that frustration is not being able to
start in LA right. You hope that he's fired up
and excited and obviously we wanted to get back on
the score sheet.
Speaker 1 (45:22):
Yeah.
Speaker 9 (45:23):
I gotta control those emotions in these games, because once
you get one early one, the referee is looking.
Speaker 6 (45:27):
Out for you the rest of the time. Yeah.
Speaker 7 (45:28):
Danny Massoski was five goals in five straight games before
LAFC and then it was an eight changes for Brian
schmitzem showing the respect he has for this game. And
it was just a year or so ago in this
when Brian Schmetz had to read the right Act to
his players, just remind them how big of a game
this is. Diego Chara talked about it at his press
conference just before the game this week and said, yeah,
(45:51):
most of these players have been in big games coming
from different countries, but this is just a little special
when it relies on MLS and their history. Fiftieth anniversaries
mentioned for the Timber tonight Well this year sound has
celebrated alongside Vancouver and San Jose. Last year is Anthony
ran from the field nevill down the line. It goes
at the cost of Well. They running down the right
their left hand side, good defending bike. This fellow countryman Yama.
(46:15):
It's gonna be throwing twelve yards or so from this
near corner flag Portland attacking the goal to od left
and their dark green ninety three point three.
Speaker 28 (46:24):
KGr FM belly of the bast here Providence Park.
Speaker 7 (46:29):
There's a Sounders earn a free kick just top with
their box and the Sounders will take that opportunity. To
take a breath and just push up that line.
Speaker 9 (46:36):
The history is what makes us one really special, right
and it's got to be hard for a player like
Ryan Kent. Heyesus they've seen this game from a far,
I'm sure, but to be in it, it takes a.
Speaker 6 (46:46):
While to build on you.
Speaker 9 (46:49):
When you're playing for the badge on your shirt, it
takes a while to build that in. But once that
first goal goes in, that's when it really I think
clicks and when you silence this crowd.
Speaker 6 (46:57):
That's where he says, Okay, this is a big Darby.
Speaker 9 (47:00):
Once you celebrate with the fans in the corner, it
means something just a little bit extra in these ones.
Speaker 7 (47:04):
Headed forward by Fury, who's back in the lineup to
the ft missing the last couple of games, ball in
Sibasovski and that's it for rare. A good quick Boland
side too, rolled on is able to turn out of
pressure played to kim Keihe who has stood in for
Jackson recas so well. It's for a little while to
get fully matched fit, but now he is, and he's
been ever present in the last month or so in
(47:27):
the back line. Him on that halftime when Jackson Reagan
against Dallas. But it comes Anthony there assists man five
assists that last five games, goes across the mascara.
Speaker 8 (47:36):
Top of the box, strikes it just right.
Speaker 7 (47:39):
It's gonna be a goalkick Sounders here in the early minutes.
Eighth minute Providence Park, Downtown Portland, Nail Neil Sounders Boland Timbers.
Speaker 9 (47:47):
And this is what happens when you don't challenge for
every fifty to fifty in this game. You'd rather see
Jesus get up for that ball in Portland zone half,
commit a foul, stop the play and within three passes.
We've talked about it in a pregame and everything. If
you don't stop to play early, this Portland Timbers team
will punish you. They've showed it over and over this
year and you must, it must be challenging for every
(48:08):
single ball in these darbys.
Speaker 7 (48:10):
Moscarett did have the opportunities for twenty two yards out
or so, and it's Moscara has been the thorn in
the Sounder's side here at Providence Park. He was his
goal the fourth Golden that four to one drubbing just
a year and a half ago, and then last year
as well in that one nil win at the end
of August. It was his goal, but acon the sounders
in Musovski rent from the assistant referee, how is that
(48:32):
not a foul? Bred Evans arms up in the air.
Referee is saying he got a touch, but how on
earth is he gonna get a touch from that angle?
Speaker 9 (48:40):
Well, Danny Mazovski, it's a great and it's a great
ball from Yamar. Danny Masowski beats his defender, gets ahead
on it and gets kicked in the face, and the
referee is circling like his own Portland Timber player got
the ball, but the ball ends up forward, forward.
Speaker 6 (48:55):
Into the goalkeeper's hands.
Speaker 7 (48:56):
So I'm not sure Kamal Miller was coming from the side.
The only conceivable place that he could have played it,
unless he's got a left foot like Messi, is to
play it out of bounce.
Speaker 9 (49:07):
And the reference, I mean, the sideline is standing right
there as well. He couldn't be a better view.
Speaker 7 (49:11):
Well, we asked one, We asked the referee not to
get involved, but maybe he needs to get a little
bit more involved than he has in these early minutes,
just for us. I guess it's just for us. Maybe
maybe This is an occasion big for him as well.
He needs to find his feet as well as you
get here in the tenth minute Timbers nil Sounders nil.
Tonight's match is presented by the Western Washington Toyota Dealers.
(49:35):
Sounders third straight away game in a week Houston three
to one win. The loss, as we mentioned at LAFC
in midweek, with eight changes the four nil lost. But
it really should have been a little bit less than that.
Two goals. Who was the very end of the game
when the Sounders were a stretch and then tonight against
the Timbers, no bigger game in MLS for either club.
(49:56):
Sounders get a break until next week.
Speaker 9 (49:58):
Well, this is this is one where you need every
Sounders player to be crowding the rep saying, hey, did
you not see what everyone on our team saw in
that in that situation, Instead you just have hey, sus
wh've got jam while that comes up and the rest
are getting back in and I think you're saying analysis,
not a fout getting kicked in the face, head.
Speaker 7 (50:16):
Scratcher for all of us.
Speaker 28 (50:17):
We've got a high vantage point in the stand.
Speaker 7 (50:19):
Here, as Mussovski makes a couple of runs, is the
double check who's a kick in the head. So of
course they're going to go through a couple of checks.
As the doctor down below is going to have a
couple of questions. The Massovsky thumbs up.
Speaker 28 (50:31):
It's going to give the old clear green light to
get back on.
Speaker 7 (50:34):
Nonnie comes.
Speaker 28 (50:37):
So the Sounders had a couple of opportunities.
Speaker 7 (50:39):
Missoski the thick of it inside the six yard box
from across Malex rolled on and then right there just
nipped in front of Kamar Miller. I think you'd have
to say that Kamar Miller might be a whakling back
there opportunity for Mssovski and the team to take advantage.
As Anthony knits on the heels of Christian back in
the lineup alongside is partner Obed. Today's board goes a
(51:00):
great ball towards Ryan Kent, brought down fantastical the top
of the bucks gates must scare a quick feet by
Ryan Ken and then tries to flick it around the
corner over the end line. Go kick here the drove
minute Timbers nil Sounders.
Speaker 6 (51:13):
Neil Bredevans, I'd like to have that one back.
Speaker 9 (51:14):
But before that play, it's all about Christian Roldond He's
found that pocket so many times today, and that's gonna
be the outlet that was missing from LAFC. Is gonna
be Christian Roldan's positioning and how he pairs with a
little bit. Now they're not overrun like they were against
LAFC in the middle, in the middle of the pitch.
But then that allows that long ball to go in
from Christian to Ryan Ken. What a touch out of
(51:36):
the air. It just bings it, kids it straight underneath
the floe on the ground and it's just a little
too fancy. At some point you got to take the
guy on. I think you and I talked about it.
Brett is that Kent could be that four over the
top as well. He's got the speed and the quickness
of feet for sure. But here comes the Timbers thirty
yards from goal.
Speaker 7 (51:52):
Dead censor is Decustus rolls it out to the far
side the right to must Scare rolls it inside the agbo.
So the cuss made their run. Christian roll don't follow it,
and then picked it up well inside the eighteen oh
going to Christian roll done goodness, gracious hat and mouth
tying there it was a square pull on the sixth
(52:14):
I think Brian might just give Christian will reminded maybe
that's not the thing to do.
Speaker 6 (52:18):
But he got away with it.
Speaker 7 (52:20):
Clash of bodies between Simon and Russneck and that was
a bit over fifty to fifty collision of bodies than anything.
Speaker 9 (52:29):
I haven't seen Albert Rusnak get into a challenge like
that ever, I don't think.
Speaker 6 (52:33):
And that's a pure shoulder to shoulder. You love to
see it.
Speaker 9 (52:36):
Albert with the first one to lay into a tackle
tonight and that'll set the tone for the remainder of
this one. But Christian Roldan with a pass right across
his six in front of Stephan Fry would have been
a great assist if Mora had been there in the
right position. But the Sounders be able to skate free
push forward. Now it's about the Sounders maintaining a little
bit of possession right, not letting Portland Timbers get into.
Speaker 6 (52:58):
This one absorb. But it's that outlet ball.
Speaker 9 (53:01):
As this team shifts across and Albert does the right thing,
makes a challenge, doesn't let the Timbers counter attack.
Speaker 7 (53:07):
Timbers have it with Anthony the middle of the Parkers.
He goes from left across the middle so it's moreno
to try to thread it through, picked up by Kim
Keih and again rolled on hes playing it back, putting
his brother in a little spot of bother once again.
Where you need some of those journeymen for the Sounders.
There's no question that the Sounders have the experience in
(53:27):
games like this. Yes, Azus Ferrara has not been in
a Portland Timbers Sounders derby, but he has been in
Texas derbies. He's played in some big games of course,
huge success at FC Dallas. Can he find his first
goal tonight? The ball goes in, Yemark clears it off
the Shinna Marino and Kim Ki. He goes across. Potentially
Marino could have gone down who was now stretched leg
(53:49):
by Kim Kieve and he goes over the endline goal.
Kate maysnil nilm.
Speaker 6 (53:52):
Yeah, it was very well done by Kim Key. Either.
Speaker 9 (53:55):
I think if I'm in that position, I think he's
gonna cross and I go down and then you commit
the penalty. But he doesn't really good job of keeping
his feet. Every defensive coach will say you have to
keep your feet as long as possible in the box. Yes,
if he looks like he's for sure gonna line up
and shoot. You got to sacrifice the body at the
last second. That's the hardest part about being a center back.
Right you get an attacking player who's coming into your
box at full speed and then you leave your feet
(54:16):
and that's when the fouls committed.
Speaker 6 (54:18):
Not as a veteran play.
Speaker 7 (54:19):
It comes over at Vargas. Now split the lines. He
has clips it out to Russneck time in space to
turn finds Christian middle of the park, shifts it out
to the far left to Ryan kN Now he's got
a chance one be one. He's gonna take a chance.
Speaker 28 (54:31):
And what SCAA does well steps in wins the ball.
Speaker 7 (54:34):
Does most scare say his offensive prais is his strength
on his defense, But right there he did a good
job one be one against Ryan Ken, who's been elusive
figure so far and his introduction to MLS fastest to
three assists and relative to the number of minutes he
has played coming into the LAFC game. Came off the
bench to know he gets to start against one.
Speaker 6 (54:56):
Thing we talked about it in LA was it comes
to crowd into it.
Speaker 7 (55:01):
Bull goes out to Ryan's side to Moreno. One v
one versus new and then it's Ryan Ken as well
comes back to do his defensive jutes. Ball goes into
Mussovski pulls it down well, good play by Massovski finds
Ferrera on this near side the right, back inside to
Vargas to switch the point of attack from bright of
center to the far side, the left to Ryan Kent,
(55:22):
back to Christian Royal. Darn Sounders now taking a breath
from the ball, managing the game.
Speaker 9 (55:26):
What we talked about with Ryan Ken midweek was that
he's so fast in pacing that he doesn't have to
make that move so close to the defender. You've got
someone lined up outside the eighteen, you really only need
four yard space. Send the move and be at full
speed and get inside the box. And most of these
defenders in Major League Soccer are going to commit a foul. Well,
they're going to get lost in the fray, and off
you go to Gold like he did in Houston, like
(55:49):
he's done on all three of his assists.
Speaker 7 (55:51):
Really, Sounder's ticking up a little bit of possession forty
four percent possession for the Sounders right now as they
start to find some rhythm in the game. Sixteen minute here,
Neil nil Sport's ready in ninety three point three KGr FM.
As the crowd Jeer Alex rolled on. He let the
ball skip by him throwing four foury and the Timbers
(56:12):
on this near side the left right in front of
branch menton.
Speaker 9 (56:14):
We've seen tonight already three or four guys slipping. It
is almost like they overwatered the field. The ball's skipping
quite a bit as well. Kim Ki, he just barrels
into the back of board. Not a bad place to
give up a foul right near the halfway line. Sounders
will take that.
Speaker 7 (56:27):
Just kim just reminding more where he's at. Two experienced
and athletic central defenders for the Sounders tonight. Yeah, Market
forty five minutes on Wednesday Night continues to be such
a presence in the back line. Jackson Reagan getting closer
(56:47):
to full fitnesses. It comes down to the off that
left hand sign. He drops his shoulder like Ryan Ken does,
comes on his preferred right foot. Timbers have it with
Ayala center shift to play again farst side the right
to Mascara advance from his right backs down the line
ten yards two foot of Mariner back to mos Squerira
tries to drop his shoulder. Who's not gonna fall for
(57:09):
that one? As the ball goes back all the way
back to New Zealand international sermon.
Speaker 28 (57:16):
Kamal Miller came from Miami with Phil Neville.
Speaker 7 (57:21):
Then it comes to Anthony. We've got some timer space
now left hand side, towards the end, ninety goes which
it was left along the sixth, hooked up in the
air by game a freeheaded for a Christian heads it
past Ila, but then picked up by forty sounders comps
on top of that box. Right now they come to Marino.
It's gonna strike from distance, just wide goal kick. Sounders
crowd like that.
Speaker 28 (57:40):
Sounders will take it from twenty five yards.
Speaker 7 (57:43):
It may's know Nelt.
Speaker 6 (57:44):
That's where Anthony we haven't seen him isolated.
Speaker 9 (57:45):
It took twenty minutes almost to get into this match
and isolate on the left hand side. And you can
see what he's done all year is isolate the right
back and get into a crossing position. That's where Portland's
been really successful this year. Ball gets recirculated, Sounders can't
hold on to it and it's a shot from distance.
But you see the two coaching styles phil Nobel on
his feet for the entire part of this first half
(58:07):
and Schmitzer sitting on his bench seems to be cool,
calm and collected. Things are going the way that Schmitzer
would like.
Speaker 7 (58:15):
It's not Schmittz's first rodeo here at Providence Park, of course,
decades of experience. The bull goes in behind now Less
also got a chance free of the back. Four rolls
on the six and then clearvoy seven. Eventually assistant referee's
flag goes up. Felt like it in shi piat or
so offside so that the assistant referee a little time
to put his flag up.
Speaker 28 (58:34):
Eventually did to be free kick full of timbos.
Speaker 9 (58:37):
Again, it's Christian Rodon finding that pocket inside and I
think if he just takes a touch and hits it
finds Albert Rusnak just a little bit slow.
Speaker 6 (58:45):
Albert does it in two, but Christian needs to find
that one a little bit quicker.
Speaker 9 (58:48):
And of course, you know when when you're shaded on
this side of the field as an attacker, the only
reference you have really is the left back to make
sure that you're on side. And if you think that
you are just in advance of the left as a
left back, you're taught to be just in advance of
your center back. So as a striker you're thinking, okay,
the center back must be even with me, and I
can take my chance here, get up the field and
hopefully be on side just a yard off side, and the.
Speaker 7 (59:11):
One and of course center back has then the opportunity
to step if he feels like it. Mr Millich has
held his line. Yardoso signed for Mussovski again mentioned rich
vein of form for Mussovski five goals in the last
six games, which was a level of disappointment not to
start against LAFC and have some time on the field
to find his sixth and sixth which would have been
(59:34):
a record for Mussovski in terms of goals in straight games.
Oprah Fermi, Martins, Montero now Musofski in five out of five,
So not a bad group of players to sit alongside.
You gotta thak Massovski with port morris is going out
the lineup for the second time after picking up that
second muscular injury. The coach that would have been worried,
(59:56):
but Musaski has really stood up and really earned his opportunity.
Speaker 9 (01:00:00):
Well, look, it's been two years now of watching Danny
Mussovski and I don't think anyone would have guessed that
he would get five and five. And it was a
worry when Jordan went out. I think we all tried
to kind of hold our breath to see what Danny
would do. But look he's come out and proved everyone wrong.
And with five and five the group is in the numbers.
Speaker 7 (01:00:19):
Sounders playing around in the back eventually hook it up
and headed clear by Christian role Don. Sounders just need
to get a grip of the ball right now. As
if the Timbers are approbing and they're attacking third of
the field, sound has poke it away with far gas.
Referees give be nothing. It's going to be a throw
in on the far side. We're out appreciating the core
for the referee. Like delay from the man in the
(01:00:41):
middle actually gives it to the Timbers on their right
hand side. Far side. From ass vantage point is must
scare a ball in his hands. He's been in advanced
from that right back spot. He might get the opportunity
for Ken to occupy some of that space. In moscowra
leaves at times we've seen and switch a play a
couple of times good play by Ki Ki. He that
(01:01:01):
to Royan Kent not there Ryan. Then through the legs
of Muscaret goes Vargas. Good play and then earns the
foul well played or tease comes across Vargas using whatever
experience has gotten those young body of his. Now the
switch of play. The referee gets in the way, didn't
even look and the ball was clear to Alex rolled
(01:01:21):
on and Brad Evans, I let you pick that one.
Speaker 9 (01:01:23):
Oh my gosh, the referee, you gotta take a look
over your shoulder. Alex gets free on a quick free
kick from Obed Vargas and everyone has shifted up and
inside for Portland. Alex is off to the races. It
was just a daisy cutter too. He would have had
nothing to do but to take a touch in front
of him and everyone's pushing forward.
Speaker 6 (01:01:40):
Oh man, it's unfortunate for the Sounders.
Speaker 9 (01:01:42):
We saw that one from up top here all day
long and Alex shaking his head like.
Speaker 6 (01:01:46):
What is this referee doing in that spot?
Speaker 25 (01:01:48):
Man?
Speaker 6 (01:01:48):
Not often do you see that one happen.
Speaker 7 (01:01:49):
It's been a question we've asked ourselves last couple of weeks.
Hicks Grushnak top of the box, strikes it right down
the cut of Cray pro chans from twenty five yards.
Gray Peur's come it's right now. Two clean sheets that
last two games for Maxine Cray per former lafc Man
of course, easy say for mesnil.
Speaker 9 (01:02:08):
Nil well done from the sounders build up on the
right hand side and Albert finds himself in that little pocket.
And that's what we know about Rusna, because if he's
not just gonna sit centrally, he'll fade out left and
he'll find the different pockets. And as soon as you
don't think he's in the play, he shows up at
the last minute. And that's the one you want from Albert.
And a shot from distance looked like it may have
taken a little deflection, but good goalkeeping from Proco. That's
(01:02:29):
certainly a yellow card down here, ye, And eventually yellow
card comes down. I think it was maybe from descent.
Even referee didn't look like he was gonna give anything.
I all had a word. Fargas is in a lot
of discomfort and pain.
Speaker 7 (01:02:42):
And that looked the nasty, cynical foul right in front
of Brian Schmitzer. Brian's standing in front of the fourth
official right next to him. Brian couldn't get a better
vantage point of that foul. Referee, Now he's gonna have
to make maybe a decision here, gave the yellow card.
Speaker 9 (01:03:00):
You see Phil Neville and Brian Schwetz are going back
and forth. Phil saying it's his first foul. Schwetz are saying,
all right, relax, but he's going away from goal. He's
gonna make a turn. And if you reach out and
hit someone's ankle like that with force and power and
certainly a yellow card. Yeah, it's a hard voul. The
referee's done a good job of those hard fowls that
have been going on in this game. Albert's foul in
the center back on top here. A couple more in
(01:03:22):
our own defensive third, but that one was just a
bit egregious.
Speaker 7 (01:03:25):
That was like a foul back in my day where
you give a little scrape on the back of the
Achilles Tendon's remind the center forward where you are painful
one for Vargas and he's up now, up on his feet,
just shakes it up because he walks away. Chance for
Rosnick to witness one in Sounders have looked good from
(01:03:46):
set pieces, as you mentioned last couple of weeks haven't
been able to capitalise, but the opportunities have been there.
It is Brian Schwetz stands just a couple of yards
away and his technical area point in front of the ball.
Here Brosnick, now footing the balls, makes a run down
in behind, just holds his line that Paul and Tim
is holding two yards outside the box. Whipped in flicks
(01:04:06):
on and then away by Mora top of his box,
easy headed to make. Ball goes into Vargas down the line,
it goes to Christian good little touch inside to Vargas,
Sorry to Resna because he whips the ball, penetrating pass
one side of the field. Dealer to Ryan Kent now
gets the ball down. He's saying high and wind is Ryan.
(01:04:27):
He said the ball a couple of times in the
switcher play kim Key, he has it, rolls it too
new little flicking side by Furrer back to New drives
inside the box. Who's gonna chant? Tries to cut it
back maybe at the opportunity to shoot, kicks the advertising
hoardings behind in frustration and he was a chance to
open up for new who inside the eighteen and instead
(01:04:47):
of shooting, he squared it Paul had come away with it.
Speaker 9 (01:04:50):
Ah, that's the best we've seen from heyesus in an
attacking sense in this game, and that's just savviness. Ball
gets played just behind him and all he does is
flick it with the inside of his foot put backwards
in the new whose path takes a great touch forward
to break two defenders. And now when you have to
smash across the box as hard as you can, the
elects to go back on a forty five, where for
all the Portland Timbers are just trailing back.
Speaker 6 (01:05:11):
Maul dea flex and gets sent back to Kripo.
Speaker 9 (01:05:14):
Man Masovski was sitting at the near post, waiting and
willing that that one was gonna come across just for
a tap in. But again the Sounder is knocking on
the door here in the last five minutes of this one.
Speaker 7 (01:05:23):
Sounders FC socket is presented by Provident, Swedish official healthcare
partner of Sounders FCS. The cost of switches it towards
the end line left hand side. Over the end line,
it goes I saw it, Griffrey didn't. Top of the box.
Anthony rolls it square to Ortiz, rolls it out far
side to Moskaira clips it inside to moreno inside the box.
Challenged by kim Ki. He flicks inside and then away
(01:05:46):
bike Alex rolled on. Y'all are over the top of Brusnak,
headed clear by Yeima. Sound is standing strong. Pauland Timbers
come again down line. It goes flick over the top
byke the cost it towards Anthony and there's the defensive
Prais and it comes across, takes it off the foot
of Anthony, heads it out of bounds. Throw in ten
yards from this corner flag. This's near side in the
(01:06:08):
hands of forty.
Speaker 9 (01:06:09):
What a great twenty five minutes of this game. It's
been really back and forth and some high quality soccer tonight.
You just wonder where was that against LAFC. The composure
in tight spaces tonight, both teams battling for every single ball.
The Portland Timbers with better play in the first fifteen
to eighteen minutes of this one. When the sound as
starting to get some possession opportunities on goal, Yeah, a couple.
Speaker 7 (01:06:33):
Of shots for each club.
Speaker 28 (01:06:35):
Forty seven percent possession for Sounders.
Speaker 7 (01:06:37):
Now it starts to tick forward. Kim Kihe's gonna have
it on the corner of the six yard box as
the sounder is gonna make way. Referee just having a
quick word with sid who that is is it to
Costa just outside the eighteen yard referee just picking apart
(01:06:57):
inches here. Now the ball goes square to step and
Frye Brad Evans and I have thoughts and comments. We'll
lead it to ourselves about building out the back inside
the six yard box at times, but sounds playing long
picked up by the Timbers though they come again.
Speaker 28 (01:07:12):
Good step by Vargas on the ball well off the
toe of Anthony.
Speaker 7 (01:07:15):
Now goes Frera into Groznak quickly outside to Vargas down
this right hand side, this near side the Sounders right
as they attack the goal to our right as Ferrara
plays it back to Gamark. Sounders now just managing a
little temper. Keep the ball inside there, attacking half for
the field.
Speaker 28 (01:07:32):
The Timbers chase a little bit as rolled on.
Speaker 7 (01:07:35):
Alex roder On down the right inside is available, goes
to Ferrera right in front of the sounder's bench, go
square inside to Alex Rolt. Christian roald On whitson across
to Kent. Now he's got some more space down his
left hand side, overlapping run and you'll step over Trisco
through the legs of moscore and didn't work for him
as it worked so far for Ryan Kent. These first
twenty seven twenty eight minutes or so, neil Nel Sounders, Timbers,
(01:07:56):
Providence Park, downtown Pautland Sports Radio ninety three point three
KGIFM wherever you're joining us, hopefully getting a sense of
the passion. Noise inside Providence Park starts early here and
it continues forward.
Speaker 9 (01:08:12):
Can see what the sounders are trying to do. They're
really just building out of this red hand side, and
then Ryan Kent is just sitting on that far side.
And anytime Christian gets the ball, that's been three or
four times that the switch has been on. When you
play with four in the back, at some point you
got to get new who higher up the field so
that you can create that overlapping run and overload that side.
Otherwise you're gonna have two defenders on Ryan Kent every
(01:08:35):
single time, and he's not gonna have enough time in
space to really create much of anything.
Speaker 6 (01:08:39):
But that's now four or five times Kent's got the
ball and lost it.
Speaker 9 (01:08:42):
I think the next one it's about keeping possession and
see if you can beat them with a few passes
instead of on the dribble.
Speaker 7 (01:08:49):
Well, this corpyretted audio casts of Major League Soccer may
not be retransmitted, reproduced, or rebroadcast with that express written
consent of Major League Soccer. Well gets headed forward by
Alex Roldon Cushion, head back by Kamal Miller to his
goalkeeper Craper, and then the timbers come again. No chance
to take a breath in this game. As as soon
as the ball goes out the out of bounds or
back to the goalkeeper and it comes again, just as
(01:09:11):
you expect from a big derby game like this ball
goes in good step again by kim Key. He's done
it number of times already in this game. Just uses
that experience to play on the shoulder of Moura. There's
Mora bundles into New Knew who felt it got caught
in a little bit of bother there for a minute.
The referee just confuses everybody is Mura tries to take
(01:09:32):
it off the toe of New who then goes and
pulls him up respect there between the two players.
Speaker 9 (01:09:40):
That step from kim Ky, he is all our Chad
Marshall and you go back a couple of years and
there's really no player that can step in front of
an attacker when they have the ball, end up with it.
Speaker 7 (01:09:52):
Ball over the top. Here comes Masofski. He's got the
run on Miller Bull holds up top of the box.
Now is right and I can support Ken too?
Speaker 6 (01:09:59):
Is right?
Speaker 7 (01:10:01):
That is Rossnack.
Speaker 29 (01:10:05):
He guys it into the bottom corner and celebrates in
front of the traveling sound of support.
Speaker 30 (01:10:13):
Providence Park is silent. The Sounders fans celebrate one nail. Sounders,
you know where it starts.
Speaker 9 (01:10:22):
It starts with that challenge from kim Key there stepping
in gets played out to new who it's a foul.
The Sounders play quick build out of the back and
again it's Christian Roldan in the right place at the
right time, and you're taught. If you're square with Alex
Rodan playing you the ball or a center back. The
first thought is how can I get this ball forward.
It's a perfectly time to run from Danny Mussovski and
(01:10:42):
he does so well. He gets caught a little bit
off balance, but then it's able to lay it off
to Albert Rusnak and this is what Rusnak does better
than any player in the league. Most players are gonna
take that shot far post and try to curl it in.
And every time he closes his hips goes near post
and propose just caught thinking he's gonna go far post
and can't get back in time, like you said, gets
the celebrate in front of the fans.
Speaker 6 (01:11:04):
Fantastic goal for the Sounders.
Speaker 7 (01:11:06):
Sixth goal for Albert Rosnak and his campaign this year,
ten goals last year, and he is one goal away
from twenty five goals twenty five assists for multiple clubs,
and he would be the only the second player in
MLS history to accomplish that feat. The other player was
former great Steve Rolston with Tampa New England. So one
(01:11:28):
goal away from hitting number two and it's Russak. When
the Ryan Schmizer needs is big time players to turn
up in big time moments. Is that man of Rosna
back in the lineup tonight after taking a break, the
ball goes over the top, It comes ken him behind,
ball holds up top of the box. Is Ryan Kent
(01:11:50):
plays it out to Mussos. He got a chance to shoot,
saved by Craig po it's gonna be a corner kick
sound as they're feeling it right now.
Speaker 28 (01:11:59):
It's us on the ropes. Then the sounds find a
second corner.
Speaker 9 (01:12:03):
Cat oh dunk from the sounders and again it's that
outlet ball. We haven't seen that since Jordan's been gone.
Speaker 6 (01:12:08):
Right.
Speaker 9 (01:12:08):
Ryan Kent enters this lineup and all of a sudden,
the long ball becomes a dangerous asset to this group.
It's all over the top. It's a well timed run
for Ryan Kenny. Look to almost be off sides with
the referee had a good glance. Usaski takes a touch
and whips that one with his left foot, and you're
taught at that angle. You used to have to hit
it as hard as you can and if it beats
the keeper, great, If not, get a corner.
Speaker 7 (01:12:29):
Bull wits in by Russnik Heady Clevit Mora picked up
top of the box by Ryan Kent, plays at square center.
The part to gets forty yards from Gold just right
of center. Goes back to Alex rolled on as the
timber starts to push and press. As the ball gets
flipped in between lines to Ryan Kent think gets caught
in the middle of the park Yemo wins the ball,
(01:12:51):
Well doesn't foul finds the foot of Russ Like overlapping
running now by Ken Russak finds him inside the box.
Seven comes across just left in a little short rosnack,
and now the Timbers come with moscare striding forward. Chance
to win it he does just Christian clicks brilliant play
by Rolldn finds Ferrera right of center. Sound has slow
(01:13:13):
the game down a little bit. Ken just gets caught again.
It's a couple of times now in the middle of
the partners. Ryan Kent gets caught with it, Paul and Timmers.
Is not the team you want to give them all
away in transition and they could be deadly as they've
shown over the years. The Sounders make their way back.
All goes from center to the far side, the right
to the costa down the line towards the end. Niney
(01:13:34):
goes in their right hand side. Flick by Ayala read
well by new Who. Nobody in front really apart from Masoski,
So I mean, who's gonna take that opportune to stride forward?
Here he goes, go down there he goes, wins the foul,
very very good bye new Who and the yellow card
for cmal Miller. Brilliant play by new Who.
Speaker 6 (01:13:53):
Bred Evan's amazing from.
Speaker 9 (01:13:54):
New Who, and that's the probably two of the best
attacking sequences we've seen out of New Who quite some time.
And that's just Patients standing because he's on the run.
He could put his foot on the ball, but he
alects to go and it's really two v four at
that point, and his pac in power is deceptive at
the end of the day, and he's a big body,
so it's gonna take a lot to just step in
front of him and knock him off the ball. But
really good concentration there from new Hoop, and he knows
(01:14:16):
he's not gonna end up with the ball, so what
does he do? Draw the foul to yellow card for
center back. Now the Sounders with another opportunity. But I
like what the Sounders did and transition there right. Yes,
they lost the ball, but everyone sprinted back. They had
six guys. Just get behind the ball as best you
can and then we'll organize from there to stop that
Timbers attack.
Speaker 7 (01:14:36):
Sounders have it thirty fifth minute here Providence Puck, Downtown Portland.
Sound is Timbers sound as lead won't goal to nil
f a well taken goal by Rusnak. Both flicked up
now in the chest of Vagas just needs to be careful,
looks to take a legout.
Speaker 25 (01:14:52):
He does.
Speaker 7 (01:14:53):
He's patient. Timbers due collected with Fouri on that left hand.
So I just outside his eighteen yard books could switch
and play with his weaker white front Morin whost across
the halfway line middle of the pot to the costs
of them plays it out from sens to falside the
right of much scare. I've been advanced and that white
backs about a number of times inside the books is.
Speaker 6 (01:15:11):
The costa that is Moreno, just talk with the six
yard books.
Speaker 31 (01:15:17):
We're gonna see if it say offside kim Ky, he's
asking the cold. We'll see if the AI takes a
look for right now the Timbers celebrate.
Speaker 6 (01:15:28):
Timbers won sound as one who's definitely not offside.
Speaker 9 (01:15:31):
He find himself in a good pocket and the Sounders
not in the right position there. I hope we can
see the replay on this one. But new who out
of the picture has to press and then it's just
a little slip ball on behind. So kim Ky he
has to vacate his place and that's the one where
you gotta make yourself as big as possible and block
that ball, and I think it gets slipped through his
(01:15:52):
legs and then it's about as easy of a finish
you're ever gonna get right in front of the goal.
Speaker 6 (01:15:58):
Timbers tie at one one.
Speaker 7 (01:16:00):
Think green smoke mellowing out on the stand to our
left as of flax fly.
Speaker 28 (01:16:07):
The crowd in full voice. Now the Sounders just need
to take a breath.
Speaker 7 (01:16:11):
So we get inside the final ten minutes of this
first half and the Timbers and a well Wood goal
down their right hand side tied it up here.
Speaker 9 (01:16:23):
Watching the replay, I think Christian Roldan'd like to have
his spacing back as soon as the center back vacates.
You have to be on top of the six because
you know that that ball, once it's on the headline
is gonna get played back across and he just gets
caught a little bit out of position there.
Speaker 7 (01:16:39):
Marino's fourth goal of his twenty twenty five campaign. Sounders
now on the attack again down the right hand side,
and the hands of Ferrera throwing twenty yards or so
from the corner flack down to our right hand side.
He's gonna hand it over to Alex. Disappointing goal to
(01:16:59):
give for the Sounders. We know that five minutes after
your score is the most vital. Let's keep it nice
and tight. It's opened up somewhat for the Timbers. It's
been a scare, has been a real thorn down.
Speaker 28 (01:17:13):
That right hand side has been advanced a number of
different times.
Speaker 7 (01:17:16):
As for just flicks it up down the right back
to for By rolled on, comes inside to Christian rolled
On twenty five yards from goal square. Quickly too new
who plays it out to Ken Ken now do something
with the ball, clips it down the line towards Vargas,
makes the run, comes back to Kent left corner of
the box, flicks drawards the backstick and then headed away
by Fury over the end line. It's gonna be a
(01:17:39):
corner kick Sounders here in the thirty eighth minute. One
to one.
Speaker 9 (01:17:42):
Well, I don't think the Sounders have any reason to
panic after that goal. I've had the better of the
play the last fifteen minutes of this match, and so that's.
Speaker 6 (01:17:49):
Well done by the Sounders. It's good build up.
Speaker 9 (01:17:51):
Hey, SU's on this right hand side, a lot of
patients and the switching ball has been on all day long,
and now Ryan Kent finds some space cuts inside it
just strikes the face aid that ball far post and
it was the last ditch defensive effort from the Timbers.
Speaker 6 (01:18:05):
Sounders end up with a corner kick.
Speaker 7 (01:18:07):
Well Sounds have a top of the box flicked him
by Vargas. This has got to spin into the arms
of Crave Prow. I'm not quite sure what that was.
Speaker 6 (01:18:14):
As Crave Pro.
Speaker 7 (01:18:15):
Launches it long quickly. Alex does a really good job,
reads the game well, comes back to Christian rolldown that
now Yamar good play brings it down Well in the
middle of the part, rolls it out his left foot
to the far side to Ryan Ken closed down now
by your teas coming across missus central midfield spotters. Ken
comes across the field and manages to keep it as
(01:18:36):
Timber Joey.
Speaker 6 (01:18:39):
Makes his.
Speaker 7 (01:18:40):
Slice of wood on the far side to our left.
Celebration of that goal, the ball goes down the line.
Now it's Farrera strikes across six, cleared by Miller, bounces
and then kept him play by Anthony and then picked
up by Alex. Rolled on his near side inside the
Atna goes look flicks what power, Gas almost gets it
(01:19:02):
pres a wriggle free played by Foy misplayed somewhat. His
goal's gone, Marino just flicks it out to Mosquera, who
continues to be an option on that right hand side,
and Ayala ULLs it out to this near side to
Fury and then to Anthony. Seven assists on his year,
(01:19:22):
five successful, five games going into this midweek games, so
he's on a rich vein of form in terms of
providing for his team. Of course, you got the likes
of Jonathan Rodriguez on the bench for the Timbers. That
big man, as we mentioned, A Vander is in Cincinnati
now after going for twelve million just before the season started.
(01:19:45):
Sounders are getting back to full Fitner Dud Morris and
full of weeks away Jackson, Reagan a hand full of
weeks away. Ariola of course, has missed acl injury or
put him out before the best part of the entire season,
we believe. See it's working hard on that recovery. Sounders
looking strong in response to that goal there in the
(01:20:10):
final five minutes. Don't leave us, whole crew, We'll be
back to break everything down. Chance frying, Pete feuing Jackson
felts lots to talk about. As always in this game,
thing's been mentioned a number of times. It's all over
media tonight is the ball goes in toward down a
Massosi top of the box, turns good step and toe
(01:20:30):
by Sermon, but Sound has retained possession with Christian. How
does brother Alex time and space comes back. Sound is
just keeping a bit of possession now in the attacking
third of the field, trying to look for the second goal.
The ball goes in square two for rare. It tries
to flicking in ball down to Masoski and strikes in
(01:20:50):
a block well by Sermon, now to Grosnak, tries to
go around for a good defending over the end line
corner cake one.
Speaker 9 (01:20:56):
What's well done by the Sounders and what catches you
by prize always with Portland is you've got kim kihe
in the back, Knew who's pushed all the way out
wide left, and you've got Jamar and both Christian and
o Better in advance of the field. And then you
see the front three for the Timbers just waiting waiting
for the Sounders to make a bad pass. But they've
been so good tonight with their passing, haven't given up
(01:21:17):
too many opportunities on the counter attack, and the Sounders
do well to win sustained corners. That's the most corners
in the league this year, I think by any team,
but it's converting those corners into high quality chances and
really putting something.
Speaker 6 (01:21:28):
In the back of the net.
Speaker 7 (01:21:29):
Sounders go short this time to resneck right side corner
with the box, tries to go inside to rolled on
clear dup inexplicably clear and then eventually hook clear by
Mora a couple of dutchy clearances for both teams when
he was a moreno and eventually hooked clear.
Speaker 9 (01:21:46):
I think the other night in LAFC it was the
Sounders who were just giving away passes to LAFC and
allowing them to keep them under pressure, and tonight it's
been Portland for the most part of giving away passes
that are uncharacteristic and not allowing them to really get
out of pressure.
Speaker 6 (01:22:00):
In the past twenty minutes, the Sounders have really up
the tempo well.
Speaker 7 (01:22:04):
This game is very much like all games in regular
season MLS fifteen to fifteen to ten between these clubs.
Sounders having a formidable lead across one hundred and twenty
two games coming into tonight's game goes all the way
back to nineteen seventy five, fifty years of this great game.
Timbers celebrate their fiftieth anniversary this year. All goes inside
(01:22:26):
to roll On, rolls into Masovski tries to find it
down the line. It's gonna be chased down by forever
it rolls over the end line. We'll get into the
final minutes here of this first half. Providence Park Sports
Radio ninety three point three kJ FM.
Speaker 9 (01:22:40):
Timbers won, Sounders one. Brad Evans, Well, it's at just
about everything in this one. This one's flown by for us.
Both teams playing well tonight, but I think the Sounders,
the Christian and Obed are going to be the difference
maker in this game. Their ability to get out of
tight spaces consistently throughout the season, but tonight especially, that's
really what has allowed the Sounders to be a bit
more free flowing as they move forward.
Speaker 7 (01:23:01):
Not nudged about by Yama, but refugets the advances. Ball
bounces over the top now to Anthony left corner of
the box, goes down by Alex and then doubled up
by his brother Christian about to help his brothers and
cut by DaCosta inside the eighteen left hand side, right
in front of us, ten yards or so from the end.
Line comes back to Ayala with his left foot. It's
going to clip it in towards the back sick. No
problem there and ye mar plays it overtook safety first
(01:23:27):
over the airline. Sounders now from nothing, have to defend
the corner kick Timbers.
Speaker 6 (01:23:32):
One sound has won this scort.
Speaker 7 (01:23:33):
He is presented by Toyota as moreno goalscorer for the
Timbers is going to run over to the far side.
They're right the Sounders.
Speaker 28 (01:23:43):
We'll have a chance to attack that main stand to
our left in the second half.
Speaker 7 (01:23:48):
See end. The Timbers typically light to attack in the
second half, Sounders turn them around. Here's Marina one arm
up in the air. Sounders have to defend this corner
kick just a couple of minutes left of this first half.
Gonna be whipped in towards the backstick headed down top
of the box. Kent's gonna run Roussneck's gonna clear his lines.
It's gonna be hooked down that fart side. It's gonna
(01:24:09):
bounce through as Kent's gonna give to Costa nudge. It
comes off to Costa and it's gonna be a Sounders
throw well earned by Ryan Kent. But May is AA
n HPI Heritage Month support AA n HPI owned small
businesses joined the month of May for a chance to
win Sounders FC prizes. Visit intentionalist dot com to find
a business near you. Well played by Ryan Kent.
Speaker 9 (01:24:34):
Look and at the end of the day, we said it,
you have to battle for every single fifty to fifty
in these games, and sometimes it might just be a
throw in, but it's winning that battle and giving yourself
that territorial advantage on the field. And Ryan Kent does
everything right there to just get a nudge on Ta Coolson.
You always want to make attackers defend at the end
of the day because they're almost always gonna make mistakes,
(01:24:55):
and he does well.
Speaker 7 (01:24:57):
Top of the box is Ferrara picked up by a
head of from brusnak now Tali Roldan's gonna strike it
across almost a flex whisker away from the top corner
for Kamal Miller hits the post on the bat and
that holds up the net. It's gonna be a corner
caick Sounders. As we get past the forty five minute mark,
four minutes of.
Speaker 28 (01:25:14):
At a time, so plenty of time for the Sounders
to find something here corner kick down to our rights,
it's gonna be a rosno.
Speaker 7 (01:25:23):
So Ryan Kent comes across and the Rose talked about
giving the players the opportunity just to make something out
of nothing. Something's there, go ahead and play it, whereas
nexts just gonna put his arm up in the air.
Referee's gonna hold things up.
Speaker 9 (01:25:35):
Well, you see, Portland Timbers have all ten players the
inside the box save for two there just outside on
the box. If the Sounders were to play short, it's
gonna be a difficult matchup with five runners against eight
inside there.
Speaker 7 (01:25:48):
It's gonna be a Rosna Outswinger clips it in towards Yamar,
heads it up and then easily collected by pray pro
crapers looking for that quick distribution. Ak Larisse this time
is not as well, hit by crazy Pot just bounces
up in the middle of the park, picked up I
knew who you can go back, Yes he does, back
to Alex Roldan. Rawland Timber is just gonna hold up
(01:26:08):
things but wherever you're headed, Discount Tire wants to get
you there safely. Shot for tires with treadwell your personal
tire guy at Discount Tire dot Com. Lots of action
this first half. Great game for the neutral, Great game
foot sounders and timber supporters alike. Whether you're in the
stands here, you're at home watching, if you're driving, or
(01:26:29):
at home listening. Hopefully you're hearing through our headset and
the microphone. Is exactly what this game is all about. Noise, passion, action.
If you tick towards the final couple of minutes here
in the first half, Brin Schwetzer hands in pockets, just
patrolling a technical area picked up well by Ferrera. Now
(01:26:51):
Mausofski rolls it inside center the park too Grossnack's go
to stride forward, rolls it out farstside the left to
Ryan Kent left hand side, goes back top of the boxes.
Christian roll done. Of course, he scored from the similar
position as that just a year or so ago, whipped
in now by Alex Roldan, headed up off the back.
Yes it is. It's a chance for the Sounders from
(01:27:11):
a corner. Caick referee just pointing to his back. It
was Musoski went up, headed it down off Sermon's back
over the endline. Corner kick.
Speaker 6 (01:27:18):
Yeah, well done, that's Jesus frera.
Speaker 9 (01:27:20):
We talked about the back press a lot when Lao
Chew was in the squad, and good things happened when
Lao che was defending on that side.
Speaker 6 (01:27:26):
And then you get a little bit cocky and you
think you can just attack.
Speaker 9 (01:27:29):
But Jesus does really well there to provide pressure and
that's that made that attack for the Sounders.
Speaker 7 (01:27:36):
Here it comes to sound It's left hand side now
in swing of the right foot, whipped in well. Referee
says push free kick. Sounder's retreat get here in the
sort of a minute left of the four minutes of
added time.
Speaker 28 (01:27:52):
Full house today. As the sun daffles.
Speaker 7 (01:27:55):
Across the field, the Athletic club sits behind act as
well added bonus. If you're a member there, you get
to either be on an electrical machine or a bike
and watch the game, or you can sit outside, you
have a drink, enjoy the game alongside these passionate fans
(01:28:18):
here and the Sounders have traveled well as they always
do here, bouncing noise inside and underneath the rafters of
this old stadium. It's one hundred years. It's been an
anchor and a staple in the middle of downtown Portland.
As Kamal Miller picks it up, clips it to the
far side the right to Moscow, we're gonna have a
(01:28:39):
chance for another attack here by the timber. Sounds need
to hold strong as to get him inside. The final
thirty seconds of the forty nine out to this left
hand side, closed down by Alex Rodar and Anthony with
the ball down the left to for it towards the
endlight whips it takes an inflection headed away by now
and Ryan Ken just can hold it, clip it down
(01:28:59):
the line, strike sit down the middle of the park,
not the place you want to play, right to serve
and heads it down. Referee looks at his watch. We're
past the fort you nine and there's the whistle. It's
been accelerating first half to a close. It was the
Sounders who opened it up on the half hour, with
Albert Rosnak perfectly guided into the boxom corner from all
(01:29:20):
of twenty two yards, and then it was moreno inside
the six in the thirty sixth minute to toy things up.
Bright Evans your final fours.
Speaker 9 (01:29:27):
Yeah, I mean from a neutral standpoint, I think it's
been a fantastic game to watch. It had a bit
of everything. Each team had good bounce of possession and
obviously you get the two goals. But for the Sounders,
I think they'll be walking into let's hey, we got this.
I don't think they've been feeling too much pressure in
this one or too much danger. Now you just have
to be clinical on the other side, and you look
to this Sounders bench. You've got some firepower. You've got
Georgie Rothrock Andmparedo de la Vega to come into this one,
(01:29:51):
and Osase write a chance to come on as a
sub and do what he did a couple of games
ago and provide himself with a couple of opportunities.
Speaker 6 (01:29:57):
So I think Schmitz will be happy with the way
the first.
Speaker 9 (01:29:59):
Half, when Stephan Fi will want that goalback, I think
in his organizational players, but you know, affair first half,
I think for both squads, Yeah.
Speaker 7 (01:30:06):
We'll take a short break, Jackson Feltz chance for i
pe Feuing. We'll be back to break it all down
at halftime. Here at Providence Park, it's the Timbers one
sound as one.

Five minutes in the books from Providence Park, Your Sounders

minutes later from Santiago Moreno have this match at one

is presented by the Western Washington Toyota Dealers. Welcome into
the halftime show, Jacksonvielle's Pete viewing Chance Fry back here
(01:32:58):
in Seattle to get you the thoughts there on the
first forty five minutes.
Speaker 8 (01:33:02):
Pete, I'll start with you, what did you see in
the one to one game right now?
Speaker 4 (01:33:05):
I was a really entertaining first half. I was really
pleased with way Seattle played two great goals. You got
to give Portland credit for their goal. The ball from
al Christian roll Don into Mussovski great run, kind of
a bending ball that he could run onto. He gets
the defenders catch up to him, and then Albert first class.
You know, he uses the defender to go through his
(01:33:26):
legs so the keeper can't really get a good look
at it. We've had some good chances. We said it
the pregame that you got to be ready from the beginning.
In the fourth minute, we had a good chance to
go up one nothing great cross from Alex Roldan and
it's into Massovski. So it's been a really entertaining game.
I'd like more from the wings. Ferreira on the right
(01:33:46):
is not getting as many chances, but Alex Roldon is,
so maybe for opening things up for him, I'd like
to see can't go a little more. But it's been
a really good game. I said, these can be like championships.
It's both teams have done really well.
Speaker 5 (01:33:58):
Yeah, no, they've each team has had their run of
the play and it's gone back and forth like we
said it was going to go, like we thought it
was going to.
Speaker 4 (01:34:06):
Massovski has done.
Speaker 5 (01:34:07):
A great job, as he said, of holding the ball up.
He kind of fell over the ball a little bit
he was getting held by the defender, but he did
really great to get the.
Speaker 4 (01:34:15):
Ball over to Albert.
Speaker 5 (01:34:16):
Albert does a great job of striking low into the
near post. But they've done a good job knocking the
ball around. I would like to see them play just
a little bit quicker. And also when we're building up
in the last third, we're a little bit stagnant, a
little bit sort of not moving in the box and
it'd be great. We're getting around the outside, but then
(01:34:37):
start our runs a little bit further away. Diagonal runs
through the near post and far post. I'd like to
see that a little bit more.
Speaker 3 (01:34:43):
Absolutely so, Mick, A little ultra is ninety five calories

Speaker 6 (01:34:49):

Welcome back to the halftime Show, Seattle Sounders, Portland Timbers
even at one point one after forty five minutes. This
copyrighted audio cast of Major League Soccer may not be retransmitted, reproduced,
or rebroadcast without the express written consent of Major League Soccer.
Let's take a look at what Brian Schminzer has available
on his bench tonight. The backup goalkeeper tonight is Andrew Thomas.
He also has defenders Jonathan Bell, Kalani Coza, Rienzi Reed,
(01:38:33):
Baker Whiting. And then we get into some players who
can help the attack. Danny Leva a midfielder, Paul Rothrock,
Pedro de la Vega, Georgie Manongu, and Osase de Rosario.
So some options there. Pedro de Lavega, of course, played
on Wednesday. I came off the came off the field
just for for Rest purposes. We'll see how much he
(01:38:53):
can give in the second half. But Pete fewing chance,
Fried Pete, I'll start with you which of those players
off the bench and I'm gonna highlight Dale Vega because
I think he's probably going to be the number one
name on all of our lists can help the team
off the bench. And what are your keys to the
Sounders getting a goal and getting a win down in Portland.
Speaker 4 (01:39:10):
Well, to answer your question, I like Georgie or Rothrock.
Rothrock has a grit, that is he wants to be
in this game. I'm sure that you know he played
a ton in the last two and so I'm sure
he wants to play in this one. So I like Rothrock.
I like the I would say for Ferrera or Georgie
for Ferrera. Whatever coach feels, I agree with Brad Evans
(01:39:30):
that's it's a fair result right one one. But in
that locker room right now, I bet both teams are
like going, let's get back out there and go because
both teams have a lot of confidence and this one
can't switch off. You've got to be ready from the
very beginning. We saw that in the first four minutes,
and then you've got it's a little bit of quality
has to happen as well.
Speaker 5 (01:39:48):
Yeah, it doesn't seem like there's going to be a
lot of goals in the second half, so like you said,
there has to be some quality. Somebody's going to step
up for that special moment. But I agree with you
on Georgie. I think that he could come in and
really impact the game.
Speaker 4 (01:40:00):
He's so young and naives that he has no idea
that you know, the significance of the game right, and
he'll make it NF.
Speaker 5 (01:40:06):
He's not coming in yet though, But Kent and Frera
just getting at people, getting the ball wide and really
running at people. We haven't seen that yet.
Speaker 8 (01:40:14):
Yeah, all right, it's a one one game.

Welcome back Sounders fans to Providence Park in downtown Portland,
where this Timbers Sounders rivalry game. One to one of
the half players are back out in the field Sounders
and the anniversary kit, green shirts, blue shorts, white socks.
They're attacking the goal to our left. The second half
(01:44:00):
the main cop end full of people and scarves and
flags and Timber Joey right there and pauland Timbers and
their dark green kit attacking the goal to our right.
A couple of changes for Portland and we'll confirm that
with Pardus and zuper Rich and we'll get the lineups
(01:44:21):
in just a second. We'll get bred Evans's thoughts come
out in the second half. What Brian Schweitzer might have
said with Miss Michelle Ludko on the sidelines today they
had a good chat with Brian. Could be out of
the half. So we'll rely on an intuition and experience
and what Brian might have said to his team has
been in many a game like this is where's that
(01:44:41):
goalscorer gets us going? Was Rosneka got the team going
in the thirtieth minute with a well guided shot in
the bottom corner. And there's Marino for pauland and tyed
things up just a couple of moments later. But a
action packed first half as you an expect between these
two clubs. It's going to be Paula Timbers down their
left hand side early with Anthony, we have a rich
(01:45:04):
vene for assists, the ball bounces in, collects an easily
boy Stephen Fryan is salmon full of salmon outfit tonight. So, Brad,
you've been in many a Lockerui Brown Schvezro, especially in
games here at partmence parts.
Speaker 9 (01:45:17):
He said to a team, Yeah, I think he's saying, guys,
we do much of the same and we're gonna we're
gonna win this game. Keep finding Christian in that pocket.
And I think when you're playing against this Portland team
in this second half, one of you has to sit
the entire time to provide because if you look on
the field right now, that's basically a front four for
Portland and on the offensive side us keep switching the
point of attack, it's gonna be key tonight for the Sounders.
(01:45:39):
But I honestly think that phild neb was probably saying
the same thing, guys, we need someone to stay home
and put a man on Christian because it's had so
much freedom in this game to switch the point of attack.
And for the Timbers, much like the Sounders switch the
point of attack, that keep getting caught on one side
trying to take these one on ones and it's just
not panning out for the Timbers just yet. They do
(01:46:00):
make a couple of subs in a center back in
defensive midfielder. We'll see if that changes the game as
they push forward.
Speaker 7 (01:46:06):
Here's Ryan Kent down the left hand side to Knew,
who's been a real action pack first half. A new
down that left hand side, a couple of chances to
stride forward, did that well and he comes Gold Scorch
to Rosneck to Ryan Kent left hand side. It's a
little slip. Managed to maintain possession down to our guest.
Can't quite slip by mart Scarra on the right hand side.
(01:46:27):
Towards the end line, Lot Crowft turned out of pressure.
Good play by Vargas holders position. It's going to be
a throwing for the Timbers, so let's get you the
lineup coming out in the second half for Brian Schmitzer
and his Sounders men. No changes for Brian Stepan, Ryan
gold Back four rolled on ye, Mark Kinkih and Knew
who obed alongside Christian. Middle of the park is Haesus Ferrera,
(01:46:49):
Albert Rosneck, Grian Kent and then Danny Mussovski up front.
Saski gets clapped into a couple of times. It's happened
early foul by super Rich the hard nos number thirteen,
so Let's get you. As Misowski slowly gets back to
his feet, Let's get you. The line up for Portland,
Maxine Crapo in goal, the back fourth, Moscara, Sermon, Kamala,
(01:47:12):
Miller goes off, Zuperrich goes on, fory To in the
midfield or Tease makes way for Paridas alongside Ayala and
attacking three at Marinos scored that goal in the first half.
Speaker 28 (01:47:24):
Da Costa, Anthony and then Felipe Mora up front.
Speaker 7 (01:47:29):
It's gonna be Rosnock on this set piece, dead center,
forty yards or so from Gold goes short to Ferrara.
He's going to clip it in with his right foot
towards Yama, heading clear and then hooked clear by the Costa,
brought down by nude.
Speaker 28 (01:47:42):
Cost is going to continue to go the new DP player.
Speaker 7 (01:47:47):
Portuguese. The ball gets launched long cushion, headed by Christian
to his brother Alex. The little hook inside and then
a foul easily called by the referee just handful of
steps away.
Speaker 28 (01:47:59):
Staying right it, Christian turns out a pressure.
Speaker 7 (01:48:01):
Well wins the free kick just inside. They're attacking half
and the Sounders gets us going quickly.
Speaker 9 (01:48:07):
I'm not sure how any defender in that situation can
argue with that one. But Christian once again does so
well to get out of pressure.
Speaker 6 (01:48:14):
And it's not just that one.
Speaker 9 (01:48:15):
It's the first one that Stephan Bryh has will play
long and then it's a fifty to fifty shoulder to
shoulder and Christian's low center at gravity, you really can't
knock them off the ball. It's much like Obed on
the field. Both of their ability to get out of
tight spaces is really unmatched.
Speaker 7 (01:48:32):
They'll get shifted across and get a bounce through over
this end line in early minutes here in Providence Park,
downtown Portland. Sports Radio ninety three point three KGRFM. The
biggest rivalry, the biggest derby in MLS Sounders Timbers one
hundred and twenty third meeting between these great clubs fifty
years and two weeks ago was the first game here
(01:48:54):
at Providence Park between the Sounders and Timbers. One they'll
win for the sound of his back. Then maybe looking
for a to replicate that scoreline, but Moreno spoiled it
all gets classing in two is a challenge by knew
who into the back of goalsco Moreno yellow card.
Speaker 28 (01:49:18):
A little bit harsh, potentially right through the back of
Marina I went through the back.
Speaker 6 (01:49:22):
But also his elbows a little bit high.
Speaker 9 (01:49:24):
If he keeps his elbow down and just puts it
between him and Moreno's body and he'll come over and
give him a handshake.
Speaker 6 (01:49:29):
Wasn't anything malicious. Little pat on the back and they're
good to go.
Speaker 9 (01:49:34):
But I mean these there's one memory I have from
playing down here and then having an assist down here
on this end, right footed on the right hand side
across the Opra Femi Martins, and there's nothing like celebrating
in front of those fans right there and giving them
a taste.
Speaker 7 (01:49:49):
I remember when we played here, we used to warm
up on that side, which seemed crazy to me because
we was just to point a couple of people who
would give us hell and then.
Speaker 28 (01:49:56):
Just aimed the ball at them as had as we
could on a shoot his shooting prats.
Speaker 7 (01:49:59):
Yeah, we'll bother about scrowing, We'll bother about striking a
timbers found in the face. And there was Thursday Thursday
often here as well, so we used to launch balls
into that bar down on pitch side. But they come
the timbers middle of the park in front of the
eighteen yard box. Shift by Moreno exkews his pass to
the far side left Anthony. He's able to pick it up,
(01:50:20):
drops his shoulder, comes inside his preferred right foot. Good
step by Yeamark clatters off Rusnak picked up by the
Timber Sounders holding the top of their box, comes out
listen near side to Masquerra, whips it in, deflected, challenged
by Kinky wins the ball well fouled by Ryan Kent.
Just flicking around the corner by Ayala, top of his
eighteen yard box struts away. Does Ryan Kenny just has
(01:50:43):
the aura presence? Does Ryan Kent?
Speaker 6 (01:50:47):
He has the aura, but he's yet to find his
feet in this game. And you know, for an outside.
Speaker 9 (01:50:51):
Winger, it's really about the first three or four times
that you get the ball. Can you beat your defender?
That gives you confidence moving forward. But you saw the
ball get stuck underneath his feet in the first five
or six attempts. Right, He's yet to really take on
Muscia and beat him for pace. So if it's not
gonna come from the dribble, it's got to come from
savvy movement and interchange with an old man or a
Christian or a roosnak through the midfield.
Speaker 7 (01:51:14):
It comes for can he find his first goal for
the Sounds? Of course it was Ruydiez who left in
the off season thirteen goals against the Timbers and his
games here. Fantastic return by Rui ds forever started to
fill those shoes if he found his first goal. Yeah,
but fight the cysts in this season. As new runs
(01:51:36):
over challenged the ball Well reads it, but Scaa tries
to go around him. Other people have done that and
failed as he did, but clears by the sounds finds Moreno,
then iollow with that sweet left foot, rips it to
the far side of the left overlapping run outside of
the foot by Anthony George Moore bounces at the six
picked up by Stephan Fry. It was a wonderful ball
(01:52:00):
from the outside of the Founders center forward couldn't do
anything more than just cushion a header into the six
picked up by Freight.
Speaker 6 (01:52:06):
It's great delivery.
Speaker 9 (01:52:07):
But when you're on the left hand side and you
swing a ball in with the outside of your right foot,
very rarely can you generate power on those ones. I mean,
you think of a Portuguese international in Corezma. Who I mean,
he's shot from everywhere with the outside of his foot
swung in balls, and so for a striker to be
able to generate enough power it's nearly impossible. It goes
for the cushion header far post doesn't come up, zuper
(01:52:29):
Rich foul on Masafski ball over the top. Here comes Ferrera.
Speaker 28 (01:52:33):
Bull holds up on this sticky surface, but top of
the box is per Ara.
Speaker 7 (01:52:36):
Good quick free kick by the sound is flicked around
the corner to Ryan Kent plays it back to Vargas
left hand side of the eighteen yard box clips towards
the fars sick misscleared boy for it. Ball bounces around
top of the box, picked up by Christian rolled On.
Eventually cold looks like some referee flag on the far
side is up from off side. It's gonna be a
(01:52:56):
free kick for the Timber's just inside their eighteen yards well.
Tonight's match is presented by the Western Washington Toyota Dealers.
Here in the fifty fourth minute Timbers one Sounders won.
The score of need is presented by Provident Swedish. All
goes back to Crapo, of course, had that horrific injury
(01:53:19):
and MLS Cup for LAFC.
Speaker 6 (01:53:23):
Have to go off.
Speaker 7 (01:53:24):
Took him the best part of the year to come back.
He wasn't able to win his spot for the following
season and moved to Portland. Had two clean sheets two
games prior to this game. Sound has broke. Then it's
gonna be a foul for the Sounders. Frans are not
gonna like that, Anthony. Just a bit of arjibarge down there.
(01:53:48):
They are just pushing away the Brazilian big A little
word of the referee as he wanders over there to
have a word with the big Sounders central defender. Talked
about it last game. This referee took a litt walt
to getting the game. He seems been okay, but the
aggression of referees needs to maybe be curtailed somewhere.
Speaker 28 (01:54:07):
They'd like to sprint over and get in the face
of players.
Speaker 6 (01:54:10):
Yeah, I mean, we're always gonna talk about the referees.
It's just easy pickings. It's that kid on the playground,
you know it is.
Speaker 9 (01:54:17):
They do it to themselves and for the better part
of this game, I think the referee has done a
good job, but like you said, it's it's the aggression
at the end of the day and you see him
walk on the field before the game and it's just
this arrogance and I guess that was just the opposite
of the player that I was, So I can't stand it.
But to night, done a good job and we'll bed
once again proving his worth and how valuable he is
(01:54:39):
with this team and playing with Christian and partnering.
Speaker 6 (01:54:42):
They've just been so pivotal in this game.
Speaker 7 (01:54:44):
Both squats or Rusnak one touch to Ryan Kent inside
the h and yard box, left outside, little shimmy. Of course,
he goes to his heard right foot, little cut finds
new now and support which long the six headed clear
by Sermon and then cleaned up by Mars Squerira. Ran
Kent goes across and trying challenge Moreno goes back to
Ayala to muscare a good challenge the pressure from the Sounds,
(01:55:04):
but Portland still have possession just in front of.
Speaker 6 (01:55:06):
Us, down from us.
Speaker 7 (01:55:07):
Then in comes Vargas, slides across, wins the ball. He's
having a conversation with a couple of Sounders staff for
the first half and it just the presence of Vargas
and rolled on in the sense of the Parks gonna
be as good of a one two punch in MLS
as you can get between those two.
Speaker 9 (01:55:23):
Yeah, and he just like we said in the first half.
But you see what was missing in the game against LAFC.
Maybe it was formation, maybe it was a bit of
personnel or a bit of both. Right, And I think
for the Portland Timbers and I Moscaa has n't put
a foot wrong. I think it's been fantastic with a
big challenge. Right, you watch video all week and you
prepare for a player like Brian Ken who's got quick feed,
(01:55:44):
he's got pace, he's got power. And what I like
about Muscia and and Moreno is at any time Moscaa
gets forward, Moreno just drops in behind and covers for him,
to make sure that Portland always has a back line
of four. That partnership has worked out really well for
the Timbres. Tough ball by Rosneck two. Yeah, Mark, there's
nothing more than the safety option.
Speaker 7 (01:56:04):
First, just clips it forward and then picks up by
Rosnick miscontrolled middle of the park, good play by rolled
down again twice now in a straight concession. Just picks
up the ball, wins the ball turns out of pressure
fantastic played by Christian who is it's incredible, you know,
it's interesting. Christian is now really finding his feet as
that central holding number six gets the ball off the
back four and it's not part of the game that
(01:56:26):
he was really incredibly comfortable with. But again, it just
wins the ball the right place, right time. This has
his neck of winning the ball in the middle of
the park and then keeps possession because it's easy to
win it.
Speaker 9 (01:56:36):
But then what you do with it right And look,
Steve len Hart and I drove down today and we
were reminiscing about a Chad Marshall and just how good
he was. And I was like, that's the guy that
would bark every single practice. And when Christian came into
this team, you better believe that when Christian was in
the lineup and he was in front of him, he's
the guy who made Christian better.
Speaker 7 (01:56:55):
Pick ups for it down the left, down side to
Anthony inside the box, left corner, there's varg Yes, there's
Alex rolled on hook clear. Vargas goes up, clips the
ball towards Ryan Kent knocks it back to Vargas, square
ball to New good calm. Composed play by the sounders.
As Nu gets it left hand side, tries to clear it,
it flects off Moreno, he finds the foot of Mosquera
(01:57:16):
sounders just holding top of that box. Fifty eighth minute
one one sound as Timbers bull whipped in head and
Moura had a chance. It was twisted and turned, couldn't
get the header on target trying to head it backwards.
Marino picks it up, clips it in top of the
six yard box, easily collected by Stephan Fright on a.
Speaker 9 (01:57:34):
Weird sequence of play here on the left hand side.
Knew who's throwing up his hand and saying no one's
coming short. But if you don't see anyone within two
or three seconds, there's nothing wrong with a center backer
just launching it up the field, put in the opposite corner,
allow your team to get up. And then he slowed
the pressure. It's a free service in the box and
more luckily caught on his back foot. Can't direct that
one on frame.
Speaker 7 (01:57:53):
So for the Timbers, they've made a couple of changes.
We'll get to the bench in just a second. As
russne clips if he sents it as nearside the left.
Now Ken has a time and space to pick up
some momentum. Bull goes in one two with Vargas love
the six collected by Cravepo. Good quick, incisive play combination
in Kent Vargas Love the six collected by Craypo in
(01:58:14):
the Potland golf that's the one that we've been asking for.
Speaker 9 (01:58:16):
If you're not gonna beat him with speed and power
on the dribble, it's gonna come from a one to two.
And just like the KROI for Wwick last week for
LAFC against our Sounders, the one to two never fails
in this game. There's there's few things that we've learned
as youngsters that are staples in this game that will
never cease to exist, and that's one of them. And
that's just fantastic play from Ryan Kent on the left side.
Speaker 7 (01:58:38):
Good quality wing play. But it comes ilic whether sounds
weren't done last week. That's Wednesday against LAFC. Middle of
the park where it's time and space and here comes
Portland picking up momentum, well collects off news, deflected news
asking for a goal kick. There's gonna be a corner
kick for the Timbers on their right hand side. The
Sounders FC Soccer is present it by Provident Swedish official
(01:59:02):
healthcare pander of Sounders Fcas you ticked towards the sixty
minute bark Timbers one Sounders one Sounders have to defend
this corner kick. It's gonna be the foot of goalscorer
Moreno right hand side. The costs are just on the
(01:59:22):
corner of the eighteen yard box in support eleven men
inside the box for the Sounders. More comes in top
of the six headed clear bye Yama picked up by
moreno chance by Ryan Ken because you've all done takes
over and then it's Anthony just books it over the tops,
played by the number eleven. It's gonna be a goalkick.
(01:59:42):
Sounders chanced to breathe here, but of course this game
has provided for straight.
Speaker 6 (01:59:48):
In and let's go ahead.
Speaker 9 (01:59:50):
My question is did you ask Andy Rose about defending
corner kicks right?
Speaker 6 (01:59:54):
Because we just saw it again.
Speaker 9 (01:59:55):
We've seen it the last couple of weeks and now
the Sounders are mismatched three on four with the rest
so in that area and every time I watch it,
I just get nervous when I watch it. Right, if
I'm an attacker that's going to be free on that
four v three ball by Russnak in behind.
Speaker 7 (02:00:09):
We saw it from a pair of Craigco saw it
as well, came out of his box collected it was
Rossnak middle of part trying to slice the ball between
the back four for a Diagler run from Alex rolled On.
Couldn't quite get that there's gonna be a Sounders throw
on the far side. So to your point, you and
I talked about it. We both saw it that wide
open player. I think Brian mentioned it today in our call. Yes,
(02:00:29):
there was some too much space top of the box,
Lesson learned. And then Andy Rose, I think I can
pass them actually outside the hotel he said the same thing.
So for the Sounders they didn't have to look at
their wounds after their four nil loss to LAFC.
Speaker 28 (02:00:46):
But as runs, Schmetz said, it's in the rearview mirror
now much change.
Speaker 7 (02:00:50):
Team LFC is no easy place to go to play
a game, especially when they're in full flight. Sounders had
a number of.
Speaker 28 (02:01:01):
Players came in eight changes for that game, one of them.
Speaker 7 (02:01:04):
Being Derrazario, who got his first MLS start playing up front,
gots some minutes A couple of games before that Sounders
hold the top of their box. Crapo has it bolted
out to sermon on this right hand side. It's a
big New Zealand international center back who mentioned before got
his first start for Portland against the Sounders last Decision
(02:01:29):
Day October twenty twenty four.
Speaker 28 (02:01:32):
Really anchored himself at the backline.
Speaker 7 (02:01:35):
Zuper Rich came on a half time for Caml Miller
big money signings early in the Phil nevill Era. Sounds
just patient in their press and just inside their attacking
half the field. As Rosnack now it goes outside to
the rights of MOSCAA coach quickly down by Ryan Kent.
This sermon.
Speaker 9 (02:01:56):
That's good defending from the Sounders. Keep everything in front
of you. Portland Timbers want to go wide, but the
Sounders have been first to apply pressure. Of course, it's
come down the middle. It's good defending therefrom new who
head the ball back to Stephan Fry. Now it's about
the Sounders getting back into this game.
Speaker 7 (02:02:13):
It's been a bit of a low.
Speaker 9 (02:02:14):
For the Sounders in the last twelve thirteen minutes. Schmitts
might be thinking about a couple subs to kind of
reignite this squad and get after it.
Speaker 7 (02:02:22):
Well, let's remind everyone for the bench was mentioned a
half time by Jackson and the team just get to
the a minute as Paul and pickoff a Sounder's Aaron
passing there at defensive third of the field, top of
the boxes, must Scare tries to go through the legs
of Knew, who Pocas cleans things out, rolls out to
Ryan Kent down the line. He goes to News and
a couple of chances to get forty across the half
(02:02:43):
roy line. He goes Ryan Kent to his left. Knewho
just slows it down. It's gonna go back to Christian Roldan,
So you gets get to that bench for the sound
as Kilane, Danny Labor, Jonathan Bell, Pedro De la Vega,
Paul Rothrock Derozario, Andrew Thomas, Georgie Menungo and Reed Baker
Whiting Sermon cleans it up, plays the ball out to
Ayala deep inside there half of the field as Rosnak
(02:03:06):
has him dealt nibbled a moreno and it comes the
timbers in full flight. The Sounders retreat well, and there's
that man Christian rolled on again right place right, So
I'm just nicks in front of Mareno wins. The ball
keep's possession plays to his Ponda Vargas, who plays into
his near sign to Ryan Kent right in front of
Phil Neville. I'm sure Ken, that's the fourth official right there,
(02:03:30):
Moscare having a little nudge on Ryan Kent. There's the
physical nature of this game.
Speaker 9 (02:03:35):
Yeah, listen, it's a derby at the end of the day.
You gotta expect walking into these ones. You should be
forewarned that that's common at any point. And I think
the referee has done a good job. There's Ryan Kent
plays it just a little Aaron on the pass. He
wanted to skip by Moscow, which he.
Speaker 7 (02:03:49):
Did, and now the Cossa.
Speaker 9 (02:03:53):
The referee's done a good job of letting those ones
go in this game because he knew it was always
going to be chippy in this one. Call the big ones,
but let the game have that bite. The fans want
to see it, the players want it. You feed off
of it as a fan. Right if you're a center back,
you want the opportunity to crush a center forward as
they come into your space. And if I'm a right back,
I want to do anything to get inside the head
(02:04:13):
of an outside midfielder Will Scare has done that tonight
against Ryan Cannon. Looks a little tired to me, Ryan
Kent right now, Obed looks like, I mean, you put
in so much effort in that first half early parts
of this second half. But how do you get your rest?
You get active rest by being in the right place defensively,
doing the work early, and then keeping the ball when
you have it, because it heat the ball for extended
(02:04:34):
periods of time.
Speaker 7 (02:04:35):
Get hit him. The sound as nam They're gonna move quickly.
We'll go squatch all the box of Christian rold.
Speaker 32 (02:04:39):
One strikes it just wide, goodness, gracious, want to strike
by Christian rold On well of twenty five yards out,
just narrowly wide.
Speaker 7 (02:04:50):
Of the top corner of Cray post goal. It's gonna
be a goal, Kake. It's gonna remain one to one
from bred Evans. That's the type of dynamic play we've
expect to see now from Christian Roldon.
Speaker 1 (02:05:00):
Yeah.
Speaker 9 (02:05:00):
Look, it's about old bed Vargas winning that header. Ball
gets played forward. Albert Rusnak finds his space on the
outside and that gives daylight for Christian to push in.
Almost says at number ten, a little layoff from Albert
Rusnaks takes a touch and he just hits all that
one with his laces fading out wide.
Speaker 6 (02:05:16):
It's just about a yard over the bar.
Speaker 9 (02:05:19):
I'd like to see the Sounders with a little extended
possession make this pull in Timbers team work a little
bit harder, try to shift them out of position.
Speaker 6 (02:05:28):
And then wait for that right opportunity to get forward.
Speaker 7 (02:05:31):
It sounds a ticket past the fifty percent market fifty
three percent possession now, so they were lacking behind in
the first stage of the first half. It comes Anthony
overlap and run by Fury towards the end line, and
then well Claire byked kim key. He right place, right time,
just shined it or kneaded over the end line, doesn't
matter how it happened, cleaned up inside the six. It's
(02:05:53):
gonna be a corner kick. Before that's gonna happen, there's
gonna be a change. It's gonna be Anthony who's gonna
make way sure a little at his disappointment, proudly to
appreciate his efforts. It's been a fire these passing month
or so. Five assists in five straight games. You mentioned
going into midweek games, but on comes no slouch. Jonathan Rodriguez,
(02:06:17):
the ballon door winner in twenty one twenty two LEGA
MX sixteen dolls and his an aaugural campaign for the
Timbers last year. Who comes off the bench just nursing
an injury, getting back to full fitness. Like for like
Switch there, Cornickick comes in, heady clear by Yemar, picked
up top of the box, my Morino, Ryan Kent challenges
(02:06:40):
comes off the chest of Christian's just.
Speaker 28 (02:06:43):
Gonna shake that one off right the gut. The Sounders
step up their line.
Speaker 7 (02:06:50):
Cleared by Craper Diaglo, ball all the way out to
the far side the Portland left, heady clear by Alex
then Misofty just nips in heads the ball over the
far touch line. Going to be a throwing full the Timbers.
As we see a little bit of action down on
Brian Schmittz's bench full Rothrock getting some last minute instructions
from Andy Rose. We'll see what change that is. It's
(02:07:11):
probably gonna be alightful. Like Switch, I would have matchined
bred for Ryan Kent.
Speaker 9 (02:07:15):
Yeah, well Perrara, Yeah, both of those guys will come
off and they put in a good shift tonight. But
you know, when you're a wide midfielder, your job is
to get multiple crosses in in a game and it's
a provide offensive power. And Ryan Kent tonight just couldn't
find his feet in the first twenty twenty five minutes
of this one as he was getting forward and that's
(02:07:35):
where he's his most powerful.
Speaker 6 (02:07:37):
Right. I still think he's getting a full match fitness
in and so.
Speaker 9 (02:07:40):
Credit to him. He put in the shift tonight. He
never turned off. But there's still work to be done
for him, and I think that'll be good for him.
Speaker 7 (02:07:46):
Right.
Speaker 9 (02:07:46):
He came in, it was three and three assists in
his first three games, but he understands like, Okay, there's
a different level to this league and it's not always
going to be an assist and a goal. I got
work to do, which is good.
Speaker 7 (02:07:56):
It's it's a tough league, and I think any player
that comes in now is realizing just athletes technically. Now
this league is come so many scripts come so far
in the last decade or two very mature league now
thirty clubs with San Diego's inclusion in this season, it's
the thirtieth year celebration for MLS, so all sorts of
(02:08:20):
celebrations this year, one of them being, of course, as
you mentioned, the fiftieth anniversary of the Timbers, the fiftieth
anniversary of this great game Timbers one Sounders won here
in one hundred and twenty third meeting between these clubs
supports Radio ninety three point three KJR FMS. Can he
launched it long down the right hand side, headed clear
by four who's been really strong in that position.
Speaker 28 (02:08:43):
But picked up by Mussoski. Can he make something happen?
Speaker 7 (02:08:45):
Top of the box Rigle's free look for a bit
of space finds Rosnek twenty five yards from gold, right
of center, support by Alex on the right hand side,
whips it in and gets a deflection straight in the arms.
Speaker 28 (02:08:56):
Pray pro who's mussos could quite get that bit posted?
Speaker 7 (02:09:00):
Done that so well of last month? Or so couldn't
point get there? Pray pronaw is gonna sidewind it forward
the yam I just nudges Rodriguez off the ball, defending
by yea our big strong, powerful presence back there of
course a wayte slightly by Christian not like him, but
(02:09:23):
it comes paradis now. But the cost and DP for
Ballard number ten pulls it out to the left hand
side to Rodriga's first real touch in the game. Goes
back to the cost and lute one two with Marino,
Alex came across and ball on paradis. Referee is right there.
Fans don't like it, at least the Portland fans don't
(02:09:43):
like it. Sounds fanser cheeriot. There's gonna be a double
change now for the Sounders, the expecting changes. We saw.
Verira comes off. Couldn't get his goal tonight, but good
shift from Hazus Vverira in his first Timber Sounders match.
And there's to be Ryan Kent as well. Good players
of course come off the bench. Della Vega roth Ruck
(02:10:06):
like for like switch Rosneck will stick in the middle.
Della Vega getting a couple of words of advice from Rossneck,
just reminding him maybe of his juties defensively.
Speaker 9 (02:10:17):
I think I think Hey Sus tonight was one of
his better overall chefs tonight.
Speaker 6 (02:10:21):
He defended well.
Speaker 9 (02:10:24):
The way that he moves, It's hard to explain how
he moves on the field, but he always seems to
make the right pass. He was very good in his
passing tonight. And creating space from others. Unfortunate not to
get in front of the goal on too many occasions.
Still yet to find his feet and how he kind
of pieces into this team. But competition is good, right,
Competition at the end of the day is good, and
(02:10:44):
it's gonna provide the cream of the crop. Is it's
gonna rise to the top well.
Speaker 7 (02:10:48):
And it's gonna be a challenge for him. Maybe in
Dallas he was always a kind of a pencil didn't
player when the first of the team sheet. Now he's
going to earn it and that kind of allows a
play who's doingly twenty four years old still, even though
he's played so many games with so many goals in MLS.
Speaker 28 (02:11:03):
Allows him to challenge himself as well.
Speaker 7 (02:11:05):
That's to compete for time. Sounds stacked in that attacking
midfield area of the field. Of course, Georgia Munungo still
to come on if he if the Sounders need him.
Do you think that Brian Schmitz, with the place he's
got now with Rosneck, got a chance to rest in midweek,
(02:11:27):
So hopefully Sounds will sound as Brian will. We'll see
out ninety minutes for a Rossneck goal scorer. Tonight, of course,
would would be good to have Padella Vega find a
goal as well. Good switcher play by rolled on over
the top of Muscary goes Is Rothrop inside the six
and a good saved by craper you cut in front
(02:11:48):
of Mosquera could have gone down, stayed honest eight yards out.
Creper makes the save, smothers the ball. Here come palling
now in transition left hand side is Rodrigue has foot
of the cost. The middle of the park clips to
towards Mora out comes. Fry takes control. Well played Stephen
Fry smothers the ball and then again quickly rolls it out.
(02:12:09):
Not a breath to be taken. Seventy third minute here
Providence Park, Downtown Portland.
Speaker 28 (02:12:14):
Sounders timbers one one wide open game, so.
Speaker 6 (02:12:19):
We watch that replay.
Speaker 9 (02:12:20):
It's a fantastic switching ball from Christian rolled on just
over the head of Muscare. Paul Rothrock takes a great
touch but just can't find the back of the net.
Speaker 7 (02:12:29):
We're balling behind. Rothrockers looking the ball inside again, but
then picks it up, pivots right corner of the box,
goes Square, clips towards the back stick towards Alex rolled
On brings it down brilliantly in one touch back to
his brother Christian top of the box. Coach squats his
near sight too new he's gonna strike it. Ambitious crowd,
(02:12:49):
the little ole two new who? But why not? Confidence?
Of course, scored his first goal because a couple of
weeks ago, Well.
Speaker 6 (02:12:58):
Why not is the question? But why is the bigger question?
Knew Who. You've got so much good pressure here.
Speaker 9 (02:13:04):
You just put her Poe under a little bit of pressure,
and you've got Paul Rothrock set up on the left.
You've got three runners in the bocket box and you
elect to shoot from thirty yards out And I'm sure
Schmitzer is talking to him right now.
Speaker 6 (02:13:14):
If you do that again, we're gonna have an issue.
Speaker 7 (02:13:19):
Knew Who will be near here? Lots of good sometimes
a little question to be asked. If Vargas comes back,
challenges Paratus, pulls him down inside is half of the field?
Speaker 28 (02:13:33):
Does Rothrot little chippy We talked about Rothrot coming off
the bench.
Speaker 7 (02:13:37):
Felt like he's the ideal person now to bring off
the bench for the final twenty minutes. So he's already
proved himself willing run up, but also really to snap
on the heels of the Timbers players.
Speaker 9 (02:13:47):
Yeah, you gotta have that bite. And the Sounders have
been looking for those guys on the field at all times.
And I'm happy that Paul Rothrock's gonna bring. He's always
gonna wear his emotion on the sleeve. He's done it
since he's got his first appearance the Sounders.
Speaker 6 (02:14:00):
You see it.
Speaker 9 (02:14:01):
No theatrics, but he's always getting into it with his
opposing defender. And he's been the better part of the
score sheet, whether goals or assists. So the proofers in
the putting.
Speaker 28 (02:14:12):
Turn out a pressure by Mussoski, Dela Vega supporting him.
Speaker 7 (02:14:15):
His Musovski takes a touch before he just puts his
strong body across Mussovski. He's asking Delaveate some help. Delavega
made the runs obviously, just didn't release the ball. But
he comes forward now left hand side, rips it in
headed clear by Yami's been there all night clearing those
balls alongside Kim Ki Hee and he finds da Costa
now drops.
Speaker 28 (02:14:35):
His shoulder, comes square to parade us substitute.
Speaker 7 (02:14:39):
In this second half for ortiz As Marine, a goalscorer
turns drops the Rodriguez pe Moor and number nine has
been quiet five goals in his season, but it's been
a little quiet tonight. Look of Jinx things the minions
can be quite of course, they want touch and they
score a goal. It comes Alex rodd On striding forward,
(02:15:01):
find Stella Vega, zips it into him, is able to
control it well. On the far side. The sound is right,
comes in square to Rouzneck feels the pressure for Mora
just drops it off. Sounds keep possession with Christian rolled
arm well sound as FC Socket is presented by Provident,
Swedish visual healthcare partner of Sounders. FC roth Rock has
(02:15:22):
it as near Sight seventy sixth minute Timbers one Sounders.
One of this corpeny is presented by Toyota. Christian rolled
on middle of the park just orchestrating things from his
defensive midfield position. Ball goes into roto good quick play
(02:15:43):
and pass zips in the line. As Masasi can't win,
it goes down. Referee called the foul. Massalski on zuper Rich.
It looks like a foul to me.
Speaker 9 (02:15:53):
It looked like he just stepped in front of him
and zuper Rich catches him in the back of the
leg and falls over. In Portland, Timbers just haven't been
very good with they're passing inside the attacking third with
their midfielders, And I think when Neville watches this tape back,
that's gonna be the thing he's gonna point out, Like boys,
if we just connect these passes and not give cheap giveaways,
we're gonna find ourselves with some good opportunities.
Speaker 6 (02:16:15):
And if we don't, like it's a good squad like the.
Speaker 9 (02:16:17):
Sounders, we're gonna find ourselves feeling under pressure and not
able to keep the ball. They started the game with
the majority of the possession and then all of a
sudden it just kind of fell apart.
Speaker 6 (02:16:27):
All this game went on.
Speaker 7 (02:16:28):
Yep, ball gets launch gone by Vargas. It's a safety
first option. Sounds a fifty three percent possession right now.
So it shows how much they've controlled the game since
the early the first fifteen minutes rearly of that first half,
when the Timbers came out, as you'd expect from Portland
Hoe with this boisterous crowd, came out on top sound
as a sorb that early pressure. Now taken control ten
(02:16:49):
shots against Timbers, five shots quick to throw our believe
referee he pulled it back. It's gonna be a sub
to substitution four. The tempts to be Moscare who's been
good tonight and down that right hand side he comes out,
he'll never gives him a big old hug. It's gonna
(02:17:11):
be Eric Miller, who's gonna come on like like switch.
Eric will set on that right hand side. Sounders still
have some options to bring off the bench, of course,
but I think Sounders and Brian will potentially see this
one out. If they can do it, is gonna get
a potentially a longer run than normal. There's a number
(02:17:32):
nine spot. See Freddie Warre's handing a piece of paper
over to the fourth official. Is gonna plug that into
the board. So pending change. Georgia Munungo on that right
hand side, but well played by Danny Masoski wins the ball.
There's fowls that a yellow tart.
Speaker 6 (02:17:57):
That's certainly a foul.
Speaker 9 (02:17:59):
That's really well done by Danny Mussovski. And he's quicker
and a little bit more sly, you know. I think
we realized so bretd it was Ayala.
Speaker 7 (02:18:06):
It looked like he was about to pull something out
of his pocket, and then he got a little birdie
on his shoulder told him that Iola got a yellow card,
so he rescinded it, which again we can have a
different conversation about that. But it looked like he initially
thought maybe a yellow card. But there's a cynical fowl.
It was Danni Massowski on the ball very well from pressure,
turned out, went forward and then got pulled down. And
(02:18:29):
it's a chance Sounders from a free kick from a
dead wall situation. Is it gonna be thirty yards or
so from the end line right of center. It's the
two men wore the Costa and Rodriguez ten yards in
front of rosne haul and holding the top of their box.
Sounders have roth Rock wide open on this mere side fishing.
(02:18:53):
Roldard's lingering a couple of yards off side. He'll come
back to an on side position. I'm sure he's just
gonna beat Portland mcloyin to draw. And it comes now
and it played by seven big powerful center back as
r Vegas does a good job to flick it around
the corner to DaCosta. Now it comes Portland. Good play
(02:19:15):
by Alex Roldan gets his body between Portland player goes
down wins the free kick. Really good defending by Alex
Roldan Bright Evanson.
Speaker 9 (02:19:25):
It's good defending by Alex Roldan, but the service just
not there for Rusnak. If you that's the problem, If
you don't have good service in these moments, you're gonna
get caught on these counter attacks. And it's an unnecessary
eighty yard sprint back for Alex Roldan in the eightieth
minute of this one. And it starts with poor service
on the free kick. You can prove all your players
up the field and all you have to do is
(02:19:46):
get that ball wiped in across the six. And we
know against the Portland Timbers, and the souners do well
to keep three players back to make sure that they
negate this Portland Timbers counter attack.
Speaker 7 (02:19:57):
Up goes Masovski continues to look right there, We'll see
what change Boyn will make. Georgiemnun goes down below us.
Will it be Danny Massos? Could he rusnack maybe Sloyd
Della Vager into the number ten? Lebasovski on and then
it was a.
Speaker 28 (02:20:11):
Rough rock almost nipped in front of Crappol in the
back pass.
Speaker 6 (02:20:15):
I love those ones. As an attacker, you're just baiting.
You knew that. The deviser look and you just go.
Speaker 28 (02:20:22):
Sounders have it farst side the right, and the change
is gonna be put up.
Speaker 7 (02:20:26):
It's gonna be Masofski. We'll see how this chicks things up.
Georgie mnung. We've seen Georgie run up in front, wants
but many roth ruck.
Speaker 9 (02:20:36):
They're gonna be Rothrock up up top and let Georgie
handle this left hand side and get out. Eric Miller
Moscaro was great all night. And then you bring on
a veteran presence in Eric Miller, and Georgie should have
a field day as the Sounders are surely gonna try
and isolate him one on one.
Speaker 7 (02:20:52):
You love to be a player. When he said comes
off the field, comes off the bench, and the analyst says,
Georgie mcnhunkle's gonna have a field day against you.
Speaker 6 (02:21:01):
He should, he should.
Speaker 7 (02:21:05):
Well, I'll tell you Rothrock up front. It's not a
bad option. I mean he's gonna get around it. He's
gonna hustle. He's got the quality to finish. As we know,
Goal's already on his campaign this year five goals last year.
It comes Rodriguez now striding forward. The Mr comes across.
Referee Venture does give it.
Speaker 28 (02:21:23):
Rodriguez used his experience to go down.
Speaker 7 (02:21:28):
It was a little late on the car there. I
think he just let it play out and wait for
the crowd to ask for it, and he obliged gave
him the free kick. But it's gonna be a free
kick for Portland on their left hand side. It's gonna
be a Marina with his right foot, so it's gonna
be in swinger. Also, it's about forty yards from the
(02:21:48):
end line, about five yards in from the far touch line.
Sound is holding about a yard or two inside their
eighteen yard box. Jeff and Fry all alone in his
six Sounders need to defend. We get here in the
final eight minutes or so of the nineteen one one
between Sounders and Portland, one hundred twenty third game between
(02:22:09):
these two great clubs, biggest, greatest, most competitive derby in MLS.
Speaker 28 (02:22:19):
Ball comes in from Moreno hooked in headede.
Speaker 7 (02:22:22):
Clear by Jamar, brilliant by Yemar again or bounce around
goes back to DaCosta their DP furthest man back, So
Paraders are gonna switch the point of attack all the
way to Rodriguez gonna head the baller headed clear by Yema,
picked up by Vargas, pressured by DaCosta, goes to nude.
Speaker 28 (02:22:43):
There's a little step over, slides in, it's released.
Speaker 6 (02:22:47):
The ball.
Speaker 7 (02:22:48):
De la Vega comes back really well, able to put
pressure on it and force Ayala back. That switches all
the way to the far side of the sticky surface.
The ball holds up and it comes forward down their
left hand side. It up and of course who's there
but Christian rolled on the top of the box read
the play well, picked it up. Sounders now with the ball,
(02:23:09):
Christian roll Do On's feet.
Speaker 9 (02:23:10):
Once again, it's Christian Rolldon in the right spot. But
it's the lack of passing accuracy tonight for the Portland
Timbers when it matters most. No credit the Sounders for
good defensive position right always drop him back to find
themselves in the right spot.
Speaker 6 (02:23:25):
To be able to pick up the ball and get
the other way. And then the Sounders give it away cheaply.
Speaker 9 (02:23:30):
And that's kind of been the story of the past
twenty twenty five minutes of this one.
Speaker 6 (02:23:33):
No one really with good sustained.
Speaker 9 (02:23:35):
Pressure for any amount of time, and That's what a
Darby game is going to be. Everyone wants to get
to goal. Everyone's eyes are wide open, and someone on
the field needs to say, we just need to keep
the ball.
Speaker 6 (02:23:45):
Let's keep the ball and knocking side to side.
Speaker 7 (02:23:47):
Well lit coffee watching. Audio casts of Major League Socker
may not be reproduced, retransmitted, reproduced, or rebroadcast without the
express written consent of Major League Soccer. Five minutes or
so to go of the ninety We'll see what the
referee on one one between Timbers and Sounders here in
downtown Portland, Providence Park, one hundred plus year old stadium,
(02:24:09):
seen many a memory made here over the years between
these clubs. First ever game between Portland and the Sounders
was here in nineteen seventy five. Clash of heads that
lott nasty between Alex Roldan and four medical staff of
(02:24:29):
both teams come flying on. Chrisham rolled on pleading with
the referee.
Speaker 6 (02:24:36):
Yeah, I'd like to see the replay of this one.
Speaker 9 (02:24:38):
And if he's almost looking at Alex, kind of targeting
him because Alex is looking completely on the other side
of the field. He checks his shoulder. He knows that
the left winger, left back is coming up and he's
gonna challenge. I don't think he assumed that he was
going to get a challenge. Here was going to be
a free header and he comes through the ball. They're
probably not going to show a replay of this one
(02:24:59):
head to head challenge.
Speaker 7 (02:25:00):
But both players on the ground still. Medical staff is
out there getting treatment. We see Kilaney, so like for
light switch available, I don't think Brian will take any
chances here. As you get into the final five minutes
of ninety, Klani is now in the bench. She's gonna
get himself ready.
Speaker 6 (02:25:19):
Just in case.
Speaker 7 (02:25:20):
Both players still on the deck, so as those players
get the treatment that they need. Let's get you some
scores around MLS today and focus in on the Western
Conference that they scroll through these results. So New England nil,
San Jose nil. They went on the road as far
as you can go to New England other than Miami
and get that nil nil, draw, Austin nil, Vancouver nil.
(02:25:45):
Austin hold the number one team in the Western Conference
Vancouver to a nil nil tie. It's Dallas nil, Houston nil,
and that Texas Derby. Minnesota continue to fly high in
this past couple of months. They win three nil at
home against Saint Louis. It's Colorado in the eighteenth minute
(02:26:05):
one Salt Lake nil. So that's a big derby as well.
In the Mountain West region San Diego nil, Kansas City nil.
Not a derby, and then Portland of course one, Sounders one.
As before he goes off, Alex goes off. Doctor over
there just checking on things. Looks like Alex will be
(02:26:27):
allowed to come back on.
Speaker 9 (02:26:28):
I think the biggest surprise this season it's been Saint Louis.
They've been the fan base has been amazing, right. We
just talked to Brian Dunseth and they were calling the
game there on Wednesday night up to nothing and then
you're tied to to against your rival in Kansas City,
and the fans have showed up for that team through
thick and thin, and they've had a tough goal of
(02:26:49):
it this year. That's probably been my biggest surprise. And
I think on the on the other side is Minnesota.
Minnesota has been really good this year and how they've
built their team. They lost Ray Nooso at some point
that was kind a big talking point for that that squad,
but they've really come through.
Speaker 7 (02:27:04):
Ye young coach came in from Manchester noints. It took
over last year squirrely transition as he came in just
in the beginning part of the season. It's done extremely well.
And again it takes time to build yours team, your
squad and put your imprint on the team. And there's
so it's a bit patient. All goes from senset to
trying to find roth Rock by Christian Roldan, picked off
(02:27:27):
by the Timbers. They stride forward and back heel. It
comes to La Vega, Rothawk's available, goes the other way
to Rusnak to Georgian left hand site strikes it low.
Speaker 30 (02:27:36):
Good save by craypo good attack by the Sounders.
Speaker 7 (02:27:41):
All started from the Sounders midfield winning.
Speaker 9 (02:27:43):
The ball and he made the wrong decision there you
said it. Roth Rock was right there and he's begging
for it at the end. But the Sounders get a
corner cack and the Sounder's playing a man up right
now and Albert Rusnak as in the team.
Speaker 6 (02:27:54):
Let's play.
Speaker 9 (02:27:55):
Let's play quick and see if we can take advantage. Yeah,
broad this up comes on, yep, Bravo. Down below us
is getting ready to come on.
Speaker 7 (02:28:03):
Be a lightful like switch for Fourie who hasn't been
able to shake that head injury off. But here comes
della Vega, whips it in, punch clear by Craypo. Good
deliverybody de la Vega right on the doorstep Craypo's goal.
A little drop inside right corner box, whips it bounce
right in front of Craypos little ball. Those ones could
be tricky, sometimes not as much on a dry turf surface,
(02:28:27):
but the play by Delavega, good delivery from the corner.
Then good whipped in ball from the right corner of
the box.
Speaker 6 (02:28:32):
Here's where the tactics come in to play.
Speaker 9 (02:28:34):
The sounders got to know that they're playing a man up,
so when they win this ball back, they have to
keep sustained possession. It doesn't matter if they go into overtime,
wait for the right opportunity to calm playing a man
up for as long as you can.
Speaker 7 (02:28:45):
Yeah, keep that ball going. Of course, they can't make
a sub until the ball goes out of play. Sounders
have it. Foot of Christian World just splits the line
finds Rothrock through the legs, who was almost found Russneck.
He made the run he was on side, has flicked
with the right foot he rolls through to craypo What's
I mentioned? Your Sounders are back at home to face

You get out of better have a good breakfast, befoul.
The bars open up at eleven o'clock somewhere.
Speaker 7 (02:29:34):
For right now the Sounders and ticking towards the end
of this ninety we'll see what the referee and the
fourth official down below us adds on. It's four minutes again,
four minutes the end of the first half, four minutes
the end on the second half. Here's that change. There's
gonna be Oma Fernandez as well, getting some instructions. We'll
see what that change will be. Will benbe an Iala.
(02:29:55):
We will come off the field, but right now it's
gonna be Bravo comes on light flight switch before he
who just walks in front of us heavy collision with
Alex Roldan. Bravo's gonna come on. It's gonna spread all
the way across from this side of the field to
the far side to take his left back spot up.
It's gonna be gold Scorn Merino. It's gonna come off
(02:30:17):
off the field. It's gonna get the sounding ovation from
the crowd. There's gonna be Omea Fernandez who's gonna come
on the field. New York native played it for Colorado
right before our trip to Colorado back in April. He
comes on the field, gonna pay right side of that attack.
(02:30:41):
SAMs have worn in the hands of Alex, rolled on
down the line.
Speaker 6 (02:30:45):
It goes.
Speaker 28 (02:30:48):
Final to added time. Now four minutes about it.
Speaker 7 (02:30:51):
I picked up by Vargas back to Della Vega Rothwick
asking for on the right hand side. Inside it goes
to Vargas. Nobody there. I'll be there to support Vargas
made that run. Of course there was that right hand side.
You think it was twenty twenty three ways says it
for Rui DS like cut back where Rudy has finished
it so well. It comes Russak now sounders have the possession,
(02:31:14):
give it away. George's on his heels picked up brilliantly
by rolled On, then slid in by Russ. Now that's
the leadership you need. Yeah, that's a brilliant tackle to
stop that counterattack. And in the in the ninety plus minute,
and now you get Georgie isolated.
Speaker 6 (02:31:30):
And this is all day what he should be doing.
Speaker 7 (02:31:31):
Here he goes past Miller, dies onto the ground, flicked up,
head up, he's the very good the ducks block well
by Sermon, big time play by Sermon, now picked up
by Yeamar far side. The right sound has come again
in waves two minutes ago of the four attacking the
packed house towards our left, hipped in by rolled On,
(02:31:55):
headed clear by Sermon again really established himself in the
middle of that back four. It comes new whips through
the left foot good ball, headed clear again by Sermon,
put clear by Rodriguez, headed down by kim Key. He
sounders need a retreat. Now not give paulan eight chances
on this counter or goes along by Miller, stepped in well, Kimky,
(02:32:18):
he on more and more has been very very quiet.
It's been shackled by the two central defenders all night.
But the sound has come again. They continue to knock
here is getting just over a minute left of the fork.
Sounders find some magic to add to the memories of
this great game. With Vargas in possession to Rusnek who
(02:32:42):
just holding his position back, just making sure it's it's available,
gets it again, switch the players on. Now it's rolled on.
His brother Alex White on the right gets it now well,
whips across good ping ball by Christian, flicked around the
corner Pegro back to Alex, back to Pedro, De la
(02:33:03):
Vega to Christian, rolled on twenty five yards from Gold
comes out to this nearsight of Georgie. Thirty seconds to
go of the four minutes of at it time. Georgie
comes across, plays it to New got some time and
space his angle across ball comes in. Good ball is
headed down by Rothrock. It's gonna skip past De la Vega,
(02:33:24):
and I think Brad Evans, that might just be about
that as it goes over the end like goalkick Timber's
one Sounders one final second to this.
Speaker 9 (02:33:32):
It's a good build up for the Sounders, and it
was always gonna come from service from a wide play
and Rothrock finds himself isolated there in between the two
center backs and just can't whip his head on that
one to get it down.
Speaker 6 (02:33:42):
And surely the referee will blow the whistle on this kick.
Speaker 7 (02:33:48):
Past the four minutes. Perfect night for football, tonight, packed house.
This game hasn't disappointed. All action all the time, ball
hasn't been out of play for much in this game.
As the board does get launched locked Sounds need to defend,
they do and it's a foul and the referee sho
(02:34:09):
just put the whistle to his mouth. No need to
give it take a free kid, But here we go.
Referee is gonna add some time on thirty seconds past
the four. Sounders need to move it forward. Can they
get one final chance to space it on the right
and give it away by Christian rold Ark They can
the sounds of retreat. Good play by Alex referee. I'm
not sure where the extra time is here or a
(02:34:30):
minute past the four. Maybe it's a sub substitution, Tam,
I mean the sub that they made. It's gonna get
Pauland's final chances. It's a little sloppy by the Sounders
and there is the referees whistle brings another pulsating Darby
match between the Timbers and the Sounders to an end
here in downtown Portland. And it started off so well
(02:34:51):
for the Sounders. In the thirtieth minute, Albert Roseneck picked
the ball up and guided it into the bottom corner
from outside of the eating yard box, and then six
minutes later, in the thirty sixth minute set the aga
moreno scores to toy it up. Brad Evans, your final thoughts.
Speaker 9 (02:35:06):
Yeah, well done by the Sounders and to bounce back
from Wednesday night's performance, come in here, get the job done,
go up one nothing, you give up one on the
other end. But Portland never really threatened after that. Stephan
Fry I don't think was called on at all tonight.
So the Sounders stout defensively overall, and I think that
they had the better of play over the ninety minutes.
We saw Alex Rolldon laying on the field. Afterwards, you
saw Russknack hunched over. The Sounder's putting a lot into
(02:35:29):
this one. And now they get a couple of days
off and then you get three home games in a row, right,
which is which is great. And I think that Stephan
Frive will be saying as captain of this team Okay,
we build off of this one.
Speaker 6 (02:35:39):
Yes, we let the one Wednesday night get away.
Speaker 9 (02:35:41):
It was a tough three games on the road in
a week is really hard to pick up points to
finish at your rival, even more difficult to get a
point off. We go, we get three home games, we
do well there. We can see ourselves in second or
third place.
Speaker 28 (02:35:54):
Yep, and club will cup just around the corner. So
couple of stats.
Speaker 7 (02:35:57):
Fifty two percent possession for the Sounders fourteen show in
this game against the Portland Timbers five six of those
on target versus the one on target for the Timbers
which went into the back of the net. So Sounds
could be proud of their efforts, proud of what they
did tonight. Tough week, three straight away games in difficult
places ends up here at Providence Park. Well, thanks for

everyone involved in today's broadcast. Terry Ryan here at the
stadium inside our booth, Mitchell Blyve back at the studio,

Sounders legend Brad Evans. As we mentioned, after three straight
away games this past week, the team will get a
well earned rest and they returned to Lumenfield next Saturday

now we'll take a short break and Jackson Felt, Pete
Viewing and Chance Fry will be back to break everything down.
I'm Danny Jackson, thanks for joining us this evening from

of chances, and we do end one one and the

Speaker 8 (02:41:33):
Down this game.
Speaker 3 (02:41:34):
Peter to start with you initial thoughts on a game
that saw lots of chances in the last forty five minutes,
but the score at the half was the score at
the end, one to one.
Speaker 4 (02:41:42):
Entertaining game. I thought Seattle was the better of the
two teams, but not by a lot. I think we
were a chance just mentioned, and I think we were
in their attacking half creating chances more than they were
in our attacking half. They seem to be more counterattack ish.
We had decent possession, some good chances. That final product
(02:42:03):
is what we keep talking about that we didn't quite
get to. And I thought, you know, it was a
good game. I think both teams can walk off the field.
They certainly gave everything they had to it. But I'm
a little disappointed. I thought the subs were great. I
thought when Rothrock came in he gave energy. Especially Georgie
was good coming in Pedro. Pedro had one ball that
I want him to have gone to the right instead
(02:42:24):
of gone to the left. He could have gone to Rothrock.
All the Portland defense had shifted and they could have
got a goal, you know, like eighty sixth minute, which
could have ice the whole thing. But I think Brian
will be somewhat okay with this. But you know, you know,
you just gave us the stats and we had six
shots on goal to their one. That is telling. I
think that tells the tale. But neither goalie had to
(02:42:47):
get extended for anything chance. I mean, it wasn't like
they had come out and get big make a one
on one. Neither goalie was really tested.
Speaker 5 (02:42:53):
Yeah, I would totally agree with everything you just said.
I think Brian's going to be maybe happy to get
the point, but also disappointed to not get the three points.
There were enough good opportunities that if we were a
little bit sharper, we could have gotten better shots on
goal and a little bit quicker play, you know. We
let Portland get tucked in. Yeah, and it was once
(02:43:15):
they're back there, it's difficult to break a team down.
Speaker 4 (02:43:17):
They played with five at the back and we didn't.
Speaker 5 (02:43:20):
Really get in behind them a lot, and we didn't
have any real clinical shots on goal.
Speaker 3 (02:43:24):
To be honest, there were moments, especially in that second half,
where you know we can talk about two of them,
and we will in a moment, but to quickly go
over it, since you reference the stats, Seattle outshot Portland day,
it is finally you're confirmed thirteen to four thirteen shots
for Seattle, four for the Timbers on target Sounders had six,
Portland only had one.
Speaker 8 (02:43:44):
We also won in.
Speaker 3 (02:43:44):
Possession with fifty three. A little bit better packeting accuracy overall.
I think, especially in that last twenty minutes, the Sounders
had the foot on the gas and we saw that
seventy third minute. These these are a couple of big
chances that we've kind of talked about and we can
kind of go deeper into these. They're huge answer Paul
rothrock on the left side and he just isn't able
to put it in and there's kind of a scrum
(02:44:05):
right in front of that a left corner of the goal.
And then I think the most glaring one is the
eighty ninth minute where Pedro de Levega picks up a
ball and he has two runners off to his right
and his left. He has Albert off to his left,
who he plays but he has Paul Rothrock off to
his right, who he doesn't play. He sends the ball
to Albert who's in a little bit more traffic, but
he slides that ball to the right for Rothrock. Then
(02:44:28):
Paul is one on one with Maxim Croppo and Cropos
probably saying oh crap. So you know, we look at
those chances, but overall, you know, I think I think
the question to be asked here more than just those
two plays which we can talk about, is was this
a fair result considering that Portland also had some good
chances throughout this game.
Speaker 4 (02:44:49):
I have a tough one bias on that because I
wanted our guys to win.
Speaker 8 (02:44:53):
It's a good question of if it's a fair result.
Speaker 4 (02:44:55):
Yeah yeah, if you're if you're unbiased, you might say yeah,
you know, but I think we had the better chances.
Georgie he had a very good shot when he got
in and it went to the near post and uh
Craigle went down and did a good job to block it.
But if it gets off his foot a little bit quicker,
I think I think we created more of the chances.
But you I don't like the thing that we deserved
a goal. You have to earn a goal, you have
(02:45:16):
to do the job. You have to put it away.
You have to make sure that you know it's no
one deserves anything when in the soccer game, right, you
got to you gotta do it.
Speaker 5 (02:45:24):
I honestly, I think it was fair. It wouldn't have
been fair if we were more clinical and their goalkeeper was,
you know, playing off of you know, making a ton
of saves and.
Speaker 4 (02:45:37):
All that.
Speaker 8 (02:45:38):
But no, we didn't.
Speaker 2 (02:45:39):
That didn't happen.
Speaker 4 (02:45:40):
Yeah, so I think, yeah, that's a good point. You're
saying that because because he didn't have to make big
saves or it didn't hit a post, or we didn't
get a bit of luck. Yeah.
Speaker 5 (02:45:49):
Yeah, even though we had shots I'm holding on my
hands shots they weren't. We weren't super dangerous.
Speaker 3 (02:45:54):
And it's close, but too because I mean, let's just
throw out a hypothetical world. Who Pedro does play roth
Throck in the eighty ninth minute and Krippoe comes up
with an incredible save to keep the ball out of
the back of the net, then we might be saying
the otherwise. But ultimately we didn't make.
Speaker 8 (02:46:07):
The right pass. There was a cross where Rothbrock has
his head on it was it Knew who sent that.
Speaker 3 (02:46:13):
I think it was New who sent across in Rothrock
has his head on the ball, but it's just not
enough of his head to put it on target and
just redirects right past him. So you know, it's just
it's one inch here, one inch there. Not the right
play here, not the right play there. And ultimately I
agree with the chance. I think it's it's a fair
one to one result. There's still a lot to break
down from this game. An interesting discussion ahead for the
(02:46:33):
Toyota Man of the Match because I think there's a
lot of different places.
Speaker 8 (02:46:36):
We could go there.
Speaker 3 (02:46:37):

Welcome back to the postgame show Sounders and Timbers Splitting
the points Tonights down in Portland, a final of one
to one at Providence Park. Great job on the call
from Danny Jackson and Brad Evans. Tonight it is time
for Emerald Queen Casino Play of the match. The sounders
Lone goal tonight came in the thirtieth minute. A long
ball from Christian Roldanno, really a fantastic ball from rolled On,
(02:50:34):
ends up the foot of Danny Mazowski. Some good hold
up play, lays it off to Albert Rusnak, who finds
the back of the net.
Speaker 7 (02:50:41):
Over the top. He comes Musovski, He's got the run
on Miller bull holds up top of the box. Now
is Rusnack and support can't tour it right, strikes.
Speaker 13 (02:50:49):
It and it is ross Snack.
Speaker 29 (02:50:52):
He guys it in supports of corner and celebrates it
in front of the traveling sound of support.
Speaker 30 (02:51:00):
Providence Park is silent, the sound is fans celebrate one
nail sound.
Speaker 3 (02:51:07):
Is and the play of the match is presented by
Emerald Queen Casino, the betting capital of the Northwest. It
really did silence the Timber supporters' chance. But I think
overall to talk about that play, it all starts with
the ball from Christian rolled On.
Speaker 5 (02:51:19):
Yeah, it was an amazing pass from Christian. Danny makes
a good run, holds up play. He kind of gets
held by the defender, falls over the ball a little bit,
but keeps hold of it. Did great and then gets
it off to Albert, and Albert does a great job.
Albert knows exactly what he's doing there. He's cutting inside
and he's gonna shoot through his legs. He knows it
before he does it. You can see that, and he
guides it in perfectly, just as Danny Jackson said.
Speaker 4 (02:51:42):
Smart play, heads up play.
Speaker 5 (02:51:44):
He knew.
Speaker 4 (02:51:45):
I once played indoor with Precky, and Precki would line
up a defender so that the goalkeeper couldn't see the ball,
and then he would roll it as slow as he
could across the goal line, just to mess with the goalkeeper.
And Albert used that defender really well, because at first glance,
when I first saw it, I didn't think he hit
it very well, but he did. He hit it pretty well.
But he used the defender and right between Sermon's legs. Yeah,
(02:52:08):
and he knew exactly what he was doing. And that's quality.
He's been having a great year for us. And you know,
I like the trailer. Their goal was an Albert Rusnik
kind of goal, by the way. It was a late
run marino into the box, and Albert's been doing that.
We didn't see that enough today and we didn't and
we didn't have many cutbacks when you think about that,
right from the crosses right, and we saw Kent do
(02:52:28):
that earlier in a few games back, the last few
games he's been on. So but yeah, great goal from
Albert Usnik.
Speaker 3 (02:52:35):
So let's transition the conversation into the Toyota Man of
the match. And obviously there's an obvious one for Albert
Rusnik and and maybe it is him, but I think
there's a lot of other very good candidates. I have
somebody very specific in mind, but I'll start with you, guys,
and a chance, I'll start with you, then, Pete, who
would you nominate for your Toyota Man of the match?
Speaker 5 (02:52:56):
Well, we've mentioned him, and I think that Misovski did
a really good job of working hard up front holding
the ball, and uh, I thought he had a good game.
If he would have gotten a goal, that would have
been even better, obviously, but I think that he had
a really good game. The other guy that late in
the game got forward Knew who got some great crosses
(02:53:17):
in and I some good quality crosses, better than than
what we see sometimes, and he really whipped him in
with bend and and and with some pace.
Speaker 8 (02:53:27):
Okay, So, so we got.
Speaker 3 (02:53:28):
I heard Masovski, and I hear newho Pete give me,
give me one or two or three names.
Speaker 4 (02:53:33):
Well, I thought everybody was pretty good today. I thought
across the board, the whole team, everybody did their job.
Alex was good, Christian was good. Ot bit uh, but
so in this case, because it was even like that
for me and Missovsky was good. But he's got to
score goals, man. That's why we got him on the field, right,
I mean that's how Chance was a very good goal scoring.
(02:53:53):
He had to score to you know, be relevant, to
stay in the game and keep going. I and maybe
Chance said it, maybe leave Danny on a little longer
because those topoken guys, those guys who get in the
right spots, they might need it in the eighty ninth minute.
But to answer the question for me, I'd give it
to Albert because he got the goal.
Speaker 8 (02:54:12):
Playing interesting.
Speaker 3 (02:54:13):
Yeah, I'd like to nominate and at least talk about
the day from Kim Kihy and frankly Yemar too.
Speaker 8 (02:54:19):
But I thought that both of our center backs I.
Speaker 6 (02:54:21):
Thought were very very good today.
Speaker 3 (02:54:22):
A specific specific moments where Kim stepped up and said,
I'm going to you know, stretch out and and and
put my foot in and get in the way of
a of a Portland attack if they're trying to, you know,
play a through ball. And I thought he stepped really
really well today and put made a very a few
very very important challenges to keep Portland attacks from breaking. Overall,
I also, you know, a factor in the fact that
(02:54:43):
he's he's come in and he's just seamlessly integrated so
well into this back line. And you know, considering he
hasn't been here a while. He's still been playing obviously
in the k League. But I thought today he had
a very very good day. So he was the one
name I really wanted to throw for. I knew probably
you know, weren't going to give him the award, but
I do think that that he's the name. The secondary
(02:55:04):
name I had is Danny Mazowski. These I did really
like the hold up play today. He did make some
good runs. There were a number of cases where we saw,
all right, if you know, if there is a runner
for Danny to play, if they have Hazu's frera was
to make a run. And we talked about this on
the premat show. We said, all right, alex is gonna
get up. We need Hayesu's to tuck in and make
a run of the box and go. And I just
(02:55:25):
didn't see that enough from Hayesus Frera in the first
forty five minutes. I need to see more of that
from Ferrera.
Speaker 8 (02:55:30):
And I feel like a.
Speaker 3 (02:55:31):
Couple of times where Mazoski's playing that hold up and
he's putting himself in this great spot for somebody to
lay it off to, and there just wasn't that person there.
Mizoski was doing his job, and ultimately he does get
the assist on the Russnat.
Speaker 8 (02:55:44):
Goal, which is a which is a very very good goal.
Speaker 3 (02:55:47):
But it's it's the hold up play, it's the runs,
it's stretching Portland defensively that I think gave Seattle a
bunch of chances. So that's that's what I would say
in that entire conversation. I'm not sure if anybody has
a response to any of that.
Speaker 5 (02:56:00):
I would like to agree with you on Kim Khey,
because sometimes, you know, we look at their their forwards
and we think, oh, they're not really doing anything.
Speaker 8 (02:56:08):
Well, why aren't they doing any exactly.
Speaker 5 (02:56:10):
Because our defenders are playing well, they're stepping up, they're
getting in tackles, they were winning headers, and they were
stifling them before they could do something. So I think
that's a great point with that, and I think Mr
is in there as well. I thought they did a
good job in the center. Actually, Alex and Knew who
I mean, they all the back four actually played quite
well today.
Speaker 4 (02:56:29):
Yeah, Alex got a lot of crosses in in the
first half. You knew who got a lot in the
second half. And the wingers weren't the guys getting the
crosses in and maybe they were pulling people wide. You
know what, kim Key, he has come in and you're right,
it's been seamless. The one thing that he does do
that people should watch is that he will get stuck
in in a tackle in their half and oftentimes in
(02:56:52):
their defensive third exactly, and that's what you want from
a defender. And honestly, it reminds me of Dave Gillett
and Mike England just a little bit of a.
Speaker 8 (02:57:00):
Maybe a little Wade Weber, Oh.
Speaker 4 (02:57:01):
Yeah, yes, very much. A bit of way actually a
little more a little a little more elegant than Wade Weber. Right,
because the game has changed and the and they're going
right through. Somebody isn't appreciated by the officials as much anymore.
But yeah, it's it's one of those where it's he
gets he's silent, he doesn't stand over anybody, pops right
up and goes back to where he's important. He gets
(02:57:23):
stuck in. He did it with Marino today and I agree,
and it just sends a little message that I am
not afraid to go through. But he doesn't do it
at the edge of the box defensively, which I'm very
pleased about.
Speaker 8 (02:57:35):
But yeah, all right, well I think you know we're
doing this. I am thrilled that this is happening.
Speaker 3 (02:57:41):
Tonight's Toyota Man of the Match is Kim kih your
little toylet Dealers are product to present tonight's man of
the match. Just I think a fantastic game to keep defensively.
Obviously Portland have the one goal. It's a good goal,
but unfortunately if you kind of watch the play, I
think al Truldn keeps him on side on that initial ball.
So I think I would just say that, but I
think that for defending, you know, I wouldn't. I wouldn't,
(02:58:04):
I wouldn't poke anybody there. Really, I'm trying to find something,
but there's really nothing there. It's a really good goal
and it's well executed. It's very rustnack like, like we mentioned.
So I will just erase what I just said because
I think I think it's just a good.
Speaker 6 (02:58:17):
Goal for Portland.
Speaker 5 (02:58:18):
I'd like to look at it again though, because I
think right after the play was ending, oh, Beed.
Speaker 8 (02:58:23):
Is like raising his hand like because he thought, yeah.
Speaker 5 (02:58:25):
I think that he didn't fallen asleep for half a
second there, and I'd like to look at it again.
But there might be a little bit of a mistake
from OVID there, but I don't want to say it
for sure, but that's what I think I saw.
Speaker 1 (02:58:36):
Well.
Speaker 3 (02:58:36):
Ultimately, I think it was an overall very good game
by the center Backs. I would just edge it out
for kim Ki Heat just barely. But yeah, Sounders Portland

Speaker 3 (03:02:00):
Up the postmatch show here, Sounders and Timbers even one
to one tonight at Providence Park. It as a final
and Sounders end up with this three match road swing
where they went to Houston, then went to LAFC that
went to Portland. They end up one to one and one,
which at least for me going into the week. If
you told me one on one on one on that
three match road swing, I would have absolutely taken it
(03:02:22):
four points out of nine on the road. Yeah, I'm
pretty happy with with how this week ended up going
for the Seattle Sounders, considering also no new injuries.
Speaker 8 (03:02:31):
That's that's one of the most important things.
Speaker 3 (03:02:33):
Jackson Reagan hopefully coming back next week for the next match,
Jordan Morris is hopefully on his way back as soon
in the next few weeks.
Speaker 8 (03:02:41):
But no new injuries out of this three.
Speaker 3 (03:02:42):
Match road swing, So that's a that's a very very
big important part of it, especially since there was a
dangerous moment in the second half where Alex Roldan went
up and knocked heads. Yeah, it could have been really bad,
but but roll Don stayed in there. He was the
tough kid and the Sounders needed him certainly down as
they end up getting a one to one result down
there in Portland. I will say this season, when the

one week from this afternoon. Actually, because it's an afternoon
match at lumen Field, we're gonna have a late morning
pregame show. It is a twelve o'clock kickoff against FC
(03:03:45):
Dallas Sounders FC Dallas at lumen Field, Providence, Swedish. Prematch
show will start at eleven thirty am, so I guess
late brunch with the Sounders there on Saturday morning, twelve
o'clock kickoff right here, ninety three point three k JRFM.
You folks, you can also watch the match on MLS
Season Pass on the Apple TV app and listen in
Spanish leg Whiche on l RA thirteen sixty. It's a
(03:04:07):
Dallas team that you know, I think for the Sounders
right now, it's a Dallas team that's still figuring out
who they are it's a Sounder team that is going
to have a full week off and some interesting questions,
you know, coming off of the rotation this week, Pete
of do you start now for sure? Ryan Kent over
Paul Rothrock. Is Pedro de la Vega now going to
be the.
Speaker 8 (03:04:27):
Guy on the right.
Speaker 3 (03:04:28):
So is the lineup for the Sounders now kind of
set in where it's you have Russknack in the middle
of Kent and dla Vega, with Mazowski of top, Christian Obed,
Alex k New in the outsides of Jamar and kim Key,
he Stephan Fryan Gole.
Speaker 6 (03:04:47):
Right now, that.
Speaker 3 (03:04:47):
Would scream a very obvious starting lineup, But maybe it's
not that easy for Brian Schmitzer. But but it seems
like we've kind of seen these three games who the
quality players can be. But maybe Paul Rothrock slides back
in there.
Speaker 4 (03:05:01):
I don't know, Well, you know who your goal is,
you know you're back four, you know your middle two
with Christian and Obed, you know, Albert and Danny, and
then when Jordan comes back, we'll see how that shakes out.
I imagine that probably gets the nod to Jordan. But
but the wingers, I like Ryan Kent. I didn't think
he was as active today. I thought Paul Rothrock really
put himself in some good spots, was creative, and he's
(03:05:23):
got a grit, you know, and that again I might
have said it. I think, you know, he probably wanted
to start this game, which would be three in a row.
He's young enough and got enough grit and bite to
handle that. But I thought he did enough to be
in consideration over Ferrera over Pedro for starting on the
on the wing. So, but that's coach's decision. Yeah, we
(03:05:44):
know most of them, but the question is the wingers.
Speaker 2 (03:05:47):
Yeah, it is Brian's decision.
Speaker 5 (03:05:49):
But if I listen to this show right now, if
I were, if I were in that group of players,
I would feel very I would feel very good that
I had a chance to take a position. There's still
some positions to be taken. Interested the seasonally, well, the
wide players for sure. I mean, we've got some very
(03:06:10):
exciting players that can play out right wide.
Speaker 3 (03:06:12):
We've got you know, uh right back Klon versus Alex
should be I think that's a battle.
Speaker 5 (03:06:18):
Yeah, maybe, But I mean getting getting I mean the
thing that we were just talking about and getting forward
and getting goals and getting goals consistently, which is going
to take us up the table and all that kind
of stuff. I think we've got you know, uh, Georgie,
and we've got roth Rock, and we've got Kent.
Speaker 18 (03:06:34):
Uh.
Speaker 4 (03:06:38):
You have to produce exactly.
Speaker 5 (03:06:39):
Well, That's what I'm saying is that everybody has the
opportunity once you start producing. And I can tell you
the person that's healthy and inform is the one that
Brian's going to be playing and starting.
Speaker 4 (03:06:49):
Yeah. If you're if you're getting your crosses in and
their quality. Yeah for me on the back the right
Klawanne is I like him? Excuse I like him. I
think Alex has he has much more experience than much.
I'm not saying it's like a fifty to fifty nice
that you have him in case you need it.
Speaker 8 (03:07:06):
Yeah, Colonne, I think is just pushing Alex.
Speaker 4 (03:07:08):
Yes, that's agreed.
Speaker 3 (03:07:09):
That's that's kind of the point I'm making, Like, just
like I think Georgie is pushing those other guys. I
think all of these are just position battles right now.
But to change, I think you make a really good point,
and I think it goes back to the pregame show
where we talked and it was you know, Ferrera was
my player to watch, and it's like, at some point, buddy,
I know you're getting some assists, but we brought you
into score goals and we haven't gotten the goals yet
from Hasu's Ferrera. And today I need to see more
(03:07:31):
runs when you tuck in with Alex getting up the
field and running into the box and being gold dangerous.
And I didn't see that enough from Haesu's Ferrara. And
it's because of that and the lack of gold production
that you know, listen, I get it the deal to
get you here Seattle two point three million dollars. But
right now I look at Pedro de Levega, and I
look at Ryan Kent and what Ryan Kent has been
(03:07:51):
producing over the last couple weeks, and I say, I
don't see a spot right now for Haesu's Frera in
the starting lineup.
Speaker 7 (03:07:58):
Yeah.
Speaker 5 (03:07:58):
I mean, it's difficult, and it's going to change, and
it's going to have its ebbs and flows is where
how players are playing and everything. But I mean when
we're talking about the wide players now, but Jordan's going
to be coming back pretty soon and as well as
Musofsky's playing. I would guess because of Jordan's status and everything,
(03:08:18):
he's going to be coming back and coming into the
starting lineup. The one thing that's exciting though, if I
was the coach, is that I've got two players that
can play that front position that are totally different. Yeah,
They're very different, and so you can play them in
different games, different ways and get two different results out
of them, and they can both be positive.
Speaker 2 (03:08:40):
Right, So yeah, get in.
Speaker 4 (03:08:42):
Hopefully you can get Dave Rosario a little bit of
a sniff and get you know, he did so well
with the Defiance team. So yeah, it's an interesting scenario
right now. For here's the deal though, We're fourteen games in. Yeah,
there's only twenty games left. Yeah, I can't when I
look and see nearly halfway there. Yeah, and Vancouver, by
(03:09:03):
the ways on thirteen games, and they are top of
the table big time. But it's starting to get to
that point where, like I said, they know most of
the positions and then and it really does come down
to I mean, you and I played with together and
we had a game where we beat the Santos Earthquakes,
but Chris Henderson was behind me, ahead of me, and
(03:09:24):
Branko Le two national team guys that were off with
the national team. And so the next game because we
got you got two goals, I got an assistant in
a goal. Maybe we started that. I came out pretty
quick for Chris right because he was you know, Chris
Anderson right. But but in other words, coaches will reward success.
Speaker 6 (03:09:41):
That's what I'm saying.
Speaker 3 (03:09:42):
