That's what happened with can Dorsety gettingfired by the Buffalo Bills. Russell and

And we were at a great eventlast night. It was really fun.
Puck was there, Jim was thereand kind of a who's who oft sports

(05:25):
going away. Congratulations, Congratulations HilarryStone on a great career, forty four
years in the business and twenty sevenat the Seattle Times. He had a
retirement party, and man, wesaw some great familiar faces, guys like
Kirby Arnold and Jim Street, BobFinnegan, all just incredible baseball scribes during
the time. And you know thenothers that aren't incredible, like Tim Booth.

(05:47):
Oh we loved Tim Booth. Ilove you, I love both Shot.
I'm fun to meet some of oursome guys spouses. Big shout out
to Kmart Kevin Martinez. I didbuy you a beer. Let the record
show, even though Jerry Brewer broughtyou your first one. Why why are
we buying Kevin Martinez beers? I'masking myself out loud right now. You
know, maybe he buys a lotin return, maybe he does No,

(06:12):
it was yeah, okay, butnow it's on the record. That's why
you're doing it. You have iton my well, Actually you'll love this
story. Before we get to humillIn in a second. So we go
there and and everyone's kind of gatheredaround, and I go, I'll get
another beer. And then my wife'sdriving. This is good. I don't
have myself a cocktail. And herewe go. Walk up. I go,
okay, mar you want to yeah, get okay beer? Walk up.
Jerry Brewer's up there, and Jerrygoes and he ordered one, and

(06:33):
he goes, just get whatever youguys want. I'm geting one for k
mart. I'll get all three ofthem. That's nice, you know,
all evens out like we'll get eachother later on. And then Brewer goes,
just tell tell Martinez you bought it. I go, you know what,
I can't do that? There's Ihave. I don't have a lot
of things in terms of ethics andmorals. Some days. You know what
I have? I have beer ethicstbeer and actually, better way to put

(06:55):
it, beer integrity. I've gotbeer integrity. But a shout out to
everybody, what a great night. And Larry Stone is just going to be
so missed at the newspaper and uhyeah he he had a hell of a
career. Man. I think ifwe could all be as well respected and
well thought of as he was byguys in the organizations that you covered,
as well as your peers. We'reall doing something good. So CONGRATU Larry

(07:15):
and a hell of career. Ithink he's on with Softy today as well.
I do believe. Oh good.Yeah, well because he doesn't work
there anymore, so now I cancome on exactly. So there you go.
So I heard Pucking Jim today talkingabout this about Geno Smith, and
it makes it as perfect because wewere planning on doing this anyway, we
have some I love leftovers. Idon't know, do you like leftovers?
I love leftovers. I think sometimesthey're better than the first moistmaker sandwich.

(07:39):
Yeah, just yes, the leftovers. I'm a big leftovers fan. I'm
a mass producer of meals. I'ma meal prepper. Okay, so we're
the same way. At my house. My wife always goes, yeah,
you're making so much. I go, I know. But then that way
we're you know, we got lunch, we get this and that. Hell.
I just spend fifteen dollars on adamn salad today when I had to
drive in. So yeah, I'drather have leftovers. Yeah, this isn't

(08:00):
really a left door. It's morelike a main course because it's Hugh Millin
and this hasn't been aired yet.It has not been aired yet because somebody
asked, yesterday we when you gonnabe the longer form with Hugh Millon.
Well, we did it yesterday.I save this and I thought it was
interesting because Puck talked about the passattempts for Gino Smith versus Russell wils Russell
Wilson's high pass attempts per game ina season for a Seahawk was thirty four.

(08:20):
Gino Smith at thirty three right nowseems like a lot, doesn't it.
Now? The NFL has evolved. But man, you're trusting Gino to
throw the same amountumber passes or almostas many as Russ in his prime.
They're not the same quarterback. Imean, as much as a lot of
us me don't like Russ personally andwho and what he is turned into hell
of a quarterback, hell of aquarterback when he was in his prime in

(08:41):
Seattle. I don't think Gino's atthat level. But I want to know.
Hughes thoughts after the game on Sundayand just overalls were nine games into
the season, just passed the midwaypoint of a seventeen game schedule, about
where he stands and what the reportcard says. What do his quarterback guys
tell us about Geno Smith? Well, I would start with this, this
is just my assessed and how Iwould answer that. First of all,
there's only two guys in the entireorganization that have a win loss record,

(09:05):
the head coach and the quarterback, and so I think you always frame it
a game like that in terms ofdid you win or lose the game?
I mean, the best game I'veever seen a quarterback have in a loss
was Josh Allen in a playoff gameagainst the Chiefs, and he was magnificent.
Yet somehow he got Mahomes out outdid him, and so I would

(09:28):
give him an A. But generallyyou have to take the context of did
you win or lose, so thatalready you know upset a grade. I
would say, if you've taken thesecond half and and counting the drives and
being able to execute two you know, one month eight minutes to go to
go down and go ahead by atouchdown, and then the game winning field

(09:50):
goal, you know, all ofthat would be a Everything after halftime was
a But you can't forget what happenedprior to that. Had they lost,
it'd be a different grade. ButI would say, to answer your question,
I would give him a B plus. But if you're talking first half,
you know, see, you know, probably a C. I don't

(10:11):
even know if I could go Cplus. So so there was issues.
I mean, you know, hemissed, he missed a post route to
Tyler. That that all quarterbacks inall meeting rooms, when you have a
post you always say, flatten theball. Quarterback coaches hate it when Tyler,
you know, was lined up towardsthe Sea Hawks sideline on the right
side and he breaks in that ballshould have been pulling him all the way

(10:33):
to the middle of the field, towards the hash marks, and yet it
was way up high and outside tothe to the numbers. They're just you
know, Uh, DK had adeep crossing route where he had a chance
where he was late the the thirddown and four down in the red zone
where he threw it behind Charbonnet.Uh. Just inexplicable. Uh. It

(10:54):
would be like a wild pitch inbaseball. Yeah, and you know that
cost him per potentially four points becausethey kicked the field goal thereafter. You
know, he had you know, almost do an interception on screen pass.
So he just wasn't seeing There wasother things that that that he shows signs
of predetermining. But you know thatthat pasc that he had that he feathered

(11:20):
over the top of the linebacker toto uh to Tyler, that was probably
his best past the night when youconsider, you know, five minutes to
go in the game and a tiescore. Uh So he he had some
clutch throws and and and good decisionmaking. And now it was aided by
a lot of commanders being out ofposition, bad pass defense, and and
they you know, they're their numbernumber in passer rating, their twenty fifth

(11:46):
best defense in yards per game, the twenty ninth, and some other stats.
You know, they they rank betweenbasically twenty fifth and thirty second,
and a lot of significant categories thatthat commander defense so and shows up on
tape like whoa, that's that's that'seither a guy being rogue or bad coaching
or just something that you know, when when I watch Cleveland and Baltimore and

(12:11):
and how well they communicate and playoffand and pass off defense, I mean,
those are those are darn good teamsand and the commanders just you know,
like they look like the JV teamfor Baltimore. So so Gino's passer
rating is one to three point nine, very good, aided by a sixty
four yard short pass and run byKen Walker for being if we're being fair,

(12:33):
his quarterback rating was fifty point six. Right, I think he got
to say QBR GBR okay, QBRyes, sorry, yeah, yeahs everything?
Well, no it is I meanno, I think no. I
think just honestly, he's right becausebecause because people think, they think the
same thing passer rating as quarterback rating, so they're confused about that. Then
ESPN came in with their QBR andthey say, well, is that quarterback

(12:56):
rating? Well, if we usequarterback rating, then then then we're gonn
to confuse people on passer rating.Well wait a minute, I thought said
it's passerating. Yeah, but peoplecall it quarterback rating. It's just it's
confusing. So let's kay. Passerrating was one oh three point nine,
his QBR was fifty point six.Put that into context for us, Well,
what QBR does is, okay, you had a sixty four yard touchdown

(13:18):
passer rating, it doesn't matter ifit was you know, a bomb that
was in the air for sixty yardsand just went right, you know,
right over the top of the safety. One of the most gorgeous throws you
there, like for example, likewhat Geno had against the Saints last year.
But what QBR does is says, okay, what's the down, what's

(13:39):
the distance yards in the air?How difficult was it? It takes into
account the quality of the opponent. And so it's just a lot more sophisticated
matrix. What is it perfect? No, but I do believe it to
be. And by the way,I could tell you exactly what's in the
passer rating. I have the formulain my Excel, so at any time

(14:01):
I can give you a passer rating. There's only four you know, completion,
percentage, yards per tamp, touchdown, percentage, interception pretense. That's
the passer rating is is you know, it's like the difference between smart bombs
and dumb bombs. Remember in thein the wait in the in the Gulf
War, when Schwartz Coff would comeout and say, you know, watch
this chimney and then they dropped thebomb down like and then there's this and
then they're using the Iraqis are usingscuds. These dumb missiles. Like the

(14:24):
passer rating is dumb, well becauselike the smart is a smart smarter version,
because the passer rating. Anybody cangoogle passer rating and there's there's like
a million calculators in the website. It's yeah, it's pass attempts, completions,
yards, interceptions, right, Ithink, And it gives you those

(14:45):
four completion percentage yards per touchdown percentageand it goes in there. You can
when we do that, We everyone of us, the covers of game
does that during the game. QBRis like the Coca Cola formulae. We
don't know what it is. It'sthe Kentucky Fried chicken recipe. We I
know it's good. We just don'tknow what the hell's in it. And
they won't tell anybody, but I'vedone enough reading to know. Look,

(15:05):
you trust me or don't trust me. I by my way of analyzing,
QBR is a better metrics. Andat fifty point six, what does that
tell us? Well that if youwhat did if that was for a year,
that fifty point six would put youat twentieth in the league, so

(15:26):
below average. And what was whatwas the passer rating? One of three
point nine one of three point ninewould put you at fourth in the league.
If you did that for a year, the QBR for yesterday would put
you at twentieth. And by theway, Russell Wilson, now I haven't
upgrade, well he plays tonight,Russell Wilson. If you take the gap,
the distance between passer rating and QBR, Russell Wilson in twenty twenty three

(15:52):
is the number one gap. He'sgot the gap between passer rating, which
he's done high and everybody says, well, he's having a great year.
The gap between his passer rating andhis QBR is number one in the NFL.
Wow. Wow, I mean hewell, And that's why I bring
up with Gino, because I thinkRussell Wilson, by the way, is
twenty first in QBR this whole, but in rating, uh, he's fifth.

(16:18):
And so so what you had fromQBR yesterday, Uh is that Gino
as I said, he was ata pace to be twentieth where his passer
rating, what I say, wasfourth. Yeah, so I think it's
still a wait and see. Lookit's you're six and three. He you
know, he's he's he's an abovethe median quarterback. But let's let's see

(16:40):
what happens for the dur remainder ofthe year. As a Sea fan,
I just want him to do youknow, one or the other. What
is it, pooper, get offthe pot, ye vinch or cut bait.
Just give us something. Either you'rethe franchise guy and good you.
Let's give you the rest of yourcontract. I'm I'm down for that,
you know, take us deep intoplayoffs. Let's let's let's be let's let's
let's be playing in late January,or just reveal yourself, expose yourself to

(17:03):
a guy that can't be that, and then we can know we can move
on. And so I would sayyesterday was kind of a holding serve day.
I thought so too. That's whyI asked you, Hugh Ide that
way. We already know he's thatguy. We know that he can.
You know, he can have ayou know, a suspect half and then
put it together for a bit againsta well below average team. And he

(17:26):
can do that. But we knewthat. I think in the next five
weeks we're going to learn a lotmore about him. And if he's that
guy that makes everything easy, right, he makes everything easy, Okay,
we don't have to worry about aquarterback. It's good stuff from Hugh Millen
right there. I want to justupdate the because we did this tape this
yesterday, so now much has changed. Russell moved up a couple spots.

(17:48):
His QBR now is fifty two pointfive, but he's only nineteenth in the
league in QBR. Is Russell WilsonGino Smith slightly better. He's seventeenth in
the league fifty four point three inQBR rating. I'll ask you, just
because I know you don't have itup in front of you, is number
name like number one, two orthree? Not one, two and three
in QBR? Where are you getQBR right now? That entails the whole

(18:14):
season? Though, yes, okayit does ooh, one, two and
three? Just about three names?I don't okay. I'll give you Rock
Perty's number one. A man Partyis number one. Number two is Patrick
Mahomes. Number three is Dak Prescott. And here's the interesting one. Josh

(18:34):
Allen is number four is offensive. His OC just got fired today, but
his QBR does not necessarily reflect theirAnd I think that's why, Like you
said that, it's like the Cocacola recipe, we don't know what's in
it right, but obviously there's thingsin there that that factor in other players
being crappy. For example, myguy gave Davis having a ball go through

(18:56):
his hand, Dalton Kincaid having ballsgo through his hand and will end up
being interceptions yesterday, He's got eleventhis year. The number two in terms
of interceptions of the league amongst fulltime starters is Jordan Love with ten,
but his QBR is still good.Case in point with Russell. And this
is where I think is an interestingcomparison, Like you know what your QBR
compared to what your passer rating is. Russell's passer rating is right now,

(19:21):
people going what a great year he'shaving one oh four, And Hugh mentioned
the disparity. Look at this oneoh four his quarterback rating fifty two.
That's a massive, massive dip.Number one the league, by the way,
is seventy six, so he's youcan tell that's for a QBR,
big, big difference. Gino isinteresting because he's not that much of disparity
eighty nine to fifty four, soit's a little bit different. You know,

(19:42):
I think the Purty one is acurious one, one o nine to
seventy six. So like there aresome disparities in there, your guy.
Just for a little bit of context, here, Gardner Minshew's QBR is eleventh
in the league. I was justlooking at that, actually, I mean,
and these are the quarterbacks directly ahead. So Russell's nineteenth, eighteenth is

(20:03):
Joe Burrow, seventeenth is Gino Smith. This is all QBR. As you
said, this is a better indicatorof how quarterback's playing, A far better
indicator. Russell nineteen, Burrow eighteen, Gino seventeen, Trevor Lawrence sixteen.
These are some of the other quarterbacksahead of them. Okay, Baker Mayfield,
Josh Dobbs, Gardner Minshew, c. J. Stroud, and then

(20:26):
the rest all makes sense because they'reall guys like Alan Herbert, Pat PRESCOTTI
in the middle of the pack.Kind of makes sense. Yeah, but
he's in the lower he's below. Both those guys are having below average years
by QBR standards. So what wouldyou grade Gino Smith? What would you
give him for a seed that waskind of for yesterday's game or Sunday's game.
I'm curious for Seahawks fans. Andhe said, we got to know,
are you the guy or not?I'll ask you guys that four nine

(20:48):
four five one, and the tellmordo text I when it's game time.
It's telling time? Is Gino theguy? What do you think? You
can also send us a voice texttalk back Mike, iHeartRadio app, send
us a thirty second message. Andalso you can just give us your grade.
I asked. I asked these guysearlier, and I think they both
said B B plus for Gino sofar this season. I don't I don't
feel that I'd say maybe a Bminus. I say BB minus would be

(21:11):
mine. B B minus. Youknow he's on the cusp of this.
I just I looked at my textchain from a couple of friend groups I
had today watching the game on Sunday. Always amused as I'm watching covering a
game and getting those things. Ihad a lot of f's coming my way,
uh in terms of in terms ofGeno. So I'm curious what you
guys think. Four nine four fiveone. All right, big meruling,
big hearing, big court deal todayin Whitman County. Will tell you about

(21:32):
it next. Now back to thein for next show, brought to you
by Snow Call me Casino. Itis a cracking ticket Tuesday Sports Radio ninety

(21:53):
three point three KJRFM. When youhear the sounder today, be the tenth
collar every hour to win a pairof tickets the game against Calgary on November
twentieth, right here in your homewith the crack at ninet three point three
k R A family got a dailypower play coming up. But one forty
five. You haven't played in thesounder yet, have you? I have
not. You must keep listening,I know one. I probably need to
keep listening to know when you playit too, except for I can tell

(22:15):
when you play it even if Ihave something turned down in the commercial breaks.
Why because if you do play it, or if Anders was here and
he was playing it, I seethe scrambling there as the phones are ringing,
and you're like, you're the eighthcaller, the ninth collar. Oh
you're the tenth caller. There yougo. Is the worse feeling if you're
calling in and you hear Jess minor Anders or Jackson or Chris or Ashley

(22:37):
say your caller number nine? Isn'tthis ninety three point three? Yeah?
But it's collar ten? Yeah? But and also don't call now. I
see you guys calling in don't doit now. We're not doing it now.
It's when we play the sounder andwe're in the middle of a segment.
We're not gonna I'll give you ahint, at least on this show,
we're not going to play in themiddle of the segment. We might
play it right at the end ofthe segment. We might play it in
the middle of the next, mightplay it right in the middle of the

(23:00):
break. We could play it atat one point fifty Who knows. I
don't know. I have no idea. That's why it's fun. Jess is
in charge. I don't know howto push the buttons in there. She
does, so I'm a master buttonpusher, well both figuratively and literally.
So see, you can't say stufflike that when Andrews isn't here to counter

(23:22):
that. I I'll take your wordfor it, but I would have to
have his confirmation since I there aremany times when I hear the following,
I'll show you how to do it, Jessamine, Hey, I'm so worrying.
No, you're doing a great job. And where is he at today?
What the hell anders you get aday off? Yours is working so
many weekends that we had to givehim his Tuesday. Why are we why

(23:45):
Anderws you don't get days off.I don't get days off. Why do
you get days off? Fella? All right, we miss you today,
buddy, and Jesssemon's got a factorfiction pick in an hour's time as a
show. We need to rally becauseone of us did not make a good
pick yesterday, and that one ofus would be speaking as we as we
are here right now, that's notideal. I just checked with John Canzon
a nothing new. Attorneys are inthe courtroom waiting in Whitman County. Basically

(24:06):
today Judge Libby Libby Libby in WhitmanCounty is going to make a ruling on
whether or not Oregon State at WashingtonState are the control of the only two
voting members and controin the conference. And that's the finances in the conference.
That decision we made after a hearingwhich starts at two o'clock. We're probably
not expecting anything, according to Johntill later, but let's do this.

(24:29):
Let's let John cans On, hewas on with Puck and Jim earlier,
joins him every Tuesday at eleven o'clockand he sets up today's hearing. All
right, two pm. It'll bea hearing. Now. This is barring
an eleventh hour settlement, you know, and so I do think the sides
are continuing to talk. And Ithink if Judge Liby decides to hear this
case at two o'clock today, youknow, both sides are going to present,

(24:52):
and then the judge may issue anorder from the bench. He may
make his ruling there like in therestraining order phase, or he may decide
that he needs a day or twoto think about it. And you know,
the at issue here basically not toput everybody to sleep, but the
main issue is who's in charge ofthe PAC twelve conference right now. It's

(25:17):
paralyzed. Oregon State, Washington Statewould like to be the only voting board
members. They'd like control of theconference and its assets. The ten departing
schools certainly would like to stop that. They would just like to divide the
money now and go their separate waysand have control in the next few months.
But Judge Leby will likely issue rulingtoday or maybe tomorrow. He'll hear

(25:40):
the testimony at two o'clock from bothsides, all right, So that's coming
up in twenty five minutes is whenthat will start. John did mention the
you know, thought of a settlementmediation. I checked a little bit on
that, and I'm going to readthis verbatim from a source close last week
zero probus regress. Apparently the otherten made an offer in quotation marks in

(26:04):
most recent meetings that was laughable. So again this is from someone who's close
to it, close to the situation. Zero progress on mediation as of a
couple of hours ago. The otherten made an offer in most recent meeting
that was laughable. So they madethe other ten made an offer to obviously

(26:27):
Washington State and Oregon State. Thepart I find interesting is the other ten
made that offer, and that there'sten involved in this. How UCLA and
USC are involved is really beyond mebecause that's part of the crux of the
whole issue. Yeah, why theywere as soon as they decided to go
to the Big Ten, they didn'thave voting rights anymore in this conference,
and yet now they're back involved withthis. So maybe they're just passengers on

(26:48):
the train, you know, Idon't know. And there's so many dollars
involved here that that's the biggest thing. And let's get into that and then
we'll we'll wait and see what happenswith the hearing, but I think it's
important to kind of revisit this. It's a significant day on every side,
especially President Cassy at Washington said thatthis hearing, if it goes against Washington,

(27:11):
could cause a reparable harm to thestudent athletes and their mental health at
Washington, and that's what they careabout joining the big town. That's those
are those are her words, notmine. Those are her words, not
mine. I'm just pluck. Askedthe question regarding finances. Okay, so
to what's at stake here in interms of money here for Oregon State and

(27:33):
Washington State. When we've had youon, we've always talked about, you
know, a figure between one fiftyone hundred and fifty million dollars and two
hundred but that's for future that's notthis year. That's in like the future
years of the PAC twelve. Youjust mentioned this this money that's for this
year, which is about four hundredand twenty million dollars. Have you ever
got an indication maybe from the lawyersfrom Oregon State and Washington State or the

(27:56):
athletic directors and the school officials thatthey do want to pursue that four hundred
and twenty million dollars this year.Well, here's what I am told that
there's some pending litigation. Remember thePAC twelve fired the CFO and fired Mark
schuck In the head of the PACtwelve networks, and sort of put the

(28:18):
Comcast over payment fiasco on them. They filed a lawsuit. So there's a
pending lawsuit there that will have tobe settled. There's also the Comcast over
payments, and so you know,Oregon State and Washington State have a fiduciary
duty to set aside some money forthat, Like they don't know what the
potential liability can be, and theydon't want to have to go chase down

(28:40):
USC and UCLA six months from now, you know, year and a half
from now when that gets settled, and have to say, okay, well
you owe us, you all oweus two million dollars. Like, so
they're going to need to set asidesome money out of that four hundred and
twenty million. And it was interestingthat George KAYOFCOFF told me right after Orgon
and Washington left, I said, could they go after the whole four hundred

(29:03):
and twenty million? I wrote, about the war chest, and his initial
reaction to that was that the remainingmembers can absolutely dip into that money if
they feel like they have damages orthere are expenses that need to be rectified.
And I would just kind of wonderwould a you know, a fee

(29:25):
and exit fee for San Diego Stateand Colorado State and Boise State and Fresno
State, would those be justifiable expensesthat Oregon State and Washington State could keep
if they're going to keep part ofthat four hundred and twenty million dollars.
Man, what a mess, youknow, I mean, that is a
very kind word to use for itall. Yeah, some good interesting stuff

(29:47):
with John. I think that thething that jumped out of me there is
this who is left holding the bagif there is more money to be paid
after the Comcast fiasco? Right,so that's it. John pointed out that
that comes into play as well. Can't they sue whoever was in charge of
the whole situation? Well they firedthem all. It was you know,
Mark Schucken and others. But it'sit's right, they're not holding any bags,

(30:11):
no, they it's but the moneywas paid back by the entire conference.
There might be more money Thans owed. And if the conference is only
two teams and those two teams don'thave any money because the other ten took
it on a way out, thenI was doing Oregon State, who are
already really behind the eight ball orscrewed even more. I most people you
know that I've heard from think AndI talked to an attorney today who is

(30:34):
not affiliated with either school probably abouthis objective down the middle may even lean
more purple, obviously, And thisisn't, you know, an Apple Cup
trial by any means, But itis Oregon State, washingt State against the
other's ten Washington's lead because it's intheir state, in the state of Washington.
But this person told me, hejust he said, it feels as

(30:56):
if the two have a stronger casethan the others. But it's going to
I'll just I'll wrap it up withthis and we'll wait and see what happens
later today. This will go along way in determining what the future or
lack thereof, of athletics at thetwo land Grand schools in the Northwest is.

(31:17):
It's it's really as simple as that. You want to talk about a
reparable harm, not to blame peopledo what's best for you, But whether
or not they're able to sustain themselvesremains to be seen. They need that
money and we'll see if they getit later on Today, I'm so god,
I'm just so It kind of makesyes a little bit, doesn't you

(31:38):
know. I'm just so sick ofit. I'm so sick. I'm just
so disenchanted with everything in the sportthat I absolutely just love. I'm just
so sick and tired of it.I'm sick of nil. And yes,
I'm not saying I'm sick of thekids getting money. They should be compensated.
But I read a story today onkoog Fan and it's like, why

(32:00):
are they? Why are and we'lltalk about the guys at the top of
the hour. Why are they wherethey are right now? Well, it's
because guys leave, right And whyare guys leaving? Well, either they
don't like the playing time, theywant a better situation, or they're leaving
for nil money. You know,it used to be hard. You made
a decision, you made a commitment, you go to a school. It
used to be easier to do soand stay there and harder to just up
and quit and leave. But everythingwe do now is just about the almighty

(32:22):
buck. There's something about competing forit. Well, no, there's something.
There's got to be something about competingfor your school, competing for playing
time, and you know in collegefootball, you know when Washington won the
national championship in ninety one, Icovered that team on a weekly basis for
Koma. Was there every week. And one of the cool things was is
I watch guys that came into theprogram as freshmen, the class that included

(32:45):
guys like Empman, Lincoln Kennedy,Mark Brunel, that group, right,
and I watched them stay through fouror five years. It's cool like they
developed there as players on campus. Now, every team that's is doing it
through the transfer portal. If you'rea quarterback and you go commit to some
place as a freshman, more thanlikely you're going to transfer because they're going

(33:06):
to bring somebody else in. This'sgot experience at the w D one level
and is going to play ahead ofyou. It's just it's just it's just,
you know, I don't know,I mean, I digress, I
just I just I'm just kind ofI guess I'm I'm worn out with the
whole thing. I'm just worn outcompletely, agree completely, it's exhausting.
And then the one thing I lookat too is I look at guys like
r. J. Stone and BrennanJackson and you know Ronard Bell who graduated

(33:30):
last year, and I'm like,I'm so proud of you for staying the
whole time. When that used tobe in ANAMA or that was the rule,
not the exception. Now it's theexception. It shouldn't be something we
sell, it shouldn't be something somethingwe celebrate. So but we do.
All right, Uh, one thingwe're not celebrating our local hockey team.
Not good. Right now, we'lltell you what's going on with them.

(33:50):
Coming up next, Balkin shoots onein on gold a clutch and they stop.

(34:30):
It's Crosby Cold Drop Star. Thisis the daily power Play deep Slock
one timer. M Kenneth now Ianfernaz Son Sports Radio ninety three point three.
We've been waiting for k j rf M Daily power Play every day

(34:53):
here on your home for the crackin ninety three point three. kJ R
f M. Baker, are youlistening, Jeff Baker, Jeff Baker,
Paig, Jeff Baker, my buddy. I like Jeff. I like Jeff
a lot, Jeff, are youlistening? I read your story. What
do you mean No one's talking aboutthe kracking on sports radio. We do

(35:15):
it every day at one forty five. I would love to get Dave Hackstall
and or Ron Francis on our show. But you know what, those guys
are always on our morning show, which is also sports radio, so they're
talking hockey on sports radio in themorning. I hear our guy in the
afternoon, Dave Softy Maller and DickFaine. They've got guys on all the

(35:37):
time. Al Kinisky does hits onthe morning show. Anyway, I read
the story like, no one's talkingsportl about the cracking on sports radio.
Well, I can't speak for theother guys across the street. I do
know that I don't think one ofthem knows what a hockey puck is or
the difference between a hockey puck ora field hockey stick and a hockey stick.

(35:57):
But that's fine. But on thisday, shitt' you a home for
the crack and we talk hockey. We absolutely do. Let me do it
every day. Unfortunately, unfortunately we'retalking about a team that is not good.
They just lost their second straight athome. They took a one nothing
lead last night against Colorado and thengot five scored on them and the second
and third periods combined. I'm goingto push people towards a show tonight that

(36:22):
we call What's Cracking. It's onFox thirteen tonight at seven thirty pm.
There's no games on, so whereyou go, turn it on. I
will have analysis, we will havea breakdown, we'll have a little round
table. My guy John Barr fromSound of Hockey's going to join Curtis and
I out at the thirty two barand grill. There is a lot to
discuss. The question I'm gonna askthose two is this it's very softy like,

(36:47):
what's your level of concern? Okay, when you said very softy like,
I was really wondering where you're it'swhat's your level of concern with this
with the local NHL team? Whatis your level of concern? I bring
that up, and is it afair question? The green? Is it
yellow? Are we reaching orange?Have we got to red yet? Where
are we in terms of concern?I think we're I think we're looking I

(37:09):
would say my level of concern ishigh orange right now. But we'll break
it down tonight for you. Thelast last. First of all, they're
they're not good at home again. What Jeff wrote in all seriousness, there's
a there's a point to it,and I think it's true, like you
can't keep losing these opportunities to capturethe sports audience in our market. The

(37:32):
Huskies are going to go play inthe Pac ten champ Pack twelve championship game.
They're probably going to play for antwell, they'll have a chance to
play for college football playoff. They'regoing to play in a massive bowl game
one way or the other. TheSeahawks are trending towards being a playoff team
again. There's a chance our baseballteam will do something in the offseason to
get people excited and fired up forthe start of baseball season. There's a
chance you're the hockey team you're tryingto Sounders are back in the playoffs again

(37:54):
as well, they're already passed thefirst round. There's a challenge in this
market for the for the sports dollar. And I'm being serious here when I
talk and just write in his story, there's a challenge for the sports dollar.
There has to be a sense ofurgency for this hockey team, this
organization. You had all this momentumafter the playoffs last season and you've done
nothing with it. And I'm nottalking necessarily about the front office. I'm

(38:15):
talking about the guys on the ice. Be better. It's the same damn
team. You replace one defenseman inyour fourth line. If you're telling me
a fourth line that plays an averageabout eight and a half minutes a night
is that damn important to your success, then those top three lines should not
be getting top three line minutes, because that's a problem. If Ryan de

(38:36):
Aam, Morgan, Geeky Sprong,if those guys are that important to your
team, where those guys are thatimportant to your team, then there's a
big problem with the guys up top. Matty Benier's wake the hell up,
be better. Stop playing timid, get aggressive, play harder. I think
it's as simple as this, Jess. I went back and I was talking

(38:57):
to John and Curtis about this aswe got ready for our show. If
you look back at the hits, knocking the opposing player off the puck,
creating a turnover, possibly a scoringchance on a ford check, et cetera,
playing physical hockey doesn't mean dropping themitch just playing hard, physical hockey.
There were games last year they hadforty five fifty two hits. Last

(39:20):
night they had eleven. That doesn'tsound as physical as previous games. That
is really really bad and it shouldbe embarrassing. It's not on Hack,
it's not even on Francis. Theydidn't do anything in the offseason. I

(39:42):
get that they didn't need to.The core was there. Be better as
a team. Take advantage of this. This town wants to love you and
embrace you, and they want toget excited about you. There is nothing
to get excited about. When youget boat raced at home. That's just
not good enough. It just isnot good enough. You have too many
new fans coming to the building andyou come out and lay an egg on
a Saturday night. I think wherethe O four and one or something on

(40:05):
Saturday night games this year at home, it's not great. It's awful.
Yeah, be better, let's gobe better. Doesn't get easier, by
the way, to go to Edmontontomorrow and Oilers win in the coaching debut
of Knoblock last night knocked off theIslanders. So it doesn't get easier because
at some point they're going to wakeup. Let's crack at tonight seven thirty
check it out. Alison Lucan's onwith us in studio as well, so

(40:27):
check that out tonight seven thirty afterSalesports Live All Football at seven Speaking of
football coogs talking Koog's the Legends. This won't be any more positive. This
segment is coming, actually it will. You know why, MK is always
positive, you know what? Andalso fun. We can at least have
fun. Bill Jonas next
