All over there. We start Mollytoday. It's the final week of the
regular season. We started doing this. Uh, God, Nate, what
is it? We're coming up onwhat eighteen months ago? Is it two
years? Yet? We've been doingthis thing. It's been a while,
right, Why does Nathan? Whydo February twenty twenty one, twenty two,
(04:15):
twenty one, twenty one, Idon't know, Yeah, twenty one
for one big long year. Twotwenty weeks. Yeah, two thousand and
twenty one. We started doing this, and I will just I'm gonna start
on a little quick of a personalnote if I can, just I appreciate
these two guys more than you guyscan know listening right now, because you
know, in our world of sportsradio, sports media, and especially when
you're doing various different things, it'shard to always keep track of things.
(04:40):
And you know, prioritize, butno matter what, I can always count
on these guys every Monday, andsometimes on a Friday, and sometimes on
a Wednesday, and sometimes on atrade deadline calling Chris Crawford and saying I
need you on the year in thirtyseconds, uh and uh. And I
can count on these guys like youcan't believe. I'm so grateful that Kevin
brought us all together. Shout outto Ryan Divish and a couple of others
(05:00):
who kind of recommended these guys, which was probably become as a surprise to
many, but that is true. And we've been doing this for a while.
The first year we did every otherweek. Last year we did every
week, and we said we'll justdo it until baseball is not relevant anymore
in terms of the season. Well, we've had three relevant seasons to do
this. They've been in the contentionevery week. And I appreciate this segment
(05:20):
more than you guys know, eachand every Monday, and I do appreciate
that. With also that being said, there is real life that comes into
play, and a shout out toChris. His mom passed away yesterday and
we got a text yesterday and hesaid, you know, obviously a massive
emotional deal for him and his family, and he says, I still want
(05:41):
to come on the show. I'llspeak for you so you don't have to
do it, but I still wantto come on. I still want to
come on and do the show.He said his mom was really proud of
him doing this, and you knowwhat, that makes it awesome for me
too as a host, really awesomebecause that means a ton to me and
I'm sure to Nate as well andto our listeners that she appreciated what you
were doing. She was proud ofwhat you were doing. You guys have
(06:04):
said it many times, coming onthis station, a station you listen to
growing up like I did listening toRaws and Gas and New York Vinny and
Michael Knight in the morning, andyou know, the sports Baby and all
those legends on this station and thisjuggernaut. I think we all kind of
feel special responsibility to be on here, especially for our listeners. So Chris,
I'll give you a second. I'llstart with Nate in a second,
(06:26):
but I'll give you a second. But I just I do appreciate it coming
on today, Buddy, Well,I mean, I appreciate all those kind
words. I appreciate everybody who's reachedout. It's it's been overwhelming, but
she loved listening to me do thisshow. Her and Grandma would go over
and listen together. So this meansa lot, and thank you for those
kind words. So we do thisone for mom. Nathan, we will
(06:48):
start with you with opening statements.I'll try to lighten the mood a little
bit. Dick Fain says, somepeople are jumping off the bend wagon and
not to jump back on. Isthat you, sir? You know what
I guys saw that tweet. I'djust like to say, so apparently I
give up on the Mariners, whichis really interesting since I keep showing up
here every single Monday to do thisshow. So that's a very interesting thing.
(07:10):
What I'd love to know is,you know, you can't actually be
a Mariners fan if you spent anyof the last off season saying things like
I am so glad the Seattle Marriersare not like the Texas Rangers who are
just wasting all of that money signingall those free agents. And I'm sure
nobody at your station did anything likethat, but all there in the off
season because if they had boy wouldthey look dumb today as the Texas Rangers
(07:31):
are poised to quinch the American LeagueWest, which is the damn point of
this entire season, by the way, not to win a wins per Money
Spent Efficiency Award, and not totry to be some weird xerox copy of
the Tampa Bay Rays. So thatsaid, I would hope that it's very
clear I have not given up onthe Seattle Marriers, even though by all
(07:51):
and this is full stop, byall intensive purposes, their season should be
circling in the drain right now.The Houston Astros had nine games against the
Kansas City Royals and the Oakland A's, and had they just gone five and
four, this would be pretty muchover. They went two and seven against
the teams that the Mariners are eighteenand two. The only reason the Mariners
(08:13):
are in this position is because theycan beat the Kansas City Royals and the
Oakland A's, and the Houston Astroscannot. Because of that, all they
have to do is win two outof three in this series. That's all
they gotta do. Man, theyjust got to win this series. They've
had these guys numbered all year.I know that this team hates the Houston
Astros, both on an individual andan organizational level. I know they would
(08:35):
love to sink their season in frontof the home crowded team mobile so as
fired up and as frustrated and asemotional as today is. You know what,
man, you just gotta win twoout of three. Go out,
you got your ace on the hilltoday. Go beat Justin Verlander. He's
eighty five years old, he's gotnothing. So let's go win a game,
let's go win a series. It'sall there for him. You can't
(08:56):
ask for much more than that, either, Castile versus Verlander on a Monday,
the last week in September. ForI mean what, I mean,
what more could you ask for?A Chris Opening statements sir? Yeah,
I mean, like what kind ofgift basket should we be sending the Athletics
and Royals? Man, Like oneof those good ones too, like that
has like no chocolate bark or anycrap like that. We have to send
them like a nice one that haslike the peanut butter bears and stuff like
(09:20):
that, because we owe them somuch. And hey, look, the
Mariners looked bad in that three gameseries against the Rangers. Pretty much throughout
it. I will give them creditthat I do think they showed some fight.
I think they should fight when Ifell down eight nothing and got back
into this game. I think theyshould fight on Sunday when they were down
pretty big and got back into thisgame. I also think that the Texas
Rangers bullpen is absolutely ten pounds ofcrap in a five pound bags. So
(09:43):
we have to thank them as well. But just be appreciative, folks.
Just be appreciative of the fact that, yes, okay, the Seattle Mariners
have blown in opportunity to probably winthe Als. That ship has probably sailed,
but you still have a chance tomake the postseason for two years in
a row. And nobody's giving upon this team. If you think people
are giving up on this team, you gotta go to touch some grass because
you're plaking Twitter. Ray too seriously, just way too seriously. That's not
(10:09):
real life, Dick, That's notreal life. Anybody who was saying that
this is uh, they're giving upon the team. Everybody's going to be
there in Seattle cheering the heck outof this team, and they still have
a golden opportunity even though they probablydon't deserve it, let's go through.
Yeah, I mean it's the mathis simple for and I'll just not every
listeners, you know, totally acuteup to date on what we're looking at.
(10:30):
But it's pretty simple. Texas hasa three game lead over Seattle.
We have seven games left to go, and it's actually more like four because
they have a tiebreaker. So andHouston is two and a half games back
at Texas or a half game aheadof Seattle in the battle for the last
wild card spot. So this isthe series. It means everything, Nate,
simple math tells me, like youjust said, you take two out
(10:54):
of three, you're in really goodshape. Yeah, you're two games up
in the lost column. And likeyou just said, the reverse applies to
them losing that tiebreaker with Texas.Well, they've got the typebreaker against Houston.
So if you win two out ofthree in this series, you're essentially
three games up with Houston only havingthree games to play, And like,
that's not mathematical certainty, but itis very much mathematical probability. If you
(11:16):
win two out of three in thisseries, you are probably going to go
to the playoffs. So it's hardlike this series is it Like it's weird
that it's it's I think we're allkind of gearing up and hoping for this
big push this coming weekend for adivision title against Texas, and like Chris
said, that's probably not happening atthis point. But like, man,
this is the team's biggest rival, and I think the Astros kind of view
(11:39):
the Mariners as a rival at thispoint after the last couple of years.
They like to pretend that that's nota big deal. Well, guess what,
you just crap the bed even worsethan the Mariners this month, So
now your rivals staring you in theface. It's all down to these three
games. Ian Chris, I'm lookingat the numbers that also tell me this.
We've been talking about this for awhile. There's basically four teams,
(12:00):
three spots. One of those wouldbe the AL West winner, So Texas,
Toronto, Houston, Seattle one.One team is going to be the
odd team out, probably safe tosay, the winner of this particular series.
I guess it would help if ifif if Houston wins two of three,
then it's still very much a crapshoots you don't wins two of three.
Is Nate mentioned, it's over.Is this the good news right now?
(12:20):
And I'll throw this at you,the fact that Toronto is probably gonna
lock down that number two wild card. That means Seattle gets Minnesota in the
first round if they can just winthe series against the Houston Astros. That's
a good thing, isn't it.It's it's I should say it's. It's
better than it's not a great consolationprize. Nate mentioned it. I think
(12:41):
I'm with you, Nate. Winningthe division should be what it's all about.
That's that's what it should be.But the consolation prize is to get
Minnesota in the first round. Chris, Yeah, absolutely, and then you
know afterwards probably playing the whoever winsthe division is probably gonna be Baltimore at
this point, you know, Ithink that is a nice little consolation prize.
Of Course you want to win thedivision. Of course you wanted to
(13:03):
have that buy. Of course youwanted to guarantee yourself two home games.
But that's a nice little I'd certainlyrather be the sixth than the five.
And I really hope Baseball fixes this. I also hope Baseball fixes the fact
that, like take a look atthe National League wild Card, the Mariners
are in the postseason if not forthe fact that they're in the American League
instead of the National League. It'sdumb. It's so dumb that we determine
(13:24):
stuff like this. It should alljust be the very best teams make the
postseason. It shouldn't be based ongeography, it shouldn't be based on the
leagues that were put together in seventeensixty three or whatever the heck it was.
It should be based on the verybest teams make the postseason. And
the Mariners are going to be betterthan every team that makes the playoffs in
the National League in terms of thewild card except for the Philadelphia Phillies.
(13:45):
They are absolutely better than the fiveand the six whoever will end up in
that spot. But yeah, thatis a nice little consolation prize. I'd
much rather play Minnesota than I wouldhave to go play in Tampa Bay,
So yeah, a nice little consolation. Well, and to what just said
to just to add on to that, we kind of talked about this before
in previous weeks. If they canget in, I mean I kind of
mentioned too. I think this team'sroster is better built for the postseason than
(14:09):
it is the regular season. There'sagain, look at the American League,
man, like, there's some goodteams and everything, but I guarantee you
that there is no team in theAmerican League that wants to play a roster
that's going to throw the lease CastioGeorge Kirby and Logan Gilbert and it has
JP Crawford, cal Rawley and JulioRodriguez set up to go against him.
Because that is the strength of thisteam. They are top heavy. They
have legitimate stars and elite talent. It's just not one. They don't have
(14:31):
the depth to go one hundred andsixty two games with the best teams in
the sport. Chris, what's theproblem lately? Besides the fact that you
know, Texas decided to be goodat this past weekend, But what what
what concerns you over the next sevendays as they try to maneuver their way
into the postseason somehow. Still thebiggest concern for me is that forty percent
of these starts are being made byBryce Miller and Brian wou Like that is
(14:54):
both those guys just absolutely you knowwhat the bed in these last two starts,
they got absolutely their clock and they'regonna have to probably face those teams
again. I don't know what thematters might make, some maneuvers with the
rotation and stuff like that, butthere's neally with no off days coming up,
there's no avoiding this. They aregoing to have to play out this
straight and Look, there's been someissues with lineup depth, there's been some
(15:16):
issues with bullpen, there's been someissues with Scott's service making, some questionable
at best decision making. But ultimatelywhat it comes down to is three out
of your five starters are good. Two out of your five starters are unproven
rookies who are inconsistent at best. Are they just running out of gas?
Nate, Yeah, I mean Ithink that Brian Wood deserve some sort of
an award. That kid is everytime he takes the mound. Now,
(15:39):
not trying to be too hyperbolic, but I think there's moderate risk that he's
shortening his career at this point withevery start he's making for the rest of
the year on out. It's hardto overstate how far past the inning's limit
he really is for a player ofhis injury history and his track record of
innings, So for him to begoing out and the last three times out
(16:00):
really giving the team what they needis really heroes stuff. And then Bryce
Miller, it's so hard. Ihad this conversation with somebody the other day,
and you know, you have somuch talent in minor league baseball and
in college baseball and prep baseball atthis point, but the one thing that
you cannot prepare these kids for andyou cannot simulate for them is playing a
one hundred and sixty two regular seasonschedule and the grind that that that really
(16:22):
puts guys through. And I thinkthat Bryce Miller is just feeling it.
It's his first time through it.Man, you get into September, that's
you're really tapping empty for these guysthat haven't been through it before. It's
Molly wap Monday, brought to youby Simply Seattle Simply Seattle dot com.
They've got Molly Wopp fifteen at checkout. They've got a ton of Mariner

of fun stuff this week for thefinal week of the season, all at
(16:42):
Simply Seattle, Simply sail dot com. Again, Molly Wopp fifteen at checkout.
Chris, the pitching's one thing youkind of mentioned when you guys mentioned
there was Nate mentions. Yeah,so you go, you know, Julio
cal Rawley, JP Crawford. Ithink call nick Is is kind of getting
He's doing his part right now aswell. You know what, you know
what you're gonna get from Geno, you know what you gonna get from Tail.
(17:04):
But is does a lineup drop offtoo much at that point? Yeah,
one hundred percent. Like and look, ty Franz actually had a pretty
nice day yesterday. He had hemade some hard contact. It was nice
to see Aoheio made had a hugehit in that game last night. I'm
watching the replay right now because I'ma masochist. It's just the fact that
this team doesn't have Once we getto the bottom of that order, there's
(17:27):
just no one you can count out. And that's true for a lot of
teams, but it's just it's frustratingfor the Mariners because they talked so much
about depth at the start of theseason. They talked so much about how
much they love that depth, andthen you watched this team play in games
one fifty five, one fifty six, and the guys that were relying on
at the bottom of that lineup andIt's like, you're really talking to me
(17:48):
about depth, dude. You're reallytelling me that this is a deep major
league team that's built to win aWorld Series. Come on, man,
there's no way to take anything theysay seriously when they say stuff like that,
and you know, at least they'veat least somewhat admitted that the front
office made a mistake with the signingsthat they made at the season, But
they're gonna have to answer for thetrade deadline too, because the guys that
they traded for ain't helping you rightnow. Don Kin's own is not helping
(18:11):
you right now. Josh Rojas ain'treally helping you right now. Ryan Bliss
has a chance to help you inthe long term. Paul Sewald would look
awfully nice to extend that bullpen rightnow. And they didn't add another starting
pitcher and they didn't add another batSo that's the most frustrating thing. And
ultimately, long story short, toanswer your question, Yeah, the lineup
depth is a huge problem, dude. Look at look at the game on
(18:33):
Saturday where they got shut out.Everybody was so angry on Twitter, which
again is not real life. Andif you're getting real upset about making people
making people up on that place toin order to yell at him, you
probably should just log off and gotouch some grass, like Chris said earlier,
Buddy, that game on Saturday wherethey got shut out, they threw
out a lineup with Ty France,Dylan Moore, Sam Haggarty, Jose Gabaero
(18:55):
as their bottom five through nine, and you know what, it was like
kind of the best that they coulddo. And that's after, like Chris
said, they made a midseason tradeto show up their depth, playing the
Jerry Depoto hit from preseason when hetalked about the depth on this roster.
Baby, it is a freaking jokethat this is what they are running out
in a playoff chase. So whateverthat we've already talked about that, man,
(19:15):
it's just just it's hilarious. Aright, keep doing this trap,
Let's do this. We'll wrap itup. Some final thoughts, Nate when
we reconvene next week. Are wetalking about playoff game number one the next
day? Yeah? I think so. And I think it's because they're gonna
win this series. And I thinkthat it's because as much as I just
ran in about this front office,in this management, it's because this group
(19:36):
of players this season, I learnedmy lesson from last year, and as
close as I was giving up onhim this year, partially because Chris is
an undying flame of optimism and hopethat he's kept aliving the entire season,
but also because of last season,I learned to not doubt these players and
this group, this core group.Every single time they have their back against
(19:56):
the wall, they respond and theycome out and do what they have to
do to stay at So despite allof their flaws and all of their frustration,
I think they're gonna go out thereand they're gonna kick some ass in
this series. And I think they'regonna take it to Houston. I think
they're going to finish their season off, and I think that we're gonna be
talking about the playoffs in a week. I love it. I love it
same yeah, postseason, absolutely,I love it. I love it.
(20:17):
In the meantime, In the meantime, where can we find you? Naight?
Where can we find people tonight whenyou're when you're when you're down on
this team and kicking them all they'redown even if they win tonight? Where
can we find you? Yeah? When the Seattle Mariners wining forward to two
tonight and I give up on themagain on Twitter, like I do every
single day. That's where you canfind me on Twitter, slash x dot
com. If I write or recordanything, it'll be at a domanbeedlam dot

Topia sports Topia dot ioh it's reallycool stuff, a lot of great DFS
stuff. I can't recommend it enough. And of course my OI recapping every
single Seattle Mariner baseball game. We'lldo my very best to go live.
(21:00):
Obviously I've got some circumstances going onthat might prevent that, but I'll certainly
have a video and then just finally, love me mom, Well done,
buddy, Well done. Thoughts thoughtswith you, Chris, you and your
family man hang in there, andI appreciate you coming on today. Thanks
dude, Miley. Check it out, subscribe on YouTube for Chris. It's
great stuff. Hopefully he'll be ableto find find his way on there tonight.
(21:21):
If not, there'll be a recapthere at some point and we will
be celebrating I believe. I thinkI'm with you guys. By the way,
just for the record, I thinkI think this is a playoff team.
It's Houston. You can win twoof three. Thanks for coming.
Division might be a little bit ofa stretch, but the division is there.
Give me a fun weekend, funweek as well. That's it from
Mai WAP. We got hardcore footballHugh Melon coming up next your home for
(21:47):
the twelfth Man in the NFL proudlypresents hardcore football with Hugh Melon, brought
to you by West Hills Unto Plexand Bremerton fourteen brands in one location.
Now here's you with the in fornets on Sports Radio ninety three point three
kjr FM. All right, herewe go hardcore football, Hugh Millen joining
(22:07):
us. And it's a glorious day. When the Seahawks improved to two and
one get a win. The fansmade a difference yesterday. The defense stepped
up with need be not all thetime though Gino was good enough, and
the run game returned and stopping theruns pretty good. So a lot of
positives from yesterday's game. Hugh, how are you, my friend? I'm
doing well. As you said. The Seahawks were able to make us forget
(22:30):
about the Mariners for just a splitsecond. But it's so good to get
them back Entree on the winning sideof things. And you know, it
was a pretty dismal loss to thePanthers last year, giving up tour and
thirty plus yards rushing. So theykind of turned things around and played Seahawk
brand of football. Let's start there. Let's start right there on the defensive
(22:52):
side, stopping the run. Asyou mentioned last year, the Panthers,
you know, just gashed them yesterdayin terms of net rushing yard. They
had fourteen rushing plays for forty fouryards net rushing. The stats and the
numbers look good. Here, what'dyou see? Well, I think it's
interesting if you look at kind ofschematically how they played. If you go
(23:14):
back to last year, I mean, how many times did you hear oh
the Seahawks play at three four right? Well, on all downs they were
at thirty seven percent, so theynever were even close to a majority.
But yesterday was the first day sincetwenty twenty one, counting all last year
(23:37):
where Seattle played zero downs of threefour Every single down they had just the
two defensive linemen and then the standup defensive ends, you know that being
Taylor mofe or no. And so, so that schematic difference. And then
they furthermore they were playing an overfronton most exclusively, so they've simplified what
(24:02):
they're doing schematically. They got JaredReid as as kind of like a nose
tackle in a four three, whichis the shade to the weak side of
the formation. You've got Draymond Jonesplaying the three technique on the strong side,
that's the outside side of the guardsto the tight inside. And they
lined up on that almost every singledown, and and so they know what
(24:25):
their responsibilities. Where you saw alot of run blitzes and seattle for the
game at twelve blitzes, but that'son passes by the red rifle. In
this case, there was a lotof other blitzes that actually turned out to
be runs. And when you say, what's the differ seeing a run blitz
and a and a pass blitz, because theoretically, when you call the blitz,
(24:48):
you don't know if they're going torun or pass. When you call
a run blitz, you're you're blitzinginto the and keeping all the gaps sound.
When you call a pass blitz. You're oftentimes trying to overload a certain
area on the front, and andand and so it's like the opposite of
a run B list. So Ithought there was real aggression. You saw
(25:08):
a number of times where where Brooksstepped up and just fired right away,
shooting gaps. But but I thinkthat that it's of note, at least
in my mind, that for thefirst time since twenty twenty one, they
did not play a single down athree four. And let me let's define
(25:29):
that real quick if we could,Hugh, because again you mentioned it like
the misnomer that some of the numbersare playing a three four. Even last
year for the majority of time, wasn't the case. When you say a
three four, you're saying three whatwe consider to be defensive lineman. So
let's just for arguments, say,get to give people a view with people
(25:49):
that they can kind of tang wild. Put a name in a phase two
that would be a three four forSeattle this year. Would look like two
outside linebackers, let's say mof andnew Osu, and then three guys on
the inside name say Read Jones andMario Edwards Junior. That would be their
their version of three four and thento what we would call stack linebackers,
(26:11):
if you like. In terms ofBrooks and Wagner. They didn't play that
defense at all yesterday, is whatyou're telling us. No, no,
no, they they only had twointerior defensive line you know, it's it's
a little bit of a semantics issue. But but the way they're identified for
purposes of personnel is ma fe andyeah. No, so they are playing
(26:38):
defensive ends even though they're labeled asoutside linebackers. They're playing a four man
front, right correct, you know, So, so it just it just
has to do with how the leagueidentifies them. But they play as as
as defensive ends all all day yesterday. So when we saw Devin Bush,
who started the game yesterday, soa third linebacker? Was he a third
(27:02):
linebacker? Was he a big washe playing big nickel? When we saw
when we saw Bush in there, you know often yesterday with Brooks and Wagner,
what was he playing? Yeah,he was just a strong side linebacker.
Okay, it was just a fourthI would just say it's a fourth
three, thank you. Okay,We'll wait a minute, okay, And
then it gets to back to whatwe said Nuoso Mafe and Taylor. Those
(27:25):
guys are playing defensive ends in that. You know, you can call him
whatever you want to call him.Rumpel's still skin. I'm just saying you
look at the front and yeah, time the times where Bush was in there,
he was playing four three And incidentally, they they started the game and
then out of the first I thinkeleven times eleven plays, they they were
(27:48):
in base defense, and then thenfrom that point on, on the start
of the second drive, they wentthey played bass the first two plays,
and then from that point on Clintheard it seen enough and they only played
base two other downs. The remainderof the game they played in Nickel,
the remainder of it after on thefirst drive playing it for like I said,
(28:15):
I think I'm six of the firstI don't. I don't have exact
game front of me, but theygot away from the base package. Let
me go back to that. Let'sjust go back though two when they do
have what would look like to thelayman and most of us, and you
know, outside of the terminology interms of how the NFL labels a four
man front, the two outside backerslooking like defensive ends, and then the
(28:37):
two defensive tackles or I'm sorry, two defensive linemen. That's will to speak,
whether it be Edwards, Read Adams, Draymond, what have you?
Rolling? Cameron Young rolling in thereright? All those guys. Okay,
why is that more effective or whydo they think that's more effective? Because
the numbers tell me they were farbetter against the run. They haven't far
better against the run. Probably ifthat type of defenses share well, it
(29:02):
doesn't make sense in some regard becausewhen they were playing that three four it
was generally what's called the bear defense, where you have the center and both
guards covered and you're taking three outof eleven bodies and just putting them right
in the middle and trying to stopthe inside run. Now they take one
of those bodies out of there, and in that what you could call the
(29:25):
guard box. We hear so muchabout the tackle box, but if you
just go guard box, there's alot of people who just teach, hey,
there's only a handful of categories offronts, and all you have to
do is look at the guard box. And the only defense that has three
guys in the guard box is thebear that they used to play when they
were playing three four. Now youhave the standard two, which is the
(29:49):
shade to the weak side, meaninga one technique on the center, and
then the three technique to the strongside, guard the side the side to
the tight and that's where you're generallyseeing Draymont Jones lineup, and those guys
are taken on double teams and they'redoing a good job of anchoring down.
Now it does allow them to havemore players at the second level. And
(30:15):
so with with with Bobby and withJordan Brooks now playing will linebacker what he's
accustomed to, and you've got anexperienced guy down also in the hole and
Uli Julian Love, I should say, down near the line of scrimmage.
He's usually what's called the sky coverage, which is the flat in the underneath
coverage. But but you got onelast defensive lineman. But you've got another
(30:38):
guy at the next level. Sothey they've they've thus far improved their run
defense and they're being able to doit with just a four man front,
but again simplifying. And then andone further point on that overfront, if
you'd have an underfront, which they'vedone in along let's say back when when
they had Red Bryant, Red Bryantwould be he would be head up on
(31:03):
the tackle on that strong side, and he wouldn't be. He was a
big body, not really a passrusher. When you do the overfront with
the personnel they have now when youslept both the defensive vans are in a
wide technique where they can get tothe quarterback. So in theory, if
you just drop it, drive upon the board with just a four man
(31:26):
rush, those guys that that overfrontshould be the best at unleashing the defensive
ends who as we've been discussing ouroutside linebackers again, Mafe and Nuoso and
Taylor primarily. That is hum illand hardcore football. We do it every
Monday. Now again if you're justjoining us, if you're new to this,
(31:47):
just because the constraints that we have, especially with the baseball team still
in contention, we have another almosttwenty minutes of hardcore football. It will
be podcast iHeartRadio app on our castpage on the website. We will tweet
and send out links later. Butif you're on the iHeart app, just
go to the Furness Show and youcan get all that. Because we talk
about Geno Smith, talk about therun defense, a little bit more.
(32:12):
Also the run game as a whole, stopping third downs. There's a lot
of meat left on that bone thatwe just can't get to in a two
hour radio show. But that's whythe beautiful thing is it's twenty twenty three
and all the kids listen to whatdo they listen to, Andrews. They
listen to podcasting. Yes, andwe have uninterrupted commercial free Hugh Milan on
the podcast. And that's awesome becausewe have to cut them off and say,
sorry, I gotta take a commercial. But by the way, we
(32:34):
gotta take a commercial, and we'lldo that right now, take a quick
break, comeback, Daily power Play, Cracking open open up the preseason tonight
with not one, but two games, a doubleheader and hockey you say,
no, more like a baseball splitsquad. We'll tell you about that next
ninety three point three k dfmaland theystop. It's Crosby. This is the
(33:00):
Daily power Play, Deep one timefish now Ian Furness on Sports Radio ninety
three point three k JR FM andDaily power Play. It's it's on.
(33:22):
Why is that? Well? Hockeyseasons here? What it's what? Ye
hockey season? It is? Tellus Morian we'll look outside. First of
all, look outside. That willtell you a that it's here. So
I'm blame the Cracking for this.Come on the rain. Why the way
did everybody? I gotta I've gotto get the scoop. I didn't.
(33:42):
I didn't deep deep dive into itor anything. Did you see the score
yesterday with Vancouver in their preseason game? Make they pulled a they pulled the
Denver Broncos. Oh boy, theygotta beat ten nothing in a preseason h
L game. Ten Well, Idon't, I don't. I don't care
who you're playing like, even ifyou're like that. I mean, Sean
(34:06):
Payton thinks that's bad. That's howbad that was. That was awful.
Anyway, Kracking in Calgary tonight areplaying. This is almost like baseball split
squad. One team's in Peoria, the other ones in Chandler apparently down in
Arizona. Now they're there's a teamup in Calgary for the Kracking taking on
the Flames Saddle Dome, and thenthere is a oh damn it. I
(34:27):
just looked at this, Okay,I was all happy. I was sick.
I was gonna give you guys somegood news here for going to the
game anyway. The end, thenthere's a team down here too, and
it really is a split squad likeSeattle at Calgary. Will Borgan see tulven
In Borgain let me see. I'mjust telling I'm gonna try you how to
tell you. Ryker Evans is upthere, which is too bad like to
see him down here. Shane Wright, car Jay, I'm a moto that
(34:52):
the team that's playing in Calgary isoutside of a couple of guys, is
fringe roster Coachella VA. It's amuch better Calgary team up there. Dustin
Wolf's playing in goal for Calgary uptonight in Calgary, which is kind of
that's my I was gonna say that'sa bumberies from the ever Stilbar chips.
We all play junior. Would anice team playing on here. Lucas Siona,
(35:12):
the former Thunderbird captain who led histeam to WHL championship this past June.
He's actually playing for Calgary tonight inSeattle, which would be cool for
him to get a play at ClimatePledge against the Craft. He's playing for
Calgary. The Seattle team that's playinghere in Seattle, pretty good team.
Larson Everley Vaniers, McCann, DonnGrubauer, Yanni Gord, and then a
(35:36):
bunch of other dudes that are tryingto make the team. So it really
is a split squad, and thestronger team for Seattle's probably here. The
stronger team for Calgary is up there, which makes sense that you would put
your stronger team if you're splitting squadup for your home game. We will
have a cracking preview show tonight asa preseason starts at seven o'clock on nine
fifty am. They're not calling playby play necessarily, and I don't blame
(35:59):
him. That would be hard.We do that in spring games and stuff.
For that'd be hard to be hard. So anyway, they're gonna do
that tonight at seven o'clock over ninefifty am to get them to in football.
Dave Haxtell's a head coach for theCracket, talking about the split squad
in the preseason, starting, well, it's an opportunity for you know,
for a lot of players today, and that's you know, that's probably the
biggest takeaway of all of it.You know, in some ways, you
(36:21):
know, split Scot's squads can bea little bit challenging because you're spread out,
but you take the positives out ofit, and it's it's a ton
of opportunity for guys that have earnedit through camp. We'll probably look at
it a little bit differently depending onthe two spots, but yeah, nobody
will play. Nobody will play afull game today. I mean it'll be,
you know, for a veteran asan opportunity to get in and whatever
(36:43):
makes most sense for them. Sothat's in communication with those guys, and
then it's opportunity for you know, for for other guys to you know,
to get in and to compete andtry and earn some more playing time.
Thank you for referring to the goaltendersat the end. Yeah, with the
full game. So yeah, becausetrigger up north to Chord and Grew Bauer
are here. The kid from St. Cloud states up. We'll back up
(37:04):
three. You're up in Calgary tonight. Yeah, you're not going to play
goalie hole sixty minutes. Certainly,Grew Bauer, Drigger coming off of various
injuries the last couple of years,Joey Das coming off playing like a thousand
games because they got to the CaulderCup finals. So they'll split the goaltending
duties up as well, and againsplit squad. Yeah. Yeah, like
I like Haxles first coming. It'skind of a challenge really, but kind
(37:27):
of Yeah. I mean, you'retrying to watch a lot of guys play,
but you want to see them playin actual games, opposed to scrimmaging
out of the case. Yeah,he's coaching the team in Calgary. Assume
Bosma, Okay, assume yeah,Coello coach. I mean sometimes sometimes they
just let assistance coach period and thenthey can sit up in the press box.
Yeah. I don't know, I'mnot sure. Yeah, as opposed
(37:50):
to being on the bench. Bythe way, you can check out new
family ticket bundles, promotional group nightsand other ways to stay on cracking tickets
by visiting NHL dot com slash Crackingslash tickets. So go to NHL dot
com slash Cracking slash tickets for allthe ticket bundles, group nights and other

(38:14):

do the normal hockey text even thoughit's Calgary. Yeah, I think so.
There's two words so excited this back? Yeah, Yeah, there's two
words you text in to four ninefour to five one. If you want
to go to Climate Pledge tonight,we have free tickets for you. Simple
is that you want to go tonight, text in the two words, the
(38:36):
two magical hockey words. I'll justthink I'll give you a hint if you're
new to this. There's a townsouth and we just think they have now
there's just there. There's a certainquality. Are inferior they are and they
rhyme with ducks and in a playapplies to soccer fans as well, it
does. Yeah, so you textin those two words four nine four five
one. We'll get to five pairsof tickets to give away for tonight's game,
(38:58):
cracking taking on the Calgary Alberta CanadaFlames tonight at So by the way,
Oh there we go. Sorry,I'm getting emails coming in right now.
I want to hear your Canadian accentcome out more often, and especially
during hockey season. What's that all? A boot? All right? Tomorrow?
(39:21):
Tomorrow? All right, We're good. Mike Sando is with the athletic,
his pick sticks call him you'll believeit or not, actually talks about
our former quarterback in Seattle and histeam's current struggles Denver. I can't wait
for this. How great is that? You know what? And people,
Oh, why are you hating onRoss? Sign of that? Like if
you grew up in this town youhate Denver? Like if you I mean
(39:44):
they were our division forever, AFCWest and the Bronco bus be in there,
well, the Bronco busser shirts, the bus all that. Yeah,
it was awesome. The AFC.We'd love the AFC, which we're still
in the AC anyway. Yeah,Broncos suck. They're awful. Sean Payton
may bench Ross at some point. Is it his fault? Nobody? He'll
(40:05):
get blamed. Love it. We'lltalk about that Sandal pick six next
