Speaker 1 (00:00):
We mentioned it with Palazzolo yesterday, right, I was Wednesday
and looking at some of the numbers, and I heard
earlier today when Greg was on with uh or No
it was Sando. I think Sando was on with the
Morning Show, right, Yes.
Speaker 2 (00:14):
Oh yeah, I heard that.
Speaker 3 (00:14):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (00:16):
The pass rush for Atlanta's not good. No, in fact,
it's awful.
Speaker 4 (00:20):
Pau's old told to say yesterday.
Speaker 1 (00:21):
Yeah, and that's what and Steve was saying that and
Sanda were talked about it again today. The other thing
that's really good. This is what should give you a
lot of confidence for Sunday. Gino Smith indoor stadiums is phenomenal.
Oh yeah, like he is phenomenal. So if you combined
Gino with the lack of a pass rush for Atlanta
and lack of really pass defense for Atlanta indoors, this
(00:45):
could be a nice get right week for the offense,
which kind of kicked itself around a little bit the
last couple of weeks. Well last week, not the two
weeks ago, because Detroit didn't do that. No, I guess
last couple weeks. Yeah, because the Giants they went very good. Right, so,
but maybe the old over has that been taken yet?
In fact or fiction.
Speaker 2 (01:04):
No, only only one over under pick today.
Speaker 1 (01:08):
I'm not telling you what to pick. I'm just.
Speaker 2 (01:13):
I have I have an idea of what I'm gonna do,
and it might put me head to head.
Speaker 1 (01:17):
Always a second, don't tell you because because you can't. Yeah,
that's right. You did take an over to Neanders did
we have to wait a few extra days for if
I'm not.
Speaker 4 (01:26):
Mistakes there doesn't affect any of the picks. Softy was
telling me, oh, you should get a fiction because I
did when I picked. No, you picked the wrong you
picked a gain those already picked, that was already picked.
He just wanted company for being a knucklehead, which I'll
give him that I wasn't.
Speaker 2 (01:41):
Knuck He kind of always wants that.
Speaker 4 (01:42):
But it doesn't affect the contest, No, it does.
Speaker 1 (01:45):
It does not affect the contest per se. So we're
all good in that regard. So but yeah, I was
just I'll be interested. Doctor Korbyn coming up at one
o'clock today. This is a this is a pivotal game
for the Seahawks on Sunday. Well, we'll check in tomorrow
with Cosal. But you know a foreign to Atlanta team
that I don't know if they're that good. I don't
think they are. And see, I mean their kickers won
a couple of games for them single hand. You I'm like, kids,
(02:07):
really really good and but they you know, they've but Seattle,
I want to think they're okay. They haven't looked okay
in the last couple of weeks. Three weeks. Really they
looked okay against Detroit. Yeah, they looked awful against the Giants.
They looked awful for the most part against the forty
nine ers. But I think they're a better team now.
(02:27):
Losing Rayshawn Jenkins is not good. No, make no mistake
about that. That's not good. And I don't I mean,
Wallace hasn't played well. This might be a Kobe Bryant game.
And by how we forget that just a couple of
years ago, Kobe Bryant as a rookie was a really
big part of this football team. Is their nickel corner
before they drafted Devin Witherspoon and they flipped them back
(02:48):
to safety. And we really haven't seen a lot of
Kobe Bryant in the last you know, year and six games.
Maybe this is a Kobe Bryant game coming up. Yeah,
you know, like maybe this the have't used that much.
He's been playing in some dime coverage, but yeah, he
I I I think we're gonna, you know, if you
have a choice between Wallace and him, we'll talk to
(03:09):
the court. When we don't know because we can't watch practice.
Guys can't watch practice out there.
Speaker 4 (03:13):
Well, just the games that I've seen, I feel like
Kobe's proven more.
Speaker 1 (03:16):
I like Kobe in the box as well. And you're
gonna get a team that's gonna want to run the
ball a little bit with Bijon in company and Algier.
So yeah, but it's a pivotal game. You know, four
and three you feel okay, Yeah, three and four and
you're starting to reach kind of panic modet then.
Speaker 4 (03:32):
Well three and four with four straight losses and and
this matchup.
Speaker 1 (03:37):
And Buffalo rolling into town next week with a new
wide receiver and kind of getting a little bit right
with Josh Allen and company. So uh, and the home
field has meant nothing for Seattle. It's kind of amazing.
It's just and it's really kind of gone away over
the last few years as.
Speaker 4 (03:51):
Well, and a lot of people think about it as like, oh,
it's it should be the fans you need to bring in,
like the fans just aren't as good anymore. No, I
think it's more it's the other way around you. You
guys need to give the fans something to be excited
about and get hyped about, right, And I thought defensively, especially,
and I can't.
Speaker 1 (04:07):
I always it always translates differently on TV than it
does in the stadium, because there's been times I've been
in a stadium and I've thought, Wow, this place is
rocking and it's great. I hear people say later, boy
didn't feel that way because it didn't translate on TV,
And that's just the guy in the audio booth is like,
how's he doing? Yeah? I thought the Giants game sounded
incredible here, but I was watching on TV, so I've
(04:27):
heard people that were there saying it was just okay.
But I felt like the fan. I think our fans
are fantastic if I'm ever gonna like really for all
of our sports, and they they deserve better. Certainly the
baseball fans deserve better. The football fans have always been
really really good, and the hockey fans they're phenomenal, like
they are phenomenal, really.
Speaker 4 (04:47):
Good for a new team.
Speaker 1 (04:48):
Yeah, Sounder fans are good. Yeah, yeah, I mean it's
just yeah, I don't I'm know not how to can
criticize the fans. But you have a home field. The
home field allure in Seattle has kind of lost it
a little bit. Okay, Stuart Mandel's going to join us
in a second. I'm excited to talk to Stewart. There's
a the there's a lot of talk around the Dan
Lanning move and was it cheating or not cheating?
Speaker 2 (05:11):
It wasn't if it wasn't against the rules, it was sneaky.
Speaker 1 (05:13):
It was he broke a rule intentionally knowing that it
would help him and knowing the ramifications weren't severe. Now
they are, they've changed that. I kind of liked what
he did, to be honest with you. We'll see what
Stewart says about that. We'll talk about a big weekend
coming up in college football, Texas, Georgia and so much more.
All that Stuart Mendel from the Athletic Mendel. Then we've
got well check in with Corbyn. We had a daily

Speaker 1 (06:20):
Quickly visit with Stuart Mandel from the Athletic back on
his normal day of Thursday. Moved things around a little
bit last week with Thursday Night football and all that
fun stuff. He's back with us, Stuart. How are you, Cody?
Speaker 6 (06:33):
How are you?
Speaker 7 (06:33):
I'm great.
Speaker 1 (06:34):
I'm great. We got a lot, man, We had a
lot to discuss in the world of college football. What
a weekend it was last weekend, the Oregon Ohio State game.
What a weekend we have coming up? Injuries, non injuries,
faking injuries, rule changes. I don't know where the heck
we start today. Let's get a reaction just first from
the game itself, Oregon and Ohio State. And you know,
one of the I guess one of the nice little
(06:55):
offshoots of realignment is the number of games we've had
this year, including one coming up this weekend, as teams
in the top five, top ten had one of those
last weekend? Would you think of Oregon and Ohio State.
Speaker 8 (07:08):
Yeah, it was an awesome game with a bizarre but
dramatic finish. You know, credit to Oregon. This was a
real statement win for them, showing, you know, first season
in the Big Ten, absolutely no adjustment needed, already able
to beat you know, kind of the program that everybody
(07:29):
considers the best program in that conference right now. So
does that mean that Oregon's now gonna win the national championship?
I don't know, Probably a little too soon to go there.
They might have to beat Ohio State again on an
initial field in early December. And of course, now the
legacy of that game will be that it got a
rule changed within days of Dan Lanning, you know, coming
(07:52):
out and saying publicly that he purposely took a delayed
game penalty at the end of the game, which worked
out great for him. But now nobody will be able
to do it.
Speaker 1 (08:00):
What was your reaction to that? To what Landing did?
The strategy he used, and I'd use the term strategy
because I think that's exactly what it was. But what
you know, it did result in a rule change. But
what was your reaction to what he did? Because some
think it was brilliant, some think it was, you know,
quote cheating, whatever you want to say, however, whatever word
you want to use, what was your reaction to it?
Speaker 8 (08:20):
If you've got a chance to win, well, you know,
the biggest game of your career, a program defining you know,
win for that program. You're ten seconds away from doing that.
You're not thinking about or is this wrong.
Speaker 7 (08:34):
Of me to do?
Speaker 9 (08:35):
You know?
Speaker 8 (08:35):
It's it's it was gamesmanship like we see between coaches
all the time, and I thought, you know, to have
the wherewithal to you know, they have so little time
on the sideline to make decisions like that. Obviously they
call time out to discuss it further. But the fact
that that was even on their radar, I think is
really impressive. I saw Urban Meyer on a Fox podcasts
(08:58):
say it is thirty something years of coaching, gett never
done that. You never thought to do that. I mean,
it's crazy kind of when you think about it, that
nobody had ever thought to do something or that before.
So I got to give a lot of credit to him.
Speaker 1 (09:10):
You wrote about what ole Miss is doing and or
being accused of doing, or is doing. I don't even
know it's ole Miss is is employing what many people
up here think is an old Oregon tactic of maybe
some injuries to slow things down, get an extra time
out to get however it might be. And you had
a number I don't have in fun of me. That
number was pretty extreme. What what ole Miss is doing?
(09:32):
What's the difference between maybe what they're being accused of
and that, you know, kind of skirting the so called
injury rules and uh and maybe you know the tuning
men on the field penalty.
Speaker 8 (09:44):
Well, when you get into fake injuries, I feel like
you're getting into something more serious, which is health and safety.
Health and safety is at the center of I mean, obviously,
faking injuries is not new in college football. It started
really once we started to see hurry up offenses come
on the scene. And one reason that you've been able
(10:07):
to get away with that is that nobody wants to
be no officient no official wants to have to decide
in real time whether somebody is really injured or not.
You're always going to default on the side of caution.
You don't want to penalize somebody and then turns out
the guy's really injured. But what all miss is doing
is much more blatant and praising, and you know it's
(10:31):
getting caught on tape. Now you're seeing Jackson dart motion
to a running back to just suddenly drop you know,
a situation. And there's another one I think where a
guy kind of limps towards the sideline. As soon as
he gets the sideline, he's walking into spine like so,
I guess just you know, if we are concerned about
this affecting the games and whether it should be, you know,
(10:53):
it's really going to be up to the SEC. Are
you going to have all this video evidence? Are you
going to do anything about it? Because really it's a
conference vision, it's a sportsmanship issue. They could find suspend.
You know, they have a latitude to do that. But
to this point, nobody that I can think of has
come out and punished school or a coach for the strategy.
Speaker 1 (11:13):
I agree with you, by the way, just for the record,
and because I think that the big definition or difference
between the two to one. You know what Landing did
with the too many men, you know, like it doesn't
matter what the sport. Sometimes you take a penalty to
prevent something else from happening. Like that's just what you do.
Speaker 2 (11:30):
Where does like get.
Speaker 10 (11:31):
Better field position for a kick or something, you know,
you take a delay a game and back yourself up
five yeard.
Speaker 1 (11:35):
Yeah, I mean this was a lot more extreme. Or
you grab a you foul a guy going to the basket, right,
like you're not gonna let them, You're not going to
let them score. That's you know, and you know there's
a penalty to it. This was just I think with
Stuart's I think it was brilliant to be honest with
you by Landing. But yeah, the faking injuries, Stuart, I
think this is health and safety is huge, especially in
today's world of college and all sports. Really, you know,
(11:56):
we're wearing guardian caps and practices and you know, you're
asking a guy to go down and basically it's you're
crying wolf, right, and then at what point do you
not you know, is somebody really hurt and he's not
getting believed by an official or I just I think
there's a little bit of a factor here that that
is a little bit, I guess scary in a sense
and maybe just disturbing if i'm you know, hell, if
(12:17):
I'm a parent, I'm disturbed by that. If my kids
being told to go lay down and pretend like.
Speaker 8 (12:20):
He's heard, I don't really understand how, you know, I
mean to do something like that. Trainers have to be
in on it, right, They don't want to You're risking
your license or something if you're condoning that. So you know,
we'll see if anything comes.
Speaker 9 (12:36):
They put out a.
Speaker 8 (12:36):
Press release very quietly, you know, five PM Friday News
Don't last week alest it, acknowledging that they're part of
the story and that they had given their injury information
to the NCAA. Like, I guess they're going to show
an injury report and show that it matches up with
you know, guys that were taken out of the game
at that time. But yeah, you know, soccer has rules
against flopping, and this is basically the college football equivalent.
Speaker 1 (12:59):
To pop something that fans hate too. To be honest
with you, it's like it's like if you ask the
average non soccer fan in the United States what's their
biggest complaint about soccer, and it's exactly that. It's the
feigning of injuries, the dramatics and all that, and so
to put have it in football is just not something
that I think a lot of people will be on
board with. Super Mandela's all right, I know you don't
(13:21):
love the blue blood debate necessarily, but it was brought
up in your mail bag, and I thought it was
an interesting one because we do live in a world
where may we may or may not have some so
called super Conference someday Oregon would certainly be involved with that.
But you know, like you start thinking about which teams
truly belong in that upper echelon, whether you want to
call them blue bloods or not. Where does Oregon rank
(13:43):
and the hierarchy of probably the better way to put it,
where's Oregon rank in the hierarchy of today's college football?
Because today's college football isn't the seventies and eighties college
football stewards we all know.
Speaker 8 (13:53):
Yeah, Oregon is one of the rare, I think new
blood brands. I don't think you can really use the
term blue bro It's blue blood because that refers to
something that happened. You know, a program or a brand
that has been doing this for decades, maybe a century.
But they are no question recognized as one of the
top programs in the sport. They've even played for two
(14:15):
national titles, not that long ago. They just haven't won
one yet. And you know, when I do every five
years now, I do this tiered system kings, barons, et cetera.
And everybody in that top tier has won at least
one national championship. You know, many have won several. But
when Georgia ended it's forty two year drought, I moved
them up to that top tier. When Clemson won it
(14:38):
the first of two hundred DABO, I moved them up
the minute organized the national title. I will officially say
they're one of the kings of the sport. I think
right now they're just a notch below that Ohio State
beating in top three Ohio State team was huge. What
they really haven't They haven't had many opportunities to play
like a big name SEC team, and when they have,
they've lost. I think to get the respect of that
(15:01):
part of the country is going to require getting the
playoffs and beating in Alabama at Georgia who blew them
out a couple of years ago. Now Texas would account
as that, so like that's that's the big you know,
milestone still to go.
Speaker 1 (15:15):
Yeah, It's an interesting thing with you know when you
look at where in some way cyclical in nature, but
you know, like around the sport, like who is you know,
who's considered one of those in the hierarchy. I was
thinking about this this past weekend when I watched Oklahoma
just get bludgeoned. They're four and two overall, but they're
one and two in the SEC. I wonder if a
team like Oklahoma, which I would put borderline in that
(15:38):
category right for for years and years, decades and decades,
are they starting to slip out of that a little bit?
Speaker 8 (15:46):
I mean I've had people say since they left for
the SEC, do they are they in danger of what
happened to Nebraska once to join the Big Ten has
to them. I think it's really too early to say.
I think right now I'm more focused on did they
make the wrong higher at the Inventables. He's in his
third year now, they should be better than this. They've
(16:08):
had incredibly bad injury luck at receiver. Still, they should
be better than this, and honestly, I think the worst
is still to come for them. They kind of had
a softer schedule early in the season. They play a
lot for the best teams in the conference. Like it's
not inconceivable this ends up. You know, this team was
ranked in the top twenty five up until last week.
(16:30):
This is a bold game or goes six and six,
and you know that's that's not acceptable in Norman. I mean,
at least going back to the beginning of the Bob
Stoop's tenure, they were in the mix for the Big
telve title pretty much every year, and obviously that will
not been the case since Lincoln Riley left. So I think,
you know, it's just way too early to make any
(16:51):
broader conclusions, because if you have the right coach, you
should be able to win in any conference.
Speaker 1 (16:55):
Well, well rehearsed segue into from Lincoln Riley to Oklahoma
into USC. What's the concern level do you think right
now in Southern California for Lincoln Riley in that program
that's one in three in the Big Ten, three and
three overall and kind of feels like it's stuck in
the mud.
Speaker 7 (17:11):
A little bit.
Speaker 1 (17:11):
They got rid of their defensive coordinator that was supposed
to be all the issues last year with Alex Grinch.
But what's the concern down at USC with Lincoln.
Speaker 8 (17:20):
There's a lot of angst because it just doesn't seem
like the right fit in that sports market. Very thin skin,
the very defensive, filmmaking excuses, and look, they have lost
three extremely close games, so in that regard that at
least they're not They used to have these really the
first two years, these really embarrassing losses where they couldn't
(17:43):
stop anybody, and to their credit, their defense got a
lot more respectable now. They don't have a Caleb Williams
kind offense though, So but you shouldn't be losing Minnesota.
Beating Penn State would have been huge. It would have
been a great win for them, and they left that
slip away. They still got a lot of tough games
still to go, including Notre Dame at the end of
the season. I don't think he's in any danger of
(18:05):
losing his job, mostly because they gave him this insane
contract that would cost a small fortune to buy out.
But it's just you don't want that malaise to kick in.
I like it didn't play.
Speaker 11 (18:16):
Helton was the coach.
Speaker 8 (18:17):
You know, it felt like every year was are they
going to fire Clay Helton? Are they not fans complaining
about Clay Helton now? And Riley's record is much better
than Clay Helton had, but he also hasn't band to
a Rose Bowl like Clay Helton did the first year
or yeah, his first four years. So I think you'll
(18:38):
continue to see a bit of a soap oper surrounding
that program.
Speaker 1 (18:41):
I think only two programs in Power Fives, if I'm
not mistaken, Houston and who's the other one? Houston and
somebody else all Florida State have scored less points in UCLA.
You talk about a guy that's not It may not
be working out now. Maybe it's way too early, first
year of a coach for Sean Foster, but man U
c l A. That's it's hard to be irrelevant if
you're a football team or you're a major college program
(19:03):
in Los Angeles, even if you are in the shadow
of USC. But boy, it feels like UCLA is going
down that path pretty quick. When can basketball start to
get out there?
Speaker 12 (19:13):
It's too early to I never.
Speaker 8 (19:14):
I don't want to write a guy off, you know,
halfway through his first season. The problem is it's such
a bad first impression. You say, when people got frustrated
that they couldn't turn the corner or chi Kelly. But
now they're just terrible, and that's a hard It means
that whatever, you know, wherever this ends up next year,
he's gonna go into it with a lot of doubters.
(19:35):
And it's just, you know, and I just think I
think it's a bit of an unfair ask of any coach.
I mean, this program, you know, USC was prepared financially
to go to the Big ten UCLA. Absolutely, they have
very little nil support. They kind of pinch pennies in
the first place. They've been running a deficit. There's not
(19:56):
you can just see them a away. This is going
to be a disaster that this school is going to
be playing Big ten football and so and I think
fans for the most part realized that that doesn't mean
they're okay with it. But this has been even worse
than I imagined. They're just I mean, they may be
You mentioned a couple of candidates there for worst Power
five school in the country. For Purdue in there as well.
(20:18):
They're on that short list there, which who would have
ever thought you'd say that?
Speaker 1 (20:21):
Right, UCLA, UCLAM pretty were both going, that's cool, we're
basketball schools. We'll talk to you in November and through
the March. Along the way, Super madel joining us from
the Athletic handicapped the Big Twelve for us because at
the top of the standings of the Big Twelve right
now there's three unbeaten teams. One is from the state
of Utah, but it's not who we thought it would be.
It'd be the BYU Cougars. The other is Iowa State.
(20:43):
They're sitting there at three and oh one conference play.
And how about my friends, the Texas Tech rid Raiders
five and one? Just you know what the one blemish
on Texas Tech record is that five?
Speaker 2 (20:52):
You know, I'm aware it goes something like I think
it was like Crimson and.
Speaker 1 (20:55):
Fight Fight Fight for Washington. Handicapped that And by the way,
you and I always say, don't play each other in
the regular season, So Handy Caps are they on a
collision course with the Big Twelve championship game.
Speaker 8 (21:07):
I think it continues to be kind of wide open.
I am very impressed with BYU and what they've done
so far kind of a sneaky good resume. They know
SMU has gone on to be a like we kind
of expected a really explosive offensive team. They beat them
eighteen to fifteen. They beat Kansas State thirty eight to nine.
They blew out Arizona last week. I mean, I think
(21:29):
sometimes when these teams were not expected to be good,
it takes a while for people to take them seriously.
But would I would definitely take the UYU seriously and
I was stayed as well. And ASU to me one
of the biggest surprise teams in the country. They were
picked dead last in the Big twelve and they're five
and one. I wouldn't rule Kansas State out yet either.
So while those are the two Iowa State nineth by
(21:51):
I used thirteenth like the two front runners right now,
I still would not be surprised if any of like
five or six teams win that conference.
Speaker 1 (22:01):
Yeah, and if you haven't, people haven't watched Scataboo run
for the Arizona State Centrals Camp Scataboo former SCS player
uh from Sex State. I believe he is fun to watch.
I mean, he's Ashton Gent. He's fun to watch. Skataboo's
fun to watch to it wrote about a bunch of
guys like that. Uh, by the way, we are happy
at Washington State that Texas Tech's running back ta J
Brooks wasn't there in that game because he might have.
(22:26):
Sometimes you need something.
Speaker 8 (22:27):
That game, Texas Tech gave up like fifty one points
to Aveline Christian and then you guys blew them out,
and I was like, oh, they might be terrible. And
they've really turned it around since then, especially on defense, five.
Speaker 1 (22:40):
And one, five and one in overall and three and
old conversation. All right, quick thought for me before I
let you go, Stewart, Big weekend in college football, Texas
and Georgia. Huh, classic old time SEC matchup between these teams.
But but but I mean, in all seriousness, Uh, it's
what we get with these new conference re alignments. We're
getting more and more of these games Alabama Tennessee, by
(23:01):
the way, seven versus eleven. But the headliner, obviously is
is Texas and Georgia. Some thoughts on that number one
versus number five on Saturday.
Speaker 8 (23:10):
I feel like it's become dizzy and how many big
games we have in this new system where like a
game like number you know, one versus five, or last
week two versus three in most seasons have been the
game of the year, and now we're alred to have
our third, you know, George Alabama, I said, organ now
this one. And the weird thing about this one is
obviously Georgia, you know, came into the season number one
(23:32):
and is widely you know, kind of the most successful
program out there right now, and yet it's hard to
say they're not the underdog. They haven't. Something's just not
right with those guys. They haven't looked like that. Other
than that first game AGA's plumping, they have not looked
the part. Now if Kerrie Smart I meant any moment,
I feel like, yeah, they snap their finger, they can
(23:53):
turn back into that. So I'm not like all Texas
is going to blow them out by Amyans, But they
really just have two very different seasons so far. Georgia
has and dealing with one question mark after another. Texas
has just rolled. This will be definitely the best team
Texas has played. But I can't. I don't look at
Texas be like, well, here's an area that Georgia could exploit.
If it's there, we just haven't seen it yet.
Speaker 1 (24:15):
Sneaky good game. By the way, in the ACC at
nine am on Saturday is a number six Miami going
to Louisville as well, for I mean there's a there's
land mines along the way for a lot of these
teams hoping to get to the college football playoff. That's
an early one to keep an eye on as well.
All right, Stewart, go check out Stewart's work at The
Athletic Theathletic dot com. There's BOLP Predictions out there right
now that he did with one of the other writers
(24:36):
at the Athletic that's up there. We've also got to
his weekly mail bag, which is a ton of fun.
So go check it out at the Athletic, Theathletic dot
com and you get the podcast going right.
Speaker 8 (24:45):
Yeah, by the way, the mail bag has a fun
little Washington State thing.
Speaker 1 (24:49):
Yes it does.
Speaker 7 (24:50):
Yeah, Yes.
Speaker 8 (24:52):
What would the PAC twelve standings be like right now
if everybody was still together? I think too extensively pleased with.
Speaker 1 (24:57):
That spoiler spoilerric they'd be really good of the kooks
if you want to go now.
Speaker 2 (25:01):
Trying to makes me cry, though I know.

job with college football, absolutely fantastic with college football.
Speaker 2 (25:51):
We are lucky to have Stuart. I love that we
have them.
Speaker 1 (25:54):
I like his take on the blue Bloods. It's a
conversation we had last year with Gary Parrish on with basketball,
and because they had debated a while as well, I
don't think it even matters anymore like it's it's it's
Maybe it kind of mattered back in the day of
the BCS with one or two teams going, you know,
playing for a title. Or something like that. But you know,
(26:17):
life changes. I USC is in a world of hurt
and they would be considered a quote blue blood. But
they they're there. They haven't really been they they've just
been kind of floundering for a little bit. But then
you look at some other team like nebra He BROUGHTU
in Nebraska. Nebraska's having a nice year this season. They're
(26:38):
five and one. Maybe they're on the bounce back. But boy,
initially moving to the Big Ten just was crushing for them.
But they you know, they're they're better this year. They're
two and one in conference or five and one overall,
you know, and there's teams like at one point Clemson
is still really good. Uh they're five and one. This
season they're four and oh, but they've had a up
(27:00):
down years along the way. And Dabblo doesn't seem to
be interested in the portal, which is like the new
college football. You know. Notre Dame is always the great debate,
you know, like they just find their way into you know,
playoffs and things like that all the time, and you
just kind of ask yourself how and why. I think
there's an overinflated sense of who and what Notre Dame
(27:21):
is by people in the national media as opposed to
the actual real fans out there. But boys, what, yeah,
you know what, that's kind of who they are. They
kind of are the Cowboys in a sense, except for
the only the only difference I guess would be with
you know, with the Cowboys, there's actual standings that you
have to deal with. There's no subjective nature to me.
(27:43):
Right if you're crappy or crappy, and right now you're crappy.
Speaker 10 (27:46):
Well yeah, it's win loss, and then so Notre Dame.
Like did the style points count and names counting?
Speaker 1 (27:52):
I've given this man, there's six and they're five and one.
They've only given up seventy points this season, like prety
pretty legit defense.
Speaker 5 (28:00):
Uh.
Speaker 1 (28:00):
They're also going to play army right this year?
Speaker 4 (28:02):
Yeah, that's army.
Speaker 1 (28:03):
Get put up some points. I think that's the one
Greg was talking about. That's a Yankee stadium. It's like, yeah, yeah,
we talked yesterday, we'll talk to Isaiah Wat's coming up
at one thirty today. That's just the whole world, the
whole thought of do we still have student athletes?
Speaker 9 (28:17):
Right?
Speaker 1 (28:17):
Do we still have student athletes out there? Or are
they all just guys wanting to get paid, getting paid,
getting Nil's doing every class online just kind of almost
secluded from the rest of your well, I guess in
the sense your classmates, right, like you're just you're just
not really a student athlete. More so, we'll talk to
Isaiah Wat's a little because I think he truly is
in bodies what a student athlete is. But I was
(28:38):
thinking about this when Greg was talking about what Army's
doing this year, and I think they're going to come
back to reality at some point there. You know, something's
going to happen along the way. But maybe it's Notre
Dame gets them, right, Maybe Navy gets them. Maybe Navy
gets them once or twice. Greg's probably losing his mind
if he's saying right now. But but Armys a team.
From this standpoint, you can kind of there student athletes
(29:01):
like those guys aren't taking classes online. They're they're you know.
Speaker 10 (29:05):
They're up at aushing their shoes.
Speaker 1 (29:08):
Yeah, and listen, we're not I get it. The world
we live in now is different. There are some classes
taking onlines, fine, you know, working from home is fine,
Remote is okay. But the college experience is not everything online.
So there's teams that do kind of like Army. As
much as it drives me nuts listening to Greg all
the time, I'm kind of rooting for them a little bit.
(29:29):
I'm kind of rooting for a.
Speaker 7 (29:30):
Navy a little bit.
Speaker 10 (29:30):
Greg makes me root for them, holds a gun in
your head. His passion encourages me to root for the Yeah.
Speaker 1 (29:39):
All right, we'll talk a little college. Whos is Isaiah
wats He's a fun, fun young man to talk to.
We'll do that at one thirty today. Corbyn Smith coming
up next. We'll talk all things Seahawks. They head down
to Atlanta on Sunday ten o'clock game. By the way,
it's an early game on Fox TV Fox thirteen here locally.
Bira Murphy is back. He'll be back in the lineup.
I think we'll hear from him, right, we hear from him?
Speaker 2 (29:57):
We Yeah, he's spent on media just a few minutes ago.
I have the audio.
Speaker 1 (30:01):
He has a good SoundBite about the Falcons passing on
him in the NFL draft to take a quarterback that
unfortunately doesn't look like he's going to be playing anytime soon.
Should be what well, I mean, there's cousins putting up
some numbers man hard to hard to are. I'd love
to see Penis playing. I'm a PANICX fan, even though
he's a Husky, I'm a Panix fan. I like watching them.
Speaker 2 (30:21):
I think he's in a perfect situation.
Speaker 1 (30:22):
But he might be. Well, you know what's interesting. You
could probably make that argument that he might be in
the best situation of all the sub GUS draft. Yeah, yeah,
maybe we'll talk about that. Corby Smith joins us talking
all things Seahawks.
Speaker 9 (30:33):

for any of you guys thinking that if you like,
I heard that was brought up during the Greg Bell
Chris Kids show earlier, and I ain't gonna have it, man,
it ain't gonna have it. Not gonna have it. Russell Wilson,
(31:43):
in a typical Russell Wilson a way, kind of let
it leak out today. He's gonna be the guy for
the Pittsburgh Steelers coming up this weekend against the Jets.
Sure shocking development, shocking developments. Let's get to Corbyn Smith.
Speaker 5 (31:58):

Yeah, this.

how are you?
Speaker 9 (33:00):
I'm good? And going off that comment that he just
made there, it's crazy that you would even consider rooting
for Aaron Rodgers. But we'll just leave it at that.
Speaker 1 (33:09):
It is except for I just Russ finding his way
back into the lineup for a four and two seat
Steelers team. Justin Fields has been the quarterback. He's been Okay,
I guess here, you know, I just it's just It's
an odd thing to me. I don't get it, honestly, Cory,
but I don't get it. But I'll check with my
guy Tim Bens and see. Tim Bens is my buddy
(33:31):
in Pittsburgh. He, like many other media, I've already soured
on Team Russ, So I'll have to check and see
what he says along the way. All right, let's get
to let's get to the Seahawks. There's injuries, guys coming back,
guys still out. Let me let me start first with
and we'll talk a little bit about the matchup this week.
But the Ray Shawn Jenkins injury, what does that do?
Speaker 9 (33:55):
I think it's a more significant injury than what a
lot of fans are acknowledged. And I understand that he
did not play well on Thursday night against the forty
nine ers, but you now know why he is going
on injured reserve. He had a huge club on his
hand and it was really impacting his ability to make tackles.
His pursuit angles were not very good in that game,
(34:15):
which his hand has nothing to do with that. But
most of this year he's been really good. He's been
one of Seattle's most consistent defenders. We remember the one
hundred and two yard fumble return. He can play both
safety spots. He's got thirty eight tackles this year, so
before that injury, he was playing at a really high level.
They don't really have a guy that is going to
be able to step in right now and be able
(34:37):
to play that role where he can be like an
extra linebacker. They don't really have another safety in the
roster right now they can handle those duties. Kevon Wallace
has done it before, but he's just not as big
and he's not quite as physical, so they're gonna have
to make some adaptations with how they do this. I
wouldn't be surprised Ian if they actually do what they
did at linebacker where Tyrese Knight and Drake Thomas were
(34:58):
rotating snaps for Jerome Baker when he was out, and
do that with Kobe Bryant and Kevon Wallace, mixing them
in and on a lineup, maybe having both of them
out there in three safety looks. But it's gonna be
a little bit of a challenge adapting to that.
Speaker 1 (35:11):
I mentioned Kobe Bryant in our opening segment today kind
of a lost soul in a sense. I mean, you know,
rookie season, he's you know, he's your starting nickelback, playing
a ton of snaps. Last year, he just kind of,
you know, and there's been injuries. I get it, but
I mean just kind of disappeared a little bit. Does
how does he fit into this team's picture in the
Mike McDonald offense, not just this week, but years going ahead.
(35:31):
Do you think, well, this is.
Speaker 9 (35:34):
The opportunity for him, and the fact that he has
been gradually eating into some reserve snaps on defense. It's
clear that Mike McDonald's been happy with what he's seen
from him on the practice field, the way he handles
himself in meeting rooms with film study. But now you've
got to show in an extended audition here that you
can handle playing that safety position, because aside from the preseason,
(35:55):
he's only played situational reps up at this point. So
this is truly his chance. And remember rachelon Jenkins, he's
on a two year deal, but there's a pretty easy
out for the Seahawks if Kobe Bryant played really well
in the next four games, plus if Jenkins needs to
miss more time, this is the opportunity for him to
show Mike McDonald, Hey, I can be your guy at
(36:15):
this other safety spot for the long haul. So this
is a critical next month for him in where he
fits into Seattle's plans moving forward.
Speaker 1 (36:25):
Corbas Smith joining us. Brought to you by sold by
Jim to ms dot com. You're looking to buy or
sell a house looking for real estate? My guy, Jim
Elliott sold by Jim to ms dot com. Go check
out the website is the guy you need to talk
to you right now, especially trying to sell a house
Sold by Jim dot com. Biran Murphy is back. Do
we have the say of the sound right? Biran Murphy
is back this week. He will be in the lineup
(36:47):
he was. He was asked a little while ago at
the news conference Corbyin about the fact that the Atlanta
Falcons had a chance to draft him. We'll get to
their lack of pass rush, their lack of defensive line
playing well at all. This She's and even with Grady
Jarrett and others in judea on but here's Byron Murphy
when asked about that, I heard, I.
Speaker 13 (37:06):
Did hear that Atlanta willdpust' draft me? You know, I
heard rumors about that, but you know they passed up
on me, so you know that's they fault. You know,
that's a big loss for them. So they will feel
me Sunday.
Speaker 1 (37:17):
So they will feel me on Sunday as Murphy comes back.
How bad do they miss this guy?
Speaker 9 (37:24):
I think that that has been the biggest problem the
last three games. I mean, just look at the stats.
I mean, I know the Patriots ran for a lot
of yardage in Week two, but the Seahawks were giving
up one hundred and sixteen rushing yards per game, and
three games that Byron Murphy played in it's over one
hundred and seventy the last three weeks. I understand that
competition they were playing was ratcheted up the last three weeks,
(37:45):
well really should have been two weeks, but they made
the Giants rushing attack look like a Jagger Knike. They
have missed him badly with his ability to absorb double
teams and still be able to wreak havoc in the backfield.
He right now according to Pro Football Focus, and he
is still number two among defensive tackles in pass rush
(38:05):
win rate this year on true pass set. So he's
been very effective and efficient rushing the passer. But I
think the run defense is where they have really missed.
His physicality, his toughness, the ability to take on double
teams and allow linebackers to play free. So I think
his return is huge for this team going into this
game when you've got to deal with Bijon Robinson and
(38:26):
Tyler Aljier, who I think is one of the better
backup running backs in the NFL.
Speaker 1 (38:32):
You were just mentioning, you know, both pass defense rushing,
the getting the passer and the pass rush, and also
run defense Byron Murphy really is in every down lineman, isn't.
Speaker 9 (38:41):
He He is? And I think that they're in a
situation where as long as he avoids any further injury,
this is a guy that I think is going to
be playing starter reps from here and out because I
think that the Seahawks real And I'm also saying this
because I think Leonard Williams is going to be playing
some off the edge. I mean, I posted this on
at after the game last week. I've never seen Trent
(39:02):
Williams get thrown to the ground by somebody. Leonard Williams
did that to him on a run play and he
got a tackle for loss. Playing as a two point
outside linebacker, Like how many three hundred pound guys can
do that? And I think that the Seahawks are going
to lean on that a little bit to help with
some of their edge defense concerns that they've had these
last three weeks. So it's going to open up even
(39:23):
more opportunities for Byron Murphy inside and obviously the newcomer
as well, Roy Robertson Harris.
Speaker 1 (39:28):
They you know, the front obviously getting the guys you know,
getting Murphy back, you get Roy Robertson Harris. It's interesting
watching him walk out on the field yesterday and just
looking at him, he's it's there's this body type that
Now it feels somewhat they've had three guys in somewhat
similar like tall, they're heavy, I mean they're two ninety
(39:49):
three hundred pounds, but Leonard Williams, Mike Morrison, and Roy
Robertson Harris are all kind of these taller, lankier in
a sense defensive lineman Corbyn.
Speaker 9 (40:00):
Baltimore style players. I mean, you watch the Ravens defense,
how many players they have that are in that build.
They like those edge defenders and three techs that are long,
athletic that can Recavoc. I mean, Brent Urban's a guy
that immediately jumps to mind. We're thinking about the Ravens
with Mike McDonald's defense the last couple of years, and
he's still playing at a high level for Baltimore this year.
(40:21):
But these are the kind of guys that Mike McDonald
has won with on defense, and so again that's why
I'm wondering. We saw more Mike Morris late in the
game last week. Leonard Williams played quite a few snaps
off the edge, and I think they're gonna try to
sprinkle that in a little bit more. This trade for
Robertson Harris allows them to do that, because now you
(40:41):
have another guy that is a capable three tech that
can rush to the passer and defend the run that
you could rotate in. You're gonna get Byron Murphy the
second back. So as long as you can keep all
those guys together, there is no excuse for that front line.
And honestly, Ian, I don't even feel like the front
line has been the biggest problem with the run defense.
But still, if that group even better, it's going to
help the guys behind them.
Speaker 1 (41:03):
That's like Corbus Smith joining us here on the Beacon
Plumbing Hotline, brought to my soul bygym dot com. Okay,
other side of the football. Want to talk this week
about DK and Geno and an interception and you know,
maybe not the same page. There's been a Hughes talked
about it quite a bit on our show, not just
our show, but other shows. The mundy pockets he's had,
but then even on that second reception, he actually had
(41:23):
time to throw and he still, you know, kind of
maybe waited too long. What's your biggest concern for the offense?
The offensive line is the easy answer, I know, But
what else?
Speaker 9 (41:33):
Ryan Grubb trying to find his way, That's my biggest
concern right now. I think he's going to but I
think he's getting some rude lessons right now about things
that he's going to have to adapt to in order
to be successful long term in the NFL. And the
run game issue, if not just the fact two weeks
ago that he just basically gave up on a one
(41:53):
drive into the game, but it's also trying to figure
out schematically, how can we sprinkle in some more under
center stuff. I know that at Washington and at Present
State it was a gun heavy offense, but Geno Smith
in particular feels like you got to get some of
that under center run game going so you can get
more play action. I mean, the guy is arguably the
best play action passer in the NFL. The stats bear
(42:15):
that out the last several years, but they're not getting
him in position where he can do that. In the
Giants game, a couple times they tried to run play
action the second half. It didn't work because the Giants
just had their hair on fire rushing off the edge
because why respect the run game. They weren't even trying
to run the ball. So you know, the offensive line
plays into all of these issues. But at the end
of the day, they have got to find a way
(42:38):
to get this run game going where it's at least
confident nothing. Let's face it, ken Walker the third is
one of their best players and he just out of
the ball. You have got to get the football in
his hands. Two weeks ago when they had five carries
the whole game. You know that should never happen if
he's healthy, and it did in that game. So I
look at the run game. That's the biggest issue. I'm
(42:59):
not concerned at all about Gino Smith what he's been
able to do with these circumstances. And that second pick.
I'm glad DK Metcalf took the heat on that one
because I've been saying that since the play happened live.
That was clearly a route issue more than the quarterback
making a bat read, and it ended up allowing that
quarter to jump the route and pick it off. So
(43:19):
they've got a few things to clean up there. But
I don't think Gino Smith. I think he's the least
of their problem.
Speaker 1 (43:23):
I think Cormyn The ken Walker dilemma is an interesting
one because you know, yeah, the Detroit game, he had
five rushing attempts, seven touches of the ball total not enough.
So then you go against the San Francisco forty nine
ers fourteen carries thirty two yards. His long carry was
eight yards. Zach Charbona, the backup five carries twenty yards
(43:48):
a nine yard carry, and if you take that out
of their four carries for eleven yards they kind of tried.
That's nineteen designed runs. That's more than they had the
week before, and nineteen designed runs got neeted them fifty
two total yards. What was all said and done? Maybe
they just can't run the football because of that offensive line.
Speaker 9 (44:09):
Well, well, i'll tell you what. If they can't run
the football, then this season's gonna get out of control because,
and I don't care who your quarterback is, you have
got to have some semblance of a run game to
be able to keep defenses. Honest, you can't sling the
ball eighty eight percent of the time in the NFL,
teams will eat you up. So they're gonna have to
get that figured out. It makes me wondering. Look, we
(44:30):
saw Stone forsythe and Anthony Bradford were on the injury
report out yesterday. We'll see what it looks like today.
But a part of me is wondering, like, do you
just do you finally let Christian Haynes go? Do you
finally give him a chance to start a game? Here?
You have an excuse now with Anthony Bradford being banged up.
Do you let Christian Haynes go. He was a great
run blocker at Yukon. Let him go for a whole
(44:52):
game and see what happens. And Jason Peters at right
tackle stone Foresights giving up thirty five pressures in six games.
It's more than double anybody else in the NFL, like
at some point, and he's always had issues in run
blocking because he's six's eight. There's just that leverage issue.
Jason Peters even coming off the couch at forty two,
(45:13):
you know, he he was a decent run blocker when
they played him last year. Maybe that's gonna get the
run game going a little bit if you sprinkle in
some different guys. I mean, they're in that situation now
where the lineup they've been playing just simply is not
getting the job done. You gotta wonder if maybe those
injuries and subbing some different guys in. I don't want
to say it's a blessing in disguise, but maybe it's
(45:34):
an opportunity to get that run game going a little
bit and help Gino Smith out.
Speaker 1 (45:39):
Jason Peters house to play this week, doesn't he. I mean,
I I think some stone foresithe hand aside, like because
the numbers don't lie. It's not the sacks always, it's
also those pressures you mentioned and the fact and by
the way, the left tackle is not immune from criticism either,
like he has not not been living up to what
you would expect for a especially draft position. But that
(46:01):
right side. I don't get it. I don't the road
we saw it last year for a while. Was it
last year? We saw the rotating guards for a while too,
right with uh was it Lewis and somebody who was it?
Speaker 9 (46:12):
It was?
Speaker 1 (46:12):
I felt like last year we.
Speaker 9 (46:13):
Had know they were. They were mixing Phil Haynes and
Anthony Brat.
Speaker 1 (46:16):
That's right, yeah, right, Like don't you just say you
have to there's a there's a chemistry issue that frankly
is also unfair to the center and whoever that right
tackle is as well? Right Like, at some point I too.
Speaker 9 (46:29):
The one thing, the one thing I will push back on.
I think Charles Cross is playing really well this year.
There's been a couple of times he's gotten beat. It's
gonna happen, but.
Speaker 1 (46:37):
He's getting walked back. We broke this down with Greg
Cosell last week. He's getting walked back into Gino a lot,
and and Hugh and I talked about it as well
on Monday. Like he he's not setting himself much at all,
Like he's getting overpowered a little bit. He doesn't get
beat with speed, but he's getting beat with power a lot.
Speaker 4 (46:53):
Yeah.
Speaker 9 (46:53):
I feel like I wonder though if part of that
also is the fact that he's having to pass protect
fifty times a game, that could be part of it too.
I think that these are things we have to consider
when you throw the ball that much, how much strain
it puts in your offensive line, especially when you already
have a group that's not very good to begin with.
But I mean, I generally think and I think he's
(47:15):
run blocking. He's probably been the most consistent run blocker,
which I don't know if that's saying much with this
team this year, but he's been their most consistent run blocker.
But I think Connor Williams is playing better, and I think,
dang it, if they had more consistency at the guard spots,
particularly the right guard spot, and your right guard didn't
have to worry about what's going on at right tackle.
(47:35):
But it's a domino effect when you're talking offensive linemen.
So I'm with you. I think Jason Peters, like the
dude has played so many games in the NFL. I
feel like he can just crawl out of bed and
he can suit up, and he's now practiced for three weeks.
I think he's got to play this week or heck,
give Mike Girella shot. I know he's a Division two guy,
but he's he is an athletic specimen, and he's gonna
(47:58):
be better in the run game probably all I You know,
if you're scared to put Jason Peters in and foresight's
not a healthy it gives you an opportunity to saying, look,
let's see what this six round pick can do and
throw him into the fire. You know, George Fant they
did that with many years ago when he was undrafted
and he ended up starting ten games and had some
solid games that year. So why not see there? I
(48:20):
just think they have to shake things up a little
bit on that right side.
Speaker 1 (48:22):
Well, Jarrell's interesting because because of this weird veil of
secrecy and the fact that we haven't seen seventy two
out there Abe Lucas and doesn't sound like from what
Mike McDonald's saying, we're gonna seehim anytime soon. Hell, Jarrell
may be your right tackle in the future.
Speaker 9 (48:37):
Like it's possible. I mean, the guy, the guy is
a ninety five the ninety fifth percentile athlete at the
tackle position. And everybody that I talked to this worked
with him, had talked about how hard of a worker
he is, and I was impressed with when I saw
in training camp. I mean he's stonewall boy mafe several
times in one on ones, which was not something I
(48:59):
was expect. I can just see. I'd like to see
what he can do. But if Jason Peters is ready,
that is the safe bet to go with. They got
to do something though. That right side of the line
is really hurting them right now.
Speaker 1 (49:10):
Well, if they can protect GINO, I like their chances.
Gino indoors Atlanta's a three point favorite in this game.
Atlanta's the worst pass rushing team in the NFL. Gino
inside thrives in indoor stadiums. Break this game down for me,
how do you see it's going? How do you see
it going?
Speaker 9 (49:27):
Look, I don't want to have it be a low
hanging through, but there's two things that have to happen.
They For one, they cannot let Bijon Robinson Tyler Elzier
take this game over running the football and you have
to worry about receiving with Jon Robinson. Two. But the
run game they've got to be able to. To me,
this might seem like it's crazy, but just keep them
under one hundred and twenty rushing yards. Let's let's have
(49:47):
a stepping stone here, keep them under one hundred and
twenty rushing yards. And then on offense, they've just got
to be able to have enough balance where Gino Smith
can take advantage of what is given to Listen, Ryan Grubb,
I'm gonna say this is his issue just as much.
I think both these guys they love to make those
plays attacking downfield. This is a game where Raheem Morris
(50:11):
and the Falcons are going to say, We're gonna let
you guys dink and dunk if you're patient enough to
do it, but if you try to throw the ball downfield,
we are gonna feast on it. They have created turnovers,
they don't give up a lot of explosive plays, So
you cannot just come out there and just start chucking
the ball downfield. You have got to be patient and
let those opportunities open up. If they do that, then
(50:34):
I like their chances to win this game. But of
course that's a big if. Ryan Grub's gotta have the
patience and you know, Smith's gotta have the patients to
let the game come to them. And then some of
those shot plays I think will eventually be there.
Speaker 1 (50:45):
Good stuff, Gorman. Tell people where they can find all
your work.
Speaker 9 (50:49):
As always on ex Corvin Smith NFL. He can also
find locked on Seahawks five six days a week on
YouTube and wherever you're listening to your podcasts and all
of our written work seahawksi dot com slash NFL slash Seahawks.
Speaker 1 (51:02):
Beautiful, good stuff, my friend. Uh, we will talk to
you next week. We'll see if the Seahawks can right
the ship and end this little three game skid, and
we'll talk to you next Thursday.
Speaker 9 (51:11):
Sounds good man.
Speaker 1 (51:12):
That is Corbyn Smith joining us here on the Beacon
Plumbing Hotline this afternoon. The Atlanta Falcons and the Seattle
Falcons are a three point favorite over under fifty one.
That's a pretty good number, fifty one five. Look at it.
I'm just looking here and this is in fact or fiction,
but check this out, you guys. So thirty I'm just
(51:32):
gonna read through some of the other over unders in
the NFL thirty seven, forty two and a half, forty
and a half, forty one and a half, forty three
and a half, and they're Seattle and Atlanta fifty one
and a half over under.
Speaker 4 (51:45):
Yeah, and then there's the one I picked on. I
we just that's the one we don't speak of, the
one we don't speak of.
Speaker 2 (51:53):
It's Lord of the name that we don't say.
Speaker 1 (51:56):
So one we don't speak of here, Harry Potter, it's
the and we don't speak of first team. First team
thirty wins this game apparently is what it is. First
team to thirty five might win this game in Atlanta
coming up on Sunday afternoon. All right, well we'll take
a little break from football. We got a we have
well maybe we even made drag him in here. Maybe
(52:17):
we'll drag Benton in here for a little We haven't
had Bent in here, have we yt this year?
Speaker 4 (52:20):
No, we have not a little live data.
Speaker 2 (52:22):
I think his arm will be twisted too. Difficulties.
Speaker 1 (52:25):
So we'll bring maybe the captain in here. Cracking tonight
taking on Philadelphia, the Flyers, who coming off a tough
loss the other night. They had a third period lead
before losing in overtime to Edmonton. Andrews was vastly disappointed
about that.
Speaker 4 (52:40):
Oh, yes, very it's just as disappointed as I was
that Colle I have lost last night.
Speaker 1 (52:43):
Time we'll check in with the captain at one forty
five of the Daily Power Play. We come back though
a little break from football, a little break from hockey,
a little break from baseball. We'll talk basketball. College basketball
is on the horizon, a local product who's just a fun,
fun young man to talk to. We'll hear from Isaiah
coming up next Mi from the R and R.
Speaker 5 (53:05):
Foundation Specialists Broadcast Studio. Back to Ian Furnance, Power Advice,
Seattle's closest sports book, snow called me Casino on Sports
Radio ninety three point three kjr FM, Welcome back.
Speaker 1 (53:20):
In Sports Radio ninety three point three KJRFM. He infernats
with you. I'm excited, man's it's college basketballs around the core.
I love college hoops. You guys listened to the show
last year, you know, and I liked it even more
last year because of what happened with my alma mater.
I love when the Coups are picked tenth and then
go jump up there make the NCAA tournament. But it's
a new look Washington State team sort of. There's a
(53:43):
guy that held over a guy that I and I've
mentioned this on the air a bunch of times. He's
on the phone right now. I'll embarrass him. I've said
this a bunch of times, but I hear this from
a ton of Washington State fans, a ton of alums,
boosters and others. It's like to find a guy in
today's day and age, in today's world you can see
and that's just a true coup.
Speaker 4 (54:01):
Like that guy is.
Speaker 1 (54:01):
That guy is what Razoo's about. And it's wild because
Pops is from Washington. We love you, Donald, We love
you Donald Wats.
Speaker 9 (54:10):
We love you Donald.
Speaker 13 (54:15):
I know he does.
Speaker 1 (54:16):
This guy's like that. He's also the prince of the campus.
Speaker 9 (54:19):
Man.
Speaker 1 (54:19):
I see him on social media. He's doing stuff all
Isaiah Wats is with us right now. What's up, man?
Speaker 9 (54:24):
How are you?
Speaker 7 (54:25):
How are you?
Speaker 1 (54:26):
I'm good, buddy. It's good to have you on. I
appreciate you jumping on.
Speaker 10 (54:30):
Uh.
Speaker 1 (54:31):
I know I've talked to your coach before. He says,
your your your energy, your personality is infectious. Let me
just start there, because you had this attitude and have
this kind of smile on your face. And it hasn't
been easy, you know. I mean you guys, you had
to go through you know, you go to Connecticut for
a year of school, to the prep school. You didn't
get a lot of offers except for one guy named
David Riley at Eastern. But you end up at Washington State,
(54:54):
and I know, like every young guy wants to play more.
You played not a lot early than you got in
the rotation. You're kind of in and out, but you
were part of an NCAA tournament team, made some big
plays last season, and then all hell broke loose. Kyle Leeves,
people are leaving nil this all that portal stuff. That
why did you stay?
Speaker 6 (55:13):
Man, That's a really good question for me. I stayed
because of the community of you know, WSU and the
Coogan community. The love that they show day in and
day out is something I've never felt before in my
whole entire life. So I just I felt like if
I left that I would lose that love. And I
(55:36):
probably wouldn't lose the love, but I really just didn't
want to leave. It's it's too good to be, too
good to leave, too good to leave.
Speaker 1 (55:43):
For sure, You're you're a student athlete. And we spent
some time on our show, honestly, Isaiah yesterday kind of
talking about the world of college athletics and where it is,
and you know, guys are you know, they're not on campus,
they're not walking around with the other student body. I
don't that's not the case with you. I see you like,
and they've kind of used you as the the social
media poster chop for the whole athletic department in some ways.
(56:04):
But but but you look like you enjoy that, enjoying it,
like you enjoy being not just an athlete, but a
student athlete.
Speaker 7 (56:11):
Is that is that the case?
Speaker 9 (56:13):
Yes?
Speaker 6 (56:15):
For me, I just feel like, I mean, they told
me before I got to college it will be the
best four years of you know, your life, and I
just wanted to soak that up and really just enjoy
the time that I have. So yeah, I'm always always
just walking around campus. I'm going to the volleyball game,
soccer games, for anything that I could do that just
(56:38):
show like a regular student.
Speaker 1 (56:40):
I do it so man, Isaiah that it's refreshing, honestly,
honest to goodness, that's refreshing to hear, Isaiah. Watch and
you're gonna, I'm gonna tell you this, as an old
man that went there in the eighties with my wife,
as someone whose daughter graduated there a few years ago,
you're gonna you're gonna appreciate it tenfold in about you know,
five ten years from now you are, You're gonna it's
gonna be. It's you know, there's a there's a handful
(57:01):
of athletes like you. We have you know, Alex brink
On every week and Crystal Bruce. You probably running in MK.
You can't miss him. Guys like that, you know, gardener things.
You're going to have part of that community the rest
of your life as well. Jess, you got something I
was just gonna say.
Speaker 10 (57:14):
You are actually in the modern college athlete world. Are
having a college experience. Yeah, and it's a unicorn. It
is a joy to here the joy in your voice
talking about it. How much you're experiencing on campus. You're
not isolated to just playing a sport.
Speaker 1 (57:30):
Have you had bile side one O two yet? Have
you had bioside one O two yet? Like every student has?
Speaker 9 (57:34):
No?
Speaker 1 (57:34):
Oh no, and I'm not.
Speaker 14 (57:36):
I'm literally not looking forward.
Speaker 1 (57:37):
So that's that's when you know you're a true student
there when you go, man, I get to I get
to I get to underneath the clock at nine am Monday, Wednesday,
Friday for bios I want to do, then you know
you're a student there, Isaiah Wats joining us right now.
All right, let's talk some hoops, buddy. You've got you're
down there at Vegas, which is awesome.
Speaker 13 (57:58):
Uh.
Speaker 1 (57:59):
Tell me about the that was named the all preseason
w c C team. You've been working out with Cedric Coward.
What does this dude all about?
Speaker 6 (58:06):
Man, He's all about just the right stuff. He comes in,
he works every day. He's just a super great dude.
I call him the multi talented king. He can tell,
he can, thank, he can, he can, he does all,
he does it all. So he's really all about the
right stuff. And you know, for me, finding a dude
that you know, loves to be in the gym and
(58:28):
loves to work as much as I do and sometimes
even more than I do, is really awesome to see.
Speaker 9 (58:34):
So.
Speaker 6 (58:34):
Uh, great dude.
Speaker 1 (58:37):
When one more guy I want to ask you about,
it's the other Watts Lawan Watts.
Speaker 6 (58:43):
Man Man Lawana is is. Uh, he's probably the you
guys think I have a big personality and a lot
of energy. Lawan is kind of the same way. It's
it's in the last name.
Speaker 7 (58:59):
I think that's.
Speaker 6 (59:01):
He's very much, very much like me, but maybe fifty
sixty pounds heavier and a couple of inches taller.
Speaker 1 (59:10):
Can he shoot like you?
Speaker 14 (59:12):
Okay, we're working on it.
Speaker 9 (59:16):
Were working on it.
Speaker 1 (59:18):
Isaiah watched joding us here on the Vicon Pubbing hotline
down at WCC Media Day. You guys were picked fifth
in the conference. I kind of when I first saw that,
I was like, yeah, I don't like that, And then
I thought, you know what, rather you guys be picked eleventh.
You were picked tenth last year. Your team was picked
tenth last year. Take me back to a year ago.
I mean, I know, different guys, different coach, but when
what like you went to West Seattle High School? You
(59:40):
didn't transfer to go And I bring this up for
this reason, Like in today's world, dudes in Seattle like
you end up somehow, you end up at Beach or
Oday or Garfield. Yeah, you went to West Seattle and
a two time All Metro League guy. But you went
to West Seattle. You didn't. You didn't chase something else.
You wanted to make your own name and carry your
own team and maybe kind of be the underdog role.
(01:00:02):
That's the case here too. Like I said, I'd rather
you guys be picked eleventh, But did you use last year,
did you guys, could you feel that to Kyle use
at his motivation when people pick you tenth?
Speaker 6 (01:00:13):
I think when the preseason polls came out, I think
we we all had a screenshot of it. It was
my wallpaper for like two weeks. So we really used
it and and and let that drive us to you know,
obviously get into the tournament and we really I want
to apologize to my cool fans because we should have
won to pack the regular season PAC twelve, but it
(01:00:35):
didn't happen like that.
Speaker 9 (01:00:37):
But I mean, yeah, we we just used that and
and ran with it.
Speaker 1 (01:00:41):
So you got and you got to the tournament, buddy,
that that might have that just had to be That
must have been incredible experience. How would you describe this team?
Because I when I look at you know, I you know,
the critics will say, oh, it's just Eastern Washington South,
I think it's you know, twenty five percent of the
roster of guys he brought down. But he brought down
the guys that could play. You added couple other dude
guys along the way. Uh, and then you and Parker
(01:01:03):
are still there? What what what is this team all about?
How would you describe this team.
Speaker 9 (01:01:08):
I feel like we're really just all about togetherness.
Speaker 6 (01:01:12):
We spend maybe eighty percent of our days together from
eight am to about five and then after practice we'll
have we've I say, I'm with them a little too much.
I don't even get to be by myself sometimes. But
we're always together. We're always hanging out, you know, off
(01:01:34):
the court, and we just we like to go for around.
We like to we like to have fun. We're just
all about having fun and being together.
Speaker 1 (01:01:40):
What's the style of play gonna look like?
Speaker 6 (01:01:44):
I'm excited for where we're gonna play fast, We're gonna
we're gonna play It's gonna be a lot of a
lot of points on the board, A lot of points
on the board, which is my favorite thing in basketball.
Speaker 1 (01:01:54):
Okay, well, yeah, what what's your game like now?
Speaker 9 (01:01:58):
You?
Speaker 1 (01:01:58):
I know there were times lastlast year. I know there
were times last year was probably a little frustrating. You
go in there, knock down a couple of shots, you'd
still play. You maybe missed one or two shots, and
next thing you know, you're back on the bench. Is
there a more consistent role for Isaiah Wats this season?
Speaker 6 (01:02:12):
Yes, for sure. I'm really looking to be a more
improved score and then also a playmaker for my teammates,
you know, just creating off of my jump shot. I
feel like I have one of the best jump shots.
This is this is confidence talking already, know, I feel
like I have one of the best jump shots in
(01:02:33):
the world. I have a great shooting coach with Donald Watts.
Speaker 1 (01:02:36):
Obviously, Donald Watts, we refresh our memory, that guy Donald
right right.
Speaker 6 (01:02:42):
But you know, my jump shot can create a lot
of different things. It can create the drive to the hoop,
it can create you know, passing lanes. It's gonna be fun.
I'm really excited. Took a big step this year.
Speaker 1 (01:02:55):
Well, I think I think we all are too. Listen,
I hear communications and broadcasting might be in your future.
So just you know, go ahead, get your get yourself
in that Merro department, and then wait for a year
or two until I'm ready to be done, all right,
because I don't need you taking my job there, kid,
I've got you, all right. I don't need that. I
don't need that happening anytime soon. I'll make s Hey
(01:03:15):
our best too. I know, Slick's still your Grandpa's still
kind of recovering and and your dad as well. And
I talked to Donald all the time. He sounds like
he's doing great. And Slick was one of my heroes
growing up, so uh and so many people my age
that he was.
Speaker 15 (01:03:27):
He was.
Speaker 1 (01:03:27):
He's a legend and I can't wait for him to
be out there when the NBA returns here in a
couple of years. And who knows, maybe there'll be another
Watch in an NBA uniform in Seattle someday. So go
get him, my friend. All right, we appreciate you jumping on.
Speaker 7 (01:03:38):
All right, Yeah, appreciate you.
Speaker 1 (01:03:40):
There you go, that's Isaiah Watts. We'll take a break,
come back. Don't forget factor fiction later Today a two
thirty five and ninety three point three KTERFM, Malkin.
Speaker 9 (01:03:49):
Shoots twenty on golda clutch and I stop, it's Crosby. Stop.
Speaker 1 (01:03:56):
This is the daily power play Deep Sluck one.
Speaker 5 (01:04:04):
Now Ian Ferns.
Speaker 1 (01:04:06):
Sports Radio ninety three point three.
Speaker 9 (01:04:12):
kJ r f M.
Speaker 1 (01:04:15):
Power played home for the krack of nine three point
three kJ r f M Cracking start a five game
home stand tonight against the Philadelphia Flyers, who roll into
town after a disappointing overtime loss in Edmonton. A couple
of nights ago. They kind of got screwed in that game.
Speaker 7 (01:04:32):
By the way, they got three two? Try that again?
Am I on here? Hello?
Speaker 1 (01:04:37):
Okay? Finally, but yeah, Nonetheless, they come in here towards
the team, the competitive team. They'll play hard tonight, kind
of big, heavy, like with expect from his team. Meanwhile,
the Kraken, they just dropped the four spot in the
third period in Nashville on that's what they do. That
helps them become the highest scoring kracking team through four
(01:04:57):
games in their short history. The bar wasn't very high,
but still this looks like a better team than they
have been. I got something for you, and I'll bring
this up during pre game again tonight. Yes, Mike Man
is here. By the way, you'll have.
Speaker 9 (01:05:09):
Me.
Speaker 1 (01:05:09):
I'm in the house of TV Man here. I'm honored
to be in front of TV Man.
Speaker 7 (01:05:13):
Stop it.
Speaker 1 (01:05:15):
We are all honored to be listening here to TV
and stop it. The perceived troubles of scoring goals or
so what we have read over the last three years. Correct,
listen to this. The seven goals that they scored on Tuesday.
They've done that now seven or more thirteen times since
(01:05:35):
they began that's fifth most in the lead. The only
teams that were better than them the Avalanche, the Maple
Leaves Andrews Farsus, Edmonton Oilers, and the Florida Panthers. And
I think that number of those goals exploding is awesome.
I then a lot of them came two years ago, right, Yeah,
I believe. I thought was the best part about it
(01:05:56):
was the fact that it was seven different guys scored
a goal and twelve guys. Does this not feel like
two years ago? Twelve guys had a point? Since they
feel like two years ago?
Speaker 10 (01:06:05):
Now?
Speaker 1 (01:06:05):
Gonna make a prediction tonight, please, the only full time
skater who doesn't have a point yet this season is
going to end that tonight I will be number fifty one,
Shane Wright. I hope you're right. It also my own
hot take, and I shared this back out in the hallway. Yeah,
this would be a Maddy been Years breakout game. You've
(01:06:25):
been waiting for that for two years. Mike, let Andrews
answer that one for you.
Speaker 4 (01:06:31):
Did we ask you to speak? I could turn I
could turn years off right now? We just got mad
since I taz him about two minutes ago. Here, all right, Sorry,
what do you got what you got from Bilesman.
Speaker 1 (01:06:42):
So today Chandler Stevenson playing in his five hundredth career
NHL game, and he's only been around in this room
for about a month, but Bilesman has seen him, of
course elsewhere and doesn't take one to figure out what
Stevenson's all about.
Speaker 4 (01:06:55):
And here's Bilesma, I'm Stevenson.
Speaker 15 (01:06:57):
Well, he's done it in a couple of different places,
with a couple of different championship teams. Just a solid,
you know, every night centerman in the middle of the
rink for a really good line throughout his career. And
just he's got a calming presidence a way about the
(01:07:17):
way he plays, and he's got a calling presidents by
the way he goes about his demeanor and that that's
rubbed off on the guys around him for five hundred
games now, four hundred and ninety nine.
Speaker 1 (01:07:30):
And maybe we're seeing something with the tweaks that we've
had in the last four games. And Dan Bilsman, we're
learning isn't afraid to tinker with lines and do it
quickly and often. And we're seeing Jayden Schwartz now play
with him, and he had a chef's kiss pass to
Schwartz in period one Tuesday, I should say actually period three,
(01:07:51):
but the ork Strand had the goal in period one
and finish that thing off with a snipe. But maybe
we're seeing something with that line grow right now Stevenson
with the York Strand Schwartz on the wings, they're going
with the same lines they did on Tuesday, So consecutive
games in which they have the exact same line combinations.
They haven't done that yet this season, right Eberly McCann, Stevenson,
(01:08:15):
York Strandon, Schwartz, Baniers, Anders, Beaneers, Barakowski and tol.
Speaker 15 (01:08:23):
And.
Speaker 1 (01:08:26):
They only get about about eight and a half minutes
of even strength time again again a game, so they
truly are a fourth line. But the Gordon tan of
Karchie line has been really good. That's not a fourth line.
They're getting fourth line minutes, but they're they're not playing
like a fourth line. They've given them a ton of energy.
The same defensive pairings done in Larsen Alexiak, Montour and
(01:08:47):
Evans and Morgan. Looks like we got to start tonight.
Speaker 14 (01:08:50):
Right, yes?
Speaker 1 (01:08:50):
Yeah, so last time he was then against the Flyers.
Speaker 4 (01:08:55):
He hates that he hates that he's joy kaxayt like that.
Speaker 1 (01:09:01):
You don't like that last time Grubauer was net against
the Flyers with two years ago and they blew them
out Philadelphia six two, six, six to two. That for
kracking the crack. That was the famous John Tortorella meltdown game.
You can't just say that. What there's been the last
few years, there's only been one reason. Give the context
(01:09:23):
of hockey in Seattle. I'll only say his name without
having an Italian accent.
Speaker 4 (01:09:27):
John.
Speaker 1 (01:09:28):
This is not the Larry Brooks meltdown game. It was
the Kracking Tortorella melt down. We love torts. We low
ourselves from towrts. All right. Broadcast time is six thirty
tonight on the Kraken Audio Network. Thank you. That's at
six thirty seven o'clock or so, drop of the puck

go by my orders. I am Ian Furness, the veteran.
Speaker 10 (01:10:15):
I think you're just such a twenty plus years in
this market. People have bystander effect. Everybody assumes that someone
got you.
Speaker 1 (01:10:21):
Every I need a magnetic schedule. If if you get
there before I do, grab me a couple of weeks,
it's going to say, I know, Ian Forness, you're not
gonna get anything the matchup word. You're gonna get absolutely nothing. Well, Saturday,
by the way, is a game against Calgary, and then
next Tuesday. Want to remind say that name correct? Calgary Calgary,
the Calgary Flames on the end of the season. Already
here on Saturday. Next Tuesday is a national game. It's
(01:10:43):
a five thirty drop of the plus you know who's
happy about that, David Maler another short show for that
for that group. Because you're the normal lately you'll be
on there at five on Tuesdays, right, okay, six thirty

calls and they drop off, immediately, dial in at two
o six two eight six ninety five ninety five. That's
(01:11:26):
the best way to get your questions answered. Funston standing by.
Speaker 5 (01:11:32):
Now from the Star Rentals Sports to us your ninety
three point three kJ R FM Sports head.
Speaker 1 (01:11:37):
On, brought to you by Frostbury, cores Light, Chioth Shill.
Breaking news out of the world of college basketball. Just
coming down a couple of moments ago. It'll become official
tomorrow at eleven am news conference. Virginia head coach Tony Bennett,
former Washington State head coach but a national champion head
coach at the University of Virginia. Tony Bennett will retire tomorrow,
(01:11:58):
effective immediately. I hope he's okay. I hope his family's okay.
But I kind of feel as if this is the
this is nil man, This is not a guy that's
gonna I'm guessing I'm hoping that's what it is. Not
nothing catastrophic health related, but the way he builds a team.
(01:12:18):
He's on. And that's not to say anil is a
bad thing for kids trying to make money, but building
a Coaches aren't about it, but he's about building a
program for four years. And I think he might have
hit the Nick Saban Jay Wright wall and said, yeah,
we're good. Anyway, that's a big news coming out of
college basketball today. Cracking flyers to night six point thirty
(01:12:38):
pre game seven o'clock drop of the puck WCC preseason
coaches polls out. Speaking of that, we talked to Isah
Isaiah Thomas, Isaiah Watts earlier. Isaiah Thomas aid, the hockey
game tonight, by the way, I heard, really yes, yeah,
Washington set number five. Gonzaga has won. Saint Mary's is
two on that list as well. Baseball playoffs resume right
about now, right, first games coming up here in a second.
(01:12:59):
I do believe we've got the first game, which would
be the Yankees in Cleveland. They're warming up right now,
first pitch moments away. Dodgers and Mets. Everyone wants the
Mets to win.
Speaker 2 (01:13:08):
Yeah, let's go.
Speaker 1 (01:13:10):
Everyone wants the Mets to win.
Speaker 2 (01:13:12):
Mike Benton's team.
Speaker 1 (01:13:14):
Five o'clock tonight. Let's get to it, Ladies and gentlemen.
Are you ready for the unofficial start of the weekend?
It is right now, bus right on, there's a long press.
Speaker 5 (01:13:23):
Here's side is the leading face of fantasy sports out
Even though you can't see him, trust us. It's time
for Ian's weekly visit with the Athletics Brendan Funston, brought
to you by Zeke's Pizza. Order online at Zeekspizza dot
com on your home for the NFL Sports Radio ninety
(01:13:44):
three point three kJ R FM.
Speaker 10 (01:13:49):
Ah.
Speaker 1 (01:13:49):
You hear the music, you hear the song, you hear
the intro. It's two to five on a Thursday afternoon,
in the heart of fall, middle of the football season.
And you know what time it is? Football season is here,
by the way, Thursday night football tonight. You can hear
it over on nine to fifty on the AM dial
the Peyton Bowl. Sean Payton heading back to New Orleans
with the Broncos five point fifteen is the first? Is
(01:14:11):
the kickoff? Funston? How are you? My friend?
Speaker 7 (01:14:14):
Good thing? Peyton's going back to New Orleans because how
else are you gonna sell Spencer Rattler versus bow Nicks.
Speaker 1 (01:14:21):
Hey, back in the day, that would have been Oklahoma
Aubren Yeah, and then later it would have been South
Carolina Oregon. God, what a world we live in?
Speaker 4 (01:14:31):
What a world?
Speaker 1 (01:14:32):
What's hey? What's the before I get to the phones?
What's the overriding theme in Fantasy football? Seven weeks in?
Speaker 9 (01:14:39):
Oh?
Speaker 7 (01:14:40):
The overriding theme? I think it's At first it was
offense was down. I think we're starting to see that rebound.
I think it's injuries. I mean, I just these guys
are the questionable tag is is alive and well? Right now?
I don't know that there's anything as far as like
positional you know, there's you know, the physitional depth issues
(01:15:01):
or anything like that. Tight end has been sucks. This
is not the first year that that's been the case.
It's just you know, more evident than ever this year.
But I would just I mean, when I'm when I'm
going to kind of like make rankings each week, it's
the injuries that are driving me crazy because it's you know,
more than ever, it's sort of like this gray area
with a ton of people each and every week. And
(01:15:23):
I don't know if that's just like coaches, you know,
wanting to throw everybody out there on the questionable tag
and you know and kind of leave things murky for
the for the opponent. But whatever it is, it's it's
driving me crazy.
Speaker 1 (01:15:35):
Well it's uh, it's probably uh, it's probably a lot
of a lot of the questions becoming in regards to
that as we go through the phones. Let's start first
as always, Mike and Edmonds. Hi, Mike, Hey, and Hi,
Hi Brandon, Hey, Mike so.
Speaker 3 (01:15:50):
Full PPR. I need two of these following four guys, Jayden, Reid,
T Higgins, DeVonta Smith or the newly revitalized A'mri Cooper
and thanks for doing this.
Speaker 7 (01:16:05):
Yeah, yeah, Mario Cooper now in Buffalo. I like the
landing spot. I'm not sure I would throw him out
there right away. It sounds I've read reports that maybe
he'll get somewhere around twenty five to thirty snaps, probably
won't get a full workload. You have enough good players
there that I think I'm going to lean Jaden Reid
against the Texans. They get after the quarterback really quick,
(01:16:25):
and I think Jayden Reid in the short area is
going to be a move for the Packers in that game.
And then t Higgins against the Browns. I think the
Browns like might have the best defense in the league.
It's being masked by a horrible offense. But I think'm
gonna go DeVonta Smith for the other one.
Speaker 1 (01:16:38):
All Right, there you go, Mike, Thank you. We'll hear
from me in a week's time. You know where we
go next? The two five three area code. Yeah, you're
not hold anymore. Ricky and Tacoma. What's up, buddy? All right?
All right, good buddy.
Speaker 6 (01:16:51):
How are you?
Speaker 9 (01:16:52):
Were?
Speaker 3 (01:16:52):
You good?
Speaker 9 (01:16:54):
Good?
Speaker 1 (01:16:54):
Good?
Speaker 9 (01:16:54):
Already for the weekend?
Speaker 16 (01:16:56):
All right, Well, I got a standard scoring question this time, Brandon.
I have Josh Downs j Smith's sister or Tyler Jr.
Which two should I go with.
Speaker 7 (01:17:08):
I'll tell you what. I'm a little bit concerned. I
mean Downs, I think he'll play, but Anthony Richardson box
a box of chocolates as a quarterback. I'm gonna go
Juju Smith Schuster chased that last game he had, and
then Tyler Alger against the Seahawks. You know he's probably
not going to be back. I mean, Seahawks the last
three weeks like one of the worst defenses in the league.
Speaker 1 (01:17:31):
Ricky is good news. It's good news and bad news
there for you, Ricky. All right, that's Ricky and Killma.
We uh, well, this is always an adventure.
Speaker 9 (01:17:39):
We had to be in.
Speaker 1 (01:17:40):
What's up? Rob and yet and yet.
Speaker 11 (01:17:48):
Here you are point half and.
Speaker 7 (01:17:54):
Wow, prob.
Speaker 2 (01:17:58):
I lost by a quarter of a point earlier that year.
Speaker 1 (01:18:00):
It's my father. Misery loves company. Wrong, Misery loves company.
It's out there, all right, What do you got for
for Funston?
Speaker 9 (01:18:08):
We'll set the seasons over. Do I go party or
do I go Hurts? Yeah?
Speaker 7 (01:18:14):
I would go. I would go party. I mean the
Chiefs defense is great. Did I say party? I meant
I met Hurts. Sorry, I was going going against party
because of the Chiefs defense. Hurt Scots. It has a
j Brown DeVonta Smith back. He looked a lot better.
People were getting on him, you know, for his downturn,
but that came with those two receivers out. He's you know,
(01:18:35):
looked a lot healthier now with those guys back. So
give me hurts, Rob, what is your record this year?
Speaker 9 (01:18:42):
Are six games in four?
Speaker 1 (01:18:47):
She's not over, buddy, You've got a lots of time.
Speaker 7 (01:18:48):
Let's go.
Speaker 1 (01:18:49):
What's your fine? I mean, I got guys in my league,
my man, my man, Roger Maggio, who's like he probably
points out the three time champion our league. He's he's
one and five and scored like maybe a total of
twenty points. Yeah, your season's over. Rob's still in it now.
One game can mean a lot.
Speaker 6 (01:19:04):
Man.
Speaker 1 (01:19:04):
You're still in it.
Speaker 7 (01:19:04):
You're still in it.
Speaker 1 (01:19:05):
We stay in burying Chris, how are you?
Speaker 14 (01:19:09):
I'd be better if I don't mirror the Seahawks and
lose a third game in a row. And now I'm
forced to sit Dak Prescott because he's.
Speaker 9 (01:19:20):
On a bye.
Speaker 14 (01:19:20):
Sank God. Yeah, So this week my question shifts to
the quarterback. All Right, here we go Aaron Rodgers, Trevor
Lawrence bow Knicks or Drake may or Daniel Jones. All
of these guys are open to me. And I'm I can't.
I can't do Justin Fields or anybody in Pittsbord.
Speaker 9 (01:19:40):
So I can't.
Speaker 7 (01:19:44):
I can't believe it. But I'm I'm looking at my rankings.
Drake May is my leader there. He's going against the
worst fantasy defense against quarterbacks and the Jacksonville Jaguars, and
and for that reason, because he can run a little
bit as well. He's threw it around last week so
looked look decent. So May, Yeah, give me Drake May.
(01:20:05):
Then I go Daniel Jones, then I go Trevor Lawrence,
and I go Aaron Rodgers. I have Aaron Rodgers at
Pittsburgh as my last of that group.
Speaker 1 (01:20:12):
Okay, there you go, Chris and Beer in two O
six two eight six ninety five ninety five. We got
time for a couple more calls. Two O six two
eight six ninety five ninety five or eight hundred eight
two nine O nine five year old two O six
two eight six ninety five ninety five. All right, Derek
and Sultan, what's up Derek?
Speaker 12 (01:20:28):
What's up?
Speaker 10 (01:20:28):
Guys?
Speaker 1 (01:20:30):
Oh god, this is like this is this is like
everyone's just like down. I need somebody to call in.
That's like feeling good? What's going on? Derek?
Speaker 12 (01:20:39):
Well, but you guys were talking about injuries earlier, and yeah,
I got Nico Collins, Christian McCaffrey and Olave eating up
my uh eat my benchmin so it's not pretty.
Speaker 1 (01:20:49):
No, no, I understand your I understand your downtrodden nature
right now.
Speaker 7 (01:20:53):
I get you.
Speaker 1 (01:20:54):
Now, what do you got for fun?
Speaker 12 (01:20:55):
I'm also two and four as well, so I'd really
like the win here. I actually have five wide receivers.
I was hoping you could pick two of them versus
Jerry Judy, and then we've got Khalil Shakir, Christian Kirk,
George Pickens, or a little Thursday Night action with bub Means.
Speaker 1 (01:21:16):
Yeah.
Speaker 7 (01:21:16):
I would put bub Means probably. That's just because Denver's
defense has been so good. I'm gonna go George Pickens.
We'll see if that moved to Russell Wilson.
Speaker 9 (01:21:25):
You know.
Speaker 7 (01:21:25):
I like that for the deep ball to open up there.
And I have Christian Kirk uh just two spots ahead
of Jerry Gudy as my second choice there against the Pats.
They've been fairly generous to wide receivers, and we have
Gabe Davis who's questionable. Evan Ingram is questionable, so there
might be a little bit more work for Kirk there.
Speaker 1 (01:21:43):
He goes back, thanks. Derek goes back to our conversation.
Start questionable questionable questions that seems to be the theme
of the year, right, two six ninety five ninety five,
Time for a couple more. Steven also insulted Hi Steven.
Speaker 8 (01:21:56):
Hey, this is fantasy football Anonymous.
Speaker 14 (01:21:58):
Correct?
Speaker 1 (01:21:59):
Yeah, yes, Hi Steven.
Speaker 11 (01:22:04):
So we need really a lot of help. I need
a quarterback. Unfortunately, because those male painter decided to take
the week off, so I'm stuck with either Gino Herbert,
who doesn't want his coach going on the throw anymore,
or picking up Kirk Cousins.
Speaker 7 (01:22:18):
I actually have Kirk Cousins number eleven this week against
the Seahawks. I have Geno thirteen at the quarterback spot,
so I have Herbert down a little bit more. So
give me kirk Cousins at home against the Seahawks. Yeah, Steve,
am I wrong? No you're not.
Speaker 4 (01:22:35):
I don't know.
Speaker 1 (01:22:35):
No, listen, No, you're not wrong. It's just sometimes the
truth hurts, right, Sometimes just the truth hurts along the way.
Jordan and Tacoma. What's up?
Speaker 9 (01:22:45):
Jordan?
Speaker 7 (01:22:46):
Hey guy?
Speaker 1 (01:22:47):
How you doing good?
Speaker 9 (01:22:48):
Good? All right?
Speaker 11 (01:22:49):
I got Trey question.
Speaker 8 (01:22:51):
Oh we like those so super Flex Dynasty League?
Speaker 11 (01:22:57):
Uh, Tank Bigsby and Jalen Right, and a first round
next year for Sam Laporta.
Speaker 7 (01:23:06):
Oh in a dynasty league, Yes, sir, give me. I'll
tell you what I'll I'll take the running backs in
the first rounder next year. For Laporta, we're seeing with
Jamison Williams being a thing and the two running backs
in the backfield, there's it's tough week in and week
out for Laporta to be, you know, a featured guy.
There's a lot of ball to spread spread around there.
(01:23:26):
But I think you're gonna get in jail and Wright
and Tank Bigsby, two guys that potentially could be leading
backfields in the next year or two. Plus you get
a first rounder next year. So for me, give me
the running backs in the first rounder.
Speaker 9 (01:23:37):
All right?
Speaker 7 (01:23:38):
Does that make?
Speaker 1 (01:23:38):
Thanks Jordan? That does that does?
Speaker 16 (01:23:41):
Thank you much?
Speaker 15 (01:23:42):
There you go.
Speaker 1 (01:23:43):
All right, two more calls and we get to the text.
Greg and Graham. What's up?
Speaker 9 (01:23:45):
Greg?
Speaker 12 (01:23:47):
Hey, how you guys doing good?
Speaker 7 (01:23:48):
Buddy?
Speaker 9 (01:23:49):
Hey, I've got Aaron Jones and he plays Sunday Night.
Speaker 8 (01:23:52):
So should I just put in George Pickens? And I
do have cam Akers to plug in possibly, And yeah,
I wouldn't.
Speaker 7 (01:24:00):
Yeah, I wouldn't mess with cam Akers. He just got there.
I know he has familiarity, but they have ty Chandler
as well. We'll see. If Aaron Jones plays, I think
I would just I would cover yourself. Yeah, I would
cover yourself with pickings for now. I mean hopefully you
know before Sunday morning what the situation is. But if
Aaron Jones plays, I'm playing him. Otherwise I'm going pickings
(01:24:21):
over all. Right, beautiful. Last phone call also in Graham Jacob, Hey, Jacob.
Speaker 14 (01:24:27):
Hey, how's it going to?
Speaker 9 (01:24:30):
What do you got?
Speaker 8 (01:24:30):
Hey, so PPR league?
Speaker 9 (01:24:33):
I need two receivers.
Speaker 14 (01:24:35):
I got a J Brown Molik Neighbors and Drake London.
Speaker 7 (01:24:40):
I think you just put him in the order. It
looks like Neighbors is trending towards playing. So I have
Brown Neighbors and London is my number eight wide receiver
overall this week. But I have the other two just
ahead of them.
Speaker 1 (01:24:52):
Beautiful. That's Jacob. That means we're done with the phone.
We had a ton of phone calls today. Thank you
for the phone calls, guys. That needs a little bit
less time for ourt tacks. But that's okay.
Speaker 9 (01:24:59):
Here there we go.
Speaker 1 (01:25:01):
And by the way, Jess has a Factor fiction pick
coming up. There I do Okay, I think.
Speaker 7 (01:25:05):
I know what it is.
Speaker 1 (01:25:06):
This is from right at the top of the hour.
We had a couple right at the top they nailed
the twelve o'clock hour. Ryan and Scottsdale. Dear mister fantasy.
I have Gino and Mahomes played Gino last week. Now
Cousins is available. Should I drop Gino or Mahomes for Cousins?
Speaker 7 (01:25:19):
Oh, I mean, if you're gonna drop either of them,
I wouldn't drop Mahomes. I guess you could drop Gino.
But Cousins is eleven, Mahomes is twelve, and Smith is
thirteen for me this week. So like, do you drop
one of those guys long term just to pick up
Cousins for one week when I only have him slightly ahead?
I would say I would worry about it. I just
I would go Mahomes in a very close call. All right.
Speaker 1 (01:25:42):
Also, high noon, twelve o'clock exactly, super flex need to
mayfield Gino Cousins. Dalton needs two of those quarterbacks. I
will go Baker and Cousins one second after the hour. Amazing,
Anthony Richardson or Gino Smith.
Speaker 7 (01:26:00):
Yeah, I actually have Geno higher than Anthony Richardson and
part of it is because Richardson's had a hard time
just finishing games. He comes in and he and he
doesn't finish him, and it is that.
Speaker 1 (01:26:12):
Bad for fantasy fundston.
Speaker 7 (01:26:13):
It's pretty bad, pretty bad.
Speaker 1 (01:26:15):
Check just checking.
Speaker 7 (01:26:17):
By the way, the Dolphins the fewest fantasy points allowed
to the quarterback position, So there's another dang against Anthony
Richardson this way.
Speaker 1 (01:26:23):
Here go half point PPR.
Speaker 9 (01:26:25):
Need one.
Speaker 1 (01:26:26):
Davante Adams at t end Bigsby Pittman singletary, I just
need one.
Speaker 7 (01:26:32):
I'm if, assuming Etm is out, I'm probably gonna lean
tank Bigsby to be very close. Listen to the listen
to the new the narrative about Davante Adams and how
much he's gonna play, because it'd be really close between
him and Bigsby.
Speaker 1 (01:26:44):
Keith Miller our buddy. One second after the hour, au
DeVante Adams, Jamison Williams or JSN and a half point PPR.
Speaker 7 (01:26:52):
Just one.
Speaker 1 (01:26:52):
I'm gonna go AYUK Standard League again. One second after
the hour, h M. Mooney for a flex position eight.
Speaker 7 (01:27:00):
Chan coming back from the concussion like a matchup. I
will take eight chan.
Speaker 1 (01:27:05):
One second after the hour still hal Jeer or Bigsby,
Thank you.
Speaker 7 (01:27:09):
I have I have Biggsby ranked a little higher. I
think Bijeon is gonna go off this week. I like Aljier,
but I think biggs By is gonna gonna run the
featured role for the Jaguars.
Speaker 1 (01:27:19):
Like that is that you texting him?
Speaker 10 (01:27:21):
No?
Speaker 7 (01:27:23):
Yeah, I got it.
Speaker 1 (01:27:24):
We're still two seconds after the hour. This isn't remarkable
once again by you, guys. Well done, Addison, Pittman, Ingram,
Romandre need one PPR.
Speaker 7 (01:27:32):
League h Ingram and Ramond. I don't think Ramandre is
gonna play honestly, Evan Ingram came back from a layoff,
had ten targets, caught ten balls. Trevor Lawrence loves him.
That's that's the way I go there. We like Addison,
just somebody wants to know to we like Addison, I
don't dislike him. I have Sam Darnold ranked pretty high
going against the Lions defense.
Speaker 1 (01:27:53):
Also, two seconds after Mahomes or Cousins, I got my.
Speaker 7 (01:27:57):
Cousins eleven, Mahomes twelve, so give me Cousins got two
more that came in like right at the top of
the hour.
Speaker 1 (01:28:02):
Hey, guys, I have a two part question. If Jonathan
Taylor is out again this week. To I start Algier
versus the Seahawks or Hunt versus the forty nine ers.
Speaker 7 (01:28:10):
I have Hunt versus the forty nine ers because I
think he's gonna be a little bit more of the
probably for the volume.
Speaker 1 (01:28:15):
Expectation, should be a little bit better than Algiers. We
got a trade question. Send Drake London and receive Tyreek Hill.
Yes or no?
Speaker 7 (01:28:24):
I actually like that if you're sitting, if you're sitting
in a I don't need I'm not must win territory
right now because Tua will be back, and we know
that once that happens, Tyreek goes back to being number
one or number two in the wide receiver position.
Speaker 1 (01:28:37):
Final one from Ben standard scoring need to Kirk Pittman
Sutton Judy.
Speaker 7 (01:28:43):
I'll tell you what I'm gonna go, Sutton, give me, give.
Speaker 1 (01:28:48):
Me Sutton these two Kirk Pittman, Sutton Judy. Then I'll
go Kirk for the other one.
Speaker 4 (01:28:54):
All right, half point PPR. Should I start Juju or
Christin Kirk?
Speaker 7 (01:28:57):
I like Jiuju?
Speaker 4 (01:28:58):
Okay, Standard Justin Herbert or c J. Stroud.
Speaker 7 (01:29:03):
Yeah, CJ. Stroud, I think by a by a good
margin here.
Speaker 4 (01:29:05):
Any chance either of my pups are playing t J.
Hawkinson or Nick Chubb.
Speaker 7 (01:29:10):
It sounds like Nick Chubb is gonna play there. They're
being evasive about how much they'll play him, but like
the matchup against the Bengals, and I think, you know,
I think they'll get him at least ten to twelve.
Speaker 4 (01:29:20):
Car he's scrambling to his wave of wire.
Speaker 7 (01:29:22):
I don't know.
Speaker 4 (01:29:26):
Full PPR means or Slayton in the.
Speaker 7 (01:29:29):
FLEXU with with Neighbors back. I think that kind of
kills Slayton's value. So give me means who will definitely
be starting tough matchup, but he'll be getting a lot
of run.
Speaker 4 (01:29:38):
Full PPR in Joku or Andrews? Do you believe in
the Mark Andrews resurgence a little bit?
Speaker 7 (01:29:43):
And I actually ranked him a little higher than they
have the last few weeks. But in Djoku with with
a MARII Cooper Gone, I think he's gonna get a
ton of work.
Speaker 4 (01:29:51):
So I have in Djoko higher Patrick Mahomes or c J. Stroud,
c J. Stroud one of three full PPR last one
here bigs beat Irving or Mostert.
Speaker 7 (01:30:02):
I'm gonna go Bigsby again, And sounds like Bucky Irvans
and then now a the dreaded three headed Monster because
Sean Tucker is they're talking about him being in play
with Rashad White as well.
Speaker 4 (01:30:13):
Three headed monsterheaded monster. I went from one to two
punch to three headed monster.
Speaker 1 (01:30:17):
Now, huh, what's your thoughts on Devin Singletary this week?
Speaker 7 (01:30:21):
Still kind of still hanging in the balance, So I
think we're gonna see you still see a decent amount
of tyrone Tracy even if he is back.
Speaker 1 (01:30:28):
Yeah, I did scramble to the waiver wire just update you.
It didn't matter because the commissioner we already has me
up somehow shocking shocking development.
Speaker 4 (01:30:37):
Darnal Mooney or Jacoby Myers. This is in Andrews question.
Speaker 7 (01:30:40):
Yeah, that's a that's a Darnel Mooney for me, although
I don't don't dislike Jacoby Myers this week. Either.
Speaker 4 (01:30:46):
All right, sweet, we're good. Yeah, Jess, you have a question.
Speaker 2 (01:30:50):
Actually you answered it though ready My biggest one.
Speaker 10 (01:30:53):
No, I didn't Elie neighbors, which I mean everybody's wondering
about him, so that's why that got asked a couple
of times.
Speaker 7 (01:30:58):
But yeah, it's it's a simple as if he's in
here playing him. Yes, it's such a volume hog Uh.
Speaker 1 (01:31:05):
Thanks to everyone, the callers. You guys were awesome today.
We had the phone lines packed out like ten minutes
before the segment. We packed him out throughout the segment
and then the text. When we can get fifteen of
them in the first five seconds at the top of
the hour, that's a that's a remarkable accomplishment. You guys
never cease to amaze. Fund San people to get their
questions answered work and they go, yeah, you can.
Speaker 7 (01:31:24):
Shake off your gloom and go to go to the
athletic and look at my colleague Jake Seely's rankings. Help
you out, make you feel better about your rosters for
the Sunday and if you still, you know, have questions,
you can show up on Sunday morning. We have a
guy that will answer your your start sick questions about it.
Forty five minutes before kickoff is when he finishes.
Speaker 1 (01:31:44):
Is there any help for Rob I don't think there is.
Speaker 7 (01:31:46):
I just say you noticed that it was back to
back beery and it was it was really yeah, it was.
It's cloudy over there today.
Speaker 1 (01:31:54):
I don't think Sultan was much better. To be honest,
we are back Sultan. Guys weren't much better today, all right,
Thanks Buss. We'll talk to you next week.
Speaker 7 (01:32:02):
All right, I have a good one.
