Greg co Cell is here and last year during the
bye week, I had this brainstorm. I don't come up
with a lot of good ideas, Greg, but I thought
I had one last year. It worked so well. We're
going to do it again. Can we bring our friend
Hugh Millen in for a conversation today? How does that sound?
Speaker 4 (01:58):
Yeah, well, finally gets I'm intelligent conversation here. Then about
the Seahawks. Oh yeah, grag and green Ewan.
Speaker 5 (02:05):
You're hitting your lines already, Greg.
Speaker 4 (02:06):
Good, right, he's gotta scrap here all weekend, you know,
you know, yeah.
Speaker 3 (02:12):
Just tip your server, try the vele have some fun. Okay, Uh,
here's what we're gonna do.
Speaker 2 (02:16):
We're gonna spend and I know it's gonna take We'll
spend some time on this today. We're gonna talk just
kind of defense and offense, and what we kind of liked.
What I like doing is let Hugh kind of take
over sometimes and he and Greg talk and then I
just sit back and you me all the listeners. We
learned something in general terms. We're gonna do part of
a defense and then part of it offense, and Hugh
all kind of toss it to you with what you
(02:36):
want to go with with with Greg. But I'll just
say this that you told us you when Mike McDonald
was hired you he thought he was maybe the best
defensive mind or one of the best defensive minds you've
seen in a while. H We're really seeing that come
to fruition this season. To you, I'll turn it over
to you and Greg your thoughts on the defense so
far five game or seven games into the season.
Speaker 6 (02:54):
Yeah, I want to get Greg's take because he's you know,
he looks at all thirty two teams, so he can
be in many ways more objective than the rest of us.
But but Greg, let's just start with the rush defense.
I think there's five parts of football. How you pass
the ball, how you run it, how you defend the pass,
how you defend the run, and then special teams I
think are all about a fifth and I think that
(03:14):
the if I'm right on that, my contention would be
the rush defense is the best component of Seattle's football team.
They're number one in the NFL in rushing yards per
game around allowed it at just under ninety six or
excuse me, seventy six, seventy six rushing yards per tempt
their second. But in rush EPA, there's expected points that's
(03:39):
emerging as a high correlation statistic. They're by far number
one in the NFL. Just kind of what's your take
when you watch the tape about how they stop the run.
Speaker 4 (03:51):
Well, actually, I really love the way certain players have
really developed. I mean, to me, the one player that
really stands out guys is Byron Murphy. You know, he
was the number one pick last year, the second defensive
player chosen in the draft. Struggled in his rookie season
with injuries, you know, couldn't play every single week. And
(04:12):
just when I watched him now on film taking on
double teams. I mean, there was a play this week
and it just when I noticed it, I actually called
in some of the guys from my matchup show just
because the way he was able just to hold his
ground and therefore maintain his gap integrity when he was
being double team by probably seven hundred pounds of offensive line,
(04:34):
I thought was just incredible. And I think you're seeing
all the traits that he brings to the table, because
I obviously evaluated him in detail coming out of Texas
probably for two years, and I think he's been a
major force we know about Williams. Williams is just a
very versatile player. You know, he can line up at
D n he can line up at D tackle. And
(04:55):
clearly they made the change at linebacker. What was that
about three weeks ago, where now Drake Thomas is now
now the starter and instead of Night And I think
you're dealing with a guy that's just got more quickness
to him, or athleticism to him. I think he has
a quicker trigger. So I think that these are the
things that stand out to me. You, I'm sure there's
other things that have stood out to you as well.
Speaker 5 (05:16):
Yeah, I'd like to get your take on.
Speaker 6 (05:19):
Let's talk about Byron Murphy there for a second, because
you know, here's a guy that at Texas was primarily
a three tech, right he played nose tackle, but primarily
he was a three tech. But at Seattle, Leonard Williams
is your three tech, right, So so Byron Murphy having
to play the shade the one tech you know, guys
in the a gap between the center and the guard
(05:40):
and really over the center shoulder that that's not maybe
his ideal spot. But when I watch how the Seahawks
build a wall, you know, it's it's like they play
a gap and a half. Greg, you know the idea
of a single gap, Okay, we just want to penetrate
and get up in the and be disruptive, and then
(06:00):
there's the two gap all right, let's just play center
cut on the offensive lineman be able to react to
either gap.
Speaker 5 (06:06):
The Seahawks plait. They build that wall by playing a
gap and a half.
Speaker 6 (06:10):
They get into the gap, but they main contact with
the offensive lineman and they're in a position to still
throw the lineman and get into the other gap. It
takes a lot of strength to do that, but when
you have everybody doing it, man that they are really
building the wall, forcing running backs to spill. Talk about
(06:30):
Murphy in that regard, and then just the the overall
scheme that you see as it compares to the thirty
one other teams and how they defend the run.
Speaker 4 (06:38):
Yeah, I mean, you know, I don't know if schemematically
they're they're you know, there's not as you know, there's
not one hundred ways to play your defensive front. But
that gap and a half is a very common way
teams want to play now, just because you know, in
a sense it requires one less player to be able
to cover all the gaps, and that allows you to
do more with your pass defense, and particularly the way
(07:00):
they play pass defense, which I think we need to
talk about in detail as well, because what Mike McDonald
does there I find phenomenal. But anyway, you know, Murphy,
even though he's not a pure three technique, he's still
lining up essentially in a gap, and that's the way
he plays best because he has great initial quickness off
the ball. So even if he's not just penetrating a gap,
(07:22):
he at least has explosion off the ball and can
use because he's so low cut to the ground, with
such a low center of gravity, he can still be
explosive and use that strength and be a factor. So,
you know, I think he to me, I guess I
would say, you know, based on my study, and you
might go through it a little more in detail, you
(07:44):
but in my study, I think that he's a major
difference from a year ago in what they run defense
is this year because he's now playing at a really
high level.
Speaker 6 (07:53):
Yeah, I think his recognition, I think his strength. I
think he's adopted to the McDonald the gap and a half,
the idea that he's he's more in the middle of
the defense. Let's shift you you touch on the pass defense.
Touch on some statistics opponent attempts. The Seahawks are thirty,
so they're seeing a lot of pass attempts, but passing
(08:14):
yards per attempt, the Sea Owks are fifth best in
the league. Yards per completion their third best, So there's
things that are showing up. And then also obviously this
relates to pass defense. They're number one in hurries at
sixteen point four pressure percentage they're number four, So a
lot of good things happening in the past defense. What
(08:37):
do you see that catches your eye? And Greg Cosel's
with us comparing Seattle to the other thirty one.
Speaker 4 (08:44):
Teams, well, a couple of things really stand out to me.
First of all, this team plays Nickel at a higher
percentage than any team in the league. And obviously with
Nick m and wary Back, who I thought was the
best safety prospect in the draft, he is an incredibly
versatile player. And I don't know if Mike McDonald's sees
him similarly to Kyle Hamilton, who he had in Baltimore,
but I see him that way, and my guess is
(09:05):
that the coach does somewhat as well. The other thing
I would say is what's really stood out is the
way they made a change on the back end. Josh
job is now clearly the boundary corner. He was not
the boundary corner a year ago when he was essentially
their nickel who played on the outside, and now he's
seen as their best outside corner, and I think he's
played that way and the other thing that really stands
(09:27):
out to me, and this is what I love about
watching tape and about seeing the way guys coach. And
it's why sometimes I wish I just had the batphone
and can call up the coach while I'm watching tape.
You know, because you go back two weeks you and
they played Jacksonville, okay, and in that game they rarely
ever blitzed. Okay, I think they rushed five or more
on five of Lawrence's dropbacks, and they had an unbelievable
(09:50):
four man d line pass rush with a very high
pressure rate, as you remember. But then this week they
played the Houston Texans and they amp up the pressure.
This was a a big pressure week in terms of
blitz And see, to me, I always love and not
that Mike McDonald needs me to say, you know, whether
he's good or bad at something. Believe me, you know
there's a lot more than I do. But I love
(10:12):
that he's not beholden to just one way of playing
every week like this, is what we do. No matter
what you know, he changes up what he does based
on his sense of the opponent. He can come up
with different tactics and different schematics. And I just think,
to me, that's just a sign of really good coaching.
Speaker 6 (10:29):
Yeah, I couldn't agree more. And to put some numbers
to that five man rushes. Coming into the game, Mike
McDonald had had just averaged five and a half per
game against Houston, thirteen thirteen dropbacks, produced two sacks on
those five man rushes and CJ. Strod was seven eleven
sixty two yards and a seventy nine sub eighty passer
(10:52):
rating and then the six man rush greg All season,
Mike McDonald only four six man runs rushes, two against Arizona,
two against New Orleans.
Speaker 5 (11:02):
Against Houston he had.
Speaker 6 (11:04):
Five stroud goes, one for five for five yards and
an interception and a rating of zero, which is actually
worse than if you just threw the ball on the
ground because you get a thirty nine because you didn't
throw an interception. So there's some numbers to that. What
about the personnel that might have impressed you in that
you mentioned Emon Worry, Let's touch on that because because
(11:28):
we've only seen five plays with Seattle, with Emon Worry
and with Witherspoon both healthy.
Speaker 5 (11:34):
Witherspoon has been the nickel.
Speaker 6 (11:36):
Now you project Emon Worry to be the nickel, you know,
we're gonna see probably Spoon more outside or more dime like, like, like.
Speaker 7 (11:44):
What are you going to be?
Speaker 4 (11:44):
A really interesting question, right And because Emmont Worry to me,
I mean, is that kind of player? I mean, because
obviously Love's going to be back, Bryant's a solid safety.
Just a quick aside. I also think it's a sign
a really good coach when you put your backups in
like Okada and he plays well for a couple of weeks,
you know, I think that's a good sign of how
(12:05):
you prepare guys and how they when they get the opportunity,
they play well. But just getting back to the original point,
I'm really curious to see what they do when Witherspoon
is back, because obviously he's been the slot corner when
they go Nickel and em and Worry, that's kind of
what he is. I mean, he's sort of that that
kind of movable chess piece on the board, and I
(12:26):
think he's really good at that. So the question becomes.
You know, I don't know what they I know there's
probably been a lot of talk on I'm not out there.
You know, Ian, you could probably be addressed a far
better than I. I don't know if there's talk about,
you know, woln possibly being traded because I think job
has clearly been their number one corner for most of
their season. And yeah, you know, does Witherspoon stay on
(12:48):
the outside? I personally would not like to see him
and or come off the field. I don't know what
the coaching staff thinks, but I think he's such a
unique player that can do multiple things for you. I
don't think you want him playing twenty snaps again.
Speaker 2 (13:00):
Yeah, just I'll jump in, by the way, if you're listen,
just tuning in right now, that's Greg Cosel. You know
Greg on Fridays at this time. That's Hugh Millen. He's
he's with us today. We did this last year in
the Seahawk bye week. And trust me, I'm just getting
the hell out of the way because I love to
listen to these two guys talk football.
Speaker 3 (13:13):
Man.
Speaker 2 (13:13):
This is awesome for me to answer question Greg. I
think there has been that conversation out there, you know,
We've talked about it amongst the media out there at
the facility and so forth. They I think what they
saw in Hugh you know this as well as I do.
Like I think what they saw when all of a
sudden they lost a couple of guys when Wollan was
out and they're down to the Pritchett world and stuff
like that, it got a little dicey, and so I'm
(13:34):
not sure. I think depth at corner might be something
that they cherish more than a fourth or fifth or
sixth round draft pick.
Speaker 6 (13:40):
Yeah, Greg, you know, I think Wolan had a pretty
good game. I thought against Houston. I think this ceiling
is high, his floor is low. The gap between, you know,
I think there's an inconsistency issue. But you know, there's
not a lot of guys walking around in a mall
that can step on an NFL field and shadow you know,
NFL wide receivers. I think they may be. You know,
(14:01):
I don't think that Woolan is McDonald's style. I don't
think he's you know, I don't think he's gritty and
tough the way he'd like him. But he's a hell
of an athlete, you know. I just I think You're
right to be curious about that, but I want to
hit you up back on a follow up on em
and Warriy, because you said he was your favorite safety
(14:21):
coming out Kyle Hamilton, just as a reminder, the first
team All Pro safety for the Baltimore Ravens. Obviously that
that Mike McDonald coach in Baltimore. You had an expectation
when you watch on his tape at South Carolina. Now
you're seeing him on the field for a few weeks
he'd been injured. Let's let's really get granule on Nick
(14:44):
Amm and Worriy. What you see, how he differs from
Kyle Hamilton, how he may be like or unlike what
you expected when you watch the tape coming out of college.
Speaker 4 (14:55):
Well, the one thing he's not doing in Seattle, which
he did at South Carolina was playing on the back end,
which I think he's capable of as well. But he's
mostly been used as a you know, depending on what
the offensive formation is that down in distance the field location,
he's either been in the box, he's been an overhang
player just outside the box, or he's lined up over
the slot receiver. So he's essentially lined up in those
(15:18):
three areas they move him around a bit. You know,
I guess it's funny talking about what happens when Witherspoon
comes back. It raises the question. You know, they've not
been a dime defense in pure pass situations. They've only
played sixteen snaps of dime all season long. They're a
high high percentage nickel defense at about eighty eight percent.
The question, you is, when Witherspoon comes back, do they
(15:41):
perhaps become more of a dime defense and play You know,
Jones obviously would be the linebacker that would stay on
the field because he's kind of a do it all
guy as well. But maybe that's the answer.
Speaker 7 (15:53):
I don't know. Again, that's up to the coach.
Speaker 4 (15:55):
But you know, like I said, I don't feel and
Witherspoon is a really good play two who brings a swagger,
a toughness and competitiveness to your defense, and you want
him out there. He's just a good football player. But
I just don't believe you want to take m and
Worry off the field for meaningful snaps.
Speaker 6 (16:11):
No doubt, Greg Cosel with us and Greg, I think
Emon Warry is just a star in the making, just
a big, beautiful athlete, very fluid, the acceleration in that
short area, you know, eight ten, twelve yards. His tackling
has been a lead. I think his recognition is getting
better and better. You saw that deflected play where he
was the curl defender on the backside.
Speaker 5 (16:31):
He jumps with his length, has recognition.
Speaker 6 (16:34):
He hits a skid route coming from the opposite side
on a big pass breakup.
Speaker 3 (16:39):
I love that.
Speaker 6 (16:40):
Let's close on the defense with a final thought of
concern that I have and it's reflected in these numbers
the pressure rate for the Seahawks. This is their defense
against quarterback. They're number two in the NFL in quarters one, two,
and three. However, in quarter number four twenty second the
(17:01):
Houston Houston Texans, they had fourteen drives in the game.
Their longest two drives were the last two drives against
Tampa Bay three drives of seventy plus yards all in
the second half. Against Arizona two touchdown drives of seventy
three and fifty seven yards in the fourth quarter, the
fourth down collapsing in the forty nine ers. That they
(17:23):
have consistently been a very sub average defense, you know,
particularly in past defense in the fourth quarter. What do
you see in terms of those pressures. I think maybe
Derek Hall just to get the rotation, you know, maybe
missing one guy because maybe they're getting gas because they
play at such a high energy before you see you
(17:44):
see the tape, you see a lot of teams.
Speaker 5 (17:46):
What are you seeing in that regard?
Speaker 4 (17:48):
What I would say is this. I would say that
for the most part, none of their edge rushers and
I don't think they're bad players you by any means.
It's not as if they're bad players. But I don't
think they have that one guy.
Speaker 8 (18:00):
You know.
Speaker 4 (18:00):
I go back to Bill Walsh talking about, you know,
the key to defense is pass rush in the fourth quarter,
and you just hit on a really important point. I
don't think they have that one guy that you necessarily
have to account for as an offense where you say, hey,
we better block him. It might mean we have to
chip him, we might have to double team him. I
don't think they have that one guy on the edge
(18:21):
that has stepped forward at this point to be that
guy that you have to deal with in that way.
So I think there's some guys that have some good traits.
And Derek Hall has been out and I don't know
if he can develop into that guy. But you know,
I think up to this point, Nuosu and and Mafi
have not necessarily shown that they're that guy. They're not
(18:43):
bad players, but I don't think they've shown that they're
the guy you have to account for by it, you know,
from a defensive perspective. Excuse me, from an offensive perspective.
Speaker 3 (18:51):
Yeah, agreed.
Speaker 6 (18:52):
And we spend a lot of time in the summer
talking about, hey, they don't have that you know, let's
use a baseball term aircraft carry in the middle of
the lineup at defense of end. But but I thought,
you know, getting back to McDonald's coaching acumen, coming off
of that brutal game against UH against Tampa Bay. I mean,
it's like their defense, you know, every other game they
(19:14):
look like Megan Fox. And they had one week where
they looked like Rosie O'Donnell. You you know, so there's
a lot of things I have not been able to.
Speaker 7 (19:22):
U.
Speaker 5 (19:22):
Yeah, you know, hey, just want to keep make sure
that you're paying attention.
Speaker 6 (19:26):
But he got me, get right, But but just always
looks like Megan Fox, by the way.
Speaker 5 (19:33):
But yes, but but the.
Speaker 6 (19:36):
Uh, let's let's talk about the the scheme adjustments we
talked about. There was a lot more pressure against the
Texans the week before against Jacksonville, seven sacks against Trevor Lawrence,
a lot of stunts, and I thought DeMarcus Lawrence, as
we're talking about inns, that was like the fastest I'd
seen him on tape in a long time. He looked like,
I don't know, I said, I don't know if he's
(19:57):
playing in front of his home, you know, his high school,
hometown crowd or whatever it was. So I thought all
those stunts, the outside stunts, the inside stunts, they schemed
up to get Mike McDonald should say, schemed up to
get a lot of sacks there. And that's where the
pass rush really came alive a lot due to just
the scheming.
Speaker 4 (20:16):
And I think that's the critical piece. I thought they
had a high volume stunt game versus the Texans, and
we'll see if they continue to do that. And then
I think it's a matter of pressure scheming up. I mean,
you talk about the fourth quarter again. Obviously there is
a delineation point between third and fourth quarter, but look
what they did on third and ten with the Okada sack.
The late in the third quarter of this past week,
(20:36):
it was a six man front, it became a five
man overload pressure. Obviously, the way they chose to the
way the Texans chose to pass protect, Okata ended up
being a free hitter because of the way, you know,
the overload concept. So the question is do you start
doing more of those things? Do you start trying to
create more overload pressure concepts understanding how teams pass protect?
Speaker 3 (20:58):
All right, we got to jump in here real quick
and take you know what we gotta do. We're gonna
do this.
Speaker 2 (21:02):
We're gonna carry this thing over to Monday because we
got to talk about the offense. All right, We're gonna
carry this thing over to Monday. So here's the deal.
Hugh was on your segment today, Greg, Greg, you're gonna
be in Hughes segment on Monday on Hardcore Football.
Speaker 3 (21:14):
As that sound okay?
Speaker 4 (21:16):
Don's okay to me?
Speaker 3 (21:17):
All right?
Speaker 2 (21:18):
That might have been the best segment of radio ever
on my show because I think I spoke a grand
total of a minute and a half, which people are
saying that can you just do that every day from
one to three e and that'd be great. I don't
think these guys are gonna do that every day we'll
take a break, we'll come back. Danie O'Neil is gonna
join us next. We're gonna talk on Monday during hardcore football,
just like this, Well not we Greg and who you
(21:38):
are about the offense that's coming up on Monday at
two o'clock.
Speaker 3 (21:41):
In the meantime, Danie O'Neil coming up next nine three
point three KTERFM.
Speaker 1 (21:54):

Now here's he in with Danny one.
Speaker 2 (22:21):
Danie O'Neil joined us every week. Big thanks in north
Bust Handling Systems. By the way, Danny, I think you
were on hold. Could you hear that spot? Are you
going to download the Dodgers podcast if we can't wait
to hear here in Seattle?
Speaker 9 (22:34):
I did not plant to.
Speaker 2 (22:37):
I mean, God, but you know what's interesting, I'll give
I don't I think that's who everyone hears rooting force
may be right, I mean I think everyone here's root
for the Dodgers.
Speaker 9 (22:51):
Now, yeah, it's weird. So I don't know what's gonna
happen when first pitch goes because on on just the
general principle, I don't like super teams. I don't like
teams that gets resources stacked because basically everybody decides they're
gonna go play for the great team, and that's that's
(23:13):
clearly the Dodgers. But I also don't care for the
Toronto Blue Jays all that much, and I'm still salty
and bitter. So maybe it will be because I was thinking, like,
the Dodgers have great uniforms. The Dodgers, I think have
the most beautiful uniforms in baseball. So maybe that is
the tipping point.
Speaker 7 (23:32):
I don't know.
Speaker 9 (23:33):
I'm gonna I'm interested to see because there's other times
when with USC in the Big Ten, I wonder, Okay,
am I gonna start changing how I feel about USC?
And I've always hated USC and nope, nope, I still
hate USC. It was really happy when Notre Dame absolutely
buried them. So there's there's times where I'm kind of
(23:54):
pleasantly surprised to find out which which way my emotions
are actually going. Sometimes I surprised my.
Speaker 2 (24:01):
Yeah, well, because we can't listen. Nobody can understand other
people's fandom, much less your own fandom. Right, So, like
I I, you know, I'm watching the Twitter war between
Moyer and Softy right now, enjoying every second of it.
And you know, like like Dave's right, like, hey, don't
tell us how to fan. Don't tell people how to mourn.
(24:23):
Like if people were sideways or upset, let them do it, man.
I mean, that's just the way it is. But uh,
let's but that part of it's awesome anyway.
Speaker 8 (24:32):
I agree with Softy.
Speaker 3 (24:34):
I do too, Like like.
Speaker 2 (24:36):
Paul, have a clue, buddy, Like, like, there's forty seven
thousand people packed in that ballpark, there's hundreds of thousands
in the area that we're just strawt when this thing
came to an end for a variety of reasons, like
don't tell people to get over it, like especially when
you work in sports, like well, Seahawks had a tough loss.
(24:57):
Let's go to the postgame show, Get over it, Paul,
Come on, man, what are you doing?
Speaker 9 (25:01):
I would say the firm rules are you're not allowed
to hit someone else and you're not allowed to break
their stuff. But pretty much other than that, I think
you're allowed to say whatever you want. Now there may
be consequences for what you say, and you can break
your own stuff if you're a fan like these are
these are the things, And yes, that's part of the
(25:23):
If it's not in the Bill of Rights, it should be.
Speaker 2 (25:26):
O'nil joining us Roger about Northwest handling systems. All right,
you wrote about it in the day Apostrophe, but let's
do it verbally here on the air.
Speaker 3 (25:36):
I don't know. Do you want to play blame game?
Do you want to look back at the season as
a whole? What do you want to do?
Speaker 9 (25:43):
I want to look back at the season as a whole.
And I'm trying really hard to and not play the
blame game because the reality is.
Speaker 3 (25:50):
That it's kind of impossible.
Speaker 9 (25:53):
Yeah, it's it's hard. I was going to be mad
at something and it just happens that it's the bullpen
management that ends up being But in terms of mistakes
that have been made over time, I don't think. I mean,
I agree with the thought process that led to the
(26:13):
Seahawks throwing the ball at the goal line. I don't
agree with the past they threw. I think, I think
the past thing, but I agree with the decision making
process on that, And I think this falls in the
same line with that, where I don't I don't fully
agree with how it ultimately played out, but I see
(26:33):
where they were going, and I'm ultimately this this wasn't
some case of like cavalier mismanagement, like I feel like
a lot of people believe. And I think that's just
because of the size and stakes that were at hand,
that it was the magnitude of what there causes you
to you have to be mad at something, So let's
(26:54):
be irrationally mad at at Dan Wilson's decision because it
I can see how he and handled it the way
he did. I wish that Munyos was in the game,
but look, man, when Munyos came in, he got knocked
around too, So there's no guarantee that another route would
have ended up getting you home to face.
Speaker 3 (27:12):
Yeah, I think the two things.
Speaker 9 (27:14):
First.
Speaker 2 (27:14):
I'll get back to to Super Bowl forty nine a second,
but the as far as the decision we had. You know,
Sarah sni is one of our baseball guys this week
on on yesterday, he brought up a great point and
this his specialty with the athletic and baseball stuff is pitching,
and he studies this stuff more intently than any of
us do. And he he brought up the point and says,
here's the problem. He said, when you get into a
(27:35):
seven game series, the data shows you that when when
good hitters see a pitcher for a third time, not
a third time through the order like in one game,
but a third time i e. A reliever, then the
rate of success for that picture drops dramatically. Well, Bizartro
was that guy, and you hadn't used Brash as much.
You certainly had. You hadn't used Munyos much at all.
(27:57):
And that's why he said it was a bad decision.
I mean, based on the analytics and the numbers and
the data that we have today, it was a bad
decision because it was bizarre O going getting run out
there for the umpteenth time in that series against that
lineup that doesn't strike out. It was a bad decision
by Dan Wilson. There's no other way around it, but
you know what it happened, and it's very Mariner like,
(28:20):
we just we got kicked in the you know what
I I. It's you and I might be the only
two guys that are on that the page of I
can kind of understand super Bowl forty nine, and I
I always did for this reason because of the what
do you have, like the one time out left, I
mean time timeouts left clock, you were going to have
to throw it at some.
Speaker 7 (28:40):
Point, yes, but you knowing it.
Speaker 2 (28:44):
Yeah, but throwing into a mosh pit to Ricardo Loquette,
that's not where you do it like that just that's
just not what you do.
Speaker 9 (28:54):
That's exactly right, because the situation they're in, they have
three plays and the timeout that they have to make
sure that you get each of your three chances. One
of those plays is going to have to be a throw,
and they decided it was going to be a throw
with the goal line package that the Patriots had in there.
But I would agree, you don't throw it over the middle.
(29:15):
You don't throw it over the middle to Ricardo Lockett,
And you don't throw it over to Ricardo the middle
to Ricardo Lockett when you're planning on Jermaine Curse being
able to fight off not get ragged all.
Speaker 3 (29:28):
By Brandon Browner.
Speaker 9 (29:30):
That's the part of the decision.
Speaker 7 (29:31):
That was tough.
Speaker 2 (29:32):
Yes, especially since Jermaine Curse got you there with a
catch in after all the drops in overtime. Maybe we
reverse the roles. Lockett's a little Lockett's a bigger receiver.
Speaker 3 (29:43):
We're gonna go down that road and we both be mad. Okay,
real quick before I let you go, quick thoughts.
Speaker 2 (29:49):
I know you wrote about it, but summarize your thoughts
on a lot of us are optimistic about the Seahawks. Danny,
are you pessimistic about the Seahawks.
Speaker 9 (29:57):
I'm not pessimistic. I'm at the same spot I was
when the season started, which is, I think they've got
a really good defense, and I've got some questions about
their offense. And I feel like Sam Donald, the way
he's played, everybody's like, Okay, the offense is no longer
a question.
Speaker 3 (30:13):
I'm like, I don't know about that.
Speaker 9 (30:16):
I'm not sure they're they're committed to fair number of turnovers.
And the quarterback who's that's kind of been his mo
over his career that one of the problems has been
losing fumbles. He's lost a couple of fumbles in big,
big situations. I think I think they're going to win
the division. I'm just I'm still when I look at
this team, I have a hard time seeing it getting
(30:37):
cast the divisional round. And maybe maybe I'm just not
not giving full credence to what how Sam Donald has
looked because everything they've asked him to do, he's been
able to do. It's just that a couple of pretty
inopportune turnovers for them. But I'm not pessimistic. I feel
like everybody else has moved where I was the optimist
(31:00):
when the season started, and now I feel like the
floody duddy because everybody's like, man, they're great, They're gonna
get back to the super Bowl, Like I don't know
if I see that yet.
Speaker 2 (31:09):
Oh and there is no guarantee getting back to Super
Bowls or World Series, as we found out too hard
in this town. Danie Neil brought to you by Northwest
Handling Systems and Material Handling Handling Experts. They sell, rent
and service all of your warehousing needs. Northwest Handling Systems
of Material Handling Experts Danny tell people at the day Apostrophe.
Speaker 9 (31:27):
It is a newsletter that originates in New York City
but focuses on Seattle sports. You go to Danny O'Neil
dot com, you enter your email address, and then I
send you things, which this week included a little bit
of ghostwriting for Russell Wilson. The next time that Russ
decides that he's gonna he's gonna clap back. The next time,
I'm gonna give him some better lines than the one
(31:47):
he used, because I really liked the fact that he
departed the high road to take some shots at Sean Payton.
I just thought, I just thought the bounty, the bounty
hunting reference, I thought that was bad. I thought it
was a bad line. If he was a rapper, it
would have been a whack dis So I tried to
come up with something better, like, hey, at least I
didn't have to cross a picket line to throw a
(32:09):
pass in the NFL, which that would have been a
much better burn on shot.
Speaker 7 (32:13):
Pat.
Speaker 2 (32:14):
Oh, God, so good. It is funny because Russ has
been hammered. But I'll tell you this rightfully, so knowing
people behind the scenes what he did in Seattle, but
clopping back in Sean Payton's always fun. So you know
what it's like, the two bullies and the block beating
up on each other. Whatever, they can have fun. Danny,
great stuff. Will talk to you next week, my friend.
Speaker 3 (32:32):
Thank you sounds great. Take care of guys, Danny.
Speaker 2 (32:35):
Only all love our conversations every Friday with him. We
can go forever with Danny. There's no doubt about that.
Those are a ton of fun.
Speaker 3 (32:40):
Boy. We got to get to a daily power.
Speaker 2 (32:41):
Play huh about our hockey team before we check in
on the college football weekend with Rob rang at two
o'clock today. But we got to talk a little pluck
because our Kraken are humming right now. We'll talk about
that next.
Speaker 7 (33:12):
Why there's nothing like it.
Speaker 3 (33:14):
Dona when you're a Temple backer Newman Pace.

This is the Daily power Play Hockey on your home

National Hockey League and the Seattle Kraken with the Infernetz.
Speaker 2 (33:54):
Daily power Play, your hold for the crack at nine
three point three k D F M. If you were
listening last night to Fits or watching John and JT
on TV, you were having a good time because the
Craken wrapped up their longest road trip of the season,
six straight away from home, with an incredible three to
nothing win in Winnipeg. The Jets last year were the
best team in the National Hockey League.
Speaker 3 (34:14):
They won the President's Trophy.
Speaker 2 (34:16):
This year, they had won five straight after losing their opener,
they were five and one. They had not been shut
out at home since January of twenty twenty four. All
of that came to a crashing hault. If you're wondering, hey,
are we going to suffer through another season and of
you know, team being out of it by December January,
the answers no Ley Lambert is making a big difference
(34:36):
with this team, and they are doing it massively Shorthanded.
Mason Marshman came back in the lineup last night, but
they're still missing two key forwards, Coppococo and Jared McCann.
They're moving a really big part of the defense in
Brandon Montour. He is still out for personal reasons. Despite
all those losses, this team is humming right now. And
they come back off a road trip. They go two
(34:57):
too and two. So they get points in four of
the six game on the road, including two wins. The
only two losses Monday and Tuesday this week to Philadelphia
and Washington, and they bounced back.
Speaker 3 (35:06):
Lambert challenged them and they bounced back in a big
way last night.
Speaker 2 (35:10):
I'm so bullish on the way these guys are playing
on Lambert's coaching, Chris Taylor's power play. It looks so
much better than a year ago. He's the assistant coach
running that they are. They're doing well now. The schedule
does not get easier. Tomorrow, team that's been the Stanley
Cup Finals the last two years in row, Edmonton is
in town. That's a seven o'clock face off, six thirty
pre game right here on ninety three point three KJERFM.
(35:32):
The Captain, Mike Benton will be with you, so tune
in for that coming up tomorrow. It's after Huskie Football
six thirty pre game with the captain, seven o'clock drop

of Edmonton, who themselves are off to a nice start.
They are four three and one on the season, Seattle
right now behind only Vegas in the Pacific Division of
(35:53):
the National Hockey League. Vegas got five zero to two. Yeah,
went four straight games, beat them though in at least
in overtime.
Speaker 3 (36:02):
You're a Seattle crack Yep, let's take that one. All right. Uh,
we're good, all good?
Speaker 10 (36:10):
I mean it all sounds good to me.
Speaker 2 (36:12):
Yeah, let's good out there. More night Man Dry, Sidle McDavid, Ryan, Ustett, Hopkins.
Speaker 7 (36:16):
Finally back home.
Speaker 2 (36:17):
Fuck god, that's that is a long second. It ties
for the second longest road trip in franchise history. They
had a seven gamer one year, but they've had a
couple of six gamers and to get that out of
the way early and to come back. If you would
have told me by the way that if they were
going to come back and say they were, you know, three,
three and two after that start of the season, I'd
be like, Okay, we're good.
Speaker 3 (36:38):
That's all right.
Speaker 2 (36:39):
They're ahead of expectations right now. And a lot of
people don't believe in this team. I get it, I
understand it. But I think we've seen the difference that
coaching makes and we're seeing that up close and personal
with Lane. Okay, we come back. Rob, Rang's gonna get
us ready for the college football weekend.
Speaker 3 (36:54):
We've missed Rob at least for the last week, maybe
the last couple of weeks. It feels like right with baseball.
Speaker 10 (36:59):
Yeah, everything shifted and you know, the cracking on the
road trip.
Speaker 3 (37:04):
Cracking road trips, all those things. So Rob's back with us.

Speaker 8 (39:57):
I'm doing very well.
Speaker 7 (39:58):
It's good to hear your voice again, sir.
Speaker 2 (40:00):
Perfect, good to hear you as well. All right, let's
get to I want to get to the Seahawks at
the end. If I can't, because if people don't know this,
they should. You're listening to the show. You're probably listening
to the show all during the spring. Robs are also
our draft insider, and we used them all through draft weekend,
as we've done for the last decade and a half
or so. He gave the Seahawks a pretty good grade
in the draft, and some people didn't like that great.
Speaker 3 (40:21):
Is that true? Rob's that? Is that right? Some people
didn't like that great?
Speaker 8 (40:24):
But yeah, some people who thought I was being a homer,
some people who thought that the Seahawks kind of were
swinging for the defenses and didn't get quality players. I
think that the evidence is out there now. The Seahawks
actually got some very talented rookies.
Speaker 2 (40:38):
So we'll get to that at the end of the segment.
Let me start with college football. Let's get through some
of the games. And who you're watching this weekend. I
know you're looking, and I was in a shocking development
our draft insiders looking at the SEC hard this weekend.
Speaker 3 (40:51):
That's strange, I know, weird.
Speaker 2 (40:53):
But and you've got a new article up right now,
the top ten defensive prospects available in the twenty twenty
six draft. I'm cure boy. I can't wait to get
your thoughts on this one. Number eight Old Miss is
playing number three thirteen Oklahoma, nine o'clock tomorrow morning on ESPN. Obviously,
John Mittier quarterback for Oklahoma. We watched Old Miss struggle
with Washington State and oh they're looking ahead to Georgia.
(41:15):
That may or may not have been the case for
the first half, but the second half was the same story.
So I'm not really buying that. I don't I'm not
buying Old Miss, to be honest with you. But in Oklahoma,
after a good start, not a great return for John Mattier.
Speaker 3 (41:27):
So who you watching this game?
Speaker 8 (41:30):
Yeah, there's a lot of prospects in this particular game.
I I just you know, you've always heard the expression
in boxing that contrasting styles make for great fights, you know,
I mean, you have one of the great offensive play
callers and all of college football and Lane Kiffin and
go up against the defensive minded head coach now Brent
Venables at Oklahoma. And so I think that this is
(41:52):
going to be a compelling game from just a competitive standpoint.
And again there's a number of prospects out there. I
think I have to agree with you. I don't think
the ole Miss is as gifted as you might expect.
For number eight overall lets, they got a quarterback Intriguera
add Shambliss, six foot, two hundred pounds. I mean, he's
a dynamic dual threat kind of a guy. He transferred
(42:15):
to Old Miss after helping Farris State win the D
two national championship last year. Fifty one total touchdowns, twenty
six through the air, twenty.
Speaker 7 (42:25):
Five on the ground.
Speaker 8 (42:26):
That lets you, you know, know just what a dynamic
dual threat guy is. But for the NFL, I don't
know that he is that for my money, the most
interesting guys for ole Miss actually on the defensive side
of the ball. They've got a corner Antonio pint A
defensive tackles zav And Harris, who is absolute monster, six
foot seven, three hundred and thirty pounder, and then they
(42:48):
got an edge rusher centering Perkins. Those three guys I
think have a legitimate chance to be drafted, but I
don't know that there is a top one hundred selection
on their roster and his hands right now. John Matier
for Oklahoma obviously the quarterback who's a pretty dynamic player himself,
but he didn't look completely healthy in the Red River rivalry,
(43:09):
multiple turnovers in that game. So for my money, Oklahoma's
top process number thirty two with edge rusher are Mason
Thomas sixty and fifty pounds. The safety number twenty two
Peyton Bowen, a six foot two hundred pounder. Both of
them are heavy hitters, play at the physicality that might
intrigue the Seahawks when it comes.
Speaker 9 (43:27):
To draft him.
Speaker 2 (43:28):
Yeah, I always go back to Shambles for a second.
The quarterback watching him, and I mentioned this last week
during our Factor Fiction picks. Demon Williams is better quarter
is far more terrifying to me, Like, and you know,
he's a better He's a better thrower of the football
for sure, especially anything that's outside of a screen pass.
It's not even close, I don't think, But I think
(43:48):
that's that old missile struggle in that regard.
Speaker 3 (43:51):
But yeah, I'm curious.
Speaker 2 (43:51):
That's a good matchup early on nine am on ESPN
coming up tomorrow, and also a key matchup two for
these teams that are trying to hang on to some
SEC title and SEC championship game and college football playoff
game hopes as well. Speaking of which, Number four Alabama
at South Carolina twelve thirty on ABC tomorrow.
Speaker 3 (44:13):
Listen.
Speaker 2 (44:13):
Alabama, Kalin to Bora Company have turned things around. Some
people think they might be the best team in the country.
I may not disagree with that. They've been really good lately.
And oh, by the way, this is a battle of
two really good quarterbacks, two potential NFL quarterbacks. And we've
been waiting for some quarterbacks rob all year to kind
of rise to the top, and it looks like this
game might have that.
Speaker 8 (44:35):
Yeah, Camlin de Bore deserves awful lot of credit obviously
for the success that Michael Penniks had Indiana and then
obviously at the University of Washington. I think you have
to give some credit to Nick Saban's predecessor, of course,
to Alabama, for the initial recruitment of Ty Simpson at
the quarterback position. But definitely the fact that ty Simpson
has jumped up into the starting role this year and
(44:56):
have gotten better and better and better as the season
has gone on. And as you said, I mean he
is now considered one of the more intriguing quarterback prospects
potentially available in twenty twenty six draft. I mean, this
is his third year in Tuscaloosa, but at the same
time as his first season as a starter. But he
is been spectacular. His accuracy, his playmaking ability, even as
(45:19):
the pocket is collapsing, is much more representative of a
quarterback who has a hex lot more starting experience in
just the seven games that he has at this point.
He's got the prototypical size at six foot three to
hundred and fifteen pounds. Then, while he may not have
the app the arm strength of the quarterback operating against
him for South Carolina, Leonora Sellers, he is a much
(45:42):
more refined passer and so I'm very intrigued by ty Simpson.
To me, he is the quarterback right now who is
flying up draft boards as quickly as just about anybody
in the entire country. I mentioned Leonora Sellers. I mean,
this guy, you just look at his size, his arm strength,
and the running of six. He's two hundred and forty pounds.
(46:02):
There are some comparisons out there to a Jalen Hurtz
or a Dak Prescott. I think that maybe he looks
like a very young version of those two quarterbacks who
still struggled with accuracy. He's still struggled with ring defense
at the times. His ability ian to just kind of
buy time in the pocket and then just heave the
ball sixty seventy yards downfield. It reminded me actually a
(46:24):
little bit of a young Ben Roethlisberger. And so again
we're talking about two very different style of quarterbacks, but
certainly two of the more gifted passers in this year's
draft class.
Speaker 2 (46:35):
With sellers, is that a guy when you say by time,
kind of when I'm thinking of Ben Roethlisberger, I'm thinking
of a guy not necessarily scrambling. He just has that
ability to move his feet and kind of shift one
way or the other, just you know, it's another half
second or second along the ways that we're talking about.
Speaker 8 (46:50):
He can certainly do that. And then if he wants
to stuck the ball and run, he certainly can do
that as well. And this is not Lamar Jackson. You know,
it's that guy who's gonna run away from people as
much as he's put him on their backside. But at
the same time, he can be a scrambling threat as well,
and he has shown you know, pinpoint accuracy at times
it just flashes it. So to me again, he's a
(47:10):
little bit more like the backup quarterback in or the
thirst string of quarterback in seatle Jero Monroe, and that
you see the talent. He just definitely needs some time
before he's gonna jump into the NFL. But in the
quarterback clasts like this in the name where there are
not any career cut, superstar quarterbacks. A lot of the
guys that are, you know, the big names, that Garrett Ness, Meyers,
the arch Mannings, they've been up so up and down.
(47:32):
So if you're going to be gambling on a quarterback,
why not gamble on a guy who has the greatest
physical tools. At least that's the argument some people have
for Sellers. So if he were to come out, he
still has a year of eligibility. If he were to
come out, I think that there's a possibility go in
the first round. But for me, I wouldn't touch him
in the top fifty.
Speaker 2 (47:48):

you there with the family as well. Go check it
out forellispizza dot com. Well, speaking of underrated, speaking of
(48:09):
quarterbacks that maybe weren't there on people's list at the
start of the year, Vanderbilt's got one. Let's talk about
Pavamania Number ten Vanderbilt hosting number fifteen Missouri this weekend.
Speaker 3 (48:19):
Rob.
Speaker 8 (48:20):
You know, it's funny I've been comparing Diego Pavia to
John Kitna for so long now. I mean, it doesn't
have the physical tools that excite anybody, but he's just gutty,
he's competitive, and so I think that this is going
to be a really interesting game for him. I mean,
he is the one that's going to get all of
the attention, of course at the quarterback, and with his
(48:42):
you know, just kind of moxie and his confidence, he
plays a little bit of a swagger to him. The
actually the best prospect for my money on the commodoors
is actually a former tight end, the excuse me, a
former quarterback who has turning tight end Eli Stowers. To me,
he is one of the most intriguing tight ends in
this year's draft. I think he's got a real chance
to be, if not in the first couple of rounds,
(49:05):
certainly a quality mid round selection. And so again he
is an interesting guy. Missouri's got some players as well.
Go Privula, their quarterback is another interesting late round kind
of a guy. He's had to kind of buy his time.
He was waiting behind Brady Cook, who is now in
the NFL. But now that he's had his opportunity, he's
(49:26):
turned some heads as well. And then the two edge rushers,
now those are the guys that I really want to
talk about for Missouri. Zion Young is a Michigan State transfer.
He's got nine and a half tackles for loss and
five sacks, including a really impressive performance a couple of
weeks ago. Two sacks, a couple of tackles for loss
against Auburn. Damon Wilson, the edge rusher on the opposite
(49:46):
side of Georgia transfer. He's got six and a half
tackles for lost, five and a half sacks so far
this he's in two of his sacks. We're against Alabama.
You want to get on scouts radar have impressive performances
against Alabama and Auburn. Auburn playing a lot more pro
style offense, so team scouts are looking at how players
perform against those two programs, Alabama and Auburn, and then
(50:08):
that's kind of the measuring stick. So watching those two
edge rushers with Boye Mafe among the edge rushers that
the Sucks might be looking to move on past Boya
Moffett courses, you know, a free agent at the end
of this season that could be a positional group that
Seeallox would take advantage of it. And this is a
really rich crop of edge rushers.
Speaker 7 (50:28):
This year, Robb.
Speaker 2 (50:29):
Before we talk about Seahawks draft class in the spy week,
when we get to one more game, number three Texas
A and m number twenty LSU.
Speaker 8 (50:37):
Yeah, it's my favorite game of the day. It's I'm
happy that we are to Carver have some time for
this guy. I mean, I think for first off with
Texas A and M. Their top player is another pass rusher,
cash Is Howe, And I think that you know, scouts
are like the rest of us, and if they love
these kind of comeback stories and sleeper stories and things
like that, you know, the cash Is Howe is a
(50:59):
guy that played a small school level and was dominant there,
actually led the country in sacks and then goes to
Texas A and M. They had three guys that were
drafted and in the top sixty four picks a year
ago along the defensive line, so he didn't get me
any opportunities. Actually has to play some off ball linebacker
actually trail and coverage, do things like that, and he
was effected there.
Speaker 9 (51:20):
He's even more.
Speaker 8 (51:20):
Effective now as a pass rusher, actually leaving the SEC
with seven and a half sacks so far this season.
So to me, he is the guy for Texas A
and M to really be paying attention to. The Aggie's
offensive line is very big, very powerful, kind of fits
in with what Mike McDonald is looking to bring, you know,
first Seattle, so I think that has something to kind
(51:41):
of keep an eye on as well. And then LSU
of course is loaded with talent, a lot of individual prospects.
They still always put the game together. The quarterback Garrett Messmeyer.
We've talked a lot about Mansword Delayne, a transfer from
Virginia Tech, and in reference that the article I have
a Fox right now the top ten defensive prospects in
(52:02):
the entire draft, Mansword Delaye is my number four overall prospect,
you know, number two overall defensive back in this entire class,
behind only the great Caleb Downs at Ohio State. Long, lanky,
and a playmaker. He gets somebody to keep in mind
as well, again with Seattle having some concerns at the
cornerback position.
Speaker 2 (52:23):
It is our good friend Rob rang and we're checking
in with Rob of course, courtesy of Farelli's Pizzaisters, Fox
sports dot com our Draft insider, our draft analyst, and
Rob Let's We got a week here, a bye week
for the Seahawks. Let's revisit what they've got in terms
of their draft class this season. Grey's Abel obviously has
started all seven games, even Worry is a starter in
(52:45):
the four games he's been playing. He obviously missed the
three with an injury. A Royal Elijah Royal's played every game,
still waiting for a little more production from him eleven
catches so far this season. Milwroll different story. Riley Mills
is on the pup list, Tory Horton is starting to
make an impact as well. Robbie Huts when he comes back,
will make an impact. There's no doubt about that. Obviously,
(53:07):
the full back Cable dude, Martine Cable do is noth
there not around. Uh, He's on the practice squad. Martinez
was cut Richmond and Ricky White as well, so that
at least the top half of that draft class looks
pretty promising so far.
Speaker 7 (53:21):
About it.
Speaker 8 (53:21):
I mean Grey's Abel, I think he's been kind of
breath of pressure in terms of just the athletic ability
that fits in so nicely with Quint Kubiak, John bent
Rick Anderson, those veteran coaches that they are. You know
a lot of times veteran coaches like that really struggle
with the idea of handing the rains to a to
a rookie. But Gray's Abel, to me, has been everything
(53:42):
that the Seahawks could have hope for in terms of
just his mobility, his reliability in pass protection, and then
just the toughness that he has demonstrated. You know, when
Sam darn guy hitting the sideline this layoff game against Houston.
He was Gray's able, the rookie that was over there,
you know, right, kind of trade blow as if necessary.
And so I think that that really is a statement
(54:05):
about who he is and why the Seahawks are very
excited about their their left side of their offensive line specifically.
So I think that you certainly have to start the
conversation there, and then just the upside that is nick
emun worry and I would argue Elijah or Royal as well,
but just focusing on Emon Worri for a moment, I mean,
my goodness, if Seattle's run defense ian has been spectacular
(54:28):
so far to see. I mean, they're number one in
rushing touchdowns allowed, number one in rushing yards allowed. And
I think that nick Eman Moorey's emergency has that strong
safety kind of box safety, and Nickel cornerback has played
a huge role in that. His ability number you know,
you see number three flashing h you know, upfield and
being able to kind of just you know, wrangle guys
(54:50):
to the ground with such physicality is such great length
to be able to kind of wrestle them to the turf.
I think that that again, just kind of brings back
memories of the great cam Chancellor and how he was
a physical intimidator. And he doesn't have an interception yet
you can see it coming and you can see the
instincts out there, and anybody who was watching from the
burm you knows that he had several big plays in
(55:12):
coverage in training camp or excusing during training camp. So
again I think that his his splashy performance in the
secondary in terms of pass coverage is coming. And Elijah
Roy you mentioned eleven catches and doesn't have a lot
of catches, but my goodness, he's had some big ones
and you can just see the athletic ability which he possesses.
I think that he and certainly Aj Barner, the second
(55:34):
year pro, had really kind of revolutionized the tight end
position for the Seahawks. So I think that that's important
when you consider that you know, this has been about
his one dimensional in the passing game as any team
in the league. You know, Jackson Smith and Jacobsen a
superstar obviously, but you vote from his fifty catches to
Cooper Cup's twenty four catches so far this year, you
(55:55):
have to pretty significant drop from your ace so to
speak to your number two guy and Cooper Cup all
due respect has been great, but at the same time,
a lot of his production has actually been as a
run blocker rather than as a pass catcher, with only
one touchdown catch so far. So to me, that's one
of things that to Gordon stands out. You know, we've
only got nine catches on the year, but three of
them have been for scores. Obviously, the longest punt return
(56:16):
touchdown in this franchise is history ninety five yards. I
mean that says a lot about you know, his ability
as well. So yeah, you know, I was excited about
this draft as that happened, I'm even more excited about
what it's providing the Seahawks.
Speaker 2 (56:28):
Now and real quick ro when Robbie uts comes back,
and he should be back next week after this bye week,
we saw him make an impact in the run game,
and I think it's safe to say, all do respect
to Brady Russell and the other guys, they try to
fit in there.
Speaker 3 (56:39):
Barner sometimes in the backfield. What have you. I think
when Robbie Uatch comes back, that run game is gonna
get better, isn't it. I agree with you.
Speaker 8 (56:46):
I just think that the physicality with which he plays. Again,
this is going to be similar to nick Emon Warri
in some ways when you added nick Eman Warrey to
that defense, to Seals defense got faster, they got tougher,
it got nastier, and I think the same thing's gonna
happen to Seattle.
Speaker 9 (57:03):
It's running game.
Speaker 8 (57:04):
Specifically, you get Robbie Hoots back on the field, and
you're gonna see some more pancake blocks. You're gonna see
some more big opportunities for Zach Sharbay and kamth Walker
the third to be able to break some big runs.
And as you said, he, with all due respect to
Brady Russell, a good quality player. I love the fact
that you know Sharburday's touchdowns. In the past week against Houston,
(57:24):
you saw Brady Russell moving.
Speaker 7 (57:25):
The pile a little bit.
Speaker 8 (57:27):
But Robbie Hoots hasn't just moved the pile. He bulldozes
the pile. And so again I'm excited to see what
he is able to bring once he gets back on
the field for Seattle.
Speaker 2 (57:35):
All right, we'll let you go, Rob, Thank you so much,
great stuff. If you can check Rob's workout at Fox
sports dot com. Top ten Defensive prospects out there as well,
and of course he's always with us on Friday's thanks
to Farelli's Pizza throughout the draft process. Comes springtime as well.
Enjoy the games tomorrow, my friends.
Speaker 8 (57:49):
Thank you, looking forward to it as always, Buddy, take care.
Speaker 3 (57:52):
There you go.
Speaker 2 (57:52):
That is Rob Bryant. We'll take a break, come back

juice going on at the sportsbook. It's place awesome. Sixty three.
I think it's sixty three. It might be short by
a TV or two TVs. When the weather's better. You
can sit outside too. It's covered, but the wind's blowing
a little bit, so the rains coming in. Say close
the outdoor patio for the dating. Chuck sent some pictures out.
They're doing Baseball's best post game show here. But very
cool spot here, great food. Okay, let's get to it.
(59:05):
Four nine four to five one. As you well know, justinman,
that is the unrestricted free agent text.
Speaker 3 (59:11):
Line four nine four five one.
Speaker 2 (59:14):
Our guy Darryl says, drinking game when Ring Cosell mentions
watching tape.
Speaker 3 (59:17):
Yeah, we you know what, Daryl. We love our guy
Greg Cosell, but we do the same thing, the same thing.
Speaker 2 (59:23):
Yeah, nobody, nobody likes watching the watching tape more than Onders, which,
by the way, two o six whereas h whereas the
h is where in the h is? Honders off a
couple days. Hopefully be back on Monday. I think hopefully
that's where plan is. Yeah, we miss Anders. He's been
working hard, man, as as Jess and everybody else. That
was covering the baseball playoffs. Four two five, the Big
(59:47):
Dumper came to the costco I work at last night
on the east side of working the food court. He
came in and got two pizzas of left and tell
him the hell of the year and that he's my MVP.
That same person's here he sent all caps.
Speaker 3 (59:58):
That was an all caps text. By the way, I
love that.
Speaker 2 (01:00:02):
Uh let's see four two five, Hey Danny, that Super
Bowl passes over ten years ago?
Speaker 3 (01:00:07):
Get over it? Am I doing it right?
Speaker 10 (01:00:12):
That was a well taken tongue in cheeks serum.
Speaker 2 (01:00:17):
Yeah, the well see if Softie wants to discuss.
Speaker 3 (01:00:23):
Yeah that I don't know. Man.
Speaker 2 (01:00:25):
I like Paul. I like paul a lot. I just
I think the best part is he worked for a
competing station. He quote tweeted our station account. It's that's
even better. Let's see Chris Imburien. Uh, you know what, Chris, No,
I'm not gonna read it. It's too close to being
refused to talk. Oh two o six, Greg go cell
(01:00:47):
and Humil and Seahawks by week show Must Listen Radio. Yeah,
if you missed it earlier in the one o'clock hour,
we have Greg on every week.
Speaker 3 (01:00:56):
We've had Greg.
Speaker 2 (01:00:56):
I've had Greg on for about fifteen years. We have
Greg on every Friday, we break down the Seahawks opponent.
He watches the tape like nobody else. We're really lucky.
He does a handful of local markets and a couple
of national shows, and we're lucky. He still does it
with us, breaks it down better than anybody. He's also
part of the thirty third team, which is kind of
that think tank of NFL and college football experts, like
(01:01:18):
football guys. Hugh Millen's part of that too. He's got
great respect for him. So this is the second year
we've done this. We're in the bye week. I just said,
here's Greg and Hugh. Hugh go and they just went
for like twenty plus minutes. And if you missed it,
we did defense today, Jess. We'll have that podcast later, yep.
But we're doing offense on Monday. So seven games in
what everyone's thinking about the Seahawk offense breaking it down.
(01:01:39):
We'll talk Walker and Charbonnay on Monday, we'll talk Sam Darnolds,
Chang San and so much more. But it was it
was epic, man. It was those two guys talking football.
I could just sit back there. I mean, we're restricted
by the world of radio, and we do have like
certain amounts of time we have and have to take breaks.
But honestly, Jess, we could do that for two or
three hours.
Speaker 7 (01:01:59):
Yeah, yes, we could.
Speaker 3 (01:02:01):
Yeah.
Speaker 10 (01:02:02):
And you know what, one day we might do a
special situation.
Speaker 3 (01:02:07):
Yes, one day, one day.
Speaker 10 (01:02:10):
A live situation where a limited amount of people could come. Yes,
followed by at the podcast of it all, I think
we could.
Speaker 3 (01:02:20):
All do that. I was gonna let me hang on
with this real quick. Where was it? Oh? There we go?
Could the mirrors of just walk Springer in that situation
we're talking about? What Dan? Yeah? Probably. I mean here's
the thing.
Speaker 2 (01:02:37):
It's sort of watering the bridge now. I I think
the if you missed Enos Serrus yesterday our week we
visit with him, our final one this scheduled. I thought
he had the best explanation of why Dan Wilson screwed
up than anybody I've heard. And it wasn't just hey,
Bizardo two innings the day before or what have you,
(01:03:00):
or hey, let's go to Muno's. He agreed with all
that he thought they should have gone to Munho's, But
as he pointed out, and this is this guy, this
is what he does.
Speaker 3 (01:03:08):
He does a daily podcast called Rates and Barrels.
Speaker 2 (01:03:11):
A lot of what he does is for the athletic,
is studying pictures and pitching and all those things. And
as he said, there is the research tells you that
a picture seeing a hitter or I'm sorry, hitter, he's
seeing a picture for the third time in a series
is deadly for the picture and really an advantage for
the hitter. And that's what they over used Bizardo, not
(01:03:33):
because they overused innings or pitch count. They overused him
in terms of Springer knew what he was going to
see from Edward of Bizardo. And that's unfair to Bizardo.
You know, Munhos hadn't been used as much. That was
the time to go to him or Bryce Miller or whatever.
It just was not the time to go to Bizardo,
as he articulated yesterday. That's I think the frustration.
Speaker 3 (01:03:55):
But we move on. You know what, I forgotten the
headlines to just as the World Series starts.
Speaker 10 (01:03:58):
Tonight, you know what, and refuse to talk situation. I
excluded that for your benefit.
Speaker 3 (01:04:06):
I appreciate that. Appreciate that we got.
Speaker 2 (01:04:09):
I'm here at the casino before we get Factor fiction.
I'm wondering if I do I put juice on the
JS and just that way. It's the old softy hedge.
Speaker 3 (01:04:18):
I may think about doing that. Okay, let's get to it.
Factor fiction.
Speaker 7 (01:04:20):
We're set to go.
Speaker 5 (01:04:21):
Glad you're with us.
Speaker 1 (01:04:21):
It's your shot at our weekly thousand bucks and the
ten thousand dollars grand price. It's Factor Fiction, probably presented
by Lucky Eagle casino and hotel where every day feels lucky.
Fact Door Fiction is on Sports Radio ninety three point
three kJ R FM.
Speaker 3 (01:04:42):
We need some wins, we need some wins.
Speaker 2 (01:04:46):
No, this willapt should be at ESPN tomorrow at twelve
thirty Pacific time. I'm going to the Southeastern Conference. I
am Team Pavia. Sorry, that's just me. I am all
over all over my friends, the Commodores from Vanderbilt via Nashville, Tennessee.
Speaker 3 (01:05:10):
Jessamine.
Speaker 2 (01:05:11):
They are taking on Missouri with the call Missouri Missou
Massou Miszoo is ranked number fifteen in the country. Vanderbilt
is ranked number ten in the country. You know what
Missou doesn't have. That'side tone field advantage. But they don't
have diego Pavia.
Speaker 10 (01:05:31):
I like where your loyalty has drawn you here.
Speaker 5 (01:05:36):
I like chose side that you.
Speaker 3 (01:05:39):
I like Pavia.
Speaker 2 (01:05:40):
I think Pabia is gonna get some Heisman consideration if
they win out or keep on winning or get the
SEC championship game. He's got over two thousand, over two
thousand total yards this season fifteen sixty nine passing, almost
five hundred rushing. That includes sacks, by the way in
the NCAA.
Speaker 7 (01:05:58):
SO I mean, yes, it does. Year.
Speaker 2 (01:05:59):
He's the he came out guys had and he's just
a baller like he is, just an absolute baller, little
guy love him now. My concern is Miszoo Matt Hardy
is a problem. Eight under forty yards and eleven touchdowns
on the ground this season kind of a problem.
Speaker 3 (01:06:15):
But home field.
Speaker 2 (01:06:16):
Game day Missouri or Vanderbilt Vanderbilt Vanderbilt Commodore's.
Speaker 3 (01:06:20):
Minus three fact four nine four five one.
Speaker 2 (01:06:23):
If you disagree, I want to go with Miszoo, you
go fiction four nine four five one.
Speaker 3 (01:06:28):
Jess, Honestly, you know what this has.
Speaker 2 (01:06:30):
This this truly has with game day being there tomorrow
in Nashville for Vandy and Missoo, it feels it has
twenty eighteen pullman vibes to it.
Speaker 10 (01:06:41):
That's what we were talking about off the air, is
that it does feel like though when Oregon was coming
to town.
Speaker 2 (01:06:47):
Yeah, no, Oregon was ranked. Oregon was ranked higher. Right
that day, they were ranked higher.
Speaker 3 (01:06:51):
We were ranked.
Speaker 2 (01:06:52):
We were close to the top ten, but we were ranked,
but we were they were ranked higher. But yeah, this has,
this has I mean, that's a special thing when those
guys come to town for it's Alabama or Georgia or
Ohio State where they go all the time.
Speaker 3 (01:07:04):
It's a special thing.
Speaker 2 (01:07:05):
Now you gotta get jacked up and then you're gonna
take it down back, take a breath, and then it's
four hours later you play the game. I get that,
But I think these guys are gonna be rare to go.
Speaker 3 (01:07:14):
Man.
Speaker 2 (01:07:14):
I like Vanderbilt. They keep proving people wrong. They're six
and one overall two and it's gonna be two and
one in the SEC.
Speaker 3 (01:07:21):
They go to.
Speaker 2 (01:07:21):
Alabama, put on a hell of a show, fall just
short for their only SEC loss.
Speaker 3 (01:07:26):
I love Vanderbilt. I think this also, it's a good story.
Speaker 10 (01:07:31):
Well, let's talk about their history of being basically nothing
in the.
Speaker 2 (01:07:35):
The worst team traditionally in the SEC and the worst
team traditionally in the Big Ten. Vanderbilt and Indiana respectively
are having unbelievable years this year, and it's pretty cool now.
Vanderbilt schedules a little light, a little light so far.
Speaker 3 (01:07:52):
But they did beat LSU last week thirty one to
twenty four.
Speaker 5 (01:07:54):
Yes they did, and I'm all over this one.
Speaker 2 (01:07:56):
So again, it's Vanderbilt minus three. The Commodores pavia Mania
fact four nine four to five one if discrete fiction
four nine four five one.
Speaker 3 (01:08:04):
Here's the deal.
Speaker 2 (01:08:06):
You try to win a thousand dollars weekly prize, ten
thousand dollars grand prize courtesy of a Lucky Eagle casino
where every day feels lucky. Uh so, make sure you
text in right now. You can't win if you don't text.
But if you text, you got a chance to have
a win. You got a chance for Anders or Honders
to call you on Monday and say, hey, you just
want a thousand dollars.
Speaker 10 (01:08:24):
He really likes doing that, by the way, he.
Speaker 3 (01:08:26):
Really It's it's the best part of his job.
Speaker 2 (01:08:29):
So fire away four nine four to five one factor
fiction Commodorees minus three fact four nine four five one
over Maszoo, Miszoo and the Commodores amat Hardy In Company
rolling into Nashville.
Speaker 3 (01:08:41):
Game day is going to be.
Speaker 2 (01:08:41):
There should be a ton of fun factor fiction brought
to you by the Lucky Eagle Casino where every day
feels lucky. Let's check in with you afore mentioned Dave
Softy Mall or shall we we'll do that next to
wrap up the week.
Speaker 7 (01:09:07):
Yeah, yes, what do you want?
Speaker 3 (01:09:10):
I got three words for you?
Speaker 7 (01:09:12):
What do you want?
Speaker 3 (01:09:13):
Three words?
Speaker 7 (01:09:14):
Get over it? And honor of Paul Moyer.
Speaker 3 (01:09:17):
Oh my god, so good.
Speaker 7 (01:09:20):
I was gonna ask you how you're doing.
Speaker 12 (01:09:21):
Man. I got a phone call from a buddy of
mine today, just Siday. It's been a few days. I
want to check in with you and see how you're
doing after Monday. And I said, I don't know. I mean,
I'm doing fine. Paul Moyer says, we got to get
over it. So I'm over it, man, forget it. I
don't care anymore.
Speaker 3 (01:09:35):
Did he get over it? Super Bowl forty nine on?
Speaker 7 (01:09:39):
Don't you ask him?
Speaker 3 (01:09:40):
Once?
Speaker 7 (01:09:40):
You asked Paul Moyer?
Speaker 3 (01:09:42):
Who?
Speaker 7 (01:09:42):
I gotta be honest with you.
Speaker 12 (01:09:43):
I actually really do kind of like Paul to be honest,
you know, I went to college with his wife, for
God's sakes thirty five years ago. Partied with him in
New Orleans in the nineties with with the Graze when
Holme Grin was in there against the pain Itch. But
that was one of the dumbest things a guy could
say on social media in our town. Yes days after
(01:10:07):
that game, tell Amerna fans like us to get over it.
Speaker 7 (01:10:10):
So why don't you take a hike? How does that sound?
Speaker 2 (01:10:13):
As everyone is still kind of just licking their but
like everyone it's it's like mourning.
Speaker 3 (01:10:19):
Right, Yeah, one mourns differently.
Speaker 2 (01:10:21):
Well, Listen, if I was through the different stages of
grief different.
Speaker 12 (01:10:24):
If I was at a ten on the depression scale
on Tuesday morning, I would say, I'm about a seven
and a half or an eight right now. And then
I walk into the studio and the TV's on. The
first thing I see is a damn World series preview
and I'm right back to it nine and a half again, right,
So you know, like on social media, you go on Twitter,
you can mute like certain.
Speaker 7 (01:10:42):
Words from appearing on your timeline. I've done that already.
Speaker 12 (01:10:46):
Oh, Jay's World series Springer Toronto Rogers Center, which has
spelled incorrectly because Canadians can't spell no, no, it's not cent.
All of that has been blocked on my time. I
just don't want to do it. I don't want to
see it. And if that makes me, you know, so
(01:11:08):
offt if it makes me a chump, I don't give
a damn what you think. I really don't give a
damn Paul Moyer thinks either. So if Paul Moyer, who
works on the Mariner's flagship station as a Seahawk analyst,
thinks it's a good idea to go on social media
and tell fans to get over it two days after
the most heartbreaking loss in Mariner history, man, then be
my guest pal. If that's the best career move for you,
(01:11:31):
then go for it.
Speaker 2 (01:11:32):
Seems odd that in our business of sports radio, and
no matter if you're an analyst or a host or
whatever your role is, telling fans to get over their emotions,
aren't we doing aren't we servicing the emotions?
Speaker 5 (01:11:46):
And of course, of course I thought, of course.
Speaker 3 (01:11:49):
I'm not the smartest. I'm not the smartest tool of shit.
Speaker 12 (01:11:51):
You know that that is true. We often talk about
who the dumbest person is here? And you kind of
usually take the.
Speaker 2 (01:11:57):
Care and I would, I would, but I'm thinking of myself.
Speaker 3 (01:12:01):
Let's see, what do we do for a living? All right?
That's right? We we cater to the.
Speaker 7 (01:12:05):
Emotions, Yes, the sports correct correct.
Speaker 2 (01:12:08):
Telling a fan not to have emotions just seems counterintuitive
to whatever. Man, whatever, you do your thing. So my question,
here's my question to you. Yeah, before I leave this,
No'll call me casino. Yes, ye, put some juice.
Speaker 3 (01:12:22):
On the Jays.
Speaker 12 (01:12:23):
Yeah, I mean, I just look, you know, if the
Dodgers win, you'll be happy. If the Blue Jays win,
you got a couple of bucks in your pocket. Not
that you'd be thrilled if the Blue Jays win the
World Series, but you know, I mean, if you're gonna
suffer the pain of having them win the whole damn thing,
you may as well get compensated for it.
Speaker 3 (01:12:40):
That's kind of what I know.
Speaker 12 (01:12:42):
Not that that would make you feel any better, you know,
it depends on how much you put on them. But yeah,
just it's the it's the emotional hedge, and I've been
I've been playing it for years. Man, I've been playing
the emotional mental hedge and the Apple Cup, the Oregon
You dub game, UH Seahawk playoff games, hust Bowl games.
(01:13:02):
I've been playing the mental emotional heads for decades. So look,
I like being happy. I like being pleased, and I'm
not nearly as pleased as I am when my teams win.
But if I'm going to be a miserable les ob,
then I may as well have a couple of bucks
on my pocket for the effort.
Speaker 7 (01:13:19):
That's my that's that's my perspective.
Speaker 3 (01:13:21):
Blue Jay is currently plus two ten.
Speaker 12 (01:13:24):
Put a hundred bucks out of the wind the whole thing. Yeah,
take them a couple hundred bucks. I mean, I just
look at it this way. Would you pay one hundred
dollars for the Dodgers to win the World Series and
not have Toronto win the World Series? I would, But
that's just me. I'm not expecting you to be as
crazy as I am.
Speaker 3 (01:13:39):
But I'm not quite that crazy.
Speaker 7 (01:13:40):
I would do that.
Speaker 3 (01:13:41):
I would not that. I'm not that.
Speaker 2 (01:13:43):
I just even like I was doing the headlines. She
writes the headlines because I'm not capable, which is nice.
I do appreciate you doing that for me, and I
did the second set of headlines. We're talking to Rag
and I'm thinking what did I forget? Oh, as I'm
looking up at one of the TVs here at hawksbeak, like,
oh yeah, the World Series starts.
Speaker 7 (01:13:57):
Fan, I was faring.
Speaker 12 (01:13:59):
I wonder how many people are actually gonna watch it tonight?
And I wonder is the uh uh is the Mariner flagship?
Are they carrying the games?
Speaker 7 (01:14:06):
Do we know?
Speaker 3 (01:14:06):
Because if I'm them, they didn't carry Game seven?
Speaker 7 (01:14:09):
Yeah, that's true.
Speaker 3 (01:14:12):
The man of flagship didn't carry Game seven in the ALCS,
so why was it carrying? Will Buddy? That is true?
Speaker 7 (01:14:17):
That is Truechise.
Speaker 12 (01:14:21):
Look, look, I don't want to hear it at all, right,
I got no interest in it, you know, like I
told Dick and Jackson yesterday. Maybe I'll get a notification
on my phone that the Blue Jays are down fifteen
nothing and I'll turn it on.
Speaker 7 (01:14:32):
But outside of that, I'm out. I got no desire
to watch.
Speaker 3 (01:14:35):
No, I'm just seriously, just get over it. Will just
get over.
Speaker 12 (01:14:38):
It, okay, Paul, I'm working on a Paul, Mister Moyer,
I'm trying to get over a pal I really am.
Speaker 2 (01:14:45):
Buddy, Oh oh god, are you looking for the little
rant and husky?
Speaker 3 (01:14:49):
Statedium who's that benefit?
Speaker 12 (01:14:50):
By the way I I, Well, I would think it
benefits us because Illinois likes to throw the football around
with that Hank Baby and that Luke Altmeyer the quarterback.
They gotta they gotta fly put ten wide receiver who's
an SOB, So I would think it neutralizes them.
Speaker 7 (01:15:04):
A little bit more than us.
Speaker 12 (01:15:05):
But uh yeah, he's six three and a half yards
of carrying the big ten so far this year. Well
what happened to him is they lost two thirds of
their or two fifths of their offensive line, which is
really good. They're They're two best linemen I think by far,
are Carver Willison John Mills, and they've been banged up.
So hopefully they're back, Yes, hopefully they're back tomorrow.
Speaker 7 (01:15:26):
Man.
Speaker 3 (01:15:27):
But all right, what's coming up today?
Speaker 12 (01:15:28):
I'm just gonna spend the next four hours trying to
get over the Mariner loss. Uh So we'll see if
I can do it by seven o'clock today. Least Sterling's
on today, Humillon's on today, Bill Krueger's on today, Rick
Neuheisel as well, John Wilner, Brian Schmetzer.
Speaker 7 (01:15:43):
We've got a lot going on today.
Speaker 3 (01:15:44):
Man.
Speaker 12 (01:15:44):
We're gonna look to by the way, extend our starting
to become a significant lead in Factor fiction, at least
over your show.
Speaker 7 (01:15:51):
I mean, it's kind of getting embarrassing now, to be
honest with you, so.
Speaker 3 (01:15:55):
Listen, it's not kind of all right, it is.
Speaker 2 (01:15:58):
Struggling out of your fri admitting then I got a
win today, though I got I got Vandy com.
Speaker 12 (01:16:04):
He went with new Heidel's pick. He took Vandy also,
did he really? You must have been Don't act like
he didn't listen.
Speaker 7 (01:16:08):
On the way home yesterday. You heard everything he said.
Speaker 3 (01:16:11):
I was on TV and the way home home.
Speaker 12 (01:16:14):
I'm convinced that I'm convinced that you have an ear
piece in your ear during the pregame show listening to
the Rick new Heidel's segment to rip off his pick.
Speaker 2 (01:16:22):
Actually, that's the last thing I would do. I'd go
the other way round based on his picks normally.
Speaker 3 (01:16:26):
So now now you know.
Speaker 7 (01:16:27):
Why I'm he's won three in a row. He's in
a row.
Speaker 3 (01:16:30):
Now you know why the last place Factor fix.
Speaker 7 (01:16:34):
Get a mild manners and marginally objectionable in forness. This
is paddle day saying so long everyone,
