Joe Sheehan, The Joe Sheehan Newsletter! Joe tells us his final thoughts on Dan Wilson as a manager following this historic season. He also talks about the insanity of last night's 18 inning game and the lengthy story he wrote about it. The Cougar Roundtable! Alex Brink and Mkristo Bruce join Ian to talk about a phenomenal Cougar win over Toledo. What did this game tell them after back-to-back long road trips in close losses to top 20 teams?  Brink and MK continue to give their thoughts on the perseverance of this team this year and the job Jimmy Rogers has done thus far.  Ian reflects on what Joe Sheehan had to say about the epic World Series game we saw last night and what it says about the managers and coaches did throughout an 18-inning marathon. Sometimes less scoring means a more intense game. John Lund, Pro Football Wire! John is more interested in the entire league than just the Niners these days.  However, since San Fran is his expertise, he lets us inside on what's happening with the team right now.  FACT OR FICTION! New York City, where Game three of the World Series
ended at I believe one fifty five am. Is that
right now? Two fifty five am? Woof? That makes it
hard for me to argue about the five o'clock starts
specific time.

Speaker 5 (02:32):
I guess yeah, I'm trying to decide if I'm if
I'm cheering up because I'm sad that we're not gonna

(03:04):
Sales close to sportsbook, so call me Casino Hotel. And
I talked about all of our baseball coverage. One of
the things I teased last week Joe we weren't able
to connect was and we'll get to the World Series
in a second, because I mean, just eighteen innings is incredible.
I was tired. It was on the West Coast for
goodness sakes as well.

Speaker 6 (03:20):
But.

Speaker 2 (03:22):
I wanted to talk about your story. You did. It
would have been a week ago today after the Mariners
got eliminated in Game seven. And I remember last week,
I said, because everyone here and you knew what was
going on, you wrote about it. People are going to
lose in their mind about what's going on with Dan Wilson,
his choice of picture pictures and so forth. And I said,
Joe's got an interesting take and it might surprise people,

(03:44):
although he's not fully supportive of Dan Wilson overall. So
let me just go back Dan Wilson in the playoffs.
How much did he hurt Seattle overall, and maybe discuss
the decision that led to the Springer game winning home run.

Speaker 5 (03:58):
Yeah, I said the start of the playoffs going to
learn about Dad Wilson because he'd never been in.

Speaker 6 (04:02):
This position before.

Speaker 5 (04:03):
When you have the managing in the playoffs now is
so different from managing in the regular season, where the
only thing that matters really is winning that day's game.
I think we saw Wilson make some mistakes early on,
learned from them thinking about the matching up with Kerry
Carpenter and the Division series a little bit too small
ball for my taste. Some of that was because the
bottom of the order wasn't producing at all. I think

(04:24):
that I wasn't as upset with his decisions in Game
seven because I really just looked at bizarre. In fact,
I wrote about bizard Are going into the series saying,
and somebody who gets right handers out? And I thought
that having him pitched instead of Munio's there was perfectly
defensible based on the skill sets of the pitchers involved,
and based on the fact that once you brought Munios in,
you were gonna want him to finish the game and

(04:45):
he was unlikely to be able to get eight outs,
So there was no great decision there, and I think
he made.

Speaker 6 (04:50):
You know, basically call it fifty two to forty eight.

Speaker 5 (04:53):
For me to Bizarro to try to get the two
outs there in the seventh and.

Speaker 6 (04:57):
Then go to Munio's.

Speaker 5 (04:58):
But by and large, I don't think Wilson a very
good playoff series. I think if you want to question
something from that last game, it probably would have been
taking George Kirby out when he did after four innings.
I think he probably needed to get more out of Kirby.
Even you go back to game six, using Bizardo and
Matt Brash in a situation where you're already down. I
think it was three nothing at the four nothing and

(05:19):
then it became five to one.

Speaker 7 (05:20):
That's not hot.

Speaker 5 (05:21):
I mean, one of the things we don't see managers
do enough is used their really the best relievers. Down
one run late, but down three runs in the middle innings,
down four runs in the middle innings.

Speaker 6 (05:30):
That was a spot for Carlos Vargas.

Speaker 5 (05:32):
Then eventually it was a spot for Bibby Hancock or
Luke Jackson or something like that. And I think we
can never know if Bizartro pitch is better without having
thrown twenty pitches the day before. But I can tell
you that just evaluate the decision on this game, six
decisions on the merits, using Bizarro and Brash in that
spot did not help the team win. So again, I
think on balance, Wilson did not help the Barriners advance.

(05:55):
Taking away anything he was doing behind the scenes.

Speaker 6 (05:57):
You know, I don't, I'm not privy to that, but
just from one pm.

Speaker 5 (06:00):
To ten PM, from the first out to the last,
I think he was a net negative for the Mariners
this year.

Speaker 2 (06:04):

Request to quote today and THEBHS dot com or give
us a call for two five two five five zero
five hundred. So and I'll kind of weave this into
the World Series in a second. We've talked about this,
but just kind of you You studied numbers and notes

(06:27):
and things for years and years and years. How much
do manager managerial decisions affect teams? Especially No, maybe not
a game to game one hundred and sixty two. But
when you get to a playoff series, how much does
the manager matter?

Speaker 6 (06:42):
That is considerably.

Speaker 5 (06:43):
I mean, even if we say these decisions are all
occurring in a fairly small range of percentages, you know,
one decision might move the needle one to two to
three percent. You're just never making in a baseball game
maybe decision that's going to move the needle ten to
fifteen percent. It's one of the reasons I reacted to
that there was this very public outcry about the Mudios decision.
I had a reader write in and tell me he
thought the decision was absolutely reprehensible.

Speaker 6 (07:04):
And that's what I'm.

Speaker 5 (07:05):
Resisting, because there's simply no decision you can reasonably make
in a baseball game that's going to move the percentages
that much. It's just the difference between Munio's and bizarre
or even the decisions that he made in Game six
that I don't like. You're talking about fairly small percentages.
But here's the thing that's all you're ever going to
see if you think about win expectancy, and you know,
we've talked about this a little bit. It's the change

(07:26):
in state from the start of it at back to
the end of it at back, George Springer, maybe the
Blue Jays forty percent more likely to win the game
based on that one swing. That's a big swing. But
most of the time you're talking about the biggest hits
in the game are going to be eleven. The biggest
managerial decisions aren't going to rise to the level of

(07:47):
a three to four percent difference, because remember we're talking
about uncertainty too. It's not like blackjack, where I know
the percentages every time the card comes out of the shoe.
It's more like poker, where I'm dealing with incomplete information.
So again, all of these decisions are relatively small, but
they're the big They're small in an absolute sense, but
they're big in the sense of how anybody can impact

(08:09):
the game.

Speaker 6 (08:09):
And that's why we focus on them.

Speaker 5 (08:11):
Because managers can move the needle one to two to
three percent, which is more than most players.

Speaker 6 (08:16):
Are gonna have an opportunity to do.

Speaker 5 (08:18):
So managers are important, and it also goes to the
structure of your roster. I mean, there were some uh
on some of the Dusky Baker's astros teams.

Speaker 6 (08:26):
There weren't really a whole lot of decisions to be made.
The same nine.

Speaker 5 (08:29):
Guys were gonna play every day. They were going to
bat in the same order. It was a deep rotation.
The same four starters were gonna start, and the bullpit
was basically locked down. But most teams don't have rosters
like that. Most teams have to platoon. Most teams are
making decisions on the margins about who to start, or
where to bat them, or what reliever to bring in.
And I think the Mariners, because the bottom of the
order was such a problem, had those kinds of decisions.

Speaker 6 (08:50):
Because they lost.

Speaker 5 (08:51):
Brian Wu and had to make more complicated pitching decisions.
It was a more high maintenance roster than even necessarily.
It was all like problems developed talk about we talk
about the bottom of the order that made the playoff
Mariners harder to manage than save the August in July.

Speaker 2 (09:08):
Matters what's And we'll probably have a little conversation regarding
off season Mariners here down the road. But I want
to get to the World Series. Last night, the eighteen
innings you wrote about it today, a great piece. The sequel.
I loved it, and I don't know why. Maybe I
was doing something else, maybe travel with the Seahawks. I

(09:29):
can't remember. So the Dodgers actually played an eighteen inning
game in the World Series right recently.

Speaker 5 (09:34):
Seven years almost to the day, the third game of
the twenty eighteen World Series at Dodger Stadium against the
Red Sox and MaTx Munsey had a walk off homer
off Nathan the Ivaldi in the in the eighteenth innings
in twenty eighteen. So seven years ago, exam almost of
the day actually today, and I'll plug this.

Speaker 6 (09:52):
Today's piece is.

Speaker 5 (09:53):
Up for free if people want to check that out.
It's not about the Mariners, unfortunately, but it is and
it was getting a good response online Joshime dot com.

Speaker 6 (10:00):
Check out what I wrote.

Speaker 5 (10:02):
And seven years ago I wrote, I wrote really long
piece about that game as well. And you know, last
night was a very complicated baseball game, managerial decisions and
umpire calls and all. There were six base running outs,
all of them involving you know, do you send the runner?

Speaker 6 (10:15):
Do you not send the runner? Was this a good decision?
Was it not?

Speaker 5 (10:17):
Just a very It had a lot of baseball in
the baseball game. Alejandro Shi, John Snyder ran out of
bench players. The Dodgers just about ran out of pitchers.
It was just so much to write and talk about,
and you know, we talk about really getting into games.
I know a lot of people ended up going to
bed that I can't blame me, ended up you know,
ten to three in the morning here on the East Coast,

(10:38):
ten to midnight out in the west. Maybe people didn't
stay at the point, but the people who did just
had so much to chew on, and even this morning
writing about it, just I know, I lost stuff on
the cutting room floor that I could have probably done
six hundred words on. It had so much baseball in
the game, and we don't always get that. Some games
are five to one and there's not rough to write about.
Last night had a whole months worth of stuff to
write about.

Speaker 2 (10:58):
Yeah, I was my buddy Chris Crawford. I tweeted something
last night or said something last night, and I thought
he said, I don't know if this was the greatest game.
It was just our group chat, right, I don't know
how great a game was. I need some more runs.
And I initially I was like, yeah, I think you're right,
And then the more I think about it, because of
the benches and managing what the what the benches looked like.
Do you take out for example, Kirk and go to

(11:19):
your last bench player was Himan, the backup catcher for Toronto.
Do you you know what do you do with Barger?
I mean, what do you like? All these things? And
you know, the Bashett situation, the Springer injury, all those things,
and then bullpens that were just gassed and depleted. I
think it was a great game from the standpoint of
there was as we're talking about Dan Wilson, right, Joe,
there were managerial decisions. There were lineup decisions in game,

(11:42):
decisions that truly could affect how that game was, how
the outcome came. And I guess I would find that
to be fascinating, and I probably didn't appreciate it at
the time because frankly, I'm old. I was getting tired
even on the West coast, my friend. But but I
think looking back on it, all the elements involved, especially
with how you manage that game, that's what made it
probably a classic.

Speaker 5 (12:03):
And not just that we had all of these managerial
decisions we didn't show on, but there was a ton
of baseball plays that got made, both bad the Edmond
era that led to the Kirkspur and Homer you had
David Schneider getting thrown out of the plate with potential
winning run Hernandez to Edmund to Smith. Behind the plate,
you had Vladimer Guerrero Junior making an incredibly smart play
in the sixth round. Out gonna be an infield single,

(12:26):
and instead of holding the bag, Guerrero comes off the bag,
catches the ball and throws Hernandez out at third base.
Alertness and physical play.

Speaker 6 (12:34):
Vladimer Guerrero Junior.

Speaker 5 (12:35):
Look obviously, he's known for his bat, and he's not
really built like an athlete.

Speaker 6 (12:38):
He's got a gut.

Speaker 5 (12:39):
You know it looks okay, he looks like me. But
when you actually see him play, you see those instincts.

Speaker 6 (12:44):
You see the fact that he's a ball player. He's
not just the bat and andy.

Speaker 5 (12:48):
Last night we saw him show off his arm, We
show saw his legs, we show up, saw him show
off his decision making. He doesn't look like Mookie Betts,
but he's got a lot of that. He runs a
little bit of Albert Pools. He's not the player Pools was,
but Pools had a lot of that too, where you know,
it came up a third baseman, so as a first baseman,
he still had a really good arm for a first baseman,
the incredible base runner, a good hit and run guy,

(13:08):
like he did everything, and we thought about him as, oh,
he's the guy who's three hundred and thirty homers every year,
but if you watched him every day, you saw he
did so many things that help a team win. Guerrera
showed off a lot.

Speaker 6 (13:18):
Of that last night.

Speaker 5 (13:19):
There was just all these baseball plays as well, even
things like, you know, Sir Anthony Dominge is facing Shoeotani
in what will probably be Otani's last swing of the
year because it's gonna get intentionally walk the rest to
the series and deciding to throw a you know what
I'm gonna do. I'm gonna throw a fastball middle middle.
I'm gonna announce my presence with authority. What are you
doing throwing Shoeotani a fastball middle middle of that situation?

(13:39):
And Otani hit it out the opposite field four hundred
feet and tied the game, and seventeen hours later the
game actually ended, Like, what are you even thinking throwing
Otani that pitch the way he's sitting right now, So
just there was just all of this stuff to talk about,
and like I said, you know, it's and I feel
like because it also had the big moments Otani's Hatani,
the Big Knife Freeman, the walk off, Homer plays at

(14:01):
the plate, errors like, it was also good. I think
casuals really could get into it too.

Speaker 6 (14:07):
It wasn't just a seamhead game.

Speaker 5 (14:08):
It was a game that if you watched fifteen games
a year, or you're a Mariners fan just towing it
from the World Series you don't know a whole lot
about these teams, you could enjoy the game too.

Speaker 6 (14:17):
It's just it had everything.

Speaker 2 (14:18):
Yeah, And I mean I was mesmerized by it. I said,
I'm getting I mean, the Will clein part of it
is awesome. Andrews, you told me Will Klein was a
Mariner at one point.

Speaker 4 (14:26):
Z they just picked him up and then kind of
threw him back on the scrap peep earlier. So it's
pretty crazy. That's it.

Speaker 2 (14:32):
But isn't that, Joe, Isn't that what the playoffs are about?
And stuff is like you find unlikely heroes like Will kleinb.

Speaker 5 (14:38):
Steve Pierce winning the Male of the World Series MVP.
Watching you know Ernie Clement of this postseed you think
got Billy Hatcher, who was the nineteen ninety World Series MVP.
It's never just about the superstars. Sometimes you get rid
of was it Jorge Solaier witting the World Series MVP
a couple of years ago for the streets, Yeah, it's
all about It's all about the rends. And Will Cline,
who wasn't even on the NLC. Yes, he wasn't on

(15:01):
any of the playoff rosters before this series was put on,
in part because Alexadisia as a family issue that couldn't
be on the World Series roster. Last guy on the
last guy on the staff, last reliever in the bullpen,
has never thrown four innings in his career, has never
thrown sixty pitches in his career, go seventy two pitches,
four shutout innings with a Worlderies game on the line.

Speaker 6 (15:23):
It just doesn't get better.

Speaker 2 (15:24):
Than that, doesn't. Well then you know then you like
you mentioned Clement, I mean, here's a guy that's been
DFAD more times than he's actually you know, been in
the league, you know, for a consecutive months. I mean
it's just he's and there he is doing thing. It
is a fun thing about this sport is that when
you get to this point. You know, yes, it sometimes
has to be about the superstars, but it's who ends

(15:45):
up being a one day superstar, right or a one
series superstar along the way, And you just mentioned a
lot of guys along the way, Joe Shean joining us.
What what do we know? Is Springer out?

Speaker 8 (15:55):
Is he done?

Speaker 2 (15:55):
What do we know?

Speaker 5 (15:57):
You know, I was going to do this hit and
then I was going to catch up the day's news
and write by pregame piece. So I'm not sure watching
him leave the game last night, I don't think it's
a question of whether he's in the lineup tonight. I
think it's a question of whether they're gonna replace him
on the roster. He did not look like a guy
who was gonna come back and play, So I could
be wrong about that, but I think he's gonna need
at least one day off. And it's complicated because it
doesn't seem like Boba Schett is going to play consecutive

(16:20):
games in the series, and they're probably gonna want him
to start against Blake Snell the left handed tomorrow, So
I thought he was already going to miss today's game.
Now maybe with Springer out, Dashetkin d h we al
weill see the lionups come out.

Speaker 6 (16:31):
Here in a little bit.

Speaker 5 (16:32):
I'm also fascinated by seeing, you know, which pitchers are
available as far as like the Dodgers are going to
have one right handed reliever available and he's terrible. Blake's
trying in Who's the entire reason we had to go
eighteen innings last night? Because he gave up a run
to you know, you have three straight hits in the
in the seventh tenning. They shouldn't even be pitching for
the Dodgers at this point, but yet it's the Pulpen's
gonna be an interesting springer, Dashett. You know, I even

(16:54):
wonder Will Smith caught eighteen innings last night, and I
guarantee you at any other point in the season, the
guy catches eighteen inns, he doesn't come.

Speaker 6 (17:00):
Back and catch the next day.

Speaker 5 (17:02):
So you know, is are we going to see Ben
Rortfett for at least half the game to night the
backup catcher who can't do.

Speaker 2 (17:06):
It at all?

Speaker 6 (17:06):
I just there's a lot.

Speaker 5 (17:07):
Of follow up to last night's game, even before yesterday,
and I was writing that, you know, this is when you.

Speaker 6 (17:13):
In the ALCS the a NLCS.

Speaker 5 (17:15):
In the World Series, you play those three straight games
Games three, Game four, in Game five, and for most
of the postseason you don't have to warn you about
playing three straight days. So last night you don't want
to burn out your bullpen. And then they accidentally play
eighteen innings, so it makes it so much complicated, more
complicated for Dave Roberts, and you want to see David
Schneider John Schneider to figure out how am I going

(17:38):
to get.

Speaker 6 (17:38):
Through these next eighteen innings.

Speaker 5 (17:40):
It's actually a little easier for the Dodgers. They'll have
Show aotany tonight, they'll have Blake Snell tomorrow. We don't
know what the Blue Days are going to get out
of Shane dab He just you know, he's been really
up and down. He's only made eleven starts since coming
off the Ils. It's being traded to Toronto. There's definitely
some implosion possibility there. They use their one long reliever
for four and two thirds innings night, Eric Flower, So

(18:01):
if Beople would to go out tonight, you have four
runs in the first inning. I'm not sure how Schinder
even gets through the game. And then he's got to
play again tomorrow.

Speaker 2 (18:08):
Blue Jays went. If the Blue Jays won on one
last night, We've been talking a lot more about Lawer two,
you know, and what that job he did. I mean
it was just it.

Speaker 5 (18:15):
Was and Alejandro Kirk with a free run homer. Yeah,
and you know all the things Lad did in the game.
I mean again, we tend to frame things because based
on who won. But the Blue chast did a lot
of incredible baseball things last night and just happened.

Speaker 6 (18:27):
To lose an eight. It took seventeen and two thirds
innings to beat them. What are you gonna do?

Speaker 2 (18:30):
That's crazy? All right, We are going to have you
on next week if you'll do it, because I need
to get it. By then the World Series will be over.
We can put a rap on this because I didn't
get a chance to talk to you about some guy
named Otani who's good at baseball and I want to
get your but we'll wait till the series is over
to do that, put a rap on things, kind of
an off season primer, and to put a total bowl
on it. If you're willing and able, we'll do that
next Tuesday.

Speaker 7 (18:49):
Joe, No, I'll come on forever.

Speaker 5 (18:52):
I know, you guys go to you know a lot
of football and hockey now, but I'm happy to come
on talk baseball any time.

Speaker 2 (18:57):
Tell people about the and I'm getting a fist pump
from anders in there to right now.

Speaker 6 (19:00):
That was creepy.

Speaker 9 (19:03):
That was just that.

Speaker 2 (19:04):
Was just with the voice. Andrews just had a fist pump.
That's all.

Speaker 4 (19:07):
I'll be in Hawaii listening.

Speaker 2 (19:08):
Oh there you go? Even how about that?

Speaker 6 (19:11):
To Andrews.

Speaker 2 (19:12):
It's okay, Joe, tell you about the newsletter and again
the free story is up there. It's a great read,
especially if you're a movie buff too. So go go

It's our Cougar roundtable. Here we go. MK and Alex
are here on this Tuesday afternoon. Who's coming off a
nice win? Lost to discuss? Gentlemen? MK? How you doing?

(21:15):
You're back from? Where where'd you just get back from?

Speaker 10 (21:18):
I was in Saudi Arabia and uh, you know, just
just out there hanging out doing pilot things, fine planes whatever?

Speaker 9 (21:25):
Are you raising raising funds for the Buffalo gym expansion?

Speaker 11 (21:28):
Uh no, but I just know more to.

Speaker 2 (21:33):
Wow guys on the He's signed up for the live
tour as well, you know, I mean, who knows what
he's doing over there? I mean, goodness, me see me
on a golf course. Guys, listen, I'm a good time,
but I'm not good Alex break with us as well.
I gotta tell the story. We we we tape these
in the morning because every schedule. Shockingly, both MK and

(21:53):
Alex have other lives and jobs, so we can do
this in the morning and there was a time we
just had a little not an incident, but a little
little shot in Ian's favor. But there was one time,
years ago, this was pre MK and pre Jessamine, where maybe,
just maybe I forgot to hit the record button somehow, Yeah,

(22:14):
somehow it's turned into a bigger thing than that.

Speaker 11 (22:16):
I think I play tell out Ian, I've been on
one where you forgot the butt to brother.

Speaker 2 (22:20):
Let's oh maybe it is more than one. All right,
well listen, I'm old, I forget things I want just
waving on Jed.

Speaker 10 (22:28):
Jess was not there. That was the common that was.

Speaker 2 (22:31):
Definitely in Oh goodness, all right, let's get caught up
guys four and four on the season. They've got the
first of two in this weird year before we go
back into a conference next year against Oregon State. We'll
get to the Beavers in our second segment coming up
in a few minutes, because there's a familiar face running
the show on the sideline over there. We'll get to
We'll get to him in a second. Alex will start

(22:53):
with you. Just nice win. They beat Toledo. They do
so massively shorthanded Noel Isaac Terrell among there's offensive lines,
beat up but they ran the ball well, especially in
that last ride when they had to. Impressions of what
you see not just last week against Toledo, but the
two close losses on the road back east against ranked teams.

Speaker 12 (23:11):
Yeah, what really stands out to me most is that, Look,
we've all watched and participated in watching state football for
a long time, right and for years you talk about
depth or lack of depth, and if frontline guys get hurt,
you know, it feels like there's an inability, you know,
at times to overcome that, right. I think very specifically
in two thousand and six, you know, my man here

(23:32):
on the other side, on the other side of football,
and Chris so Bruce is a one man wrecking crew.
But when he got hurt, I mean, we really fell
apart right on the back end of the season in six.
And what I'm seeing with this Washington State football team
right now is their ability to overcome injuries at the
front line, right, particularly on the defensive line. I mean, ye, look,
Toledo's a physical football team. I mean, as a really

(23:52):
for people that don't are not in it day to day.
That's a fantastic win that Jimmy Rodgers and the Kugs
came away with. But they're doing it with guys Ian
like Donovan fitzmorris on on the defensive line. Right, they
had two guys transfer from to Mexico State who've played
a good role this year but not stood out, in
Buddha Paletti and so in Malache Taiasi.

Speaker 9 (24:15):
Those guys stepped up. Right.

Speaker 12 (24:16):
You're just seeing like multiple players, you know, really across
the whole team. But I thought particularly defensive line stepping up,
and that to me speaks to coaching and culture. And
that's really impressive to me. And I think there should
be a tip of the captain, Jimmy Rodgers and that
entire staff for getting these young men ready to go.

Speaker 10 (24:33):
And that's kind of what I was leaning on to you.

Speaker 11 (24:35):
And you know, I've been I've been standing on this
hill about you know, not being able to compete with
bigger conferences or teams because of the depth, and and
I have been standing on that. But to see some
of these guys come out because because Isaac Charle mean,
that guy has been a wrecking ball, like he has
been falling out all year. To not have that guy
that heartbeat and a few other those key players has

(24:57):
been very very encouraging, especial say from US older players
when we're watching it, because that's what I thought was
a sticking point.

Speaker 2 (25:05):
Well, first of all, you got hurt. How did that
chiseled piece of grounded Alex get hurt?

Speaker 9 (25:09):
K I got to be honesty.

Speaker 12 (25:11):
And m K looked a little different back in college
than he did he does right now. Man, he's more
he's more apt physically to play college football right now.

Speaker 9 (25:20):
He wasn't two thousand and six.

Speaker 10 (25:22):
I haven't peaked yet. I'm not peaking five.

Speaker 2 (25:26):
Nineteen years ago. I mean, Isaac Terrell, you's got nine
and a half tackles for loss this season. It's in
the top twenty nationally. I mean he and so not
to have him, Yeah, I think, Alex, that's what jumped
out at me is that, you know the Toledo game,
that's an easy one to go. Okay, we just went
and lost a close game to ranked Virginia. We lost
a close game to a ranked top ten, top five

(25:46):
team in ole Miss at ole Miss, and you come
home against a team from the mac Attack. But that
was arguably there are a lot of people think that
should have been or should be the best team in
the back right. And then so that's I think it's
it speaks to and I kind of want to touch
on that a little bit because before we get to
this week's game. You know, culture is I think probably
everything in sports, it doesn't even matter. I mean, it's

(26:08):
it's what what sport it is. Maybe baseball will be
the one aside, but I mean football, hockey, Uh, maybe basketball,
but certainly the physical sports. It's got to be about
the culture. And you know, I said this to you
guys at the start of the season. I still truly
believe it. I think this was a big year for
Jimmy Rogers. To come in and get into a Bowl
game would be a bonus. You know, winning is great,
we want to see that. We all kind of live

(26:29):
and die every week with the wins and losses. But
this was a year for him to establish himself as
a coach at this level, but also establish the culture. Alex,
I don't think if you're a Wazoo fan, you could
be any happier with what you've seen with Jimmy and
his staff.

Speaker 9 (26:42):
Yeah, I think, I mean, I think it's very true.

Speaker 12 (26:43):
You know, I think the you know, there's some real
challenges obviously in this day and age in college football
to be to be a coach. And but but I
think coach Rogers has the right idea, which is that
you know, if he's if he's honest with people, if
he you know, if he tells them like it is,
if he coaches hard, if he gives people an understanding
of the why, then they're going to buy in, you

(27:04):
know what I mean. I think about the quarterback situation, right,
and this is somebody asked me over the weekend if
I thought Michael Leach would be a good coach in
the nil kind of transfer polar era because of the
way coach, because of the way right, because of the way
coach handled players and handled situations.

Speaker 9 (27:17):
And my answer is yes. And the reason I say
that is because you know what what coach Leech.

Speaker 12 (27:21):
Sure he would have lost the players along the way,
but what he always could do is, you know, find
players that fit his system, get to buy into what
he wanted to do, make make more with less, and
then his honesty really allowed people to see through right
all the bs.

Speaker 2 (27:35):
Right.

Speaker 12 (27:35):
I think about the quarterback situation with Jimmy Rodgers, Right,
they go with Jackson Potter out of camp, which is fine, right,
that was the decision.

Speaker 9 (27:42):
But he made a decision quickly after a couple of
games that a player wasn't meeting the standard, and he
went quickly back to his VX coups, right, And that's
a hard thing to do.

Speaker 12 (27:49):
People take that for granted, and I think that type
of decision making in the locker room creates a lot
of buying.

Speaker 10 (27:55):
Yeah, and a lot of times too.

Speaker 11 (27:57):
It's such an unpopular decision to do that, and I
think coaches oftentimes wait because of pride.

Speaker 10 (28:03):
They're like, I made this decision. I need to make
it work. And you're right. To your credit, Alex, he
was like, I'm I'm gonna I fall on the sword.
I messed up. Let's get back to it, right, and
we know there's just more to the story. Event.

Speaker 2 (28:15):
How important was it mk for them to finish. They
didn't finish against Ole Miss, they didn't finish against Virginia,
two winnable games. But this game was I mean, it
wasn't the balance. I People look at the final score
and say, wow, I mean they've been about three touchdowns.
Toledo had a chance to tie the game and a
couple different times and had a chance to do something
and they couldn't get it done and the defense stood up.
But how important was just you hear that word all
the time in football, especially you guys on the defensive side.

(28:37):
We'll get to Alex in a second on the offensive side,
but by running the ball, but finish, how important was that?

Speaker 9 (28:41):
Well?

Speaker 11 (28:41):
Think about this like Ole miss. You see what they're
doing to people out there. They're winning games and we
took them to the wire. You know, same thing with Virginia.
But I am the biggest advocate of never giving a
moral victory. But to see a Washington State go on
the road and play the way they did was very,
very encouraging to see what the future looks like for
this team, right, So that was exciting to see. It

(29:03):
was exciting to see the defense step up and play.
Now they come over their back home in Washington at
Washington State after weeks, right, they're back at home. They
have this big win against a great to leader that
to Leedo team is a great team. I shouldn't say, gaye,
they're a very good team.

Speaker 10 (29:17):
Right.

Speaker 11 (29:17):
And to see the defense go out there eleven heads
to the football, you know, holding the seven points, that's
exactly what you want to see your defense do at
home is hold a team to seven points or less.

Speaker 2 (29:26):
Alex finishing on the offensive side, especially right, how big
was that?

Speaker 12 (29:30):
I mean yeah, I mean that last kind of drive
or second to last drive, whatever you want to count it,
where they everybody knew they were running the football right
and they had to and they had to do and
they went and executed kind of put that finishing score
in the fourth Jimmy Jimmy.

Speaker 9 (29:43):
Rodgers been talking about it all year, trying to find
that right.

Speaker 12 (29:46):
And also, mind you, they're doing it down to right tackles, right,
They've got a gun an offensive line. They moved around
completely with no Dunam at left guard, you know, and
they still rush for their highest output on the year,
right one hundred over one hundred and sixty yards, so
I thought.

Speaker 9 (30:00):
But in the end, that was really impressive.

Speaker 12 (30:01):
I think, you know, Zebie Cows is going to watch
that film and and realize he needs to be a
little bit tighter with the football because to your point,
and if the defense didn't, if the defense didn't stand
up like it could have gotten real tight.

Speaker 9 (30:13):
But look, that's part of playing compmentary football, you know
what I mean.

Speaker 12 (30:16):
Quarterbacks turn the ball over sometimes right, defenses sometimes give
up big plays.

Speaker 9 (30:20):
You got to find a way to make it work.

Speaker 12 (30:21):
And you've noticed this team, uh seems to be able
to do that right for the most part.

Speaker 10 (30:26):
And here he loves barhe's too. I mean to see
him run.

Speaker 2 (30:28):
You were running. Hey, one sixty two and two touchdowns.
We'll take that all day. All right, let's do this,
take a quick break. We'll come back. Familiar face on
the opposing sideline for Oregon State. They're going through all
kinds of problems down to Corvallis. We'll talk about that next.
Not even gage your FM.

Speaker 1 (30:49):
From the R and R Foundation specialist broadcast studio. Now
back to Ian Fornesz powered My Seattle was closest sports
book Snow call me casino and hotel on Sports Radio
ninety three point three kJ R FM.

Speaker 2 (31:05):
All Right, here we go, Sega saving cous Not since
nineteen forty five have the Coogs and the Beavers played
twice in one season. It's a unique year, obviously, with
the transition from the old PAC twelve to next year's
new PAC twelve. So two, I mean, both teams having
to fill out schedules just kind of a little bit
of a Gong show in that regard. So two games
get home at home against the Beaver is very NFL like,

(31:26):
let's let's go first and foremost big changes down in
corvallis really Trent Bray's good dude and he was a
former It's it's I think there's some Paul Wolf there
in a sense, you know, a great Kug and a
great Beaver and then it just didn't work out at
their alma mater as a head coach. They let him go. Alex,
you're down there close to it as well. They brought
in a guy that we're all familiar with, drim coach

(31:47):
man coach Akey. He'll be jumping up and down, running
around the sideline. I don't know, he's like seventy years old.
And the guy looks like he's thirty five when he's
jumping around there. But tell us about what's going on
with the Beaves and having rob Aky. I just a
good dude all the way around. And uh and I'm
sure he's got that team playing better.

Speaker 10 (32:04):
Well.

Speaker 12 (32:04):
Yeah, I was in Sasure, which you know candidly that
they would have waited on the coach brave fire and
until after the year because as as MK can attest
to the one thing that you know rob Akey does
best is motivated players right and gets buy in. And
then a tough season, Oregon States got all sorts of issues,
you know, on the field and off the field, right
they they rob Aky's kind of just what they need

(32:25):
and he helped study the ship a little bit. They
get a win against Lafayette, which FCS opponent. But at
the same time, when you when you don't have a
win on the season, but you'll take them wherever you
can get them, and so and then on top of that,
right the Beavers are coming off of bye week, so
they get a chance to kind of settle in. You know,
this this one scares me honestly because it's the type
of game that you can easily overlook. You but I

(32:45):
watched the film right of Oregon State. They still have
the you know, the same level caliber of players that
you would expect at Oregon State. They just haven't put
the schemes together. And so you know they've got you know,
offensive coordinator. They may have changed there where they went
from Ryan Gunderson to Danny Langsdorf, who's a long time
offensive coordinat for Oregon State. So you know, he knows
what he's doing. You got you know Rob, you know,
coach Shakey's obviously the headman now. And you know, on defense,

(33:06):
a couple of guys that have been.

Speaker 9 (33:07):
Around the block.

Speaker 12 (33:08):
So I you know, again, I think Washington State needs
to be very focused on this game.

Speaker 9 (33:11):
I think from an Oregon State perspective.

Speaker 12 (33:13):
You know, they have a guy in Rob Aky that
everybody loves, and if you need to play for a
guy you love, and they got nothing to lose.

Speaker 11 (33:20):
Yeah, I mean, you know, we're looking at these coaches too.
They're so special to a lot of us because you remember,
you know, as these young players, when you leave your home,
your parents aren't there anymore. These coaches become your your
father figures, right or your your your leaders or mentors
and things like that. So you know Rob Baker, we
used to call him Pops like that was like our dad.

Speaker 8 (33:38):
You know.

Speaker 10 (33:38):
I was seventeen years old when I walked on the campus.

Speaker 11 (33:41):
You know, so this guy, you know, he he instilled
confidence in me as a young athlete. You know, he
got me excited about playing football. You know, I was
a quarterback in high school. Ho'm if I told you
that of the crap quarterback, but I ended up playing
defensive line. He was my first defensive line coach in college,
and he brought that that dog out of me essentially right.
And he has the ability to take a player Dimon

(34:03):
in the rough and get the max out of him.
So that's what I love about rob Akon. I'm glad
he landed on his feet there. But but again, like
Alex said, I think Washington State's gonna I think they're
gonna put the old screws to him for sure.

Speaker 2 (34:15):
First of all, I know your high school coach. I
know all about your high school career. You were alleged
at Liberty like you were legend at Liberty, I think.
And I hear the name Ryan Gunnerson. God did I
Were you in the same All State game in Oregon
with him? Yeah, Alex, Yeah, I called that game on
the radio. Yeah, I did that game on the radio
the old PG Park before he renovated it. Now I'm
feeling old, and now I'm feeling old more so. The

(34:35):
Pomps pops achey. All right, let's just we'll kind of
wrap it up with this four and four. It's there's
very winnable games left on the schedule. Alex, his team's
got some really good opportunities down the stretch to get
to that six win plateau seven or eight even as
possible for sure, Alex, how important is it to get
to that level? I mean, I know bowl games maybe
aren't what they used to be with the college Football playoff,

(34:57):
but for a program like ours, how important is it
to get those wins?

Speaker 9 (35:00):
Yeah? The national visibility is vital, you know.

Speaker 12 (35:02):
I mean you see where Oregon State's at right, Like,
when it goes off the rails, it becomes a real
problem when it both from kind of your national national prominence, recruiting,
you know, fundraising, like all.

Speaker 9 (35:14):
The things become immensely difficult.

Speaker 12 (35:15):
And you can see on the flip side, you know,
the rhetoric around Washington State right now is so positive. Right,
two tough road wins to erod losses to you know,
ranked opponents, and then your home win.

Speaker 9 (35:24):
I mean people, you know, I think people are feeling
pretty good.

Speaker 13 (35:26):
Now.

Speaker 12 (35:26):
What I will say is, you know, coups have kind
of gotten back control of their season, right, Like you said,
four winnable games left a lot on the table here.
They need to take advantage, right, because I think you
would feel it will it'll feel like last year a
little bit if if you end up six and six
in my opinion, where it's like you left a few
on you left some on the table, right and so,
but you know that being said, imagine seven or eight

(35:48):
wins for this team with those close losses to Old
Miss in Virginia. I think people would say, hey, this
is a really positive year one for Jimmy Rodgers hundred percent.

Speaker 10 (35:58):
There's I mean, you kind of said it any better.

Speaker 11 (36:00):
Seven and eight wins this season is an absolute w
four for Washington State moving forward and then going into
next year.

Speaker 10 (36:05):
And I think it's going to help with recruiting as well.

Speaker 2 (36:07):
Yeah, I think I think that's the thing is is
you want to have those extra opportunities, the extra practices,
all those things. And Alex you mentioned it going on.
I mean, what happened to Oregon State is just crazy,
you know, and how fast it just dropped. And I
think the one dangerous thing Alex you mentioned this on
the radio broadcast the other day. I think it was
there's still Division one players, there's still you know, f

(36:28):
there's still power five, power four, whatever you want to
call it. Caliber players on on Wazoo's team and on
Oregon State's team. Right, there's still dudes they recruited. That's
why this is a dangerous team, a dangerous game, and
Akey's going to have them ready to go.

Speaker 12 (36:41):
Yeah, I mean, I mean the running back Anthony Hankerson,
I mean, he's a real threat.

Speaker 9 (36:45):
He's a real player.

Speaker 7 (36:46):
Right.

Speaker 12 (36:46):
The wide receiver group's really good, you know, quarterback wise,
they're trying to figure it out. But both players are talented.
They both can beat you, and so in Jabari Johnson
and Milaike Murphy. So again, I just I think Washington
State and I think they will. But you know, this
is going to be a defense led game again, and
you can't turn the football over on the road, as
we found out, you know at Virginia. So you know,
we'll see how this team responds to some positivity, right, posit.

(37:09):
Lets see how they respond to two good things happening and.

Speaker 10 (37:11):
Heads off to the deep.

Speaker 11 (37:12):
The defense is playing amazing, but but another thing on
top of that is how do you get the defense
off the field, And that's getting first downs?

Speaker 10 (37:18):
And we've seen Washington State get a lot more first
down since that it's been in the game.

Speaker 2 (37:22):
Yeah, no, it's been it's been fun to watch. All right,
I'll start with you. We'll call you QB two from
your days starting at Liberty High School. To tell us
about what you got going on with mortgages and workouts.

Sounders lost of Minnesota first round the MLS Playoffs. At
least it's the best of three, Thank goodness. Minnesota won
three to two on penalty kicks. They scored three penalty kicks.

(39:52):
Seattle miss three penalty kicks. Still trying to figure out
how that happens when Schmetz are on worse felts. He's
got to answer for this. You want me he's impressed
Andrew Thomas' goal. That's what you make the switch. You
put Andrew in gole with pks. Stephs, we love you,
Steph ring of honor.

Speaker 9 (40:10):
Guy.

Speaker 2 (40:10):
If there is such a thing in soccer but you
can't stop at PK, I might have a better chance
right now that needs and all probably abut day high school.
NFL Power rankings are out for a NFL dot Com
Shawks ranked number six, following thereby John Lund. We're hoping
for in just a couple.

Speaker 4 (40:25):
Of seconds, trying to reach in.

Speaker 2 (40:26):
All right, we'll move on to the two o'clockown. I'll
I'll let you work on it.

Speaker 1 (40:30):
From the R and R Foundation Specialist Broadcast studio. Now
back to Ian Fernez, powered by Seattle Closest sports book,
Snow call me Casino and Hotel on Sports Radio ninety
three point three kJ r f M.

Speaker 2 (40:47):
All right with the two oclock hour, Hopefully Lend will
join us here. In just a couple of seconds, I'll
get a thumbs up from one of you two and
we'll move on and get him in there. Big thanks
to Josh, and we didn't get anally chance to react
to Joe after the we at the Cougar segment the
last couple of minutes the the conversation with Joe regarding
Dan Wilson, and I wanted just to kind of move on,
but we teased it last week and we couldn't connect

(41:09):
with Joe. We had some issues, so I wanted to
get his thoughts because he wrote about it. Extensively about
the Dan Wilson part of the Mariner's playoff run. And
first of all, let me just take one step back.
If you are one of those that's going to look
at an award like the Sporting News Manager of the
Year in the American League, please don't. First of all,

(41:29):
the fact and I know peers vote on stuff like
that with the Sporting News, but I don't know. I
have a hard time taking a publication seriously that when
the day announcement was awards, they also laid off half
their staff. So weird, but that's not what it's about.
Joe did a great job in that segment of talking
about why last night's game was epic in so many ways.

(41:53):
And one of the reasons last night's game was so wild,
whether you like Roberts or not, like Schneider or not,
the two managers had to go toe to toe and
they had to earn their key last night. And we
like to say in sports, there's a big well the
sport that it doesn't matter the most matters the least.
Coaching is baseball, not last night. And it wasn't just

(42:14):
the manager, it was it had to be a team effort.
Your pitching coach, your bullpen coach, your assistant pitching coach,
all the above had to know the following who's available,
how long can they go? What are the matchups? Because
we still have to look at all those things and
we're trying to figure all that out. And what Crawford

(42:35):
said in our group text last night, I was thinking
it was a tweet, but he doesn't tweet anymore.

Speaker 9 (42:39):
Nope.

Speaker 2 (42:41):
So but what he was saying last night, Andrews, was
that one of the things, like for it to be
a classic game, you know, I'd like to see some
more runs. And initially I agreed with him because I think,
I think, you know what, give me a run in
the top of the twelfth and answer to the bottom
of the thirteenth or bottom of the twelfth, same thing.
In the fifteenth or sixteenth. We had no runs.

Speaker 4 (43:00):
A lot of the case, more scoring equals more exciting.

Speaker 2 (43:04):
Last night was maybe the exception of the rule. And
Chris admittedly hadn't watched most of the game. Sure he
had some other stuff going on. So and I'm thinking
about it, And then we talked to Joe today. That
might have been one of the wildest, fun most fun
crazy baseball games. Now it lasted too long for being honest, like,
it just lasted too long. But no strangers to that here,
No we're not, but everything that went into that, And

(43:27):
then I started thinking, hmm, unfairly or not? And maybe
this is unfairly. I started to think, well, if it
was the Mariners and Dan Wilson as opposed to John
Schneider and the Blue Jays would have even got to eighteen,
because if you can't manage a Game seven in the

(43:48):
sixth inning, how can you manage a World Series game
in the tenth through eighteenth innings? Right?

Speaker 10 (43:54):
Right?

Speaker 2 (43:55):
And I don't know if that's a fair criticism or not,
but after talking to Joe at one o'clock, I think
maybe it is. I think maybe that is a fair criticism.
But last night take nothing away. Yeah.

Speaker 4 (44:04):
I equate it to like a lot of people like
to bag on soccer because there's not very much scoring, right,
but there can be so much that goes on in
a one zero or one one game besides just the
goals that are scored. There can be just crazy clearances,
great saves, injuries, red cards, all that kind of stuff.

(44:25):
And I kind of equate that's baseball's version of it
last night. Even though there wasn't a ton of scoring
for an eighteen inning game, I think there was so
many and I think Joe put it perfectly baseball plays
that had to be made, whether it was Villi gross
thort of third base to get Taoscar Hernandez out. By
the way, you guys got the full ta Oskar Hernandez
experience last night. A home run, a base running mistake,

(44:49):
and a couple bad throws, and right, they're yeah, exactly.

Speaker 2 (44:53):
I mean he cut the I mean he hit the
cutoff man to get the guy out.

Speaker 4 (44:56):
To say, the game and you descend from John Schneider
in that moment with La Guerrero Junior on deck with
two outs.

Speaker 2 (45:02):
Okay, so I thought about that too, and that's the
book would say, no, yes, but there's two outs, correct,
you have a guy that's a fast runner, correct, and
it would have taken what happened and absolutely perfect and
I mean a perfect play. Yeah, throw from an outfield,
throw to the cutoff man, and throw home.

Speaker 9 (45:21):
Yeah.

Speaker 4 (45:21):
The only reason I'm a little bit hesitant on it
is because he was out by so much.

Speaker 2 (45:25):
He was out by a time. Yeah, if it.

Speaker 4 (45:27):
Was a close play, it's like all right, you try
to get the run of two outs, so I understand,
but uh yeah, you just you hate to see moments
like that because man just going against him. You know
how scary Vlad can be, and leaving that guy on
deck with two outs is a little it leaves a
rough taste in your mouth.

Speaker 2 (45:44):
You can go back. It's an interesting thing you brought up
to about soccer because you know, I we had we
had a hockey game last week that was that was
basically kind of like a one nothing or zero zero
hockey soccer game in the sense that it was it
was a three nothing game, but it's one nothing until
they hit two mpon enders of the end. Yet I

(46:05):
would make the argument as one of the best games
I've ever seen, Like it was phenomenal, the Winnipeg game.
It was just an incredible game, and we talked about
on our post game show, Elson and I did so.
I think most of us always want more scoring, but
sometimes less scoring means more intense action. Now soccer is
a different beast, and I understand because it is inherently
low scoring and people are kind of not into that sometimes.

(46:27):
But Andrews is right there. There are games that you know,
you watch it. Well, hell, we're what are we ten
months away? Nine months away from the World Cup? Coming here?
You're gonna see games at a zero zero and one
nothing then one nil rather that are that are incredibly
intense along the way, all right, johnlens here, let's go.

Speaker 1 (46:43):
Welcome to Ian's weekly visit with John Lund Unleashed. He's
a Bay Area media icon who's known the in for
over twenty five years. But don't let their age change
your opinion of them. John takes you through the Bay
Area and the NFC West and dupes it out. We're
the Inn over the Niners and the Hawks. So let's
unleasha now with John lond Here's e and all right,

(47:05):
so now we're gonna have to get a new open mate.
Make a note of this, right, we have to get
a new open made. John lun joins us right now.

Speaker 2 (47:10):
We've accared, we've had we've had a couple of weeks
of early hockey and no shows, short shows type of stuff.
But we're glad to have him back with uscause's a
lot of NFL to talk, a lot of football to talk.
But it's no longer John Londa Leisha, what we got
going on now, fella, No, you know what we did.

Speaker 7 (47:25):
We I got a whole company now and people working
for me, and we're calling it p f B Wire
Pro Football Wire, and we're doing all of the NFL.
I got sick of just doing the Niner. It was
very I don't know, I'm not gonna call it insufferable
because you would call them I'm insufferable. But we just
we expanded the whole.

Speaker 9 (47:43):
Thing out for the entire league.

Speaker 7 (47:45):
We're doing all of the NFL.

Speaker 2 (47:46):
I love it awesome. So when when are you want?
When you know? When can people find you? Where do
they find you? Now?

Speaker 7 (47:53):
So hit me up right now. We're doing a website
and everything, and we're doing like Sunday Monday thirty day
on YouTube. But we're doing a ton of stuff as
like aggregators and things like that on X and all
social media. So at PfP wire, that's all you'll find
this everywhere.

Speaker 2 (48:08):
That's awesome.

Speaker 7 (48:09):
And we just started this venture up and it's it's
actually been off to a really good start.

Speaker 2 (48:12):
I love it. Well, good job, congrats man, that's cool.
That's very cool. Yeah, I was like, looking back, I
used to go back and I have tried to listen to
John Lonnon un the leash and I haven't seen it
up there for a while, and I'm like, all right,
well whatever, he's, you know, busy guy doing stuff.

Speaker 7 (48:23):
So good transitioning for transitioning.

Speaker 2 (48:26):
Did you see you have people working for you?

Speaker 7 (48:30):
Dude, I've had people work for me before. You have
the same reaction that everybody has. I've programmed radio stations,
I've been the boss, I've been the rich more I've
been that, I've been that, I've done it all right,
people have worked for me before.

Speaker 10 (48:42):
I know.

Speaker 7 (48:43):
It's unbelievable.

Speaker 2 (48:44):
You know what have you know what? You're right? I
forgot you. I forgot you were a program director. I
forgot about that. Yeah, I forgot was.

Speaker 7 (48:54):
Very good at it.

Speaker 2 (48:54):
Yeah, well yeah I did. Maybe the third or four
maybe the third or fourth time will be a charm.
What the hell? Right? You get it done?

Speaker 9 (49:03):
Never know?

Speaker 2 (49:04):
Keep on trying fall bike enough times? Well let's talk NFL, buddy,
let's go see. I was coming off of bye week.
The forty nine ers are five and three after losing
to Houston, and I'm saying, all all joking aside, are
they doing it at five and three with smoking mirrors
or what? We saw last week some struggles in Houston.
Is that kind of where it's going to be because

(49:25):
the injuries are unbelievable.

Speaker 7 (49:28):
Well, I think it's a camp because yeah, they have
like a hundre. It's unbelievable in that they have nearly
one hundred million dollars on the books of injuries and
it's by far the most in the league. But I
think what's most applicable this week is, you guys just
saw Houston and look, that's a good defense. But they
just bottled up CJ. Stroud and they bottled up this offense.
And if it wasn't for all the turnovers and all

(49:50):
the dumb stuff that they did, they'd probably blown out
Houston buy a few touchdowns. And that was at home
where they don't.

Speaker 9 (49:56):
Play as well.

Speaker 7 (49:56):
So you know, the forty nine ers Mac Jones can
only go so far. These dummies who were saying, well,
you know, he's as good as party, No he's not.
He's not even the same thing. And they engineered the
offense so that Matt Jones could be competent in this offense,
but he's not the same thing. And then, like you said,
when you lose Bosa and you lose Warner and the
Seahawks have lost these type of players. It's not just

(50:17):
the production on the field, it's the leadership and it's
what they provide. And when you look right next to him,
you know, like when Scattaboy got hurt for the Giants,
it was just like the the air came out of
the balloon. That's the type of players that they're losing.
So I think Kyle Shanahan's doing a great job, and
I know in Seattle you're not gonna believe that, and
you're not going to agree with that. He's doing maybe
his best job ever. But they just don't have the horses. Man.

(50:39):
Their offensive line is not very good, and they want
to do what Seattle wants to do when I run
the ball. They want to play defense. They want to
play smash mouth. When you don't have an offensive line
that can do it, when you don't have a defensive
line that can do it, and you lose your heart
beat and your linebacker. You know, it's just one of
those years for them, And it was one of those
years for them last year. So they've got a lot
of injuries. They've got the most injuries in the league.
And I don't care how good the.

Speaker 9 (51:00):
Team you are.

Speaker 7 (51:00):
Now they're lying to me and you and I talk
about this a lot. They were going to rely on
a lot of rookies anyway, and now those rookies have
to play an or amount of snaps and it's just
not gonna work.

Speaker 2 (51:09):
Once refresh my memory because both is out for the year.
Is we're out for the year? Yep?

Speaker 10 (51:13):
He is? Okay?

Speaker 7 (51:14):
Oh yeah, his foot turned the wrong one. It was
one of those you know, those ones just like Scattery
just had like one of those ones where the announcers like,
you know, uh, well, we're not going to show you this,
you know, and then of course I got to do
is go to social media and they'll show it a
million times. Yeah, he was one of those ones that
he had the dislocated ankle where you know it's going
the wrong way. Can you that's not good?

Speaker 2 (51:33):
Do you watch that or do you look away?

Speaker 7 (51:36):
I watch it. I can't help it.

Speaker 6 (51:38):
At least I knew once and I.

Speaker 2 (51:40):
Why did I do that?

Speaker 7 (51:41):
You know?

Speaker 9 (51:41):
Yeah?

Speaker 2 (51:42):
I don't watch it, Yeah exactly, I don't watch it.
My kid. My kid watches it. He's just like he'll
watch it. We'll watching red Zone. Oh, oh no, rewind that.
I'm like, no, No, idiots completely, I wouldn't think that
because he played, he wouldn't want to see it, you know,
because he played offensive line. He's an offensive lineman. Those
guys are different. Like there would be guys I watched
him the play. They'd be guys like you know, broken

(52:04):
legs or something like, you know, bad on the field,
and you know who would always walk over the offensive
line just to kind of look at and see what's
going on, your legs going the wrong way. Like they're
just yeah, they're just a different for a little and
like I'm like, no, man, I I can't watch that.
They can't rewind it. No, I'm not rewinding it, idiot,
all right, Yeah go ahead.

Speaker 7 (52:25):
No, I just gonna say like when Scottby was sitting
on the ground and the guy was trying to help
him up, but it was like you couldn't see his
foot because he turned Like I mean, I was like, like,
I scream. I don't know how guys do it. I
don't know if guys do it.

Speaker 2 (52:39):
I don't know if the trainers different people.

Speaker 7 (52:42):
I don't either. Like if that happened and I was
a trainer, I'd be like, no, not going out, Like
what do you mean You're not going out? I'm not
going out, Like I'm not fixing that. No, I don't
want to look at that.

Speaker 2 (52:50):
Who's Who's the best team in the NFC right now?
Is it l A, Is it Green Bag Philly?

Speaker 7 (52:58):
If Jordan Love is going to play the way that
he played against Pittsburgh, then it could be Green Bay
because now Michael Parsons is starting to play like at
the beginning, it was like you just let him go
and he's killing it. So you've got a problem with
Michael Parsons. If Jordan Love is gonna play that way,
I mean, Tyler Craft's not gonna play that way all
the time. But I mean, right now, I think it's
between Green Bay and Detroit. I think that's a big thing.

(53:19):
Although you know what I'm seeing all the you know,
the power rankings that don't matter of them in college football,
and a lot of them have the Seahawks up there,
and I like the Seahawks and I like Darnold. The
thing that scares me, and you can tell me this
is do they have enough on the back end? Like
Love's gonna come back, Witherspoon's gonna come back. Are they
moving to Eke Woland? Is he going somewhere else? If so,
it's like an Alante Taylor gonna come from from New

(53:41):
Orleans because you can't just move Trike Wollan And I
like Josh Joe, but he's not quite as good as
he was earlier in the year, So you know, I
think they're scoring. And then the other thing too is
you know who's catching the ball opposite Smith and Jig
But I love that guy and can see how to
run the ball enough. I mean to me, I like Seattle,
like do but I don't think they're on the same
level as a Green bearer to Troy because of what

(54:03):
I just mentioned. Can they run the ball? They have
it enough so far, which in the playoffs you have
to be able to do. And do they have enough
on the back end, like when is Witherspoon coming back?
When is Love coming back? And even then I don't
know if they may need to get a corner. And
I saw Mike McDonald today when he was when he
was asked about it, and he kind of smiled. And
that's what the Seahawks do. They're gonna make an impact trade.

(54:24):
It's just a matter of where do they go with it?

Speaker 2 (54:27):
Yeah, I think I don't think they just answer that.
I don't think you trade Woolen just because they saw
up close how quickly you can get Sinn at that
cornerback position, right, And the same with Reek's weird. I mean,
he's six', four he's. Long his testing was like in
the ninety nine percentile for almost. Everything the only thing

(54:49):
you have to question And i'm kind of paraphrasing our, guy,
humillin you, know what's what's his compete? Level? Sometimes? Right
and but the, guy there's so much there and then
all of a, sudden when you get down into cornerbacks,
five six and seven like they were for a couple of,
weeks it's a little bit, terrifying like it's not a good.
Thing AND i think that's why, you're you, know you're

(55:09):
a little hesitant to move. HIM i don't know if
they can run the ball well. ENOUGH i guess that's the, Thing,
LIKE i don't know if they can run the. Ball and,
they you, know like at least the forty nine, ers they, know,
hey Like christian McCaffrey's our. Guy we don't mess around
With robinson or anybody. Else it's like he's our. Guy
it's even with The rams sometimes Like kyrien's your. Guy
why Is Blake korham getting? Carries like we asked why
is Zax? Sharmon why is Sax charbony getting? Carries like,

(55:31):
Enough i'll get. It it makes sense and that's.

Speaker 7 (55:34):
WHY i and that's HOW i look at the. Division
the forty nine ers are too beat up The cardinals
of The cardinals And rams AND i talked about. It,
YEAH i mean, whatever The cardinals really but you, know
and then you know The rams defensively they're really really.
Good but you know the, stafford what's going on With.
Puka he'll be back at some, point and Then DeVante

(55:55):
adams when he was. Gone when if they get everybody
on the same, page they could be scared off pensively and,
Defensively but The seahawks when they AND i know everybody
kind of listened to what everybody says nationally about. Him The,
SEAHAWKS i don't know how you would describe, him but
they kind of have thish thing going. On like, defensively
they're just getting better and better and better and again
at the back end holds. Up AND i have no

(56:15):
issues With donald LIKE i told you at the whole.
Time smith And jib is absolutely. Awesome and then you,
know can they get? Enough BECAUSE i really think they
can get. Better that's the one thing about The seahawks
IS i don't think they're playing at their. MAX i
think that they're gonna they're gonna get better and. BETTER
i think they're gonna get better. DEFENSIVELY i think they're
gonna get better. OFFENSIVELY i think That Sam donald's you,
know won some, games learned some lessons and really hasn't

(56:38):
been at his best in the last couple of, weeks
AND i think he can actually played.

Speaker 2 (56:41):
Better, YEAH i think the McDonald to the to the
defense is Like shanahana McVeigh, Offense like you can lose, key,
guys but you still have pretty high level of, play
just because the coaches at such an elite level in
terms of how he thinks and how he. Coaches AND i,
think you, KNOW i think see that With. KYLE i,
Mean Mac jones looks like a player all of a,
sudden like no one thought he was a, player, RIGHT

(57:01):
i was, like this guy's, done he's washed. Up you can't.
PLAY i, Mean i'm sure you guys are. Down i'm,
sure there's people down there, debating, like, right is there
is there a Pretty jones debate going? On, yeah there
is A i mean.

Speaker 7 (57:12):
There was for a, minute but then you start seeing
him kind of come back down to earth. Lie but
not that he played poor Against. Houston houston's got a
really good. Defense, again you guys saw, it but you
made so many, mistakes but it just didn't matter because
your defense was good. Enough the forty nine ers just
don't have that luxury right now with all of their. Injuries,
well LIKE i, said if you count out the forty nine,
ers that's problematic as. Well they're five and three, SOMEHOW

(57:33):
i don't really know, how but he figures it out.
Enough the pretty injury is more than people. Think by the,
way everybody hears a toe and they just for Brock,
perdy they, go, well why can't the guy play Man
Ronnie lot cut off. Thumb it's just not the same.
Thing and when he's when he's not, PLAYING i don't
care what anybody, says and all the national shows screaming
And yellen Rock perry's a really good. Quarterback he's a top,

(57:54):
ten top twelve quarterback depending on the week in this.
League he's much better than Mac jones is and that
gives their offense because what's happening with the forty nine
ers right now is they have to score thirty to
win because defensively, now with all the injuries that they,
have they're just and they don't have Any AND i
told you this right at the beginning of the. Year
they don't have any depth in the, secondary especially at the.
Corners their safeties are young and getting, exposed so They

(58:18):
Robert sala is doing a masterful. Job in, Fact robert
sala this is good news For seahawks.

Speaker 2 (58:22):
FANS i.

Speaker 7 (58:22):
THINK i Think Robert salo is going to be one
and done as defensive coordinator of the forty nine, ers
and he'll be. Gone and remember how Bad kyle. STRUGGLED i,
mean he hired like three defensive coordinators in three, years
even though they went to A Super. Bowl he couldn't
figure it. Out and what he wants is a guy
who can just take the defense and you, say, okay,
fine just that side you. HAVE i don't want to do.
It kyle hates special, teams he hates dealing with. Defense

(58:42):
he just wants to be an offensive. Mastermind and if
he has. Solid he can do. That if he, doesn't
then he can't and it becomes a problem for the
forty nine. Ers BUT i Think sala has done such
a masterful. Job unless they fall apart in the second
half of the, year he's going to be one and
done and that's good. News bring Back Thomas.

Speaker 2 (58:58):
Sule wasn't the defensive coach or? Something what was?

Speaker 7 (59:01):
He who is?

Speaker 2 (59:02):
That bring him?

Speaker 10 (59:04):
Back?

Speaker 7 (59:05):
Tom, yeah he was the. Worst you, know it's bad
because lots of times these coaches can win the press
conference like it might be pretty. Good Jim tom Sue
wa blew the press. CONFERENCE i mean it was. Terrible
it was just he was asking, questions he'd know. Anything
it was just, like oh my, god what have they?
Done and it was, JUST i, mean he couldn't even
need the press conference first ten minutes like this is

(59:26):
this is gonna be a, disaster and it.

Speaker 2 (59:27):
Was we got we got a couple a couple of.
Texts people want to, know can they still rip you on?
YouTube can they? Still can they still trash?

Speaker 6 (59:35):
You?

Speaker 2 (59:35):
Where can where can we find lone to rip?

Speaker 10 (59:37):
Him?

Speaker 2 (59:37):
Page, okay, yeah.

Speaker 7 (59:39):
It's AT pfe. Wire it's the exact same page and
it's just got MORE nfl stuff on. It you don't
have some forty nine or stuff on. It but of
course you can constantly go For, yes, ABSOLUTELY i love.
It it's it's it actually makes my. Day. OKAY i
do get more and more and more stuff. From the
more you, win the more GRIEF i. Get like when

(59:59):
they Lost, Houston i'm, LIKE i don't even know these.
People what are they doing coming after? ME i. DON'T
i don't play for the forty.

Speaker 10 (01:00:04):

Speaker 2 (01:02:10):
You John, Lond John lynn joining. Us take your. Break
jess has a pick For Factor fiction coming up. Next
where's that to? Go glad you're with.

Speaker 1 (01:02:20):
Us it's your shot at our weekly thousand bucks and
the ten thousand dollars grand. Prize It's Factor, fiction probably
presented By Lucky Eagle casino and hotel where every day feels.
Lucky Factor fiction is On Sports radio ninety three point
three kJ R.

Speaker 2 (01:02:39):
Fm All, Right Factor fiction brought to you by The
Lucky Egle. Casino every day it feels. LUCKY a chance

dollar grand, prize simple as That jess is going to
give you a pick. Today if you, agree you'll text
fact to four nine four or five. One if you
disagree fiction to four nine four to five to, one fire, Away,
Well i'll.

Speaker 3 (01:02:58):
Give you the.

Speaker 13 (01:02:59):
Pick is a route to be wrong, Situation i'm taking
The niners minus two and a half as they host The.
Giants Or i'm sorry they traveled to The, giants they
are Visiting New. York BUT i just think That scatby Without,
scataboo that that team is just too inexperienced and high pressure.

Speaker 3 (01:03:17):
Situations and The.

Speaker 13 (01:03:19):
Niners as we just heard From John, LUND i mean
you asked them if they were smoking. Mirrors they're still
atop THE Nfc. West SO i don't think that The
giants are in any, way shape or form going to
keep that a close game at. All SO i think
that they're going to get handily. Defeated so a two

(01:03:40):
and a half differential at this, Point i'm taking The
niners minus two and a.

Speaker 2 (01:03:44):
Half all, right do you like to?

Speaker 4 (01:03:46):
Pick and is she going to get her second win
of the. Year, YEAH i think this one's. Good The
giants are just not just in terms of THE i
play on the. Field it's more just you could tell
the team When skataboo went down just like.

Speaker 3 (01:03:59):
Deflated, exactly and you have a young quarterback.

Speaker 2 (01:04:02):
And quarterback not a little.

Speaker 13 (01:04:03):
Weapons, yeah, yeah exactly like. That he he was the
team was, writing this is a big pick for. You
it really, is especially considering last week WHEN i picked
against my own.

Speaker 3 (01:04:13):
TEAM i was mad that they came back and. Won,
YES i was mad.

Speaker 4 (01:04:19):
They're not doing anything this. Year not as mad as,
me BUT i was mad, too trust.

Speaker 8 (01:04:24):
Me oh, right, yeah Because jess And jackson are tied
with one each one winning.

Speaker 4 (01:04:31):
Got six Though jackson's won and.

Speaker 2 (01:04:34):
Five he'll, be he'll. Be did he take a pick?

Speaker 13 (01:04:36):
Yesterday oh they got a couple off because of early cracking.

Speaker 3 (01:04:41):
Games, yes Though.

Speaker 4 (01:04:45):
Jackson picks. Tomorrow so you got the you got the room.

Speaker 2 (01:04:50):
For, you just we really need you to.

Speaker 13 (01:04:52):
Pass JACK i am confident in this.

Speaker 2 (01:04:54):
PICK i say that as someone who's just having a
tremendous season myself.

Speaker 10 (01:04:59):
Eight and.

Speaker 13 (01:05:00):
THIRTEEN i think that just speaks to the parody of
the league and the unpredictability is what it.

Speaker 3 (01:05:06):
IS i do think THAT i think we've seen a
lot of.

Speaker 2 (01:05:09):
INJURIES i Think i'm already nine and thirteen after my
pick yesterday With Georgia, tech SO.

Speaker 4 (01:05:13):
I could tell you are confident about that the one. Yesterday,
yeah Just Haines king against the Fighting. Chads it's an easy,
pick all. Right undefeated one last time in the pick.

Speaker 3 (01:05:23):
Chests oh that is the forty nine ers minus two
and a.

Speaker 13 (01:05:27):
HALF i can root to be, wrong but they are
playing The, giants so it's kind of inconsequential to you,
know our specific rooting interests when it comes to THE Nfc. West,
however we do want to see them go. DOWN i
just don't do.

Speaker 3 (01:05:40):
It i'm rooting to be. Right, Actually but if it's
kind of like a.

Speaker 2 (01:05:45):
He it's a hedge soft it's a softy like.

Speaker 13 (01:05:47):
Hedge it is a little bit of a. Hedge but
and you, know my my godfather is a Huge giants.
FAN i got a lot Of New york people who
Are giants, fans so it's not Like i'm a fan of.

Speaker 3 (01:05:57):
Theirs, HOWEVER i don't root against, them and.

Speaker 4 (01:05:59):
They don't have to blow him. Out just one by field,
Goal just a field goals all you gotta.

Speaker 2 (01:06:02):
Do that's, it all, Right so here we, go four,
nine four five one, fact if you go With jess
forty nine ers minus two and a half against The.
Giants if you discrew With, jess don't look at a.
Record just look at today's. Pick, no don't look at.

Speaker 13 (01:06:13):
One OF i was about to tell people because whether
it's factor, fiction this start tactic him.

Speaker 3 (01:06:18):
Fiction as soon as you hear it's.

Speaker 2 (01:06:19):
My, pick your jass when a foul. Stark by the,
way it is a cracking Ticket. Tuesday but we already
give away both, pairs right have we done? That?

Speaker 9 (01:06:26):
Anders?

Speaker 4 (01:06:26):
Yes, yeah, sorry all, right all, Right.

Speaker 2 (01:06:28):
Softy And dick And jackson will do that again starting
at three. O'clock we'll talk To softy. Next why it

(01:06:48):
feels like it's been forever SINCE i seen this guy
talk to, him but he's back.

Speaker 9 (01:06:52):
Here he.

Speaker 2 (01:06:52):
IS i talked to you. Yesterday, no but SINCE i
seen you in, person one of us has always been.
Gone have you noticed that we really need to see each?

Speaker 8 (01:06:59):
Other not?

Speaker 2 (01:07:00):
REALLY i don't. Know Find IF i need, You i'll call.
You you know. What jess won't like this at. All
When softy, CALLS i usually, answer, hey look behind, you
look behind, you and.

Speaker 3 (01:07:17):
About a two percent R. O i on Calling ian only.

honesty admitting to me a couple of months ago that
both of you were pretty much.

Speaker 2 (01:07:40):
Worthless oh, yeah that's exactly what that was between. Us
that's EXACTLY i think that's what you said About.
