Choose chill me okay, Jesse, all.
Speaker 3 (00:11):
Right, everything's fine. Sorry for that one second of panic.
Speaker 2 (00:15):
Don't worry about it.
Speaker 3 (00:16):
Yeah, you know, sometimes things just disappear out of nowhere.
Speaker 2 (00:19):
Could be worse. Could have been the Seahawks defense yesterday.
Let's start with the good news. Mariners did it. They
even the series. Great pitching duel yesterday. Final score three
two Jorge Polanco two home runs off Trek Scoogl Julio
drove in cal Raleigh for the game winning hit, Luis
Castillo four and two thirds. The Rock gave Spire great honors.
Munio's great game three tomorrow Alds other series Torontola's a
(00:41):
Yankees two nothing. Blue Jays have scored one hundred runs.
The Yankees have scored none. I'm exaggerating, but only slightly.
It's bad. It's pretty bad bad. New York See X
took it on the chin from Baker Mayfield yesterday. Hawks
Bucks took the win on the last minute field goal.
Final score thirty eight thirty five. Uh Baker Mayfield basically
won the MVP yesterday. I believe a Mecca Buka won
(01:04):
the Rookie of the Year yesterday, all against the Seahawks'
third string secondary. Yeah, it was not pretty. Husky's one
on Saturday came from behind to beat Maryland. Sounders beat
Portland one nil on Saturday as well. Krack and just
announced their opening night roster. Berkeley Catton is on the
team to start the season. Let's go one hell of
(01:24):
a weekend in Seattle for Ms McIntyre and mister Benton
specifically out there grinding away in the clubhouse all day,
the two of you doing great work, both you and Michael,
just out there gathering sound, shaking hands and schmoozing in
the clubhouse and talking to Dan Wilson and the whole crew.
Perry Hill ready to come back on the show. I heard,
(01:45):
let's do it.
Speaker 3 (01:46):
He said, hedd every day.
Speaker 2 (01:47):
All right, we'll call him right now. He might he
might be in route to Detroit. So, yeah, what a weekend.
I listen, We're gonna mollywop here in about ten minutes time,
fifteen minutes time with Nate and Chris. We've never had
a Mauli wat Monday after a Mariner home victory in
the playoffs, because it hasn't happened in twenty four years.
We all know that. Let me just start by, as
(02:11):
we would say in the hockey world, a stick tap
all the way around to our sports fans in this city.
And I'm gonna I'm gonna disagree with my friend David
Maler for a moment. Dave and others like, oh, is
it a football town? A baseball town? What kind of town?
We're a great sports town man. I'm just I don't.
I don't think we have to differentiate. I don't even
(02:32):
care who has a bigger parade. If there's a parade,
I don't care if it's a bigger It's all subjective.
It's also subjective what I'm gonna say, But I believe
it to be true. This is an incredible sports town.
We've just been starving for success for so long now.
First and foremost, the passion for the Seahawks is second
(02:54):
to none in this town. I will definitively say that.
I'm not saying it was a Seahawk city or Mariner city,
or a Husky city, cracking whatever we want to say.
But there is passion for the Seahawks. City I think
is unrivaled, and part of it's just the NFL is
a bigger it's a bigger beast than anything else in sports.
These television numbers and things like that tell you that
(03:16):
there is nothing in this country, nothing in this country,
like the NFL. But let's just say that ninety percent
of Mariner fans are also Seahawks fans and vice versa.
The difference is is we've been starving, just starving for
baseball success for a long time. Just to had a
(03:40):
little appetizer three years ago, an eighteen inning game. I mean,
just think about this when they when Julio popped the
one out of the ballpark on Saturday, it's the first
run we've scored at home. We they have scored at
home in twenty four years in a playoff game, like
you're starving for anything. Disappointment on Saturday, for sure, to
(04:04):
lose a game against a bullpen start really disappointing. But
all the pressure and all the pressure was on Seattle yesterday.
And one guy came through, Jorge Polanco, another guy came
through late, two guys cal double, Julio single or Julio double. Sorry,
but I'm gonna go back to the fans having grown
(04:25):
up in this city and suffering through a lot of
bad sports, like really bad and whether and honestly bad venues.
The Kingdome, God bless you, rest in peace. It was
our dump. But it was a dump. Cement cement ceiling.
It just tight seats. It just wasn't I mean, we
(04:46):
had that. The Seattle Center Coliseum was a converted exhibition hall,
key arena. Was the biggest joke this city has ever
had until the last few years, like we haven't had
a lot to be excited about or really be proud of.
But the NFL team won a Super Bowl and this
place has never ever calmed down since. And then obviously
(05:09):
the baseball team has had such a little success to
just give us something. And boy do we see it
last night in the streets after the game. Obviously in
the ballpark, we were all there. It was awesome. Incredible atmosphere,
phenomenal atmosphere. Everyone's standing on every second pitch, second two
strike pitch pitch. People. Stay, my kid was there right
in front, right behind soft You have to as softy
about this later.
Speaker 4 (05:30):
That's awesome.
Speaker 2 (05:30):
He got those seats by the way, yeah he knows
people apparently. Meanwhile, you and I were sitting in the air.
I was sitting in the heat of here cafe behind
the glass. But it was cool. I love being there.
It was awesome. He side note, I have to ask
Softy about the fact there's a guy, old guy sitting
next to Keifer and his buddy Cody that had a
Pittsburgh Pirate's head on and he was getting mad at
everybody was standing up around him. Dude, you need not
(05:52):
to come back like Pittsburgh Pirate fan that's getting mad
because people are standing in the during the game. Don't ever, ever, ever,
ever come back to tea mobile park.
Speaker 5 (06:01):
What that's like.
Speaker 3 (06:02):
A London NFL game where you just wear a random jersey?
Speaker 2 (06:05):
I know, like, what are you doing? What are you
doing here? Anyway? The atmosphere last night was crazy, just crazy.
So football town, baseball town, Seahawks Town, Mariners town. I
don't care. I just thought that, man, we are are
fan based. Last night when they walked out of that
ballpark and all around the city. If you were at
(06:27):
home watching the game, it felt like this big cyber relief.
You let off some steam. Maybe now the team like
you as a fan base, can we can relax and
take care of what should be business, and that's going
deep into this postseason. They've split the first two games,
and they've done so remarkably, have done so with just
(06:53):
zero offense. The lineup has been not good except for
your superstars Julio and Cal with a little Jorge Polanco
chipping in yesterday doing something that was that is unheard of,
and that's two solo shots in the same game. Off
for the best picture in baseball. But what we saw
(07:14):
last night, to me was just awesome. Off the charts,
cool atmosphere and like Jess, you've been here a long
time and you know, we've been working together for a
few years. So we've seen together All Star Week, you know,
All Star Week in Seattle for baseball, really cool, fun, festive, big,
big event. We saw the outdoor hockey game, really cool,
(07:34):
big event. But those were exhibitions, yes, well the hockey
game wasn't but for all intents and purposes, it kind
of what it was. Yes last night was special. I'll
go back to the Seahawks. I had not I kind
of took a year sabbatical from going to games in person,
and I'd say that. I'm not trying to be aloof
or anything, but having done it for so long with
(07:55):
the cracking job, I just I didn't get to the
press box. I didn't get to the stadium. Last year
kind of enjoyed my Sundays at home. I said, well,
yesterday was a day I could double dip. I could
do Seahawks and Mariners. Perfect. We're blessed enough in our
business to have press passes, and so I did. I
took advantage of it yesterday. I'm the Seahawk crowd was
(08:16):
off the charts. As someone who's been to a lot
of games, I thought the Seahawk crowd was off the charts.
Didn't help the defense. They were awful. Mike McDonald took
all responsibility after the game for it. But the Seahawks
crowd was crazy. It's Tampa. They're not going to travel
like others. So we didn't have the normal complaints on
(08:39):
a Monday of oh my god, look at all the
fans here from Tampa. That doesn't happen with the Bucks.
It wasn't San Francisco or Green Bay or Pittsburgh or
something like that. But you know, I mentioned my kid,
he and his buddy they came down. I drove him
down there and they just hung out at the Hall
and stuff, the Accental Hall, and were there for the game.
They were looking and trying to get tickets on the
(08:59):
Sect and near Mark because the game sold out obviously,
the getting price was still like well over one hundred dollars,
so they stayed outside and watch, which is also a
tribute to our fan base. I think there's a lot also,
I think a ton of people double dipped yesterday because
I stuck around a lot. Yeah, I stuck around for
the postgame news conferences for the Seahawks, So I it
was a half hour after the Seahawk game left was
(09:20):
over that I actually started to make my way over
to the ballpark and it was insane. The lines to
get into T mobile were crazy long, and I'm looking
around like it felt like everyone or a good chunk
of people left the Seahawks game and went to the
Mariner game.
Speaker 5 (09:36):
They just walked over.
Speaker 2 (09:37):
Yeah, well, good for you. It was awesome in that regard.
But I just just a tip of the cap. We
have great sports fans in this town. I don't want
to hear otherwise, And the criticism for our fan bases
sometimes can come not because the fan bases aren't good
or passionate, it's because the teams haven't given them enough
to cheer about over the last fifty years. And I'm
not just talking about the Mariners. Seahawks have e their
(09:57):
downs too, but the Seahws for the most part, have
been up, especially since you're not got there. You know,
the Sonics had a lot of success over their years.
The team didn't leave here because of the fans. They
left here because of politics and a building. That's why
they left and ownership. We have good sports fans here.
We have great sports fans here, and I just want
to just to kind of makes what we do for
a living kind of cool thinking. You know what, There's
(10:19):
there's a lot of people out there, and not all
sixty eight thousand at Lumen and not all forty seven
thousand at Safe Tea Mo will listen to us by
any means. We all understand that, but I know a
lot of you do. And if you were there last night,
kudos to you, because at both those stadiums, it was awesome.
It was fun. And the Maryor's get a huge win,
which we're gonna talk about with the mallywop guys, and
we again haven't never done this before, a malliwap Monday
(10:40):
after a Mariner home playoff win. I'm not sure how
they're going to handle it, especially Nathan Oh, he's gonna weep.
But I'm gonna enjoy it, every second of it. A
lot of it. Up date Joe she And at two
o'clock today a little after two hardcore football with Hugh
Milling normally on a Monday, and I think we're going
to push that to Tuesday because I had a list
(11:01):
that was like three pages long of stuff watching the
game yesterday to get to you with probably surprisingly more
on a couple of things on the offense. It will
surprise you. The mill Roll play, which is just a
head scratcher, a bad day for the coach, just bad day,
like Milroe decision like why you're moving the ball seven
of eight Dartle was at the time, what are you
doing the play at the end, the interception. We'll get
(11:24):
to that. Than everything on defense, which is really tough
to watch yesterday, and we'll probably do hardcore football tomorrow
as well. So just a zillion things going on, but
you know what, that's what you do when you have
a great sports market. It's a big town. You have
a lot of things to talk about, no shortage of topics.
We're gonna do that all today, mollywop.
Speaker 1 (11:42):
Next it's Monday, then that means one thing. It's time
to maliwah uncensored, unscripted and filled with the passion that
all Marin his fans can relate to, and brought to
you by the company that's all about Seattle Sports, Simply Seattle.
(12:07):
Visit simply Seattle dot com for the best Mariners gear.
Now with the Moulliwatt boys, Nathan Bishop with the light
bet and Chris Crawford with my oh, why here's Ian Fernettes.
Speaker 2 (12:20):
Well, we've never done this before. I don't really know
how to handle it, to be honest with you, it's
just a whole different vibe. So I think on days
like today it's important to discuss what we do and
Molliwattmunday began twenty twenty one, Is that right? Fellas twenty
(12:41):
twenty one, Spring of twenty twenty one, Thanks to our
friend Kevin Mather.
Speaker 4 (12:45):
Thanks Kevin, and we.
Speaker 2 (12:48):
Just on a whim recommendation. We needed some guys on
to react to Mather deciding that he was going to
go after and take shots at some guy named Julio
Rodriguez with that point had not even had a bat
at bat in the major leagues. And Ryan Divish and
somebody else wasn't just div But if somebody else said, hey,
(13:09):
this guy's good, this guy's good, they probably have some opinions.
Throw them on. So we put these two guys, Chris
Crawford and Nathan Bishop on the air. Kevin Shocky was
a producer at the time, and we talked about like
what are we doing here as a front office? Like
where are we? And that was a low point. If
for being honest, that was a low point. Show one
was a low point. Number one show was a low point.
This might be the high point because the Mariners are
(13:31):
in the Alds. They are tied one game apiece with
the Detroit Tigers, and they just had their first home
playoff win. I learned this last night listening to the
Miners postcast with Chris Crawford Anderson Hurst. They just had
their first home playoff win in twenty four years. Saturday night,
(13:53):
they scored their first playoff run in twenty four years.
And Boyle boy Let's go full circle. Why is that
because the best offensive player of the first two games
Julio Rodriguez, Kevin Mather, Julio Rodriguez. Here we are four
years later, four and a half years later, it does
(14:14):
come full circle. Julio Rodriguez is a pretty good baseball player,
and probably more so than anybody. And we could all
kind of do our heroes and unsung heroes and three stars.
Huio Rodriguez has been the difference so far in this series.
How awesome is that? With that being said, that's my
(14:36):
opening statement. Nathan Bishop fire Away.
Speaker 6 (14:40):
Oh, you guys, I'm not built for this. But it
was after game one inning, the first inning of the
first game, I just took this deep breath and I
was like, oh my god, I can't believe that I've
got to get through eight more innings of this. And
then it's like the thing that I had forgotten because
you know, as you mentioned, it's been a minute since
we've done all of this, is trying to keep the
(15:03):
emotions in the bank for the next day because I'm
used to football playoffs, you know, where it's like you
have the game and we all go crazy and we
get exhausted and then we kind of take a deep breath,
and we have the week to recover. But no, there
was another game yesterday right after the first game. I'm
not ready to do this for and I'm not ready
(15:23):
to do this, and I also hope that it never
ever ends. I was lucky enough to be at that
game last night. I got to take my son, and man,
I got to tell you, just absolutely one of the
coolest experiences I have ever personally had as a sports
fan was being at that game last night to share
that experience. And it was absolutely the kind of way
(15:44):
that the Mariners would break through because the way the
Mariners have done this traditionally is they've got to make
it as hard as they possibly can. So of course
they didn't just go out there and boil them out.
And of course they were facing Tarik' schoo well, the
very best pitcher alive. But man, just an absolutely incredible
experience just a few feet here and there from absolute disaster.
(16:07):
Being down zero to two in this series going to
Detroit would have been so deflating. I would have only
had my dear sweet Washington Huskies from this past weekend
to kling too to keep me on life support after
just an incredible sports weekend in Seattle.
Speaker 4 (16:21):
But man, the number one.
Speaker 6 (16:23):
Takeaway I have is that I had forgotten what playoff
baseball felt like. I knew what it was like intellectually,
and I've watched a lot of exciting playoff games over
the years, but I forgot what it was like to
live and die with every pitch like this, And it
is everything that I thought I remembered it being and
a lot more.
Speaker 4 (16:42):
It's just an incredible experience.
Speaker 6 (16:43):
So just I'm still buzzing just talking about it gives
me goosebumps.
Speaker 4 (16:48):
It was an awesome experience yesterday.
Speaker 2 (16:50):
I mean at that stadium, Chris, you had the opportunity
after a loss and then after a win on the
Manor's postcast with Andrews to kind of you had the
highs and the low this weekend. Here we are on Monday,
your opening thoughts.
Speaker 7 (17:03):
You know, And it's it's the same thing that the
highs and the lows are the same trepidation that you have.
Like I'm glad Nathan said it, because I'm not built
for this either, Like this is so hard baseball. Playoff
baseball is so different than anything else. And I know
playoff hockey is crazy, but playoff hockey, at least there's
something constantly happening where your mind is still crazy.
Speaker 4 (17:25):
But you know you can't think.
Speaker 7 (17:27):
But if you're someone like me who has an inner
monologue and is always nervous about stuff like that, oh,
playoff baseball is just the worst. It's just the absolute worst.
It's also the absolute best.
Speaker 8 (17:38):
Uh.
Speaker 7 (17:39):
By the way, I apologize for missing last week's show.
I'm so sorry, guys. I told them it was because
my phone was dead. It was actually I was hammering
ole miss minus thirty two point five this week.
Speaker 4 (17:48):
Sorry, we do OK.
Speaker 2 (17:53):
There he is, Tippy Waiter, There we are.
Speaker 7 (17:57):
I'm Craig Elow this week you should you should appreciate
at that religion, Craig e though, you know what my
favorite part about this weekend was, other than you know,
they should be up to a Let's just be honest.
Speaker 4 (18:09):
They should be up to well right now.
Speaker 7 (18:11):
If you play a better baseball game on Saturday, you're
up to when you're feeling a heck of a lot better.
Speaker 4 (18:17):
But the reason why.
Speaker 7 (18:19):
You're tied in this series are three guys that won
that everyone seems to have a strong opinion about, and
a lot of them towards the negative in Julio Rodriguez,
a guy everyone wanted to trade in Luis Castillo and
a guy everyone.
Speaker 4 (18:35):
Was furious they brought back in JORGEE. Polanco.
Speaker 7 (18:39):
That's the reason why. That's the reason why. And that's awesome,
that's really really cool. And I don't blame anyone for
their opinions on wanting to not have Hoe Polanco to
begin the year because he was terrible last year. He
was ten pounds of crap in a five pound bag.
Anders if you're listening, I gave you one. He wasn't
(19:00):
this year, and he was so fantastic against the best
pitcher in the American League. Man, though I can't help
but think you play a better baseball game, you're up
to zero. I can't help but think about that either.
But how different it is to win Sunday compared to
if they win Saturday and lose Sunday. The difference that
(19:22):
you feel there, right, the difference that you feel. But no,
you've beaten the best picture three times this year and
there's a very good chance you're going to have to
beat him a fourth. This is awesome, But also I
am just going to be an absolute wreck for the
rest of this week, so please just win Tuesday and
Wednesday so we can bring on the Blue Jays.
Speaker 2 (19:40):
Well, I think it's Chris Crawford, Nathan Bishop. It's a
Maliwat Monday, brought to you by our good friends. It's
Simply Seattle, Simply Sattle. Come by the way, I saw
all kinds of Simply Seattle slash KJR little plackers out
there all over the place at the stadium, in stadium
outside of the stay and really cool deal. Let's go
win this thing. Curtsey of Cal also on a T shirt.
You can buy that simply Sail dot com mo. We
(20:01):
want fifteen to check out for that T shirt. There's
a lot of different storylines to get to. I definitely
want to get to Dan Wilson Saturday night. I definitely
want to get to the starting pitching as a whole
used to the bullpen. Let's just go Chris, go back
to jump on the Polanko thing for a second. Yeah,
Like they signed him with great fanfare two years ago.
He comes in, he's hurt all year, he just was.
(20:23):
He was awful. They let him walk. No one batter
an I. But at the same time, for a long
time there was like, okay, no replacement for him, like
what they could do? And then they bring him back
on a relative a very team friendly I guess in
today's baseball contract, right, no one's excited. As the year
goes on and on and on, we kind of see
the real ho heey Polonko. But for him to hit
(20:44):
what was it to Treek's two Terrek school Scooba sliders
out of the ballpark, which has not happened ever in
one game, It's only happened twenty times ever, or whatever
the hell it is, like, kudos to that guy. Kind
of cool little bounce back story, redemption story for Jrae Polanco,
And I think he's one of those guys you can
make an argument with. If he wasn't on the roster
(21:06):
this year, we wouldn't even talking baseball right now.
Speaker 4 (21:09):
Oh no, absolutely not.
Speaker 7 (21:10):
He has been, outside of one bad month, the second
best hitter on the Seattle Mariners. And the only reason
we're saying second is because the guy who should win
MVT was that good this year.
Speaker 4 (21:23):
He was phenomenal.
Speaker 7 (21:25):
And the crazy thing I keep thinking about, too, is
he hits both those homers from the right side, and
I keep thinking back to the fact that there was
a time when this guy literally couldn't swing the bat
from the right side for a large portion of this
year because of the hip injury.
Speaker 4 (21:40):
But he's been so.
Speaker 7 (21:41):
Fantastic against left handed pitching this year. It's just a
really cool story. It's awesome to see redemption and awesome
to see him play at the level that he's played
out before. You know, this is one of his better seasons,
to be sure, But this is a guy who's had
ops is above eight hundred. He's a guy who has
put up seasons where he's hit thirty three homers. The
(22:04):
twenty six homers he hits this year, second career, second
in his career in terms of high but like, it's
just awesome to see that type of redemption story. And
I think you have to give a ton of credit
to the Mariners. The other thing is, and we talked
about this on the postcast, the two teams that were
rumored to sign Jorge Polanco all winter long, where the
(22:26):
Houston Astros and the New York Yankees, And ultimately, because
of the Kyle Tucker trade and getting Esac Paradis, the
Houston Astros will lose interest.
Speaker 4 (22:36):
And I don't really remember what happened with the Yankees.
Speaker 7 (22:38):
But thank god, thank god those teams don't bring him
in because the Seattle Mariners are in a world of
hurt without Jorge Poloco and seeing him be the hero, well,
there was another hero too, but seeing him be one
of the heroes Sunday night was pretty damn.
Speaker 2 (22:55):
Let's go down that road the other hero, Nathan, I'll
bring We'll get to you first on that. Julio Rodriguez.
You've been very outspoken in your praise and your support
of him others, as you said, and Chris brought this up. Yeah,
he's the guy that for some reason people whatever the
lightning listen. I understand the reason, probably as much as anything.
(23:15):
It's our slow starts. Like he just is, Like he
shows up June first, or sometime mid June or early July.
That's when he shows up every year to play Major
League Baseball if he ever decided he wanted to play
an entire season, like at even an average level. Right,
just like average level. Maybe people up numbers that are
unheard of for this organization and in football. But Nathan,
(23:38):
to see Julio Rodriguez, I know where you guys were
sitting you and your son yesterday when he laced that
one down the left field line, what was it?
Speaker 6 (23:46):
Like, I mean, we were on we were right down
the right field line, so it was happening on the
other side of the stadium from where we were, and
he hit it and because of where we were sitting,
you couldn't tell if it was fair. So like you
have everybody on the other side of the stadium instantly
going nuts, where everybody on our side of the stadium
is inhaling and holding their breath, just glaring at that
(24:08):
third base umpire and looking for the fair sign. And
as soon as he did that, it was just an explosion.
And it's the timing was so important too, because you
know this happens right when it's just like, oh, bleep,
the Mariner's just Mariner, Like Matt Brash comes in, doesn't
have good command, Josh Naylor boots a ball, they give
(24:29):
up this late. They had worked, so they had a
two nothing lead over the best pitcher in baseball in
the playoffs, and they kicked it away. And that's being
a Mariners fan is always having that in the back
of your head, and then when that happens, you're like,
that's it.
Speaker 4 (24:41):
That's the Mariners.
Speaker 6 (24:42):
We've all been living in a simulation for the last month,
but now they're back and they're gonna screw this up
and they're gonna lose. And so for the two best
players on this team to immediately respond with doubles, which
the cow one came right towards us, was so affirming
and reminded me of how I felt for the past
three and four weeks, which is that I'm not afraid
with this team anymore.
Speaker 4 (25:03):
They don't do the Mariner thing anymore.
Speaker 6 (25:06):
The Dragons are being slayed day in and day out
with this organization, and you're right in for Julio to
be the guy to carry that vanguard, and for him
to show out in these first two games. I don't
have a postgame show where I can just talk to
everybody after every single game because I'm not a big deal.
But after that game one, that home run that he
(25:27):
hit was so special. That was a great pitch that
he hit out. That was a fastball writing in on
the hands right underneath his hands. It was high enough
that at worst it should have gotten poor contact out
of Julio, and maybe he bleeds a single to hit
that ball out. To right center field. There's just you know,
(25:48):
there's maybe ten players in baseball that can put that
swing on that particular pitch. That was such special stuff
and the thing that I can't get over with Julio.
And this is what drove drives me crazy when people
nobody authentically dislikes Julio Rodriguez, Nobody authentically thinks that he's bad.
If you're doing that, it's because you're trying to create
(26:11):
a narrative and you're trying to build something that's not real.
Speaker 4 (26:15):
There.
Speaker 6 (26:15):
You can't watch this guy play baseball day in and
day out and talk about sports, or work in sports,
or think about sports for a living and come away
with any other conclusion that not only is this guy
a fabulous baseball player. Slow starts included, because what's not
starting slow is that defense in center field right. He
loves it here.
Speaker 4 (26:36):
I don't know why.
Speaker 6 (26:37):
It doesn't make any sense to me, but he loves
being a Seattle Mariner, earnestly loves being here. I don't
understand how you could not it just you have to
be so cynical and so dead inside. And as a cynical,
dead inside person, even I can't get to that with
Julio Rodriguez. He is so deserving of the shine that
(27:01):
he's gotten the last two games, like this season will
always be the season of Cal Rawley full stop. I
hope he wins the American League MVP. But if this
playoffs wants to be the Playoffs of Julio Rodriguez and
start building his own legend, which in my opinion is
already well crafted, man, that'd just be a really exciting
well Chris.
Speaker 2 (27:21):
On Friday, we did a round table with all the hosts,
and one of the things I said about this year,
what I was, obviously you want the team to win.
My biggest hope going into the playoffs this year is
that the rest of the country would see Julio Rodriguez. Yeah,
the smile, the enthusiasm, the elite defensive play in center field,
(27:44):
and then the ability what Nathan said, to hit a
pitch out that five or ten people maybe Max can
do in the world, and to do special things. And
then what I really hope, Chris is I'm hoping, like God,
Julio come through in a big situation, like shut people
up once and for all, but come through in a
big situation and then get to first second or base
(28:07):
or a home run of the time and show that
million dollar smile, that electric personality, that enthusiasm dream come true.
He did that last night, Yeah, he sure did.
Speaker 7 (28:17):
And we talked about this again on the postcast that
the it's infectious because like it wasn't just when he
gets to second base on that double, which was another
piece of terrific piece of hitting, lining that ball over
the over the third basement's head.
Speaker 4 (28:33):
That the fist pump.
Speaker 7 (28:35):
That's not a fist pump because I did something that's
a fist pump because I'm so happy for the people
around me. I'm so happy for my team. Look at
how pumped up that guy was. But the the infectious
smile thing, watch ju Leohanda tried into Polanco the second time.
There is a smile that is from like on this
(28:56):
on our post our stream thing. It's from here to
hear it's it's a gushing smile. This guy cares so
much and wants to win so freaking badly that when
I see no one's above criticism.
Speaker 4 (29:10):
Every player can be criticized.
Speaker 7 (29:12):
I can criticize Jan Soda for his defense, I can
criticize show Heyo Tani.
Speaker 4 (29:16):
I'm sure I can think of something, can't. It's every player.
Speaker 7 (29:19):
Can be criticized, right, but it goes beyond the pale.
With Julio Rodriguez. It gets ridiculous sometimes when all that
guy is doing is helping you win baseball games and
wanting to win as much as any Seattle Mariner I
can ever remember seeing him come up huge, It's easy
(29:40):
to forget that line drive, opposite field hit that ties
that game on Saturday too. Like without Julio Rodriguez, the
Seattle Mariners are well, you know what, and far from home.
And I want people to start appreciating just how good
of a freaking baseball player he is. And maybe this
is what it's gonna do. Maybe this postseason it was
(30:01):
put it over the edge.
Speaker 2 (30:02):
Yeah, I think people here, if they haven't yet, they have,
but I think nationwide. I just it's it's, you know,
baseball needs stars, they need young stars, They need guys
that you can they can, they can get people excited
about the sport, and he has that opportunity in this
postseason to do that. I just I think back to
when was it last Wednesday? Yeah, last Wednesday, the last
(30:22):
cracking preseason game, and the Mariners had a couple of sweets.
I think, a cracking game, a couple of sweets, and
the most of the team was there. And then second
oar mission, we look down. There's you know, the zamboni's
are going around. There's a guy on zamboni with his
camera and waving to it's who on the place was
going bananas like and and he just probably has no
idea what a zamboni is. And yet the guy looked
like he was having more fun than anybody in the rink.
(30:43):
Like it was just just childlike, but in a good way.
I'm not saying immature, just he just has that around
him and it's it's fun. All right, come back, let's
do this. Let's preview the next couple of games. We'll
talk about pitching decisions, rotations and what they have and
what you guys think of that. And we're all trying
to arms around this home playoff win. Happened, guys, believe
(31:03):
it or not, it happened yesterday. We'll talk more. It

Let's go win this thing. Courtesy is simply Seattle Joe.
She's going to join us at two o'clock. Chris Joe
wrote a story about how Dan Wilson learned his lesson.
Did Dan Wilson learn a lesson?
Speaker 4 (32:38):
I hope, so, I really hope.
Speaker 8 (32:40):
So.
Speaker 7 (32:41):
I was just talking to Nathan off the air about
this that when Wilson did not bring in Fergus Interspire
to pitch to Kerry Carpenter to end the fifth thing,
I thought nothing of it, nothing of it whatsoever? I mean,
you start is pitching? Well, yeah, he's facing him for
the third time. But I just did think anything of
it when I saw a reliever take over for George
(33:04):
Kirby in the next inning. I don't know if I've
ever yelled as loud as and I've yelled, folks. There
are remotes that are broken in this house from having
Mariner fits. He got punked Saturday. He absolutely got punked
Saturday by aj Hinch.
Speaker 4 (33:22):
He was a good manager.
Speaker 7 (33:23):
Good I know, people have their thoughts and they're deserve it,
and he didn't get punished enough. But he's a good manager.
I like the way he managed Sunday's game a heck
of a lot better, and I.
Speaker 4 (33:35):
Think he he's growing.
Speaker 7 (33:37):
And that's the thing about having a manager who is
essentially in his first year, right He's growing, he's learning,
he's adapting. It sucks that a mistake that he made
on Saturday cost him very dearly, because the tactical mistakes
you make in the postseason, and this is a super
obvious point, matters so much more than they do in
(33:57):
the regular season. But it's good that he learned from
that mistake. It's good that he went to the reliever
in the perfect situation there by the way, shout out
to Luis Castillo. He pitched really, really well and held
it together even when he didn't have his best command.
Shutting out a lineup is an impressive thing to do.
But I'm hoping Dan Wilson learned from that mistake for sure.
Speaker 2 (34:19):
Nathan, did you like the rotation going with Kirby and
then the Rock followed by Logan Gilbert Tomorrow in Game three?
Speaker 1 (34:30):
No?
Speaker 4 (34:31):
Not really, But.
Speaker 6 (34:33):
You know, I think when you deal with the Mariner's
rotation that is as deep as it typically is, this
not necessarily that you're making an obvious bad choice. As
opposed to a good choice, it's just not what I
would consider to be the best choice. I think that
Logan Gilbert is one of the Marina's two best healthy
starting pitchers, and I would have thrown him in game
one or Game two. But to Chris's point, it looked
like it was going to be really bad for Luis
(34:55):
in Game two. I was looking at that game and
his pitch count I think was at fifty one, and
then he went out there and got a nine pitch
inning in the third inning and locked in and gave
this team exactly what they needed four and two thirds
scoreless innings. And Chris's point, Dan Wilson could well and
two it was really helpful for baseball to recreate the
(35:16):
exact same circumstances for Dan. It was like it was
like Fate was just taking a hammer and batching him
over the head and saying, look, learn this lesson, which
he did, which was great. But no, I think that
I think I would have put Logan a game two.
But the way that it worked out, you guys, is
working out great because Chris and I, again talking off
air over the break, this game three is so big,
(35:40):
and Logan Gilbert can absolutely tear through this lineup if
he has his good stuff. So this is a game
that will heavily favor the Mariners in my opinion, and
having Logan Gilbert on the hill is a huge part
of the reason.
Speaker 2 (35:52):
Why Gilbert and Gilbert goes against Flaherty tomorrow and then
Mys goes for Detroit Wednesday. We think maybe Bryce Miller, right,
so we'll be the starter in that game. We know
Wu won't be because he's not on the list, right, Chris,
So what do we know about Flaherty? What needs to
happen tomorrow?
Speaker 7 (36:08):
Flarerity has had some success in the postseason, and you know,
I do think that matters. It's not like a massive
sample size, but he's had some success. But he's a
guy who can give up the long ball. He's a
guy who can leave pitches over the middle of the plate,
and the marriage should be able to take advantage of it.
They've had some success against Flaherty in the past as well.
It's neither of these are scary, like Casey myis going
(36:29):
for them in Game four. It would have been a
little scary post All Star Break or excuse me, pre
All Star break. Casey weis because he was a literal
All Star. It's not been the same pitcher, and the
Tigers have very little trust in him right now. He
only went three and a third innings or three and
two thirds innings, excuse me, in the wild card round there.
Neither of these guys should scare you. The scariest thing
(36:50):
to me is Bryce Miller, because assuming that's a traditional
start for Bryce Miller, Miller's just not the same pitcher
as he was last year, and it's not because of
anything but injury entirely.
Speaker 4 (37:00):
It's due to injury.
Speaker 7 (37:02):
He was one of the very best starters in Major
League Baseball in the second half of last year.
Speaker 4 (37:07):
That's the scariest part to me.
Speaker 7 (37:08):
And I think you've got to have Kirby ready to go,
especially if god forbid, they lose Game three. You've got
to have all hands on deck for Game four. It
cannot be something where you see how Bryce Miller feels.
It cannot be You have to have everybody ready to
go for Game four in that situation. Hopefully they win
Game three and Miller gives you five innings of two
(37:29):
run baseball, even four innings of two run baseball, something
along those lines, and you can take care of business.
But that's the scariest thing to me is I have
no idea what Bryce Miller's gonna give me at the best,
and at the worst, I have a pretty good idea
what Bryce Miller's gonna give me, and it's not good enough.
Speaker 6 (37:48):
I know we were just talking about pitching, and I
don't like making big predictions or anything, but just the
way I'm feeling going into this, I think this offense
is gonna break out in the next two games. I
think that we're gonna see plus runs and at least
one of these games and full and at least four
in the other one. I just think that the way
that this lineup can lean on any pitching that's not excellent.
(38:09):
I know we didn't see it in Game one, that
was kind of a weird off day for them, where
everybody besides col Calin Julio went hitless, But it looked
a lot better yesterday against Schoogle, and I just think
they're going to lean on a couple guys who just
aren't that great of starting pitchers.
Speaker 2 (38:23):
Where can we find your work, Dathan?
Speaker 6 (38:26):
You can check out my work at the lightbat dot

Speaker 2 (38:59):
Really cool. I listened last night when I got home.

great breakdown everything you guys do. Great job. Are we

we do have games tonight in the National League, Dodgers
leading the Phillies one game to none, that game at
three o'clock Pacific time, then nine or sorry, six o'clock
Pacific time Cubs and Brewers, and Milwaukee leads that series
(40:18):
one game to none. In the NLDS, Seahawks losing yesterday
latefield goal after turnover by Sam Donald Seahawk defense so
was a story. They were not good. They got lit
up by Baker Mayfield. Seahawks offense was really good JSN

threw for four touchdowns but one interception along the way.
Let's get to it, Joshi and standing by.

flip flopping Hugh and Josh and so Joshian joins us
(41:28):

are in the heart of the ALDS American League Divisional Series.
Same with the NLDS as well. Hello, Joe, how are
you talking?
Speaker 8 (41:39):
Mariners playoff baseball? How exciting is this?
Speaker 2 (41:41):
October sixth? My friend, this is a record, the latest
we've ever had Joe Sheen on the show October sixth,
two thousand and twenty five. And it's a glorious thing,
my friend, it really is. Uh hey, you know what
I'm gonna I'm gonna table the Mariners for just a heartbeat,
just for a second, because we just finished with the
Armali up guys, with Chris and Nathan. I'm going to
(42:01):
get right back to them, because you know you wrote
about Dan Wilson. Let me just ask you this. I
believe as we're speaking, you might be somewhere in the
Big Apple. Is that correct?
Speaker 8 (42:13):
Yeah? Yeah, I lived just outside the city.
Speaker 2 (42:16):
How are things going there after what happened?
Speaker 8 (42:18):
I think I think if Aaron Boone were to lose
the World Series four to three, because Aliens came down
and a home run for the other team, there would
be people just looking at the fire, Aaron Boone. So
the fact that they got obliterated in two games where
there were no managerial business to make is not helping
him at all. I look at a team that had
(42:40):
tied for the best record in baseball should be tacked
for the best record in the al this year, you
lost the division on of tie breaker and then went
out at two horrible games. But you know, you look
at who played poorly in those games. Max Freed got blasted,
Aaron Judge. Yeah, in the in the on the stat sheet,
it's four for seven with some walks, but you actually
looked at it and he was He had the big
(43:01):
at fat in Game one where he struck out on
a three to two pitch from Kevin Galistman with the
basis loaded. That was nowhere near it. I don't know
how you pin these things on iron booth.
Speaker 2 (43:09):
Is that series? Is it over? I mean, I know,
statistically two all short series? Yes? Is the answer? Is
there a way the Yankees can bounce back? Are we
destined to see Toronto in the ALCS?
Speaker 8 (43:20):
No? I mean, I mean he did. This was eight
years ago against the Guardians than the Indians. They came
fell down to oh to one. It's not impossible. I
want to say the historically, something will take twelve percent
chance if you fall behind two to zero and the
best of five. So yeah, it doesn't look good. They've
got the better pitching matchup tonight with Radne against Shane Bieber.
It was only made seven starts obviously was acquired from
(43:42):
the Guardians after a long career with them. I do
think the advantage goes to the eightist tonight and then
you win tonight. Now it's two to one series. We'll
see what the Guardian, what the James do here? Gusman
only threw I want to say, seventy pitches on Saturday,
and of course we start Trey. Yesivage looks so great yesterday.
You wonder if they won't bring those guys back for
games four, games five. So we'll see what happens to
limber the Guardians. Jays left Jusie Barius has heard ex
(44:08):
Suerzer and shape and to the Chris Backs that were
left off the off the roster. That's seventy starts for
them this year that are available. So whether it's a
Bolton game or Gasman on short rest in Game four,
Yakes might have an advantage there as well, bringing back
Cam Schunder who was so good last week. I don't
think this series is over, but obviously you know the
(44:28):
Jays are the position he's like to be in.
Speaker 2 (44:30):
Well, well, that series eleven runs on Saturday, the ten
to one Blue Jays win, and then the twenty runs yesterday.
You know what thirty or twenty plus runs combined in
these two games. Meanwhile, Seattle and Detroit have played two
three to two games, both teams splitting. We'll get to
(44:51):
Dan Wilson's managerial decisions, but games one and two a
split for Detroit. I would think Detroit feels okay about that,
even though Schooble lost a game, probably hope to get
a two zero lead, but going back home one to one, Seattle,
Salvage's one get to win over Schooble, even though he
wasn't in the decision. Overall assessment of what you saw
in those first two.
Speaker 8 (45:11):
I think the expectation with schoobl pitching one of the
games was one to one. Of course, the Tigers and
you steal game one, you really would like to come
back and go home two. Oh, so the pitching matchups
don't really favor with them. Over the next couple of
days they are home. It's now best the three where
you have the home field advantage. You and I have
been talking all year about the Mariners home road split.
That is really noise and I don't think it's going
(45:32):
to be a big factor here. I still think the
Mariners are considerably better team. I said Mariners in three.
I don't want to get too deep into the weeds
with the numbers here, but I don't like the chances
of that happening anymore. But I do still think the
Mariners are the driver seat to win the series.
Speaker 2 (45:45):
Yeah, see me think one one, Game three is tomorrow. Yeah,
I think you're right, Joe. I think I'm not the
analytics and numbers guy, but I think you're right. I
don't think they're going to win it in three. I
think it might take four for somebody to win. But
that's you.
Speaker 8 (45:58):
I know you have the stars on the show. Please
check that, check us. Check my back with him.
Speaker 2 (46:03):
It's going at least four, maybe it'll go five, Joe.
Let me the hitting for both teams has been suspect,
and you know, but our guy, Julio Rodriguez came through
over the weekend. A lot of us here are really
excited about that. I said before the playoffs started on
a show we did on Friday with all of us
here at the station, I want the nation to see
this guy. I want the nation to see what he's
(46:25):
all about. I'm so glad he came through. And then
of course yesterday gets the game winning hit. But isn't
this the time of you want to see your superstar shine.
But what'd you see from Juli over the weekend?
Speaker 4 (46:36):
Again?
Speaker 8 (46:36):
Really good contact on the homer, the double one on
Saturday as well. She's did a double law last night
as well. So you know, he looks good. He looked
a little like staying back a little better. I will
say that. You know, I'm with you. Cal Rally got
a lot of the national attention this year, go back
to the All Star break at the home run derby.
But to me, you know, Julio Rodriguez is still the
center of this team and it would be great to
(46:57):
see him get some shine to him have a deep
October run if people get to recognized with you and
I have been saying about what this type of what
this player is for a few years now, so yeah,
hopefully he plays well, he shows out again. He's off
through a great start in the series. Didn't love there
was not that late and I guess was maybe the
ninth of the tenth on Saturday and look that great.
But by and large, you know he's been playing well.
(47:19):
So you take what you get there. I nothing against
the Tigers, and I don't want this to be like,
oh ANTHI Tigers hasn't got Riley Green and they've got
your ex school ball and they've got guys she would
you wouldn't want to You would like to continue to
watching as well. But I do think the Mariners advancing
would give a profile to a lot of guys that
you know, by and large, casual baseball fans haven't seen
very much of. You look at Revenuez, you look at
(47:40):
Logan Gilbert, you look at the back end of that bullpen.
There's a lot of stark star talent on this team.
Speaker 2 (47:45):
Joshian Jonas Joshian dot Com, The Joshian Newsletter. All right,
you wrote about it, let's get to it this. You'll
be stunned to know that on Saturday night a big
topic of conversation amongst baseball fans was, uh, manager Dan
Wilson and just decisions in terms of pitching. You wrote
about it, and we talked about it with our guys
a few minutes ago. Did Dan Wilson learn a lesson?
Speaker 8 (48:07):
I think he did. If you look at the path
through the first two games, the exact same situation turned
up in Game one. In Game two, finally know one
on two outs, fifth inning, pitcher facing the lineup the
third time, Terry Carpenter at the plate. On Saturday, Wilson
let George Kirby pitch two Carpenter. Carpenter hit a two
run home on Sunday, I did it was an additional
(48:30):
runner on base. That was the only difference. Wilson lifted
Castillo for Inspire, Spire retired Carpenter. Now they did eventually
tie the game, but they ended up winning. And I
just like that the decision. Like Kirby faced Carpenter. Carpenter
has one of the largest platoons plits in baseball. He's
an excellent hitter. He's, you know, in that Kyle Schwarber
range of hitter against right handed pitchers, and he gets
(48:52):
left these He's not playable. He's just terrible that. You
don't see a lot of guys with big platoons look
like this anymore. He's one of them. So not turning
him around in Game one gave the Tigers a lot
of equity, and you know it didn't turn out for them.
I mean, you know, it's any hitters, you know, Carpenter
might get a homer every eleven twelve percent of the
(49:13):
time against the rougedy they happened to hit one there.
But from a percentage standpoint, leaving Kirby in and I
understand you don't want to start the bullpen followings in
the fifth inning of Game one, I totally get that,
but Carpenter is a special case where you want to
attack him, and we saw Wilson the next night make
that decision to attack him. I think that's got to
consistently be the play you're going forward. It's tough because
(49:36):
Logan Gilbert's guy. You want to get seven innities. You
want him going through the lineup three times, so it'll
be interesting that third time through Carpenter batting, likely hitting
second again, batting in the fifth, maybe the sixth inning,
and Logan Gilbert, is that going to be a critical
at bat if you're the Marriners. You'd love to be
up for nothing at that point. So if Carpenter hits
(49:57):
a ball to Ford field, it doesn't actually matter. But
this decision could come up again, and it will will certainly
come up against four and five.
Speaker 4 (50:06):
There.
Speaker 2 (50:07):
This is stuff you study that I don't, and that's
why I ask you this question. How much is there
to the third time through the order in today's baseball?
Speaker 8 (50:16):
It's significant. I want to make a point here that
the third time through the order, statistically, the third time
effect has always existed. You go back and you look
at Kofax and Mareschal and guys like that in the sixties,
and they got worse as the game went on. Oftentimes
the split was a fourth time through the order split,
but that was baseball back then. But it's not like
(50:38):
we invented this in the back cave at baseball perspectives
in two thousand and three. This is something that has
always existed. What has changed is that teams have a
lot of relievers now that are going to be better
than that pitch through the third time around. So in
nineteen seventy nine, you might have only been carrying eight
to the eight pitchers total, not eight relievers, and the
(51:00):
guy you were bringing in in the sixth inning wasn't
going to be as good as your starter the third
time eround. That's what's changed. Most teams now have two
or three relievers. Now I'm not talking about your guys
in the ninth beam. I'm talking about guys you might
come in the sixth and seventh who are going to
be better fresh out of the bullpen than your starter
(51:20):
the third time around. This is all about expanded pitching staffs.
That's why it's such a big issue now, just because
teams have the ability to bring in a picture we
would expect to be more effective than the start of
the third time around, and that wasn't the case really
until the twenty first century.
Speaker 2 (51:37):
And it's interesting too, though, because in the case of
Gabe Spire probably could make an argument that he's your
number two reliever, high leverage guy, maybe even over Brash
right now, that's not how he's been used necessarily, But
you I almost think this is why Caleb Ferguson's also
on the roster right like that. That's why that's why
they went and got a Caleb for another lefty for
(51:58):
those splits you're talking about all. So yeah, third time
through fresh Gabe Caleb Fergusoner gave Spire. Maybe it's a
guy on the other side of the plate. Maybe it's
Bizarrero or whoever is better than that hammer that we
all we love this pitching staff, but that's better than
those guys.
Speaker 8 (52:13):
Well you add the two things together, right, it's the
third time factor for the starter. Plus it's the tune advantage,
which is all the more reason why you don't want
Now it's not just Carpenter against the right hander. It's
Carpenter against the right hander that he's seen twice that
has already thrown whatever it is, sixty or seventy pitches.
They pitches a sco and Kirby. It's one of the
first two games. So it's both sized factorials. Say, how
are we going to balance all these decisions, all of
(52:35):
these choices to make the decision you mentioned the second left.
If you think about the course of a game, Carpenter
should really be getting this two at bats against the
right handed starter, and then Ferguson should get one of
the the third time around Spire the fourth or flip
those if you want, and if there's a fifth that's
probably going to be brasher Munios. You're desperately you don't
left the writing with Augres Lullias. He comes in the game,
(52:56):
he's there and pitch the knife to gain the three outs.
So what you want to do is Keith Carpenter from
getting those extra chances against right handed pitchers.
Speaker 2 (53:04):
Joe, it's such a such a small sample size, like
you know, this time of the year, with you know,
with with with you know, two games being played, but
really for Seattle, and I guess you could make me
make that same argument for for for Detroit. But cal
has hits Hu, especially on Saturday. But the big double yesterday, Julio.
Obviously we just talked about Polanco the two soul hole
(53:24):
runs and that's it for Seattle so far. Is that
concerning it all?
Speaker 8 (53:29):
It's two games. I mean, it's concerning in that it
has to change. It doesn't mean any ass and Josh
Naylor are oh for fifteen with a walk.
Speaker 1 (53:37):
Ye.
Speaker 8 (53:38):
Naylor had that terrible at that he hit into the
double play on Saturday night they tied the game and
at first and second nobody out and Naylor just killed
it with the ground ball. Obviously at the Big Air,
I don't want to beat up on Josh Naylor too much.
We all know he's got a lot going on, but
he has not played well for two days as has
had some of the not just he's o't freak with
four strikeouts and it actually looks worse than that. Just
(54:00):
has not hit well at all. That has not looked
good at the play. But yeah, you can't really get
through this, you know, with four with six guys going
four for forty one. I believe that's just I think
it's other than two three four Rally Blanco and Whoe Riguez.
I believe it's four for forty one for everybody else.
Somebody's gonna have to do more than that over these
next couple of games. And remember you're you're facing your face.
(54:22):
Uh yeah, I can't remember started game one.
Speaker 2 (54:25):
Try Melton Melton, yeah, full start basically yeah, yeah.
Speaker 8 (54:28):
Right, let's let's let's not be too hard on the
you're gonna face flower To, You're gonna face mives. These
are mid rotation starters. These guys are considerably more hittable.
Don't have the power that are remotely the stuff that
that schoobl does, don't really even have the raw stuff
that Melton house Melton does, so the task does get
easier going to Detroit for the next two days.
Speaker 2 (54:45):
Uh, real quick, before I let you go, we got
other series going on thoughts on. Chicago and Milwaukee were
only one game into the old both nlds's.
Speaker 8 (54:55):
Yeah, Brewers, best team, best offensive team on balls and
play this year, take out struck to take on home
runs and they do better offensively than any team in baseball,
and they just killed the Cubs. And for the first
inning on Saturday, the Cubs had the best defense in
baseball this year. So this ball and play matchup that
was really intriguing. The Brewers won that going away six
(55:16):
runs in the first six for eight on balls and
play plus Nico Hornerman and error. So that was the
key matchup. The Brews win that first one. The Cubs
China County, which showed to Invinaga night in Theanaga's allowed
twenty home runs since the All Star Break and he's
had allowed more barrels, which is stat cast for really
well hit balls the All Star Break than all but
two pitches pitchers. This is not a good matchup for
(55:37):
the Cubs tonight. They gotta win this one in Philly obviously,
you know, I didn't like the way Drop Thompson managed
that game, but he left Christopher Hernandez, excuse me, Christopher
Sanchez in a little bit too long. The Grique Hernandez
got to him, and then in the seventh thiasca Hernandez
with the big home war off Matt Strom. Should be
a really fun matchup tonight. Stale against the WIZARDA. The
(55:59):
pitching matchups of this series are just unbelievable. Even with
Zach Wheeler out with the blood clot these are two
teams that just keeps show shoving so much stuff at
each other. Should be an interesting game tonight. So I
thought the two NL series were more interesting than the
two ALE series, which isn't to dismissing the others. But
these four teams, if you look at their underlying performance,
were basically equal through the regular season. They're basically a
(56:21):
four way top. So I just I'm fascinated to watch.
Speaker 2 (56:25):
These two games side tay Oscar Hernandez. Sounds familiar, Remember
that guy? I think sounds familiar that guy. Are we
are we talking next Monday or Tuesday about ALCS here
in Seattle? Are we putting a wrap on things?
Speaker 8 (56:40):
I still think they're the better team. Uh you know,
it's in best of three at this point. You know,
you flip a coin, it's fifty two forty eight. Either way.
I think they're the better team. I think that dominant.
The difference in the Bulltons is going to really rear
attach the surprises that the Tigers won the game where
they had to lean on the Bullton and you know,
it's all like Saudia Vartist was bad. They gave up
a walk in a wild that set up a single.
(57:01):
But I do think that's the edge the Barritors have
they're going to be able to lean on. I would
be more surprised if the Tigers won then I would
be if the if the series didn't get back to Seattle.
What I mean by that, I think Mariners in four
is more likely than Tigers to win it all.
Speaker 2 (57:19):
It canna be fun. We're enjoying it here. We hopefully
we'll talk next week about the next series and whether
it be Toronto or New York. Trending towards Toronto. We'll see.
But in the meantime, tell Peo about the Joehian newsletter
Joshian dot Com.

He's just running down Elliott all by himself. I think
Pritchett might have been fifty yards behind him. Anyway, we'll
talk about that with you. Millan extended version coming up
tomorrow on the radio show Fact or Fiction. Thank God, Alabama,
I had a late cover. Oh God, chance your chance
(58:45):
to win a thousand dollars week you prize. Also, we'll
tell you about how you can win tickets for the
home opener for the Kraken on Thursday. That's coming up next.
Speaker 1 (58:58):
From the R and R found Nation Specialist broadcast Studio.
Now back to Ian Furnesz powered by Seattle Closest sports
book Snow call Me Casino and Hotel on Sports Radio
ninety three point three.
Speaker 2 (59:11):
kJ R FM, Factor Fiction in just a couple of
minutes time. Well, some good news and bad news on
the Factor Fiction front for this show coming up in
a minute. It's been a harder predict a year. I'll
just say that across the board. I'll just say good
news and bad news on our show. On our show,
Let's get to a couple of texts. Four nine four five.
(59:34):
One couldn't agree more with Nathan. God marked that one
couldn't agree more with Nathan.
Speaker 3 (59:43):
One for the record books there.
Speaker 2 (59:45):
Yeah, I'm sure entirely too fragile to handle the stress
of a playoff baseball series. My god, last night was exhausting,
in a good way though you went home happy or
you were at home happy, doesn't matter. You mean it
was it was wild, right, it was. It was crazy
twelve six to continue to rip Kevin Mather theme. Julio
also gave a super postgame interview in that language he
(01:00:07):
supposedly can't speak.
Speaker 3 (01:00:08):
Oh gosh, I completely forgot about that.
Speaker 2 (01:00:11):
That was That was a big part of then other stuff.
Speaker 3 (01:00:14):
I just I forgot that part of it because there
was a lot of juice.
Speaker 2 (01:00:18):
You were in there for the post game with him
right last.
Speaker 3 (01:00:20):
Night, Kevin, No, Julio. I was, Yes, Julio was magnificent.
Like he's just he's perfect. He's perfect.
Speaker 2 (01:00:28):
That's it. I mean, we have two baseball players. One
is a superstar and the other one. Julio was on
the verge of that. I think, well he comes in too,
you know.
Speaker 4 (01:00:40):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (01:00:40):
He also did a pregame media session as well and
joked around with the guy from Major League Baseball who's
running the whole press conference and everything because it's a
big deal, and he did, you know, they have got
their data raids up there that are supposed to stay
there because it's supposed to be sponsors.
Speaker 2 (01:00:58):
And he's like, I'm taking the blue one, and he
did it both times. I'd be worried about that, like
how long has that been there?
Speaker 3 (01:01:04):
I think he was just messing with people and having.
Speaker 2 (01:01:06):
Drink it, don't drink it, whatever you do, just having fun.
Speaker 5 (01:01:09):
And I love that.
Speaker 2 (01:01:10):
See three two five three. I worked the Sea Hot game,
then walked across the street went to my first playoff
baseball game. It was epic. Never knew a play baseball
game where you never sit down. The whole stadium was
standing and so loud, and then I brought up the
fact that the guy was there's a guy next to
my son and his buddy right above Softy got a
good thing. He wasn't next to Softy. That wouldn't have gone. Well, yeah,
(01:01:31):
he's for five says go check out the wrong game.
Blankhead page on Instagram that Pirates guy should should have
been posted. Yeah. I don't get it, dude. You're wearing
a Pirate's hat. You're at T Mobile, it's a playoff game,
it's our third home playoff game in twenty four years,
and you're telling people sit down. That's wrong with you.
Speaker 3 (01:01:51):
Who are you and what are you doing at a
baseball game?
Speaker 2 (01:01:56):
I don't know telling people to sit down. Well, let's
just say this. It did work.
Speaker 5 (01:02:02):
Well, there you go.
Speaker 3 (01:02:04):
I'm sorry you said he was saying that to Keefer.
Speaker 2 (01:02:07):
Uh kind of everyone around him.
Speaker 3 (01:02:09):
Okay, because I wouldn't tango with Keith.
Speaker 2 (01:02:12):
No, no, And the thing is he just ignore him.
But he just they kind of looked at him and
the like, yeah, whatever fell out just from.
Speaker 3 (01:02:18):
A size perspective, like not exactly the right thing.
Speaker 2 (01:02:21):
Oh, probably not, probably not. He didn't care. He's a
gentle giant. He's fine.
Speaker 4 (01:02:25):
He's like whatever.
Speaker 2 (01:02:26):
He's throwing peanuts at soft he set. No, I am perfect.
I think it's too far down to that. Okay, let's
see what I had. A couple of the ones. Oh,
the NFL is what it is nationally because of gambling
and fantasy I think most of these would put baseball
playoffs or a football regular season every time. I don't
eve want to argue about that. I will certainly agree
with you on this. The NFL is massive for what
(01:02:52):
the reason just stated. Yeah, fantasy football and gambling are
a huge reason why the NFL is popular. But it's
still popular because whether it's because of those reasons, are
you just like the games?
Speaker 5 (01:03:04):
What have you?
Speaker 2 (01:03:05):
That's fantasy football and game. That's why the NFL finally
embraced it. Yes, it's gets factor factor fiction.
Speaker 5 (01:03:12):
Where's that to go?
Speaker 1 (01:03:12):
Glad you're with us, it's your shot at our weekly
thousand bucks and the ten thousand dollars grand prize. It's
Factor Fiction, probably presented by Lucky Eagle Casino and Hotel
where every Day Feels Lucky. Factor Fiction is on Sports
Radio ninety three point three KJR FM.
Speaker 2 (01:03:34):
Factor Fiction is presented by Lucky Eagle, Casino and Hotel.
Let's see, yeah, I don't think. Yeah, nobody had a
winning week. None of the shows had a winning.
Speaker 3 (01:03:48):
That's what I was getting at when I said it's
a hard to predict a year.
Speaker 2 (01:03:51):
Three of the four shows had a two to three week.
Our show was one and four.
Speaker 3 (01:03:57):
Thanks for the winning and.
Speaker 2 (01:03:58):
I appreciate that. I only snapped the losing streak finally,
and it took a late cover by Alabama on a
touchdown run at the very end of the game. And
don't think for a second I wasn't watching that and
charing on the Tide Roll Tide, that was our only win.
(01:04:18):
Seattle didn't cover versus Tampa obviously, anders I had the
Huskies minus six and a half at Maryland. I was
rooting to be wrong, but not wrong on that end.
If they're not going to cover, then don't then don't
win the game. They won the game and they didn't cover.
Ye lose, lose game. He there, your pick of Giants
(01:04:38):
plus one at the Saints, Well, won't even get into that.
And I also missed on the Rams and the forty
nine ers. Big thanks to Sean McVay for his coaching mothers. Okay,
let's get to it. Here's my pick four nine four
or five to one. Fact four nine four or five
to one. Fiction. This is recency bias, but I am
absolutely loving this pick Tampa, but Bay goes back home.
(01:05:03):
Take it on the forty nine Ers. Uh. San Francisco
Ladies and Gentlemen. Buccaneers minus two and a half. That's it,
all day, all day Bucks minus two and a half
against Santa Clara fact four nine four or five one.
If you disagree fiction four nine four or five one.
(01:05:25):
You know I just had a panic attack.
Speaker 8 (01:05:26):
Oh.
Speaker 2 (01:05:27):
I was looking at you, like what, Oh good, the
game's not on Monday. Oh gosh no, no, no, don't worry.
I thought it was because someone else picked it, but no, no, no.
Speaker 3 (01:05:37):
We're only the third pick of the week, so yeah.
Speaker 2 (01:05:39):
That would be that would be tough.
Speaker 4 (01:05:40):
No.
Speaker 2 (01:05:41):
I actually took Jacksonville plus four Tonite on Monday Night
Football and MJ took you to minus ten versus records.
I like that pick too, Yeah, Bucks minus two and
a half forty nine Ers fact four nine four five one.
If you disagree fiction four nine four five one. You're
trying to win a thousand dollars weekly prize or a
ten thousand dollars grand prize. It's as simple as that.
(01:06:05):
But the game's in Tampa. But I I don't know.
The Seahawks couldn't stop that team, that Tampa team, they
couldn't stop them, and they're the Mayfield. Yeah, and no Bosa.
That forty nine Ers defense is a little beat up,
but you take him out of the lineup, no pass rush,
he'll eat you alive. And the and the forty nine
ers are they're a paper tiger at four and one,
(01:06:28):
but give him credit. Four and one leading the division
right now, Seattle three and two, Rams three and two,
Cardinals now two and three. I just Tampa is good,
and I think you know we're gonna talk about tomorrow
with h Millen. If you're early right now saying who's
the MVP in the National Football League, argue against Baker Mayfield? Like,
(01:06:48):
argue against him for a second. I think it would
be rather difficult to do. So. He is having one
hell of a season so far. Is Baker may ten
touchdowns on the season? Uh, just an app I mean
passer rating a one oh four point four scrambles, runs,
(01:07:12):
does everything, has only thrown one interception so far. I mean,
I love Baker Mayfield. He just was terring and then
he's going without Mike Evans, who's a veteran receiver. Probably
when he comes back, still not their best receiver, because
that's like Buka from here, who was great yesterday. Yeah,
so I'm loving this pick. Of course, I've loved all
my picks this year, and I haven't done very well.
(01:07:33):
But I'm giving you this one bucks minus two and
a half at home against the forty nine ers fact
four nine four or five one. If you disagree fiction
four nine four five one thousand dollars week, probably you
can't win the money unless you text in fact or
fiction right now to four nine four or five to one.
This is kind of a win win. You pick fact
(01:07:56):
that means that you're you know, you know, hopefully win
thousand dollars are qualified whin it's thousand dollars. Also, here's
the other bonus part of it. You're rooting against the
forty nine ers double time. Oh hey, now that's fun,
right go seatt game will be over already. They played
early in the game. They played early in the day.
They played Jacksonville. Ten o'clock. Pasi time. I now watch
the Division Factor fiction by p by a Lucky Ego
(01:08:17):
Casino Hotel. Quick reminder for you, It's a cracking ticket

That's a Cracking ticket Tuesday coming up when tomorrow? Thank
(01:09:03):
you Safty joined us. Next we head down to the
(01:09:23):
Emerald Queen Casino. Yes, sir, I football. How was your
epic sports day, sir? Seahawks Mariners back to back?
Speaker 5 (01:09:32):
Well, I just realized something I put us on social media.
Speaker 9 (01:09:34):
That's maybe an overshare, by the way, Okay, but I
feel like, you know, we get up there at certain
age and you know, we need to share things like
this to you know, share tips with each other and
how to get through life and whatever. And it's gonna
say this, if you're a middle aged sports fan that's
taking a blood thinner. If you jump into a mosh
pit for four quarters or nine innings at a Mariner baseball
(01:09:56):
playoff game, you're gonna be taken home some souvenirs from
the game, because they're all over my body right now.
I look like freaking Rocky from the first Apollo Creed Fight.
Speaker 2 (01:10:05):
Man little bruised up? Are you?
Speaker 5 (01:10:06):
Dude? It's unbelievable And I hadn't even thought about that.
Speaker 2 (01:10:11):
You you you may not have heard this earlier speaking
of the mosh pit and the I mean the fans
of T Mobile standing most of the game, going bananas
and all that. You were a few rows in front
of my son.
Speaker 5 (01:10:22):
I know I saw him. Yeah, yeah, we made eye contact.
Speaker 2 (01:10:26):
He I don't know if you did, we would know him.
Speaker 5 (01:10:29):
I said, how did your dad afford those seats?
Speaker 2 (01:10:31):
He said, he didn't from somebody else, but he Cody
got for him the U. But he they were standing
him and his buddy Cody. There's a guy next to them,
little older gentleman wearing a Pittsburgh Pirates hat, and apparently
he was telling people sit down, sit down, sit down
in the entire game.
Speaker 5 (01:10:52):
I heard the guy.
Speaker 2 (01:10:52):
Did you hear him?
Speaker 5 (01:10:53):
Yeah? I did hear him. I didn't know where it
was coming from, but I heard the.
Speaker 2 (01:10:56):
Guy wearing a Pirate's hat a game at T Mobile.
Speaker 9 (01:10:59):
Diude, what we saw two people at the Seahawk game
wearing cowboy hats, like not cowboy hats, but Dallas cowboy
hats at the game?
Speaker 2 (01:11:05):
Yes, go back, like you're at a tea mobile park
telling people to sit down and you're not even a
fan of either one of the teams. Shut up.
Speaker 5 (01:11:12):
Well, I would just say no, and we're not going
to sit down.
Speaker 2 (01:11:15):
I mean, look, I ignore them, Idy.
Speaker 9 (01:11:18):
I always kind of feel bad when I'm like the
last guy standing up and nobody else is standing. Like
Glenn Close in the natural, remember when she's the one
person standing in the crowd was shut up said uh
blah blah blah, and you know, Rolly Hobbs goes along whatever.
Speaker 5 (01:11:33):
I always feel bad when I'm the last one.
Speaker 9 (01:11:35):
But I really hope that if we play on Friday,
which I'm kind of hoping that we don't because we
win these next two and be done with it. Yeah,
that that's not the case. I mean, the crowd was
freaking awesome. The Mariners game day presentation was awesome. The
crowd was awesome. The atmosphere was as electric as I've
ever seen at T Mobile Park. I mean, god, guys,
it's been twenty four years since they had a home
playoff game like that where they they gave the fans
(01:11:58):
something to cheer about. And I remember that game five
specifically in two thousand and one, getting back from Cleveland
late I used to have tickets in the three hundred
level back then. Morier shoved it up their ass that
day and they won Game five, after that crazy finish.
Speaker 5 (01:12:11):
In Game four in Cleveland the day before.
Speaker 9 (01:12:14):
Man, so it's been a long time since we felt that,
but that was that was pretty freaking cool.
Speaker 5 (01:12:18):
That was pretty freaking cool.
Speaker 2 (01:12:20):
What percentage of the time were you sitting versus standing
in that game?
Speaker 9 (01:12:23):
I'd say about sixty forty standing, But that's only because
of the people around me.
Speaker 5 (01:12:27):
I would have stood the whole game.
Speaker 2 (01:12:28):
That was awesome. I mean we were out in the
auxiliary press box that hit here and looking down and
it felt like people were standing about eighty percent of
the time down that right field line. It was in
the Polanco home run, the first one. Like I'd never
heard tea mobile like that in my life. Like it
was just off of that guy, and it was a screamer,
(01:12:48):
like no doubt about it off the bat. Oh my god,
it was awesome.
Speaker 4 (01:12:51):
It was well.
Speaker 9 (01:12:52):
Look, I mean it's one of those things where you're
just you're fidgety, right at least for me. I mean,
I can't just sit there and just you know, Jessman
was asking me off here, did you have fun?
Speaker 8 (01:13:02):
No?
Speaker 9 (01:13:02):
I didn't have any fun. Nothing fun. Of the hell
you're talking about fun? It was nothing fun about that
I was freaking. Maybe the anxiety was through the roof
the entire day, you know, I mean the Seahawk game,
I was like, whatever, I mean, it's like, just get
me over to T Mobile, man. I mean, Ian, I'll
be honest with you. And I think I saw Dick
there Jimmy's two during the post game. I bounced early
(01:13:22):
from the hot game. I just had to get the
hell out of there. I was like, I'm done. I
just want to get across the street. And it was
a great Seahawk game, phenomenal Seahawk game. So you know,
luckily I missed them blowing it in the fourth quarter.
Speaker 2 (01:13:32):
Well, you know, it's any think you got there early
because I left. I went to the press conference for
the Seahawks afterwards, and I probably left like thirty five
forty minutes after the game. So it was four forty
ish and I'm walking over trying to find the media
entrance because they switched it, which I'm looking over and
i walked from the left field side all the way
around to the other side to h to Edgar Martine's way,
(01:13:53):
and I'm surprised I got everybody in there. It was
and I'm telling you it feels like about fifty percent
of the crowd went to both.
Speaker 9 (01:14:01):
Right, totally, They're razy. There were a ton of people
that were going to both. I mean everybody that we
just kind of converse with throughout the day or you're going, yeah,
we're going, we're going to both, you know, and even
the people that weren't going to both were hoping to
get to both and find a way to get in
the door. But yeah, I mean it was an epic weekend.
I'm freaking exhausted. I know a lot of people are exhausted,
But man, was it worth in the end because that
(01:14:23):
was something that we haven't seen. I was twenty eight
years old the last time we saw a Mariner playoff win.
I think you were what forty seven the last fifty two? Yeah,
so it's been a while. I mean, you know, it
should not be that way. Let's be honest, right guys.
I think we all agree on that. Yeah, it should
not take that long. Like if you would have told
me walking out a Safegold field that day in two
(01:14:45):
thousand and one that we'd have to wait twenty four
more years to see a home playoff win, I would.
Speaker 5 (01:14:51):
Have said, you're out of your mind. Yeah, no way,
no chance.
Speaker 9 (01:14:54):
So let let's let's hope that that's the longest stretch
like that that we ever see.
Speaker 5 (01:14:58):
By far.
Speaker 2 (01:14:59):
My biggest up now is it we get to enjoy
this for a few weeks, right, let's.
Speaker 9 (01:15:03):
Go absolutely, it's one of you kick their ass two
games and then take a few days off so we
can stretch it out.
Speaker 4 (01:15:10):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (01:15:10):
Well, because because there's a team that might be done
tomorrow that you're going to face in the next round.
Because our friends in New York are not having a
good time right now.
Speaker 9 (01:15:17):
So no, but isn't the isn't the Alcs already set
for game one?
Speaker 5 (01:15:22):
Is right?
Speaker 2 (01:15:22):
Yeah?
Speaker 4 (01:15:22):
Yeah, all right?
Speaker 2 (01:15:23):
What are you got coming up?
Speaker 9 (01:15:24):
Well, let's see Hugh Millan's going to join us, so
a little more at four with him, we'll do a
little fun with audio, and anders is in for Jackson.
Jackson thought this would be a good week to take
off for some reason.
Speaker 2 (01:15:34):
I just saw Jackson last night the game. He's off,
all right.
Speaker 9 (01:15:38):
So Andrews has put together an emotional heart tugging montage
after last night's win that we'll hear as well. And
then we got Chiefs Jaguars coming up with Kevin Harlan
at five fifteen tonight.
Speaker 2 (01:15:50):
I'm shocked your voice is as strong as it is
right now.
Speaker 9 (01:15:53):
It took some work to get it backpal, Yeah, took
some work, a lot of hot tea and honey since
last night.
Speaker 5 (01:15:58):
Told by the Boss the weekend, don't lose your voice,
and I didn't. I didn't listen.
Speaker 2 (01:16:03):
I'm guessing by for it's gone again. But we'll see.
We'll see.
Speaker 1 (01:16:07):
For the mild mannered and marginally objectionable Inverness, this is
paddle day saying so long everyone,
