(00:28):
the AP College Basketball poll. Speaking of college basketball, Utah
has fired its coach Craig Smith his fourth season. Utah
an't very good this season, so he's out. Middle of
the season. Thanks for coming, fella. NFL Combine gets underway
the next few days over in Indianapolis. Shudoor sanders he's
not going to work out. Why, well, he's too cool
for that, man. Okay, buddy, do you do you shoulder?
Speaker 3 (00:50):
You do you?
Speaker 4 (00:51):
Let's get to the show.
Speaker 2 (00:53):
On a Monday edition of the program.
Speaker 4 (00:55):
Oh yeah, yeah, God, if this is the start of
the week.
Speaker 3 (00:59):
I don't know.
Speaker 4 (01:00):
Well, Jess, you get the bad wind up at your place.
Speaker 5 (01:03):
Yes, it just depends on I don't get the same
wind as other people.
Speaker 6 (01:06):
But yes, I.
Speaker 2 (01:08):
Am just in that dread mode, you know, like we're
like like you know, they're old and listen. B mac
Brian McMillan, if you're listening, I love you, buddy, you Abby.
The crew over there, my old stomping grounds. Stop with
the scare tactics. Please stop with it.
Speaker 6 (01:24):
It's gonna happen whether we're scared or not.
Speaker 2 (01:25):
Yeah, it's just like in some I mean, listen, we
went through the cyclone bomb bomb cyclone, whatever the hell
that was, thing called.
Speaker 4 (01:32):
I bring that up for this reason. We don't have
power in our building.
Speaker 6 (01:34):
Here here, Yes, thank you generator.
Speaker 2 (01:37):
We're on a generator which is at the really loud
noise downstairs that I kept hearing when I was looking
for the stairs.
Speaker 6 (01:43):
The stairwell that we had to walk.
Speaker 4 (01:44):
In that is marked very poorly.
Speaker 6 (01:47):
Oh, I ran into Bender.
Speaker 5 (01:48):
I was here at four thirty in the morning and
I ran into Bender in the parking lot, him frantically
trying to get in.
Speaker 1 (01:54):
Well.
Speaker 2 (01:55):
Yeah, the poor morning show crews like whether it be
Jody and Bender or the nineteen people from the Jubile Show,
or who else is in the morning. You and because
you're filling in for Ashley and Chuck. You were filling
in for two people.
Speaker 5 (02:07):
Today, I was Bucky was out, So it's I was
with Chuck for Ashley and Bucky.
Speaker 4 (02:13):
Yeah, so you were.
Speaker 2 (02:14):
Yeah, you were in for a lot of people today.
So yeah, everyone's like running around. So but the rest
of the building's dark. We have a generator power. And
I'm bringing that up because I thought tonight was supposed
to be when things went to hell and a hand
basket again, but apparently not.
Speaker 6 (02:25):
But yeah, it was funny.
Speaker 5 (02:26):
On my way to on my way to work, I was,
I have a new car.
Speaker 6 (02:30):
I got it a couple of months ago.
Speaker 4 (02:32):
Oh yeah, yeah, and I had a new car.
Speaker 3 (02:34):
Thank you.
Speaker 5 (02:34):
No, no, it's it's still new to me. So it
has this automatic braking system. And someone in front of
me their brake lights were out. They didn't have any
lights on or anything. And I drive, you know, I
take fifteenth to Elliott. Yeah, so lots of stop lights
and my car automatically broke for me.
Speaker 4 (02:53):
Oh yeah, mine does the same thing. It's stressful isn't.
Speaker 6 (02:55):
It Because you think you hit something, it's so.
Speaker 4 (02:58):
Reactive, and cars are not really smart, they're dumb.
Speaker 5 (03:02):
But it saved me this morning break lights did not
have lights on it. It was a black car, oh nothing.
Speaker 6 (03:10):
And so it broke. And that's when I realized that
the street lights.
Speaker 4 (03:13):
All round on fifteenth.
Speaker 5 (03:14):
Okay, well because yeah, because right on Elliott kind of
when it turns in from fifteen.
Speaker 2 (03:20):
They're on now, so I'm not sure why they are.
I think I think old Marty Sealy just didn't pay
his bills. Again, that's all his all his you know,
billion dollars in daddy just forgot to pay Seattle City light.
Speaker 4 (03:29):
I think that's what ended up happening.
Speaker 5 (03:30):
So yeah, I didn't even realize how bad it was,
is my point, because there was no traffic, so green lights,
green lights, and then that person in front of me
had stopped like a stop sign like you're supposed to do.
Speaker 6 (03:40):
What they didn't do is put on their lights.
Speaker 3 (03:42):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (03:42):
Oh here and here we are, Like I did.
Speaker 2 (03:45):
We did a bunch of kracking pregame postgame intermission shows
out at our Crack and Hockey Network studios out in
East Skate, which looked remarkably like Root Sports Studios. Oh
maybe that's because they are. But we had no power
there for during the cyclone bomb bomb cyclone?
Speaker 4 (04:04):
What is it?
Speaker 2 (04:04):
Is?
Speaker 3 (04:04):
A bomb?
Speaker 4 (04:05):
Cyclone? Bomb cycle?
Speaker 2 (04:06):
Okay, we had no power there for at least God,
it was like six days five six days where we
were at out there, and so I'm kind of used
to having like little to no power generator and stuff,
but I wouldn't expect it here in Seattle. Man, what
the hell, Bruce Harrold, maybe stop screwing around with the basketball.
Speaker 4 (04:24):
And get your city together. Huh, what's going on?
Speaker 3 (04:26):
Huh?
Speaker 4 (04:26):
What are we doing? Well, we're here.
Speaker 2 (04:29):
We're gonna molliwop at one twenty today now molly wap
Monday brought you by a friends at Simply Seattle Simply
Seattle dot com.
Speaker 4 (04:35):
Chris Natal join us. We'll start.
Speaker 2 (04:37):
I don't know if we'll do it every Monday, but
obviously we will once the season starts. But we'll check
you with those guys as and listen, we were a
couple of games into the season in the Cactus League season.
We've had a week of spring training. We had Jerry
Depoto on the morning show last week, so there's a
lot to discuss with Chris and Nate. We'll get to
that coming up at one twenty one or two segments.
(04:57):
We'll see, well if we may or may not do
the a power play one forty five. Never know what
those guys sometimes we keep him longer. We'll see how
it works out. With the show being back to one
to three, we'll kind of juggle things around.
Speaker 6 (05:07):
Yeah, all new fun and surprises.
Speaker 2 (05:09):
At two o'clock today, I'm gonna bring up just a
quick little topic and maybe we'll get into as the
week goes on. I might even bring it up with
the guys at the end. But we may be right
now in in our world of Seattle sports, Washington sports
as a whole, maybe the state, we may be laying
our entire you know, eggs in one basket called the
(05:31):
Seattle Americals. I'll explain what that means coming up at
two o'clock today as well. A couple of things that
the combine starts this week and things get kind of
really going Wednesday, I believe it is, but there's I
think tomorrow is when we hear from either Peter John
and then Wednesday Peter John, our guy Greg Bell's back
there covering it, So we'll probably Peter John John, Oh.
Speaker 4 (05:54):
God, I say Pete. I know, I'm sorry. Mike McDonald.
Speaker 3 (05:56):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (05:57):
When I'm saying Mike or John, one of those apostles,
you know, Hee'll be back there. I'm assuming with the
Raiders we probably won't hear from our stage. We probably
don't need to hear from him.
Speaker 6 (06:05):
When you said that, I was like, we're hearing from him.
Speaker 2 (06:06):
Oh wow, that's fourteen years that I'm still trying to
flesh out after one year. Yeah, I'm still trying to
flush that out of there after all that time. But yeah,
we'll hear from those guys later this week. Just this
is a it's always an interesting and it is a
fun week. And then now the games that get played
by guys who's going to work out and who's not?
The shidur standers thing to me? And I heard a
(06:29):
great debate, I mean, Christen and new Guy were going
back and forth Mark earlier today about bo Nicks versus Geno.
Speaker 6 (06:36):
Smith and Kid even took me down in the hallway
over that one.
Speaker 2 (06:40):
Well, I I the quarterback position is is such a
focal point of every team, rightfully, so almost important position
in sports, probably is the NFL quarterback and they are
always going to be surprised. Like last year was just nuts,
those six guys getting drafted in the first round. And
I remember saying over and over again, and I'll stand
(07:01):
by this, and I kind of look at it like
I come up from a little different angle than maybe
some here in this market. You would too, Jess if
you feel the same way, I don't know if you do.
But like I liked Michael Pennox more than a lot
of those guys. I liked him more than Drake May.
I liked him more than Boon Nicks.
Speaker 6 (07:17):
And you didn't want to like him as much as
you did.
Speaker 2 (07:19):
I did not because he went to the University of
Washington exactly. And actually, now I really hate Indiana Miles Rice,
so yeah, and then they beat Purdue this weekend, so
I don't like Indiana either. So there's nothing about where
Michael Pennix came from that I liked. But Pennix, Man Pennix,
I liked him a lot, and I thought the thing
I liked about him most is always his compete level, right,
(07:41):
Like he just competes. There are I think red flags,
and I'll be interested to see you'll you'll hear guys
say it doesn't matter, he's got the tape to prove it.
Whatever the Chadueur Sanders stuff. But chaduor Sanders would probably
and for that matter, cam Ward, but shduar Sanders who
said he's not gonna work out the combine that jumped
out at me this weekend of all the things going
(08:04):
on around the NFL Draft, and you're gonna be you'll
hear people split on it. Some will say big deal,
some will say not a big deal. I just think,
I Jess, I think there's something about competing that matters
and it means something.
Speaker 4 (08:21):
And I'm going to bring something up because you were there.
Speaker 2 (08:23):
I was in Spokane that night because it was a
Friday night game in twenty twenty three when Colorado rolled
into Pullman. It was cold, snowing a little bit, and
Wazoo kicked the living you know what out of Colorado.
Speaker 4 (08:39):
But members should do were tapped out of.
Speaker 2 (08:40):
That game, flat out tapped out of that game, wanted
no part of it, wanted no part of it. His
dad basically quit coaching in that game. And I remember
thinking and seeing that at the time, and it just
stood out to me. It's like, dude, and twenty years
as a Hall of Fame career, people come back if
I'm still alive and say, yeah, you know what for Nast,
you were wrong on this guy. But that was a
(09:02):
red flag to me last year, like just tapping out
because it's cold, it's a Friday, you're in pullman, whatever
I'm done to not throw at the combine. Michael Pennix
did last year, did pretty well. Yeah, okay, I just
show some compete. That to me is just I don't
I don't know if it's there. And I heard the
(09:24):
argument earlier with with Kid and and Mark about you know,
the quarterbacks. Bonix ended up out a nice year. I
didn't love Bonix coming out of college. And here's where
I'm the dumbest guy in the world. With quarterbacks. I
didn't like Jane Daniels that much. I oh, but I
but my mind still always I always defaulted back to
skinny Kid from Arizona State.
Speaker 4 (09:43):
Right, that could run, but that was it?
Speaker 6 (09:45):
Right, Well, you went with your own eyes and your
own but I didn't, and.
Speaker 4 (09:48):
I didn't watch him enough at LSU.
Speaker 2 (09:49):
I watched him at LSU enough because we had the
heighest of vote and all that stuff, and I was like, Okay,
he's doing it whatever. I still like Panics better. Daniels
was great this year. He was awesome, and so was Nix.
But man, that the misrate on quarterbacks is so damn high.
I want to have every single bit of information that
(10:10):
I can possibly garner, including throwing against air in Indianapolis
with unfamiliar wide receivers. It everybody can look good throwing
in an indoor facility on your own college campus to
your own guys. Everyone's every division one quarterback, frankly is
going to look good. I've I know d three quarterbacks
that I've watched play the last four years that would
(10:31):
look good in that same environment. If I'm throwing of
my same guys, my guys indoors, perfect setting.
Speaker 4 (10:36):
I'm gonna look really good.
Speaker 2 (10:38):
This is where you kind of So I'm really glad
Seattle doesn't have that option this year.
Speaker 6 (10:45):
Is my point shoot draft a quarterback.
Speaker 4 (10:47):
Because those two guys will be gone long before they get.
Speaker 5 (10:53):
No.
Speaker 2 (10:53):
That's not in John Schneider's DNA. So I'm really glad,
and those guys could both end up being really good.
I like Cam better, and that pains me. Much like Panics.
It pays me because I thought Cam couldn't win a
big game to save his life in Pullman, and he didn't,
and even frankly he didn't got and then he lost
a couple of games, not just by his fault because
they had a bad defense in Miami. But like, but
(11:15):
I'll I'd take Cam over Shadu or but I'd want
every bit of information. I saw that this weekend and
the debate about Gino.
Speaker 4 (11:21):
What are we doing?
Speaker 2 (11:22):
Gino? Is there a quarterback? It always coming to false
back to one thing? What's the option? Well, Kirk Cousins, no,
you want that? No, h you know, if if they
let Darnold go, do you want to know, I'll take
Gino over those guys.
Speaker 6 (11:38):
About Stafford, well that's another interesting.
Speaker 2 (11:40):
You're not going to get him here and not with
the now, with the cap hit and all that kind
of stuff. I think he ends up in Vegas with
with Pete.
Speaker 6 (11:47):
That would not surprise me, and that would think it's perfect.
Speaker 2 (11:49):
And you know what, that'd be cool. And if Pete
wins with them, that'd be awesome. You know, all that
would be great. But I'm just glad what you do
are not going to be.
Speaker 4 (11:56):
You know what you do? You, buddy, you do you?
Speaker 2 (11:58):
I just that was a red flag and I'm at
Seattle doesn't have that opportunity to pick him. All right,
we'll take a break. We are going to mollywop, Ladies
and gentlemen. Somehow, some way we are mollywopping with Chris
and Nate as we get Cactus League play underway. Mallywap

then we will immediately call them on the phone. Oops,
and guess what, I think we just lost them.
Speaker 6 (13:29):

Speaker 4 (13:31):
That was a good intro, all right, get them on

(13:53):

Speaker 6 (14:00):
Well, hell, please raise a little hell. Oh yes, and
they're down.

Speaker 4 (14:51):
Chris Crawford is with me.
Speaker 7 (14:52):
Hello, sir, You know what happens when you don't validate
my parking on Mondays, things like this happens.
Speaker 4 (14:59):
Wait a second, did you not get your parking validated
when you filled in for me?
Speaker 8 (15:02):
Sir?
Speaker 7 (15:03):
I sure didn't. I got it on Friday. I got
it on Friday, but then on Monday I wandered around
the building like a nomad looking for somebody to pay
my three hundred. Now I'm just kidding, but yeah, nobody,
nobody validated, and I cursed the station, and uh, is
it gonna happen until I guess goes for you again.
Speaker 2 (15:20):
Well, that's because your friend Jessamine wasn't here, and she's
like one of the few people that knows how to
do that, know how to do that. So I mean,
if you're thinking Purple Sheet knows how to do such
a thing, you're you're sadly mistaken, sir, You're sadly mistaken.
It was, yeah, the days when we used to we
leaned heavily on Kevy Kevin Shockey for years. He leaves
(15:42):
and then we were kind of in no man's land
for a few months, and then Jess joined us, and boom,
now we got that. So yeah, no, Jess, you're in trouble,
all right, paying attention to whales you were. Chris Crawford
is with us, Nathan Bishop of this. One of the
things real quick guys that Jess was doing are gonna
do today, was redo the Open because we have new
things and new companies and all that fun stuff. Nathan's
(16:04):
got his new project, the light Bat and all that.
So we played the old open because we still like
it and we want and can you make a note, Yes.
Speaker 6 (16:11):
We were all dancing to it together before the time.
Speaker 4 (16:13):
Yes, we were keep the open, same music, same everything.
We just need to tweak it whenever.
Speaker 6 (16:18):
We got I got it, I got it all. I
just can't work right now.
Speaker 2 (16:22):
Yes, yes, Nick and others that are texting in Yes,
we are going to Mollywop today. I got people texting
me even when I'm doing a cracking game yesterday, Cracking
broadcast yesterday, and I got people tweeting and everything else.
Speaker 4 (16:33):
He goes Mollywop in the morning, goes Molly wopping to morow,
what's going on? You may wop in the world.
Speaker 2 (16:37):
Listen, man, I'm worried about can the crack and final
way to beat Andre Vassilevski And you're asking me about
Molly Wap.
Speaker 4 (16:42):
But here they are.
Speaker 2 (16:43):
The boys are here first one of Cactus League season,
and away we go. Nathan, how are you, my friend?
Speaker 8 (16:49):
I'm good.
Speaker 9 (16:49):
You know I have power out here.
Speaker 8 (16:51):
Everyone makes fun of me and rural kids that county
and the fact that I have to take a horse
to work, and you know, I have to crank a
thing to get water out of my deposet. But I'm
sitting here, warm and safe, Bougeoisie and your King County
high rises there in the target planet. I bet Chris
has power in Mason County of all places, right Chris.
Speaker 2 (17:12):
So yeah, well listen, if Mason County has it and
Kitsaff County has it, then we're all in trouble right now,
because I mean we're talking backwards for you guys out
there right now. All right, let's get to it. We
got a lot to get to today. It's Mollywap Monday
brought to you. I simply say, I ittle simply say
dot com. Nathan's here. Chris is here and excited to
get this going again, to get one more time this year,
you guys are We were just telling a new guy,
(17:32):
Mark a minute ago, as we call him the FNNG,
the new guy.
Speaker 6 (17:36):
I'm so glad that it's not me anymore.
Speaker 2 (17:38):
Yeah, nope, you're not the new person anymore. And you
were really never the new guy, Jess, just as an
FYI you were, yeah and again fng, yeah you were.
Speaker 6 (17:46):
You were still down.
Speaker 2 (17:47):
Yeah, he's the new guy. And he's like, so, what's
this mollywop thing all about it? So well, you just
tune in at one twenty and you'll find out. And
I don't even know how to describe it other than
it's a ton of fun. We do it every Monday
and and people they loved it. They either love it
or they love to hate it, one or the other.
But there's a lot of level in the air, and
that's what we like with you guys. Let's start with this.
We'll get to Depoto in his conversation with Chuck and
(18:08):
Buck last week and just kind of the bigger picture
that got everybody run. It's amazing he speaks, people get
riled up. I just call it sports radio gold. But
before we get to that, let's talk a little bit
about spring training and specifically Cactus League play. Chris, I'll
start with you this time. What do you look for
like if a fan asks you. Hey, Chris Crawford, you
do this for a living. What are you watching for?
Speaker 4 (18:29):
What do you look for? What matters in spring training
and Cactus League?
Speaker 7 (18:33):
I should say, you know, the joke answer is you
look for what idiot is spending the ten dollars to
go sit in the grass beats because you're just going
to get a sunburn. But the honest answer is, like,
it's not meaningless, but there's not a whole heck of
a lot to it. You take a look at the
history of teams. One of the worst spring training teams
(18:55):
that I can remember is the two thousand and one
Seattle Mariners, and everything ended up being okay. You know,
it's a little different now, just because you know, we
see so much of it. So, I mean, you're just
looking at how comfortable guys look. You look at guys
who have made twing changes, Guys who have a different stance,
guys who are standing on the different side of the mound.
Most people are picking up on that. Most of these
people have lives, and I encourage them to continue to
(19:17):
have them. But so like dorks like me, people who
like look at that type of stuff, that's all you're
really looking for. But like it is nice to see
if a guy's picking up the baseball well, and that's
one of those things that you can see like a
guy who looks more you know, people make fun of
the term locked in, but those players that look a
little bit more comfortable, and you know, comforts a big thing,
(19:40):
especially with all the talk that we've talked about with
how T Mobile Park apparently is the most extreme ballpark
in all of sports, more so even than Course Field.
But honestly, it's not about the results. It really is
more about that process. If you're down in Peoria, just
have a good time, enjoy watching some baseball. You had
to wait wait too long for this all to come
(20:01):
about again. So I don't want to say that you
can completely dismiss the results of everything that's happening, but
you pretty much can dismiss all the results of everything that's.
Speaker 4 (20:12):
Happening too, Nathan, what do you watch for?
Speaker 8 (20:15):
I think the most important thing to piggyback up of
what Chris is saying there too, is just keep in
mind when you're watching these games. One, like Chris said,
have a fantastic time. Man, this it's sweeve. We've spent
such a I mean, look at the weather outside right now,
the weather is so crappy. We deserve to have something
like baseball back in our lives. But remember that the
players that are playing these games in Cactus League, winning
(20:36):
the game and doing things to help you win baseball
games is not what they're focusing on. And that's a
really huge thing to keep in mind. While you're trying
to watch these games. What you're looking for, what I
look for primarily is health. Make sure the guys move well,
look comfortable, look like they belong out there on the field.
For younger guys, you know, guys that may not be totally.
Speaker 10 (20:55):
Developed, or a guy that's like fighting for a job
like I don't know if we're gonna talk about it later,
but somebody like Bliss, you want to see if there's
any sort of unnoticeable uptick in any sort of skill
and ending.
Speaker 9 (21:05):
You know, they measured these things in spring training.
Speaker 8 (21:07):
Now they have stat cast down there now, so you
can measure things like exit b low and launch angle
and stuff like that. But by March, you're just looking
to avoid red flags. See a comfortable, healthy roster that
gets out there on the field. And remember that if
a guy like Logan Gilbert gets lit up in a
pitching in a in a Cactus League start. He may
have had one thing he was going out there to do,
and it was to try to throw a fastball on
(21:27):
the outside as many times as he possibly could. And
who cares what happens after that? It just doesn't matter otherwise.
Speaker 2 (21:33):
I mean, I was going, Chris, I was gonna go
pure panic mode. Logan Gilbert gives up a couple runs
and is only initting pitch today, walked a couple as well,
leaves the game of an eighteen e R and Cactus
League play. I mean, so we don't start the alarm
bells with that. We're not worried about that With Logan Gilbert.
Speaker 7 (21:49):
No, I'm not sending him down to give up soft
goals and Coachella Valley just yet.
Speaker 5 (21:53):
Like no.
Speaker 4 (21:56):
Across the ballot, I don't feel good about it.
Speaker 7 (22:02):
Although Coachella Valley sounds like it'd be pretty nice to
be in right about now, Like staring out the Elvis
right now, it's it's so meaningless. It's just about getting
work in now. Next time you want to see Logan
Gilbert go two or three innings just because you know
you want to see that natural progression you know of.
Speaker 4 (22:18):
You know, not just the results.
Speaker 7 (22:19):
It's about how many pitches he throws, how much deeper
he can get into games so that he's ready to
give you six innings when the season starts. That's the
ultimate thing here. The actual results just mean bumpki.
Speaker 4 (22:31):
Yeah, and I joke obviously, but that's that's it.
Speaker 3 (22:35):
I mean.
Speaker 2 (22:35):
Now, I mean, I think there's some guys pitching wise
that you probably do want to see how a decent
outing every like Sasito went on today and you know,
he had a good inning, you know, and didn't give
anything up. I mean, I don't know if he's a
I don't know if he's a to use a football term,
a bubble guy or not. But you you know, guy
like that, you guy like that. You know he's only
going to pitch an inning anyway, That's what he's gonna
pitch her in the season. And he might be working
(22:56):
on something, but it's good to see. Can I get
excited at all about the Mitches having back to back
good games Garbor yesterday, Nathan and Hanniger at home run today?
Speaker 9 (23:06):
I know, for now, Ian, it's still a free country.
Speaker 8 (23:08):
You can get excited about absolutely whatever it is that
you want to get excited about and that if that
includes Mitch Handiger in a home run today.
Speaker 9 (23:16):
God bless.
Speaker 8 (23:17):
I think that it's always better to have something good
happen than something bad happened, despite what my brand may
say that I actually feel about.
Speaker 4 (23:23):
Those kinds of things. But it's great.
Speaker 8 (23:26):
I mean, look what I'm not going to transition into
the other topic that we're going to go to too much.
Speaker 9 (23:30):
But a thing worth remembering is that the Mitches are
getting paid something like thirty dollars this year, and a
big part of the reason of why the Marriers were
so quiet in this offseason is because those two guys
are getting paid a fair amount of money for their services.
So if the team is able to.
Speaker 8 (23:46):
Ring any kind of production out of both of them,
and I'm I'm a little bit more optimistic with Garber
than i am with Hanneger, then that's obviously you.
Speaker 3 (23:54):
Feel for this team.
Speaker 2 (23:55):
And part of the pr thing too, Chris, is when
you look at hitters and we'll get to the I'm
going to get to the bliss and a couple of
guys for you know that are in some battles, I guess,
and not just roster spot but also maybe to play
one of the things. And most of us will look
at a box score and we couldn't tell you who
the pitchers were, and are they a double A guy,
triple A guy, or are they a guy that's a
fringe or a solid major league or you can look
(24:15):
at that. Is that what you kind of look at
when you're especially with the guys that are like bubble guys,
and you know, like you don't care what like Julio's
doing necessarily or cal Rawley's doing to the play, because
like Nate said, they're much like a pitcher, they're probably
working on something. But if it is a guy that
that you know is battling for a spot on that
twenty six man roster, Chris, I'm assuming the first thing
you do if if a guy does have a good
(24:36):
day or bad day, you probably look to see who
he did it off of.
Speaker 7 (24:39):
Yeah, it's nice to see, you know, if he's doing
it off of a legitimate prospect. If it's not facing
a major league player, that's awfully nice to see. If
he's facing some guy, you know, to quote major league
two off a guy who'll be begging rushers in a week,
that's that's a little less exciting, but you know, it's
just great to see some success for Hanniger because he
was a disaster last year. I mean, we talked about
(25:00):
Garber and stuff, but Mitch Haniger, a guy who has
had a ton of success in Major League Baseball and
one of the most popular Mariners of the last what
fifteen years, what's terrible last year? And the fact is
the Mariners are not going to have a guy making
that kind of money not play for them, and they're
going to give him every chance. So why wouldn't you
(25:22):
root for success? The only thing you could say, I suppose,
if you're looking real negative, is you say, hey boy,
if he gets off to two going to start, maybe
they're hitting him in the middle of the lineup. Again,
I don't think that's actually gonna happen. I think they
have realistic expectations of what Mitch Haniger is. But it's
sure better to see early success than the alternative because
(25:42):
baseball's mental thing. I talked about it with Nady McKay
while you were being lazy, like how important it is
to have a guy like bounce back and be able
to have that blank slate, to have that ability to
you know, remember the previous success that he's had. Mitch
Haniger's had a lot of success, and isn't that far
removed from me being a quality baseball player. Think everyone
(26:02):
has every reason to expect negativity based on what he
did last year, but the alternative is not that far away,
and it wouldn't completely shock me if Mitch Haniger was
at least a usable major league player in twenty twenty five.
Speaker 4 (26:16):
Two points of clarification. One lazy, No, I was.
Speaker 2 (26:20):
I took a couple of days off, and I don't
appreciate all of your minions texting me and tweeting in
and doing stuff on the text line of when is
Chris coming back again? I don't appreciate that in any way,
shape or form. Yeah, I'd rather you do an awful
job next time you fill in, as opposed to coming
in and trying to, you know, like do good. And
I mean, I don't need purple sheet to be thinking
(26:42):
about things like oh, let me think here, guys.
Speaker 9 (26:46):
And you just have me come billing for you next time.
You'll have no worries whatso over.
Speaker 2 (26:49):
I'll get to you in a second, sir. The yeah, yeah,
So I don't need d Crawford, so you just take
stand down a little bit. Number two, Let's go back
to Nathan. What do you mean it's still a free
country for now? What does that mean?
Speaker 5 (27:00):
No?
Speaker 4 (27:00):
No, no, But let's not get.
Speaker 3 (27:01):
Into that right now.
Speaker 4 (27:05):
I don't.
Speaker 2 (27:06):
I don't want to get into that because Chris's friends
out there and Mason County will come look for me
at that point in time, So I mean find it.
Speaker 8 (27:11):
They've got plenty of power and even if they don't,
have got plenty of gasoline the generator.
Speaker 7 (27:17):
Nathan, are you having to write to the real estate
folks about the five things that you've done this week?
Speaker 3 (27:23):
Oh?
Speaker 9 (27:24):
Man?
Speaker 8 (27:25):
Yeah, let me tell you, working a job that's commissioned
only there the high demand for me to justify my
position in the world.
Speaker 3 (27:31):
Let me tell you.
Speaker 4 (27:34):
Oh, I hope Purple. She never asked me that today.
Speaker 2 (27:40):
See, I talked to Nat and Chris on Sunday and
scheduled a Mollie Watt for a Monday touch.
Speaker 6 (27:44):
Base with Jess working on the weekend.
Speaker 2 (27:46):
That's about it. That's that's that. Probably I put a
period at the end of the story. At that point
in time. Let's, uh, Chris, what is it like? And
we'll get into this next week more when we have
a little bit more of a sample size and we're
you know, we're what three now three and a half
games in to the Cactus League schedule. But from a like,
we know who the catcher is, we know who the
(28:07):
outfielders are. We think we know who the third baseman
I guess plural would be Emmy n with Polanco and uh,
what's the other guy's name, seal Dono SOLANOA that guy, Uh.
Speaker 5 (28:21):
We know that.
Speaker 2 (28:22):
But what who are the guys that really are kind
of bubble guys that you're going to keep a close
eye on.
Speaker 4 (28:30):
That's a really good question.
Speaker 7 (28:31):
I would say that the most bubble guy to me
is probably Ryan Bliss, who you were talking about earlier,
just because you know, it really depends on what they
think of Ryan Bliss. Do they view him as an
everyday potential player, Because if they view him as an
everyday potential player, and if he doesn't win the second
base job out of spring, it makes more sense for
him to go to Tacoma right to get that everyday
(28:52):
playing time. But if they view his ceiling as a
utility guy and a guy who also can really help
the Seattle Mariners in twenty twenty five. I think he's
go It's gonna be really important for him to get
off to a good start to spring. Dylan Moore, of course,
you know, I heard that he's bones picked to click,
which is just a weird thing to say on a
radio show. But like Dylan Moore, is gonna have to
(29:15):
get off to a good start as well, because I
think the Briners have confidence in Dylan Moore. I don't
think they're so confident in Dylan Moore that if he
has a poor spring that they wouldn't look at upgrading
the second base position. Now, it's sure would have been
nice to just upgrade the second second base position regardless.
Excuse me, but I think Ryan Bliitz and Dylan Moore
are two guys that you have to pay close attention
(29:35):
to because they're players that the results matter a little
bit more for it, like Julio Rodriganz could go oh
for eighty four with eighty three strikeouts, then they'd probably
be a little bit concerned, but not really whereas they
want to see Dylan Moore or Ryan Blisz really take
off this spring. I think because if either one of
them can be your starting second basement, or if they
(29:56):
just feel that Ryan Blisz with his speed, visibility against
left hand to get on against what's day of pitching,
to play at second base, third base, probably in the
outfield as well. I think their results are probably the
most important, and I would put Bliss the most in
that bubble.
Speaker 4 (30:10):
Zut yet, Nathan, would you agree with that or would
you go somewhere else?
Speaker 5 (30:14):
No?
Speaker 4 (30:14):
I think I would.
Speaker 8 (30:14):
Definitely agree, especially because with these kinds of things, especially
early in the spring, when you see the beat guys
Adam Dude and Ryan Divish and others right about these
position battles, They're getting that information from the team, you know,
so like clearly that's what the team is thinking. Those
these are the guys that are on the bubble. I
don't think that there's much of a of a question
whether Dylan Moore is going to be on this roster.
(30:36):
I know that this will drive Chris absolutely insane, and
I apologize in advance because he is as.
Speaker 9 (30:41):
Always smarter than me and better than me in every way.
Speaker 8 (30:44):
But I can make a decent argument that right now
Dylan Moore is the best incumbent infielder on this roster.
So I don't think that there's a huge demand for
replacing him at this point. I am interested to see
if Ryan Blizz can hold. It would obviously be a huge,
huge boon for this franchise to be able to develop
a couple of infielders while they're waiting for this bumper
(31:06):
crop of young guys down in the minors to graduate.
So I think that is definitely the position to watch.
The everybody in the infield, to me, is a position
to watch. There's so much uncertainty at basically every position
in the infield, but the big one is Ryan Bliss
and Dylan Moore at second base.
Speaker 4 (31:24):
Kind it's ael like he's disparaging your son, mister Crawford. There,
mister Crawford, That's kind of what it was.
Speaker 7 (31:29):
I don't blame him, like and there's just so much
volatility with what you can get from all of these guys.
It's sad. The guy I probably have the most confidence
it is Luke Rayley, just because you know, outside of
two months, Luke Rayley was one of the best hitters
on the Seattle Mariner. And I like Dylan Moore. I
think he's a perfectly promulent backup infielder and a guy
who can play in the outfield and stuff like that.
(31:51):
Relying on Dylan Moore in this ballpark in the year
of Our Lord twenty twenty five just doesn't make any
sense to me whatsoever. Hatred of Dylan Moore. It's a
question of whether Dylan Moore actually fits as a regular
on a team that should be competing for the playoffs
in twenty twenty five.
Speaker 4 (32:08):
And just real quick, I gave to break.
Speaker 2 (32:10):
But Christen, what you mean by that, just so people know,
is when they did that ballpark study and when you
look at Dylan Moore, his how he hits, where he hits,
all that, it just doesn't fit Tea Mobiles. What you're saying,
not even disparaging the player so much, is just the
player doesn't fit the ballpark right.
Speaker 7 (32:25):
Doesn't fit the ballpark. The true outcome players who hit
from the right side, I think, are really going to
struggle in t Mobile Park. And you do not talk
about much more of a true outcome guy. The guy
who either strikes out, draws a walk, or hits a homer,
and that's pretty much Dylan moore skill set at this point.
Can also steal bases, and you know he won the
Gold Glove and all that, YadA YadA YadA. There are
(32:48):
inherent flaws in Moore's game that makes him much more
bench bat than everyday player.
Speaker 2 (32:54):
In twenty twenty five, quick Break will come back and
we'll talk about Dipoto not sitting down with Chuck and
Buck for his inner but standing up over them for
his interview.
Speaker 4 (33:03):
Don't talk about that. And next with the guys, it's
a alli what Monday brought to you by simply Seattle.

When did the Poto interview?
Speaker 4 (33:58):
Was Tuesday?
Speaker 5 (33:59):
Right?
Speaker 4 (33:59):
You did the show Monday day?
Speaker 3 (34:00):
Tuesday?
Speaker 4 (34:01):
Was it Tuesday or Wednesday?
Speaker 2 (34:02):
Anyway, the Topoto interview took place with the guys down
there in Peoria. You know, they so Chucky and Bucky
did a good job all week they're talking to guys.
There's the things that jumped out at me. And I
know it's kind of a summer the summer past time
in Seattle is to bash the baseball team and especially
the ownership and the GM right or whatever. He is
(34:23):
the president of Baseball Operations. And I understand, yeah, and
I understand that. But at the same time, a lot
of it's brought on by himself. Of all the things
he said, we all understand that there are financial constraints.
Now that's a Stanton problem. That's not a dipotal problem.
If Stanton says we're going to, you know, have a
self imposed salary cap, then so be it. But Chris
(34:45):
the one thing that jumped out at me that I
just didn't like when I heard him say it was
he didn't want to make any big moves that would
be catastrophic in the end. In other words, I'm not
going to take a chance because I still want to
just win. Literally I'm paraphrasing here, I want to win
fifty four percent of my games. I want to be
like any plus win team every year, and I'm not
going to take that. And I just thought that was
an odd thing coming from a GM, because most gms
(35:07):
in most sports have enough confidence in their own abilities
they never think they're making a bad move. I thought
that was the strangest thing and kind of maybe the
most alarming thing I heard from him.
Speaker 7 (35:18):
Yeah, and I would agree with that, and I would say,
I kind of question where it's coming from. I kind
of question how much of that is ownership, kind of
telling him that that's how things are going to go,
that they are the ones who are afraid of that stuff,
and you are going to be the mouthpiece. And one
of the things being the mouthpiece does is it gives
you a lot, a lot, a lot of job security.
(35:40):
It's something that I keep going back to, you know,
I didn't listen to very much that Kevin shock he said,
mainly because he was just constantly swearing on the air.
But one of the things he said was that he
thought that Jerry Depoto was in a perfect position to
be just good enough to keep his job for a very,
very long time. And I'm not saying that Jerry Photo
(36:00):
doesn't want to win. I'm just saying that it's something
that he always brought up, that he is in that
perfect spot where if he keeps this team good enough
without spending a ton of money, he's going to be
able to keep this job forever. And when you hear
comments like that, you kind of hell, well, yeah, yeah,
that makes a ton of sense because if he never
(36:22):
actually takes that massive risk, he doesn't have to worry
about that stuff. Because John Stanton loves this. John Stanton
loves that he's still getting plenty of attendance, and spring
training attendance is going to be just fine at the
ballpark after the first couple of weeks. It's always bad
for the first couple of weeks because of how you
know the ballpark works and because it's cold weather. But
(36:44):
after that everything's going to be fine. He's going to
get his thirty five thousand over the summer and they're
not going to take that huge risk. It's extremely frustrating,
but it's understandable, and I think it's how a lot
of gms honestly feel that if they could just have
that job security and know they don't have to take
that massive financial risk, they would love to be able
to do that. And I think that's exactly where Jerry
(37:06):
Depoto when the Silo Mariners are right now.
Speaker 9 (37:12):
Man, what a I agree with everything Chris said.
Speaker 8 (37:15):
What what an a just depressing way to consider your
job as a head of the basketball operations executive?
Speaker 9 (37:23):
If that if that's what? If that is indeed what
his mindset is, that's so solo.
Speaker 8 (37:27):
If this guy had a major league career, he's I mean,
he doesn't get paid modern MLB salaries to do this
or back when he was playing.
Speaker 9 (37:34):
But this isn't a guy who needs the job to survive.
Speaker 8 (37:37):
You know, why would you want a job like this
where people like Chris and I get on the radio
once a week and make fun of him.
Speaker 9 (37:43):
If you're not trying to win as many games as.
Speaker 8 (37:46):
You possibly can, what's even the point of this entire
exercise if it's not to triangulate like the perfect spot
on a chart where you can like achieve maximum efficiency
for money per win or something like that.
Speaker 9 (37:59):
I know that's what ownership cares about, but you.
Speaker 8 (38:01):
Don't have to align with that.
Speaker 9 (38:02):
I'm just I'm so tired of hearing about it. I'm
so tired of thinking about it.
Speaker 8 (38:06):
I will say again with the interview, I think one
of the funny things is when Jerry tells the truth
in ways that I think are very humorous, like when
he was talking about and I understand some people misinterpreted
what he said, but he gave that quote about how
they're not a poor team and they're spending almost as
much money as they've ever spent in the history of
the organization, and it's kind of true.
Speaker 9 (38:26):
In some respects.
Speaker 8 (38:28):
And then you the follow up question I just want
to hear, is, well, yes, but we're spending so much
of it on terrible baseball players. Jerry, why every year
are we spending so much money on terrible players? And
nobody ever follows up with any question like that to him,
and I would love to hear his response to it.
(38:48):
But man, I just felt I'm so excited for spring
training and so excited for baseball, and I nothing Chris
said struck me as new. But the way he presented
that in such a clear and concise manner so depressing.
Man Like, we if that's what Jerry's if that's what
his mindset is for this job.
Speaker 9 (39:06):
He should quit because it's not. It's it's not what
sports is about.
Speaker 8 (39:11):
It's not what the fans want, it's not what the
players do, it's not what all the people that make his.
Speaker 9 (39:16):
Job on reality want out of all of this, out
of sports. So I hope that he's wrong, even if
I don't think that he is.
Speaker 2 (39:23):
Yeah, you know, the hard thing is is that you know,
like if you're a GM or a personnel guy, like
your job is to build a championship team. And there's
a Chris, if I'm correct me, if I'm wrong here,
there's a risk reward there, right, Like you're you're gonna
like you're going to make mistakes, You're gonna open yourself
up for criticism. John Schneider won a Super Bowl and
(39:44):
is getting criticized, you know, daily now in this town
because they haven't won a playoff game forever. But he
won a super Bowl and he's swung and missed a
bunch of times. You know, I haven't got a bunch
of times, but you've got to have the wherewithal. I
sure as hell help Ron Francis is think in that way,
you know, with the trade in online for the NHL
coming up, I mean, I just like, let's let's go
(40:05):
down that road. Well, there'll be plenty of time to
discuss later, all this stuff will, but I mean, listen,
the bottom line is we got baseball. It's sunny and Peoria.
There's things to look at. I think, if nothing else, Guys,
we've given them people all a chance. You don't take
a look at Ryan Bliss, what's he doing? What's what's doing?
Speaker 4 (40:19):
More doing?
Speaker 2 (40:20):
You know, And we didn't even get into it. We'll
do it next week. We'll talk a little bit next week,
a little bit more about the young guys. You know,
is there going to be a guy one of those
middle infielders Chris and Nate, Chris and you and I
have talked about so often that's gonna all of a
sudden have that spring where it's like, not sure if
we can ignore this, not sure if we can just
kind of let this thing go. So we'll talk about
(40:41):
that next week. In the meantime, mister Chris Crawford, when
you're not filling in for me and while he pipping
in all that fun stuff, where can they find all
your work?
Speaker 7 (40:50):

band to the NFL Competition Committee.
Speaker 3 (42:52):
I like it.
Speaker 4 (42:53):
Uh, you hate the I don't mind it.
Speaker 6 (42:56):
I won me some money, So yeah, I don't mind
it because I I.
Speaker 4 (43:00):
Don't mind it.
Speaker 2 (43:01):
I just I love when people get all upset about
something they can't stop.
Speaker 4 (43:06):
You know, I know who doesn't like it. Our friend
Mike Hongrian doesn't like it. Oh yeah, so you know
what I'll go with this. If Mike doesn't like it,
I don't like it.
Speaker 6 (43:13):
That's a pretty good Is that a good barometer to have?
I think he's a good barometer.
Speaker 4 (43:18):
Yet I think so too.
Speaker 2 (43:20):
College basketball Husky is taking on Wisconsin tomorrow. Badger's ranked
eleventh in the country. They're not going to be in
a good mood because Oregon came back from double digits
to beat them on Saturday, upset them in Wisconsin.
Speaker 6 (43:32):
Can you root for Oregon basketball.
Speaker 4 (43:35):
When they pay?
Speaker 2 (43:36):
You know, I root for anybody that makes Washington upset
and Oregon does. Ohana Almond wins twenty games every year,
like they're going back to the tournament again. This season,
Washington is trying to get out of last place in
the Big Ten. More on that in a second. In
a bigger picture, Kog's play on Thursday against San Diego
at home.
Speaker 4 (43:55):
They're awful.
Speaker 6 (43:56):
They are They're really bad.
Speaker 2 (43:59):
Text well, I was out, like I got some issues

with power out, trying to figure out how to just
behind the curtains.
Speaker 4 (45:08):
We do we do? We take people behind the curtains
on this show.
Speaker 3 (45:11):
Yes, we do.
Speaker 2 (45:11):
When we mollywop, we either depending on everyone's schedule, because shockingly,
Chris and Nathan both have lives outside of a weekly
radio appearance called Malliwak Molliwap Monday. Nathan's a real estate agent.
Chris is working for a number of different entities doing
his media stuff. So sometimes we pre tape it and
if we do, usually in the morning. We just do
(45:32):
it on our stream yard they call it, and so
we pre tape it and but sometimes we do it live.
But we like to do it where we do the
stream yard and thanks to Chris for setting that up
always for us and that way we can all see
each other. Yes, when we're doing round Tip, we do
the round table with the hockey Wop on Friday. We
like to see each other. It's easier with multiple people
with multiple voices. That's just kind of the way it is.
(45:52):
Not everybody in radio likes that. I like to see guys,
so we do that. We do it that way.
Speaker 4 (45:58):
So we stream guards getting set up. Chris already had
it ready.
Speaker 2 (46:03):
We're on and no word of a lot with our
backup generator power working on a the rat downstairs is
spinning that wheel as fast as he possibly can, and
right as we went to it, boom, it died.
Speaker 4 (46:15):
And we're trying to get stuff set up.
Speaker 6 (46:17):
We had it all set and they were good to go.
We could see.
Speaker 2 (46:20):
We had to do it on the phone, which is fine,
and it worked out great. We had great content, good
stuff today from those guys. Yeah, Diylamore is kind of
one of the focal points of Cactuously play. But I
bring that up because we've been in this scramble mode.
I ran in last second trying to figure out how
to get in the building today, right.
Speaker 6 (46:34):
Because nothing works, Nothing works, access.
Speaker 2 (46:36):
No idea where the damn the stairwell is to walk
up the four flights and yeah, I tell you right now,
I don't think I would have gone to the gym
this morning trying to get my knees back in shape.
I don't think I would have done it if I didn't,
if I had to go up those stairs with the
backpack and everything else.
Speaker 6 (46:50):
But I will say, you have a lot less hitch
in your gidde up.
Speaker 2 (46:52):
Yeah, no, I'm you're getting there. I'm busting my ass
right now. Is at the gym at seven in the
morning today, Like I'm again not knowing we'd be doing
air climb like going up the space needle today, but
I didn't get a chance to catch up. I've been
gone for a week. I haven't seen you for like
two weeks, I know, and then you were gone. So yeah,
how you doing.
Speaker 5 (47:11):
I'm great. I told Jack this morning. I actually learned
that you could sunburn your actual eyeballs. So I did
that because you get a lot of sun. I was also,
I mean, I was lathering up like crazy. But it's
gonna happen. Yes, the sun's coming, and.
Speaker 4 (47:26):
I we we're pretty fair skinned, Yes I am.
Speaker 6 (47:28):
I tan, I do tan, but I absorb a lot
of sun too.
Speaker 5 (47:33):
Anyway, I went to Kawhai in Hawaii and I went
on a whale watch, which is like.
Speaker 6 (47:39):
The biggest thing I wanted to do well.
Speaker 4 (47:40):
Kind of whales hunp ecks.
Speaker 5 (47:41):
It's their breeding season, so they come to the warmer waters.
So I am like a human golden retriever on that wrap.
It was a brath that we went on. Wow, and
eyes wide open, no sunglasses. It was we're zooming, so
you couldn't even wear a hat unless you had it
strapped to you. So my eye is We're just wide
(48:01):
open the whole time. And later on that day, I'm like,
why are my eyes just watering? And I looked in
the mirror and I thought I got sunscreen in them
or something, So I washed my face again.
Speaker 6 (48:13):
My eyes were as red as that iHeart.
Speaker 5 (48:15):
We scream behind you, and I'm like, I don't even
think they're gonna let me on the plane.
Speaker 4 (48:18):
Look, well, it's good to have you back.
Speaker 6 (48:21):
Good anyway, it was lovely.
Speaker 4 (48:23):
Okay, well, good to have you back.
Speaker 2 (48:24):
We're gonna next week we're gonna kind of get into
our NFL draft stuff kind of full force, I think,
and start with kind of working at all the details.
We get Cosell on and rang back on and I think,
hopefully Palasolo and stuff like that, so we'll kind of
get that going as well.
Speaker 4 (48:39):
But yeah, it's uh, kind of in that weird time.
Speaker 2 (48:42):
Of the year where you know, baseball sort of starting
and once once pitchers and catchers report and you have
that first Cactus League game, now you're kind of in
the mode of let's just get to back, let's just
get to the regular season, and it starts early this year.
End of March, we're just what probably a month and
three days away from the start of the baseball from
opening day. We've also got March Madness here in a
couple weeks. We're basically twenty days away from having a
(49:05):
bracket in front of us.
Speaker 6 (49:06):
Oh my, oh my gosh, I can hear Gary Parish already.
Speaker 2 (49:10):
Yeah, we had a good time with Gary on Thursday.
He'll be with us this Thursday as well, and so
we're kind And then the Kraken have a trade deadline
coming up on March seventh, which is a week from Friday.
Wouldn't be surprised if stuff happens before then, but there's
gonna be some things happening. They've got a lot going on.
I didn't do a daily power play today, but if
we did. It's brought to you by our good friends
at Isakuahanda Caboda. Just a real quick shout out Alice Steshka.
(49:34):
Steska got to start last night, twenty eight year old rookie,
first ever start in the National Hockey League and goal.
They were playing the second half of the back to
back they tough sledding go to Tampa first game ever
in the NHL. You're playing against Tampa Bay Lightning and
basically seven guys that played in the Four Nations Faceoff tournament.
One guy that didn't is named Kucharov, who because his
(49:54):
country wasn't invited because of political.
Speaker 4 (49:57):
Issues and things. He was well rested.
Speaker 2 (49:59):
The first shot this kid ever saw in the National
Hockey League is Koutrov walking in from the top of
the right circle. But he made a save. Played really
well last night, got sent back down today. They brought
the young kid Coco, kind of a paper move. There's
some waiver money and different things that have to go on,
so Joey's probably gonna play for well. Interesting Grubauer didn't
come up. He's still down there. He let in a
couple bad ones yesterday for Coachella Valley. So I don't
(50:21):
know what's going on there, So it could be a
very active next couple of weeks or so for the crack,
and we'll see they're on the outside, very much on
the outside looking in.
Speaker 4 (50:31):
I mentioned this on on Blue Sky Today. I didn't
do it on the Twitter. I mentioned this on the
Blue Skuy today.
Speaker 2 (50:38):
The difference in this this is like every sport, and
I'm gonna come back to something in the second, with
all of our sports in this in this state right now, the.
Speaker 4 (50:46):
Difference between winning and losing.
Speaker 2 (50:47):
Sometimes it's obvious, like teams just aren't good enough and
they're missing like big pieces. Like if you watch the NFL,
you can say, yeah, that team's a long ways away.
I think we watched the NFL and watch the Seahawks
here and say they're probably not. I mean the debate
between Chris Kid and New Guy today Mark James aside
about Gino Boenicks and all that. Probably safe to say
(51:08):
that the Seahawks aren't that far away.
Speaker 4 (51:11):
Now.
Speaker 2 (51:12):
They're not at the Eagles level, but they're probably not
that far away. They've got some really nice pieces in place.
The Mariners have some really nice pieces in place, obviously
the pitching staff, but I think when you go Cal Rowley,
Julio Rodriguez, I like Luke Railey a lot if the
two corner outfielders, and we played the game, the IF
game last week with John Lund if IF. But they
have some good pieces in place right and along the way,
(51:34):
so all those things are happening. The Crack can do
the same way. The Crack can have some really good pieces,
but they are missing like a true aircraft carrier, a
couple of guys that can really finish in score, not
finish as in terms of Fins. They got two of those,
tolen In and Cocko, but Finns finish in terms of
guys that can finish and score and the best example.
(51:56):
And when they don't make the playoffs this season, we'll
see how many points they miss it by. But they
are zero to nine in the second half of back
to back games this year. Yeah, so if you just
think about that for a second, they're basically nine ten
to eleven points depending on the day in the time.
Speaker 4 (52:14):
Out of a playoff spot.
Speaker 2 (52:17):
Eighteen points is what they've left on the table with
those nine losses. Even if you go four and five, Jess,
go four and five, right, You're still not great in
the second half of back to backs. But you're just
you know, you're below five hundred. But if you that's
eight points, you're one point out a playoff spot. Right now,
they have their inability to win a game in the
(52:40):
second half of a back to back and frankly even
score most of the time. They scored yesterday the one goal,
but they're averaging just over a goal of game in
those second half of back to backs and they've been
shut out three times in the second half of back
to backs. They're non competitive in the second half of
back to backs. That's why they won't make the playoffs.
That is why, Like you can look at a lot
of different things. We get a check on last week.
(53:00):
He crushed the power play and the power play. Yeah,
they scored on Saturday, but buy and large hasn't been good.
In fact, they were minus one yesterday the only power
play they had they gave up the shorthanded goal. But
not winning on the second half of back to backs.
But teams feel like they're close.
Speaker 6 (53:15):
Why do you think that is?
Speaker 5 (53:16):
What do you think the issue is there? I mean,
the other other teams have to do back to backs
all season two.
Speaker 2 (53:22):
There here's I don't know because they're I don't want
to just beat the hell out of the hockey team
I worked for. But they're on the vert if they
if they don't win, they have three back to backs left.
Uh and if they don't win any of those games,
are going to tie a record for the worst record
in the history of the NHL.
Speaker 4 (53:41):
In terms of back to backs.
Speaker 6 (53:43):
Yeah, I'm just getting.
Speaker 2 (53:44):
Only one team. One team win oh and twelve. There's
only one team that's gonna win twelve.
Speaker 5 (53:46):
Ever, Yeah, I just since you're you know so much
more about hockey than I do, what you think that
the actual issue of playing those back to.
Speaker 2 (53:55):
Backs sometimes it's who you play, like Tampa's Tampa's hard,
but when you play they've played teams that aren't good
and they've lost, So it's they just I don't know,
there's and they're oftentimes just non competitive in those. So again,
if it was a lot of teams are below five
hundred and second half of back to backs, but to
(54:15):
be historically bad like they are. Again, they have the
second worst record in back to backs in the history
of the NHL at oh to nine. And if they
win lose the next three, they'll have the they'll tie
for the worst. So that's there's a lot of there's
a lot of issues there. I bring all that up
because of this. I we'll probably get more of this
as a week goes on. We are My buddy John
(54:36):
Bryant at nola I today sent me a note this morning.
In fact, I woke up to it this morning. He's
must be up making beer very early in the morning,
and yeah, exactly. It says Steelhorse. We ride a community
with courageous spirit and fortitude. He says, it's been a
tough year for Washington sports and pro and college levels,
but we will press on. And I said, yeah, you
(54:58):
know what, You're right, it has been a tough year.
He's they're in the shadow of Gonzaga. Gonzaga got smoked
at home the other night after they smoked Wazoo on Wednesday.
But Gonzaga is having a down year by their standards.
They're not quite a bubble team, but they're flirting with
that a little bit, which is rare for them. Well,
they've been to the Sweet Sixteen eight years in a row, right, Yeah,
(55:20):
so very rare. And they've been in the playoffs or
the tournament twenty plus years in a Row. I mean, yeah,
so they're having a really down year. Our two basketball
teams not named Gonzaga in the state that we most
of us carry about Washington, Washington State. Washington's abysmal. They
are now dead last in the Big Ten Conference. They
are eighteenth out of eighteen in conference play. They are
(55:43):
two games out of qualifying for the Big Ten Tournament.
In the top fifteen make it the bottom three, don't.
Speaker 6 (55:50):
Yeah, that's what happens when you have a bazillion team conference.
Speaker 2 (55:52):
Exactly, and they have this fifteen team tournament where the
top whatever get double buys into the quarterfinals, kind of
like the WCC does the smaller conference. But Washington is
very much in danger after blowing the lead, a big
lead against Iowa on Saturday, They're very much in danger
missing the Big Ten Tournament. Danny Sprinkle's first year a
team that frankly, they paid some money for great Osa
(56:14):
bor we all, we all know the numbers. He's a
two million dollar player by all accounts. You know their
zoom Diallo is getting paid a lot of nil money
and you know what worth every penny of it, Like
he's worth it. He's a good player, really good player.
But nothing around it. They lose the Rutgers last week.
Rutgers is a great example of the nil world. And
I will like, they have two guys will be drafted
(56:34):
in the top five in the NBA draft and nobody else.
Speaker 5 (56:38):
Yeah, I mean that's the thing though. With basketball, you
can buy two players.
Speaker 2 (56:43):
You can buy two players. Wazoo is they have so
many issues. David Riley went from being a coach that
Wazoo fans were worried they were going to lose after
one year, to a bigger program to go somewhere else.
They had a multiple Quad one wins. They were ahead
of last year's tournament team's pace in terms of Quad
(57:04):
one wins getting to the tournament.
Speaker 4 (57:06):
They were well on their way to the tournament.
Speaker 2 (57:08):
And they have just fallen apart, not just because their
best player got hurting is out for the year, and
not just because some other They have fallen apart. He
looks like a coach. It's over is basically over his
skis and outmatched. The team looks the same, and so
they're a disaster. They embarrassed themselves before the biggest crowd
(57:28):
in Beasley Coliseum in the last three decades. Embarrassed themselves
and then they followed up with even a more embarrassing
effort on Saturday against Saint Mary's in which they gave
up over one hundred points. Just an absolutely quit.
Speaker 4 (57:42):
They quit. There's no other way to put it. They quit.
Speaker 2 (57:45):
There's so football team missed the playoffs again, second era.
ROW hockey team's gonna miss the playoffs for the second
year in row. Washington's gonna go yet again without getting
the NCAA tournament, and the Coups are gonna follow up
a tournament appearance last year in basketball without going to
the tournament and being in the bottom third of the
damn WCC. Meanwhile, Wazoo football fell apart at the end
(58:07):
of the year. In Washington football, yeah, I was a
rebuild without Kalin Debourne, without all those guys, But they
didn't have a very good season either.
Speaker 4 (58:13):
You know what we're doing now.
Speaker 2 (58:14):
We are putting all our eggs in one basket, and
that basket is called Los Marinaros.
Speaker 3 (58:19):
Let's go.
Speaker 2 (58:21):
We are We have never not since probably two thousand
and eight, we have not needed the Mariners more than
we need them right now. In two thousand and eight,
they were awfully fired the manager part with the season,
but we need the Mariners like we need them are
as John said today. You know, been a tough year.
(58:44):
We press on, Yes we do, we will press on,
but we need our baseball team to actually step it up.
Speaker 4 (58:51):
How terrifying is that?
Speaker 6 (58:52):
Well, I mean the price of eggs are terrifying right now.
So if we got them all in one basket.
Speaker 2 (58:56):
If you can even find eggs to put in the baskets,
god speed to you. But yes, all our eggs in
the Mariners basket right now, because you're right, you're so
m I woke up. I woke up and I saw
that text from John and again John Brian from Nolai.
He brings us Scary Parrish every Thursday. No, I brilliant
look from your grocery store. Is great stuff, good people
over there. He's like, yeah, I mean, and it's right
(59:17):
all like we're just in this malaise. The eight will
never be topped, thankfully the Seahawks, they didn't make the playoffs,
but they had a winning record.
Speaker 4 (59:28):
Does it matter? I don't think so. It's nice.
Speaker 2 (59:30):
Jerry Depotle thinks it's great. I don't think it's great.
Making the playoffs is what you want to be. But
two years ago, not making the postseason, not winning a
playoff game since twenty nineteen.
Speaker 4 (59:39):
Yeah, they're in a little bit of a slump. Sounders
even let's bring them into the mix.
Speaker 5 (59:43):
Vers.
Speaker 6 (59:43):
So gosh, I hope okay, Jackson, I know is in another.
Speaker 2 (59:46):
You're winning that game two to one, you give up
an old goal in the ninety second minute in your
opener after Jordan Morris breaks the record for most goals
in franchise history and dominates that game. That's our That
is twenty twenty four, twenty twenty five in a nutshell
is probably what happened with Sounders on Saturday night. That's
where we're so. We need the baseball team. Hey, John, Jerry, justin,
(01:00:11):
Danny gar everyone, we need you, We need you, we
need you. We need a little pick me up here,
need a little pick me up. Need it from the mirrors.
Don't hold your breath, but we need it from the mirrors.
Speaker 6 (01:00:25):
I was actually holding my breath when you said that.
Speaker 4 (01:00:26):
Oh God, you are so right.
Speaker 6 (01:00:29):
I didn't think about that, but I said it the other.
Speaker 5 (01:00:31):
Week where I was I kind of said, well, we're
always we're almost trained to expect something bad to happen
because Seattle gets punched in the gut.
Speaker 6 (01:00:41):
Oh wait, it was before home crin.
Speaker 4 (01:00:43):
Oh really, it was before the Hall of Fame vote. God,
I didn't think about it.
Speaker 5 (01:00:47):
I was like, we were all so sure, and then
I said, you know what, I understand why people have
cautious optimism because Seattle gets smacked.
Speaker 4 (01:00:58):
Get we're getting We're getting around right now. There's no
doubt about that.
Speaker 6 (01:01:02):
Yes, and you know where there's only to go from here,
up up, eggs.
Speaker 4 (01:01:08):
Up, up, just like eggs hoping they come down and pray.
There you go.
Speaker 7 (01:01:12):
You can.
Speaker 2 (01:01:12):
God, there's one on Isaka Hobart Road. I drove by
the other day and but you have to pre order,
and the line was all the way out to the street.
Speaker 4 (01:01:19):
It was crazy. Yeah, people are just desperate right now.
Speaker 2 (01:01:21):
Okay, It's like it's like toilet paper back in two
thousand and toilet paper and paper towels.
Speaker 4 (01:01:26):
We're desperate. It's this thing on.
Speaker 3 (01:01:32):
Hello, Hello, Why is the power out in the studio?
Speaker 2 (01:01:36):
Man?
Speaker 3 (01:01:36):
What'd you do?
Speaker 4 (01:01:38):
New guy?
Speaker 3 (01:01:38):
Did it you ever pull a fire alarm? And like
high school or junior.
Speaker 2 (01:01:41):
High, No, you obviously did. If you said that, if
you asked that question, the answer is you obviously didn't know.
Is that a matter of public record? Well, I think
the statue limitations is okay. Now you're fifty years old,
so yeah, I make you're okay.
Speaker 3 (01:01:57):
Now, some stuff just stays with your pal.
Speaker 2 (01:01:59):
If you do it in middle school or high school,
like herpes, high school or middle school, didn't you do
I don't remember.
Speaker 3 (01:02:06):
I don't remember.
Speaker 12 (01:02:07):
There's a lot of stuff I've done that I've just
blocked out of my mind. I mean, I've thought about
that many many times before. Jed actually Jackson and I
Dick may have been there too. We had a conversation
about how many people and are we among these people
have just done terrible, terrible things, but have just found
a way to just give themselves.
Speaker 3 (01:02:24):
Like a lobotomy.
Speaker 4 (01:02:25):
You have no idea, no idea Like O. J.
Speaker 3 (01:02:28):
Simpson. You know, maybe he was truly convinced that he
did not kill those people.
Speaker 4 (01:02:32):
How could you be convinced you didn't kill somebody?
Speaker 3 (01:02:34):
Well, if you tell yourself that every single day, you're
obviously over and over and over.
Speaker 4 (01:02:38):
I mean, you're crazy because you did it. But I
mean maybe you do. I don't know.
Speaker 12 (01:02:41):
I mean, there's a chance that you've done something pretty bad.
Probably don't know about it.
Speaker 6 (01:02:46):
Why is this like rattling around in your head.
Speaker 4 (01:02:48):
Well, we're just talking about the fact that powers are
going out. Power going Now the new guy, the new
guy broke the station. That's what happened.
Speaker 3 (01:02:56):
Yeah, it's you know, typical. I've heard everywhere he goes
that's what happens.
Speaker 4 (01:03:00):
Just he broke the stations. What ended up happening?
Speaker 3 (01:03:02):
Trail of nonsense and crap behind.
Speaker 2 (01:03:04):
It's old school. It's old school radio today. Remember back
in the day, we're doing sports ready without the internet.
We just there's no such thing as the internet back
when we started doing this.
Speaker 3 (01:03:12):
But you can use your cell phone to go online.
Speaker 4 (01:03:15):
Have you tried. Have you tried using a cell phone
in this building?
Speaker 3 (01:03:19):
It actually works? Okay for me? Does it?
Speaker 4 (01:03:21):
I've tried. I tried calling Jess earlier, like three times,
and it went right to her voicemail.
Speaker 3 (01:03:25):
That's because she's ignoring you.
Speaker 4 (01:03:26):
Oh you know what, good point.
Speaker 12 (01:03:27):
Wait a minute, yeah, wait a second, nothing, nothing that
got hurt sending voicemail.
Speaker 4 (01:03:35):
Here's how it works.
Speaker 3 (01:03:36):
Is I do that to her.
Speaker 4 (01:03:37):
She doesn't do that to me of the time. Yes,
not all the time, but a good portion of the time.
Speaker 6 (01:03:43):
When you pick up, I'm like, oh my god.
Speaker 3 (01:03:45):
See, by the way, do you watch Land Man? I
need to?
Speaker 4 (01:03:49):
I need to, don't I heard wat.
Speaker 6 (01:03:53):
I've never seen it. I don't even know what it is.
Speaker 4 (01:03:54):
Pera mont plus right.
Speaker 3 (01:03:56):
Yeah, yeah, I'd make a reference, and you guys wouldn't
get it.
Speaker 4 (01:03:58):
Okay, well, we don't get a reference when making movie references.
Speaker 12 (01:04:01):
Well, but for those who watch Man, just Tallie Larder
calls Billy Bob Thornton on FaceTime and the ringer that
he's got on his phone and people are laughing right now,
know what I'm talking about?
Speaker 3 (01:04:11):
Wait, Ali Larson, Oh dude, Okay, she still got it?
Speaker 5 (01:04:14):
Man?
Speaker 3 (01:04:14):
Does she?
Speaker 4 (01:04:15):
Okay?
Speaker 3 (01:04:15):
Oh yeah, okay, I still got it.
Speaker 4 (01:04:17):
If I have power later tonight, I might subscribe.
Speaker 3 (01:04:20):
She's got it, the daughter's got it. They all got it.
Speaker 4 (01:04:22):
But uh, she's the mom. She's the mom.
Speaker 3 (01:04:24):
She is the dude. She's like our age.
Speaker 4 (01:04:27):
I'm kidding me, Like, I don't like to think of
that though.
Speaker 3 (01:04:33):
I like to think. There is forty eight years old. Wow,
she'll be forty nine and four days.
Speaker 4 (01:04:38):
Wait, how old forty eight?
Speaker 3 (01:04:40):
Oh?
Speaker 4 (01:04:40):
Okay, but she'll be how old ninety's.
Speaker 2 (01:04:44):
That's six years more than forty one. I don't know
if Actually I don't think thing's gonna work today, to be.
Speaker 12 (01:04:49):
Honest, I have it now. It's waiting to reconnect. Yeah,
the endpoint has disconnected. Your session will resume as soon as.
Speaker 3 (01:04:57):
I heeart media can restore the power.
Speaker 2 (01:04:59):
I just I think I think Marty Seely didn't pay
the city late bill or something, you know, or this
might be a Bruce Harrold getting back at us for
bashingham last nark.
Speaker 3 (01:05:07):
What was your take on that whole thing. By the way,
I think.
Speaker 2 (01:05:09):
He's an idiot, just an absolute moron, just an absolute.
Speaker 3 (01:05:15):
Absolutely that he's not a moron, but it was a
moronic thing to do.
Speaker 4 (01:05:19):
No, no, okay, I mean he's on the city. He
was part of the city council, the voting for them
to leave.
Speaker 3 (01:05:24):
Yeah, but didn't vote for them to stay.
Speaker 2 (01:05:25):
They voted unanimous. They said two people might have dissented,
but in the end it was a unanimous vote.
Speaker 3 (01:05:29):
So you tell me is a sports fan, he's a basketball.
Speaker 2 (01:05:32):
Bruce is a god. No, he's a politician. He is
a politician that is going to do a victory lap
when they come back. Did you hear that did you
hear the other part of the story. Oh, I was,
Oh god, you know, I was waiting to talk to
you about this, so so I forgot about this.
Speaker 3 (01:05:48):
Damn it. It's like Tommy boy, what'd you do? Man?
Speaker 5 (01:05:51):
No?
Speaker 2 (01:05:51):
So, so Chris Daniels is on with a new guy,
with new guy Mark Yeah, and he just kind of
he kind of slid slides this in here. He says, well,
you know, Howard Sholt and his wife, through their foundation,
they made a big donation to the high School Memorial
Stadium Seattle Center project. Okay, and then he says that
oak fuse behind and he says, you know, really wouldn't
(01:06:12):
surprise me if maybe he's going to be part of
the NBA group as a minority owner.
Speaker 4 (01:06:18):
Okay, I'm walking away. I'll just I'll let you take
it from here.
Speaker 6 (01:06:20):
Why do you do this?
Speaker 3 (01:06:22):
We don't need him.
Speaker 4 (01:06:24):
I'm just I'm just, I mean, I'm just I'm Daniels and.
Speaker 12 (01:06:28):
Todd Lwiki and Tim Lwiki went to Howard and said, look, man,
you want to make a wrong or right, give us
five billion dollars to buy a basket.
Speaker 2 (01:06:36):
No, no, Dave, that's one thing this is as a
minority I'm going to chip in and I'm gonna be
out there when they throw the ball up in the air.
Speaker 4 (01:06:43):
There he will be at center court.
Speaker 3 (01:06:44):
Yeah, yeah, I don't want a guy around.
Speaker 4 (01:06:47):
Nobody does.
Speaker 3 (01:06:48):
That's just forgivable.
Speaker 2 (01:06:51):
I know you're being remarkably calm about this. I almost
lost my mind. And I and I've been to Starbucks.
Speaker 4 (01:06:56):
You haven't.
Speaker 3 (01:06:57):
I don't know what to tell you.
Speaker 12 (01:06:58):
I I I don't want the guy around. I don't
know how much more clear I can make it. I
want the guy step in foot inside that new arena.
I don't want to drink his coffee, and I want
to look at his face, and I want to say
his name. I don't want to hear his name. I
don't want to even sign language his name.
Speaker 2 (01:07:14):
Fans, we want to direct your attention to center court
with them, the ownership group for your Seattle SuperSonics, says again, Sam.
Speaker 3 (01:07:21):
Hall, his ass off, Andy Jasse and Howard Schultz, Right, yeah,
I forget it. Yeah, ridiculous.
Speaker 12 (01:07:28):
I mean, he's got a lot of guts if he
shows up to a basketball game. I'll tell you that
right now, a lot of guts. Because the NBA is
not like the NFL. Well, I guess we're gonna I
guess there are sweets that Climate Pledge Arena.
Speaker 4 (01:07:40):
Yeah, get cozy up to, but you'll be walking around
in the eye.
Speaker 12 (01:07:43):
Is he gonna take his customary court side seat like
he did at the Sonic Games back of Key Arena?
If he does, he'll get hammered by everybody, and he
should be hammered. He's the He is the biggest villain
in Seattle sports history, number one. If we were to
do a mount Rushmore, which I hate that crap. It's
such a stupid, lazy sports talk narrative. Mariners are fifteen
(01:08:05):
games out. Let's do a mount Rushmore of villains in Seattle.
But if we did one, he'd be number one, number one.
Speaker 3 (01:08:10):
You'd get the.
Speaker 12 (01:08:11):
Who's got the biggest head of all the four presidents? Jess,
who's got the biggest head on that on that mountain?
Speaker 3 (01:08:17):
It's on?
Speaker 5 (01:08:19):
Is it?
Speaker 3 (01:08:19):
GW?
Speaker 6 (01:08:20):
I don't know. I've seen it in person, but I
can't measure it.
Speaker 3 (01:08:22):
Whatever.
Speaker 12 (01:08:23):
Whatever the biggest head is, like I'm talking about, like
you know, Rock mass whatever, he's he's number one, He's
number one by far. So No, I don't want the
guy's face. I don't want his family. I don't want
anybody associated with him or Starbucks anywhere near that arena.
You know what they should do, you know what Todd
should do when the when the basketball teams kind of
comes back. They should give a chance to a local
yokl Ma and Pa coffee shop to provide coffee at
(01:08:47):
the brand new arena. That'd be awesome, that'd be really cool.
I want to be there when he's wandering on the
Sweet Level. You're heading down to the iHeart Suite and
you're wandering on that sweet level and he's wandering to
wherever he whatever, sweet he's going.
Speaker 3 (01:09:00):
They had to I'll give them versus the Oregon Faint and.
Speaker 4 (01:09:04):
You two cross paths. I can't wait for that to happen.
Speaker 12 (01:09:07):
All sick of last Woodward on him, like she went
after him a costco.
Speaker 4 (01:09:11):
Yeah, the book signing, Yeah, yeah she was. She was
started out of there.
Speaker 12 (01:09:16):
That's the day I realized I was scared out of
my mind.
Speaker 3 (01:09:19):
Of at least what she just became.
Speaker 6 (01:09:21):
Even more.
Speaker 3 (01:09:22):
But I did not know that.
Speaker 2 (01:09:24):
Hey, I was sitting with her in the T mobile
press box. Yeah, when we were still doing the Night
Show and he had the stones to sit down right
in the in the seats right behind the Mariner's dugout,
and she spotted him and she tried to get down
there to him. She never got there because we're all
sitting in the press box watching. I think somebody like
hold security and the intercepted her.
Speaker 3 (01:09:45):
Queen Bee, pull it out of your socks.
Speaker 4 (01:09:48):
All right, what are you doing today, fella?
Speaker 3 (01:09:50):
Let's see what's today? Monday?
Speaker 12 (01:09:51):
Monday you the Mike the Corsey segment, talking some college
basketball with Mike at five o'clock, a little more four
with Hugh today at four o'clock, and then Chuck's gonna
jump on at six after his nine hour nap and
recap his trip down to Arizona Fororus at six pm tonight.
Speaker 4 (01:10:07):
All right, all right, I see for the mild mannered
and marginally objectionable e Inverness this paddle day, saying so
long everyone,
