Speaker 1 (00:00):
We're gonna get Steve Palozolo's gonna join us at one
twenty today, so we will talk to some Seahawk football.
I don't want to do that in the first segment though,
so we'll get to that though with Steve Cooper cup
wide receiver discussion. Two o'clock today. John Lund is going
to join us from the Bay Area. We'll talk more
football and Opening Day and all that. I put up
and I don't do this often. I put up a
Twitter poll just a short time ago. I did well.
(00:22):
I had. I was listening to the Afternoon show Dick
and Dave, David Dick something like that. Yeah, listen, yeah,
d D D d D and D show. I was
listening to those guys yesterday and you know, and there's
a promo actually running now. I just heard from with Fame.
You know, it's the greatest time of the year. Blah
blah blah. I would I would take it a step further.
(00:44):
I don't the when I say take it a step further,
I would say this. I think it's been It's a
great three weeks coming up. We've got March Madness this weekend,
Opening Day next Thursday, with the second round of March
Madness and and baseball then underway. Yes, you've got the
Masters coming up after the for it was the second
(01:05):
weekend in April. But then we also have a little
thing called Stanley Cup and NBA Playoffs. Like we're we're
starting a stretch that gets us out of the doldrums
of the winter months. As a sports fan. It's a glorious,
glorious time of the year. It really is. But I
put this pull up because I am curious. I mean,
we spend on this show more time than probably anybody else.
(01:27):
New Guy kind of trying to chase us down a
little bit with our college basketball. But yeah, mostly because
we mostly because we have Gary on and he's so
good and I think even if you're not a huge
college basketball fan, he's still compelling. Radio is a fun
guy that fun guests to have on. We love having
Gary on Parish from CBS Sports. But the brackets are out.
I was with my buddies last night. We do a
draft where we draft teams for March Madness and based
(01:49):
on the number of wins and get to the final
four and all that. You guys are now involved in
our survivor pool. Both of you.
Speaker 2 (01:56):
Still trying to figure that out.
Speaker 1 (01:57):
I'll explain again in a second. Okay, I already explained
to Anders. I could have just screwed Anders old could
let them just be done after day, like the first
half hour.
Speaker 3 (02:06):
I'm just excited about it. But it's a new way
of playing.
Speaker 1 (02:10):
And then of course the brackets. So again we mentioned
our bracket challenge at night three three kids dot com.
But you know, most people have their own brackets, and like,
let's let's all be adults here. Most people have their
own brackets and group of friends that do it, and
they pay money and they win money. That's how it works.
I'm sorry, State of Washington. I know you want your cut.
You're gonna chase everybody down, blah blah blah. Listen, if
you're gonna let people walk around the streets doing drugs,
I don't think you're gonna worry about people doing brackets,
(02:31):
all right, So let's just move on from then we'll
just worry.
Speaker 2 (02:33):
Okay, we'll just say that we play for pride. How
about that.
Speaker 1 (02:35):
I don't care. We pay for money. That's what we
play for. That's exactly what we pay play for. Everyone does.
Let's sports.
Speaker 4 (02:42):
And then we'll talk yeah, yeah.
Speaker 1 (02:44):
Well we do which I can't wait. I'm I might.
I might dabble in new guys parlay when we're still calmed.
Speaker 5 (02:53):
See.
Speaker 1 (02:53):
I don't know if I like. I don't know if
like it's the right word. But I may throw a
few shekels down to see and you go. And then
if I don't in that, I can just hackle him forever.
Speaker 6 (03:02):
He's hanging out in the studio, but he can't hear
you because just as mic is one.
Speaker 1 (03:07):
All right, No, I may I may try new guys
his parlay tomorrow, Mark, I may try it tomorrow. I
may give it a go. It's still call me casino.
If I win, massive bonus for me. If I lose,
I can just hackle you forever. That's what I'll do.
But but yeah, but it's a great time of the
year because of all the sports going on. But here's
the poll I put up just for fun. I said,
(03:29):
what are you doing for March Madness? Are you doing
one bracket? Multiple brackets? Bracket and other things?
Speaker 7 (03:35):
I e.
Speaker 1 (03:36):
Survivor pool draft, whatever, there's other opportunities, maybe just going
too Sot'll call me Casino or one of the other
casinos that we're partners with, or he's waiting for opening day,
so you can weigh in. Go to my Twitter handle
It's E and D Finess on x dot com Twitter,
what have you and you can vote. So it's one bracket,
multiple brackets, bracket and other things. Or waiting for opening day?
(03:58):
Is marking there with us? Can he? Very well? Sir?
How are you all right? I'll let you weigh in
before you head out of there? What do you do
for March madis one bracket, multiple brackets, bracket and other things?
What do you do? Well?
Speaker 8 (04:09):
I have a lot of other bets going on, but
I think you can only do I mean, listen. If
you want to submit multiple brackets and give your chances
to win, that's fine. That's why I'm hedging. I'm gonna
go today because as strongly as I feel with the
Houston Cougar's cutting down the nets, I feel almost equally
strong on the Florida Gators. I think they're going to
face each other in the national titles, so so I
(04:29):
don't have an issue with that. And yeah, I put
up my six bet parlay that's up there right there
in the in the first round. So Softy just texted
me that parlay. The parlay seems like a lot of
work for three hundred dollars. Yeah, you're not wrong, you're
not wrong, Softy. And it's six teams, which doesn't you know,
but it doesn't matter. It's still three hundred bucks, Bundy.
And here's the thing, though, I also did a two
(04:50):
lake parlay a Softy and Mayor. I did a two
lake parlay on Saint John's minds eighteen and a half
mcneee plus seven and a half. And the fact that
Dick Faine so Clemson makes me feel all the more
confident that it should be is going.
Speaker 1 (05:05):
To so so you do, you'll do like one bracket
or one bracket and then I say bracket and other things,
which is what you just described better things right away
to casino. Actually I need if you want to, if
i'll sudden you a little even if you want to
get in a bracket, all right, so I'll send that
to you to new guys. Well all right, so all right,
that's Mark Jeff. You I know are bracket and other
things because you're involved in other things. Because yes, Andrews,
(05:28):
you're the same, yep, I am. The more the merrier man,
whether it's whether it's mark six team paro six game parway,
which I don't know. Three hundred dollars is better than no.
One hundred dollars, but hold on softy.
Speaker 8 (05:40):
Also, also, I want to just tell you I have
major Like, like I said, I have future bets on
if Houston wins like the national title. No, but listen,
if they win it all, I'm going to get a
nice four to five figure payout.
Speaker 1 (05:54):
So you're just a degenerate, which I love. It's awesome, right, fantastic,
That's what I mean.
Speaker 8 (05:59):
Right, And I even did the Alma mater just in case,
you know, going to run and be you know, Ricky
p and Saint John's in the second round in Providence,
I'm like, hey, there's nothing more Ian. We were just
talking about Italian restaurants and Jess knows, as being from
the road, there's nothing more Italian than Patino versus Caliperry
in Providence on Federal Hill in the second round. Oh
(06:20):
my lord, go to at Wells Avenue and just pick
a restaurant and see. You know that's why, you know,
that's why Kansas City is to win that game, because
it's too good a setup.
Speaker 1 (06:29):
Yeah, it's too perfect set.
Speaker 3 (06:30):
So that's that's why I would wear a checker tableclothes.
Speaker 1 (06:36):
All right. That's so that's where we're at. So again,
let's just again everyone, this is why it's fun. See.
The great thing with March Madness is it doesn't take
a lot. You can fill out a bracket, you can
go to a casino, you can have fun. It's it's
basically the fantasy football from March Madness or for college basketball.
Why is the NFL so damn popular is because eighty
percent of the fans, basically everybody not named Softy, they
(07:00):
fantasy football and everyone has Hey.
Speaker 4 (07:02):
Hey, by the way, Ian, I don't either.
Speaker 1 (07:04):
I'm with Softy on that. Okay, what what's wrong with
well you gamble?
Speaker 8 (07:09):
That's say some juice. You still have some juice. By
the way, I'm with Saw. But here's the thing. I
will recognize the fact that it is huge and monumental.
So like I just because I don't do it in Softy,
you just either are a fantasy guy or you're not.
But I have too much stuff going on and teasers
and parlays and other solo bets, you know what I mean.
(07:29):
Like I don't like to wait, Ian, we live in
a an instant gratification world.
Speaker 4 (07:35):
I like to win.
Speaker 8 (07:36):
I want to know within two and a half three hours,
or college football game three and a half four hours,
whether or not I'm winning money.
Speaker 1 (07:40):
I don't want to wait four months. But the fact
you're still involved is good. And that's why ye march
madness NFL. Whether it's brackets, fantasy football, or other, let's
just call it juice that you have out there. That's
why these things are popular because everyone gets because it's interactive.
It's the one it's it's the two things that you
can be really interactive with. Fantasy Baseball too long a season.
(08:01):
What you just said one hundred percent, like I'm gonna
wait for the end of the week to see if
I won a game. Like, no, man, I don't need that. Hockey,
same thing, basketball, NBA, same thing with I've played fantasy everything,
and it's just it's got there's got to be some
instant gratification. I'm with you on that, But I want
you guys to vote on the on the line four
nine four or not fourne four. Well, you can text
it four nine four to five one. Let us know
what you're thinking and what you're doing as well. Also
(08:23):
talkbacks are there for you too. All Right, we got
to take a break. Is Palell's all ready to go out? Jess?
We got that? Or I should call you McIntire.
Speaker 3 (08:30):
Three different times. Missus McIntyre is on top of this stuff.
Speaker 1 (08:33):
Okay, missus McIntyre. All right, Missus McIntyre has that ready. Anders. Uh,
you know how now to play the Survivor pool?
Speaker 5 (08:40):
Right?
Speaker 1 (08:41):
I I schooled you out of cly On. That you understanding,
Thank you, Jess. You know what he's gonna do. He
was gonna pick two teams going head to him.
Speaker 2 (08:48):
Yeah, it made sense before I realized the rules.
Speaker 1 (08:51):
Yeah, it's survivor.
Speaker 4 (08:52):
If a team loses, well, do you have a team
that's surviving still?
Speaker 5 (08:56):
Yeah?
Speaker 1 (08:56):
But but the other team didn't, right, so you're done,
so you have to tea. I am a good guy.
You couldn't easily just said you could. That's great, that's
a great More people.
Speaker 2 (09:08):
Do that logic made sense to me.
Speaker 1 (09:11):
I'm surprised by Buddy Roger doesn't do that. Neighborhood Everybudy Roger.
He is famous for picking the same team at least twice, like,
oh they were great last week. I'll take him.
Speaker 2 (09:21):
I'll take him the swetek that Roger is a fun
guy though.
Speaker 1 (09:24):
Sure, word fun's a good word, all right, paulo'solo talking
all things NFL.
Speaker 9 (09:29):
Next, we're diving into the numbers and the grades around
the NFL with Steve Pelazolo from the thirty third team,
Brought to you by Cascade Ice and Wired CKX three
forty four Energy Drink. Are you looking for a caffeine kick?
Dry or refreshing locally made sixteen out scan of Cascade
(09:49):
Ice sparkling water with one hundred and sixty milligrams of caffeine,
no carb, sugar or sodium. But if you're looking for
more of a kick, grab a locally made can of
wired CKX three forty four Energy drink loaded with three
hundred and forty four milligrams of caffe Now that everyone's wired,
let's get to Steve Pellizolo with the infernets you betcha.
Speaker 1 (10:10):
Let's get to Steve Pelozolo thirty thirteen. Check the mic podcast.
It's fantastic. If you're not checking out, check the mic podcast.
See what I did do you should be doing so
right now. Hello Steve, how are you dealing great?
Speaker 5 (10:22):
Thanks for having me as always.
Speaker 1 (10:24):
We on this show, which ends at three o'clock Pacific time,
have been victims two straight weeks of Seahawks breaking news
on a Friday news dump about oh thirty five, forty
minutes after we're off the air, Gino Smith. Two weeks
ago in come Sam Darnold, and then last Friday we
get off the air, figure, Okay, we're good. And next
thing you know, I'm listening to my afternoon show, my
buddy's Dave and Softy, and they're raving about some Cooper
(10:48):
Cup guy that's coming back home to the state of Washington,
into Seattle. So let's start there. We're gonna talk wide
receivers in the draft in a minute. But what do
you think Seattle's getting? And I guess we would assume
that he's healthy, in a healthy Cooper Cup.
Speaker 7 (11:03):
Yeah, I mean the health is a bit of an
assumption just because he's been banged up the last couple
of years, but that's part of it.
Speaker 5 (11:09):
I think you're getting a guy.
Speaker 7 (11:11):
It sounds crazy because he was just drafted what twenty seventeen,
toward the tail end of his career, beat up the
last couple of years, but I thought Cup would be
a great fit for teams with rookie contract quarterbacks like
Drake May in New England or Jaden Daniels and Washington
before they got Debo, just as a guy to come in,
run routes extremely well, be in the right place, get open,
(11:32):
and just be a QB friendly option. Seattle kind of
swooped in and I think paid him more than some
of those other teams wanted to pay. Obviously they won
the Cooper Cup sweepstakes, but I think that's what Cup
is at this point. There was points in his career.
You know, if you go back and watch the Super
Bowl highlights, he looks pretty explosive, dynamic, really smooth in
and out of breaks.
Speaker 5 (11:52):
He hasn't had that as much the last year year
and a half.
Speaker 7 (11:55):
So that's the one thing to keep an eye on
for Cup is if he's lost a step, you lose
a little bit of the verticality that he brought to
the table as a slot receiver. But he's still excellent
in the short areas, intermediate areas.
Speaker 5 (12:08):
He's got that toughness about him as far.
Speaker 7 (12:10):
As catching the ball over the middle, and it just
has a great feel for the game and he'll be
a nice I'd say possession compliment to to Jackson Smith
and Jigba. Maybe some redundancy there with both guys doing
great work out of a slot, but you know, he'll
be a QB friendly possession type of option.
Speaker 1 (12:28):
For Sam Donald, they had those like tight splits, did
they not in it with the rams like it was
he's in the slot. But both receivers sometimes looked like
they were slot receivers almost just you know, a couple
of paces to the to the outside of of a
tight of a tackle. So you know, I don't know
that that's an interesting thing because JSN you would think
is a slot guy as well. Right, So is there
(12:48):
how much redundancy is there with those two?
Speaker 5 (12:51):
There's there's a little bit.
Speaker 7 (12:52):
I mean, it's it's not like what Seattle had previously
with you know, DK and Lockett and then DK and JSN,
where you say, okay, we know what DK met CAF
brings to the table.
Speaker 5 (13:00):
It's very specific. It's it's more vertical.
Speaker 7 (13:03):
And then you know Lockett was a pure outside receiver
and JSN was kind of inside outside and can do
it all.
Speaker 5 (13:09):
And so there's a little bit of.
Speaker 7 (13:11):
Redundancy here, I think with Cupp and JSN and I
think that makes the next receiver option besides Marcos Veldez, Scantlin,
makes that next guy interesting to see if they get
a different type of skill set in there. So I
think there's some similarities in how the JSN and CUPP
potentially being used.
Speaker 1 (13:27):
Well, let's talk about some of the receivers in the draft,
and I'm gonna skip down a little bit because I
mean there's a couple of guys, I you know, McMillan
from Arizona, Burden from from Missouri are probably going to
go fairly early. I don't think Seattle's going to go
down the receiver route at that point in time. And
I'm kind of looking for bigger guys too for Seattle,
you know that can play that ax maybe. But let
me start with a guy that's a local product. He's
(13:49):
from out here, went to Ohio State, and Mecca Buca
six one two oh five from Ohio State feels like,
you know, it feels like we've been waiting for him
to get the NFL forever because there's been so many
great receivers that have kind of maybe over ship out
him along the ways. But what do you like about Igbuca?
Speaker 7 (14:03):
Yeah, I mean he's a he's a good player, and
I think because of you know, the emergence of of
the stars at Ohio State and you know what they've
had there, maybe going a little under the radar here
heading into the draft, and Buk has been very productive
for the last three years. Good feel for the game.
Another slot type, I would say. And when you say that,
(14:24):
it doesn't mean that they have to live there forever.
It's just where where's their strength. I think he's got
some JSN to his game where it's just knowing where
to be at the right time, setting up setting up
defenders that using, knowing leverage, no wasted steps, you know,
understanding coverages, that type of thing.
Speaker 5 (14:41):
So I think I think at Buk is just a
good solid option.
Speaker 7 (14:44):
Who is you know, probably flying under the radar just
a little bit because of you know, he got phased
out just to touch at Ohio State, made some big
plays down the stretch on the way of the national
title game, but still a very good player.
Speaker 1 (14:57):
Matthew Golden is from Texas, listed around six feet in
about one hundred and ninety five pounds.
Speaker 7 (15:03):
It's one of the more interesting players in the draft
for me because I think when you watched him.
Speaker 5 (15:06):
This is I hate when this happens. When I write
down in my.
Speaker 7 (15:09):
Notes, Yeah, it feels like a four to four guy
in four four five doesn't feel fast, doesn't feel explosive,
and then he goes to the combine and runs four
two nine.
Speaker 5 (15:17):
And I wanted to make sure you know that it
doesn't happen often.
Speaker 7 (15:20):
Usually four to four three players feel like that on film.
And I know, I don't think it's just me. I
think I've talked to other people who agreed. They're like, hey,
this is a he's a good route runner. He sets
up defenders very smooth in and out of his break,
so you kind of trust him in one on one
coverage maybe, but he doesn't feel dynamic, he doesn't feel explosive.
(15:42):
So I take that four two nine in one of
two ways. He's either developed that part of his game.
One of three ways. He's either developed that part of
his game and he's faster now than he was in
the fall, or he's just a great track athlete.
Speaker 5 (15:55):
He did have a great start and he did.
Speaker 7 (15:56):
You know it is a slightly different skill set, or
the fact that you combined the great route running and
the fact that he's fast and say, Okay, there's some
untapped potential here. So Golden's really really interesting. I know
people like Daniel Jeremiah think he could be the first
wide receiver off the board, or at least threatening Ted McMillan,
but wide receiver won I'm not there completely on Golden,
but definitely a fascinating option. And I think a guy
(16:17):
that could play on the outside it would be a
good fit for Seattle.
Speaker 1 (16:20):
Is he Xavier Worthy?
Speaker 7 (16:22):
Like seeah, that's why he doesn't feel like that at all.
I mean Worthy Worthy was into Texas last year. Isaiah
Bond was at Texas this year and he ran four four,
but he felt like the four to two nine guy,
Isaiah Bond, he felt fast. They ran him on the
over routes and the routes where you run the fast guys.
And Xavier Worthy when you're watching him at Texas and
(16:43):
then in Kansas City, he feels fast. I never watched
Golden and felt like he was fast, so I wouldn't.
I mean, he felt like a Romeo Dobbs to me
watching him on film. You know, pretty good route run
areas good at that, you know, solid all around, nothing special,
and then he runs a four two nine.
Speaker 5 (16:58):
So I could be wrong, but I so I just
did not see that on film.
Speaker 1 (17:02):
I hoping I don't Butcher. The Canadian kids name Elick
Aomnor from Stanford, and it's wild because up until this year,
I'm sitting here in a place where I would have
told if there was a draft prospect from Stanford, I
wouldn't we would have known him. They played in the
ACC this season. We have I have no idea, but
he's six to two, looks like he's a guy that
could play X.
Speaker 5 (17:22):
Yeah, he does have that big body type kind of
plays like that.
Speaker 7 (17:24):
He's just inconsistent. I think his big breakout game was
against Colorado a couple of years ago against Travis Hunter
made a lot of big plays. He's it's a consistency
thing with Ao Manor. I think I think it's something
like that. He's he does feel like.
Speaker 5 (17:39):
One of those guys that could play X.
Speaker 1 (17:41):
It is.
Speaker 7 (17:42):
I don't think he's like the other receivers that I
mentioned who have a better feel for getting open and
or more QB friendly. But he's the guy that you know,
you know, makes the spectacular catches, has a great highlight reel,
one handed catches, contested catches, goes up and gets it
at the catch point, has a little bit of juice
and body can role, but inconsistency. So that's the thing
(18:03):
with him, and that's why a lot of these receivers
have a yeah, but in the in their in their game,
which is why we're talking about them as Day two
type of prospects. So that's a main arch for me,
is more outside receiver, inconsistent but can win at the
catch point and do some nice things on the outside.
Speaker 1 (18:19):
All right, Before I get to the next couple of guys,
let me just stop there because you mentioned something I
think is interesting. How would you characterize this wide receiver
class in general? It just generalized.
Speaker 7 (18:28):
So last year it felt like, okay, this thing's super deep, right.
It was there was three elite prospects and then you
throw four in there, and especially in hindsight with Brian
Thomas Junior, but there was three in the top ten,
Brian Thomas Junior in the top twenty, and then there
was a second wave which included Lad McConkie, and it
was like, all right, there's still some really talented players
on day two and three. I would say the year
lacks the top end talent. But it's similar in the
(18:51):
second wave, the Day two Day three players. There's some
players that I really like, you know, let's say picks
picks forty through one hundred, I think they'll there'll be
some receiver value. You could say that every year just
because of the nature of the position, because you're looking
for players to you can ignore some weaknesses for receivers
to you know, maximize their skill set at that position.
But I think it's deep in that second wave, that
(19:12):
Day two, almost in the Day three type of wave.
Speaker 1 (19:15):
Would Jaden Higgins fall from Iowa State fall into that category.
Speaker 7 (19:19):
I think he did, But I'm seeing him with more
first round hype just because there's there's fewer big bodied
X receivers out there, and there's you just don't have
many of them, and so if you're a team like
the Buffalo Bills, maybe they're in the market in the
late first round, I could see Jaden Higgins maybe sneaking
up that high. Especially he's another guy did not feel
(19:39):
terribly fast on film, but you know, felt like a
four or five to five guy for whatever that's worth,
and runs into high four fours.
Speaker 5 (19:45):
But he also sinks his tips really well.
Speaker 7 (19:47):
Gets in and out of breaks, had a really and
then offseason wise, nice Senior Bowl, nice combine. I always
joked that I was at the game when he went
crazy against the University of Cincinnati, so I always you
have to weigh that more in your head if you're
at the game when he does that and he's uncoverable.
But I think I think Hagans is very very good
on the ascent and it definitely I don't think he
(20:08):
gets out of round two, and I think he's gonna
start getting some more Round one type of hype.
Speaker 5 (20:12):
I like Haigans quite a bit.
Speaker 1 (20:13):
Steve Pell's will to Check the Mike podcast thirty thirteen
joining us. I'm gonna guess Jalen Royals from Utah State
might be one of those guys you're referencing.
Speaker 7 (20:21):
Yeah, he's a he's a really good player. I mean
he he was. He had a really nice Senior Bowl.
Another another good route runner in and out of breaks, flexible,
really smooth.
Speaker 5 (20:34):
Style wise.
Speaker 7 (20:35):
I'm starting to hate comps because when you make player comps,
people just picture the entire package of the player. But
I'll say it anyway, reminded me a little bit of
a Mari Cooper in the way. He plays just a
just a smooth style on the field. Did it at
a smaller school at Utah State, but again, good at
the Senior Bowl, really productive, I like, I like Royals
quite a bit. I could see him as a as
(20:56):
another good round two player as well.
Speaker 3 (20:57):
Well.
Speaker 1 (20:58):
The problem with the comps, right, is that that's kind
of our it's our context, right, This is kind of
the context we used to look at. But I'm kind
of with you. I'm gonna ask you about one more
guy than I'll have you give me a couple of
names that might fit Seattle, but you know, we're curious
about our guy out here. Kyle Williams on a Washington State.
I guess he didn't work out at his pro day
on campus, but he had a good combine. It sounds
like good Senior Bowl, that type of thing. So what
do you think about Kyle Williams.
Speaker 5 (21:18):
Yeah, he did have a really nice Senior Bowl.
Speaker 7 (21:19):
My old colleague Mike Renner from CBS Sports now loves
him as one of the sleepers of the draft. I
think from a production standpoint, the question there is, you know,
he's a year five type of breakout. Xavier Laguette was
a first rounder last year from South Carolina, who's similar.
Those players don't always have the best track record. Usually
if it takes you, you know, four or five years
to really make a huge impact at the college level,
(21:41):
it's it's difficult or it doesn't always translate. But I
think he's solid, you know, solid the word that I
used for him. Pretty good at the line of scrimmage,
gifts off press. Don't think he's great at anything else,
but again, solid all around, and I think a good
middle round type of options.
Speaker 1 (21:56):
Wide receiver three, he's w he's a wide receiver three.
Then for a team, yeah, I.
Speaker 7 (22:01):
Think Look every year there are those types of players, right,
I mean wide receiver two, wide receiver three. I would say, yeah,
Williams is a good, solid three type.
Speaker 1 (22:09):
Give me a name or two that would fit what
Seattle needs. Knowing that they've got Cooper Cup and then
they've got JSN obviously Marcus Feldez Scantling as well, but
mostly Cup in JSN, Give me a guy or two
that you think might fit Seattle that you like. Is
one of those Day two or Day three guys you
just mentioned.
Speaker 7 (22:24):
Yeah, I mean the other Iowa State guy, Jalen Nole.
I mean he just grows on me every time I
see him because he's straight lined fast but also quick,
and that's rare. Right when you talk about Xavier Worthy
and his straight line speed, you don't necessarily see the
quicks in and out of breaks as much from Xavier Worthy. Well,
you were the person you saw that from last year,
(22:44):
in particular was Lad McCaughey. And I think Jalen Nole
is the closest thing to mccaukeay as far as that skill.
Of this guy's vertical fast but also horizontally quick in
and out of breaks. So I like Noel. He gets
pigeonholed into a slot guy. Well, I think he can
play on the outside much like a Lad mccauckey, So
I'll keep an.
Speaker 5 (23:03):
Eye on him.
Speaker 7 (23:04):
And then Jack Besh from TCU continues to rise. Of course,
had the brother Duck killed in the terrorist attack in
New Orleans, he goes. Jack goes to the Senior Bowl, wins,
the MVP, gets the game winning catch. Also just had
an outstanding week. No one says a bad word about him,
raving about him from a character perspective, but also a
really good receiver attacks the ball in the air, goes
(23:25):
up and gets it. He's got a lot of fans
I think around the league. So another Day two type
of player that I think can win outside. So I
like Jack Besh and Jalen Nole as other Day two
options who are not just slot players, who I think
could really compliment what Cup and JSM bring to the
table in Seattle.
Speaker 1 (23:41):
What have we got on the Check the Mic podcast
now and coming up all draft?
Speaker 7 (23:46):

Speaker 4 (24:05):

Speaker 7 (24:12):
He's eight hours a week to listen to us ramble

Speaker 5 (24:54):
We got a new.
Speaker 1 (24:55):
Sponsor next week as well. Want that's good. That's a
good that's a good thing. Along the way, all right,
I was gonna do March Madison. Wanna wait for a second.
Speaker 4 (25:05):
Ready to play it?
Speaker 1 (25:05):
I know, I know. How about this? How about we
do a quick daily power play when we come back. Okay,
and then as a little tease ahead to our bracketology
show tomorrow, I'm gonna tell you and this is using
wait for it, wait for it. I'm known for my numbers.
This is going to be using numbers and actual stats.
I'm gonna tell you the most likely upset to happen.
Speaker 2 (25:28):
Whoa, whoa, when did we get smart?
Speaker 1 (25:32):
We didn't, others did. And then you can just take there,
we take their information. So we I mean you and Andrews
baby me. We no, no, but I've got I've got
some numbers. We'll do that quick daily power play and
then a quick little teas ahead, do our bracketology show
tomorrow and your home for March Madness. Nine three point
three KTERFM. Malkin shoots wanted on GOLDI plucks and I start.
Speaker 4 (26:03):
This is the daily power Play Deep Slot one timer McKennon.
Speaker 9 (26:11):
Now, Ian fernez Son Sports Radio ninety three point three.
Speaker 4 (26:17):
We've been waiting for kJ r FM.
Speaker 1 (26:21):
Daily power Play. You're home for the crack at ninety
three point three kJ r f M. And they you're
gonna say to yourself, Ian Anders, who is the daily
power play brought to you by?
Speaker 4 (26:31):
Who is it brought to you by?
Speaker 1 (26:31):
Ian? Well, I'm gonna tell you right now, It's brought
to you by our good friends at It's a Quahonda Campoda.
I just drove by there maybe an hour ago or so,
maybe an hour and a half ago. Nice I drove
by is Quahanta Compota the largest inventory compotattractors and construction
equipment in King County, plus with steel and hont the
power tools. It's a Quahanta Commoda. You're one stop shop
is Quahanta Compotera right off, find that the ex and
(26:52):
fifteen largest inventory of Kamoda equipment in King County. Cracking
tonight taking on the Chicago Blackhawks. Connor Bernard in company
team seats have pretty good success against their seven and
four all time against Chicago. Seattle also trying to do
something and that would be keep their point streak alive
right now. This is this is kind of where we are,
where this team is this season. In points streak, member,
(27:14):
you can have a loser point rather a you know,
overtime or shootout loss point in there still considered a
a point streak. They're sitting at three games right now,
two zero to one. They could get to four games,
which would match their longest point streak of the season
that happened back in early November when things looked a
lot different for this hockey team. Of course, later on,
(27:35):
Jordan Everally gets hurt and Stune gets hurt. Cord gets hurt. Yeah,
Gordon gets hurt here we are today talking about not
being in the postseason. But they'll try to do that
tonight against the Chicago Blackhawks here in Chicago, not here,
but in Chicago, five o'clock, pre game, five point thirty,
drop of the puck, the captain will bring you in here.
I think the captain might end up talking in the
(27:56):
pregame show. What about something we're going to talk about
in the pregame show, and that would be the penalty
kill for your Seattle Cracking. It has been really, really
good lately. In fact, that's the first thing we're gonna
get to in our pregame show on the Crack and
Hockey Network on TV tonight. Their penalty kill has been good.
In fact, it's twelfth on the season right now for
Seatle overall. No, no, I looked the wrong number, my mistake.
(28:19):
It's nineteenth on the season. But it is climbing as
we speak.
Speaker 4 (28:23):
So, yeah, what's there? What is it like a five
game streak? Would there? You haven't a power play.
Speaker 1 (28:27):
Ten of eleven, they've ten of the well, they've stopped
ten of the last eleven, so it's been and they
were perfect against Winnipeg, which is a crazy legal power.
Speaker 4 (28:34):
Play hard to do.
Speaker 1 (28:35):
Yeah, yeah, there were two for two against the Jets
the other night. So there you go. That's your Daily
power Play again, cracking the night five o'clock pre game
the captain will you'll walk in and just absolutely literally
throw Softy in Fane out of the studio, physically throw
them out of the story.
Speaker 4 (28:48):
I wouldn't be surprised if he's not already here. I've
I haven't checked out.
Speaker 3 (28:51):
I feel like he does curls with weights that equal
both soft Indick.
Speaker 1 (28:55):
Probably yeah, probably, yeah. See a gentleman, I need to
get in the network central here. Uh we uh, Network
Central is calling my name here, I am. I need
to be on the air before I connect with Everett
and al from the United Center in Chicago, Illinois, US A.
All right, let's get do it that inside of the
Daily power Play A tesus earlier, I didn't get a
(29:17):
chance to get to him. All right, So we get
the bracket contest. I three three kJ dot com beat
Dick and Softy easy. Uh you know what, I would
think beating Fain would be harder because Softy doesn't care, No,
he doesn't like, he doesn't like bracket prizes. Me Why
does he like he doesn't like brackets, and he doesn't
like fantasy football.
Speaker 4 (29:37):
So hesn't like in sports.
Speaker 1 (29:39):
No, but but no, but he still likes he gambles though,
he's like, I think he's a lot like our guy, new.
Speaker 4 (29:45):
Guy, Our guy guy.
Speaker 1 (29:46):
They don't they yeah, our guy new guy. They don't.
They don't. They don't waste their time with frivolous activities
like the rest of us. They just walk to the
window and throw down hundreds of thousands of dollars. In
bet that's what they do. Wow, at least that much.
Speaker 4 (29:59):
Anyway, money stacks and stack some money?
Speaker 1 (30:01):
All right? Does the filling out your brows?
Speaker 5 (30:03):
Oh?
Speaker 3 (30:04):
Does that count as a stack, because that's why I
have to gamble with a stack of coins, a.
Speaker 1 (30:08):
Stack of coins.
Speaker 4 (30:10):
Don't be that guy or person.
Speaker 3 (30:12):
I should say, no, I wouldn't do that to them.
Speaker 2 (30:15):
Two dollars, all right.
Speaker 1 (30:16):
Two dollars. What are you doing for march madness? Is
the pole question? I put up one bracket forty one percent,
multiple brackets, twenty four percent bracket and other things which
would be you know, gamb you know yes, or survivor
pools what have you? Eight percent? So basically seventy five
seventy four point five percent of you are doing something
with March Madness. So then before we get to Gary
(30:38):
Parrish tomorrow on our Bracketology show, right to my twin
beaks and so call me Casino snol casino dot com
hotel opening up this summer, before we get to that tomorrow.
So first and foremost upsets in March Madness, right, what
would we consider to be an upset? Andrews, what's an
upset in your mind?
Speaker 6 (30:56):
I'd say anything, not twelve and five, but thirteen and
four and more.
Speaker 2 (31:03):
Jess, I'm in that same twelve. I would go with
a twelve upset.
Speaker 4 (31:08):
I think twelve can still not be considered an upset, Okay, So.
Speaker 2 (31:11):
Here for me, I'm twelve twelve is the biggest upset.
Speaker 1 (31:14):
Okay. So here's here's what we to find. What an
actual upset is by This is by definition of most
people in upset is the team is seated at least
five lines worse than the losing team. All right, So
that would mean like, because like an eight nine is
not really an upset, it's not. So the upsets would
be sixteen to one, fifteen to fourteen, three, thirteen, four,
(31:38):
twelve five, eleven six, those are where those would be
defined as true upsets. Okay, because we you know, when
you start getting into you know, the a ten to
four and all that stuff, then it's really it's still
pretty close, right, It's still it's still pretty close. Okay,
So let's let's go down that road. Everyone loves themselves
the twelve seed over the five, right, that's bad that
(32:00):
that's the one that we all we all love. We
all love the twelve versus five seed. And I heard
Mark brought up a stat earlier about the twelve five seeds.
But the most likely upset in terms of frequency and.
Speaker 4 (32:14):
Percentage is what a thirteen four?
Speaker 1 (32:18):
It's an eleven over a six. Okay, it's an eleven
over a six. That has happened thirty nine percent of
the time. Really, so you're a look for your eleven
if you're looking for one, you look for your eleven seeds.
Your eleven seeds over a six seed thirty nine percent
of the time, the twelve over the five thirty five
(32:40):
percent of the time. It's but there's a more frequent
eleven over six than a twelve over five, which kind
of does.
Speaker 2 (32:46):
Make sense, yes, does not yes, yes, yeah.
Speaker 1 (32:49):
They're kind of closer. Uh, thirteen over four that it
happens twenty one point five percent of.
Speaker 2 (32:57):
The time, so forty one still a decent percent.
Speaker 1 (33:00):
Yeah, thirty three times there's been a thirteen over a four,
twenty three times there's been a fourteen over a three.
That's at fourteen percent. And of course we all know
sixteen over one it's only happened twice, and fifteen over
two has happened actually eleven times. That's seven percent. But
that's a stretch. So if you're looking for your upsets, right,
(33:21):
if you're looking for your upsets, and this is basically
since nineteen eighty five when they expanded the field, your
best opportunities are eleven six and twelve five. Both have happened.
Both have happened thirty five and thirty nine percent of
the time. So you've got a decent chance there to
pick the right one, or to pick one. It is
probably a really good chance it's going to happen. After that,
(33:42):
it drops off dramatically. If you want to be the
smartest guy in the room and say that you've got
a fourteen over a three, well know that since nineteen
eighty five that's only happened twenty three times, that fourteen percent.
All right, all right, does that help?
Speaker 4 (33:54):
That helps?
Speaker 1 (33:55):
Yeah?
Speaker 4 (33:55):
Yeah, I got a lot of upsets in my backet
this year.
Speaker 3 (33:57):
I don't know do yah, yeah, I am doing multiple thing.
Speaker 1 (34:02):
Do you want the do you want the second round frequency?
Speaker 6 (34:05):
Oh yeah, give that to me. How often does the
eight beat the one seed or the nine beat the
one seed?
Speaker 1 (34:10):
Okay, the nine or the one or the eight? Well
start with eight, eight over the one fifteen times?
Speaker 4 (34:18):
That's not very much.
Speaker 1 (34:21):
What's the next one? Nine? Nine, nine over a one
has happened six times?
Speaker 4 (34:25):
Oh even less.
Speaker 1 (34:28):
The most common one is a seven over a two.
Oh interesting, eleven over a three is number two.
Speaker 2 (34:36):
We're putting a lot of smart things into this.
Speaker 1 (34:39):
I wouldn't go that far.
Speaker 4 (34:41):
This is the second time you called Ian smart and
he's denied it.
Speaker 1 (34:44):
And when I say that's the number of times, guys,
it's happen, it's not even a percentage, it's the number
of times it's happened. So you're thinking if you're looking
like because people were taught, okay, for example, again, a
lot of people love themselves. Gonzaga in the second round
over Houston, I really do. Okay, that's happened fiftyeen times
while I was asking eighty five. Yeah, fifteen times, it's
eighty five doesn't feel it doesn't feel like it's a
(35:10):
didn't feel well. But you know what, it has happened.
A fourteen versus a six has only happened twice. A
thirteen over a five in the second round has only
happened three times. So there you go. That help Anders helps.
Speaker 4 (35:28):
I like it.
Speaker 1 (35:29):
You're kind of in my You're in my pool. So
I'm really not liking the fact that I'm helping. I
don't know.
Speaker 4 (35:34):
I don't I try to do these March madness things
by statistics, because it's just you can kind of throw
all those out the door.
Speaker 1 (35:40):
Do you do what my do? You do what my
daughter does? Just do it by what five quote? This
is the quote five day. She goes, whatever vibe I have,
What does that mean?
Speaker 4 (35:48):
I something in between?
Speaker 5 (35:50):
That's what.
Speaker 6 (35:51):
So my uh my wife fills out brackets too, so
she she kind of goes strictly by the name in
which one she likes more. Yeah, she doesn't like Drake
as the singer, so she picks them to lose in
the first round.
Speaker 4 (36:00):
So there you go per class, but they're like a
fifteen seat, aren't they.
Speaker 1 (36:04):
Yeah?
Speaker 4 (36:04):
Yeah, a lot of people think they're gonna beat Missouri.
Speaker 1 (36:07):
All right, there you go. That's our that's our little teaser.
Tomorrow up Gary Perry Shawan just after one o'clock, so
call the Casino and Twin Peaks bringing our bracketology show
on your home for March Madas. John Lunn coming up
next nine three point three k.

Speaker 1 (36:28):
I think we have breaking news from the NFL. Andrews.
What's that? Disappointing news all Seahawk fans.
Speaker 6 (36:32):
Garrett Bradbury, the former Vikings center, has signed with the Patriots.
So the reunion with Sam Darnold is not happening.
Speaker 1 (36:39):
Oh it's gonna be sad, isn't it awful? Plummer? Okay,
let's see I sucker listening to the guy from spoke
track yesterday with Softy and Fame. He's like, Yeah, I
don't know about this guy.
Speaker 4 (36:53):
Everyone's about a lot of these offensive lines.
Speaker 1 (36:55):
Yeah, he's like, and I kind of tend to agree
with it. It's like, yeah, we are you gonna pay
this he just got beat out or they just brought
another guy to replace him. That kind of it's a
little bit of a red flag, isn't it.
Speaker 2 (37:02):
They're just they're the position that's being overpaid right now.
Speaker 1 (37:05):
I guess, I guess, and there's a need there. You go. Okay,
Cracking and Night take it on Chicago, five o'clock per game,
five thirty, drop of the puck. Let's see what else
we got going on. Bracketology showed tomorrow one o'clock, first
four game start this afternoon. A couple sixteen seeds at

move into our number two.
Speaker 9 (37:31):
You're listening to the exclusive home of the Huskies, the
Kracking and March Madness. Now back to Ian Furness, proudly
brought to you by Snow Call Me Casino on Sports
Radio ninety three point three KJRM.
Speaker 1 (37:47):
Our good friend John Lone joins us here as he
does every Tuesday at two o'clock. Hello, sir, how are you?
Speaker 10 (37:56):
You should buy by Saint Patrick's day. I mean, you're
quite a drinker. Wow wow, I know you drank on
the job many times.
Speaker 1 (38:05):
Man, coming in really hot. The worst part is all
of that is true. And the answer is I did
survive it. I did survive it. So yeah, I'm all good.
I'm all good. So yeah, I actually was. I was
on the road yesterday, so I had to be careful.
Speaker 5 (38:22):
I was.
Speaker 1 (38:23):
Uh we did a little thing at thirty two Bar
and Grill and uh so yeah, I had like I
had one green cors Light beer and that was it.
Came home and shut her down. So yeah, yeah, you
know what I was. I will tell you this, dude,
I was telling I'll tell you this. I was downtown yesterday,
downtown Seattle, was getting my haircut before this little other
event was going on, and I drove by like three
(38:45):
kind of irish tight bars and they're all just hopping,
They're all just going nuts. And I thought to myself, Man, nope, nope,
but like a few years ago, a few years ago.
Speaker 10 (38:55):
There's no way you can pass those.
Speaker 1 (38:57):
No, there's no way. And then I did think about
it later, go God, like, when did I get old age?
Speaker 10 (39:05):
You know, it's amazing. I know, we got a lot
to talk about it. I don't want this to hijack
a whole segment, but yeah, what I'm the same. I
don't know why we did this, but on Sunday night
there have to be a lot of stuff going on,
and corn beef is something where it's like turkey, like
you never eat it. But I did a corn beef
dinner with a guinness and some and some jamison and
it was actually really really good. And I never do
(39:26):
corn beef, and if I went into a sandwich shop,
I would never order corn beef, but like once a
year kind of like turkey, was pretty good, pretty good.
I never drink out. Yeah it's good, and I never
drink guinness. This seems too heavy. Guinness is not that heavy.
I probably took down about three.
Speaker 1 (39:42):
Good it's not heavy. It's Lord, it's lower calories spears,
which is crazy.
Speaker 2 (39:46):
Yeah, it's like the same amount as a bud.
Speaker 1 (39:49):
Yeah, it's really yeah.
Speaker 10 (39:54):
Because you think of them as heavy and they're they're
not heavy, not heavy at all.
Speaker 1 (39:58):
No, it's very strange how that works out. So yeah,
there you go. Anyway, Okay, so did you get after
last night? Then what's what's the deal?
Speaker 10 (40:06):
More Sunday night. I wasn't too so great Monday morning,
and you know, people were like, what's going on with you?
I'm like, I just I don't know what it was.
Is like around here, they just did a big Sunday
night thing, and so he went out Sunday night and
I said, you know the famous last words, I'm just
gonna have one goodness, maybe I'll have a you know,
maybe I have a Jamison little corn beef. This's that
we'll get home. And it was kind of like day drinking,
which is wonderful because you think you got more time.
Speaker 7 (40:27):
Now.
Speaker 10 (40:28):
What was great about it was I was probably in
bed by eight thirty, but yeah, I still didn't feel great.
But yeah, three guinness? Maybe did I say one? Jamison's
probably three? Yeah, and uh yeah it worked out well.
But you know, going to bed early as the key
to everything. I know that there's a lot of young
demo out there listening to your show, a lot of youngions,
and they like to do till two three in the
morning or something. But going in bed by eight thirty
(40:49):
your money the next day. It's great. You can do both.
Speaker 1 (40:51):
Yeah, good, I don't know that'd be nice. I can't
do that, all right, John, you have a job. Yeah,
well I don't work as hard as you do. You
work you John London Leash is on It's on the
air of twenty four seven. You were on last night.
I thought at one point, right, was the last time? Yeah? Yeah,
I like that.
Speaker 10 (41:09):
Yeah, the worst. The worst played the Nuggets that thing
called the NBA, which is you know, you're not missing
a whole lot, but uh, you know, we did a
little NBA post game thing and people like that guy
Curry around here. So I try to sponge as much
as I can off Steph Curry like, oh yeah, Steph
stef and I. Everybody's nice. Yeah, very well.
Speaker 1 (41:25):
Yeah, I used to NBA. I used to hear about
that place we have that back in the yame sometimes.
Speaker 10 (41:30):
Yeah, you're not missing anything.
Speaker 1 (41:33):
He tell people what it is?
Speaker 10 (41:34):
Is it?
Speaker 1 (41:34):
What's the product?
Speaker 10 (41:35):
Like right now, it's just no, it's just jack threes.
You miss the three, you get a rebound, your jacket three.
You know, just you can jack up the threes. And
aesthetically it's not pleasing. I mean, I know people in
Seattle would love to have it, and we know the story.
I don't need to go back and go over that
ground about the Sonics and everything. But I tell you this,
every time I do stuff on the forty nine ers
of football as big as Curry is here football dwarfs
(41:57):
a football. You know it's undelievable. This the Cubs and
the Dodgers kicked I don't know if you noticed this.
Cubs and the Dodgers kicked off the season. I know
it was in Japan, but they did. You know what's
on the front cover of ESPN dot com this morning,
mel Kiper's mock draft. And then below Melkiper's mockdraft there
was a video of his big head talking about his
mock draft. And then below that was the fact that
(42:19):
Major League Baseball had opened up their season with massive
superstar power with the Dodgers and the Cubs. But it was,
as we used to say in the newspaper industry, below
the fold. So the top two stories on ESPN dot
com was out of season Melkiper's mock draft and the
opening of baseball season with massive superstars in Japan was
below the fold. Like the third story on ESPN dot com,
(42:42):
it just tells you that the NFL rules rules.
Speaker 1 (42:45):
I tell you it does. And you know what here
in Seattle rules because we have Cooper Cup here. How
about that? Huh fella Cup? How worried are they about it?
About that in the Bay Area right now?
Speaker 10 (42:58):
Yeah, I think if you look at it right now now,
it goes Rams in Seattle probably in that order, and
then maybe the forty nine ers with the off season
that they've had. But I mean, if I look at
what Seattle's done, and that you and I talked about this,
you know, Darnold's deal is a one year deal. That's
a great deal. Cooper Cup is not done, I don't think.
I mean, he runs precise routes. They'll figure it out.
All this dumb stuff. And I'm seeing you guys have
(43:18):
talked about it. Oh my god, Cooper Cup plays in
the cup, in the in the in the slot and
JSN plays in the slot. Whatever are they going to do?
It's like, you don't think those two guys are good
enough to one play outside, one play inside, or interchange.
They can do that. And Lawrence is still a really
good run defender, and I know that they need an
offensive guard. Everybody does that. But in terms of just
what Seattle has done in the season versus what San
(43:41):
Francisco has done, it's night and Day and I, you know,
I don't know what people up there are saying, but
you know they've they've got to be able to draft
and you've got to be able to trust John Snyder
in that kind of way to figure out their offensive line, especially,
but he's done it in the past. Because the only
way the forty nine ers are getting better down here.
They got eleven draft picks and they're basically saying, well,
we got to hit every one of these draft picks
(44:01):
because they've let so many guys go and the only
thing the forty nine ers have done is signed special
teams guys. Seriously, They've signed like six special teamers. It's like,
we're gonna rule special teams. We're gonna rule. Offensive defense,
we're gonna suck. Okay, special teams, we are gonna rule.
Speaker 1 (44:13):
So what what is the story are they? Are they
in a retool, rebuild whatever the hell you want? What
are they doing?
Speaker 10 (44:20):
No, they're not in a rebuild, because if they're in
a rebuild, John Lynch is their general manager. He's only
hanging around to try to win a championship. He'd be
doing TV. John Lynch is from San Diego. He's his
dad's in the radio business, you know that or was
for a long time, and he could be down to
del Mar hanging out or hanging out on the beach
or whatever. He's only being, you know, staying here to
win a championship. He could get on TV. He could
(44:40):
take Herb Street's place tomorrow on Thursday Night without Michaels,
and he could be making a lot more money. And
if Kyle Sanahan thought he was going to rebuild, he'd
asked the forty nine ers to release him from his deal.
These guys have been that close to championships, they're not.
They don't want to rebuild now. Are they doing kind
of a financial reset which Buffalo did or the Rams
did a couple of years ago. Yeah, that's what they're doing.
But just to give you one example, I mean, Drake Greenlaw.
(45:03):
That's what all these contracts are about. Like the Darnold thing,
which I'm sure you've talked about. Oh, it's three and
one ten, No, it's not, it's one in thirty five
Drake Greenlaw deal the Denver who they lost, it was
three and thirty one. It's actually one and eleven and
a half. It's guaranteed, and the forty nine ers were
so cheap in this offseason that they didn't resign them.
And if I'm in Seattle, I'm like, you just lost
Dray Greenlaw. That's awesome for me. So they're just basically saying,
(45:25):
we got eleven picks in the draft. We still got
some talent around here, but we're going to do a
financial reset because they've got about one hundred million dollars
in dead cap and they just decided that this is
the end of that. Take a year in which they're
going to try to resign brock Perty and do a
couple of things, and then see what they can do
next year. And I'm not saying they're throwing away to you.
They're not because they have a last play schedule so
(45:46):
they can get in the playoffs. But as much as
some of these big names are not effective names anymore,
it still hurts to lose what they've lost. I mean,
Deebo Samuel to me, he's not a big loss or
hafunder any of these guys. They've either been hurt or
in effective or both. But like you guys in Seattle,
what fans do is they react to names and not
looking at actually what the guy is either producing or.
Speaker 1 (46:07):
Not producing well. And there's a great example that we
talked about, I think last week that we you know,
we people react to names, they react to positions. You know,
like nobody has ever seen Will Fryes play from you know,
like his four games last year for Indianapolis, and it
was the end of the world that the guys signed
somewhere else and didn't come to Seattle because they need
(46:28):
an interior offensive line help. And they you know, everyone's like, oh,
this this former seventh round pick that you know has
you know, two of the five seasons he's been in
the league, he's played a twenty eight games. He's like,
that's the difference between making the playoffs and not guaranteeing
this dude eighty eight million. It's the end of the way.
Come on, man, it's but it's a name, right, and
Cooper cups the name, there's no doubt. But we've all
(46:48):
watched him play twice a year since he came into
the league after you know, kicking everybody's ass in college
at Eastern Washington. And and if healthy, probably a good player.
The question is is redundant with Jason Smith and Jigba, right,
is that a redundant signing? In the sense a couple
of guys that maybe playing the slot. But I mean
you talked about it last week. You kind of like
what Seattle's done so far? Right, No, I love it.
Speaker 10 (47:10):
I think it's been one of the more underrated offseasons.
Look if you can get a quarterback and the way
Donald played last year, and I told you about him
for those who weren't listening to you last week, and
I'm sure that everybody was. But because you retain one
hundred percent of your audience. But here's the thing is
that I Sam Dartle, when I went in camp, I
expected one thing and then I got a total another.
And then when you start talking, I'm guaranteeing this is
gonna happen. They're gonna watch him in training camp and
(47:31):
everybody's gonna get all giddy and be like he's the
second coming. I mean, he's he is really impressive the
way that he throws the ball. But like you said,
and this is every quarterback, and I'm sure you've talked
about it. Everybody said, oh, you know, pressure up the middle, Sam,
Donald's terrible. Go look at the numbers everybody is. That's
what quarterbacks hate. You can't have pressure in the middle,
which is why there's so much pressure on John Snyder
to get things done in the middle. But you're not
(47:52):
gonna just overpay the guy you just said, what was
everybody studying the guy from the Colts film. Hey, the Seahawks,
I'm sorry. They wanted to make sure that his broken
leg was okay so that they weren't going to incur
a bunch of dead cap money down the line. I
don't blame him for that. You know, at this point
of free agency, and I'm sure you've talked about this too,
Tevin Jenkins is a nice player, but he's just never healthy.
So you've got to take that with a grain. Maybe
(48:14):
say it's a one year make good and you still
drafted guard in the meantime, But remember you don't have
to have these guards where the health will freezing to
come from. You know, the forty nine ers drafted Dominic
Pooney in the third round last year and he was
a top five guard in the league. You can find
these guys, but you and I have talked about it.
The Seahawks, for some weird reason, haven't been able to
fill that hole, and they've drafted a ton of guys.
(48:37):
Right the kid out of Yukon Haynes last year and
they you.
Speaker 1 (48:39):
Know, John, they've dropped it. They've dropped it unbelievable. Yes,
Shander came in the league. They've drafted more offensive lineman
I think than all but two teams. This is twenty
ten and the.
Speaker 10 (48:48):
Crazy Sometimes they're just not very good at it right.
Speaker 1 (48:51):
Well, that's the problem.
Speaker 10 (48:52):
I get, like they want to go free agency, but
it's a lot. I'm sorry, And I know the fans
love to see this because some guy gets hyped up
from the and you say he's really great. I just
I don't know that I buy that, and it sucks
because you'd love to have that. But you and I
talk about free agency all the time. These guys are flawed.
That's why they make it here. The only reason Sam
Donald made it to the Seahawks was because people questioned
(49:14):
whether he could do it again. And all I'm saying
is I saw him in training camp two years ago
in San Francisco and people loved him. There were people
buzzer around here going, look, if brock Berty gets hurt,
we can go to the super Bowl with Sam Donald.
So this isn't like Sam Donald just got here. He
was a third overall pick. The mental side of his
game got ripped apart in New York. He got rehabbed
in San Francisco. Het he played really well last year.
(49:36):
He's going to play in a similar offense in Seattle.
And you just mentioned weapons. I'm not saying. Look, if
any quarterback doesn't have weapons, they're going to struggle. Like
I've heard this stuff about well Donald in the interior
the offense, fine or Donald if he doesn't have receivers.
That's everybody in the league. That's every quarterback in the league,
from Josh Allen after Mahomes and on down Mahomes. It's
not like Mahomes has been crushing it. You know when
(49:57):
they have injuries that the receivers are Since Tyreek Hill left,
their defense actually has won them championships. So I like Darnold.
I like what they did with Cooper Cup. Yeah, he's
been banged up. But those guys, both Hay and JSN
are such good receivers. They'll figure out what they're gonna
do with these guys. They can interchange a lot of guys.
The good receivers, the best receivers to play all three positions,
(50:19):
and they really can. And so they can play X,
Y Z, whatever, So they're all going to be fine.
I think with Seattle, look to me, it comes down
to what Mike McDonald's gonna do defensively, because I think
they'll score points and they need still like you said,
they got to get any tier offensive lineman. They still
probably need to add another receiver, but if they can
get things short up, to me, my biggest question in
(50:40):
facing them would be are they going to be good defensively?
Is Mike McDonald's finally it's in his second year, but
I shouldn't say finally, But is Mike McDonald gonna build
a good enough defense for the Seahawks? That would be
my biggest question.
Speaker 1 (50:49):
Well, yeah, and last year he did, I mean the
second half of the season, once he got Ars Jones
in here and got one of the two slappies they
had playing linebacker before that, dacred Dodson, I mean once
what's What's I mean? I'm sure sure because those guys
were signed and his input last year was limited, you know,
I mean just putting the staff together and stuff like that.
And I my assumption is probably day one of mini
camps and OTA's and watching the film after those practices
(51:10):
and training camp. He's probably looking at as John Schneider
going Dotson and Baker, you thought those two guys are
better than Wagner or notes like what the hell are
we doing? I mean, he kicked both those guys to
the curb in the middle of the season, like you
don't see that happening. And you know, they bump up
Tyree Knight to their fourth round pick, and then obviously
they signed Ernest Jones and re signed him and they
ended up being a top ten defense the second half
of the season. They were really good defensively the second
(51:32):
half of the year. Yeah, you know, I mean, if
DeMarcus Lawrence is healthy and most people think that that
that's I mean, he kind of you know, I know
he has a little Twitter battle with what's his face
with Michael Parsons. But we said, I interviewed, We had
I had as at the facility on Tesa Wednesday or
Thursday last week whenever it was, and and we were
out there and uh, we interviewed, and he came into
(51:55):
the room and we interviewed DeMarcus Lawrence and he didn't
say he tapped out, but he's like, yeah, man, my
foot was jacked up and you know, so I didn't
play it, and he basically just says, looking, man, I
got a bad foot. We're not going anywhere. I'm done,
Like I'm done with this nonsense. And Doallas. You know,
good for him, and he's going to be healthy and
you know they'll be fine. Defensively, the interior line is
(52:16):
the interesting one. Like you mentioned, the forty nine Ers
draft a guy last year in the third round. He
ends up being Pro Bowl caliber right as a rookie.
As a third round pick, Sele drafts a third round
offensive lignman in Christian Haynes, and the guy can't get
on the field. So you just have to do better draft.
You have to have to be better at drafting offensive alignment.
That's all.
Speaker 10 (52:33):
Yeah, And look that's tough. I mean it is. It's
really difficult. And for some teams that just seems to
be what it is like for a long time. And
Brandon I broke that here. But Kyle Shanahan was a
wide receiver at Texas. Not a very good one, but
he was a wide receiver at Texas and and what
he is is he's really hard on receivers. So for
a long time, the forty nine ers just could not
figure out the receiver room. They couldn't draft good receivers,
(52:55):
and then you know, they started to hit a little
bit debo, even though he's a little bit older now
and I didn't have with them trading him a Yuke,
which a lot of people think that they are gonna
trade a Uke down here. But they just had trouble.
And there's certain teams where they just hit at certain
positions and there's other positions where they just can't figure
it out. Like you said, I don't know why Seattle
struggled so much. So I understand why the fans would
(53:15):
be apprehensive about going into the draft and not signing
a free agent. But a lot of times, when I'll
give you a great example, Javon Hargrave was a guy.
And this goes back to Buckner. So after they went
to Super Bowl fifty four, they trade Buckner to Forrest Buckman,
the former Oregon Duck, to Indianapolis, and they think, Okay,
we're gonna draft this guy thirteenth overall in Javon Kinlan,
(53:36):
he's just gonna take his place. Well, he sucked, and
so what they had to do is they had to
go into free agency and sign Javon Hargrave for two years.
Javon Hargrave has sucked, and so now what they have
to do is they're gonna pay him eight million dollars
this year not to play for them. He's gonna play
for Minnesota, and the year after that they're gonna have
to pay him twenty four million dollars not to play
for them. So everybody loves free agency when it's happening,
(53:58):
and they get pissed off like Christmas, like if you
don't have a present to open, you get mad. But
the long term ramplifications of signing a bad free agent
to a long term deal crush your cap. And then
so two years from now, when we'll freeze that that
broken leg doesn't heal right or he's actually not that good,
then you got to pay that guy or you got
to pay him to go away, and then you got
(54:18):
to start over at the position. So look, maybe the
guy's good or maybe he's like, what was that dude?
They signed out to Jacksuville like a loop. Jokal was
like a second overall pick of the drafting dude.
Speaker 1 (54:28):
We went down the Joel Robert Gallery road, and we
went down that all the time.
Speaker 10 (54:33):
That's what I mean. It's like, it's just not like
everyone thinks that I got news for you. If a
guy's free, there's a reason he's free. Like when you
look into like relationships and someone single that's like and
never been married and never had a real relationship, and
they're like forty five years old, red flags all over
the place, Like that's what free agency is. Like, there's
something wrong, either hurt, you're too expensive, you're too old,
(54:56):
you have you know, whatever the case, there's always a
chance you have to take because eight great players rarely
make it free agency, Like even the ones who were
great when they got Remember Drew Brees, he had like
the rotator cuff thing and he was gonna go to
Miami and they and another great move by sab and
he said, no, New Orleans picks him up. I mean
that happens occasionally, You're Saquon Barkley's no doubt happened occasionally.
(55:17):
But for the most part, it's fools gold and free
agency because you drafted poorly, you developed poorly, and you
didn't resign your own guy, so then you had a
bunch of money to re sign and it's the same
team's year after year after year. So I get it
on the on the thing about will freeze, but I'd
much rather do it. John Schneider had, which was, let's
double check on this guy, and Minnesota said, the hell
with it. We're so desperate, we'll just pay the guy.
(55:39):
I bet it doesn't turn out well, because that's generally
how it works.
Speaker 1 (55:42):
You hate hard Grave, by the way, I'm gonna I'm
gonna we're gonna start a new drinking We're gonna start
a new drinking game every week when you just crush
hard Grave because we're like three weeks in a row.
We're gonna play the drinking game with that.
Speaker 10 (55:52):
You hate that guy who's the free agent? This is
what he is, Okay, who's the free agent that the
Seahawks side, and everyone was all jacked up up that
he was going to be the missing piece sucked and defense.
Speaker 1 (56:06):
Oh Cloudy would be.
Speaker 10 (56:08):
The guy the Oh Cloudy's a great call.
Speaker 1 (56:10):
Yeah, he's a great call, anders perfect, Yes, Clowny was
going to be the second. All we did is play
video of the South Carolina hit on the Michigan kid
like over and over again.
Speaker 10 (56:19):
Exactly. Yeah in the Bowl game, yep, yeah, that game.
Oh it's it's unbelievable. But what happened was he crushed
him in the NFC championship game in Philly. He was
the one who took party out. But that year was
at twenty three and then that nobody even knew anything
about Hargrave, and all of a sudden, in the first
day of free agency, we're probably ten minutes into my
(56:40):
show and they signed Hardgrave and we're like, oh my god.
That of course, all the fans are like, we're going
to the super Bowl or winning the super Bowl. This
guy's amazing. We had the guy on the next day.
He's funny and great personality, gregarious, and then he proceeds
to suck for two straight years and then they him
eight and twenty four million dollars on the cap, and
everybody's like, oh my god, cre agency and it's like
(57:01):
and we all get sucked into it every single year.
And for the most part, guy stink. But if I
look at what Seattle did, like I said, you got
Donald for a year, and what you could do is
you could draft, you know, a quarterback, and this is
a deep quarterback draft, even though it's not a great one,
but you could draft that. I don't know McCord out
of Syracuse qu s or Howard out of Ohio State
or Riley Leonard out of Notre Dame and one of
(57:22):
those guys, and you know, get him in like a
fourth round and just you know, get yourself some insurance
or something like that. And I don't think you'd be
in really bad shape. But I I really do expect
Darnold to play well. Of course, Seattle, I will.
Speaker 1 (57:34):
We'll check in next week. You doing John London. Yeah,
that's it, because you're doing John London. Leash. You got
stuff to do. You know what, I have the greatest
thing in sports radio on Thursday and Friday. Guys, what
where the West would want affiliates?
Speaker 10 (57:54):
You want to know how cheap? You want to know
how Cep Camber was down here? We have a secondary
sports station that it's an easy bake oven. It's like
one kilowat right, Yeah, he can't even cook one of
those cupcakes or something, and we would have We did
that same thing and then they're like, sorry, you have
to go over to that other station. And it was like,
what are you talking about? Nobody even knows it exists.
Like cambr six eighty is is a big stick and
(58:15):
then it's called tambr ten fifty and seriously, I don't
even think you can hear it out of the building.
And they would make us sit over there for four
hours and do the show, and all we were doing
was basically play by play of the games and getting
pissed off when something happened to our bracket. And it
was like, that's what they made us.
Speaker 1 (58:31):
Do you know who would do that? You know that
our favorite old program director that you and I both
worked for, Alan Davis in Portland, That's something he would do.
He he had us doing. He had he had after
you left and win to wherever Pittsburgh or whatever. He
had Amazon and I he have a co host, he
had us doing the one year. He's like, I'm gonna
I'm gonna have you guys go on the air and
(58:53):
do your show.
Speaker 10 (58:55):
People to do this guy nails first, You're gonna do.
Speaker 1 (58:58):
The show and if something good happens, just go to
the game. But otherwise I want you just talking about
the games. I'm like, Ellen, nobody wants to hear us hot.
Everyone's sitting there with a bracket in their hands. They
want and if they're in their car driving around they
want to know what's going on every bucket. They don't
want us. No, no, this is a better way to
do it, guys. I'm telling you. I'm like, oh, you're
just an idiot, man, Like, what are we doing here?
Speaker 10 (59:19):
So they're gonna the games will be on kJ R,
and then what are you going to be doing?
Speaker 2 (59:26):
Watching?
Speaker 1 (59:26):
Watching exactly what you said, exactly what you said I
was going to be doing during Saint Patrick's Day, buddy, crumpling.
Speaker 10 (59:38):
Your bracket by the end of Thursday.
Speaker 1 (59:40):
But I'll be well, but then that's why, that's why
I'll be it. Still call me casino because you know what,
if the bracket goes the window, the windows are still open,
my friend, the windows are still open.
Speaker 10 (59:49):
So you're doing it from a casino. You're in a casino.
Speaker 1 (59:53):
No, Tomorrow, Tomorrow, I'm in a casino. And then Thursday
and Friday. Yeah, yeah, well god.
Speaker 10 (01:00:00):
They shouldn't pay you for this week. Just keep it
casino and Thursday Friday and you're off.
Speaker 2 (01:00:06):
Hey, just quiet down, fella, Delta rough hand.
Speaker 1 (01:00:10):
Rich rich rich more ridiculous, ridiculous.
Speaker 10 (01:00:16):
There are actual people that are working out there, that
work really hard, and you're going to a casino tomorrow
to work and Thursday and Friday and you get off
to watch a tournament and they'll still pay you.
Speaker 1 (01:00:26):
Yes, exactly. You know what, you sound exactly like my wife.
Speaker 5 (01:00:34):
She's than your wife.
Speaker 1 (01:00:36):
I know. I know she's sitting at home going and
she works at home now, and she's like, like, my
two favorite days of the year are her least favorite
days of the year. Like she's just like, what are
you doing? And why are you screaming and cussing at
eleven in the morning, because because the six eleven just happened?
What does that mean?
Speaker 10 (01:00:54):
Exactly?
Speaker 1 (01:00:56):
She's just sideways, all right?
Speaker 5 (01:01:01):
Do it all right?
Speaker 1 (01:01:02):
John London leash where people find it anywhere all the time? Right,
you did everything?
Speaker 10 (01:01:06):
John London leish dot com. Hit me up on YouTube,
John London Leish. And by the way, I'm not just
saying this. Tons of people coming in from Seattle to
a bunch of conversations. People will pop in from the
Seahawks and talk about Seattle and people are people are
coming up coming down here and watching it.
Speaker 1 (01:01:21):
So I told you it'd be worth your while. I
told you while to come on with us, all right,
all right, And once again you have no concept of radio.
And because we're like eight minutes late for a break
because you have.
Speaker 10 (01:01:31):
No here's the thing too, you were late coming to me,
so this is not my fall. So you were late
coming into this segment, which means now we're late and
it's not my.
Speaker 1 (01:01:43):
Fault and you don't care if you're doing shut up.
All right, we'll talk next time.
Speaker 10 (01:01:48):
Check it out.
Speaker 1 (01:01:48):
John, all right, we'll come back and wrap things up
with some text.
Speaker 9 (01:01:51):
Next you're listening to the exclusive home with the Huskies
and march Man. Now back to Ian Furness, proudly brought
to you by Snow call me Casino on Sports Radio
ninety three point three kJ R f M.
Speaker 1 (01:02:12):
Hire back, John Ludd went really long. He takes four
He almost as if he's unleashed. Unleashed. He takes full
responsibility for that. He takes full full responsibility for going
so long.
Speaker 2 (01:02:26):
He did the opposite of them.
Speaker 1 (01:02:27):
So we're just got a quick segment here. Did I
see this right? Did Tracy Morgan hurl on a basketball
floor last night? What? Yeah?
Speaker 2 (01:02:33):
He did?
Speaker 3 (01:02:35):
And apparently he has like a serious health reason for that.
He I think he hurd how hard he had a nosebleed?
Speaker 1 (01:02:41):
Oh, my goodness. I just saw a picture of it.
I was like, that can't be.
Speaker 2 (01:02:44):
It was very projectile. Yeah, no, that's real.
Speaker 5 (01:02:47):
I was.
Speaker 1 (01:02:48):
It took like twenty minutes to clean it up before
the team game could resume because he's sitting on the
on the court side.
Speaker 2 (01:02:52):
Oh yeah, I guess he had food poisoning. Is what
the story is.
Speaker 1 (01:02:55):
Man, I thought I had food poisoning yesterday. I did
not feel it.
Speaker 8 (01:02:58):
No.
Speaker 1 (01:02:59):
Oh no, well I was all right. I mean I listen,
man powered through it here. I am, huh right, powered
through it.
Speaker 2 (01:03:04):
Good job, good job.
Speaker 1 (01:03:06):
But I was a miserable human being to be around yesterday.
So my apologies to you too. I was not feeling good.
Speaker 4 (01:03:10):
I didn't notice that at all.
Speaker 2 (01:03:12):
No, I didn't find you miserable.
Speaker 1 (01:03:13):
Okay, I I find you guys being very sarcastic.
Speaker 4 (01:03:16):
No, no, I have.
Speaker 1 (01:03:19):
Not. I appreciate it.
Speaker 4 (01:03:21):
Miserable I was.
Speaker 1 (01:03:23):
I was like, man, I have hurt. Yeah, but good today.
Good to go a couple of green beers at thirty
two bar.
Speaker 10 (01:03:29):
Girl.
Speaker 1 (01:03:29):
Last night, I was fine to go here, we go there.
Speaker 2 (01:03:31):
Then you did not have food poison No.
Speaker 1 (01:03:34):
No, I did not shout out to my man Kenny
out there at thirty two. We had a great time
last night for our little our draft and in a
way we go so you can vote on our text poll,
Twitter poll, X pole whatever hell would call in these days?
What are your well, I don't know what do we
call these things?
Speaker 10 (01:03:47):
Right, it's a.
Speaker 4 (01:03:48):
Poll, Twitter po, Twitter poll. It's Twitter, don't don't call
it x.
Speaker 1 (01:03:54):
All right, I'm gonna take a break, so I want
to be on time. I do want to talk. There's
something I want to hit on the soft team when
we come back. He's at the see how right, Yes,
Virginia Mason Athletics Center. We'll check in with it. We'll
check in with him coming up next. All right, back,
just a short little segment here because we got to
(01:04:15):
get ready for Cooper Cup news conference coming up at
three o'clock today. Andrews is jess in there.
Speaker 4 (01:04:22):
Yes, I'm here, Okay, okay, real quick.
Speaker 1 (01:04:25):
I want to do this and I don't want to
let the stay go by without mentioning something and having
softy and gesture is perfect. We just have a few minutes.
But today's three year anniversary of the professor dying John Clayton,
who everyone here. Andrew's not really as much as he's
a little bit younger.
Speaker 4 (01:04:41):
But a couple of times did you perfect you know?
Speaker 1 (01:04:43):
Yeah, And Jess worked with him closely across the street,
and Softy was his producer for a long time, as
was Jess. I just want to see each if we
can just share a couple of quick thoughts and memories
on him. I'll start with this. When I got hired
almost nineteen years ago at KJR, a couple of people
went out of their way to congratulate me. One I'd
(01:05:04):
kind of know hi because I talked to him, have
been around him a while, and it's it's Softy, and
you know, we talk about we have fun on the
air all the time. But dude, you were one of
the first people, in fact, the first one come up
give me a hug, welcome and I always appreciate that week. Yes,
for sure, I know it was. And the other guy
was John Clayton, who you know I'm looking at as
a superstar. I saw him in the Seahawk press box
and before I even went on the air, and he says, Oh,
(01:05:26):
I can't believe you're here at KJR. It just was
effusive in his congratulations and I'm like, wait a second,
you're John Flipping Clayton, like, I'm doing a night show
at KJR. Leave me alone. I'm overwhelmed. That's who he was.
And Tom Lee hired him our old program director almost
what twenty five thirty years ago. Dave, he loved KJR,
(01:05:47):
all due respect to across the street. He loved KJR.
And this is where he became a star, not just
as a newspaper writer, but as a multimedia guy. Dave
go out.
Speaker 11 (01:05:56):
Yeah, well, I started in March of ninety four as
an intern, and I think left in two thousand and nine,
twenty ten.
Speaker 1 (01:06:02):
I don't remember the.
Speaker 11 (01:06:03):
Attack year jests when you guys across the streets. So
I was with him for fifteen years and I was
his producer on Saturdays. He was a weekly guest with me, obviously,
I think he was on with us twice a week.
And I mean, first of all, I just remember the
way he treated people. I mean he had He was
the biggest star with the smallest ego I've ever seen
in my life, right, I mean I remember working with
him when I was an intern and he walk up
(01:06:24):
to me and start asking me from my thoughts on the.
Speaker 1 (01:06:26):
NFL, like what do you care what I think.
Speaker 11 (01:06:28):
I'm like twenty years old, you know, why would.
Speaker 1 (01:06:30):
You give it?
Speaker 5 (01:06:30):
Damn?
Speaker 11 (01:06:30):
But he was just he was he He lived and
breed the NFL. There are two things that he was
all about. Number one was the NFL and number two
and number two was probably number one was his wife. Yeah, right, Like,
no matter where you went, every Saturday, she would be
there at the station, sitting in the sports pit, waiting
for him to get off the air. She was a
writer at the Tribune, and I think that's how they met,
by the way, I think she was covering bowling for
(01:06:52):
them by.
Speaker 2 (01:06:52):
The end of the day.
Speaker 11 (01:06:54):
Yeah, but I just remember her being everywhere, you know,
media parties where you're you were not allowed to bring
a plus one. John would always get to bring a
plus one, right because everybody knew that he wasn't going
anywhere without Pat.
Speaker 5 (01:07:06):
So, yeah, he's.
Speaker 11 (01:07:07):
Gonna be greatly missed. I mean, just you know, hanging
out with him off the air, on the air, filling
in for him. I still remember doing the show. I
had everything written down in long form, and like my
entire monologue was written down. You know, I still have
the tape from that show. So he gave me in
a lot of ways. My first shot to fill in
on a Saturday when he was out on assignment somewhere.
But yeah, I mean he was just a sweetheart of
(01:07:27):
a guy. Didn't want to cross him, for sure, because
once you crossed him, you'll never get him back over,
There's no doubt about that. But if you were on
his good side, you stayed on his good side forever.
Speaker 5 (01:07:36):
And he took he took massive carry.
Speaker 3 (01:07:38):
You just yes, I have two really quick ones. I'll
try to be short on this. When I first moved
out here, he could not believe that I had never
had Cobber River seven and we were doing our show.
I was with Kevin Collaboro at the time, right outside
of what was Safego Field, and he couldn't believe it.
And he walked up to FX McCrory's and made Mick
McHugh make Coper River salmon, which we all know is
(01:08:01):
like the crown jewel of salmon in this state, and
brought me back three different servings because he didn't know
which one I would like best, And he walked there
and came back just to make sure that I could
have this thing. And the other one was he had
this you know that place, Barbie Mill, where he and
(01:08:22):
Pat lived before he passed away, right across from Virginia
Mason Athletics Center.
Speaker 2 (01:08:27):
He was right there.
Speaker 3 (01:08:28):
He had this amazing kitchen that he never had time
to use, so I would go over and visit them
every couple months and cook them dinner.
Speaker 2 (01:08:34):
And I was sitting there out on.
Speaker 3 (01:08:36):
The porch when he got facts the Sports Center commercial
script and he was asking me if I thought he
should do it the mom I've finished with my segment
that one.
Speaker 2 (01:08:45):
I was sitting on his porch when he got it
and asked me.
Speaker 3 (01:08:47):
I was like, if you don't do this, I'm going
to be so mad at you because this is amazing.
Speaker 2 (01:08:53):
And obviously that went on.
Speaker 3 (01:08:56):
You know, I could tell you a million stories about him,
but those are two really fun memories, is I would
like to share with the listeners.
Speaker 1 (01:09:02):
I'm glad you guys did.
Speaker 2 (01:09:04):
Like I said, thank you, Ian, I appreciate that.
Speaker 1 (01:09:07):
I think he was a Seattle treasure that we shared
with the rest of the country. Is what he was like.
That's he was a I mean, and I've never ever
ever seen anybody that loved to do radio more than
that guy.
Speaker 11 (01:09:20):
How about a guy who gave a caller the entire
show with he wanted. I don't think he hung up
on one caller was here. They he would ask them
anything else, anything else you can need. No, I'm done, John,
I got for you.
Speaker 1 (01:09:36):
That guy would never miss the show. He was. He
was a treasurer. And may you rest in peace, John Clayton,
the professor. You were a one of a kind. So
all right, uh Cooper cut press conference coming up top
of the hour.
Speaker 11 (01:09:46):
Yeah, we'll visit with him afterwards. And then John Wilner
least Sterling Everett from Chicago before the Blackhawks game before
pregame at five.
Speaker 1 (01:09:53):
So back to our show.
Speaker 11 (01:09:55):
But tip for the mild mannered and marginally objectionably in
for now us.
Speaker 2 (01:10:00):
This is paddle day, saying so long everyone,
