Speaker 1 (00:00):
We are here today at the sportsbook because it's a Friday,
like being up here on Fridays anyway. But the big
I mean, this is a huge weekend for sports. I
was talking about this with m Jay in the midday.
Are you really sure it's the playoff weekend? Yes, I am, Mark,
I'm ready.

Speaker 2 (00:15):
I'm sure.

Speaker 1 (00:17):
It's the best weekend of the year. It's the playoff weekend. Yes, sir,
I am. I'm excited about it. NBA real playoffs, not
the stupid play in games, because we want to give
everybody a participation.

Speaker 2 (00:29):
Bit ribbon.

Speaker 1 (00:30):
NBA Playoffs begin this weekend. Stanley Cup Playoffs begin this weekend.
And how about this for a little announcement for our
great friends of our show title sponsor. That's snowclam Me
Casino and Hotel. They start off track betting here tomorrow.

Speaker 3 (00:44):
Let's go.

Speaker 1 (00:45):
And I know a lot of folks have been asking
about it. A lot of folks have been asking about
you know, are you going to have And the funny
thing is they have fan Duel TV and what's the
other one, the other horse racing channel. They have won
the screens here all the time. In the sports it's
always right front of us, but you can't ever wager
on it. No now you can't, sorry tomorrow. So and

(01:06):
the way you'll do it, they'll explain it to if
you get here, they have they'll have dedicated kiosks for
off track betting. They're gonna use the tracks that are
being used for OTB at Emerald Downs. So if you're
into that world and maybe you don't want to drive
to Emerald Downs and you're closer up here, come on
up here. It's whatever you've been doing Animal Downs, you
can do here. So pretty cool deal. Congrats to Saquami Casino.

(01:28):
So they're excited about that. Off track betting starts tomorrow.
Playoffs start this weekend, so a good time to beat
the sportsbook and of course great dining options is so
much more snocasino dot com. In just a second, we're
gonna get to Eno Saras. Listen our We had a
weird show yesterday. Our show was starting literally in the
bottom of the tenth inning of the Mariners game. We
had Eno Saras on it for the Athletic our baseball

(01:49):
guest brought to you by Georgetown Brewing on right as
that is happening, and I'm not naive to the fact
that maybe a few of you might have been elsewhere
while the Mariners were holding on for that. We're going
to get that win and extra innings yesterday.

Speaker 3 (02:00):
Third straight series win.

Speaker 2 (02:01):
Thank you very much.

Speaker 1 (02:02):
They but we got a great little conversation with him,
and I had just pull out like the best parts
of that, just talking having Eno talk about our team,
and they've already won the game.

Speaker 2 (02:11):
So it was good.

Speaker 1 (02:11):
It was it was timely. Doesn't time out for today.
We're gonna play a chunk of that in a second.
At one point thirty Edge's gonna join us. Eddie old
Check can't wait see what he's up to, see what
adds Edgel's calling.

Speaker 4 (02:23):
He will be on ice somewhere.

Speaker 1 (02:25):
He's Colorado, Dallas. I believe this weekend awesome. Yeah, I'm
pretty sure that on tn T and TBS. He's also
got a stand Cup final on TBS.

Speaker 2 (02:36):
Let's go.

Speaker 1 (02:37):
So we've got ed Zoe on. We'll ask him about
the playoffs, we'll ask him. I'm just gonna ask him
what went wrong with the with the krack and I'll
just get out of the way because that might actually
take up the whole segment, so and not because everything
went wrong.

Speaker 2 (02:48):
It's just because it's ed Ze.

Speaker 3 (02:49):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (02:49):
We love him and we love him to death. And
he'll tell you exactly what he's on, what's on his mind.
There's no filter, and that's what I love about the guy. Uh,
highly entertaining, so knowledgeable. I love his insights.

Speaker 2 (02:59):
So he's doing it.

Speaker 1 (03:01):
Yeah, and I got a text already. I will ask him.
I will ask him who his favorite is for the
Kentucky Derby. If you all don't know, he also works
on NBC doing the Triple Crown Races.

Speaker 5 (03:11):
Oh.

Speaker 1 (03:12):
He's a huge horse racing guy, really and he's been
doing that for years. Yeah, so people have been just
since I mentioned it on Mark Show. It's like people
texting him, ask ed ask edgel about the Kentucky Derby.
So we'll get that early pick if you need that
as well. Okay, so that's coming up Before we get
to Eno, I do want to touch quickly on the
Sonic stuff and Adam Silver's comments on the Worst show

(03:33):
in the World called the Pat McAfee Show yesterday.

Speaker 2 (03:36):
Uh, we're gonna play a little snippet of that. At one.

Speaker 1 (03:42):
I saw Tim Booth thrown the story in the time today.
God it is to me, it's mind boggling anytime the
words or what anytime the following is said, NBA Seattle,
Adam Silver, NBA Commissioner, Seattle, NBA expansion. Any any if
you take that word salad and put any those out there,
people in this town go bananas. He said nothing yesterday, guys,

(04:06):
he said nothing. People try to make a thing out
of it. It's a nothing burger. But we'll play it anyway,
and we'll tell you why it's nothing burger because he
doesn't tell you the truth. All right, I'm just gonna
tell you that he's not speaking the truth always. This
is very I think what he's doing is he's trying

(04:26):
to keep others happy, whether it be owners or other
potential expansion cities happy. It's Vegas in Seattle, and that's
all you need to know. And the only problem is
Purple Sheet actually came up with a good point the
other day.

Speaker 2 (04:40):
What I was just waiting, doesn't that was a.

Speaker 1 (04:43):
Dramatic pause just to see who was going to jump
on it and let the record show Purple Sheet it
was it was vacate, not Anders, But he said it's true.
He came up with a good point we're talking about
this out in the in the sports whatever the sports
pit sales area is now, and he said, you know,
I think people are just so anxious because, for the
first time ever, there's a true light at the end

(05:03):
of the tunnel. And he's right, there is there's a
light at the end of the tunnel. But when, like
anything else, you wait for forever, when you're waiting so
long for it and it's close but it's not there yet,
the wait becomes longer and harder and more stressful. And
that's kind of where we are right now with the NBA.
But we'll get to those comments at one forty five

(05:24):
because we're doing a basically daily power play one thirty
with dead Zone. All Right, Ino Sarus from the Athletic
Baseball Guy analytics guy loves beer and he's a baseball
nerds guy, baseball numbers nerds. You know what he'll never
talk about, Andrews what batting average or RBI.

Speaker 6 (05:39):
Yes, he sounds like my type of guy. Likes beer
and doesn't like batting average.

Speaker 2 (05:43):
That's exactly it.

Speaker 1 (05:45):
We asked him yesterday what he would make out of
our baseball team, the Los Marineros so far this.

Speaker 7 (05:51):
Year they've demonstrated the same, you know, dominance starting pitching.
I think that if there were any questions about it,
what the bullpen would look like this year beyond Andres Munios,
I think they're starting to answer those questions. Trent Thornton,
Carlos Vargas looked like legitimate setup guys. Vargus had a
little trouble today finding the zone, and he can do that.

(06:14):
But they're they're finding the pieces in the bullpen to
spot behind on DRIs Munoz, and they're about to get
Matt brashback, who gets busy. So I like their pitching
as always, and I think my point I was trying
to make the last time I was on here was
just that it was a slow start from the offense
and they were going to get going at some point.

(06:34):
And it looks like the offense has fallen in place.
They're not striking out quite as much, and some of
the guys that were cold are trying to put it
on today today, Randy OrderIn and having a two for
four game. That's that's something you want to see more of,
you know.

Speaker 1 (06:49):
I cal Rawly hits his eighth home run this year.
He's on a big time heater right now. But eight
home runs at this point the season through nineteen games,
I mean it's I think or today, before his eighth
he was on pace with seven to hit wait for it,
sixty three home runs probably won't keep that pace up
behind the plate. But in bigger picture terms, where does

(07:11):
cal Raley rate in your mind among the best catchers
in the game right now?

Speaker 7 (07:17):
I mean, there's a case from to be the number
one catcher in baseball. And it's not that it's not
the normal case. I mean, William Contreras is probably the
number one offensive catcher in baseball, and he is this year,
and he was last year, and you know, he's just

(07:38):
a he's a great offensive player. But cal Rally is
the best defensive catcher in baseball. You know, when it
comes to framing, he's second or first, depending on what
time framing is. When it comes to blocking.

Speaker 8 (07:53):
He's up there.

Speaker 7 (07:54):
When you know, when it comes to the throwing game,
he's up there. And I hear that, you know, pitchers,
I've been hearing the pitchers love throwing to him forever,
and so you know, I think he's the best defensive
catcher in the game. And he's one of the three
best offensive catchers in the game. If you add those

(08:15):
things together, you have a case for best catcher in
the game.

Speaker 1 (08:20):
I gotta remember about abs in a second, because you
brought something up with framing that I want to get
your thoughts on as well. I mean, like Adlie Ritchman
in the American League too, right, Like a lot of
people love him. He's a former Oregon State Beaver, close
to us out here as well. But I think what
you said there is kind of think what a lot
of us have been thinking here in Seattle, the combination
of defense and offense. And it feels like I grew

(08:41):
up in an era. I mean, I'm older, you know,
very old old man here. I grew up watching the
great Johnny Bench and then later Gary Carter guys like that.
Why or how has that position changed in terms of
maybe not as reliant on offense as it used to be.

Speaker 7 (08:57):
I think there's just a real understanding of how different
their lives are. That's what I said to cow And
I thought him, like you, he's a switch hitter. I
didn't even think of this, but like, he's a switch hitter,
so he's got to think about offense from two sides
of the play. He's got to he's got to work
up all the pitchers that he's gonna that he's gonna
catch that night. Then he's got to start looking at
the catch the pictures he's gonna face. Then he's got

(09:19):
to start thinking about defensive things like blocking balls and
who's gonna run on him. So it's you know, there's
not it's not an accident that so many former catchers
are managers because they really have so much to do.
And I think you know, when we took a real
step forward analytically when we we included framing in a
catcher's value, we understood that they were able to steal

(09:41):
strikes and and and get more strikes than other catchers.
Once you start putting that in there, there are hundreds
of pitches per game. If they can steal whatever percentage
of those hundreds of pitches of game, you know, you know,
over one hundred and sixty two games, you start to
see how that little incremental value starts adding up. And
once you add that value and you say, you know what,

(10:04):
I'm gonna make a simple on offense. Just hit me
a couple of dingers, you know, Just hit me, hit
me a couple of dingers and be a good framer
and call the game well and really understand the game
from back there, and I won't care what your batting
average is. And Calas I think it to some extent,
a real extension of that.

Speaker 1 (10:20):
It's a good point because in today's game, I think
it was a rose rain and the extra innings he
probably should have struck out and they would have gone
into the bottom of the eleven or tenth with a
one run lead. Instead, the pitch wasn't framed. It was
called a ball. It was a strike three. And it's like,
I mean that those two or three inches, and if
a catcher can give that to you, it is It's
remarkable what one or two pitches with the difference it

(10:41):
makes you bring up to that the preparation he's got
to do for a game. I'm wondering how much it's
probably a lot more different. I hate the I'll just
be honest with you, you know. I mean, we have people
all the time in our business of sports radio. It's
you know, the comparisons of you know, this day versus
that day old, you know, who was better, and all
the generations and the arguments. Hell, I don't think I

(11:02):
don't think inside the NBA is on a show this
year without arguing about that stuff. But so, I'm not
a big fan of it, but I'd think it's safe
to say, maybe you can correct me if I'm wrong,
that what cal Rowley or Radlely, Rutchman or anybody's got
to do these days as a catcher is far more preparation,
far more detailed than it was back then, just because
of the information available the scouting.

Speaker 7 (11:22):
Yeah, yeah, I think so. I think so. I mean
you're you're talking about hot zones and let's say you're
let's say where. He did let me in a little
bit on this, and he said that the pictures have
their plan and they'll go over it with him, and
he's offering smaller changes to that. It's not so much
that he has to make the plan for every picture.

(11:44):
So that's a little bit of nuance there that can
help him a little bit, you know, like, yeah, Okay,
they're coming to me with the plan and I'm looking
at it as opposed to I got to come up.

Speaker 9 (11:51):
With a plan for each of these guys.

Speaker 7 (11:53):
And the proliferation of coaching. I don't know if you've noticed,
but there are now you know, quality assurance coaching. Yeah,
and not only the pitching coach, for the assistant pitching
coach and the bullpen pitching coach, you know, so there
are more and more coaches to help shoulder some of
that burden. But you know, we talk about stuff like,
you know, on rays and Barrel's on my podcast, we

(12:15):
talked about like, hey, how do you pitch this guy?
And we'll like have heat maps and one of the
questions is do we use the heat map from the
last two weeks, do we use the heat map from
the last two months, do we use the heat map
for the last two years, because those heat maps might
be different because those players are ever changing. And that
question alone starts to I think maybe get at like

(12:36):
how much information there is in the game and how
much discernment. You know, a catcher like cal Rally has
to say, you know what, I'm going to trust this
last two weeks because I think I see an adjustment,
you know, in the way he's doing something, and so
let's pitch him this way, not the way that we
pitched him last year. So if you think about that,
you have to continually update your mental role of decks

(12:58):
and and and you know, trends go through the league
so quickly. The kick chains that Munos is throwing is
now like one of the biggest things in the game.
You know, that happens within you know, two months or
something now, So you know, I think the game moves
really quickly, and there's a lot of data and there's
a lot of technology involved, and I think that just
you know, makes things a little bit harder.

Speaker 1 (13:20):
That is Eo Seruhs from the Athletic You can go
check his The whole thing's up on our podcast.

Speaker 3 (13:25):
It's so basically Caraways the goat is what he's saying.

Speaker 1 (13:28):
Well, I wanted to ask him that for this reason
because I think for a while here right, we've been like,
first of all, he's there been an All Star, which
is just think about that for you, But he has
to be this year.

Speaker 2 (13:45):
I mean, hell, he's.

Speaker 3 (13:46):
Probably right now, he's a starter in the American League.

Speaker 1 (13:49):
Right, and but I wanted to get his thoughts on that.
From this from the standpoint of we love cal Rawley
in Seattle. Sometimes you can be I think you can
go one of two ways with guys in your own
on your own team. You can love them unconditionally and
never see a blemish, never see a wart or you

(14:11):
can treat them like Julio Rodriguez just treated this town.
Yeah so, and Cal's cal Is is the former and
Huios the ladder. But are we blinded by something with
cal Or? Is he really as good as advertised? And
that's a guy that has no skin in the game
saying yeah, damn you, all right, he's as good as advertise.
So good stuff there from Meno Serus. All right, I

(14:34):
was gonna ask about Munho's real quick. I'm looking at
this Andrews real fast.

Speaker 9 (14:40):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (14:41):
So he pitched. What's today, guys? The eighteenth?

Speaker 9 (14:46):
Right?

Speaker 3 (14:46):
Eighteenth?

Speaker 1 (14:46):
Yeah, eighteenth, So he's pitched. He's pitched two straight days.
You would assume not available today. He didn't pitch on
the fourteenth or the fifteenth, but in the fifteenth a
day off, right, okay? Or the fourteenth is a day off,
But he pitched. Oh man, he's pitched a lot. Yes,

(15:07):
Why did they throw him yesterday? In the Temptenny, Yeah,
it's an eleven to seven win our lead.

Speaker 3 (15:12):
That was questionable to me. I just think you needed
to win that series.

Speaker 2 (15:17):
And he's got seven saves and they have what nine wins?

Speaker 3 (15:20):
Yeah, eleven wins.

Speaker 1 (15:22):
Eleven wins. So and he's pitched an eight of the
eleven wins. Yeah, damn. Yeah, I don't know.

Speaker 2 (15:32):
I don't know.

Speaker 1 (15:32):
I worry about him being overused. Yeah, like I really
worry about him being all.

Speaker 6 (15:37):
They need bash back really badly, and I think once
that happens, they're going to start to do. I don't
think Munos is going to be your closer every single time.
I think it's going to be a situational thing where
maybe wrong by the way, yeah.

Speaker 1 (15:51):
I'm wrong, by the way. He's pitched in ten games. Yeah, yes,
he's pitching ten games, eight of which are wins. So
eight of the eleven wins. In the two games he pitched,
they didn't win. He didn't give up anything. He doesn't
give up anything yet this year. One was the extra
inning crazy ass game that Friday, a couple of Fridays
ago against San Francisco. Yeah, that ten to nine game, right,

(16:12):
Yeah right, he pitched in that, and I get that.
That made sense, right, that made sense. And he pitched
in an extra inning game with Houston as well that
they lost to to one.

Speaker 6 (16:22):
You know, it's crazy. The Marners might have the best
catch in the game. Uh pros closer, maybe the best
closer in the game, maybe the best starting rotation in
the game. And I know people are gonna get mad
at me at this. You probably still have the best
center fielder in the game because Aaron Judge moved to
right field, because Mike Trout moved to right field.

Speaker 2 (16:39):
So you're saying the Murders are a playoff team, That's
what I heard.

Speaker 3 (16:43):
The thing is that you look at that infield and
it's like he's still a routing to les.

Speaker 6 (16:48):
Playing every day with Donovan Solano yet this year.

Speaker 2 (16:53):
All right, So joins us coming up.

Speaker 10 (16:56):
Next live from the R and R Foundation Specialist broadcast studio,
back to Ian Ferinance, powered by Seattle's closest sports book,
snow Caualme Casino on Sports Radio ninety three point three
kJ R FM.

Speaker 1 (17:15):
And we're at the Snowqualme Casino and sports Book today,
soon to be Snoqualme Casino, Sportsbook and hotel later on
the summer.

Speaker 2 (17:22):
The hotel opens up.

Speaker 1 (17:25):
Playoffs begin this weekend in the NBA NHL Mariners in
action later on today. But man, we are ready to
rock and roll. We got We've got a lot to
talk about today we're gonna get to up by the way.
Rob rang at two o'clock is gonna join us. This
week we visit brought to buy Ferrelli's pizza. Rob will
join us. We'll go through defensive lineman for the Seahawks draft.
Six days away from the draft, seven days away from

(17:47):
day two of the draft. We'll beat the Virginia Mason
Athletics Center Thursday and Friday next week until nine pm
every night.

Speaker 2 (17:52):
I say we that.

Speaker 1 (17:53):
Means KJR, but we means also Ian me a lot
of times too. Another guy that's be traveling and doing
a lot of work coming up, even though the crack
and hockey season has over joined us right now on
the Beacon Plumbing hot Line. Man, what a joy it
was this year to sit there on a set or
at the rink and have a headset on and listen
to about sixty years so broadcast with John Forzland and

(18:14):
what Eddie olchek ed Zoe joined us right now on
the Beacon Pluming plumbing hot Line.

Speaker 2 (18:19):
How are you sir?

Speaker 7 (18:21):
Hey?

Speaker 9 (18:21):
What's up?

Speaker 7 (18:21):
Be great?

Speaker 9 (18:22):
Too great to be with you. Thanks for having me
and where did the season go? You know, it seemed
like at least for me. Anyways, it seemed like a
blink and yeah, here we are in the playoffs. Unfortunately,
the Crack and uh, you know, not able to take
take part of the postseason. So I'm in Dallas with
the NT game more on tomorrow night. The Stars who

(18:43):
are absolutely just really going into the playoffs zero five
and two in their last seven games, so it doesn't
look like Jason Roberts is going to play no Miro
ayskin in and of course the Colorado Avalanche. You know,
I think one of the certainly, I mean, these two
teams the favorites to you know, a couple of the
favorites at least to win the Stanley Cup this year.

(19:04):
So great time of year, and it was a lot
of fun, you know, being with you for the first time.
He he did an awesome job and looking forward to
bigger and better things down the road. So a tip
of the hockey helmet to you for the job you
did this year on the the maated voyage of the
Crack and Hockey Network.

Speaker 1 (19:20):
It means the world to me, buddy, It was it
was I was telling some of the folks and I
probably dumb for saying this. You know, you never know
it might they might just make you work for free,
but I said, it never felt like work.

Speaker 2 (19:30):
It just didn't. It just didn't. It didn't feel like work.

Speaker 1 (19:34):
And for a guy that spent all about fifteen hundred
games doing junior games in HL and IHL games to
actually do games in the NHL in a hosting role
was it was a It was a dream man. It
was a ton of fun for the sport that I
have the most passioned for. And listening to you and
to listening to you and Johnny and seeing especially my
favorite thing was some of the rehearsals behind the scenes.

(19:57):
You guys didn't get to hear us, but it was
almost as much of a longto with the two of
us as with you and john.

Speaker 2 (20:04):
I think, what people, it's a lot of fun.

Speaker 8 (20:06):
It's a lot of fun, a lot of fun.

Speaker 1 (20:08):
People need to know the all of us we have fun.
That's and I hope that comes across on our broadcast.
But I think we all have fun, right.

Speaker 9 (20:15):
We look, we look at we like you do it
on a you know, on a daily basis on your show.
Is you know, I think we'd like to think, uh,
we all feel and we know what's going on. In
the real world. We get a chance to entertain, We
get a chance to talk about things that that we
love and we're passionate about. And you know, look at

(20:36):
we we don't take ourselves too seriously obviously, you know,
we want to crack and to win and have success.
And we got to call it the way it is. Look,
you know, look, it's a disappointing year for for for
the whole team. It was I had expectations all year
the roster assembled was good enough to make the playoffs.
Obviously they did it and and it didn't happen. Uh,

(20:58):
you know, the power play was not good the majority
of the season. I know they had a you know,
I know they had a wind fall in the last
game of the regular season, I think, with three power
play goals. But you know, we got to call it
the way that it is. And I know sometimes it
may not come off the way that maybe some people
or some fans want, But I think the way that
you build creat ability and uh, and you gain humility,

(21:21):
I think is by you know, calling it what you see.
Doesn't mean it's right, doesn't mean it's wrong. But I
think that that's our mindset and that's always been my
mindset with with the legendary our captain as you know,
Johnny Forzelin. I mean not those are the games and know,
you know, calling the games and and you know, and
and and cheering on the team and wanting things to
go well. But when it goes sideways, you can't sit

(21:42):
there and blame the referee or you know that the
sun was in you know, wasn't Joey's eyes or you know,
I means, you know, just you know, things like that,
and it's a fine line that we all walk. But
hopefully people have been entertained and they've learned something, uh
you know, watching the games on the Crack and Hockey
Network and we have tremendous people, as you know, we

(22:03):
behind the scenes that take really good care of us.
And yeah, so it's it's a lot of fun and
you know, obviously disappointing, but hopefully people uh you know,
got away from the real world for a few hours
every night. I who turned on the Crack and Hockey.

Speaker 1 (22:17):
Network most important people behind the scenes and my producer
Scott Maloneyar's Ryan Shaber and for me and for me
Darcy Darcy and tiff Arstilas because otherwise I would have
looked like a radio guy all the time.

Speaker 9 (22:30):
All right, Hey, hey shut up, you can always you
can always go through the car wash when you need to.
Just remember that.

Speaker 1 (22:36):
Hey, so Eddie Oltchick showing us he'll be on the
Colorado Dallas call tomorrow on tn T. That's a five
thirty Pacific time start. I want to get in the
Stanley Cup playoffs in a second, and maybe we get
closer to the free agency draft time end of June.
If I can find you somewhere, I'd like to kind
of do it a little deeper dive, but you just
mentioned it. I'll wrap up the crack and conversation with this.

(22:59):
The power play wasn't very good. The defense, the goals
against I think were sometimes deceiving. I think defense was
traded for offense at times, with especially with the de
men having to jump up in the play, and maybe
that sacrificed some things. Joey maybe wore down. Grubauer couldn't
do much for a while, then got better. But overall,
when people say, hey, they're not the roster isn't good,
They're a long ways away. They're rebuilding of this and

(23:22):
that I mean, you know what General manager Ron Francis
is thinking and doing. What would you tell people Kraken
fans about what to look forward to next year?

Speaker 9 (23:29):
Well, I guess the first thing would be, I think
the thing that stuck out there he was you know,
I mean for people to say that the roster wasn't
good enough, I would beckt to differ one hundred times over.
I mean just think about when like to go back
before the trade deadline and when Ronnie Chandler's course, you
had Chandler Stevenson, Maddy Vanier's, Yanni Gord and Shane Wright

(23:55):
as your fourth son Risley. Now what again, going into
the season, you didn't know what was going to happened
with Sane and Finn had a tremendous year first first
year in the national hockey because let's just call it
what it was. So you look at some potholes in
the in the during the season, for sure, But you know,
for me, when when you look at the back end,
I mean you got done and Larsen You've got you know,
you got Montor and Morgan was you know, was there

(24:17):
in the particular time. You have Alexiak, you have Ryker Evans,
Josh Mrera had a I mean I talked about him
a lot towards the end of the season. Maybe I
should have done a better job earlier. But you know,
for a role player, he came into the hell of
a gobby on the back end. So like I looked
at it, at the team and look at there's some
guys that had you know, had sub part season. Now
the question is you got to figure out, well, A

(24:39):
isn't is an upper management team. You have to figure
out is why they weren't closer to the playoffs, And
B is look at the players and go okay, well
are these players are are what we thought? I mean,
Montor and Stephenson pretty good seasons. I mean I think
you know, with the way that they played and performed,
and you know, their only two players. So for me,

(25:02):
that'd be the one thing is like I said, I'm
sitting by this, I think the team that was rostered
was good enough to compete when I look at teams
that were battling to the end, like I look at
the Calgary Flames, and I look at teams that were
on the on the so called bubble. I look at Vancouver,
you know, I look at the teams that made it,
Saint Louis in Minnesota. Well, I look at the rosters

(25:23):
and go, okay, maybe the difference might be is maybe
you don't have like, look, you need stars. You need
superstars to win a Stanley Cup. Dude, krack and have
any superstars right now? The jury's out, so the question
is probably right now the answer is no. But when
you look at what happened a couple of years ago,
getting one hundred points, getting it within one goal of

(25:44):
the conference finals, when you have everybody play to their
ability and everybody has usher to everybody, the majority of
the roster has career years, and then all of a
sudden you could be that team that is towards the
top of the Wild Car Chase and also maybe being
second or third in the division. So long winded, I
think that you got pieces in place. Now it's up

(26:07):
to the coaching staff. It's up to management to figure
out a why this happened, and then how do we
get these guys to be better. You know, the Coco
Borgan trade ended up being really good for Matt Evaniers.
I don't think there's any doubt about that. I mean,
Maddy's season was keetering, and when Coco came in and
coached Dan Bosma put those two together, there was instant chemistry.

(26:29):
The team changed when Jordan Eberley went out of the
lineup the wrong way in my opinion, and then when
EPs came back, it certainly it played with you know,
it played way better and you know injuries are going
to happen. We've got to be able to overcome it.
Coco played well, demon you know, Niganny Newman played well.
Ellie told them they got no power playtime this year
and had what twenty three twenty four goals. So I

(26:51):
think there's I think there's lots. I think there's lots there.
But at the end of the day, I think for
the fan base is to understand is that got some
good got some good kids coming. And I would tell
them that the roster, well, the roster right now with
a tweak, let me let me start over. The roster
that is assembled right now is good enough to make

(27:13):
the playoffs. That's my opinion. Well, for what that's worth.

Speaker 8 (27:17):
Could you add a tweak?

Speaker 9 (27:18):
Can you Can you add a player you know, is
Newman the next guy there that can maybe help them
get that consistency and find there seems to be a
shooter and a scorer. So you know, like I said, disappointment,
I said, I took it on from day one to
drink again. The roster assembled is good enough. Now it's
up to coaching staff and the players that come together

(27:38):
to figure this thing out. And obviously they did it.
So now you go back to the drawing board and
you try to figure it out here and you know,
in try monster meriwin. You know, get back to training camp.

Speaker 2 (27:50):
I'm up, I guess a little bit.

Speaker 1 (27:51):
But just as as far as the first round series
and all the said like good playoffs Dallas Colorado says up,
everyone's far enough for that. You just mentioned the injuries though,
and maybe Lantiscott was back from Colorado, which would be
incredible story. But that feels like if some guys get
healthy for Dallas, could be seven Winnipeg Saint Louis. I mean,
Winnipeg's the number one seed. But can Helbuck play in
the playoffs. That's been a question. The Battle of Ontario

(28:13):
I can't wait to watch.

Speaker 2 (28:14):
Yeah, in about thirty seconds, give our listeners series can
they not miss?

Speaker 9 (28:19):
Huh? Well, I mean I think the Colorado Dallas one
is probably front center just from the aspect of the
moves that were made by both teams. Colorado cames their
whole roster during the course of the season. They're a
dangerous team. I mean Dallas the injuries part. Like I said,
they're all five and two in their last seven games,
so they need to find a way to win a period,
let alone a game, to give themselvesselves a chance in

(28:41):
this series. And don't forget LA Edmonton four straight years
playing each other. Edmonton's banged up a little bit. I
give a little bit of an extra LA teams in
that series.

Speaker 2 (28:49):
Andrew, do you like that one? Don't yet?

Speaker 1 (28:53):
Nobody hates nobody hates nobody hates Edmonton more than my
producer Andres.

Speaker 2 (28:58):
Okay, final thing for you.

Speaker 1 (29:01):
I'm sitting here at the sportsbook and people were automatically
texting in from those who don't know You're on the

Speaker 2 (29:34):
Journalism can still win.

Speaker 1 (29:35):
Hey, journalism can't win often, but maybe in this maybe
in the Triple Crown, Jess, I like its journalism in
a bad place right now, So that's a good thing.
Andrews clipped that for me, Will I need to see
that when I go down Animal Downs on that Saturday,

Speaker 2 (31:11):
We're back here at Stiklahoma. You SEEO.

Speaker 1 (31:13):
We've got a couple minutes here, I've got We're going
to actually play a little bit of silver audio. We
may play again at two thirty and we have a
longer time to discuss Adam Silvery. Yesterday, on the World's
Worst Radio Show, Pat mcafe show, but we did steal
the audio, so take a listen to what he says
about expansion.

Speaker 5 (31:25):
Look, there's no doubt there's been interest in Las Vegas Seattle.
Have been very public about it that it was it
was a market that was fantastic for the league that
we left at the time for understandable reasons. But there's
no doubt that there continues to be enormous passion in
that market for the NBA. So we're looking at those

(31:45):
markets and others. I think as we get into the summer,
we'll get into a more formal process of how we
go about doing it. I don't want to say it's
a foregone conclusion that we're going to expand, but I
also think over time, organizations tend to grow, and I
look at the success of those markets for other Major
league teams now, and you know, so it's easy to

(32:07):
present a scenario where you can see it working successfully
for the league.

Speaker 1 (32:13):
He he answered the expansion question from McAfee was about
two and a half minutes total, And I don't know,
maybe I'm rethinking my thought process here. Guys, mean, we
may play the full two thirty or whatever it is.

Speaker 2 (32:26):
At two thirty today.

Speaker 1 (32:28):
To thirty, let's do it, because I think there's a
couple of things I just want to hit on in there,
you know, kind of insinuated he hadn't just had any
discussions with Seattle and Vegas, and that's just not right.
That's that's wrong. I understand what he's doing. I think
he's protecting the interest of the league and maybe other
potential suitors. You want to get as much money out
of it as you can competition, if you know. If

(32:50):
it just says yeah, Vegas and Seattle the front runners,
but we haven't discussed you know, when and where or
when yet, that doesn't help the league because you still
have the Nashville's of the world. And I don't think Vancouver,
BC's in it, although some folks up there might disagree,
but Nashville certainly has been mentioned.

Speaker 2 (33:05):
There's some other.

Speaker 1 (33:06):
Cities too that that have been tossed out there, and
I don't think that probably benefits the league. You know,
to say that it's just Seattle in Vegas, but it's
a two horse race, it's not even a race. They've
crossed the finish line. They're just waiting right now for
the league to get to that point. But we'll get
to it later on. I I wanted I kind of
started the show today saying it was a nothing burger.

Speaker 2 (33:23):
That's probably not right.

Speaker 1 (33:24):
Anytime he speaks about it, it's there's something there, but
there's no new information.

Speaker 2 (33:29):
I guess is what I would say.

Speaker 1 (33:30):
I do think one thing before we get to the break,
that any thought or hope that they would be able
to expand by twenty six, twenty seven season, the two
thousand starting in the fall twenty six, not even it's just.

Speaker 2 (33:44):
Not on the table.

Speaker 4 (33:45):
Announcement would be happening by now.

Speaker 2 (33:47):
It would have It's not gonna. It's not gonna do.

Speaker 1 (33:49):
They're not gonna do something in the summer and say hey,
we're gonna they're gonna be expansion team and they're gonna
have their first draft in ten months.

Speaker 2 (33:57):
Right Like, they're not gonna do that. You'd have to
have them.

Speaker 1 (34:00):
You gotta have a two year at least eighteen months.
Were probably probably a ramp of about twenty four months
to get it going.

Speaker 2 (34:09):
Okay, let's talk some football, shall we.

Speaker 1 (34:11):
One week from today we'll be sitting getting ready for
Round two of the NFL Draft. By this time next week,
the Seahawks would have presumably made a pick maybe at eighteen.

Speaker 2 (34:24):
Overall, you never know.

Speaker 1 (34:25):
They also could have traded out of the first round
by this time next week, So we don't know. But
we're gonna talk about defensive linemen. What does Rob Rang think?

nobody does days two and three better than Rob Rang.
A lot of people out there tell us about first
round picks. My guy, when they start firing off picks
in that early morning of like nine thirty ten o'clock
on Saturday, this is the guy that'll just fire off

(36:41):
some dude's stats and where he's from and where he
transferred from and what is forty time was and all
this kind of stuff. Can't wait for another year of
draft coverage with you, my friend.

Speaker 8 (36:50):
Oh, I'm looking forward to it, myselfie, Thanks so much
for having me.

Speaker 1 (36:52):
As always, it's Rob Rang Fox sports dot Com. All right,
I want to before I go, We're gonna talk some
defensive lineman here today and then I'm guessing some of
these guys we probably talk about next week as well
after Day one. But I had your buddy Corbyn Smith
on yesterday on Thursday on the show, and I know
you guys still do some stuff here or there, and
and Corby and I were talking, and I'm gonna ask

(37:14):
you kind of the same question. What what do you
think the Seahawks' biggest needs are heading into days one, two,
and three of the draft in terms of position groups
and offensive line seemed intereo offensive line seems to be
a no brainer. He threw some other ones out there.
But if you were just to kind of rank position
group needs, what would they be for the Seahawks.

Speaker 11 (37:35):
Well, I definitely think left guard specifically is a position
to focus in on. I would also mention the in
my opinion, the lack of depth along the defensive line.
I think that is a bit of a concern, lack
of depth and inside linebacker position.

Speaker 8 (37:53):
You know, wide receiver.

Speaker 11 (37:54):
I think you can make the argument that it is
the biggest area of concern for this team other Vans
offensive line. Look, I know, Cooper Cupp is a fantastic
player when he's healthy Ian He's been healthy, playing every
game in the regular season one time in eight crew
eight seasons in the NFL, and so Jackson Smith and Jig.
But one of the reasons why he was avaiable to

(38:15):
the Seahawks have had number twenty overall a couple of
years ago was because he also struggled with your ability. So,
you know, I think that wide receiver is a sneaky
position of concern for the Seahawks. Maybe maybe tight end
as well. So again, everybody's focusing on the offensive line,
and for obvious reasons. But this is a club that
has some holes, and that's why I would argue that

(38:35):
the Seahawks should be looking to use all ten of
their selections rather than try to package them all up
just to get one or two blockers for the interior
to the offensive line.

Speaker 1 (38:44):
All right, let's let's talk about defensive line. First of all,
probably kind of a position of strength if we're talking
about the interior defensive lineman right now for the Seahawks.
I mean, they've drafted Bira Murphy last year, High re
signed Jaron Reid. We saw what Leonard Williams did last
season as well. They got dudes up front there and
Leonard you know, I mean, they got guys. But but
as far as d tackles are, just interior defensive linemen,

(39:06):
is that is that kind of a position to strength
for Seattle right now?

Speaker 8 (39:10):
Well, I think it is.

Speaker 11 (39:11):
But at the same time, you know, with the exception
of Byron Murphy, obviously the first round selection a year ago,
I think he's what twenty one, maybe twenty two years
old at this point. But Jared Reeder, Leonard Williams both
on the wrong side of thirty, you know, and so
those are the kind of guys that, you know, I
think that you want to be developing some young players
behind them.

Speaker 8 (39:31):
Now.

Speaker 11 (39:31):
They're made to be seen if a guy like Mike
Morris can can step up his play, or a guy
like Cameron Young who basically has been missing in action,
you know, since the Seatows made that selection years ago,
if they do not feel that they have two real
contributors in those two players, Morris and Young, that I
do think that defensive tackle is going to be a

(39:53):
position of of need for the Seahawks and also a
position in which there's there's plenty of talent available.

Speaker 8 (40:00):
In fact, I would argue that along with.

Speaker 11 (40:02):
Running back, defensive tackle to me, along with edge rusher,
those are easily the top three positions in this year's
class scene in terms of top end talent as well
as depth.

Speaker 1 (40:12):
Mason Grant from Michigan seems to be the top rated guy.
I'm assuming he'll be gone by eighteen.

Speaker 8 (40:17):
Rob oh, he will be.

Speaker 11 (40:19):
I mean, he's just basically the He's the highest floor
probably of any of the defensive players in this draft
class scene, with the exception of course, of Travis Hunter,
who've talked about so many times so yeah, Mason Graham
U six' four tour ninety six, pounder.

Speaker 8 (40:33):
Two Time All.

Speaker 11 (40:34):
AMERICAN i mean just he's you, know he's more celebrated
than a wedding, cake you. KNOW i, mean he is
a really good, player does everything, well and so that's
why he's not going to be available to The seahawks.

Speaker 1 (40:44):
Unfortunately let's stay With michigan for a. Second his Teammate Kenneth.

Speaker 11 (40:47):
Grant you, Know Kenneth grant's interesting player BECAUSE i think
that there is a possibility he's available to The seahawks
at number eighteen or perhaps even in a trade down.
Scenario you, know he is a player that signed With.
Michigan of, course In Jim harbaugh as as balllyhood of
a recruit as it, gets and you saw flashes of,

(41:08):
it including against of course in The university Of Washington
National championship game a couple of years. Ago he certainly
has the size that you're looking for at that nose
guard positioning six foot, four three hundred and thirty one,
pounds has got long arms thirty three and a half inch.
Arms part of the reason Why i'm a little hesitant
about him is the fact that he's one of those
players that you've heard more than you've actually.

Speaker 8 (41:30):
Seen with.

Speaker 11 (41:30):
Him he was a player that was listed prominently On
Bruce Goldman's FREE i say this with all due respect
freak list as far as the elite athletes and all
of the you, know all of the.

Speaker 8 (41:42):
Country and one of the things that.

Speaker 11 (41:44):
He was supposed to do very very well was list
the bench press and he only had twenty two. Repetitions, now,
again he's got very long, arms but at the same
time he is a guy that flashes rather than consistently.
Dominates but at the same, time there are trades that
are they're pretty excited. About and he is one of
the few interior defensive linemen that gets his arms up

(42:05):
and knocks down passes at The lion. Scrimmage eleven pass
breakups over the last couple of, seasons including a. Sack
we Saw Big Jonathan hankins get one for The seahows
and knows our position a year. AGO i think that
it's easy to See Kenth grant In Seattle's blue And
gray as.

Speaker 1 (42:19):
Well us, go let's talk About Walter nolan From. MISSISSIPPI
i think he's a four to three, Guy is that?

Speaker 11 (42:25):
Right, yeah he's much more of a, penetrator you, know
and now the seahops are using much more of kind.

Speaker 8 (42:30):
Of three four.

Speaker 11 (42:31):
Principles but at the same, time If Walter nolan is
available To, seattle they're they're varied up front enough THAT
i think that they would be intrigued by. Him he's
six foot, four he's two hundred and ninety six, pounds
and he is just so quick off the.

Speaker 8 (42:45):
Ball he's he's. Slippery it's almost like he's got.

Speaker 11 (42:47):
Butter on his uniform that you, know offensive linemen really
struggle to get their hands on him and keep their
hands on.

Speaker 7 (42:54):
Him.

Speaker 11 (42:54):
Uh one of the CONCERNS i have about him is
the fact that he went to The Senior bowl as
this really uh you, know celebrated prospect twenty three tackles
for lost ten and a half sacks over the last two,
years first Team All american last season At Old. Miss
but he goes To Citta bowl and he was just,
okay he wasn't dominant. There he got stuck on an
awful lot of, blocks and that had some people kind,

(43:17):
of you, know raising some concern about him because.

Speaker 8 (43:20):
He played An Old miss and a system.

Speaker 11 (43:22):
That really did have a lot of talent and highly
aggressive blitzing, scheme and maybe it put him in a position,
to you, know kind of inflate his. Numbers so he
is a player THAT i think he's gonna wind up
being a top, ten top twelve kind of a. Selection
but there is a scenario in Which Walter nolan slips
all the way down the, board and BECAUSE i don't

(43:42):
think he's a perfect fit in the, SYSTEM i THINK
siaw might actually decide to look past him as. Well
but at the same, time those big plays that he
creates certainly would be exciting for The.

Speaker 1 (43:52):
Seahawks our friends At oregon as they call It, oregon
have a couple of.

Speaker 2 (43:56):
Guys let's start With Derek.

Speaker 11 (43:58):
Harmon, Well derek Car as one of my seat, crushes
and you, know of, course for years in and you
AND i were doing The Morris trophy conversation and had
there been A pac, twelve a REAL pac twelve this past,
season had there been The Morris trophy this, season there
is no doubt in my mind That Derek carmon would

(44:18):
have won The Morris trophy as the most dominant defensive
lineman in the conference this past. Season and he was
spectacular and he is just he's so. Powerful he's six
foot four and a half three hundred and thirteen. Pounds
he's got very long, arms thirty four and three h int,
arms and that matters along the line of, scrimmage not
only in terms of getting off of, blocks but also

(44:40):
in batting passes down to line of. SCRIMMAGE i mentioned
before With Kenneth grant and the fact that he did
not have very many repetitions to two hundred and twenty five.
Pounds Derek harmon has those very long arms thirty four
and three inchents arms and still wound up WITH i
believe there's twenty six repetitions of two hundred and twenty five,
pounds and so, again just ridiculous strength at the point of.

(45:03):
ATTACK i like his ability to play the nose and
also slide outside and be able to play that five
technique and really set a firm. Edge his versatility to
me is one of the calling. Cards and just again the,
violence the powers which he plays to me just absolutely
Screams mike.

Speaker 1 (45:18):
McDonald does he have a comp that you can think
of that's either played here or somewhere else in THE.

Speaker 2 (45:22):
Nfl, oh let's.

Speaker 11 (45:26):
SEE i think that the one That i've been hearing
the most with teams Is Cameron hayward.

Speaker 8 (45:32):
And with the uh uh you, know and he's been
a long time guy with with The Pittsburgh.

Speaker 11 (45:39):
Steelers, yeah and he's maybe a little bit uh taller
than Than derreck carmonnas although he is almost six foot,
five but He's harmony's a little.

Speaker 8 (45:48):
You, know, beef you're gir fier than.

Speaker 11 (45:50):
THAT i, mean that's the thing where there's not a
lot of guys that have his height that also are
able to play low with the lion scrimmage and be
able to kind of. Dominant the player that he reminds
me of when he's really on track is in dominicant
su And donalkansouo is one of the most dominant players
we've ever seen my.

Speaker 8 (46:06):
Life SO i really hesitate to use that type of a.

Speaker 11 (46:09):
Comparison But i'm telling you And Derek, carmon he may
not get to The, SEAHAWKS i think that he is
very much in play with The San fransco Forty niners
at number eleven. OVERALL i stood shoulder to shoulder with
their general Manager John lynch at The Oregon's Pro day
and you could just see that, again the size of the,
physicality the Nastiest Derek carmon, plays and SO i think

(46:29):
that he is Just taylor made for a division that
wants to run the, football and of course very few
teams want to run the football like the forty nine
ers in The.

Speaker 2 (46:36):
Seahawks all, right let me let me stay With.

Speaker 1 (46:38):
Oregon jamari Called well From oregon is also a guy
THAT i know you're interested.

Speaker 2 (46:43):
In is is he A day two Or day three?
GUY i think that.

Speaker 8 (46:48):
He's probably gonna Be day, three, fourth fifth.

Speaker 11 (46:50):
Round but at the same, time he's the guy that's
got kind of an interesting backstory just because you, know
WHEN i Mentioned Derek carmen, before he originally was In
Michigan state train answers To oregon and you, know have
this unbelievable season this past. Year Jamari caldwell also was a.
Transfer he played two different community, colleges then goes to
The university Of, houston plays there for a couple of.

(47:12):
Years and At houston they want him to be a
little bit of a pass, rusher and he was. That
he's effective eight and a half tackles to, loss six
and a half sacks in twenty twenty, three he comes
To oregon and they want him to play more of
that noseguard role and Allow harmon to be kind of
the guy that makes them big. Plays so he had
any sacks this past, season but he does get his

(47:33):
hands up, into you, know at the point of attack
and is able to knock some passes. Down he's six foot,
two three hundred and thirty two, pounds so he's just
kind of a stumpy kind of a. Guy but he
does not have the athletic tree of the Aforementioned Derek.
Carmer that's why one of them is going to be
a top twenty. Selection the other guy is probably going
to be available in the fourth and fifth.

Speaker 1 (47:53):
Round rob rang brought to you By Ferreli's Pizza frelispizza dot.
Com the draft is six days. Away all the covers
right here ON i three point THREE, kjfm starting in
the afternoon On, thursday all the way till nine pm
on round, one which Is, thursday rounds two and three
On friday again we're on the air till nine. O'clock
that was that night as, well and Then rob AND
i are back with you as our, tradition a tradition

(48:14):
like no. Other Rob breakfast With ian And rob at
The Virginia Mason Athletics center On saturday, morning starting at nine,
am when round four starts in THE Nfl. Draft tell
me about Ty is It Tyleek williams From Ohio?

Speaker 8 (48:26):
State, Yes Kylee williams From Ohio. State is you? Know
he's just an interesting guy because you just.

Speaker 11 (48:33):
Rarely see people who are light on their feet and
yet three hundred and thirty four.

Speaker 8 (48:38):
Pounds but that's exactly What Kyleek williams.

Speaker 11 (48:40):
Is the fact he's almost too light on the speed at,
times he can kind of get a little bit too
narrow for his thick frame and actually kind of get
pushed at the lion scrimmage a little bit more than you'd.
Like you'd like him to play with a little bit
better pad, level stay nice and low and be able
to be that run stuff for in the middle that
his frame would. Suggest at the same, time this is

(49:03):
a four year contributor obviously At Ohio state and eighteen
tackles for lost five and a half stacks over the
last two. Seasons the one of the things that you
have to be careful With Tydy. Williams he's got to
make sure that the medicals. Clean he suffered A i
believe it was a pulled hamstring and relatively safe type

(49:24):
of injury which he's going to be able to come
back from and no. Problems but he suffered it On
march twenty sixth at The Pro, day and so you
just want to make sure that he is in fact.
Healthy if he, Is he's another one THAT i think
that maybe that eighteen might be a little bit, rich
BUT i don't think that he'll be available to The
seahawks at number fifty, overall and again a four year
Contributor Ohio state and plays the passion that he has

(49:46):
always played. WITH i think that he would be a
nice fit for The.

Speaker 1 (49:49):
Seahawks how About i'm assuming he played With Biro murphy last,
Year Alfred collins From.

Speaker 11 (49:54):
Texas, Yeah and that's actually one of the things That
i'm excited about is the possibility kind of Reuniting Bier
murphy the second with Another texas, player whether it Be
Alfred collins or any of the other host Of longhorns
that are going to be available in this year's.

Speaker 8 (50:12):
Class And collins is a guy that just has so
many intriguing, Traits.

Speaker 11 (50:18):
LIKE i was just kind of you, know gushing About
Derek carmon From oregon. Before and in his, size his,
LENGTH i Mean Alfred collins being six foot, six three
hundred and thirty two, pounds thirty four and five h inch,
arms the longest arms of any defensive tackles that we're talking,
about ten inch. Hands he's got absolute meat cleavers for
hands as, well and he basically backed up everybody else

(50:41):
At texas over the last couple of. Seasons and it
wasn't Just Byron, murphy of, course it Was devandre's sweat as.
Well When collins finally got his opportunity this past, season
he was. Unbelievable fifty five tackles this last, year five
and a half tackles for lost again get his hands
up in the, air seven pass, breakups a block, kick
only one sack this past. Year that's not his game

(51:02):
you asked For collins. Before to, me he is a
more in Shape Red. BRYANT i like him best as
the five technique on the outside set in the edge
rather than.

Speaker 8 (51:12):
Just playing the.

Speaker 11 (51:12):
Middle but you, know my buddy Land, zerlie he writes
the profiles FOR nfl Dot. Com he's A houston area.
Native he's certainly is going to be very familiar at
The university Of, texas and he believes That collins might
wind up someday being the best defensive tackle from this.
CLASS i think The collins is going to wind up
going somewhere in the second. Round of, course The seahawks
have number fifty and number fifty two. Overall this is

(51:34):
the type of traits based kind of a prospect and
again the familiarity With Bier murphy the second that The
seahawks might find just two enticing to pass.

Speaker 1 (51:42):
Up i'm gonna date both of. Us Wasn't Red bryant
draft of the first year you AND i started working
together the first YEAR i met?

Speaker 8 (51:47):
You oh that might have been the. Case, Yeah Big. Red,
yes we'll have to see too What Big red's doing
at this, point and that will truly date.

Speaker 1 (51:56):
Us, well, yeah we're doing the same. Thing so, YEAH
i don't know What Big big reds. Retired that's how
long we've. Been Big red's, coming, gone won A Super
bowl and he's out of. Here he's, thanks thanks for.
Coming let me get to. It i'm gonna throw some
other names at, you and you just kind of pick
up who you want to hit on the last couple
three minutes that we have here. Together Rob rang joinings,
again brought to you By Ferrelli's Pizza Farelli's pizza Dot.

(52:17):
Com There's Joshua farmer From Florida, State Darius alexander From,
Colorado Ty robinson From, nebraska And Savan Shamar turner From
TEXAS a and M who of those guys one or
two of those guys fits With seattle wants the?

Speaker 11 (52:32):
Best, well they all really, do to be, HONEST i,
mean Josh farmer is one of my favorite players in this.

Speaker 8 (52:38):
Class he's just so aptly. NAMED i Mean, FARMER i
think of like a blue collar worker and that's his.
GAME i mentioned. Before it's a really long.

Speaker 11 (52:46):
Arms he's got thirty four and a half inch arms,
himself twenty six, repetitions and he's got a crazy. Backstory,
tragically his father passed away when he was just a,
baby his mother passed away when he was, eleven and
he's got six older siblings and so he's kind of
the baby of the, family which is hard to believe

(53:06):
when you're six foot, three three hundred and five. Pounds
it's that type of of having to go through horrible
situations early in your life That John scheider in the.
Past of, Course Pete carroll have always. Prioritized varmer is
exactly a type of blue collar type of player THAT
i know that The seahawks absolutely, love and he is
another player that had a strong performance at The Senior.

Speaker 8 (53:27):
Bowl i'd be remiss IF i didn't Mention.

Speaker 11 (53:29):
Ty robinson From nebraska in because again this is arguably
the most violent and just highly competitive player on this entire,
list and that's saying awful.

Speaker 8 (53:39):
LOT i also.

Speaker 11 (53:39):
Mentioned because he had some foot some fullback, experience they
used him just not so much as a, blocker actually
as a. Runner was very effective in that. Way he's
six foot five eighty eight, pounds so he's a little
bit taller and the. Leaner but again he can play
that that five technique position and he had seven ten pass.

Speaker 8 (53:59):
Breakups over the last couple of.

Speaker 11 (54:00):
Seasons so again another one of those guys that uses
his arm length to his. Advantage, Finally Shamar turner From
texas and everybody talking About Shamar, stewarts But Shamar turner
is actually the more reliable football, player and he plays
with a violence and and you know at time to
get out of control me he actually had too, many
too many times got personal fouls this past season For

(54:20):
TEXAS a AND, m and actually didn't have the production
this year that he had the year.

Speaker 8 (54:24):
Before but you, know for.

Speaker 11 (54:26):
A, team A seahawks team that doesn't just focus in
on what they did this past, season sometimes they found
some of the diamond and the rough types of guys
with guys.

Speaker 8 (54:34):
In the production they had in the.

Speaker 11 (54:35):
Past Chamar turner is definitely won on day two THAT
i think that a lot of people are forgetting. About
BUT i assure you he's gonna wind up being a
very productive player in THE.

Speaker 1 (54:44):
Nfl and the bottom line is, this as you're going
through these, guys AND i think you hear this all
the time right FROM nfl, teams you can't have enough defensive.
Lineman you're rotating guys through and all, that and you're
telling me an already position of strength For seattle could
get even stronger this.

Speaker 8 (54:57):
YEAR i very.

Speaker 11 (54:59):
Much believe it will. BE i would be stunned if
The seahawks don't take a defensive. Lineman and within their
first say five fix of, course they got the first
five picks in the top one hundred two picks in
the second round two picks in the third. Round town
this effected tackle. Class see it's just rich. Enough AND
i do again think that this is a position of
group that The seahawks have some big names but unfortunately

(55:20):
have a lot of years under their. BELT i think
The Sea owks would be wise to get some young
blood at that.

Speaker 1 (55:26):
POSITION i will see you in six days, time, sir
at The Virginia Mason Athletics, center and we'll.

Speaker 2 (55:33):
See a lot of each. Other but that's.

Speaker 1 (55:35):
Okay nobody does the draft better than our, Guy Rob
rang and we're thrilled to have you back on. BOARD
i know you've been doing stuff at the morning. SHOW
i think you'll be on with them Next, tuesday and
then we'll see you Next, Thursday, Friday saturday morning. AGAIN
i just plan, like if you're A seahawks, fan you
might want to watch the Draft saturday morning at nine
o'clock when it starts for day. THREE i would HAVE
kjr on in the, background because if you want the

(55:55):
Actual seahawks centric, stuff my guy right here will be
riding shotgun until us all about what they, got what they've,
done and what they'll be doing as. Well of course
he'll be with us On thursday And friday nights as.
Well Thanks, Rob thank you always pick Sure rob rang joining.
Us we'll check the text line coming up next ninety
three point THREE. Kjfm you're listening.

Speaker 10 (56:18):
To the home of The, husky The kreken And seattle's
BEST Nfl draft coverage gen the twenty twenty FIVE Nfl.
Draft now back To Ian, fernez probably brought to you
By Snowballmy casino on Sports radio ninety three point three KJR.

Speaker 1 (56:33):
Fm backus, Football me casino And. Hotel hotel opening up this.
Summer sportsbook is. Here they got off. Track best at
betting for horse RACING otv starting, tomorrow which is a
huge deal up here after sports books will come check it.
Out basketball and hockey playoffs this weekend as. Well lots going,

(56:54):
on lots to do up here At Snoqualite. Casino speaking of,
Basketball Adam silver was on Yesterday pat McAfee show addressed expansion.
RUMORS i, thought you know what's pinbly not a bad
thing to do is to listen to the entire answer
he gave to the question about when or if expansion will.

Speaker 5 (57:15):
Happen in terms of, expansion we try not to look
at it every, year just because we don't want to
be too much of a. Distraction What i've been saying
for the last several, years we knew we needed to
get a new collective bargaining agreement. Done we, did we
needed a new media deal to get. Done did. That
we've locked in our television rights for eleven, years and

(57:35):
so now that those things are, done we're just beginning
a process so internally at The league of exploring the
opportunity to. EXPAND i will say sometimes on the outside
it looks like a no brainer because it seems like
you're printing money to. Expand but, again AS i, said
you're really selling equity in the. League you have thirty
teams that own the, league and now you're saying we're

(57:56):
gonna have thirty two teams that own the. League so
you're diluting the economic interest of all the thirty. Teams
and so we're looking hard at. It we're sort of
modeling it for lack of better terms in The league. Office,
look there's no doubt there's been interest In Las. Vegas
seattle have been very public about it that it was
a market that was fantastic for the league that we

(58:18):
left at the time for understandable, reasons but there's no
doubt that there continues to be enormous passion in that
market for THE. Nba so we're looking at those markets and.
OTHERS i think as we get into the, summer we'll
get into a more formal process of how we go
about doing. IT i don't want to say it's a
foregone conclusion that we're going to, expand BUT i also

(58:39):
think over, time organizations tend to, grow AND i look
at the success of those markets for Other major league teams,
now and so it's easy to present a scenario where
you can see it working successfully for the.

Speaker 2 (58:54):
League, okay just quick thought from ujess on.

Speaker 4 (59:00):
HEARD i hear nothing EXCEPT i don't expect him to
say anything different than what he's saying right. NOW i,
THINK i don't know if it's widely, known but at
least behind the, scenes we've all kind of understood the
fact that he is going to wait until he doesn't want.

Speaker 2 (59:16):
To do thirty one thirty.

Speaker 4 (59:17):
Two even THE, nhl, though prove that that is completely
doable and it's still the same two.

Speaker 2 (59:23):
Markets they just did it in.

Speaker 4 (59:24):
Reverse seattle's Ready vegas Isn't vegas was Ready seattle wasn't,
yet and they were able to make that.

Speaker 2 (59:30):
WORK i just don't, ready being building, wise.

Speaker 4 (59:32):
Building, wise ready to have a team and, yes a
venue in which to play. IN i don't expect him
to say anything different, there BUT i do like that
the conversation is still happening AND i didn't hear anything
negative in. There when it comes to the return of The,
SONICS i just think that as much patience as that
this fan base has, given we're asking for more and
that can be frustrating to a certain extent in the.

Speaker 1 (59:55):
Building by the, way that my understanding is that they
don't want, you AND i say they the people that
would be the potential owners don't In, vegas would rather
have their own building as opposed to playing a team. Mobile,
yes arena where The Vegas Golden knights. Play anders you
hear anything new in there that jumps out of?

Speaker 3 (01:00:11):
You nothing?

Speaker 6 (01:00:11):
New but to, me this sounds like him explaining himself
why it's taking so.

Speaker 3 (01:00:17):
Long and that's kind of WHAT i got from.

Speaker 6 (01:00:19):
That and he keeps trying to justify, IT i, think
to the, fans because he knows That seattle has been
waiting a. While that's why he named Us by name
and said there's been passion in that. Market SO i
think he's just trying to explain why this is taking
so long to The seattle fans and.

Speaker 4 (01:00:34):
Maybe call the fears that it's not going to, happen,
Right that's that's kind of WHAT i get from that.
Too like Mentioned seattle by, name that means quelling the
fears of people being, like, well we've been burned, before you,
know with the Whole Chris hansen, situation when we thought
we were getting The, kings that whole, thing Then sodo
getting shut, down all of. That we everyone was so,

(01:00:54):
Hopeful so maybe just keeping the fire, going you know that.

Speaker 1 (01:00:59):
The and as what was the first thing you just,
said him explaining himself why it's taken so? Long, OKAY
i wonder how much of that is there are owners
that don't want to do. It, YEAH i hadn't really
given much thought to it before because there's a no
brainer in terms of what the expansion fees are going to, be,

(01:01:19):
RIGHT i, mean if you're talking somewhere between four and
six billion dollars times, two so we're talking eight to
twelve billion dollars with thirty, ways that's.

Speaker 2 (01:01:31):
A whole lot of.

Speaker 1 (01:01:32):
Money, yeah but as he, mentioned then there's you, know
everyone gets cut of the pie as far as the media,
writes revenues and things like, that get more people to share,
with more people to share, with and so you've got
to balance all that money out and you're not going
to have teams come into the. League this isn't like
college sports where you're gonna get you, know Like washington
And oregon Or cal And. STANFORD i think are even

(01:01:54):
worse off in THE accu with a partial share going
to a new. Conference you know this this is an
exten extent to that sort Of, uh they're gonna get
a full. Share so maybe there is a little bit of.
That he's got to do some maneuvering with other.

Speaker 2 (01:02:07):
Owners you would love for them to get out. It
what then at?

Speaker 1 (01:02:14):
It, well, YEAH i don't know. That, yeah that NEVER i,
MEAN i don't know if there is or. Not i'm
just trying to leave between the. Lines it could be.

Speaker 4 (01:02:19):
A part of it, though with him having to maneuver like.

Speaker 1 (01:02:22):
You you, Know Tim booth tweeted yesterday AND i guess
maybe this is the one piece that's a little. New he,
says you, know it's the first time That silver notes
a formal process on expansion could start this. Summer he
did say that for we we could start a formal expansion.
Process that just means more of a. Committee it's kind
of laughable when he says it's not something we'd want
to discuss every. Year, well, internally you're discussing it every.

(01:02:45):
Year the Second Climate pledge got broke. Round the very
second it broke, round that was being, discussed. Right David
bonderman sat in our production studio the day of the
season ticket drive and talked about THE nba and having
discussions With Adam silver with. ME i remember that. Conversation
we've got it somewhere on. Tape IT'S i remember that
they talk about and they've and Don't so do you

(01:03:06):
think like two years went by or a year went
by without that being. Discussed, no of, course not. Talk
they talk about it all the. TIME i just wonder.

Speaker 2 (01:03:16):
It's going to.

Speaker 1 (01:03:17):
HAPPEN i mentioned this in the first, hour AND i
think IT'S i hope it's a decent. Analogy But Purple
sheet brought it.

Speaker 2 (01:03:24):
UP i think.

Speaker 1 (01:03:24):
IT'S i think he's. Right this is you, know we're
closer and. Closer we're four years into the hockey. Team
four years into the building being. Built the media rights
deal is stillver noted is, DONE cba, done all that,
stuff all the little, Hurdle the biggest hurdle was the.
Building the next hurdle along the way was with media
rights deals and all that. STUFF i wonder if and

(01:03:48):
What Purple sheet said is. True and we're all talking
about this the other. Day because we're getting closer and
closer and there is a light at the end of the,
tunnel it becomes harder and harder to be, Patient, yes
as a fan, base and that's. Understandable it's like anything.
Else the closer you get to something, good the longer
the weight. Seems, yeah and that's what it feels like right.
Now the closer we, get the longer the wait it.

(01:04:08):
Seems it also feels like if they're going to quote
start the process a formal process ON nba expansion to
discuss this, summer we're looking at least at twenty twenty. Seven,
yeah at least at twenty twenty, seven the fall of
twenty seven for that. Team, now same, time there's good
news for the hockey, team which will be heavily involved

(01:04:29):
in it Because Sam hallway is going to be potentially
what if not the main owner were the key owners
in it and partners in. It that gives a hockey
team two more years to establish themselves and get themselves
back into The Stanley cup. PLAYOFFS i mean two years
ago we were sitting here on the custom of THE nhl.
Playoffs this town was on. Fire, Yeah Like it's the
one thing That calkins wrote in his column the other
day THAT i agreed. With, yeah two years, ago this

(01:04:51):
place was a hockey tener was going. Nuts we saw
that in THE tv ratings and certainly in the radio.
Ratings we saw that in chatter on the, radio everything.
Else they need to get back to that. Level so
that does buy them some. Time BUT i think an ideal, world,
financially they'd like to have both here right. Now but
it feels like we're a couple of years.

Speaker 2 (01:05:07):
Away all, right anything, Else we're. Good we're.

Speaker 3 (01:05:10):
Good we're.

Speaker 2 (01:05:11):
GOOD i did want to read one. TEXT i just
want to read.

Speaker 8 (01:05:14):
One got to get.

Speaker 2 (01:05:17):
You get The Keith miller. One i'll read the one.
HERE i got? It hang, on where is? It we
couldn't find the sound Which i'm still.

Speaker 3 (01:05:25):
LOOKING i.

Speaker 1 (01:05:26):
CAN'T i think it's it was in the old old
studio two or. Three this is in reference the Great
Jim harbaugh quote when The seahawks were playing them on
A thursday night years. Ago he's asked, about you, know
how different is it playing on A? Thursday so he
in day, one two and through the draft or before day?
One six days from day, one you, said five days
away from day, two four days away from day. Three,

(01:05:48):
Yeah i'm Like Jim, harbaugh, man today is like A,
Tuesday tuesdays like A, Wednesday thursdays like A, Friday fridays
like A.

Speaker 2 (01:05:55):
Sunday, yeah that's what we're. At we have we have
No keith. TODAY i Think keith Takes friday's.

Speaker 4 (01:06:01):
All he's off and he's not stuck by a radio right.
Now so we're gonna give this one To ben over
under onund humill And Draft da peanut butter and jelly.

Speaker 2 (01:06:10):
Sandwiches could sup he didn't have his money last.

Speaker 4 (01:06:12):
Year we're setting the number at four and a. HALF
i only counted three last. Year, Yeah, NOW i was
trying to take a picture of each of.

Speaker 2 (01:06:17):
Them, yeah it was a. Three so he said three,

Speaker 2 (01:06:33):
Away walk through the.

Speaker 7 (01:06:34):
Door turn.

Speaker 2 (01:06:34):
Around he's right. There oh that's What i'll be.

Speaker 4 (01:06:35):

Speaker 2 (01:06:37):
Join us coming up.

Speaker 12 (01:06:38):
Next all, right we need new music like from Soft
he's not.

Speaker 2 (01:06:51):
Here, yeah we need we need fain. Music we need
do need fain? Music fame.

Speaker 1 (01:06:55):
Modi, okay i'd say what do you? Want but we
we're still restricted.

Speaker 6 (01:06:58):
Now right before we can do we are library genre
work on. That he's, uh figuring out his stuff in the.
Studio just walked, in just walked. In now he's got
his head. Set what kind of music SHOULD i? Have
can we play?

Speaker 13 (01:07:11):
Anything jackson, says we can't play anything on the radio
stations all.

Speaker 4 (01:07:14):
Illegal so well we can we can go with a
genre like if you like, rock if you like, country
if you like hip, hop if you like smooth, jazz.

Speaker 2 (01:07:22):
Can a little bit of rock and? Roll, yeah whatever you?

Speaker 3 (01:07:24):
Want Nice PULLY i like.

Speaker 2 (01:07:28):
That you, know it's.

Speaker 13 (01:07:30):
Funny the REASON i was late in, HERE i was
arguing with the with the boss about Should julio hit
first or second?

Speaker 3 (01:07:35):
First i'm a lead.

Speaker 13 (01:07:37):
Off i'm a lead off. Guy to, Yes Purple sheet says,
No why Purple. No he says he's not a disciplined
enough hitter to leave to, lead which IS i, mean
let's let's face.

Speaker 2 (01:07:46):
It he ain't.

Speaker 14 (01:07:46):
Wrong it's not Like julio is the most disciplined hitter
in the.

Speaker 6 (01:07:49):
World BUT i think him batting leadoff makes him a
more disciplined.

Speaker 3 (01:07:53):
Hitter, well it changes his.

Speaker 2 (01:07:54):
Approach that was my.

Speaker 1 (01:07:55):
Point let's look at the bigger picture, here. Fellas Take
julio out of his. Car let's look at the bigger picture.
Here that's two times this week that we've referenced a
purple sheet sports. TAKE i did it earlier on the show,
today BUT i gave him credit because it was actually
a good.

Speaker 13 (01:08:10):
One we get bush when we mentioned purple seat sports.

Speaker 14 (01:08:15):
Takes do we get bonuses in the.

Speaker 2 (01:08:16):
Paycheck if they're, Good and that's just, rare so we're
gonna go.

Speaker 7 (01:08:19):
Broke BUT.

Speaker 2 (01:08:21):
I did give him. Credit he had a good one,
earlier so he got one for the, Week so that's not.

Speaker 4 (01:08:25):
Bad.

Speaker 2 (01:08:26):
Nice, nice that's not. Bad that's not. Bad, YEAH i
don't know what's.

Speaker 13 (01:08:30):
On your mind, today but you, know you can't really
hear the speaker all that well Out AND i was
listening to you were saying something About Adam, silver AND
i couldn't tell whether or not you were encouraged by
what you heard From Adam silver or you were not.

Speaker 14 (01:08:44):
ENCOURAGED i.

Speaker 1 (01:08:46):
WAS i was, like no matter what he, says it
means nothing to me right. NOW i think everything's been. Determined,
YES i don't think there's anything that he can say
outside of we're not going to expand at this time
and not for the near future and probably not for
the next five or ten. Years if he said, that
then they, say, oh that's that's worth listening.

Speaker 2 (01:09:04):
To that's anything else he. SAYS i don't, believe like
when he's because.

Speaker 14 (01:09:07):
It's A fata complete, RIGHT i, mean, yeah you believe
it's A fata.

Speaker 1 (01:09:10):
COMPLAINT i believe it's a done. Deal AND i think
what they're waiting. FOR i my speculation is this what
they're waiting for is AND i did get this out
of it yesterday with him when he was. TALKING i
almost wonder if there's some pushback from some owners in the.
League That's that's the only Thing i'm wondering right, now
because he made some veiled reference to you, know like

(01:09:33):
there it's.

Speaker 14 (01:09:34):
Thirty versus thirty.

Speaker 2 (01:09:35):
Two, yeah that's the only.

Speaker 1 (01:09:37):
Thing that the MORE i thought about, it that was
the only thing this dick that kind of jumped out at,
me because is there pushback from somebody in the league
that Can't, look, now you're talking between two teams somewhere
between ten and twelve billion dollars to be distributed between thirty.

Speaker 2 (01:09:51):
Teen, yes that seems to trump a lot OF tv
deal money.

Speaker 13 (01:09:54):
Right, WELL i THINK i think there are owners that
were a little bit, Hesitant BUT i think the the
size of the check that they are going to receive
that they wouldn't have received had this happened five years,
ago is going to make up for cutting the pie
one to one out of thirty to one out of thirty. Two,

(01:10:16):
YES i mean that check is going to be, Huge
like you, said it's gonna be ten million or tell
ten billion dollars Between vegas And seattle split thirty other.

Speaker 14 (01:10:27):
Ways that is a massive.

Speaker 1 (01:10:29):
Check, Yeah, YEAH i BUT i, think, honestly Like jess
mentioned this, too AND i think it's. True you, Know,
Vegas seattle's. Ready seattle's been ready since two thousand and
twenty one when they opened up THE, uh when they
opened up The climate.

Speaker 13 (01:10:44):
Plageriina, Right And i'm glad you mentioned that because a
lot of people, say, well we've been waiting since two
thousand and, Eight, no we really. Haven't we've been waiting
since twenty twenty one because we didn't have a place
to play before.

Speaker 1 (01:10:55):
THAT i think sometimes it's, forgotten because it's a good,
point you. MAD i think sometimes has forgotten that the
reason the team. Left, okay outside Of howard's a punk
and everything, else the building wasn't, Adequate that's. Right and
if you think anybody that can now still, remember anybody

(01:11:15):
who can remember the WHICH i mighta call It Key,
Arena if you can remember, it then you know now
compared To Climate Plage, arena how inadequate it. Was of,
course so in every, way in every single. Way and
it was inadequate the day it opened in nineteen ninety,
four whenever the hell it, opened, yes, right ninety, six
it was ninety, four six ninety.

Speaker 2 (01:11:38):
FIVE i, thought, fuck was it? No ninety? Six ninety? Six,
RIGHT i thought it was.

Speaker 14 (01:11:42):
NOT i THINK i think it's close for ninety.

Speaker 3 (01:11:43):
FIVE i have to look up.

Speaker 1 (01:11:45):
Thought whenever it opened it became because it opened the
same years as the As United center In chicago And
Rose garden Slash Modu center In.

Speaker 13 (01:11:52):
Portland oh, no because ninety five. Didn't didn't coma dome
leak in the ninety five?

Speaker 2 (01:11:57):
Playoffs yeah that sounds.

Speaker 13 (01:11:58):
Right, yeah, yes come that we're playing At. Comado we
had we had we had something something leaked in the
in The coma doome and get started to rain on the.

Speaker 14 (01:12:07):
Court, classic you, Know so, yeah that was so you're
probably right ninety.

Speaker 1 (01:12:11):
Six, YEAH i, mean it's JUST i don't, Know, dick
it's it's it's IT'S i think that There's October october ninety,
yeah and that day was. Opened it was obsolete.

Speaker 14 (01:12:26):
Season that was pretty good.

Speaker 1 (01:12:27):
Season but but the thing is is, that, like so
what we're. Ready the problem Is vegas isn't because the
ownership group that again that THE nba hasn't officially talked,
To that is the ownership group is going to own the, team,
uh that they haven't talked. To according To, Adam, silver
which they have talked, to doesn't want to play in
T mobile. Arena they want they want their own. Building

(01:12:47):
it's an Oak few building and it's south of south of.
Town they're waiting to get that thing. Going and that's
that's what they're waiting for right, now you. Know and
and people, say, well why can't they play in Tam
mobile because it's revenue and they don't want.

Speaker 2 (01:12:57):
To it's an ownership group and you're In.

Speaker 1 (01:12:59):
Vegas you can actually build buildings, there Unlike, seattle where that's.
Right it took an act Of god And Tim laiwiki
and some foresight to actually get this thing. Built SO
i don't, know, man it's uh When silver, speaks unless
he really says, hey unless he says we're expanding tomorrow
or we're never going to. EXPAND i think everything he
says we all know.

Speaker 2 (01:13:17):
Already.

Speaker 13 (01:13:18):
YEAH i think he told you everything that somebody would
tell you if they know the outcome, already but they
didn't want to tell you that the outcome was.

Speaker 2 (01:13:24):
Final AND i would also believe.

Speaker 1 (01:13:26):
THAT i think if they're going to start conversations in,
summer let's say it goes really fast and by the
fall they announced. It we're still probably looking at early
as at twenty twenty.

Speaker 2 (01:13:35):
Sex that's.

Speaker 1 (01:13:35):
Correct you're not going to, say, hey, guys good. Luck
you're going to a draft here and spring at twenty
twenty six and play in twenty twenty six as. Well
so put together scouting, staff basketball seasons underway and all that.

Speaker 2 (01:13:47):
Stuff ye, Know i've.

Speaker 14 (01:13:48):
