Speaker 1 (00:00):
Oh, come on, man, the Cubs get the leadoff, got Andrews.
I swear, don't let me. I think you let me
astray with both these.

Speaker 2 (00:07):
Okay, well if I get one of them right and
the other wrong.

Speaker 1 (00:10):
And I'll be happy, Okay, I'll be all right, Yeah, yeah,
I'll be happy at that point. Marriers tonight taking on
the San Diego Padres the Vetter Cup. Tim Booth Big
Pearl jam Fan wrote a story on it. Tim didn't read.

Speaker 3 (00:22):
It isn't isn't Eddie Vedder or a Cubs guy like
he was the big hole thing with the twenty sixteen team.

Speaker 1 (00:28):
He was like, dude, we make stuff up like it's
just we're making stuff up here.

Speaker 4 (00:33):
I think that.

Speaker 1 (00:33):
I think the crux of his story was nobody knew
who Eddie Vedder was or something out or the Cup was.
It was Yeah, I mean, these guys are young, they
don't we do care about about the baseball team. They'll
starting out kind of a pivotal road trip for them.
They've got the San Diego Series this weekend. Then they
do get the aforementioned White Sox that helps a little bit,
and then a big four game set with the Astros

(00:55):
and and it's kind of it. I don't think they're
they're they're not. They're not a different team than we've
seen all year. It's a pretty good baseball team. I
think we can see that this is a good baseball team.

Speaker 4 (01:06):
If they're healthy.

Speaker 1 (01:07):
There's some Yeah, at some point it was going to
catch up to them. At some point, it was going
to catch up to them. You you just can't keep first.
You know, Like we don't even talk really about like
Raley and Robos that much. It's basically all about the
pitchers that are out right. And you know, I think
in that case, honestly, Anders maybe like offensively we saw

(01:27):
the last couple of days, those are two guys that
can really be catalyst for your offense. Yeah, and you
take those guys out and all of a sudden, you're
going down that list of guys that you've got in
that lineup and they're just I mean, it's it's a
bunch of quad a guys. Yeah, Dylan Moore should not
be an everyday player. The whole Gold Glove thing is,
And for being honest, it's kind of stupid. It's a

(01:48):
participation trophy. You're the you're the best at a bunch
of things, but not great at anything. But we're gonna
give you a title. No, like he cost them a
game already this week. It's just they need to get healthy.
But if they are healthy, pretty good baseball team. And
the fact they're still holding on. And I think we've
talked about this before with both Chris and Nathan on Mondays.

(02:08):
The best thing about it is the division you're in. Yes,
like you're just not in a good division. The two
Texas teams, Rangers and Astros are there, and it probably
will be a three team race.

Speaker 4 (02:20):
But if healthy, Seattle's a better team.

Speaker 3 (02:22):
Yeah, And like, not just the division, it's the whole league,
the American League as a whole. I think the marriag
is just probably just played against the best team in
the American League and the New York Yankees. And besides
the first game, you could you could throw up the
last two games as anything. If you put a seven
game series between those two teams, I don't I don't
think I could call a winner at this point. And
the Yankees are probably slightly better during the regular season,
but I take Mariner's pitching if they're healthy over all

(02:44):
those guys that the Yankees have so yeah, it's it's
a positive sign. We had Tdy Danganzols on with uh.

Speaker 4 (02:50):
Yeah, I heard a little bit that said he's not great.

Speaker 3 (02:52):
But yeah, with Mark James at eleven o'clock. He's the
host of the Locked On Mariners podcast. Now, just for
anyone who doesn't know, there's two kind of things. You
got the daily podcast that's the one he hosts, and
then me and Chris do the postcast, which is right
after the Mariner game. So the idea is that you
kind of listen to the daily podcast to kind of
get a bigger picture view of things, and then me
and Chris react to the game that just happened. But

(03:13):
he hopped on and was saying, like, part of what
made this offense so good for so long was the
bottom third of the order, which you could never expect
to happen. The Leo revases, the Miles Master bonies, even
the uh if you're throwing Dylan Moore in.

Speaker 2 (03:27):
There as well.

Speaker 3 (03:27):
Sure overperforming a lot of the back of their baseball cards.
So I think that was masking a lot of what
we were missing with Victor Robos and Luke Raley, and
that's come down to earth recently. But at the same time,
you're getting slightly better from Julio Rodriguez. I think he's
starting to warm up a little bit. He had a
good series against the Yankees. I like where Cal Rawley
is just as a whole, He's just going to be

(03:47):
in that spot. You get a little regression from Jorge Polonco.
You just need those guys back healthy.

Speaker 1 (03:52):
I meany Polanco's gonna not do what he's done all year,
and Cal's not gonna hit home runs at the same
rate he's done the first month and a half of
the season. But you you pick up the rest of
the pieces and get a couple of guys back healthy,
and it's it's a whole different world.

Speaker 4 (04:04):
Uh I.

Speaker 1 (04:05):
I by the way, uh watch, we got we got it.
We'll have a PGA Championship update here in just a
couple of seconds. There's some big names. I'm gonna miss
the cut this weekend. I saw a great line today
is I'm just going on. I'm I'll be honest with you.
I do the show up the sports book. I'm very distracted,
you think, so I'm watching I'm watching the golf tournament here.
I was laughing because this is a great thing that

(04:26):
They won't mention this in our Westwood one updates, but
they call Quail Hollow the Kardashian of golf courses. Why
is that just kind of a lot of makeup, a
lot of a lot of fluff, not a lot of substance.
It looks like a fun course. Yes, I think a
hundred Mayheon's the one that called it that. Now so now,
ever since I read that this morning in the Athletic,

(04:47):
and ever since that, I'm out. I'm fascinated by this.
I'm like, it's it's it looks like a really cool course.
But maybe it is all fake and and you know
it's what we're seeing is not real. Yeah, the Cardiash
of the courses. Daniel Neil's going to join us in
just a few minutes. Always a fun conversation with him.
How do you Wantney at two o'clock today? Tonight's game
is on Apple TV. I think we're all past the

(05:10):
screaming in the yelling when games aren't on what we're
normally used to having them on.

Speaker 2 (05:14):
Do you want the Mariners in the national spotlight or not?

Speaker 1 (05:17):
I do well, I think even more so than that,
because I'm anti national broadcast.

Speaker 4 (05:23):
For some things. Like okay, like like the cracket. I'd
rather do our own badcast.

Speaker 2 (05:27):
That's fair.

Speaker 4 (05:27):
I think we're better.

Speaker 1 (05:28):
But in the case of yeah, what you're saying with
the Mariners, I'm gonna ask him or ask her, ask
Heidi about him him being Julio Rodriguez. Yeah, because I
know MG in the Midday is not a fan of Julio,
and I know he's not alone.

Speaker 4 (05:41):
I know there's others. We've We've had that conversation on Malli.

Speaker 1 (05:43):
Wat mondays that for whatever reason, this guy's a polarizing figure,
and there are people in this market, not just Mark,
but others that just they he's kind of a target
for criticism. Yeah, I for the life and we can't
get it. I don't understand now if you're looking at,
you know, living up to a contract. I don't know
how many baseball players actually do live up to their contract.

(06:06):
Well that's frond the minimum.

Speaker 3 (06:07):
And I don't know, we have to don't have a
ton of time for this. But he's not getting paid
like a superstar. He only gets paid like a superstar
if he hits the incentives, which means he is playing
like a superstar. That means he's getting MVP votes and
all that stuff, and the base of contract's like twenty
million dollars.

Speaker 1 (06:22):
What's is it the WRC plus or the war stat
that he is the fourth best center fielder in the
history of the game at this point in his career.

Speaker 2 (06:29):
I think it's war because it includes defense WRC plus
just offense.

Speaker 1 (06:33):
Yes, and it's like he's up there with the best
and the greatest of the game. In fact, he's got
a higher one than King Griffy Junior had at this point.

Speaker 2 (06:42):
He's still only twenty four.

Speaker 1 (06:44):
Like he's he's better than Griffy in terms of that
at that age. Yeah, I'm a fan. I think, you know,
I know there's times when you get frustrated with him,
but my god, he's the least of your problems.

Speaker 4 (06:55):
He's he's the solution for your baseball team.

Speaker 1 (06:58):
We'll ask Katie about him, ask her about you mentioned
that you know you want your team on national TV. Yeah,
let's get a national perspective. Thought on Cal Rawley, what's
the thought on Julio Rodriguez? Will get that from Heidi
coming up at two o'clock today after we check in
with Danie O'Neil stand by. We've got a PGA Championship
update coming up right now, and like I said, looks
like there are some big names in danger of missing

(07:19):
the cut this weekend. Let's get to that and then
we'll check in with Danny O'Neill coming up next.

Speaker 5 (07:27):

Speaker 1 (07:53):
I love these weekly visits with my friend Danie O'Neil.
Best damn sports writing you're gonna get for Seattle outside
out of Seattle. It's emanating from New York and he
is with us right now. Hello, sir, how are you?

Speaker 6 (08:05):
I'm good?

Speaker 7 (08:05):
How are you ian?

Speaker 4 (08:06):
I'm good?

Speaker 1 (08:06):
Sitting in a sportsbook getting bad advice from my producer
Anderson Hurrish, buddy, Like I'm telling you bad advice so
far it's eight to.

Speaker 4 (08:14):
Three Cubs right now? All right? All right, Dan, is
it is it? Do you think it signals a problem
betting on the Chicago White Sox.

Speaker 7 (08:22):
As long as you're not as long as you're not
betting on the Colorado Rockies.

Speaker 8 (08:26):
You also you got to excuse andrews Man.

Speaker 7 (08:29):
He is on the back end of a double shift,
is hopped up off calfe in and like he's got
the strong sense of a weekend coming on.

Speaker 6 (08:38):
That guy's out of his gorg.

Speaker 1 (08:39):
He's got he just had three hours of MJ in
the midday. Like, just go, who's got more energy than
Softy does? So I can understands. Yeah, unbelievable. Really, it's
shocking development. It's wild they've got they got these two guys.
I'm sandwiched in between. I've got the energy of a
ninety year old. These two guys are hopped up on
like million grams of caffeine. Although Softy won't go to

(09:02):
Starbucks still because of the sonics. So all right, let's uh.
I want to get to my favorite topic. I can't
get enough of mister unlimited. I'll get to him in
a second though, And we got some great audio on
a play We've got For those who don't know, mister
Unlimited is now in Danny's current residence in the current
hometown of New York City. We'll get to him in
a heartbeat. First of all, speaking to New York, we

(09:23):
just saw the Yankees rolling here and take two or
three from the little s Marinaros. Boy, Danny, I'll say
Aaron Judge, like I like watching greatness, and I like
watching historical things happen. We might be watching that with
Aaron Judge.

Speaker 7 (09:37):
He is in a time when people are now willing
to let someone back to ten as long as they hit.

Speaker 8 (09:44):
Thirty five bombs.

Speaker 4 (09:45):
Yep.

Speaker 7 (09:46):
That dude gives you all of the power. He's built
like something out of the freaking Old Testament, and he
hits for average. It's I don't I don't like the Yankees.
I load the Yankees. I don't root for any Yankees.
I didn't like little fricking Derek Jeter. So I'm not
gonna say that I like Aaron Judge, but it's really
remarkable to watch him hit because what he's doing is

(10:10):
at another level.

Speaker 1 (10:13):
It's interesting. You say you don't like the Yankees. I'm
the same way. I think we all have we kind
of loth certain teams, right and you either let like
the Yankees, the Lakers, the Cowboys, those are the teams,
right Like if you don't have a team, sometimes you'll
latch onto those teams. I you know, I've never the
Yankees for me, No, never have, never will. There's something
likable about Aaron Judge, though I don't know what it is.

(10:34):
I don't know the guy, probably haven't seen enough interview.
There's some there's a different likability factor with him than
I found with other Yankees. I never I thought Jeter, no,
I you know, I no, no, no, thanks. Rivera was
supposed to be a great guy.

Speaker 4 (10:51):
You know, I don't know.

Speaker 1 (10:53):
There's something about the Judge that just feels different, non
Yankee like I guess I would say.

Speaker 7 (10:58):
I would tend to agree with you like he is
as a Yankee. The best you can be, in my
book is neutral, like where you don't fire animosity, Yes,
and he reaches that part. And there have been other
Yankees that I've I've tended to feel.

Speaker 6 (11:13):
That way about. Yeah, I would, I would put Rivera
in there.

Speaker 4 (11:18):
Yeah.

Speaker 7 (11:18):
I always thought it wasn't Jeter that was annoying. It
was the way New Yorkers felt about Jeter. That was
most annoying, like that that was although the gift basket
thing was kind of weird, but.

Speaker 4 (11:30):
That, you know what, very weird, like, let's be honest,
very weird.

Speaker 9 (11:35):
Do you think it was true?

Speaker 8 (11:36):
Like there are certain stories.

Speaker 7 (11:38):
It would break my heart if I found out that
the story There was a New York Post story saying
that Alex Rodriguez had a portrait of himself as a
centaur that was hung in his apartment. If I find
out that that was untrue, that would break my heart
because I think it's just perfect.

Speaker 8 (11:55):
And I feel the same way about the gift basket story.

Speaker 7 (11:57):
It's very possible that that never happened, but it just
seems so perfect.

Speaker 1 (12:02):
Well, I think, well the Jeter thing too, it's like
all the most eligible batchsler for all those years, right,
you know, like that was the thing. He'd give gifts
baskets to the women that would come to his place,
and it was a small part of the rumors about
Derek Jeter, And I was kind of like, this, this
guy's an eligible batchler because he's the shortstop and the
captain for the Yankees, that those are his looks like
if you walk down the street and that dude was

(12:23):
sitting here doing a radio show or the guy was
selling you, uh, you know, safe co insurance, he'd just
be another dude. So like, no, I he probably had
to give the gift baskets out and then he you know,
by the way, I'm the captain.

Speaker 4 (12:35):
Of the Yankees. Oh okay, cool awesome.

Speaker 1 (12:37):
That automatically makes you good looking, right, that makes you
a good like like the two guys that like the
two Uh, I'm gonna I'm gonna go down a road
deprece like you can't tell me that the guy that
that married Megan Marco, which one of the princes was that,
like they're both Harry. Yeah, like they're both like bad hairlines,
gingers that you know are unattractive, but you know what

(12:59):
they're royalty makes them instantly hot in some people's mind.
That gives the rest of us money, gives us, gives
the rest of us no chance, not like I have
to worry about it.

Speaker 4 (13:08):
But nevertheless, you get my point.

Speaker 8 (13:10):
No, it's very true. This is going to be very
random aside, but something that's funny.

Speaker 7 (13:15):
I made a joke on Twitter once about how funny
I thought it was that the royal family was marrying
a member of the royal family was marrying an actress
from a USA character's welcome off brand TV show named Suits,
and I thought that that showed just how far the
Royal family had fallen, and I thought it was awesome.

(13:38):
And I immediately got a response from one of my
thirty six first cousins on my dad's side of the
O'Neill family, who responded to me, be careful. Some of
your cousins went to school with Meghan Markle at Immaculate
Heart in Los Angeles and your aunt Candy Talker, which
turned out to be true. And they told me Megan
Markle is an absolutely lovely woman and just the sweetheart

(14:01):
of a person. And then I felt bad for my guest.

Speaker 4 (14:03):
Well, Catholic girl went to a Miraculate Heart. I'll just
leave it at that.

Speaker 1 (14:08):
As someone who went to a Catholic all boys school,
I bet she's a wonderful girl, just like we were
all wonderful boys in so many ways.

Speaker 4 (14:19):
All Right, I don't know where we're going, all right,
Danny O'Neill joining us, dang apostrophe.

Speaker 1 (14:25):
Maybe the best way to set this up is let
Colin Coward tell us about what a great trade was
made on one side. Two years ago. Danny had this
link in his article is call him this week, Andrews,
go ahead and hit. This is Colin Coward after the
trade by the Seahawks of Russell Wilson to Denver.

Speaker 9 (14:45):
The Seattle Seahawks will get Drew Locke, I'm not joking
and several first round picks. Denver gets Russell Wilson. This
is one of the most lobsided trades I've ever seen
in my life. Drew Locke. Okay, well listen, Sean McVay

(15:10):
and Matt Stafford are going to be throwing more than
just one parade. Wow, big win Russ, big win Denver.

Speaker 4 (15:25):
Yes, it won't ever get old.

Speaker 6 (15:27):
It won't.

Speaker 7 (15:29):
It's also like it's worth noting his pronunciation of lobsited.

Speaker 8 (15:36):
It's one of the is not the least accurate.

Speaker 6 (15:39):
It doesn't even make the top.

Speaker 1 (15:40):
Fun So so my I mean, I love that, I
love talking about people get mad at me. Why do
you rip on Russ? I rip on Russ for one
reason he's a phony, no more than one reason he's
a phony. But more importantly, I know what he did
inside that building before he left the OUP, and I
know what he tries to do, and I know how

(16:01):
many lives he tried to ruin with trying to get people,
good people, not people that anybody outside covering the team
or around the team, Not people the fans would know,
good people, hardworking people inside that building that Russ tried
to get rid of. Obviously we all know. I mean,
it still doesn't get enough play. But he tried to
get Pete and John fired. They're big boys, they make

(16:23):
a lot of money. They can handle themselves. I'm worried
about the other people he tried to get fired or
did get fired along the way. Not a good dude, folks,
Just isn't. I mean, it's gonna be a ring of
honor guy someday. We'll talk about Hall of Fame in
a second. But he's such a phony. Tell us tell
our listeners about what's going on in New York. His
New York debuts plural these days, Danny.

Speaker 6 (16:44):
Yeah.

Speaker 7 (16:45):
What's funny about it is that he's running the same playbook,
and really you can see signs of it from the
time back when he was in Seattle, and it feels
very different now, in large part because the way Russell
is is very different. But when he left, and I
do think this ties into what you were saying about

(17:06):
the way he carried himself in the power he tried
to exert behind the scenes, was that he wanted to
be very much the front line quarterback who has a
say in everything that happens. And when he was rebuffed
when it was no, you're a player, and there's a
difference between players and management, and quarterbacks are important, but
they're not so important that you get to dictate things

(17:28):
that happened. He forced his way out to another team
that would give him the power, and it turned out
exceptionally portly that he was not as a quarterback capable
of being the kind of franchise player that he very
much thought he was and that he thought he was
being held back from in Seattle. So for me, there's

(17:52):
a certain amount of poetic justice that comes from that
he thought.

Speaker 8 (17:57):
He was something that he wasn't.

Speaker 7 (18:00):
There's part of me that kind of respects the fact
that now Russ is following the exact same playbook that
he did when he left Seattle, which is to come
up with a corny catch phrase to punctuate the end
of interviews. He's shown up court side at playoff games.
You've got I saw a tweet this week from somebody
out at Giants practice.

Speaker 8 (18:20):
It's a video of him completing a.

Speaker 7 (18:21):
Deep throat to Malik Neighbors and it's like, oh my gosh,
the Giants have a guy that will complete deep passes
to receivers on time.

Speaker 8 (18:30):
And you're like, well, wait till six weeks.

Speaker 7 (18:31):
In and you're begging him to throw the ball and
get rid of it instead of trying to pure a
wet out of facts like this is the Russ cycle that.

Speaker 8 (18:39):
You you've signed up for.

Speaker 7 (18:41):
There's part of me that should respect and does kind
of admire the fact that he's not going to cower
and hide even though he hasn't gotten the results that
he wants or hasn't been the star that he really
feels he is over these.

Speaker 8 (18:56):
Past few seasons.

Speaker 7 (18:57):
But then there's that the ego that he has that
is tied up in this. It makes it just secondhand
embarrassing for me because he's acting like something that everybody
knows he no longer Well, he's not that guy, and
he hasn't been that guy for four years.

Speaker 1 (19:17):
Articulate exactly the look he just had with the bow
tie and the cane plays and where was that?

Speaker 4 (19:21):
At?

Speaker 7 (19:23):
Was that the met gallup, which, in fairness, everybody dresses
insane to goat. Everybody dresses insane at the met Galat's
over on the Upper east Side, and it's become something
of an opportunity.

Speaker 8 (19:35):
For people to dress like lunatics.

Speaker 4 (19:38):
However, he showed.

Speaker 7 (19:40):
Up with a cane and an overcoat that he's wearing
as a cake. The caine is an interesting choice for
a quarterback in their mid thirties. The cake the caine
is definitely a choice and an interesting one for someone
in their mid thirties who isn't quite as maneuverable as
it used to be.

Speaker 8 (19:58):
But it's just one of those.

Speaker 4 (19:59):
Things of I.

Speaker 7 (20:02):
Mean, even Aaron Rodgers isn't doing that stuff. At least
Aaron Rodgers has the decency to go into his darkness
or treat Heidi hole over in the Siscius as opposed
to popping up at every every function there and pretending
that he is the transcendent quarterback when that's you're not
that guy.

Speaker 8 (20:19):
This is your fourth team in five years.

Speaker 4 (20:23):
That's the thing.

Speaker 1 (20:24):
That's what see look for red flags, right like like
in anything when we talk like look for a red flag,
and to me, the red flag would be what you
just said, you know, four teams in five years, and
you know, like in Drew Locks back in Seattle by
the way, Colin Coward, I'm sure you love that, But
why is he back in Seattle? Well because he was beloved.

(20:47):
They love the guy, you know. They they thought he's
you know, he's your perfect kind of backup quarterback, maneuver
your way around if he needs to, kind of like
Gino was before Gino decided that he wanted to get
paid like an elite quarterback, which he's not, you know,
but that was what that was Gino's mo really for
the first few years. And then you know, last year,
I think new coaching staff.

Speaker 4 (21:07):
I get it.

Speaker 1 (21:07):
He wanted to go pay for Pete and it just
didn't work out with Mike McDonald's new guy. But Gino
was that guy too. Like there's like you can bring
guys back, you know, Shaquille Griffin may end up coming
back to Seattle, right, good guy, different position. I get
that Rush four and five, like Pittsburgh doesn't want you anymore.
They have no maybe it's Aaron Rodgers, but really like

(21:27):
that's a red flag. Russ Like look around and you
mentioned his legacy. He's all about one thing. Now, he's
got one ring. He's all about one thing. He wants
that that Hall of Fame ring. And I don't think
he's gonna get it.

Speaker 8 (21:39):
Yeah, I don't think so either.

Speaker 7 (21:41):
I'd be surprised he's still with the Giants starting quarterback
at the end of the season. They drafted Jackson Dart
in the first round. It's it's certainly possible if they
start off really strong, that he'll stay. But if I
mean what we've seen recently, I just I don't see
a lot of reason to think that he's going to
be able to produce at a high enough level for

(22:04):
a full season to get a team into the playoffs.

Speaker 8 (22:07):
And then I think he is going to run.

Speaker 7 (22:09):
Into some real serious questions about what happens next. Because
he's certainly good enough, a good enough player, and because
he does play a little differently, he'd be a great
backup quarterback just from a performance standpoint. However, you don't
have a lot of guys that backup quarterback. You have
to be well liked and you and your job is

(22:31):
largely to be a good hang for the starter and
to help get him ready. And I don't think that Russ.
There's no sign that Russ sees himself he's going to
see himself as competing for the starting job. So I'm
not if it doesn't work with the Giants this year,
and I don't expect it to, I'm not sure where
his career goes from.

Speaker 1 (22:52):
Daniel Neil Joys, Danny, how does it work in New York?
Like this is the Jackson Dart thing? The second Russ,
the Russie come out and have a good year. Maybe
he does. You and I are like, and sometime the
fog goes, You know what, Russ still has it. You
know we were wrong a little bit and he still
got it. That's fine or more than likely, even if
he's just okay, Like just say he's just okay, what's

(23:14):
gonna happen? Like the New York's gonna work this way?
Aren't they gonna want Jackson Dart From probably the first
three and out that Russ goes through during this course
of the season, they get like as soon as a three
and outer pick, they're gonna be yelling for Jackson Dart.

Speaker 7 (23:27):
Yes, that is one true, and I think the template
for what to expect is would be two thousand and four,
and that's the year that the Giants ended up with
Eli Manning. And if you remember, they had Kurt Warner
as their starter, and and Warner was I don't want
to see. He wasn't in the same position as Russ.
His career is different because he started later, like became

(23:50):
a starter later in terms of his age, and then
he got banged up because he took so many hits.

Speaker 8 (23:55):
He ended up still having a.

Speaker 7 (23:56):
Lot of good football in h left led the Cardinals
to a Super Bowl, But that year with the Giants,
he was very much a placeholder until Eui got ready.
And unless you see the Giants and they're playing in
a really good division, unless you see the Giants on
track to make the playoffs, I do think by the

(24:19):
middle of the season you're going to hear a huge
push to get Jackson Dart involved, to get Jackson Dart
out there. They don't have a buy until week fourteen,
So I would say the over under is that Jackson
Dart is the starter at some point before the five.

Speaker 1 (24:36):
The Pro Football Reference does a Hall of Fame monitor,
They've got a calculation they use. It's kind of like
what Bill James says for the Baseball Hall of Fame
average Hall of Fame quarterback one on three point five eight.
Russ right now is ninety three, with probably not a
lot of chances to get that up higher. It just
you know, one All Pro team and that was All

(24:57):
Conference actually in twenty nineteen, a couple of second teams
along the way the Pro Bowls. They don't put much
stock into that, nor should they. So yeah, it's it's
gonna be, uh be a little bit of battle along
the way for him to get there. So well, we'll see.
I just I think with Russ, honestly, Danny, it's just
fell off that he just fell off who he was

(25:18):
originally when he came to Seattle, and it's unfortunate because
he could have just he could have been here for
a long long time, could have built a legacy like
no other, you know, and and instead he kind of
is where he his final thing. How are we feeling
about the Denver Nuggets coming up this weekend?

Speaker 4 (25:35):
How you feeling?

Speaker 7 (25:36):
I took my hat off to the thunder they had
a they're finished on Game five back home at Okay
See was something that.

Speaker 8 (25:44):
Was really impressive jok the joker.

Speaker 10 (25:47):
He had a shot out of his out of his keyster.

Speaker 7 (25:49):
Yeah, two minutes to go, and and Oklahoma City responded
like cats off to him. But last night, last night
and the Nuggies showing some some toughness. Game sevens are
usually really ugly. They're very physical. I think that favors Denver.
I'm I'm feeling pretty good, provided that almost not quite

(26:11):
former Husky Michael Porter, if you could make one freaking
three pointer for Garbage the entire season or the entire series.
And I know he's got a bumped shoulder, but I'm
feeling good, definitely feeling much better.

Speaker 8 (26:25):
I thought the series was.

Speaker 7 (26:26):
Over after Okay, see one game five?

Speaker 8 (26:29):
How are you feeling, Andrews.

Speaker 4 (26:31):
I'm feeling like Danny said, just take the under on
the game side.

Speaker 6 (26:33):
And That's what I'm feeling.

Speaker 4 (26:36):
Today, God, the feeling the unders.

Speaker 1 (26:40):
What you're telling me, Danny, I heard nothing but just
take the ender, That's all I heard.

Speaker 2 (26:43):
You bet on when Jackson Dartvin started a game for
the Giants as well, that.

Speaker 4 (26:48):
Could happen here before I leave? That could that could
happen over under? In game three? Uh No, I.

Speaker 1 (26:55):
You know in all seriously was with with Okac and Denver.
I think with them, You know, Denver has enough core
guys still left from winning a title. They've been there,
done that. I think we're seeing that in the Stanley
Cup playoffs right now. Like Florida, we can close out Toronto,
and you know, Florida's the defending Cup champions. They're not

(27:16):
quite as good as they were last season, but they're
still They've lost a few guys help Brenda Montur for example.
Here in Seattle, they've lost some guys. Goaltender's not playing
as well as he did last year, but that they
know how to win those games and they know how
to get over the hump. Toronto never can Oklahoma City,
those dudes haven't. I mean, they're the favorites. Like how
do you handle being the favorite? That's a different deal.

(27:38):
So I think if nothing else, I think we'll have
a hell of a close game. And god, I hate
rooting for Denver in anything, Danny and anything at all.

Speaker 2 (27:45):
It's an easy one here, but that's that's what we
do this week easy one.

Speaker 4 (27:49):
We are all Nuggets.

Speaker 1 (27:50):
We are all Nuggets, the fighting Kevin Shockey's We're all
Nuggets this weekend.

Speaker 8 (27:55):
I would say that two things. One, never underestimate the
heart of a champion and the words ruby.

Speaker 7 (28:01):
Tom Danov and said number two, never underestimate the ability
of OKC to.

Speaker 8 (28:07):
Choke away a golden opportunity. Chokeklahoma.

Speaker 1 (28:11):
Yeah, just need Damian Lillard waving goodbye one more time.

Speaker 4 (28:15):
Let it it'll be.

Speaker 2 (28:16):
It'll be Russell Westbrook this time.

Speaker 4 (28:18):
Don't worry, you know what, Russ the former Sonic. Yeah,
for a day after he got drafted before they moved
a week later. Yeah, let's let let's do it. Or
maybe the Jokic brothers can.

Speaker 1 (28:26):
Roll onto the floor and give them the double bird
and threaten everyone's life someon, you know, Yeah, put their
hands on choke the life out of Clayton Bennett or something.
Oh god, it's we'll have the statue at Climate Pledge Arena.
Will but Damian Loward and the Jokic brothers, that's all right, Danny,

(28:48):
tell us about thedang Apostrophe.

Speaker 10 (28:50):
The dang Apostrophe also known as the Player Haters Convention,
where we just hate, hate, hate Russell Wilson. Hey, hey, heye,
Oklahoma City, that's right, part of a hater.

Speaker 2 (29:18):
You can't getting there, I hope. So so's he even

Cup playoffs continue Big one tonight, Maple Leaves trying to
stay alive against the defending Stanley Cup champion Florida Panthers.
Leaves took a two nothing series lead with the first
two wins at home. Panthers have won three straight. They

(30:30):
won two at home, then went to Toronto last two
days ago, won six to one, and they can advance
through the third straight conference final appearance with a game
six win tonight in Florida. Toronto had the best road
record in the regular season in the National Hockey League.
They'll need that win tonight to stay alive, and if
they don't, you'll watch the city of Toronto meltdown like

(30:51):
never ever before. I'm gonna tell you if Mariner fans
you think were miserable at times and jinxt and screw
and just our team can't get over the hump, no
matter how good they may be, Toronto's worse. Wow, this
this franchise relative expectations relative to any type of success

(31:14):
in the postseason. Now they've been to the postseason, but
they can't get out of their way in the postseason.
It's a better hockey team than they prove every single year.
So we'll see what happens tonight. Also last night, Connor
Hallibuck actually had a shutout. Weird, actually stopped pucks last night. Strange.

Speaker 4 (31:32):
I don't know.

Speaker 1 (31:33):
Best goalie in the regular season, worst goalie in the
playoffs actually got to win last night. So Winnipeg stays alive.
We'll go to Dallas coming up tomorrow. As one game
was or one series was clinch last night. I mentioned
this yesterday. It's of note to Kraken fans. Carolina knocking
out the Washington Capitals. Andrews is devastated that the Grade
eight is no longer playing.

Speaker 2 (31:54):
Shoot.

Speaker 4 (31:58):
Yeah, I didn't look to see. I don't think he
had a point in this series.

Speaker 2 (32:02):
Right, I think he had one assist or something like that.

Speaker 1 (32:07):
It's interesting because there may be a cracking coaching candidate
that now is available and has some time on his
hands to talk Mitch Love, former Everett Silver Tip player coach,
juststant coach et cetera on the bench in Washington, and
he's kind of I would put him in the category
of kind of the up and coming assistant that a

(32:27):
lot of people you don't kind of talk about every year,
like who's that next guy.

Speaker 4 (32:32):
He might be one of those next guys.

Speaker 1 (32:34):
I thought at one point was Rocky Thompson, who was
on Tortorella's bench, but I haven't heard a lot of
his name being tossed around. Mitch could be the guy.
They may want to talk to him here in Seattle.
Maybe why the Talcket thing didn't work out.

Speaker 4 (32:44):
I don't know.

Speaker 1 (32:44):
I'm just guessing. I'd have to ask somebody that knows
Mitch love if if that's the case, and you know,
he's not gonna say anything, but we'll see. Maybe we
just have some movement coming on the cracking coaching front.
I would applaud it.

Speaker 4 (32:56):
I'd love it. I think the guy is ready, yeah,
and I think he'd checks a lot of the boxes.
But we'll see.

Speaker 2 (33:02):
It's been very, very very quiet, like a case earily quiet, which.

Speaker 1 (33:09):
Until I really get confirmation, I'm not going to buy
that they actually offer the job of talk Okay, interesting,
I don't know what that happened, but anyway, so lots
of stuff going on in the world of hockey, tonight.

Speaker 4 (33:19):
There you go.

Speaker 1 (33:20):

I do have a Cubs update.

Speaker 2 (33:47):
Uh oh, a good one.

Speaker 1 (33:50):
Sure if you like the Cubs, now you put a
live bet on the White Sox because that would really
be a dumb move. Cubs leading ten to three, we're
in the bottom of the eighth and uh and a
leadoff double you lead off the eight, So I'll go
ahead and flush that one. How's how's my Uh? How's
my Premier is at Premier.

talking about the Mariners games.

Speaker 6 (34:42):
All right, Crawford.

Speaker 4 (34:43):
Does Crawford know what you're doing here?

Speaker 9 (34:45):
Like?

Speaker 4 (34:45):
Does he understand the net that he's got to deal
with on a daily basis?

Speaker 3 (34:48):
He does, And I think that's why I thank him
for it every single time we go live, because he
has with me.

Speaker 4 (34:54):
Let's be honest. He does it every Monday. He's used
to it by now.

Speaker 2 (34:57):
It's true.

Speaker 1 (34:58):
All Right, we'll take a break. How do you Wantney

I might throw himj into the bus on this one. Heyo,
I think I'm gonna throw Hner the bus all the
MJ who is the king and the and the leader

(35:20):
of all things on the Huio Rodriguez hate train. We'll
bring that up with Hatty Watney and then we'll get

that with our friend Hodie Watney in just a couple seconds.
Florida eliminate or I'm sorry, Carolina eliminates Washington last night
in the playoffs, Winnipeg stays live, Florida can eliminate Toronto tonight,
and the biggest news of all last night, Denver forces
a Game seven coming up this weekend against Oklahoma City.

You can also come up to the sportsbook maybe wager
on some things, including how about a pretty good series
taking place in San Diego this weekend and the Mariners
taking on the Padres and that game tonight. Game one

(37:41):
of the series is on Apple TV and joining us
right now. Hi do you Watney part of the crew
who joined us last year for the Apple games on
those Fridays as well. And I'll get to you in
a second.

Speaker 4 (37:51):
Hi do you what you?

Speaker 1 (37:52):
You're the best ambassador in the world for Apple. I'm
gonna tell you that right now. Explain why in a second.
But first of all, how are you? And thanks for
jumping on with us.

Speaker 11 (38:00):
I'm doing great. I mean, I'm an America's finance city.
I love coming to Seattle too with San Diego is
just home for me. I've got a lot of family here,
so I just love being here. And we've got the
Better Cup I mean, the long storied rivalry of the
Better Cup here tonight.

Speaker 9 (38:15):
I know.

Speaker 1 (38:16):
I think my buddy Tim Booth, who's the world's biggest
pearl jam fan, wrote a story in the Santle Time
today about it. He's the one guy that really cares
about the Better Cup. It sounds like no the players
know about it, but that's okay. By the way, Heidi,
this is on Apple tonight and people want to watch
the game. I'm gonna let you tell us how do
we do so?

Speaker 9 (38:33):
Well?

Speaker 11 (38:33):
I have to do is go to Apple TV, download
the app on your phone, your TV, your tablet, whatever
it is. I think they have a special introductory offer
right now to ninety nine. Please don't quote me on that.
I know I'm on radio, but there is a special
introductory offer right now going on if you sign up.
But yeah, Apple TV. Look, if you're not on the

(38:54):
streaming bandwagon by now, get on it. And as I
said last year, come to the baseball for Ted Lasso
in the Morning show and Severn's and all those great
shows I signed up last I haven't watched Ted Lasso
and I can't believe that.

Speaker 4 (39:08):
I know what's wrong with me? What's wrong with me?
I'm this that guy?

Speaker 1 (39:12):
But you know what I did sign up last year
to watch baseball and lo and behold here I am
a year later, still an Apple TV consumer.

Speaker 4 (39:19):
So uh it worked.

Speaker 1 (39:20):
You tell those out that they owe you a bonus
because at least one guy is is still with it.
And I will say this as someone who works in TV.
How do I work for the hockey team? Our crack
and Audio Hockey Network out here. I appreciate good sports television.
I understand graphics and cameras and everything like that done
at a high level. I'm not sure if anybody does

(39:41):
at a higher level than Apple, Like it is just
a phenomenal viewing experience every Friday.

Speaker 11 (39:46):
Well, that's one of the amazing things about being a
part of Apple is their standard of excellence is the minimum, right,
like you're not going to not have perfection. The picture
quality is the best in all the sports. I get
told that every week at the ballpark by all the
players and everything who are excited and and we bring
a lot of extras to the game too, love bells

(40:06):
and whistles. We're going to talk to Julio Rodriguez in
game miked up while he's on defense in tonight's game.
I know fans love that kind of access that we bring.
We're going to talk to Fernando Tatties Junior and so
he's running out on the field. I've got Cal Rawley
for the pregame show. He's just the backbone of that
team and so fun to watch. So and Jackson Merrill,
one of the most more dynamic center fielders in the game,

(40:30):
just like Julio for San Diego, so we're going to
talk to him. Pregy in too, So we've got a
lot of great stuff that we're bringing to fans.

Speaker 1 (40:35):
Hi, do you wanty with us from Apple? She'll be
on the broadcast tonight. All right, let's I want to
get up. I'm want to get back to Julio and
Cal specifically in a second, and we'll definitely have you
kind of fill us in on the podres for the
Vetter Cup Game number one tonight. How do you just
your view? And this is always kind of fun for
us here. You know, our Seattle Mariners are surprisingly good.
They've struggled a little bit the last two series, but

(40:57):
still sit in first place in the AL West. They
do much in the offseason, thought we're going to rely
on pitching. Pitchings get banged up right now. A lot
of guys on the DA are on the injured list
and so forth. When you look and you're doing your
prep and you're watching what Seattle is all about getting
ready for this series, what comes across to you about
the Mariners?

Speaker 11 (41:14):
Well, the most interesting thing is that the offense has
taken off really under Edgar Martinez and Kevin Seiser that
for the last five years, it seems like the Mariners
have been all about pitching and had one of the
best staffs in the league, but their offense just couldn't
hold their weight. This year, it's been the reverse. They've

(41:35):
got a top ten offense in MLB and the pitching
staff's been injured, which haven't dealt with a lot of
injuries in the past. Of the starting rotation, I think
the Manners used only seven starters all of last season,
seven or eight. This year, they've already used seven just
in the first month and a half of the season.
But they're going to get healthy, and they're getting healthy soon.

(41:56):
There's a number of guys that are coming back late May,
early June that is going to boast for this rotation,
and if their offense can keep going the way they've
been going, I mean, this team looks like they're going
to be unstoppable in the aos.

Speaker 1 (42:11):
Heidi Julio Rodriguez, you mentioned that it's cool to have
him liked af during the game. By the way, I'm
not sure there's a better personality out there that that
more people need to kind of see and feel and
understand that. I would say even in our market. To
be honest with you, Heidi, we don't get that kind
of access with when the Mariners do the MLB or
root whoever's doing the games now that stuff. So to
have him be showcased, I applaud Apple. I think it's awesome.

(42:32):
I think it's what baseball needs is more young stars
like him. He's got an infectious smile, he's kind of
it's weird. How do I don't know if you this
may surprise you and and maybe not. He's sort of
a polarizing figure in our town. There's a lot of
us that just love him, and there's some wartz early
you know, slow starts, things like that. But this guy,
to me is special. He's you know, his war is

(42:54):
basically higher than any center fielder except for foreign history.
I think he's really good. I'm not sure why there's
criticism of him. But what do you see in Julio Rodriguez.

Speaker 11 (43:03):
Well, I was going to ask you would why would
he be a polarizing figure? I mean, he's dynamic, he's
a star. He's yes, slow start, I get that, but
he's a faith of your franchise and should be supported.
Why would he before?

Speaker 4 (43:19):
I'm curious it's it's odd.

Speaker 1 (43:21):
I mean, you know, our midday guy before me doesn't
like him, so to speak, and some and some others too.
And I think it's I think it's slow start. I
think it's high expectations for the contract. I think we're
always looking for escapegoat if things aren't going It's it's
the world of sports, right, heide, It's like we're looking
for someone to blame if things aren't going well. It
feels like, Okay, he's the centerpiece of the franchise, and

(43:42):
maybe he's the guy. And I just I mean the
play he made and started the first player a batter
of the game the other day I was a Christian
bright Yeah, I mean stuff like that.

Speaker 4 (43:50):
And the two RBI double. Yeah.

Speaker 1 (43:53):
His approach to the plate seems to be better. The
slow starts, I know, are frustrating, but man, I'm not sure.
He's only what twenty three years old, He's he's a
kidtastizing you.

Speaker 11 (44:02):
It's the mail on the head. It's expectations. Right when
you sign the kind of contract that he signed, the
expectations are that you're getting Aaron Judge. Well, even Aaron
Judge goes through slumps at times and he does have
the highest war among center fielders for his first three
MLB seasons. Mike is at the top, Joe DiMaggio is second,

(44:23):
Julio Rodriguez is third, and Ken Griffy Junior is right
behind him. And Ken Griffy Junior the kid the first
mail at Hall of Famer. I mean, you don't even
need to say more. You just say Junior and everyone
knows who you're talking about. And Rodriguez has a higher
war than him over the course of his first three seasons. Look,
slow starts, it's tough because then those questions come and

(44:43):
everyone's wondering why you're not off to a great start.
And it's great that the offense has been able to
start pretty hot with him starting that slow. But he's
picked it up over the last couple of weeks, and
you know, he's really enjoyed working with Edgar Martinez and
Kevin Seitzer. I think they're going to have a big
in on him. But I think one of those things,
it's it's when you sign that kind of contract, the

(45:06):
expectations are sky high and they want you to deliver.
David Ortiz once told me he hit fifty one home
runs one season. He goes. I guess mistake I haven't
made was hitting fifty one home runs from the season
because everybody expects that every year. It's just not sustainable.
Of course you said that tongue in cheek, but it's
just one of those things. I mean, he's I love
talking to him. He's he's a humble guy for as

(45:27):
much of a superstar as he is, and I'm looking
forward to talking to him and game fans love that.
Everywhere we go, people like they love that interaction, and
I think a lot of players are starting to realize
what a great asset it is for them too if
they want to do what we don't ever you know,
talk someone into doing it, or they either want you
or they don't. But it's it's a great tool for

(45:50):
them to showcase their personality and who they are and
market themselves, which you know, baseball could use more of.

Speaker 1 (45:55):
What one hundred percent, that's probably the biggest, you know,
one of the maybe the biggest, one of the bigger
issues with baseball. Let's showcase some of these younger stars
that are up and coming guys like Julio and its
baseball lends itself to that. Right like football, we see
Mic up segments of football at time, but they're a
week later. They're highly edited, you know, they're very sterilized.
You put a live mic on a guy in and

(46:16):
baseball lends itself. You could do that, put a live
mic on a guy during a game. I think it's awesome.
Makes a broadcast even more fun. Cal Rawley is this
is the weird thing again. This Every market's different. Julio
gets criticism.

Speaker 6 (46:27):
Cal does not.

Speaker 1 (46:28):
Neither probably should by the way, in my opinion, but
Cal is beloved in this town and rightfully so.

Speaker 4 (46:33):
We think he's the best catcher in the game. Where
would you put cal rally right now?

Speaker 11 (46:38):
Well, he's certainly hitting like the best catcher in the game.
I think he leads all catchers and homers for the
last three seasons. I mean, his offense speaks for itself.
And it's really really difficult talks catchers. I mean, for
the last twenty years balancing their offensive game with also
handling a staff, and usually there's there's going to be

(46:59):
a give or to take one way or the other. Right,
it's a really offensive catcher, but the defense isn't his great,
or his handling of the staff isn't great. By all accounts.
Every picture I've talked to loves Cow. They love working
with him, They love how he calls the game, how
he handles them, the relationships that he builds with those guys,
and his offense is still there. You guys have gotten

(47:20):
a gem in cal rally in Seattle.

Speaker 4 (47:22):
How do you wat you join us from Apple before
we let you go? Hi?

Speaker 1 (47:25):
Give us what are we looking for with this San
Diego team? That they have the unfortunate task of playing
in the same division as a pretty good team up
the road. I guess that doesn't help, but that doesn't
mean they're not really good. They're having a heck of
a season. Tell us about the Padres.

Speaker 11 (47:39):
Yeah, I mean San Diego's biggest obstacle is their division.
It's not just the Dodgerers, who have spent more than
anyone in baseball and who have people basically signing up
to come play for them for free. Say that a
little bit tongue in sheep, but not much. You will
also have the Diamondbacks, who are really good and the
Giants who have surprised a lot of people. I mean,

(48:00):
that's the toughest division in baseball right now, and San
Diego is just right behind the Dodgers in terms of
standings right now, and you know they're gonna have to
slay the Giant if they want to chat a shot
at winning the division, which I think they could this year,
and if not, you know, getting to the postseason and
making a run. And it's been a great rivalry between
the Padres and Dodgers for the last couple of years.

(48:21):
But Sadise, who's got so much talent, they really do,
and they're pitching is taking it up a notch this year.
And it's just a matter of like staying healthy really
for this team if they can make a deep run.
I mean, I think both of these teams talent wise,
especially with the way the offense is broken out in
Seattle this year, and once they get the pitching healthy again,

(48:42):
both of these teams can make a run in October.

Speaker 1 (48:45):
Yeah, Steven Kolk's going to get the start tonight for
them to an old record. Logan Evans, one of the
replacement guys, young guy that's got good stuff, gets to
start for Seattle, and then that's kind of starts off
the weekend. You mentioned the Dodgers a couple of big
picture of things before I let you go bad for baseball.
What the Dodgers are doing.

Speaker 11 (49:03):
I think it's good for baseball. Any discussion it creates
is good for baseball. And I think it's also good
for baseball that they're going through some bumps and bruises
and giving other people a chance to stay in the race,
and they're not just running away with it, and that
they're in a division where those teams aren't rolling over
and saying, oh, the Dodgers are so good, We're not
going to be able to compete. We're not going to
spend money they are. The Giants are going for it,

(49:24):
the Padres are going for it, the Diamondbacks are going
for it. The Rockies should be relegated. But that's another discussion. Yes,
But Stephen Kollach, it's interesting you mentioned him. He used
to be a Mariner. Padres picked him up in the
Rule five draft, and I'm sure he's going to have
a little bit of extra, you know, amped up energy,
and he's also you know, hasn't been scored on this year,
so having Michael King as a mentor in the same

(49:47):
rotation with him has been a big asset for him.
So it'll be interesting to see how he goes out
there tonight against his former team Least.

Speaker 1 (49:54):
I'm going to put you on the spot for one
final One biggest news in baseball this week was Pete Rose.

Speaker 4 (49:59):
What do you think of this decision?

Speaker 11 (50:03):
You know, it's interesting because in death maybe his family
can get some peace with news. But and and he
can be posthumously inducts it into the Hall of Fame. Look,
he's the hits leader, his numbers are I hear this
all the time, the argument of whether people who've cheated
the game should be enter and out of the Hall

(50:25):
of Fame. And you know they're they're recognized in the
Hall of Fame because it is also a museum. I mean,
he's a hit king. It's hard to keep him out,
especially with how pervasive gambling is becoming the sport. But
he gambled on his own sport and his own team,
so you have to look at that. I don't disagree
with the decision made, but you know those are problems

(50:49):
for people way above my pay grade.

Speaker 1 (50:50):
Well, yeah, it's one of those. It's one of those
things we've talked about forever. And you know that day's cheating.
You know what, how shoeless Joe did it? How Pete
Rose did it. How people can do it today in
the palm of their hands. Things have evolved. I've kind
of come around and gone both ways on it, and
we'll leave it at that.

Speaker 4 (51:06):
I did notice this. This is kind of cool.

Speaker 1 (51:08):
Ted Barrett and Dale Scott are two longtime umpires and
they're on the broadcast. They're available in the broadcast. I
don't remember baseball doing this before. Football is great at
it right. Football does a great job. Got guys in
the booth, Mike Perrero, whoever it might be, Jeene Steratur,
and they can walk it down. They do it with
college basketball with March Madness. The NHL Stanley Coup playoffs
have a former referee, Dave Jackson works for ESPN.

Speaker 4 (51:30):
I mean, they have all that. This seems to be
new to me. Maybe you guys did it last year,
but I love that.

Speaker 1 (51:34):
I love having umpires in the booth or at least
available to come jump on the broadcast.

Speaker 11 (51:40):
We've had it all four years of this broadcast. This
is the fourth season of Apple TV. They are always available.
We don't go to them for no reason. We only
go to them when they're relevant, which is why you
probably haven't seen it. But they're always on standby, ready
to jump in the broadcast should we have either a
question about a rule or they're doing a replay review
or anything that might be brought in where they can

(52:02):
speak to you. We have an umpire get hurt take
a ball off the mask really bad the other day,
and they jumped on and talked about what that feels like,
what that process is like, what they're you know, why
they're talking to him, and can you stay in the
game or not? And if he has to come out
of the game, you know how they move around. So yeah,
it's great to have those experts right there at your
fingertips and they are always available to us. Every Friday night.

Speaker 4 (52:22):
I love it.

Speaker 1 (52:23):
You're with Wayne? Is it Randazzo? Rondezo? How do you
pronounce Wayne's name?

Speaker 11 (52:27):
Wayne Randazzo? And then the train don so willis.

Speaker 4 (52:31):
I love it tonight.

Speaker 1 (52:32):
If you ever run into I know Rich Waltz is
on the earlier broadcast. You ever runner Rich, say Hi,
he's a guy from out I think he still lives
out here with us. Great dude, good broadcast cruise. Yeah, Rich,
he's he's really good. He's and he's doing the Rangers game.
I think beforehand. So great job by Apple, great job
by you to get me to subscribe to Apple. I will,
I will, Ted LASSA is on the calendar this summer,

(52:54):
all right, I promise. I got to get to that,
and then we will check in with you. I'm assuming
you got another Marria game coming up at some point.

Speaker 11 (53:00):
Right, Oh yeah, we're definitely gonna have them on the schedule. Again,
I'm not sure off the top of my head when,
but yes, and I'll check in and i' laugh all
about Ted laugh though, because you're gonna thank me once
you get down to watch it. The problem is you're
not gonna get any sleep because you're gonna want to
binge watch it all night long.

Speaker 1 (53:16):
All right, I will, I will, I will do all
those things above. I will also tell our Midday guy
that Heidi says you're a fool for ripping on Julio Rodriguez.
So MJ in the Midday if you're listening right now,
Heidi Watney, like others questioning your decisions in life along
the way, have a great broadcast tonight, Heidi, thank you
so much.

Speaker 11 (53:33):
All right, thanks take care, guys.

Speaker 7 (53:35):
There you go.

Speaker 1 (53:35):

(54:17):
replace your divitt that you just absolutely annihilated on the
golf course. But we're watching that. In fact, let's do this,
Let's get ourselves. An update from Quail Hollow the PGA

with us today. So we're gonna play a little closest
to the pin maybe at some point. I'll probably do
it next week because we won't.

Speaker 4 (55:08):
I won't know for a while.

Speaker 1 (55:11):
What happened here at Soqualme Casino. First of all, from
Dan and Sale in the nine to seven to one. Chelsea, Chelsea, Chelsea,
Go Blues, Go Sounders and all Caps.

Speaker 4 (55:22):
Yeah you could pound sand.

Speaker 2 (55:24):
You can't, I mean, go Sounders, Yes, but no you Chelsea.

Speaker 4 (55:27):
It is Timber Hate weekend, isn't it.

Speaker 11 (55:29):
It is?

Speaker 1 (55:30):
Wait, Portland suck, Yes they do. Doesn't matter what they do,
Portland suck. Thanks Schmetz. Portland Hate Weekend tomorrow.

Speaker 2 (55:41):
Yes it is.

Speaker 4 (55:42):
Go get them.

Speaker 2 (55:43):
But let's go, Come on, Sounder, it's in Providence Park.
Let's go.

Speaker 1 (55:46):
All right, So here's what happened at the casino. You
guys been follow along all show, got here today, sat
sitting in the sports book as still Qualm Casino.

Speaker 4 (55:57):
Love coming up here. I'm gonna starty coming.

Speaker 1 (55:59):
What's the new sports are in restaurants open by the way, Andrews,
Just like, I'm gonna let you know, you guys may
not see me on Fridays, Okay, to be up here,
all right?

Speaker 8 (56:07):
You uh?

Speaker 1 (56:08):
But I get here and I see, well, you know,
anders are talking off the air. I mean a little
live bet, sure, I mean, who wouldn't bet on the
White Sox? So big odds there that didn't go well? Sorry,
there's a live soccer game in the is it the
EPL y epl on? Andrews gives me a little zero zero.
I went with Man City Man United. Yes, it wouldn't

(56:32):
matter because Man didn't do anything.

Speaker 2 (56:35):
Yeah, no, they did not.

Speaker 3 (56:36):
Hey, you said to yourself, I wouldn't have bet Chelsea
because there was no odds there, because a better team.

Speaker 1 (56:41):
Yeah yeah, yeah. So I went with a couple of
long shots live bets. Yeah, nothing big nothing, not a
lot of money, like just little pennies on the dollar.
But we did didn't turn out well. Long commercial breaks
on the old iHeart media world.

Speaker 2 (56:53):
Well, especially when you have a PGA Championship update.

Speaker 1 (56:56):
Swung over just about twenty feet away found myself a
little slot machine did very well. Text and anders how
long do I have? How long till the break's over?
Got some free spins coming here?

Speaker 4 (57:06):
Fellas?

Speaker 1 (57:07):
Things are going well, things are looking up, friending up.
Now my wife shows up. My wife shows up. I
hand her the ticket and I say, can you go
cash us out? I'm in a commercial. I got a
half hour left. Can you go cash us out? And
we'll pack up and head out.

Speaker 2 (57:23):
Mistake number one.

Speaker 4 (57:26):
The betting window is I'm staring out from the sports book.
Andrews is to my right.

Speaker 1 (57:31):
It's about it's halfway down the casino floor to the
right hand her the ticket. She heads due left. Yeah, yes,
haven't seen her since. All I know is she went
the opposite way of where you go cash a ticket.

Speaker 2 (57:49):
Interesting, Is there like a secret place to the left
maybe that?

Speaker 6 (57:52):
No, no, no, no no no no no no no no.

Speaker 2 (57:56):
Okay, did she have like an ominous look in her
eye when you hand it to the ticket?

Speaker 1 (57:59):
Or is she is she's a sweet lady. Yeah, and
and but there's something about the ding.

Speaker 4 (58:06):
Ding ding ding ding ding.

Speaker 2 (58:07):
Yeah, yeah, it gets all us.

Speaker 1 (58:09):
And she's a different animal. I even saw it last
week we went to Emimerald downs on Mother's Day. Really,
she just SLINKs out of there. Like one second she's
there like sleute, like stealth, next second she's gone. She
actually did well at the track too. I don't know
how I can get no idea, but she she took
some money from with you and those guys it.

Speaker 2 (58:30):
Yeah.

Speaker 4 (58:30):
Yeah, but just like my daughter sitting and she goes
like does this mom?

Speaker 1 (58:33):
Is this what mom does in Vegas? And go yeah,
Like one second she's there, the next second she's gone. Yeah,
and she wants no part of like just leave me alone.
I'm doing my thing. Yeah, So I have no idea.
I think what I'll do next week is I'll do
a little closest to the pin. I'll I'll do some
giveaways and i'll tee. I'm off Monday Tuesday, so I'll
do it Wednesday. But what I'll say is I gave

(58:54):
her a ticket that had an even one and fifty dollars.
I just played penny slots. Nice little return on my
investment on my penny slots, one hundred and fifty bucks.
What do you think she finally cashes out for? We'll
do it close as the.

Speaker 4 (59:10):
Pin next night.

Speaker 1 (59:10):
Okay, what's what's your off the guess it won't have
three numbers. Okay, my best guess won't even come close
to three numbers, man, I mean it. I won't even
I'm not gonna even because I I have an idea
what she'll put a limit on, but she has no

(59:31):
idea how much I put in. Here's the thing, like
I could have put in a hundred bucks, yeah, and
just got and just had fifty that I won, right,
So I would hope she would think maybe he put
a hundred bucks in.

Speaker 4 (59:42):
I didn't, But yeah, I don't know. I won't. I
won't even do that, but we'll do it close at
the pin. I'll do some giveaways.

Speaker 3 (59:49):
I could foresee a situation where she comes back with
fifty and she's like, here, I cashed it in.

Speaker 4 (59:54):
Oh my god.

Speaker 2 (59:55):
She does that and then like I thought it was fifty,
not one fifty.

Speaker 4 (59:59):
Oh my god, Oh my god.

Speaker 3 (01:00:04):
So I've been hit by those types of things previously before.

Speaker 2 (01:00:08):
Do you want to get some text here?

Speaker 4 (01:00:10):
Yeah? Yeah, okay, I need to be distracted.

Speaker 2 (01:00:14):
He's just ominously waiting.

Speaker 4 (01:00:16):
Double Gin and Tonic on the way. Thank you?

Speaker 2 (01:00:18):
All right, what do we got a couple of texts?

Speaker 11 (01:00:21):
Here?

Speaker 3 (01:00:21):
Julio is not a superstar. He's overrated, highly overrated. Excuse me?

Speaker 4 (01:00:27):
Okay, who I saw? Julio isn't as good as Mike Cameron?
Did I really read that right? I just read that? Two?
Five three?

Speaker 9 (01:00:33):
Uh?

Speaker 2 (01:00:34):
Okay, so two parts of this year.

Speaker 3 (01:00:36):
First of all, I think Mike Camera gets too much
hate personally, like not hate, just like.

Speaker 4 (01:00:41):
People don't hate.

Speaker 1 (01:00:42):
I think he gets too much credit. Do you think
so he's okay, he's a good player. He was a
very good player, very good player. Yes, Julio, I'm gonna
use the term because we all hate. You know, Hulio
has a chance to be a superstar.

Speaker 2 (01:00:56):
Yeah?

Speaker 4 (01:00:56):
What a Bucky call him this morning a star?

Speaker 2 (01:00:58):
He said he was a star.

Speaker 3 (01:00:59):
I For those who haven't checked it out, after you
listen to Softing Dick this afternoon, go back and listen
to all of our podcasts first of all, but specifically
The Morning Show in their nine o'clock segment because Bucky Jacobson,
Oh no, he's already distracted again.

Speaker 12 (01:01:15):
Yeah.

Speaker 4 (01:01:15):
Sorry, but.

Speaker 3 (01:01:18):
Bucky did a great breakdown of kind of where Julio
is at in his career and what separates him from
being a superstar because he called him a star. He said,
you know, if you equate, he has a two to
seventy three career batting average. If you that equates to
about a three hundred batting average back in nineteen ninety five.
So if you want to compare him to older players,
he's about a three hundred hitter at nineteen ninety five. Now,

(01:01:40):
I'm not a batting average guy, but Bucky yeah RBI.
Yeah no, no, RBI. But Bucky is so that that's
his kind of derogative there. Okay, but he says he's
a star right now because of you know, the hot
streaks he can get on and what he does defensively.
What will turn him into a superstar is two things,
the clutch gene and the consist see and I totally

(01:02:01):
agree with that as long as you recognize that he
is a star. I don't think he's overpaid either. People
hype up the contract. He gets paid twenty million dollars base.
If he gets more than that, it's because he earned it,
because he gets top five MVP votes, he wins an
MVP all that stuff. So, uh, I think he's performing
to the level of his contract at this point.

Speaker 4 (01:02:22):
I'm a fan. I think yeah, everything you said. Where
is my wife? Two six? Who cut a bigger beaver pelt?

Speaker 1 (01:02:29):
The one you just saw in the PGA Championship with
that TV clip you played a while back of you
and Keifer playing around and you had a shot of
Keifer slicing one that would have broken most people's risks.

Speaker 4 (01:02:39):
I don't remember what did I play?

Speaker 2 (01:02:40):
I remember that one is key for a golfer.

Speaker 1 (01:02:43):
Yeah, okay, I'm He's allegedly supposed to graduate Sunday, but
judging for him and a buddy got some deal at
a golf course right by the campus. One I guess
one of his roommates got to play football with him,
his buddy's assistant pro and they basically played I don't know,
it felt like every day for a while. So yeah,
he's Yeah, the the beaver pelt that I saw. Shane

(01:03:06):
Lowry just lost his mind, just lost his It was
so bad. All right, the kids are back and then
they're gone again. Okay, so an old sign of missus furness.

Speaker 3 (01:03:16):
Please tell Andrews to bet on the padres with his
record for today. You know what, I might just do
that little.

Speaker 4 (01:03:21):
Call, right, you know it's a good call. Yeah, okay,
I will.

Speaker 1 (01:03:26):
We're gonna we'll do it closest to the pin next week.
I won't tell anybody, and we'll give it. We'll do
a giveaway on Wednesday when I get back. Andrews remind
me that maybe we'll do that because I will forget
one hundred and fifty bucks. I gave my wife a
little ticket for how much will she eventually cash it out?

Speaker 4 (01:03:42):
We'll do that next week. I man, what an absolutely
moronic move by me.

Speaker 3 (01:03:49):
Yeah, that that was my whole thing. Why did you
even give it to her? You could should have cashed
out yourself.

Speaker 4 (01:03:54):
Yeah, I'm really dumb. Thanks tips, Okay, living just like taking.

Speaker 2 (01:03:59):
My it's just like taking my betting advice.

Speaker 4 (01:04:01):
It's almost as dumb as that it really is.

Speaker 1 (01:04:03):
It's been a really bad day of bad decisions here
in Snowpualma Casino, filled with bad decisions, nothing but bad
decisions for me in today.

Speaker 4 (01:04:10):
Uh is Faine in today? Is that right?

Speaker 2 (01:04:12):
I think so?

Speaker 4 (01:04:12):
Faine? All right, we'll check in with him next.

Speaker 1 (01:04:22):
Already, we're back at the Smokahoma Casino in the Sportsbook
hotel opening up here in about a month and a
half or so time. They're taking reservation snow Casino because
snow casino dot com and away we go. Dave Softy
Mallra joined us right now, Softy, I got a.

Speaker 6 (01:04:36):
Question for you, A question for you. I wasn't told
of any questions here, pal.

Speaker 4 (01:04:40):
Now, this is an easy one for you.

Speaker 6 (01:04:42):
I realize there'll be a test here. It's Friday, man,
come on, give me a break.

Speaker 4 (01:04:45):
So here's my dilemma.

Speaker 6 (01:04:47):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (01:04:47):
First of all, I will freely admit, as Andrews has
already pointed out, that I was a moron for doing
what I did.

Speaker 4 (01:04:53):
Okay, okay, and I know you'll agree even you know
you just know what I do.

Speaker 6 (01:04:57):
Oh, we all know you're a moron to begin with.

Speaker 4 (01:04:59):
So there, So that's that's well established.

Speaker 1 (01:05:01):
So I sit here at the still call on me casino,
and sometimes we have commercial breaks that are long enough
where you can go do something, sure and throwing in
a PGA Championship update a little.

Speaker 4 (01:05:12):
Bit longer, right.

Speaker 1 (01:05:13):
Yeah, So I've wandered about twenty feet from where I'm
sitting here, found myself a little slot machine.

Speaker 4 (01:05:18):
Why not, you know what?

Speaker 1 (01:05:19):
Because I'd already lost two live in game bets today,
one of which was an Anderson hurst suggestion.

Speaker 4 (01:05:26):
Yes, a soccer.

Speaker 1 (01:05:28):
Jeez, So I go chasing do all right? Tab out
print it up just in time to go back on
the air. My wife is coming up here to pick
me up. We're heading out for something afterwards. I hand
her the ticket. I say, hey, can you go cash
this out? And the window is to my right. She
does a B line to the left, and that was

(01:05:49):
and what about forty minutes ago.

Speaker 4 (01:05:51):
And she's gone. I haven't seen her. Wow, what do
you so? The ticket was wasn't much? It's one hundred
and fifty bucks, but you know, is.

Speaker 6 (01:05:58):
It possible that? Okay, so she's taking you home? Is
that correct?

Speaker 4 (01:06:02):
Yes?

Speaker 6 (01:06:02):
Okay, so she she she didn't leave without you at
least no purpose.

Speaker 1 (01:06:06):
But my question to you is I gave her it
was an even one fifty fifty.

Speaker 6 (01:06:11):
That money's gone.

Speaker 4 (01:06:12):
Okay, what will she eventually cash out?

Speaker 6 (01:06:16):
Gone? She'll cash out for nothing.

Speaker 13 (01:06:18):
She'll she'll take the one fifty uh, she'll lose that,
and then she'll go back to the ATM take out
another one sixty uh twenty dollars increments and she'll probably
lose that. So when it's all said and done, you'll
be you'll be out your one fifty plus another one
hundred and sixty bucks, so three to ten I'll be done,
three hundred and ten dollars swing. Yes, yeah, she will

(01:06:39):
come back with nothing. She's gone for that long. She's
chasing the old.

Speaker 4 (01:06:43):
Oh she's chasing right now.

Speaker 7 (01:06:45):
Yeah.

Speaker 4 (01:06:45):
Where she'll met somebody, Well, then she'd be chasing that too.

Speaker 6 (01:06:49):
Rich guy, good looking dude. Oh, they're all over here
right now. Is there is there a Is there a
craps table there at the at this liqualmie.

Speaker 4 (01:06:57):
Yeah, but she's she won't go near that.

Speaker 6 (01:06:59):
She may have by the craps table, somebody may have
caught her eye.

Speaker 13 (01:07:02):
You know whatever I mean, you got competition up there,
palcam I you're you're the mayor of Maple Valley, but
you're not in Maple Valley. I'm not in Maple r Well,
not the sheriff is the kwami. You're the mayor of
Maple Valley, the old dork of des Moines.

Speaker 4 (01:07:14):
The only part that you're inacturate on is this.

Speaker 1 (01:07:17):
She will she'll have no problem just absolutely throwing that
money out away that I made, right, But she will
never ever go to an ATM machine.

Speaker 4 (01:07:27):
Where there's like a four dollar fee.

Speaker 1 (01:07:28):
Gotcha, gotcha, which makes to me no sense, But it's
actually good and safe, right, Like if she loses, she
loses and she's done, so we won't lose more than that.

Speaker 13 (01:07:38):
But well, but see, here's the here's the great thing
about the ATMs that the more they charge, the more
I can take out because I can justify it to
my wife. Well, they're charging me ten bucks, Honey, I'm
not gonna go back twice. It's gonna take everything out,
now you know. I mean, if it was two bucks,
whatever kind of ride and see what happens. But they're
charging me ten dollars. I took out eight hundred bucks.

(01:07:59):
Just get it all done, now, Andrews, do we have
a final in the soccer match?

Speaker 4 (01:08:03):
You gave me.

Speaker 13 (01:08:05):
Wady to go dummy Jesus, and you know taking bets
from you Powe.

Speaker 1 (01:08:10):
Give me a drop from You're a drop from Schmitzer.
Now so does man you or whoever the hell I
bet on? O?

Speaker 13 (01:08:20):
God, hey, I had I I had the greatest betting
night of all time yesterday. I took the thunder plus
the tip minus the two and a half in the
first half, which they covered, and then I took Denver
plus the five and a half overall, which they covered.

Speaker 6 (01:08:33):
So Oklahoma City gave me a first half win and
a loss. It was beautiful.

Speaker 13 (01:08:38):
That was three for three. That is like a perfect night.
It was tremendous, perfect, tremendous. And now now I'm going
to approach game seven the way I approached the Apple Cup.

Speaker 7 (01:08:46):
Every year.

Speaker 13 (01:08:47):
Bet in the thunder they lose. I won't give a damn,
don't care. I'll gladly pay for a thunder loss.

Speaker 6 (01:08:54):
Oh, I like it.

Speaker 13 (01:08:55):
Somebody comes to me and says, hey, give me a
couple hundred bucks and guarantee the thunder lose.

Speaker 6 (01:08:59):
Done. Where do I sign? Fine? No problem, no problem, whatsoever?

Speaker 7 (01:09:03):
Man?

Speaker 4 (01:09:04):
Well, we got to wrap up, and I still don't
see her. So either I'm walking home.

Speaker 6 (01:09:08):
He's gone, he's gone.

Speaker 13 (01:09:11):
I mean it's possible that she also took that one
fifty turned it into you know, a couple of million bucks,
and she said, what am I doing?

Speaker 6 (01:09:17):
What am I doing with a schmuck? Now that's a
month millionaire. You know what I can do better? I'm
out of here.

Speaker 4 (01:09:22):
Man, that's fine, I'll take half of it. I'll take that.
If she did, if she puts me on waivers after
within a couple of million dollars.

Speaker 6 (01:09:29):
Then they would never do that to the Bay or
never ever, ever, ever, Come on, you're a prize.

Speaker 1 (01:09:35):
If you saw you saw her at your fiftieth birthday
party at the casino and her and your buddy Austin's you, yeah,
they was like no, just I.

Speaker 6 (01:09:46):
Don't get the man. I don't get what you guys
did to lend those two say with Fain and his wife, It's.

Speaker 4 (01:09:50):
Like, jeez, man, I don't say that about Geana every day.

Speaker 6 (01:09:53):
Well, I know what I did. I'm just kind of
a big deal, so I know what she's doing.

Speaker 4 (01:09:58):
She's never she's never given me a good answer when
I've asked, right, God get it.

Speaker 2 (01:10:02):
Oh, I gave my wife a green card. That's how
I got her.

Speaker 1 (01:10:05):
That is true, Andrews. That is the one that does
make sense. That is she married a green card. His
name was Anderson Ry.

Speaker 13 (01:10:13):
When cut up today, you know John Gonzano, He's coming
on today, nice talking about the Blazers sale, what it
means for the Seahawks ownership.

Speaker 6 (01:10:19):
PJ. Carlismo will be with us.

Speaker 13 (01:10:22):
Our bracket is at four o'clock today and it is
our favorite non Seattle sports moment slash team of all time.
Think of the Miami Heat, by the way, beating the
Thunder of the NBA Finals back in twenty eleven.

Speaker 4 (01:10:35):
So we'll do that at four.

Speaker 1 (01:10:36):
Two.

Speaker 6 (01:10:36):
Villain's here at five as well.

Speaker 4 (01:10:38):
Okay, say that again, Say what was it? Let's the bracket.
Say that again.

Speaker 13 (01:10:42):
Your favorite non Seattle sports moment of all time. Wow,
Auburn beats Oregan for the twenty eleven title, Damian Lillard
knocks out the Thunder in twenty nineteen, Carolina beating Gonzaga
in the final, and seventeen things like that.

Speaker 4 (01:10:56):
Right, I think waving goodbye that'd be great. Need a
statue of that, it's on the list.

Speaker 1 (01:11:02):
And then we need a statue of the Jokic brothers
grabbing Clayton Bennett by the throat on Sunday and put
that up there as well.

Speaker 6 (01:11:07):
God, I hope.

Speaker 13 (01:11:08):
So can you imagine if he if, if if Jokic
picks up clay Bennett like Drago picked up his trainer
in Rocky four? Yes, right, says something that nobody can understand.
Me chokes Clay Bennett out. I played for me, for me,
this is for Seattle, this is I see him I for.

Speaker 6 (01:11:32):
The mild mannered and marginally objectionable Inverness. This is Paddled day,
saying so long everyone
