The Mariners start a three-game series with the Blue Jays tonight - will we see less Toronto fans tonight? There are many reasons why it won't be like what we've seen in the past. The Mariners feel confident right now, and that's why even when they're down, they're not out. Danny O'Neil, The Dang Apostrophe! tells Ian how much he loves rooting against Oklahoma City and why he continues to relish it.  What the A's ownership has done to their team is reprehensible.  The Daily Power Play! Rob Rang, FOX Sports and BC Lions gives Ian a final breakdown of the Seahawks draft, what they got and the bright spots. He thinks, given need and talent, the Seahawks had the best draft of any team in the league. We check the text line and talk to Softy.

doesn't matter. It's on our radio station. So someone actually
has won this. Ye so it behooves you to go
to ninety three to three KJR dot com and type
in the word happy. I don't win one thousand dollars.
I want to get to something right away. We'll get
Dani O'Neil's gonna join us a twelve twenty or one
twenty today, and then at two o'clock we'll check in
with our guy Rob Ran kind of a final wrap up.
We didn't get Rob last week. We're going to talk

(01:59):
to him today and check in with him coming up
to get a final kind of bow on the Seahawks
off season of the date, including the draft class, after
rookie Mini caamp, what he's hearing around the league, and
I'll ask him, are they a better football team today
than they were when they ended this season? I think
they are. I think you can make the argument that
they are, at least on paper a lot of I mean,

(02:19):
they weren't starting from scratch. They added some places they
needed to. The big obvious one would be DK leaving
and Gino leaving and what you've brought in in place
of those guys. But I think they are better overall.
But we'll find out. We'll see what Rob says coming
up at two o'clock today. I want to start here.
Miners start home, they come home tonight. I didn't read

(02:40):
the one line Jess Habit, I'll read it anyway here,
just because I wanted to save it for the topic
here of the day. The just Rights begin a three
game series with the Blue Jays night. So get out there,
Minnor's fans, and don't let Toronto take over your stadium.
Well Toronto won't, Canadians and Blue Jays fans would because
I don't think. But the point is the Canadians, yes.

(03:03):
So I checked around both with two of my media
peers in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, a which is where
the majority of the fans for the Blue Jay series
come down from normally on a given year, and also
with someone inside the Marriors organization. From inside the Marriorgs organization,

(03:23):
not as many blue Jay fans coming down, expected coming
down this weekend, mostly because of all that's going on
in the world. Looking forward to having some more mirror
fans down in the ballpark, Okay, which I kind of assumed,
but I wanted to make sure that that was the case,
because that's what we're hearing.

Speaker 3 (03:38):
We need the data.

Speaker 2 (03:41):
This is from one of my media guys, I said,
fewer Canadians this weekend I'm hearing. If so, what are
you hearing from your listeners and viewers? Definitely will be
a few, a lot more. Looking at the seat charts
and what we hear, far fewer fans under normal circumstances.
I think it's a combo of they don't want to
support a country led by guy that seemingly attacked us.
Also horror stories around the border and going back and forth,

(04:03):
and then all the uncertain tariff situation in general, not
fully understanding what's allowed and what's not, Like if you
buy a Jersey, do you have to pay something on that?

Speaker 6 (04:12):
Like?

Speaker 2 (04:13):
What is we? They don't know right because I'll leave
it at that second person. Trump's fifty first state talk
has a lot of people up here upset and it's
hurting tourism. We hear throughout the US from Canadian visitors,
specifically Vegas, Arizona, and Florida. Also coming into this the

(04:34):
trades and tariff's trade war. People are confused and don't
know what is what. Sagging Canadian dollar doesn't help the
other thing. May series kids are in school still, so
they're not coming down on a Friday and the Jays
just aren't very good. Fans are fed up with management.
So it's a combination of all those things.

Speaker 3 (04:53):
So those are the reason there's hockey still going on.

Speaker 2 (04:55):
But they don't care. That's not Vancouver. I mean, they
can watch it on TV. They're not going to a game.
I'm talking British Columbia specific.

Speaker 3 (05:03):
Okay, got it.

Speaker 2 (05:04):
Thousands and thousands would come down here, and you know,
so I wanted to get it from people up there.
I thought all of those things were true. Now you're saying, oh, Fornes,
why do you care? Aren't you glad that our ballpark
will be filled with Mariner fans. I don't think any
more Mariner fans would go than if it wasn't the
Blue Jays in town. That doesn't mean anything. Are they
going to have twenty thirty thousand, forty thousand of this weekend?

(05:27):
I don't know, but that doesn't affect our fans. How
many Canadians come down unless there's no tickets available, but
there's plenty of tickets available. I think it's disappointing for
a couple of reasons, and I know I'm kind of
in the minority with this. I think when the ballpark
is alive, and in this case, you're talking one hundred

(05:48):
and sixty two games, eighty one home games. The Blue
Jays games have become such a polarizing issue over the
last few years with fans in our city and how
upset people get and all that. But what what is
true and is non debatable is the fact that when
they do come down, the ballpark is more alive than

(06:09):
it is for any regular season series of the year period,
end of story. Whether it's whether you think that's good
or not, I don't know. I think loud, crazy, fun
circus like atmosphere fans going back and forth for a
baseball game in May, I think that would be a
good thing. So I'm a little disappointed. I'm a little disappointed.

(06:30):
I think it'd be I wish it was gonna be better.
I wish that we had, you know, didn't have all
the things going on in our world. I wish there
was an uncertainty and I would and listen, we're a
small piece of it. Like like the one guy told me,
He's like, yeah, man, we're all our listeners. They're not
going to Vegas right now, they're not going to Florida.
They're not going to Arizona places it normally to go
for vacations south of the border, which is unfortunate for us.

(06:53):
I feel bad for the local companies that, you know,
because again, the amount of Mariner fans going isn't going
to change. But if you take say ten thousand or
so people out of the ballpark each of the next
three days, let's just say, for a conservative estimate, you
say there's only thirty, you'd have thirty thousand visitors coming
down here, or at least thirty thousand people here, ten,

(07:15):
ten and ten maybe not unique over three days. You know,
our friends at the Silver Cloud Hotel, our friends down
on the waterfront. I ran a new guy yesterday that
were one of our buddies that runs Ivers and they're
doing the thirty percent off thing at Ivers. So it
is the mecca cafe up on Queen Anna. There's a
number of businesses doing that, trying to attract him as
saying hey man, we appreciate your business, We like you
when you come down, and I don't like it. For

(07:37):
this reason, we as sports media and sports fans pounder
our chests and yell and scream all the time about
one thing, and that is this that sports and venues
for sports and sporting events make a difference in the
local economy. There are some that will push back, and

(07:57):
you can find a study that fits anybody's nearve in
anybody's point, it's undeniable, though, when you have people coming
in from out of town for a sporting event, that
is an economic impact on your local community. And that's
a bummer. Take away the fact that you don't have
the same atmosphere you will. It's just ho hum, another

(08:17):
series whatever. Our baseball team's playing great, which is cool,
which is awesome, and we're happy for them, but it
does take it away a little bit, and I think
that's a little bit disappointing for me. You can comment
four nine four or five to one on the still
unrestricted free agent text line four nine four or five
to one. I will miss the Blue Jay fans this weekend.

(08:40):
I will. I don't know about you guys, but I will.
I think it's a fun atmosphere. Baseball is such a
long season. He needs something to break it up now.
Maybe on Monday and Tuesday and Wednesday next week? Is
it three game series? What the Yankees? It is? Isn't
it is?

Speaker 4 (08:53):
Yep?

Speaker 3 (08:54):
Monday Tuesday Wednesday, two night games and then a day game.

Speaker 2 (08:58):
The maybe we'll get our share our fill of opposing
fans here, even though they're probably not traveling from New York.
I'm sure the Yankee fans will be well well represented
on Monday Tuesday wins.

Speaker 3 (09:12):
Well, we live in a transient city.

Speaker 5 (09:13):
There's a lot of people from a lot of different
places here, so there are and the Yankees tend to
be not just New York people, some people who don't
live in a state and move.

Speaker 2 (09:22):
The Yankees are the Lakers. The Yankees are the you know,
they're the Lakers. There. Who's the other team? Who's in
a Dallas Cowboys? You know how many Cowboys fans? Do
you know?

Speaker 5 (09:32):
That Dallas a lot of braves because that was the yeah.

Speaker 2 (09:36):
Yeah for the Yeah. So anyway, kind of a bummer.
I just I'd love to get your thoughts on that
Marriers are playing great though, and I mean, I don't
I'm not going to comment on the newspaper story day
in Topoto's comments outside of the fact when he says
it kind of feels like a movie, Yeah, it does.
Let's just hope the movie continues and it's a three
hour marathon and not all of a sudden, the bubble

(09:56):
gets because they could have easily lost all three of
those games of the A's like that that very very
easily could have happened. They could have lost all three
of those games. So but they didn't. And I think
that might be the biggest difference between this year's team
last years. Sea remember going through at one point, I'll
get it for the mullywop guys on Monday. I remember
for a good chunk of last season that this is
a team that if they trailed after the sixth or

(10:18):
seventh inning, it was over. And that's not the case
this year. This group is a little bit different than
the mindsetting. There is a little bit different in a
game in which everything is mental. Like every guy can
swing a bat, you know, hand eye coordination, batspeed, all,
but just to how do you approaching that bat? How
do you feel going up there? Do you feel confident?

Speaker 5 (10:38):
All?

Speaker 2 (10:38):
Like this team just feels confident And I don't know
about you. Every time I'm watching a game and I
see him there down by a run, it's like Andrew's
favorite hockey team, the Oilers. They were saying the last
night between first and second period, Kevin Bixigo their down
one nothing. Vegas had a one nothing leading, and Kevin
goes and he was ready. He goes. Evanson's got him
right where they want him, got him right where they
want him. They're trailing after one, and sure enough they

(10:58):
came back and took two to two goal leads and
finally got the winning overtime. That's what they do. Mariners
are the same way. They fall behind by a run
two or three. Hell, they were fell behind five nothing
the other game, two nights ago, two days ago, came
storming back. I see cal Rawley at the plate, I
think there's gonna be a clutch base hit. I see
Randi rose Arena. I don't even care what his batting
average is or was on. I see him up there
with runners of scorm. I feel like, in a clutch situation,

(11:21):
he's gonna hit. I know, Chris and Mark, we're just
talking about clutch players, and is Lebron clutch or not?
What have you? I know this there are some players
this season for the Mariners that all the way up
and down the lineup, they seemed to be clutch. I mean,
Ben Williams has got a handful of RBIs they all
seem to come off a broken bat of bloop or
something with two outs, but he gets.

Speaker 3 (11:38):
Them all matters someone different every night.

Speaker 2 (11:41):
And they never and it never says in there was
it a bloop single? Like I know, we're all infatuated
with VLO exit VLOA. You know what Ben Williams in
Exit Vilo at sixty three miles an hour blooping a
single for two RBIs that that doesn't matter. It's still
an RBI. So these guys got to go on right now,
get out and support them this weekend. And I guess
you want to have to worry about my friends from
Canada coming down. I'm bothering you if you're a Mariner fan,

(12:02):
So get on out there, you know what. And while
you're out there, go support the local businesses along the
waterfront in Pineer Square Sodo area, because they're gonna this
should have been a boom for them this weekend and
it's not gonna be and that's a bummer. So my
shout outs our friends at Ivers and you know, Elliott's
Oyster House and obviously Silver Cloud and Jimmy's and all
those places. Man go support on this weekend. We'll take
a break come back, Danie O'Neil join us next.

Speaker 1 (12:24):
It's time now for Danny O'Neal of the Dang Apostrophe,

York City, brought to you by Northwest Handling Systems. From

(12:45):
five two five five zero five hundreds. Now here's the
end with Danny o'neio.

Speaker 2 (12:52):
I always look forward to our Friday visits with Danny O'Neil,
who joins us right now in the Beacon Pummy Hotline.
Although Daniel, I do look forward to the visits, although
I think part of it might be the fact that
when I check in with you on a Friday, it's
because it's a Friday, and I look forward to Fridays.
To be honest with you as well, how are you?

Speaker 6 (13:10):
I'm good. I feel like I'm the coal in the
Canary mine. Come on, it's like it's all downhill from here.

Speaker 4 (13:16):
Baby.

Speaker 2 (13:17):
Oh exactly, no, no, no, it's it's always a fun conversation.
Lots going on that we can get to. First of all,
you're not in the sports radio business on a daily
basis anymore. But I do thank you because you know,
you did come up with a topic I was thinking
about the other day. So thank you for Oklahoma City.
I appreciate that we did. We did a whole show
on that.

Speaker 7 (13:37):
Oh man, I don't ever want to stop hating them,
and people will call someone a hater, thinking it's a
bad thing, and I'm like.

Speaker 8 (13:45):
No, I wear that with pride.

Speaker 2 (13:46):
Damn right.

Speaker 9 (13:47):
The most the most consistently enjoyable thing that I've done
as a sports fan is to root fervently against Oklahoma
City over the.

Speaker 7 (13:58):
Past really fourteen years, and it's absolutely fantastic.

Speaker 6 (14:03):
I'm a little nervous.

Speaker 7 (14:05):
I am a little nervous right now, but I have
faith that they're gonna be able to choke this away,
just like they have multiple other championship opportunities.

Speaker 2 (14:12):
See, I'm a little worried, too, buddy. Like that's the thing, Like,
I'm a little I think we're all a little bit
concerned because this team, even though I mean, they've got
you know, Sag Holmgren all that stuff, But you know
before when it was the Harden Durant Westbrook, Oh god,
they're probably gonna win this thing show and they didn't.

(14:33):
That was massively stressful. But this team number one seed
ay ye, I'm a little worried, man, I am a
little worried about this one.

Speaker 7 (14:43):
That the West, how the well, really the whole playoffs
at this point there is you're gonna.

Speaker 6 (14:49):
Be hard pressed to find a favorite.

Speaker 7 (14:51):
And that's both exciting and very nerve wracking because it's
very possible that the team they're playing right now Denver
might be the toughest opponent that they'll face between here
and a championship series.

Speaker 6 (15:05):
I'm not not.

Speaker 7 (15:06):
Certain about that, but the way it's shaken out, Steph
Curry being kind of banged up, and Minnesota's still up,
and there's part of me that.

Speaker 6 (15:15):
Thinks that this might be the best chance to get them.

Speaker 10 (15:18):
But I was, I was very encouraged because Chet Holmgren,
regardless if you're a zag fan or not, Chet Holmgren
wanted no part of those free throws.

Speaker 2 (15:29):
No no, no, no, he didn't.

Speaker 8 (15:34):
You could see it. I was.

Speaker 6 (15:35):
I was.

Speaker 7 (15:36):
I have explained to my wife what lemon booty is
when you watch someone pucker up in one of those
big moments, and that was a grade A case of
lemon booty.

Speaker 5 (15:47):
Oh.

Speaker 2 (15:47):
I love that. For we were talking about the other
day and and you know, for me, it's I might
I did mention this. Maybe I won't worry about it
and be concerned about it once we get the Sonics
back and hopefully what they do at that point to say,
all right, let's go back to the basketball reference page
and we'll take sixty seven through two thousand and eight.

(16:09):
We'll put it back over here and then resume in twenty,
say twenty twenty seven. There's just a gap, right, and
that's that's the Seattle SuperSonics history. And then we go
to Oklahoma City and you guys started in the eighth
nine season, and that's you. Because I hope they do that.
And if they do do that, then frankly after that
they win whatever, that's fine. We move on, Danny because

(16:32):
until then, though, I can't the part that drives me nuts.
I cannot stand. Oh, first chance in the titles in
seventy nine, first this and seventy nine or or so,
and so is doing this. The last time that was done,
it was Dale Ellis or it was Xavier McDaniel or
it was Gary Paton, like no, no, no, no, no,
no no, that was our team. You guys left. That's

(16:52):
that that team ended. That team died in O eight.
That's what I kind of find myself thinking, like, until then,
they can't win. After then we have a team playing
at Climate Pledge. I'm okay.

Speaker 6 (17:04):
At that point, I might feel that way.

Speaker 7 (17:07):
However, it's very possible that I'm gonna subscribe and follow
the same rules that I've followed with every breakup in
my life, which is that I just don't want them
to be happier than me, you could call so I
will continue to feel that they really In the first
couple of years after they moved, I wasn't indifferent, but

(17:30):
I didn't hate him.

Speaker 6 (17:31):
I didn't hate him. And there was even part of me.

Speaker 7 (17:33):
That thought because I love Kevin Durant as a player,
I love Russell Westbrook as a player, and as they
were putting that team together, and there was like, I
wonder if I'll end up liking them. And then came
that twenty eleven season, and I don't think that was
the first year they made the playoffs. I think it
was the second, but it was the first time they
won a playoff series and they were playing the Nuggets,

(17:53):
coached by George carl and they clinched it at home,
and I watched that entire arena celebrate and I just
became the mayor of bitter Town, and it was you
can't lose in heartbreaking No, no, I want. I want
the most pain possible. And you're right, like, maybe maybe
when the Sonics come back, it's it's not going to

(18:14):
be so fervent, but there is a not small part
of me that wants me to hate them like this
forever because it's kind of fun.

Speaker 2 (18:21):
Okay, I'm I'm a little I'm kind of full of
it because I will always hate them. I will just
it will it will be. It will be something along
the lines that I can stomach it a little bit more.
If if we have a team here and they have
success now whoever that if if our team's not in
the playoffs and they are and they'll take I will

(18:44):
root for the other team every day. I don't care
if it's you know that whatever he is, Lebron James
guy doing his thing flopping around, or if it's Draymond.
I'm not angry running around. I don't care. I'll root
for anybody besides them. It'll just be easier for me
to be easier to stomach. But I'm with you. I
think what part of the thing was Danny. When they left,

(19:04):
you know, they were they were really bad in Seattle
and seven oh eight, Like, I mean, they were so bad.
Then the next year they go to Oklahoma City. The
first year there they were almost as bad. They won
twenty games. The last year in Seattle they won twenty
three year one in Oklahoma City, but damn they go
from twenty three to fifty wins that next year, like

(19:26):
they they didn't have to suffer very long in Oklahoma
City at all, Like that's part of it, like pay
your dues man, Like you didn't have to suffer one
set one year. It's a honeymoon. Then you I think,
what was that? That's what they drafted Harden, right, Yeah,
so it was like Westbrook, Durant Hard and Obaka oh
okay and a glue guy Nick Collison. Yeah, it works

(19:46):
like you guys didn't have to worry about anything.

Speaker 7 (19:49):
Yeah, And then I would hear people talk about the
small market miracle that was the Oklahoma Oh God.

Speaker 6 (19:55):
Get the hell out of here.

Speaker 7 (19:56):
Like, you tanked deliberately, and I'm not even saying it
was the wrong place tank, but you tank deliberately while
you were in Seattle. We paid the tank tax. We're
the ones that suffered through that. We had to endure PJ.
Carlesimo as an NBA coach, which was god awful. And
then it's like, oh boy, we have.

Speaker 6 (20:13):
Three of the top twenty five players in the league.
You think you'd be interested in the team with that.
It's like, oh, it's.

Speaker 8 (20:19):
A miracle that everybody supports.

Speaker 6 (20:21):
No it's not.

Speaker 8 (20:22):
No, it's not a miracle.

Speaker 7 (20:23):
We got the shaft, we got hose, and I'll hate
you forever for it.

Speaker 2 (20:27):
Well when they try, God, I'm just looking through hang on.
I said, well, I'm doing some math on the air.
Just don't worry. I'm not gonna do I'm gonna actually
down here. They were a collective sixty two games under
five hundred the last two years in Seattle. Wow. And
crazy thing is people still went to the games like
there's this weird you were here, you covered it, you know,

(20:49):
there's this weird misnomer out there. Well, if you would
have supported the team, they were sixty two games under
five hundred, they still have a twelve thousand fans, come on, yes,
in a really crappy arena, to be honest with you, you,
especially by today's standards, like.

Speaker 6 (21:02):
And one of the smallest that was there.

Speaker 7 (21:04):
And that whole part of it, the idea that Seattle
Seattle's politicians. You can blame Seattle's politicians for them leaving.

Speaker 6 (21:14):
You can't blame the fans.

Speaker 7 (21:15):
And any attempt to blame the fans is absolutely infuriating.

Speaker 6 (21:20):
And yeah, it's just I.

Speaker 7 (21:23):
Think we've got a right to be matt and people
will preach this idea of forgiveness, and you always like,
let bygones be bygones. No, no, no, no, there are
consequences for certain actions, and the consequences for this.

Speaker 6 (21:36):
I don't blame the Oklahoma City fans. No. I certainly
don't wish them well either.

Speaker 2 (21:40):
No. I think they need to enjoy misery for a
long time. But they've been in the playoffs twelve to
seventeen years, and they've been in Oklahoma City. That's a
pretty good run. Like, you know, like the best thing
that happened that franchise was Sam Presty. We only got
him for a year. When he's trying to tank, right,
So I mean that's the that's hardly Daniel Neil joining
his dang a postphe By the way, brought to you

the a's And I brought this up this week because
you wrote about it. I said the same thing on
the air. I think what we're seeing in Sacramento with
that franchise is an absolute embarrassment. But I do kind
of equate. There's a little bit, there's some common I

(22:24):
think part of it is how I feel because of
the Sonics. I feel for Oakland Athletics fans. And my
buddy John Lunn comes on this week and we're talking
about that's he's in the Bay Area and we're medi
a weekly thing with him, and it's like, yeah, you know,
Oakland fans aren't going up there. Well, of course they're not.
Like if if the Sonics before they went to Oklahoma
City would have gone to what's an hour and a

(22:45):
half away, let's just say Vancouver or something, or Portland,
one of those two places.

Speaker 6 (22:49):
For Tempy and the sun Dome.

Speaker 2 (22:51):
Yeah, yeah, we're not going to go support them, knowing
that because they're leaving for good, So why would we
go support them? But the fact that Major League Baseball
allowed them to move without a guarantee in Vegas and
without a home and leave and go and play in
a minor league ballpark where the major league players have
to walk through center field like in spring training and

(23:12):
go to a trailer for a clubhouse and almost what
are we doing? Like, what the hell is going on here?

Speaker 9 (23:18):
Yeah?

Speaker 7 (23:19):
It really I've heard it's a really nice place to
watch a game, and I can believe that, and the
outfield berm and the trees that are out there. But
knowing what Oakland the Coliseum became, and what that experience
is like, and just how flat out little the ownership

(23:40):
invested into the on field product, it is surprising to
me that Major League Baseball lets owners operate in that way,
because you would think it brings down the value of everybody.
It looks like an absolute mickey mouse organization because it
is an absolute mickey mouse organization run by the gap

(24:02):
baby Neppo child who absolutely has There.

Speaker 6 (24:06):
Was an opportunity to stay in Oakland, and they decided
that it wasn't good enough for them because you really
wanted to go to Las Vegas.

Speaker 7 (24:12):
And it's If there's one thing that I loathe about
the way that pro sports in America works, it's that
we do let these rich dwebs.

Speaker 6 (24:25):
Decide where they're going to put their toys.

Speaker 7 (24:27):
I really fundamentally think that you shouldn't be able to
just decide you want to leave a market. And you
can call me some sort of pinko communists for feeling
that way, but I think that's.

Speaker 6 (24:41):
A way that European soccer clubs have it right. They
don't relocate, They belong to the town that there is.

Speaker 7 (24:46):
Yeah, and it just it infuriates me and a little
bit the same. Now the A's are finally starting to
spend a little money on their product.

Speaker 6 (24:55):
They look like they're at.

Speaker 7 (24:57):
Least a decent and defend Major League operations. Yeah here,
and the fact that that's happening as they left Oakland,
it's it's it's criminal.

Speaker 2 (25:07):
Did you just drop an archie bunker ism on me,
a Pinko commy? Is that what you just did? I
think you did. There's like there's like ten of us
that got that.

Speaker 7 (25:14):
But okay, that's what John Nordstrom, whom I loved desperately
told me one time, some of the Pinko commedy stuff
that you think And I was like, I'm not going
to contest that, sir.

Speaker 2 (25:29):
Oh what was that? A bunch of Pinko commis hanging
out at your alma water this weekend destroying that millions
of dollars of equipment in the engineering department?

Speaker 8 (25:37):
Was that?

Speaker 2 (25:37):
Are those all Pinko commedies? Danny?

Speaker 11 (25:39):
Yeah, I'm a grumpy old man with that sort of stuff.
I was like, get some jobs, go go, go do
something worthwhile. Like I don't care if all of those guys,
I think they should all be locked into the weird
shape Pedelford Hall so they could never get out after
what they did.

Speaker 8 (25:54):
That was that was ridiculous.

Speaker 2 (25:56):
The governor's a U double lum. I don't know if
if if he was a wazuulum that happened to my school.
I want them to take like I've won. There's been
times when I was at Wazu that I was really angry.
I'll admit that, and then I'd come to the conclusion
why was I angry? Well, self inflicted, like I didn't
go to class or I didn't study. That's why I
was angry. It had nothing to do with what was
going on on campus. But today's kids, Danny, Today's kids

(26:19):
along the way, Hey, brain, it it tolely melts their brains.
The Blue Jays are in town this weekend. I mentioned,
and I know I might speaking of being in a
little bit in the minority and people not liking me.
What I say, I'm gonna miss not having thousands of
Blue Jays fans here this weekend. I think in one
hundred and sixty two games season and you know, eighty

(26:41):
one home games and all the series you have, I
always thought it was kind of and I know people
got mad because the fans would come here and quote
take over the ballpark, and really there's a simple solution
if you're mad by a ticket. But nevertheless, like I
thought it was awesome. I thought it was really cool.
It made a different atmosphere, It broke up the monotony
of one hundred and sixty two games, and really, if

(27:01):
we're being honest, there haven't been a lot of special
in quotation series for this team since they opened the ballpark.
Really is not since two thousand and one. Really right
like where it's it feels like it's bigger than just Hey,
three games against the team from the Al East. But
there are by all reports, we're gonna have not many
Canadian visitors this weekend for a variety of reasons. I
am gonna miss it. I know not, I'll believe. I

(27:23):
already got a text from my fan, my friend Dick Fane,
what do you think about non they're not having as
many Canadians here.

Speaker 7 (27:30):
I loved going to the series when the Blue Jay
fans came down, and I will admit to being particularly
combative with the blue Jay fans. No yet in a
very nice way, Like I have very specific rules when
it comes to heckling opponents and fans of opposing teams.

Speaker 6 (27:48):
There's no swearing it.

Speaker 7 (27:50):
Really, it has to be somewhat fun and good natured.
The people around you should be laughing about it. If
they're not laughing, that means there's kind of a problem.

Speaker 6 (27:59):
But I did.

Speaker 7 (28:00):
I loved it, and there was one I'm not gonna
remember the year there was one game where it was
pretty close late and then there started.

Speaker 6 (28:10):
There was some lightning in the distance, and the roof
came closed, and there was just and it.

Speaker 7 (28:16):
Was a Marrier's rally, and there were some kids in
front of us who were helping me give hell to
the Blue Jays fans as the Mariners were rolling away.
Some of my favorite memories over the past ten years
have been Mariner's series against Blue Jays with all of
the fans down there the invasion. So I'm a little
bummed to hear that there's not going to be I
wondered about that. Yeah, I've read the stories about for example,

(28:40):
Blaine and Blaine's economy has just been decimated because people
just aren't crossing the border are mad, and that that
is a bummer Because I think rivalries and a little
bit of honest to goodness friction is great.

Speaker 6 (28:55):
It's what gives sports stakes. I love that about it.

Speaker 2 (28:58):
You know what said, I hadn't even thought in terms
of the rivalry between the teams, But if we think
about it, that's if you take the Houston series out
because they're in your division. I mean the Blue Jays
in a sense or arrival, right, that was the last
playoff series not named the Astros. I mean, do you.

Speaker 7 (29:15):
Remember Marko Gonzalez after that start, he got really mad,
not on our table. He talked about how he does
take it personal when they come down in their faithful fans,
wipe their muddy boots all over our carpet and couches
tickets up.

Speaker 2 (29:32):
That's which is awesome, right, bring it on. That's what
we should have. That we need that stuff because there's
no rivalries in baseball unless you're the Yankees and the
Red Sox, so than what the Cubs and the Cardinals
may be, right, I mean, they're just Dodgers Giants. There's
a hamp but like we don't have one. We get
forced this stupid San Diego rivalry. It's not a rivalry.
Nobody cares like, nobody cares about that at all. This

(29:55):
is it should be fun. It should be a wild
and yeah, the Blaine, you know a lot of it
seems to be when just asking around with some of
the folks up in north of the border of my
media friends, it's it's a combination of a lot of things,
you know, Confusion about what you can do bring across
the border and back and forth border crossings are longer
than they normally are. Canadian dollars stinks right now, blah blah,

(30:17):
all these things end result Danny is just it won't
be the same this weekend. And the other thing is
it's in May. Like like I'll be honest with you, Baseball,
pull your head out please, Like there's certain like this
is like, you know, kids are in school today north
of the border, so families aren't coming down, Like understand,
why is Toronto here today? How about if they're here

(30:38):
in July or August? Right, It's like when we get
a one Yankee series a year, it's this week, it's May,
and it's middle of the week. Like I don't think
they do a lot to help some of their teams sometimes.

Speaker 6 (30:49):
I would definitely agree with that part of it.

Speaker 7 (30:51):
And your producer, in the spirit of the rivalry, several
years ago, made t shirts that said not on our
table as a rallying.

Speaker 3 (31:00):
We gave one to Marco.

Speaker 8 (31:04):
You know.

Speaker 2 (31:04):
The worst part about that for Marco is remember he
was inactive for that playoff series, was even on the
active roster. The poor guy.

Speaker 5 (31:12):
My favorite tweet came from Angie Mentek and she goes,
why did it have to be the kitchen table.

Speaker 12 (31:18):
I know.

Speaker 5 (31:21):
He was very specific, aggressive, image beautiful. I still have
that T shirt somewhere. It will live with me forever.

I'd put myself in that category. So we'll see. I'd

dot Com. All right, Rob, before you indulge later on
this afternoon in some Ferrelli's Pizza down there in the
South Sound, Let's talk NFL Draft. It's been a couple
of weeks. We've had a rookie mini camp, and you

(42:53):
and I haven't spoken since we were sitting at the
Virginia Mason Athletics Center on that Saturday morning, and since
then a few more picks and I mentioned that mini
camp has taken place. Let's wrap up just in general
terms before we talk about specifics. How did John Schneider
and his scouting staff do in your mind? Rob Rang
from Fox sports dot Com in the twenty and twenty

(43:13):
five NFL Draft.

Speaker 8 (43:15):
You know, Ian, I thought that the Seahawks did better
than any other team in the entire NFL, and I
wrote as much on Fox Sports. Gave the Seahawks an a.
There were two other clubs that also gave a's too,
but we you know, we live in an era now,
of course, where they want numbers to kind of justify
these selections rather than just giving a letter grade. Those

(43:36):
other two clubs, by the way, were the Buffalo Bills
and Pete Carroll's Las Vegas Raiders. But you know, when,
to me, when you look at a team like the Seahawks,
who were right on the edge of the playoffs, I
think it's more difficult to have a spectacular draft, and
it is for say a team that has struggled to
get into the playoff conversation like the Raiders, you know,

(43:57):
and the Buffalo Bills again, I think you got to
tip your to them as well, because obviously they are
a Super Bowl contending club. But I just love the
aggression that they showed. I think when you look at
the Seahawks, and it's the fact that they showed the
aggression and going up and getting nick Emon Worri for example,
of course, and then also just kind of check the
boxes that they needed to check with the selection of

(44:19):
Gray Zabel, getting some more pass catchers to allow Sam
Donald to flourish here in his first season in Seattle.
I'm really excited about the potential that is Elijah Royo,
as well as the wide receivers and Tory Horton and
Ricky White to third, who we talked about as possibly

(44:39):
being candidates for the seas as early as the third round,
and for Seattle to get them and get those two
pass catchers in the fifth and seventh round, respectively. I
think that John Schneider and his scouts just did a
masterful job of really reading the board and checking off
every box that they possibly needed to to make that
postseason push.

Speaker 2 (44:59):
Rob in general terms, from where they ended last season
with ten wins, and maybe we want to put an
asterisk next to the ten because it was the Rams
kind of mailed in the final game. Let's just say
they won nine to nine and a half games. Still
a good season season, certainly not a team that had
to strip it down to the bare bones the foundation rebuild.
But from there losing Geno Smith, dk Metcalf, Tyler Lockett,

(45:23):
and I always point out we all love Tyler Lockett.
He did not have a productive year last year like that,
like that's a He was every bit of third or
fourth receiver at best. So really it's Metcalf and it's
Gino replacing them with Darnold, with Cooper Cup and then
with what they did in the draft. Are the Seahawks
better than they were at the end, and I should
throw on DeMarcus Lawrence as well. Are they better than

(45:45):
they were personnel wise, including this rookie class, than they
were when they finished the season.

Speaker 8 (45:50):
At least, in my opinion, unquestionably better. I think that
they are better on defense, think they're better on offense.
I think they're younger, they still have a awful lot
of tap flexibility. Right now, we're gonna you know, we're
of course, of course approaching June first, when you're going
to see some players who get released, and the Seahawks

(46:11):
are going to be in position to be players in
that market if they'd like. You know, there's a possible
reunification of with Jadeveon Clowney or a Shaquille Griffin, you know,
former popular Seahawks in the past that play positions that
still might be a little bit of a concern, not
necessarily for starters, but for depth. And so in my

(46:32):
opinion and that there's no doubt that the Seahawks are
in a better position in Mike McDonald's second season in Seattle,
and I think that there is a better marriage between
the talent that's on the field and the coaches that
are going to be preparing those players to have that success.

Speaker 2 (46:49):
We saw Gray's Abel, the first round pick, rob the
number eighteen overall, he was at left guard last weekend. Again,
it's just rookie mini camp and a lot of us
just learning where to put the helmet when you stretch
and stuff like that. Very bare ball and stuff, but
we saw him there. Uh Cable Doo was it right
guard as well? Richmond was a backup tackle. I believe
it was. So I mean, let's just start with kind

(47:10):
of Zabel is able to left guard right now? I mean,
would you pencil him and as a starter?

Speaker 8 (47:15):
Not only pencil man, I'd SHARPI a man. I think
that grays Abel's you know, his talent, uh, you know,
speaks for itself obviously as being the first or the
earliest selection that the Seahawks have used an interior offensive
lineman since the of course the great Steve Hutchinson. And
and we know that the Seahawks have long long prioritized

(47:36):
players who stood out at the Senior Bowl, and as
we talked about throughout the draft, show Gray's Abel was
dominant at the Senior Bowl, and he was dominant the
combine as well. It's the position of versatility. The intelligence
is one of the reasons why I actually thought that
he could play the center position in the NFL. And
that's a that's a rarity. Uh, you know, it's a

(47:56):
projective player who had never played center. For me to
project him at the center again, it's because of all
the rave reviews that I was getting from scouts who
were traveling through far Ago to see you know, North
Dakota State in action, going to the locker room and
talk to their coaches. I think that Zabel has the
athletic ability, the intelligence, the physicality, the durability, everything that

(48:18):
you're looking for to be a quality and you know,
immediate impact kind of a player along the offensive line
for a Sea X squad that we all know really
needed that type of a presence along the offensive line.

Speaker 2 (48:31):
Is Bryce Cable Dooe. Is he a guy that you
think will be and should be in the mix at
the other guard position or even guard depth. He's a
sixth round pick. We know that guards are never I
mean sixth round picks really from from picks, you know,
fourth to fifth on especially fifth, although the actually have
cut some fourth rounders over the years. With John Schneider,

(48:52):
is Cable do a guy a late round pick that
you expect and can be in the mix.

Speaker 8 (48:55):
Though I do think that he's gonna be in the
mix now. I'm still very high on Christian Haynes and uh,
you know Cintel Alawameya, even Anthony Bradford. I think if
Anthony Bradford is committed to taking advantage of his physical
skill sets, there's no doubt that he struggled with consistency.
But you know, the the hides with Anthony Bradford still

(49:17):
are very very high. And now of course he's gonna
be There's got lots of competition, and he is going
to be very motivated entering the final year of his
rookie contract, and and and motivated Anthony Bradford. I still
think it's somebody to consider as well that all that
set Bright cable do. To me, his athletic ability is
every bit is good, perhaps even better at least in

(49:38):
some metrics than Great's abel. And I just think that's
the the success that we've seen recent offensive linemen from
North Dakota State in in Zabels in Zabel's points and
then from Kansas.

Speaker 9 (49:54):
Uh.

Speaker 8 (49:54):
When it comes to Cable due their success in the
NFL just speaks for itself.

Speaker 4 (49:58):
Uh, you know.

Speaker 8 (49:59):
And so to me, that's one of the reasons why
I am very intrigued by what Cable do might Cable
Dow might be able to provide the Seahawks. I do
think he's gonna make this roster. I do think that
he provides that much more depth for the Seahawks. That
again a position of a huge concern.

Speaker 2 (50:13):
Rob rang joining us foxsports dot Com here on the
Beacon Plumbing hotline. All right, let's come through some of
the other guys along the way. And you know, since
we last spoke, and that because we were we were done.
This was a Chuck powllpick. I think round seven, Damian
Martinez was picked from Miami. We had him on last
week we were out there. It was pretty awesome to
be honest with you, having having this young guy on.

(50:36):
I mean that, very fun guy to talk to you.
And I know, what's a guy we talked about in
the pre draft process. I feel like if you're looking
for what was Seattle's biggest steal was Damian Martinez in
the seventh round the steal the draft, at least for
this particular team.

Speaker 8 (50:52):
I think Jamian Martinez and Tory Horton around earlier in
the fifth round. To me, those are very much qualified
for that. I mean, I think you can throw in
Rodley Mills, defensive tackle from Notre game in that conversation
as well. The only reason I would kind of hesitate
with Mills is, of course, the fact that we just
don't know if he's going to be able to play
this season. All educations are that he will. He certainly

(51:14):
expects to do that. But you know, that's one of
the reasons why Ian that I gave the Seahawks and
a As I mentioned before, but Damie Martinez is one
of my favorite running backs in this draft class. That's
saying an awful lot because I think that this running
back class was historic, but I just love the physicality
in which he plays. There is a cutback run for

(51:35):
a touchdown that he had against Iowa State in the
bowl game, you know, the one that cam Ward number
one overall picked, only played half of the game. It
was Damian Martinez who has got the very first big
play for the Miami Hurricanes in that game, and people
out here in the Pacific Northwest are going to remember
Gammi Martinez for how successfully was at Oregon State. I

(51:56):
just love the fact that he was able to make
that transition from what used to be of course the
Pac twelve, go to the ACC in Miami and then
be able to literally hit the ground running and be
a successful back. I mean three seasons, three times he
was the leading rusher for his team. Three times he
eclips in a thousand yard rushing mark. And again, I

(52:17):
just think that he has a perfect fit for this
wide zone blocking offense where it's all about vision. It's
about the initial burst when you make your cut, can
you go. I don't care so much about the forty
yard dash time, but he had a good forty yard
dat things four or five to one at two hundred
and seventeen pounds. That's that's moving pretty dark good. I
just think that in the you know, from the late round,

(52:39):
Damian Martinez to me absolutely qualifies as one of the
real steals of this draft class.

Speaker 2 (52:43):
Rob I would talk a little bit more about that
position for a second if we could, because you know,
Kenneth Walker is going into his fourth and final year
of his rookie deal. One thousand yards his rookie season,
nine touchdowns. His second season, he had nine hundred and
five yards and eight touchdowns. Last season, he still had
seven touchdowns, but he had just five hundred and seventy

(53:06):
three yards. He only played eleven of seventeen games last season,
and I'd probably actually make it closer to about nine
and a half games last year. He missed two games
the previous year, as a previous two years as well,
played fifteen in his rookie year, fifteen last year. So
we'll talk durability. I guess in a sense, I see
people and this is being talked about, written, debated on

(53:26):
the radio, and whatever else you want to look at about. Well,
you know they're getting ready for life after Ken Walker.
And maybe that's true.

Speaker 4 (53:34):
Rob.

Speaker 2 (53:35):
I've always been a subscriber to the thought. I don't
think you get rid of good players and get better.
I think you hope like a guy like Walker in
this particular offense, and you know, maybe he's health Hopefully
he's healthy, the kids put together. I mean, I think
he's had bad luck with injuries. I don't think he's
quote injury prone and things like that. I think Walker

(53:56):
leading the way with whatever combination if you have with Sharman,
Macintosh and Martinez, I think you're a really strong football
team running the football at that point. I think you're
better with Walker than without Walker. But what's your read
on what the future of Walker might be.

Speaker 8 (54:11):
I think that I agree with you. I think that
you're not going to become a better team if you're
allowing really good players to walk out the door. And
the same thing we talked about before with Anthony Bradford,
the fact that Tamoth Walker entering the final year of
the rookie contract, he is going to be as motivated
as ever. And you know, I was unable to attend

(54:32):
the rookie min camp, and of course Camth Walker third
wouldn't have been there on the field practicing anyways. But
I did kind of reach out to the scouts coaches
that were there as well, and and I asked him
about some of the veteran players who are just absolutely
destroying the you know, their uh this process that the
offseason and just showing their commitment and they really think

(54:54):
are are on the cusp of great things. And Camth Walker,
the third to a man was listed by everybody as
far as being a guy that they were very, very
excited about. I thought that it was interesting too that,
you know, in the in the post draft conversations with
Josh Shire and Mike McDonald, they were kind of talking
about some of the guys who are like true blue Seahawks,
and you know, I was expecting to hear names like

(55:16):
some of the you know, the Leonard Williams of the world,
the Devin Witherspins of the world. They also mentioned Keamoth
Walker the third, so you know, I know that it
makes for interesting fodder out there that you know, hey,
trade away Camith Walker the third because you have all
these other talented backs. I still think that K nine
is the lead dog, so to speak, in that backfield,
and that he is the one that that is the

(55:37):
true difference maker when healthy. Obviously, the durability concerns are
out there, and that's why Seattle was wise to continue
to take advantage of the depth of this running back
class and get themselves in quality football players. But I
also think that if the Seahawks arguing to making that
deep postseason run, I would be surprised that camth Walker
the Third isn't a major part of that.

Speaker 2 (55:59):
Push of the skilled guys. They picked Arroyo, the tight
end of Miami, Milroe the quarterback out of Alabama, Horton,
the wide receiver out of Colorado. I'm sorry, Robbie Oots,
you're a full back. I'm not going to conclude you
in the conversation here, Damian Martinez the running back. We
talked about a Ricky White, who's a wide receiver, kind
of special teams guy. Out of all those guys, which

(56:19):
of those skill position offensive players do you think is
going to make the biggest impact the rookie season.

Speaker 8 (56:26):
Actually, I'm gonna go with lajar Royo, And with all
due respect to no a fan, you know, and I
really think that that his speed, his abilia tracked the
ball over his shoulder, and then just the soft hands.
I think that there were a couple of throws that
cam Warden made to Royal this past year were in

(56:47):
didn't even have his head turned, you know, to make
the ball or to make the catch. I mean, he
basically just kind of at the very last second was
turning his head, the ball was on him, and he
just snatched the ball out of the air like it
was just the most effortless thing. It looked like a
wide receiver. And of course when you and I were
talking with Hugh Millon, you know, during the draft itself,
when when Arroyo was selected, I mean huge excitement was

(57:10):
like something I hadn't seen from him since the Seaox
of course trade or drafted DK Metcalf all those years ago.
And that to me, anytime you have our quarterback getting
all excited about a pass catcher, then that's gonna get
me that much more excited as well. I have to,
you know, be clear here, I want to speak out
both sides of my mouth. I was as excited about
Arroyo in the lead up to the draft, because again

(57:33):
I have reservations about durability, and this is the guy
that entered this past season with eleven career catches on
his resume, but it was because of injuries. And you know,
I've been fortunate enough to talk with Mario Christaball, of course,
the Miami head coach now and previously at Oregon. I
spoke with christal Ball in the past when he was
at the Oregon Ducks and Morris Trophy Awards and things

(57:55):
of that nature. And again, this was a player in
Arroyo that christ of Ball just about now that he
is healthy, you're going to see exactly what he is.
I think the Seahawks got again another steal here in
a player that I think is going to make a
good tight end room already that much better.

Speaker 2 (58:11):
All Right, we're wrapping up with this Rob Rang Fox
sports dot Com our draft analysts. Of course, we talked
to him all fall and on every Friday before college
football weekend and then certainly leading up to the draft
process as well. You also heard him with the Morning Show,
and of course you heard him. We used and abused
Rob Rang for a few days out of the Virginia
Mason Athletics Centator in the draft. But that makes our
draft coverage, having robbed there better than anybody else in

(58:32):
the market. There's no doubt about that final thing going
now ahead. You mentioned there's some salary cap space. There
could be cutdowns coming up June first, post June first
for teams around the league. What does Seattle need to
add still, Rob, I.

Speaker 8 (58:45):
Still think the depth at corner and pass rusher, it
would make some sense.

Speaker 6 (58:49):
Not necessarily.

Speaker 8 (58:50):
I mentioned before jadeveon Clowney, and look, I thought the
Clowney really played very well when he was brought into
Seattle years ago, and then he was even better under
Mike mcgald a couple of years back in Baltimore. So
I think that he would make some sense. But I
almost wonder if another stand up rusher rather than a
traditional hand in the dirt kind of a defensive lineman

(59:11):
like Clowney has been much of his career, would make
some sense. So I'm interested to see. I know that
there's a lot of folks out there who want them
to continue to add to the offensive line group, and
as we talked about it, I wasn't expecting the Seahawks
to really make that a high priority, and they of
course did so be using number eighteen overall on an

(59:32):
offensive line, but then not using it again until you know,
day three of the draft. So I don't think that
that necessarily a position of concern. Again, I would say
cornerback pass rusher, and I wouldn't be surprised of if
there's another veteran wide receiver it's out there that would
make some sense.

Speaker 2 (59:48):
Also, Buddy, this wraps it up for us on a
regular basis, training camp, mini camps and all. That still
means we may check in with you if one or
both of us head out to some of those events
and we can talk some more. Get your depressions. But
in the meantime, you know how much I value your
your opinions and your knowledge and our weekly discussions in
the fall and in the spring. And it was so

(01:00:08):
awesome once again to have you part of our KJR
draft coverage, which was just apps. And Jessman can attest
to this. She's worked at a different place. And would
you say, how good is ours compared to guess that
I've ever worked with? And part of that is our guy, Rob.
There's no doubt about yeah. And we appreciate you coming
on my friend as well. It's been a fun year

Speaker 12 (01:02:19):
Imagine if you will, a typical Blue Jays Mariners series
in Seattle, where the Mariners hitters are the hot ones
and the Mariner's pictures are struggling. Yet it's the Mariners
on a winning streak and there are no Blue Jays

(01:02:42):
fans in the stadium. I give you the Twilight Zone's
well done.

Speaker 5 (01:02:50):
I was very well done. I always like it when
people produce their own voicemail.

Speaker 8 (01:02:53):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (01:02:53):
I don't even know how to do that, So that's good.
That's very good. I'm very very good.

Speaker 4 (01:02:59):
Oh.

Speaker 2 (01:03:00):
Every now and then I throw something out there for
you guys to respond to, and then I regret every
second of doing so, and today would be one of
those days. By a dollar for every snowflake I saw here,
i'd be rich. Oh, by two dollars for every F
bomb I saw here, I'd be really rich. Just debating

(01:03:26):
what I want to read if I want to read
any of them.

Speaker 5 (01:03:29):
And by the way, those who are texting in the
keyword the cash contaest keyword.

Speaker 3 (01:03:33):
It's not going to get you anything. Oh yeah, you
have to enter it at the website.

Speaker 5 (01:03:38):
M As soon as you go to the website, it
pops up right there, so you just enter it in.

Speaker 3 (01:03:45):
It's very user.

Speaker 2 (01:03:46):
Friendly, seems to make it easy for you.

Speaker 3 (01:03:48):
Yes, right, yeah, well we liked it.

Speaker 6 (01:03:53):
Here.

Speaker 3 (01:03:53):
Let's get too.

Speaker 2 (01:03:54):
I got to come crowd probably close to thirty thousand
dollars from what I can tell, since twenty twenty one,
the COVID piece. Let's see, don't be a Trump hater America. First,
they can stay up there. Okay, Okay, that's that's what
it is.

Speaker 5 (01:04:10):
I think we've always had a fun rivalry when it
comes to Toronto Blue Toronto fans, I should say, even
the majority of them are coming down from Vancouver. And
now as much as that we want to shut them
up and is infuriating to get them take over the stadium.

Speaker 3 (01:04:24):
It was never contentious.

Speaker 2 (01:04:25):
Two five three how about we burn a Canadian flag
on the field before the game?

Speaker 3 (01:04:28):
Oh gosh no.

Speaker 2 (01:04:29):
They don't even let the media walk on them grass,
so they're not gonna let you burn a flag on
the field. That would cause all kinds of problems. Besides
the fact you're burning a Canadian flag on the field,
which would be a problem in itself. I would think
just wouldn't do that. All I know is a two
hundred level seats that I like to sit down and
usually cost me forty bucks or one thirty one this weekend.
Oh wow, really, well, is this one of those games?

(01:04:50):
It's one of those series. It's the you know they
have a flexible race, right. Oh yeah, Kansas City's here
on a Tuesday, doesn't cost as much as Trump.

Speaker 3 (01:04:57):
It is a weekend series too.

Speaker 2 (01:04:58):
I'm assuming that this guy's talking about the secondary market.
I don't know.

Speaker 3 (01:05:02):
Oh, that's true.

Speaker 2 (01:05:05):
It'd be nice to actually see more Mariners of the stands,
but that still might not be true. Lol, Stay up North,
U hosers.

Speaker 6 (01:05:13):
Oh yeah.

Speaker 5 (01:05:14):
Four two five hate Blue Jay fans, All Caps hate
being at or watching on TV when it's louder for
the away team than the home team. That's like saying
you like it when you see red in the stands
at Lumenfield when the Hawks play the Niners. Uh.

Speaker 2 (01:05:28):
Thanks. Ian love going to games where the team is
the vis Thanks you. I love going to games where
my team is a visitor. In a way, you learn
about places. I don't want to be part of an
insecure bunch of baby fans who can't just cheer louder
and buy more tickets. It's important to the hospitality industry
that we are hospital I hope sanity returns. That's one side.
The other one is, hang, I gotta find this who
gives a blankey in? You think everyone is going to

(01:05:50):
go out of business if Canadians don't come to a
baseball game. Did I say they're going out of business?

Speaker 12 (01:05:54):
No?

Speaker 5 (01:05:54):
You said that this is a big weekend for them
and they're losing out on it. Yeah, you did not
say going out of business.

Speaker 2 (01:05:59):
Yeah I didn't think going out of it. But it's
a tough world, the restaurant business these days.

Speaker 3 (01:06:04):
And it is, and every surge weekend does help.

Speaker 2 (01:06:07):
That's where our Buddies at Ivors and other places are
doing a discount, trying to make it more easy for
people to come down with the exchange rate and everything else.
I don't know. I think tourism is a good thing.
Maybe I'm an idiot according to many of you, I
am that's fine. I want to see clearly agree with
you and going to miss the Blue Jay fans. Good
for the city and the atmosphere is great. You're in

(01:06:29):
the minority by saying that the text. I appreciate that.

Speaker 3 (01:06:32):
Well, some people do enjoy it like you do.

Speaker 5 (01:06:34):
You know you're not alone. I like this coming from
the two five to three. You jinx the Celtics by
also rooting for the next jests. I might have to
sleep on the torch.

Speaker 2 (01:06:44):
What did I do now?

Speaker 4 (01:06:45):
No, I did.

Speaker 5 (01:06:45):
It was directed at me. It said you jinx the
Celtics by also rooting for the next Jess. And also
you sound just like Ashley. I'll take that as a compliment.

Speaker 2 (01:06:54):
By the way, Jo sixty and of course you like
the atmosphere over the year when the Blue Jays are
in town. You're Canadian, duh. I'm glad this is in
the middle of the summer, so it's difficult for them
to evade Seattle this year, and I'm not a Mariner's lover.
Until the ownership shows they want to win, they won't
get a penny for me and go dogs. Okay, so
there was a winky face on that one too, No,
that was the go dogs.

Speaker 6 (01:07:11):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (01:07:12):
Yeah. The other part of it is interesting because like
he's glad they're not coming, but I'm not a Mariner's
lover and I don't spend money on going to the games.

Speaker 5 (01:07:21):
I'm oh, yeah, it was the sound of Ian's nogg
and hitting the microphone. I just I.

Speaker 2 (01:07:31):
Sorry, headset fell off. I just sometimes need to bang
my head against something. Someday we're supposed to be on
like some sort of YouTube stream. That'll be hard because
the faces I make, the eyes that I roll's. I
mean sometimes it gets to the to the level of
a Kevin Chockey heavy side, but most of the time
it's just a shaking of the head and a rolling
of the eyes.

Speaker 3 (01:07:51):
Yeah, we will no longer have theater of the mind.

Speaker 2 (01:07:54):
I don't like it. I don't like it at all.
I don't like it at all. I want more fans
of more rivalry love hate, says the two, five to three.

Speaker 5 (01:08:05):
Well, you know, it's very interesting for me coming from
the East Coast, where there's a bazillion states all crammed
into a very small geographical area.

Speaker 3 (01:08:13):
Out here, there really is so like, there's not a.

Speaker 5 (01:08:16):
Geographical rival really except when you go to UDBM Wazoo. It'sregon, Washington,
Oregon Washington.

Speaker 3 (01:08:26):
Now one counts to Yeah.

Speaker 2 (01:08:27):
I mean, Apple Cup is going to diminish just because
of the fact they're not the same conference. It's just
it'll never be the same, so it doesn't matter anymore.
I mean, I still I still have an Oklahoma City
like loathing for for any all things Washington football, basketball,
I don't I don't like the softball team, I don't
like the golf team. I don't like anything of them.
But I don't think it'll ever be the same because

(01:08:48):
they're ones in the Big ten, and one is going
to be some point the new whatever, the new PAC
twelve looks like Oregon Washington's probably the best one right now.
It has me to say that, but no, it probably is.
But it seems very football centric. In fact, that seems
it is. It just it's very football centric. Yeah, you know,

(01:09:10):
hockey team, the hockey teams, probably with Vancouver got better
this year, but they need to play like a playoff
series and get the true hatred going. That'll be that'll
change everything.

Speaker 5 (01:09:20):
I will give you a one positive coming from the
land of Purple and Gold is how the community has
rallied behind their goalie, their soccer goalie, Mia Hammond.

Speaker 3 (01:09:29):
I want to I hope I'm saying that correctly. She's suffered.

Speaker 5 (01:09:32):
She's battling cancer right now, and there was a huge
fundraiser that has been very crowdfunded and the community has
rallied around her right now, and they started to go
fund me and very grassroots, and they are trying to
get her what she needs to continue battling this disease.

Speaker 3 (01:09:52):
So we're with you in that sense of a community.

Speaker 4 (01:09:56):
Two six.

Speaker 2 (01:09:56):
I'll get a couple more here before we wrap things up.
Two o six. I'm a bartender. We need these weekends.
As much as it annoys me, seeing Toronto fans everywhere
being slow and not making money annoys me more. This
is had a direct impact on me as an individual
and my entire restaurants. Final final one for you, I

(01:10:17):
remember the Comcast cam seeing your ugly faces is not necessary,
says the three six. So wow, not all of us
have ugly faces. Just it's nice to look at you know,
I got a d Chris, Chris, Kid's good to look at.
Ashley's okay to look at. Fan's a pretty man with
his gray hair. Outside of that, Yeah, you're probably right.
The Comcast cam was only during the Softy show.

Speaker 5 (01:10:39):
Yeah, I remember that, but it was it was like
up in a corner, You're gonna actually see our mugs
up up close in person.

Speaker 2 (01:10:46):
That was a goofy thing. It was a bad setup,
but it did. It was a It was a like
star making career launcher of a show, not for Softy.
But the original update person on that show is Diana Russini,
Oh right, And then it was Brooke Oles and dam
and then it was Abby Chin and then Aaron Mayofski

(01:11:08):
filled in every now and then as well.

Speaker 3 (01:11:10):
Seriously, that is a star baking that was.

Speaker 2 (01:11:13):
That's who did updates for Softy on Comcast Sports at Northwest.
So what who will be the next star to be
made by being on television?

Speaker 3 (01:11:22):
Hey, give it a mame.

Speaker 5 (01:11:23):
If this is a starmaking organization, give me that YouTube channel.

Speaker 2 (01:11:26):
There you go. I'll go for it again. I want
no part of it, but I get no say. The
good news is they've been telling us that for you.
How long we have been the studio. You've been here
for two years, right, two and a half. Two and
a half years. We've been in the studio for about
four I think now these little cameras have been sitting
there forever.

Speaker 3 (01:11:43):
We'll just we'll do it when we see it.

Speaker 2 (01:11:45):
I can hold my breath. But yeah, like you could
be the next superstar. Okay, you need to work on
Softy show though. Oh, because he's the one that launched
all those folks.

Speaker 3 (01:11:55):
Wow, that's a double.

Speaker 2 (01:11:56):
Thanks him for that. On occasion, I'll have to ask him.
We'll check in with the soft one. He's at Cheeney
Stadium with Dick coming up next. All Right, our winner
is Jim Simon and the Mariner tickets for tonight's game.
Do we do we get confirmation? Did you check his

(01:12:17):
visa or his passport? Yess?

Speaker 5 (01:12:19):
Is he murder and he's wearing Mariners things and also
said he has never won anything on a radio station.
So congratulations, Jim. We're excited for you.

Speaker 2 (01:12:28):
We are. Softy is excited for him, aren't you, Softy?

Speaker 4 (01:12:31):
Does he have a real id. Can he fly?

Speaker 2 (01:12:33):
He can't fly. He can go to a Marina game though,
that's all he can do. So we're gonna make sure
you take his staking care of this.

Speaker 4 (01:12:37):
So where where's this guy from?

Speaker 12 (01:12:38):
That?

Speaker 8 (01:12:38):
He that that one?

Speaker 3 (01:12:40):
Do we know the two o six?

Speaker 14 (01:12:43):
Well, do we have the city yet that he's front? Well,
but no, but that's I know people that live in
New York City with two o six phones.

Speaker 3 (01:12:48):
I was saying, did you calm at your butt down?
He is within the area, he can.

Speaker 4 (01:12:56):
Passport.

Speaker 2 (01:12:56):
What would have worried me there, though, is if Jess
would have said he's from the six four, because that
is Canada. By the way, I told my Betty Joe
with you, I mentioned this if you're looking for Mother's
Day plans the track on Sunday at Emerald Downs Modnesday weekend,
they got prize drawings each hour all day long. In fact,
all kinds of prizes and Mom gets taken care of. You'll,

(01:13:17):
I'll love this, softie. I think we're going out to
Animal Downs on Sunday. I asked my wife, what do
you want to do? She goes, let's go to the track.
Let's go the races. Now, I will say this about
missus Farnas.

Speaker 4 (01:13:27):
She's a degenerate gambler.

Speaker 2 (01:13:29):
Oh no, sorry, that was exactly what I was gonna say.
Although she I mean, she likes slot machines for the most.

Speaker 4 (01:13:35):
Part, but the wives love the slot.

Speaker 2 (01:13:38):
She's a big she. But she like if I say, hey,
right up to still call me casino, like you know,
me and a couple buddies, okay, and like she wants
to go like she never wants to go and do
anything with like the guys. Right, it's like, oh, that's
a whole different world. But she goes, Yeah, i'schol the
horse races like all right, emimeral downs it is, here
we go, so here you go on. I love it.

Speaker 4 (01:13:55):
I love it.

Speaker 14 (01:13:56):
By the way, you know, Seattle's getting a new area
code soon. You guys are wear that what is it
like five five six four? Yeah, five six four a month.
I guess they're they're they're running out of two oh
six numbers, by the way, So it won't it won't
impact you if you've already got a two o six
number like I do.

Speaker 4 (01:14:11):
You've got a two five three, is that right?

Speaker 2 (01:14:13):
No, I've got a three six Oh got three six?

Speaker 8 (01:14:15):
Oh?

Speaker 2 (01:14:16):
Because because when I switched from here to port from
Portland to here, they were already out of two o
six and they put me in like a three six
oh number.

Speaker 4 (01:14:23):
Well didn't you when you first moved up here?

Speaker 2 (01:14:25):
I had a five oh three?

Speaker 4 (01:14:26):
Yeah, a five oh three And that just bugged me forever.

Speaker 2 (01:14:29):
I know it did, and I'll be honest with you,
it bothered me too because it was Oregon. I like if,
and I said, I got to change that. So I
did change it a few.

Speaker 4 (01:14:36):
Years five six four. I remember when four two five
became a thing.

Speaker 2 (01:14:39):
That was like a big deal, like like like, wait
a second, where does he live in the four two five?
I got a dieng distance to call Bellevueix soh.

Speaker 4 (01:14:47):
Two five three four two five two o six and
five six four?

Speaker 2 (01:14:50):
Way too minute?

Speaker 4 (01:14:51):
No man, crazy, hard to remember.

Speaker 2 (01:14:54):
It's urban sprawl, my friend, it's urban sprawl.

Speaker 14 (01:14:56):
So remember back in the day, growing up, when you
would just give your phone number seven numbers?

Speaker 2 (01:15:01):
Yeah, oh yeah, that was it right. I'm I'm old
enough to remember, like my first phone number instead of
saying to eight, it was at water three nine something
like that. It was weird.

Speaker 3 (01:15:10):
My mom used to do that. You'd say kr nine.

Speaker 2 (01:15:13):
Yeah, and it was it was the first letters because
well it was we all had the dial up or.

Speaker 4 (01:15:16):
Like back in the day.

Speaker 14 (01:15:19):
Well, I mean my number growing up and it's it's
gone now. I don't know who's got it. If you
guys want to try calling it, give a call it
seven four seven nine nine seven two. So it was
first it was two o six. I think it became
four two five seven four seven nine nine seven.

Speaker 8 (01:15:32):
What if that? What if?

Speaker 2 (01:15:33):
That poor person has people sometimes going is this Dave
is date? I went for Dave Maller, Dave Muller.

Speaker 4 (01:15:38):
See what happens? I mean, I'd say call it live
on the air, But you can't do that.

Speaker 2 (01:15:42):
You can't do it anymore.

Speaker 4 (01:15:42):
Those days are over.

Speaker 3 (01:15:43):
Yeah, that's not legal.

Speaker 14 (01:15:45):
You can't put them on the air without their knowledge.
Which is ridiculous that we're calling first. The less people know.

Speaker 2 (01:15:49):
The wa wait time out, Hang on a second, I
got a question for you then.

Speaker 4 (01:15:53):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (01:15:54):
So when I'm listening to these morning shows on music
stations and they're doing these callbacks to people on a
first date or second date? Are you telling me? Are
you telling me? Are you telling me? Santa Claus? Those
things may not be real?

Speaker 14 (01:16:06):
Oh you could, you could, you could tape it off
the ear and then let them know, you know, or
recording do you want to keep going?

Speaker 4 (01:16:12):
But like the like the Jubile show when they're doing.

Speaker 2 (01:16:15):
The yeah let's get I'm taking you guys are full
of it? Man, what's going on?

Speaker 4 (01:16:20):
Guys?

Speaker 8 (01:16:21):
Yeah?

Speaker 14 (01:16:21):
So there, I think people's privacy at our whim, whatever
the hell we want, Why should they have a say
in the mat? And now the iPhones have this recording button.
Now you guys know about that. Well, you can take
conversations on your iPhone.

Speaker 3 (01:16:34):
But we live in a two party state, so they
have to have consent.

Speaker 4 (01:16:37):
You didn't know that?

Speaker 8 (01:16:38):
Ye?

Speaker 2 (01:16:39):
First of all?

Speaker 8 (01:16:40):
You know me?

Speaker 2 (01:16:40):
How often do I actually answer it?

Speaker 6 (01:16:42):
Record?

Speaker 14 (01:16:42):
So let's say let's say you're on the way to
the studio to record a big time interview and you're
running late to literally call the person on your phone,
record the interview over the phone, and then get to
the radio station and then replace your phone quality questions
with studio quality questions.

Speaker 4 (01:16:55):
But keep the answer.

Speaker 2 (01:16:56):
Well, first of all, I would not just wait for
me when.

Speaker 4 (01:16:58):
You hit the button, says called not being recorded?

Speaker 2 (01:17:01):
Oh right, yeah, And they're like, what I just.

Speaker 3 (01:17:06):
On a zoom call and you hear.

Speaker 2 (01:17:08):
You know me, I don't like talking on the phone,
So I just I just I don't really either to
be on You know what's funny. I'm gonna actually just
I'll tell you something. This will make just feel better.

Speaker 3 (01:17:15):
Okay.

Speaker 2 (01:17:16):
So when Softy calls me or I call him, usually
it's I don't mind those calls because both of us
are the same. It's like what to get off. It's
like it's like thirty seconds, boom boom moon, thanks for coming,
We're off.

Speaker 4 (01:17:26):
Yeah done.

Speaker 2 (01:17:27):
Other people that call they want to have a conversation.
I don't want to talk on the phone like I
have people like you know what, I'll tell you when
I really don't want to talk on the phone when
I get off the radio, right, what about you're done? Yeah,
I'm done talking talking for two hours.

Speaker 4 (01:17:39):
You want to go home and zip it?

Speaker 8 (01:17:40):
Yeah?

Speaker 13 (01:17:41):
Go on?

Speaker 6 (01:17:41):
Man?

Speaker 2 (01:17:41):
And then the wife's like, hey, what's going on? On
and on, I'm like, don't talk to me. No, actually,
I actually wish you would talk to me more.

Speaker 4 (01:17:49):
I get I get into a habit, and I have
gotten into a habit.

Speaker 14 (01:17:52):
Every morning of calling my wife, you know, she'll get
in the car and she'll leave for a work before
I do, so I'll give her a buzz that's traffic.
How are you, what's going on on? How's your day?
Nice conversation. So I figure that's enough.

Speaker 2 (01:18:04):
Well, then that's it for the day. It's nothing. Quote.

Speaker 14 (01:18:09):
We have our bracket Friday. By the way, what is
it all, Brack David Dan. But it's the most annoying
fan base. It's basically the fan bases that we, meaning myself,
Dick and Jackson hate the most. Give me some diners
are on the list, the Cougars, you're on the list, Gonzaga?
Would you would you put Gonzaga in there? Yes, as
an annoying fan base? Boston, Toronto, Oregon, the Portland Timbers,

(01:18:33):
the Oregon Ducks. And then we have a play in
vote happening on Twitter right now. The eighth seed is
the Cowboys versus the Yankees to face the Niners.

Speaker 4 (01:18:41):
Of the first.

Speaker 2 (01:18:41):
First of all, Cowboys that you do correct answer? Second
of all, we's Washington on that list. We're the Husky
fan base.

Speaker 4 (01:18:47):
Is that we meaning softy, Dick and Jackson hate the most?
Because not hear that part of the contest.

Speaker 2 (01:18:52):
No, I don't think that's I think you guys need
expand your little contest.

Speaker 14 (01:18:55):
Okay, well, so then if you put you U versus Gonzaga,
we'd replace Wazoo with you dub you versus Gonzaga for
the most annoying fan base of the.

Speaker 2 (01:19:03):
Fan I'm not sure who I'd vote for there. It'd
be tough for you, right, tough for you, there's no
That's what I.

Speaker 4 (01:19:08):
Appreciated about you, though.

Speaker 14 (01:19:10):
You hate Gonzaga because you're supposed to, so congratulations on
being a normal human being. Although Jessemin's ridiculous Boston Knixt
thing has shot a fag down a couple.

Speaker 2 (01:19:20):
Of pigs, that's all right, Well listen, I'm not as
salty with him anymore. Well, then, while you will be
in about seven minutes, goodbye, I see you
