Speaker 1 (00:00):
Okay, welcome in here. How are we?
Speaker 2 (00:02):
It is an e q C note Thursday. What does
that mean? I mean if you have a chance to
one hundred dollars every hour, sometimes two hundred dollars or
more if somebody doesn't call in. It's a very simple process,
but I need to explain it one more time. So
here we go. You text your first and last name
to four nine four five one. When you do so,
(00:22):
first and last name to four nine four five one,
text where you're texting from as well as an example.
We use this last week Anderson Hurst, Inner Bay. That's
where he's roughly at right now. Yeah, Jessamin McIntyre, Edmunds done,
that's where she rules the world up there, and Edmunds
Washington very psychon four nine four five one, first and
last name and that. Then you listen at the top
(00:44):
of the next hour, and if we hear, if you
hear your name called, you call us within five minutes
two O six two eight six ninety five ninety five
two O six two eight six ninety five ninety five.
You have to call in to win. Last week we
had someone that called in like twenty minutes late. That
doesn't work. You have five minutes. If you know the person,
(01:05):
maybe text them, maybe the body of a drink or
something along the way.
Speaker 3 (01:08):
Andrews, name our name, and it is three hundred dollars.
By the way, it is three We got the full rollover,
Yes we did, because two hours the rollover correct. Vernon
Yarnell from Bellevue.
Speaker 1 (01:20):
Vernon Yarnell, Bellevue, got three hundred bucks on the line.
Let's go do it, Vernon.
Speaker 2 (01:27):
Based on the clock, which is John lenn pointed out
the other day, I'm always just bang on with the clock.
Speaker 1 (01:32):
I'm just nailed with it, especially when Just is in here.
Speaker 2 (01:35):
We will we will break about the time that Vernon
has to call in. Okay, yeah, so five minutes from now,
say the guy's name again.
Speaker 1 (01:44):
Vernon Yarnell from Bellevue.
Speaker 2 (01:46):
Vernon Yarnell, Bellevue where they never cheated in high school football.
Two oh six two eight six ninety five ninety five
two oh six two eight six ninety five ninety five,
Vernon Yarnell, you better call within five minutes. We know
there's a little bit of a delay because if you're
listening on the iHeartRadio app and have this preset, there's
like a ninety five second.
Speaker 1 (02:05):
That's why we give you five minutes, so we give you.
Speaker 2 (02:07):
Plenty of time to call in Vernon Yarnell two O
six two eight six ninety five ninety five and you'll
have a chance to win three hundred dollars again. If
you know Vernon, tell him to call. In the meantime,
text your first and last name to four nine four
or five to one. How are we doing today, ladies
and gentlemen? All right, when's that? What's he gonna with us?
One twenty and Corbyn's at two? Okay, I'm gonna make
(02:31):
this short and sweet today with the baseball team. Okay,
I'm not going to lose my mind like Softy Softy
Mike lost it yesterday, just flat out lost it. We'll
play some of that for cross talk when he comes
back in. Talked about not having relations with his wife
because he's so upset other things are going on.
Speaker 1 (02:52):
It was it was.
Speaker 4 (02:54):
I'm really glad.
Speaker 1 (02:55):
I'm sure she was really appreciative of that.
Speaker 2 (02:57):
But but I get it because he's passionate, like a
lot of people are, the passionate about's going on. And
they came on the air right after the game ended
yesterday and they lost and they got swept by the
Arizona Diamondbacks. I thought to myself, boy, what a great
time to start a postcast show and do a do
a radio, do a podcast every night following every Marner's game.
(03:17):
But that's the world that Chris Crawford and Anderson Hurst
lived in now. But I was thinking about this, give
me one.
Speaker 1 (03:24):
Sec all the sex I had. Second, I had a
little dry spot there in the throat the.
Speaker 2 (03:33):
Years ago, years ago, we did a thing I was
telling I was telling new guy Mark about this. Years ago,
Puck and I did a thing called refuse to talk
update called let's go all right? So that means only
one hundred dollars to be given away next hour. Yes,
still texting your first and last name. Hundred bucks is
(03:53):
better than no bucks, right, four four one first last name.
We were texting from it, whe hundred bucks. Make sure
you tune in at two o'clock. If you text your
name in, you don't tune in it two o'clock. Can't
win a good job at Vernon.
Speaker 1 (04:04):
He used to talk.
Speaker 2 (04:05):
Yeah, years ago they had I don't know if you
were here, just when they had the refuse no refuse
to lose was like in a night with one or
something was that or maybe I.
Speaker 4 (04:13):
Was across the street when you guys did refuse to talk.
Speaker 1 (04:15):
Yeah, so.
Speaker 2 (04:18):
We did refuse to talk. I'm not we're not doing
that necessarily, but there was a reason we did it,
and I want to explain why instead of just sitting
here and bashing the baseball team today, which.
Speaker 1 (04:28):
Is I get to do every night. Yeah, you fun.
Speaker 2 (04:30):
Yeah, you were on the phone when we were talking
to Vernon. We were saying this good timing for you
guys to start the podcast. Yeah, we have a terrible
record since we started. I think it's I think it
is too we.
Speaker 4 (04:40):
Need Caitlin Carr, but we do.
Speaker 2 (04:41):
We do a daily radio show, and on a daily
radio show, and there's one hundred and sixtywo baseball games,
it's easy to go up and down. We've talked about
this before because Baseball Guy doesn't like you to, you know,
react to games on a nightly basis, even though my
two baseball guys do that, and they do it very
well on the Lockdown postcast every night every afternoon, but
at some point it becomes exhausting and tiring. I grew
(05:05):
up a Mariners fan. I grew up a Mariners fan
since day one of the franchise. I remember listening to
the very first game on the radio with Dave Kneehouse
and Ken Wilson. I remember that vividly. I've always been
a Mariners fan. I don't like it when my team
struggles or isn't good. And for forty nine years, with
(05:27):
just what five six exceptions, they've really struggled.
Speaker 1 (05:30):
They haven't been the playoffs. So it's frustrating.
Speaker 2 (05:34):
And the initial thought like, and you know SOFTI indict
had to come on yesterday and the game ended literally
as they were going on the air. Right as they're
going on the air, they a game ended in which
a guy that you gave away for nothing hits a
grand Slam to beat you. Oh, by the way, Brian
Wu has struggled recently badly, But you if it was me,
(05:59):
I probably I would have lost my mind. Not quite
to that same level, but I probably lost my mind
as well. But I've had twenty four hours and here's
here's my quick thought on that. Well, still we'll always
talk whatever big sporting that's going on, or baseball and Mariners,
what have you. But rest assured, like I just can't
do it. I cannot do it every day, and I apologize.
(06:21):
If you guys want me to come on here and
go bananas, it might happen here and there. I just
want them to be better. I want them to win.
I'd like them to go to the playoffs. I'd like
my kids to experience a playoff Mariner's run. I'd love
that to happen. I've talked about it before. My daughter
is a massive She is the exact demo they want.
She's about Andrew's age. YEP, has a good job, her
(06:43):
boyfriend has a really good job. They have disposable income,
they do well. They're Mariner fans. You know, they just
bought a house. They'll probably since they're cable cutters and
that's what you guys do as young people now. But
they'll have, they have, they'll stream the Mariners games, they'll
do all that. They're exactly who you want and I
want them to enjoy that. And and it's hard. It's
(07:05):
just it's hard. So we're not going to refuse to talk,
but I'm gonna refuse to rant every day.
Speaker 1 (07:10):
I can't do it. I'm exhausted by it. It just now.
Speaker 2 (07:12):
I will tune into the postcast if I need to
get a little bit of pissed off off me, because
you guys are really good.
Speaker 1 (07:18):
At that that.
Speaker 2 (07:20):
Although I I think I didn't listen to yesterday as
I listened to one the day before after the game
two lost in the series.
Speaker 1 (07:26):
This is how it started, Jess. Oh, yeah, huge side.
Speaker 3 (07:32):
I've learned that from Kevin Choko, huge sigh and a
lot of Chris Copp Crawford shaking his head.
Speaker 1 (07:39):
And just and that.
Speaker 2 (07:41):
But that's what it is, and that's kind of how
I feel. They come home and this is how goofy
and schizophrenic this team is. They'll probably come home against
better teams and win. I say probably because I'm holding
out hope. But it's if you're frustrated by this team,
if you're just kind beyond it, I get it. We're
(08:02):
all there. We're not going to refuse to talk, but
we're gonna refuse to runt every day. I can't do it.
I just can't do it. That being said, we're gonna
talk baseball. You know, Sarah's coming up. Interesting story that
he was a part of, and it was the crazy
thing was the headline of the story. And you guys
will find this interesting. He wrote, with two other writers.
(08:22):
It was let me get it, I just roll scroll
by it real fast. mL Trade Deadline m WILB Trade
Deadline Urgency Index one.
Speaker 1 (08:28):
Who needs what?
Speaker 2 (08:29):
Who needs it the most? I'm not going to tell
you what was said in that article, but we'll mention
our baseball team. We'll talk to Eno sarahs from The
Athletic All things Baseball coming up.
Speaker 5 (08:36):
Next, It's time for our weekly visit with Eno. Sarah
so The Athletic. The best baseball insight you'll get from
a nerd with big league air. He likes picks of grips,
food and beer. Well, always dreaming up the next big

Speaker 1 (09:09):
Now with Ian, here's Zeno.
Speaker 6 (09:12):
You know.
Speaker 1 (09:12):
Sarahs joins us On Thursday. We gave Eno the week off.
Speaker 2 (09:15):
Last week we were doing OTAs with football out at
Seahawks HQ headquarters, the Virginia Mason Athletics Center. Ino was
in a baseball game. I believe with your kids last
last Thursday, is that right?
Speaker 7 (09:28):
Yeah, I played hooky. I took him out of the
last day of school and we went to see baseball
game day.
Speaker 8 (09:34):
Baseball game was great.
Speaker 1 (09:35):
That's awesome.
Speaker 7 (09:35):
That of the year.
Speaker 2 (09:36):
God, that is you are father of the year. You know,
my God, that is awesome.
Speaker 4 (09:41):
So good.
Speaker 7 (09:42):
And you had we had a moment where my wife
was like, oh, I don't I don't know about taking
them out of school, and then she realized it's the
last day of school and they're just watching movies all day.
Speaker 8 (09:50):
Anyway.
Speaker 2 (09:52):
Yeah, I was gonna say, my daughter's a fifth grade teacher.
And I'll tell you who who would not care if
they missed the last day of school would be the teacher.
They'd be like, that's fine because at this point in time,
every teacher in America is done, like we're done, like
they are. I'm sure you have I'm sure your kids
are great, but not every kid is, and you're probably like, Okay,
(10:12):
we're done.
Speaker 9 (10:13):
We're good.
Speaker 2 (10:13):
So that's awesome, man. I was just talking about that
actually with about my kids. My daughter, I mentioned she's
a school teacher. My son just turned twenty three, yesterday,
and you know, both Mariner fans, my daughter though more
so she's she's a big Mariners fan. And it's so
frustrating up here at times, you know, it's just like
it feels like groundhog Day. Here we go over and
over and over again. I want to get into some
(10:35):
some thoughts about the story you put together with Tim
Britton and Aaron Gleman. I believe it is MLB Trade
Deadline Urgency Index one point zero. Who needs what, who
needs it most will get to what the Mariners need
as far as what that article said in the second.
But how concerned should Mariner fans be with our team?
Speaker 8 (10:53):
That is now?
Speaker 2 (10:55):
Look, they're tied with the Angels. My god, I just
realized that they're tied with.
Speaker 3 (10:59):
The Angels nine of ten, fourteen of nineteen.
Speaker 2 (11:04):
Yeah, and are now four games out of first place,
have lost a three and a half game lead.
Speaker 1 (11:09):
You know, how concerned should we be up here?
Speaker 7 (11:14):
The causer concern for me is the bottom of the lineup,
which looked like it had been longer than it was
in the past, has kind of disappeared a little bit.
They're looking at the last month of statistics. You know,
Randy's been all right, JP's in good, Calvin great who
he has been time. It's been the sort of six
(11:37):
seven eighty nine of the lineup. None of them have
been above average with the stick and just real falloffs
from from Polanco and Dylan Moore and Governed.
Speaker 8 (11:49):
Has not really gotten going.
Speaker 7 (11:50):
So it's you know, it's the bottom of the lineup
that's in trouble. And even calling up Cole Young hasn't
been that spark yet, so.
Speaker 8 (12:00):
You know, I think that they do need it bad.
Speaker 7 (12:02):
The good news is that I think Kirby right a ship,
and he looks like he's back, and Logan Gilbert's around
the corner. So even with the Bryce Miller bad news,
I feel like the pitching is going to right itself.
It's back to the old story of what does the
bottom of the lineup look like and how can we
improve that. I want to get back to the lineup
(12:22):
in a second. Let me go back to pitching because
you brought it up. You know, we talked about Kirby
and the things you were looking for. In his first
couple of starts, we saw most of those command was off,
but then all of a sudden, he looks like George Kirby.
So we're gonna go ahead and assume what you said,
you saw the velocity, saw all those things.
Speaker 1 (12:35):
Boom.
Speaker 2 (12:36):
Okay, Kirby could be back, should be back. Gilbert comes
back on Tuesday, Andrews, when's Gilbert?
Speaker 1 (12:42):
When next week?
Speaker 2 (12:43):
Yeah, so that's good. How much grace do we give them,
because you know, the pitching staff has been so decimated
by injuries this year, the starting staff specifically.
Speaker 8 (12:55):
Yeah, it's a weird season for them. Right.
Speaker 7 (12:57):
Usually it's the pitching is there and the hitting is there,
and this year that the hitting started out and the
pitching disappeared just due to injury. The reality is today's
game is just that you're gonna deal with injury.
Speaker 8 (13:09):
It's not a question of if, it's a question of when, and.
Speaker 7 (13:12):
So you just have to hope that this was the
when and that now the the the rest of the
season will be better for them.
Speaker 8 (13:21):
Pitching wise. I am a big fan of Logan Evans.
Speaker 7 (13:25):
Actually, I think he's got a big league slider, and
I think he's figured out how to kind of move
things around that slider. I don't think he necessarily has
the upside of the Kirby and Gilbert, but I think
he can be a good number five.
Speaker 8 (13:41):
He can be a part of the solution going forward.
Speaker 7 (13:44):
So I think that there's still a pitching factory to
some degree and that they'll be fine pitching wise.
Speaker 2 (13:51):
Do you like him better than than Emerson Hancock is
a five if all things or if the four guys
are healthy, I.
Speaker 8 (13:58):
Think I kind of do.
Speaker 7 (14:00):
I know that the strikeout rate is not very high
for him, but my stuff numbers say his breaking balls
are basically better secondaries than anything that Emerson Hancocks throws.
And you know, his fastballs aren't great, neither are Emerson's,
but the cutter and the sinker around the gaverage for
(14:21):
Logan Evans and then he's just got this really wide mix.
He throws five six. He throws six pitches ten percent
of the time, and that just means that, you know,
he's got out pitches and he's got the surprise factor.
Speaker 8 (14:34):
Hitters just don't really know what's coming if he's going
to throw six pitches at them.
Speaker 2 (14:39):
Yeah, that's an interesting you know, Sarah joining us Churtsy,
Georgetown Brewing from the Athletic the Athletic dot Com. The
outpitch is something I always go back to when Jared
Washburn was here if you were that name years ago,
but I remember the criticism always of him was that
like he had a good stuff, he just couldn't get
somebody out like he like it was just like that.
That was the kind of the little miss Sing element
(15:00):
that It's weird, you know how things kind of stick
with you over the years. Like I'm not a big
numbers guy, and Andrews and you guys understand that more
than I do. But I remember the outpitch, and if
a guy has an outpitch, that's like, that's awesome, right,
Like like you look at Moonyal's he's got two of them,
a slider aud a fastball, right like you like that
are just complete, like you can fool guys. So if
a guy has that, maybe his velocity isn't the same
(15:22):
as some of those other guys, but that's big for
a guy like Logan Evans Seah.
Speaker 8 (15:26):
I think it's a necessary requisite.
Speaker 7 (15:28):
You need to have the outpitch because you can have
all the pitches in the world, but if they just
get foul balls or you know, like yeah, if you
know they're just fouling them off, then you're just gonna
have these really long at bats, you can't finish them
off with uh. With Evans, I believe that those breaking
balls are outpitches that he can finish. He can finish
somebody off if he can get that count leverage. And
(15:49):
the way you get the count leverage is you give
him a cutter when you thought they were going a thinker,
so you can use that element of surprise. It's just
hard to ride that element of surprise all the way
to a strikeout, which is ultimately you know the picture goal.
Speaker 2 (16:00):
I'm having bad PTSD now as you're saying that about
a guy that doesn't have an outpitch and somebody keeps
fouling it off. Visions of Naylor and Arizona on Tuesday
are dancing through my head with Vargas follot off, fallot off,
two strikes, fall it off, fallot off, two strikes, and
then a ball.
Speaker 7 (16:15):
Outpitch is that thinker, unfortunately, and having the outpitch be
the thinker.
Speaker 8 (16:20):
Tinkers do not produce with the same way.
Speaker 7 (16:23):
So he keeps going back to that thinker and it
can get ground balls and fileballs, but it doesn't produce
with He's one of the hardest ones because it looks
really nasty. And the vila looks great, but it doesn't.
It just doesn't produce with the same way you need.
Speaker 8 (16:39):
Uh.
Speaker 1 (16:40):
The urgency index.
Speaker 2 (16:41):
God, I love indexes like you know what no I do,
because it's the athletic is the king of I just
thought about our buddy Mike Sandel at Seahawks the other
day from the Athletic. He's got his quarterback index right,
and the tears and all that. I love that. I
got to disagree with you guys though, because you had
the first assaulnment of the urgency index. I thought Seattle
should have been in all three categories, whether it be position,
starting and anner relief pitching. But I think you you
(17:04):
did starters. They weren't on that list for you. But
the one of your your other guys had the relief
pitching the bullpen in there. Why is that do you think?
Speaker 8 (17:16):
I mean?
Speaker 7 (17:16):
They mentioned in the eighth inning, and I guess that's
what we've been talking about a little bit with Vargas.
You know, is there a bat misser that that.
Speaker 8 (17:26):
Can really pair up with Munos?
Speaker 7 (17:28):
I think it's Brash, honestly, h And you know, I
think that Brash's stuff took a little second to come back.
But I think it's there. I like spire, I think
I think they've got enough. I'm surprised that we didn't
put the Mariners in the bat one.
Speaker 8 (17:44):
That's that's where I would have had it, like.
Speaker 7 (17:47):
And the nice thing about it, to some extent for
the Mariners is that they can be kind of flexible
bat wise as what position it is. You know, it's
not like they don't have they have a position where like, oh,
you can't upgrade there.
Speaker 3 (18:00):
I mean saying, you have so many places that you
can improve it doesn't matter what position they are, right, Yeah.
Speaker 7 (18:10):
That's a way of putting it. But but you could
put a guy in the outfield, you can put a
guy in the infield. You could you could even get
a DH I feel like, and improve this team. So
they're out there, I'm sure they're having these conversations any
any sort of conversation about improving their team offensively with
(18:33):
the knowledge that you know, it would be probably be
good if that player that they pick up has you know,
a significant amount of time playing in their stadium and
knows a little bit of something about it.
Speaker 2 (18:43):
We've we've discussed it up here before, and you mentioned
Nicole Young, he gets called up.
Speaker 1 (18:48):
He's your second basement.
Speaker 2 (18:49):
You get Williamson at third, two young guys there, and
obviously the production hasn't been there at the bottom of
the lineup. Would there be any reason to bring up
Harry Ford and just be done with Mitch Garver or
would you would you still trust to Mitch garb as
a backup catcher sometimes at DH.
Speaker 7 (19:06):
And Garber has this weird thing for a while where
he was alternating.
Speaker 8 (19:09):
Good years and bad years, and so I've been.
Speaker 7 (19:12):
Kind of hoping that this would be a good year,
you know, but that kind of mass doesn't actually work.
And you know what you're seeing from Garbor right now
is you know, the worst contact rights of his career,
you know, the worst batted ball quality of his career,
the worst bad speed.
Speaker 8 (19:34):
It doesn't look very good.
Speaker 7 (19:35):
And I think that, you know, they have to be
thinking internally as well as externally, so that is obviously
something that's on the record, I mean, and they are playing.
Speaker 1 (19:44):
Cal rally as hard, yes, yes, So.
Speaker 7 (19:49):
If Harry Ford can come up and be decent with
a bat, then maybe they can rest cow Because one
thing I've also seen in the numbers too, is that
Patcher's suffer more in the postseason than any other position.
They are the worst offensive like even relative to what
they do during the regular season, they are worse offensively,
(20:09):
and that's because they've been couching all year.
Speaker 8 (20:12):
Yeah, and so.
Speaker 7 (20:14):
If you want cal Rally to hit you some home
runs in the postseason, I think you want to rest
them a little bit more than they've been resting. So
I would consider calling or Perricks for I think it's
all hands on deck at this point. I mean, the
division is there for the taking. And I know that
maybe the Cole Young thing doesn't work out, maybe Bliss
comes back, whatever it is, maybe they get a trade,
but it's worth trying these things, and so I would
(20:37):
advocate for that.
Speaker 2 (20:38):
I'm trying to be positive today and I'm just thinking
to myself, God, are we waiting for Ryan Bliss to
come back? Is that we can't be doing that? But
that's I mean, it might be a better option right now.
And you're talking about the postseason. You know, this team's
been in the postseason five times in forty nine years, buddy.
Speaker 7 (20:53):
Like, come on, you know, worry about that when you
get better, I guess exactly.
Speaker 2 (20:59):
You know, Sarah's Party by Georgetown Brewing George saun Berry
Brewery as well. Thirsty for something local, crispin refreshing hit
over to my good friends at Georgetown bring George stambera
dot com for the top list in the tap room
right now, all right, before I let you go. I
don't know how much you get into this. There has
been criticism in this market. I think it just comes
with the territory of the position of the manager of
(21:20):
Dan Wilson and whether it's how he manages the bullpen.
You know, what does Munno's She send him back out
for another inning if he has like an eight pitch
ninth INNINGO next, whatever it might be. There's been a
lot of different things, a lot of variances. I don't
know how much you do that. I know you're a
lot of a numbers guy, but do you ever watch
it Dan Wilson to go hmm. It's interesting. They Scott
fired Scott's service. They brought in a guy with no
managerial experience, and it looks like it's not working right now.
Speaker 7 (21:47):
I mean, if I have a controversial opinion is that
managers don't matter that much.
Speaker 1 (21:53):
Good, that's good.
Speaker 7 (21:56):
I mean, I just I feel like, you know, in
terms of strategy, when it comes to the lineup, when
it comes to how long starters are in, relievers, which
relievers are available, A lot of that's done between the
manager and the front office in tandem, and so you know,
changing managers, it's the front office is still making a
(22:18):
lot of the decisions about these things. And I think
in the modern baseball it's true for almost every baseball
team that to some extent the lineup is a you know,
cohesive decision between the front office and the managers, not
just the manager writing them down, so that most of
the decisions you see play out are a results of
organizational decisions and not just the manager. I think the
(22:39):
manager's most important thing is managing personalities, interacting with the media,
explaining the decisions of the front office, and generally making
players feel like they're being communicated with. So those are
a lot of those things we can't see from the outside.
If the media is turning on and then you know
(23:00):
that that does speak to maybe his interactions with the media.
But in terms of decisions on the field, I think
what happens a lot of times is this is an
emotional thing when when we we remember things that have
an emotional attachment.
Speaker 8 (23:15):
We might remember them better. This is my my psychology
undergrad degree coming out.
Speaker 7 (23:21):
When you when you see him make a decision and
then it doesn't work out, you remember it better than
the decisions that did work out. Yeah, And so I
think that sometimes we can ascribe more meaning to certain
decisions than actually we're in there.
Speaker 8 (23:39):
So I don't. I don't. I haven't seen any analysis
that suggests that he's doing something that he shouldn't be doing.
Speaker 7 (23:46):
And one thing I can see that the Mariners are
tense in reliever innings pitched. You know, in past years
they've gotten more out of their starters.
Speaker 8 (23:56):
But A the starts of get injured. Uh, and B.
Speaker 7 (24:01):
If he is turning to the bullpen and the relievers
aren't as good, is that his fault returning to the bullpen?
Or is it the team's fault for not having quite
the same bullpen they've had in the past.
Speaker 2 (24:12):
I'm gonna go shared bird. I'm gonna check with I'll
check with ladder on that.
Speaker 8 (24:16):
Uh.
Speaker 1 (24:16):
I'll go with the ladder. And the general hasn't been
as good if they have been injured.
Speaker 2 (24:21):
No, it's been it's been a struggle and then we
saw WU struggle the last couple outings.
Speaker 1 (24:24):
So all right on that, on that upbeat note.
Speaker 2 (24:27):
Tell us about your podcast, Rates and Barrels and uh
got great stuff at the Athletic dot Com as well.
Speaker 7 (24:33):
Yeah, he got rays and Meryl Daily and we've got
former amazing leader Jed Lowry tever May helping us understand
the hitting side. I'm kind of like the the dorky
analyst guy and we play out how to pitch the
guys and stuff like that. Have a piece today about
Sandy all Concert coming back. He might be the big
impact arm that's available at the trade deadline if that
(24:56):
is the way that the team wants to go. Uh,
and there's been a little bit of hope in his
and what he's done. I did a piece Ken, and
tomorrow a piece comes up about the Major League ball
It is different.
Speaker 8 (25:08):
Again this year.
Speaker 1 (25:10):
Interesting. We like that.
Speaker 2 (25:11):
Well, that's why we have a thing called Spins and
Barrels and fun stuff like that.

Speaker 6 (26:47):
Like I really like a team from the southeast being good.
That's why I'm going for Florida and also in somewhere Florida.
Speaker 1 (26:56):
I've never heard of that team.
Speaker 4 (26:58):
Who is it the Florida pit?
Speaker 1 (27:00):
Is there a w in that spell that for me?
Speaker 4 (27:02):
How is that a Just explain to me? Yeah, exactly, Florida.
Speaker 1 (27:12):
How long were you home? Two weeks? You always have
a long island.
Speaker 2 (27:18):
You always have a long island accident and you you
go home. And it's like if I go north of
the border, I know what it sounds like when I
come back with that like look at you.
Speaker 4 (27:26):
That's one that that is one that never changes. That
one never changes. It's a tournament.
Speaker 1 (27:33):
Lord help me. Words. I never words.
Speaker 2 (27:36):
I never thought i'd say, where's Softy? I need him?
Where is Softy? I need them words? I never thought
I would say on this radio show, goodness me, game
four tonight, We've got it for you. Probably it must
win for Edmonton. Florida wins and they are almost as
sure to get their second straight. Stanley Cup. We've had
(27:58):
two really good games, both went to overtime. Then we
had just an absolute gong show in.
Speaker 1 (28:02):
The last game. Yeah, Florida kind of ran him out
of the building. Weird game.
Speaker 2 (28:08):
That last game was weird though, anders like Corey Perry
gets that goal to one goal game and like, okay,
here you go, and then Stewart Skinner turns into Stuart
Skinner and let's hit a couple sketchy.
Speaker 1 (28:18):
One starting again. Let's go.
Speaker 2 (28:20):
Well, they weren't going to picks, No, they weren't going
to picks. I mean, I'm all in the I'd go
to picks. I'll tell you this. He lets in a
couple early. The x T bird is gonna be on
the he'll be I'm sure. Chris Noblock, the Evanton coach, goes, hey,
I'm picks. Just you may just keep stretching, Just keep stretching,
because there's a damn good chance you're going back in.
(28:41):
They're not there without him, No, because Skinner was awful
in the first round.
Speaker 3 (28:45):
Yeah, I want to hear the Skinner chance come back
from the from La.
Speaker 8 (28:49):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (28:50):
I I I just all, I think we'll have a
good game tonight. I hope you have a good game,
just from the standpoint of the last one was only
entertaining because it turned into a gong show Ivan to
try to bully those guys and back and forth. But
man are they They are living rent free right now?
Is Florida in Edmonton's staff totally. They get away with
everything we do. Anything we get in trouble, we get
(29:11):
a penalty.
Speaker 1 (29:12):
Of course, that's what they're talking about in Florida. It's
just like we're right where we need to do.
Speaker 2 (29:16):
Florida knows how to play greasy better than anybody. Yes,
I like greasy.
Speaker 1 (29:20):
I do too.
Speaker 2 (29:21):
Greasy burger, greasy fries, greasy hockey.
Speaker 1 (29:25):
I like greasy. You guys like greasy? Yeah, greasy on
the morning.
Speaker 6 (29:30):
There's certain mornings like a good Sunday morning, greasy breakfast.
Speaker 2 (29:33):
You know what's not greasy? Just basically barbaric. By the way,
as we finished the by daily power Play product. Oh
by the way, I'm sorry, Davy power Play brought to

king County. We'll have another update. Corbyn Smithsken and Joints
have another update from Oakmont and in it and I
Jess was asking about, you know, how this course compared
to Saint Chambers Bay in terms of how tough it is?
No water right, so it's kind of a you know, it's,
as Bobby Casper told yesterday, kind of an Inland Links
(30:13):
style course. The difference is the rough is just heinous.
Can you imagine if we had rough like that for
the Mayor and Maple Valley Open, it would be like
a nine hour round for nine holes?
Speaker 1 (30:24):
No thank you, no thank you? And you're playing with Benton.
I am so how long will that take? Hey, you're
in charge, no comment, no comment, He's my partner.
Speaker 2 (30:33):
I gotta I just pace the play. I love you,
I love you, Mikey, I love you to death. That's

(30:57):
It is jj spawn still hold up as the clubhouse leader.
Four under him is four under through ten holes right now.
He's working on the front side. He started on the
back today. There's not a lot of red numbers. It is,
and it's gonna get harder as a week goes, just
like Bobby Casper said, So we'll keep an eye on that.
We'll have an update for you a while. That just
(31:17):
looks like no fun. Like that's why I told him yesterday,
like I don't know, I don't. I wouldn't a lot
of these courses i'd love to play on. I'd have
no desire to play well.
Speaker 3 (31:24):
And this is okay, like we're already late. But this
is why I like the Masters. It's the perfect like
in between of like difficult but also like not just
terrible golf.
Speaker 2 (31:34):
Sometimes if you miss a Faariwey by an inch, you're done.
Speaker 1 (31:38):
Yes, I'm done.
Speaker 4 (31:39):
Look, there's Jackson.
Speaker 2 (31:41):
Jackson Jackson hold out from the faraway. I think he
had a I think he had an eagle from the faraway. Yes, yes, Jackson,
he did. Jackson Jackson Reid also know as Patrick Reid. Oh,
Jackson's toppleganger.
Speaker 4 (31:56):
Jackson's better looking than him. I'll give him that.
Speaker 2 (31:59):
Wow, Okay, I think it's the beard. Okay, we gotta go,
we gotta break. Don't forget. EQC note Thursday, after we

Speaker 1 (32:47):
Here we go.
Speaker 2 (32:48):
Maners got swept in their three games series with the Diamondbacks,
losing yesterday five to last eight of nine four games
back of the Astros tied with the Angels. This is
the part that hurts. So if I'm being honest, good
time with the Angels. That can't happen, that just cannot,
flat out cannot happen.
Speaker 1 (33:04):
But there they are. Here we are.
Speaker 2 (33:06):
Pacers beat the Oklahoma City Thunder last night one sixteen
to one, oh seven to one.
Speaker 1 (33:10):
Lead the NBA Championship.
Speaker 2 (33:11):
Let's go Indiana Stanley Cup Finals tonight right here on
nine three point three KJFM, Game four five pm. And
your home for the NHL. You're home for the Kraken.
It is game for Panthers leading Edmonton two games to
one as well Anderson Hurst. Before we get to the
great Corbyn Smith from Emerald City Spectrum locked on Seahawks.
(33:31):
Before we get to that, I need to name someone
wants to win a hundred bucks.
Speaker 3 (33:35):
His name is Corey Adams in Graham, in Graham Graham,
so not Capelison, just Graham, just Graham, not the hyphen
Graham Graham. Name again, Corey Adams.
Speaker 2 (33:49):
Corey Adams from Graham probably knows by my friends the
Helles down there, the Helly family. All right, Corey Adams
from Graham. Simers starts now two O six, two eight
six ninety five. Here's how it works. You have to
call in. You have five minutes to call in. If
you call in and talk to Anders, you win one
hundred bucks. If you don't, Soft and Fame have two
(34:11):
inunder Bucks giveaway two o'clock Corey Adams from Graham four
nine four to five or two O six two eight
six ninety five ninety five call right now, Corbus stannyboy.
Speaker 5 (34:20):
It's time to take a deep dive into all things
Seahawks with Corbyn Smith, sports reporter for Emerald City Spectrum.
All Seattle Sports, all the time, brought to you by
Jim Elliott with Windemere Real Estate, helping home buyers and
home sellers in Western Washington. Whether you're buying or selling,
contact Jim at two O six seven six nine five
four six six or at Jim That's sold by Jim
(34:43):
dot com. Now with Corbyn Smith.
Speaker 2 (34:45):
Here's he and Corbyn Smith from Emerald City Spectrum joined
us right now on the Beacon Plumbing hot Line and
Corbyn is over. OTA's done, Mini Camp done, Seahawks head
off into the sunsets and Corbyn Smith can maybe not
have to pump out three or four articles a day
at Emimal City Spectrum.
Speaker 1 (35:04):
How are you, sir, I'm good.
Speaker 11 (35:07):
I don't know about that last part, but uh, there'll
still be plenty of Seahawks content coming everybody's way.
Speaker 2 (35:13):
Yeah, you had to yesterday and you had to the
day before. I'm looking through here right now as I
am now a subscriber to Emeral City Spectrum. By the way,
Corey Adams from Graham has he called two six two
eight six ninety five ninety five. I think so. I
see Andrews of the headset off. So I believe Corey
has called that means a hundred bucks.
Speaker 6 (35:29):
It does look like he's writing things down, which is writing,
hopefully the information that Corey Graham would need.
Speaker 2 (35:34):
Corbett Corbyn, So Andrews, you know he works with us
every day. He kind of works for you as well.
You got you gotta teach him at a multitask all right, Corbyn?
Can you work on that? You got some time here
in the next month or so. Can you help?
Speaker 9 (35:44):
I don't know, he might be a little too old
now to learn that.
Speaker 2 (35:50):
Takeaways, takeaways and more takeaways.
Speaker 9 (35:52):
I want.
Speaker 2 (35:53):
I'm gonna get to some specific questions in a second.
But year two I'm gonna start with this year two
of Mike Donald is the head coach, but year one
of the Clint Kubiak offensive coaching staff. Let's start with
the coaches year two. How different was it? What jumped
out of you just from whether the head coach defensive side,
(36:13):
offensive side, new coaches? What jumped out at you from
that standpoint in the OTA is in the mini camps
you saw, I.
Speaker 11 (36:21):
Would say the biggest thing that jumped out from a
coaching standpoint is it just felt like this new offensive
coaching staff. When practice started, they were practicing. There wasn't
a bunch of downtime. And I think that's the thing
you and I started to notice last year with the
staff that there was Yeah, they were working on fundamentals,
but there was so much downtime with coaches talking through
(36:42):
stuff with guys, and I think that's part of the
reason the players got frustrated, like, look, I need reps.
Speaker 9 (36:47):
This is not what I need as.
Speaker 11 (36:50):
Far as yeah, quickly tell me what I need to
do and then let's apply it to whatever drill we're doing.
That is not an issue with this much more experienced staff.
Those guys are getting after it. John Benton, for example,
if John Benton tells. He seems like he's a guy.
A few words.
Speaker 9 (37:04):
He tells you, this is what you.
Speaker 11 (37:05):
Need to do, maybe walks through real quick what you
need to do footwork wise.
Speaker 9 (37:09):
Okay, now go do it.
Speaker 11 (37:11):
And there's just a real emphasis on pacing that we
didn't see last year. And so that's the biggest thing
that I'm noticing. Defense was like that last year and
it's that way this year. They're even faster because the
guys are much more comfortable with what they're doing. But
that was the thing that really jumped out to me,
was just the intentionality into pacing on the offensive side
of the ball.
Speaker 9 (37:30):
With his new coaching staff.
Speaker 2 (37:31):
There's a lot of consternation in this town about the offense,
Tam Darld taking over for Geno Smith. Wide receivers led
by Cooper Cupp, not by DK Metcalf and Tyler Lockett,
et cetera. I want to come back to the offense
in a second, but maybe this is an absolutely awful
comparison and feel free Corb to say that was brutal ian.
I'll never come on with you again. I'll find another
show on KJAR to promote ever City Spectrum. That's what
(37:51):
we'll do.
Speaker 1 (37:52):
But I want to compare them a little bit to
the Mariners. The Manners are.
Speaker 2 (37:56):
Trying to win with frankly, with the version of Baseball's
version of defense, which is pitching, and the offense kind
of takes a back seat. It's not as much of
an emphasis. We saw that in the offseason. Is this
a Seahawk team that is going to try to win
games strictly with its great defense that really we saw
kind of come to fruision year two, everything going on.
(38:16):
Is this a defensive first team that's gonna win games
with the defense.
Speaker 9 (38:21):
I think it is a defensive first team.
Speaker 11 (38:23):
But I think the one element that we just don't
know anything about at this point that I think is
gonna tilt whether this team is a ten plus win
team or miss the playoffs.
Speaker 9 (38:33):
Again, it's the run game.
Speaker 11 (38:35):
It is the support for Sam Darnold with a rushing attack.
If they can have a top fifteen run game, I mean,
they were twenty eighth last year. If they could improve
to being a top fifteen run game with the talent
they have in the backfield, the investments that they have
made in the offensive line, including grays Abel using fullbacks,
which that was not lip surface if you were If
(38:56):
you were at these practices, you saw fullbacks in that
lineup a lot. They are going to be making it,
as Abe Lucas called it, non negotiable.
Speaker 9 (39:04):
We are going to run the ball.
Speaker 11 (39:05):
If they are able to do that and take some
of the pressure off Sam Darnald, take some of the
pressure off the pass protection aspect for the offensive line,
That to me is the key. I think this is
the top five defense. I am one hundred percent convinced
of that. This is a group that is really fun
to watch. Their cohesive, they understand how to play together,
and they are extremely confident for good reason. The offense,
(39:28):
everybodys gonna point to Sam Donald. But if you want
Darnald to be successful, you have got to have a
run game. To me, that is the biggest question mark,
and we just don't know till the pads come on
what that is going to look like.
Speaker 2 (39:39):
Uh, running back position are what do you think they're
going to keep four?
Speaker 1 (39:45):
Three? Not fullbacks? They're gona keep the full back too,
but are we.
Speaker 2 (39:48):
Going to see is it Charbonnet and Walker and one
of one of the other two or do you think
they'll keep all four?
Speaker 11 (39:58):
I would think they would keep all four. Now they're
not gonna be dressing all four of them for game day.
What are those guys is gonna be held out?
Speaker 9 (40:05):
Most likely?
Speaker 11 (40:05):
But I just think with the way that this offense
is constructed, with a lot of two back sets, a
lot of two and three tight end sets, You're just
gonna see a lot of different personnel groupings and I
think that is going to have a major impact on
how the roster is going to be laid out on
the offensive side of the ball. And the other thing
to consider here, Kenny McIntosh is very much in the
mix to return kicks and punts for this team, so
(40:28):
that would just be another asset there. Damien Martinez has
been doing stuff on special teams, So those guys are
gonna be trying to earn their roster spots with not
just their running ability, but other things that they can
do to help this football team. So right now I've
been leaning towards all four of them making this roster
all right?
Speaker 2 (40:44):
Is our buddy Corbyn Smith and'll City Spectrum locked on
Seahawk showing us here on the Beacon Plumbing hotline.
Speaker 1 (40:50):
What'd you see from the quarterbacks?
Speaker 9 (40:53):
Well, I want to start.
Speaker 11 (40:54):
Look, if anybody's been reading on Emerald City Spectrum, you
know where I stand on this. And I actually posted
a few pictures on my social media last night.
Speaker 9 (41:01):
I Look.
Speaker 11 (41:02):
We talked a lot about Jalen Milroe going back to
the Senior Bowl even before the draft, and my reservations
about him as an NFL quarterback prospect simply was because
of the mechanical stuff. I cannot believe in the last
month how much better his mechanics look than what they
did when he first arrived for rookie mini caamp.
Speaker 9 (41:23):
He's playing with a wider bass consistently.
Speaker 11 (41:26):
He isn't air mailing throws like we saw a lot
of times at the Senior Ball. As a result, he's
getting good drive with that wider base, and he isn't
just being an arm thrower, which has been the biggest
issue for him on short intermediate passes.
Speaker 9 (41:40):
He has cleaned that up.
Speaker 11 (41:41):
The last two days a mini camp, he was the
most impressive quarterback the Seahawks had. And I know he
was going against thirteen defense, but he was also playing
with third team offense and he was winging the ball all.
Speaker 9 (41:53):
Over the place.
Speaker 11 (41:54):
Yesterday, he had a beautiful deep ball in a corner
out to Cody White. They were doing a team session
at the end the practice and it was basically, youngsters,
go show us what you got. He marched them right
down the field and even though Ricky White couldn't hold,
they would have been a really good catch, but he
couldn't hold onto the ground on a perfectly thrown deep ball.
Literally the next play, Milroe fires of one hundred mile
(42:15):
hour fastball over the middle of Steven Simms for a touchdown.
He just looked fantastic. And look, it's June. We have
to see that transition into game action. But look, Mike
McDonald was gushing about his progress yesterday, and I don't
think that McDonald is a guy that does that.
Speaker 9 (42:33):
Just for fluff. That's just not his style.
Speaker 11 (42:35):
I think they truly are really excited about what they're
seeing already. Development Wise, Sam Donald hasn't been bad out there.
I just think that there's some real issues that they're
trying to work through with this offense just being new
and him being new with these with these receivers, and
they're playing against that defense, which even in June, that
is an easy task with a talent on that side
of the ball.
Speaker 2 (42:55):
Corpus Smith joining us here on the Beacon Plumbing hot line.
Did we learn anything we've talked at endlessly we've talked
about the offensive line. Did we learn anything about what
they're doing on the offensive line that we didn't know already?
Listen to the tackles being I mentioned this is SOFTI
the other day. You know you guys that have to
be out there every day and are charting everything that
(43:16):
happens and all that. God bless you For me. My
biggest thing was to see, like, who's there, who's healthy?
I thought it was a huge deal to see the
veterans out there that didn't need to be there for
OTAs et cetera.
Speaker 1 (43:26):
You and I talked about that last week.
Speaker 2 (43:28):
But more importantly on the offensive line, my biggest thing
was I saw the two tackles healthy out there together
for the first time in two years together in Cross
and Lucas. We know Zabels the left guard. Did we
learn anything else or are we just waiting for training
camp for battles.
Speaker 11 (43:42):
I think we're at this point gonna have to wait
till the pads come on to really have a true
idea what's going to happen at right guard?
Speaker 9 (43:48):
I mean and center for that matter, I.
Speaker 11 (43:51):
Still think, Oh, Timmy's gonna win that center job and
maintain it. I have nothing is suggesting to me that
Jalen Sundell is going to steal that job. But I'm
not to completely sit here and say that it's impossible
that that could happen in training camp. Because of his
athletic profile and playing next to his able he played
with at North Dakota State, there are some things that
make that an intriguing possibility. Right guard is the one
(44:13):
that is still very much wide open. I would predict
Christian Hayes, and I've been doing all along. I predict
t HEAs going to start in week one, But Anthony Bradford,
I will say this, he does look tremor. Mike McDonald
was accurate on that. He does look like he came
in a little leaner, and they're gonna give him an
opportunity to try to take back that job as well.
Speaker 9 (44:32):
And I won't be shocked.
Speaker 11 (44:33):
If we see Seitello Lemeya when camp opens and the
pads come on. He's been playing left guard to this
point back in usable. I will not be surprised if
he gets thrown in the hat there. Oh and by
the way, Christian Haynes has been snapping at center too,
so that's another wrinkle to throw in here. I just
think that until the pads come out, it's going to
be really difficult to put a finger on what's gonna
(44:54):
happen at right guard and potentially the center position.
Speaker 2 (44:57):
I'm going through this here, let me walk, walk me
through this. Okay, So Cross lucas Ola, Timmy Haynes, Zabel
roughly your starters, Bradford.
Speaker 9 (45:08):
That would be my estimation, right, Okay, yeah, all right?
Speaker 2 (45:10):
So then Bradford, Sundell and who am I missing? Lawn
Maya whom I miss? Oh? Josh Jones? Right, those are
that's nine? I can you almost Pet? Can you also
sharpy in your nine offensive lineman?
Speaker 1 (45:24):
Right now?
Speaker 11 (45:26):
I would not be so fast that because even though
I just said that Anthony Bradford is a leaner, I
do wonder if he might be a guy that, if
he has a decent preseason that there are a lot
of teams that need offensive mine help, that might be
a guy that ends up getting.
Speaker 9 (45:41):
Flipped at some point during training camp.
Speaker 11 (45:44):
If Christian Haines has beat him out, if the competition
is still very much in Bradford's court. Then that changes
things a little bit, but I could see that being made.
I think trying to cut Mike Durrell would be a
risky move, even with Josh Chillens being ahead him, just
because of his athletic ability and upside.
Speaker 1 (46:00):
So there's a.
Speaker 11 (46:01):
Few things there that may throw some curveballs in there.
But I understand where you're coming from though that it
does seem pretty set in stone with at least seven
or eight of those guys right now, and there might
be a few moving parts along the way.
Speaker 2 (46:14):
Corbyn Smith joining us emerald City Spectrum as well as
Locked on Seahawks podcast. Emeralcy Spectrum will tell you at
the end of the show the segment here they got
some great stuff going on in terms of the ability
to get into yearly subscription.
Speaker 1 (46:26):
It's awesome.
Speaker 2 (46:27):
I did it last Thursday and I'm loving every second
of it. I'm actually just telling Andrews a second ago.
I want to read it. I just forget his name,
is it ty Dane ty Dan Gonzalez. Yes, I got
to read his marriage. He's got a piece up in
the marriners of the headline. Good whoever wrote the headline
might have been you, Corbin, I don't know that's a
headline grab er.
Speaker 1 (46:42):
I'll get to that day.
Speaker 11 (46:43):
Tye had full flexibility because he's great.
Speaker 2 (46:46):
So yeah, that's a you're not gonna find this in
the newspaper.
Speaker 1 (46:51):
I'll tell you that right now.
Speaker 2 (46:51):
Okay, position group that will be the most competitive for
a fifty three man roster spot is what.
Speaker 11 (47:01):
I You know, I'm gonna say wide receiver just because
safety is gonna be competitive too. But I think that
they've got a really good idea who their top four
safeties are.
Speaker 9 (47:10):
Receiver.
Speaker 11 (47:10):
I mean when you go beyond the first three, and
you might even make the argument the first two. I
think Valdoz Scantling's on this football team, But you go
beyond those first two or three guys, Jake Bobo's looked
really good.
Speaker 9 (47:22):
Cody White, I mean, Cody White is one of those.
Speaker 11 (47:24):
Guys ian it saw in the regular season last year
when he had a couple big catches against the Rams
in that Week nine overtime walks. The guy just every
time he gets a chance, he makes something positive happen.
So I think he's very much in the mix. If
Greek Young is good to go, he's still gonna be
in there. Steven Simms. I feel like Steven Simms had
the football in his hand. Seventy five is in the
plays yesterday. The guy was everywhere, and he can return
(47:46):
kick some punts. He's done it at a high level
in the NFL. And I would even throw in Tyrone Broton,
the undrafted rookie out of Arkansas on there six five
or runs a four to three and all three quarterbacks
have town passes to him during Oka's in mini camps.
Sam aren't on a touchdown to him earlier, so that
guy's got some tools he can't teach. I just think
that is a position group, and i'dn't even mention Tory
(48:07):
Horton coming back.
Speaker 9 (48:09):
And then you've got Ricky White out there.
Speaker 11 (48:10):
I mean, there's seven guys battling for maybe two or
three spots on this roster, and I just think that's
going to be a very fascinating one to watch because
it seems to it's very head to head right now
across the board with a number of those guys.
Speaker 2 (48:26):
Do you feel better about the wide receiver position than
maybe when camp OTAs in mini camp started.
Speaker 8 (48:32):
I do.
Speaker 11 (48:33):
My only real concern and I think Tory Horton can
fix this problem. There's not a lot of speed in
this receiving corps right now. You don't have a lot
of guys that are burners valves. Scantling is maybe the
one guy that fits that bill, but he's getting to
be a little bit older player. Tory Horton is the
guy if they can get him back for camp, which
(48:54):
my understanding is they're thinking with this break now that
he's gonna be able to get over the hump and
he'll be ready for the start of camp.
Speaker 9 (48:59):
But that's a guy with legitimate four to three speed.
Speaker 11 (49:02):
They need another guy and they can really wreek have
it downfield and create.
Speaker 9 (49:06):
Separation and open things up.
Speaker 11 (49:08):
That I think is one of the bigger issues you've
seen with the first team offense a lot of times.
Sam Darnold just doesn't have guys getting open in these sessions.
They need somebody that can make it easier for everyone
else because they can stretch the field consistently. Tory Horton,
I think, is the guy that can be that.
Speaker 1 (49:23):
Great stuff. Buddy, I love talking to you.
Speaker 2 (49:25):
I don't know we'll do it again, if we'll do
it next week, or if we'll give you some time
off for what we're going to do. But you know
how much I love these conversations. Hell, I like the
conversation just standing on the sideline watching practice with you too,
So we'll see how it goes in the next few weeks.
Speaker 9 (49:36):
All right, sounds good man, I appreciate it.
Speaker 2 (49:39):
Before I let you go, tell people about Emerald City
Spectrum and what they can get there and the special.
Speaker 1 (49:45):
I think you still have a special this week right
for Father's Day?
Speaker 11 (49:47):
Yeah, yeah, our Father's Day special is going on through
Father's Day.
Speaker 9 (49:51):

Tidy Aganzalez's headline Mariner's front office confused to make mistakes
it can't afford. I will read that later on tonight,
probably with a Gin and tonic in my hand. If
I have a feeling, and I mean I have a feeling,
I'm gonna need it all for me.
Speaker 9 (50:28):
Thats what he always does, though he makes very very
good points to what's going.
Speaker 2 (50:32):
On there well and all the good stuff up there.

Speaker 5 (51:19):
On casting live from the R and R Foundation Specialist
Broadcast Studio. Now back to Ian Furness, powered by Seattle's
closest sports book, Snow Call me Casino. On Sports Radio
ninety three point three kjr FM, callin all hacks. It's
time for the annual Mayor of Maple Valley Open, Ian
Furnessa's yearly gong show and golf founding, all to benefit
(51:42):
Hlenski's Hope, the Jordan Morris Foundation and the Avery Huffman Foundation.
Speaker 1 (51:47):
Friday Jamai, eleventh one Drewids neighbor said.
Speaker 5 (51:50):
I'm shocked at how much damage they can do in
a nighthole scramble. Get registered today at Drewids glen goolf
dot com. This baby's gonna sell out, quickened by Lone
River Ranchwater, Prime Electric and Georgetown Brewing. The Mayor of
Maple Valley Open from Sports Radio ninety three point three
kJ r F.
Speaker 2 (52:10):
M All right, as you heard, Mary, Maple Valley Open
registration is open.
Speaker 1 (52:17):
I've got tech or not tex.
Speaker 2 (52:18):
I got a couple of emails the last couple hours
from some long time listeners and guys that have played
in the tournament many times before, Thomas al and others.
Hey have you announced yet when sign ups will begin?
I did yesterday yes you did. Now, I'll be.
Speaker 1 (52:36):
Honest with you.
Speaker 2 (52:37):
I understand there might have been a sporting event going
on that you might have been listening to on the
radio Los Marion Narrows, so you may have missed it.
Speaker 1 (52:44):
So here you go.
Speaker 2 (52:45):
Mayor Maple Valley Open registration is underway July eleventh, Friday,
Druids Glenn nine holes, two man scramble. I checked a
second ago, I'll check again. We are nearing the end,
so if you want to play, sign up as ap
for your spot, because we have looks like maybe just
(53:09):
a few groups left to go before we're done and
sold out, so make sure you sign up. Go to
Druids glennolf dot com. There's a pop up. They put
a pop up right on the front page of the
website for the golf tournament. Love it so yeah, so
go check it out. Let me just see I'm looking
through here. Somebody speak not named Ian Hi.
Speaker 6 (53:34):
Well, I can just tell you how much fun I
had in my first time being down at the Mayor
event and last year, and it was absolutely phenomenal. Everyone
who shows up is not only a long time listener,
but a lot of supporters of yours. Yeah, and it
was lovely and I can't wait. I'm going to shoot
down there right after the show on that Friday, July eleventh,
(53:55):
and I will be there.
Speaker 4 (53:56):
I might have, you know, a little bucket for the coup.
Speaker 8 (54:00):
I like it.
Speaker 1 (54:01):
Hey, there, you just.
Speaker 4 (54:02):
Saying there's party favors that only kooks can I enjoy.
Speaker 2 (54:06):
And now I and I appreciate that more than anybody
you know. Let me also point out, this is one thing,
one time of the year where you're gonna hear me
say things like go dawgs, go d u c ks, things.
Speaker 4 (54:21):
Like that, the square words. So I appreciate you spelling them.
Speaker 2 (54:24):
I said, there's one time of the year I say
those things out loud, and that would be on the
Mayor and Maple Value.
Speaker 4 (54:28):
But because we because the supporters from everywhere.
Speaker 2 (54:31):
We have huskies, we have kugs, we have ducks. We
have longtime supporter doctor Neil, who's a sun devil, my man,
doctor Neil. So many people come out there. Avery Huffman
DIPG Foundation Brand Huffman. His daughter died of that a
few years ago. It's a DIPG is a form of
pediatric brain cancer. There is no cure. It's a tumor
that basically to the stem of the brain. You can't
(54:53):
can't do anything about it. And it's the harsh reality.
And this sounds awful, but it is true. It is
a death sentence when you get diagnosed with it. It's
as simple as that. There are certain diseases in our
world that when you hear it and just you know
that there's nothing you can do except for quality of life. DIPG,
much like ALS, is one of those, and it's pediatric,
(55:16):
it's young people get it. It's absolutely horrific, and so
we're working on research for that as well. The Jordan
Morris Foundation sounders player Jordan Morris is a true inspiration
to literally thousands and thousands of young people who have
Type one diabetes. He was diagnosed as a very young
person with it, even though his mom was a nurse,
his dad was a doctor. And sometimes you know, it
(55:38):
goes undiagnosed for a while and then you got to
you still have to work with it and deal with
it on a daily basis and manage it. And he
he has really done so much for so many young
people and for folks at Children's hospital. He has a
foundation he started years ago, but it's very grassroots. Frankly,
everything they generate is on their own and meets with
the kid after every game home and away. Every Sounders
(55:59):
game home and away, it's with someone with type one diabetes.
He met with my son, made a massive difference and
so we want to support. His foundation also does a
soccer camp every year east Side Soccer Club.
Speaker 1 (56:09):
Weren't you part of that? You're part of the EASTI
Soccer Club, right, was not?
Speaker 3 (56:11):
They were one of my rivals. But I support It's
the same thing as you.
Speaker 2 (56:14):
In this case, my buddy Chance Fry and those guys.
They do a soccer camp every July for only kids
who have type one diabetes. It is a remarkable, remarkable,
it's really they do it up there and it was
a false city. That feel like a false city, and
it's incredible to watch a couple hundred kids that all
have a disease they have to deal with and manage
(56:36):
every day. They take breaks, check their blood sugar levels,
you know, have a gatorade, pump it back up, things
like that. He kind of bright and brings it down.
Just a remarkable day, inspirational day. And Jordan does that
and then Holnsky's hope, which you know you know very
well and all of us that are Kougs, but I
think non coogs all like understand what Mark and Kim
and their foundations all about with student athlete mental health,
(56:59):
and it's kind of trend. Laid it all the way
to the high school level. Now military as well. They
helped some of the military folks with it travel around
the country and we hate we help pay for a
lot of that too with them, And I say we
you listening right now who support so the golf teraments
a ton of fun. I will also mention for those
who have played in the past or who are thinking
about it, we have better and more raffle prizes, silent
(57:25):
auction items, but mostly Ralph. We try to keep it
all raffle that way. People everyone has a chance.
Speaker 9 (57:29):
You know.
Speaker 2 (57:29):
Sometimes you do silent auctions and it's like I get
priced out right away. Yeah, So we we have better
and cooler stuff this year than we've ever had before.
Just a quick shout out. I mentioned this with Todd
Liwiki yesterday. Seahawks to Seahawks and Chuck Arnold great great
supporters and I can't say enough about Chuck and what
(57:51):
he has done with miss over the year, and funny
we were talking about I had a meeting with the
mayor one time, a mayor meeting with a potential sponsor
actually was Derek from Low River Ranchwater and we're at
Dino's of all places, and Chuck comes in and he
was meeting some people and said, what do you guys
up to? And I told him and he's like, well,
email me tomorrow, we'll take we'll take care of you,
and he has since then. Chuck's unbelievable. And they get
(58:13):
a ton of requests and I know not they can't
fulfill all all of them. So I appreciate that. Todd
light Waking and the Kraken before I worked for them.
We're taking care of this golf tournament at a level
I can't imagine. And a shout out Kevin Martinez and
the Mariners are helping us out this year too with
some really cool stuff that you guys have a chance.
I'll reference one. Something has to do with cal Rawley,
(58:33):
so I'll just.
Speaker 1 (58:33):
Leave it at that.
Speaker 2 (58:34):
Huh to baseball, I think so. So we've got some
really good prizes, really good raffle prizes, really good swag
to get people as well. So sign up a sap,
mayor of Maple Valley Open. Go to Druids glennngolf dot com.
That's druids glendolf dot com. One more time when we
remind you. It's a two man, two person, two person,
(58:58):
nine hole scramble off at four thirty, should be done
around six thirty seven. Have a big party afterwards. So
it's nice and easy and quick. It's not eighteen holes.
Won't take you six hours. But you have to sign
up as a two sum, so you have to have
a teammate. You have to sign up as a two sum.
Don't email me, to text me. Hey, Ian, I signed
up as a solo. Do you have something. No, I'm
not golf tender. You swipe left. I can't help you.
Speaker 1 (59:19):
All right.
Speaker 4 (59:20):
That would be a really good innovative, Actually.
Speaker 2 (59:22):
It would, but I'm not that guy. I got enough
stuff going on. But I want to see out there.
It's a very very inspiring day every year, so sign up.
But as I mentioned, I cannot emphasize this enough. I
know a lot of you guys are kind of waiting
on it. Sign up asap. It should be sold out
by if not the end of the day tomorrow, I'll
be stunted. In fact, it might be sold out by
the end of the day. Today we'll find out, all right,
(59:43):
and anders and Mike Benton are taking the rains this year.
Faine has a storm game. Softy's going to be out there,
but he's going to be being softy, so we're not
going to put that kind of responsibility on him.
Speaker 6 (59:53):
Well, I'll put my rains on him to just let's go.
I'm going right after the show, right down there.
Speaker 2 (59:58):
But we always have the tradition is always been a
KJR team sets the score, yeah, and everybody who beats
that score, it's George Town gift card gets a gift
card to Georgetown Beer. As Matt Connolly told us last
week when he was in here, they used to give
away twenty five dollars gift cards. They used to be right, No,
it's twenty five. Now it's twenty because my old co
(01:00:18):
host and I a couple of times might have been
overserved and put up put up some big scores, and
it costs the brewery quite a bit of money. So
that's why we're having Andrews and Mike Benton will be
out there.
Speaker 1 (01:00:33):
Benton. I can't wait to see him at this idee.
I can't either.
Speaker 4 (01:00:36):
He's it's gonna have his ocular zone, Yeah he is.
Speaker 2 (01:00:40):
Does he have his own caddy? He put his own cat.
I'm guessing Benton has his own caddy.
Speaker 1 (01:00:44):
Do you think? What do you think?
Speaker 4 (01:00:46):
Lucas will be out there and.
Speaker 2 (01:00:48):
He's gonna get in the cart and Ben's gonna have
a caddy walking alongside the whole time, uh.
Speaker 1 (01:00:52):
With the rangefinder and then find him the yep.
Speaker 2 (01:00:55):
So it's one fifty five the slope and I'm thinking Andrews,
if he's just him, is in the back left today?
Oh god, I think what the good thing is with
with Mike and you, especially Mike, as serious as he'll
take it, we probably will be in a better shape
with the Georgetown gift cards. We won't have to do
like we've done in years past where we have to
like get extra ones made up and have people who
(01:01:16):
down to pick them up there in person. Anyway, sign
up now as long please sign up as soon as possible.
Go to juis glenngolf dot com. Softy joins us next
(01:01:36):
all right, Dave, Softy mall is here. I'm jumping in
the car yesterday, I'm driving home. It doesn't work this
one over here? Who's in charge of the buttons? That's
what I want to know. I haven't sat in this
butt in a long.
Speaker 4 (01:01:48):
Long Technically you are, so I am.
Speaker 1 (01:01:50):
Okay, the hell is important? You use the mic. That's
right now.
Speaker 10 (01:01:53):
I mean, if I'm in charge, why is he even here?
Speaker 2 (01:01:55):
He doesn't listen? So okay, and don't work anyway, listen quickly.
I'm jumping the car. Yesterday and you you almost pulled
a refuse to talk. Yeah, and you went from wanting
to refuse to talk about the baseball team to a
couple epic rants.
Speaker 1 (01:02:11):
What got India? I had a I had like a
stroke on the air. Is that what it was?
Speaker 2 (01:02:16):
Just because you lost my mind because I heard I
heard the falling Dick. I just I don't want to
talk about it anymore. Yeah, pause and then a four
minute just epic softy ramps.
Speaker 1 (01:02:26):
Well that's letting them off the hook too easy, man.
Speaker 10 (01:02:28):
I don't know. I just I'm just tired, dude. You know,
I know you're tired. I'm tired. Just as tired. I'm
going to go refuse to talk. Anders is not old
enough to be tired yet. I do a daily show
breaking down every single game. I'm like seventeen years old. Man,
you're you're probably born right two thousand and one?
Speaker 8 (01:02:44):
Run?
Speaker 10 (01:02:44):
You know, how when were you born? By ninety seven? Okay,
so you were four? Do you remember two.
Speaker 1 (01:02:49):
Thousand and one? Or it was my first Marror game
I ever went to? Do you remember it? Not much?
Speaker 3 (01:02:53):
Right, just because I have a picture of myself with
a baseball getting signed.
Speaker 10 (01:02:57):
But basically for the majority of your life, you're Mariner
memories are.
Speaker 1 (01:03:01):
Horrible, yes, terrible.
Speaker 2 (01:03:03):
Well, I mean they've been existing for forty nine years memories.
Speaker 10 (01:03:07):
I imagine doing that for the last let's say your
first sports memory and yours came when you were what
seven eight years old? So we're talking twenty plus years
of Mariner misery that you can consciously kind of hang
on to. And now I want you to double that
for me, add another seven years, and then triple it
(01:03:28):
for the old man over here.
Speaker 1 (01:03:29):
That's what it is. Okay.
Speaker 10 (01:03:32):
So when I say nine long, when I say we
are tired, we are tired.
Speaker 1 (01:03:37):
Okay, forty nine years yeah right.
Speaker 10 (01:03:40):
Nine yeah, forty nine years and a long damn time. Well,
we had you know, there's a young generation take over
this thing.
Speaker 2 (01:03:45):
We had you know, Saras come on earlier and tell
us about, well, they got to be careful with cal
Rawley's usage because when they get to the playoffs, catchers
catcher's offensive sure efficiency drops off. And I said, you know,
you remember forty nine years five playoff appearances.
Speaker 1 (01:03:58):
Are we really talking about the playoffs? Cal right now?
Speaker 10 (01:04:00):
The problem is if they want to make the playoffs,
they better play cal Rawley.
Speaker 2 (01:04:04):
Every damn day, maybe playing two positions right exactly.
Speaker 1 (01:04:07):
Let me pitch too.
Speaker 10 (01:04:08):
Does he realize that cal Rawley led the league in
games caught last year and the year before that. By
the way, where is he this year on that he's
acing for about the exact same one hundred and twenty
eight games behind the plate?
Speaker 1 (01:04:20):
You have the same.
Speaker 2 (01:04:21):
Speaking of our friend Young Andrews, his postcast with Chris
Crawford the other day started with a classic Kevin shackyism.
You know how I started this out. This is the
first thing you heard on the postcast. That's right, just
the heavy sock.
Speaker 10 (01:04:36):
That should be the new slogan in the ballpark, Mariner baseball.
And then get Tom Hutler, get him now on the
on the on the radio spot man of baseball, twenty
twenty five, and then you flashed out of.
Speaker 1 (01:04:54):
A bitch in the full street graphic for ticket information.
Speaker 8 (01:04:58):
That's right.
Speaker 10 (01:04:58):
Well, we have basically guarantee that they're about to go
on a hot street way after that grant we had yesterday.
Speaker 8 (01:05:04):
So you're welcome.
Speaker 10 (01:05:04):
They're about to win nine of ten starting tomorrow against
the Guardian almost reverse fricking teed reverse soft Man Barkley.
Speaker 1 (01:05:14):
It works every time.
Speaker 2 (01:05:16):
You know why they will do that is because they're
