Speaker 1 (00:00):
Virginia Mason Athletic Centers. We're at today. Kind of a
cool day out here. I'll be honest with you, this is
kind of fun.

Speaker 2 (00:04):
They do this.

Speaker 1 (00:05):
I want to say they do this also during training camp.
But all the quote Seahawks legends, the alums basically, if
you've played here, you're a legend, You're an alum for
the Seattle Seahawks are all out here today. Guys like
Jacob Green walking around and they're honoring them. They're feeding
those guys, they're getting a chance to watch Mike McDonald.
I think they'll have a chance to kind of talk
to the team afterwards. Really kind of a fun day

(00:27):
for these guys to come out and they get treated right.
This organization does things right, the Seahawks, they just do
it right. They take care of their old players and
their lums for the most part. For the most part,
they just do and really kind of fun to see
some of those guys walking around. So last day of
open OTAs. Mike McDonald will speak after practice today, I'm sure, Softy,
because he loves OTAs and summer training camp stuff. I'm

(00:50):
sure he'll have that for you later on because he'll
probably speak around to thirty two forty, But that's coming
up today, and then they have we're back here on Tuesday, Wednesday,
and Thursday of next week for the next three mandatory
mini camp days. They may have a couple closed OTAs
the next week for some of the younger players, they

(01:10):
may not. They may just but the veterans will be
done after next Thursday, and then we won't see these
guys again, certainly the media. We won't see these guys
again until next month, probably around.

Speaker 2 (01:20):
I did the math the other day.

Speaker 1 (01:21):
It's like the twenty seventh or twenty eighth, I think
it is of July is when training camp will starts.
So wrapping things up, we're gonna talk to Kobe Bryant,
Seahawks safety, coming up today at two thirty. What a
good story he is. Man came in as the Thorpe
Award winner as the best cornerback in the nation a
couple of years ago as a as a drafted player

(01:41):
and was a nickelback his first year. That was the
year before Devin Witherspoon got here and then got pushed
out of the way and then kind of like trying
to find a home, and for a while there was
a log jam at Safety with Love and digs and dummy, dummy,
you know our guy thirty three and all of a sudden,
Julian Love becomes the guy and Kobe Bryant emerges as

(02:04):
a safety and he's been really good in that role.
We'll talk to him coming up at at two point
thirty today.

Speaker 3 (02:09):
He and I have a message from Michael Barton that
do you talk to me? He says, go Koogs, go coogs.

Speaker 1 (02:14):
Listen, listen. Did I not tell you I can trust?
We can trust our guys from Sundery.

Speaker 2 (02:19):
Yeah, you do. You said that exactly. Been to summer?
Have you been to summer? I have not? Actually, what
is wrong with you?

Speaker 4 (02:23):
Man?

Speaker 5 (02:24):
I don't know.

Speaker 2 (02:24):
I don't get down there then very much.

Speaker 1 (02:27):
Go down there, check out the cannery, which is like
a kind of a furniture store, but they call it
a cannery. That's kind of a cool little I'm not
into shopping for furniture. My wife's maybe go down there
a couple of times.

Speaker 2 (02:36):
But it's not like my wife as well.

Speaker 1 (02:37):
But I can tell you the canterry is pretty cool
little place. So it's a good little town, man, It's
a it's a great little town. State Champions of Football
this year, can Great Keith and company? He Throst So yeah,
and Michael Barton has claimed a hundred dollars. We'll give
away one hundred dollars at two o'clock today. Text in
again your first and last name four nine, four or
five one and where you're texting from, like Michael Barton
from Sumner and we'll call out another Anders will coming

(03:00):
up at two o'clock today.

Speaker 2 (03:02):
Where were we? What was I talking about? You were
talking about Kobe Bryant.

Speaker 1 (03:06):
Kobe Bryant. Yes, the Kobe Bryant. Just a cool story
that he's kind of emerged. And now you've got this.
We'll talk to Corbyn Smith too about the depth and
I know Corbyn likes the secondary depth that they've got.

Speaker 2 (03:18):
And there's a couple.

Speaker 1 (03:19):
There's a couple of guys Shamargi and Charles is a
cornerback who played for New Orleans last season. They signed
him as a as a free agent, kind of an
under the radar signing. To be honest with you, Dean
Anthony Bell played for Cleveland, is a safety that they signed.
Those two guys not big names, not household names, but
they signed them. They've they've been making some impacts. They're

(03:40):
not to the.

Speaker 2 (03:40):
Same level as Julian Love was.

Speaker 1 (03:41):
Julian Love came here to Seattle as a guy that
was pretty decorated and obviously decorated, but he was a
team captain for the Giants end of his first contract
he came to Seattle. But remember when he came to Seattle,
it was like they had digs and they had Adams.
But but but Julian Love kind of emerged. And hell
of a one year two years ago, he had a

(04:02):
couple of games where he was playing. He had one
game he was playing thirty another game like less than
forty two games, less than forty percent of the snaps.
He still ended up being a pro bowler that year.
To Julian Love just emerged, Kobe Bryant's come of those
guys just emerged, Great Nickel Corner's rookie year, pushed aside
by the great Devin Witherspoon, and now a guy that
has really kind of taken out that job in the
safety position. And Monal warres here. Eman Warrior's here rather

(04:25):
he's a guy that's that's going to play. He'll be
on the field a ton, But we'll talk to Corbin
about where all those guys fit, and they do fit
to all those different pieces along the way. So that's
coming up here at two o'clock. Hugh Millan, we had
a conversation with him yesterday. I want to go back
to that in a second, because it was really good
to talk to Hugh. I thought about the new look

(04:47):
offense and what Sam Darnold's all about, what the offense
is all about. We had the conversation with Jake Bobo
on Monday when we were out here the first day,
and Bobo raving about that offense and what it can
do and what it looks like, just kind of the
pro style NFL pro style offense under center. We heard
a lot about the wide zone running game. But what
else does it look like? What will it look like

(05:08):
for you as a fan. We'll have that with Hugh Millen.
We got a daily power point at one forty five today.
Lot coming up right here on again an EQC no
Thursday four nine four five one first in the last
name texting right now where you're texting from your chance
one hundred dollars come up at two o'clock on nine
three point three KJFM.

Speaker 5 (05:28):

broadcast studio. Now back to Ian Fornz powered by Seattle's
Close to the Sports Book Snow call me Casino on
Sports Radio ninety three point three kJ r FM.

Speaker 1 (05:45):
Hi, welcome back in Sports Day nine three point three KJRFM, Seahawks.

Speaker 2 (05:49):
Open.

Speaker 1 (05:50):
Let me emphasize something open Ota number two, not OTA
number two.

Speaker 2 (05:57):
Open Ota number two.

Speaker 1 (05:59):
So while some might want to make a big deal
of one practice they saw a quarterback throw a couple
of interceptions one time in June in an Ota, I
can just emphasize again, this is only the second time
that we in the media have laid eyes on these guys.
I think that's important context. We talked about that earlier. Hi,
Hume Millen, how are you?

Speaker 6 (06:18):
Yeah? Yeah, that's that. That gives me a chuckle. But god,
I mean.

Speaker 2 (06:25):
What are we doing, Hugh, what are we doing? Well?

Speaker 6 (06:28):
A thing to note, you know, usually this is a
an axiom, a truism about mini camp football. The offense.
Just by the nature of offensive football, you're you have
a far less percentage of your menu installed now compared
to the defense. For example, you on day one you

(06:51):
install why stick? All right, that's the ubiquitous. You know,
the tight end, the number three receiver might be a
wide receiver, but the tight end goes down five six
yards out and then there's a there's a deep control
either from the slaught or the widest receiver, and then
there's another guy in the flat. So it creates kind
of a triangle.

Speaker 2 (07:07):
Read.

Speaker 6 (07:07):
It's a very ubiquitous concept in both college and in
the NFL. Like every team installs that. And so you'll
install it with in a certain formation and maybe attached
to a certain motion, and you'll show it in seven
on seven and then the defensees, oh, okay in this formation,

(07:27):
Oh they're gonna run wi stick on you know, maybe
there's only a couple plays they're ready for. And then
and then they start to see why stick, and then
they jump why stick? Well, then, you know, depending on
the urgency of the offensive coordinator how it ticked off,
he might be that either the next day or next week,
at some point he's gonna install stick nod, which is
like a little out and up inside out and up

(07:48):
by the tight end going down the middle. And so
if the middle linebacker wants to jump that stick, well,
the stick nod is the compliment to it. So what
frequently happens is is, you know, the defense does all
the barking and woofing and and you know they punt
the football straight up in the air after they pick
a ball off and what have you, and the offense
just kind of rolls their eyes and then you install.

Speaker 2 (08:09):
Stick not and then you you zing them for a.

Speaker 6 (08:11):
Touchdown, and now it's the offense goes, ahh, you jumped
on that stick, didn't you. You know, I mean I
could give many example. You could go slant and slugo
and and and other running plays and and and misdirection
running plays that compliment so so and so that's one facet.
And then the other facet it would be that sometimes

(08:34):
you're encouraged to kind of like push the envelope of
the read, like, hey, what can I get away with
on this read from this formation? And you know, you're
not as deterred by the specter of interception because you
want to find out just exactly, uh, you know, the
lengths that you can push. So at an event it's

(08:55):
it's meaningless and so on we go.

Speaker 1 (09:00):
Thank you, And Mike McDonald agrees with you. By the way,
I don't even know. I'm just sometimes shaking my head
at our business. Okay, let me move on. Let me
We had Jake Bobo on earlier, and we had him
on Monday late in the show and replayed it just
a little while ago in the first hour of the show,
and I wanted to do so just because we don't
get a chance much to discuss what he said. I

(09:20):
like talking to Hugh. I'm a little different maybe than
some guys. I want to talk to guys at talk
you know that will tell me something and give me
some insight. I thought Bobo was really fun to talk
to you in terms of the new offense, including Kubiak
comparing it to San Francisco and New Orleans stuff they'd
seen before. He wouldn't go as so far as to
say they are ahead of where they were a year ago,
but I kind of got that impression by talking.

Speaker 2 (09:38):
Just it's it's a different vibe.

Speaker 1 (09:40):
And listen, I am not here to disparage Ryan Grubbs
got huffing those guys, and there's a couple offensive holdovers
from the assists from the assistants last year. It just
it's a different world and sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't,
And for whatever reason, maybe just the chemistry between McDonald
did and grub it didn't work, and so they move
on and they bring in Clinton Kubiak. Let me and
this is of a mini hardcore football segment for everybody.

(10:03):
But you know, I've been listening and watching and hearing
a lot, and I just I wanted to get you
on today, Hugh. Can you give our listeners Seahawk fans
when they're coming out in July to watch training camp,
preseason games, or even the regular season, what are the
nuances of the Kubiak offense that you are going to
see that we are going to see that will make
sense to the average football viewer.

Speaker 6 (10:25):
Well, I've got four attributes that we can maybe focus upon,
and I'll just go sequencingly, you know, in the order
of a play, so personnel, that's something you can assess
in the huddle right or near the line of scrimmage
before the balls even snap. So when I try and say, okay,
these are attributes, this is how I'm deciphering it. Clint

(10:47):
Kubiak was the offensive coordinator at New Orleans last year,
but they had significant injuries to both their starting receivers,
Chris Olave and Received Shaheed. So I'm always you know,
it's kind of synthetical. Yeah, but right, So then I
look at his performance at Minnesota in twenty twenty one
and when he was the offensive coordinator, and then I

(11:09):
also give a keen look to the forty nine ers
he was the passing game coordinator a couple of years ago.
For Brock Purdy, the friendship between the Kubiak family and
the Shanahan family is real. I played, you know, with
with with both of them. So that's kind of how
I interpret. So let's say, for example, two plus tight ends.

(11:32):
The Saints last year were number one in the NFL
in their percentage at forty seven point seven percent number one.
The Seahawks, by the way, were twenty fourth. But then
you go to Minnesota in twenty twenty one and the
Vikings were twenty third, So you don't really get much
of a picture there. That's a little bit of ambiguity.

(11:54):
Right then you go to three plus wide receivers. Most
team the NFL is a is a three receiver league.
And you know, even just eleven personnel, which is one
running back, one tight end with three receivers, the average
is sixty one percent of all plays are from just
that That figure alone eleven percent. Next closest is twelve percent,

(12:18):
which is one running back, two tight ends, and that's
a twenty two percent. So first place is sixty one percent.
Second place is twenty two percent. So three plus receivers.
Let me get back to that point. The Saints were
thirty first in the league last year and the Seahawks
were third. The Saints being thirty first kind of coordinates
with the Vikings from a few years ago being twenty fifth.

(12:40):
So now we're kind of onto something that you're not
seeing much, three receivers relative to other teams, and then
carrying over with that, last year, the Saints two running backs,
so think of like the I from just having a
full back. The forty nine ers are far and away
number one because they have Kyle Usteff right. So last

(13:02):
year the Saints were fifth, a few years ago, the
Vikings were fourth, and the Sea xx were twenty third
last year. So now now we start to see, you know,
a little bit of a shape taking hold for personnel
in that regard ian.

Speaker 2 (13:15):
Okay, that's the first attribute. What's number?

Speaker 6 (13:17):
Yeah, okay, under center? Last year the Saints were under
center the fifth highest propensity. The Seawks were twenty fifth,
but when Derek Carr was healthy, they were under centered
the third highest, and that fits with what the vikings
were in twenty twenty one. The vikings were second, so

(13:41):
and the play action can be more deceptive. So under
center is going to be the second attribute.

Speaker 1 (13:47):
Okay, so Humil joining us a little mini version of
hardcore football new Seahawk offense.

Speaker 2 (13:50):
We talked about it with Jake Bobo. You heard it earlier.

Speaker 1 (13:53):
If you missed it, podcast is up. You can listen
to that. All right, So let's go to number three,
the third of four attributes that you really kind of
see that John.

Speaker 6 (14:00):
All right, So now you're at now again sequentially as
you watch it, formations the tree of the of the
Shanahan and Sean McVay and I put Clint Kobiak in
that they like to have condensed formations. And how is
that defined. That's where the widest receiver on both sides

(14:20):
of the formation are aligned inside the numbers. So the
inside edge of the numbers is fourteen yards from the sideline.
So just think this. You got squeeze formation. That could
be three by one, that could be empty, that could
be two back. It's just that all eleven players are
aligned inside the numbers that that can cause problems for

(14:44):
the offense. First of all, there's what's called a divider
rule for a cornerback. If you're a cornerback, you would say, okay,
if you if you line up that far inside, now
I'm not going to play you head up. I'm going
to play you outside leverage. And so if you're outside leverage,
then you're susceptible to crossing routes. If you're in any
kind of man coverage, you better chase like hell to

(15:06):
on a crossing route. Then the other part of it
is is it allows for what's called spray releases as
opposed to going straight up the field perpendicular to the
line of scrimmage. You can buy those condensed formations. You
can have a slightly widening. You're going vertical, but you're
also going ever so slightly at an angle towards the sideline. Well,

(15:29):
now the cornerback he's got to kick his feet and
he's back played pedaling in a way like, okay, are
you trying to widen me because you're trying to break
back inside on an inbreaking route to create more space,
or are you trying to widen me to get outside
leverage on me, so that you have all that grass,
all that grass towards the sideline because you already aligned

(15:50):
up so far from the sideline. So the formations that
and then you from those formations, you can get receivers
involved in the blocking game, not just against corners, but
they can come down. You had Bobo on yesterday, Bobo coming,
you know, get the bigger receivers. They they're blocking, not corners,

(16:10):
but they're lined close to the ball. So now they're
in a position where they can get the safety and
force the corner to have to to to make the tackles.
So the condensed formations the Saints last year they were
sixth of all plays. They were sixth in the NFL

(16:30):
in condensed formations. The Seahawks were twenty first. Now, if
you go to first and second down, where you're more
likely to be running, the Saints were fifty one percent
of the time in condensed formations. That was number two
in the NFL. The Seahawks were twenty fifth in the NFL.
So what you watched a year ago again ranking twenty
fifth in terms of condensed Now you're going to see

(16:52):
a lot more squeeze formations. The Saints against second in
the NFL in that regard, So that that that's going
to be a key action. We'll talk through hardcore football
about how that impacts a lot of schemes. But I
just glossed over some of the facets of condensed from motions.
But you're certainly going to see that.

Speaker 2 (17:11):
And there's a fourth one. What's your fourth thing? Sequence?

Speaker 6 (17:13):
Wide zone? Wide zoning yep, yep. So the outside zone stretch.
These are all plays synonymous. Last year, the Saints, they
were of all running plays to running backs, forty two
and a half percent were outside zone. That was third
in the NFL. By the way, the forty nine ers
were second, and the Seahawks they were at under seventeen percent.

(17:37):
They were twenty four. So you go from twenty fourth
out of thirty two obviously twenty fourth a year ago
to third this upcoming year. And that the wide zone
is something that really impacts the play action game that
we're going to see a lot of. And I could
even say that's a fifth component of it, the additional

(18:01):
uh play action, but the wide zone stretch and then
and then the naked bootlegs that come off of the
wide zone because you're you're got canine going far left,
Sam Darnold as a right handed quarterback coming out.

Speaker 2 (18:12):
Of the pocket.

Speaker 6 (18:14):
And then also all the plays where you fake that stretch,
fake like you're gonna run the naked and then pull
up within the pocket, within the tackles. And now, because
if you if the quarterback stays on the move towards
the right sideline, Sam keeps going to the sideline, well,
then all the the routes have to be outbreaking because
the the quarterback is running out outward right towards the sideline,

(18:38):
So the receivers have to break their routes towards the sideline.
So you you kind of run out of concepts. But
if you do the fake, fake the stretch, then fake
the naked, then stop somewhere in the behind the tackles
somewhere that now you're you're in the pocket, you've already

(18:58):
induced the defense to flow laterly before they come up
at the passers, so you're helping the offensive line. And
that's where you get with those condensed formasons, a lot
of crossing routes and other components that in breaking routes
as well as the outbreaking routes, so you have far
more of an array of pass comps concepts you can

(19:21):
run when you run that type of play actions.

Speaker 1 (19:23):
Hugh Millen a little Mini Wednesday version of hardcore football
here in the offseason, which I'm loving. We only got
about six or seven minutes left. So the good news
is there's mini camp next week. They moved it up
a week, so I'm gonna get you on next week
and we're gonna go. I'm gonna dive deeper into all
four of these next week with you in terms of
the personnel and what they've got. But let me jump
into the quarterback if I can, real quick. Yeah, in
Sam Darnold, I'll joking aside about red zone interceptions in June,

(19:45):
which I don't know. Again, just a quick little thought
from me the dummy here. I'm just thinking, Hm, red
zone interception in June. I'd rather see that than the
red zones interceptions or the thirty first ranked goal to goal.

Speaker 2 (19:58):
Offense October November. That's just me.

Speaker 1 (20:03):
He can enjoy that in Vegas. Okay, let me get
to this, Sam Darnold. I've heard the term game manager
with him before. I've heard that this offense fits him before.
How would you how would you react?

Speaker 4 (20:13):
To those.

Speaker 6 (20:14):
Well, before we get into talking about him specifically, let's
just talk about the term. Okay, in maybe an ideal sense,
game manager would not be the pejorative that it has become. Right, Like,
a game manager ostensibly should be something like, hey, look,
here's a guy that understands the circumstances of the game,

(20:37):
and he will make the appropriate decisions. So if it's
if you're up seventeen to six in the fourth quarter,
maybe it's yucky weather, and you know, you know your
defense is playing great, you're kind of backed up, it's
third down, Hey, don't force the ball, we can punt.
We're we're in great shape. And you would say that's
game management. Well, that's a good thing, right, But I

(21:00):
understand that words get co opted. Meanings of words migrate,
So I'm prepared to operate in this conversation under the
idea that that that's a negative. The game manager is
used to describe people that and it generally means, well,
you're you're too conservative, or you don't have the physical

(21:21):
talent to push the ball down the field. You're just
gonna dink and dunk, either because of your mentality or
because of your lack of traits. Is that a fair fairerfect?
And not only that a quick ad. This first time
I think I've ever used game manager in hardcore football.
I've never gone down this road before.

Speaker 1 (21:38):
It's a term out there, it's universally, it's used all
the time.

Speaker 2 (21:42):
Okay, minutes left before? All right?

Speaker 6 (21:44):
So play last year plays of twenty plus yards, Sam
Donald was number one in the NFL sixty two plays
of twenty plus plays of twenty five plus yards. Sam
Donald's forty one plays number one in the NFL. This
the stat portal for the NFL has attemps five or

(22:05):
more yards. I think that's significant because you know, checkdowns
are generally gonna be within five yards or all the
bubble screens that don't matter, right, So Geno last year
was thirty second in the NFL five or with his
pass attempts five or more yards to alion screamer. Sam
Donald was fourth. All right, A very similar statistic the

(22:28):
percentage of your throws that are at the sticks, meaning
the first down marker or past. Gino last year was
thirty first, Sam Donald fourth. And oh, by the way,
if you go, Sam Donald had six starts for the
Caroline Panthers in twenty twenty two. We had to start

(22:48):
for the forty nine ers. So you go over the
last three years, that's that's Geno first. Gino's forty second
in that category, Sam Donald sixth over a three year period.
Percentage of completions first down or touchdown. Gino is twenty fourth,
Sam Darnold's fifth over the last three years. This is
against twenty twenty two. The percentage of plays that are

(23:09):
attempted twenty or more yards down the field, Gino's twenty eighth.
Sam was fourth. This is in the last three years.
Attempts of air yards twenty or more yards Gino forty first,
Sam eleven. So one was percentage and one was the

(23:30):
total number. So all these numbers keep looking at you
and say why are you You might call him a
game manager back in is New York Jets days. I
didn't run the numbers then because I looked at the
offensive coordinators they had and the situation when he was
drafted as a twenty year old, had to play as
a twenty one year old and playing for offensive coordinators who,

(23:51):
after they got fired for the Jets never got an
NFL job.

Speaker 2 (23:54):
How rare is that?

Speaker 6 (23:56):
So there was a lot of things where he was
handcuffed in his years as Jets. Look, I don't want
to just complete throughout his Jet years, but if you're
a reasonable Blue Sky Seahawk fan, you'd say, hey, we're
we're kind of banking on that he's become a different guy.
He's eighteen and six in his last twenty four starts.
That's at Carolina, that's San Francisco, and of course the Vikings.

(24:19):
So this is what we see on the tape. Now,
this is what the numbers show, and the numbers do
not show anything resembling what is commonly referred to to
as a game manager in again a pejorative sense.

Speaker 1 (24:33):
I mean it's great information. I think it's sometimes Hugh,
you know this, there's narratives that are made out there
sometimes right, and you know, and then people go with
the narrative. They go with what they think and they
hear and the general stuff. And I think that's I
think it's a great way to look at it. I mean, listen,
time will tell you know what it's all about. We're

(24:54):
so damn early in this process. I just I'm going
to add one quick thing. I know I'm right out
of time. There was something wrong last year with Gino.
And what I mean by that is this your numbers
there they they give me the fodder that I mentioned
the other day, I felt like there was a guy
that wasn't on the same page with the head coach.

(25:16):
He was very concerned about some contract stuff that check
down Charlie. Numbers you just gave us, they don't lie,
those don't lie, you know, and especially the last few
weeks of the season, trying to stay above that seventy
percent completion RYP. That is just that is unde Listen.
We saw it. We talked about it in the final
three weeks. We talked about the lack of air yards,

(25:38):
We talked about all those things. And then the numbers
you just gave us emphasized that you had a guy
that just wasn't the same guy he was the previous
few years. And part of it, listen, part of it
might have been the coach.

Speaker 2 (25:50):
He just he was a peak guy. Pete juvenator.

Speaker 1 (25:53):
Gino's career he did that's undeniable, and it just wasn't working.
Maybe with a grub Gino Mike McDonald wasn't working. I
just I guess I would just say this, Hugh, I
think I'm excited to see what this new offense brings,
this new offensive staff brings, what Sam Donald brings, how
they incorporate somehow mill Roll perhaps in some packages, which

(26:14):
we can talk about down the road. But I love
that conversation. I think you just laid it out perfectly.
If someone's just tuning in right now, go back and
listen to this podcast, please, because we just did a
We did hardcore one on one in June, and I
think it was absolutely sensational. So I thank you for
that much.

Speaker 2 (26:29):
I love it. Yeah. No, good to be with you
as always, Ian.

Speaker 6 (26:32):
And you know, just a quick note to follow up
that on those checked own Charlie numbers. You know, the
victim in that primarily was DK Metcalf.

Speaker 2 (26:41):
Yes, because I would.

Speaker 6 (26:43):
Come every Monday morning, you know, and get up at
set my alarm for four am, because I had access
to the NFL's that ALL twenty two, the end zone
copy in the ALL twenty two, and I would sit
there and watch and I would I would pause the
tape and I go, what in the finge hell is
going on here? Like if you throw early on time,

(27:03):
you've got an eighteen yard completion. But if you if
you're gonna be half a second late. You're then then
DK's his route is gonna be into the linebacker. There's
not gonna be a chance. You've got to throw that
off the break like good quarterbacks do. And it would
just drive me and and I would. I would do
these steel shots and I would send them off, you know,
I just send them off the home grin. I'd send

(27:25):
them off to you. I'd send them off the Bucky
like I'd send them off the Softy. I mean, I'm like, like,
you can't even believe what is what I'm seeing? And uh,
but it would happen, you know, every week, and so yeah,
it was maddening. I mean, there's a there's a story
to be told out there that I don't know a
lot of a lot of fans don't want to hear.

Speaker 2 (27:45):
But nope, we'll talk next week. My friend Gray Stuff.

Speaker 1 (27:47):
Thank you, all right, Gray Stuff from hum Mill And
what a fun segment yesterday, just talking about that new
Seahawk offense, Concise and easy boy. I think we're ready
to go to watch more Seahawk football. All Right, we'll
take a break, come back. Andrew's favorite topic the image

about Stanley a final but because we we did this
story yesterday, Sarah Uh, Sarah Spain, we knew Hillary Night
wasn't protected and she's here is in Seattle.

Speaker 2 (28:44):
Know like we told you that yesterday on the Daily
power Play? Did we not? We did it? I think
we did?

Speaker 1 (28:51):
Uh, Sarah Sarah Sarah.

Speaker 2 (28:54):
Lordy, Lordy Lordie. Uh.

Speaker 1 (28:56):
Yeah, she's the first signing. They've actually sign a couple
of other good plays. I was talking else in luke
An today. The PWHL does a good job with the
expansion Teamskuber and Seattle probably pretty decent. They got a
couple other good young players as well. But Hillary Knight, Yes,
she was not protected by the Boston Fleet and she
was signed yesterday by the Seattle p WHL team. She

(29:21):
was Boston's captain, tied for the p WHL points lead
last year finalist for four of the year.

Speaker 2 (29:27):
Billy G.

Speaker 1 (29:27):
King MVP Award as well, probably will be the captain
for the team here this year too. I mean, I
think it's awesome. I mentioned this yesterday. I think it's awesome.
I'm sure why Sarah didn't know that, but it's I
think it's awesome. And she becomes a cornerstone piece, selling
point for the new franchise. It's just it's a really
good deal all the way around. And I got a chance.
Like I said yesterday, it'd beat her briefly during the

(29:50):
trip last year when they came out and they played
at Climate Plage Arena. They were there for a game
one of our games. We had her on the pregame
show and Crack and Hockey Network and great to have
her and Seattle. Okay, let's get to the the daily
in the power Play Stanley Cup Finals, Andrews, you want
to recap it last night or should I?

Speaker 5 (30:09):
No?

Speaker 2 (30:09):
Thanks, you can do it, okay.

Speaker 1 (30:11):
Leon dry Sidle second goal of the game, nineteen twenty
nine in overtime. He's good at hockey, Yeah, I think so.
He's got three overtime goals already this season. The Edmonton
Oilers have done a really nice shot, but coming from
behind in third periods. This season they do it again.
They take a one game a non lead over the
Florida Panthers in the game. Dry title getting his first

(30:35):
ever goal yesterday in the finals. Last year he played
all seven without scoring. How it got to seven last
year without Leon dry Siddle scoring a goal for Edmonton.
It's kind of remarkable.

Speaker 2 (30:45):
It's pretty crazy.

Speaker 1 (30:46):
Like they now have four third period comeback wins these playoffs.
They had three, which was a club record three times previous,
but they have now had four.

Speaker 2 (30:57):
Florida had a two goal lead and was unable to
hold on.

Speaker 3 (31:01):
Yeah, the fact that the Oilers and the thunder are
gonna be the two champions, it's it hurts my soul.

Speaker 2 (31:06):
And one of those is okay, no, it's not. Do
you like Florida? Just hate Edmonton? Why do you hate Edvonton?

Speaker 4 (31:13):
God?

Speaker 3 (31:13):
Their fans suck. Then whenever they come to Seattle. As
someone who has been around the concourse, they're the absolute worst,
by far, the worst interactions I've ever Their worst than
Kuck fans.

Speaker 2 (31:24):
Yes, by far. That's saying something. I know.

Speaker 3 (31:27):
It's really wild, man, It's just like I don't know
I I still want the the Los Angeles Angels. They're
a kind of a division rival of the Kraken here.
I want the Angels thing where they had the two
of the best players in the game and still can
win a title. When we're talking about Trout and o
Tanni playing on the same team, I got you.

Speaker 2 (31:46):
Yeah, well they don't.

Speaker 1 (31:47):
Did Trout even play when OI was there?

Speaker 2 (31:49):
Yeah? Yeah, always hurt. He had a couple of seasons.

Speaker 1 (31:52):
Say I'll say, did he play, like meaning like did
he actually play?

Speaker 2 (31:55):
Yeah, there was, like I think to at least two
seasons where he was The.

Speaker 1 (31:58):
Baseball's different, I mean, it's it's it's I mean, if
you have the two of the best players in the
world on a eighteen man, eighteen skater roster for a
for a hockey team, like you should be yeah.

Speaker 3 (32:09):
Yeah, which is why it's even more funny that they
haven't gotten it yet.

Speaker 1 (32:14):
I know, well, the well, you know, the hard thing
is and and not to I'm not being there, Hank,
but salary cap.

Speaker 2 (32:21):
League makes it so hard. It does make it really hard.

Speaker 1 (32:23):
That's why, like the Angels had no excuse, now they don't,
like really no excuse, Like there's no salary cap and
you're playing in southern California. You needed to add to
the roster with Otani.

Speaker 2 (32:34):
And well I tried to with Anthony Rendon. That did
not go well.

Speaker 1 (32:36):
No, but you need to You could add in Edmonton.
You're kind of hamstrung by the salary cap when you're
paying those guys.

Speaker 2 (32:44):
Guy.

Speaker 1 (32:44):
Yeah, I mean, I hate Darnell and nurses game their defenseman,
I think he's paid more than Bouchard is their best
defense wild and I hate his game. But McDavid was
unbelievable last night. Man, that guy is just he is possessed.
He's flying right now.

Speaker 2 (32:59):
If you like games, don't just watched just watch him.

Speaker 1 (33:03):
Just just watch ninety seven. He's just incredible. Four consecutive
multipoint games as well.

Speaker 3 (33:09):
In the playoffs, question for you, is he more not better?
Is he more talented than Wayne Gretzky?

Speaker 1 (33:19):
God, yes, Well he's bigger, he's stronger, he's faster, and
he is way faster. Wayne had a different feel for
the game anybody. Although if you watch McDavid's assists last night,
on the goal they got home scored, and then the goal,
then the game winning goal, they were both just insane.

Speaker 2 (33:37):
It's like everyone else around him is playing slow motion.
It feels that way.

Speaker 1 (33:41):
Seriously, when he hit it's you know, in every in
any sport, you can tell.

Speaker 2 (33:46):
Well equated to Lionel Messi in soccer.

Speaker 1 (33:48):
Honestly, it's like if you if you're watching soccer, if
you're watching the NFL, like everyone has an element of speed,
right and quickness, but there's guys that step rate themselves.
I mean when DK was here, like you just saw
a different level of speed.

Speaker 3 (34:04):
And it's not just speed in terms of how fast
he's going, it's how fast he's thinking and how like
he sees thing, waits for it to happen.

Speaker 1 (34:11):
And it really is a thing of beauty. You're not
only going fast, you're playing exactly. You're playing fast and
and that's what he does, you know, and that's that's
and they just they play with such great pace and
go and you know, I hear Seattle say they want
to you know, they want to play faster and with
more tempo and pace like they did two years ago.

Speaker 2 (34:28):
And that's all nice and fine. Everybody wants to do that.

Speaker 1 (34:31):
The thing with Edmonton and they play fast, they play
with pace, but they also play heavy. They play, They
play tough, like they did not get pushed around at
all by a Florida team that has been pushing everybody
around in the playoffs so far. And like, give Evander
Kine credit. Man that that guy his presence out there
and he can skate. Uh, it's just a different level.
I mean, these guys are the two best teams in
the NHL, which I love. I mean, that's the sometimes

(34:51):
in the NHL, a hot goalie carries a team and
they shouldn't get to the finals. These are the two
best teams, period, end of story. And and I think
it's going to go seven. It's gonna go at least six,
and it's gonna be epic. I won't talk about the
other winter No playoff series lays in June. We'll just
leave that alone. You know, we won't leave alone. E QC.
Note Thursday, ladies and gentlemen, we're gonna give away another

Those two really good at baseball this year. Cal MVP
good at baseball this season, twenty four home runs on

(36:20):
really good today too. Okay, we move on the Pittsburgh Steelers.
According to various reports by every person in the world,
that is a media member covering the National Football League.
They are telling us soursos, say, Aaron Rodgers will indeed
sign with the Pittsburgh Steelers. If the Steelers here in
Seattle two thousand and five were not hateable enough, they

(36:42):
really are now. And good news DK Metcalf is there
and they play Seattle Seahawks this season. That became a
lot more fun as well. Let's see Stanley Cup playoffs.
We told you a minute ago in the Daily power Play.
Edmonton wins in overtime. Leondre Idle nineteen twenty nine of
overtime Number one gets the game winning goal.

Speaker 2 (37:03):
They lead one game to nine.

Speaker 1 (37:04):

Speaker 4 (38:37):
Have you?

I'm asking you the question, have you?

Speaker 4 (38:39):
I have?

Speaker 2 (38:39):
Should Well?

Speaker 1 (38:41):
I'm guessing you don't have to subscribe since you get
paid by them, but yes, if you do, then boy,
you a good employee. Emerald Cityspectrum dot com. It is
local journalism. It is absolutely fantastic.

Speaker 2 (38:54):
I know this.

Speaker 1 (38:56):
You guys are all over the stuff going on with
the WNBA. My guy out there trying to say it's nothing.
I think it's something. I think there's a bunch of
mean girls. But your Storm writer's fantastic. Your sounders writer
leave something to be desired.

Speaker 2 (39:08):
Yeah goes Yeah. Connor Ben and Tendee for those that
haven't heard of him, he covered the Seahawks with me
in the last couple of years and he is killing
it with storm coverage.

Speaker 1 (39:19):
You guys are doing outstanding journalist. Every team is being
covered by Emerald City Spectrum and covered extensively. Go check
it out Emerald Cityspectrum dot com.

Speaker 2 (39:27):
And I also have a Father's Day sale going on
right now so you can get through June fifteenth annual
subscription for fifty percent off right now? Love that? Well,
let's let's get it done. I might even do that.
I think I'm gonna do that. How much is that done?
Thirty bucks done? Done? Half a year?

Speaker 4 (39:41):
Yeah?

Speaker 1 (39:41):
Yeah, I mean I'm gonna do that today. I guarantee
you I'm gonna do that today. All right, do you
guys should do that too? It's you guys do. Like
I said, every team covered, it's local, it's not they
don't have the constraints of space and a paper or listen.
Nowadays the newspapers are behind a paywall too, So that's
that's my spiel either. So yeah, yeah, that's my spiel
for these guys. I love what you do and I

(40:02):
love the passion behind it as well as as well
as a knowledge. Corbyn Smith of course, has been covering
the sea extra long time. You can also hear them
locked on seahawks. I've heard locked onto with something. Somebody
else does something with that.

Speaker 4 (40:13):
But we'll do it.

Speaker 2 (40:14):
I'll let that go. Let's get to it.

Speaker 1 (40:16):
OTAs are open, everyone's got takeaways, everyone's watching things.

Speaker 2 (40:21):
I'm gonna give you one.

Speaker 1 (40:22):
Takeaway that's just an observation, and that would be participation.
We have been you and I have been doing this
for a while, coming out here to these things, Corbin.
And when I walked out on Monday for day one
of being open for all of us, and I see
Jaren Reid who we talked to yesterday, Leonard Williams, guys
like that, that jumped out at me.

Speaker 2 (40:43):
Yeah, this is the most I have ever seen in
terms of participation for OTAs. And it continued yesterday and
into today. You have all these guys that they're out
here and I'd say you're getting a ninety plus percent participation, right,
and even the guys that are injured, they're out there
on the field, they're watching drills and stuff. So that

(41:05):
to me, all that says is just you've got the
absolute buy in to what Mike McDonald his staff they're selling.
And that Jared Reed talked about this on Monday. You've
got all this momentum coming off the way last year ended.
I know they didn't make the playoffs, but the second
half that defense was top five defense. They are chopping
at the bit for the chance to build off of that.

(41:26):
And so he was saying, you know, I watched film
by yourself long enough, like you want to be back here.
That means that they have got this culture where they
need it to be with Mike McDonald having his own
ingredients that are different than Pete Carroll. But these guys
are buying into everything's being sold right now.

Speaker 1 (41:42):
Jaron Reid told told me yesterday and Andrews was listening,
and I thought, Andrews right what he said about they
got a bunch of quote dogs here and it's in.
He kind of equated it back to when he first
got here, exactly right. And because you can try to
get guys to buy in, you can have a coaching staff,
establish a culture, you can do all those things. You

(42:03):
got to have the dogs, certain the mentality of it, right.
And I'm just talking on the defense right now. Leadership
and leadership right.

Speaker 2 (42:10):
Jared Reid was.

Speaker 1 (42:11):
Signed because he's still a decent football player, but he's
the alpha dog in that room. Devin Witherspoon third year
is that guy. We probably saw that with Ernest Jones
last year, Julian Love and guys like that.

Speaker 2 (42:22):
That's where it comes from.

Speaker 1 (42:23):
McDonald has established it, but maybe also McDonald has the
guys he wants here now.

Speaker 2 (42:28):
Yeah, he's had two drafts now and he had his
first full off season where he go out and get
some of these guys. And I'll say this, the two
secondary guys they signed in free agency have looked really
good this week. Schamar Jean Charles had a picked get.
I don't care what the ref said. He had both
feet and bounds. Devin Witherspoon agrees with me, my.

Speaker 1 (42:44):
Guy, Jeff, I'm gonna go talk to you out there,
Jeff out there. Yeah. And de Anthony Bell was to
me the player of the day in Wednesday's practice. He
had a pick and had a pass breakup that led
to a pick for Tayo Kata and he was signed
to a two year deal in free agency. Well, let's
talk about these guys for a second, because I think
that's an interesting that's an interesting deal.

Speaker 2 (43:03):
Schamar.

Speaker 1 (43:03):
Geen Charles is from what was playing with New Orleans, right, Yeah,
and you got signed as a free agency quarterback. We
have not talked about guys like that at all. Let's
let's start with him.

Speaker 2 (43:11):
Yeah. You know, he's a player that when you look
at his size, you would think he's a slot he's,
but he's pretty much exclusively played on the boundary in
his NFL career, and that's where the Seahawks have been
using him so far. But you know what I love
about it. You could tell the dude's chippy and he
has a little bit of a rock on his shoulder.
You can tell that with the way he plays, Uh,

(43:32):
the enthusiasm that he has, he can tell teammates are
already loving him. That interception that he had off of
it came off rookie Tyrone Broden's hands and he reeled
it in and got both feed and bounds and then
of course they said it was out of bounds and
he you know, it's it's all fun and games, but
just like really really rough, really and then you have
Devin Witherspoon running down like my boy got a pick,

(43:52):
you know, and uh, yeah, they seem to love him.
And the same thing goes for de Anthony Bell.

Speaker 4 (43:58):
Uh he is.

Speaker 2 (43:59):
I watched his tape after the Seahawks signed him with Cleveland,
and when he had his chances to play on defense,
he was pretty darn good for the Cleveland Browns's safety's safety.

Speaker 1 (44:09):
Charles is its corner and Bell's a safety. Yeah, tell
us about the Anthony Bell.

Speaker 2 (44:14):
He's a big guy. Yeah, he so. I've had some
people message me about this like, where's he going to
ever fit in now with Em and Warry? And I'm like,
Mike McDonald will play for safeties that they'll mix him in.
I mean, he could put Em and Warri or Bell
as a linebacker. They're big enough. He can do it
in Nickel packages and din packages. He is a thumper.

(44:34):
He plays with high energy and you know the other
thing that we've noticed out here, he's got some range
and coverage. I mean, he had a really nice pick
on a deep ball that Sam Darnold chucked up to
Marquez Valdez scantling and he Willy mazed it all right
over the right, over the shoulder and caught it and
then took it back thirty yards befere they blew the whistle.
He's uh yeah. Every time every time I watched him
in Cleveland, he was good a guy. The Browns probably

(44:56):
should have not let go, but they Cleveland make a
bad decision. I think they did.

Speaker 1 (45:02):
Yeah, shocking. I think he's I think he's a good player.
When I was filmed so so, I mean, which which
really kind of is interesting, Like you start looking where
is the squeeze gonna come? I mean that's I was
just going to ask you about the competition and the
position groups, and we'll get to that in a second.

Speaker 2 (45:15):
Let's just start in the second at corners and safeties.
There is some true competition. I think cornerback right now,
there's maybe a little bit more concern about the depth.
But but having Geen Charles come in and look the
way that he has right and Josh job has had
a pick in two pass breakups this week. He's looked
really good. I think you're supposed to do.

Speaker 1 (45:33):
But okay, did you notice yesterday they were not making
plays on the ball after all the hubbub about the
the red zone pas, Well.

Speaker 2 (45:40):
They weren't. They weren't aggressively playing the ball, like if
it was a deep ball and it was throw like
the one to bell you get to get over the
shoulder and stuff. But yeah, I did notice that they were.
They kind of backed. They really went to a walkthrough
or a lot of install after that.

Speaker 1 (45:54):
Yeah, they didn't want to The last thing they need,
even though it's a different coaching staff, the last thing
they need is the NFL going, hey man, can you
send us that practice day from that ota?

Speaker 2 (46:03):
Uh.

Speaker 1 (46:03):
With all these picks and all these plays, the defensive players,
Let's get.

Speaker 2 (46:07):
A let's get a fifth round pick from you.

Speaker 1 (46:09):
Yeah, that's so if we look at that, I mean
just at the corners, I mean Witherspoon, Woolen Job, Jean
Charles Neamiah Pritchett, has Pritchett probably got an opportunity here
to see where he fits into then.

Speaker 2 (46:21):
But he's gonna get pushed though. They've got two undrafted
guys that I think are intriguing in Zia Alexander from
LSU and actually the player that I had a higher
grade on come out of the draft coming from Villadova
Isais Waxter, who is another big dude six two two
ten and he's a he's in a boundary corner.

Speaker 1 (46:42):
Maybe less concerned about that position. Now the lay eyes
on some of these guys.

Speaker 2 (46:45):
Yeah, I I but I'm I'm still gonna throw this
out here for you.

Speaker 4 (46:49):
Ian.

Speaker 2 (46:49):
I'm still thinking you call the Miami Dolphins and look,
Jalen Ramsey is six million on the cap this year
and they might need a tight end. So put those
two things together. Let me go down on the tight end.

Speaker 1 (47:03):
Shart here, Royo, no Van Vooren, no Marshall lang Sobert,
no Barner Color, no offense.

Speaker 2 (47:12):
You can actually save money against the cap making net
trade and just include a late round pickt with it.

Speaker 1 (47:18):
I'm just trying to imagine a world in which Jalen
Ramsey is playing for the Seattle six Richard Truman played
for the forty nine ers.

Speaker 2 (47:25):
Well, I guess I could could happen. And here's the thing.
Ramsey didn't start his career with the Rams either. It's
not like that was. So this is my viewpoint. Could
you imagine having a secondary where you have Devin Witherspoon,
Requoll and Jalen Ramsey and oh we have Josh Joe
who can play too, and there'd be some talking going on.
Oh yeah, could you imagine Wspoon and Ramsey in the

(47:45):
same second. And listen, there's been a lot of people
that have talked about They have talked about like, well,
we wonder if he's like a cancer or something like.
Guys that have played with Jalen Ramsey love him. Yeah,
coaches love him. He is a team player and he's
won a Super Bowl. And the guy I'm just saying,
I would at least call about.

Speaker 1 (48:04):
Corpors Smith with a Simil City spectrum locked on Seahawks. Well,
I mean, I think Hughes talked about it a ton.

Speaker 2 (48:09):
And I agree with them. You want your cornerback and
cornerbacks to have that in them. You want intensity.

Speaker 1 (48:16):
Yeah, there's some guys, you know, maybe you don't want
your offensive lineman barking at guys that you want that
you want.

Speaker 2 (48:22):
I think Hughes used the analogies.

Speaker 1 (48:24):
I think I want my defensive back rolling in with
the biggest tires, the biggest rims, the flashiest car, because
you got it's like a relief pitcher. You gotta forget
stuff you're gonna get beat. And I think we have
that on those guys. Linebacker wise, I got a million linebackers.
Of course they go inside outside the stack guys and
are listed there too, But what jumps out of you there.

Speaker 2 (48:41):
That's the position now that I would feel like there's
got to, know, to be some reinforcements that are brought
in at some point, because when you go from Ernest
Jones entirest night to the next level. I'm still intrigued
Patrick O'Connell and Drake Thomas. Drake Thomas, to me is
the guy that's most intriguing there because last year was
coming off the knee injury. I loved him at NC State.

(49:03):
He's a he's a guy that gets sidelined to sideline.
He's very smart, he's a good tackler, but he hasn't
played a lot of snaps in the NFL, and Patrick
O'Connell has certainly not played a lot of snaps in
the NFL. The sleeper in that group is a guy
they signed as a tryout player out of Kentucky, Deeric Jackson,
who if you watch at Kentucky when he was healthy,

(49:24):
that was the issue. He had some injury problems. But
when he was healthy, he's a four or five to
one guy at almost two hundred and forty pounds. He's athletic,
he can cover, he can blitz, he does a lot
of the things Mike McDonald likes to have at that position.
So that is a name I would keep an eye on.

Speaker 1 (49:39):
Tell me about what you've seen. And it's hard because
you can't really block, you're not supposed to have that.
But just in terms of what we're seeing so far
from Byron Murphy.

Speaker 2 (49:47):
Well, he looks like he's added about ten pounds to
his frame. In my opinion, not bad weight, like it's
a good weight. He looks like he's added a bit
of muscle that to be an NFL player. Yeah, he's had.
He's had his first real off season to do that.
He looks spry, he's quick, hitting the pads hard. We'll
see where things lie, but it sounds like the Seahawks
really and McDonald's hitting at this in the combine. They've

(50:09):
got to get him in more third down three tech
situations where he can actually accentuate his past rushing ability.
I mean, last year according to PFF. Look, I don't
care about their grades, but their advanced stats are big
for me. He was the seventh best defensive tackle in
the NFL on true pass sets for past rush past
rush win rate. The problem was he had less than

(50:31):
two hundred and thirty opportunities to do that. So they've
got to get him more chances to be able to
rush in the passer and I think you'll see a
huge jump in his production. We'll check in next week
as well.

Speaker 1 (50:40):
But let me get too a couple other things like
Corpa Smith joining us locked on Seahawks Animal City spectrum
offensive line. I think we're starting to see it kind
of come into focus. We know who the two tackles are.
I'll just say it's nice to see number seventy two
out there healthy. It's the first time in two offseasons
we've seen him this time of the year out there
doing stuff. I think he said yesterday, you know, no
one's healthy in the NFL, which is I think there's

(51:01):
some people I know, but he's he's no way is healthy.
You're gonna be banged up, but he's out there, he's
doing everything. If you're practicing this time of the year,
you're as healthy as you're gonna be in the NFL.
Good sign there with the tackles all the Timmy seems
to be in trench right now as the center diableed
left guard, right guard rotation.

Speaker 2 (51:18):
Right guard is the competition where right now, as clink
Kubik said yesterday, it's wide open. Brother, it is. It's
been five practices right now. I still think Christian Haynes
is gonna win that job. I think that he is
a better fit for this scheme. I mean, Anthony Bradford's
still getting his opportunities right now. So clearly the coaching staff,
John Benton must see something there. Because John Benton's given

(51:40):
him opportunities, I wouldn't be shocked if Lemea gets over there.
He's been playing on the left side, but he's been
backing up Zable. Yeah, but I think he's a guy
who's gonna get chance. And the center position what I'm
intrigued about. We saw this in Wednesday's practice. Christian Haynes
was taking snaps there.

Speaker 1 (51:55):
Which we thought would happen last year and it never
really came to fruition.

Speaker 2 (51:59):
I think that the coaching staff change has probably has
made that happen. I think John Benton is more willing
to look into something like that than what Scott Huff was.
I don't know what it was. Scott Huff just didn't
seem like he was very enthused by Christian Haines. It's
just just my viewpoint on it, but that center position.
Jalen Sundell took quite a few snaps on Wednesday with
the first team. I think it's ola with Timmy's job

(52:21):
to lose, but it's clearly evident to me they want
to take a look at some guys that they're trying
to see where where Christian Haynes could fit in there.
I still think he's your right guard, but he ends
up being a really good center you put him at
the center position. Now you could have I mean maybe
Bryce Cable, who plays his way into it because they
won athleticism. Bryce Cable dos a ninety fourth percentile athlete.

(52:42):
He's the most athletic lineman they have, not Gray's Abel.

Speaker 1 (52:45):
Who's the is the backup swing tackle? Is it Josh Jones?
And word does that? What does that mean for Darrell?

Speaker 2 (52:50):
I think they're gonna keep both those guys, especially because
Darrell has been playing on the left side here. I
think Seattle is still very intrigued by him with his athleticism,
the guy that is a ninety percentile or better athlete.
He looks bigger this off season.

Speaker 4 (53:06):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (53:07):
Well, and I think he's a guy if you've tried
to float through to try to get to a practice,
you're not gonna get him. He's not gonna throw, He's
gonna get plucked immediately because of his traits. And look,
he had some bad film when he played last year,
but he also had some really good film, Like he
opened up a touchdown run for ken Walker and Atlanta.
I mean there were I didn't expect he was gonna
do that When I thought, oh man, this is you
know d two guy getting thrown into action, but he

(53:27):
did some really good things.

Speaker 2 (53:29):
So I think in the fact that Josh Jones can
play guard as well, I think they're gonna keep all
four of those guys. I would think I had Anthony
Bradford not being on the roster when we get to
the season, just because I didn't see the scheme fit.
We'll see where that goes now, but somebody's gonna be
an odd man out there. They're not gonna be able
to keep seven guards or whatever.

Speaker 1 (53:48):
So yeah, and uh, I mean they so that I
would think that that is a I think you kind
of laid it out though pretty good.

Speaker 2 (53:55):
As far as you know.

Speaker 1 (53:55):
Cable Dos an interesting guy is a late draft pick,
six round pick. That guy might be able through the
practice squad when it gets down to August.

Speaker 4 (54:02):
Okay, uh, just.

Speaker 1 (54:03):
Wide receiver group. There seems to be a lot of
consternation in this world about that.

Speaker 4 (54:07):
What do you think.

Speaker 2 (54:08):
I am in the other end of the spectrum. I
am really intrigued by this receiver group. And look, Cooper Cup,
I know, health permitting, Cooper Cup and Sam Darnold have
really looked good this week. And you can tell that
Donald already has a really good read on what he
likes to do, and he's thrown four touchdown passes to him.
I know it's OTA's but those are things you can evaluate.

(54:31):
You can evaluate chemistry between QB and receiver well, especially
in the timing offense. Yeah, exactly in Koby X scheme.
I love what I've seen there. JSN looks great, looks
really spry, and he's doing a lot of stuff in THEWCH.
He's gonna be He's gonna show that he's not a
slot guy exclusively. He can. I mean last year against
the Rams torched him several times on the outside. He's capable.

Speaker 1 (54:50):
Cooper Cup's healthy, He's still an elite wide receiver.

Speaker 2 (54:52):
This leak. Yeah, those two guys and look uh I
I can't wait to see Tory Horton. I still think
Tory Horton's gonna play his into a lot of snaps
this year. I think he's a really good player. Marcus
Veldez Scantling has done some good things this week and
extremely fast. You can see the speed getting downfield and
he's a savvy veteran. Drake Young's played well in these

(55:13):
first couple. OTA's got it and listen would be remissed.
We gotta mention Jake Bobo. And I'll say this, last
week I unlocked on Seahawks. I did my pre OTA's
roster projection, and I had him as my last guy
getting cut, the absolute last guy, because I just I
didn't want to. I love, I'm not going to do

(55:33):
that again because that guy just all he does is
just go out and just make plays.

Speaker 1 (55:37):
Well, he does two things. He catches the ball with
any block, and he can block in this offense. We
had him in the studio and here on Monday, yep,
And I mean he he knows what his role is
and he loves the physical part of the game. That's
how he made the team. I think he's a great
fit for this offense. Now, the more I've watched it,
I wouldn't be shocked if he ends up being the
number three target. I would not be shocked, Like that's

(55:58):
how much.

Speaker 2 (55:58):
But there's like guys going for like three spots that
you can I mean, Cody White has looked good out here,
Steven Simms has made some really nice plays out here.
They I think is a position that is better than
people realize.

Speaker 1 (56:11):
Yeah, Steve Simms was with Baltimore and came in as
a free agent. I the thing Dreek Young to me
is the one that might be He's been a special
teams guy. He's never really done anything in the receiving.
He's so athletic though, right and so and do you
want to cut a guy there that six two and
two thirty and.

Speaker 2 (56:27):
Klink Kubiak also likes to use his receivers in the
run game. Dareek Young is a former running back. I'm
not saying that he's making the roster, but I think
what I've seen here these first couple of days, he's
improved a lot as a route runner, and you can
tell that the receiver coach likes him a lot.

Speaker 1 (56:44):
Two more things real quick before you let go Corban quarterbacks.
I mean he shot that down on the our competing
station the other day, the Sam Donald competing talk, which
is ridiculous in my mind. But but you mentioned the
chemistry you saw with Donald and Cup and what Donald's
able to do. And then Drew Locke fits this perfectly
in terms of a backup. And then you got a
number three guy that has an upside, right, So quarterback wise.

Speaker 2 (57:07):
This is a much better quarterback group than they had
last year. It's head and shoulders above. I still don't
know if the starter is gonna be as good or
better than what Gino Smith was. That is what I'm
still kind of skeptical about. We'll see. I was bigger
on Gino than a lot of people, but I am
curious the how that plays out. I do love the
fact that Donald's hitting it off of those top two

(57:28):
receivers already, and you can tell the team is galvanized
around him, the love that they love Donald his personality.
So uh, but I think a QB room. Drew Locke
has looked like a starter caliber quarterback out here these
first couple of days. And if you have a backup
like that, you know he can win games. He beat
the Eagles two years ago on Monday Night Football. So
and Jalen Milroe might have the highest ceiling of all

(57:48):
three guys. It's a good situation. It's a good situation.
It's gonna make the preseason actually feel like, yes, we
we gotta watch this, it's gonna be must CTV.

Speaker 1 (57:57):
Well, it's just it's it's I think the thing like
you Hm yesterday with us, it's you have a guy
in Locke who has starter traits. Sam Howell kind of
didn't have starter traits, right, and and.

Speaker 2 (58:08):
He did and then he didn't. I don't know what
happened to he just never looked comfortable here.

Speaker 1 (58:11):
Yeah, man, maybe just part of it was why they
made a change on the offensive staff, right.

Speaker 2 (58:16):
I don't think he felt comfortable with the offense that Ryand.

Speaker 1 (58:20):
Honestly, I don't think Gino did either, to be honest
with Yeah. I mean you can see how his numbers
tailed off as the year went on, and it's.

Speaker 2 (58:25):
Well you could tell. You could tell. I mentioned this
before the trade happened when I was talking about extension
with Gino. I think it was the Packers game where
he threw one of his picks in the red zone
and it was to Noah Fan who was wide open.
The problem was Tyler Lockett was less than five yards
away from him, and DK Metcalf was like seven yards away.
The spacing consistently stunk, especially in the red zone. Good

(58:47):
luck in the NFL being able. The windows are already
tight when you don't have your receivers nestled together like that.
I felt bad for him a lot of those picks
because he just the receiving spacing and the concepts were
just they weren't NFL caliber.

Speaker 1 (58:59):
A little different than having romandsago against an eighteen year
old just out of high school.

Speaker 2 (59:03):
Yeah, a little bit different. Different. All right, what are
you writing on and what are you looking at next week? Yeah?
Right now, I've just been dished out my takeaway pieces afterwards.
Yesterday I was so excited about the run game being
non negotiable. According to Abraham Lucas wrote about that yesterday,
Sam Darnold and his relationship chemistry with Cooper Cup and

(59:25):
I am really excited to start diving into more on
these rookies now that we've gotten a chance to see
a lot of them on the field.

Speaker 1 (59:31):
It's gonna be fun. Emeraldcityspectrum dot com. Emerald Cityspectrum dot com,
what a what a great deal. I'm gonna go sign
up right now. Since we're off the.

Speaker 2 (59:39):
Father's Day sale, just use the code Fathers and you
can get off their June fifteenth. All right, all lower case,
it's all capital, it's all upper it's all uppercase. Yeah,
father's uppercase. I love it. I'm gonna do that right
now and get this. It's naturally the code is going
to be uppercase it's not gonna be lowercase.

Speaker 1 (59:54):
I might even read something on the sounders just to
give anders like a couple of little clicks. So yeah,
I appreciate it, so you keep I'm on board in
the meantime. All right, hey, great stuff, Corbin. Let's let's
do this again next Thursday.

Speaker 2 (01:00:04):
Al Right, this sounds good.

Speaker 1 (01:00:05):
That is Corbin Smith, and we'll see the spectrum locked
on Seahawks. We will take a break, come back with more.
Nine three point three KJFM.

Speaker 5 (01:00:15):
Testing live from the R and R Foundation Specialist broadcast studio.
Now back to Ian Forness, powered by Seattle's closest sports book.
Snow call me Casino on Sports Radio ninety three point
three kJ r FM.

Speaker 1 (01:00:31):
All right, welcome back to the Virginia Mason Athletics Center.
Ian Forness with you. We are joined now by Seahawks Safety.
I used to just say Seahawk defensive back, but I
think we can say safety pretty safely.

Speaker 2 (01:00:41):
Now.

Speaker 1 (01:00:43):
Kobe Bryant is with us. How are you, buddy? I'm
good man, But we were just kind of joking before
you came out of the break. Here a second to go,
and it was it's like seventy five degrees lake breeze nice,
not bad, Yeah, not at all.

Speaker 2 (01:00:57):
You can never feel you have to play footall in Judas.

Speaker 4 (01:00:59):
Not bad.

Speaker 7 (01:00:59):
Oh yeah, for sure, for sure, especially with you know,
training camp coming up. You know, we can't complain about
that weather.

Speaker 1 (01:01:03):
So you probably have some buddies around the league that
are like, oh yeah, no, there was a ninety plus
so oh yeah, this is okay.

Speaker 4 (01:01:09):
I'm grateful for this.

Speaker 1 (01:01:10):
Hey, year four for you, and it's been we talked
about earlier at Corpen Smith in here. Earlier we were
talking about the ride you've taken from the best defensive
back as a corner is a poundered corner in college
football to a nickelback had a great rookie year to
kind of being pushed aside all this logjam and then
you found this.

Speaker 2 (01:01:28):
Home safe at a safety position.

Speaker 4 (01:01:30):
Right.

Speaker 1 (01:01:30):
What's it been like the last couple of years and
was it challenging along the way for you?

Speaker 7 (01:01:33):
Yeah, definitely, definitely challenging. But ultimately I'm blessed, you know,
blessed to still be in this situation. You know, I've
dealt with the adversity that was throwing my way. She
got to keep going, you know, there's gonna be guys
that come into this lead that deal with similar things
or maybe even worse, harder things. But you just got
to fight through and just keep going and trusting guys
playing and the coaches playing.

Speaker 4 (01:01:52):
It'll work out the right way.

Speaker 1 (01:01:53):
This coaching staff, they obviously had a plan for you.
What's it like playing for Mike McDonald's.

Speaker 7 (01:01:57):
It's extremely fun, you know, me and me being and
a defensive guy, defensive back as well. He finds ways
for us to make plays, So I can never complain
about that. You know, That's always been like my strong suit.
So just making plays and have a fun with those guys.

Speaker 1 (01:02:09):
I read in yesterday and I thought it was a
fun conversation with him asking about, you know, a year
ago to now and the difference with the defensive system
being put in the new defensive coaches obviously at Dirday
and everything like that, But it's McDonald's defense. What's the
biggest difference from one year from year one to year
two for you guys on that.

Speaker 2 (01:02:27):
Side of the ball.

Speaker 4 (01:02:28):
It's honestly night and day.

Speaker 7 (01:02:30):
This I was joking with, actually him, I was talking
to him, not joking with I was talking to him,
and you know, guys like Julian Spoon just saying, like
this time last year, just our communication under the defense
the cause where we were struggling, Like you know, that's
obviously it was new for us and now we're just
like on it. Obviously was always room for improvement to
be the best, but just the growth and the communication,
everybody being on the same page and just trusting each

(01:02:52):
other that we're going to be in specific spots and
make those plays.

Speaker 1 (01:02:55):
Kobe Bryant with me, the communication, I hear that word
we heard that year that were all the time last
year at this time during the OTAs and then hitting
into Mini camp and then trading camp. Is it complicated system?

Speaker 2 (01:03:06):
What is it?

Speaker 4 (01:03:06):
No, it's not. Nothing is complicated.

Speaker 2 (01:03:08):
You know.

Speaker 4 (01:03:08):
That's what we do.

Speaker 7 (01:03:09):
We're here to you know, perform and make the plays.
But just the just the communications, like I said, just
the like everyone being on the same page. Things could
you know, change with different formations, things like that, Just everyone,
like I said, being on the same page and on
their job and executing it.

Speaker 1 (01:03:23):
That defense hit its stride down the stretch last season.
Was it just that just the fact that you guys
finally got comfortable with the system and you could like
Jared said, you could change plays almost like an offense
in the line of screens. Is that was the difference
between first half defense last year and second half defense?

Speaker 2 (01:03:36):
Yeah?

Speaker 4 (01:03:36):
Absolutely absolutely. You know, nothing is ever gonna come easy.

Speaker 2 (01:03:39):
The first wait, this league isn't easy, No, not at all.

Speaker 7 (01:03:43):
But it's just just keep going and like I said,
just trusting the planet you know coach McDonald has for us,
and you know that just believing the other guys that's
out there as well too, that they're gonna make the
plays and be in the right spots.

Speaker 1 (01:03:53):
So what kind of difference to the guy right in
front of you make and Ernest Jones.

Speaker 7 (01:03:56):
Oh Man, him and Tea Night made it a huge difference.
Just you know, those guys just bring the energy, they're
they're coachable. You know, they're willing to learn from us
and vice versa. You know, those guys they do a
great job and I know there continues to get better
and help us out a lot too.

Speaker 1 (01:04:12):
So Kobe Bryant with me, can I ask you to
give me a scouting report on the other side of football.
I know you guys aren't supposed to do much against them,
you know, and all that back off, but you're watching it,
your eyes are watching it. What do you see with
this new offense.

Speaker 7 (01:04:24):
It's exciting, man, just to see you know, with Sam
back there, and you know the weapons we have on
the outside, and obviously how tenants our running back room
was starting with K nine and you know the rest
of those guys are tight ends.

Speaker 4 (01:04:34):
Just just to see that.

Speaker 7 (01:04:35):
You know, this office is built for you know, success,
and I'm excited to watch those guys and compete against
miss Well and Camp.

Speaker 2 (01:04:40):
You've had to go against Cooper Cup a few times
over the years. Now you get to see him and
you still have to go against them and compete against
him in practice. Yeah, You've got against probably every good,
good receiver, great receiver in the NFL, whether you're playing
nickel or safety.

Speaker 1 (01:04:53):
What separates Cooper Cup from other.

Speaker 4 (01:04:55):
Guys just his knowledge for the game. Just you know,
we talk talk out side football as well too.

Speaker 7 (01:05:00):
He'll ask me questions, I'll ask him just you know,
his understanding of the defense, what we're trying to do,
and you know what he sees versus us and vice versas.
You know, he compliments us as well too, and just
you know, his his savviness as well too. You know
he's a great player and they decided to have him
over here.

Speaker 1 (01:05:15):
Kobe I heard his work ethic is pretty strong too,
and it feels like there's a lot of veterans. I mean,
you're a veteran of four years, but a lot of these.
You know, to see a Jaron Read and you know,
Leonard Williams, Cooper Cup, all those guys here in OTAs,
which you're not mandatory, that work ethic in that leadership
probably means a lot in that locker room.

Speaker 7 (01:05:34):
Absolutely when you see guys, it's on the year four
for me, you know, just seeing those guys year nine,
year ten, and like you said, you're whoever whatever it
is just here in OTAs. Obviously it's not mandatory, but
just to be the leader, to show up day in
and day out, that speaks volume.

Speaker 5 (01:05:50):
Man.

Speaker 7 (01:05:51):
You know that that shows that you can never be
too big for if you're trying to strive for grantness
down the road, you know this, this is definitely gonna
help us down the road.

Speaker 1 (01:05:58):
You you went against Sam Darnold last year, we've seeing him.
What do you like about his game and what do
you think he's going to be successful for the Seahawks.

Speaker 4 (01:06:06):
This is his consistency.

Speaker 7 (01:06:07):
You know, he's he's a he's a great quarterback obviously,
you know, playing against him last year and you know
the run that he had last year, and I'm excited
to have him on beer and i know he'll do
great things. Just like the weapons we have outside, he's
able to you know, get each and every one on
the ball. So I'm excited about that.

Speaker 1 (01:06:22):
You guys have the solid group in the back, you
and Julie like a really good safety tandem and just
really coming to your own along the way. Obviously, you
know what Witherspoon's like, is he still talking right now?

Speaker 2 (01:06:32):
Is probably probably he talked.

Speaker 4 (01:06:36):
That's who he is, man. That's that's we get them going.

Speaker 7 (01:06:38):
We love it. We know, never tell him to be
quiet or none of that. We we encourage him to
keep going.

Speaker 1 (01:06:42):
So that's LB days of what that is. That's like
Richard Sherman like, is he talking? But the two of
you guys back there, and whether it be Spoon or
Reek Josh Job, you got a couple of guys coming
in as free agents as well, but they dropped Nick
and mana worry who's this large safety, different body type
and everything else. It was like, well, that's weird, like
they do haven't needed safety. That's what Mike McDonald does though, Right,

(01:07:03):
He'll find a way to get all you guys on
the field. What do you see with the young kid.
He definitely finds wells to get us on our field.

Speaker 2 (01:07:09):
Up.

Speaker 7 (01:07:09):
He's he's young, athletic, he's very coachable. You know, he'll
ask me and Julian questions, even Spoon and I'm excited
to see him come in and you know, contribute whatever
way he can.

Speaker 4 (01:07:20):
I'm excited to have him in there.

Speaker 7 (01:07:21):
You know, I'll definitely coach him anyway as possible, and
obviously the other guys as well too.

Speaker 2 (01:07:25):
We'll see all three of you guys on the field, right.

Speaker 4 (01:07:27):
Yeah, that's the goal. That's the goal for sure. Yeah.

Speaker 1 (01:07:29):
Let me go with best best absolutely absolutely. What are
your expectations for this team to go all the way? Obviously,
just you know, me being a leader and just us
competing day in the day out.

Speaker 7 (01:07:41):
You know, one game at the time. You know, I
can never speak too too far ahead of the future.
You know, control we can control, and you know big
things are ahead of us for sure, because we all
work hard, we take this game serious and we got
the right guys around.

Speaker 1 (01:07:53):
Yeah, Kobe, is interesting that you're not getting a lot
of love nationally or from Vegas and all those things.
And I go back to, you know, years gone by
the teams, you know, ten twelve years ago.

Speaker 2 (01:08:04):
They love that.

Speaker 1 (01:08:05):
Like there's some teams and there's some places they want
the accolades, They want people to give them the preseason recognition.
How you want. You played it a small not a
small college. The college it wasn't get a lot of
respecting last I checked, went to the playoffs, right right, So.

Speaker 2 (01:08:17):
You probably like that.

Speaker 1 (01:08:18):
Yeah, do you guys as a locker room like the
fact that you're being overlooked?

Speaker 4 (01:08:20):
Absolutely? Absolutely, It just adds more fuel to the fire.

Speaker 7 (01:08:23):
Honestly. You know, we're like I said, we know we're
capable of. Just play our style of football. Don't get
caught up in the outside noise and be ourselves and
you know we'll not even show the world.

Speaker 4 (01:08:33):
We'll show ourselves we're caprible of.

Speaker 1 (01:08:35):
So you get three more days next week and then
you get about a month plus off.

Speaker 4 (01:08:39):
Yeah, what do you do?

Speaker 7 (01:08:41):
Enjoy the family, take a vacation for a couple of days,
and you know, I'm a quick turnaround person, I get
right to you know, the ground right away, so.

Speaker 1 (01:08:49):
You can't let it go right Yeah, Like I mean,
I just in terms of I mean, for us old
guys go to the gym three or four times a week.
I know, if I don't go two days in a row,
how I feel? Yeah, for an athlete, like you need
to turn it off?

Speaker 4 (01:09:00):
Yeah, yeah, yeah.

Speaker 1 (01:09:01):
What's that fine line between turning it off, going on vacation,
hanging out with the family, but also not wanting to
lose everything you've done over the last six months.

Speaker 4 (01:09:07):
It's tough.

Speaker 7 (01:09:08):
It could be tough, honestly, you know, just telling yourself, okay,
you got it calmed down for a couple of days,
it could be tough. You know, the competitive in you, competitiveness,
and you just wants to go and train and be
the best, but you know you need those rest days
just to get your body heal mentally and physically, honestly,
And yeah, yeah, for sure, for sure.

Speaker 2 (01:09:28):
I mean I know what I'm on the elliptical. I'm talking.

Speaker 4 (01:09:31):
For sure.

Speaker 1 (01:09:32):
I'm almost sixty, so it's a little bit different. Listen, man,
it's always a pleasure to talk to you. I appreciate
you guys.

Speaker 2 (01:09:37):
Coming in.

Speaker 1 (01:09:37):
It's after practice. I appreciate you coming in the offseason.
Seahawk fans love hearing from you. Yeah, man, what a
fun thing was to watch you play last year in
that safety position. Can't wait to see what happens.

Speaker 4 (01:09:45):
This year too, Yes, sir, I appreciate you.

Speaker 2 (01:09:46):
Man. That is Kobe Bryant. Will take a break. Come
back checking with Dick fan.

Speaker 5 (01:09:49):
Next testing live from the R and R Foundation Specialist
Broadcast Studio. Now back to Ian for it is powered
by Seattle's closest sports book, Snow call me Casino on
Sports Radio ninety three point three jj R FM.

Speaker 1 (01:10:10):
Well, this will be pleasant on a couple of levels. One,
it's Dick Fane too. He has a voice on cross talk. Hello, sir,
how are you?

Speaker 2 (01:10:18):
How you doing this?

Speaker 6 (01:10:21):
Me?

Speaker 2 (01:10:23):
Okay?

Speaker 1 (01:10:23):
Like, if you're an athlete and you're fighting through something,
you know, we'll all kind of give you credit and
all that kind of stuff. In our business, if you
don't have a voice, then you don't have a role.
So I'm glad to hear that you're running the show today, Buddy.

Speaker 2 (01:10:37):
That was you know, I was.

Speaker 8 (01:10:38):
I was baptism by fire. Learning in this business because
if you'll remember in the early two thousands, I got
my chops as a radio talk show host by being
a fill in for the Gros when the Graz was sick.

Speaker 2 (01:10:54):
That well, I got about.

Speaker 8 (01:10:57):
I got a couple shows a week, so I got
a lot of reps, so you know, And that's that's
how I grew my grew my chops and got my reps.

Speaker 4 (01:11:07):
You know.

Speaker 2 (01:11:08):
So we love the Gross.

Speaker 1 (01:11:09):
We all loved the Cross when I when I got
here in two you know, it's nineteen years this September
when I got here, and in two thousand and six,
and I was doing the night show with the Lease,
which makes me, you know, like all now you're kind
of utility guy, right.

Speaker 2 (01:11:24):
And I can't tell you.

Speaker 1 (01:11:27):
How many times it was I'd see the phone call
two O six four nine four, Oh that's rich More. Yeah,
and it's the same thing. It's like, uh, hey, I
need you to do ten to one today, that's right?
Or what Actually, I guess he was on one to three.
I think that he's on on the show that I'm
doing now. Yeah, it was like one to three because
it was Cross and Gas or whatever it was. And

(01:11:48):
uh and I'm like pulling in the funny thing was
I was commuting the first year down from I was
we couldn't sell our house or Vancouver, and so like
I would drive up on like leave it like I
don't know, eleven or so on Monday morning, and then
after the show on Friday, I'd go back. Sometimes sometimes
I take the train, you know, and Rich like, no,
I'm I'm I'm in Sha Halos right now.

Speaker 2 (01:12:10):
I didn't have that excuse.

Speaker 8 (01:12:11):
But you know, you know, Softie tells us nice and
early in the morning, so it's just like a regular game.

Speaker 2 (01:12:16):
It's sort of like a regular day, you know, prepared
to host the show.

Speaker 8 (01:12:19):
You know, when you get the text from the girls,
you know, it could be like at ten o'clock in
the morning for a twelve o'clock show.

Speaker 2 (01:12:24):
Ain't got no pipes and he used to.

Speaker 1 (01:12:27):
I think Softie still has like a voicemail from him
from like just like or maybe it's Rich has it
like just kinda and you knew it was just no,
you either went on a bender last night or or
someone wants you to go hang out and do a
happy hour this.

Speaker 2 (01:12:41):
Afternoon, bless And that's why he's a legend, you know what.

Speaker 1 (01:12:44):
They're like, those two guys, Grows and gas are true,
true legends.

Speaker 2 (01:12:49):
You know.

Speaker 1 (01:12:49):
That's why I'm glad when they finally put it in
the whatever the the Keith Jackson wore a couple years
ago in salesports were long overdue for those guys. They
paved the way. What's coming up today? What's on your
mind today? What's what's your earning.

Speaker 2 (01:13:00):
Topic of the day. Well, I'm a little tired of
the whole.

Speaker 8 (01:13:03):
Sam Darnold is a national story thing based upon two passes.

Speaker 2 (01:13:08):
That's it.

Speaker 8 (01:13:08):
I just turned on Sports Center and the next thing
I haven't heard it yet, but the next thing, after
Kendrick Perkins talks to Will Bond and Korneiser about the
NBA Finals, the next thing says Darnald on it, I
was like, Sam Darnald is on PTI based upon two
interceptions on day one of this week of OTAs.

Speaker 2 (01:13:31):
That is unbelievable to me.

Speaker 1 (01:13:34):
They need to listen to the first four minutes of
my conversation yesterday. We reran it today at one twenty
with Hugh Millon where he broke down as a quarterback,
who was in these things? Exactly what took place? In
other words, Well, first of all, and I just was
talking to Kobe Bryant on the air, and I talked
to him off the air, and then Jared read yesterday

(01:13:54):
as well. The coaching staff was none too happy with
what was going on. You're not supposed to make a
play on the ball unless it's obvious like you're not
supposed to. You get in trouble for that. The league
frowns upon that, because remember, no defending, no pushing, You're
just supposed to stand there. Julian Love jumped the route
twice on it on as you mentioned, probably a route
he knew exactly who what was coming. Donald threw a

(01:14:17):
pass that he would never throw in a game. But
it's this time of the year. You do stuff. And
for some reason brand X across the street decided they
wanted to make it a deal and bring it up.
And you know, is there a quarterback competition? Well, if
you watch five minutes of practice, which I've watched way
more than that this week, there's no competition because if
there was, you would see a rotation.

Speaker 2 (01:14:37):
Who's with the ones, who's with the ones? Hey? You
see a rotation at center, you see.

Speaker 8 (01:14:42):
A rotation at right, guard, right, and even because at
those positions you're not seeing a rotation at quarterback, and even.

Speaker 2 (01:14:48):
At center it's not much.

Speaker 1 (01:14:50):
But right guard, right guard turnstile well, and I go
back number two years ago, like, oh, Drew Gino so
three years ago, right Drew lock Gino Smith. Is there
a comp Titian, There was. Drew Locke was supposed to
get a start in I think week three the preseason, right,
and that's when he got covide. Before that week, he

(01:15:10):
never had first team reps.

Speaker 2 (01:15:12):
That's right.

Speaker 1 (01:15:13):
That's not a competition. Sam Darnold is just fine. It's
the dumbest topic in the world. It's now if you
want to say, could he get yanked halfway through the year,
of course, I'll dance with you.

Speaker 2 (01:15:24):
On that happened play.

Speaker 8 (01:15:25):
We'll actually play a little of Hugh because I heard
Hugh on end of the one o'clock hour with you
today and I heard a little.

Speaker 1 (01:15:31):
I'm gonna first the first five minutes of today, he'll
he'll explain exactly what was going on with that too,
and how there's no quarter.

Speaker 8 (01:15:37):
We're gonna replay a little of that a Hugh probably
in the next segmenting Baseball's Best post game show, which
might not be fun Bill Krueger at four o'clock today
to talk about Los Marin Arrows. Kevin Collaboro, our guy
who told us Ian like four weeks ago, we asked him,
flat out, give us one team that can beat the thunder.

Speaker 2 (01:15:58):
This was like the first round of the playoffs.

Speaker 8 (01:16:00):
Tell me it's Indiana, he said, the Indiana Pacers.

Speaker 2 (01:16:03):
We were like, we both were like, wow, really.

Speaker 1 (01:16:07):
Get up on that, get up on that down slope, Dick,
get up here we go, Get on that margin carpet
and ride baby.

Speaker 2 (01:16:15):
Have a great show. Mony I'll talk to see.

Speaker 8 (01:16:16):
Thanks for the mild mannered and marginally objectionable Inverness.

Speaker 2 (01:16:21):
This is paddle day, saying so long everyone,
