Speaker 1 (00:00):
And I am joined by one of my favorite guys
to talk to. We started every show, it seems like
at noon talking to Seahawk Player. We talked to some
young guys, We've talked to backup player. We're talking to
the man today. Jared Reid's here.

Speaker 2 (00:11):
What's up? Hey, what's up?

Speaker 3 (00:12):
Man?

Speaker 2 (00:13):
Thanks for having always a player. I love talking to you.

Speaker 1 (00:16):
You know that I told you with kJ Wright left
and that you're my guy.

Speaker 2 (00:20):
Now I'm here for win or lose. You're my guy.

Speaker 1 (00:23):
I'm here for I'm here for the most accoutable guy
in that room sometimes.

Speaker 2 (00:26):
All right, general question, how has it been sold? You got?

Speaker 1 (00:29):
I mean you've been You've played for Pete a long time.
Even after he left, he came back and played for Pete.
You got the new guy, new staff, it's really new.
How's it been?

Speaker 4 (00:39):
Uh? You know, I like it a lot. It's very demanding.
He asked a lot for us, but there's nothing too
much that we can bear it. And I think that's gonna.
That's what we need to get over to Hunt, to
be a physical team and a whole four quarter team
as a whole.

Speaker 1 (00:51):
I haven't asked anybody this, mostly because i've had a
lot of young guys on and different things. But you
can you can respond to this, what what do you
think happened last year? Because there's dudes on that team
on offense and defense. Now, I say that you were
nine and eight, it's not like it's not like Mike
McDonald and herided a five and twelve team.

Speaker 2 (01:08):
Yeah, but what do you think happened?

Speaker 3 (01:12):
That's a great question to me.

Speaker 4 (01:14):
I think it came down to execution and then just
being able to change up a little bit of what
we were doing, uh speaking defensively, Yes, we're not just
lining up with guys knowing what we're gonna be all
the time and for them to be able to scheme
us up.

Speaker 3 (01:29):
I think what we're doing now is great.

Speaker 4 (01:31):
We got a lot of interchangeable parts, a lot of
moving parts, a lot of audibles and defense We're not
gonna be so productable.

Speaker 1 (01:39):
I'm trying to think, is Mike Morris told me this
and boy and uh and Draymond Jones both guys said
the same thing. I said, Hey, who does this defense
really kind of who do you see just kind of
like just jumping out at you in this defense and
what you're doing?

Speaker 2 (01:52):
And they both said you.

Speaker 1 (01:53):
Why is that I have no besides the fact that
they like you, I mean, there must be something with
this that really fits you.

Speaker 4 (02:02):
I think they've never seen me play all over the
field before.

Speaker 2 (02:05):
Right, because you're a model A lot of nose last year.

Speaker 3 (02:07):
I just strictly knows and I really like to move
around a lot.

Speaker 4 (02:12):
Little uh. A lot of people don't know that, but
they moveing me around a lot. In his defense and
a lot of us, I'm moving around a lot, and
I think that you know, just coming back and you know,
just showing what I can do all over the field
and what we all can do over the field is
just it's kind of eye kitchen.

Speaker 3 (02:28):
It's a lot of people.

Speaker 1 (02:29):
It feels like those interchangeable parts. There's a lot of deception.
Is that is that safe to say? Like it seems
like he's like a mad scientist.

Speaker 4 (02:36):
It feels like sometimes and sometimes it is what it
is with you. Sometimes it can be high again, sometimes.

Speaker 2 (02:45):
Give me that technical term again.

Speaker 4 (02:47):
Sometimes sometimes it can be high. Then sometimes we high
is like the hot gotcha? The bys like that blatantly.

Speaker 2 (02:53):
What it is?

Speaker 1 (02:54):
All the all twenty two nerds in the media are
gonna go what does that mean. I don't get that
they can steal that one. I got a patent down.

Speaker 2 (03:00):
I gotta are you madden guy?

Speaker 1 (03:04):
Nah?

Speaker 4 (03:05):
I used to be I don't play games, and I
gave my gangs to my little brother.

Speaker 1 (03:09):
Yeah you're too old. Nah, I mean, what are you like?
I'm looking here, you're only thirty one.

Speaker 3 (03:14):
Yeah, I'm young. That's young.

Speaker 1 (03:16):
Trust me, I know what all you're looking at all?
Jaron rejoining us here on the beacon, plubbing outline. Uh,
I look at that defensive line and I wonder. I
wondered myself, how much did you guys miss Channel last year?
Like when he went down, Leonard came in and I thought,
I thought he played well. But it's like you take
that one guy off the edge and it really seemed to.

Speaker 4 (03:34):
Affect Yeah, Miss and Channer last year really heard as
we lost a key piece of veteran piece of experienced
piece on that edge. There's nothing against the other guys
that came up and picked them slapped behind them. But
Chenn is a great player. He has so much to
offer versus the run in the past because he's he's
really physically That's what I don't think people understand you know,
to go in and throw tight ends around and to

(03:55):
be able to set that edge and just his sadiness
to be able to change it.

Speaker 1 (03:59):
Up from power. So for this you got new linebackers
behind you. It's weird you'd be playing in a Seattle
Seahawks team that doesn't have fifty four behind you. And
it's been a couple of years since we saw fifty
back there. I mean, those guys were just main stage
with Bobby for so many years. You know, next step
after he hopefully he just get his Washington stuff out
of your mind and get to the Hall of Fame. Please, like,
let's be down. But how different is it? You know

(04:20):
those guys? So you got two new guys back there,
Dodson and Baker and young guy Night. What have those
guys been like?

Speaker 3 (04:25):
They're great?

Speaker 4 (04:25):
There's nothing like you know, having fifty four behind us.
He's a great player, great statement in this game. He's
on his way to a gold jacket. But like I said,
you got to adjust some times, and sometimes change is different.
So we don't have anymore. But we got two good
linebackers and Bacon t Dot. I think they are very good.
T Dot is very smart, Baker is very savvy, he's fast.
You could play men where he's real physical. So I

(04:48):
think we got a good makeup of the two to
make up for the one we lost.

Speaker 2 (04:51):
What's your job for those guys? Keep him clean? Absolutely?

Speaker 3 (04:54):
Yeah.

Speaker 4 (04:55):
I want them to be able to run as free
as possible. I want them to be able to play
as free as possible, and the trust us up from
what we're doing.

Speaker 1 (05:00):
I feel as if I'm seeing other guys take steps forward.
Can you watched Derek Hall a little bit? He was,
you know, I had kind of one of those he
almost had like a boy of mafay year you were
in the dream Baby year before, but I got a
boy of Mafe you know whatever.

Speaker 2 (05:13):
Rookie, then Al Suden.

Speaker 3 (05:14):
Last three pops stops out.

Speaker 1 (05:15):
Yet we're watching Derek Hall. I don't know what you
can tell from training camp from our eyes though, it
looks like we're seeing a guy ready to take that
next step forward.

Speaker 4 (05:21):
Well, I personally expect for d Hall to take that
jump that we need him to take, because we'll need
him to step up, and I think he's ready for it.
The way he come out here and practice every day,
the way that he's he prepares himself. I think he's
getting in that role of being the pro and has
more understanding of what we need him to do and
accepting that role to what we need him to.

Speaker 2 (05:41):
Jenerid with us. He internesced with you, Jenny.

Speaker 1 (05:42):
What what is the biggest thing for young guys coming
into this league that they have to adjust to in
terms of taking that next step? And it feels like
d Lyman always maybe take a year longer for whatever reason,
Like you don't see a lot of guys making a
massive impact. I'm gonna ask you about the the rookie
in a minute. But what is it that you've learned
over the years and you help guys with it they
need to take that next.

Speaker 3 (06:02):
Step I think.

Speaker 4 (06:03):
I think coming in from college and coming into the
NFL is the point of being the pro. And you
got to understand that you have to get real technical
because now it just becomes of your experience game. Now
you're playing players that have played this game for five
plus years that no little tricks to the trade.

Speaker 2 (06:18):
You can't just be quicker and stronger than anybody.

Speaker 3 (06:20):
Now. Sometimes you gotta play the game with smarts.

Speaker 1 (06:23):
So it's it's just experience that it's just and it's
the film room. How it feels like the film room
you're telling me is as important as anything.

Speaker 3 (06:29):
Yeah.

Speaker 4 (06:30):
The more Felm you watch, the faster you play, and
the more you can get a beat on stuff to
use the attributes that you have coming out of college.

Speaker 1 (06:36):
I see a guy though, that's that's that looks like
he's got that speed right now, the young guy Byron Murphy,
the seconds.

Speaker 2 (06:43):
What do you see in this young fella?

Speaker 3 (06:45):
Oh Man, strong, explosive, physical.

Speaker 4 (06:48):
Everything that you look for, the defense alignment he has,
he has all the attributes to do that. And now
I'm trying to take Hi under my wings as much
as I can because he's gonna play a lot this season,
and he's.

Speaker 3 (06:58):
Gonna make a lot of plays.

Speaker 4 (07:00):
But you know, he's still learning, and I wouldn't put
too much on him. David Barrett, you just want to
go play free, go play careless, and well care about
what he's.

Speaker 2 (07:09):
Going Yeah right, care free?

Speaker 3 (07:11):
Yeah?

Speaker 2 (07:12):
Yeah? Is he a sponge? Is he a sponge? Will
he listened to you? Yeah?

Speaker 3 (07:15):
Absolutely?

Speaker 2 (07:16):
Yeah? I mean, because I think that's the thing.

Speaker 1 (07:18):
How have you embraced the role that we were joking
off the year when you first sat down, and you
know Jared Reid, you know, drafted by the Seahawks back
a few years ago, and and you know in the
second round and in twenty sixteen. Wow, yeah, and now
you've kind of you've made that full circle. You had
success here, Soldier oats elsewhere in Kansas City and Green Bay.

(07:39):
They brought you back for a reason last year. I'm
sure John Schnatt I mean Pete obviously, but I'm sure
John Schneder wanted you back.

Speaker 2 (07:44):
Here for a lot of reasons. How have you embraced
this kind of role as a mentor to so.

Speaker 3 (07:48):
Many of these young guys.

Speaker 4 (07:50):
I really, I really like it a lot because you know,
I take what I learned from my vents and then
sometimes who are those guys, you know, clar Cliff Michael
Tavaru telling him and Dame Jordan Hill before even.

Speaker 2 (08:03):
Though he had his dude, some dudes.

Speaker 3 (08:06):
I can go on and on, but uh, I just
like it.

Speaker 4 (08:08):
I like it because I could give him some nuggets
and then I get to watch them without them knowing
I'm watching and see what they're using with right, So
then if I see something, I'm gonna say something to him.

Speaker 3 (08:19):
Look, you need to do x y Z. You need
to get your bike right before praise.

Speaker 4 (08:23):
You need to give that in the book on where
I'm on the field, I can kind of critique him
things and just help them be the best player that
they can be, because we don't need everybody along with us.

Speaker 1 (08:31):
I always I loved last year watching Michael Bennett come
out here and and you know, Cliffs out here a lot.
Still we still see Cliff walking around. One of the
great human beings on this planet. But I love watching
Michael Bennett come out souse. I think a lot of
people saw Michael Bennett. You know, you'd hear him. He's loud.
You never know what he's gonna say. I mean, I
never I definitely don't know what he's going to say.
My first favor I gotta tell you this my favorite

(08:52):
interview with him. Once post game We're doing a TV
post game and I said, listen now we're live, so
just iway warned him. I warned you, I said, we're
live one, but were you guys were playing Dallas the
next week and I said, hey, Mike, I said, I said,
what do you think about? You know next week is
Dallas and he goes, Man, I can't wait, I hate Dallas,
but why do you hate Dallas? And dead Panty says
they killed JFK.

Speaker 3 (09:13):
I looked at him, I said, I said, it sounds
like Michael B I can see.

Speaker 2 (09:18):
I said, wait, say the city.

Speaker 1 (09:20):
He goes, Yeah, Man, I hate Dallas the whole sy
they killed they killed JFK.

Speaker 2 (09:22):
I go in nineteen sixty three.

Speaker 1 (09:24):
He said, yep. I'm like, I don't even know what
to say at that point. But that's a guy, but
he's a character. But I bring that up because that's
kind of like a lot of fancy that watching him
on the field, even last year, he really and I'm
sure this when you were a young guy too. He's
one of those same guys, very technical, right, made the
best out of himself.

Speaker 3 (09:41):
It's a whole another coach on the field.

Speaker 4 (09:42):
And even when he came back last year, even like
with me, it feels good because I go.

Speaker 3 (09:46):
Back in the learning mode.

Speaker 4 (09:47):
Yeah, even though you know, I could be one of
the most experienced guys in the room. But you know,
when you get guys like in there is going back
to being a student.

Speaker 2 (09:55):
Can you can you still talk to those guys? Do
you still reach out to know?

Speaker 3 (09:57):
Yeah? All the time.

Speaker 4 (09:58):
Yeah, I'll still talk to him all. We build a
great relationship. I actually trained with Cliff a lot. When
Mike come around. Me and Mike just talk here. We
text each other. He had takes me at the games.
He's still coaching me when he's taking me. Yeah, you know,
so you know, just you know, it's it's all good, man.
We built a great relationship.

Speaker 3 (10:15):
Man.

Speaker 4 (10:16):
I'm very appreciative of those guys, and that's kind of
why I want to be with the young guys too.

Speaker 2 (10:20):
Jared, is that before I let go?

Speaker 1 (10:21):
Is that the best thing about football sometimes is the
relationships that you built over the years.

Speaker 4 (10:25):
Absolutely, I've gained so many friends through football, you know,
I can only imagine.

Speaker 3 (10:30):
And that's the thing. It's just more than a game
when it comes this.

Speaker 4 (10:33):
When you can build a chemistry with these guys off
the field, you play that much better.

Speaker 3 (10:36):
On the ship.

Speaker 2 (10:37):
I love it.

Speaker 1 (10:37):
Final thing, this team kind of flying into the raider
around the league. You know, the defense didn't have statistically
a great year offensively questions about that offense. I mean
I saw them some stuff today at the offensive lines
ranked thirty to thirty first in the league by experts.

Speaker 2 (10:51):
Along the way he's a.

Speaker 3 (10:52):
Kind of friend.

Speaker 1 (10:53):
What's that I said, right, the experts. Yeah, but it's
flying in the radar and we want to stay there. Yeah,
we want to like that, don't We're very.

Speaker 3 (11:01):
Much hunger and we're working very hard.

Speaker 4 (11:03):
And you know, I can't say to say what's gonna
happen during the season, but with the word we're putting in,
I don't put a downey pass any of these guys
putting him the song and putting the Seahawks lugo on
go out here playing, especially in blooming Field or wherever
we're playing there.

Speaker 3 (11:16):
I don't even know the other stadium's name.

Speaker 2 (11:17):
It doesn't matter, does it doesn't matter, It doesn't matter.

Speaker 3 (11:19):
Grass is green, the sky's blue. We're playing ball.

Speaker 1 (11:22):
That are the final words you'll hear today from Jeed
Reed before he gets in there and gets ready for
practice before all the fans.

Speaker 2 (11:28):
Thanks man, all right,
