eight seven seven to three DP show operator Tyler sitting by.
(00:56):
Good morning, those watching on Peacock and our radio affiliate's
iHeart Radio, Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 3 (01:01):
And those chatting on chat Row.
Speaker 2 (01:04):
Coming up a little bit later on five time cy
Young Winner Randy Johnson the Big Unit will join us.
Adam Lefko, our buddy who hosts NBA on TNT and
ESPN sports betting reporter David Purdham. We'll talk about the
John ta Porter details that have come out the Toronto
Raptors bench player who has been banned and maybe banned
(01:27):
for life. We're trying to figure that out because we're
looking at the press release by the NBA and it
doesn't say banned for life. It just says banned. We've
reached out to the NBA to see if there is
some clarification and see if the language maybe is being
interpreted differently by some NBA reporters. All right, Bulls knock
(01:50):
out the Hawks. Who knew the Bulls were in the
playoffs exactly, but they're here to stay at least for
another round. Seventy six ers. They got the heat, but
the Bulls knock out the Hawks last night. Zion will
not play tomorrow night against the Kings. And as I mentioned,
John tay Porter band from the NBA Pole question, Play
(02:12):
of the Day, stat of the day, all of that
forthcoming with the legalization of sports gambling, professional sports leagues
have faced a lot of criticism, a lot of scrutiny.
Calvin Ridley suspended for a full season, had multiple wagers
and the former first round pick Jamison Williams. He set
out four games he was placing bets in the Detroit
(02:33):
Lions facility.
Speaker 3 (02:34):
Then it was announced yesterday that John Tay.
Speaker 2 (02:37):
Porter received a ban, maybe a lifetime ban, and he
was said to have made thirteen bets while a member
of the Raptors. One of those involved him betting on
himself to underperform and another one in a parlay, betting
on the Raptors to lose. So his betting habits were
(02:58):
taken to extreme lengths and maybe the NBA followed suit
with that. But you throw away a career, you know,
young player. But nothing's more important to these commissioners than
the integrity of the sport that you know that what
you're seeing is real. The NBA doubled down on that
precedent yesterday and suspending him. We did reach out to
(03:22):
the NBA because I saw where WOJ some of the
NBA reporters said that the player, Jhonte Porter, was banned
for life. We're looking at the press release. It doesn't
say banned for life, it just says banned. Now that's
stronger than suspended, but banned. We're seeing if there's clarification there,
and maybe it's semantics. Maybe it might be where you're banned.
(03:47):
There's been players in the NBA who have been banned
for life, but that was with drugs and alcohol. Roy Tarpley,
I remember with the MAVs. I think he was banned
for life and then within two years. I think there
have been seven or eight players banned for life in
the NBA, and six or seven of those got reinstated
(04:08):
as little as two years later. Yeah, PAULI, Yeah, that's correct.
Speaker 4 (04:11):
I got a Washington Post story during the drug rules,
the three strike rules that the NBA had in the
eighties and nineties, seven different players were quote banned for life.
It was in the release, but then in the same
release said you're eligible free end statement in two years.
Do you think that the NBA purposely led left the
four life thing out of the release in case a
(04:34):
bigger name player, a younger bigger name player is suspended
for something similar or caught for something similar, and it
gives wiggle room to bring that player back at a
date after a year's suspension or more.
Speaker 2 (04:48):
Until we hear from the NBA where they say, you know,
he is banned for life. We're looking at this saying,
all right, they giving wiggle room in case it's actually
a name of a player that you actually recogniz instead
of John Tay Porter. Maybe, but I I until we
hear from the NBA if there's any kind of clarification there, Todd,
you reached out to them, we have.
Speaker 5 (05:10):
I'm curious too, is that the fear of setting a
precedence where now a bigger player is gone forever, because
once you give someone a lifetime ban, everyone has to
get it.
Speaker 2 (05:17):
Yeah, the Sixers rallied from twelve down to beat the
Heat last night in the play in tournament. So now
it's Philadelphia against the Knicks. And I was wondering the
last time Philadelphia played the Knicks in the playoffs, because
I thought they have to have played a few times
here recently. Well, you have to make the playoffs, you know,
for the Knicks. But and then you had Philly with
(05:39):
the process, and I think it's nineteen eighty nine. It
is the last time Philadelphia played the Knicks in the playoffs.
Speaker 4 (05:45):
Paul, you are correct, and the Knicks with the two
seeds swept the Sixers. Anybody want to guess some players
for either team and some are obvious.
Speaker 3 (05:53):
Nineteen eighty nine.
Speaker 4 (05:54):
Eighty nine six Ers, eighty nine Knicks.
Speaker 3 (05:57):
Okay, Marvin, that's right up here around Mark Jackson.
Speaker 4 (06:03):
Mark Jackson is correct, Oak Oakley's correct, Rod Strickley correct, correct, Barkley,
Charles Barclay's correct.
Speaker 3 (06:12):
Anthony Mason.
Speaker 4 (06:13):
Anthony Mason is not yet. I think he joined a
year later.
Speaker 3 (06:19):
Was the coach of that team?
Speaker 6 (06:21):
Interesting?
Speaker 4 (06:23):
Oh, I'm checking for coaches? Was that?
Speaker 3 (06:26):
That wasn't I think it might have been nineteen eighty nine?
Speaker 4 (06:31):
Checking?
Speaker 2 (06:31):
That's right in his window, isn't it was?
Speaker 4 (06:35):
Was Daryl Walker on that Rick Patino was the head coach.
There were fifty two and thirty bonus points for your seaton,
okaylo Other players in that series, Gerald Wilkins, Johnny Newman, Keiky, Vanderway,
Dan you loved him, love Cany sky Walker off the bench.
He was no offense, and then Barkley. He had to
(06:58):
carry this group. Ron Anderson, Cheeks Older, Mo Cheeks, no offense,
Mike Jaminski, Gerald Henderson, and Hersey.
Speaker 3 (07:05):
Hawkins Ercy former leading scorer in the nation.
Speaker 4 (07:08):
Chris Velp was that right?
Speaker 3 (07:09):
Christian Velp? No wonder?
Speaker 4 (07:12):
Barkley want to go to Phoenix?
Speaker 3 (07:13):
Christian Velp.
Speaker 2 (07:15):
It's the last time they played, so they're going to
get reacquainted here in the next round. Philly is a
slight favorite, so in that weird Philly has a play
in game they need to win to advance, and now
they face the number two seed and their favorite. It's
like when you have an eleven five matchup and the
eleven is favored, or you know, people pick the eleven
(07:37):
over the five. We see this in the tournament all
the time. This is the big reason why it's Joel Embiid.
When Embiid is in the lineup, the seventy six ers
win almost eighty percent of the time this season thirty
one and eight, best record of any player to play
in at least thirty games this season.
Speaker 4 (08:00):
Day stant of a day, stant of a day, stant
of a day.
Speaker 3 (08:05):
This is the stant of the day.
Speaker 2 (08:10):
This stand of the day brought to you by Panini America,
the official trading cards of this program. Kobe White went
for forty two as the Bulls beat the Hawks and
they advanced in the play in tournament. Forty two points
the most buy a Chicago Bull in a play in
playoff game since since the most points by a Chicago
(08:32):
Bull in a play in playoff game.
Speaker 3 (08:34):
Since Todd, I'm gonna say, Michael Jordan, no, Marvin Nate
Robinson no, no, now, once again, it's a play in
or playoff game. Okay, yes, Paul.
Speaker 4 (08:47):
Throw A, Ben Gordon, no, no, no this this player
actually put up forty four against the Hawks in the
Eastern Conference Semi five finals in twenty eleven.
Speaker 3 (09:04):
Derek Rose.
Speaker 2 (09:06):
Derreck Rose put up forty four against the Hawks back
in twenty eleven Eastern Conference Chucker semi final.
Speaker 4 (09:14):
Thank you to Yes, you know they do those questions
on the internet all the time. The athlete you wish
didn't get hurt? He is a he's amongst the one
seats there. He was too young and too good and
too entertaining. I know, Bo Jackson's emeritus. Yes, you know
there's guys like Kirby Puckett you wish could.
Speaker 3 (09:33):
Have played longer, but he played ten years.
Speaker 4 (09:34):
Yeah, it's almost like Derreck Rose.
Speaker 7 (09:36):
Yes, boy, yeah, Derek Rose. The one seat in the
Midwest region, Okay, for sure.
Speaker 2 (09:41):
Kobe White is the fourth Chicago Bull to score at
least forty points in a play in her playoff game,
joining Derek Rose. Ben Gordon and Michael Jordan, who did
it thirty three times stead.
Speaker 3 (09:57):
Of the data? Good? Here comes that? What stat of
the day?
Speaker 2 (10:05):
Alrighty, let's pull question today. Think you know the Hawks,
by the way, what's the story with Trey Young.
Speaker 3 (10:10):
I don't know.
Speaker 2 (10:11):
I keep hearing it's going to get traded. But you know,
whenever you hear that, I always go, Okay, let me
guess the three top places he could go. It is
one of the places, the Lakers. And it's always no
matter who's going to get traded, it's like, uh, I
don't know, Zach Levine to the Lakers, and I'm like,
every team, you got to start with the Lakers or
nobody cares about it.
Speaker 3 (10:31):
It's like Trey Young to the Lakers.
Speaker 2 (10:34):
I go, it's weird how you can average twenty six
and eleven assists and nobody cares. We cared when he
got into the league. We cared when he was in college.
But it's like, oh, that's right, Tray Young. You know,
it was a cute little story, and then now nobody cares. Yeah,
(10:55):
seton and you know everybody when you look at the
it's well, nobody plays defense.
Speaker 3 (11:01):
That's a big deal. But he really.
Speaker 2 (11:03):
Doesn't play defense to where it's you could clearly see
it's detrimental the until care possibly put in as many
points as he gives up in a single game. The
entire Hawks team doesn't play defense like you watching you go,
this is a playing game, like just a little effort.
And that's usually what I tried to do, Like I
(11:23):
gave you a fake hustle.
Speaker 8 (11:25):
You know.
Speaker 2 (11:25):
It's like, oh man, I'm trying to play defense. They
don't even do that.
Speaker 3 (11:28):
Yeah, not my job.
Speaker 2 (11:30):
Yeah I get it. Uh, all right, we'll get him
next time. But yeah, I think the Hawks experiment is
is over.
Speaker 3 (11:38):
Yeah, he feels like too good of a player though
to not have a home.
Speaker 2 (11:43):
It's weird how we don't hold him accountable for anything,
you know, Like Luca, hey, you know, you better get
to Western Conference final again, you know, when you're gonna
win a title. Trey Young, You're like all right, you know,
and these guys were traded for one another. We hold
Luca to a higher standard than we do Trey Young
(12:04):
and Trey Young, those are really good numbers.
Speaker 3 (12:06):
That's where numbers do lie.
Speaker 7 (12:08):
Yes, Martin, maybe we just don't care about the Hawks,
because I'm pretty sure they made an Eastern Conference finals
with Trey Young.
Speaker 4 (12:14):
Yes, yeah, yeah, Marvin's technically correct. I know it doesn't
feel like a fact. But just a couple of years.
Speaker 3 (12:19):
Ago that against Philadelphia.
Speaker 4 (12:21):
Yeah, they played sixteen playoff games a year. Okay, never
forget all.
Speaker 2 (12:24):
Right, But I don't think we're asking him to do
anything like the fact they made the play in game.
We're like, I'm good for you, all right, But it
feels like maybe you trade Trey Young, trade Young?
Speaker 3 (12:37):
See what I did with that?
Speaker 2 (12:38):
Ton?
Speaker 4 (12:40):
Yes, Pal, I would love to maybe have an NBA
person on to have the All non NBA Defensive Team,
the five players who play the least amount of defense.
I don't know if you're ever in twenty six and ten.
Speaker 2 (12:51):
You know what, why don't you reach out to Adam
Lefko and get my heads up there? Ton, He'll join
us next hour. We could ask for the All Non
Defensive team defensive team.
Speaker 4 (13:01):
The award is as you're standing there and the guy
is going by you.
Speaker 2 (13:09):
That it'd be great if one of those guys slaps
the floor, you know when you're you're really gonna play defense, Like,
there's no way that I would face you know, Steve
Wojahowski a duke when he slaps the floor. Oh, now
you're going to really play defense. Now you're gonna lock
some people down. You slap the floor. I remember seeing
(13:29):
this in a game. It was a like a cyo
or some kind of you know, youth and the kid
slaps the floor.
Speaker 3 (13:38):
The guy in his garden went ride by him for
a layup.
Speaker 2 (13:41):
I'm like, you got to slap the floor, you know,
well before he gets right up on you, like I'm
slapping the floor. And he looked down to the floor
and the kid went right by him. I went all right,
at least gave the impression you were playing defense. What
else do you have there?
Speaker 3 (13:55):
Seaton?
Speaker 2 (13:56):
Uh, well, we could dive into I'm trying to work
out one about the NBA's gambling policy.
Speaker 3 (14:02):
Is it working or is it in flux?
Speaker 2 (14:05):
Say, well, I think the system works, but it has
to work because Vegas, you know, all of these gambling places,
these outlets like they need to have, you know.
Speaker 3 (14:18):
Red flags that are raised.
Speaker 2 (14:19):
They immediately take a bet off the board and investigation
because that's their business. Their business is to protect these
leagues but also protect themselves. So the system works. It's
when you had offshore bookies and that kind of stuff.
That's when it was harder to trace. Now you can't.
And they acted upon this pretty quickly and able to
(14:42):
find out that this player from the Raptors was betting
with somebody else's account. They're just looking for Wow, that's weird.
There's a lot of money on Johntay Porter over under.
You know that's where you go and how you can
be this stupid, but apparently he was. It is like
they're never going.
Speaker 3 (15:01):
To notice this. Their job is to notice this, and
I think that's.
Speaker 2 (15:07):
I know a lot of people are having fun with this,
like you know, this brought to you by DraftKings, you know,
this update on John Jay Porter's gambling brought to you
by I mean, it's this is what they do. They
have to monitor. They're they're the lifeguard on duty and
they did a great job with this. But still it's
(15:27):
readily available. That doesn't mean everybody is going to do it,
but it is available these accounts. You can set up
an account. He was giving information to somebody else, He
bet against his team. I mean, wild stuff, and he
can't blame it on not having an interpreter. I think
that's probably pretty safe that if he has a press
(15:50):
conference there have we reached out to John Tay Porter
to okay, we call for everybody. Let's bet on if
he no stop.
Speaker 6 (15:59):
That thing against his team was part of a parlay, though,
you gotta give him a little bit. I would have
thought they'd look that deep into that.
Speaker 2 (16:04):
By the way, don't do parlays now, that's really the
message that I would take away. Parlays tough to win,
enticing and by the way, the Dan Patrick Takes a
Gamble podcast later on today be up on the Danpatrick
dot com site.
Speaker 7 (16:21):
Yes, Marvin, do you think the Nuggets pr just told
everybody a Michael Porter junior don't ask him any questions
about his brother?
Speaker 3 (16:27):
Well, that's what I was wondering about.
Speaker 2 (16:29):
How does this affect Michael Porter junior, the third who
plays for the Nuggets and his brother is John J.
Speaker 6 (16:36):
Porter.
Speaker 3 (16:37):
I mean, what what did he know?
Speaker 2 (16:40):
I mean, you got to ask the question, Michael, were
you aware that your brother was gambling?
Speaker 6 (16:46):
What brother?
Speaker 3 (16:49):
He talked basketball? He's dead to me, I'd.
Speaker 4 (16:51):
Rather talk about my back injuries. Yes, I got a
real quick question on this. I'll save it, say, ain't it?
Speaker 2 (16:58):
Yeah, because when we come back I got to talk
about the you know, the Patriot Way apparently was way
wilder and crazier than we thought, because you're hearing now
these stories that are coming out about Bill Belichick and
his relationship with Robert Kraft. Did Robert Kraft sabotage Bill's
opportunity to coach the Falcons. We'll have that for you
(17:19):
coming up as well. Take a break, just getting started.

Speaker 4 (18:14):
Going quickly back to Johntay Porter, the player suspended from
the rafters and his brothers, Michael Porter and a lot
of people on social media and other places are assuming
Michael Porter had to be aware what his brother was
doing the past year, et cetera, et cetera. Is that
unfair to Michael Porter? You have what three or four brothers?
Speaker 3 (18:31):
Uh? Last I looked, I have three.
Speaker 4 (18:34):
Debec saying if one of your brothers did something that
you would have had to know that. That's not It's
almost unfair to Michael Porter that he has to answer
for this.
Speaker 2 (18:41):
It's not fair to him. But his brother put him
in this position. But if people assume he was aware
of his brother's dealings, is that unfair? Yeah, but his
brother put him in this position. I can't blame the
Reporters or anybody else who's gonna look at this and speculate.
(19:03):
You know, Michael Porter Junior can blame his brother because
he's the reason why they're going to ask you these questions.
I think it's fair game. Unfortunately, it's fair game, all right.
You know, the more we get removed from Bill Belichick
and the Patriots, Tom Brady and the Patriots. It feels
like the more stories that we're now hearing. And I
(19:25):
saw the headline. ESPN had a bombshell article that came
out yesterday that Robert Kraft was quote allegedly a big
part of why the Falcons passed on hiring Bill Belichick.
Speaker 3 (19:40):
We thought it was a foregone conclusion.
Speaker 2 (19:42):
You're the Falcons bring in the greatest coach of all time,
and they decided that they were going to pass. Now,
the article on the Mothership says, in a conversation with
Arthur Blank, he's the owner of the Falcons. Robert Kraft
delivered a stark assessment of Belichick's character to a source
who spoke to two people, a close Craft friend and
(20:05):
a longtime Belichick confidante. The source quoted that Belichick sources
saying Robert Kraft called up Arthur Blank to warn him
not to trust Bill. That account was backed up by
the source. That's a close Robert Craft friend. All right,
let's assume that's true. Robert Craft and Arthur Blank are
(20:28):
really good friends, close friends.
Speaker 3 (20:30):
But here's the tricky part. Let's say Arthur.
Speaker 2 (20:34):
Blank reaches out to Robert Craft, Hey, we're thinking of
hiring Bill Robert Craft is his allegiance is to his friend,
not Bill Belichick. But how is it that if these
two people speak, that it somehow gets out and it
gets into the hands of reporters from the ESPN. If
(20:58):
there's only two people involved in the commonnsation, unless you
know everybody's listening in, how did this get out? Craft
talks to Arthur Blank and says, hey, I wouldn't trust Bill.
Speaker 3 (21:12):
Okay, anything else to add.
Speaker 2 (21:16):
Blah blah blah blah blah, Okay, thank you, thank you, Robert.
And now I don't know if you need to say,
don't tell anybody. But there's two people here. Was it
a group of people with the Patriots and a group
of people with the Falcons. I don't think it's a
conference call? Yah seton Well, it seems it would seem
(21:37):
obvious to me then that if there was one side
that leaked it, it would be the Arthur Blank side. Yeah, right,
I mean they say, hey, how come you're not hiring
Bill Belichick? Craft told me not to trust him. On
One Falcon source told ESPN that Arthur Blank likes coaches
who feel part of a family. That source indicated Arthur
(21:58):
Blank realized it would never be that way with Bill Belichick.
According to ESPN, Belichick believe the Falcons gig was quote
his up through a few hours before Arthur Blank made
a different decision. They hired Raheem Morris, and Arthur Blank
(22:22):
said that he was the right guy for us, right
fit for us going forward. So Belichick's seventy two. He
just signed up to work with Pat McAfee and I
think it's a temporary job through the draft. I don't
know if it's any longer than that, but making regular
appearances with Pat McAfee, and then, you know, a source
(22:46):
said that Belichick told some friends that there were a
couple of jobs he would be interested in, the Giant's job,
the Cowboys job, at the Eagles job. I thought he
was getting the Eagles job when the Falcons you know,
moved on on. I do think that they came close
to maybe bringing Bill in. They decided they were going
(23:08):
to stand patent. But I think that that owner that
GM as aggressive as they are, and that maybe they
had Belichick on speed Dom. It really feels that way,
and I don't have any confirmation on that other than
at the time it felt like that that was a
real story that they were really considering making a coaching change.
(23:33):
Now they ended up getting rid of assistant coaches, but
you keep the head coach. But Belichick was there and waiting,
and this is a team that's ready to win. You know,
Bill sees the Falcons as one of those teams that's
right there in front of us, and we may not
realize that they're ready to win.
Speaker 6 (23:49):
Now.
Speaker 2 (23:50):
It's sort of like when Brady went to the Buccaneers,
he realized what maybe we didn't realize that team was
a quarterback away from being a Super Bowl contender. Also,
I guess the relationship with Belichick, you know it was
over at the beginning of the season, that this was
something that was told to Tom Brady's dad that you
(24:13):
know that Craft was ready to move on from him,
apologized to Brady's dad for the way Bill treated Tom
for ten years from twenty ten on the Patriot Way
way crazier. It's kind of wild. But Belichick's got a
(24:33):
gig though with Pat McAfee, and he's going to be
kind of summing up the draft. Do we have some
of Bill Belichick's analysis there?
Speaker 8 (24:43):
Okay, the biggest newsmakers here, quietly are the agents. Nobody
wants their player to get picked higher than them. So
a lot of the information I think that comes to
the media about who's going to draft too, how high
they're going to go, is you know, a lot of
media driven.
Speaker 3 (24:58):
So you know, when the agent here is.
Speaker 8 (25:00):
You know, my player could go anywhere from the second
or the third round. You add one to that and say, well,
these gms and these teams are talking about taking my
guy in the first round. I've never told an agent.
I never told an agent we're going to take your
guy in this round. We're going to take your guy
with this, you know, with the twenty seventh pick or
the thirty first pick or whatever pick it is we have.
(25:20):
I don't think there's too many teams that do that,
but I think the agents will say, hey, my guy's
going to go at thirty one to this team. My
team guy's going to go at seventeen to that team.
That type of thing, and then that just generates interest
in their players.
Speaker 2 (25:32):
Wow, that should engage Bill Belichick, and that's why I
think he'll do well. Now you have a different volume
level with McAfee.
Speaker 3 (25:42):
But the fake laugh though, you know that, come on,
come on.
Speaker 4 (25:48):
And then we found Tom Brady. We found time and
Matthew Slater is the best return specialty. Yeah, you're right,
it's very engaged Bill Belichick.
Speaker 3 (26:05):
He's glib.
Speaker 6 (26:06):
He was joking around.
Speaker 3 (26:06):
It was forty six seconds of Bill just riffing.
Speaker 4 (26:09):
I think we found about the reason. You know, if
during those press conferences over the years he was paid
quarter million dollars per appearance, he would have been a
lot more engaged.
Speaker 3 (26:17):
Yeah, I love that.
Speaker 2 (26:27):
Seating jumped out of his chair when you know the
laughter came in.
Speaker 3 (26:31):
It was like startling.
Speaker 4 (26:32):
It was a tough decision to get in a lawyer
on the lay.
Speaker 2 (26:35):
I mean, you got these gms saying they might take
one guy and then they take a different guy.
Speaker 3 (26:38):
Yeah, oh my god.
Speaker 4 (26:43):
Oh you gotta watch tape on these Division three guys.
But they could really come out of nowhere.
Speaker 2 (26:48):
No congratulations to McAfee getting getting Bill Belichick out all
the way to the bank. Yeah, keep riding that wave, Fellas.
More power to you. I got no problems with it.
Spending money heck yeah, wisely Yeah, wisely, he's spent it
on Aaron Rodgers, He's spent it on Nick Saban, Bill Belichick.
Speaker 4 (27:08):
Yeah, Paul Caitlin Clark's next up. She lives in an Annapolis.
She could do in studio appearances and she'll be getting
paid pretty.
Speaker 6 (27:14):
Soon, you can.
Speaker 2 (27:15):
Yeah, thank yeah, I could see him paying her a
million dollars.
Speaker 3 (27:21):
I mean, why not.
Speaker 4 (27:22):
She was on there yesterday.
Speaker 6 (27:23):
Oh she was.
Speaker 4 (27:23):
She made a first appearance after doing It's right down
the street.
Speaker 2 (27:26):
Okay, yeah, I saw where she's signing a Nike deal.
Now it's eight figures, so that could be ten million
or ninety nine million, right, correct, that's the eight figures
and she's gonna have her own shoe, which to me,
I mean it's genius to be able to sign her
up because think of all of the girls and women
(27:48):
out there who loved Caitlin Clark going to continue to
follow her in the WNBA, and they're gonna want to
have her shoe. But the Sabrina Iro and Escue, that's
the shoe that's been the shoe the last couple of years.
She plays for New York. But Caitlyn Clark, she could
have a line of shoes that could you know, be
(28:08):
workout shoes, basketball shoes, casual shoes, yes, Marton and.
Speaker 7 (28:13):
When they come out the Iowa Women and the Iowa
men are gonna have Kaitlin Clark's shoes. And the colorway
is perfect. It's got the navy blue, the yellow, and
the red for the fever. I mean, okay, they're gonna
have a great commercial.
Speaker 3 (28:25):
Yeah, Nike.
Speaker 6 (28:25):
He's gonna do it up with Kayln.
Speaker 2 (28:26):
Yes, but think of all of the players now, men
and women, who would be moving merchandise, you know, and
you've got a whole new audience here. The women will
be buying these shoes. Your your your wife is gonna
be buying your daughter's shoes. But the Sabrina ironesque shoe,
(28:49):
that's been the hot one the last couple of years.
But yeah, she's signed her deal with the Nike. I
know people have come out and said, wow, it's embarrassing
the disparity between salaries with the NBA and the WNBA,
And okay, well, if you're bothered by it, then buy
season tickets, invest in the WNBA, like this is a business.
(29:12):
The NBA subsidizes the WNBA. Yes, there's a disparity there,
but there's a reason for that. The draw how many
people watch, how important it is, But the NBA subsidizes
the WNBA. Without the NBA, you don't have the WNBA. Yes,
I mean there's twelve teams. Yeah, yeah, there's twelve teams.
(29:35):
It's a growing league. They finally have a well not finally,
but they have a different caliber of star right now.
Then they've had go into the league and hopefully they
capitalize on it to the point where you'll have a
player like Juju Watkins at USC who would leave college
to go to the WNBA because the money would be great.
(29:55):
I mean, that might be what Caitlin Clark brings to
the WNBA. She's gonna bring recognition. Maybe salaries go up,
but they collectively bargained these salaries, and you know, the
HIGHUS paid player is like two hundred and fifty thousand dollars.
That's why players go overseas and play now. Might not
seem fair, but it's just, you know, it's the market.
(30:19):
It's supply and demand. And maybe Caitlin Clark. Oh, by
the way, I got this DraftKings sent me this over
under points per game in her rookie season, Caitlyn Clark,
how about I go around the room well over under
points Kitlin Clark rookie season.
Speaker 3 (30:41):
Paul numbers the over.
Speaker 4 (30:43):
Under our flooring average eighteen nine all right, god nineteen four,
all right, seat O'Connor.
Speaker 3 (30:53):
Twenty six to five. Haters Marvin thirteen eight. I've seen
eight hater dang hato. Wow, have you been drinking hater
aid today? This is page page buckets love.
Speaker 2 (31:10):
I see what you're doing your your team page Beckers.
Speaker 3 (31:14):
It's true blue? Yeah? What yeah? What do you mean
you're true blue? Yes? Okay, now I did say that.
Speaker 2 (31:22):
I think she comes into the league and gratiates herself
with her teammates and passes first be over under for
Caitlyn Clark rookie season according to DraftKings twenty and a half,
twenty and a half, I might go under slightly. I
(31:46):
might go nineteen three.
Speaker 4 (31:49):
Yes, Paul, here's a question. She just played Kitlyn Clark
an entire college season where she was the focal point.
She's gonna get almost zero rest. I think she has
three days off and then she starts training camp. Is
there any chance she's more prepared to jump out of
the gate and do great or could she be tired
from the previous season and maybe a slower start.
Speaker 2 (32:09):
Which would you lean? I think it's both. I think
she could be tired, but I think she's prepared. But
you know, we keep hearing, hey, wait till she gets
to the league. She's going to find out you're going
against grown women here, which is true. But I think
that she's such a great passer that that's how she starts.
She might have games where she gets fifteen and you know,
(32:32):
twelve something like that, but you know the over under
is twenty and a half points.
Speaker 3 (32:37):
Yes, Marvin, and also Caitlin Clark.
Speaker 7 (32:40):
If you're USA basketball, do you send her to the
Olympics and just take whoever else off and then you
release the shoe right before the Olympics and she's on
a world stage with her new signature shoe.
Speaker 2 (32:52):
I don't know if they have a when they have
a uniform. I don't know if they have uniformed shoes
that everybody has to wear.
Speaker 7 (32:58):
No, no, no, everybody wears their signature shoes. But in
Olympic colors. If you go to the Olympics, all those
NBA players, yeah they have okay, their shoes on in
USA in red, white and blue. Okay, Caitlyn Clark Nike.
But the Olympics are in August. The season ends in September, correct.
Speaker 6 (33:17):
Yeah, that means some of them won't be playing the
full season.
Speaker 3 (33:21):
Yeah, I haven't heard.
Speaker 2 (33:24):
Does she want to play in the I'm sure she
wants to play, but I don't know if you go
in right away to the WNBA and then say, hey,
by the way, I'm going to play for the Olympics.
Speaker 4 (33:32):
Yes, Paul, I had the WNBA schedule this year. They
built in Olympic break. So the WNBA All Star Game
is July twentieth, Then the season pauses for I have
twenty days July twenty first through August fourteenth, the entire Olympics. Okay,
there's an Olympic break, and then the league picks back
up again, So the league will go later this year.
(33:53):
So from what I'm looking right now, Caitlin Clark and
none of the other players would miss a WNBA game
by joining them.
Speaker 2 (33:59):
Okay, yeah, smart, Yeah I could see. But you want
to wait to the Olympics to unveil the new shoe.
I would imagine that you've already got this shoe designed. Yes, Marvin, I.
Speaker 7 (34:10):
Just made an Olympic like in a new color way. Oh,
like you know what, there's the red, white, and blue
version for the Olympics.
Speaker 3 (34:16):
A gold one for the Olympics, Oh well, Iowa gold
see what it did.
Speaker 10 (34:23):
Bloop bloop bloop.
Speaker 2 (34:23):
All right, let me take a break, got phone calls
coming up. Settle on our poll question and our play

This is the play of the day. Check this outof

Speaker 4 (35:02):
Joins NHL Royal Team one hundred assists.
Speaker 2 (35:10):
That's courtesy of TNT Play of the Day. Kutcharoff one
hundred assists this season, so he's the fifth player in
NHL history to record one hundred assists in a singular season.
The NHL went thirty two years without a one hundred
assist player before having two this year, Kucharoff and Connor McDavid.
(35:33):
He joins Mary Olemeeux, Bobby Orr, and Wayne Gretzky. That's
some pretty select company along with Connor McDavid. That is

The only place to collect them all pen any trading cards,
the official trading cards of the Dan Patrick Show, Instant classics,
autograph cards, memorabilia cards, rare inserts and more. Starter continue
collection now America dot Net just had a source who
sent me a note that we were talking about John
tay Porter in the press release the NBA sent out
(36:10):
about the Toronto Raptor player that it doesn't say a
lifetime ban in the press release, but a lot of
reporters have said it's a lifetime ban, and we were
looking for any kind of clarification from the NBA. I
heard from a source who should know this says there
is no consideration for reinstatement for johntay Porter, so that
(36:35):
would be a lifetime ban, no consideration. A lot of
times there are lifetime bans or bands and then you
can be up for consideration a couple of years later,
which has happened with the NBA. Doesn't feel like that's
the case because that was for drugs and alcohol. This
is for gambling and gambling and betting against your team
(36:56):
in a parlang. All right, some phone calls in here
Lucas and Texas. Hi, Luke, what's on your mind today?
Hey Dan, Good morning, good morning.
Speaker 10 (37:06):
One one quick thing. I want to talk about your
death in just a moment like everyone else. But a
crazy little addition to that, Nikita Kucherov stat is everyone
else did that one time, and Wayne Gretzky did it
eleven times, which is just crazy when you think about it.
Speaker 3 (37:21):
I know, but no, but no.
Speaker 10 (37:23):
So like most of Dan Nation, I've been thinking about
how I'm going to respond to react to the news
of your your passing whenever that happens, and I think
in trying to keep with the spirit of your sense
of humor, the kind that makes other people look at
you and say, what the heck is wrong with you?
I think there are three appropriate responses to hearing the
news one day down the road that Dan Patrick is
(37:45):
no longer with us. I think the first one is
to say, well, I had the under great I think
the I think the second one is to say, you know,
we got to keep the content go and say how
does Lebron feel about this? Or how is this going
to affect the Cowboys? And I think the third one
is to say, you know what, he went as long
as he could, but that undertaking the Scott finally hit
(38:06):
him with the old.
Speaker 3 (38:08):
Alright, how about that, Lucas.
Speaker 2 (38:10):
Yeah, because that's the only way other shows are going
to mention that I've died. ESPN's gonna go, oh, Dan
Patrick died former Sports Center anchor. Wonder what Lebron thinks
about that? You know what, what about Dak Prescott? What
do you think about that? Then I can probably get
incorporated into.
Speaker 3 (38:30):
The other shows.
Speaker 6 (38:31):
Yes, more, they're going to give you an essay.
Speaker 3 (38:34):
You think I get like a come on a Jeremy Schapler.
Speaker 6 (38:37):
Come on, you don't play like, oh I think I
was kind of a big deal.
Speaker 2 (38:42):
No, come on, Okay, how long do you think the
essay is?
Speaker 6 (38:46):
Over?
Speaker 3 (38:47):
Under? Yeah? Over under? Two minutes under?
Speaker 6 (38:53):
Is it?
Speaker 4 (38:53):
Are you talking Sports Center? Yeah, it's pretty tight on that.
If it's Van Pelt's Sports Center, you may get the
one Big Thing nice.
Speaker 3 (39:00):
I could book that. Yeah, when are you booking it?
Speaker 4 (39:05):
I would say I booked that Van Pelt would do
a one big thing out?
Speaker 3 (39:08):
Okay, Yes, I think when.
Speaker 5 (39:09):
They pause and fads are black after sharing that information,
they're gonna wait at least three more.
Speaker 6 (39:13):
Seconds than they normally would. Okay, as opposed to like
a coach or athlete that's passed okay.
Speaker 2 (39:17):
Thank you ton Uh John in Vegas? Hey John, what's
on your mind today?
Speaker 11 (39:24):
Daniel Patrick Junior the third honor to speak with you.
I'm wondering if you or the Dans know what you
want your epitaph to be on your tombstone.
Speaker 2 (39:37):
I haven't given that much thought to it, but thank
you John. Have you guys thought about what you want
your heads? You know, a gravestone to say yes mark.
Speaker 6 (39:48):
His hands weren't as small as you can.
Speaker 2 (39:53):
Yes they are. Wait is that a real level? Is
that like a McAfee lamb?
Speaker 6 (40:00):
No, because my hilarious.
Speaker 4 (40:03):
Do people put comedic lines on their on their tombstones?
Speaker 2 (40:06):
Do that?
Speaker 3 (40:07):
Sure?
Speaker 10 (40:08):
Yeah?
Speaker 3 (40:08):
It sounds like they used to back in the day. Yeah, yeah,
used to be funny.
Speaker 4 (40:12):
Yes, So you could do like Broclonation just died.
Speaker 6 (40:15):
You could do that. It's a little tribute to my house.
Speaker 3 (40:18):
Instead of let's ride, it's just died. Yeah, that's not that.
Speaker 2 (40:23):
The logo with the d with the horse seat and
you got something you're going to say on your headstone?
Speaker 3 (40:30):
Gota admit I've never thought of it.
Speaker 2 (40:32):
Yeah. Well I've always been more of a cremated kind
of guy. Anyway, who you're gonna be like OJ and
get cream.
Speaker 3 (40:37):
I think I'm gonna get cremated. Yeah.
Speaker 2 (40:40):
Well, I was thinking that maybe if I got cremated,
I could hand out little like vials of my ashes,
and you know, it could be like a remembrance. You know,
I don't know how many I could get out of
my body, but that'd be kind of nice that you
I gave you a piece, you know, we put it
up on the website, and then if you first come,
first serve, if you signed up for the DP show newsletter,
(41:01):
then you're able to get just a little piece of me.
Speaker 3 (41:04):
What do you think I've been up the copy right now?
A piece of ash? Yeah?
Speaker 2 (41:11):
Well, okay, all right, more phone calls coming up, More
details on John Tay Porter being banned for life, and
good Buddy Adam Lefko the worst defensive players in the
NBA
