Speaker 1 (00:00):
You are listening to the Dan Patrick Show on Fox
Sports Radio Final Hour on this Monday.

Speaker 2 (00:06):
What a great weekend. A lot of things that we've
recapped so far, first two hours of the program. Coming
up in about twenty minutes, the returner Reggie Miller Tonight,
Pacers next game one, Timberwolf's Nuggets Game two, the Timberwolf's
surprising the Nuggets as and goes for forty three. And
he had this to say about facing the best teams.

Speaker 3 (00:30):
Going against the best player in the world is always fun,
and going against the best team in the world is
always fun. And like I said, man, I will coach.
They're disciplined, They're not going to beat themselves. And I
feel like our coaches stabb did a great job of
game planning throughout the three four days that we had,
and our guys came out and competed tonight.

Speaker 2 (00:47):
Yeah they did. Now five and a half point Underdog's
Game two. Coming up tonight, Mystic Dan wins the Derby.
Not sure if Mystic Dan is going to go to
the Preakness. A wild Tom Brady roast, but we've recap
some of that. Drew Bledsoe part of the day is
they're roasting his former teammate. He joined this last hour
mAbs close out the Clippers, the Cabs close out the

(01:09):
mAbs or magic And we were wondering at the end
of last Hour, could you make Lebron James the player coach?
Now I don't know. I mean, we're kind of kidding
because you might say, well, inn'ty already, but can you
pay him? Let's say they were trying to circumvent the
salary cap a little bit, give him a little bit

(01:29):
more freedom. What if you said, hey, Lebron, we're going
to pay you twenty million dollars to be our head coach.
Can you take that salary away from his player salary? Therefore,
that frees up twenty million dollars. I'm sure the NBA
has a rule preventing this bolly.

Speaker 4 (01:44):
After the salary cap was instituted in eighty forty five,
the NBA has prohibited teams from employing a player coach.
The ruling was established to avoid the possibility of the
team would circumvent the salary cap by signing a player
as a player coach. Coach of salaries are not counted
under the cap.

Speaker 2 (02:00):
This is the third time in six off seasons the
Lakers will be in the market for a new head coach.
The coach will be the seventh since twenty eleven.

Speaker 5 (02:14):
Stat of the Day, That of the day. Here comes
the stat of the dayyy stat of the day. Stat
of the Day.

Speaker 2 (02:25):
Here comes the stat of the day. The stat of
the Day brought to you by the Pendian America, the
official Trading Cards to the Dan Patrick Show. Why would
you want this job? I know it's a great title
to have, but it's a championship or bust mentality and
if you don't win the title, then you had a
bad year. And Darvinham did some good things, but you

(02:48):
know he did bad things as well with benching some players,
rotations like you know, we've heard all of this, but
you don't give anybody any time. And that's part of
the problem. That's you are going to have your seventh
head coach since twenty eleven. That shouldn't happen. I mean
San Antonio's had their coach, Miami's had their coach. Like

(03:09):
there's certain places that designations that you should find your coach,
be able to find your coach and keep your coach. Also,
here's something that I did not realize. The NBA has
tracking data. The Lakers led the league with one thousand,
seven hundred and fifty three allowed wide open threes this season,
So I got some issues with perimeter defense there. Obviously,

(03:32):
there's a lot of things. The Lakers just aren't championship caliber.
But if you're expecting a coach to come in and
make them championship caliber, you're going to be waiting a
long time. You can bring in Mike Budenholzer and he
might be an upgrade over Darvinham Probably is is jj Reddick?
Are they going to listen to a young voice even
though it's a voice that played in the NBA. You're

(03:55):
trying to find your coach. You're trying to find your
Greg Popovich or Eric Spolstro who whoever it might be.
And it's just not that easy because this is a
team that their best player is forty AD had a
really good year. But even when Lebron had a good
year health wise, AD had a really good year health wise.

(04:15):
And what do they get what forty seven wins, which
is a good year, and their scoring was one of
their better years. But the West is stacked. I mean,
look at Minnesota, and I remember I was watching ESPN,
and they said, well, how would the Lakers fare against
the other teams in the West, And I go, well,
that really doesn't matter because they're facing Denver. If you

(04:37):
can't get by Denver, it doesn't matter. Hey you beat
Oklahoma City, but you lost to Denver. Hey you beat
the Clippers, but you lost to Denver. You measure yourself.
NFL teams measure themselves against the Patriots. Now they measure
themselves against Kansas City. That's what happens when you have
a great team, you measure yourself. So how do the

(04:59):
Lakers stack up with Denver? They don't. And this isn't
a great Denver team like I thought last year was
because they had more depth. But are you better than OKC? Maybe?
Are you better than Minnesota?

Speaker 5 (05:14):
No?

Speaker 2 (05:15):
Like, there's probably four teams, three or four teams. Are
they better than Dallas?

Speaker 6 (05:19):
No?

Speaker 2 (05:20):
I mean, so you're trying to expect an end result
that's not realistic no matter who your head coach is.
So Darvinham takes the bullet and you fire him after
a couple of seasons. Now, what what are you building
on here? Are you building on ad? Because you can't
build on Lebron? I mean if Lebron is putting up

(05:41):
the numbers in complementary numbers to AD, and AD plays
seventy seven games or something, Okay, then you got a
chance here. Yeah, it feels like.

Speaker 7 (05:51):
Ad and Lebron are going to retire at the same time,
where it's like you were supposed to be handing the
passing the torch from one to the other, and instead
I think are going to kind of come and go
at the same time.

Speaker 4 (06:02):
Yes, Pauline, it also feels like the Lakers head coaching
job is not head coach. It's you're the guy running
practice and doing the press conferences. You're really just holding serve.
It doesn't feel like you have any power to make decisions,
power to do anything in the front office. Yeah, but
he got blamed, right, But Darvin ham won more games
this year than last year. I think they won up

(06:22):
four wins. Anytime you win more games. They were in
the Western Conference finals a year ago. This is not
a non competitive franchise. But you fire him because of
what you're going to give JJ Reddick, who hasn't coached
a basketball game a job. What power is going to
have in that building?

Speaker 6 (06:37):
And it could be anyway not JJ redd it could
be anybody.

Speaker 2 (06:39):
To hire, and I don't know they're talking. There's like
seven or eight candidates there. And you know, Bodenholzer there,
JJ Reddick, who's there? Ty Loo's getting a contract extension
to stay with the Clippers, Jason Kidd a contract extension
to stay with the MAVs. I mean those It feels
like in other years or another generation, you're going to go.

(07:00):
Of course you're going to be interested in the Lakers job,
but you're not now because you have to win a
championship and if you don't, then it's a disappointment. Like
the Dodgers, I get they should be the favorites, they
should win a championship. The Lakers, I didn't feel that.
I thought they're barely getting into the first round into
the playoffs and they're going up against a team that

(07:22):
they got swept by last year. And what kind of
improvements did you make your depth? They weren't healthy, And
certainly the one guy didn't think would play over seventy
five games is Anthony Davis. You got all of that
and really nothing to show for it. D'Angelo Russell. You
want to keep him, I wouldn't, But trying to put

(07:44):
all the pieces together like Lebron the way Lebron used
to be. Now I can put the pieces in. Lebron
is a different player now, you know, he falls in
love with the three. You know, probably not going to
the hoop the way he once did. But if ad
he stays healthy, everybody becomes better. He can be great
at both ends of the floor. I like Reeves. I

(08:06):
just don't want Reeves to be my third option. Ruey Hachamura,
Like you'll go, hey, you see Ruy and then you
don't see him again for like seven games. Trying to
get some consistency Vanderbilt. I mean, they brought in pieces
and then you go, it just didn't work. Now, what
are you going to do in the offseason? Check this?
If this is correct? Pauli. Lebron has had nine head

(08:27):
coaches in his career. Eight have been fired. So the
one who hasn't been fired is Eric Spolster.

Speaker 5 (08:37):
Who.

Speaker 8 (08:39):
Stand of a day, start of a day, statuta day,
scant out a day. This is the STU of the day.

Speaker 4 (08:52):
Yes, Paulie, Paul Silas, Brenham Alone, Mike Brown, David Blett,
Tyron lew Luke, Walton, Frank Vogel, Darwin Ham all fired.

Speaker 2 (08:59):
Yeah, yeah, he was like Spolster was the guy at
the time. It was like what, oh, I know.

Speaker 7 (09:05):
You're handing over like this a Lamborghini, a Ferrari and
a Porsche to this dude to a student driver to
what yeah to a student driver?

Speaker 2 (09:12):
Perfect? Yeah. And Lebron I don't think embraced Eric Spolstra.
Remember that time out where he bumped him like, oh boy,
and Eric Spolszer is going to the Hall of Fame.

Speaker 5 (09:23):
Yeah.

Speaker 7 (09:23):
More.

Speaker 9 (09:24):
And if it wasn't for pat Riley telling them to
pipe down, yeah, it would have been nine for nine
as far as head coaches.

Speaker 2 (09:29):
Yeah yeah, Paulie I said this a few.

Speaker 4 (09:32):
Years ago with the New York Giants in New York Jets,
that they should be allowed to merge Clippers and Lakers.

Speaker 6 (09:37):
They merged together.

Speaker 4 (09:39):
How can you not everyone could play forty games, everyone
stays healthy.

Speaker 6 (09:42):
It's unlikely that.

Speaker 2 (09:43):
Yeah, probably won't. I got an early NBA Finals MVP
odds in case you're wondering this, according to DraftKings, Paul,
I'll start with you the early NBA Finals MVP odds.

Speaker 6 (09:56):
I think it's still Nicole Jokis.

Speaker 10 (09:58):
Okay, I'm gonna jump on the Anthony Edwards bandlin that.

Speaker 2 (10:04):
How about you, Marvin, Jason Tatum, it is Jason Tatum,
then it's the Joker. Anthony ed it was you got
it right again. I was gonna say Tatum, then Shay Gilgess, Alexander.
So those are the early MVP. Hods at Jason Taylor,
PACER's getting six tonight, and Brown. It was going to say,

(10:27):
thank you, he's probably third on them. Yeah, man, you're incredible.
The Wolves getting five and a half against the Nuggets.
Anthony Edwards over under tonight is twenty eight and a half.
They have the over under for the Joker, points, rebounds
and assists. Okay, let me ask you that one there points,
rebounds and assists for the Joker. Total number, Paulie over

(10:49):
under forty six, Marvin.

Speaker 7 (10:57):
Fifty three and a half, Seaton fifty one and a half.
I would have gotten everything if you went to me first.
I would have gotten every single.

Speaker 2 (11:07):
Your question today, right. I know. That's why I'm going
to go to you right now. Jalen Brunson over under
tonight twenty seven and a half. It's just points. Todd
twenty nine and a half, Marvin.

Speaker 9 (11:25):
Thirty one and a half todd Or poll thirty and
a half thirty four four and a half.

Speaker 2 (11:30):
W did you pressure see? Did you get that would
have gone on? My first guess? I knew I was
a little low. It's trying to be conservative. What's a
pole question? Knuckle ahead for the final hour?

Speaker 7 (11:44):
Oh man, we got a bunch of poll questions up
there today, A many.

Speaker 11 (11:48):
Many Pokay, did Tom Brady admit to deflate gate? Sixty
three percent say yes? Who do you want to advance
from the east? Nicks running away with that one. Celtics
are doing very well. Uh and who do you want
to advance from the West? Not even close.

Speaker 7 (12:00):
Fifty percent have Timberwolves right after that, twenty one percent
the Nuggets. That's fun and the Tom Brady roast was
simply fabulous or not?

Speaker 2 (12:08):
For me? Fifty six have simply fabulous. Yeah. I thought
it was a lot of fun. But I don't know,
is there a strategy here to do more of these
live on Netflix? Because Sunday night, You know, it was
a good time frame there that you're able to watch
it now. It was three hours. But it was fun
well there, and you had big names up there, but

(12:29):
more importantly, you had Tom Brady up there, willing to
take all the slings and arrows there, and that's what
made it interesting, cringy fun. And I was invited to go,
but it would have been going out on a Sunday
and then have to come back today. And I just said,
or take a red eye, and I didn't want to

(12:51):
do that. I wasn't going to be on the day,
so I wouldn't going to be roasting. I would never
want to do that.

Speaker 7 (12:55):
Yes, it would have been kind of awesome and kind
of awful if we had been watching last night and hurt.

Speaker 2 (13:02):
So I heard Dan Patrick is here, Dan, where are you?
Where are you? Oh crap? Oh no, yeah, And we
don't need we don't need that. Oh no, we don't
we don't need that. Hey, so Dan Patrick, Kay, hey, Dan,
you got something to say about Tom Drew Bledsoe. He
was with us last hour and he was one of

(13:24):
the roasters and got off a really good line.

Speaker 12 (13:28):
Buddy. You know you have more rings than I do.
But I've experienced a couple of things that you will
never experience. Yep. The feeling of being the number one
overall draft pick in the NFL and a twenty eighth
wedding anniversary.

Speaker 5 (13:46):
It was yesterday.

Speaker 3 (13:50):
Damn.

Speaker 6 (13:50):
That's good.

Speaker 2 (13:52):
That's good. People are feeling sorry for Drew Bledsoe, Like, no,
you know, Tom ruined his career. I mean he still
got a hundred millillion dollar contract when he went to Buffalo,
and he had a pretty good career. Number one overall pick.
He's not Ryan leave. They make it seem like, you know,
he was a buzzt.

Speaker 6 (14:11):
Yeah, Paul, I think a lot of people forget in.

Speaker 4 (14:13):
Oh one would go on the way to the Super Bowl.
He had to fill in for Brady. He came in
through a touchdown pass.

Speaker 2 (14:19):
That was against the Steelers.

Speaker 4 (14:20):
Yeah, in a playoff game, or they don't go to
the super Yeah, yeah, it's almost.

Speaker 6 (14:24):
You know he didn't. He wasn't watching from the skybox
while Tom won it.

Speaker 2 (14:27):
By the way, JJ Watt says he'd come out of
retirement to play at the Texans absolutely needed it. I
I think that he was at a softball game, a
charity softball game. I think that's where you're like, hey,
if they need me, I'm there, kind of like, let
me just play to the crowd. No, no, he should

(14:48):
not do that. He said that to the head coach
Tamiko rans. Don't call unless you absolutely need it. But
if you ever do call, I'll be there. No no, no, no, no,
you're you're done. Just be a broadcaster and raise your sun.
You don't need to go back. He's had a lot
of injuries there. I don't think it's serious, but it

(15:12):
made some headlines there.

Speaker 5 (15:13):
Yeah.

Speaker 7 (15:14):
You know, funny thing about roasts is that they they
sort of scratch an itch for the worst part of
my soul. It's like people just saying horrible things to
each other about truly terrible things, just the worst, and
you watch and you're like, yes, say that awful thing
to him. This is hilarious.

Speaker 2 (15:36):
Can you believe they just said that, Like, yeah, you're right.
The guy his family is a mess.

Speaker 6 (15:41):
Say it.

Speaker 2 (15:42):
That's hilarious. There's nothing he could do to take it.
He's on cameras live. Yes, he did do that, say it.
It's terrible. It's terrible.

Speaker 9 (15:52):
Yes, But our show is kind of a roast the audience,
Like it is kind of a roast what we do
here on the show, especially with the audience, and they
kind of get us for Dead Dad's Club, like we
self roast.

Speaker 2 (16:04):
Yeah, it's fine, Yeah, yeah, I'm fine with that.

Speaker 6 (16:06):
Yeah, but we jab.

Speaker 4 (16:08):
We do light jabbing, continuous light jabbing. We don't ever
go for that overhand.

Speaker 2 (16:12):
Right, So like Floyd Mayweather, we're not going to knock
you out, you know, we're just gonna kind of.

Speaker 7 (16:16):
If anybody went for the juggular, he'd be like, dude,
what is your problem?

Speaker 2 (16:20):
What the hell's wrong with you? Yes? So dead, dads
are It's just a jab Yeah, okay, Yeah, I'm fine
with that. Take a break, Reggie Miller.

Speaker 7 (16:29):
You should really think about how I'm excluded from the club.
Have you guys ever thought about how hurtful it is
for me that you guys get to make all those
jokes and I'm father's still alive.

Speaker 4 (16:39):
A bad joke would be well, maybe that will change soon.
That would be going over the top. That would be
example of what you wouldn't say about.

Speaker 2 (16:46):
We take a break. Hey, here's how you'll join us soon. Dad,
it's just a joke.

Speaker 7 (16:54):
How about we take a break, David Janet, It's just
a joke.

Speaker 2 (16:57):
Red gi Aloisious Miller Junior, the third joins next.

Speaker 1 (17:00):

Speaker 2 (17:43):
He's mac Reggie Alawishus Miller Junior third. He was on
the call for Game one of the Nuggets and the Timberwolves,
and he's got Game two tonight and then he goes
to the garden coming up for Game two on Wednesday
with the Nicks and the Pacers. Reg great to see you.

Speaker 5 (18:01):
Oh was that MJ? Was that that my beloved? Yeah,
my beloved m J. What a way to be reunited.
He was Theodore and my dand nets to play a little,
you know, MJ.

Speaker 2 (18:18):
That's the MJ.

Speaker 5 (18:19):
You like? That is very true? Yes, that's the MJ
that I love. A door and can tolerate.

Speaker 2 (18:28):
Okay, could you see Michael Jordan doing what Tom Brady
did last night?

Speaker 5 (18:34):
Absolutely not, There's no way. There is no way that
j there's more of a mystique about MJ's. It's there's
no way for three hours people taking shots. I was
shocked when I when I first heard about it, and

(18:55):
then when I watched it last night, because really, what
a roast is about is your loved ones telling you
how they really feel about you and disguising them as jokes.
That's really what a roast is.

Speaker 2 (19:09):
So I was a roast with Michael Jordan, would you
take part?

Speaker 5 (19:16):
Uh? I guess I would be the Drew Bledsoe of
that roast, I assume, right, or Peyton Manning. I don't know.
I don't know. I don't know. I don't know if
I could be that close to him without, I tell you,
without me taking a swing out.

Speaker 2 (19:35):
All right, you were there for Game one with Anthony
Edwards going off? Who does his game remind you of?

Speaker 5 (19:43):
Look, I've heard the comparisons, and again you and I
were just talking about him, Jay, and you know how
I feel about him. Oh, there's not a lot of
love lost, but Michael Jordan is one of one, okay,
And I understand that we are all fascinated with trying

(20:06):
to find the next MJ. We tried to annoy Kobe,
We did Vince Carter, Dwayne Wade and all those guys.
There were similarities. Having said all that, I do see
some correlation between Anthony Edwards and Michael Jordan, the movement,

(20:28):
some of the shots, the fadeaways, how he approaches the
defensive side of things. But they're two different players. Again
at twenty two, and Anthony Edwards is still young. His
game is not fully polished yet. It's getting there and
it will get there. But Michael wasn't polished at twenty
two either. MJ looked like he was floating on air

(20:52):
when we watched him play. Anthony Edwards is getting there.
I love the way he attacks the basket. There's that
similarity with with MJ. But I'm not gonna jump on
the van wagon and say he's the next Jordan because
we tried to do that with Kobe, and Kobe was
probably the closest thing I would put his game. I

(21:12):
would say he is more like Dwayne Wade, but with
a jump shot. But with a jump shot because he's
not as he's not as tall as Mike. Mike was
about six five sixty six. Anthony Edwards is about six four,
but he is more in that flash category with but

(21:33):
with a better jump shot.

Speaker 2 (21:35):
How surprised would you be if Minnesota wins this series?

Speaker 5 (21:40):
Varying. I think a lot of people are counting out
the champs. I know they're down one game. They were
never down one game last year in their championship run.
But uh, you know, Michael Malone is a heck of
a coach, and I know he didn't finish in the
top three in the uh you know, coaching finalists. But

(22:00):
there will be adjustments made, and you just because you
lose a home game, you just can't count them out.
I know that Anthony Andrews was a lot Would I
be surprised? Yes, I mean, but it is a two
to three matchup, Let's not forget that. But Minnesota, they
haven't been in these uncharted waters before Denver hats So

(22:25):
it's one game and is this their best shot? We
will see? I still see this going six or seven game.
You know it's hard to pick him right now. I
still would you know, there's still the champs and you
don't win x amount of games have the number two
seed without being successful on the road Theodore as you know.
So they can go up to Minnesota and reclaim home court.

(22:49):
But tonight is a huge game. Now they go down
Love too, that's a different story.

Speaker 2 (22:54):
If the choker wins another title and another MVP, now
now we're going into a different category he's in.

Speaker 5 (23:00):
He's in a different room.

Speaker 2 (23:01):
Yeah, Like now now he's one of the all time greats.

Speaker 5 (23:05):
Yeah, I think if he wins his third MVP in
four years. Obviously, if he wins a championship and he'll
probably win finals MVP, he's in a different door of
the Hall of Fame and the greatest players and mentioning
in that way because we view him a little bit different.

(23:25):
In terms of sinners, he's on the short list. You know,
You've got Will Shaq, Kareem Hakeem, and then I mean
you could put Moses Malone maybe in there. But he's
gonna be in a very short list if he can
win another title, finals MVP and obviously a regular season feat.

Speaker 2 (23:47):
This will be three and four years and then all
of a sudden, you know, you start to creep in
a lot of times we don't let the modern player
creep into our our heroes, you know, like, well, he's
not Larry Bird or he's not Magic Curry's not you know,
whoever you want to throw out there, but he is
right in front of us, right before us, just like
Steph Curry. Like they're moving, you know, closer to the

(24:11):
top ten than maybe we want to admit.

Speaker 5 (24:14):
And I think we need to appreciate that. I think
that's why we get into this who's the goat between
Lebron and MJ. You know, you hear it all the time,
and it's not fair. How about just appreciate the guys
that are here right now, Kevin Durant, Stephen Curry and
obviously Lebron, because those guys are on the clock, and

(24:34):
those guys are home right now because they're on the
clock for other time. I'm saying it catches up to
all of us. They are all fantastic players, but they're
home right now. And you see these young guns like
in Anthony Edwards, Shay Gilgis, Alexander and these young teams,
they're bawling out and they're taking names and they're making

(24:58):
their names off of these all time. I'm mount Rushmore
type players.

Speaker 2 (25:03):
I'm wondering, is the Laker job, and you know, an
enviable position like being the head coach of the Lakers
used to mean something. Does it still mean something? Is
it a desirable job?

Speaker 5 (25:16):
It's only desirable because you're playing in front of celebrities
and they're tied with the Boston Celtics for the most championships.
But it's a tough gig. It's almost like how I
guess the Yankee job was back in the Billy Martin days.
You and I remember how the turnover was there for

(25:37):
a long time being a manager of the New York Yankees,
because you were expected to win every season. And the
Lakers are in that category with along with the Boston Celtics.
They're expected to compete only for championship. And it's not
It wasn't fair to Frank Vogel, it wasn't fair to
Darvin Ham. To me, I really felt that those two

(25:58):
were the scapegoats. You still had Lebron, you still had Ad.
You want a Bubble championship with Frank Vogel, but for
some reason they can't coach. And I think you need
to look at who put these things together. If you're
going to clean house with the coach. You've got to
look at the very top as well.

Speaker 2 (26:18):
Gms don't fire gms.

Speaker 5 (26:21):
Well, yeah, to look at who put this roster together.
I'm not saying it's all on Rob Polinka, but he
made the deals.

Speaker 2 (26:31):
Yeah. Reggie's on the call tonight Game two in Denver,
and then you've got Game two Pacers Knicks on Wednesday
on TNT. What's it like when you go into the
garden now as a broadcaster.

Speaker 5 (26:44):
During a regular season game, it's really nothing. I think
it'll be a little bit more heightened on Wednesday because
there's more at State. Let's face it, right, and I'm
looking forward to it. And for those of you wondering
why I'm doing this game, it's the same reason why

(27:05):
Tony Romo or Troy Yitman they do Dallas Cowboys games.
It's going to be down the middle, right, That's how
it is. That's my job is to call it like
I see it, so there won't be any phasor favoritism.
I mean, for eighteen years was I Indian Pacer? Absolutely,
But I'm sure i'll hear the chance. I'm sure i'll

(27:28):
hear all those naughty word. I'm good with that, But
I'm there to do a job to call a game.
I think this will be a fantastic series.

Speaker 2 (27:37):
Wait, do you get booed when you go into the garden?

Speaker 5 (27:42):
I will be surprised during the game if I don't
hear Reggie sucks. I'll actually I'll be a little hurt
if I don't hear Reggie sucks. I kind of want that.

Speaker 2 (27:54):
Why don't you go out and take some jumpers before
the game? I just might just might on the left side.

Speaker 5 (28:04):
Where Spike sits that that forty five degree angle, just
to let them know, Just to let them know.

Speaker 2 (28:14):
And you know who goes first, the other guy has
to go to that guy's funeral. So if Spike goes,
you got to go to Spike's funeral. Right, It's a
package deal and vice versa.

Speaker 5 (28:24):
We will forever be linked. Now we have put a
lot of our baggage kind of under the bridge. You know,
we've been friendly at All Star games, and he was
at when we did the All Star luncheon for the Legends.
He was there and presented an award for me. So

(28:44):
we've been kind of cool. But we haven't faced our
pacers and Knicks have not faced one another. Now we
are I'm gonna be in the building, and tensions are
high because both teams have a chance to be in
a conference finals. Think about that. The Knicks and or
Pacer have a chance to be in a conference finals,
so the stakes are much higher. I get it New Yorkers,

(29:06):
the way they took over Philadelphia and how they acted,
I get it. But just know the Boogeyman is.

Speaker 1 (29:16):
Coming back down to call a game.

Speaker 5 (29:18):
Okay, I am coming.

Speaker 2 (29:22):
I had Rick Carlisle on recently and I said, who's
the better best shooter in Indianapolis? And he said, well,
I'm going to take Tyrese Haliburton. He goes, but if
Larry Bird was around, I'd take Larry. I said, what
about Caitlin? He goes, Well, Larry's still going to say
he's the best shooter in Indianapolis. Who do you think

(29:42):
is the best shooter in Indianapolis? You mean you're not there? No,
who's there? Now?

Speaker 5 (29:50):
Wow? I mean Caitlyn? Can Lacey? And so can Tyrese? Uh.
I already know they probably have shot.

Speaker 2 (30:04):
So who would you take in a three point shooting contest?
Tyrese Haliburton or Caitlin Clark? And you can throw Bird
in there too. Right now, right now, we'll see.

Speaker 5 (30:17):
I will say this, Tyrese has been struggling with his
three point shots since the AL Server. I've been doing
my homework.

Speaker 2 (30:23):
Okay, so I might know I might go with But
if you were in Indianapolis, come on, okay, all right,
I do come the team that fascinates you the most here.
If I said Clippery's seventy six ers Warriors in the
off season.

Speaker 5 (30:43):
I would probably say Warriors only for the simple fact
of this, is this the end of the dynasty? Because
I've been hearing there's feelers out there for Klay Thompson,
and look, four championships between Draymond, Steph and Clay and
they've been such a big part of pop culture and

(31:06):
changing how our game is played and viewed with all
the threes and you know, playing small ball and you know.
So I'm more intrigued about what's going to happen with
Clay and is this the end of their of their
run and their dynasty.

Speaker 2 (31:24):
I wonder, like I watched Orlando, they desperately need three
point shooters, and I wonder, is there a chance that
Paul George would be in the mix or Klay Thompson
in the mix, because you know, you've got to have
at least one three point shooter, and.

Speaker 5 (31:38):
And not only that, those two guys have veteran presence
in that young Orlando magic, you know, locker room. I
think that was the only thing that was that was missing.
And I told people this on the air. I said
that in the first game against the Timberwolves, and the
last thing you want to do is be a big

(32:00):
They got up big versus Cleveland in Game seven on
the road, but they kind of showed their youth in
the second half, and Donovan Mitchell showed why he's one
of the top twenty twenty five players in our games
and he has game seven experience. If you have a
Paul George or Kay Thompson on this team, that kind

(32:21):
of helps balance things out.

Speaker 2 (32:24):
Paulie reminded me when we were gonna have you on,
He goes, you know Stark's headbutted Reggie and Stark's is
at these games. Well you kind of you sold it,
but Starks'll be there at at the game. Like you
actually had a physical conference, not Spike, Spike, you and
just had words. But you and John Stark's.

Speaker 5 (32:41):
Okay, I haven't seen Johnny Boy.

Speaker 2 (32:45):
No, what, so he'll be there.

Speaker 5 (32:49):
Bring it, Charle, Uh, bring them all? Patrick? Do you
think I care about it? Any of them?

Speaker 2 (32:59):
Well, you're not going to mess with you, and you
know you, You're like Patrick, he's a good guy. Okay,
you're not gonna mess with.

Speaker 5 (33:05):
I could easily make a call and get some of
my boys.

Speaker 2 (33:09):
No, but give me you and John Starks had an altercation.
He got thrown down to that game.

Speaker 5 (33:14):
We did. We did. But there's been so many games
since then.

Speaker 2 (33:20):
Okay.

Speaker 5 (33:20):
I mean I believe that game was in ninety four
when that happened, So there's so many games that have
happened since then.

Speaker 2 (33:27):
Okay, but have you when's the la't time you've seen
Johnny Boy? Well?

Speaker 5 (33:34):
What, Paul, it's been a while. I haven't had a
New York game this season at all, so this will
be my first New York game, my first Knicks game
this year, so I haven't seen them all year.

Speaker 2 (33:45):
Yeah, Paul, you're right.

Speaker 4 (33:47):
This game with Reggie versus Starks is ninety four. You
were doing the Sports Center highlight that night, Dan, and
in the clip, the reporter is asking Reggie how it started,
and and everywhere it was Reggie, did you say thing
to me? Because no, I didn't saything to him all night,
and reporter goes, come on, come on.

Speaker 2 (34:02):
There's no way you didn't say something to him.

Speaker 5 (34:05):
I don't know at all. I was just out there
to have a competitive layoff type atmosphere game. And then
lo and behold, you know he headbutts me. Did I
sell a little bit? Of course, you've got to sit
like today they went to.

Speaker 2 (34:22):
The request shoe.

Speaker 5 (34:24):
You know it was marginal contact. Listen, what's the marginal
contact from Stark's head buttted me? All good? Nothing but love, John,
I'm looking forward to seeing you and all my lovely nicks.

Speaker 2 (34:39):
I'm sure what Marvin.

Speaker 5 (34:41):
Reggie's the greatest trash talker ever.

Speaker 9 (34:43):
Only because of this he got Kobe Bryant and Michael
Jordan's to fight him.

Speaker 2 (34:47):
Basically, they fought him.

Speaker 5 (34:49):
Yeah again, I was asking about.

Speaker 2 (34:53):
The shoe, I wondered.

Speaker 5 (34:57):
I was only like.

Speaker 2 (35:00):
We were friends, you worked out together until we have the
same attorney, and then he stole some of your moves
and then all of a sudden.

Speaker 5 (35:08):
I'm telling you see, I'm always the victim here there.
I am always.

Speaker 2 (35:14):
Yeah, you are you are great to have you back.
Reg have fun tonight and then Wednesday night in the Garden.

Speaker 5 (35:21):
I love your Theodore and I love my Dan. It's Marvin,
the best edition, well, the best edition ever.

Speaker 2 (35:29):
Oh thank you, thank you. You're the only edition. Like
we haven't had any other editions.

Speaker 5 (35:34):
Right, but he is the best edition to the Dan net.

Speaker 2 (35:37):
Oh okay, come on, I'm taking the complident. Come on
taking a compliment. Reg will be on the call tonight
in Denver with Kevin Harlan, Jamal Crawford and Allie LaForce
and then the Garden Nicks and the Pacers on Wednesday night.
We'll come back. Last Call for phone Calls, what we learn,
what's in store tomorrow? Always a treat talking to Regu.
We're back after this.

Speaker 1 (35:57):
Be sure to catch the live edition of The Damn
Patty Trick Show weekdays at nine am Eastern, six am
Pacific on Fox Sports Radio and the iHeartRadio WAPP.

Speaker 2 (36:07):
Last Call for Phone Calls, What we learned? Once in
store tomorrow. Also this day in sports history. Let me
start there, PAULI, so you have enough time, enough freedom
to give us this day in sports history.

Speaker 4 (36:18):
Heyy buddy. Nineteen fifteen, Babe Ruth who's always in. This hit,
his first major league home run with the Boston Red Sox.
Is also his pitching debut, which he threw a shut
out complete game. Here's another one, because I always wondered,
Babe Ruth only won a couple MVPs and a few
different things. In nineteen twenty nine, the American League discontinued
the MVP award. I can't find why. I'm still looking

(36:40):
into why. The AL in nineteen twenty nine got rid
of it. Nineteen forty six, the New York Yankees became
the first major League baseball team to travel by plane.
Oh this is one you remember Dan ninety two Anthony
Younger the New York Mets. The pitcher ye started a
streak of losing twenty six consecutive starts.

Speaker 6 (36:56):
Yeah, this is two good, one good one, one bad one.

Speaker 4 (37:00):
Ninety five ESPN Classic Classic Sports began on cable TV
with ESPN. It was great at the time, a lot
of old games that we hadn't been seen in years.
Lass six ninety seven, the NHL's Hertford Whalers became the Carolina.

Speaker 6 (37:14):
That's you.

Speaker 2 (37:15):
It was on this date nineteen ninety eight Carrie would
threw a one hitter. He struck out twenty. That was
his fifth major league start as he beat the Houston Astros.
That was a cold, wet day at Wrigley, And I remember,
I've seen some unbelievable curveballs, breaking balls in my lifetime.
I've seen Blue Moon Otum, I've seen Kershaw, Barry Zito

(37:43):
trying to Doc Gooden, but Carrie Wood that day through
a frisbee. It just was starting outside of the batter's box.
And I've never seen a breaking ball, or at least
felt like it was breaking more than any other pitch
I ever saw. And that was his fifth start that

(38:03):
he had, and he struck out twenty. And that was
an Astros lineup that was good, a couple of Hall
of famers in there, Bagwell, Bigio. That was a good lineup,
and carry Wood that was nasty that day. He could
have struck out everybody and I wouldn't have been surprised.
It was one of those performances that he threw hard,

(38:25):
like Doc Goodin had two pitches, maybe three pitches, he
had an unbelievable fastball, but that breaking ball is what
buckled you. Nolan Ryan's another one. You know, that breaking
ball was not fair. Yeah, Pauline.

Speaker 4 (38:37):
For years and years after that on WGN, whenever there's
a rain delay and they needed to fill they would
show the Kerry Wood twenty strikeout game, sure, because there's
not that many great moments before then it comes.

Speaker 2 (38:46):
His Yeah Auto in la hi, Auto, thanks for holding
what's on your mind today?

Speaker 13 (38:53):
Hy hi, guys doing one of the time in my
best and worst of the weekend, my worst being in Atlanta,
the Brads went in town to play the Dodgers and
got swept. I was at the Saturday game and Max
Munsey wanted to cosplay as Barry Bonds that day, So yeah,
that was great seeing that. My best was I was

(39:16):
actually at the roast of Tom Brady last night, my
one of my good friends with the comedy writer, and
he wrote some jokes, uh for the presentation. So it
was nice to be in the building and see.

Speaker 2 (39:27):
Everybody who got to Who got the biggest reaction, Auto.

Speaker 13 (39:32):
Dicky Glazer. Dicky Glazer got like a standing o. She
she killed it because she was like one of the
first ones to go up there. But then Kim Kardashian
came up and everybody's a dude at the building. U
we were just confused while she was there more or
less why she got to tell jokes about Tom Brady.

(39:52):
I didn't get the correlation, but I mean, I guess
people just hate Kim.

Speaker 2 (39:58):
It was the one athlete he hasn't slept with. And
then you know, she gets to what that's not necessary? No,
but I'm just saying I was fall in line with
the jokes.

Speaker 6 (40:07):
Actually not true. I'm checked, Okay, Actually it's not necessary.

Speaker 2 (40:10):
It wasn't. It wasn't when I was falling, you know,
kind of the script last night, Kim Kardashian jokes, that's
that's u's e the line. What they couldn't get Paris
hol What.

Speaker 7 (40:19):
Does nickcki Glazer have to do with Tom Brady? Well,
she's just professional roaster, like nothing, though, I mean.

Speaker 2 (40:25):
Jeffrey Ross doesn't either, right, but they're professional roasters. Kim
Kardashian is just a friend a business person. I don't
know if they're friends, like even I don't even know
what that relationship is. Let's go around the room. What
we learned on the program, Todd would you learn today?

Speaker 9 (40:41):
Most of Drew Bledsoe's roast jokes last night were his
own material? How about that?

Speaker 2 (40:45):
And his wife wrote a joke, but he wouldn't tell
us what it was. See O'Connor. Would you learn if
you make golf plans with Drew Bledsoe, he's going to
be there? Yes, short on sleep. I saw Dave Chappelle
at the comedy Store at three point thirty last night.
In the morning, up to play golf today, Marvin, would
you learn today? I learned that you're a highlight. You're
a highlightest. Yes, I like players who give me highlights,

(41:07):
but that stems from when I was at Sports Center Paulie.

Speaker 6 (41:11):
Reggie Miller is almost back at MSG.

Speaker 2 (41:13):
Almost back, Todd, would I learn?

Speaker 9 (41:15):
We all learned you love a good outlet pass in
the NBA, But wouldn't have your wife run into the
room to see a replay of one.

Speaker 2 (41:20):
