called a bond me.

Speaker 4 (00:55):
I think it's just the word.

Speaker 3 (00:56):
It's kind of like it could be an all purpose
sandwich at like a Vietnamese restaurant.

Speaker 4 (01:01):
Huh okay, oftentimes with pork okay.

Speaker 5 (01:03):
Often bond b A h n me am I b
A n h b A h n b a n
h oh it is? Is this the first poll question?
How do you spell bond me?

Speaker 2 (01:18):
Well, I'm only going by what Tyler wrote down here.
Oh is it b a an age?

Speaker 4 (01:25):
Yeah, with an accent? And am I not em e?

M I am I bond me? All right, We're off
to a great start. It looks more now, it looks
like more.

Speaker 5 (02:24):
Yes, I didn't even know that.

Speaker 4 (02:25):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (02:26):
Yeah, but we've had some of those spellers on before
and I gave them like Shrzyzhevski and they failed miserably.
That Samir, Yes, buddy, Samir Patel. Yeah, what a boss.

Speaker 5 (02:41):
Samir was a boss. He was, he said to Yapo
and he said, bless you. Yes, uh, I gave him
sports names. He failed miserably. You know, a little twelve
year old punk.

Speaker 6 (02:51):
There multiple definitions of yes.

Speaker 2 (02:55):
Yeah, gave him a j Perzinski. He couldn't do it. Yeah,
you know, they give them all these words. Now, there's
a lot of words. But then when I if you
throw in some sports names now chris Fulmatu mal follow
ye that yeah, yes, Tom.

Speaker 6 (03:12):
I can always sun like.

Speaker 7 (03:13):
There's some fake words, you know, even to the greatest
of spellos when they say, like, you know, the word
is kalla jomnimi.

Speaker 4 (03:22):
Thank you, Tom, all.

Speaker 2 (03:23):
Right, eight seven seven to three DP show Tyler, the
operators sitting by, take your phone calls seat and we'll
have a poll question for you. We have to wait
a week, but it'll be worth it. NBA Finals, get ready.
The Dallas Mavericks roll the Timberwolves, Luca with thirty six,
Kyrie with thirty six. So you have a weekend with
no basketball, you'll have the NHL playoffs and you'll have

(03:47):
some baseball as well. Panthers over the Rangers. They're up
three to two in this series. But back to the Mavericks.
When the season started, I'm looking at the odds on
favorites to win the title. This isseason. Boston Celtics and
the Denver Nuggets were tied at plus four p fifty.

(04:07):
Then it was the Phoenix Suns oops, then the Bucks,
Golden State, Lakers, Heat seventy six Ers, Clippers, Grizzlies, Mavericks.
Yeah yeah, Mavericks were tied with the Cleveland Cavaliers just
ahead of these Sacramento Kings.

Speaker 4 (04:32):
Stall of a Dick Stanna Day, Standava Day, Stannada Day.

Speaker 5 (04:38):
This is the state of the.

Speaker 2 (04:40):
Day, Ron Too, Vaipanini America. The official trading cards of
the Dan Patrick Show. So you had the MAVs at
plus twenty five hundred, same for the Calves, then the Kings,
then the Pelicans, then the Knicks, and then the Minnesota
Timberwolves were at plus sixty six hundred. It was a

(05:01):
good year. You can lose and still have a good year.
I think this was a good year from Minnesota. I
think it was a good year for the New York Knicks.
Certain teams that maybe they overachieve a little bit when
the Hawks went to the Eastern Conference Finals a couple
of years ago. Gosh, does it seem like it was
only a couple of years ago.

Speaker 6 (05:19):
I don't think it really happened.

Speaker 2 (05:20):
I yes, you know what, when you told me that
the other day, You're like, God, I can't believe the
Hawks went to the Eastern Conference Finals. I go, what year?

Speaker 6 (05:29):
You go?

Speaker 2 (05:29):
It was just a couple of years ago. I go,
oh my god, that's right, the Hawks in the Eastern
Conference Finals.

Speaker 6 (05:36):
Remember Ben Simmons passed up that wide open shot.

Speaker 2 (05:38):
Oh yes, yes, all right. So you got Dallas going
to the NBA Finals. Got a lot of storylines here.
You got Kyrie going back to Boston, Christaps Porzingis maybe,
you know, going back to Dallas. I don't know if
the Maverick fans are going to be upset that, you know,
Porzingis comes to town. Boston fans are gonna be h

(05:58):
They're gonna let Kyrie know all about that.

Speaker 5 (06:01):
I gotta be Boston fans.

Speaker 2 (06:02):
Yes they are.

Speaker 4 (06:03):
That's yes, that's it.

Speaker 6 (06:04):
They're so.

Speaker 2 (06:05):
Luca and Kyrie each had thirty six. This was never
a game I'm watching, and all of a sudden, Luca
gets going and gets going, and it kind of sounded
like this fourteen for Luca.

Speaker 1 (06:18):
On Loco's going on here?

Speaker 5 (06:23):
Yes hears on Monday night, broke the landers and controlled
by the mouths.

Speaker 8 (06:28):
Another heat check from from Luca checks again another three,
got it, he's over flower.

Speaker 2 (06:36):
He has over fire twenty points. All right, Kevin, Harlan
and Regg with the call. There. Here's Anthony Edwards after
the loss talking about Luca.

Speaker 5 (06:47):
What did you see happen so early there that just
brought a knockout punch and made it tough to come back?

Speaker 2 (06:52):
Luca?

Speaker 6 (06:52):
Is that simple? He had like three shots from the
from the loco, so pretty much.

Speaker 2 (06:57):
Nothing we can do about it? Well, well, I thought
there was something you could do about it. And I
know the Minnesota Timberwolves are going to get a haul
passed today because we're going to go.

Speaker 9 (07:06):
Ah.

Speaker 2 (07:06):
They overachieved and there was no aggression. I wanted to
see physicality. I wanted you to come out and say
you're not going to win on our floor, and I
never saw it last night. And Luca all of a
sudden got on a heater and he was not getting
off until he said, yeah, I'm a little tired. Hey,
Kai why don't you take over? And then Kyrie Irving
had thirty six as well. But I was surprised, I

(07:30):
don't want to say disappointed. I was surprised that I
didn't get physicality out of Minnesota that they were going to.
I mean, at some point you got to bump him,
knock him down something. You can't just let him go.
I don't know where do I want to score? You know,
I haven't shot over here in a couple of I'm
gonna go over here and hit a three. I wanted

(07:50):
to see something more. I wanted to see Anthony Edwards.

Speaker 4 (07:53):
See.

Speaker 2 (07:53):
This is what drives me crazy about my business. We
have to have a declaration. It's got to be like today,
Luca the best player in the NBA.

Speaker 4 (08:02):
I don't know.

Speaker 2 (08:03):
Was he the best player a week ago?

Speaker 10 (08:05):
Uh?

Speaker 2 (08:06):
Probably not? But he is now Okay, But then it
wasn't long ago where we were saying, joker, he's going
to be a top ten player of Okay, Like it's immediate.
Anthony Edwards, he's the second coming of Michael Jordan. No,
he's not give it time. He's twenty two. Luca. If

(08:26):
Luca wins the title this year, Luca will win the
MVP next year, you pretty much count on it, because
now all of a sudden, he lived up to the expectations.
He won a title like Joker, I don't know, he
doesn't deserve the MVP and t he win a title.
Then he wins a title, and I go, you're gonna
win the MVP next year or now this year, and

(08:46):
he did because we need that validation. Now we're going
to be disappointed in Anthony Edwards. He did know Michael Jordan, well,
he didn't say he was.

Speaker 11 (08:56):
We did.

Speaker 2 (08:57):
And Luca is not old. He's twenty five. It does
feel like he's old. And in three years is a
big difference in the NBA. Anthony Edwards is going to
be a star. He already is a star, but he's
not ready. He wasn't ready, his team wasn't ready. It
was a great story this year. And then go back

(09:17):
to when you know the Dallas Mavericks got Kyrie Irving
Seaton went back and looked at the show that we
did that day because it was in real time our
reaction when Shams reported that Brooklyn was sending him to
the Dallas Mavericks, and they got a couple of players,
and they got some draft picks there, but the reaction
was pretty much the same. Oh Man nets, they did

(09:40):
a great job. They fleece the MAVs. Look at what
they got. They got Spencer Dinwiddie, Dorian Finney Smith, a
first round pick, and multiple second round picks, and Dallas
got Kyrie and everybody had the same reaction pretty much.
And I think our pole question was the they get
better or did the MAVs get better or problems? Yes, yeah,

(10:05):
And my reaction was both because you can't look at
Kyrie and without looking at him in full like the
totality of you get Kyrie, what are you getting where
You're getting an injury prone guy who's thirty one and
we don't know if basketball is important to him anymore.
That was a fair assessment about Kyrie. I never said

(10:28):
anything about his basketball skills, because even at thirty one,
even banged up, injury prone, he still was elite. But
I said, you know, you're not sure what you're getting.
But it really came down to almost his mindset, like
did you want to hit the reset button? We asked

(10:49):
how would Luca respond to this? Would it be a
welcoming site that he would get somebody who was a
equal as far as scoring, playmaking ability, and it turned
out that way. And Kyrie has been great, you know,
And this isn't revisionist history. I know what he is.
I didn't know who he was, but he came to

(11:11):
Dallas and there's no drama there. We haven't heard anything
out of him, and that's good because we do want
to see him just play basketball. The other stuff, the
ancillary stuff, the off the court. If he revisits that
when he's done, great. I like to see a player
who has that much talent, that ability to be back
on the big stage again. And he's been through an

(11:32):
awful lot. But at thirty one, thirty two, all of
a sudden you look around and you go, this is
not going to last much longer. How do I want
to be remembered? Does he care about how he wants
to be remembered? But when he plays, when he wants
to play, he's remarkable. Here's Kyrie irving after the win.

Speaker 9 (11:50):
It has been seven long years, but it's also felt
like the right amount of time, you know, in order
to reward myself be in the locker room with my
teammates and enjoying it a long time coming. So we
are going to enjoy this, but we obviously noticed just
a pisstop in the journey, and we got to get
ready for you know, that court turning gold, as I
like to say, you know, the shoe's turn goal, the

(12:11):
jersey's turn gold. And you know, as a kid, that's
what you dream of, getting to his the finals and
being able to play against the best of the best,
with the.

Speaker 2 (12:19):
Whole world watching. Yeah, okay, get ready for Boston. Here's
some of the reactions. Why any team at all would
tether any part of their competitive livelihood, however short or
long term to this dude is beyond me. Was Dallas
desperate maybe, but Mark Cuban not afraid to take a chance.

(12:40):
They brought in Kyrie. Kyrie had to respect Luca, had
to respect Jason Kidd, had to be willing to be
a great team player, and he realized that you're not
going to be the guy you know, he had to
go out there and also, you know, be a little
bit submissive to Lucas Lucas team. How do I fit in?
And Kyrie has done a wonderful job.

Speaker 5 (13:03):
Yes, yeah, I think too that if you go back,
you know, obviously revision his history, but just some of
the things that Kyrie was saying about, you know, appreciating
Lebron more. He wished that he had done that more
in Cleveland, and there was a certain his comments were
a lot more mature and that he was reflective too.
It gives you a little bit of insight actually into

(13:25):
why he's okay being the robin to Luca's batman. Now
he's okay, let no, you go be the guy and
I'll be the other guy that helps us get there,
no problem.

Speaker 2 (13:34):
He wasn't that way, and that was part of the
reason why he wanted out of Cleveland. He wanted his
own team. He went to Boston. Then all of a
sudden he wanted out of Boston. Now he goes to
Brooklyn that he wants to pair up with Harden Durant.
Then that doesn't work out for a variety of reasons.
You know, his stance with COVID. There was a controversial
film that he was backing that was labeled anti Semitic.

(13:55):
I mean, there was a lot of things here and
we didn't know if he wanted to play. When he
did play, there was no argument he was a wonderful player.
He's a wonderful player. It was all the other stuff
that went into it. So you're going to have people
today they're going to be like, yeah, I knew Dallas
was getting a great player, and Dallas got the better
end of the year. That wasn't the way it went

(14:16):
down when it first happened, because everybody reacted as you
would expect them to, and that is we're not quite
sure what you're getting. Is Dallas desperate? Did they give
up too much? Wow, Brooklyn fleeced the Dallas Mavericks. But
last night Luca was wonderful early. Now you're going to
hear today. Is Luca the best player in the world?

(14:38):
Is it just because you dusted off the Minnesota Timberwolves?
Is he now better than Joker? Because Joker's not the playoffs?
But that's what happens. It's immediate, it's overnight, Luca best
player in the game. A lot of people don't watch
basketball games. They see highlights. That was a game. If
you watch the game, then you un understood somebody is

(15:01):
going to basically take his hand and put it on
your throat and make sure that you run out of oxygen.
He did that to the entire building last night. In
real time. You saw it. He outscored Minnesota in the
first quarter twenty to nineteen and probably could have put
up sixty, but then he didn't need to. But watching

(15:26):
that in real time, that's when you understand. Sometimes you
got killers out there and they want the ball, they
want the moment, and he certainly did last night, and
Minnesota had no answers and they weren't physical. I was
shocked with the lack of energy urgency that I saw
with Minnesota. All right, phone calls are welcome. This meet

(15:48):
Friday eight seven seven three DP show. We'll settle on
a pull question coming up. We'll look at the wide
receiver market. Coming up here Mike Tannebond from the Mothership
former GM, because if you don't sign your receiver now
wait a month, it's going to cost you a few
million dollars more. Also, John Sally won four titles, is

(16:10):
with the Lakers, with the bad Boys, with the Bulls.
So John will join us a little bit later on
as well. Phone calls in the on deck circle back
after this Dan Patrick Show.

Play of the Day coming up. Stat of the day
is always how about a pole question? Seaton, We say
good morning to those watching on Peacock, thank you, thank
you for downloading the MP and radio affiliates around the country.
All right, seton poll question today, Well we could go.
We could start with the obvious one. Who you got?

Speaker 5 (17:15):
Celtics MAVs. It's gonna be a tough matchup, I think
for the Mavericks.

Speaker 2 (17:19):
I do too, because of the length of the Celtics
and they do have some really good defenders. Jalen Brown
against Luca is going to be a lot of fun.
Drew Holliday against Kyrie is going to be fun. But
Dallas does have the size to match the Boston Celtics.
But you know, Boston will be the favorite here.

Speaker 5 (17:40):
Yes, so then it sounds weird to say, but is
Tatums sort of then going to be the X Factor?
Do they almost live and die with him in this series?
Maybe that's too severe, but.

Speaker 2 (17:52):
Yeah, I don't know. You know, when I watched the
Celtics this year, it feels like Jalen Brown wants to
be the face of the team. He wants to be
the star. Jason Tatum just happens to be the star.
I don't know if things change in this series here
other than Boston better win, no matter who's the star
or the guy the X Factor. If you're Boston, you

(18:12):
better win, no excuses. Yes, like Jalen Brown doesn't seem
to disappear. Maybe there are stretches that he does, but
you never really have to wonder like why didn't he
show up tonight? You know there are other players who
Jason Tatum. Sometimes you're like is he playing right now?
Or is he Oh wait, there he is? You know
who disappeared last night? An Edwards?

Speaker 5 (18:32):
That dude, Yeah, if you're going to be the guy,
be the guy.

Speaker 4 (18:35):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (18:36):
Once again, that that surprised me. I thought that they
were going to be on Tampa Dallas to start like
it was going to be uh oh, got a dogfight here.
We're going back to Dallas, and all of a sudden,
I go, somebody better bang into Luca, do something to Luca,
anything to Luca. And then they waited too long, and

(18:56):
then all of a sudden, Luca decides that, you know, hey,
I'm I'm done for a little while. Kyrie, why don't
you go have some fun.

Speaker 5 (19:03):
It was like the Timberwolves needed somebody to step up,
you know, somebody needed to be you know, just that
spark that they needed, and nobody really wanted to do it.
Maybe Kat tried to, I guess, but.

Speaker 2 (19:15):
Yeah, if you would have said those point totals, then
I would have said, all right, you know they're they're
going to be in this game. Anthony Edwards his point total.
Karl Anthony Towns. We just didn't know that, you know,
Luca and Kyrie, because we thought if they both have
good games when they didn't have good games the last game,
then now all of a sudden, Dallas is the favorite,

(19:36):
and that happened last night. Both go for thirty six,
and I wonder about the future of Karl Anthony Towns
that that was a team that was built to beat Denver,
which they did. Is that team built to beat other
teams because you're going to have you know, look at
these teams in the West, that they're going to get
a year older, year better, more, you know, mature, more experience.

(20:01):
Denver's still going to be good. I mean, you can
throw in a lot of it. I mean, Houston's good.
Are the Pelicans going to get it right? You know,
there's just Sacramento is still dangerous, but you're going to
have that now all of a sudden, is Minnesota going
to keep up with them? Because you got Rudy Gobert,
who a lot of people said has gotten exposed in

(20:22):
the playoffs. Karl Anthony Towns got exposed. There, you have
Anthony Edwards. Now you do have some depth there. But
I wonder moving forward, do they make any kind of
move here Karl Anthony Towns, Rudy Gobert or don't overreact?
You just lost?

Speaker 3 (20:40):
That?

Speaker 2 (20:40):
Was it, plain and simple? Dallas was better? All right?
See what else do you have there? Paul just sent
one over. Who would.

Speaker 5 (20:50):
A title do the most for? Tatum Brown, Dancic, Irving.

Speaker 4 (20:55):
Short term, long term perception.

Speaker 2 (21:00):
I would say that. I would say Tatum and Brown
winning a title like short term, because now that takes
If they don't win it this year, then next year,
the entire year is about oh great, yeah, sixty two
wins or whatever. Nobody cares. Let me see what you
do in the postseason. Luca would be a big one

(21:21):
because now all of a sudden, you're welcome to the club.
And then I think that opens the door for him
to be the MVP. I think we look at him
as a novelty, like, man, is he fun? But is
he a winner? Is he a leader? Is he good
in big games, big moments in the playoffs? I mean,
he's been to a Western Conference finals before, but I

(21:43):
think watching him now, it's still amazing. Pauli brought this
up this morning that you have punchers in the NBA
and then you have a counter puncher. Joker and Luca
are counter punchers. Man. By that, I mean, what are
you going to do? Oh you want me to go right?
Oh okay, I can go right, or hey, we're gonna

(22:03):
force you into this double team. Okay. So he's he's
all of this. He already knows Okay, you're gonna force
me into doing something now I'll respond with my CounterPunch joker. Hey,
we're gonna double team you on the perimeter. Okay, I'll
find the open man. We're gonna be physical with you.
We're gonna make you put the ball on the floor.

(22:25):
I mean, this is what defenses try to do, and
they try to switch it up so you don't know
what's coming. I don't think Luca cares what's coming. I
think he's and I think Kyrie is the same way.
Although Kyrie can be a puncher, he can take it
and go after you. It feels like Luca wants to
see what you want to do, and then he'll go okay,

(22:45):
step back three. Okay, I'll step back three from the logo, okay,
go inside, pump fake, go left, go right, pump fake,
could get okay, little short, little floater. That's a counter puncher.
And to be able to have every shot in the
bag is what's amazing Kyrie and not many players in
the NBA have every shot Kyrie does and Luca does.

(23:09):
That's inside, outside, floater, left, right, deep, all of those,
and then you throw in that Luca's averaging tennisists per game.
What he's doing, leading in points, rebounds, and assists for
the entire playoffs. That's pretty remarkable. And now you have
the NBA Finals. Now you have to cap it off.

(23:30):
Now you have to go, Okay, I put my stamp.
Now I'm part of the greatest of all time. Everything
else is sort of the statistical greatness. You want a
piece of hardware, and winning a title will lead to
MVP trophies as well. I truly believe that because the voters.
The voters still look at him as all right, curiosity,

(23:52):
all right, big numbers, but when you win, just ask Joker.
Nobody will ever question Jannis. No one will ever question
Are we still questioning Joe LMB. Yes we are. There's
certain players that you win a title and it washes
away a lot. And you've seen that so far. You

(24:14):
saw it with Joker, you might see it with Luca
and if not, then at least Dallas can say we
surprised a lot of people we played. And you know what,
they deserve a lot of credit for the players that
they drafted, signed, traded for. It's not just getting Kyrie.
They've made some great moves and they're players that you go, Okay,

(24:36):
Derek Lively, I don't know who he is and then
all of a sudden you watch him and you go okay. PJ. Washington,
where you're going okay? And then all of a sudden
you go, okay, that's the kind of team that they
have there in Dallas. You got two stars, but you
gotta have role players. Denver won last year because of

(24:57):
role players. Dad joke. THEA had Murray, they needed depth.
They had depth. They didn't have it this year. But
I don't know. You just you start to look at
these matchups here and Reggie Miller said Boston's going to
win because of Derek White and Drew Holiday. He said
the little things playing defense that they're going to be

(25:18):
the ones that will be the difference here. Got to
wait a week though. Uh Buddha in San Francisco, Good morning, Buddha,
what's on your mind today?

Speaker 10 (25:29):
No body, let's go ritzy every day the Super Bowl.
Baby Luca must have been listening to the show yesterday.

Speaker 7 (25:39):
DP.

Speaker 10 (25:39):
He came out whistling and strutting like Omar from the Wire.
I mean he was just smoking those Minnesota kids. And
I am so okay with this finals matchup. I mean,
grown up and composed Kyrie, I mean he's impressed in Dallas,
but the Boston fans will definitely let him know DP
what a knucklehead he was in Boston, That's for sure.

(26:02):
And why do I feel like deep down in Boston
fan heads knowing Kyrie's coming back into town. I think
there's a little bit of a.

Speaker 2 (26:12):
Nott good thank you Buddha. Derek Lively. By the way,
Derek Lively the second he was sixteen of sixteen from
the floor in the series, most field goals made without
a miss in a playoff series since nineteen sixty eight.
Stat of the.

Speaker 4 (26:30):
Day, sad of the day, that best stat of the day.
Stat of the day?

Speaker 6 (26:36):
Here comes that?

Speaker 4 (26:37):
What stat of the day?

Speaker 3 (26:41):
Yes, Paul, if you're Derek Lively and you know you're
at one hundred percent like last night, if it's the
fourth quarter and you get the bully, I'm good. I'm
just gonna give it up. I don't want to get
score any more. Up by twenty five points, I'll just
take this record.

Speaker 2 (26:54):
Uh, Andrew in Washington, Hi Andrew, what's on your mind?
Good morning, Dan Dennet's Happy meet Friday.

Speaker 13 (27:01):
Thanks for taking my phone call.

Speaker 4 (27:03):
So just two things.

Speaker 13 (27:04):
One I do want to recognize Friday Fritzy today. He
was Todd's Fordamis yesterday saying that Cat the game changer
would get his points, but then the MAVs would win
the series ones are going to be interesting, So great job, Todd,
what a guy to bet on. My other thing is
this is you have been You've been touching on Kyrie

(27:25):
Irving growing up, being composed, being an adult. I didn't
know this until I looked into it. But until Game four,
Kyrie had been unbeaten in close out playoff games. I've
been fourteen and oh and now he's fifteen and one.
What do you see it doing to him? If he
wins a championship? Will he stay composed or will he
kind of go on his flat earth? Bring it because

(27:47):
you have a bigger platform if he wins the championship.

Speaker 4 (27:51):
I don't know.

Speaker 2 (27:52):
I once again, I don't know Kyrie. I don't know
if we've even had him on the show before, and
if we did, maybe it was back in the Cleveland days,
but I don't remember that. All I know is what
I read or people who know him, and I've heard
both sides. I heard that you know he's, you know,
a thoughtful person, you know has perspective, it's curious, like

(28:17):
he's a lot of things. It was just the things
that he was a lot of I had a problem
with in Brooklyn, and that I didn't know if basketball
was important. But when he plays, he is a remarkably
talented player and that shouldn't be lost on people, or
you're at least reminded of this. And I thought Minnesota

(28:38):
was going to win this game last night and then
we go back to Dallas, then it was going to
get interesting. But you know, Luca just came out and
just that was what was really surprised. It's still surprising.
You know, I'm watching highlights and it's it just didn't
feel like Minnesota felt like, yeah, you know what, we'll
be in this game and then we'll win it at
the end. And Luca it's like, I'm going to take

(29:00):
all the drama out of it. It's like when somebody
tells you the end of a movie when you're five
minutes into the movie, you're like, why would you tell
me that he dies? That was Luca. Five minutes into
the movie. He told you how it was going to end. Yes, Todd,
not that he's ever.

Speaker 6 (29:17):
Lacked confidence, but he is at a supreme high level.

Speaker 7 (29:20):
If you see his body language and he's drawing with
snoop and talking to fans or the opposing bench, that
makes him like even extra danger.

Speaker 6 (29:26):
So he feels like everything he puts ups going in.

Speaker 2 (29:28):
Now, Yeah, I mean that confidence level. And then you
know it's called getting blue. That's what you know, the
the actual designation of going in the zone. It's called
getting blue. And I did a whole story on this
when I was at ESPN and talked to athletes, like,
you get in that zone. You don't know how you
get in, and you don't know why you fall out

(29:50):
of that, but when you're in the zone, everything looks bigger, better, brighter.
And you know, Luca got in the zone last night,
got on and then all of a sudden, then it ends.
Now all of these you know moments there have an
expiration date. You just don't know when it's going to be.
And then you're watching I go, he cannot keep this up.

(30:10):
He's gonna have eighty points in the game, and he,
I think, did it just enough? And then all of
a sudden was gonna share the wealth and let Kyrie
get a couple of shots up.

Speaker 6 (30:20):
Yes, Mark, I was so disappointed that the game was
over in the first half.

Speaker 8 (30:23):
Yeah, it felt like uh Lebron had like the forty
five point game in Boston, the game six where I
was like, oh, this game's over at halftime, you know,
and the game was over. That's the last time I'd
seen somebody basically win a game by themselves in the
first half of the game.

Speaker 2 (30:35):
Yeah, they're up twenty nine and then all of a sudden,
Oh they cut it to eighteen, and then all of
a sudden, back up to thirty.

Speaker 6 (30:40):
I go, Jason Kid, call the time out.

Speaker 2 (30:42):
Yeah, Ben in Minnesota, Hi, Ben, what's on your mind?

Speaker 13 (30:47):
Good?

Speaker 11 (30:47):
Marian Dan Hi been six one two And I was agreeing, Yeah,
the Wolves had a good season, and I hope everyest
keeps getting better. But I don't get all the Wolves
defense looks so good against the Nuggets. None, it's just
non existence against the man of Subpecilly into your ways.
I mean, how many elops can you give up in
a series?

Speaker 2 (31:06):
Well, this is what Luca. When the series started, I
said that Luca gets into the lane, you go, you
got to protect the paint, and you have three seven footers,
you have the defensive player of the year. But Luca
will get into the lane, Kyrie will get into the lane,
and then you'll pick up Kyrie or Luca and then
they'll throw alley oops. But then you factor in Luca

(31:27):
and Kyrie hitting threes. Well, now you have the inside
outside game. Now you got to pick your poison. And
Minnesota had a problem. I mean they didn't pick. It
was like, uh, Kyrie got to do what he wanted
to do, Luca got to do what he wanted to do.
You can't let great players dictate what they want to do.
You at least have to put up a roadblock occasionally,

(31:50):
how about a hard foul like something something. And they
didn't do that. Yes, Marv, and.

Speaker 8 (31:55):
Guys like PJ. Washington and Derek Lively they know their
roles and they play him to perfection. They don't try
to do too much or overextend themselves like Kyrie and Luca.
You guys handled the ball. Hey I'm here in the corner.
And Derek Laves got a real Tyson Chandler like field
too nice reference.

Speaker 2 (32:11):
Okay, all right, bloop, Yeah, I like that. But when
you have guys who shoot all the time, their ball dominant,
and you're on the team, you have to understand what
is my role because you can't stand around and watch
them like you have to be doing things. And a
lot of times role players have a hard time, like
what do I do? I want to get out of

(32:32):
your way, and sometimes you know that's hard for these players.
Feels like Dallas knows those role players know what they're
supposed to do, where they're supposed to be. It's not, hey,
I'm not getting my touches. You're on the wrong team.
If you're worried about your touches.

Speaker 3 (32:48):
Yes, but if you're one of those guys who was
like remember PJ. Washington at Kentucky. He was the focal
point of the whole team. He was on the post,
the offense ran through him. If he played on Charlotte,
he'd be averaging twenty twenty and eight.

Speaker 2 (33:00):
Didn't he play on Charlotte.

Speaker 4 (33:02):
Yeah, I mean probably when he was there.

Speaker 2 (33:03):
You know.

Speaker 3 (33:04):
Uh, you know some of these guys they go to
different teams and now he's gonna average like eleven and six,
but he's to be playing in meaningful games deep into
the season.

Speaker 4 (33:11):
Yeah, it's gotta be so much. I wonder that's gotta
be tough to deal with.

Speaker 3 (33:14):
At one point in your career and you get to
a certain age, I just want to want to win something,
get bigger.

Speaker 2 (33:19):
Contract ends on how important winning is, and I would
think it's pretty important. You're playing in the NBA Finals,
all right, take a break. Play of the days up next.

Speaker 1 (33:29):
Be sure to catch the live edition of The Dan
Patrick Show weekdays at nine am Eastern six am Pacific
on Fox Sports Radio and the iHeartRadio.

Speaker 10 (33:38):
Wapp Oh my God to play of the day, My God, this.

Speaker 2 (33:46):
Is the play of the day.

Speaker 6 (33:49):
Check this out.

Speaker 2 (33:50):
The rebound is taking out of Arm's Way Lust Arena
and then off for Lundell left side the circle.

Speaker 14 (33:55):
Lundella shot any Stores and Todd Lundell. It's the Panthers. Therefore,
hours later the night he lets it a rip out
of the left circle. It's two to one with night
thirty eight to play here the third.

Speaker 2 (34:06):
That's courtesy of wq A M. Of the five hours
and twenty minutes of game time in this series, just
under twelve minutes have been played with one team leading
by more than one goal. Panthers on the verge of
going back to the Stanley Cup Final. That's your play
of the day, brought to you by tire Rack dot com,

(34:27):
the official tire expert of the Dan Patrick Show. Great people,
great deals, and a great convenience for you. It's the
way tire buying should be ti iraq dot com. All right,
do you want to update the poll results their seaton
from the first forty seven minutes of the program. Heck yet?

Speaker 5 (34:44):
All right, we have a couple of them working right now,
and I have to see.

Speaker 2 (34:51):
Where stalling stall. You guys are really going to stall.

Speaker 5 (34:57):
I'll do the most for the question that we had.
Jason Tatum right now tied exactly with Luca Oh at
forty five percent each. Right now, it's zero percent for
Jalen Brown. That seems excessive ten percent Kyrie. I get that.

Speaker 2 (35:15):
But Kyrie would.

Speaker 5 (35:16):
Actually get a big boost if he gets another ring.

Speaker 2 (35:18):
Yeah, this is a reintroduction to people for Kyrie Irving
what he's able to do on the basketball floor. It's
like you remember him as a basketball player instead of
who is that oddball? Who does he want to play?
The guy was in Brooklyn? You know, the Celtic's got
to win. I think it would do more for Jason

(35:39):
Tatum and Jalen Brown just because they've been there, we've
seen it and you don't want to get to the Yeah,
you know they're they're going to disappoint again. Now you
win a title, and then it validates all the great
things that they've done. Now, all of a sudden, you
look at the Celtics and go, all right, it's only

(36:00):
you might be like the Atlanta Braves. Atlanta Braves were,
you know, winning their division. They were going to the
World Series, and then they got one World Series. Now
we still look at that with that pitching staff as
a disappointment, but at least they got one just to
validate an incredible run that they had. Boston's been on
an incredible run. You know, this would be a dynasty

(36:22):
if they were winning a couple of titles here and
then going back again and you didn't have any real
potholes along the way. You had players who were injured,
teams undermanned. You got to get there. Now you have
to win. You got to win. And this makes it
tougher because now you're going against two great players, two

(36:43):
great offensive players. This is different than Minnesota. Minnesota, you know,
maybe a fuller team, a defensive minded team, but I
only have to worry about Anthony Edwards. This I got
to worry about two guys who can get forty. There
was nobody on Minnesota where I go, Hey, Anthony will
get his. Now I got to worry about Karl Anthony

(37:04):
Towns or Mike Conley. You just you weren't doing that.
Nas read uh. Time to play good idea or bad idea, Paulie.

Speaker 3 (37:13):
Okay, So when you're watching hockey, there's all you know,
there's a tripping interference, whatever it may be, and a
guy goes to the penalty box. They play a power
play five on four for two minutes. Whatever it may be,
all right, it's very cool. It ups the tension, it
changes the way the game is played for just a
couple of minutes. Imagine if in the NBA when a
player got a flagrant one instead of just a free

(37:35):
throw and you get the ball back, that player has
to go to the bench for one minute and cannot
be replaced. So a flagrant run one minute five on four.
And if it's a flagrant too, it's two minutes or
maybe more, maybe three minutes. But if they could do
it in hockey, why can't they do it in basketball?
And how would it play out?

Speaker 2 (37:58):
So it would be five on four for a minute
maybe five on four for two minutes or longer, and
then you would play your defense would be a zone.
You'd play a box and then try to hold on
for dear life. You'd have to have guys out there
who would be penalty killers. Okay, you're only out there

(38:20):
when we get a flagrant and we have five on four. Yes, time,
I like it.

Speaker 7 (38:25):
And think of the drama when they're all discussing whether
it's a flagrant one or two and how that could
affect the outcome of the game, and we're waiting for
them to come up to the mic and tell us
what it is and how that's going to change.

Speaker 2 (38:34):
All right, anybody else in favor? Seaton? What about you?

Speaker 5 (38:40):
That seems like a lot of scoring.

Speaker 2 (38:42):
Yeah, there's already enough scoring in the NBA.

Speaker 5 (38:44):
It seems like a lot of scoring. You gotta take
a minute and all of a sudden you're up by fifteen.
You know, you add an extra twenty points or so,
it seems to Marvin, What about you.

Speaker 6 (38:54):
Now, I'm out. It's already enough scoring at the league.

Speaker 4 (38:57):
If they know this could be more scoring, they're more
likely to do it.

Speaker 9 (39:00):
Yeah.

Speaker 6 (39:00):
But if you have four players on your team and
you have the ball.

Speaker 7 (39:03):
You can kill twenty seconds, twenty two seconds whatever before
you have to shoot.

Speaker 6 (39:06):
You got to twenty four second shot clock. You eat
up almost half o'clock with one possession of that minute.

Speaker 2 (39:10):
No, I got an extra guy, So I'm gonna double
team you and then we're going to try to force
you into doing something.

Speaker 6 (39:16):
You got to break the press a little bit.

Speaker 2 (39:18):
Yeah, of course you do. All right, good idea, bad idea,
And the answer is bad idea. But you know, maybe
you could email it to the league. They love hearing
from us early in the morning, Todd and say, hey,
if you guys ever, no, don't do that. I'm not
going okay, don't do that.

Speaker 4 (39:36):
Don't do that.

Speaker 2 (39:38):
Robert and Milwaukee, Hi Robert, what's on your mind?

Speaker 4 (39:40):
Good idea, bad idea?

Speaker 11 (39:42):
Hey Robert, Hey, I'm curious how how Luca winning this
title would affect Tatum. And I also wanted to give
Marvin a shout out because I.

Speaker 13 (39:53):
Only know him as the other daynet So, who the
hell missus?

Speaker 10 (39:56):
Nick Levin?

Speaker 2 (39:58):
No body all right, all right, mcclevin hears this, and
then you know, Pauli'll get a text message, or I
might get one. Hey, what are people saying about me.
We love McLevin, We appreciate all the time that he
put in, but we moved on. He moved on. We
moved on, and we got Lou garrig here. Mccleven got wallypiped.

(40:24):
He wally pipped himself. You're Lou Garrick. No one forced
him out, No, no they didn't. But look, whenever we
see McLevin, it's always great, happy that he's doing well,
all right. Eight seven to seven three DP show email
address DP at Danpatrick dot com, Twitter handle at DP show.
The Chicago Bears are going to be on hard docks.

(40:44):
So this is the training camp. Not to be confused
with pre training camp hard docks the New York Giants,
because when it comes to off season, before you even
have training camp the New York Giants, there's some storylines there.

(41:05):
Not but the Bears on hard knocks, there could be
some drama there. One hour in the books on this
meet Friday. Two more to go before we send you
in the weekend, hopefully with a smile on your face.
Hour two coming up
