No?

Speaker 2 (00:27):
No, wow, Man Tyler said, I'm taking a chance here.

then you have a burger and it's called a Luther Burger.

(01:12):
ESPNNBA reporter was at Game one last night. He will
join us, as will the Celtics analyst former Celtic player
Bryan Scalabrini. Celtics roll the Mavericks one oh seven to
eighty nine looked like it was over in the first
quarter as they built up a seventeen point lead. Dallas
made it interesting, cutting it to eight later on, but

(01:34):
it was all Boston all the time. The eighteen point
win matches the biggest Game one win of an NBA
Final since twenty seventeen. That's when the Warriors taught the
Cavaliers won thirteen ninety one.

Speaker 5 (01:48):
Whoa Stall of a Day, Stanta Day, stataa day, Stanavaday.

Speaker 3 (01:57):
This is the stat of the Day.

Speaker 2 (02:02):
Stab of the Day, brought to you by Benini America.
This is where we overreact every sport when something like
this happens to you. Go God, I just don't see
Dallas winning four games against the Celtics team. Now, I
picked Boston, but I don't want to overreact and say
this can't go six or seven. The X factor Christops
Porzingis was great last night the X factor for Dallas,

(02:24):
Kyrie Irving was not. And Kyrie well kind of gave
an open invitation to the Celtics fans to welcome him
in Gain two.

Speaker 6 (02:34):
You know, being in this environment, you know, I'm used
to it at this point. You know, early in my
career there was a different relationship that I had with Boston,
just being able to come here, be settled with a
veteran group. Now I'm here as the veteran over the
past few years, just experiencing the playoffs here, even regular season,
it's been the same thing. I thought it was gonna

(02:56):
be a little louder in here, but I'm expecting the
same things going on. It's a game too crowd trying
to get me out of my element, my teammates out
of my element. But again, the energy's got to be
focused towards the game.

Speaker 2 (03:08):
Yeah, don't encourage them. And if I'm a Celtic fan,
I'd be cheering for him. He's helping you win a title.
The way he played last night, Luka Doncic had one assist.
Now I had thirty, had ten rebounds, but one assist.
They didn't even have double digit assists last night. Now
this is where you can overreact, say they can't stop Boston. Okay,

(03:30):
maybe they can't. You know, Boston, if they're going to
play great defense like this, they are going to win
the title. Their offense was historically great this year. Now
you throw in the defense, that's what makes them so dangerous.
Here you got perimeter defenders, Brown and Tatum are you
know long, you know threes, and they're able to defend
inside and outside. Throw in Porzingis as well Al Horford.

(03:54):
They're a good defensive team, but the offense. The offense
is what's historically great. As for Dallas, you probably look
at this and go, Okay, they can't be this bad
in game two, which is true. They can't be this
bad unless they are, and then they're in real deep trouble.
Luca's going to get his points, but if he doesn't

(04:14):
get his assist, now that it's not his fault. He
only had one assist. You have to make the shots
if you get the ball, and they didn't shoot well
last night. But it was Boston and Boston early and often,
and I would expect the same kind of game plan
that they had. They know Luca's going to score. The
question is can you keep everybody under wraps so nobody

(04:35):
gets squirrely and puts up thirty as well? Eight seven
seven to three DP show email address Dpatdanpatrick dot com,
Twitter handle it DP show.

Speaker 3 (04:43):
Good morning.

Speaker 2 (04:44):
If you're watching on peacock, thank you for downloading the
app poll question today. By the way, Dan Hurley is
on his way to Los Angeles. According to ESPN's report,
he will be meeting with the Lakers later today Rob
Polinka and owner Jeanie Buss trying to finalize this. At

(05:04):
least that's what WOJ is saying. After yesterday, Danny Hurley
did meet with his team, met with executives the administration
at Connecticut just to give them a heads up exactly
what is going on. But going out there and everything
is pointed to Danny Hurley in you know, inside the
Lakers organization, we never heard any of this, and that

(05:26):
WOJ is saying basically all the interviews they did that
was kind of due diligence. Hey, we're going to interview
JJ Reddick, We're going to view these guys, this guy,
this guy, these guys. So, I mean, this broke twenty
six hours ago and now all of a sudden, it's
front burner and it is hot. But I don't think
Danny Hurley's going out there just to go out there.

(05:50):
I think he's already made his point. If Yukon is
not going to up the ante, I don't know if
this is a leverage play. I did wonder that does
he want to stay? Canny stay? They afford him to stay.
And even when you start to look at the landscape
of college basketball, I mean, it's basically become the pros.
So why not coach the pros. You've got to deal

(06:11):
with nil, you got transfer portal, and he's the reason
Connecticut has won those national titles. Now, the players were great,
but you turn over your roster and you still win
another title, and you're even better this past year than
you were the year before. And they're going to go
into preseason as the number one team. There's no other
faces in college basketball. I mean, you could say Bill's self,

(06:34):
but everybody else is gone. Maybe Tom Izzo, but the
legends are gone. Everybody's out. Danny Hurley is the face
of college basketball. Does he want to continue to be
the face of college basketball? This is the jumping off point.
You got a chance to coach the Lakers. You're gonna
make money, You're gonna get guaranteed money, and you got

(06:56):
Lebron at the end of his career.

Speaker 1 (06:58):
Now, that to me is not.

Speaker 2 (07:01):
I don't know if that's advantageous for him to take
the job and go, Yeah, I get to coach Lebron.
It's trickier with Lebron, but you're not going to get
this opportunity. Maybe in two years when Lebron retires or
three years.

Speaker 3 (07:16):
You got this moment.

Speaker 2 (07:17):
I expect him to take the job unless it was
a leverage play and then all of a sudden he
comes back home and says, I'm not leaving Connecticut. But
I was flattered. I thought, I know, out of respect
that I needed to talk to the Lakers in person.
Have they been talking via zoom? Haven't heard anything of
Danny Hurley leaving the East Coast after the season ended.

(07:40):
I'm assuming you probably had those kind of meetings, conversations,
preliminary conversations. Maybe it's an agent talking to the Lakers.
You just never got out. And as Geno Arima said yesterday,
the Yukon women's coach, I have the same agent as
Danny Hurley. I don't know what's going on, but the
fact that Gino the night before leans over to Danny

(08:02):
Hurley at an event and says, you could win championships
with the Lakers, and he said, I didn't know that
the Lakers were going to offer him the job because
Hurley didn't say anything. He just smiled and nodded back. Okay,
we did reach out to see if Danny Hurley could
join us, and we were politely told now he wouldn't
be available, which I certainly understand. But that didn't stop

(08:25):
Todd from reaching out because that's what Todd does.

Speaker 3 (08:27):
All right.

Speaker 2 (08:28):
What's poll question today? Their seatonel counter last night? Was
an anomaly or this series?

Speaker 7 (08:35):
Oh?

Speaker 8 (08:37):
Is that the way this rest of this series is
going to go? Where the Celtics just roll? Or was
it just one of those nights for the Celtics. Well,
I think this is how Boston plays. Now I got
to find out how Dallas is going to play against Boston.
This is what Boston does. They have so many different
offensive weapons and they play really good defense. They played

(08:58):
really good defense last night. Do I think Dallas will
be better?

Speaker 3 (09:02):
Yes?

Speaker 2 (09:02):
And I don't want to overreact and say they may
not win a game. I still see Boston winning this.
They're a better team, but that doesn't mean Kyrie can't
have an unbelievable night. And with Luca and PJ. Washington,
you know, then they're role players. But it's going to take,
you know, a total team effort to beat Boston. And
you know, here's the other thing. Tatum and Brown didn't

(09:24):
have to do much last night. It was really about
Christops Porzingis coming off the bench giving them an offensive lift.
He had three block shots that to me, I'd be
you know, you can say, well, Dallas, look, Kyrie didn't
play well and Luca had one assist. Tatum and Brown
were like, okay, you know, we're just kind of going
through layup lines here. Well, Tatum, for sure, Jalen Brown

(09:45):
was phenomenal last night. He was playing out of his mind.
Jason Tatum was sort of out there. But numbers wise,
when they scored twenty two, Brown score like twenty two points,
So it wasn't anything where you go, oh my gosh,
he put up forty.

Speaker 8 (09:59):
Yeah, but he had some monster blocks, He had some
few He had a hell of a night for himself. Now,
if I'm the Mavericks, I'm looking at like, is Kris
tops perzingis really going to be this hot again and
beat us?

Speaker 2 (10:09):
Probably not, No, But then you're gonna have somebody else
who can you know, can he be? And I would
run him as much as I could. Whoever he's guarding,
I would run him and just see, you know how
healthy he's going to be for the entire series. You know,
same thing with Luca. I don't think Lucas one hundred percent.
I think that knee is bothering him. So I would

(10:31):
do the same thing, different defenders on him, different looks
on him, and be prepared, you know, because I think
what happens in Game two is really going to set
the stage for you know, how long this series goes.
We'll get phone calls coming up here. Is Chris tops
porzingis talking about coming off the bench last night.

Speaker 9 (10:49):
From day one, I came here and I said, like,
I'll do whatever it takes to help the team win.
Right then, I think it was this situation, you know,
it made sense and and I didn't care.

Speaker 3 (11:01):
I didn't care.

Speaker 9 (11:02):
I knew I could prepare to come off the bench,
which is something different from me. And that's what I did,
and stepped into that role and embraced it and had
a good game.

Speaker 2 (11:12):
All right, we'll get to some phone calls here each
seven seven three DP show operator Tyler is standing by
Buddha in San Francisco.

Speaker 3 (11:20):
Hi, Buddha, how are you today? Buddy? Yoh buddy?

Speaker 10 (11:27):
What's up?

Speaker 7 (11:27):
DP?

Speaker 5 (11:28):
What's up?

Speaker 11 (11:28):
Boys? Happy Friday?

Speaker 4 (11:31):
DP?

Speaker 10 (11:31):
What a clutch clutch interview yesterday with Gino. I mean,
I thought it was timely obviously. I thought it was
revealing and another example of you doing your thing, Dan,
Well done son onto the Lakers DP. You have to
understand how exhausting it is to be a Lakers fan.
I mean all of the hoopla that comes with Lebron

(11:55):
and now his son and now Dan Hurley.

Speaker 7 (11:58):
I mean, like, let's go.

Speaker 10 (12:00):
I mean I love that, but I think, like, what
a great get, But what does that really look like
for Dan Hurley's future?

Speaker 11 (12:06):
Dan?

Speaker 10 (12:06):
I mean, I mean honestly, like, give me the Nick
Van Exel, Eddie Jones, George Lynch, Lakers. I'd take that
in the second. Right now, Dan, I'm like, this is exhausting.

Speaker 3 (12:18):
Thank you, Buddha. Have a great weekend. And people are
mixed on this.

Speaker 2 (12:22):
I think it shows you know, some thinking out of
the box on behalf of the Lakers and instead of
having somebody in there that you can get rid of
or you don't respect. You know, Darvin Ham gets you
to a Western Conference finals and then he's out of
a job. Frank Vogel wins a title and then he's
out of a job. Luke Walton, I mean, you've had

(12:43):
these guys. Now you're getting the face of college basketball
develops players. Certainly has passion, energy, and it's a different voice,
and I think that's what you need. I mean, when
you look at the NBA, there aren't great coaching candidates there.
I think we think, oh my gosh, Pat Roley's going

(13:03):
to be walking in I mean Doc Rivers went kind
of kicking and screaming to coach the Bucks, and then
even coaching them was like what am I doing? You know,
Pop Re signed in San Antonio, He's got Victor Wembenyama.
But you start to think like Mike Budenholzer. I mean,
come on, Monty Williams. I don't know who's a great
coach anymore. Spolster is great, maybe the best coach in

(13:28):
the NBA, but you have to have consistency there. If
you have a bad year or something happens in the playoffs,
you can't go, oh, we got to blow this up.
And that's the you know the owners nowadays, front of
office it's like, oh my gosh, we got to do
something now, But you don't if you truly believe in
that person. That's what I would want to know. If

(13:49):
I'm Danny Hurley, do I have any say? I don't
have to have, you know, the final say or total autonomy.
I have to have some input here if I'm going
to do this. This is what I want the number
of years I want to get paid and I want
to have a voice here. And if that's the case,
then I understand it. But the days of oh, do

(14:13):
you want to go for a three peat? Three peats?

Speaker 3 (14:15):
Nice? I mean, okay, do you have a three peat? Okay?

Speaker 2 (14:22):
Now what Oh well stay for a four peat? Maybe
you're the next John Wooden. Well, basketball has changed so
much now. John Wooden had the same people, same players,
staying for four years. Coach k for the most part
of his career, had the same players staying for three
or four years.

Speaker 3 (14:39):
It doesn't happen anymore.

Speaker 2 (14:41):
It's tougher, and I think if Danny Hurley is interested
in let me challenge myself in his early fifties.

Speaker 3 (14:52):
Go get him.

Speaker 2 (14:52):
He can always come back to college basketball. Whatever it's
going to look like when he comes back. Yes, if
it was a different team, like forget it's the Lakers
with Lebron James. Yeah, what if the Celtics don't win
the title and there could be an opening there for
the Celtics just you know, just I mean, you got

(15:14):
a factor in all of this. If Joe Missoula is
not able to win a title here, do they just
Brad Stevens go, Hey, you know what, I'm gonna go
get me a college coach.

Speaker 3 (15:24):
I'm gonna get Danny Hurley.

Speaker 4 (15:27):
Yes, Marv, I have the pen for Dan Hurley to
sign right now with the Boston Celtics. There's no way
you could pass that.

Speaker 3 (15:33):
Up the Boston Celtics easily.

Speaker 2 (15:35):
Yeah, but he might not get that opportunity because he
might be taking the Lakers job today.

Speaker 7 (15:39):
Now.

Speaker 3 (15:40):
I don't even know if he's going to take the job.

Speaker 2 (15:42):
I just thought of it last night that there's so
much pressure riding on Boston and if you don't win
the title, do they go you know what we need
to blow this up, or we need to change coaches here.
I wouldn't do that, but I don't, you know, I
don't know what Brad Stevens would be thinking anybody else
or the ownership there. If I'm the Lakers, if he's

(16:03):
your guy, everybody's in on it. You're excited about this,
then go go get him. Don't let him come back
to Connecticut without the title of head coach of the
LA Lakers. If he comes back, that's when I would
start to doubt this a little bit.

Speaker 7 (16:19):
There.

Speaker 2 (16:20):
All right, we'll get phone calls. It's a Meet Friday.
Glad you're part of the program. Dave mcmanhamon, who covers

(17:50):
ESPN NBA reporter who joins us from Boston. Give me
the proper reaction to last night's game.

Speaker 13 (17:59):
I think you should be in pressed with the Celtics
and it was a reminder that despite not being battle
tested through the first three routes, because they based opponents
that were missing their stars that they were the number
one team throughout the regular season for a reason. And
if Dallas is going to be in this series, it's
going to have to look like it did in the
third quarter, which was ferocious defensive effort and Luke at

(18:22):
the conscience being otherworldly. But they got to be able
to extrapolate that over forty eight minutes.

Speaker 3 (18:27):
Can they.

Speaker 7 (18:30):
I think they can.

Speaker 13 (18:31):
I don't think we're going to see every game being,
you know, just a passing clinic from the Celtics on
one end and them thwarting everything Dallas tries to do
on the other, as we saw for most of the
first half, and certainly in that fourteen ozer run that
the Celtics responded with in the third after Dallas cut
it to eight. But I think there was a statement

(18:54):
type of win for them in Game one. And I
talked to some of the guys on the team leading
up to the Game one and it was a really
competent group.

Speaker 7 (19:05):
You know.

Speaker 13 (19:06):
I ran into Sam Coussel the night before Game one
out in the North End and he was saying, like,
we're rested, We're ready. We don't necessarily have to have
any guy be great to win this series, whereas they
kind of need Luca and Kyrie to be great to
have a chance against us. It's a group that feels

(19:28):
like this is their moment.

Speaker 3 (19:30):
What did you make a Kyrie's performance or lack thereof
last night?

Speaker 7 (19:36):
I was surprised to see it, quite frankly.

Speaker 13 (19:37):
I mean, obviously he was the storyline coming in because
of his history with the Celtics, and he was great
in the Western Conference Finals, but it was mostly in effective.

Speaker 7 (19:49):
Even when he got into the paint, they seem to
find ways to siphon him off.

Speaker 13 (19:55):
And I was interested in his postgame comments where where
you know, he was kind of taking a thirty thousand
foot view in terms of, well, we're good to get
this finals experience under our belt, for maybe showing his
hand a little bit where he thinks this could be,
you know, kind of a tough learning series for his

(20:19):
team that.

Speaker 7 (20:19):
They may have to build on in the future.

Speaker 2 (20:21):
Yeah, I'm watching last night and I marvel at Boston's offense.
I think it is I mean, it's been historically great,
and then you throw in the defense, you know they're
not going to be beaten. Dallas can win this series.
I don't want to overreact to it. I have Boston
winning this. I just think that offense is really really
difficult to try to stop. And now you bring Porzingis

(20:44):
off the bench, is he going to come off the bench?
Is that his role going to be in the in
the finals?

Speaker 7 (20:50):
You know, well, Joemy Willis said there would be no
minutes restriction on him.

Speaker 13 (20:53):
Obviously it worked the rotations that he was getting against
Dallas personnel, and so I would imagine at least for
Game two that would be the plan.

Speaker 7 (21:05):
But you know it, quite frankly didn't necessarily matter.

Speaker 13 (21:08):
As great as Perzingis was twenty points eight for thirteen, shooting,
six rebounds, three blocks, he was just one part of
the cog. Now, I will say his initial energy got
the crowd into a tivy and it was a sight
to behold. I think when we talked about the annals

(21:28):
of NBA history and in the future, and we talked
about a guy coming back from an injury.

Speaker 7 (21:33):
And not skipping a beat, this will be the example
a that we point to of Christops.

Speaker 13 (21:40):
Zingis performed thirty eight days missing because that calf strain,
and you know, was as confident as any play on
the court.

Speaker 2 (21:50):
Talking to Dave mcmanhamon the ESPN NBA reporter, I know
you primarily cover the Lakers. Danny Hurley is reportedly headed
out to Los Angeles to meet with the front office.

Speaker 7 (21:59):
Here.

Speaker 2 (22:00):
You know, we're what twenty six hours into this, at
least publicly into this. What do you expect is going
to happen when Danny Hurley gets to LA and meets
with Jeanie Buss and Rod Polinka.

Speaker 13 (22:14):
I think he's going to wow them and validate the
reason why they've been so interested in him, or I
can say it's been longer.

Speaker 7 (22:23):
Than twenty six hours. But Adrian Windardowski, you know, he.

Speaker 13 (22:27):
Has all the details and the reporting, the guy that
is intense but also has, you know, a sense of
humor and a relatability.

Speaker 2 (22:40):
But does he have to sell himself, Dave to the
Lakers or the Lakers selling the Lakers to Danny Hurley.

Speaker 7 (22:48):
It's a great question.

Speaker 13 (22:49):
Dan, You're trying to pry a guy from maybe one
of the most stable positions in a wildly unstable at
CBLA right now. You know he can write the stickt
as the mayor of stores Connecticut for years to come
because of the back to back titles. So yeah, the Lakers,
I think financially will have to come with a real

(23:12):
package and also longevity wise, come with a real package.
But Danny Hurley, as Woljes has reported, is interested in
the challenge of the NBA, and you know, as a
tree of the Hurly family coaching ming branch of the

(23:34):
Hurly family coaching tree that has been such an in
vital part of the game of basketball for forty fifty
years now, they want to branch out into the NBA.

Speaker 7 (23:46):
It's not just for him, but it's for Bobby, it's
for his father as well.

Speaker 13 (23:50):
And what better you know, franchise other than maybe the
team that's up one zero in the finals, than to
coach the Lakers.

Speaker 7 (23:59):
So you know, the sense I get is Danny is already.

Speaker 13 (24:04):
Very intrigued here, and you know, obviously the Lakers aren't
here to waste time. So I think it's kind of
a mutual.

Speaker 7 (24:14):
Do we both.

Speaker 13 (24:17):
Have the same feeling and when we sit in the
same room, does it still feel the same as when
we dreamt it up over the last few days in
our minds? And I think if that feelings there, the
Lakers are certainly as Wolsh is reported prepared to come
with a massive offer.

Speaker 2 (24:33):
Okay, but what's he walking into here? Is this a
desirable job? I know it's the Lakers. You get to
coach Lebron, but you're coaching Lebron at the end of
his career. You have to factor in the Browny situation.
AD's future there, the role players there. The West is stacked.
Danny Hurley is walking into what.

Speaker 7 (24:56):
You could look at it that way.

Speaker 13 (24:57):
You also look at it as a team that was
the seven in the West that finished the second half
of the season twelve games over five hundred, a team
that played the defending champion Denver Nuggets to a close
battle in all five games in the first round, and
a team that is playing in an NBA that doesn't

(25:21):
in all due respect to the Celtics, but there's not
like an unbeatable juggernaut out.

Speaker 7 (25:25):
There right now.

Speaker 13 (25:26):
And so with buy in from a roster and you know,
some assets that the team has in the cupboard in
terms of those three first round draft picks that they
could attach to some of the salaries they have right
now to retool a bit.

Speaker 7 (25:41):
I think there's opportunity that he should be seeing and.

Speaker 13 (25:45):
Certainly if what we've seen from Lebron James publicly on
social media in terms of praising Dame Hurley's fastball acumen,
if he's going to be there with buy in, I
don't think there's to me that sounds like a good
basketball situation step into not a bad one.

Speaker 3 (26:06):
I'll leave you with this.

Speaker 2 (26:07):
The commissioner talked about expansion yesterday with this State of
the Union address to the media. What cities do you
believe are in play and what do you think the
timeframe is going to be for expansion.

Speaker 13 (26:20):
I believe this for a long time that the cities
at the top of the list would be Seattle in
Las Vegas. Adam threw us for a loop, just slightly
bringing up the idea of international expansion, mentioning Canada again. Obviously,
Vancouver once had a market before, and the league has
played exbibsient games in Mexico City. Obviously, proximity wise, you're

(26:43):
not really thinking about international expansion to Europe, you know,
or Asia right now, unless they were to open up
an entirely different division. But you're talking about probably a
year into the TV deal, you know, maybe it's six
twenty seventh season. We could be looking at a team
and that certainly would give a new franchise. Well, obviously

(27:06):
there's already an arena in Las Vegas, but they were
given you a new franchise time enough to kind of
build up all their infrastructure from the ground up.

Speaker 3 (27:17):
Thanks for joining us as always, Dave, we appreciate your time.

Speaker 7 (27:21):
Great to see it, Dn.

Speaker 3 (27:21):
That's Dave McManaman, the ESPNNBA reporter. Once again.

Speaker 2 (27:25):
Danny Hurley is reportedly en route to Los Angeles to
meet with the front office there with the Lakers. A
couple of phone calls in here Andrew and Washington. Hey Andrew,
what's on your mind?

Speaker 11 (27:39):
Good morning, Dan, Denned's happy meet Friday, and thanks for
taking my phone call. As I expect Danny Hurley to
be announced to La Lakers new head coach after five
o'clock today The five o'clock Friday News, Dum, I'll fishly
welcome Marvin to Laker Nations. So Marvin come with us
from Yukon to the Laker Nation.

Speaker 7 (27:57):
Congratulations.

Speaker 11 (27:58):
But about last night's game, Dallas just didn't look like
they were ready for it. They had their lowest assist
all playoffs in a game at nine. They had their
second lowest three pointers made and second most three point percentages,
which is the Boston defense, so they only had seven
threes at twenty five point nine percent. I see this

(28:18):
as a gentleman's sweep five.

Speaker 7 (28:21):
Games Boston wins.

Speaker 11 (28:23):
The reason being is it seems like Boston just they
have a game where they just don't shoot well, and
usually it's game two, so they I'm looking for them
to lose next game and then win three more for
the title, and I think Boston will win it. But Kyrie,
I think they'll time up most of the series. He
might have a good game, but I just don't see
Kyrie and Daunchik solving this defense of the Boston Celtics.

Speaker 2 (28:44):
Yeah, it's underrated. We focused on their offense. Thank you, Andrew.
I have a good weekend. You know, Kyrie had open
looks too. It's it's sometimes when you're watching, you go, boy,
that defense is really great. Every shot is contested. He
had open looks too, just didn't make them. But you know,
they got out and they were overwhelmed down by seventeen.

(29:06):
They did come back made it interesting there. Down by
eight and then two back to back traveling calls, which
has probably never happened in the history of the NBA
Finals in a game back to back traveling calls.

Speaker 8 (29:18):
Yeah see, I know, you know when you're watching the
game and it's clear that, I mean, the Celtics are
just destroying the Mavericks, it's not even close. But then
they cut it to it got to about like sixteen.
You're like, dang, this is way too close. And then
they then they cut it to eight. They're like, this
is two shots, and they're right. I mean, they were
already right back in this game. I don't feel like,

(29:39):
if I'm the Mavericks, I don't look at that game
as the worst thing in the world, because there's no
way Perzingis is going to be that hot again, while
Kyrie is also that cold. And even with this absolute
punishment of a game that you're taking, whether you lose
by thirty or you lose by five, it's still just
a loss. I don't know we were able to cut it.

(30:01):
They were destroying If I'm the Mavericks, they were destroying us,
and we still cut it back to eight.

Speaker 2 (30:05):
Yeah, but it takes so much energy to fight back
to cut it to eight. And that's where you see
teams like, man, they're making it close. But they've expended
so much energy to get to we're down eight. You
can't be down by seventeen or twenty. You just can't
to a team like that in Boston.

Speaker 8 (30:22):
Well, the energy level between the two teams right from
the beginning was apparent. It was like the Mavericks have
no idea what they're doing. It's like they didn't even
realize the game started yet, and the Celtics were already
throwing lobs and like it was crazy.

Speaker 2 (30:35):
Yeah, it's like, wait, I thought we were just shooting
around the game started. Yeah, it started like fifteen minutes ago.
Hey you what's your name?

Speaker 3 (30:42):
Jones? Hey you gotta play?

Speaker 1 (30:44):
What are you doing?

Speaker 7 (30:45):
Yeah?

Speaker 4 (30:45):
Yeah, Marv and Jalen Brown had a nasty dunk going
down the lane, and it felt like those two points
felt like eight points, just because he got the crowd
into it. And then the lead even got bigger than
it already was.

Speaker 2 (30:58):
And in case you're watching on Peacock, Marvin has a
T shirt. If you're not watching on Peacock, Marvin has
a hammer MC hammer T shirt from your childhood days
that your mom found yesterday.

Speaker 4 (31:09):
Yes, she called me yesterday, Marvin. I found that shirt
you've been looking for.

Speaker 3 (31:14):
It fitted pretty well.

Speaker 4 (31:15):
Yeah, and it was an Excel. I was like, I
don't remember being that big. She was like, I remember
being eighteen dollars. How big were you in nineteen yeah,
eighty nine?

Speaker 3 (31:22):
Like, were you a little heavier than you were leading on?

Speaker 2 (31:25):
No?

Speaker 3 (31:25):
No, you were in Excel at nine.

Speaker 4 (31:28):
No, no, no, it's Marvin. I don't think they had
any kid shirts.

Speaker 3 (31:35):
Oh oh, is that what it was?

Speaker 4 (31:39):
That's that's my story, all right? Sure, on the back
of everybody.

Speaker 3 (31:43):
You were you Husky back then?

Speaker 2 (31:45):
Yukon Husky you were. Yeah, you're Yukon Husky now. Jared
in Georgia, Hi, Jared, Welcome.

Speaker 3 (31:52):
What's on your mind?

Speaker 11 (31:55):
Hey Dan?

Speaker 14 (31:55):
Hey Dan, that's Friday to y'all. I've got two things.
One's a question with a little recently biased probably, but
it's the Celtics.

Speaker 11 (32:07):
Doo dn't win championship and.

Speaker 14 (32:09):
Jalen Brown plays well, could that help overtake the number
one position in the Celtics over Tatum or if the
two of them are together, still will Tatum just always
be the number one option? And my second thing is
today is my birthday. I turned the Big three zero.
If I could get a big, happy birthday.

Speaker 3 (32:28):
I would appreciate it all right all together.

Speaker 2 (32:31):
For Jared, I don't know if it matters who's the
number one option or number two option. It's nice to
know that you could have two different number one options
there and they would acknowledge that. Kyrie has said he
knows he's a complimentary figure to Luca. Jalen Brown should

(32:55):
not take a back seat to Jason Tatum and vice versa.
You should want to be the goats. You need to
have that mentality, and we haven't seen that consistently from
them on the big stage. But Jalen Brown was the
Larry Bird Eastern Conference Finals MVP. He should have every
thought in his mind that hey, I can be the

(33:16):
finals MVP, and I wouldn't be surprised at that. But
I wouldn't be surprised if Jason Tatum is going to
be that. And I think the odds on favorite are
still Jason Tatum and then Luca the two best odds.

Speaker 3 (33:31):
Yeah, Paul, has there ever.

Speaker 5 (33:32):
Been an NBA team where the two stars were considered equals.
There was never a time when Kobe and Shack were equal.
It was Kobe was the lesser player early and they
kind of took over from Shak. I'm sure they're equal
some point, but like Jordan was always way better than Pippin.
Steph Curry I think is noticeably better than Klay Thompson.

(33:52):
These guys feel like they're pretty equal right now.

Speaker 2 (33:55):
Stocked in In Malone, Yeah, that's good, probably equal, obviously
doing different things.

Speaker 3 (34:02):
Yes, Todd, that's what I was thinking to Malone in Stockton.

Speaker 4 (34:05):
Okay, Marvin Malone is Stockton the words out of my mouth.

Speaker 3 (34:09):
Okay, Yeah, I don't know.

Speaker 4 (34:13):
We're forgetting Jordan Pippin.

Speaker 3 (34:16):
No thanks, see, yeah, it's kidding.

Speaker 2 (34:19):
I mean you go back to Elgin, Baylor and Jerry
West were probably similar. But that's a long long time ago.

Speaker 7 (34:26):
Uh.

Speaker 3 (34:26):
And I'm looking at championship teams.

Speaker 5 (34:30):
Because it feels like Jalen Brown is catching up quickly.

Speaker 2 (34:33):
Yeah, I think he's there. I just think we don't
recognize him because we I don't know. You keep saying, no,
it's Jason Tatum's team. I don't know whose team it is.
I guess it is his. But if I'm Jalen Brown,
I don't go. Hey, I'm just going to take a
step back. I'll react to whatever you're doing Jalen Brown
played wonderful Eastern Conference Finals, and he played great again

(34:54):
last night. Yes, Mar Garnett and Paul Pierce.

Speaker 3 (34:58):
Yeah, yeah. Oh wait, Wade and Lebron.

Speaker 5 (35:03):
When Lebron first got there, Wade was still a pretty
pretty good player.

Speaker 2 (35:06):
Yeah, he was a good player. When Lebron left, Why yeah,
I'd probably say those two were kind of equal. All right,
let me take a break. We'll get to more phone
calls coming up. Brian Scalabrini, he's the Celtics analyst. He'll
join us coming up a little bit later on morphone
calls as well.

Speaker 1 (35:24):
Back after this, be sure to catch the live edition
of The Dan Patrick Show weekdays at nine am Eastern
six am Pacific on Fox Sports Radio and the iHeartRadio WAP.
Oh my God.

Speaker 3 (35:38):
The play of the day. This is the play of
the day.

Speaker 7 (35:46):
Check this out.

Speaker 1 (35:47):
Eric White picked up by Lively on the switch for
Porzegus against Jostled office spot.

Speaker 3 (35:54):
Fake. Porzekas steps to the titles circle and hits again.
Forty days and forty nights he spent away for the Celtics.
He's been back on the floor.

Speaker 8 (36:03):
For ten minutes.

Speaker 3 (36:04):
He's got fifteen points.

Speaker 2 (36:06):
Porzingis had twenty points in twenty one minutes off the bench.
All five Celtics starters scored in double figures. That's courtesy
of the Sports Hub, Celtic's radio network. That's your play
of the day. Play of the Day brought to you
by the great folks at Kings Hawaiian. They want you
to get together with family, friends and food this weekend.
Make every Sunday a Slider Sunday. Update the poll results

(36:29):
if you can, Seaton, Yeah, I'd be happy to Dan.
We got two of them going.

Speaker 8 (36:34):
Let's see first up we've got last night was an
anomaly or what this series is? Fifty five percent of
the audience think that this is what the series is
going to be. Okay, and then we put up there
the series will be over in five games or fewer,
or six or more okay. That's at fifty two percent
of the audience have it going six or more.

Speaker 2 (36:56):
I'm gonna be wishful reporting here and say six more.
I think Dallas will give you a couple of really
good games. Question is it's the other games when you
might not play great, When you have a team that
doesn't play great and wins a game, it's such a
luxury because you somehow find a way to win. That's

(37:16):
what Dallas is probably going to have to do. There'll
be a couple of games where they might not play great.
They just have to find a way to win. Last night,
they never gave themselves that opportunity down by seventeen after
the first quarter. Steve in California, Good morning, Steve. What's
on your mind today?

Speaker 7 (37:34):
Marren?

Speaker 15 (37:34):
Guys, thank you so much for taking my call.

Speaker 7 (37:36):
Love you, love you guys all.

Speaker 15 (37:39):
I'm a huge hockey fan. So because your for the
Panthers are starting the Standle Cup Final tomorrow, I came
up with five Dan and Danette themed hockey puns that
may or may not continue, but might actually educate you
just a tiny.

Speaker 7 (37:52):
Bit about the game.

Speaker 3 (37:53):
Oh okay, so I got first.

Speaker 15 (37:56):
If you're an all time great player, of course, you
make the ass Hall of Fame. If you're an all
time great researcher, you make the Angel Polly of Fame.
If you get a penalty for laughing too loudly, you
have to take a seat in the penalty box. Cheating
the penalty box. I'm so By the way, Todd is
my favorite Dan Edge.

Speaker 3 (38:15):
So yeah, yeah, we know that that makes a lot
of sense there.

Speaker 15 (38:19):
Yeah, yeah, I'm only three more, three more to get through.

Speaker 11 (38:22):
Uh.

Speaker 15 (38:23):
If you're on a two on one breakaway, so two
of your guys have the puck and there's only one
defenseman in between you and the goalie, that's called an
odd man rush. If your two players are playing rhyme
time during the play, that's a todd Man rush. If
you're a really good puck puck handler, season puck handler,
they say you've got good hands. If you can do

(38:44):
it while wearing youth sized youth sized gloves, you've got
Marvin hands. And last, and at least, because it is
meat Friday, if you can at least we eat at
least three different meats on meat Friday, then you've officially
scored a Dan hatrick.

Speaker 2 (38:58):
Okay, I'm going to give you a blue on the
last one. The other four you were you were the
Mavericks there after the first quarter.

Speaker 5 (39:06):
Yes, Paul Steve, if something ever happens to Todd or
Todd Lee's front of the job, you're hired.

Speaker 6 (39:10):
No.

Speaker 3 (39:11):
No easy transition, no no, he could never fill that seat.

Speaker 2 (39:16):
Never, Todd, We're we're not doing that to you on
a Friday I'm not going to send you, not going
to send you into the weekend.

Speaker 3 (39:24):
But if we do lose you, then I do have
to fill that suit.

Speaker 2 (39:27):
Do you have to?

Speaker 4 (39:28):
Life goes on?

Speaker 2 (39:29):
Yes, but only if we lost you to the big,
you know, sports radio station in nine Yes, if you
went up to the big, big sports radio.

Speaker 5 (39:38):
Station, it's at least fifty thousand wats that one.

Speaker 3 (39:41):
Yes it is.

Speaker 2 (39:43):
It's bigger than that. John, and Ohio, Hi John, what's
on your mind today?

Speaker 9 (39:49):
Oh?

Speaker 16 (39:49):
First of all, Dan, Happy Father's Day to everybody. Uh
five ten husky two something And got a quick Father's
Day T shirt idea for you in honor of guys
like myself and Marvin did to us. Dad seems a

(40:10):
little wonky, so I was thinking, get a supermin sure,
change it to a WD and then put wonder Dad
on the bottom on the back. Go wonder where the
heck he's atta go?

Speaker 11 (40:23):
Dan?

Speaker 3 (40:24):
All right, thank you, John, Thank you for spending some
time with us. T shirt recommendation.

Speaker 2 (40:30):

(40:51):
Father's day be without Dead Dad's Club shotglasses and T shirts.

Speaker 7 (40:56):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (40:56):
Fun for the entire family. What a morale boost ster.
One hour in the books, Two more to go in
