the series and we'll have more on that coming up.
The Great Jim Jackson from Fox and Turner Sports will

Day is always brought to you by Panini America, the

Panini Trading Cards, The official trading cards of the Dan
Patrick Show.
Speaker 3 (00:56):
Start a continue your collection.
Speaker 2 (00:57):
Now, Paniniamerica, Dot Play the Day Question and of course
Stats of the Day all of that forthcoming, Danny Hurley,
will he decide today? Woade said it could happen his
earliest today because it can't happen any earlier than that.
Speaker 3 (01:13):
But is it Connecticut? Is it the Lakers? I said
on Friday.
Speaker 2 (01:16):
If he comes back home without an agreement, then I
think he's more than likely to be staying with Connecticut.
I have no inside knowledge on this, but I know
how these things work. You're out there, everything's great. They're
telling you all these things. There's one hundred million dollars there.
It's all guaranteed. All you got to do is sign
on the dotted line. Hmmm, let me go back home
(01:38):
and think about it. That's not what you want. But
maybe maybe he just goes back home to say to
his wife and kids and dad and his mom, everything's good.
Speaker 3 (01:48):
We're going west.
Speaker 2 (01:51):
Eight seven seven three DP show email address Dpadanpatrick dot
com Twitter handle it dp shows. So the Celtics over
the maps one five to ninety eight, and we know
the numbers. Trying to come back from a two to
oh deficit doesn't bode well for the Dallas Mavericks as
the series now goes to Dallas. But the Celtics win it,
and the Celtics have won their last playoff series, six
(02:13):
of them when taking a two to lead, and the
first team to have five or more players with at
least thirty points through the first two games in the
NBA Finals. Last time this happened was nineteen eighty seven Lakers.
I believe she had Worthy and Byron Scott, Kareem, Michael
Cooper and Magic. You have a balanced attack here. We
said when the series started that Dallas had to have
(02:36):
a third person. Well, they need a second person because
Kyrie has not played well at all. Now Luca's getting
you thirty and I said, it'll give you a triple double.
But that's not good enough if Kyrie is not going
to hit from three point range. The team is two
for seventeen. You just don't have a chance against a
Boston team that hasn't had to play great basketball. You
(02:58):
had Christops Forzingis in game one, Drew Holliday game two,
Derek White in there. You're not even saying, hey, Tatum
and Brown, you got to put up big numbers. They
haven't done that yet. This is a balanced team. What
is underrated is their defense. They have a variety of
players who can guard a variety of players. Now, you're
(03:21):
not going to stop Luca. You can only hope to
contain him. But they have stopped Kyrie, they have contained him.
Speaker 3 (03:27):
PJ.
Speaker 2 (03:28):
Washington, you know you're going to need a superhuman effort
by Luca and Kyrie to try to come.
Speaker 3 (03:35):
Back and win for the next five. But I'm not
going to.
Speaker 2 (03:38):
Say it's not possible. Because I've been doing this a
long time. You can never say never. It's not something
that I do. But the odds are really, really, really
long that you're going to be able to do it
because I now, granted you can say, hey, Dallas has
kind of been in these games. Certainly last night they
were in the game. Yeah, they're in the game, but
I never feel like they're going to win the game.
(04:00):
There's a difference in that they're the kind of there.
If you're looking at the overall tone of the game,
it's Boston and I'm still waiting for maybe that team effort,
And of course, if you don't get it in game three,
then pretty much say good night here.
Speaker 3 (04:16):
All right?
Speaker 4 (04:16):
Pull question Seaton if you watch too just how much
Luca and Kyrie have to work for every single shot?
Speaker 3 (04:26):
Yeah, that's a great point.
Speaker 4 (04:27):
May they must be exhausted. I mean every single one
is like some kind of like isolation. Go this, go it,
cut in, cut back, dude that just to get a
fade away that maybe they hit man, they just must
be wiped.
Speaker 2 (04:39):
Well, you could see and Paul texts this to us
last night in the group check text that he's gassed.
He was gassed. Now nine minutes to go. You could
see where Luca was like. Plus he didn't even go
down at the other end of the floor. He got
knocked down and then he's like, I'll get you guys
when you come back up here. But yeah, he's working
(05:01):
a lot more and he's not healthy now.
Speaker 3 (05:04):
The ball over a lot.
Speaker 2 (05:05):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (05:06):
Yeah, it's got to be tough too to be like
those two dudes and just look around and be like,
can one of you guys just hit a couple shots please?
Speaker 2 (05:16):
Yeah, haven't had it yet. And granted you could look
at the margin of victory and go all right, you know,
hit a couple of threes, yes, but they're not hitting
those threes and it almost feels like sometimes they're too
wide open or they're they're so contested.
Speaker 3 (05:31):
It's one or the other.
Speaker 5 (05:32):
There.
Speaker 2 (05:32):
Meanwhile, with Boston, Drew Holidays wide open, they're like, all right,
we're gonna check Tatum and Brown. Let me see if
you can hit those big shots.
Speaker 3 (05:41):
And he has.
Speaker 2 (05:42):
Drew Holliday played really well, has played really well. Throw
in Derek White playing great defense. I mean, it's just
a balanced attack. Now, poor zingis not sure. He says
he's playing in Game three. Got re injured again last night.
But you know, now we got to see the best
of Dallas has to offer. Here is the Boston Celtics
head coach Joe Missoula on the individual players on Boston.
Speaker 6 (06:07):
I'm really tired of hearing about one guy or this
guy or that guy, and everybody trying to make it
out to be anything other than Celtic basketball. And everybody
that plays stepped down that court tonight made winning plays
on both ends of the floorest the most important thing, okay.
Speaker 3 (06:19):
And then Jason Tatum.
Speaker 2 (06:21):
He was asked about Jason Kidd talking about who's the
best player on the Celtics, and Jay Kidd said it
was Jalen Brown.
Speaker 3 (06:28):
Where here's Jason Tatum.
Speaker 7 (06:30):
I've been there before and we didn't win, and it's
just like, you know, we're so close to what we're
trying to accomplish. Why would I let my ego or
full of my need to score all the points to
get in the way of that.
Speaker 2 (06:45):
Okay, I'm fine with that. I don't know if Jay
Kid goes go down in my lab here, what can
I do? I'm going to create some controversy.
Speaker 3 (06:55):
Wow, how about this.
Speaker 2 (06:56):
I'm going to say Jalen Brown is the best player
on the Celtics. Okay, you could say that he is
playing the best on the Celtics. Maybe he's not the
best player because Ryan Scalabrini, former NBA player, joined us
on Friday and he does thee he's a Celtics analyst,
and he said, no, No, Jayson Tatum's the best player
because he's taken the best defender. Usually there's going to
(07:19):
be two guys on him. Everybody else has the opportunity
to then have an easier way either to the hoop
or hitting jumpers there. So Jason Tatum, you know, Tatum
has had just a nice series so far, hasn't had
to do anything crazy, and Jalen Brown same way. You
haven't had to have a monster game out of anybody yet.
(07:41):
But you will but I think Jay Kidd trying to
get into the Celtics head of how about this, I'm
going to have those two they'll be rivals on the
same team.
Speaker 3 (07:50):
That'll do it. Maybe not, yes, Mart.
Speaker 8 (07:55):
This feels like if the Celtics pull out this championship,
it's going to be in ten years, Hey Tatum w MVP. Right, No, no, no,
Joe Holliday, dude, really it's gonna be like that, like
Iguadala that one year, not Steph Curry.
Speaker 2 (08:07):
Yeah, but Boston's played well, but Boston's a better team
than Dallas. I think we get caught up in there's
wishful you know, reporting, wishful rooting. If you don't have
a dog in the fight, you're like, man, I'd like
to see Dallas Luca Kyrie. That'd be fun. Okay, Denver
would have been a better matchup with the Celtics. I
(08:28):
know it's only two games, but I said from the outset,
Boston is a better team and that's why they were
going to win.
Speaker 4 (08:33):
Yeah, that's going to be one of those things too.
When it's like Tatum's up for the Hall of Fame
and never won a finals MVP, that's where it comes
back where you're like, oh my gosh.
Speaker 2 (08:43):
Oh we did that. We've done that to step Yeah. Yeah,
never won a finals. MVP Durant won those finals. MVP
Andre Gudala, Dude, I'm like, okay, alrighty okay. A couple
other things, the Front Open, Carlos Alcarez wins the French
(09:06):
and at age twenty one, I think we open the
door and say, come on in tennis, can use you
since most of the players are either retiring, retired or
on the verge of or following an injury with Joker,
but you know, you got somebody that may be likable, talented,
and at age twenty one, Scotty Scheffler won the Memorial.
(09:29):
Now we got the US Open, and we're getting into
this territory that we've only been in this territory once
in the last thirty years, and that is this golfer
versus the field. Scotty Scheffler is in the tiger category
at least in the neighborhood here for this year because
he's won five times. He had a couple of runner
(09:49):
up finishes, and we of course, you know the debacle
at the PGA Championship in Louisville. But now we're getting
into that category, at least into the neighborhood where he like,
Tiger's there and he's on the front porch, and then
all of a sudden, you know, Scotty comes into the
me against the field. Hey, Scotty, not quite in the
(10:10):
driveway yet, but you know, Tiger can see him and
he's waving to him. Scotty Scheffler's there. It's him or
the field. And we've only done that with Tiger. You
can go back, and they probably did it with Jack Nicholas.
Not many golfers in the history or at least modern
day history of golf, have been the me against the field.
(10:31):
But Scotti Scheffler is certainly there. There is nothing exciting
about his game other than he wins.
Speaker 3 (10:39):
That's it.
Speaker 2 (10:40):
The run is exciting, not his golf, And sometimes we
get caught up in that. We like style points. We
like the guy who, like people loved Phil Nicholson. He'd
go for it. You know, sometimes he'd do something, he'd
have some really bad decisions.
Speaker 3 (10:54):
But he's going for it.
Speaker 2 (10:55):
That's the kind of guy we like. Scotty Scheffler, very pragmatic,
just hey, get all right. Put in the middle of fairway,
put it on the green and ane right two putt
this time, Oh he made a birdie there, right, all right,
And then you look up and you go, oh, he
did it again. He doesn't get style points, but he's
not out there for style points. But he's won five
(11:16):
times so far this year. And now you got the
US Open coming up, British Open coming out.
Speaker 3 (11:22):
Now, all of a.
Speaker 2 (11:22):
Sudden, you put yourself in that day. That's one of
the great seasons of all time. And you know we
joked sometimes where that guy could fall out of bed
and get on the first tee and shoot, you know,
seven under. Now we can say that guy can be arrested,
put in jail and go to the first team, like
you haven't been able to do that.
Speaker 3 (11:42):
With anybody else.
Speaker 2 (11:43):
But you know it's not like he can fall out
of bed and shoot six under par. No, he can
get out of bed, get arrested, get out of jail,
and then shoot like five under par.
Speaker 3 (11:53):
Yes, balling.
Speaker 9 (11:54):
Since March first, he started eight tournaments, he's won five.
The other three tied per second, tied for second, and
tied for eighth. After getting arrested before round Yeah.
Speaker 2 (12:04):
The old after getting arrested rested. Excuse you guess.
Speaker 9 (12:07):
How much money's made in the past three months, just
the past three months.
Speaker 3 (12:13):
Fifteen dollars, twenty two million dollars.
Speaker 7 (12:16):
Stat of the day, SAT of the day, bus stat
of the day, stat of the day.
Speaker 3 (12:22):
Here come, here comes that what stat of the day.
Speaker 2 (12:28):
And just to prove that his wife did give birth
to a baby, he had the baby there at the memorial.
There we got to see him holding his baby right
after picking up another whim. All right, any other poll
questions there seat Noel con.
Speaker 4 (12:43):
Well, we had one on Friday. I think we asked
this series will be five games, a fewer, six games
or more? Okay, the audience went pretty overwhelmingly with six
or more.
Speaker 3 (12:57):
I'm gonna throw that up there again today. See if
it comes back to reality a bit. Okay.
Speaker 2 (13:03):
You have the Danny Hurley decision, if he's going to
stay or if he's going to go USA basketball. You
haven't had the official official decision on Caitlin Clark's future.
We'll talk about that coming up. The future on the
Olympic team, whether she was snubbed or not, could she
be an alternate, and the possibility getting back on the team.
But some of the things that have been reported, and
(13:26):
then a lot of people have a lot of opinions
on this because Caitlin Clark right now not on the
Olympic team going to Paris.
Speaker 3 (13:34):
We'll take a break.
Speaker 2 (13:35):
We'll get to your phone calls as we always do
every Monday, each seven to seven three DP show email
address DP at Danpatrick dot com, Twitter handle at DP show.

To seven pm Eastern.
Speaker 10 (14:03):
But here's the thing, we never have enough time to
get to everything we want to get.
Speaker 11 (14:06):
To, and that's why we have a brand new podcast
called over Promised. You see, we're having so much fun
in our two hour show. We never get to everything, honestly,
because this guy is over promising things we never have
time for.
Speaker 1 (14:19):
Yeah, you blubber list name in me.
Speaker 10 (14:21):
Well you know what it's called over promise. You should
be good at it because you've been over promising women
for years.
Speaker 11 (14:25):
Well, it's a Covino and Rich after show, and we
want you to be a part of it. We're gonna
be talking sports, of course, but we're also gonna talk
life and relationships. And if Rich and I are arguing
about something or we didn't have enough time, it will
continue on our after show called over Promised.
Speaker 10 (14:39):
Well, if you don't get enough Covino and Rich, make
sure you check out over Promised and also Uncensored by

little harder. It's gonna be the best after show podcast
of all time.

There you go, over Promising and remember you could see
on YouTube, but definitely join us. Listen Over Promised with
Cavino and Rich on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or
wherever you get your popc caests.
Speaker 2 (15:01):
I was watching the ESPN postgame show. Bob Meyer's former
GM of the Golden State Warriors, says that the current
MVP of the NBA Finals is Brad Stevens in his opinion,
which shouldn't shock you as one former front office guy
to another front office guy, Brad Stevens. But Stevens has
(15:21):
done a wonderful job bringing and Drew Holliday and christophs
porzingis I don't think he'll get any votes for MVP,
but it's nice that Bob Myers did shout out Brad Stevens.
I'm watching the pregame and the postgame and the halftime show.
If you're only going to have like sixty seconds of analysis,
how about we take a couple people off the panel
(15:45):
up there. I mean, it's really it's sad. I used
to do that show. It's tricky. You got to get
in your sponsor. That's that's not the way to do that.
This is the NBA Finals. You should be discussing the finals.
Speaker 3 (15:58):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (15:58):
See, And you got dudes up there who were like,
I'm getting my forty five seconds, even though it's condensed.
I'm getting my forty five seconds because I'm the star.
Speaker 2 (16:08):
And then it cuts into the next person who now
they're in whatever their opinion analysis is now cut down, which.
Speaker 4 (16:14):
I'm not saying necessarily is the wrong thing either. If
you're somebody who like this is sort of built around
to some degree, yeah, get your time, but it just
has to be structured better.
Speaker 3 (16:23):
Right, Yeah, it's just it's too tight there. All right.
Speaker 2 (16:26):
Danny Hurley is probably going to be talking to his
team today this morning I don't know if this breaks
by the end of the show, but it feels like
if there's going to be a decision, that the decision
will happen. This morning, Woade said that, you know, he
came back, He's going to meet with his team.
Speaker 3 (16:44):
That's about all we know here. But I thought on Friday,
if he.
Speaker 2 (16:49):
Came back without an agreement in principle, that he was
going to stay. The numbers are crazy with what the
Lakers reportedly are offering when you're talking about one hundred
million dollars as to what you know Connecticut can offer.
But it's not a I know it sounds strange. It's
always about the money in this case. I don't know
if it is from the standpoint of if he takes it.
(17:12):
It might be because they gave him an offer he
couldn't refuse. But if he stays, he's staying, and he's
going to be compensated. But if he stays, it's more
about what he's built there, his family. He's East Coast,
and he said on numerous occasions on this show about
the importance that his wife plays and that she didn't
(17:32):
want to even think about going to Kentucky when that
job opened up. She wasn't going anywhere, you know, in
the Tri state area. And that's what I think what
he's built and now the pressure if he stays, he'll
get another opportunity for the NBA, and it might be
a better situation as far as the talent that he's
going to go in and coach as opposed to it
is the Lakers. But you are walking into the potential
(17:57):
potential for being a disagrees or uncomfortable or I got
to wait two years until it's really my team. I
commend the Lakers for thinking outside the box here because
this is building a program that you're going to have
for the next seven years, let's say, or longer, and
you're giving him him the opportunity to build that franchise
(18:21):
that how he sees it, and maybe it's a collegiate
type feel of what he's going to have in there.
But Danny Hurley, if you're a Yukon fan, it feels
like every minute that goes by, he's still your head coach.
You know, it's a stay of execution here right now.
But Danny Hurley, Connecticut, the decision and then the fallout
(18:45):
from that. Now, there was a report over the weekend
that maybe maybe former Villanova head coach Jay Wright could
be a coach in waiting a stealth choice that would
be for the Lakers job. Now he stopped, he retired
from coaching and he's been an analyst. But that might
(19:07):
be Mark Stein, the NBA reporter had a stealth candidate
and Jay Wright.
Speaker 3 (19:15):
Okay, Like we've had everybody.
Speaker 2 (19:17):
Trying to cover their rear ends here, like hey, Monny Williams,
and it's like, no, not Monnie Williams, not going to
be Monny Williams. JJ Reddick. Now I heard over the weekend, Hey,
don't rule out j G. I said, I'm not ruling
out anybody anymore. The only thing I'm ruling out is
Darbingham is not going to be coming back in.
Speaker 3 (19:36):
That's it. That's all I know.
Speaker 2 (19:37):
Here because everybody's like, hey, I'm here, in I go.
I don't want to know what you're hearing. I want
to know what you're reporting. I'm hearing made j Wright
maybe stealth choice here, yes, Dodd.
Speaker 8 (19:49):
How do we go from JJ Redick's the guy they're
just waiting for the finals to end, and now he's
slipping in the third, fourth, fifth.
Speaker 2 (19:54):
For these other names I have no idea. I have
no idea. I was told that, you know, this is
a mere formality. They're gonna wait till the NBA finals.
JJ Reddicks's gonna get the job.
Speaker 3 (20:07):
That was a week ago.
Speaker 2 (20:09):
Then all of a sudden, Hey, did you see the
podcast with JJ Reddick and Dan Hurley.
Speaker 8 (20:14):
M h.
Speaker 2 (20:15):
Now, all of a sudden, the Lakers realize the guy
who's being interviewed is the guy we want, not the
guy who's doing the interview, And I went, okay, sure, yeah, Paul.
Speaker 3 (20:25):
What stood out to me is.
Speaker 9 (20:26):
When we had Brian Scalabrini, the Celtics analyst, on Friday,
he said he doesn't see Danny Hurley taking the Lakers
job because of this, you know the state it's in,
and he goes, I could see him using this too,
announce to the NBA. I'm open for business at some point.
I'm a candidate at some point, and I'll take a
much better situation down the road, like have your cake
and eat it too. That he would stay at Yukon
(20:48):
and try to get the three p satisfy a lot
of people, and then when a better situation comes along.
Speaker 2 (20:54):
Yeah, I don't think he owes Connecticut anything. He gave
him back to back titles. He don't know him anything. Yeah,
well I did wonder this was this a leverage play?
And then all of a sudden it got a little
more serious. Now, all of a sudden, he's listening to
them and then they're giving him an offer. Maybe he
can't refuse. But you know, I did speculate that. I said, look,
(21:16):
it's part of my job to look at this from
all different angles, and one was is this a leverage play?
And maybe it's still it still is Maybe you know,
come back and double his salary there and be able
to stay for a little while longer.
Speaker 4 (21:29):
Yeah, it's funny because when I heard Celtics analyst Brian
Scalabrini said, why would Hurley take the Laker's job?
Speaker 3 (21:36):
He can wait for a good job to I.
Speaker 12 (21:37):
Know, it was.
Speaker 3 (21:40):
Just like, oh, we were like, is that analysis or
a shot? I can't really tell.
Speaker 2 (21:44):
Well, when he says, hey, look at the guys they've hired,
you know, they haven't hired the best candidates.
Speaker 5 (21:51):
Now.
Speaker 2 (21:51):
They wanted Monty Williams, they missed out. They wanted Tylo
they missed out. They didn't pay you get you know,
Luke Walton and Frank Vogel and Darvinham. That's not who
you really see coaching the Lakers. Now, pat Riley's not
walking through the door. But still it's the Lakers, and
it's a marquee job. It's in a great city. They
love their basketball, the tradition there. But Scotto Breene, well,
(22:15):
you know, being a Celtic, of course he's going to
bang on the Lakers a little bit.
Speaker 3 (22:18):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (22:19):
So if Dan Hurley him not coming back from LA
with a new job, does that say more about the
Lakers or about Yukon.
Speaker 3 (22:28):
Well, I think you've got to be respectful to your team.
Speaker 2 (22:31):
I think whatever decision you make, you must make that
in front of your team. Or you make your decision,
but you tell your team what you're going to do
out of respect. Now that might mean hey, I'm going
to leave, or it might mean hey I'm coming back.
Speaker 3 (22:46):
But I don't think reaching an agreement out there.
Speaker 2 (22:52):
I don't want to say politically correct, but I think
being respectful to whatever you're going to do, you've got
to go back and do that. At Connecticut, you have
to do it in front of you know, the administrators.
You have to talk to them and your players and
then if you go, you go. But if you stay,
you know we're gonna hear the roars, that's for sure.
(23:12):
But it's a big deal. It's a big deal in
a lot of ways because college basketball in a state
of flux. You don't have any consistency there. We grew
up with a sport there was consistency. You knew the
coaches were and the players were going to be there
for two, three, maybe four years. It's not the case anymore.
You know, we like to know what the product is,
(23:33):
and right now with college basketball, there really is no
consistent product. The fact that it's inconsistent is the product.
Speaker 8 (23:41):
Yes, Marv, I'm just trying to find the silver lining
if Hurley leaves. You know what, I got to use
the doctor Sue's quote, don't cry because it's over, Smile
because it happened.
Speaker 3 (23:51):
I'm already.
Speaker 9 (23:51):
You're no bumper sticker, You're no butper sticker. Wow, you're
going to sign on the wall of a woman's house.
Speaker 2 (23:59):
Live, laugh, love, damn, oh god, he'd pray love, Like,
what's going on here?
Speaker 3 (24:04):
Mark? Are you going to cry? Just prepare myself? Okay?
If Hurley goes to the Lakers, are you going to cry.
Speaker 8 (24:13):
Cry no, okay no, but I will be happy for him.
Speaker 3 (24:17):
Yeah, then I'll ask for tickets.
Speaker 9 (24:19):
Okay, Marvin's in the justification phase of Then there's the
other story. Then there's the other's story, and that's Caitlin
Clark didn't make the Olympic team. Now has it been official,
but there's reporting out there.
Speaker 3 (24:35):
But she was told that.
Speaker 2 (24:36):
She was not going to make the Olympic team going
to Paris. Was she left off on purpose? Was it
a snub? And I'm looking at the criteria here that Now,
it's a committee. It's not a coach who makes the decision,
it's a committee. Here is the criteria for the committee
(24:57):
they are They evaluate on several with several factors. Attitude,
adaptability to the international game, likelihood of contributing to team's success.
There's nothing in there about popularity. They do have nine
players with Olympic experience. What we've seen is six of
(25:18):
the twelve roster spots are from two teams, Phoenix and
Las Vegas. It doesn't matter if Caitlin Clark is on
that team or not. The United States is an overwhelming
favorite to win the gold medal. They don't need Caitlin Clark.
But everybody has an opinion on Caitlin Clark no matter
(25:38):
what the situation is. And if you're going to put
her on the team, who are you taking off? And
if you don't know who's on the team, then you
really shouldn't be involved in this conversation. Let's just be fair,
be fair to the players who have been great. Granted
you may not know who they are. They're not stylistic
like Caitlin Clark is. There's a lot of things that
(26:00):
factor in at play. Everybody has an opinion and we
just need to go to our neutral corners here just
to understand everything about this because she's not the first
player that I would put on the team if there
is an injury. Now there's two players that have injuries
or Britney Grinder's played one game. Should she be on
(26:21):
the Olympic roster? Chelsea Gray has a foot injury. I
don't know if she's going to make the team. She
got invited, I don't know if she's going to be
able to play. Britney Griner with one game I think
that she's played. Should she be on the roster? Now
you might go, hey, we need to have some big
people It's a guard heavy roster there, but there's a
(26:48):
Rique Ogumbalwale should be on the team before Caitlin Clark.
She's twenty seven, she's averaging twenty seven a game. She's
an All Star for the last four years. This might
be her only you know, opportunity. Great player out of
Notre Dame hit the shot that won a national title.
But if you said Caitlin Clark deserves to be on there,
(27:12):
deserves is a I think that's open to interpretation. Deserve
Do I want eyeballs on the Olympics. If I'm NBC
and having been the host of the Olympics, I would
want her because there's going to be more people who
care about that. I don't know if NBC even factored
into this. I did ask about this because if I'm NBC,
(27:34):
I'm creating a TV program here I want you to watch,
and that would give people now here was another thing
that came up. Christine Brennan from You I Say Today
Great columnist. She said that what she heard from two
different sources that the popularity of Caitlin Clark might be
a negative. From this standpoint, if Caitlin's not playing, then
(27:57):
her fan base is going to be upset. Okay, now
that's a report. That's not an opinion, that's a report.
Do I think there's an old school against.
Speaker 3 (28:08):
The new guard? Yes, I do feel that.
Speaker 2 (28:13):
Diana Tarassi is playing in her sixth Olympics. If I
was replacing somebody, it might be her. But then they
might say, look, she's still playing great. She's you know,
she's a spokesperson for the league. She's kind of WNBA emeritis.
Speaker 3 (28:30):
I get it. I understand it.
Speaker 2 (28:33):
But if you're going to say I got to take
somebody off, it might be her. I got to take
a guard off if I'm going to put either one
of these women on there, Caitlyn Clark, and Caitlyn Clark
needs a rest. She does, and I think she would
benefit from that. Here is Caitlyn Clark talking about the snub.
Speaker 13 (28:54):
Honestly, no disappointment. I think it just gives me something
to work for. You know, that's a dream, you know,
hopefully that to be there, And I think it's just
a little more motivation. You remember that, and you know,
hopefully in four years or four years come knock around,
you know, I can be there.
Speaker 2 (29:08):
Yeah, four years, imagine that fanfare in Los Angeles. But
I think she's done a really good job in answering this,
doing her best, saying the right thing. But is this
about growing the game? Is it having blinders on and
putting the best product on the floor. Because you can
make an argument, are they growing the game or could
(29:30):
they grow the game more? With Caitlyn Clark playing in
the in the Olympics, there are players who are better
than her. I know it's a harsh reality for a
lot of people who saw her play in college. There
are at least ten, if not fifteen, players who are
better than her right now, maybe not in a year
(29:51):
or two or three years when the next Olympics roll around.
She even said what I said she needed to do,
and that to get in the weight room and understand
you understand now how the game is played. She turns
the ball over way too much. Yes, she just came
off an unbelievable game where she had seven three pointers.
I know the timing of this is what is odd
(30:12):
awkward because she just had her guest best game as
a pro and now you're saying that you're not going
to make the Olympic team. I wouldn't rule out that
maybe she makes the Olympic team. If a couple of
players bal out due to injuries here, that's something to
you factor in, and then we're going to have the
discussion of you know, did she deserve it? How are
the players the veteran's going to treat her. I mean
(30:35):
more people are talking about the w they're not really
talking about the WNBA. They're just talking about Caitlyn Clark.
And if you watch the players who made the team,
I have no problem with that, but they're certainly one
other player that should be on there before Caitlyn Clark.
And that's a GOOMBWELLI because she she's twenty seven. This
(30:58):
might be her only opportunity and she's twenty six or
twenty seven a game. Also, you know, you have teammates.
That's a big deal to the committee that you have,
you know, like that familiarity as well. That factors in
as well. The Fever are not a good team, and
you know, let's say that they had a really good record,
they might look at Caitlin Clark differently than they do.
Speaker 3 (31:20):
But she struggled.
Speaker 2 (31:21):
So is the team now, I say struggled because of
what we saw in college. She she's still putting up
you know, rookie records. It's just it hasn't been easy.
It doesn't look easy like it did in college. Well,
take a break. Got our play of the day up
next to your phone calls as well. We're back after this.
Speaker 1 (31:39):
Be sure to catch the live edition of The Dan
Patrick Show weekdays at nine am Eastern six am Pacific

This is the play of the day.
Speaker 1 (31:59):
Check this out.
Speaker 2 (32:00):
Pritcher feels it, gets across half court two seconds.
Speaker 3 (32:02):
Putcher from forty five got it. He packed it in.
Peyton Prutcher.
Speaker 1 (32:08):
He's been making that shot all year long. He's been
the one.
Speaker 6 (32:12):
To have to carry the mail on the final couple
of seconds.
Speaker 3 (32:15):
And now on the biggest stage there is.
Speaker 2 (32:18):
He begs wanting to beat the third quarter buses.
Speaker 1 (32:21):
Get up for the dept Jet burger.
Speaker 2 (32:24):
That's courtesy of the Sports Up Celtick's radio network. That
was the only basket that Peyton Pritchard had game a
nine point lead going into the fourth quarter. That's your

Buying should be. Kendall in Houston leads us off. Hi Kendall,
what's on your mind this morning? Hey Kendall By Kendall
Joe and Orlando. Hi Joe, what's on your mind today?
Speaker 14 (33:05):
Good morning fellas.
Speaker 3 (33:06):
Dan.
Speaker 14 (33:06):
At first, I just want to say thank you forgiving
love to the WNBA and the rest of the players.
I understand we're in this hyperbolic time where we all
focus on one player, but cam and Brink is one
of those girls that have been cooping all year. My
question is I started to look back at the past
(33:28):
and the Lakers and Lebron always seemed to be in locksteps.
This was the first time that Rich Paul said, hey,
do what's best for your organization. So with that being said,
Dan Hurley and Jay Wright, those are two culture changers.
What do you think would be the first thing they do?
If you take on a veteran team instead of being
(33:50):
able to rebuild and kind of make a culture of
your own.
Speaker 2 (33:54):
Well, I think that's the hard part for me to understand.
If Danny Hurley is going there and thanks for the
phone call, what do you do other than you have
this roster. Now you're trying to bring your attitude, your style,
your philosophy and make it work with these players. Danny
Hurley gets players who fit his style. Now he's got
(34:16):
to get players that he didn't bring in. He's going
to have a situation where he can't use a transfer portal.
He's going to say, hey, here's my style. How long
does that take to adapt to if you do? And
you got Lebron and ad trying to make sure you
appease them, and that's not what he does as a coach.
(34:37):
He's not there to appease you. You want to appease him.
That's what happens with his players at Connecticut. But he's
taken a roster that's been turned over and made that
team even better than the first one that won the
national title. And that's the tricky part of all of this.
His style, his philosophy, his attitude, his demeanor, personality, and
(34:57):
now you try to put that in with the Lakers,
you know it's a square peg round hole. Kendall and
Houston is back. I Kendo, are you there this time around?
Speaker 15 (35:09):
I am technology Era. Sorry about that, Dan, have fun day.
Speaker 3 (35:12):
Yep, quick, real quick.
Speaker 15 (35:14):
Comment about Kate Leck Clark and not so much about
the Olympics. But it reminds me of Tiger Woods when
he came into the PGA tour. A lot of those
seeing those you know, veteran players, were not too excited
about all the publicity. He was giddy until their checks
tripled all of a sudden, and all of a sudden,
you know, of course he proved how great he is,
but still they had I'll finally accept him because their
(35:34):
paychecks went up so hot.
Speaker 2 (35:36):
Yes, and I brought the story up before. There were
two veteran PGA tour players who said, yeah, let's see
what happens when he plays with the big boys. Now
they had different language there, but it was oh okay.
And then when Tiger said that he won a tournament
with his C game, oh my god, everybody was like, oh,
you got to be kidding me. And then we realized
(35:57):
he did win with this C game. Russ in Louisville, Hi, Russ,
what's on your mind today.
Speaker 12 (36:03):
Hey, good morning, longtime listener three six three two twenty. Yeah.
The reason I'm Colin is I think Scottie Scheffler is
getting a little bit too much. He is, by the way,
(36:32):
I've had brain cancer and sometimes my words don't could
come out real great. But I think he's not playing
against the best competition. And before we coordinate him as
one of the best golfers ever, you know, he needs
(36:53):
to be playing against the best company.
Speaker 2 (36:55):
Yeah, but there's nothing he could do about that, Russ,
and thanks for the phone call. Those players decided that
they were going to go play on the Live Tour.
That's not up to Scotty Scheffler. But when you get
to majors, when these players are there, you know, Scotty
Scheffler is still the guy to beat bryceon de Shamba
or Books Kopka or John Rahm. It's still Scotty Scheffler.
(37:18):
But these players decided that they were going to play
on the Live Tour. I mean, Scotty Scheffler could have
gone to the Live Tour. He decided to stay. And
it's still what the PGA Tour is. It's him against
the field. He doesn't have, you know, John Ram there
and Brooks Koepka and these guys who were seasoned who
had won you know, majors before, But Scotty is beating
(37:42):
the players who are in front of him. Gus in La,
Good morning, Gus.
Speaker 5 (37:49):
Good morning, mister Patrick. Hope you're and the boys had
a great weekend. Best and worthing the weekend. My Dodgers
best the weekend. They you know, they've been slipping a
little bit, lost five in a row here, and then
they walk into the Bronx and take two out of
three from one.
Speaker 3 (38:02):
Hell of a Yankees team.
Speaker 5 (38:04):
It was a good turnaround to see worst of the weekend,
you know. Being a lifelong maker fancy and the something's
two wins away is breaking my heart every single day.
And finally, mister Patrick, you know I love you and
respect you, but I hope and pray you are wrong.
And by the end of the show, Coach Hurley has
informed the team. Sorry, boys, taken my talents out west.
(38:27):
You boys have a great week Thank you.
Speaker 3 (38:29):
Gus. Yeah.
Speaker 2 (38:31):
Look, I don't root for anybody. I root for a
great story. If he stays, it's a great story. If
he goes, it's a great story. But I'm just that
was my gut feeling, and I know the family, I
know his dad, and I just know that territorial poll
that has always been there. Now people said, well Bobby
(38:51):
left and then he went out to Arizona State.
Speaker 14 (38:54):
I go.
Speaker 2 (38:54):
I know, I know. All I know is what Danny
has said on the show and the importance of his parents.
Hour two on the way, more phone calls, best in
words to the Weekend Great analyst Jim Jackson. A little
bit later on as well, we'll take a break. One
hour in the books. More to go on this Monday,
