Speaker 1 (00:00):
Hope you had a great weekend. Everybody. It's our two
on this Monday, dan and The Danette stan Patrick Show.
Come on in stay a while. Good morning. If you're
watching on Peacock, you're listening on our radio affiliates around
the country. Stat of the Day brought to is always
by Panini America, the official trading cards of the program.
We'll get to your phone calls. We will give you
our best and worst of the weekend as well some

(00:22):
of the other sports that happen over the weekend. Hockey
the Panthers up one to zero and the Eiler Stanley
Cup Final Game two coming up tonight. And you had
tennis and maybe the reintroduction of twenty one year old
Carlos Alcarez who wins the French Open. Scottie Scheffler wins
the Memorial. That's five wins for him. And now we're

(00:42):
going into the US Open, speaking of which Tiger will
be in the field, the world's best playing for one
of the great trophies in all the sports, Golf's toughest test.
You can stream live coverage of the US Open and
that will start on Thursday, go through Sunday on NBC
and Peacock other items. You had the Celtics go up

(01:05):
two games to none last night. Beating the Mavericks one
oh five ninety eight two of seventeen from three point
range is not going to get it done. Luca was great,
but not great enough. And you got to have a
supporting cast. Kyrie has to give you at least twenty
five at night, has to and then you hope that
you have a third player because Boston, Boston really hasn't

(01:27):
tapped into their resources. Where you go Tatum and Brown,
you guys got to get your fifty five or sixty
points here. They haven't needed that yet. It's a really
good offense. It's a balanced offense, but more importantly, they
play really really good defense. Danny Hurley expected to decide
today if he's going to take the job or not.
Reportedly going to meet with his team, and I think

(01:51):
one way or another, he was not going to accept
the job or turn down the job while he was
in Los Angeles. He was going to come back and
announce to his team what he's going to do, whether
it's going to the Lakers where he's going to stick.
I did wonder if it was a leverage play still
wonder if it's a leverage play, but it might be
an offer that you can't refuse, and we'll keep an

(02:13):
eye on that story as well. Eight seven to seven
three DP Show email address Dpatdanpatrick dot com, Twitter handle
at DP show. I want to give a shout out
here to Danica Irving. Her dad reached out to us
Steve and said that his daughter has been in a
children's hospital for six days now and she's had six

(02:33):
spinal taps, has another one coming up today. She's seventeen
years of age, she has a brain tumor, and she's
been a big fan of the show and actually loves Fritzy.
So hopefully she'll have a good day today. But Steve,
thank you for reaching out. And Danica go kick some
ass today. All right, See and update the poll results

(02:55):
if you can.

Speaker 2 (02:56):
From the first hour, let's see dan from the first hour,
we've got a repeat of a poll question we did
last week. This series will be five or fewer games,
six or more. Last time we asked this question, fifty
three percent it's six or more games, Okay, Right now
sixty nine percent they're saying five or fewer.

Speaker 1 (03:16):
Yeah, yeah, that's a big switch. I'm still gonna say
six games, Celtics. We'll still I don't think it'll be
a sweep.

Speaker 3 (03:27):
Not over until the first home games the team from.

Speaker 1 (03:30):
The road, thank you. Yeah, the series doesn't start until
the road team.

Speaker 3 (03:37):
Wins till one home team road loose.

Speaker 1 (03:39):
Something like that. Oh wait, Plus, you get all these
stats where you go, you know, the Celtics are eight
to no in NBA Finals whatever, And I go, you
can't give a stat that's based on history because Larry
Bird's not playing, or Bob Coosey's not playing, or Bill
Russell's not they have nothing to do with this series.

(04:00):
But you go, oh, the Celtics had won their last
six playoff series when taking a two oh series lead.
They're eight to no all time in NBA Finals when
taking a two oh series lead. That doesn't mean anything
right now, it sounds great, like, yeah, the Celtics always
win those games. Okay, they usually had the best team
when they did that, and these were different teams, different generations,

(04:25):
different decades. But we like throw it all together as
if you know, Jason Tatum and Jayalen Brown were on
those teams it went eight to oh, silly, what else
do you have see We've.

Speaker 3 (04:36):
Got a snarky one from Paul here.

Speaker 2 (04:38):
Worst decision dot dot dot Dan Hurley if he takes
the Lakers job or USA Basketball leaven Caitlin Clark off
the roster.

Speaker 1 (04:47):
Real so the worst I don't I don't know if
I could say worst, I guess from the PR perspective,
I mean, there'd be more people upset nationwide. If you
know Caitlin Clark's not going to play in the Olympics,
then Danny Hurley takes the Laker job. Everybody's got an
opinion right now in Caitlyn Clark. I don't know if

(05:09):
everybody's going to have an opinion on Danny Hurley, they
might go, yeah, he did, he won two titles. Now's
the time he had a leverage play. He took advantage
of it, and he's going to LA and he's going
to get one hundred million dollars guaranteed. Let's say, I mean,
that sounds like a pretty good decision on his part.
Caitlyn Clark is PR. That's where how can they leave her?

(05:31):
Once again? Everybody's you know, out together he they don't
want to grow the game. I understand all of those things.
I don't think Caitlin Clark's one of the twelve best
players right now.

Speaker 4 (05:42):
Now.

Speaker 1 (05:42):
If you want to have popularity, she's number one. And
it's not even close. Team USA is dominating. They will
dominate again. They always dominate. It's a given they're going
to win the gold medal. Do you want to have
Caitlin Clark on the roster? And if you do, who
you taken off? And how do you tell that person? Hey,
we want to have the popular girl on And Caitlyn

(06:06):
Clark has been playing basketball for almost ten consecutive months now.
She could use a break. I don't want to speak
on her behalf, but from what I've seen, she's gone
through an awful lot. I think this experience is going
to make her better. She even said, hey, good luck

(06:27):
to the team. Now I got four more years here
and I can play in Los Angeles. She's only twenty two.
Everybody on the roster I think is at least twenty
six years of age, maybe twenty seven. And there's a
couple of players who might not be able to make
the roster due to injuries. Maybe there's still a chance
that she's on the team. This is what Team USA

(06:48):
is probably worried about. Caitlyn Clark's on the bench and
she's not getting any run and then the fans get upset. Now,
that was reported by Christine Brennan and their base this
off of you know, basically, do you get along with everybody?
Does everybody like you? Here's some of the criteria with

(07:09):
the committee. Evaluations are based on attitude, adaptability to the
international game, likelihood of contributing to team's success. Okay, I
guess Caitlin Clark could do all of that, but who
are you taking off? And people are going to bring

(07:30):
up Christian Laytner made this? Okay, Nobody cared that Christin
Layner didn't play at all with the Dream Team. His
job was basically to pick up Duffel bags laundry. They
hazed him. And you know, if you're going to play
against Angola and you're going to get seven minutes, like,
nobody was like, what about Ladner? Nobody cared. It's different

(07:53):
and that people keep trying to bring this up. It's
apples to oranges. It doesn't doesn't equate there, Caitlin Clark
is different. The most popular player in basketball right now, Basketball,
all of basketball, everybody's talking about. Everybody's got an opinion.
You know what's happened, how she's played. You know she

(08:16):
should be on the Olympic team. There's jealousy, you know,
race plays a role, sexism play. I mean, everybody has
an opinion about her, and it's not fair to the sport.
And those who are better players than her right now
doesn't mean they're going to be and in you know,

(08:36):
four years, she'll be on the Olympic team. But I
think we're caught up in, you know, just this magnitude
of we want to protect her, we want to hold her,
we want to hugger. Let her just be herself, let
her deal with it. Everybody wants to fight have an
agenda here, and so many people bringing in so many
different things where you're like, wow, I didn't see that

(08:59):
one coming. We're going to compare Caitlyn Clark to Elvis
Presley And I went, all right, didn't see that one
coming and op ed in Tennessee. I think over the
weekend somebody brought that up, Caitlyn Clark and Elvis Presley,
and I went, Okay, I don't see that one. But
once again, should she be on the team, I guess,

(09:21):
But then who you're taking off and she's not even
the first players. I said this before, Marique Ogoon Ballet
should be on that team if you're going to take
somebody off, if somebody can't play. She's had an unbelievable
year and she's earned it. Four time All Star, she's
twenty seven. Might be her only opportunity there, but we'll

(09:44):
wait until it's official. But Caitlin Clark responded to her
being snubbed, Honestly, no disappointment.

Speaker 5 (09:51):
I think it just gives you something to work for
as a dream. You know, I hopefully to be there,
and I think it's just a little more motivation. You
remember that, you know, hopefully in four years or four years
come to back around.

Speaker 6 (10:02):
You know I can be there.

Speaker 1 (10:03):
Yes, yeah, I mean she's saying all the right things,
knowing you know how competitive she is. Uh, you know
she's going to use this as motivation, but her motivation
should be in the off season and getting bigger or stronger.
Understanding this had grind and I think there's still a

(10:24):
chance she's going to make the Olympic roster. Yes, Mark.

Speaker 7 (10:28):
If Kaylin Clark doesn't make the Olympic team, appointment viewing
is going to be July twentieth. The WNBA All Star
Game is going to be the WNBA All Stars against
the US national team. That's going to be one of
those hey over under Kayln Clark at least shot attempts
because she's going to put him up against the US team.
If she doesn't make the Olympic team.

Speaker 3 (10:47):
For sure, that'd be good her versus Tarazi.

Speaker 1 (10:51):
Oh no, boy see. I wondered what role NBC would
have played in this because if I'm NBC, now, you know,
the former head of sports there, Dick ever saw. It
feels like Dick would have probably found a way to
get Caitlin Clark on that team because this is a
TV show and the Olympics are really about your daughters,

(11:14):
your wife or your mom's That's the brilliance of what
Dick Eversaw did with the Olympics, that he made it
a family atmosphere to watch. That's why, you know, gymnastics
was so big, swimming so big, one of these sports
that you can identify with. Now you have this incredible
talent star, but she's not going to be in the Olympics.

(11:40):
But I don't think she's one of the twelve best players.
Not right now. Yeah, Paul.

Speaker 8 (11:45):
If I'm another country I try to acquire before the deadline. Canada,
Netherlands one of those countries. I have no idea her lineages.

Speaker 1 (11:52):
Maybe yeah, maybe check the family tree twenty three and meters.
All of a sudden, you know, got some countries going
claim he's.

Speaker 9 (12:00):
Won eighth Italian let's go come on in.

Speaker 10 (12:03):
Yeah, yes, Mart For the Dream Team in ninety two,
who was the guy was Jordan, the guy that you
had to have on the team, and everybody else was
just kind of, you know, a throwing.

Speaker 1 (12:15):
Well. It was a open up the scrap book. Here's
your roster. You got Ewing and Mullen, you got Barkley,
you got Mike Bird Stockton. You know, it was just like,
come on in, everybody, We're gonna go vacation in Barcelona. Mike,
you get to play golf every day, sometimes twice a day,

(12:36):
even on game day, and let's go have some fun.
And that's really what it was. That was the changing
of the guard in the NBA, because that's when Magic
and Larry and everybody else realized that dude, right there
is the baddest man on the planet. And they saw
that when they did their pickup pickup games. That's when

(12:58):
they saw. That's when they knew that was the one
thing that came out of the Dream Team from the
United States. What came out of the Dream Team is
what you're seeing now around the world and the number
of great players who aren't born here in the United States.
Does Caitlin Clark help you grow the game? She does,
but that's not, you know, apparently a priority with a
team USA. They weren't concerned about that. Their goal is

(13:22):
to win a gold medal. They're going to win a
gold medal. Maybe they find a spot for her on
the roster. Wes in Illinois, Hi, Wes, what's on your
mind today?

Speaker 11 (13:33):
Hi?

Speaker 1 (13:33):
Dan?

Speaker 12 (13:35):
With Caitlin preface by saying, I just purchased my WNBA
pass yesterday, so I'll be much more knowledgeable in the
subject in the future. NBC, no matter what happens with
Caitlin even you know, if injuries and she gets put on,
that'll be great. If she doesn't, NBC solves it in

(13:56):
a moment by just throwing over into the commentator box.

Speaker 1 (13:59):
Yeah, I don't know if she would do that. I
think she would need the time off. But hey, if
I wouldn't rule anything out. If you could bring her
in there as a commentator, a studio analyst could do that,
I would think that she would probably want some downtime there.
She certainly earned that. Luke and Charlotte. Hi, Luke, what's

(14:21):
on your mind today?

Speaker 13 (14:24):
Hey?

Speaker 14 (14:25):
Dan? Got a best and worst of the weekend? My
best is kind of a discovering college baseball kind of
good games over the weekend.

Speaker 1 (14:32):
It was glued to the TV.

Speaker 14 (14:34):
Worse of the weekend while I was watching the college
baseball my Oregon Ducks walking in five batters in a row,
five runs in a row, and then on top of that,
letting up a grand Slam for a nine run inning.

Speaker 1 (14:48):
It was tough to watch. Yeah, it's hard to do.
Where you walk five consecutive batters with the bases loaded,
that would be a walk off of sorts there or
walks off. Brent in Connecticut, Hi, Brent, what's on your
mind today?

Speaker 4 (15:05):
Well?

Speaker 15 (15:05):
Everybody, Hey Fritzi, I'm just check it in to see
how you're right. Home on Friday was after having a
fair share of dip and donut burger. I didn't hear
if any hasna cleanup and walling for it on a Friday,
but I did spend Saturday in Montreal with the F
one rate.

Speaker 3 (15:18):
That's possible.

Speaker 11 (15:19):
Will not have made the international news.

Speaker 1 (15:20):
Okay, that's fair. Uh, Todd, do you want to give
us an update?

Speaker 16 (15:24):
I made it safe and sound and no issues enough
to stop and uh got right home.

Speaker 1 (15:29):
Okay, Well, there was some concern because you were loading
up if you know what I mean I did.

Speaker 16 (15:33):
I was double fisting a couple of burgers with donuts
as buns.

Speaker 1 (15:36):
Yeah, we'll get some more phone calls coming up, and
it's the all new Dan Hurley Game and we'll give
you our best and worst of the weekend. We're back
after this on the Dan Patrick Show.

Speaker 17 (15:48):
Fox Sports Radio has the best sports talk lineup in

Speaker 13 (16:00):
Hey, we're Covino and Rich Fox Sports Radio every day
five to seven pm Eastern. But here's the thing, we
never have enough time to get to everything we want
to get to.

Speaker 18 (16:08):
And that's why we have a brand new podcast called
over Promised. You see, we're having so much fun in
our two hour show. We never get to everything, honestly,
because this guy is over promising things we never have
time for.

Speaker 17 (16:21):
Yeah, you blubber lit me.

Speaker 13 (16:22):
Well you know what it's called over promise. You should
be good at it because you've been over promising women
for years.

Speaker 18 (16:27):
Well, it's a Covino and Rich after show and we
want you to be a part of it. We're gonna
be talking sports, of course, but we're also gonna talk
life and relationships. And if Rich and I are arguing
about something or we didn't have enough time, it will
continue on our after show called over Promised.

Speaker 13 (16:41):
Well, if you don't get enough Covino and Rich, make
sure you check out over Promised and also uncensored, by
the way, so maybe we'll go at it even a
little harder. It's gonna be the best after show podcast
of all time.

Speaker 18 (16:51):
There you go, over promising, and remember you could see
on YouTube, but definitely join us. Listen Over Promised with
Covino and Rich on the iHeartRadio app, app podcasts or
wherever you get your podcasts.

Speaker 1 (17:03):
More phone calls coming up, We're going to play the
all new Dan Hurley game Best and Worst of the weekend.
Somebody on social media echoed what I've been thinking, and
I thought this last night if Caitlin Clark was still
at Iowa and she was going to play one more
year at Iowa. I'd say she was coming back for
a fifth year. So she had built up all of

(17:23):
this goodwill, playing great, you know, a sensation, no animosity
with it, you know WNBA players, any jealousy, none of
that would Would this be a different situation where the
US Olympic Committee would say, we've done this before. We
did this with Christian Latner. We took one college player.

(17:46):
Do you think it would go over better? Well, certainly
than it is now. If they were taking somebody in college. Now,
you still might have pushback of people saying, hey, somebody
is going to lose their spot here. I don't want
to be the person since so we can make way
for her. But if you said, hey, this would be
growing the game for the good of the game, would

(18:07):
it be a different outcome here? And I'm wondering that
because I thought about that last night. If she was
in college because Latner, you know, the committee back in
nineteen ninety had to select a twelve man roster, and
it was understood that the roster would be comprised of
a combination of pro and college players. So this is

(18:29):
the Dream Team. The ten members of the Dream Team
in nineteen ninety one all future Hall of Famers. So
they had a selection show, and then the committee looked
at multiple college players, including Jim Jackson from Ohio State,
who's going to join us next hour. They looked at
Harold Minor Baby Jordan from usc Alonzo Warning Shack, and

(18:54):
then Christian Latner. There's a lot of people who say, well,
you had and Zoe, but you took Christin Laytner and
who turned out to be a better player. Well, coach
k was on the committee. Latner only, I mean he
played limited minutes. He played in eight games. He averaged

(19:14):
just under five points a game. Shack said that he
was upset initially and jealous that you know, Latner got
the call, But then he said, I have come to
the realization that I was more explosive, more powerful, but
Christin Latner was a little bit, little bit more fundamentally
sound than I was. Plus he stayed all four years

(19:36):
and graduated. Isaiah Thomas he was the big snub. So
you had Clyde Drexler and Isaiah Thomas. They were supposed
to be the last two, and they wanted everything to
go smoothly. They wanted everybody to get along. It was
it was quickly becoming Michael Jordan's dream team, and he

(19:58):
wanted to have fun, wanted to have friends, Patrick Ewing,
Larry Bird Magic on there, Chris Mullin. He wanted to
have his players. They were going to win. Everybody knew
that he was going to have Barkley there. It was
going to be a lot of fun. But the Olympic team,
you know, they had taken at least one college player

(20:20):
on the roster for quite some time, and they ended
up taking Christian Laytner overshacked, over Zoe, and over Isaiah Thomas.
If anybody has a real beef with that, it was
Isaiah Thomas. And I think that they liked whether I
know they liked Drexler more than they did Isaiah. Drexler

(20:41):
was a great player, but Isaiah was a better player.
They just didn't, you know, Mike was not going to
bring him in, you know, the Pistons and the Bulls.
I don't give a damn. And I don't know if
Mike gave him an ultimatum. I mean, I'm not playing
if he's going to be on the roster. Yes, Mark
I think you have a point with the Kaitlin Clark situation.

(21:02):
Diana Tarassi graduated from yukond of four. She was on
the four Olympic team. Candice Parker Wait college Player of
the Year. She was on the Wait Olympic team too. Yeah,
so you might have a point there for sure. Yeah.

Speaker 19 (21:14):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (21:14):
I wonder how that would go if you were taking
her out of college or she was going to be
still in college. I don't know. All I know is
everybody has an opinion on this, and I and as
I say, make sure you understand the product that you're
talking about that everybody wants to coddle Caitlin Clark. She

(21:34):
can handle this on her own. She's done a wonderful job.
But also, if you're going to have an opinion on it,
give context to this and tell me the player you're
taking off the roster. That's what's going to happen. Somebody
has to come off. You might have. It's not like
you're going to have twenty or fifteen. You got twelve.
That's it, and you're gonna have some injuries, some decisions

(21:57):
that need to be made, and maybe she still makes
the roster. Sean and Indy Hey Sean, what's on your mind?

Speaker 11 (22:05):
Good?

Speaker 4 (22:05):
Good morning.

Speaker 19 (22:07):
Let's make a show out of this entertainment wise and
take off Tarasei and Grinder and punt Angel Reese, hang
Caitlin Clark together and let those two live with each
other for two weeks.

Speaker 1 (22:20):
Well, Griner is injured. She's only played I think one
game was it? Chelsea Gray, I don't even know if
she's played. She has a lower leg injury. I don't
know if she's going to play. So you might need
a couple of players to play. You imagine if you
had Angel Reese and Caitlyn Clark his roommates there. Let

(22:43):
me see Kyle in Annapolis. Hi, Kyle, what's on your
mind today?

Speaker 14 (22:48):
Dan?

Speaker 11 (22:49):
Morning, long long time, five eleven, two thirty five, two
bubble gums. I was you're talking out of the Dream Team.
I was wondering if you saw that documentary with the
with the Dream Team with Carl Malone's wife collecting all
the jerseys and hues, yeah, and getting them signed and

(23:10):
it was worth like mega million dollars.

Speaker 19 (23:12):
Yeah, but that's all.

Speaker 11 (23:15):
I love listening. I'll let you respond and take care.

Speaker 1 (23:18):
Thank you, Kyle. Yeah, I saw some of those items
up for auction. It's like, all right, and people normally
what happens when you play in an All Star game,
you know you'll get things signed, and it's far more
comfortable in doing it in a setting like that as
opposed to, Hey, I'm playing against that team tonight and
I'm going to get something signed by Larry Bird. How

(23:39):
much did Carl Malone make off those items that do you.

Speaker 8 (23:42):
Want to play the How much did Carl Malone make
with his twenty four Dream Team signed atoms game that
we haven't played before? He had twenty four items from
the ninety two Dream Team, many of them autographed by
the players. Some game used some yeah, game used the
man like For example, he had a Larry Bird Jersey
autograph that use in the semifinal versus Lithuania. That's all

(24:02):
for three hundred and sixty grand. That one item. Had
twenty three more items and one.

Speaker 1 (24:06):
Was a Biggie. He had a Jordan.

Speaker 8 (24:09):
He has a Yeah Jordan Jersey signed when they took
down Lithuania. That's all for three million and.

Speaker 9 (24:16):
Three dollars three million three.

Speaker 1 (24:19):
That's weird.

Speaker 4 (24:20):
Wow.

Speaker 9 (24:21):
Total hall was what for the Mailman?

Speaker 1 (24:23):
Five million dollars?

Speaker 9 (24:25):
I'm giving that to you it's five point one million dollars.

Speaker 1 (24:28):
Yeah, Blue Blue, nice, thank you. Let's play the all
new Dan Hurley game. I don't know what the former
former all new Dan Hurley game was, but this is
the all new Dan Hurley game.

Speaker 9 (24:40):
Yes, Paul, we played this game on Friday.

Speaker 8 (24:42):
Three of the five of us predicted that Dan Hurley
would stay with Yukon.

Speaker 9 (24:46):
I think that was me, Marvin.

Speaker 8 (24:48):
And see with what we know or don't know today,
where do you think Dan Hurley is going to do?

Speaker 3 (24:54):
I start with Fritzy.

Speaker 16 (24:57):
I am going to say he is going to become
the new coach of the Los Angeles Lakers.

Speaker 2 (25:02):
Seaton boy, Well, I think he's probably already made his decision, right,
He's not actually making it today, but if he does
anything today, he's announcing it today. The team has practiced
at noon, So is he telling the team just before

(25:22):
practice that he's leaving now?

Speaker 19 (25:25):
He?

Speaker 1 (25:25):
I think owes it to us to break this story
sooner than us Dan Patrick show. Yes, Yes, we're in Connecticut.
He's been on the show.

Speaker 3 (25:37):
We're Connecticutans.

Speaker 9 (25:40):
Is that a word?

Speaker 1 (25:41):
I'm pretty sure that's what you would call someone from Connecticut.
It sounds like you get shocked, you know, in an
outlet what happened? Perfect to describe Connecticut from there. Okay,
I'm going to say that he is leaving and going
to the Lakers. And now either way I've called it
and I'm right tomorrow better Okay.

Speaker 3 (26:01):
Marvin, I think he's going to the Lakers, and no, Paulie.

Speaker 8 (26:07):
I unfortunately think no news is bad news because if
he was staying at Yukon, it would get leaked in
a good way.

Speaker 9 (26:14):
I think he's going to the Lakers.

Speaker 3 (26:16):
See, now you called it too.

Speaker 1 (26:17):
I'm gonna say he's staying. So now you see now
I called it too.

Speaker 9 (26:21):
All right, So we're learning how sports radio shall be done.

Speaker 3 (26:25):
This is gonna work.

Speaker 1 (26:26):
All you need is as Setan said, there's nothing better
than say I told you.

Speaker 2 (26:30):
In our world, Oh, nobody loves anything more than I
told you. I told you. Well, I mean, I told
you that this is going to happen. Yeah, I told you.

Speaker 1 (26:39):
I knew it. That usually happens during March madness. Yeah
I knew it. Yeah, I saw this one coming. Yeah,
I saw Florida Atlantic coming.

Speaker 3 (26:52):
Uh.

Speaker 1 (26:53):
Let's go around the room. Best and worst of the weekend, Marvin,
I'm gonna start with you. What was your best and
your worst of the week? All right, So my best
of the weekend the Chicago White Sox. After losing fourteenth straight,
they won two straight games over the Boston Red Sox
this weekend.

Speaker 7 (27:09):
Oh they're on fire. Let's go and you know what
I'm gonna go. Other best Aaron Judge. He hit a
bomb in there one win over the Dodgers yesterday. It
is his twenty fourth home run of the season.

Speaker 1 (27:22):
So Judge is one of three Yankees to homer and
avoiding the sweep as they beat the Dodgers six to four.
So he's got twenty four homers. The first player to
hit at least twenty four home runs through the first
sixty seven games twice in his career. The other person
who did it Barry Bonds.

Speaker 17 (27:40):
Statu to day statup to day status to day.

Speaker 1 (27:44):
Does that mean that he is the only player to
do it?

Speaker 20 (27:47):
Yeah?

Speaker 9 (27:47):
How does that work with public?

Speaker 8 (27:49):
Do we ignore Barry Bonds records? He's in there, But like,
is it considered foe?

Speaker 1 (27:58):
I guess it's in the eye of the b hole.

Speaker 3 (28:01):
Your eye.

Speaker 1 (28:03):
I would consider that foe. Yeah, what he did with
Pittsburgh that was legit but uh if he stopped then
then he would have been a Hall of Famer. All
of a sudden, he was like, wait a minute, McGuire
and Sosa getting all this credit. What are they taking?
Uh well, they're taking uh the clear in the crank

(28:24):
all right, load me up, load me up, Let me
take a couple of those.

Speaker 7 (28:30):
Yeah, smart, So anything post ninety eight you consider foe.
Regarding Barry Bonds, I don't know.

Speaker 1 (28:38):
I have to look at it. You got to look
at it. Yeah, yeah, but but he was Buns was
a great player, five tool player. When we cared about that,
and then all of a sudden, I think he looked
and said, wait, I'm not considered the best player in
the game. Those guys are winning Sportsmen of the Year,

(28:58):
Sosa maguire, And you know, it was a poorly kept secret,
and people wanted to know, wait, why are they bulking
up and they're hitting home runs and they look like that?
And Bonds, you know, he was a whippet. You know,
he looked like he weighed maybe one hundred and seventy
five pounds, and all of a sudden, it looked like
he weighed two seventy five.

Speaker 7 (29:20):
Uh.

Speaker 1 (29:21):
Todd Best and worst of the weekend.

Speaker 16 (29:23):
Best of the weekend the Panther SURGEI Bobrovsky huge night minding.
The next Saturday night stopped thirty two shots three nothing
went over. The oilers becomes the.

Speaker 1 (29:30):
Oldest going to the really minding the next there's them.
There's some some expressions like he carted us sixty seven,
like there's certain things when he use in sports. He's
a netminder. What are you doing.

Speaker 20 (29:44):
I'm just sorry to get that.

Speaker 1 (29:46):
I'm just finding the net.

Speaker 19 (29:47):
I hope.

Speaker 3 (29:47):
So you're a goalie, someone better do it.

Speaker 16 (29:49):
The oldest going to record a shut out in Game
one of a Stanley Cup Final.

Speaker 3 (29:52):
Worst I'm staying with hockey for worse of the weekend.

Speaker 16 (29:54):
The NHL felt they need to bring the Stanley Cup
out for both teams to look at before the start
of Game one, first time since the sixties that the
Cup was brought onto that before the start of a series,
taking away some of the drama and tradition of Lord
Stanley not making an appearance till one team is close
to actually winning.

Speaker 1 (30:08):
Why did they say why they did that?

Speaker 16 (30:10):
I have not seen why, but they just went back
to some retro time in the sixer, but the cup
was on display.

Speaker 3 (30:16):
Yeah, and that's not cool.

Speaker 16 (30:16):
We're supposed to have the whole the cup is in
the building because one team's one went away.

Speaker 1 (30:20):
Yeah, I didn't like that. I mean, I just maybe
the I team can look into that. Why why the
cup was on the ice because the players don't want
to be around it, they don't want to touch it,
they don't want anything to do with it until they
win it. Seaton Best and Worst of the weekend.

Speaker 2 (30:35):
Worst of the weekend US men's national team getting absolutely
relaxed by Columbia.

Speaker 3 (30:39):
That was unfortunate.

Speaker 2 (30:41):
My even more worst is the fact that the game
was still an away game for the US despite being
in our nation's capital. We might be the only country
in the world who can have an away game whilst
in our own country's capital city.

Speaker 1 (30:56):
Okay, how did that work? That were the away.

Speaker 2 (30:59):
Team because more Colombian fans came to the game than
American fans, so they had it at the Commander's Stadium,
And so despite it being you know, in the DC area, Washington,
d C. That's our capitol, there were more Colombian fans
in the crowd than there were American fans. So when
you looked, all you saw was a sea of yellow jerseys,

(31:21):
which is their color, and then spotted it just in
between their a.

Speaker 3 (31:25):
Few hints of the old red, white, and blue. That
was unfortunate.

Speaker 1 (31:30):
Paulie. Best and worst of the weekend.

Speaker 8 (31:32):
I'm gonna say best of the weekend. I got to him,
Drew Holliday. He was one of those guys that felt
like was going to the Hall of very good in
his career.

Speaker 9 (31:38):
I think he's maybe two time All Star.

Speaker 8 (31:41):
But then he gets a ring with Milwaukee. He can
sneak and finals MVP here. If Brown has a bad
game or Tatum has another off game, he could sneak
a series MVP. That's getting them in the Hall of
Fame someday down the road. That could be kind of
Sneaky's playing great. The other one, the French opens a
really unique experience when you're watching when like Alcarez hits

(32:02):
a ball and he thinks it's in and the other
the umpire thinks it's out. The umpire gets down from
his chair, walks down and walks over and they point
at scrapes in the clay and they have to like
argue over scrapes and other It's very different.

Speaker 1 (32:15):
I'm looking at the MVP odds. According to DraftKings, it's
Jason Tatum and Jalen Brown overwhelming favorites. Then it's Luca
Drew Holliday is fourth on that list. Let's take a break.
More phone calls coming up. We're back after this.

Speaker 17 (32:29):
Be sure to catch the live edition of The Dan
Patrick Show weekdays at nine am Eastern six am Pacific
on Fox Sports Radio and the iHeartRadio WAP.

Speaker 1 (32:39):
Still no word on the Dan Hurley front, but as
Seaton said, he's meeting with his team. He's got practice
coming up at noon Eastern. So I'm guessing somebody's been
told something or somebody has been telling somebody something, and
then it's going to eventually trickle out here. Yes, seton.

Speaker 2 (32:55):
What is it like this morning? If you're Dan Hurley
driving into work. You get there, you do the same
thing that you've been doing every day for however long.
You go through security, you use your car. You people
start seeing you look at coach, Aaron's avoiding eye contact.

Speaker 3 (33:12):
How you doing, coach?

Speaker 2 (33:13):
Hey, how are you all right? You got your coffee? Yeah,
like every other day, except it really weird.

Speaker 1 (33:17):
Oh so your pass card still works all right, Hey coach, Hey, coach,
ma'am are waite? Are you still our coach? Yeah, it's
gonna it's gonna trickle out here at some point because
it feels like and Woade said that he was going
to meet with his team back in Connecticut and then
make the announcement here. And uh, you know there's some
great college basketball reporters who are on this story right now. Hey,

(33:41):
can you tell tell me somebody who knows something, who
told somebody something? Yes, Todd, why would you pull up.

Speaker 16 (33:47):
To camp well, you know, blasting I Love La out
of your car. That's kind of insensitive to the gang.

Speaker 7 (33:52):
What'd you think.

Speaker 2 (33:54):
May if you delivered it without stumbling, that would have helped.
I'm going going back back would be inappropriate.

Speaker 7 (34:03):
Yes, Mark, guys, I'm going to go to the exit
U press conference if he does leave.

Speaker 11 (34:08):
Is that all right?

Speaker 3 (34:10):
You can Marvin Prince dan Patrick show, Yes, I don't.
I'm sorry, I mean congratulations.

Speaker 1 (34:16):
Why are you doing this to us?

Speaker 7 (34:18):
Cry in the car?

Speaker 11 (34:19):
Yeah?

Speaker 1 (34:20):
First question Marvin dan Patrick show.

Speaker 7 (34:23):
Hey, Dan, I love you so much, Please don't leave.
I mean, I mean, congratulations on your new job. What
was your fond memories?

Speaker 1 (34:30):
Hey, coach.

Speaker 2 (34:30):
Look you Seaton Hall okay, Marvin big Fan, Uh just
you know, mom take hey, look okay Lakers.

Speaker 4 (34:40):
Wow.

Speaker 1 (34:41):
Wow, that's a that's a callback from the Super Bowl
Gonna mission.

Speaker 9 (34:45):
You have bad memories, man.

Speaker 1 (34:46):
You know when I gave you the chance to ask
Deebo Samuel a question.

Speaker 7 (34:49):
And I don't know why you did because I had
knocked him. I was like, wait, Deeboter doesn't want to
answer your question. What makes you think he wants to
answer my question? I was literally waiting for the inner
you to be over. Did you like Marv, you have
a question? I was like, I do so.

Speaker 1 (35:04):
And then like you're good and I like you and
the Niners super Bowl.

Speaker 7 (35:13):
He answered questions by drinking water. Marvi, you have a question? No, hell,
no question.

Speaker 1 (35:21):
I was going to try to change it up because
he wasn't going to answer mine. I thought, maybe you know,
bring you in Alan, Atlanta. Good morning Al, what's on
your mind today?

Speaker 20 (35:33):
Good morning van h Just a quick thing, but from
the best and worst. Seaton, Connecticut residents are known as nutmeggers.
Yeah that's right, nutmeggers.

Speaker 2 (35:43):
Okay, Estate, Yeah, I think you'd also you know, sorry, yes, sir.

Speaker 21 (35:51):
No, no best, because the Braves gave up six out
of eight and two series to the Nationals and two
it was horrible and the Celtics are up to nol
and I have to hear it from all the friends
in New England. Worst of the weekend, all of these
chuckleheads so mad at the Olympic team.

Speaker 20 (36:12):
Not taking Caiton Clark. She's barely been in the league
that long, she's not done much. And how many rookies
are on the team. But get your head right, people,
she doesn't deserve it yet. She has to earn her strikes.

Speaker 1 (36:25):
Now. They have taken Kandae Parker and Diana Tarssi when
they were coming out of college. I get all of this,
and you know a lot of this you can throw
out whatever has happened before precedent because this is a
unique situation. If the Olympic committee said we want her
on the roster, she's going to be on the roster,
and it's because of popularity and with you know, her talents,

(36:50):
it's going to happen. Okay. And if they said it
that way, she's great, she's popular, we want her on
and the Olympics we're going to showcase the Women's game,
gonna make it appointment viewing. You're gonna be able to
watch her play. Okay, I get it. I don't think
she deserves to be on it. I don't think she's

(37:10):
one of the twelve best players right now, but that
doesn't mean she's not gonna be on the roster, given
that there are a couple of injuries there. But everybody
is this is like ruining days, ruining weeks, and they
gotta have an opinion on this. You know, she's handled
herself well. She got to this point. She seems to

(37:32):
be doing okay. You know, there's hiccups, highs and lows.
Rookies don't have great seasons normally. Let her learn from it. Yeah,
I got three daughters. It's tough sometimes where you go
all right, you know what, you're gonna get knocked down.
I'll get back up. She's doing okay. And if she
doesn't make the Olympic team in four years, she'll be

(37:55):
twenty six. She can play in Los Angeles. It's okay.
It's like people feel like they're just offended by this, Like,
how dare I get it? What I like to see
her in the Olympics. Yes, I don't know how much
he even plays in the Olympics. If she's on the team,
do I want to see her in warm ups? Here's

(38:15):
another thing. If you're the players on the team, she's
going to be the one that everybody wants to interview.
She's going to be the focal point. When you get
up twelve in the second half, you're going to want
her to be in the game. Like, there's a lot
more to this than just can you play basketball? You
just want to be careful, and I think that's what
they're doing. I think they're being sensitive, maybe overly sensitive

(38:38):
to this, But go back to the bottom line. If
you're going to put her on, tell me who you're
taking off. And if you don't know who they're taking off,
then you really shouldn't be commenting on this. Understand the
players who have earned this and are better than her
right now, be fair to them as well. Everybody wants

(38:59):
Kate and Clark to have. You know, this path towards
stardom glory in the WNBA, you gonna have to work
on it. It's hard. WA's your play it is. It's
difficult for that doesn't mean she's not going to figure
it out. She coming off a game where she had
seven three pointers. Let's see Brad in North Carolina. Good morning, Brad.

(39:23):
What's on your mind?

Speaker 4 (39:25):
What's up? Dp AYM just looking at as Dan Hurley situation.
It reminds me a ton of the first time North
Carolina approach Roy Williams to come back, and they brought
him Chapel Hill agreed to a yeah, contract and principle,
but take the door or athletic director didn't give him
a sign. He went back home Jameson's mind. So I'm

(39:47):
just wondering if something's happening there or like you said,
it could be a leverage play.

Speaker 1 (39:51):
Yeah, I don't know, and I haven't heard anything. The
fact they kept it secret for such a long period
of time, why would it now all of a sudden
not be a secret or kept a good secret before
it's officially announced. When he didn't agree to something in
principle and came back home, that's that's when I thought, Okay,

(40:12):
there seems to be a possibility. You know once you
this happened with Billy Donovan. Remember he was going to
take the Orlando Magic job, and all of a sudden
he backed down at the last second. I don't know
If that's the case, Look that this offer is crazy
great for Dan Hurley to take the Laker job. I

(40:33):
don't know what that navigational poll was going to be of.
You know, you're an East Coast guy, and does that
even matter to him? Larry in Illinois.

Speaker 6 (40:46):
Yeah, you guys can go ahead and get started on
the rumors who's going to be the next Connecticut basketball coach?
And obviously it will be the lot of job out there,
So that'll be the you know, take stab to take
that Lakers jew.

Speaker 1 (41:04):
Yeah, And I don't know if it's Bill Murray's son, Luke,
who's done a wonderful job, does he stay. If I'm
Dan Hurley, I go to the Lakers, I'm bringing Luke
with me. Somebody's going to get a pretty good job there.
But you know, I can't stress this enough. What Dan
Hurley did with his roster is he found players who

(41:25):
worked in his system. A lot of times when you
see now this with the NFL with quarterbacks, it used
to be you took a quarterback and he had to
fit into your system. Now you're taking a quarterback and
you have to adapt to his system. Like Cam Newton
with Carolina. You know, sometimes you have these talents, generational talents,
and then you go, Okay, now we have to, you know,

(41:47):
adapt to those players you come in. Dan Hurley's getting
players who now know how to play, or they learn
how to play in his system, and he turned over
the roster and had a team that was even better
than the one that won the first title. Find an
hour on this Monday.
