Speaker 1 (00:00):
You are listening to the Dan Patrick Show on Fox
Sports Radio. It's the final hour on this Monday. I
hope you had a great weekend. Gang's all here ready
to go. Spend some time talking about the US Open.
More of Bryson de Shambeau winning or Rory McElroy losing it.
It's a combination of both. Reggie Miller will join us
coming up. Game five coming up tonight, and the Mavericks
(00:22):
are getting six and a half in the potential closeout
game with the Boston Celtics.
Speaker 2 (00:27):
Also, we spoke a little.
Speaker 3 (00:29):
Bit about Caitlyn Clark and Angel Reese as they have
another moment there where Caitlin Clark going to the hoop,
got her shot blocked, got knocked down, Angel Reese delivering
the shot to her head. They upgraded that to a
flagrant one. I think it's a hard basketball foul, and
I think you have to factor in not raising it
(00:52):
up to a flagrant one. I think you got a
factor in that Angel Reaes doesn't like Caitlyn Clark, So
was there a little bit more added two that play?
But watch the entire game, not just that moment there,
because that's what's fueling people today. Certainly on social media,
and it's fun. It's fun to have a rivalry there.
It's tough. It's tough basketball. I just want to make
(01:13):
sure the WNBA doesn't allow it to go to the
point where somebody on Caitlin Clark's team stands up to
Angel Reese and then you have something that's not pretty.
But it is hard basketball. They play physical basketball. This
is why you have people who seem to have an
opinion and outrage. They haven't watched the WNBA. They can't
(01:37):
believe that there would be this kind of physicality. They
have been playing this way for a long time. But
Angel Reese doesn't like Caitlin Clark and she's not trying
to hide that. And you know, the reference point I
had last hour was she's Dylan Brooks. She wants to
be Draymond Green because people only know her now because
(01:58):
of Caitlin Clark. But if I'm the WNBA, is it
good for business? It is until it's not. And that's
what you got to be careful about. But people have
an opinion on it, whether they watch the game or not.
The best American athletes look to punch their tickets to
the Paris Olympics the US Olympic Team Triers trials trying
(02:20):
to make Team USA Sunday at eight Eastern on NBC
and Peacock SA.
Speaker 2 (02:25):
Good morning.
Speaker 3 (02:25):
If you're watching on Peacock, thank you for downloading the app.
We'll get to more phone calls here. Best and worst
of the weekend. I'm looking at Rory McElroy. He's aged
thirty five now, hasn't won a major in a decade.
He has a runner up finish at a major in
each of the last three years. He keeps putting himself
(02:47):
in the position, which is what you want. He's not
no longer relevant. He is, but he's relevant maybe for
what you don't want to be relevant for. You can't
close out, and you have a two stroke lead, you
all you have to do is paw out and you're
gonna win the US Open.
Speaker 2 (03:06):
That's it.
Speaker 3 (03:06):
He'd win by two shots, and then all of a sudden,
you bogie three of the last five holes, three of
the last four holes, and Bryson to Shambo with this
putt wins the US Open to Champo.
Speaker 4 (03:22):
He slides the putter behind the ball, takes one last
look at the.
Speaker 2 (03:26):
Whole man, strokes the putt up the hill and the meadow.
Speaker 5 (03:31):
He takes his head off, streams up the gallery, jumping
around the green. A celebration.
Speaker 1 (03:36):
Now they hunts and drug bun line two times.
Speaker 2 (03:40):
A US Open champion.
Speaker 5 (03:41):
Bryson to Shambo.
Speaker 3 (03:43):
Courtesy a serious XMPGA tour radio. Bryson talked to everybody
he was engaging throughout the four rounds and Pinehurst Rory
had to watch from the scorer's tent. Bryson makes the putt.
Rory gets in his car, drives himself to an airport,
jumps in his private plane and heads home. Should have stayed,
(04:05):
should have met with the media, even if you do
just a one off interview with NBC, take care of
your broadcast partners. You got paid over two million dollars
for that runner up. Finish at you know, answer a
question or two. People felt bad for him, but he
should stay there and answer a couple of questions. Bryson
(04:26):
to Shamba. It's like a coming out party. You're like,
who is this guy and where's he been? But give
him credit because not as bulky as he used to be,
looks normal now and still hits it a long way.
So we always talk about how far somebody hits it,
And what did it come down to? Three and a
half foot put.
Speaker 2 (04:49):
That's it. You can hit three p fifty, but can
you do something from three and a half feet?
Speaker 5 (04:55):
That's it.
Speaker 3 (04:59):
We can't hit it three, we can make three and
a half foot putts. Drive for show, putt for doe.
Never been more evident than what it was on Sunday
that Bryson de Shambeau winning his second US Open. All right,
let's see, we'll talk to Reggie. If Dallas wins tonight,
(05:19):
now all of a sudden, we have something here after
being up by as many as forty eight in the
previous game. If Dallas is able to come out now,
they're not going to play the way they did in
the last game. But if Boston's not hitting their shots,
because that factored into this big lead. Boston just didn't
make their shots. They've been making their shots. But we'll
(05:40):
talk to Regg about that. That it's Dallas getting six
and a half. Barry and Santa fe Hi Barry, what's
on your mind?
Speaker 6 (05:49):
Good morning, Scholas, Good morning, chat Row, great weekend, No worst,
The best is Hail the Grimace, Nick Ribs for everybody.
Still stinky New York Mets are five and zero since
the big purple blob throughout the first pitch at the
(06:10):
city field last week, and they sweep the Padres.
Speaker 2 (06:15):
Let's go Mets, all right?
Speaker 3 (06:17):
Thank you Barry, Barry holding holding out hope for his Mets.
Tom and Charlotte. I Tom, what's on your mind today?
Speaker 6 (06:27):
Hey?
Speaker 1 (06:28):
Dan?
Speaker 7 (06:29):
First of all, great job last week covering Jerry West
hath In't that show alone? Should have won the should
have won the Sports em before you. You all did great,
especially Paulie. That's to the weekend. Great Father's Day, hopeful
of you had a great one as well. Worst of
the weekend. I like to just kind of hang around,
spend time with the family, play some your games, and
I'm like, oh, what's on? Oh, well college and Cobs.
(06:51):
This could be great. Let's throw that on the TV.
There are no baseball games on TV until seven at
night that I could find, and they get Yankees game
is on set it at nights. All this day's done
by then. And it was pretty sad. I really think
baseball could capitalize on a Yankee game at one a
four o'clock Cards coach something for La and the Athenon.
(07:14):
It just really sad to not see any games on.
Speaker 3 (07:17):
Yeah, And I don't understand the scheduling with Major League
Baseball where you think you can take advantage of there's
a window here, window of opportunity.
Speaker 2 (07:26):
I mean I see this with a WNBA.
Speaker 3 (07:28):
They got standalone games with Caitlin Clark on ABC or CBS,
CBS yesterday.
Speaker 2 (07:34):
You have that moment. Can you take advantage of that moment?
Make it so it's easy for the audience to find it,
you know, some of the streaming services and trying to
find the games and who's on and when they're on
and how do I find them? It just makes it tough,
makes it frustrating. Jason and Fresno. Hey Jason, what's on
your mind?
Speaker 7 (07:55):
Hey Dan?
Speaker 5 (07:55):
How you going?
Speaker 8 (07:56):
Mister Pottky apologize.
Speaker 6 (07:57):
I want to be more.
Speaker 8 (07:58):
Respectful than stay in Irving.
Speaker 5 (08:00):
Sorry.
Speaker 8 (08:00):
I appreciate you a couple of things.
Speaker 6 (08:02):
The first thing is Marvin shout out.
Speaker 8 (08:04):
I was the first person to have smaller hands and.
Speaker 1 (08:06):
You at the Super Bowl.
Speaker 8 (08:07):
Walk it out, bro. I've also like to announced my
retirement ten years, thirteen days.
Speaker 6 (08:12):
I am done and.
Speaker 5 (08:12):
Out of there.
Speaker 8 (08:16):
I love it, Okay, Right, So I'm an administrator here
in Fresno. I was an administrator for the high school
that Brison went to. He made me honestly cry yesterday.
He lost his dad a couple of years ago. It's
got to have a special meeting to him to win it. Yesterday,
and then we're talking about graduations. I would like to
(08:37):
also sell about my kids graduation, but obviously graduated because
it ends child support for me.
Speaker 7 (08:43):
I'm out.
Speaker 6 (08:43):
I love you guys.
Speaker 2 (08:44):
You guys wererock all right, Thank you Jason.
Speaker 5 (08:46):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (08:47):
They embraced and Bryson de Shambo embraced Payne Stewart because
he went to SMU. Payne Stewart went there and he
really looked up to Payne Stewart. And I was there
at that Sopen when when Payne won at Pinehurst against
Phil Micholson and you know, Father's Day weekend and Phil
was waiting for the arrival of his first child in pain,
(09:10):
talking about that that Phil was going to leave if
Amy his wife went into labor.
Speaker 2 (09:17):
Yeah, that that was That was good.
Speaker 3 (09:19):
They took advantage of every everything you could with the
US Open and Pinehurst, I think, and you had an
unbelievable finish. The only thing it would have been better
is if Rory and Bryson would have been paired together
Jacob and la Hey, Jake, what's on your mind?
Speaker 6 (09:33):
Thanks?
Speaker 9 (09:34):
Dp uh five to eleven, A stop to fifty the
rest of the weekend Saturday Night Edmonton Oilers avoiding elimination.
And you're right about those home colors for Edmonton. They
just they're just they just popped from the TV. Those
are pretty awesome. Worst, obviously being from La is the
(09:56):
Mookie Betts injury. I just want to get your thoughts
real quick. I know it's probably a comfort issue, but
can the owners of a superstar on their team, can
they require them to wear a padded glove? I mean,
when you see a tiny up at the plate, it
really looks like he's wearing a UFC glove while he's
(10:19):
at bat. Because every year it just seems like a
superstar gets a hand injury. That that's just devastation. When
you're missing six.
Speaker 3 (10:27):
To eight weeks, well, you know, and just the bones
in your hands, the number of bones you can break,
and those pitches are not meant to go at you,
but they're meant to go into you, and you know
that ball rides up in you and Muki couldn't get
out of the way. But I have no problem if
you're going to wear a glove up there, if they
let you wear a padded glove up there, because if
(10:49):
you get hit in the hand, something's gonna break. Just
is just the exposure and those pitches are traveling, you know,
upwards one hundred miles an hour.
Speaker 10 (10:58):
Something's going to happen and it's not gonna be good. Yeah, Paul,
I've never really noticed it before. With Otani, he has
a glove that has a total shield over the top.
It's like a leathery material that's very hard and it
covers the top of his hand and a lot of
the wrist area. A lot of the other most baseball
players wear the traditional glove with the belcroz strap.
Speaker 2 (11:18):
Phil and Iowa, I Phil, what's on your mind?
Speaker 6 (11:21):
Hey man?
Speaker 9 (11:22):
That's the worst of the weekend.
Speaker 6 (11:24):
Best.
Speaker 11 (11:25):
Got to take my daughter to the College World Series
and talk her into thing for the ten A game.
Speaker 6 (11:30):
She wanted to leave and as we're walking up the steps,
hurt up.
Speaker 9 (11:34):
Turn around, get to see the lockoff.
Speaker 2 (11:36):
Amazing.
Speaker 11 (11:38):
Worst of the weekend. H I'm gonna go back to
the Angel Reas thing. I know she says it's a
basketball player, but dude, he missed the ball by like
two feet.
Speaker 2 (11:48):
You guys have a good one, all right, Yeah, this
the shot gets blocked. Angel.
Speaker 3 (11:56):
I mean, I don't know why she's even trying to
get blocked, because you know, Caitlyn was past her. But
you know, she said it was a basketball play. Caitlyn said,
it's a basketball play. I don't know if Caitlyn truly
believes that She's had a couple of hard fouls going
to the hoop where she's been hitting the head this year.
But then, once again, you kind of have to take
(12:17):
the totality of the league and how often do these
things happen, not just to Caitlyn Clark. We take it,
we extract it, and then all of a sudden that
becomes social media. Caitlyn Clark is trying to take the
high road. Angel Reese wants to bring her down to
her level because then she's relevant. How many other games
(12:41):
have you watched with Angel reach this year? And the
answer is probably zero. If she plays against Kaitlyn Clark,
you've watched. Otherwise you don't. But I and I want
to stress this again, she's a really good player. She's
a double double. But there's nothing about her game that
you go, that's must see TV. Asia Wilson, watch her.
(13:03):
That's the best player in the game. Like, there's players
who are really good, talented, skilled, and you know, we
tend to focus sometimes on the lowest common denominator here
of you know, it's black versus white. They don't like
her because they're jealous. I don't know that, but I
do have to watch the actual game, not just to play,
(13:23):
to be fair to it. Let me take a break,
we'll talk some basketball. We'll get to Reggie Millner. Does
he believe Charles Barkley is going to retire after next season?
And also one of the Lakers getting their head coach
back after this.

Speaker 3 (14:19):
Todd has a numerology here, or at least somebody is
feeding Todd's some numerology. Then we'll get to Reggie Miller.
What's your numerology?
Speaker 4 (14:27):
So six seventeen eight was the last time the Celtics
won their championship. Tonight is six seventeen twenty four. The
Boston Celtics Boston area code is six one seven. Something
special about June seventeenth in the air. Looks like the
Celtics will wrap things up tonight.
Speaker 2 (14:41):
Okay, you're guaranteeing it.
Speaker 4 (14:44):
I'm gonna do the Charles Brocker I got wrong to you.
Speaker 5 (14:46):
The Celtics are gonna wrap it.
Speaker 3 (14:47):
Up today, bringing Reggie Alowishes Miller Junior, the third Turner
Sports Hall of Famer.
Speaker 2 (14:54):
Celtics wrap it up tonight.
Speaker 5 (14:56):
First of all, please tell Todd don't do that again. Please, No,
that was so bad. Hey, look, I know everyone's been
killing the Celtics over the last two three days because
of their Game four performance, But Theodore, You've been around
this business a long time, and you you understand this. Look, well,
(15:19):
anyone care if the Celtics wrap it up tonight and
win in this gentleman's suite in the history when they
go back and look at this for one series, if
it is for one If they do wrap up tonight,
are they gonna talk about the shellacking they took in
Game four? No, all they'll talk about is their eighteenth
NBA championship. So I understand everyone on you know, the networks,
(15:44):
Oh my god, what's wrong with the Celtics. Bad game,
marble game. Yes, they thought that the Metavericks were going
to cave in and it was gonna be a cake walk.
They took them for granted, and the basketball guard basketball
guards showed that right. That's what the thirty eight points
shlacking was. The question tonight will be can Dallas make
(16:07):
shots and play with that same type of intensity defensively
on the road in another close out situation. That's what
it comes down to. But who cares. It's one game,
And if these playoffs are any indication of what's going
on when a team gets beat by this many points
in this bed the next night, the team that suffered
(16:29):
the next game, the team that suffered that loss usually
comes back and hands out of slacking themselves. So to
answer your question, yeah, I do think it's over tonight
because I just don't think Dallas can sustain that shot making,
and more importantly defensively because they're targeting Luca, and Luca
(16:51):
was better. He was better defensively in game four. Can
he do it again here in game five? I don't know.
Speaker 3 (16:59):
I don't know, but I did they figure something out though,
reg that you can take from that game to use tonight.
That's the only thing that Yes, they'd looked really impressive.
They blew them out. Boston gave up probably at halftime.
But is there something there that you think if Dallas
figured something out that that can help them win tonight.
Speaker 5 (17:19):
Well, a couple of things. Their pace was better, they
played faster, which you and I talked about last week,
and again guys and made shots. Dante Jaxon was good
off the bench, Tim Hardaway Junior, there was a sighting
finally he started to make shots that could help the
thing that the wind did for Dallas it gave them
(17:39):
a sense of hope, a little bit of life. Now
the heartbeat is beating a little bit. Now. I will
say this, if they can find a way and win
tonight on the road in Boston, this series completely changes
because now you go back to Dallas and you would
assume they would win that and that sets up a
huge game and we know how Dallas they are on
(18:03):
the road in game sevens. But again that's that's a
lot of ifs. But that makes tonight's game so interesting.
If if Dallas can find a way and they have
been good on the road in these playoffs, but they've
got to be able to sustain their shot making, which
they've only done in Game four, and defensively, can they
(18:26):
play that way?
Speaker 3 (18:27):
When you see players like Luca complaining all the time
to the officials, I mean, if I am an official,
I'm not going to give you something, and I'm less
likely because I'm human. I'm not like, here you go again, complaining, whining,
and you played with guys, you probably had your moments
(18:47):
where you were always looking for this, but after a
while it just kind of turns people off. And if
I'm an official, why am I going to give Luca
something when all you do is complain about everything up
and down the floor.
Speaker 5 (19:04):
There's only so many times that you can cry a
wolf in the game of basketball. And I've said this
all along, Luca has not built up any goodwill towards
the official, all of them. I don't even think he
has a favorite official. Normally guys have certain officials that
(19:24):
they can kind of lean on a little bit, talk
to certain kind of ways. I don't think he's built
up any goodwill for any of the officials, and it
will always come back to hunt, not only him but
his team because you're not getting into the bonus early.
You're not getting those fifty to fifty calls, and that's
(19:45):
what you want at this point of the season. When
you get to the conference finals, in the NBA Finals,
there is always going to be fifty to fifty calls
where the official, if they kind of like you or favorable,
you might get it. I don't think lucas ever getting
those calls because it's constant, and it not only hurts
(20:07):
him because he is such a great player, but it
hurts the team because you're not getting the team and
some bonus in those fifty to fifty calls.
Speaker 3 (20:14):
Theodore and everybody wanted to annoint if Luca and the
MAVs won that now he would be the best player
in the game, which isn't true. Joker is still the
best player in the game. But hey, you win your title,
now there's validity in saying you're the best player in
the game. I don't know if Lucas really showcased his
talents where you look at him and you go, oh wow,
(20:38):
there's something special here. I don't think he's played well.
I think he's complained a lot. They're lucky to have
one win here, But I would say Jokers still should
be recognized as the best player in the game.
Speaker 2 (20:49):
Your thoughts, I agree with.
Speaker 5 (20:51):
You, and also too, we'll go back to this conversation too.
This point in the season, it's all about a trisan.
Can you get to the finish line being somewhat healthy,
because at this point everyone has bumps and bruises. We
understand that, But the way he's laboring up and down
the court, and we all know that he's really healthy
(21:13):
on the offensive end, and he looks like he only
has one leg on the defensive end. So he's going
to have to again and I hate saying this, get
him better shape so he can withstand in eighty two
game schedule. Not that he has to play eighty two,
but the healthy and whole going into the playoffs, where
(21:35):
the little bumps and bruises that come along from the
series to series they don't affect you. If you're fortunate
enough to make it to the NBA Finals. You got
to get him better shape. And you look at across
the aisle, you look at Tatum Brown, Holiday White. You
know those guys are always healthy and playing. I think
(21:57):
the only question mark for Boston is for Zi. Yeah,
like he'll never be able to me play sixty to
sixty five games again. He just gets hurts too. It's
too long of a season for him. So I think
they'll be load management for for Zingis going forward always
for the Celtics because they want him healthy and hold
going into the playoffs.
Speaker 3 (22:17):
Talking to Reggie Miller, the Hall of Famer Turner's Sports
NBA analysts, speaking of which Charles Barkley announcing his retirement
after next season, do you believe it?
Speaker 5 (22:30):
I don't want to believe it. Well, first of all,
let me say this, this could be retirement for all
of us at Turner Network next year.
Speaker 3 (22:38):
If well, what are you going to do now? Like,
have you been told anything? I know Charles in the
studio show, but you know you're their lead analyst.
Speaker 5 (22:46):
Here we are in the dark. We have no idea.
This is way above my pay grade. I'm hoping. I
think our leadership is at the table from everything I'm
hearing again, which.
Speaker 6 (22:59):
Is a lot.
Speaker 5 (23:01):
And I hope they're, you know, having a fourth a
two minute it's left on in the fourth, and they're,
you know, trying to pull out a win here. It
would be nice. I think Charles is getting ahead of
the story because his name is being thrown out there
with NBC at Amazon and the possibilities, and I think
(23:22):
he just wanted to set the record straight. And good
for him. He's always done things on his own terms.
You and I know Charles very well, and he's not
going to let other people dictate what he wants to do.
And I think he wanted to get ahead of the
story and announce this. So if this is his last year,
We've had conversations. I'm like, look, dude, we're going to
(23:44):
go out with a bang. So whatever happens at our network,
if we do get a piece of the pie and
we're one of the the four horsemen or not. If
this is our Lady Duck year and this is my
last year at Turner as well, We're gonna have fun
and go out with a bear.
Speaker 3 (24:03):
If you were on the Lakers and they thought about
bringing in JJ Reddi whould never coach before?
Speaker 2 (24:10):
What would your would you have concerned?
Speaker 1 (24:13):
Well?
Speaker 5 (24:15):
Who am I on the Lakers? Am I Lebron?
Speaker 6 (24:17):
Am I?
Speaker 2 (24:18):
How about? I?
Speaker 3 (24:19):
Am? I?
Speaker 2 (24:20):
Am I?
Speaker 5 (24:21):
Often?
Speaker 2 (24:22):
You know I'm going to make you Lebron?
Speaker 5 (24:26):
Well we do a podcast together. I know his basketball IQ,
so I think if I'm Lebron, I'm cool with it
because I have a working relationship with JJ. Here's the thing.
I don't want any person out there trying to get
an NBIA job. We know how hard it is, especially
as a coach. As a player, it's extremely hard, but
(24:47):
as a coach even harder at times. So if this
is what JJ wants, and I haven't really heard a
lot of comments coming out of his camp that he
wants the Laker job, I know his name is being
thrown out there, but I have not heard. And he's
had an opportunity to address these, and I know he's
in the NBA Finals, but he hasn't addressed this. But
if he does want this, kudos and good luck to you.
(25:11):
I just know if you look at the history of
the Lakers since Phil Jackson has left right, the turnover
has been what two to three years? Vogel, Darvin Ham,
Mike Brown, you name it. A lot of people have
not survived. And now you're gonna ask a guy who's
never never coached in this league to lead one of
(25:34):
two franchises that has seventeen at the time as we're
speaking now NBA Championships. That's a lot to ask for
JJ Reddick. If that's what he wants, great, But I'm
not quite sure your first time out the gate, this
is what you want.
Speaker 3 (25:52):
I could be wrong with Theodora, Yeah, but I would
worry if I'm JJ Reddick about how the other players
are persuing the relationship I have with Lebron and is
it preferential treatment? I don't, and you're not treating everybody
the same. I realized that that if you're a star,
(26:14):
you'll be treated differently. But I guess that's what I
would be concerned about if I'm JJ. How did the
other players feel about this?
Speaker 5 (26:20):
But Theodore too. Also, if coach Brego came in here too,
he's going to treat Lebron different than E t treats
everyone else in all.
Speaker 3 (26:30):
Yeah, but he's got a podcast with JJ Reddick if
somebody else comes in.
Speaker 5 (26:34):
But no matter who's coaching the Lakers, Lebron will be
looked upon differently just because of his body of work
and who he is.
Speaker 3 (26:43):
How awkward is that podcast going to be? If JJ
doesn't this job. I'm going to start listening to it
after that.
Speaker 5 (26:50):
Well, okay, and I want to be honest right now
between you and I? Do we think Lebron is in
on the on the coaching search?
Speaker 2 (27:01):
Let's put it this way. I can't believe that he's not.
Speaker 5 (27:07):
So then if that is the case, don't you think
it would be almost a no brainer that JJ would
get it?
Speaker 6 (27:12):
Then?
Speaker 2 (27:12):
Well, no, I think he's fascinated.
Speaker 5 (27:14):
If JJ doesn't get it, are we looking at Lebron like, dude,
why didn't you get your guy the gig? If he's
in on these talks, which personally I'm gonna say he
is not, has he been asked? Maybe? But I don't
think he's calling Jeanie or Rob polink it up and
saying and lobbying for JJ Reddick.
Speaker 3 (27:35):
Okay, but I think he control control and inclusion are
two different things. Does he have control of the situation. No, No,
is he included. I believe that he has to be.
He was fascinated with Dan Hurley. He was fascinated with
Dan Hurley and heard him on JJ's podcast.
Speaker 5 (27:56):
Okay, but in inclusion can mean a lot of things.
Inclusion can mean a simple phone call, hey, this is
what we're thinking, or day to day operations of being included.
There's lots of levels here.
Speaker 2 (28:10):
Do you think Lebron's involved in this?
Speaker 5 (28:14):
I think he's been asked, but I think not to
the point where he will have that say, the final say.
I think they they brought him to Barregos, the Hurleys
and JJ, Reddicks and whomever. This is our pot, this
is what we're thinking of, is come across his desk.
There's been multiple conversations, but I don't think he's calling
(28:36):
now that it's down, Now that Hurley's out and it's
between JJ and maybe Brego, he's saying go with JJ.
Speaker 3 (28:45):
I don't think he said Lebron more involved in the
coaching surge or Bronni being drafted by the Lakers.
Speaker 5 (28:51):
Wow, that's I would certainly say he's definitely more involved
with Broun and that fifty five pick right, isn't that?
Don't the Lakers have their fifty fifth pick in this draft,
and that's what everyone is kind of like looking at
where Lebron could fall. I think between him and Rich Paul,
(29:15):
Ronnie he's more involved with that than he is the
head coaching.
Speaker 2 (29:22):
Yeah.
Speaker 5 (29:23):
Yeah, that's his blood. That's his blood, and he's made
no secret that he wants to play with him.
Speaker 3 (29:30):
Well is he going to hurt him more that if
they don't draft Bronnie or if they don't take JJ Reddick?
Speaker 5 (29:36):
Okay, I know that the draft is when and when
does free agency start? Because he's going to opt out.
We assume correct which one comes first, because if they
don't draft that, and depending on who drafts Bronnie, I
mean a lot of things are in play here. They
(29:58):
really are, because if they don't, I mean, they had
an opportunity to and say, for instance, Dallas who said
they're looking at him hard at fifty eight, what a
could you see Lebron Mark Cuban re you.
Speaker 2 (30:12):
Hey, yeah, that's a long time ago.
Speaker 3 (30:15):
Yeah, but I think so June thirtieth is free agency,
and then the week prior you have the draft, like
twenty fourth, twenty fifth or twenty fifth, twenty six, something
like that.
Speaker 5 (30:29):
So I guess a lot of that will depend on
where Bronny goes and then free agency.
Speaker 3 (30:35):
I still think san Antonio would be the best place
for him. That you're out of the spotlight, You're on
a team that doesn't have great expectations. You have Wemba Nyama,
and you have Popovich, and maybe there's.
Speaker 5 (30:48):
A are you talking about senior or junior?
Speaker 3 (30:50):
I'm talking about Bronni, But I think that your learning
curve would not be at as sharp of an angle,
that it would be a slower. Hey, nobody's watching the Spurs.
Now you get some spotlight on the Spurs. He gets
an opportunity to play maybe younger team, vibe with you know,
(31:12):
lim Ben Yama. You got Papovich there to help him.
Speaker 5 (31:16):
Agreed.
Speaker 3 (31:17):
I just think you go to the Lakers, it feels
like he's going to be a G League Yo yo.
He'll be like, go down there and play. Hey, we
have a nationally televised game. Let's bring bring Ronnie up.
Speaker 5 (31:28):
I agree. I think the expectations will be much higher
with the Lakers. I think he could grow more with
san Antonio. All the things you eluded and let's not
forget Papavich and lebron have that relationship of winning that
gold medal together. I think the Spurs would be a
(31:49):
great place because it's a young team. I will disagree
with you a little bit because because of Victor and
the Spurs, they will they will be under the spotlight.
They will be on national television a lot because of
the success of Victor, so you will see him quite
a bit, but there won't be any expectations of winning.
He goes to the Lakers, we know all the Lakers
(32:10):
roll right, it's championship or bust. And you've got your
father who is I'm out Rushmore type player.
Speaker 3 (32:19):
I said that Bronnie would be taken in the first round,
and I risk pie to the face.
Speaker 5 (32:24):
So that is that an actual bet with Dan?
Speaker 6 (32:29):
Yeah?
Speaker 3 (32:29):
Yeah, all four Dan Etsy. They said that Brony that
Bronnie wouldn't be taken in the first round, and I
said that somebody might No, Nope, not gonna happen.
Speaker 2 (32:40):
Okay, make that five minutes.
Speaker 6 (32:46):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (32:46):
I don't know why. I just thought maybe somebody gets
squirrely here, and I don't know.
Speaker 5 (32:52):
I've heard his workouts have been fairly good.
Speaker 6 (32:56):
The thing that. Yeah, but.
Speaker 3 (32:59):
Is quarterback read No, But they're different. Wilson look good
on his pro day.
Speaker 5 (33:08):
When you go to an organization, you have to work out,
you are not scripting. There your your work. Now, when
he was working out for teams to see him at
the Lakers, I think he was at the Lakers facility,
that's scripted. But when you have to go to a
Dallas so you have to go to a Phoenix and
work out for the organization, you're on their turns and
(33:30):
you're on their workout, So that's not scripted.
Speaker 2 (33:34):
Okay, Well, I guess I'm alone on the brownie.
Speaker 5 (33:38):
I like Boston cream pie for me a little. What
what are you?
Speaker 2 (33:43):
Just a good matter?
Speaker 3 (33:45):
Doesn't matter, doesn't matter Boston cream pie. If you want
to do that based off of you know, Celtics winning
the title, that's one.
Speaker 2 (33:52):
It's okay. What what pie would you want me to
smash you with?
Speaker 5 (33:57):
I would probably just go with the old fashioned whipped cream.
Speaker 2 (34:00):
Okay, I got to throw some blueberries in there. And
you're a health guy.
Speaker 5 (34:05):
Yes, I am nice. Nice, Thank you for thinking of me,
my help.
Speaker 2 (34:10):
That's what I do.
Speaker 3 (34:11):
He is the Hall of Famer Reggie Miller Turner Sports.
Great to talk to you, reg Thanks for joining us
as always, appreciate your Theodore love my There you go.
That is that's Marvin, Marvin bringing the noise. There ye man,
Let's take a break. Last call for phone calls? What
(34:31):
we learn?
Speaker 2 (34:32):
What's in store tomorrow?
Speaker 1 (34:33):
Right after this, be sure to catch the live edition
of The Dan Patrick Show weekdays at nine am Eastern
six am Pacific on Fox Sports Radio and the iHeartRadio WAPP.
Speaker 2 (34:44):
Last call for phone calls? What we learn?
Speaker 3 (34:46):
What's in store tomorrow? I saw where Klay Thompson has
unfollowed the Golden State Warriors. Scrubbed, scrubbed my social I
don't know he's unfollowed, though, this.
Speaker 2 (35:02):
Is getting ugly.
Speaker 3 (35:03):
Yes, I don't think he's with Golden State. I think
I've said all along. I think Orlando is the right
fit for Orlando. I don't know if it is for
Clay Thompson, but I do know that they could They
desperately need outside shooting. He'd get a lot of shots,
(35:23):
you know, he could take as many shots as he
wanted to on that team, and they have money as well.
Speaker 2 (35:28):
That's where I think he's going to go.
Speaker 3 (35:30):
Now, you're going to try to have people are going
to say the following, well, what about the Knicks? Okay,
steven A, I'm sure is saying what about the Knicks.
It's always what about the Knicks. The Knicks have had
sixty guys who were going to join the Knicks. Every
big name was what about the Knicks. I don't see
(35:51):
that happening, But you know, Philadelphia, what about that? I go,
Paul George makes more sense than Clay does.
Speaker 9 (35:59):
Yeah.
Speaker 6 (36:00):
I saw some.
Speaker 13 (36:01):
Reaction to this on social media over the weekend. But
why does steven A walking into the tunnel before the
game get the same coverage as players walking in before
the game. Have you noticed that he does the long walk,
sunglasses on, saying hello to people, do whatever. That that
gets the same coverage as like Lebron James is in
(36:22):
the building showing up. Like if Jason Tatum walked in
in his suit and tie, it's covered the exact same way.
Speaker 11 (36:29):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (36:29):
I called him out that that was embarrassing. During the
Knicks series that you know he was, he was a
hype man for the Knicks. I mean, that's not what
you do at ESPN, well, at least that's not what
we used to do. And stephen A walking into the
building should not get coverage. You're there, you're paid to
be there, and it shouldn't be an event when you
(36:50):
walk in. Yeah, smart is is.
Speaker 5 (36:53):
He second behind Barkley as far as like we talked
about like sports MVP, sports TV MVP.
Speaker 3 (36:59):
Is he right behind Barkley? Well, you could say McAfee,
I guess. I mean steven A has a larger sample
size there of what he's been doing, and you know,
it sounds like he wants to graduate to something more
than just sports, or maybe there's a hybrid there. But yeah,
(37:20):
steven A is probably right there with Charles, not not
the entertainment part of it, but certainly being able to
grab headlines, get clicks. You know, Charles says things. Steven
A I think is more calculated with what he's saying,
how we're saying it. And McAfee as well, what they say,
what they are allowed to say. And you know, so
(37:41):
those are probably the three people. I don't know if
there's a fourth, you know, with a mount rushmore of
current people on TV or radio and or radio.
Speaker 2 (37:51):
Yeah, poem, we.
Speaker 10 (37:52):
Almost missed it. Tom Brady made his debut in the
booth for Fox that the UFL Championship game. Did Yeah,
if you taped it, so I'm.
Speaker 2 (37:59):
Not gonna spoil it, spoil with us. Yeah, so's he's
getting his reps there. Yeah, UFL debut.
Speaker 13 (38:06):
How do you feel that the Tom Brady in the
Booth experiment's going to go?
Speaker 3 (38:10):
I think sometimes you over prepare for these things. He
knows so much football, but you can't. You don't want
to be clumsy, you don't want to get in your way.
It's just it's more reactionary than anything else. If he
was a studio analyst, it's different when you're there in
a game. It's in the moment. Now, what do you
(38:31):
do with that moment? Third and eighth, Hey, I look
for that left corner coming in here and the opens.
You know, if the middle of the field's going to
be open, like, that's what you're gonna want out of Brady.
Tell me what you're seeing. And he should be able
to do that better than Tony Romo because he was
a better quarterback. Tell me what you're going to see,
tell me what we saw, Explain it, but also give
(38:54):
us a heads up of Hey, that safety's out there,
backup safeties in I'm going right at him first play, like,
you know what, that news tackle always bothered me. And
you know what I would do? You know, we would
run this kind of play. Those are the things that
I'm gonna want. I don't be perfect, and that's that's
(39:15):
probably you know, a danger that you have. It's like, oh,
I made a mistake. I mean Tony got to the
point where he was just saying numbers. He didn't even
say the guy's name. Do your homework. Continue to do
your homework, and also be able to talk to people
in the league. Don't be because you're like a hot
air balloon. Once you get further and further away, you're
(39:36):
further and further away from the game. You need to
have your ear to the ground so you're finding out things.
And that's that'll be really important for Brady this day
in sports history, Paul.
Speaker 10 (39:46):
Just a couple nineteen sixty, Ted Williams hit home run
number five hundred. He might be underrated. He led the
league in batting average seven times, he led the league
in home runs four times. That's never gonna happen again.
Speaker 2 (39:58):
Well, not many guys who are taking time now to
serve in the war.
Speaker 10 (40:02):
He then come back, he missed his prime age twenty four,
twenty five and twenty six for military service nineteen seventy six,
the NBA and ABA. Now it's to merge and then
oh nineteen ninety four. O. J. Simpson es Bronco took
a little trip around La Route five. Oh dear five Express?
Speaker 2 (40:18):
Yeah the five, Yeah the five during the NBA final. Uh, Todd,
what did you learn today?
Speaker 4 (40:25):
It's a bit easier when you've just won a major
golf event. But Bryson de Shamba has become playful and likable.
Speaker 1 (40:30):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (40:30):
Uh Seed, No, counner Heinehurst, is it tough? It's a bear.
It's a bear. It is rough.
Speaker 5 (40:37):
Uh.
Speaker 2 (40:38):
Marvin Reggie said, Luca has no goodwill with the rest.
Speaker 3 (40:42):
No, and he shouldn't considering the way he's treated them. Paullie,
what did you learn? Great week for Bryson Todd?
Speaker 2 (40:48):
What did I learn?
Speaker 4 (40:49):
Reginald Fields? This is completely changes if the MAVs can
take Game five and get it back.
Speaker 3 (40:53):
