Speaker 1 (00:00):
You are listening to the Dan Patrick Show on Fox
Sports Radio.
Speaker 2 (00:04):
Mentioned the odds after the scared with Team USA versus
South Sudan. So Team USA is still the overwhelming favor
to win the gold. Then it's Canada, followed by France,
Serbia and Greece. Joe Varden was there covering the event
for the Athletic joins us on the program. Joe, thanks
for joining us. What exactly did you expect going into
(00:25):
this game, the South to the South Sudan game?
Speaker 3 (00:30):
Yeah, uh yeah, you know what. I honestly, I thought
that USA would win going away, that this would be
another thirty point drubbing. You know, I was there with
South Sudan and Manila when they qualified, and I had
actually sat down with common maluwash who's going to duke?
(00:53):
I really like them. I just thought, you know, I thought,
after what we saw against Serbia where the United States
was just dominant, I thought we would see the same.
Speaker 2 (01:04):
When did you start to get the inkling that they
weren't going to go away?
Speaker 3 (01:10):
So this is the part where we need to have
a little bit of a conversation, because when you see
South Sudan play the way they were playing early in
the first quarter. You almost immediately remember that since I
started covering this team USA five years ago, I've seen
(01:30):
them lose nine times. Think about that, nine times with
rosters of twelve American stars.
Speaker 2 (01:37):
So this is a thing that happens.
Speaker 3 (01:40):
I was there when Nigeria beat the United States in
Las Vegas. You know, I've seen all the losses.
Speaker 4 (01:45):
Of Manila and on and on and on.
Speaker 3 (01:48):
And it's true that the spread was was crazy, like
forty something. And it's also true that none of South
Sudan's players are currently in the NBA. That is true,
but they have guys that they have Wynyan Gabriel, who
is Lebron's teammate on the Lakers.
Speaker 2 (02:06):
And they have JT.
Speaker 3 (02:07):
Thor who was playing in Charlotte, and they had the
kid that played with the Bulls for a couple of years,
you know, off and on. And then they have Mayuwash
who's literally going to do He's going to be Cooper
Flag's opponents. So this isn't you know, the South Sudanese
in terms of like what we would think of like
(02:29):
without knowing the backstory. I mean, most of these guys,
they got the leading scorer whose name escapes me. He
went to Virginia. He was born in Canada, you know,
I mean he played major American college basketball.
Speaker 2 (02:41):
So yes, it was a shocker.
Speaker 3 (02:45):
Yes it makes you uncomfortable. But when you think about
who's actually on that team, and you think about what
has happened with US basketball over the last five years,
like it wasn't as big of a deal as we
want it to be.
Speaker 2 (02:59):
Yeah, but there's the coronation. This is the greatest team
ever assembled. It's better than the Dream Team here.
Speaker 3 (03:05):
Yeah, yeah, by me too. I'm certainly guilty. Event I've
written it several times, you know, but this is this
is the Dream Team's fault. When the Dream Team was
created in ninety two, there was no global basketball. I
mean they were, of course, countries were playing it. But
the creation of that team literally led to what we
(03:27):
have today, to where these other countries are good. So,
you know, the South South Sudanese, they are not Angola.
You know, the team that Michael Jordan and those guys
beat by eighty or whatever it was. It's it's not that.
And I do recognize that that the Dream Team was
never challenged, and so the team that arguably has better
(03:51):
players on it than those guys shouldn't be challenged either,
except we forget what has happened in the rest of
the world. I mean, the current the best player on
Earth is not Lebron, It's not it's it's Nicola Jokic.
And if it's not Nicola, then it's Luka Dancic. And
if it's not Luca, then I guess we have to
(04:12):
have a discussion about Shay Gildess, Alexander or Jannis Chancet Zakupo.
Neither of those guys are Americans. So yes, the Americans
are the best team, They're the deepest team. They should
win the gold. But it's okay if they get challenged,
because it's just a different landscape than it was in
ninety two.
Speaker 2 (04:30):
This is just a wake up call, not a red flag.
Speaker 3 (04:33):
To you. Well, I think it's both. I mean, it's
it like we could say it's a red flager. We
could say it's a reminder. I mean, did you know,
I mean you you're very busy man, You've got a
lot of sports to keep track of.
Speaker 2 (04:47):
But did you know they'd.
Speaker 3 (04:48):
Lost nine times in five years? I did not, Okay,
I mean, so think about that, like we every four years,
or if if you happen to pay attention to the
World Cup. Then two years out of every four we
tune in and we're thinking, oh, yeah, team USA loaded,
they're gonna win, They're gonna run, you know, blow everybody
out by fifteen or twenty points. And it's actually not
(05:09):
like that anymore for a few reasons. But even when
we get to these Olympics, you know, the last USA
team that had Durant and Drew Holliday and Tatum and Booker.
Dame Lillard was on that team. Those guys, they lost
to Australia in Las Vegas. They lost to Nigeria in
Las Vegas, and then we went to Tokyo in game
(05:30):
one that counts, they lose again to France. So I mean,
these are things that happen, and it's a good reminder
of how difficult this can be. I do think it
was a wake up call too, And Steve Kerr had
taken a lot. He tried to take the blame, saying
he didn't have this team ready. The Americans did not
(05:51):
do their normal pre pregame work, They did not shoot around.
They got to the arena late because traffic here stinks,
and the tunnel right out in front of O two
is closed, so all their stuff was thrown off. And
it's a reminder that it doesn't matter who they play.
Once we get the lele, it's gonna be the same thing.
(06:14):
Every time they're gonna shoot around, they're gonna prepare, they
will be ready to go, because I do think when
this team is ready to go, they're hard to stop.
And just look at what happened in the second half.
Lebron was out of his mind, and you know, if
it's if he's not gonna do it, then Steph Will
or aunt Will or Davis that plenty, plenty of weapons.
(06:34):
They just have to be focused and locked in.
Speaker 2 (06:37):
Were you able to talk to Lebron about the honor
of carrying the torch?
Speaker 3 (06:41):
No, because that that just happened, and they don't do
access in the mornings for shoot around, so we will
see him tonight. We were talking, not with Lebron, but
you just before the South suit An game, talking with
some of the USA officials about would there be a
(07:02):
flag bear coming off of this team, and no one
actually knew, which I thought was pretty cool. They hadn't
They didn't know yet with you know, they think the
vote was counted over the weekend. Now, to keep in
mind that there's going to be a female athlete too,
there's always two and so if I had to guess,
I don't know this, but I would guess Simone. You know,
(07:23):
I think that's a pretty powerful one two punch there
of Lebron and Simone Biles as the US flag bears.
But I guess we'll find out Tuesday.
Speaker 2 (07:31):
Great stuff as always, Joe, thanks for joining us.
Speaker 5 (07:33):
Okay, thanks for having me.
Speaker 2 (07:35):
That's Joe Varden, senior NBA writer for the athletic covering
Team USA as Team USA survives South suit In.

Speaker 2 (08:57):
Let the Games begin. The Olympic Games will start in
a couple of days in Paris, and the tune up
for the US Olympic team didn't go well as scripted.
With South Sudan, they were forty five point favorites. They
held on to win thanks to Lebron. James with as
it's weird to say this. You know Lebron had a
(09:18):
clutch layup against South Sudan. They're like, uh, wait a minute,
you don't put those two together. Give credit to South
Sudan because this meant everything in the world to them.
Team USA, it didn't mean anything to them. But this
is what you have to guard against every team you play.
Once you they're ready for you. They're gonna give you everything.
(09:40):
You know, you got guys who are all time greats,
and there's like a loose ball. I don't think I'm
gonna dive South Sudan. You're gonna have everybody diving for
that loose ball.
Speaker 8 (09:49):
Yes, Carlos Royo has been dining out off of his
performance against the US and the Olympics for twenty years. Like,
who's Carlins Royal? You say he was an okay point guard,
but he he went off against the Americans and beat
beat them in the Olympics. Hey, best performance of his life. Yeah,
And so if you're South Sudan, this is our like
(10:10):
gold medal game no matter what.
Speaker 2 (10:11):
And Team USA is still a prohibitive favorite here, followed
by Canada, France, Serbia and Greece and Team USA still
waiting to get Kevin Durant back. But still you would
think with that amount of talent, you know, so when
we go down the roster of South Sudan and then
somebody says, yeah, they got a kid who's going to
play at Duke with Cooper Flag. Okay, although they had
(10:32):
a couple of guys who played a little bit in
the NBA. Okay, they don't even have an indoor facility
in South Sudan to play basketball until recently. Okay, Team
USA had to get a clutch layup from Lebron. It's inexcusable.
I'm going to give South Sudan credit because they played hard.
(10:55):
That's their Olympics. They're playing against Team USA that win.
Even the fact that they went toe to toe and
barely lost, I can't imagine how that is going to
be received or was received in South Sudan. And they're
trying to grow this. I mean, this is a movie
waiting to happen. Remember Cool Runnings. I mean that's what
(11:16):
this is. With what Leuel Dang, who played in the NBA,
played at Duke. He's trying to cobble this together, no facilities,
he's paying for it. It's truly what they bordered on.
One of the greatest upsets in basketball history. And I
know it's a friendly and team USA. Well, you know
(11:36):
they're going through the motions there. This was monumental and
I don't know if it's a wake up call. I
don't know if it's a red flag. It's just you
can have the most talented roster ever, more talented than
the Dream Team. It's just the dream team. They were
going against countries that really didn't have a developed basketball program.
(11:56):
These countries now, for the most part, like Serbia does.
Serbia has got the best player in the world. France
is gonna have Victor Wembnyama, Rudy Gobert. Greece is always competitive,
Canada's got a ton of NBA, you know, roster experience,
so they're going to get their best out of these
other countries. The countries are better than they were in
(12:17):
nineteen ninety two, but they're better because of nineteen ninety two.
All right, poll question from Homer one is going to
be what Seaton O'Connor, we're cleaning up?
Speaker 9 (12:27):
Yeah, we're putting up there. We just put up there.
Who had the worst weekend? Not to be negative, but
the men's USA basketball or women's USA basketball.
Speaker 2 (12:40):
Oh it's the worst week.
Speaker 5 (12:41):
Oh the men?
Speaker 2 (12:42):
Oh yeah, by far.
Speaker 5 (12:43):
It's funny that the men.
Speaker 2 (12:44):
Did in a win. Yes, yes, but that's a loss.
That's a loss. That is that that's a terrible, terrible look.
You know, Team USA WNBA lost to the WNBA All
Stars the last time they did this in an Olympic.
There's a lot of talent, a lot of talent, and
(13:05):
everything seems to be lining up for the WNBA. The
timing of that now going into the Olympics, the fact
that that WNBA All Star team is probably the second
best team in the world and beating Team USA, you know,
just kind of heightens the talent level that you have
in the WNBA Team USA versus South Sudan. Not in
(13:29):
my lifetime, not in my lifetime. Made for a movie
and it almost happened when we do the documentary on
this team. Is the storyline here, that's when we knew
we were in trouble or that was the week i'p
call we needed. Then then you go, you know, there's
always a pivotal moment where it was like Kobe.
Speaker 9 (13:48):
Ran through Pal's chest and we were like.
Speaker 2 (13:50):
Oh, we're winning this. Well, then you get the voiceover
Liev Shreiver, who does hard knocks, you know. And then
the South Sudan game. It changed things. It changed a
mindset and it helped lead teen USA to a gold medal.
Weord galvanized. Yes, you're galvanized. I love that, all right,
(14:13):
So best and worst of the weekend. What you saw
that you liked you didn't like a lot of people
still trying to come up with my boat name, and
we're taking those suggestions, wonderful suggestions, and thank you for
taking time out from your busy day to call in.
And a lot of people have never called into the show,
but they finally found a reason because they are trying
(14:34):
to find the perfect boat name for my pontoon boat. Yes, Paul,
I was.
Speaker 10 (14:38):
At a marina this weekend, ironically, and I saw a
lot of pontoon boats, a lot of other boats. I
was walking the boatyard, as they call it, and there's
a lot of creative names.
Speaker 4 (14:47):
A lot are.
Speaker 10 (14:47):
About like I've made it in life, you know, like retirement,
like mint with a dollar sign on it. There's a
lot of references like that. I did see a few
pontoon boats, and they did have names. Oh one was
I gotta say this right, ship faced ship face s
h I p F A C D has like a
tiki bar.
Speaker 2 (15:07):
Okay, it was fun. Where was the name of the boat.
Speaker 4 (15:12):
It was on the side of the boat. Besides, it's easier.
There's more room there.
Speaker 2 (15:16):
Okay, because in the back you have the the engine there.
Speaker 10 (15:19):
I saw a couple in the back and a couple
on the side with pontoons.
Speaker 2 (15:22):
All right, so maybe I do it on the side.
Speaker 5 (15:24):
Yeah.
Speaker 9 (15:25):
A pontoon boat sort of strikes me as like the
El Camino of the boat world.
Speaker 2 (15:31):
Is that fair? I hope you mean by being really
really cool.
Speaker 9 (15:37):
Yeah and all, but also sort of like it's really
cool in a utilitarian but badass kind of way.
Speaker 2 (15:45):
I love El Caminos.
Speaker 9 (15:46):
I'm not. I'm not slighting el Caminos. Okay, they are.
They're unique in the automobile world. Because I'm going to
stick up for the El Camino. You're taking it as
a slide and it's I am okay, all right. I
didn't say, like the Pinto. Are you sliding my pontoon boat.
I'm not.
Speaker 2 (16:02):
I'm not.
Speaker 9 (16:03):
But there the pontoon boats are also very unique in
the boating world, are they not. Yes, right, just like
an El Camino is it's a party barge, all right?
Party barge sounds red, I'm not, Yeah, Paul, I.
Speaker 10 (16:16):
Would say the player comp for a pontoon boat. You know,
when you go to like an event or a city
and you're on one of those those mini vans, those
travel buses where everyone's on it and drinking and it's
air conditioned and everyone's yelling and screaming and having fun,
those party vans to like New York City or wherever
you're going, that's a pontoon boat. It's technically a boat
and it is on the water, but it's basically a
(16:38):
social atmosphere.
Speaker 2 (16:39):
But if I was going to actually have an actual
athlete who represents what the pontoon boat represents to the boating.
Speaker 4 (16:47):
Community, oh always fun.
Speaker 2 (16:49):
Is there a camp where whatever sport it is, you'd go,
you know what, he's the pontoon boat of his sport.
Speaker 4 (16:56):
Travis Kelcey.
Speaker 2 (16:57):
Travis Kelcey one around them all times.
Speaker 4 (17:01):
Probably underrated.
Speaker 2 (17:02):
He's a little higher end, I think than a pund
I think Jason Kelsey.
Speaker 9 (17:06):
I feel like now you're disparaging pontoon boats.
Speaker 2 (17:09):
Well, now I'm trying to be reasonable, like you know
when when when you know parents talking about their kids, Oh,
he's in the eighty seventh percentile. Or I'm trying to
downplay the pontoon boat a little bit.
Speaker 9 (17:19):
Is Pitbull the pontoon boat of halftime performers.
Speaker 2 (17:23):
He's got a lot of hits. He's got a lot
of hits. He had a lot of hits.
Speaker 9 (17:28):
He just might not be you know, if you're like
thinking of like different types of sailboats, it's like, all right, yeah,
there's the tailor switch beyonces of the sailboat in community
or motorized boats whatever, motor boats. But I think he's
gonna it's a solid perform think like a pontoon boat.
Speaker 2 (17:44):
No, he's like a jet ski.
Speaker 9 (17:46):
Dang that what He's just kind of high energy, annoying.
Speaker 10 (17:51):
Yes, I'll throw this at you. The music comp for
a pontoon boat. The surfer accous six singer Jack Johnson, fun, likable, breezy,
easy listening, drinking your hand, Okay, not.
Speaker 9 (18:07):
Going too fast, I would say more. Jimmy Buffett, Okay,
old school Kenny Chesney.
Speaker 4 (18:12):
Here you go.
Speaker 2 (18:13):
Maybe like that Chesney. Yeah, yeah, like Jack Johnson, we
pat him on, wonderful person, Big, I got hit, Jimmy Buffett,
God rest his soul. So maybe Kenny Chesney kind of
a pund.
Speaker 4 (18:29):
Ponto bo tour.
Speaker 2 (18:30):
You imagine this gets back to Kenny Chesney. Wait what
did he call me?
Speaker 3 (18:34):
Kenny?
Speaker 2 (18:34):
You know what, you're sort of the punchin boat of
country music. Maybe you know what, Blake Shelton might be
more pontoon than Kenny Chesney. Maybe maybe a.
Speaker 10 (18:48):
Pontoon vote couldn't score. Gwen Stefani. I'm not the first
person to say that phrase back to you.
Speaker 2 (18:58):
How about n t U n E on toon? Yeah?
Speaker 5 (19:04):
I got you?
Speaker 2 (19:05):
Yeah, so I got you.
Speaker 9 (19:12):
And instead of a money sign, it's a treble cleft.
Speaker 2 (19:16):
Cool kidding.
Speaker 9 (19:17):
Yeah, it feels like we're already at a Friday the
way we started out this Monday.
Speaker 2 (19:23):
Possibly a Sunday. Still, Yeah, best and worst of the weekend.
What you saw that you liked you didn't like? Good morning.
If you're watching on Peacock, thank you for downloading the app.
The Olympic Games return live from Paris on NBC and Peacock.
Our show will still be on peacock when the Olympic
Games start, so you know you can watch both. You know,
you can flip back and forth whatever you need to do,
(19:45):
but we will be here. We're always here for you.
All right. Back to the big story, Team USA holding
on for dear life. Here is Steve Kerr talking about
the close call with South Sudan.
Speaker 11 (19:57):
The ending was was good for us just to feel that,
you know, to feel the what what it's going to
be like in Paris and Lelle, so good experience for us.
Good reminder that, uh, when we play against teams, it's
the biggest game of their lives and.
Speaker 2 (20:17):
We have to expect everyone to play like that. Okay. Also,
Lebron James has been named the flag bearer for the Olympics.
And it's especially in the fact that you know.
Speaker 12 (20:31):
To get an opportunity to you know, represent your country,
you know, and in another fashion, you know, to be
able to understand how you prestigious, you know, this moment
is and for someone to have them to be able
to flag bearer and then to wave the flag for
not only for US as a man's national team before
all the Olympians. I hold that with the utmost honor
and uh, it's definitely something that that that my family
(20:55):
and my community and my friends, something they will live
on forever and crucial.
Speaker 2 (21:00):
A super humble bout. Okay, this isn't a knock on Lebron,
this is a knock on Team US. Say, if we're
going to announce that you are the flag bearer, can
we have it in a setting where Lebron's the only.
Speaker 4 (21:13):
Voice, like a ping pong tournament going on the background.
Speaker 8 (21:16):
Yes.
Speaker 2 (21:17):
So it'd be like if hey, uh, dan you just
got inducted into the Sportscasting Hall of Fame and then
I start talking and then all the Danetts start talking, Well,
this is a wonderful I just want to say in
my family is emotional and just in the history of
the world, and I just I.
Speaker 9 (21:41):
Could we have maybe set aside a room where Lebron
come on in.
Speaker 2 (21:46):
You're going to be bringing the flag in. You were
voted by fellow Olympians to bring in the flag USA basketball.
Speaker 5 (21:53):
They have the exclusive Yes, and it's a hotel and.
Speaker 2 (21:56):
They screwed that up like they did South Sudan.
Speaker 9 (22:00):
Oh, I can't believe like we're somehow giving credit to
South Sudan without just saying This is all about blaming
Team USA.
Speaker 2 (22:10):
You guys want it, then go get it. Stop goofing around.
There was part of me, I want a Team USA
to lose just for the story. I mean it didn't
mean anything for the gold medal, but just to kind
of for South Sudan because they played so hard and
they cared so much. And then you're like, I want
(22:31):
them to win. That's a better story. And they made
their threes. This is what it comes down to. If
you get a country that makes its threes against the
United States, then there's a chance that there's going to
be an upset. If Patty Mills and Australia hit their threes,
then you could have an upset like that. That's probably
(22:52):
what it'll come down to.
Speaker 8 (22:53):
Yes, Marvin Evan Fournier is Larry byrd MP in international
competencey she is c plus NBA players are the scariest
people in a national play.
Speaker 1 (23:02):
Be sure to catch the live edition of The Dan
Patrick Show weekdays at nine am Eastern six am Pacific
on Fox Sports Radio and the iHeartRadio app Seaton.
Speaker 2 (23:12):
The pole question from our two and what do you what.
Speaker 9 (23:15):
Are you gonna go with an hour three Well, let's see,
we got up there who had the worst weekend? Men's
USA Basketball, Women's USA Basketball right now sixty one percent
saying the men's That is a lot closer than you think.
Speaker 2 (23:28):
It would be than it should be.
Speaker 9 (23:29):
Yeah, yeah, because I mean the women they lost to
the All Stars, but it's basically two All Star teams, right, Yeah, yeah.
Speaker 2 (23:37):
I think that women's team, the All Stars would beat
everybody else in the world for a gold medal.
Speaker 9 (23:44):
We're also putting up there who had the best weekend?
WNBA or Lebron both good weekends.
Speaker 2 (23:50):
Okay, Lebron with the clutch game winning shot to beat
South Sudan forty five point underdogs. You know, I was
wondering about this with Lebron. He's going to be the
flag bear opening ceremonies and voted on by fellow Olympians,
and I was wondering, you know, in the Olympic spirit
of the amateur athletes, those who you know, only get
(24:12):
this stage maybe once every four years. If they're lucky,
maybe you get you know, you're able to do it
a couple Olympics. But Lebron's got everything, Like if you're
going to give it to Olympians, it's those Olympians that
we don't hear about when the games are over with.
That's what surprised me. Now, you might say, everybody on
(24:34):
the basketball team got together and go, all right, let's
give it to Lebron. We'll give it to Lebron. Give
it to Lebron. So there's twelve votes there. Did anybody
get anywhere near that? Simone Biles, Katie Ladecci, That's probably
where I'd go. So one of those two will probably
be there for the opening ceremony, but Lebron is going
to be the flag bear for the Olympic Games. What's
(24:57):
the pole question for the final hour? Which season would
you rather have? Scheffler or Schoffley? Okay, Schaffley has two majors.
I don't know if anybody understands if he's done anything
other than winning those two majors, winning the PGA in
the Open Championship, and then Scotty Scheffler. I think he's
(25:21):
won what four or five times?
Speaker 10 (25:23):
Paulie Scotti Scheffler is one major, he won five other
tournaments and still pretty early in the season he has
twenty eight million in earnings. Xander Schaffley two majors out
of four, no other wins on the tour. Okay, thirteen
million in earnings. Give me a major, give me two majors,
give me two majors. I understand.
Speaker 2 (25:45):
You know, Scheffler is the considered the best golfer in
the world, but he has not played well recently. Doubled
the earnings of Zander Schaffley. I would take a second major.
I would take a second major, and I think Scotti
Scheffler would take a second major if I said, hey,
(26:06):
you want a trade, but it'd be great to have
him on and ask him that. Or Xander Shoffley if
he joins us, I'd say, hey, you know you got
two majors? Or do you want Scheffler with what he did,
although we do recognize Scheffler as the best golfer in
the world, didn't putt like that. But Xander Schoffley, he
was lights out, man. It was almost methodical. It's one
(26:29):
of those where you go, it doesn't matter. Anytime. They'd
show a golfer and he have forty foot for Bertie
and he would, you know, never make it. And but
just like all right, lean by two, leading by three,
here he is another shot, All right, there you go,
another shot. There you go, There you go, there you go.
It was just He's just coming and it is relentless,
(26:51):
and everybody else was falling to the wayside. There eight
seven seven three DP show email address DP atdanpatrick dot com,
Twitter handle the TP show Best and worst of the weekend, Marvin,
I'm gonna start with you.
Speaker 8 (27:03):
Best of the weekend the WNBA. I think they did
everything right this weekend. They had page backers there who's
not even in the WNBA yet, but they're already getting
you prepare for their next superstar.
Speaker 5 (27:11):
Sheryl swoops other players legends like that.
Speaker 8 (27:15):
Worse of the weekend Team USA shooting seven for twenty
eight from three point range against South Sudan.
Speaker 2 (27:21):
No good, no Seaton. Best and worst of the week.
Speaker 9 (27:25):
My best of the weekend is Giants manager Bob Melvin
getting tossed before the start of the game on Sunday.
Speaker 2 (27:31):
That's always a treat.
Speaker 1 (27:32):
That's hard to do.
Speaker 2 (27:34):
Yeah, hard to do it is it is, it's stuff
to do.
Speaker 9 (27:37):
Apparently some tension had been simmering between mister Melvin and
the umpires throughout the weekend. I think there was a
phantom hit by pitch call where Melvin had a great
quote where he said something along the lines of I
don't like I've never seen an umpire talk a batter
into the fact that he was hit by the pitch.
Speaker 2 (27:56):
They're usually like, oh, yeah, I got hit.
Speaker 9 (27:58):
He had to talk him into no, no, no, take first,
you were hit by the pitch, trust me, go do it.
That's pretty amusing and also my even more bester Zendershoffley
winning It was another one of those times where he
doesn't win too too much, but when you see that.
Speaker 2 (28:12):
He was You're like, oh, look he did it. He
did it again, and we just had him on the
show and that was kind of fun.
Speaker 9 (28:16):
Yeah, he's turned into a guy that you root for
a little more.
Speaker 2 (28:19):
Yes, Ton, is it possible?
Speaker 13 (28:21):
Bob Melvin had family plans that he couldn't get out
of it. He's like, I gotta find a way. I
can't be here the next three hours. They'm gonna get
myself thrown out of Come on, Todd, I got promised
my wife we were gonna go to lunch and the
kids are back from wherever I got it.
Speaker 4 (28:32):
I can't be here today.
Speaker 2 (28:33):
Usually those things happened because there's something that happened previously
that you know to get thrown out before the game
starts means something happened in the previous game and maybe
it wasn't resolved and Bob Melvin getting getting tossed. Now
there have been There was a manager who told me
he got thrown out of a game on purpose once
(28:56):
he didn't feel well and he got thrown out. He said,
when he went out there, he goes, you know, to
the umpire, you got to run me. You got to
run me. And then you know, the the umpire doesn't
want to look bad either that he's going out of
his way to throw somebody out. You got to make
sure that you the umpire made the right call. But
(29:17):
this manager said that he wasn't feeling well because of
the night before having some beverages. Apparently, yes, Tom.
Speaker 13 (29:26):
I heard he got run because he had the runs.
Speaker 2 (29:29):
That is not that is not That's not what I want. No,
he he was overserved, I think, and wanted to be run,
all right, PAULI beston Worst of the Weekend.
Speaker 10 (29:42):
On Friday night, I was me entering through the channels
on CBS sports Net was the Arena Football League title game,
the championship game. I didn't even know the Arena League
was still in business because I had had contracting teams
during the season. The dan I'm sorry, but your Albanny
Firebirds lost to the Billings Outlaws forty six fort shootout.
But the game was played near the Meadowlands, not at
(30:04):
the medal not at the Medal Lands, near the Meadowlands.
The game, the Arena Bold Championship was played at a mall,
American Dream Mall in New Jersey. There's like this courtyard
area that is not actually the length of a typical
arena league field. They had to make it smaller.
Speaker 2 (30:20):
It was played in the mall, so it wasn't a
regulation indoor football league field.
Speaker 10 (30:27):
Not to my standards. And I was watching the game.
So if you were going to the mall to like
go to Saphor and get some stuff for your daughter,
you could just walk over and see the team's battling.
If you went to Saborrow to get a slice, there's
the game. They had to scramble to find a field.
They also had to scramble to find a TV partner,
and this is what they come up with. American Dream
Mall in New Jersey.
Speaker 2 (30:47):
Now that is a big mall, huge. I think they
got a like an amusement park in there like a
huge slide that you can see from the highway.
Speaker 10 (30:55):
There there was a triple decker of levels for you
to look down and watch the field. But people are
just walking by and there's like a babies are us
and you're walking by and so watching some championship football.
Speaker 2 (31:05):
It would have been great if the play by play
announcer would have said if somebody instead of at the
you know, he's at the ten, he's at the fifteen,
he's at the twenty. You know, he said.
Speaker 9 (31:13):
Babies are us, He's at tomorrow, he's at the wild Wings.
Speaker 4 (31:18):
Have Johnson make a left at the Sibarrow.
Speaker 2 (31:20):
He's gonna scarm yes time.
Speaker 13 (31:21):
Even the coin was Head's Orange, Julius tails k Jewelers.
Speaker 5 (31:24):
Let's get a go on, they put the coin.
Speaker 4 (31:26):
We'll meet at build a Bear.
Speaker 10 (31:27):
After the game of party, every kiss begins at Kate's
best and worse?
Speaker 2 (31:31):
Okay, all right, wild Todd, did you give me yours?
I have not? Okay?
Speaker 5 (31:35):
Best.
Speaker 13 (31:35):
On Saturday at the Open Championship, see who Kim gets
an ace two hundred and thirty eight yard seventeenth hole, first.
Speaker 5 (31:41):
Hole in one.
Speaker 13 (31:41):
During the ten times the Open was played, at Royal Troon.
The seventeenth hole is famously called Rabbit, as many considered
to be one of the more difficult short holes on
the course. Worst of the weekend. Pit Bull before me
at halftime the NBA All Star Game.
Speaker 2 (31:55):
Man, I don't I didn't appreciate pit Bull halftime. I
was hoping for maybe somebody different, But I wouldn't say
it's the worst of the weekend.
Speaker 5 (32:06):
Yes, marm So this is a question for you and Fritzy.
Speaker 8 (32:09):
Okay, So who would you guys have wanted to perform
halftime at the WNB All Star Game.
Speaker 13 (32:13):
I gave you mind Sabrina Carpenter, Olivia Rodriga wearing each
other two jersey realistically?
Speaker 2 (32:18):
Uh? Beyonce, I said, really, well, well go ahead.
Speaker 9 (32:23):
Uh?
Speaker 8 (32:24):
Ed Sheeron, how was it? Maybe someone like Nelly, someone
who had a run?
Speaker 2 (32:32):
How about Usher?
Speaker 9 (32:33):
It would be funny if you sat down and you
were like, all right, let's see what's going on WNBA
All Star Game halftime and Ed Sheeron walked out and
you were.
Speaker 2 (32:39):
Like, that's what I'm talking? Yeah, and Shearon, Now we're talking. Okay.
Usher has a residency. He did show up to give
Asia Wilson a hug. I think that was earlier in
the in the week, I had been nice if USh
gets out there and gives me a little bit. Did
the Super Bowl correct? Yeah? Yeah, Oh, he's too big
(33:02):
that he can't do halftime with the WNBA All Star.
Speaker 9 (33:05):
It's possible that some I'm not saying you, some people
might be overvaluing the real estate that is the w
NBA All Star Game halftime show.
Speaker 2 (33:14):
I don't know.
Speaker 9 (33:14):
We got all the possible These celebrities showing up courts
had more eyeballs on the game. Y, it's possible that
it's being overvalued slightly, slightly.
Speaker 10 (33:23):
I see what Setan's saying that I'm maybe looking too
hard into this, But if you look at the demographic
that's watching that game, that seems like the demographic you
want spending money on your product or products.
Speaker 4 (33:34):
I actually think Fritzy's idea.
Speaker 10 (33:36):
I don't know who Samantha Carpenter is, but she plays
to a younger audience. I'm guessing that seems like someone
who would work on that. She's a big deal. Now, okay, yeah,
she's a big deal.
Speaker 4 (33:44):
That might work in this group, which plays to younger females.
Speaker 2 (33:47):
Yeah, I don't know just Pitt Poll surprised me, that's all.
Speaker 8 (33:51):
Yes, Markman, And if your usher's team, do you even
give that any thought? That'd be a real downgrade. No
disrespect to the WNB, But going from the Super Bowl
to the WNBA All Star Game, that's not gonna work,
especially if you just did it.
Speaker 2 (34:06):
Is that like, oh, she did the Super Bowl ten
years he showed up at the event.
Speaker 8 (34:10):
Showing up there and performing at halftime are two different things.
Pit Bulls like, yes, yes, I will do it. Yes,
I've been sitting here in Miami just saying.
Speaker 2 (34:19):
Dalay, DJ Collin and pit Bull another one.
Speaker 5 (34:24):
I'll just go Pitbull.
Speaker 2 (34:26):
Oh you see, I don't I don't know. I see
DJ Collin, whoever his PR person or agent is, they
do an incredible job of getting him out there. He's
he's involved in a lot and I don't know what
he does is he is he a producer?
Speaker 13 (34:43):
I think he produces some music. I think we've been
brainwashing for thinking when we hear that name.
Speaker 5 (34:46):
DJ Klein's that is its great. You gotta check this out.
Speaker 2 (34:50):
John makes hits. He does massive, massive hits.
Speaker 13 (34:53):
Yeah, he just made another one while we're talking, another one,
another one.
Speaker 9 (34:58):
Okay, that's why says that is he like Timberland? Was
that the music producer he was? Yeah, yeah, it still is. Yes,
you still you still think too? Yeah, Timberland still think Timberland? Yeah, okay,
anything else there, Marvin, you're gonna bring.
Speaker 5 (35:15):
Up Joe Rule next year?
Speaker 2 (35:17):
Jow rule. Sure that would make sense.
Speaker 5 (35:19):
Yeah.
Speaker 8 (35:20):
Like those three guys, they're not quote unquote like Hall
of Famers or anything, but those are guys that had runs,
like massive runs for two or three years.
Speaker 2 (35:29):
Mike and Oklahoma, good morning, Mike. What's on your mind today?
Speaker 4 (35:36):
Okay? Sorry, what's up, guys.
Speaker 3 (35:38):
I've got a boat name that I haven't heard.
Speaker 5 (35:42):
I've got my high Wait.
Speaker 3 (35:43):
First boat name is Will Will Ferrell inspired.
Speaker 2 (35:50):
And they go with boats and shows, boats and shows boat,
boats and shows, boats and shows.
Speaker 5 (36:00):
Okay, I think we found our winner.
Speaker 2 (36:07):
Thank you, Mike. Do you guys know the reference with
Will Ferrell boats and shows from.
Speaker 5 (36:13):
The movie Step Brothers? Okay, but it's boats and I
don't h.
Speaker 2 (36:18):
Okay, okay, ho ho ho Christmas movie, Christmas movie. Okay, Yeah,
I don't think that would go over well with the family. Yeah,
just saying smoke show another one interesting. Yeah, didn't we
make a T shirt as a tribute to Hannah's storm
(36:42):
and called it Smoke Show. I think it's possible.
Speaker 8 (36:46):
I think.
Speaker 2 (36:48):
I think whenever Hannah's name came up seeing we'd go
Smoke Show. And then we made a if you go
right out the door where Fritzy is to where you
know they're uh directing the show, on the right side,
there's Smoke Show T shirt.
Speaker 4 (37:03):
I think she'll take it as a compliment.
Speaker 2 (37:06):
I would, yeah, I mean she may not want that
compliment from us, but a bunch of drooling more on. Yes, Hey,
we may do a legend, a legend. Yes, so Smoke
Show
