Speaker 1 (00:00):
You are listening to the Dan Patrick Show on Fox
Sports Radio Final Hour.
Speaker 2 (00:05):
In this Tuesday Dan and The Dan Ats Dan Patrick Show,
Scott Hansen, NBC Peacock Gold Zone, he'll join us. Coming
up a little bit a lot to recap from yesterday.
Simone Biles wrapped up her vacation in Paris, and Noah
Lyles it will be in the finals of the two
hundred meters and the man named Mundo Armundo Duplantis he
(00:28):
set the world record, the Olympic record in the pole vault.
He said both that it was fun because once you've
won the gold medal in the long jump and in
the pole vault, I don't know if they do that
in the high jump, but they do it in those
two events where they say, you want to go for
the record, and I don't know if somebody wants to
(00:49):
try for you know, Bob Beeman's all time record in
the long jump. But still if you win the gold
medal and you go, you know, give it a shot here.
And he had three tries and got it on the
last try. So it was a fun little up there.
You got basketball team USA, the men's team. They're favored
by twenty seven against Brazil basketball. I don't know if
it's final Australia versus Serbia, Canada facing France as well,
(01:13):
so some of the Olympic basketball team, USA, the women's
basketball team will be in action. Is that tomorrow, ton,
It'll be tomorrow three, third Eastern and they are playing
They are playing Nigeria, Nigeria, all right? Eight seven seven
three show email addre Sdpatdanpatrick dot com, Twitter handle at
DP show Pole. Question for the final hour is going
to be what Seaton? Let's recap a few shall I?
Speaker 1 (01:36):
Okay?
Speaker 3 (01:37):
You can have on your team an all Pro running
back or an all Pro kicker?
Speaker 2 (01:42):
Right now?
Speaker 3 (01:42):
Fifty five percent of the audience are taking the running
back or would you rather be a running back or
a kicker? Right now? Eighty two percent would rather be
a kicker?
Speaker 2 (01:52):
Okay?
Speaker 3 (01:52):
Interesting? And if you are Brandon Ayuk, who would you
want to play for?
Speaker 2 (01:56):
Right now?
Speaker 3 (01:56):
With forty six percent of the vote, we've got the Steelers,
followed by Brown Commander's Patriots and.
Speaker 2 (02:01):
Least Yeah once again. The NBC Sports Bay Area reported
overnight the Niners are looking at the Browns or Patriots
as a destination for Brandon Ayuk and he has the
ability to be able to say no to any trade.
He's twenty six years of age, going to double his
salary and wants to get paid. Leaving that offense there
(02:22):
with San Francisco. But there were other teams, the Commanders,
I had heard the Commanders initially, and then the Steelers
who are involved. Now looks like it's down to the
Browns and the Patriots. But he may not want to
go to either one of those teams. I would expect
the Browns that we've already heard that Monti Cooper is
I think part of that trade that San Francisco reportedly
(02:45):
wants a veteran in return for Brandon Ayuk, who is
going to get paid. And once again the big winners
will be Ceedee Lamb and Jamar Chase because they're keeping
a close eye on this to see what they're co
track will be worth. You know, it's tough when you're
negotiating with the Cincinnati Bengals because Mike Brown, you know,
(03:06):
he just doesn't do this very often where he overpays
even compensates correctly. That's why you know Joe Burrow got
paid but t Higgins did not. Jamar Cha like, this
is why you draft if you don't draft Jamar Chase
in the top five unless you think you're going to
pay him as a top five wide receiver, He's worked
(03:29):
out perfectly for you. And that's what I don't understand.
If you're drafting him and this isn't a running back,
you're drafting him, you expect him to be great. Why
don't you compensate him for that greatness? You know it's
not a running back in Saquon Barkley where, Yes, did
the Giants make a mistake in drafting him where they
(03:51):
drafted him? Yes, we can look back and say yes,
even though in the moment I was in favor of it.
But you know, they eventually let him go so they
didn't compound it by signing him to another long term contract.
But with the Bengals, this is what you want. If
you're taking a wide receiver, he better be great. Now,
the question is have you seen the greatness? And then
(04:13):
you don't want to spend thirty million dollars on Jamar Chase.
Now it might come down to that, that's your philosophy.
But Ceedee Lamb. Same with the Cowboys, and we said
this before with Ceedee Lamb, he's great. You expected him
to be great. He's a first round draft pick. Pay
him now. Nope, we're gonna wait, and then we're gonna wait,
and then we're gonna wait and then they're gonna sign him.
(04:37):
Same thing with Dak Prescott, Gonna wait, gonna wait, gonna wait,
although with Dak maybe they don't. Maybe I don't know
what Jerry's philosophy is anymore. I don't know if he
has a philosophy to begin with. But you know, these
these Brandon Nayak's gonna get a lot more money than
you think. And he's you know, when you go down
the roster, there of Christian McCaffrey, and you got Debo,
(04:59):
and you've got George Kittle, and then you got Rock Party,
and then you kind of get to Brandon Nayuk, who
is very underrated. He might not be underrated very much longer.
He might be overrated, might get overpaid, but I can't
blame him. He's twenty six. Get paid. Then you want
to circle back and maybe try to win a Super
Bowl with another team later in your career. Great get paid.
(05:21):
Stat of the Day is always brought to you by
Panini America, the official trading cards to the Dan Patrick Show.
Good morning. If you're watching on Peacock, thank you for
downloading the app. We say good morning to iHeartRadio, Fox
Sports Radio, all of our affiliates around the country. Jim Harball,
now the Chargers coach, denies any involvement in the so
called cheating scandal that the NCAA is investigating Michigan about.
Speaker 4 (05:46):
Never lie, never cheat, never steal. I was raised with
that lesson. I've raised my family on that lesson. I
have preached that lesson to the teams that I've coached.
No one's perfect. If you stumble, you apologize, and you
(06:07):
make it right. Today, I do not apologize.
Speaker 5 (06:13):
I did not.
Speaker 4 (06:13):
Participate, was not aware nor complicit in those set allegations.
So for me, it's back to work and attacking with
an enthusiasm unknown to mankind.
Speaker 2 (06:26):
I did love the end of it. But you're not
going to change, you know, your direction on this. If
it was denied, denied, deny, denied, didn't do it, didn't
do it, didn't do it, then what would change is
you go to the Chargers. Did all of a sudden
you have truth serum and you go, you know, maybe
I wouldn't tell them the truth. Ah, you got me,
he asked me. The question here, guilty is charged. You're
(06:49):
going to continue with this and he doesn't have to
answer anymore. He's answered it, and he can say that
now when somebody says, hey, although somebody's going to come
back or they should when more information comes out with
the investigation, and then they're going to say, a coach,
how do you respond to this that you were told
this or you were given this, or you know somebody
(07:13):
who was on your staff did this. Then he's going
to have to answer that. But right now it's denial.
I mentioned this at the end of last hour. According
to ESPN, International, recording artist Pitbull is purchasing the naming
rights to Florida International's football stadium. He's going to pay
the school one point two million dollars per year for
the next five years. They're going to change the name
(07:35):
of the stadium to Pitbull Stadium, per Florida International University
Board documents. Well, if that's the case, then why doesn't
Florida International. Oh, you're giving me some pitbull ladies and gentlemen,
(07:55):
the pit bull.
Speaker 5 (08:04):
Gimme.
Speaker 2 (08:07):
Now he doesn't sing that, does he? It's Pitbull featuring
Neo Oh Okay, so Neo is the actual singer. That
would be the Neo portion of that would be that
would be the actual singing portion of this.
Speaker 6 (08:18):
It started out with Pitbulls.
Speaker 2 (08:20):
Oh yes, okay, you can't say feet feet thank you,
ton Well Florida International, you should change your name to
the pit Bulls.
Speaker 7 (08:31):
I think that the panthers.
Speaker 2 (08:33):
Huah, come on, let's blame the building.
Speaker 7 (08:35):
Holds twenty thousand to be rocking though.
Speaker 2 (08:38):
Now the pit that's what we're gonna call it. Yeah, yeah,
here we go doing the work for him.
Speaker 3 (08:41):
Man, yes, set So other than vanity, why do that?
Speaker 2 (08:50):
Uh, South Florida? Maybe I would say vanity?
Speaker 3 (08:54):
That is that? That's really the only play?
Speaker 2 (08:56):
Right, Well, there's probably a right off, isn't it. Why
Why is it a right off?
Speaker 3 (09:03):
Yeah?
Speaker 2 (09:04):
I know he's given to the university.
Speaker 3 (09:06):
Is that so that's a donation? Maybe yeah, I couldn't.
Speaker 2 (09:10):
Ok that.
Speaker 3 (09:10):
We'll see now now we're starting to get somewhere. Now
it's making sense and he's getting publicity.
Speaker 2 (09:15):
Yeah, but yes, Tom, could you just put put Pitbull.
Speaker 8 (09:19):
On one of your sports cars and cold a day
and just get the personalized likeness play.
Speaker 6 (09:22):
It's gonna be on a stadium. Now, this is why
we're doing.
Speaker 2 (09:25):
Thank you, Tony. He's given back to a university. When's
the last time you did that.
Speaker 6 (09:31):
They've got plenty of my money in various schools around the.
Speaker 8 (09:33):
Country, still asking for more.
Speaker 7 (09:36):
Fair f i U football last year was four and eight.
Speaker 2 (09:38):
Dan, Okay, they had as many wins as Dion did.
Speaker 7 (09:41):
All right, they're gonna turn it around now.
Speaker 2 (09:45):
Their coach wasn't named Sports Illustrated Sportsman of the Year though,
checking the pit bulls.
Speaker 3 (09:50):
Uh okay, well good, that's definitely like a real I
made it moment.
Speaker 2 (09:55):
Though, you know what? Yeah, I what do you mean?
Speaker 8 (10:00):
Yeah?
Speaker 3 (10:01):
Dude, he said they're naming the stadium of like of
the school and like I'm assuming the neighborhood that he
grew up in the high school he went to. It's
like two miles down the road. Yeah, that's like a
massive you know what, I'm gonna throw my name on
the stadium.
Speaker 6 (10:13):
Why not?
Speaker 2 (10:13):
What? But when Jimmy Kimmel, you know, had the naming
rights to that Bowl game, did we go?
Speaker 5 (10:18):
Boy?
Speaker 2 (10:19):
You know, he's made it Now.
Speaker 7 (10:20):
That was more snarky, but I loved it.
Speaker 3 (10:22):
But he's still that was an odd game. This is
his five year commitment to something, but it was yeah,
one point two million dollars there one time.
Speaker 8 (10:30):
Not that he cares, but as the average person drives
by and sees pitt Bull Stadium, is the reaction more wow?
How cool is that Pitbull Stadium put his name on
the stair or is it really Yeah, but.
Speaker 2 (10:40):
You're an old man. If you're young, let's say you're
twenty five, you might go, that's pretty cool. Man, tik
talker's man like, we're going to the pit. I don't
know how much money does pit bull way? Okay, pitbull
career salary gain. Yeah, let's do pitbull career salary again?
Because I have no clue about this guy's career. I
already know, so I'm gonna recuse myself seating tracks a weekly,
(11:03):
say this that's the origin.
Speaker 9 (11:07):
How about we let this person sing he is our neo.
(11:30):
There could be a pitbull fist pumping. Okay, I have
no idea what.
Speaker 2 (11:40):
I'm sure he's made a far more money than i'd
ever think, Todd, what is the career salary of Pitbull?
Speaker 8 (11:49):
Three hundred and sixty eight point two million dollars?
Speaker 2 (11:51):
All right, Seaton, no countere Todd is gross.
Speaker 3 (11:54):
That is very high. Todd is gross extremely high. That
is wildly inact. Okay, oh, you've already know Marvin.
Speaker 6 (12:04):
Sixty eight million dollars sixty.
Speaker 2 (12:06):
Eight million, insulting. I'm gonna say two eighty two to four.
Speaker 7 (12:14):
I have him in twenty twenty three alone making eighteen
million dollars touring.
Speaker 2 (12:18):
Okay.
Speaker 7 (12:19):
His net worth, they say, is between one hundred and
one hundred and twenty million dollars career sellary.
Speaker 2 (12:23):
Okay, solid, All right, done, well, yeah, a round up
appause for the pit bull. He's got naming rights money,
YEAHU of the ball? At what point do you get
naming rights money? Got to make over one hundred nine
nine figures? Yeah, like you get to one hundred million
now you don't have to run it by your wife
where it's like you wrote a check for one point
(12:45):
two million dollars pitt uh, where did it go to?
Speaker 3 (12:50):
Thinking about investing in the Seaton O'Connor School of Broadcasting
or you know, at West Virginia University or something.
Speaker 2 (12:57):
Yeah, those are all naming.
Speaker 7 (12:58):
Run in all seriousness, not joking. I think where Miami
University plays is hard rock stadium. Do you call the
rock and say, it's already called hard Rock Stadium. Yeah,
you don't have to transition that much to call it
Dwayne the Rock Johnson Stadium. If I'm Miami, I'm calling
the Rock today and saying give us, give us twenty million.
And why does he care? He played there?
Speaker 2 (13:18):
Right, he was on the team there.
Speaker 7 (13:20):
Okay, well, I mean that's both ros.
Speaker 2 (13:23):
But why does he need to do that?
Speaker 7 (13:25):
Because he has five times as much money as Pitbull?
And that's yeah, but why does he need to do that?
Not need? I just I'm just saying I'm Miami, I
would call if I'm.
Speaker 2 (13:35):
The Rock, I don't go, you know what I'm gonna
spend unless you want to give to your university. But
I don't think you go, you know what, I'm going
to give you a twenty million and I want my
name up there in lights. You're the Rock. You don't
need to pit Bull. Probably he would need a little
boost here. Yeah.
Speaker 3 (13:50):
See, that's why they usually do the things like the
Seaton O'Connor Theater. That's the stuff that you do, like
you a library, donate your library, or the medical school
or you know, you resell the name of the stadium
every five years, so you just keep making money.
Speaker 2 (14:04):
Yeah. I remember being in meetings when people at No
Fear were going to purchase the naming rights of the
Oakland Coliseum for the Raiders, and I remember being asked
by one of their executives, do you think that we
should do this? And I said, if you have the money, yes,
because it's the Raiders and it's No Fear And for
(14:26):
whatever reason it fell apart, or they decided not to
No Fear kind of fell apart too, but just the
fact that you could have No Fear stadium and it
had to do with the Raiders, I said that would
be a perfect marriage there. All right, poll question for
the final hour seating, did you locate one?
Speaker 10 (14:44):
Yeah?
Speaker 3 (14:44):
We got three of them working right now. We're very
focused on well, I think more off air than on
air about the value of running backs versus kickers, which
is not a good sign for running backs. I don't
know why we continue to Okay, kick them while they're down,
but okay, if.
Speaker 2 (14:58):
I take do I take Justin Tucker and Christan McCaffrey
out of this orgin? Well that's only singular. We're only
doing a singular there, that's a you want Christian McCaffrey
or Justin Tucker. You're talking running back or kicker.
Speaker 7 (15:13):
Kind of the same thing. They're like the face of
this question.
Speaker 2 (15:15):
I know, but you if you said I could have
Harrison Butker or Isaiah Pacheco, it's not even a question
in their teammates. If you said I could have Justin
Tucker Christian McCaffrey, I'd take Christan McCaffrey. Both are going
to the Hall of Fame. It might be more of
a discussion than the football purist would believe that it
(15:38):
should be. But Justin Tucker affects games. I got Christian
McCaffrey affecting a game in let's say thirty five plays
or the potential for thirty five, maybe forty plays in
a game. Yeah.
Speaker 3 (15:51):
Seen, So if you're looking, then Justin Tucker, Derrick Henry.
Derek Henry's obviously new to the team, but Justin.
Speaker 2 (15:58):
Tucker not even close. I don't know if there's another player,
another running back where I go, Justin Tucker or Christian
mccaffery's the only one where I go. Yeah, but let's
say Derrick Henry and Harrison Butker. I'm still taking the kicker.
It's just because the running back isn't as impactful, and
(16:23):
it feels like we replace these running backs and now
we do replace kickers. You know, there's times when you go,
did he used to be? Yeah? But then he went
there and then he came here. Nobody's like Justin Tucker.
He changed the position.
Speaker 3 (16:37):
I guess Harrison Bucker is apparently.
Speaker 2 (16:39):
Well, he's gonna be. He's part of the Super Bowl
winning teams and he's been a very clutch kicker. But
he's not Justin Tucker.
Speaker 3 (16:47):
Somebody has to get to the point. See, this is
the thing that I struggle with, is that somebody has
to get to the point where the kicker can even
be used. I get that there's other positions that can
do that too.
Speaker 2 (17:00):
Using your quarterback and wide receiver, not necessarily your running back.
There's only one. There's only one guy, and maybe Saquon
Barkley can have that impact with the Eagles. You're right,
I understand what you're saying. We got to get in
position for you to do your job. Without us, you
can't do your job. I agree, I mean right, like
(17:22):
Derrick Henry would be the counter that act. Because the
Titans are pretty terrible for a long time aside from
him being able to run through fifty thousand brick walls.
But you're talking about now after he's run through those
brick walls, and therefore, now you said Derrick Henry Prime,
then maybe you know that's a discussion. But there's not
(17:43):
many running backs where it is a discussion where you go, Wow,
would I rather have Frank Gore or throw out a
kicker Mason Crosby.
Speaker 3 (17:54):
You think there's been more great kickers in the game
than there have been running backs?
Speaker 2 (18:00):
Oh not in history? Yeah, oh no, no, no, the
game is littered with great running backs, right, Very few
kickers have gotten into the Hall of Fame. I mean,
vine Terry's going to go into the Hall of Fame.
But they've been really really stingy on putting kickers in there.
Morten Anderson finally got in. Who else, Pete gogolak Yan,
stenerud or they had the other kickers in there. That's it.
Speaker 3 (18:21):
If they affect the game so much, though, why are
they're so underrepresented?
Speaker 2 (18:27):
Same thing with the punters. McAfee said, it's a game
of you know, field position, and punters affect that more
than anybody else. I agree, I forget who it was.
Speaker 3 (18:38):
It might have been like Urban Meyer or somebody, but
he had the most interesting take of like, if you
can just get to say the forty yard line, and
we punt the ball and get them pinned back in
the ten, we've done our job. Yeah, now we're starting
in a great spot. And it's weird because he's talking
about basically going three and out, say or whatever. But
if you could just if we our first possession, even
if we can just punt and get them pinned back,
(18:59):
we've done our because we're starting the game the right way.
That's the fascinating way of looking at it.
Speaker 2 (19:03):
But it changes your whole offensive philosophy because now your
playbook shrinks a little bit, and you know, you get
a risk getting sacked at the two yard line or
in the end zone, and that you might just be
handing the ball off twice and then having you know,
third and eight, try to complete a pass there. All right,
let me take a break. We'll talk to Scott Hansen.
He's working for NBC and Peacock during the Olympics, the
(19:27):
Peacock Gold Zone. He'll join us coming up next year.
Dan Patrick Show.

Speaker 2 (20:13):
Scott Hansen, co host of NBC Peacock's Gold Zone Olympic coverage.
He is mister Red Zone as well. I don't know
if there's other colors coming his way, and you can
watch the Gold Zone right here on Peacock every day
at too Eastern throughout the Paris Olympics. Any other colors
we should be aware of, Scott.
Speaker 10 (20:31):
I'm hoping to pay off with some green zone after
all this attention like that.
Speaker 2 (20:36):
I like that you see you, Dan, Good to see you,
Good to see you. Give me the difference if there
is a difference in sort of the cadence of what
you're doing with the NFL Red Zone to the Gold
Zone with the Olympics.
Speaker 10 (20:47):
Yeah, it's there's a number of similarities and a multitude
of differences. Actually, it's ultimately a whip around show for
the Olympics. Just like Red Zone, we'll get you to
that action that is the hottest going on anywhere the NFL,
We'll get you to the action that's hottest in.
Speaker 5 (21:02):
Paris or Tahiti if surfing is going on at the time.
Speaker 10 (21:05):
So the concept is still the same, the cadence the
execution of it, as you well know, is completely different
for a number of reasons. One, in the NFL, we've
got a forty second play clock with which to work, right,
So I've got Aaron Rodgers taking a snap. I know
I can get to Kirk Cousins in another stadium and
then come back to it. Half of the Olympic sports
(21:26):
are untimed, so you don't have a clock with which
to work, let alone a shot clock or something that
you know that the action will be happening a minute later,
thirty seconds later. On top of that, you've got road
races that can last four hours long. You've got cycling
sprint races that the entire gold medal match is forty
(21:47):
five seconds. And then of course the fastest man fastest
woman in the world take nine seconds ten seconds.
Speaker 5 (21:53):
So the execution is a whole lot different.
Speaker 10 (21:55):
And another respect when I cut to a Cowboys game
on red Zone, I'm not saying, let's go to the
Cowboys game. This is a football team that plays in Dallas, Texas.
That there are eleven men over here. There are eleven
men over here. The field is one hundred yards long.
The scoring goes by six and then one or two.
(22:16):
After I go to fencing, I better explain. Okay, three
nine to three minute rounds scoring to forty five.
Speaker 5 (22:23):
Here's how you score.
Speaker 10 (22:24):
So it's like it's like reinventing broadcasting for an American audience.
Speaker 5 (22:28):
Every time we go to a different sport.
Speaker 2 (22:30):
Give me the sport though that has you be fuddled.
Speaker 5 (22:34):
Oh which ones don't? I'll tell you what.
Speaker 10 (22:38):
I can't believe that skeet shooting, which seems simple enough,
skeet shooting does not have instant replay. We had a
women's skeet shooting gold medal head to head match right
pull and two Claymor's boom, boom. They the powder pops
and stuff. The Great Britain shooter aslutely hit the target,
(23:01):
a piece of the orange flew off, it didn't burst
into powder, and all three judges missed it. The way
they judge that sport is they have a judge standing
right behind the one shooter and if that person misses it,
like the home plate umpire, did he check his swing,
they look down first base line. They've got the same
thing in shooting. All three of them missed it. The
TV replay was absolutely clear, and the woman lost her
(23:24):
chance for a gold medal because of that. That funneled
me in modern world, we can't get it right sometimes.
Speaker 2 (23:31):
Skeet shooting, scandal, question mark scandal.
Speaker 10 (23:35):
You guys should be talking about it for the rest
of the week here on the show.
Speaker 2 (23:38):
Dan And you know names are also tricky as well,
oh Man, because you know, normally you focus on Team USA,
but if Team USA is involved in competition with Team
Serbia or azer By Johnny, you know you gotta knows
a little bit about not a lot. You need to
(23:59):
know a little bit about a lot.
Speaker 10 (24:02):
You well know that the research department here at NBC
Sports is world class the attachment and the email that
we all received for the pronunciation guide for the Olympics
was one hundred and forty five pages of names and phonetics.
(24:23):
You want to play a little game with you and
the Danetes, if you don't mind, I've got so. I'm
going on my shift here for Gold Zone, we do
three hour shifts. I'm going on my at two o'clock Eastern.
I have a men's welterweight boxing match which features and
someone write this down and if one of the dan
Nets can pronounce this correctly, I will personally run over
(24:45):
there and give you one hundred dollars. And it was Bekastanian,
welterweight boxer. First name Asa d.
Speaker 5 (24:56):
K h u j A. That's the first name, second
name or last name m u y d I n
k h you j A e V.
Speaker 10 (25:20):
You're one of the world's greatest sportscasters, Dan. If you
can tackle that, this is history right here on the
Dan Patrick Show.
Speaker 2 (25:28):
Anybody want to take a stab at this.
Speaker 7 (25:31):
Todd Sagka, John My Dinkojev.
Speaker 10 (25:37):
You got I think you got the the the number
of syllables right, but no, the the emphasist.
Speaker 5 (25:44):
Was not on the right syllables on that one.
Speaker 2 (25:47):
Uh you want to try to or no, no, no,
this is now. This is where I say, And let's
bring in the analyst who we'll be doing the boxing here.
Speaker 10 (25:57):
I'm going to say the fighter from Uzbekistan. That's what
I'm going to say.
Speaker 5 (26:00):
But it is a sad hujah moidy who Ji is.
Speaker 2 (26:05):
But see, Okay, having done this before, there's nobody from
that country who's going to call you on this when
you screw it up. Just sound confident.
Speaker 5 (26:17):
Okay, I'm gonna got you. I'm going to lean into it.
I'm going to lean into it. And yeah, his mom's
not watching NU.
Speaker 2 (26:25):
Yeah, they're not calling up you know the network, the
you know the hotline and going he miss miss Britt.
I had a moment on Sports Center one time where
I had a story about Shaquille O'Neil. The graphics person
put up O'Neill as and spelled it like Paul O'Neill. Oh, okay,
Well the problem was Shaq's dad, Sarge was watching. Oh boy,
(26:49):
calls my voicemail and airs me out. You know my son?
How do you not know how to spell his I
don't even know what he's talking about. It's over my shoulder.
Speaker 5 (26:59):
Read it and yeah you didn't, you didn't write it.
Speaker 2 (27:01):
Yeah, yeah, yeah. So it's like people think we put
up the graphics there, the you know, the fonts and
all of those things, but yeah, you got to be
careful with that. But I think you're safe with you
know Who's Bekistan?
Speaker 10 (27:13):
Yeah, yeah, No, it's fun look at and you know
what if The great thing about gold Zone is that
if the fighter whose names we ken or cannot pronounce,
does something out of this world, we can bring it
to you that the crew at gold Zone is remarkable
because this hasn't really they've had gold Zone and i'll
pass two Olympics NBC Sports has, but it wasn't quite
(27:35):
done in the red zone style. This is they brought
me on to kind of bring that red zone flare
to it. We're we're we're driving the car as we're
assembling it, as the cliche goes, and we'll say we've
got something. There's thirty nine different sports at more than
forty different venues in Paris. We've got eyes on all
(27:55):
of it and if you trust us with your remote control,
we'll get you to where you need to go. And
there can be some of those moments. Did you happen
to catch Mondo de Plantis? Oh yeah in the pole
vault yesterday. I mean that was absolute goosebumps moments. I
don't care if you've never watched a track meet in
your life. Just thrilling, thrilling theater.
Speaker 2 (28:15):
I love when you yell out we have a medal.
Speaker 5 (28:19):
Oh yeah, metal medal alert.
Speaker 2 (28:20):
Yeah, we have a metal alert. Yes.
Speaker 5 (28:22):
You know how that came about.
Speaker 10 (28:24):
When NBC Sports was recruiting me, let's say, to sign
up to host this. I had a meeting with some
of the executives in Burbank, I live in Los Angeles,
and we're just discussing things and one of the producers,
Amy Rosenfeld, who.
Speaker 5 (28:39):
Was at ESPN for years and years.
Speaker 10 (28:42):
Amy and I were just talking, kind of geeking about
out about how can we really bring the Olympics.
Speaker 5 (28:47):
I said, do you know what you guys ought to do?
Speaker 10 (28:49):
So many times you cut to the track or the
swimming pool and it's a heat, it's a quarter final,
it's a semi final, and it's like, okay, there's not
really drunk. You need to let the people know, hey,
stop the presses. There's a gold medal, Like did it end?
Speaker 2 (29:01):
Did it end?
Speaker 10 (29:02):
The pick is in at the NFL Draft. And I
literally did this during this lunch and the lights went
on and they said, why haven't we been doing that?
Speaker 5 (29:09):
Like you're covering all these events.
Speaker 10 (29:11):
When it's a gold medal, there needs to be a
visual and audio representation of Hey, this is the part
you need to pay attention to. So we kind of
put the little graphic like the pick is in at
the NFL Draft for the gold medal.
Speaker 2 (29:22):
Alert favorite moment so far has been one.
Speaker 5 (29:25):
Ooh, there are a sense of good ones.
Speaker 10 (29:27):
I mean, the Mondo de plant Is setting a world
record when he didn't even need to attempt. It was
pretty good. I'm an American. I love when the USA
takes gold. However, my second favorite moment in any given
games usually has something to do with the home country,
the host country and France the judo heavyweight. I don't
(29:49):
know if you guys talked about this or you happen
to see this. Okay, France a judo heavyweight. He was
the co lighter of the cauldron. So that's how well
he's thought of. Right, you only put your best, your
most famous ass athletes, most popular athletes to like the
cauldron as the host country. Teddy Renaer heavyweight judo athlete,
and he won his heavyweight match with thirty seconds left
(30:12):
to go flip the guy over. It's called the eBay,
I believe is what they refer to it as in.
Speaker 5 (30:18):
Front of the home crowd.
Speaker 10 (30:20):
And then he came back two days later for the
team event, and I got to describe this to you.
If I have thirty seconds, they do a team event.
If they're tied, they they overtime. In team judo is
a random draw for two competitors from the same weight
class from you know, the gold and silver medalist finalists
(30:42):
go head to head. But the way they determine the
random draw is the price is right wheel, you know
the wheel that they spin on prices right for the
showcase showdown. They literally have one of these at the.
Speaker 5 (30:52):
Olympics for judo. They spin it and it's.
Speaker 10 (30:55):
Going kilograms kilograms kilograms going by on the thing and
it stops at ninety kg, which is the heavyweight and
other It was a WWE moment the crowd realizes our
champion straight out of a freaking Marvel movie. Our champion
(31:15):
is going against your champion, and the heavyweight division for
the gold medal, and Reneer won it in front of
the I'm getting I'm calling it. I'm getting goosebumps right now.
That may be my favorite moment from the Games.
Speaker 5 (31:26):
So spectacular.
Speaker 2 (31:27):
If I put you and Andrew Siciliano in that studio
and locked the studio and only one comes out? Who
comes out?
Speaker 5 (31:34):
Now?
Speaker 10 (31:34):
See, you gotta do this. They put us on air together.
They put us on air together, on camera together, which
we've hardly ever been maybe in a talkback when he
was working for NFL Media, we would do something, you know,
via satellite, put us on and the internet did what
the internet does with that. Andrew and I are buddies.
There is no rivalry.
Speaker 2 (31:56):
I just ask you a question, Scott. I'm a journalist. Okay,
yes you are are a lot taller, larger than Andrew.
But he's very scrappy. He's been an underdog all of
his life. Who comes out traveler, who comes out of
the octagon? I mean we're both Syracuse men too, by
the way. That now see there goes that ancient ESPN
(32:20):
because if Costas and I getting the octagon, I'm coming
out alive there right Oh yeah, okay, oh yeah yeah.
Speaker 5 (32:26):
Costas would have a team of lawyers waiting for you.
Speaker 2 (32:29):
It's okay, that's okay, all right, so you against Cecili.
Speaker 10 (32:33):
Oh my gosh, you're gonna make me. I had to
think of a good quipie SoundBite that dodges this question.
How can I? I mean, because look at truth be told,
we are in two different weight classes.
Speaker 5 (32:44):
So yeah, that's it.
Speaker 10 (32:47):
I hope it never I hope it never comes to that, Dan,
I hope it never comes to that. I'm just glad
that that people will still be watching NFL Red Zone
on the on the NFL and that Gold Zone.
Speaker 5 (32:57):
Andrew and I can share the airwaves.
Speaker 10 (32:59):
Gladly brothers in gold Andrew Siciliano and myself.
Speaker 2 (33:03):
Hoping to be draped.
Speaker 5 (33:04):
You almost got me. I almost said something. I almost
said something.
Speaker 2 (33:08):
I thought, you're in the content business.
Speaker 10 (33:11):
What are you doing? Well, I'm a guest on this
in this environment, not not not the host.
Speaker 2 (33:17):
All right, I'll leave it there, great to talk to you,
have fun. It's see you, Dan Hike you man. That's
Scott Hansen. He is a co host of the Gold
Zone and also the Red Zone. Just the look on
his face, come on, just so I know, just the
look on his face where he's like I could answer.
(33:37):
I can't answer this, Come on, I can't all right?
Last call for phone Calls? What we learned? Much in

What's in store tomorrow? This day in sports History, and
we start out with Aiden in Utah, Hi, Aiden, what's
on your mind today? Oh? Waited A long time Teddy
and Tampa Hi Ted.
Speaker 12 (34:34):
Hight End first time long time six three, two hundred.
So I just had an anecdote because you had Jared
Payton on the line. I was a University of Miami
student there one to five and not so much as
play on the field, but I also field for his
Green SUV with a JP license plate that would have
(34:56):
different and new rims on it every single month. It
would change on a monthly basis, and me being eighteen
unaware of NTAA, the corruption was so apparent. You know,
the practice fields are on the other side of Santa
Maro Drive across from Pratt Rowe and my freshman year
eight Cadillac escalades all in a row, then sophomore year
(35:19):
Hummer H two is back to back to back, and
I'm like, clearly there's some correct.
Speaker 2 (35:24):
Well, Jared did come from money with his father, but
I can't speak on behalf of all the other student
athletes at the U. Yeah, it's been corrupt forever. It
just did you want to see it. It's there right
in front of you. It's just everybody. You know, we
embraced NCUBLEA, embraced the student athlete, and I think it
(35:46):
was Wolder Buyers who ran the NCUBLEA back in the
seventies and gave us the student athlete. Well, that all
of a sudden adds some regal tones to it's a
student athlete. It's on. I just call you athletic students.
It's like kid, anybody and maybe you were going to class,
maybe you weren't, but you were giving. Everything was about perception.
(36:08):
We're giving the perception that they're student athletes when in reality,
even you know, the crappy basketball team I was on
in college. You know, the perception and the reality, and
we got to perceive, hey, this is what we do.
And they go to class and they got tutors and
they get I don't know if anybody that I was
(36:29):
with graduated now, I don't know if they even cared
they were there to play basketball. That's back in the seventies. Now,
are there great student athletes?
Speaker 6 (36:37):
Yes?
Speaker 2 (36:38):
Are there those who do graduate? Yes, I get all that.
But now we just raised the curtain and basically said,
and there's the Wizard of Oz right there. All right,
he's phony. This is what we have. Now they've embraced it.
Now we know exactly what it is, and now we
see how ugly it used to be.
Speaker 13 (36:57):
Yes, Marmon, between the athletes come for money now because
there's so many second generation millionaires that are coming into
college and the nil everyone should be Ryding and Beamer
Benzes and Bentley's everyone.
Speaker 2 (37:11):
I remember where one of the guys on the team
got a used money. Carlo, Like we weren't good enough.
My teammates weren't good enough to get new cars. They
got a he got a black money Carlo, and I
remember going, oh, such and such, wow, Okay, we don't
(37:31):
get new cars. He got a used car. This day
in sports history, Paul, what do you have for me?
Speaker 7 (37:40):
Eighteen ninety Cy Young got his first Major League victory
over raided. Never wont to say Young. He had five
hundred and eleven wins in his career. Nineteen twenty six.
I've used that joke like nineteen times.
Speaker 3 (37:52):
That's a good one.
Speaker 2 (37:53):
It's bad, ye, No it is. It's good.
Speaker 7 (37:55):
Slides past.
Speaker 2 (37:56):
It still works.
Speaker 7 (37:56):
Nineteen twenty six, Gertrude Elderly became the first American woman
to swim the English Channel nineteen years old. Gurdy fourteen
and a half hours, Gurdyikes nineteen fifty two, Satchel page
age forty six. Oldest picture to complete a Major League
baseball game. Willie Stargell of the Pirates in nineteen sixty
nine hit a ball completely out of Dodger Stadium. Estimated
(38:17):
feet from home plate anyone.
Speaker 2 (38:19):
Five hundred and twelve feet.
Speaker 7 (38:21):
I'm gonna give that to you five oh six.
Speaker 2 (38:22):
Okay, nice Uh, didn't Daryl Strawberry hit one out of
Dodger Stadium?
Speaker 7 (38:30):
Checking?
Speaker 2 (38:31):
I think it's it's the answer to it's a I
can't remember the trivia question, but I think Darryl Strawberry
hit one out of Dodger Stadium. Great when he was
in high school.
Speaker 3 (38:41):
Great swinging.
Speaker 2 (38:42):
I think when he was in high school. Yeah, straw
had one of those swings where you go, you know, here,
I am around the Mets in the early mid eighties,
and I'm seeing Dwight Gooden and I'm seeing Darryl Strawberry,
And if you would have said to me, then neither
of those guys will come close to the Hall of Fame.
And I went, there's no way, no way, at least one,
(39:05):
if not both, are going into the Hall of Fame.
Let me see if I have one. The Philadelphia NBA
franchise changed its nickname from the Nationals to the seventy
six Ers. That was nineteen sixty three. Final results of
the poll questions Seet O'Connor, I'm looking.
Speaker 3 (39:21):
At a list right here that says, as of July
twenty twenty four, six home runs have been recorded as
leaving Dodger Stadium. I don't know if this is only
Major League Baseball, though, which might be the caveat there.
Speaker 2 (39:34):
I think there's one that has to do. And it's
a trick question with Darryl Strawberry.
Speaker 3 (39:38):
Could be Daryl Strawberry not among them these flame Dang.
Speaker 2 (39:45):
You know, I'm forgetting as much as I'm remembering, So
maybe I'm just making that up.
Speaker 13 (39:49):
Yes, Marv, David Strawberry's got eight All Star Games, the
three World Series.
Speaker 6 (39:53):
Wow. Yeah, and he hasn't even sniffed the Hall of Fame.
Speaker 2 (39:57):
But felt like he underachieved.
Speaker 6 (40:00):
That's one of those guys we talked about yesterday.
Speaker 2 (40:01):
Yeah, let's see white socks. Anybody got the white Sox tonight?
Are we rooting for the right white Sox tonight? No?
Once again, it takes. It takes. I can't say talent,
but it's more of an achievement to lose twenty one
in a row than it is to win twenty one
(40:22):
in row. Yes, we just did.
Speaker 3 (40:23):
Was it yesterday that we did? Who wants them to
keep losing? Who wants them to keep winning? Does anybody
change their mind from that time? I definitely wanted them
to keep losing.
Speaker 2 (40:32):
You want them to win?
Speaker 6 (40:33):
Mark I wanted them to win, but since they lost,
just keep losing, Todd?
Speaker 2 (40:37):
Would you learn today?
Speaker 8 (40:38):
Jim Harbor doesn't want to talk any more about Michigan
spying allegations. Time to get back to work with a
further enthusiasm unknown to mankind.
Speaker 2 (40:45):
See what did you learn?
Speaker 3 (40:46):
Willie Stargell hit the ball out of Dodger Stadium twice?
Speaker 2 (40:50):
Boss Marvin?
Speaker 6 (40:51):
Would you learn Mike mean Daniel doesn't want to talk money.
Speaker 2 (40:55):
He was funny, sick of it. He was quirky, He
was funny. He was exactly who we thought he was
going to be. Polly, What did you learn tonight?
Speaker 7 (41:01):
Mike McDaniel made a lot of friends at Yale think
a lot of passes.
Speaker 2 (41:03):
Yeah, he said that he he led Yale in friendships?
Speaker 5 (41:07):
Todd?
Speaker 2 (41:07):
What did I learn?
Speaker 8 (41:08):
McDaniel says the abilities of his receiving core in Miami
or the exact antithesis of how he played Yale.
Speaker 2 (41:12):
