Ready to help you attack the day with an enthusiasm
(00:46):
unknown demand. Come all right, A couple of phone calls here,
Tom in North Carolina, Tom, thanks for holding what's on
your mind?
Speaker 3 (00:56):
Hey DP?
Speaker 4 (00:58):
According to Vegas, Thanks Tom, it looks like ADB. According
to Vegas, looks like the Patriots, the Panthers, the Giants
and the Broncos. Are kind of at the bottom of
the order, so I don't really want to suffer alone
this year. So I'm posing a pile of the face,
a two part of the face that with Fritzie that
the Panthers and the Giants will win more games this
(01:20):
year than the Broncos.
Speaker 2 (01:23):
Oh okay, uh, Todd is Todd is trying to bring
our guests in, so he's not able to you know what, Tom,
I'll ask him when Fritzie's got a free hand and
a free microphone. Yes, Paul or you can accept the
bet on behalf of Fritzy and do my favor. Okay,
all right, I'm going to accept that bet on the
behalf of Fritzie that Tom and North Carolina says Carolina
(01:48):
and the Giants will both win more games than your
Broncos this year.
Speaker 5 (01:52):
Wow, that's not happening.
Speaker 2 (01:55):
Okay, there you go. All right, So Fritzie's taking the bet.
There is Jerry with us.
Speaker 5 (02:01):
He is from Steelers camp.
Speaker 2 (02:03):
Okay, okay. Jerry Dulac has been covering the Steelers since
nineteen ninety three, joining us from a Steelers camp. Jerry,
thanks for joining us. Help me understand when we find
out who Mike Tomlin is going to give the nod
to be the starting quarterback.
Speaker 6 (02:20):
Well, Dan, good morning, It's always good to be with you.
I don't think you really have to wait for any
official proclamation. You know, Russell Wilson was brought in for
a reason, and that was to be their starting quarterback.
And Justin Fields wouldn't be here if they didn't trade,
if Kenny Pickett didn't have a hissy fit, and they
traded him, And so the intention all along was their
(02:42):
belief was Russell Wilson gives them a better opportunity obviously
than Kenny Pickett to maybe win a playoff game and
get back on the postseason track. So, and you know,
Justin Fields won ten games in three years in Chicago,
(03:05):
and aside from twelve practices a training camp and eight
possessions in the preseason, I don't think he's done anything
to change their mind. So there's really no debate here
unless Russell Wilson would get hurt.
Speaker 4 (03:23):
Now.
Speaker 6 (03:23):
Do I think they might have some packages for Justin
Fields a player too, I don't know, but I'll tell
you they should based on his skill set.
Speaker 2 (03:33):
Yeah, it feels like Mike Tomlin had just been vague
or that it was up for grabs. Maybe I was
reading too much into it, maybe it was wishful reporting
on my part, but just felt like he wasn't quite
all in on Russell, even though when he first got
him then he said he's our starting quarterback. But then
Justin Fields came in, and you're right, probably hasn't done
(03:54):
anything to really stand out. But it brought me back
to a time when you remember nineteen ninety six with Kawer,
with Mike tom Zach and Cordel Stewart similar It feels
like just Tom Zach, he's not Russell Wilson but age wise,
and then you had Cordel Stewart slash who is sort
of the Justin Field's role. Can you see them kind
(04:16):
of following that blueprint that model this year?
Speaker 6 (04:20):
Yeah, And I think Jim Miller was involved in that
quarterback competition if you will, back in ninety six, if
I'm not mistaken, But yeah, you know Dan, he's he
has been vague about it, and he always does that.
He's not one to make official proclamations. And even but
even though a week or two ago, I think heading
(04:44):
into the first preseason game and we were still up
in training camp, and he was asked about who's the
starting quarterback? Basically that was the question, and basically his
answer was what's on the depth chart, and Russell Wilson
was listed in one. And that's with him barely even
taking any snaps a training camp. So I don't think
(05:06):
there's any question that is has changed. I mean it
hasn't and I don't know that it ever has. And
you know, the kindest thing he said was that it
might have been anything given you some glean into what
was happening is when he said, well Russ is in
the pole position and he said that several months ago.
That's about as much as you're going to get out
(05:27):
of Mike Tomlin when it comes to saying, you know,
if there's any I think he likes to have that
little bit of mystery. So I think he plays with
the meat not I think, I know he plays with
the media a little bit and he lets him think
whatever they want to think.
Speaker 2 (05:42):
Looking at the division, maybe the recent history with the Steelers,
is there a scenario where Mike Tomlin would be on
the hot seat after this season?
Speaker 6 (05:52):
Well, I will say this after the owner comes out
and says, effectively, you know he's grown impatient end quote,
it's time to start winning some playoff games. And you
look at all the moves they've made, Dan, you know,
Russell Wilson is the on resume, is without question, the
biggest free agent they've they've ever brought in. Patrick Queen
(06:14):
was given the biggest money they've ever given a free agent. Uh.
Making the trade then for Justin Fields another quote, high
profile quarterback, albeit not a winning one. And and you
know trading, uh, you know, not being afraid to trade
Kenny Pickett and and Deontay Johnson to get a starting cornerback.
(06:37):
I'm not sure that was still a great trade because
they've depleted their wide receiver corps. But even the pursuit
of Brandon Ayuk, I mean they've made you know, they've
made a lot of big moves with the intention of saying, look,
we need to turn this around. And so to me,
it's the greatest pressure. It's certainly public pressure ever put
(06:59):
on Mike Talk. Now, does that mean he's on the
hot seat. I've never really believed that's the case here
until things start to really fall apart. And let's face it,
you know the sky fall is falling here when they
go nine and seven, and most franchises in the league
would be thrilled to be nine and seven.
Speaker 2 (07:17):
Great to talk to you. I know you have a
busy day. Thanks for setting us straight on this. Jerry,
you got it, Dan, good chat with you. That's Jerry Dulac,
who's been covering the Steelers for the Pittsburgh Post Gazette
since nineteen ninety three.
Speaker 1 (07:29):
All Right, so.
Speaker 2 (07:29):
Maybe I was reading a little more into it. It
doesn't feel like it's a of course, Russ is our quarterback,
and maybe it's been that way, but it just didn't
feel that way. I think that was what was interesting
about it. All Right, bo Nix gets the start for
the Broncos, and you got Jayden Daniels getting the start.
Drake May and Jaden Daniels square off Sunday night on
(07:52):
NBC and Peacock the final preseason game. I don't know
how much they play, but that could be if I'm drawed,
mail Man, I don't know if I want to go
with a rookie quarterback to start. They worked for the
Texans last year, but the Texans have talent the Patriots don't.
(08:13):
And do you want to put Drake May out there
as much as I like rookies to get a little
bit of a taste. I also want them to get
as much as you can control that taste that they get.
That's what I want. It's just when you have bad
personnel and then you put a quarterback out there, you
get into bad habits. And that could be the case
(08:34):
with Drake meg all right, a couple of phone calls,
A seat and pull question for the final hour of
this Sometime Award nominated program. Let me pull that up
for you here real quick. I have it written down. Okay,
all right, okay, how about I go to Aiden in Utah? Hi, Aidan,
what's on your mind today?
Speaker 7 (08:55):
Yeah?
Speaker 8 (08:55):
I was calling to talk about that bonus situation, the
lifelong for eight year long? Canl Blanco fans I ettead
of John Elway? If he is brock as s Wiling,
I will take it. You know we need something, I
will take it.
Speaker 2 (09:12):
No, No, come on, you wouldn't be satisfied with brock Aswiler.
Speaker 8 (09:19):
Since Peyton Manning. We have had sixteen different quarterbacks throw
with football.
Speaker 9 (09:23):
Okay, we need suck.
Speaker 8 (09:25):
I will take black oss.
Speaker 6 (09:26):
Isn't that that overtime wind?
Speaker 8 (09:27):
I guessnew we could if you can play like that.
Oh yes, I will fish that.
Speaker 2 (09:33):
All right, Well, thank you, Aiden, good luck, good luck
with your five win season or maybe six wins all
goes well, I think they're over under five and a half. Yes, well,
six wins good? That is just brutal. Okay, do you
realize what Fritzy's gonna be like every Monday coming up
real soon coming in here. It is going to be
(09:56):
a long season. You're gonna be sad, gonna be thrown things,
gonna be angry, to be high.
Speaker 5 (10:03):
Why can't we say, maybe you can win a nine games?
Speaker 2 (10:06):
You won't even buy a Bonix jersey, mister positive.
Speaker 5 (10:09):
Well, sooner than later and I'll at least get one
for the kid, and then maybe I'll do that. But
is there any chance that Broncos can be in a
road wild card game or is that an absolutely crazy
things that.
Speaker 2 (10:19):
I think that's crazy to say. And you don't drink,
so you're sober right now.
Speaker 3 (10:25):
So nine to.
Speaker 5 (10:26):
Seven and one and they just got a road wild
gude game where they.
Speaker 7 (10:28):
Lose by sixteen.
Speaker 10 (10:30):
Yes, Marvin, I will take a pie to the face
if they make the playoffs.
Speaker 7 (10:36):
There's no chance.
Speaker 10 (10:37):
Seven wins at best like a great season for them
is seven wins. All right, they're not touching the floor.
I'll take a pie.
Speaker 2 (10:45):
Okay, all right, Zach and fort Myers, h zak, what's
on your mind? We got a lot of pies. I
hope that Mario or somebody one of the back room
guys is writing this down. We have a tendency to go, oh,
that's right, or our audience reminds us Hey, Zach, what's
on your mind today?
Speaker 11 (11:02):
KDP Just a longtime listener, caller, a watcher, first time,
a caller obviously shout out to you the gang first
and foremost, but a dB. I see the background and
I heard you the other day saying you enjoyed some
Buffalo Trace with the big German on a Sunday night
before your Monday show. Are you getting into the bourbon game?
(11:25):
And if so, is there a bottle that you must
have out of the Buffalo Trace distillery that you want
to show up anytime soon?
Speaker 12 (11:35):
No?
Speaker 2 (11:35):
I mean I've been into bourbon for a long time, weller,
Buffalo Trace happy. I mean, there's so many bourbons out there.
I'm not in the bourbon business. I mean we're in
the moonshine business. But the big German brought up a
bottle of Buffalo Trace and I think you know for
the money, it is a great bourbon. So we were
(11:56):
sitting outside, had the fire pit gone, smoking a cigar
are and sipping on subourbon and a beautiful night. Jason
in North Carolina, Hi, Jason, what's on your mind?
Speaker 8 (12:08):
What's going on?
Speaker 12 (12:09):
DP?
Speaker 13 (12:09):
What's going on?
Speaker 2 (12:10):
Everybody?
Speaker 13 (12:12):
First time caller?
Speaker 6 (12:14):
Six feet two hundred.
Speaker 13 (12:17):
And two. Short things One, I'm an Oakland A's fan
in recovery, and it's been kind of sad to see
that really has been no talk for such a storied
franchise to be moving on, and what.
Speaker 6 (12:32):
John Fisher has done in that organization.
Speaker 7 (12:34):
Is incredibly sad.
Speaker 14 (12:36):
But the second thing I wanted to bring up, in
regards to your guys' conversation about power hitters that hit
for power but also for average got walked being an
open Agish fan in the late two excuse me, in
a late nineties early two thousands, Jason Johnby was my guy,
and his numbers in the year two thousand and two
thousand and one, whether they be juiced or whatever, were
(12:59):
incredibly presses. He was hitting three, twenty nine, three thirty
three for back to back years, walked one hundred and
thirty seven times. You know, just incredibly productive. I think
going to New York with the short porch messed up,
you know, his hitting capabilities, because he hit all all
fields out there in Oakland.
Speaker 13 (13:20):
But thanks for taking my call for it.
Speaker 2 (13:21):
I appreciate it, all right, Thank you, Jason Love Jason Jimbi.
He was a great guest on the program for many years.
But you know he was he was taking peds and
then you get to Yankee Stadium and then all of
a sudden it started unravel a little bit. But he
was He was great for that Oakland franchise because he
(13:43):
was the big brother there. When you're around him, you
were having a great time. He was the life of
the party. But sometimes I think you have guys who
have a conscience. I truly believe Mark McGuire had a
conscience of what he was doing. Now, maybe he didn't
think it was cheat at the time, but having known
Mark for a long long time, I just got that
(14:04):
feeling that he knew he was doing something and he
probably shouldn't have been doing that, or he knew he
shouldn't have been doing that. And maybe Jason, who was
really good friends with Mark McGuire. You know, there's part
of it that you do it and then you do
it kind of in anonymity, and then all of a sudden,
you're playing at Yankee Stadium or Mark McGuire was playing
for the Oakland A's, and then all of a sudden,
(14:26):
Oh wow, I'm playing in big games and the Cardinals.
I'm in, you know, one of the great baseball cities. Wait,
everybody's noticing what I'm doing. You know, Sammy Sosa played
for the White Sox. Nobody noticed him. Then he goes
to the Cubs. Games are on TV. All of a
sudden you got a home run battle, and then all
of a sudden people are going, hm, I don't know,
things that make you go hmm. And Sammy put up
(14:50):
unbelievable numbers, like he had four seasons that are crazy.
But nobody ever brings up Sammy Sosi for the Hall
of Fame. It never comes up because it shouldn't come
up because he was a cheater as well. Now we
had Tim kirkchin on and I had people say, oh,
are you softening your stance? The Hall of Fame is
(15:13):
a museum. I know, I'm a purest at times with
that because I always think of Hank Aaron, always think
of Hank Aaron because he did it the right way.
And I just don't want people to benefit by cheating
and then they're in the Hall of Fame with Hank Aaron.
It's weird, I know, but I've been holding on to that.
(15:36):
If you tell the story of baseball, and you want
to tell that story with all of these individuals, like
how much cheating is too much cheating? A Rod got
busted twice. If you get busted once, you should never
play the game again, but twice he should never be
considered for this. Bonds was unbelievable, Roger Clemens was unbelievable,
(16:00):
but then the unbelievable needed to cheat to continue to
be unbelievable. I just have a hard time letting them
benefit from that. But once again, it comes back to
it is a museum, and I don't want this to
be a topic that takes over the program. It's just
I brought it up with Tim Kirchin, and I do
believe tell the story of baseball. It is a museum,
(16:23):
and if you want to do it that way, there's
bad guys in the Hall of Fame and good, guys,
you aren't in the Hall of Fame. I just want
to make sure we're being fair as we move on.
What's the deterrent to not cheat if you know you're
gonna have a chance to get in the Hall of Fame?
And I do believe. And once again Pete Rose's name
(16:44):
came up, and I said, he has benefited more than
any other player. Any player in the Hall of Fame
has not benefited as much as Pete Rose has by
not being in the Hall of Fame. We'll take a break,
We'll lighten the mood. John Heater, who played Napoleon Dynamite,
joins us next year. Dan Patrick Show.

(18:28):
Ticket sales closed two hours before showtime and it's nine
thirty eastern. You can take part in that. We bring
in John and let me ask. Start out by asking
you the character of Napoleon dynamite. How much input did
you have on how he looked, dressed and how he sounded.
Speaker 7 (18:48):
I would say a semi fairly big large amount. You know,
on script there wasn't a lot of description there. But
you know, Jared has who I barely knew at the time.
He kind of would just do his version to me,
kind of like, show this is what I think, and
then I would be like, oh, yeah, yeah, that's how
(19:10):
I talked and how my brothers talked when we were younger.
So that's kind of I just did my frustrated like,
I just kind of yeah, kind of switched and moved
his you know, rearranged some of the stuff that he
would put out that Jared would do in my own voice,
(19:31):
and then yeah, how he looked, certainly, how he dressed,
and you know, we we went to like a thrift
store and we just started kind of bruising and going
through some of the clothing racks and saying, oh, dude,
he would wear this, and and we just kind of
figured that out together. But it was it was Jared's
(19:52):
wife who came up, i think, with the idea for
the perm and Jared had the idea for the moon boots.
It was just kind of a little piecemeal. There was
never like this is exactly. We just kind of formed
him as we went along.
Speaker 2 (20:07):
Did you ever think it was two over the top,
you know, starting with his name, like everything about it, like,
I don't I don't know if you were trying to
have people believe that there would be a Napoleon Dynamite.
Speaker 7 (20:19):
Well when so the script that everything we're talking about,
I don't know how much you're aware. This is a
script for the short film before we made Napoleon Dynamite,
and it wasn't called Napoleon Dynamoe. It was called Pey
Luca and the character's name was Seth. So it was
very real, very realistic. And when he simply what you know,
(20:45):
Jared had always wanted to make his first movie called
Napoleon Dynamite just he loved that name. He just thought,
what a great name to give to this very grounded,
real kind of character. And so I honestly felt like
I need some splash to this whole world because everything
(21:06):
else about it is like lockdown cameras. It's very stale
and there's not a lot going on, and it's subtle.
So I think this name just helps give it some boom.
Speaker 2 (21:21):
Really yeah, I agree. Yeah, and it makes it memorable too,
because like all you have to do is say Napoleon dynamite,
somebody's probably doing an imitation of your voice. How often
does that happen in real life? People come up to
you and imitate you.
Speaker 7 (21:40):
Yeah, I think it happens a lot. I mean, not
to me, per se, I suppose. I mean, yeah, they'll
yell stuff out to me. But yeah, exactly kind of
what you said. I mean, everybody has their version, and
certainly they loved to try to flex in front of me.
(22:02):
So yes, it still happens daily.
Speaker 2 (22:05):
Was there ever talk of a sequel? Uh?
Speaker 7 (22:08):
There was very briefly, and not seriously. I think you know,
the studio once because you know, this wasn't a studio movie.
We made it first, and when we made it, we
didn't think. We weren't business minded folk. We weren't thinking,
oh we're about to start something. We had no idea
anybody was even going to watch it. So yeah, after
(22:31):
it's you know, it's success, the studio came to us saying, like,
you know, what do you think about doing a studio?
But really, who's kind of just they came to me.
And said hey, because they didn't like gather us together.
I knew that separate conversations were happening, and I don't
know if they were getting, you know, backlash from Jared's side,
(22:53):
or that he just wasn't showing interest. But they said, hey,
would you do it a sequel without Jared? And I
was just like, no, I wouldn't do it. I wouldn't
own that wouldn't make sense.
Speaker 4 (23:05):
Yo.
Speaker 7 (23:05):
This is his baby, this is his creation. And so
that was the end of that.
Speaker 2 (23:11):
That was it. A virtual live stream twentieth anniversary Napoleon Dynamite,
you can watch along the screening event taking place that'll
be tonight at nine thirty Eastern. You can watch the
film along with John and some of the other characters
in the movie. Also, a portion of the proceeds benefit
Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation to fight childhood cancer. Get your
(23:33):
tickets before sales close at view slipstream dot com. Ticket
sales will close two hours before showtime. When did you
know that you had kind of hit like that, now,
all of a sudden your life had changed.
Speaker 7 (23:50):
I think when I just kind of it fell overnight,
within the space of like like four months. I knew.
I knew something different was definitely a foot when we
premiered at Sundance. Sundance Film Festival was its premiere and
it was the first time anybody had seen it and
(24:10):
we got in the very first screening for any of us,
the cast members as well, we had never seen it,
and we got to stand the ovation. People were go
nuts and so we were like, that was the beginning.
I knew there was something different, but still kind of
was the beginning. And you're like, well, okay, this is
an indie crowd. I don't know if this is going
(24:32):
to go mainstream, but it was, you know, once it
hit theaters that summer, and once they brought me onto
it was David Letterman's show, and I felt like, okay,
so we did something right. People.
Speaker 2 (24:55):
When's the last time you dressed is Napoleon?
Speaker 7 (25:00):
I actually just dressed as him for uh, we just
shot this oorda Tot commercial. I know, its like, what
took so long? I hadn't I never I never dressed
in the character. I don't have. I have a couple,
you know, items of original wardrobe that I still fit in,
(25:23):
but no, I never dressed up as you know, the character.
But this opportunity came along for the twentieth anniversary, and
we thought, and I think it was just Orda and
I were like, yeah, duh, why have we done this before?
So yeah, that was fun.
Speaker 2 (25:39):
What did you save from the movie?
Speaker 7 (25:43):
What did I What did I save from the movie?
Speaker 2 (25:47):
Outfits?
Speaker 7 (25:48):
Yeah? I got the you know, I don't know if
you recall, there's these a pair of pants that the
I hide the tots in the pocket. It's it's like
the pairs shoot pants style pants. I kept those. I
got a couple of the T shirts and some of
the posters that were hanging up in his room. I
(26:11):
had the vote for Pedro shirt and they gave me.
Everybody's like, did you get to keep the moon boots?
I was like, wow, I had to keep the moon boots.
I don't know if I got to keep the moon boots.
They were pretty nasty by the end. I kept them
kind of vacuum sealed in a bag so that they
wouldn't contaminate the air and poison my children.
Speaker 2 (26:34):
Were you you were hosting Saturday Night Live when Ashley
Simpson had the musical meltdown.
Speaker 7 (26:42):
No, I was. It was she that was her comeback,
so she had already had that faux pas and then
I was there for her redemption.
Speaker 2 (26:59):
How nervous were you with when you threw it to
or something you know, whoever threw it to Ashley Simpson
that everything was gonna go okay this time around.
Speaker 7 (27:07):
Oh, I mean, I think she was the one. I
was like, oh, I got nothing to lose if if
she if she messes up again, I mean, hopefully people
remember this episode for me and not her, but if
she messes up again, it will get some eyes. But
I'm sure she was more dry dry heaving back there
and just like, oh, what am I gonna do?
Speaker 2 (27:30):
Who's the character that you missed the most from Napoleon Dynamite?
Speaker 7 (27:35):
The character well, I mean, Kip is kind of like, oh,
I feel like most of the rest of the cast,
Kip is kind of our favorite. He's the unsung hero
who is just I don't know, he's just a character.
Speaker 2 (27:49):
I love Kip, and you know, just the whole thing
that he has this gangster attitude and he's got his
girlfriend and he I know, I guess a lot of
the movie was that people didn't really have any self
awareness of who are what they were.
Speaker 7 (28:05):
Yeah, I think that's The charm of the film is
you had everybody kind of was just going after their
own thing. They had no frame of reference. You know,
they're not plugged. Nobody was there telling them what they
were doing was wrong or stupid. I mean, that is
the story of a typical nerd, an outcast, is that
they are they feel like they're outcast from the other clicks.
(28:30):
But in this world in Preston, Idaho and small town, small, small,
tiny town, USA, even the even the jocks and the
cool kids could take some lessons in coolery and fashion
and fads and stuff. You know, it's like no one's
(28:50):
really telling them and they're just they're making their own cool.
So I think, you know, yeah, with Kip especially, I
mean Pedro, here's this brand new kids from Warez, Mexico,
and he runs for president and he's confident as all
get out, and Kip is like, yeah, I'm gonna start
dating this this lady I met online, and sure, let's
(29:13):
change my wardrobe. And everybody goes out with confidence. And
I think you've see Napoleon tracking that, and that's what's
fun because even Napoleon has his own brand of confidence,
but he still learns from others.
Speaker 2 (29:29):
When you go to a wedding reception, are you asked
to dance?
Speaker 7 (29:35):
Dude? I have a trigger when I hear that song
play at a club or at not that I go clubbing,
but any kind of event when they play that song,
I'm like, oh gosh. I start looking around, and sometimes
people are aware, and sometimes they're like, oh, you know,
did they play that? Yeah? It is. I avoid weddings
now because I feel so pressured into having to perform,
(30:02):
and I'm not my spry self that I used to be.
But I still try. I still work on it. I
still work on it.
Speaker 2 (30:08):
Yeah, But John, it could be worse. You could be
Kevin Bacon in Footloose. You know they're gonna play that
song every time he goes to a wedding reception exactly.
Speaker 7 (30:17):
So I think Kevin and I are in both in
the same boat. We just don't attend weddings anymore. We
just send me buck with the registry gift and that's it.
Speaker 2 (30:28):
Good luck with the screening. Great to talk to you again,
Thanks for joining us. Yeah you too, Thank you, John
Heater twentieth anniversary, Big night tonight as you can do
a watch along. Screening takes place at nine thirty Eastern
view slipstream dot com. Ticket sales will close two hours
before showtime. Yeah, we were in Benchwarmers together. We were
(30:51):
not in a scene together at least, I don't think,
And I don't even know what year Benchwarmers came out.
That was David Spade, Rob Schnei, John Heater. They were
the stars of that movie. And I'm I think I'm
just in one scene where we're playing poker and I
had a sweater wrapped around my neck that you do
(31:12):
when you belong to country clubs and things like that,
or you go to an Ivy League school, and I
just remember that was wardrobe back then. Benchwarmers, let me see.
You can't unsee it, and you can't unhear it. When
John popped up on the screen and all of a
(31:33):
sudden starts talking, you know, he's really really, really close
to being able to just morph right into that character.
It doesn't seem like it's too far from him. Every
time you see him and then you hear him, and
then it's like, oh wow, you're just waiting for him
to give you that Oh do whatever. I feel like gosh.
But when that came out and they had no idea
(31:56):
that it was going to hit, but the fact that
they go to him, Hey, you guys want to do sequel,
and you know, Hollywood loves sequels, and we've been doing
these twenty thirty years apart. You know, top Gun we
did that. You know, would they do a Napoleon Dynamite?
Who knows? I guess he could be a father and
have sons or daughters who were kind of similar to
(32:22):
his personality in high school. We'll take a break, last
call for phone calls, What we learned, what's in store tomorrow?
And we're back after this.
Speaker 1 (32:30):
Be sure to catch the live edition of The Dan
Patrick Show weekdays at nine am Eastern six am Pacific
on Fox Sports Radio and the iHeartRadio w APP.
Speaker 2 (32:40):
A last call for phone calls. What we learn, What's
in store tomorrow? This day in sports history. Final results
of the poll question. Shout out to Keeper's Heart Irish
American whiskey. And got a bottle delivered to me because
I had a housewarming gift from some people up here
and they brought over a bourbon and I said, can
(33:03):
you get me Keeper's Heart? So Keeper's Heart is on
the menu tonight. The outdoor fire pit there smoking some
cigars the best Irish American whiskey. It's been awarded over
one hundred and fifty awards for them. Bronco's name named
bo Nix, the starter. Tonight you got football with the Colts, Bengals, Bears,
(33:24):
and the Chiefs. Joey Vado, our good buddy, retired and
he will join us coming up tomorrow. I'm looking at
some numbers here that are kind of crazy. Let me
get I gotta get these. Here we go. He has
twenty one hundred hits, three hundred and fifty six home runs,
eight hundred and thirty seven extra base hits, eighty stolen bases,
(33:46):
two ninety four batting average on base percentage over four hundred.
Only six players in baseball history have reached those numbers.
Five of them Babe Ruth, Mickey Mantle, Jimmy Fox, Melot
Lou Garriger in the Hall of Fame. The only play
who's done that not in the Hall of Fame is
Barry Bonds. So Joey Vato with some pretty good company.
He will join us on the program tomorrow. Also, the
(34:09):
great comedian Frank Kelly Endo will join us. We figured
why not with Nicholas Cage playing John Madden in the
John Madden movie. Why not have Frank kellyendo who can
do a great John Madden impersonation, you know, Fritzy, we
should check and see if he can do a Nick
Cage impression of John Madden. That would be fat Yeah,
(34:32):
maybe we could get him to do that. All right,
so last go on for phone calls. Let me see
this is Hicks Slayer in Tampa. Hopefully I got.
Speaker 9 (34:41):
That right, Hey, Dan, first time, longtime five seven and
a robust to fifty. So I had a stat of
the day here for you. These two quarterbacks had pretty
similar stats. So I've got quarterback number one had three thousand,
(35:04):
six hundred and seventy eight yards, twenty four touchdowns, seven interceptions.
Can you name that quarterback.
Speaker 2 (35:11):
Russell Wilson.
Speaker 9 (35:13):
No, that was Lamar Jackson, MVP of the league, Lamar Jackson.
These are Russell Wilson's stats. Three thousand and seventy yards,
twenty eight touchdowns, eight interceptions.
Speaker 2 (35:25):
So okay, how about rushing stats in there?
Speaker 9 (35:30):
So Russ actually rushed for three hundred and something yards
and three touchdowns and Lamar had eight hundred and twenty
eight yards and five touchdowns, So pretty similar. Numbers. Russ
also missed two games due to the benching by Sean Paytons.
Speaker 2 (35:49):
Okay, and your point is your point is what?
Speaker 9 (35:52):
Yeah? My point is here, Dan, cheer me out. I
believe that bo Nicks is going to be a much
better system fit for what Sean Payton wants to do.
We want eight games last year, not five like you
had said earlier on your show. We won eight games show.
Of those games we lost because Russell Wilson took a
no no jeremy I said.
Speaker 2 (36:14):
I said the over under was five and a half
this year.
Speaker 9 (36:17):
Okay, okay, okay, I apologize, mister Patrick.
Speaker 2 (36:20):
And there's a big difference between three hundred yards rushing
and eight hundred yards rushing. You are correct, I would
rather have eight hundred. So what's the point you want
to make here? Because you're running out of time trying
to make a valid point.
Speaker 9 (36:34):
My point is, I'm a content creator on Facebook. I
have a little over fifteen hundred followers. I want to
do a pile of the face that with you, mister Patrick,
the Great Dan Patrick Hall of Famer. I challenge you
to a pile to the face that eight and a
half wins for the Broncos I take the over and
you take the under.
Speaker 2 (36:53):
I'm going to turn you down because it took you
a long time to get there and you had some
faulty stacks rules of rules. No, I'm just telling you
you can't go similar stats when Russ had three hundred
yards rushing and Lamar had eight hundred yards. But good
luck with bo Nicks and uh great I if they
(37:15):
get to eight wins, that means a couple more mondays
that Fritzie comes in, he'll be in a good mood.
And really that's what this show is all. Yes, Paul, I.
Speaker 12 (37:23):
Can't wait to sign up for that Facebook feed whatever
that is, No, that content that I can't wait.
Speaker 2 (37:29):
Kyle in Ohio, Hi Kyle, what's on your mind today?
Speaker 7 (37:33):
Hey? Sweet? Got to me six.
Speaker 16 (37:37):
Uh and I was gonna say tougher than a three
dollars stake, but then I heard that guy before me.
Thanks for taking my call. I know you can't speak
to this, but I personally think you might be a
closet Steeler fan and out of Kurt curiosity as a
lifelong Steeler fan myself, did you have anything to do
with Bill Kawer being in the water boy?
Speaker 6 (37:57):
Thanks again having good weekend.
Speaker 2 (38:01):
I did not. I did not have any suggestions in
the water Boy. Bill Kauer was in there a closeted
Steeler fan. No, I don't root for anybody, you know,
it's I do know that the steel Curtain is as
good a defense, if not the best defense I ever
saw in my life, and that encompasses over close to
(38:24):
sixty years of football. Now I have nothing but great things.
And of course Chuck Noll has to be really smart,
and he graduated from the University of Dayton. Kyle and Sacramento. Hey, Kyle,
what's on your mind today?
Speaker 3 (38:39):
Hey Dan, just want to say I'm a first time caller.
I just wanted to know your opinion on Justin Herbert's
planter fascia injury and the fact that he decided not
to do the surgery on that because from my experience
and playing sports that I've known a lot of people
that did not get surgery and the walking boot did
(39:02):
nothing for them. And I think the last thing the
Chargers need is to have to call Uncle Rico out
of retirement.
Speaker 2 (39:08):
You know, you know what, Kyle called me back in
three months, Then maybe we can actually have a formed
opinion on this. If it's going to work out for
the Chargers or not. I've never had that injury and
that surgery, but I know that it's hit or miss
with people. A couple of people who have had it.
But you know, this is an elite athlete. I'm gonna
(39:29):
guess they got the best doctors. Looking at his planter,
This day in sports history, PAULI just a couple for you, Dan,
I got Nolan Ryan, He's always there. Nineteen eighty nine,
the first major league pitcher to strike out five thousand bags. Dude, Albert.
He struck out Ricky Henderson for the five thousand. Yeah,
all right, struck struck out Ricky nineteen fifty one.
Speaker 12 (39:52):
Seventy five Oh okay, seventy five thousand people watch the
Harlem Globe Charters perform. Largest crowd ever to see a
basketball game in America.
Speaker 2 (39:59):
Wow, that's a On this date, this team scored the
most runs by a team in modern baseball history. This team,
the Rangers, beat the Orioles. The final score was thirty
to three, most runs by a team in modern baseball history. Well,
(40:21):
picks for them. There's some everybody. There are some eras
that took a beating. There all right, Todd. Would you
learn today?
Speaker 5 (40:30):
Al Whier says Greg Maddox didn't throw very hard, but
his ability to carve up a hitter's weakness was lovely.
Speaker 2 (40:36):
Seaton O'Connor, what'd you learn? I learned that John Heater
is having a tough time getting away from the pull
of time at this stage. I don't think he's trying
to get away anymore. Martin would Tot's commercial too, which
is great? Yeah, Tatter Tots, Yes, Martin, you almost do
(40:56):
a no hitter for seven innings. What we learned? You
