You are listening to The Dan Patrick Show on Fox

against Man United at Old Trafford. Stream it live this
Sunday at eleven Eastern exclusively on Peacock. Recap the final
weekend NFL preseason games. Steelers still haven't named their quarterback. Patriots,
(00:51):
I believe today or tomorrow going to name their starting quarterback.
I guess that depends on Jacoby Brissette's shoulder. Drake may
looked okay. You know the reports that I had gotten
a couple of weeks ago were he's not ready, this
is going to be a developmental quarterback. And then all
of a sudden he seemed to be developing a lot
(01:12):
quicker than people thought. And now maybe you're going to
compare him with Joe Milton and Jacoby Brissett, and all
of a sudden, he's going to stand out a little
bit more. And he looked okay, And that's usually what
rookie quarterbacks do. They look okay. We're spoiled. CJ. Stroud
spoiled us certain quarterbacks. You're like, you're not acting like
(01:34):
a rookie. Cam Newton didn't act like a rookie, and
Jaden Daniels doesn't look like a rookie. Caleb Williams doesn't
look like a rookie. Now they will this season. They're
going to be humbled. It happens to every quarterback. But
Drake May you have no weapons there. Good luck eight

NFL Cutdown Day will be on Tuesday. Aaron Judge keeps
rolling along. He's got fifty one home runs. He's on
Pace now for sixty three. I saw where Gen Carlos
Stanton his teammates said he thinks Judge one day could
(02:17):
hit seventy three home runs. Well, if you're going to
pitch to him, then he would. Bonds may have had
ninety home runs if you pitch to him. He was
walked over two hundred and thirty times that season. He
had one pitch that he would get. It might be
all four at bats, he might only get one pitch.
(02:38):
A guy walked with the bases loaded intentionally. This is
just that's just different. Now. The difference is Bonds was
cheating Aaron Judge, not under a cloud of any suspicion there.
And you know, it's kind of refreshing that you're you
can buy into a home run chase of sorts and
(02:58):
not feel like, uh oh no, I don't want to
find out, you know, sosaid McGuire. It was great. It
was awesome having been there, being involved with that, was
Sports Center, go to those games at Wrigling interviewing McGuire
was there was an innocence about that. It was like,
it's baseball. It's great. The Cubs weren't playing in meaningful games,
(03:22):
but Sammy was hitting sixty home runs. McGuire with what
he was doing, oh, Sportsman of the Year, Like we
all we bought into all of it, and then all
of a sudden we realized that was consumer fraud. Now
it was still enjoyable, but you know, cal Ripkin brought
us back with the breaking Luke Grigg's consecutive game strict
(03:45):
Like it was one of those nostalgic moments where you're going, Okay,
this is what it's all about. Judge feels real. It's
hard to be a Yankee. It feels like, and nationally
you're liked, respected, and I don't think people look at
Aaron Judge. You know, even Derek Jeter. People had a
(04:06):
problem with Derek Jeter. Oh he's not even the best
shortstop on his own team. You know, there was all
to this with Jeter. If well, if he played in
Kansas City, he wouldn't be Hall of Famer. And Aaron Judge,
it feels like, we're okay, We're like, all right, you
know he's with the Yankees, but still he's pretty fascinating.
But you know, he's a Paul Bunyan like guy. When
(04:27):
you see him at the plate. When we saw him
in person at the All Star Game, that's different, like
you're just seeing you're going, yeah, he's six ' seven
and you put spikes on him. You know, he's six ' eight,
six ' nine. He's like Zadano Charo when he put
on skates and he's like seven feet tall. Thank you,
(04:48):
thank you, But I don't when's the last time there
was a Yankee where you go? Yeah? I kind of
like him. He's a good guy. Ay Rod No, Andy
Pettitt No, Oh Clemens no, Bernie Williams. Maybe burn maybe burn,
it seems uh uh, Tino Martinez maybe I don't Knowino, yes, Marvin.
Speaker 3 (05:16):
How did people feel about Don Mattingley?
Speaker 4 (05:18):
Oh?
Speaker 2 (05:18):
Yeah, they like Donnie baseball, but they weren't winning. That
was before they were not likable. Yes, yes, then they
started winning and that was right. So he retired. But
people liked maddingly because he was just like, that's just
a throwback, that's a baseball player. And then all of
a sudden they started winning, and then you had the
Core four or whatever it was called. And then all
(05:40):
of a sudden, you know, they were bringing in every everybody,
anybody because they could afford it.
Speaker 5 (05:46):
Yes, it's funny though that if Don Mattingly was on
the good Yankee teams'd be like, that's stupid mustache. Why
don't you just shave that off? I hate that guy.
Dumb batting stance. Yeah, completely different than God, I can't
stand that guy man cut your hair.
Speaker 2 (06:02):
Yeah. So the best thing that happened is he had
to retire, Yeah because of his back. Yeah. Or Donnie,
they wouldn't have liked you. Yeah, it would have been
so unlikable. Yes.
Speaker 6 (06:13):
I've been thinking about this for a little bit, and
I hesitate to bring it up because I didn't want
to take over. But I'm looking at the most home
runs in the season all time in baseball history. It's
Barry Bonds and Mark McGuire and Sammy Sosa a couple
of times, and Mark McGuire again, and then it goes
to Aaron Judge with sixty two a couple of years ago.
Speaker 7 (06:29):
He may get sixty two this year. Then there's Roger Marris.
Speaker 6 (06:34):
Is there any chance twenty five years from now history
looks at Aaron Judge as a single season home run champion?
Speaker 2 (06:42):
No, because baseball hasn't taken those seasons out of the
record books, right.
Speaker 6 (06:47):
But almost like I don't know if it what's the
player comp But like, remember we had Senator A. McCain
on and he said Hank Aaron and Roger Marris for me,
Now he's old he was old school. But I wonder
if there's any chance that history is not kind to
Bonds McGuire and Sosa hasn't been and looks at for
an opportunity to put Judge a Yankee beating Roger Morris
(07:07):
as a single season king.
Speaker 2 (07:09):
Well, no, he should be ahead of Roger Morris. I
don't have any problem with that. He should be absolutely
same number of games and he hit one more home
run than him, not under a cloud of suspicion. Yeah,
I'm fine with that. It just Bonds his sort of yeah, yeah,
he's the old time home run king and he hit
seventy three. Yep, Sosa, those are incredible numbers. But they're
(07:30):
not real McGuire, they're not real, but they're in the
record books. You can't take an eraser to it. So
it's there. But it's almost like, yeah, butt, all right.
Poll question for hour two is going to be what
Seeton o' connor right.
Speaker 5 (07:44):
Now we've got up there, would you rather retire a
year early or a year late?
Speaker 2 (07:47):
Right now?
Speaker 5 (07:47):
Seventy five percent say a year early, which I'm not
sure that's the case. Or what it should be. Also, hypothetically,
which would you rather watch Week one, Raven's Chiefs or
Bears Commanders. Right now, seventy eight of the audience would
rather watch Raven's Chiefs.
Speaker 2 (08:04):
And the reason why we brought it up is we're
fascinated with rookie quarterbacks. They can dress up. It's like
putting ear rings on a pig. You know. If Drake
may plays, all right, I'm watching Jacoby Brissette plays. I'm
not uh, Jayden Daniels playing instead of Trace McSorley or
Sam hal I'm watching Caleb Williams. I'm watching bon Nicks.
(08:28):
You know, Denver is probably not going to be very good.
But we do want to see the newness. We want
to see. All right, let me see if this is real.
Speaker 8 (08:35):
Undefeated in the preseason. Just trounce the Cardinals thirty eight
twelve yesterday.
Speaker 2 (08:39):
Man, that's awesome. Yeah, but you didn't buy your Bonex
jersey yet.
Speaker 9 (08:44):
I did not.
Speaker 2 (08:46):
I'll know when you care when you buy a Bonex jersey,
because right now you don't care.
Speaker 9 (08:53):
Not all in until I went down the jersey.
Speaker 2 (08:55):
No, and then you got Week two when Russell Wilson
Junior the third comes back to then to be something. Yeah,
that is going to be something. We touched on this
at the end of last hour. Dion Sanders and Colorado
University trying to shut out a Denver Post columnist over negativity.
Now the columnist from the Denver Post is allowed to
(09:19):
go to the press conferences. I guess he's not allowed
to ask questions when he goes there is is that
what we understand is happening here.
Speaker 6 (09:30):
His credential has not been pulled. He's allowed to go
to all team activities in press comm He's not allowed
to ask questions. Other Denver Post reporters can ask questions.
Speaker 10 (09:38):
Now.
Speaker 2 (09:38):
His name is Sean Keeler. He's the columnist, and one
of his columns in recent weeks was deon Sanders is
a false prophet. See you buffs Colorado football playoffs? Question
mark all have what coach Prime is smoking. So Sanders
had a little give and take. I guess in the
(10:00):
press conference August ninth, where he sparred with the columnist
and then the columnists said let's meet in private to
discuss the matter. Sanders agreed and then said that he
wouldn't allow him to ask any questions at the news conference.
Keeler's column the next day began with the headline, Dion
Sanders four and eight coach gives a three to nine
(10:22):
news conference. Oh, coach Prime showed cu Buff's fans a
four letters side they hadn't seen before. Fear. Now, I
think what happens is the attention that Colorado has received
(10:44):
doesn't match the end result. Dion has brought a lot
of attention there, and they went from one win to
four wins. All right, that any program is going to
take a jump like that.
Speaker 9 (10:58):
Now.
Speaker 2 (10:59):
I don't know if this Denver Post columnist thinks Dian's
getting too much attention now what I've given him Sportsman
of the Year. No, that was embarrassing, but it's not
his call. He didn't say I need college game Day
out here. He didn't have Fox High noon kickoff like
they decided sixty minutes. They did two profiles on Dion
(11:22):
last year. It's not like he said, hey, you better
get out here. I demand you do a profile on me.
The attention that's what should be blamed, not the person
receiving the attention. Now, do I think, yeah, I mean,
we have silly stuff. Paul Feinbaum said, Well, making USC's
head coach Mike Greenberg, Hey, what about Dallas head coach there?
(11:45):
All they're doing is trying to, you know, take some
of this spotlight that Dion has and get some clicks.
That's all that is. It's silly. But Deon's not the
one who's saying this. Dion said no, I'm not interested
in going to the NFL. Doesn't stop people from speculating
or what about when he goes to his next job here?
So there's blame now Dion is It feels like he's
(12:08):
being a bully here. He wants to set the tone
of we're not going to take that negativity. But you know,
it goes along with this. If he's creating great expectations.
If he's saying, hey, I think we're one of the
top fifteen teams in America, Okay, then you can hold
him accountable with those words. But I don't know. It
(12:30):
feels like is Dion a false prophet if he's saying
they're going to be in the college football playoffs? I mean,
do we take every coach at his word for what
they say. I'm sure there are a lot of coaches go, hey,
I don't see why we can't make you know we
can win our conference. I don't see why we can.
It's just it's Dion Sanders. And look, the columnists is
(12:52):
trying to make a name for himself. I get it now.
The university said the columnist is permitted to attend football
related activities as a credentialed member. Other reporters from the
Denver Post are welcome to ask questions. Now, does he
raise his hand the entire press conference and then he
(13:12):
doesn't call on him?
Speaker 8 (13:13):
Yes, Tod can Sean give like a little note to
one of his colleagues, could ask this for me?
Speaker 2 (13:18):
I would absolutely Now. Dion did this before. When he
was at Jackson State. There was a reporter from the
Clarion Ledger in Mississippi, and I guess he had written
a story about a domestic violence charge against one of
Dion's recruit recruits. And then he said basically that he
(13:45):
was going to be blackballed. He wasn't going to let
him answer ask questions as well. Dion they go four
to eight per season, declined to specify his goals for
twenty twenty four as the Buffalo's return to the Big twelve.
I want to win, yeah, so I'm trying to understand
both sides of this columnists. You want people to read
(14:08):
your column you want clicks, you want eyeballs. Dion wants
that on his program. Both are receiving it. Dion is
it feels like is empowering this columnist by all of
a sudden, Hey what he's saying. It hurts you know,
there have been members like media writers, they know sometimes
that they can go after you and say something. You know,
(14:31):
people in our business. It's happened to me where somebody
can come after you and say something. Not much you
can do, but if you do acknowledge it, they love it. Like, oh, okay, yes, Marvin.
Speaker 3 (14:44):
Is Colorado falling to the Dallas Cowboys category of man.
They are just getting so much attention for such little results.
Speaker 2 (14:53):
Okay, but this isn't Dion's fault. Oh oh, I'm with you. Yeah,
and the Cowboys, although I think Jerry Jones just wants attention,
you know, the whole CD Lamb, the dak Prescott, Mike McCarthy,
like they're constantly talked about more than any other, the Cowboys,
and then everybody else. I could take everybody else's coverage
(15:16):
and it wouldn't even come close to the Dallas Cowboys.
It's all this is is a ratings game. If you're
going to go after somebody, you're going to go after
the person who's wearing the crown. Now the Cowboys don't
wear the crown, but they have worn the crown. But
they are the most popular franchise in sports. Yeah, PAULI
go back to Dion Sanders. He actually has there's a
(15:38):
clause in his contract. This is maybe other coaches have this.
He has a clause that he has duties to talk
to the media that are professional and consistent interaction, mutually
agreed upon members of the media and public print, et cetera,
et cetera. So he has clauses in his contract that
he does not have to talk to all the media
if he doesn't choose to, which is why Colorado's involved in.
(16:00):
Dion says, this is a way of life for me.
You guys act like this is the first time I've
been shot at, I've been lied on, cheated, talked about, mistreated.
That's a gospel song, ain't it okay? Or a country song? Yeah,
So this is going to continue the over unders. Five
(16:21):
and a half wins for them this year. I don't
know if he's projecting this team to win the Big twelve. Yeah. See.
Speaker 5 (16:28):
There was just a story like a week or two
ago where a Titans player there was a radio show
doing like a live broadcast from Titans Camp yep, and
one of the players saw the host doing the show,
Jeffrey Simmons, and was like, yeah, dude, I remember you
talking all that trash about me and sort of like
(16:49):
was you know, And the.
Speaker 2 (16:50):
Host was like, yeah, but you want to sit down.
We could talk about this, you know you want us
to tell We could talk about this. We could talk
about this.
Speaker 5 (16:56):
And it feels like there is a real business to
be made to being the uh.
Speaker 2 (17:03):
You know, you want to sit down.
Speaker 5 (17:04):
We could talk about this guy, you know where you
throw out all of these things and then when somebody
calls you on it, you're like, well, whoa, whoa, whoa,
whoa what me me? I'm just doing my job. Okay,
I'm just doing my job.
Speaker 2 (17:15):
It's like, well, sometimes we're in an ivory tower, ok
you know, we're above everybody, and then we have something
to say and then all of a sudden, you actually hear.
I had a run in with Steve Spurrier many many
many years ago. When I was at Sports Center, and
you know, we settled it and actually became friends. But
(17:37):
I said something and then he sent me a letter
and he wanted to talk, and then we did and
then we kind of saw what each was saying and
we move forward with it. But we're not used to
sometimes somebody getting back at us. Even I mean, I
could say something now and it might get to Paul
(17:57):
Finebaum or Mike Greenberg and then I'd be like, yeah, fine,
come on my show, we can talk about it. But
a lot of times when somebody goes, hey, wait, wait,
I just wrote down what I thought. You know, you're
not used to that confrontation, you know, one on one,
and you know, all of a sudden that changes. As
(18:18):
you know, Peter Gammons once told me, you want respect,
show up in the locker room after you say something
or write something. Just show up because then if somebody
has something to say, you're going to get their attention.
So I'm using that philosophy. When I showed up in
the Rangers locker room confronting Alex Rodriguez and he almost
(18:39):
beat me up. He almost beat me up, but I
stood by what I said about him, and I still
stand by what I said about him. Yeah, yeah, take that,
hey Ron, Yeah all right, let.
Speaker 7 (19:00):
Me take a break here checking he's not in the building.
Speaker 2 (19:03):
Yeah guy, Oh my god. I had all of those
steroid guys who were on the couch that day. They
were watching when uh a Rod was chewing me out.
They were like yeah, and I thought, man it, I
hope it doesn't hurt that bad when he knocks me out.
But I'm gonna stand toe to toe with him. All right,
(19:25):
how about we take a break. We will give you
our best and worst of the weekend. I got phone
calls to get to and would you pay twenty four
million dollars for a piece of clothing? That story coming
up a little bit later on as well. Back after this.

Speaker 11 (19:54):
As everybody knows, we're the hosts of the award winning
Polly and Tony foolsco show. Yeah, but instead of us
telling you how great we are, here is how Dan
Packrick described us when he came on our.
Speaker 2 (20:03):
Show, quick, knowledgeable and funny, opinionated. What what are you doing
interrupting our promo?
Speaker 1 (20:09):
Yeah, you wasn't talking about you.
Speaker 10 (20:11):
You took those clips totally of context.
Speaker 11 (20:14):
Oh yeah, well after this promo, I'm gonna take you
out and beat you.
Speaker 2 (20:18):
Let me put this into context.
Speaker 1 (20:20):
Shut up.
Speaker 11 (20:21):
Yeah, anyway, just listen to the Paul and Tony Busco
Show on iHeartRadio, Apple Podcasts or wherever you get your podcasts.
Speaker 2 (20:27):
Yeing a lot of great reaction to Frank Kelliendo on Friday.
He was that's his best appearance, and that's saying a lot.
But you can find any interviews you miss, go to
Danpatrick dot com. I didn't do anything other than kind
of stay out of the way and let Frank be Frank.
But he was hysterical. I had the over under from
(20:49):
DraftKings Aaron Judge home runs this year his total todd
Do you want to play the Aaron Judge over undertotal
home run?
Speaker 9 (21:00):
I do, and I'm gonna say sixty two and a half.
Speaker 2 (21:02):
Bloo bloo blue. You did it? I telled it. Yeah, Okay,
nothing to see here, let's move on. We were talking
about Colorado opening up their season against North Dakota State.
You guys want to venture what the bedding line is
on Colorado against perennial power North Dakota State. I believe
(21:24):
this is in Colorado. I believe that is true. Okay,
Todd Over, I should say what's the point spread.
Speaker 9 (21:33):
I'm gonna say eight and a half, eight and a half. Yeah,
maybe high, but I'm gonna go with that eight.
Speaker 2 (21:37):
And a half. Who oh Colorado. Oh, okay, we'll win
by eight and a half. All right, seat O'Connor.
Speaker 5 (21:43):
I'm gonna say six and a half Colorado, all.
Speaker 6 (21:45):
Right, Marvin three and a half Colorado, PAULI, North Dakota
State given a point and a half.
Speaker 2 (21:51):
Okay, it's Colorado giving nine and a half. North Dakota
State scoop that one up. Yeah. Oh you're gonna take
North Kota State outright?
Speaker 6 (22:02):
His Oh yeah, I think so. Historically, North Tokota State
is always good.
Speaker 9 (22:08):
Yeah.
Speaker 7 (22:09):
They love taking out people early.
Speaker 2 (22:11):
Stephen and Dayton, Hey, Steven, best and worst of the weekend.
Speaker 12 (22:16):
Hey Dan, first time, long time five eleven one ninety seven. Hey,
you got a best and bestest for you? So my
best is actually a week long. My wife and I
just got back from a week long trip to Ireland,
spent a few days up in Belfast, Northern Ireland, and
then finished up the week down in Dublin, which is
(22:37):
where my bestest comes in. I'm a proud rambling wreck
from Georgia Tech. So it was really great to go
to that game and see the Jackets take down Florida State.
I thought we really dominated the lines of scrimmage. So
that was a fun game to watch and a great
way to kick off the season.
Speaker 2 (22:51):
Yeah, congratulations. By the way, factor into Florida State lost
ten players on last year's roster to the NFL. They
lost a couple of defense sublieman. Georgia Tech was able
to run the football, so in fairness to Florida State,
this isn't the same team that we saw last year. Djungalila,
thank you Stephen for calling. Didn't distinguish himself coming in
(23:14):
from Oregon State. Paul in Austin, Hi, Paul, WIT's on
your mind?
Speaker 13 (23:21):
Well up then first time long time kicks to a
ripped one seventy five rap.
Speaker 12 (23:28):
That's of the weekend.
Speaker 13 (23:29):
It's got to be by Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets with
the Big dub Super happy with that result to echo
last caller. Really well played game, I thought. From both teams,
It's been a long time since Georgia Tech's been ranking
the top twenty five. Brent Key's been crushing it, loving
to Belichick cut off Hoody, look he's got going, and
Haines king at dude the baller. I don't really have
(23:50):
a worse. Second thing I wanted to say, is that
part of the disrespect around ACC football.
Speaker 2 (23:55):
You know, the league's had.
Speaker 13 (23:56):
As many first round draft picks as the Big Ten
the last two decades, and in my opinion, has always
been a better conference than the Big twelve and former
Fact twelve. I'll bet a pecan pie in the face
with any of you that the ACC gets three teams
in the twelve team playoffs this season. PAULI, I know
you pick the Jackets to win Saturday, but Suck in
front row peets out all right.
Speaker 2 (24:20):
I guess he's saying Clemson, Miami NC State or Clemson
Miami Florida State are going to be in the top twelve. Yes, Marvin,
I will take that bet, all right, Suck you sound
very nice, so I could front row all right, you
got a bet, pecan pie.
Speaker 5 (24:37):
I think he made a lot of good points.
Speaker 2 (24:39):
Phil in Rochester, I feel once on your mind.
Speaker 14 (24:44):
Hey, so, because baseball starts in tops games all season long,
really wacky stuff happens, like with Andy Jansen there so
trivia question. One player in history has actually played a
game before they made their major league debut.
Speaker 2 (25:02):
Wait a minute, explain that.
Speaker 14 (25:05):
So team starts a game in May, stops because of
income and weather, they pick that game back up in August.
In between, the player makes his major league debut and
plays in their restarted game, but because of scoring rules,
they actually played in that game before they made their
(25:25):
major league debut.
Speaker 2 (25:26):
Give me the year.
Speaker 14 (25:30):
I believe it's eighty five or eighty six?
Speaker 2 (25:35):
Bhi Barry Bonds indeed? Wow? All right, well, thank you Phil,
Dallas and Dayton not to be confused with Dayton in Dallas,
Hi Dallas.
Speaker 4 (25:49):
Hey DP, what's going on?
Speaker 15 (25:50):
First time a long time?
Speaker 14 (25:52):
Six foot two sixty?
Speaker 15 (25:56):
All right, I got a little bit of a hot
take here for you.
Speaker 2 (26:00):
Okay.
Speaker 15 (26:00):
Joe Milton will be the Kirk cousins to Drake May's
RG three, meaning here in a few years we'll look
back and be thankful that the Patriots grabbed Joe Milton
and save them over what Drake may is gonna call them?
Speaker 2 (26:14):
All right, that's a hot take. Joe Milton's got a
ton of talent, and everybody talks about how strong his
arm is. He didn't look good last night. Yeh see,
his arm might be too strong because.
Speaker 5 (26:29):
He was throwing the ball so hard and so fast
at dudes last night and it's just like bouncing off
their hands and you're like, I don't know, man, is
that just that hard football to catch or he had
a tough night?
Speaker 2 (26:40):
Yeah, you're doing to hear he's got a catchable ball.
There are a lot of quarterbacks where you go, man,
he's got a catchable ball. If you've ever been around
somebody who has like a college arm or an NFL
arm and they throw you the football. When Drew Bledsoe
came in the Old Man Cave and was throwing the football,
you're like, oh boy, I couldn't imagine trying to catch
(27:03):
those even with gloves on. I gets just different, all right.
Our Best and Worst of the Weekend. We'll get to
more phone calls as well. Todd Best and Worst to
the Weekend.
Speaker 8 (27:13):
I know we've mentioned it several times, but it was
my best Georgia Tech shocking tenth rank Florida State in
Dublin on a game winning field goal as time expired.
The Yellow Jackets killed the last six and a half
minutes of the clock, setting up Aiden Burr for the
game winning kick. I think they had set on the
broadcast they had never attempted a game tying or winning
kick in in his life. They ran for one hundred
and ninety yards.
Speaker 2 (27:30):
We don't need no, we don't need a whole recap here.
Speaker 8 (27:32):
Okay, worse than his preseason outing against the Chargers Cowboys.
Quarteback Trey Lance completed thirty three or forty nine three
hundred and twenty three yards, also rushed for ninety yards
and two TV's, but he threw for five interceptions.
Speaker 2 (27:45):
Jerry Jones said he'd still make that trade where he'd
give up a fourth round pick for Trey Lance. There
are a lot of numbers there for Trey Lance. That
was like North Dakota State except for the five interceptions.
Speaker 6 (27:58):
Yeah, Paul, you got to spin that if you're covering
Trey Lance like man, he was completing balls to everybody
the other night.
Speaker 2 (28:04):
Oh yeah really yeah, see O'Connor. Best and worst best.
Speaker 5 (28:07):
Of the weekend, Little Florida winning the Little League World
Series on a walk off bunt. Heck yeah, kid, let's
go fundamentals. I love it. Kids. You can learn from that,
learn how to bunt.
Speaker 15 (28:19):
Hey.
Speaker 5 (28:19):
You know what earlier in this year's a kid stole
home too. Heck yeah, dude, I love that kind of guts.
Speaker 2 (28:24):
We'll say. Yeah.
Speaker 5 (28:25):
My worst of the weekend Kelsey Plumb setting an illegal screen,
bring up Asia Wilson to hit the game winner aces
over the sky seventy seven, seventy five. I don't know,
maybe there's different rules in the WNBA, but you're not
allowed to do that.
Speaker 2 (28:37):
I didn't know we were going to get a deep
dive on a Kelsey Plumb back door, clearly.
Speaker 5 (28:43):
An illegal screen that is just being ignored apparently.
Speaker 2 (28:47):
And I'm accused of never mentioning. You know that when
Angel Reese has a great game of standalone game she
had twenty two rebounds, I don't know how much more
praise I can give her than saying she finds me
of Moses Malone on the offensive glass, no better offensive
rebounder Moses Malone. You know, always effort, always, always, always,
(29:09):
and she has that, So there you go. I complimented
Angel Rees. People are like, this is so serious, you
gotta bring up Angel Rees.
Speaker 4 (29:20):
Uh.
Speaker 2 (29:21):
Sure, she had twenty two rebounds. Congratulations Marvin.
Speaker 3 (29:28):
Best of the weekend, Angel I'm planning no best of
the weekend SMU tight end RJ Maryland. That's Russell Maryland's kid,
by the way, eight receptions of hundred six two yards,
including the game winning touchdown for SMU as they be
a think Nevada Yep, yep. And then other best of
(29:48):
the weekend Cooper Flag. He signed a multi year shoe
deal with anybody want to guess the brand.
Speaker 2 (29:55):
New Balance boo, Paulie Best and Worst of the.
Speaker 6 (30:03):
Week That New Balance has changed things in the past decade,
haven't they. I mean they were the official shoe of
cutting your lawn twenty years ago.
Speaker 2 (30:11):
I don't know if Kawhi Leonard moved any product, and
I don't know if he was moving merchandise.
Speaker 5 (30:18):
He moved them in a new direction.
Speaker 2 (30:19):
I yes, sure, I guess they got a lot of
big names there.
Speaker 10 (30:22):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (30:23):
Yeah, Paulie Best and Worst of the weekend.
Speaker 6 (30:25):
I'll take SMU off the board since Marvin took care
of it. I'll go Montana State Football thirty five thirty one,
great comeback twenty one points in the fourth quarter to
beat New Mexico and pick up three hundred and sixty
thousand dollars to do so. And worst of the weekend
the absolute disrespect of Delaware State Hornet football. They were
getting I think forty and a half at kick eleven
to fifty nine pm Eastern. It was so hard to find.
(30:48):
You had to, like, you know, grab a Zenith television
or on your phone. Delaware State lost to Hawaii thirty
five to fourteen. Oh huge cover.
Speaker 7 (30:56):
They missed their flight, but they didn't miss the game.
Speaker 2 (30:58):
Yeah, that was It was weird. I had an interest
in that just because we were covering the story. We
couldn't I couldn't find the game, but you know, it's
one of those where you just google, like every ten
minutes you just want to see what score is. And
then it was just kind of staying close and I
got all right, all right, Delaware State, gonna keep it
real here, uh arnal Arnaldo in Charlotte. Hopefully I got
(31:23):
that right, Arnaldo.
Speaker 4 (31:27):
Sure it did. Five ten. I actually got a best
of the best man. So that's of the weekend. Aaron
Judge had in two home runs. Yesterday, Yankee Goffense finally
picking it up, Yankee finally looking good. They have it,
they have it in a few months, so tonight that
they're finally looking good. And my other best of the
week is Dan, I'm going to go see your favorite
(31:48):
fan base today. I'm going to the Damp Pat, I
mean to the Green Days concert today. I know you
get into a lot of trouble talking to the Green
Day fans, so I just wanted you to. I just
wanted to shout you out before I head out there.
Speaker 2 (32:00):
And they're gonna be in Charlotte.
Speaker 4 (32:02):
Yeah, they're gonna be in Charlotte tonight.
Speaker 12 (32:04):
All right.
Speaker 2 (32:04):
Well tell Billy Joe. I said, hello, you're the biggest fan.
I know, thank you, Yes I am. I think I
was surprised some people when I went to the Rock
and Roll Hall of Fame just to go to the
Green Day exhibit that was there and then get a
picture after being told to stay in my lane. You know,
I had to do some homework on Green Day and
(32:26):
now I'm I'm well versed in Green Day. Stay in
your lane. Yeah, I know. That was great. Oh man.
People got fired up over that.
Speaker 5 (32:36):
It is Funny how sometimes people call in and they
say something they don't realize what a gift they've just
given us. Yes, that's all man, We're gonna run with
this for ten plus years.
Speaker 2 (32:43):
Easy. Yeah. And then you know, we had somebody who
came up with some artwork that had to do with
Green Day. Stay in your lane. Let's see New Balance
six point five billion dollars in annual sales last year,
So since twenty twenty, they've had a ninety six percent
(33:05):
growth in sales.
Speaker 6 (33:09):
Okay, they got Cocoa GoF, they have Kawhi Leonard, they
have sho Hey o Tani.
Speaker 7 (33:13):
Yeah, now they have Cooper Flag.
Speaker 2 (33:16):
Yeah. I just haven't seen a new Balance. Well I have.
I've seen some shoes that look pretty good, but they
felt like Kawhi Leonard and he was wearing just white
tennis shoes. I didn't think there was anything like that
stood out where you go, oh wow, all right, I
get it. But I've had New Balance before. Those are
(33:40):
running shoes, at least that's what I remember. Not anymore.
Speaker 3 (33:44):
No basketball, Jamal Murray's got him on now he just
now the savior. Cooper Flag's got him.
Speaker 2 (33:49):
Yeah, I haven't seen I don't even know what they
look like.
Speaker 3 (33:53):
Look, we're gonna be watching college basketball in November. One
guy Cooper flag, Cooper flag. All right, we'll take a break.
More phone calls coming up.
Speaker 1 (34:01):
Be sure to catch the live edition of The Dan
Patrick Show weekdays at nine am Eastern six am Pacific
on Fox Sports Radio and the iHeartRadio WAP.
Speaker 2 (34:12):
More phone calls coming up. Also next hour. Somebody paid
twenty four million dollars for a Babe Ruth jersey and
it's being called the Mona Lisa of sports Memorabilia. We
have more on this story coming up. Ted Lasso fans,
it looks like, looks like appears that season four is
(34:37):
going to happen.
Speaker 13 (34:38):
Now.
Speaker 2 (34:38):
They do have a couple of the actors who were
in the previous three seasons. Hannah Wattingham. She plays the
AFC Richmond owner Rebecca Walton. Brett Goldstein, he plays Roy
Kent and Jeremy Swift. He plays the director of football
Operations Leslie Higgins. But let's see what else I mean,
(35:04):
It would help if you had Ted Lasso himself, Jason Sudeikaz.
They're the executive producers, He and Brandon Hunt, Coach Beard
and Heeley Jones, Juno Temple, let me see anything else?
Speaker 5 (35:23):
Sounds like there's still a little waste to go. Yes, yes,
is it heads toward green light?
Speaker 2 (35:28):
Yeah, it's not green lightish, it's it may be a caution.
Maybe maybe it's a yellow right now. But it feels
like they're gonna squeeze out maybe another season here. Do
you ever have that feeling when you watch a show
and you go, Okay, I'm good, Like Ted Lasso, I
(35:50):
feel like I'm good with three seasons. It's when you
go that extra season and some shows do this where
you go, man that you you want them to go.
It's like the guy who stays one more season. Yeah,
you're gonna be like, no, Joey Vado, Now just retire
with the Reds. No, I'm gonna try to. I'm gonna
(36:11):
play for the Blue Jays minor league team. Just end
with the Reds. Yes, Ton, How.
Speaker 9 (36:16):
Much is I know it's ultimate everything's about money. How
much is greed?
Speaker 8 (36:18):
How much is the passion for wanting to tell more
of the story and give the fans at least one
more year this show they like so much? As opposed
to you know, when you do sequels for movies and
the third and fourth and fifth version of something.
Speaker 2 (36:29):
What do you think it is?
Speaker 9 (36:31):
I think it's pretty much greed. But I'd like to
think that's.
Speaker 2 (36:33):
A part of it, what I thought you were saying.
Speaker 8 (36:35):
I'd like to think there's a part of it where
they're like, you know what, I don't think the story
is fully told you.
Speaker 9 (36:39):
Let's let's get.
Speaker 2 (36:39):
Together and see what you were saying without saying, sounded
like you were calling them.
Speaker 9 (36:44):
I just hate to think that it's just a paycheck
for everybody and.
Speaker 2 (36:46):
We go figure greed in Hollywood. Wow, that would be shocking. Yes, Paul,
I found a couple old interviews just from season three,
I should say, with Jason Sudeikas and Brendan Hunt, who
created and wrote the show, and they said they always
had a three season plan as the plan, but I
want it's one of those situations where maybe they didn't
realize how big and what a goliath the show would be,
(37:08):
and in the middle of season three, you know, I'm
sure they couldn't just flip a switch and go to
season four. But it did feel like it ended a
touch early, like it left you wanting more, which, like
you said, is a good thing. Yeah, I don't know.
Speaker 6 (37:20):
I could see pulling off a real nice fourth season.
Everyone's back for different reasons.
Speaker 2 (37:27):
Feels like to be satisfied some storylines, the story arc. Yes, right.
Speaker 5 (37:31):
The question is like, with the way that they left it,
can you do a fourth season without adding a fifth
and sixth?
Speaker 4 (37:37):
You know?
Speaker 2 (37:39):
Now, I never saw the Sopranos, but they couldn't come
back after what happened. And that one was that five seasons,
six seasons. The Wire I thought ended when it needed
to end. That was five seasons. Anything else kind of
come to mind where you go, I'm glad they went
(37:59):
another year, or I'm glad they didn't go another year. Yeah, Pong, that.
Speaker 6 (38:03):
Political show House of Cards, Robin Wright, Kevin Spacey. The
first two seasons I thought were fantastic.
Speaker 2 (38:11):
Yeah, they stumbled towards the finish sho Yeah.
Speaker 6 (38:13):
And even the show Billions, as great as it was
and how much I liked it, it really changed towards
the end and didn't feel similar.
Speaker 5 (38:21):
Can you think, Yes, I really liked that show Shameless,
but that went on way too long. Oh, that went
on a very long time. And really, as soon as
I want to say, Emily Rossom was like one of
the main characters.
Speaker 2 (38:35):
She left.
Speaker 5 (38:35):
The show kind of fell apart a little bit. That
went on way too many seasons. That was a great show, though,
so William H.
Speaker 2 (38:43):
Macy. And then you have the guy from the Bear
who was in there. Yeah yeah, Jeremy Allen White, Yeah yeah, yeah.
I didn't watch Shameless, but I've seen clips and you know,
of course, me and way mate Macy, good buddies.
Speaker 5 (39:01):
You know what a succession could have gone on for
another thirty seasons.
Speaker 2 (39:05):
I would have watched it.
Speaker 5 (39:06):
That show was phenomenal.
Speaker 2 (39:07):
I would love to have seen with Tom running the
show and everything, the collateral damage of that. It feels
like that they could do that, but you know, you
also have to get all of these actors to agree
to it, and then that means putting projects on hold,
you know. And this is what I do for Sandler
(39:28):
every year or so. I put projects on hold so
I can shoot a movie for him with him. Ed
in Chicago, Hi, Ed, what's on your mind?
Speaker 10 (39:38):
This is the reason I love your show so much?
Is I'm sitting here on hold with the topic I
called in for, which I'll get to. But let me
give you two Apple plus shows. You guys, have to
watch Wild Horses with Gary Oldman. Ridiculous. I'm so mad
that I was not on some day one. We just
finished season one. Season four just came out not going
to give anything away, awesome shrinking with Jason's Sego and
(40:00):
Harrison Ford hilarious. Okay, their season two is coming out
in October. No, I did not work for Apple. So
the reason I'm calling Dan, I don't mean to be
the guy that corrects anything. You said something about the
Sosia MacGuire home run chase that peaqued my willingness to call,
and it was that the Cubs weren't playing for anything
o contreyer Monfrere. They were actually a wild card team.
(40:23):
They had a play in game against the Giants to
get swept ultimately by the Braves. But so so, it
was definitely not seeing like Gimme's during that stretch because
the Cubs were in it for a playoff ration.
Speaker 2 (40:33):
Okay, maybe I was looking at the totality of that era.
They were semi relevant. I can't tell you. There were
times that I would be in Chicago if I didn't
go to the game, or people would ask the following
did Sammy Homer did the Cubs win, and it was
in that order for a few years.
Speaker 7 (40:55):
Yeah, Paul, I don't want to be the guy who
corrects people either.
Speaker 6 (40:57):
But Ed who just called in, said, tune into Gary
Oldman Show Wild Horses. It's called slow horses, Okay, make
it easier to find.
Speaker 2 (41:05):
If they had the time, maybe it was the wild
card with the Cubs and then he got that kind
of involved in. And now all right, we've done two
hours today and uh, I think everybody's in a good mood.
Come on now. No, no, we don't do get up yet.
Speaker 14 (41:21):
Up.
Speaker 2 (41:21):
No, no we don't. No, no, no, Greenie does get up.
We do. Sit down, Hey, come on, sit down. The
Classic DP Show t shirt has been updated and it's back.
Go to Danpatrick dot com. No spoilers here. I want
you to see it first hand. Final hour coming up.
We'll talk to some sports memorabilia
