CeeDee Lamb signs his massive contract, but what does it mean for the Cowboys? Dan also doesn't think this means much for Dak Prescott's contract for one very important reason. And, Aaron Judge DIDN'T hit a home run last night, which is starting to feel more like news - and in the process bringing excitement to baseball.

How did we get here and where are we going?
Ceedee Lamb got paid. We knew he was going to
get paid. We knew that he would get paid before
the season started. I thought it was non story because
all of these wide receivers are getting paid. The question
is he's not going to get Justin Jefferson money is
he going to get maybe just a little bit less.

(01:09):
So we're here in the low thirties to maybe mid thirties,
and at what point do we get to forty million
dollars for a wide receiver. I remember talking about TJ.
Watt and how important it was that he was going
to be the first defensive player to get thirty million
dollars in a season. Now, Micah Parsons, who knows what

(01:30):
he's going to get. And if you're looking at the
most important positions, obviously it's quarterback. And then we could
have a debate on edge rusher or wide receiver. Wide
receivers are getting paid. You still have Jamar Chase who's
out there, and I don't know if Jamar Chase is
going I should be paid more than Justin Jefferson. Now,
he's probably going to ask for more than that. I'm

(01:52):
sure CD Lamb asked for more than that. But you
eventually get around too. This is where you're slotted. And
I remember when AJ Brown signed his deal and I thought,
if I'm Jerry Jones, I say to Cede Lamb, I'm
going to give you a little bit more than AJ Brown. Now,
I don't know if CD Lamb would have said okay
or his agent would have said it felt like the

(02:14):
longer this went, the more receivers who were signed, the
more expensive it was going to be for CD Lamb.
Now you're going to get this conversation today. What does
CD Lamb's signing mean for Dak Prescott. I don't think
they're related other than they play for the same team.
I don't think Dak Prescott signs a deal. If I'm

(02:35):
Dak Prescott, I wouldn't sign a deal because if the
Cowboys don't like at this point the Cowboys know Dak
is their future or he's not. It's not one of
those no, I don't know, Let's see him play another season.
If I'm Dak Prescott, you probably say I've done everything
I can do, Like I'm playing at a pretty high level.

(02:55):
I was an MVP. Now you can counter that by saying,
but what do you do in the post? And that's fair.
But if he doesn't re sign with the Cowboys or
he goes out to the open market, he's going to
get paid because look at the quarterbacks who are going
to be available. Look at the quarterbacks in this year's draft,
there's nobody where you go got to get him. Now,

(03:16):
we had a few of them in this draft, but
next year and at least right now, I don't know
if somebody goes Quinn yours now you want them on
that rookie deal. But as far as quarterbacks are, I mean,
Kirk Cousins got paid by at Lamba and then they
drafted a quarterback. He will find a taker. You know,
maybe it's the Raiders a team like that, but he's

(03:39):
going to get paid, whether it's with the Cowboys or not.
But the longer they wait, now there's no other quarterbacks
who are going to be signed. You know, before the
start of the season, everybody is all signed up. So
he knows sort of where he's going to get paid.
He knows that sweet spot. And if the Cowboys don't
pay him, somebody else will. But if I'm Dak Prescott,
I have to bet on myself again. And it certainly

(04:01):
helps that you have Ceedee Lamb there. That'll make it
a whole lot easier if Ceedee Lamb wasn't there. And
if I'm Dak Prescott, I'm like, it'd be nice if
we had him. You knew eventually he was going to
get in camp. Now, the question is he going to be.

Speaker 3 (04:15):
Ready to go?

Speaker 2 (04:16):
This is where you get those soft tissue injuries where
they're just nagging, you know, is he going to be
able to play? Is he going to be limited first
couple of games there? But ceedee, Lamb got paid. I'm
not surprised. He's a wonderful player and you could make
a case he's the best receiver in football. And with
Dak Prescott as his quarterback as opposed to Sam Darnold,

(04:38):
with Justin Justin Jefferson, that might be the best combo
platter that we have in the NFL.

Speaker 3 (04:43):
All right, set, what's the pole question that we have today?

Speaker 4 (04:47):
Let's see we got one here from Paulie. If you
were betting Chiefs of the field.

Speaker 2 (04:55):
We don't do the Tiger Woods thing in football very often,
but with the Chiefs, I would say, I'll take the Chiefs.

Speaker 3 (05:05):
I think I would take the Chiefs. Like I've learned.

Speaker 2 (05:08):
It's one of those where you want to you want
to deny something that's so obvious.

Speaker 3 (05:12):
You're like, I can't like even doing the show.

Speaker 2 (05:14):
You're like, if I do the Chiefs, people and go,
oh wow, I really went out on a limb, but
deep down you go, they should win. Denver might be
a little bit better, Chargers might be a little bit better.
Raiders are probably going to be the same. So you
might have twelve thirteen wins. Now you're hosting games. Now

(05:36):
the Dolphins have to go to Kansas City, where Cincinnati
has to go there or the raven You know, remember
when Miami went there it didn't go well. So you
got to look at it and go, Okay, what's my
record in my division overall record, and what do I
think is going to happen in other divisions here? You've

(05:57):
got to kind of handicap it that way because you
want to be at home for as many of those,
you know, playoff games as possible. Certainly if you're a
team like the Miami Dolphins where weather hasn't been their friend,
Buffalo is not afraid to go anywhere, Cincinnati's not afraid
to go anywhere, Kansas City's not afraid to go anywhere.
Then you have San Francisco, Philadelphia, Detroit. So you know

(06:21):
there's probably seven teams, eight teams right now that you
say could go to a Super Bowl. How many can
win a Super Bowl? So it's it's not a long list.
I know we're all hopeful. If you're a fan base
with a team like the Titans, you're like, you know,
maybe we could, maybe we could kind of sneak in
there as a wild card team. Everybody has hope. That

(06:43):
hope is going to dissipate probably after about a month,
and then you're going to go, Okay, we kind of
know who we are. Like, if I'm an Atlanta Falcon fan,
I'm excited because I have a good offense, Like I
have a really good offense, and that's division you could win.
But if I'm Tampa, I feel pretty good. So there's

(07:05):
certain teams that you go I feel maybe a little
bit better. If I'm a Bears fan, I feel better.
I don't know if they'll make the playoffs. I said
they would Green Bay. All right, Now, you're not a surprise.
You're not gonna sneak up on anybody. The Texans, You're
not gonna sneak up on anybody this year. Somebody's going
up and somebody's coming down. But that's sort of the

(07:27):
beauty of what the NFL tries to, you know, put
forth every single year. They want parody, they want a
surprise team.

Speaker 3 (07:34):
Or two.

Speaker 2 (07:35):
They want, you know, nine and eight, eight nine, you
know that's they're fine with that. Ten and seven. Everybody's
kind of bunched in there. You're gonna have a couple
of teams that are probably gonna have twelve thirteen win seasons,
and then those are the teams that are going to
be hosting playoff games. So I would probably go Kansas City.

(07:56):
I would because I don't think Kansas City played well
last year. I really don't. That game against the Raiders
that was eye opening late in the season and I went, wow,
they are vulnerable. But that was a wake up call.
Andy Reid talked about that that they kind of needed that,

(08:16):
and then we realized they're a defensive first team. Imagine
having the most valuable player in the sport, but it's
the defense that's more valuable to that team, or at
least it was last year when they needed it most
to win a Super Bowl. Mahomes is great, we know
that the defense was the big surprise there. You got Pacheco,

(08:38):
you got Kelsey, like you have enough, and then you're
hoping some of these other receivers, whether it's a rookie
receiver or somebody who has bounced around a little bit.

Speaker 3 (08:47):
Mahomes will make them better.

Speaker 2 (08:48):
But I would say I probably have fewer questions about
Kansas City. That doesn't mean I'm going to pick them
when I make my Super Bowl pick next week. What
other poll question do you have.

Speaker 4 (09:08):
That'd go ahead?

Speaker 3 (09:20):
Bring on the game? Now that's a different era Todd.

Speaker 2 (09:24):
Todd does that in the hallway and he'll just be
walking around and he loves to do theme songs of
TV shows.

Speaker 3 (09:36):
All right, what else do you have there?

Speaker 4 (09:37):
Seat, Well, we're looking at the sort of explosion of
wide receiver contract. Yes, more valuable to your team wide receiver?
Or we put an edge rusher defensive end. Okay, who's
more valuable for the Cowboys. Let's just start there with
Michael Parsons CD Lamb. Who's more valuable?

Speaker 2 (10:00):
You could have a really good argument there because they're
both impactful.

Speaker 3 (10:05):
Cebee Lamb had crazy numbers last year.

Speaker 2 (10:09):
Michael Parsons, I don't know what his sack total was,
But if I put sack total and hurries in there,
what kind of numbers does that compare to Max Crosby
or TJ. Watt or you throw out whoever. Man feels
like it's the wide receiver. You know now, like it's

(10:34):
twenty times when Tyreek Hill got paid and I thought, wow,
you know, i's twenty eight million dollars for a receiver.
And then all of a sudden people started jumping past that.
And then I was told by somebody with the affiliated
with the Dolphins. They're like, oh, Tyreek's gonna wait till
everybody's done, and then he wants to get paid more
than everybody else. So it feels like there's more wide

(10:57):
receivers getting paid than edge rushers. You know what, do
we have five edge rushers? Like Vosa's in there? Who
am I missing from the Miles Garrett's in there? So
you got five guys that you think of that are
you know? Well, that guy can turn a game around

(11:20):
a difference maker. Yes, Marvin is Chris Jones considered an
ed rusher or DT. I just I just look at
him as a football player, like he's Aaron Donald, I
got it. He just he's gonna make plays, and he
does make plays in big, big moments. But I would
just call him a football player. He's sort of that hybrid,

(11:43):
what do you need me to do? And then he'll
end up doing it nine days until the NFL opener,
and today it's cutdown day. Imagine this scenario, and Ross
Tucker so eloquently told us about what it's like to
be the biggest name in your hometown. You were the
star of the high school team, you go to college,

(12:05):
now you're in the NFL. And then all of a sudden,
wait a minute, why is Ross Tucker at the Wendy's.
I just saw him. He's at the dry and he
played football, So your whole identity for the first time
in your life is just chopped off at the knees.

Speaker 3 (12:24):
And he said, you go home.

Speaker 2 (12:26):
And everybody asked the same thing, because you can't miss
a big football player when he's in town. Back in town, everybody, oh,
you knew who I saw today? And Ross talked about
that these guys have been All American five star, four star,
three star, that everywhere they've gone. And now you go
to the NFL and you're just you're holding on for

(12:48):
one of those fifty three spots on the roster, and
then all of a sudden, come on in and bring
your playbook, and now you got to go home, like
you don't even get on the practice squad, but at
least on the practice squad. You're still on the team technically,
but when you're not a professional football player.

Speaker 3 (13:09):
And I'm sure that it's embarrassing.

Speaker 2 (13:11):
Some may find it humiliating that you've been a star
football player. That's your identity until it's not your identity,
and then you go home and you just sit there,
and then you hope that somebody's going to give you
a chance, maybe somebody gets injured, maybe you get to
go back. But I just I can't imagine what that

(13:32):
must feel like, that that's who you are, that's your identity,
and all of a sudden, it's not your identity, and
now you're a former football player.

Speaker 5 (13:41):
Yeah, Marvin, Yeah, I knew a guy that played college
football around my hometown and big jack running back and
he played and he I forgot what team it was,
but he made the last cut and he was selling
insurance now and everyone's like, oh man, you're a big guy.
He used to play football. He's like, I try, I
believe me. I may like the last cut a couple
of years in a row.

Speaker 3 (14:00):
Yes, Todd, that's the other thing.

Speaker 6 (14:01):
What do you do for a living where you're not
constantly running into old high school friends and people are like,
what are you You're working in the mall or you're
working in that selling shoes or whatever you're doing until
you can, you know, re find some other team that
might be interested in you. You have to go home,
and you can't just crawl under the bed. You got
to kind of move all of your life.

Speaker 3 (14:18):
Yeah, and I think you just work out.

Speaker 2 (14:21):
I think you have to keep working out because your
window of opportunity is going to close.

Speaker 3 (14:24):
It's already closing.

Speaker 2 (14:25):
And then maybe you get a chance with somebody else,
and then the following you know, summer, you're going to
try out for a team again, and then you may
be faced with reality of I'm not going to play anymore.

Speaker 3 (14:37):
Yeah.

Speaker 4 (14:38):
It's a weird thing though, that like we're sort of
talking about because it's like.

Speaker 3 (14:43):
Like, oh, hey, loser, you you only made the What happened?
I thought you played it for five years and now
you're not there? What a loser?

Speaker 4 (14:50):
Like? Uh no, he made it further than like pretty
much ninety nine percent of anybody, you know. Yeah, Well,
it's that's something that you need to like hang your
head and shame over.

Speaker 2 (15:01):
You know. Well, I think the player does. I don't
know if the reaction from you know, everyday people, but
when they see you, they're probably like, oh god, well,
hopefully you'll get on a roster again. Everywhere you go,
you're gonna get questions about that. When you go back
to your hometown, Hey, aren't you playing anymore?

Speaker 3 (15:23):
No? Not this year? Well what happened?

Speaker 2 (15:26):
I didn't make that. You don't say you got cut.
Didn't make the fifty three man roster doesn't sound as bad.
Didn't make the fifty three man roster, yes, Marv.

Speaker 5 (15:36):
And the crazy thing about football is it's not like
you can go play overseas. It's not basketball. If you
don't make the Lakers. I can go play in the
G League, or I can go play in Europe or
Australia or whatever. It's it's just here and maybe the
XFL or something like that. But there's no there's no
real options after that.

Speaker 2 (15:54):
All right, we'll get phone calls coming up eight seven
to seven to three DP show, we will settle on
a poll question. We have a football quiz coming up,
and once again, next hour, Matthew Berry will join us
on loan from NBC in Peaconcky's Mister Fantasy Football and
give you some of his advice free of charge. Also
maybe some late round sleepers. That's really when you get

(16:17):
that guy and you go, what round did you get him?
And it'd be like next to last, and then all
of a sudden that guy has a breakout season.

Speaker 3 (16:25):
That's how you win.

Speaker 2 (16:26):
All right, take a break, Just getting started Hour one

Speaker 7 (16:45):
As everybody knows, we're the hosts of the award winning
Polly and Tony Foodsco Show. Yeah, but instead of us
telling you how great we are, here's how Dan Patrick
described us when he came on our show.

Speaker 2 (16:55):
Quick, knowledgeable and funny, opinionated.

Speaker 1 (16:58):
What are you doing up on promo? Yeah, you wasn't
talking about you. You took those clips totally out of context.

Speaker 7 (17:05):
Oh yeah, Well after this promo, I'm gonna take you
out and beat you.

Speaker 1 (17:09):
Let me put this into context. Shut up.

Speaker 7 (17:12):
Yeah, anyway, just listen to the Pauly and Tony Fusco
Show on Ieartradio, Apple podcasts or wherever you get your podcasts.

Speaker 2 (17:18):
Ye, we'll get to your phone calls coming up. Settle
on a poll question. I reached out to DraftKings. I go, okay,
give me over unders for CD Lamb this year, just
signed big deal and then uh, he had a monster
year last year. Over under catches for CD Lamb is

(17:41):
one oh three and a half, over under touchdowns, nine
and a half over under receiving yards thirteen hundred and fifty.
Feels like he better go over all those numbers. If
I'm Dak Prescott, I'm like a man that's just an

(18:02):
average season there. You need him to be spectacular, all right.
So our one poll question, Seaton, are we going to go? Well,
you know, Pauline and I were just talking during the
commercial break. Would you rather have a great receiver or
a great defensive player? Do we want to do edge rusher?
Because that feels like those are the guys getting paid.
So if we're looking at spending your thirty million dollars,

(18:26):
do you want Micah Parsons or CD Lamb?

Speaker 3 (18:28):
Do you want t J. Watt or Justin Jefferson.

Speaker 2 (18:31):
Even when we had JJ watt on, I asked him
who would you rather have Justin Jefferson or your brother?
And then he kind of pleaded the fifth on that.
That give you an idea of what he thinks about
the greatness of Justin Jefferson. And even last year Kirk
Cousins missed what three or four games? And who do

(18:52):
they have as their quarterback? Nick Mullins? And I think
he probably had great numbers with Nick Mullins as his quarterbacks.
So when you say, well, you don't have Kirk Cousins,
you got Sam Darnold in that offense with that coach.
You got another good receiver there, Jordan Addison, you expect
incredible numbers out of him. Tyreek Hill incredible numbers, Like

(19:16):
wasn't it last year where we were saying, could he
get to two thousand yards in that offense? He's probably,
you know, Lisa sixteen seventeen hundred yard guy. Then you
throw in Wadel there as well. Tua in that offense
with Mike McDaniel. I mean, really, that's the difference that
head coach has made a big difference in Tua. So

(19:40):
how about that is a poll question? Would you rather
have the best edge rusher or the best wide receiver?
In football because Paulie and I disagree. I'm going to
take Justin Jefferson, I'll take CD Lamb. You're gonna take
Micah Parsons.

Speaker 8 (19:53):
I think so this is really close, but it seems
like Parsons is unavoidable. You can't run away from him
the whole game. You can only if you double team him.
Someone else has helped out. I guess it works that
way with a wide receiver position, but like, if you
don't have a pass rush, don't I don't think you
really have any chance in the league. And he is
a permanent pass rush. He's really truly unstoppable. If I
had Ceedee Lamb, there's there could be stretches where he

(20:17):
disappears or not him. But wide receivers can be locked
up or double team.

Speaker 2 (20:21):
But those guys can win a game on one play.
Now you can say that about an edge rusher, but
Cede Lamb could do something where you're down at your
twenty and you're down by six and then he scores
a touchdown.

Speaker 3 (20:34):
Yeah. I feel like though, sort of modern game.

Speaker 4 (20:37):
If you're starting your team, you start with a quarterback
and then you go to an edge rusher. Okay, it's
sort of like it feels like currently the most valuable
position on the other side of the ball or the
second most valuable position in the game.

Speaker 3 (20:52):
Yeah, you have to have that guy.

Speaker 2 (20:55):
Yes, it feels like that. But today's game is predicated
on offense. Certainly the regular season is it's weird. I
look at the regular season differently than the postseason. Postseason,
give me that defensive guy, because they're one possession games,
whether you know sometimes plays a role in this. It
just gets you start to get a little more conservative

(21:18):
with your play calling and trying to make sure you
take you know, you don't have turnovers. Like it just
feels like defense is going to win a championship. And
you can say this about you know, all of these
great quarterbacks. How many times did those games come down
to did the defense do something? A defense did A

(21:38):
defense didn't even go back to Tampa Bay, Brady gets
credit for the Super Bowl. That defense was unbelievable against
Patrick Mahomes, even the Chiefs this year. The defense winning
a Super Bowl making a big play when you need
to make a big play. Now you can say, well,
you're picking and choosing here. I just know, when a
game is on the line, do you have a defensive

(22:01):
player's going to make a play and if you do,
chances are you're going to win. In the regular season,
it just doesn't feel like defense is as important or
something maybe you know, we focus on, but in the
postseason we do.

Speaker 8 (22:15):
Yeah, Paulin, this is such a tough question because you
could look at the wide receiver position. Remember like three
or four years ago, when DeVante Adams and Aaron Rodgers
were hooking up and maybe third and five and everyone
knew exactly where the ball was going. There wasn't even
really a question and they still couldn't stop it. And
Justin Jefferson feels that way and ceedee Lamb, like, do
I have a guy on my team where it's third
and five. Everyone knows he's getting it, He's going to

(22:36):
run a six yard pattern and nothing you can do
stop you know, if you look at Grinkowski at his peak,
or guys like that Travis Kelcey at the goal line,
I mean, there's a point where it's kind of silly.
Everyone knows he's getting the ball and it's still unstoppable.

Speaker 2 (22:51):
All right, So maybe we'll do that as the poll
question first hour, you'd rather have how are you going
to phrase that the best receiver or best defensive player.

Speaker 4 (23:02):
Well, right, now we got up there, more valuable to
the Cowboys, ceed Lammer, Michael Parsons. And then we'll also
put up would you rather have the best wide receiver
or edge rusher? But I think that's gonna be pretty lopsided.
You do, I do?

Speaker 9 (23:15):
Yeah?

Speaker 4 (23:16):
Okay, yeah, I think if you were to say would
you rather have the best wide receiver or the best
tight end, you might have a different conversation.

Speaker 2 (23:26):
I'd still rather have the best wide receiver. Like if
you said I could have Travis Kelcey or I could
have Justin Jefferson. I'm gonna take Justin Jefferson. Now, if
you said it's a big game, I've seen Travis Kelcey
in a big game.

Speaker 3 (23:43):
See, it's different.

Speaker 2 (23:44):
There's certain players when it gets to the postseason, like
Tom Brady in the regular season, Eh, Tom Brady postseason.

Speaker 3 (23:53):
Just different.

Speaker 2 (23:54):
Peyton Manning big numbers regular season, postseason, not as much.

Speaker 4 (24:00):
In the postseason without Rober Grinkowski also different to though Okay,
I mean he certainly. I mean it's not the whole
span of his career, but things certainly changed when they
had dual tight ends that were essentially like unstoppable wide receivers.

Speaker 2 (24:17):
Is there a movie out on Aaron Rodgers or Aaron Hernandez.
I think is it a movie?

Speaker 8 (24:22):
It's one of those like four parts series.

Speaker 2 (24:24):
I think because Arnold Schwarzenegger's son Patrick is playing Tim
Tebow in in this the series. Is it a series
not a movie?

Speaker 3 (24:36):
It's a series on FX.

Speaker 8 (24:38):
Okay, oh, they do that series, like I guess the
similar theme they did The O. J. Simpson series was
like four or five parts. Okay, this is the Aaron
Hernandez version.

Speaker 3 (24:47):
Okay, yeah, I was like, wow, Patrick Schwarzenegger.

Speaker 8 (24:51):
Is American Sports Story, a ten episode look at the
rise and fall of NFL superstar Aaron Hernandez ten parts.

Speaker 2 (25:01):
Andrew and Washington, Good morning, Andrew. What's on your mind today?

Speaker 9 (25:05):
Good morning Dan, Dan. It's great to be back. Hope
you all are doing well. I just had a couple
of comments and then a stat of the day. But
I don't know if you've noticed, but the documentary Steinfeler
came out on Netflix today about the Connor Stallions in
Michigan debacle. He's come out and pretty much took the
Andy Pettit route that he doesn't recall buying any tickets

(25:27):
for anybody to go to any other games, and he
didn't participate in any in person advanced scouting, which I
find quite funny. And what his lawyer's doing is the
tack that they're taking is that the evidence of this
was gotten illegally because the.

Speaker 10 (25:42):
Investigators won't tell him where they got it, and of
course they're pegging it on the Ohio State University. Do
you think the NCAA will actually rule on this at all? Well,
this just kind of goes by the wayside and five
years will forget about it. And then I do have
a stat of the day, real quick, Okay.

Speaker 11 (26:01):
So the Cubs.

Speaker 12 (26:04):
Die in true fashion, Dan, The Cubs are bringing back
the steal you wanted more running in baseball. They had
eight steals in last night eighteen to eight win against
Pittsburgh Pirate. That's the most steals the Cubs have had

(26:25):
in the game since they had eight steals in nineteen thirteen.
That's your stat of the day.

Speaker 5 (26:31):
The dime.

Speaker 2 (26:39):
Seven of the cubs stolen bases came while Mitch Keller
was pitching for the Pirates. The last time somebody gave
up seven stolen bases Jake Arietta back in twenty seventeen,
but the Cubs had eight stolen bases. Seven came off
Mitch Keller. You know, maybe they noticed something with Mitch Keller.
I'm just guessing there, Mitch free pass Keller?

Speaker 5 (27:05):
Uh?

Speaker 3 (27:06):
Ben in Texas?

Speaker 2 (27:07):
Hi, Ben, what's on your mind today?

Speaker 9 (27:10):
Hey?

Speaker 13 (27:11):
DT? Hey, my name is Vince from Austin, tex Okay.
I wanted to give you guys posts for having talked
on last week. Way to go Berry, classy as we
headed to SEC and for first seats, my name from
hell with the same instead of Tomy John Surgery, he
meets the Elton John Surgery, And I have a football
question for you guys. Okay, who was the first NFL

(27:38):
player to win back to back to back Super Bowl titles?

Speaker 2 (27:44):
First player to win three consecutive Super Bowl titles?

Speaker 13 (27:48):
Yeah, the Chiefs will have multiple guys this year.

Speaker 9 (27:51):
But who's the first player?

Speaker 3 (27:53):
Did he play for Dallas and San Francisco?

Speaker 9 (27:57):
Yes?

Speaker 2 (27:58):
Ken Norton Jr. Alrighty, what thank you Blue Blue, Thank
you Ben? Elton John Surgery for you Todd instead of
Tommy John. How's the arm? How's the arm? After you
hyper Extendard playing ball.

Speaker 6 (28:13):
I haven't gone to the doctor yet because I keep
waiting for it to get better. But what I've put
on it so far hasn't done.

Speaker 3 (28:19):
The trick that was eight weeks ago.

Speaker 6 (28:22):
You know, I've been very patient with it. I keep
hoping the next day, the next day, it's just going
to all of a sudden, magically.

Speaker 3 (28:27):
Are you Are you being patient?

Speaker 2 (28:29):
Are you being a bad patient because you're waiting eight
weeks just because you don't want to.

Speaker 6 (28:34):
I'm trying to do the opposite of my upbringing, which
was to run to the doctor for every sneeze, cough,
for it something.

Speaker 2 (28:39):
You didn't run to the doctor, your mom would take
you to the doctor.

Speaker 6 (28:43):
So because of that, I'm trying to do the opposite
and not run unless I absolutely have to get something checked,
because I had too many years of running. You have
a cough and then you got to go check for
strep throat right away just because you cleared your throat
or something.

Speaker 3 (28:55):
Okay, that was tough.

Speaker 2 (28:57):
Maybe maybe you just have a physical therapist look at it.

Speaker 6 (29:01):
I think I have some kind of tendon itis story
hyper extended arm.

Speaker 2 (29:04):
I'm sorry, yeah, okay, serious wiffleball injury alrighty uh, we
have a quick football quiz. It's injury related, Paulie, Marvin,
you got some football like, yes.

Speaker 3 (29:16):
They got some football theme music.

Speaker 8 (29:18):
Here, perfect transition. Dan Fritzy just mentioned his injury. I
just air quoted you mentioned earlier that I think Christian
McCaffery or some other players have soft tissue injuries. That's
a phrase. It's been used the past couple of years.

Speaker 10 (29:30):
In the NFL.

Speaker 8 (29:31):
Does anyone, because I know I don't, does anyone know
what soft tissue injuries actually means When it's referred to
an NFL player.

Speaker 3 (29:38):
It feels like it's a tender hamstring. It's all guess.

Speaker 4 (29:42):
Okay, I believe this soft tissue would be a muscle
because it's like soft.

Speaker 8 (29:48):
Okay, that's also my guess. Was muscle muscle pole, muscle strain?

Speaker 2 (29:52):
Yeah, Todd, what about you speaking of soft like a tendon?

Speaker 3 (29:56):
Oh tendon?

Speaker 6 (29:57):
Soft tendon?

Speaker 2 (29:59):
Okay, Marvin, you you got a soft tissue definition muscle
strain for short?

Speaker 8 (30:03):
All right, Well, we hear it all the time, but
no one ever explains this. So a soft tissue injury
can be muscles, ligaments, and tendons. They're all part of
the soft tissue milieu. So it could be a pull,
a strain, a bruise, a contusion, it could be stress,

(30:24):
et cetera, et cetera. But it's not bones or any
tears of ligaments. It's more of like a light injury.

Speaker 6 (30:31):
Soft they're referred to as the Kleenex injuries. All right,
soft tissue, cleanex.

Speaker 8 (30:40):
The expert witness on this topic, You're entirely made of
soft tissue.

Speaker 2 (30:45):
By the way, they're not going to use the digital
first down marker first down line this season. I guess
they're gonna do it for twenty twenty five. They tried
it during the preseason. I still like the chain guy.
I just like when they come out and there's a measurement.
I don't want to take out that because there is

(31:06):
that anticipation. Now, do I think it's an exact science
of where they mark the football? Sometimes No, I don't,
but I do like that when you see these guys
coming out there, waddling out there, and they bring the
chain and then they measure and then all of a sudden,
oh they didn't get Oh no, they just extended it.
And then you're like, that's exciting. If you have the

(31:29):
digital line marker, first down marker. It's like the okay,
first out. I like the anticipation there a little bit.
All right, take a break. We got our poll question
coming up. We got more phone calls and some help
for your fantasy league coming up.

Speaker 3 (31:43):
Next hour with Matthew Barring. We're back after this.

Speaker 1 (31:46):
Be sure to catch the live edition of The Dan
Patrick Show weekdays at nine am Eastern six am Pacific
on Fox Sports Radio and the iHeartRadio wapp.

Speaker 3 (31:56):
Oh my God, the day God play.

Speaker 13 (32:03):
This is the play of the day. Check this out.

Speaker 3 (32:08):
Maybe that swing drives it in the air deep left center.

Speaker 1 (32:12):
Judge yping, Judge where and judge what a play?

Speaker 3 (32:18):
He does it all and there's the double play. That's
courtesy of Yes Network.

Speaker 2 (32:25):
Yankees have won five of their last six two games
up on Baltimore in the American League. That's your play
of the day, brought to you by Express Employment Professionals.
Managing staff for your supply chain is complex. Let the
pros help you providing a workforce for you. With Express,
you can lower contingent labor costs and reduce turnover. Go

(32:45):
to expresspros dot com find the location nearest to you.
That's expresspros dot Com. You know it's a big deal.
When you see a headline that Aaron Judge didn't Homer
last night, that's when you know that, you know, And
I go back to Sosa Maguire that became Those were
the headlines when they were having their home run chase,

(33:07):
their battle back and forth. It was did either one
of them homeward breaking into programming if one of those
guys homeward. Aaron Judge isn't there yet because he's chasing himself,
trying to get to sixty three home runs. But he
didn't Homer. He did get a base hit, so he
has one thousand career hits. And I think the last

(33:29):
Yankee to get one thousand career hits was Brett Gardner
in twenty seventeen. First Yankee to reach one thousand career
hits Brett Gardner twenty seventeen.

Speaker 3 (33:42):
Woo Stan a Day Stana Day. Stantaa Day Stana Day.

Speaker 2 (33:51):
This is the Stele of the Day, stat of the Day,
brought to you by Panini America, the official trading cards
of the program.

Speaker 3 (34:01):
Yeah, Aaron Judge didn't Homer.

Speaker 2 (34:03):
Get used to that for the next couple of weeks
because that is what this is going to be about.

Speaker 3 (34:07):
Judge is going to win the MVP.

Speaker 2 (34:09):
You can make a case that this season is better
than it was a couple of years ago when he
won the MVP. But if I said you, now, we
don't know if show Hayotani is going to go fifty
to fifty.

Speaker 3 (34:22):
But I was watching Mike and Toni on.

Speaker 2 (34:24):
Part in the interruption yesterday, and if you said Aaron
Judge hit sixty three home runs and was in the
chase for the Triple Crown, He's not going to win
the batting title, at least I don't think he is.
But if you said that show Hayotani was going fifty
to fifty, or you could have Aaron Judge hit his

(34:45):
sixty third home run, I'm going to take show Hayotani.
And the reason is I didn't expect these kind of
numbers from him, given the fact that he had surgery
in the offseason. We knew he wasn't going to pitch,
and but we knew he was going to hit. Now
we're encouraging more stolen bases, and I'm glad to see that,

(35:08):
But if you have somebody go fifty fifty, that's never
been done before. Now you can say Aaron Judge getting
to sixty three, it's been done before, but it hasn't
been done cleanly.

Speaker 3 (35:22):
Uh.

Speaker 2 (35:22):
So I would say, while Judge is impressive, fifty to
fifty has never been done before, even if he goes
forty five forty five, even just going forty forty is
incredible to be able to do that. And plus when
you look at how big he is, like, I mean,
he's now he's not like Judge, but he's pretty close

(35:46):
to it. You know, he's probably what six ' five,
and it's he's a big dude. And so he runs
extremely well and they've let him run, which I found interesting.
I didn't I thought that that might be where Dave
Rob says, hey, let's ease up on running, let's just
focus on you know, you're at bats. But they've let
him go and we've seen what he can do when

(36:08):
you go forty forty. So I would say even at
forty forty, I might lean towards that that Aaron Judge
hitting his sixty third.

Speaker 3 (36:17):
But if this was.

Speaker 2 (36:18):
If Aaron Judge and sho hey O Tani were both
in the American League, you might have co MVPs, right,
you might have co MVPs. That doesn't happen very often.
Did it happen with Keith Hernandez and Willie Stargeld?

Speaker 9 (36:39):
Or might.

Speaker 2 (36:41):
I thought we had co MVPs? Or did we have
like co Sportsmen of the Years or something? Yeah, Paulie, I'm.

Speaker 8 (36:48):
Blooping you a Keith Hernandez Willy Stargell in nineteen seventy nine.

Speaker 2 (36:51):
Already still got it? Yep, still got it, Yeah, Pauli.

Speaker 8 (36:55):
Aaron Judge was according to the DraftKings was the favorite
in the al before the seeds started. You could have
got a deal on Otani. He was plus nine to fifty.
He was fourth for the MVP because he wasn't pitching
he was. He went down a little bit from the
previous years.

Speaker 3 (37:09):
Well, was it Ronald Acunya Junior the third correct?

Speaker 8 (37:11):
Kunya Mookie bets Freddie Freeman than Otani casally the Dodgers
line up and a few other dudes.

Speaker 3 (37:17):
Well give them a couple of years though, have a
Kunya there? Yeah right, yeah, all right, early poll results Seaton.

Speaker 4 (37:26):
We got two of them up right now, both of
them basically off of CD LAMB. Would you rather have
the best wide receiver or the best edge rusher right now.
Edge rusher's got seventy percent of that vote. And who's
more valuable to the Cowboys, Cede Lamb or Michaeh Parsons.
Michaeh Parsons has sixty one percent.

Speaker 3 (37:44):
Of that vote. Jeff and Milwaukee, Hi, Jeff, what's on
your mind today?

Speaker 11 (37:51):
Heay morning? If I have to answer the poll, I'm
going to go defense on both of those. But the
real answer, I think is either cornerback or offensive line.
And he can point to the Packers win over them
in the playoffs. Micah did nothing. Steedee Lamb got pushed
her ound, pushed her own and did not react to
j Alexander. So I'll take the Packers young receiving core

(38:15):
and pay for defense.

Speaker 3 (38:17):
Okay, that's that's fair.

Speaker 2 (38:18):
I mean we actually saw that happen where Micah was
neutralized and Jayra Alexander did a wonderful job on Ceedee Lamb.

Speaker 4 (38:26):
Yes, I think part of the thing with Ceedee Lamb
is and I think that this is important to Dallas specifically,
is he's a superstar. He looks like a rock star,
he carries himself like a superstar. Everything about him is
that that's not really a place where you're like, why
don't we go cheap on like a skill position player.
We'll just cycle them in and out like Dallas Cowboys.

(38:48):
They need stars, they need larger than life personalities, and
he is one hundred percent one of them.

Speaker 3 (38:54):
It's like the Yankees.

Speaker 2 (38:55):
The Yankees realized that their TV broadcast that it was
like a TV show, and they went out and spent
money on big names. Maybe not the best names, but
they were big names. You were tuning in as if
you were watching Friends or Seinfeld. That they treated it
that way, that you're going to be able and you're

(39:15):
gonna know who those players are. Yeah, Marvin, did.

Speaker 5 (39:17):
That all start with Reggie Jackson?

Speaker 3 (39:21):
I don't know as far.

Speaker 5 (39:23):
As like the big free agent, Yeah, a star and
get them over the hump to win a World Series.

Speaker 3 (39:29):
Well, if you can get both, then yes.

Speaker 2 (39:32):
But but you know, George Steinbrenner was the first to
have the Yes Network. It was a Yankee network and
at the time, you're going, what are you going to
fill it up with? But you know that's why they
wanted you to tune in and was mussy TV and
you knew who these players were, so you knew who
Jeter was, and Bernie was, Tino Martinez was, Andy Pettitt was.

(39:55):
You knew all of these players. Hey, we're going to
go out and get Roger Clemens. Hey, we're going to
go get whoever Jose Canseco. We're going to get whoever
we can get Dwight Gooden. We want to get players
that you were going to know who they are. And
there's a tune in factor to that. And give Steinbrenner
credit that brilliant business decision, I think by all accounts.

(40:20):
All right, So one hour in the books, two more
to go. We got college football coming up Thursday night.
Pretty good slate here. We'll run down the college football
Thursday night edition and we'll talk some fantasy football. Matthew
Berry will join us, give you some tips on what
to do and not to do in your fantasy league.
My son bothered me all weekend long. He kept saying,

(40:42):
you do this for a living. Can't you help me
with my fantasy team? And I said, at what point
do you leave the nest. You're thirty two years of age.
Stop leaning on me. You're not on scholarship anymore. He
had his draft last night. He wants Matthew Berry to
grade it for him. These kids, when will they leave
