pull question, play of the Day, stat of the Day forthcoming?
Speaker 3 (00:54):
Who saw that coming? Last night?
Speaker 2 (00:57):
The Eagles with a chance to wrap it up? And
a third and three and if you were watching the
Manning cast, Peyton Eli and Matt Ryan all three said
the ball is not going to go in the air.
Now they were saying this before the end result, because
once again we can have revisionist history of oh, you
(01:17):
never throw the ball. Saquon needs to make that catch.
Didn't make that catch, the drop and then they kick
the field goal. You give the Falcons a chance. And
what Eli and Peyton and Matt Ryan all said, you
don't put the ball in the air. That's the only
way the Falcons will get the ball back is if
you put the ball in the air. They put it
(01:37):
in the air. Saquon had a drop. We'll come up
with a poll question here and South Palmintonio covers the
Eagles for the Mothership will join us coming up a
little bit later on. The mess that is the Carolina
Panthers continues to be a mess as Bryce Young is benched.
Is this their way of saying, we're going to move
on from Bryce Young. We'll check in with the Panthers
(02:00):
coming up a little bit later on. But the Falcons
come back beat the Eagles twenty two to twenty one,
and Kirk Cousins throws for two forty one two touchdowns.
There's a couple of things that stood out here. I'm
going to start with Kirk Cousins. He usually doesn't do
well in primetime. We know that, but you should realize this.
He was two to nine in primetime games. He's now
(02:23):
won three of his last five, and he's They got
the ball back, and you got the feeling Philadelphia wasn't
putting any pressure on him. I think he went back
to pass what thirty one times? They hit him twice.
I don't think they sacked him. That's inexcusable. Kirk Cousins
can't move. He's coming off Achilles surgery. I want to
(02:48):
put pressure on Kirk Cousins. I want him uncomfortable now.
As Bill Belichick said, Atlanta has a really good offensive line,
so I'm going to take his word on that. You
got a really good defensive line. Even though you don't
have Hassan Reddick anymore, you still have to put pressure
on Kirk Cousins. That was really, really surprising for me.
(03:12):
Philadelphia had their chance to blow it open. The Falcons
really good except for when they got inside the twenty
yard line. But give them credit. Drake London with an
unbelievable move for that touchdown reception. So give the Falcons credit.
They were resilient. They stayed in the moment there, but
it came down to a big drop. Here's Jalen Hurts
(03:34):
talking about that play.
Speaker 4 (03:37):
I don't I don't want to add any extra wood
to it. It's when just to make the play in
that moment, and I trust them in every moment. He said,
a hell of a player. He gave us a big
spark in those moments. Said, you know, it just wasn't.
It just wasn't for us tonight.
Speaker 3 (03:55):
And I get it.
Speaker 2 (03:56):
You got three yards, but the problem is you have
a good offensive line. I got say Kwon Barkley, I
Jalen Hurts. Can I get three yards on two plays?
Because my thought was, you just run the ball twice,
you should be able to get three yards. Then the
game is over. Now the play, you know where the
(04:20):
pass was. He was in the flat, so it's not
going to be intercepted. You have to make sure you
catch it, stay in bounds, get the first down. Seems
pretty simple with a game on the line, it wasn't
so simple. But I'm going to go back to what
Peyton and Eli and Matt Ryan said prior to the pass.
Prior to the play, that ball will not be in
(04:41):
the air, so I got three Hall of Fame quarterbacks
all saying the same thing, that ball is not going
to be in the air.
Speaker 3 (04:49):
And look, we.
Speaker 2 (04:51):
Can all look back and go, well, they should have
run in the moment they said, do not throw the football.
Here is Nick Sirianni, the Eagles head coach.
Speaker 5 (05:02):
Are there decisions you would have done differently?
Speaker 6 (05:03):
Unitedly?
Speaker 2 (05:04):
Sure?
Speaker 7 (05:04):
Like anytime you go, you go and you don't get
points on a drive in the red zone, you know,
fourth and three in the first one, You're like, well,
should I have one for that there? And you know
I went for a fourth and three after that, you
know when after the convert or the completion of Dallas
that got us the fourth and three, We got that
and we got points out of that. So anytime it
(05:25):
doesn't work out, you know, that's why I'm sitting in
this seat, the head coaching seat, like I gotta be
ready for the consequences of whether it works or whether
it doesn't work.
Speaker 2 (05:36):
Okay, it's one forty three to go. Atlanta has no
timeouts if you run the ball. So now we're going
to get down to a min like worst case worst, worst,
worst case scenario, They're gonna have to go ninety five
yards and probably have forty seconds to go. I think
that's what Eli Peyton and Matt Ryan were thinking. Worst
(05:57):
case scenario, we got Kirk Cousins and the Falcons backed
up on the road and no timeouts. But even I mean, well,
once again, you're not putting pressure on Kirk Cousins. He
looked comfortable in the pocket and he's got a couple
of playmakers there, and it cost you dearly. The Eagles
have lost three of their last four games at home,
(06:21):
and Nick Siriani has no margin for error. He doesn't like,
you have a talented team, you just paid your quarterback,
you traded get you paid Saquon Barkley. They're not getting fired.
You're going to get fired. But in that moment, and
you know you take the blame, he kind of dispensed
(06:45):
the blame to everybody. It's on the coach, just start there.
It doesn't even have to get to the players. It's
on you. Now, I can blame that defense for allowing
Kirk Cousins to carve you up for a game winning score. Absolutely,
But that seemed like, how is Philadelphia going to lose
(07:05):
this game? And it was twenty one to fifteen, and
I thought, man, the odds makers did it again. This
spread was five and a half and I'm like, CALLI
they did it because Atlanta's not going to go down
the field on Philadelphia in Philadelphia in primetime with Kirk
d Cousins.
Speaker 3 (07:23):
And then they did it.
Speaker 2 (07:25):
Had time, got a couple of plays and Peyton talked
about it again. He said, all you need is make
sure you don't have a drop on first down, get
positive yards. You need one play, you need one big play.
And they actually got two big plays and they got
down inside the red zone and Drake London was awesome
with that move.
Speaker 3 (07:45):
Awesome, and they ended up with the win.
Speaker 2 (07:47):
Although there's a celebration penalty on Drake London after the touchdown,
so then you have to kick an extra point from
like forty two yards out.
Speaker 3 (07:56):
I'm going, oh my.
Speaker 2 (07:56):
God, you imagine they're going to end a tie go
into overtime because too much celebrating.
Speaker 5 (08:05):
Yes, bully, Drake London, great play, great catch. You know,
this is a guy who needed a career moment. He
does this like shooting towards the crowd. Move he's four
feet from the referee. The referee could reach out and
touch him. He does it right in front of the
ref's face.
Speaker 2 (08:20):
Here is the new mister Primetime. Kirk Cousins after the win.
Speaker 8 (08:25):
It's so important to find ways to win, and that's
how you put together a great season is you know,
when you have these games, it could go either way.
You find a way to have it break your way.
And that's the way this league is. And so when
we can find those inches, it can really change the
tail of the season. So it's cool making the long
extra point. It's our defense standing up at the end too.
And I've been a part of games where you go
(08:45):
down and score and then you walk out of here
with a loss because you missed that extra point and
you go to overtime or you don't get to stop
at the end. So it really does take everybody to
find a way to come out here with a win.
Speaker 2 (08:57):
He needed that win, needed it because I'm watching social media.
Oh they got to put Michael Pennix in. Now, Cousin's struggling,
and Kirk admits he's not one hundred percent, but I
didn't expect him to be one hundred percent. But then
all of a sudden he's okay. Leads him down for
the game winning score.
Speaker 9 (09:17):
Yes, it's tough too when you're watching Peyton Eli and
Bill Belichick watch Kirk Cousins and be like, man, he
is way too late with these throws. Yeah, over and
over and over and multiple times, especially in the first half,
they were like, see, man, you got to stop hitching.
Throw the ball. They the three of them were pretty
especially Bill and Peyton, were pretty unfiltered, and they they
weren't holding back when they were like, man, he is
(09:39):
just holding onto the ball way too long. Like throw
it now and then they'll know how long he waited
after that.
Speaker 2 (09:45):
Well, also, there was no pressure on him, and I
think in his mind he's like, I do have more time,
And I think, you know, Peyton and Belichick were probably going,
you know, make it quicker, make you know these these players,
these receivers coming out of their break, you got to
be you know, it's got to be a timing thing,
and they were right. But I think Kirk was like,
I got time back here they're hitting me twice, no sacks.
(10:11):
Saquon Barkley talked about letting the team down.
Speaker 6 (10:15):
Dropped the ball my team now to day uh Seann
Hefflet's decays in opposition made that catch came over, relaxed,
going back to my o Habis and Skyta go back
and could that's work.
Speaker 2 (10:31):
Saquon Barkley was supposed to join us coming up in
about ten minutes, and we heard from him this morning
and uh, I actually sent a text to the show
this might be the first time in history that somebody
was supposed to join us. And I even said this yesterday.
They better win because he's not going to join us,
or it's going to be awkward if he does. And
(10:54):
he had a pretty good game obviously had the big drop,
but he did send me a text earlier this morning,
about an hour ago, and I'll have that for you
coming up. And I'll give you my thoughts on this too,
because we do this, we're booking people and then there's
a game. You know, Todd has the tough job of
doing this where you're going to try to talk to
(11:16):
somebody even after a loss or they did lose, are
they going to still come on? So we'll have that
for you coming up. Also, the big story with Bryce
Young being benched. I feel bad for him. Not every
number one pick, not every first round pick at that position,
should start Bryce Young. He just seemed overwhelmed by it.
(11:40):
If I'm playing at Alabama and I've got the offensive line,
I got a Hall of Fame coach, I got a
running back, I got wide receivers who are first round pick,
it's pretty easy. It's not easy in Carolina. Although I've
been told their offensive line is a lot better than
I'm giving them credit for. They don't have playmakers there.
And the first thing that goes with these quarterbacks is
(12:03):
your confidence, and then you get into bad habits and
then all of a sudden, you want the ball out
of your hands. You don't want to be running for
your life. So Andy Dalton is going to be the
starting quarterback. I don't know what the timeline is here,
but they might be saying goodbye to Bryce Young. They
might be admitting they made a mistake. Well, they did
(12:25):
make a mistake because of what they gave up to
get the opportunity to take Bryce Young. And Bryce Young
will always be compared to c. J. Stroud, just like
Ryan Leaf was always compared to Peyton Manning. But Bryce
Young is now going to sit and he probably should have.
(12:46):
But there's enough of a sample size here. There's eighteen games,
He's two and sixteen He's not threatening. They're not threatening,
even as two wins. I don't even think they had
twenty points. I get the feeling this came from high
above with the owner, David Tepper, because the head coach,
(13:07):
Dave Canalis, he talked about Bryce was his quarterback, and
then all of a sudden, Andy gives us the best
chance to win.
Speaker 9 (13:17):
Make up your mind, coach, make up your mind here. Yeah,
it's kind of like you guys want to win? Why? Yeah,
Like that's kind of my reaction to it. Now he
gives us the best chance to win. Why are you
trying to do that?
Speaker 2 (13:31):
Okay, but let's fast forward to April. The Carolina Panthers
are on the clock.
Speaker 3 (13:41):
What are you doing? We'll take a break back after
this Dan Patrick show.
Speaker 1 (13:46):

Hey, we're Cavino and atch Fox Sports Radio every day

never have enough time to get to everything we want
to get.
Speaker 11 (14:07):
To, and that's why we have a brand new podcast
called over Promised. You see, we're having so much fun
in our two hour show. We never get to everything, honestly,
because this guy is over promising things we never have
time for.
Speaker 1 (14:20):
Yeah, you blober list me.
Speaker 10 (14:21):
Well, you know what it's called over promise. You should
be good at it because you've been over promising women
for years.
Speaker 11 (14:25):
Well, it's a Covino and Rich after show, and we
want you to be a part of it. We're gonna
be talking sports, of course, but we're also gonna talk
life and relationships. And if Rich and I are arguing
about something or we didn't have enough time, it will
continue on our after show called over Promised.
Speaker 10 (14:39):
Well, if you don't get enough Covino and Rich, make
sure you check out over Promised and also uncensored by
the way, so maybe.
Speaker 3 (14:45):
We'll go at it even a little harder.
Speaker 10 (14:47):
It's gonna be the best after show podcast of all time.
Speaker 11 (14:49):
There you go, over promising, and remember you could see
it on YouTube, but definitely join us. Listen Over Promised
with Covino and Rich on the iHeartRadio app, Apple podcasts
or wherever you get your podcasts.
Speaker 2 (15:02):
Seat will do the honors with a poll question. Today,
Probably a couple of those phone calls always welcome. Operator
Tyler sitting by EH seven seven three DP show. We'll
check in with the Carolina Panthers who have benched Bryce
Young South Palanntonio the Mothership was there last night with
the Eagles losing in dramatic fashion to the Falcons, we
were scheduled to have Saquon Barkley on, and as soon
(15:25):
as he dropped that ball, I said to myself, probably
not having Saquon Barkley on. And we talked about this
in the final segment yesterday. If the Eagles happened to
lose that game, this is the tough part. You know,
Fritzy's booking people. We can get somebody. Oh, they have
a game the night before and this is a sponsored booking.
(15:47):
So he was going to be on because he was
selling a product. And then I said this morning when
I came in, I said, it's probably wise if Saquon
doesn't join us.
Speaker 3 (15:58):
I understood it.
Speaker 2 (16:00):
I understood it because you know, first of all, if
you're the sponsor and you're paying him to endorse you,
people aren't going to be focusing on the product. They're
going to be focusing on the fact that Saquon is
on a show, right after this drop, right after this loss,
and he's selling something, you know, to America.
Speaker 3 (16:18):
I get it. I've been doing this a long time.
Speaker 2 (16:23):
And we just celebrated the twenty fifth anniversary of the
Dan Patrick Show. I could probably on one hand tell
you the number of times that I've heard from an
athlete who had to cancel. It's very very rare. You
hear from an athlete. Now, you might hear from a
PR person, Now you might hear from a sponsor. But
(16:44):
Saquon texts the show and said that he was sorry
and that he'll do his best to make it up
to us. I mean, that's a classy move. I'm not
surprised because I've always felt that way with our interactions
with him. He seems like a really good guy, good kid.
(17:04):
And the fact that he reached out and said that
he didn't have to do that, but I do appreciate that.
And once again, you can't come on talking about a
product after you just had that.
Speaker 3 (17:17):
The ending of that game.
Speaker 2 (17:19):
But we do appreciate him doing that, and we'll try
to have him on at an appropriate time. And it's
always difficult, you know, Fritzy's trying to juggle, like, who
do we have on first hour, they can join us,
and we wanted to have him on the show, but
I just, I mean, it makes it tougher to do
(17:41):
an interview where you can actually talk to a person
about more than just last night's game or that drop
on third down.
Speaker 3 (17:48):
Yeah, you can't do it.
Speaker 2 (17:51):
Had they won the game, had he caught that ball,
had he got the first down, now it's a different
tone with the interview, and I agree, stand it. I'd
like to have mon but I'd like to have him
on when I can do an interview, a conversation with him,
not interrogating over dropping the ball, because there's only so
many ways you can ask what were you thinking? Or
(18:16):
what do you say when you go back to the huddle,
or what's Jalen Hurts say to you? Or but you know,
was there any thought of running the ball? So, once
again a long winded way of saying, you know, we
appreciate him doing that, and uh, you know he had
a he had a tough night last night. Had this
to say on that late game drop This courtesy of
(18:37):
w IP in Philadelphia.
Speaker 6 (18:40):
I could sit here anyhow, you know, complain and be
upset about it, or I could be a professional athlete
and go back to drawing boards and you know, take
the leg and move on and get better from me.
I made that play multiple times. I missed that played
before too, meaning a situation that happens party game when
I's gotta be better. I let my team down. I
got a man up to it.
Speaker 3 (18:57):
I got on it what I'm doing, and I.
Speaker 6 (18:59):
Promise those guys in his locker room now I'll be
better for them.
Speaker 2 (19:02):
Okay, I mean there's there's probably a handful of comments
by him that are very similar to this. It's I
let my team down, drop the ball, and he's he
stood there and he answered questions at his locker after
the game as well. All right, so we won't have
Saquan on South pal Antonio will join us coming up
(19:26):
next to our sal was at the game last night,
so we'll get South Palaces thoughts on this, and then
check in with the Carolina Panthers as they move on
from Bryce Young Seaton.
Speaker 3 (19:36):
Poll question for hour one is going to be what
we're putting up there.
Speaker 9 (19:39):
The biggest loss right now Deebo forty nine Ers Pacheco
with the Chiefs, McCaffrey and the forty nine Ers Pooka
in the Rams. Okay, those are four big players.
Speaker 3 (19:51):
Yeah, Paully.
Speaker 5 (19:53):
My reaction to this is actually Isaiah Pacheco. I think
he's drastically underrated for a team that's not great at
running the ball generally.
Speaker 3 (20:02):
Well, aren't they bringing in Kareem Hunt to give a look?
See again?
Speaker 6 (20:06):
Like that?
Speaker 3 (20:07):
I think, Yeah, but you're right.
Speaker 2 (20:09):
I said it yesterday, and I don't know if I
captured Isaiah Pachecko's value to the Chiefs like it's more
of and I still can't describe it. It's he doesn't
cost you. He runs really hard. It just feels like,
and it sounds cheesy to say he's the heartbeat when
you got Patrick Mahomes, but you have almost He kind
(20:34):
of sets the temperature for this team the way he runs,
always tough yards. You expect Mahomes to be mahomes in
and Travis Kelcey, but it feels like, when you need
a play, you need big yards, you need something. Isaiah Pachecko.
I can't say enough about him. I mean, just how
he plays. Seventh round pick out of Rutgers. He runs
(20:56):
hard and now not to have him in there. I
know mcaffrey's the best running back and maybe the best
player in the NFL, or certainly most valuable. But they
do have more talent on San Francisco that you can go, oh,
we got somebody else who can run the football. I
don't know if Kansas City has that. We're going to
(21:17):
find out, but I do think that they were starting
to see teams run the ball more. If I'm I
find this really surprising, I'm not going to say alarming,
but I do find it surprising. Passing touchdowns in the
NFL through two weeks. If I go back to twenty
twenty one, the first two weeks, there were combined one
hundred and ten passing touchdowns twenty twenty two, one hundred
(21:41):
and five, twenty twenty three, eighty six, twenty twenty four,
sixty nine.
Speaker 3 (21:50):
Whoa stall of a day, Stana day outa day, scan
outa day. This is down on the New.
Speaker 2 (22:04):
Stat of Today, brought to you by Panini America, the
official trading cards of the Dan Patrick Show. Yeah, now
we have enough of a sample size that this could
be habit forming, that teams are running the ball more.
We're starting to see this, and I don't know if it.
You know, offenses take a little bit longer the passing
(22:27):
game takes a little bit longer. So I'm told that
defenses are usually ahead of offenses to start the season,
and maybe that these numbers will level off there. But
I do think there is a focus a little bit
more of a concentration on running the football this year.
Maybe it's only through the first couple of weeks as
you get your offense kind of rolling, but we are
(22:49):
seeing this, and I understand I've been saying this for years.
At some point somebody is going to have a counter
attack to everybody throwing the football, everybody having these quicker
edge rushers, that maybe we're just going to run the
football because the way these defenses are built, it's not
the monsters of the midway. And this is Harball, this
(23:13):
is Harball's philosophy. You're going to run the football, control
of the clock, and you're going to keep their offenses
off the field the way you beat Kansas City. You
keep Mahomes off the field. If you can run the football,
keep him off the field, you can beat them. But
how many teams are designed to be able to do that?
Speaker 12 (23:31):
Yes, Marv is the running back position the easiest to
transition from Kylason NFL I think like Ezekiel's lead the
league in rushing as a rookie Eric Dickison's second year.
Speaker 2 (23:46):
Well, I think it seems like you're asked to be
something different than you used to be. Nobody ever said, hey,
Zeke's got to catch seventy passes or you got to
be a really good blocker. It used to be the
running back was the focal point. He was getting the
ball thirty times. Knew he was getting it thirty times.
I never watched the Cleveland Browns with Jim Brown and
had them say, man, they're not using him out of
(24:08):
the backfield. It's we got to that point where Marshall
Falk that's the kind of running back you needed, or
Ricky Waters they changed the running back position or what
you're asking him to do, and then it just became
more pass happy. Is easier to protect your quarterback. The
rules favored you. Where are we going to run the football?
It's boring, and let's score. We want points. Fantasy Like,
(24:33):
I get all of that, but then you come back
to what is the core of winning championships? Can you
run the football when you need to and can you
stop somebody? That's what it comes down to. It feels
like every year I say that, can you stop somebody
when you need to? Can you get a tough one two,
three yards? It might come down to that. Regular season
(24:57):
postseason teams are built differently. We see this in college basketball,
you see that in the NBA, you see I mean
in all sports, baseball, you're built for the regular season,
and then you go to the postseason and you go,
do they have a number one starter?
Speaker 3 (25:13):
No, but they've got a lot of arms. I'd like
to having that.
Speaker 2 (25:16):
Number one starter if I'm going into the playoffs and
time and time again, or at least it has been,
that's how you win.
Speaker 12 (25:24):
Yes, Marvin So to get paid as a running back,
you really need to be an all purpose back, right Yeah,
not just an I formation back.
Speaker 2 (25:29):
Okay, yeah, But Baltimore brought in Derrick Henry. They didn't
bring him in to catch passes out of the backfield.
I'm still amazed that they don't run more and have
Lamar Jackson, you know, an option, either Derreck Henry or
Lamar Jackson. Even last night with that play with the
third down pass, I thought, Okay, Jalen hurts out, you know,
(25:53):
outside the pocket, and you have Saquon Barkley there, you
have to pick. You're gonna stop Jalen Hurts, You're gonna
stop Taquon Barkley, and we run the football and then
if you get down to fourth and one, you do
the you know, the push tush.
Speaker 3 (26:08):
That's what I thought was gonna happen.
Speaker 9 (26:10):
Yes, it does feel like one of those times where
somebody overthought things. It was like, everybody knows we're gonna
run it. That's why we're throwing.
Speaker 2 (26:19):
Yeah, well go back to Seattle in the Super Bowl.
Everybody knows Marshawn's getting it. No, we're going to fool everybody.
And we know how that ended. Did I call it
the push tush the y couch bush? It's okay, Yeah,
you're right, Tomato, tomato, you're pushing, pushing the toush or
a tush that's pushed, Yeah, push tush?
Speaker 3 (26:40):
Yeah, actually correct, Thank you. So what's the poll question
we're going.
Speaker 9 (26:45):
With, Well, we're going with that one to start, which
is the bigger loss?
Speaker 3 (26:51):
We could also put.
Speaker 9 (26:52):
In there maybe for a little later best landing spot
for Bryce Young oh Man Carolina in the field anywhere
Other than that, I think he's gonna play.
Speaker 2 (27:07):
This is gonna sound crazy, Yesterday might have been a
good day for Bryce Young because maybe you needed to
sit down, maybe you needed to learn on the job
from the sidelines. Here, you're not ready to go, the
team's not ready to go. And maybe we've said how
many teams, how many quarterbacks have we seen where it
(27:29):
didn't work out with the original team and then it
did work out with the next team or the third
team that they go to, And maybe that's the case
with Bryce Young. I've said it since he was being drafted.
I don't know if he can play. I saw him
at Alabama and he looked great, but there are a
lot of people who look great in college. I don't
(27:50):
know if Like, he's not a franchise quarterback, and there's
a difference. There are guys where you go, that's the franchise.
He's a quarterback, like CJ. Stroud's a franchise quarterback. There's
certain quarterbacks where you go, yeah, he's our quarterback. Like
I don't know if Drake May can play. I don't
know if he's a franchise quarterback. But I do like
(28:12):
what New England's doing because now he can watch and
now he can learn, and you know, is he going
to make rookie mistakes. Absolutely, they all do, no matter
how much you observe. But it feels like, why didn't
Carolina do with Bryce what New England's doing with Drake May.
(28:32):
Now you might say, well, Bryce number one overall pick,
we got to play him. Your fan base they want this.
I would too, but I do want to make sure
that he gets a chance to succeed. And I don't
know if Carolina really put him out there in a
position to succeed. It's like you know when you buy
(28:53):
a house at the height of the market, like you're
underwater already, and then you're trying to get out from
underthan and then you trade his best receiver, DJ Moore,
you don't have any draft capital, you still owe the
Bears his second round draft pick, Yes, Tod, Will we look.
Speaker 13 (29:14):
At Bryce Young any differently? If Dalton goes in there
and they're very similar results and he doesn't make them
that much better, and we say, oh, just because the
team is really bad, don't put it on Bryce Young soon?
Speaker 2 (29:24):
Well, no, you can put it on Bryce Young. I
mean this is eighteen games, like that's a sample size
that is enough for me to go He's just not
ready and Andy Dalton will play better at the position.
Andy will hang in there in the pocket, he'll take
the hit, you know, maybe make some plays there. But
he's thirty six. They made a mistake, plain and simple.
(29:51):
Made a mistake. If you go all in, you have
to get a CJ.
Speaker 3 (29:55):
Stroud. You can't go all in and get this end result.
Speaker 2 (29:59):
But it feels like this is a Bryce We have
some nice parting gifts for you, but we're gonna move
on from you eventually. And as far as where he
could land, God, when I saw him with his book
bag and it looked like if you said, oh, that's
somebody's son going last day of high school or walking
(30:19):
to college. Yeah, and then you go, that's Bryce Young.
And I know everybody says, well, you know, Drew Brees,
he made it work. Okay, Drew Brees is such an
anomaly at that position. And I mean it's I don't
put him in there in that category. And all well,
Russell Wilson, Okay, Russ is six feet tall, but he's
(30:43):
a lot bigger than Bryce Young. It's like every small quarterback, well,
if Drew Brees did it, there's no one. I mean,
Drew Brees crazy that he wasn't athletic as far as
beating you with his feet. He was in the pocket.
He ran a great offense at Purdue and he just
took that into the NFL. But Bryce Young and once again,
(31:05):
Drew did it at Purdue where he had to do
a little more, and you watch Bryce he's at Alabama.
That's why I always thought it's so hard to judge
Alabama quarterbacks. And even now I'm not all in on
Jalen Hurts. I think he has the potential to be great.
He makes me nervous sometimes I think he's not there yet.
(31:28):
He got his contract, but I don't look at him
as a franchise quarterback yet. But look, I can say
that about Justin Hurbert. I can say that about Trevor Lawrence.
Like we want to anoint them, but they're not there yet.
Joe Burrow's franchise quarterback, Mahomes franchise quarterback. Like there's certain
(31:50):
ones that you just go absolutely, but then there are
others where you're kind of like, I need to see
a little bit more here.
Speaker 12 (31:57):
Yes, yes, Mark, Well to you what put them in
the cat or you of being a franchise quarterback.
Speaker 3 (32:01):
I just think it's a when you see it, you
know it. That's all.
Speaker 2 (32:06):
When I just feel that way when I watch Burrow,
he just he looks like he's a franchise quarterback, acts
like a franchise quarterback. And I'm probably not being like
Kirk Cousins is not a franchise quarterback or Derek Carr
not a franchise quarterback. They're your quarterback, and they do
put up good numbers, but until you see that moment
(32:29):
where you go, yeah, that guy, and there are very
few of those.
Speaker 3 (32:34):
Bryce Young's just not.
Speaker 2 (32:35):
Ready for this, unfortunately, not ready for this, and you're
with a franchise that's trying to speed up the process,
and you got a new head coach there, and you got.
Speaker 3 (32:46):
An owner who is very impatient.
Speaker 5 (32:48):
Yeah, Pauling, Yeah, you're being kind to the owner by
saying that. I wonder if a team, if the Carolina Panthers,
let's say they morph into another mistake taking quarterback number one.
I wonder if another team looks at Bryce Young and
says we can buy him on the cheap.
Speaker 3 (33:03):
You know, well, DLOS got Trey Lance. Yeah, and Trey
Lance for a fourth round pick. But Trey Lance wasn't
ready for this, but.
Speaker 5 (33:11):
Like, if you're the Miami Dolphins and you can give
a third round draft pick for Bryce Young and put
him in your back pocket, or another team that has
quarterback wonky issues Bryce Young. Most of the money was
paid by the Carolina Panthers. He's relatively cheap the next
two seasons, and it's guaranteed on the contract.
Speaker 3 (33:29):
Yeah, somebody will somebody will bring him in, and.
Speaker 2 (33:34):
You know, I would love to see him be able
to play where he goes to the line of scrimmage
and he's not worried about getting hit like brock Purty
doesn't go to the line and go, oh my god,
who am I going to throw to?
Speaker 3 (33:49):
Or I got a run for my life.
Speaker 2 (33:50):
He goes there and he goes, I got Kyle Shanahan
in my ear. I got that guy. I got that guy.
I got Trent William like he didn't think about I
got to get rid of this ball. You can watch
Bryce Young and it feels like he goes a line.
Speaker 3 (34:04):
Of scrimmage and he's like, God, it's gonna.
Speaker 2 (34:08):
Hurt, all right, We'll take a break. Got her play
of the day coming up. Phone calls and later today
the mid month sept him VP Yes, it's back septem VP.

what thirty two seconds left? Jesse Bates? Come, what's up
with the interception? Ed Atlanta in the thick of the
night has stolen one from the Philadelphia Eagles.
Speaker 2 (35:09):

Thank you Tom. I believe that was the Falcons raad.
Thank you Tom.
Speaker 2 (35:47):
Fewest points per game through two weeks since twenty seventeen.
Fewest touchdowns per game since twenty seventeen. Most made field
goals in NFL history, twenty more than any other previous
two weeks of a season. Most made field goals of
fifty yards or more most in NFL history after two weeks,
(36:10):
thirteen more than any of the previous first two weeks
of the season. Second highest field goal percentage. They're over
ninety two percent, so second highest field goal percentage through
the first two weeks in NFL history.
Speaker 4 (36:26):
Stat of the day, stat of the day, that bust
stat of the day, stat of the day.
Speaker 3 (36:32):
Here it comes that one stat of the day.
Speaker 5 (36:38):
Yes, Paulie, I want to be the first show who
discusses this, is there any chance with fifty yard field
goals becoming the norm and not a big deal anymore,
and field goals becoming way easier, that the NFL Competition
Committee considers making the field.
Speaker 2 (36:54):
Goal tighter the goalpost tighter back to you. Well, they
did this with the extra point. The extra point nobody
watched it. At somebody scores touchdown, you go get a beer.
And the NFL is not big on formalities. That's why
they changed the kickoff. They want to do at least
have the possibility there. So I would I rule this
(37:16):
out that the kickers are becoming too good. No, I
mean you want to see touchdowns. You don't want to
see fifty yard field goals unless it's to win a game.
Speaker 13 (37:26):
Yes, Tom, what about the dynamic field goal where anything's
fifty yards or more four points instead of three four three?
Speaker 3 (37:35):
How about this?
Speaker 2 (37:36):
How about this twenty yarder, thirty yarder, forty yarder?
Speaker 3 (37:42):
Oh, like fifty yards? It moves in Yeah, like a
sliding door. Yes, how about that?
Speaker 13 (37:47):
I like that's a lot of fun.
Speaker 5 (37:50):
The little goal post guy is like cranking it.
Speaker 9 (37:53):
It should be a little more mini golfish. You know,
if you just had windmills swinging in front of it,
you hit that, you didn't make it right?
Speaker 3 (38:01):
I like that.
Speaker 2 (38:04):
Let me see Andrew and Washington, Good morning, Andrew thurd In, morning, Dan.
Speaker 3 (38:09):
Dannett, Thanks for taking my call.
Speaker 14 (38:11):
Yeah, it's a sad day in Carolina. The Bryce Young
be bench. Like you said, since the backpack day of
showing up at camp, he looked like the kid at camp,
not the franchise leader. We'll see David Tepper is still
in charge, so I don't expect much from my franchise.
But we'll see if they actually can do anything recover
from that horrible trade to even get the more horrible QB.
(38:32):
But I don't know if Bryce Young would be better
in a different system. I'd like to see if you
think he'd be good in the system. But I do
have two stats of the day from Monday Night last night.
One is Jalen Hurts had the most rushing yards eighty
five that he's ever had in a loss in NFL games.
And because yesterday this was a hot topic in QBR,
we know is the one measure of quarterbacks. Kirk Cousins
(38:54):
had his highest QBR rating of any Monday night football
game he's ever played in last night.
Speaker 4 (39:00):
Stat up the day start up the day, STATU the
day startup the day.
Speaker 2 (39:05):
Well, so that I would say how many Monday night
games has Kirk D.
Speaker 3 (39:09):
Cousins played in?
Speaker 2 (39:12):
And it might not me as impressive like, that's as
high as QBR out of four games on Monday Night.
But he did what you want him to do with
the game on the line, not one hundred percent. You've
already had people saying they should put in Michael Pennox
and Kirk Cousins with a big connection to Drake London. Yes, Paul,
would you like.
Speaker 5 (39:32):
To play the how many Monday Night football games has
Kirk Cousins played in his career game?
Speaker 2 (39:37):
Okay, because I have it ready, alrighty quickly around the room, Todd,
twenty three?
Speaker 3 (39:46):
Seaton, do you even know the question?
Speaker 13 (39:48):
I heard the question, but then then it fell out
of my mind. But I'm gonna stick with twenty four.
Speaker 3 (39:53):
What was the question?
Speaker 2 (39:57):
It was?
Speaker 3 (39:59):
Todd?
Speaker 1 (40:00):
I know you.
Speaker 3 (40:01):
Todd, you can just say you don't know because I
heard it slid.
Speaker 13 (40:05):
Out of my head as I hedd I'm having memory.
Speaker 3 (40:09):
You didn't hear the question?
Speaker 13 (40:11):
It was a Kirk Cousins.
Speaker 3 (40:11):
Wait, yes, but you didn't hear it.
Speaker 13 (40:14):
And no one will ever give it to me a
second time. So I have to guess a number.
Speaker 3 (40:17):
I'm sorry, I know you lied to me.
Speaker 13 (40:19):
It's either eleven or twenty three.
Speaker 2 (40:21):
Okay, all right, if you said, Hey, I was doing
something else here.
Speaker 13 (40:25):
Can you repeat the question many times and all kinds
of shows and programs, but maybe you know, can I
hear it?
Speaker 1 (40:31):
In the second?
Speaker 13 (40:33):
Can I hear the question?
Speaker 8 (40:34):
Yes?
Speaker 5 (40:34):
How many Monday night football games has Kirk Cousins played
in his career?
Speaker 3 (40:39):
I think I'm still comfortable with that.
Speaker 13 (40:40):
Twenty three?
Speaker 3 (40:41):
There you go. I love it seating. It's a good guess.
It's I didn't hear a part of it. I think
it's a great guest.
Speaker 9 (40:49):
I think I think twenty three is an incredibly high number.
Speaker 3 (40:53):
Incredibly I do too.
Speaker 9 (40:55):
Uh, but he does seem to I'm going to say
it does.
Speaker 3 (41:00):
All right, Marvin. Eight, I'm gonna say nine. Those are good.
Speaker 5 (41:06):
Kirk Cousins has played in fourteen oh one of that
football games, all right, and his career record after last
night is four and ten.
Speaker 2 (41:14):
Okay, all right, Primetime, Kurt, Kurt. I remember somebody in
the Washington media. They criticized me because I was calling
him Kirk Cousins, and then they said his name is
Kirk Cousins. So then I started calling him Kirk D.
Speaker 3 (41:35):
Cousins. It's phonetically challenging his name.
Speaker 2 (41:37):
Yes, but this was somebody in the media because I
was saying, there's some things going on with cousins and
his receivers and I mentioned it, and you know, far
be it from me to scoop the Washington media.
Speaker 9 (41:50):
Yes, see the Brussels sprouts. Brussels sprouts. Now I'll have
the Brussels sprouts.
Speaker 3 (41:57):
Yes, yes, tom My primetime games.
Speaker 13 (42:00):
Do you think Kirk played on My twenty three might
be right if you had Sundays and Thursdays?
Speaker 3 (42:05):
Can you repeat the question? Let it go,
