Speaker 1 (00:00):
You are listening to The Dan Patrick Show on Fox
Sports Radio Our.
Speaker 2 (00:05):
Two on this Tuesday, Dan and The Dan Nu's Dan
Patrick Show. Glad to have you on board. Coming up,
we'll talk to Sal Pallantonio covering the Eagles game last night,
The Fallout from the Drop by Saquon Barkley. If you're
just joining us, Saquon was going to join us. I
think most people thought that the Eagles were going to
win that game, favored by five and a half, had
(00:26):
the drop pass. He canceled the appearance. He did text
the show and say that he was sorry and that
he hoped to make it up to us, and we
appreciate that. Stat of the Day brought to you by
Panini America, the official trading cards of The Dan Patrick Show.
Ready to bring the big screen to your screen. It's
Ryan Gosling, Emily Blunt, Star and The Fall Guy. A
(00:49):
love letter to action movies and hardworking crew stunt people.
And it's The Fall Guy Extended cut now only on Peacock,
Easy on the Eyes and I'm not talking Emily Blunt.
Speaker 3 (01:02):
Yes, is that like an action comedy movie?
Speaker 2 (01:06):
Yeah?
Speaker 3 (01:06):
Is there a name for that, like there's rom coms?
Speaker 2 (01:10):
Yeah? Seems like it's so much an action comedy.
Speaker 3 (01:13):
You saw it, I didn't see it.
Speaker 4 (01:14):
Yeah, it could be an actuality.
Speaker 2 (01:17):
Thank you, Jad all Right eight seven seven three DP
show email address Dpadanpatrick dot com, Twitter handle a DP show.
Speaking of the drop by Saquon Barkley, he was asked
by many people the same question, probably over and over.
Here's Saquon after the loss, dropped the ball.
Speaker 5 (01:37):
My team now to day shown heff with the defensive imposition,
made that catch, came over, relaxed, came back to my
O habs and skta go back and good that's the word.
Speaker 2 (01:48):
Yeah, they're one of the better running teams in football.
He had had a pretty good night. I did think
that they were going to run the ball twice there
Atlanta had no timeouts and listening to the Manning cast
where Peyton Eli and Matt Ryan was the guest, all
three said that ball is not going in the air.
This is prior to the play, that ball is not
(02:09):
going into the air. In fact, I think Peyton was
asked do the Falcons get the ball back? And he said,
only if you put the ball in the air. And
I think you know now there's the drop. But I
think these three quarterbacks were all upset with the call
of a pass, you know, to Saquon Bartlett. Now, granted
(02:32):
he catches the ball, stays in bounds, gets the first down,
then the game is over. But what Peyton and Elion
Matt Ryan were saying, what if you don't catch the
ball and then you kick a field goal. I just
thought you got three yards to go. Let's take away
all of the time on the clock, no timeouts. Worst
(02:53):
case you have Kirk Cousins have to go ninety five
yards for a game winning touchdown. That's worst case scenario.
But give credit to the Falcons because Kirk Cousins takes
at the distance. He had this to say after the win.
Speaker 6 (03:10):
It's so important to find ways to win. And that's
how you put together a great season is you know,
when you have these games, it could go either way.
You find a way to have it break your way.
And that's the way this league is. And so when
we can find those inches, it can really change the
tail of the season. So it's cool making the long
extra point. It's our defense standing up at the end too.
And I've been a part of games where you go
(03:30):
down and score and then you walk out of here
with a loss because you miss that extra point and
you go to overtime or you don't get to stop
at the end. So it really does take everybody to
find a way to come out here with a win.
Speaker 2 (03:42):
It's not cool to kick a long extra point because
you need to kick that extra point and you had
to be backed up to what the forty two yard
line because Drake London was flagged for too much excessive
celebration there. Yeah, cool that it went in. Not cool
that you have to attend it there in that situation.
But the Eagles have dropped three of their last four
(04:04):
games at home. That's that's been a while since that's
happened for this team. And Nick Siriani's gonna have to
wear this as well. I know it's Sakwon Barkley, but
Nick Sirianni, the head coach, was kind of sprinkling the blame,
like it starts with the coaches and then it's everybody
else here. All you have to do is say you
(04:24):
know what, it's on me and you move on. The
last thing you want is this to get to the
locker room where all of a sudden, Nick Sirianni is
blaming the players just take the bullet, move on with it,
and you know you're already. It feels like on a
warm seat, warmer seat. I did have an NFL executive
(04:48):
tell me last night, This former NFL executive, He said,
I know that you bring up Bill Belichick's name as
maybe somebody who if it doesn't go well with Nick Sirianni.
He goes, I don't see the Eagles ever doing that,
because here's the trend now, these big personalities, like the owners,
GMS don't want these big personalities. They want to be
(05:11):
able to control. You know, factor this in Howie Roseman,
Great GM. He picked the assistant coaches for Nick Sirianni
this year. Normally the coach picks his assistant coaches offensive,
defensive coordinating. Now, all of a sudden, you lose that.
The gms, it feels like, are running the show. Here.
(05:32):
They're the you know, they're they're the puppet puppeteer. And
Nick Sirianni's like, who are my assistants? Well, here they are.
You're seeing this with Carolina Dave Canalis, he's in there.
The GM. Maybe the owner made the decision to ben
Rice Young. You're it feels like ownership. Even front office
(05:54):
execs are moving away from the big That guy is
going to run it himself. Now, I would think you
would still want Bill Belichick if this happens, to be
able to run his own shop there. But this former
executive said he sees it trending in a different way.
But it feels like you're bringing in these new coaches here,
(06:17):
whether it's in Seattle where I don't know. If you
know Mike McDonald is going to have full autonomy there,
I'm going to guess he doesn't because you have a
great GM, and then they're probably running more of what's
going on, running the team more than your head coach.
Is just feels like that now. I kind of pushed
back and said, well wait a minute. Chargers just hired
(06:38):
Harball and they go They had to because Harball will
write the ship there. It's not incumbent upon the GM
to do this or the owner. You gave Harball control,
but you gave him control and he's going to be
there for a while at least that's what you're planning on.
I don't know how long some of these coaches are
going to last. Most of them don't last more than
(06:59):
two years, and then they move on to another one.
I mean, Jerry Jones has been doing this famously for
decades now. It hasn't worked out because you didn't want
that big personality in there, because he didn't want another
Jimmy Johnson, even parcels. You would think you would want that,
but it feels like they don't want that. They want
(07:21):
to be in control. So that was what was told
to me last night, that if you could see this
with Bill Belichick taking over, and this former front office
exec said he didn't see that. He goes, that doesn't
mean Bill won't get a job. He said, I think
Bill Belichick is probably already putting a staff together now.
He said, what if you did this where you said
(07:44):
some of his assistant coaches in New England who weren't
coaching now when he reached out to Mike Rabel, bring
Mike Rabel in or Rabel may hold out and want
to be a head coach again. I'm guessing. But you
know the kind of things that are going on now
that you don't even think about because there's no openings yet.
(08:05):
But that was told to me last night after the
game with Nick Sirianni. I was texting with him and
I said, you know, Sirianni on the hot seat with this.
He goes, yes, but he's been on the hot seat.
He knows that he didn't even get to pick his coordinators.
But that's what the front office wanted. They're the ones
they you know, they're pulling the strings. Even at Carolina's
head coach, he says, Bryce Young is our quarterback. And
(08:29):
then it wasn't long after that where he says, Andy
Dalton gives us the best chance to win. So what
is it? That's because somebody upstairs said, hey, Bryce is
going to be benched. You got to go back and
tell the media Andy Dalton gives us the best chance
to win. Prime example, Young coach, we got it. Will
take over. Stat of the Day, brought to you by
(08:50):
Panini America, the official trading cards of the program. South
Palantonio will join us. Coming up and we'll check in
with the Carolina Panthers with Bryce Young being ben Andy Dalton.
Come on down, Charles in Hartford. Hi, Charles, what's on
your mind?
Speaker 7 (09:06):
Hey? How's it going today?
Speaker 8 (09:07):
Great?
Speaker 7 (09:08):
Having the ability to watch Jalen Hurts two weeks in
a row. I really think we have had that conversation
again while he's in the pocket, he's really struggling to
make his reads. I think a lot of the times
he's predetermined in his mind where he wants to put
the ball. Going back to Week one versus the Packers,
You're up five points with a chip shot field goal.
At the end of the game. You throw the ball
in the middle of the field and throw an interception
(09:30):
to Alexander because you're predetermined that ball is going to
Brown very next try. Once again, Brown's straight by. Alexander
does the same exact thing and gets bailed out. Last night,
all he needed was about fifteen to twenty five yards
for Jake Elliott to get a chance to win that game,
makes a rash decision, throws the ball downfield, came over.
Speaker 2 (09:53):
Well, you're paying him a lot of money. They better
be good. It's just you know, and he was wonderful
in Super Bowl. He was, But there are times when
I just don't have that confidence in Jalen Hurts. Don't
know him. I don't even know if he's been on
the show. But you know, my job is to a
(10:13):
set whether I like you or not. But like he
can be a B B plus level and that can
be good. Enough for the Eagles, But it's that it
comes down to a play. Can you make the play,
can you make the throw? And he's come up short
here recently. Tom in North Carolina.
Speaker 9 (10:32):
Hi, Tom, Well, Dan, I've been a Carolina Panthers. Well,
I've been a Carolina Panthers fan since the inception, So
it's kind of out of obligation the local team and
things like that. So hopefully you'll allow a small rant.
As far as the Panthers are concerned. I don't think
(10:55):
Bryce Young put up too much of a fuss knowing
he's going against Max Crosby and the Raiders. This week
they talked how many times he's been sacked. Also, I
don't think the quarterback is the only problem in Carolina.
Are the only the only player that they're missing. So
hopefully the the dysfunction doesn't keep going because you know,
(11:17):
in the beginning, you know, they started out as an
expansion team, they started out, you know, you know, a
couple of good seasons, almost already in the playoffs. So
the first four however many years he's the new owner's
been there, it just seems like it's been you know, tragic,
you know, disaster after disaster, missing CJ. Strout, so maybe
(11:38):
they're going to miss out on arch. Manning Seaton just said,
why why do they want to win? So it's hopefully
it's done. It's not foretelling for what's what's to come
for Panthers fans.
Speaker 2 (11:50):
Well, they've been on score seventy three to thirteen in
their first two games here. Bryce Young has eighteen starts,
they're two and sixteen. Since Tepper took over, they're thirty
one and seventy thirty one and seventy.
Speaker 10 (12:10):
Statu to day Statu to day status day Statu to
day Statu to day status day startup today, startup.
Speaker 2 (12:20):
Du stat of the day. Brought to you my Panini America.
You gotta be careful when you fall in love. Remember
when Mike Ditka fell in love Ricky Williams, Hey take
all my draft picks. I don't care. I love Ricky Williams.
They fell in love with Bryce Young. You gotta It's
(12:44):
one of those feelings where you go, I gotta, I
gotta make sure that we do all of the checks.
We gotta. We gotta make sure that this is right.
Speaker 11 (12:53):
Now.
Speaker 2 (12:53):
It goes back to it's such an inexact science trying
to take a quarterback, when do we take him? Who's
our coaches? Is there consistency with the offensive coordinator, consistency
with the head coach. Chances are, if you're getting a
really good quarterback, you've probably fired your coaching staff and
you moved on to a new one. What kind of
(13:14):
offense are you running? What kind of weapons do you have?
Like you got to have those things just to have
a chance. And I think the Bears did right by
Caleb Williams. You know when they drafted Roma Dunza. Give
him another weapon. He's got a couple of weapons there.
Speaker 12 (13:31):
C J.
Speaker 2 (13:31):
Stroud has some weapons with the Texans, Like you need that,
You need somebody to help you because you can't do
it on your own. In college, you feel like you can.
In the pros, you can't. And I think that's where
you looked at Carolina with Bryce Young. You love Bryce Young.
I'm sure he interviewed great. I'm sure he was a
wonderful person to sit down and talk. He probably rattled
(13:54):
off all kinds of play designs and was able to
break down everything. Can games on his own. No, that's
why you have to have an infrastructure there. And it
feels like they probably failed him certainly the first year,
and maybe he gets another chance there, but probably better
off elsewhere getting out of that organization. We'll talk to
(14:17):
South Palm Antonio. He'll join us. Coming up more phone
calls as well. Poll question Seaton for hour two is
going to be Yeah, we got up there right now.
Speaker 13 (14:26):
We started the day off with biggest loss debo for
the forty nine ers, Pacheco for the Chiefs, McCaffrey for
the forty nine ers, or Puka and the Rams. Right now,
McCaffrey in the forty nine ers. That's at about fifty
seven percent of the vote. That's not even close. We
also put up their best landing spot for Bryce Young.
We put up the Dolphins Raiders' Giant Rams. Right now,
(14:48):
the Dolphins have fifty two percent of the vote, followed
by the Rams. That's interesting, Okay, Rams being maybe a
little bit more of a long term project, or he
could sit behind somebody and then take over the reins.
Speaker 2 (14:59):
That might not be bad. Yeah, well you got both
of those receivers out with the Rams, so Matthew Stafford's
going to have to try to figure out how to
make some magic. Maybe they become more of a running team.
There got a couple of good running backs there.
Speaker 14 (15:15):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (15:15):
I once again, I don't know. I've said this all along.
I watched Bryce Young, I don't know if he can play.
I remember watching the Texas Alabama game and he single
handedly saved Alabama that day and I went, wow, that's magical.
But once again, you're outside of Tuscaloosa. It's a whole
(15:37):
different world out there. Let me take a break. Sal
Powell join us coming up, and we'll check in with
the Carolina Panthers a little bit later on. Quinn Yours
may play for Texas. I think nationally the national media
is hoping Arch Manning plays. I don't know if the
Texas media is saying, yeah, we'd like to see Arch
as well. But Quin yours first round draft pick, and
(16:01):
Iffy to play. Debo is out with a calf injury,
and the Dolphins have added quarterback Tyler Huntley. So a
few NFL moves there. We'll take a break back after this.

Hey, we're Cavino and Rich Fox Sports Radio every day

never have enough time to get to everything we want
to get to.
Speaker 16 (16:33):
And that's why we have a brand new podcast called
over Promised. You see, we're having so much fun in
our two hour show. We never get to everything, honestly,
because this guy is over promising things we never have
time for.
Speaker 1 (16:45):
Yeah, you blober li lame in me.
Speaker 15 (16:47):
Well, you know what it's called over promise. You should
be good at it because you've been over promising women
for years.
Speaker 16 (16:51):
Well, it's a Cavino and Rich after show, and we
want you to be a part of it. We're gonna
be talking sports, of course, but we're also gonna talk
life and relationships. And if it's I are arguing about
something or we didn't have enough time, it will continue
on our after show called over Promised.
Speaker 15 (17:05):
Well, if you don't get enough Covino and Rich, make
sure you check out over Promised and also Uncensored, by
the way, so maybe.
Speaker 2 (17:11):
We'll go at it even a little harder.
Speaker 15 (17:12):
It's gonna be the best after show podcast of all time.
Speaker 2 (17:15):
There you go, over Promising.
Speaker 16 (17:17):
Remember you could see it on YouTube, but definitely join
us listen to over Promised with Cavino and Rich on
the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts or wherever you get your podcasts.
Speaker 2 (17:27):
Before we get to sal Pallantonio The Mothership, here's Peyton
Eli and Matt Ryan on the Manning Cast reacting to
Saquon Barkley dropping the ball on third down.
Speaker 17 (17:40):
Oh hi know, Oh wow, they had it.
Speaker 18 (17:55):
He listened, Jalen watched what Matt Ryan said. He said,
I'm not in that play again. I'm gonna give him
the perfect throw front shoulder, like Matt said, get it
out in front.
Speaker 2 (18:08):
Wow.
Speaker 8 (18:08):
Wow.
Speaker 19 (18:09):
Why that's why I mean, that's why you don't throw.
It is why you don't throw. But oh, it was
a perfect call.
Speaker 2 (18:21):
It was. But all three quarterbacks said prior to the
play call, run the ball. The only way Atlanta gets
the ball back is if you put the ball in
the air. I thought they were gonna run twice. Atlanta
had no timeouts. Worst case scenario, Matt Ryan or Kirk
Cousins has ninety five yards to go for a game
winning score. Soal pal Antonio was there. ESPN National corresponded,
(18:46):
what did you think was gonna happen? Prior to the
third down?
Speaker 8 (18:49):
Call, soal well, I'm gonna give you actual words instead
of on a monopa. I'm throwing that out there from
my English teacher. Ooh ah, I love that. I was
about two minutes in. I was waiting for actual analysis
after he dropped the ball. But I thought they should
have run the ball. It's pretty clear. So let's look
(19:12):
at the play by play Dad, second and six at
the Atlanta thirteen. You bring in Johnson as the eligible tackle.
Barkley goes off left tackle, gains three yards. So the
last play that they ran as a run, they gained
three yards. Now it's third and three and Atlanta has
(19:34):
already just burned their last time outs. Third and three
from the ten. Remember your last running play game three
yards and you only need three. I think you got
to call a run play there. I really do. And
then if you don't get it, you run it again
on fourth down, because you know they've been pretty good
(19:57):
running the ball on fourth down. You know, tush, push, brotherly, shove,
whatever you want to call it. They were aggressive early
in the game on fourth down. Didn't get it, and
so I don't know why you wouldn't be aggressive there.
This is why you paid Saquon Barkley. I know he's
good out of the backfield. He does have some drops
(20:18):
in his career. But you load it up, you load
it up, and it doesn't really matter. You can't make
the excuse, well they were getting funky inside and loading
up between the tackle box. Just run it at them
and take the time off the clock. And if you
don't get it, like you said, now he's got to
go ninety yards with no timeouts. It's much different than
(20:39):
going seventy yards where you can spread it out and
get the ball out quickly, you can have some boot action,
you can move around in the pocket. When you're first
and ten from the ten, you have much less room
to maneuver. I think you know players are going to
drop passes, players are gonna fumble, players are going to throw.
(21:01):
Those are physical mistakes that you're you're gonna expect at
every level of football, but at the NFL level you
can have your coaches making mental mistakes like that.
Speaker 2 (21:14):
I think that there was part of the game that
I thought was a glaring issue with the Eagles. They
didn't put any pressure on Kirk Cousins, and Kirk Cousins
has no mobility, as you said, he showed you his
six inch scar from his surgery in the offseason, so
he doesn't have mobility. I don't know why they even
(21:35):
that last drive. They they hit him twice in the
game after what thirty one pass attempts. I mean, that's
inexcusable for an Eagles defensive line.
Speaker 8 (21:47):
Well, first of all, they don't really have a pass
rush right now, that's clear Rice Huff. They are trying
to play him on first and second down against the run,
and he's getting worn out. He's getting blown out. Post
game last night, a lot of the Equals players who
were on locally here were talking about Bryce Huff not
(22:11):
setting the edge getting blown out in run defense. So
he was never used like that in Robert Salad's defense
with the Jets, and now he's being asked to do that.
He's really being asked to do something that he's never
done in his career. The other thing is the Vic
Fangio system. You know it, well, Dan, he's going to
(22:33):
drop two safeties back, he's going to play you know,
cover underneath man's zone whatever it is, and then he's
going to rush. For most of the time in his career,
especially last year when he was in Miami. He was
in the bottom five of the NFL in calling blitzes.
(22:53):
But there. Bill Pollian once said to me, when he
would interview a defensive coordinator, he would say, show me
your third and sixth blitz in the fourth quarter. Show
up to me, what is it going to look like.
How are you going to get to the quarterback in
the critical moment of the game on third down, especially
(23:14):
when you're beyond the fifty in the fourth quarter and
they're driving to try to win the game. Show me
that blitz. And if they didn't have that blitz, he
wouldn't hire the guy.
Speaker 2 (23:26):
The Eagles upcoming schedule they're at New Orleans YEP, at
Tampa YEP. Bye week.
Speaker 8 (23:35):
Dan. They're looking at some two tough games. So let's
take New Orleans first. New Orleans has had a voodoo
on the Eagles for a while. You know that they've
had trouble going down there, even when they were in
the heyday of the post Super Bowl. Right after they
won the Super Bowl, they went down there and they
couldn't win and they got bounced out of the playoffs.
(23:58):
New Orleans has come in link at financial feel upset.
Then they've always had problems with Sean Payton. They've always
had problems with the New Orleans Saints. I'm just putting
it out there. That's a tough game. I just was
in Detroit and I watched Baker Mayfield go into Detroit
an eight point underdog, with his defense depleted, without his
(24:22):
starting right tackle, win that game. The Bucks are playing
with a lot of moxie. And if you're looking for
a team that can throw the ball to a lot
of different components, a lot of different options with Evans
and Godwin, that's a team that could give the Eagles
problems like they did last year. These are two tough games,
(24:43):
two tough games, and then you don't have Aj Brown,
You're best offensive player in these two games. He said
that last night the list assaulters, it's going to take
a couple of weeks, and boy, that was a wow.
That was a big wow. So these are two tough
games for this.
Speaker 2 (25:00):
Well, they could lose these two then you have a
bye week, which is the last thing that you would want.
And I don't know how tenuous this situation is with
Nick Sirianni, but I'm guessing that the seat will be warm.
But I don't know if They're an in season type
of organization. They would go, you know, we have to
(25:21):
make a change. I know it's only two games now,
we're projecting to four games in a bye week, but
once again, this is a team that should be competing
to go back to a Super Bowl.
Speaker 8 (25:32):
Man, this is philidelp rational here.
Speaker 2 (25:36):
Yeah, of course.
Speaker 8 (25:39):
We're not hot headed or mercurial here.
Speaker 9 (25:41):
Dan.
Speaker 14 (25:42):
No, you're not.
Speaker 2 (25:43):
No, you're not. Hey, I did, I did think of you.
We're talking to South pal Antonio, ESPN national correspondent covering
the NFL the Bryce Young situation. I go back to
draft night when you came on during the draft, even
before the draft, I think you said, whoever Carolina takes,
they are starting the season. And we were surprised that
(26:06):
they would make that declaration already without really seeing who
they have, you know, to support, if it was c J.
Stroud or Bryce Young. Your thoughts when you heard Bryce
Young was being benched.
Speaker 8 (26:20):
My thought was, you had c J. Stroud on your
racket and you should have taken him. It was something
that was discussed. There's no question about it, and you know, yeah,
this is what we do, your Monday morning quarterback. Big
decisions like this when you get it wrong at the
top of the draft with your quarterback, it sets you
(26:41):
back three to five years. It just does. Now, Andy
Dalton is serviceable in the interim if you can try
to fix Bryce Young. But I don't know if he
can play at the NFL level. And I said that
when he was drafted. I was very skeptical about it
because of his size, his ability to see over the rush,
(27:03):
his ability. You know, you have to create passing lanes
like Sean Payton did for Drew Brees. I mean, Saban
gave up on Brees in Miami because he didn't think
he was big enough. You know, obviously had that injury,
but still and Sean Payton designed something that turned him
into a Hall of Fame quarterback. And I'm not going
(27:23):
to compare Drew Brees to Bryce Young. But what I'm
saying is, like you said before, and I was listening
to you, you have to have everything in place for
a young quarterback. You have to have the right options
and components at the offensive line position and the wide
receiver position, something like what the Bears are doing with
Caleb Williams. And then coaching and design matters. They matter,
(27:49):
and so you have to have that, and now he's
on his second play caller with Dave Canalis, who did
a pretty good job with Baker Mayfield last year. I
don't know, I don't I don't see teams trading for
Bryce Young. I mean, what would you what would you
give up for Bryce Young?
Speaker 2 (28:09):
Well, Dallas Gate, what a fourth round pick for Trey Lance?
Speaker 8 (28:15):
Okay, you know Trey Lance is a different cat. Now.
You know, Trey Lance has got a big arm and
he's much bigger, faster, stronger by l.
Speaker 2 (28:27):
Wait, you like Trey Lance better than Bryce Young?
Speaker 8 (28:30):
Absolutely?
Speaker 2 (28:32):
Yes, Oh boy, that's a hot take.
Speaker 8 (28:37):
Well, I don't think it's I think it's pretty clear. Yeah.
I mean, Bryce Young needs a lot of coaching and
time to learn. You know, he's got to sit and learn,
and they've got to get stuff around him. But you know,
here's the thing, Dan, he got nine zero in two
teams in the NFL right now, including three teams that
(29:00):
were clearly expected to be playoff teams, the Rams, the Ravens,
and the Bengals. Last five years, teams that started oh
and two made the playoffs five percent of the time.
So Carolina's got to refigure things and figure out Okay,
what are we doing for next season? And there's some
(29:23):
other teams like that. I'm not clounting the Rams, Bengals
and Ravens in that category, but you know, it's hard
to go to the playoffs when you start oh and two,
and really really hard when you start oh to three.
Speaker 2 (29:37):
Great to talk to you again, Thanks for joining us, soum.
Speaker 9 (29:40):
Thank you.
Speaker 2 (29:40):
Dan at Sal Palantonio, ESPN national correspondent covers the NFL
for Sports Center, Sunday, NFL Countdown, NFL Live, and Fantasy Football. Now, Wow,
Trey Lance. Maybe somebody should trade for Trey Lan. Maybe
Carolina should trade for Trey Lance. Wow, didn't expect that.
(30:01):
Maybe the Dolphins? What do they do if? Depending on
what happens with Tua? Here?
Speaker 7 (30:07):
Uh?
Speaker 2 (30:08):
A couple of phone calls in here Alan Atlanta, Hey,
Well congratulations, Yes.
Speaker 14 (30:16):
Good morning Dan.
Speaker 20 (30:17):
Yesterday I was on cloud nine because you called me
funny half the time I call in. It's just to
make you guys laugh. I was awaited all day long,
dreading the game because I knew that the sports gods
couldn't give me two wins in a single day. Then
my nephew starts chiming in with hot fire like Oh,
(30:38):
the bad team from Pennsylvania beat you without a touchdown?
Speaker 8 (30:40):
What do you think the good team's gonna do?
Speaker 20 (30:43):
Then the game starts. All of the happiness and elation
throughout the day turns into just sweat and dread. I
literally in the third quarter had to take my smart
watch off because I thought it was gonna call me
an ambulance because I'm pretty sure my heart rate was
up in like the one fifth. Then Bejon gets stucked.
I'm sitting on the floor at the foot of my couch,
(31:06):
just dejected.
Speaker 2 (31:08):
Game's over.
Speaker 14 (31:09):
I'm upset. Then it all unfolds while I'm sitting there
clutching my now lucky Freddy, the Falcon stuffed animal, just
hoping for you like that Kirk to show up, and
he does, and I'm sunn I'm more stunned than the
Philly fans because I don't know how to react to this,
(31:29):
because as a Falcons fan, we haven't had this feeling.
Speaker 20 (31:32):
And I again can't remember how long I couldn't go
to bed.
Speaker 9 (31:35):
I was.
Speaker 20 (31:36):
I was freaking out. It was oh so happy.
Speaker 2 (31:39):
Well, congratulations, thank you all. Although I have a problem
with the Falcons road uniforms. Oh very.
Speaker 3 (31:49):
Can we do this now?
Speaker 2 (31:50):
When do you want to get it out of the way,
Because I got septeen VP coming up as well.
Speaker 13 (31:56):
And I don't know that I'm hating on them as
as much as you guys are. They didn't look like
they were finished. Yeah, it's like you paint three sides
of a house and then you forget to paint the
other side.
Speaker 2 (32:09):
Yes, marm.
Speaker 21 (32:11):
I'm just shaking my head still. Those things are terrible.
They need to go back to the throw back uniforms.
They're right around the one seed them in the Seahawks
and the Eagles. Eagles need to go back to their
original Kelly Green, Randall connehe and red white.
Speaker 2 (32:23):
Uniforms too, Yes, Todd.
Speaker 11 (32:24):
The helmet and logo should never be the same color.
Some of the college teams do that too. Just make
it even if you don't want to make it red
with the black logo. For the Falcons, you got to
split that up the color of the helmet and the logo.
Speaker 3 (32:34):
Yes, Paul, Yeah, the Falcons' current uniforms are not even bad.
Where they're ugly and they're kind of cool ugly or
you know, provocative ugly. They feel like unfinished, bland, uninspired
uniforms as stripes don't finish. They like tail off and weakness.
They look like an AI uniform that came out and
(32:54):
not complete. They're uninspired, not even interesting.
Speaker 2 (32:59):
Yeah, yeah, I don't know. I didn't react all that
negatively to them. Yeah, black on black is like the coolest. Yeah,
I am not big on it. Yeah, No, I need
a little pop in there, do you, Yeah, a little pop.
You need a little pop, yeah, yeah, just give me
(33:20):
a little contrast. Yeah, yes, At least.
Speaker 11 (33:25):
It's the actual colors of the Falcons. I'm like the
NBA where the Lakers could be wearing green or orange
from one game to the next, where they're just taking
it to a whole other level of.
Speaker 2 (33:33):
I don't I don't know if that's true.
Speaker 4 (33:35):
You haven't watched the NBA.
Speaker 11 (33:36):
Gause were like for many like which teams are playing
or at least one of the teams, Like what team
is that.
Speaker 2 (33:40):
The Lakers wear green? That would be a huge shift,
by the way, because they've worn like blue. That's why
I said that, that's not the case.
Speaker 4 (33:47):
They've worn blue.
Speaker 13 (33:50):
That's therd this third jersey that's in like a nice
Celtics green.
Speaker 2 (33:54):
Yeah, the Lakes, it's really nice. It's really cool. And
the blue is a throwback to George Miken and Minneapolis Lakers.
They were blue.
Speaker 11 (34:03):
I guess I'm debunked, but I all to off all
hut an NBA game, and I don't think I'm the
only one that feels that way.
Speaker 4 (34:08):
It's like, for a second, you're not show.
Speaker 2 (34:10):
I think I prefer you not listening. Twenty three all right,
when we come back SEPTEMVP back after this.
Speaker 1 (34:22):
Be sure to catch the live edition of The Dan
Patrick Show weekdays at nine am Eastern six am Pacific
on Fox Sports Radio and the iHeartRadio app.
Speaker 2 (34:32):
A time honored tradition. Maybe it goes back a year.
I don't know, two years, but time honored tradition the
mid month SEPTEMVP. So two weeks from now, it's the SEPTEMVP,
but we're going to do the mid month septemb VP.
This is our heisman tracker of sorts with the NFL.
(34:54):
So we go round the room the September mid September
MVP or the septem VP. Todd, I'll start with you.
Speaker 4 (35:02):
I have co MVPs.
Speaker 2 (35:04):
If you may, I'm gonna let you have two. I
don't like doing that that. Well, Okay, wait minute, can
you have co m vps for the mid SEPTEMVP.
Speaker 3 (35:16):
As there are no rules whatsoever. I think it's your call, Todd.
Speaker 2 (35:24):
I'm gonna I'm gonna let you go last here. Wow,
I just I want to have one person as your SEPTEMBP.
Speaker 4 (35:34):
I could give you one.
Speaker 2 (35:35):
I mean, you could have others in consideration.
Speaker 4 (35:39):
I could, I could pick one just ahead of the other.
Speaker 2 (35:41):
Okay, then let's do that.
Speaker 4 (35:43):
And I'm gonna go with Saints quarterback Derek Carr.
Speaker 2 (35:46):
Okay? And who else was in consideration?
Speaker 4 (35:48):
I had Sam Donald Donald? Okay, surprising what Minnesota is doing?
Speaker 2 (35:53):
Okay? I don't know why you had to sound like
Linda Cohane.
Speaker 4 (35:55):
Hey, you give Sam Donald some respect.
Speaker 2 (35:58):
It's me Linda.
Speaker 4 (35:59):
Let's talk angers hockey.
Speaker 2 (36:00):
What seating, Chippindale's uh cheating seating? What's the next gig
you got lined up? Yeah? AnyWho? Okay, the story for
the last last show? Yeah, final show story?
Speaker 14 (36:18):
Right there?
Speaker 2 (36:19):
Here we go.
Speaker 5 (36:19):
What do you mean?
Speaker 13 (36:20):
Well, it feels weird now since Todd stole my bit,
But I have co MVPs.
Speaker 3 (36:27):
What to be fair seating? In the break when we
were chopping this up, go I'm gonna go co MVPs.
Speaker 4 (36:32):
He did say that that I thought we were like, wait,
it was my twist.
Speaker 2 (36:35):
I thought it was it would be.
Speaker 4 (36:36):
Fun if we all had co MVPs. That's what I
thought was.
Speaker 2 (36:39):
So you jumped on top of that because it was fine.
Speaker 4 (36:41):
I was playing along with the bit, thinking that we
were all going to.
Speaker 2 (36:43):
Give a twenty three all right, go ahead seating.
Speaker 13 (36:46):
Not only do I have CO m vps, but they're
both coming from the NFC South.
Speaker 2 (36:50):
Okay. One of them also is Derek Carr.
Speaker 13 (36:53):
Okay, they both have five touchdowns and one interception current
Baker Mayfield Junior. The third let's go. Hmm, My CO
MVP is a Derek Carr. That's the CO mid Month
September VP. Would have been a lot cooler if I
had gone first. I guess that would have been funnier.
I think Todd said that it kind of sucks. He
took your twist, Marvin, I also have CO you know what,
(37:20):
go ahead, I don't care, go ahead co vps.
Speaker 21 (37:23):
Yeah, Derek Carr obviously going to Canton.
Speaker 2 (37:26):
Yeah. And then second JK. Dobbins, what a pole you
stole that?
Speaker 3 (37:35):
Pauling As I always go last. I get the brunts
of this. I was gonna have a triumvirate mid mid
September septem vps. Okay, I'm gonna go with JK. Dobbins
of the Chargers. I barely even knew that he was
on their roster two months ago. He is leading the
league in rushing his He's got two hundred and sixty
(37:56):
six yards rushing and he's averaging nine point nine to carry.
Speaker 2 (38:00):
That's good.
Speaker 3 (38:01):
I don't know the rules, but that's the or the records.
That seems high.
Speaker 2 (38:04):
Yeah, seems like he's gonna rush for two thousand yards,
right JK. Dobbins.
Speaker 3 (38:09):
But at the end of the month, we'll.
Speaker 2 (38:11):
Look back at these anybody else in there.
Speaker 3 (38:13):
I had on my mid month Septem VP watch list.
I had Aiden Hutchinson of the Lions. He is literally
living in the other teams back. Yes Todd I had.
Speaker 11 (38:24):
Put down also as also Ran Marvin Harrison, Junior, Nicocollins,
Josh Jacobs.
Speaker 2 (38:31):
That's that's your watch list.
Speaker 4 (38:33):
Guys that can do something.
Speaker 11 (38:34):
They've already done something, but they could do even more
in the second half to win the full September Award.
Speaker 2 (38:39):
I'm gonna give it to Josh Allen. Okay, how about that? Okay,
he's gonna win an MVP one of these days, one
of these days.
Speaker 3 (38:49):
Yes, Paul, with your permission, can we go to like
a local trophy store and get a septem VP trophy
and actually present it to one of these gentlemen? People
love winning prizes, especially in September.
Speaker 2 (39:02):
Yeah. Sure, you know, I'll send a big german out.
We'll get the budget at what forty bucks? Yeah, no,
let's cap it out one hundred. You can get a
pretty good trophy for like a hundred bud. I wouldn't know. Yeah,
it's true. Stephanie in Cincinnati, Hi, Steph, what's on your
mind today?
Speaker 12 (39:22):
Thanks for taking my call. This is wedding loss here
on Sunday in Cincinnati. But I'm calling to my boyfriend Brian,
who is a longtime listener at Big Danniear's Dan. He
turns thirty seven today. I bought him a second hand
trigger for his birthday. But the zing on the cake
was being here would be hearing happy birthday from you.
Speaker 2 (39:39):
And his name is Brian and he's thirty seven.
Speaker 12 (39:42):
That's correct.
Speaker 2 (39:44):
You sound really serious, Stephanie, Like, let's relax it was
a tough loss. I thought the Bengals were the better team.
It's okay, okay, you got to get Tea Higgins back
in there, make sure Jamar Chase doesn't go off the
rails again. But uh, let's be in a good mood
later today for Brian's thirty seventh birthday. Okay, planning on it.
(40:07):
Thank you. Hey, honey, I'm home. Yeah, great, happy birthday,
Happy birthday, happy, all right, got stuff to do, Happy birthday.
It's not going home. I'm moping, thank you, Steph. Yeah, Steph,
(40:31):
that didn't sound good. It's his birthday. Yeah, very inconvenient
for me.
Speaker 4 (40:36):
And it's his birthday.
Speaker 13 (40:37):
Another one of those birthday holds for forty five minutes,
trying to do this. Yeah, wish Yeah, I got him
a used trigger.
Speaker 4 (40:44):
Not even a milestone thirty seven.
Speaker 8 (40:45):
Which.
Speaker 3 (40:47):
God number.
Speaker 2 (40:49):
If we're celebrating thirty seven, lots of people.
Speaker 3 (40:52):
Make it for thirty seven.
Speaker 2 (40:53):
Yeah, what's the big deal. He just lost his stupid birthday. Hi, honey,
i'm home. Happy birthday.
Speaker 4 (41:03):
We're not the garbage for out piling up.
Speaker 2 (41:07):
That's great, all Stephanie. I feel bad for Brian later
in life if he's still with Stephanie because the birthdays diminish,
you know, the meeting they they're not. It's like, oh,
oh that's right, your birthday, Yes, Marvin.
Speaker 4 (41:22):
I just love Oh I'm planning on it.
Speaker 2 (41:27):
Oh, we're gonna check in with my Carolina Panthers coming up.
I'm going to adopt him. Nobody else wants them. Stat
of the Day has always brought you by Panini America,
the official trading cards of this program. More phone calls
coming up. Final Hour Tuesday coming up.
