(01:10):
play of the day, stat of the day, all of
that forthcoming. Recapping a doubleheader last night, Bills embarrassed the
Jags and it says a lot about both of these teams.
Four touchdowns for Josh Allen, Commanders beat Cincinnati in Cincinnati,
Jaden Daniels has as close to a perfect game as
you can possibly have without having a perfect game. Also,
(01:31):
the Oakland a Zonner apologizes to fans on the way out.
We'll talk a little bit more about that as well.
Let me start with the football the Bills. Let me
start with Josh Allen. Josh Allen. Now, the Bills didn't
have a lot of people thinking they were going to
go to the Super Bowl. The odds were not in
their favor as they have been in previous years. But
the odds were in favor of Josh Allen winning the
(01:53):
MVP more of that than them making a Super Bowl run.
It might be a combination of both, because Josh Allen
was wonderful, He's been wonderful, and they have less talent
or the appearance of less talent than they have in
previous years. Josh Allen is taking matters into his own
hands and look wonderful last night. On the flip side,
(02:13):
you have the Jags. The Jags have been bad. They've
been bad this year, they were bad at the end
of last year, and here they are winless. Now they
do have games. They got the Texans, Colts, Bears. You
know they go to London here, but you get the
feeling Doug Peterson is on a seat that's a little
warmer than maybe we thought. I thought the Jags were
(02:35):
going to be the team to beat in their division.
Now they might be, But what I saw last night
there was no pulse. It was over and it was
over quickly. And as far as the Bills being undefeated,
they got the Ravens, they got the Texans, they got
the Jets coming up. But they look like they know
exactly who they are, at least for the time being.
(02:55):
Here's Josh Allen after the win last night.
Speaker 3 (03:00):
Want one game at a time.
Speaker 4 (03:01):
They don't win, you don't win a Super Bowl, get
in the playoffs with three games, and I think this
team understands that. Like I said, we'll watch this film
and put this behind us as quickly as we can.
And you know, like I said, we have a really
good team that we're going into and you know we
gotta be ready.
Speaker 2 (03:18):
Yeah, and I know what he's saying, Hey easy here.
You know we are undefeated one game at a time.
I know we in the media don't like that. We
want something that has a little more splash, like, hey,
we're the team to beat in this division, or don't
rule us out going to the super Bowl. That's not happening.
They've learned their lesson. But back to Jacksonville. You next up,
they host the Colts, then they have the two game
(03:40):
trip to London for games against the Bears and the Patriots.
They could win all three, but if they don't, there's
no bye week after the game seven week seven game
at Wembley Stadium. So if Doug Peterson doesn't turn things around,
that might be maybe something you circle on your calendar there.
(04:01):
I keep waiting for something to happen with Jacksonville. I
keep waiting for something to happen with Trevor Lawrence. It's
only three games if you look at this year, but
if I go back to last year, I mean they've
lost they were eight and three. In twenty twenty three,
they started out eight and three. They've lost eight of
their last nine games. You're zero to three this season
(04:22):
and you just lost by thirty seven points to the Bills.
The seat is warm and getting a little hotter day
by day. The other game, you saw Jaden Daniels coming
out party. Now this is a one o'clock game against
the Bengals on a Sunday. Okay, you probably look at
the highlights and go, all right, Commanders, go get them,
(04:43):
all right, little spunky guys there, Jaden Daniels.
Speaker 5 (04:46):
Yeah, that's right, LSU.
Speaker 2 (04:49):
The fact that you had LSU versus LSU. It was
Joe Burrow against Jaden Daniels, and they were both great.
In fact, here's Dan Quinn, the coach of the Commander
is talking about his quarterback.
Speaker 6 (05:02):
He's a really cool customer and he's got like real
poise about him. I thought, going in, we knew the
importance of the ball and uh you know the decision
making for that. We just couldn't give them short fields
and chances to go. So his ability to know when
to when not to when to make a play with
his legs, I thought, we've seen a lot of this
at practice and now it's carrying over into the games
(05:24):
where the decision making sliding, going taking your shot. But
I thought it was a really strong performance tonight by him.
Speaker 2 (05:31):
He did take a pop, he took one big hit
and I'm going, you've got to learn this hit in college.
But other than that, I mean, he's fun to watch.
And I've said it before that you know you can
see some RG three in him and hopefully he doesn't
run the way RG three did taking on contact, but
he's fun. Terry McLaurin is the rod Tidwell if you're
(05:51):
if you're if you're a fan of Jerry maguire and
Cuba Gooding Junior the third's role there. It's almost like
Terry McLaurin, you watch me going okay, all right, you know,
you don't talk about him. He's a third round draft
pick out of Ohio State, but he was more of
a kick returner I think in college, and then they
he's a guy that you if you watch their games,
(06:13):
you'll go, okay, be pretty good. And so we liken
him to rod Tidwell Cuba Goodings character with Jerry Maguire.
He was fun last night. But this is where you
look at the Bengals, at the Panthers and the new
and improved Panthers with the former Bengal Andy Dalton quarterbacking them.
Then you got the Ravens. Then you got at the Giants,
(06:37):
the new and improved Giants. But the Bengals. I don't
get this. Hey, they normally get off to a slow start.
If I'm a Bengal fan. Yeah, okay, we know we do.
How about we fix this. It's not like Eah, that's
just what happens when you're a Bengal fan. We get
off to a slow start. That's not the excuse that
I want. Here's Joe Burrow after the loss last night.
Speaker 7 (07:00):
They've played great on offense to the Jayden played unbelievable.
Speaker 3 (07:03):
Now, we had our opportunities and didn't cash in on them.
Speaker 7 (07:07):
So that's been the common denominator from the first three weeks.
Speaker 3 (07:11):
We've had opportunities and didn't didn't cash in on those.
Speaker 7 (07:15):
So whatever we got to do to get better this
week so we can come back on Sunday and execute
in the spots and get better in the spots that
we need to is what.
Speaker 5 (07:23):
We're gonna do.
Speaker 2 (07:25):
They have lost their swag, they have lost their swag
big time. So they're at the Panthers, Ravens, and at
the Giants. As for the Commanders, they're at the Cardinals,
they got the Browns and at the Ravens. Also, the
Bengals have given up receiving touchdowns to offensive linemen and
consecutive games as random.
Speaker 5 (07:44):
It is random.
Speaker 2 (07:45):
So I was curious how many teams have given up
touchdowns to offensive linemen in NFL history, and back to
back games. It's happened five times since nineteen forty three. Okay,
you know that that might be If I'm the Bengals
(08:06):
defensive coordinator, I might go, h hey, let's keep an
eye on that tackle here down by the gold One.
Chances are they've spotted our weakness in our defense.
Speaker 8 (08:15):
Yes, Paulie, that's what I thought. Things were going well
for the Commanders. When you could call a play for
a tackle, that means you're pretty comfortable how the game
is going.
Speaker 5 (08:24):
Oh, you know what, I buried the lead today. I did.
Came in this morning. First thing I said was, Paulie,
happy birthday. Let's go around the room here, happy.
Speaker 3 (08:38):
Perfect, Let's go again.
Speaker 2 (08:43):
Paulie says he's going to embrace this. Why not instead
of normally Paulie will brush it off. When it's his birthday,
you go, yeah, okay, thanks, but not today he's embracing it.
Speaker 5 (08:52):
Not this year, you're embracing it. That's right, full hug.
Speaker 2 (08:55):
Okay, all right, Well, I think everybody who calls should
sing happy birthday to you, and.
Speaker 5 (08:59):
I into that that much. Oh you detO it?
Speaker 9 (09:03):
Okay, So definitely don't call in and wish paul a
very as happy birthday. Please do not do that, Oh buddy,
please do that. What's the poll question? First hour? And
then uh, we'll have Saquon Barkley Johnnies coming up. I
would start my football team with dot dot dot Okay,
Rockbirdie obviously, uh, Jalen Hurts justin Herbert, Joe Burrow.
Speaker 5 (09:28):
Jaden Daniels, yes, Paul.
Speaker 8 (09:30):
So this poll question is to gauge the reaction slash
overaction to Jaden daniels monstrous game.
Speaker 2 (09:38):
Okay, this morning, I would just ask the following, if
you could redraft this draft, would the Bears want Jaden
Daniels instead of Caleb Williams.
Speaker 5 (09:50):
I'd be curious about.
Speaker 2 (09:51):
I know we're only three games in, but this is
how we overreact to a situation like this, Jaden Daniels
looks a little further along than Caleb Williams.
Speaker 5 (10:00):
But it's only three games. I get that.
Speaker 2 (10:02):
But this is how we approach things of let's overreact
Jayden Daniels, he's going to be the now he is
the favorite for the offensive Rookie of the Year. Then
it's Malik Neighbors, Marvin Harrison Junior the third than Caleb Williams.
Speaker 9 (10:15):
Yes see, Jayden Daniels not being able to or not
being asked to throw the ball one hundred and fifty
times a game is making him look a lot better
than Caleb Williams's right now.
Speaker 2 (10:26):
Okay, well, it feels like Caleb's trying to make something
happen behind an offensive line that's not very good. But
we're seeing the Commanders control the ball like they have
these extended drives that result in either touchdowns or field goals.
They did this against the Giants, they did this against
the Bengals. The only time they were stopped, they would
(10:47):
kneel down at the end of the half or at
the end of the game. That's the only way you
stopped them.
Speaker 10 (10:53):
Yes, Marv, and I think Cliff Kingsbury is a big
part of Jade Dam's success because he plays his strength
and he comes from a college football background, so he
helps him out. I just never understand, oh, he's not
playing he's playing a college a college system.
Speaker 5 (11:07):
WHOA, yeah, why not? Yeah, it was nice that.
Speaker 2 (11:10):
I think it was one of those on that's right,
That's where Cliff ended up. And you know, if it
works out great. So far it has. In three career starts,
Jayden Daniels has two games where his team scored on
every drive, every drive. Now you take away Neil downs
every drive. Tom Brady had one game in his career
over three hundred starts. Drew Brees one game like this
(11:34):
in two hundred and eighty six career starts. Aaron Rodgers
one game in two hundred and twenty seven career starts.
Patrick Mahomes no such games in so far ninety nine starts.
He's doing some pretty amazing things here, and I know
it's a small sample size, but it was fun to
watch him last night. I still go back to the
teams that lost with Jacksonville, You're going, how does this end?
(12:00):
And then Cincinnati zero to three, and here we go again.
They have way too much talent if I would have
said to you that Joe Burrow's going to have his
numbers last night, Jamar Chase is going to have his numbers,
and you go, all right, they're playing at home.
Speaker 5 (12:14):
They're going to win this game. The defense is the issue.
Speaker 2 (12:19):
If I'm looking at that, the defense has not been good,
and I think that's where now you put even more
pressure on the offense.
Speaker 8 (12:27):
Yes, Paulin, you could probably make the case in the
past decade. I don't know if the Commanders have had
a better night. You know, National TV, you kick your
old owner. That was just a mess? Was that a
year and a half ago they had Daniel Snyder. I mean,
they don't have very many good days down there Washington
with football. This just feels great, Yeah, it does.
Speaker 2 (12:46):
Yeah, and uh, it just feels like they they're kind
of getting out from underneath that dark cloud. I'm looking
at over unders this season. This updated after last night's
games with DraftKings. The Commander's over under seven and a half.
All right, that's respectable. The Bengals is eight and a half,
and I thought the Bengals were would be a Super
(13:07):
Bowl contender. The Buffalo Bills, they're over unders. Improved just
a little bit, and let's see the Jags over under
six and a half, Houston, we have a problem six
and a half. That might be hard for somebody to
(13:27):
keep a job if you end up with six or
seven wins with all that talent, the money you gave
Trevor Lawrence. We certainly don't put him under the microscope
the way we do other quarterbacks. And a lot of
that has to do with letting you behind the curtain.
The Jags don't bring about ratings. Your talk shows don't
talk about the Jags, and that's probably why they sort
(13:49):
of are under the radar. If Trevor Lawrence played in
Philadelphia or Chicago or La the Denver, Dallas, then people
would talk about him. He'd be under the microscope more
than he is. Yes, Tom, If the Jaguars go just
five hundred the rest of the way, they'll still end
up with double digit losses after that's done.
Speaker 5 (14:06):
Yeah, it's putting it right. Thanks Coect, Thank you for
doing the math there. Appreciate that. All right, let me
take a break.
Speaker 2 (14:12):
Just getting started here and Saquon Barkley will join us.

Speaker 5 (14:53):
He's back.
Speaker 2 (14:54):
He's back better than ever as opposed to last Tuesday
when he wasn't able tojoin us. Saquon Barkley the Eagles
joining us on the program.
Speaker 5 (15:03):
Give me the.
Speaker 2 (15:04):
Difference in morale, how you're feeling is opposed this Tuesday
is opposed to last Tuesday.
Speaker 11 (15:11):
Yeah, I mean, Victory Mondays are definitely a lot better.
But for me to be honest, I've been something that
I've been wanting to focus on this season, you know,
work on my trainers and work or what.
Speaker 3 (15:21):
Every one of my.
Speaker 11 (15:21):
Mentors is not really getting too caught up in the
results and just fall in love with the process. So
week to WEEKD just being consistent in that, and if
I'm able to stay more consistent, I'm gonna have, you know,
gain more games like this week rather than a loss.
Speaker 5 (15:38):
How long does that lost stay with you?
Speaker 11 (15:41):
Uh, it's probably you know, it's definitely a little bit
more difficult when you know there's usually three to four
plays a game that I want to lose your game,
and when you're part of that reason sticks with you
a little longer. But I kind of just had a
nice little hour ride back home because the traffic after
the game. You know, went to sleep well up, watch film,
(16:01):
watch the play and condage put in the past.
Speaker 3 (16:03):
That's the beauty of the NFL.
Speaker 2 (16:04):
Uh.
Speaker 3 (16:05):
You know you got this.
Speaker 11 (16:07):
We had to go to New Orleans Saints, uh right away,
so you couldn't really you know, harp on it too much.
Speaker 3 (16:12):
But learn from mistakes, move on from him.
Speaker 5 (16:16):
What was film session?
Speaker 3 (16:17):
Like?
Speaker 11 (16:18):
I mean, when you really break it down, I probably
had a better game, not statistically, uh against Atlanta than
I had this week against Saints, but just one play.
You know, I was assisting that whole game and I
just relaxed in a big moment and you know, dropped
the ball.
Speaker 2 (16:38):
But then you get the tight game against New Orleans,
do you say anything like, what's the huddle like with
the game on the line, who's talking other than Jalen?
Speaker 3 (16:50):
All of us? You know, all of us.
Speaker 11 (16:51):
I think that's the beauty of the team. We've got
a lot of you know, captains and leaders on this team,
and that moment, you know, I can remember in the
huddle right before that two minute drive, you all looking
at each other just saying, no matter what final way,
just continue to believe in each other and it'll go
down and drive and put points on the board. And
Dallas came up big for us on that drives.
Speaker 2 (17:11):
Can you lobby for the ball like receivers do this
all the time? Can you go back and say either
to offensive coaches or quarterback that give me the ball.
Speaker 3 (17:22):
Oh yeah.
Speaker 11 (17:23):
The beauty of having Kellen on the sideline is, you know,
he has a better feel for the game.
Speaker 3 (17:28):
He can he can get a feel for the game.
Speaker 11 (17:30):
So sometimes you know you're in the game and you're
getting that that zone and you're flown right, you know,
you can look to the sideline or when you're over there,
you can let them know.
Speaker 3 (17:38):
Like this is what I see this is what I
like and this is what I don't like.
Speaker 11 (17:41):
You gonna have those conversations and it can get changed.
Speaker 2 (17:44):
Right there is the running game back, Like, I don't
want to overreact to this, but it certainly feels like
teams are running the ball a little bit more through
three weeks.
Speaker 3 (17:53):
Uh yeah, I would say so.
Speaker 11 (17:55):
I'm not trying to overreact to it either. But you
see a lot of backs, you know, having a lot
of great games. You know, that's just the nature of
the game. You're paying a lot of money to these
quarterbacks and to these wide receivers. So defense got to
come up with, you know, game plans and schemes to
make sure you don't throw the ball around.
Speaker 3 (18:12):
And you know, we have all that. We have great receivers,
great tight.
Speaker 11 (18:16):
Ends, great lineman and I believe I'm a I'm a
pretty decent back, and we have a great quarterback. So
we haven't been, you know, put it all together yet.
So when we put it all together, we're gonna be
a art team.
Speaker 3 (18:25):
Stop.
Speaker 6 (18:26):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (18:26):
But I don't understand this that the running back got
kicked to the curb. Everybody else got paid and running
backs didn't like you were you were like scratching and
clawing just to get you know, a million dollars more whatever.
It was like it felt like you're almost begging for
people to pay you what you think you're worth that.
(18:47):
What was the process like going through that.
Speaker 3 (18:50):
I think it's just the timing.
Speaker 11 (18:51):
You know, it's just bad timing, especially for me when
when it was time for me to get paid. But
it's it's you know, everyone all into analytics and stats
and this and that.
Speaker 3 (19:03):
And you know, if you look at the numbers of
what's the.
Speaker 11 (19:05):
Highest rusher that was paid the most in the Super Bowl,
and you know, the quarterbacks and obviously the quarterbacks is
the one that fuels it.
Speaker 3 (19:12):
And you can.
Speaker 11 (19:12):
Get a lot of these great backs and later rounds
and you know, use them for three years and then
continue to have that. But you know, I think that's
just something that people just make up. It's it's not
really me. I think one of the better quarterbacks in
the NFL right now is bro Perty shot out to him.
You know, obviously gonna have a be sposarship together. But
he's he was the last pick of the draft, you
(19:34):
know what I mean. He was the last pick of
the draft, and U NFC Championship game to get before
Super Bowl game last year. So you know, it's just everything.
It's kind of just what they want the motive to be.
But I'm just blessing, you know, happy for the opportunity
that I have right now.
Speaker 2 (19:51):
You should go to Applebee's full uniform, just walk in,
sit down, eye black helmet on, just place an order,
just sit down.
Speaker 11 (20:00):
I think I should, and especially get to fifty percent
bonus wings on what they have going on right now.
So and if I go on a cheat that get
my favorite triple with chocolate melkdown cake.
Speaker 5 (20:12):
We've been doing this. I've been doing this a long time.
Speaker 2 (20:14):
It's very rare when somebody reaches out and sends a
personal note a text to say I'm sorry I can't
join you. I have great respect for you and certainly
appreciated you doing that. You didn't have to. I did
agree that you shouldn't have come on after that loss.
It wouldn't have been a good look for you, but
you know you had a sponsorship there. But thank you
for sending the text to the show. I really appreciate that.
Speaker 11 (20:37):
Yeah, of course, I felt like that was the right
thing to do, and I saw what you put out
there and I agree to I don't think more so
of not being a good look for me, because at
the end of the day, I'm a big boy. I
get paid a lot of money, and that happens when
when you're making mistakes or you let a team down.
Speaker 3 (20:52):
You got to face those questions.
Speaker 11 (20:53):
And I did that after the game, and to be honest,
throughout the whole week leading up to the Saints. But
I definitely felt like it took off a lot of
you know, the focus on you know, the sponsor and
Applebee's and you know, the the official bar and grill
of the NFL, and I said, all this wins by
the way, But yeah, but for me, I just felt
(21:15):
that was.
Speaker 3 (21:16):
The right thing to do.
Speaker 11 (21:16):
And you know, being a big fan of your show,
and obviously you know, talking to you and send down
with you and you know, kind of being mentored and
gave me a lot of great advice.
Speaker 3 (21:23):
I fel that was the right thing to do, all right.
Speaker 2 (21:25):
If you if you need advice to go into this
business one day, my advice would be to get into
the business quicker while you're still playing. I think that's
really important to get get some reps here, you know,
learn learn how to ask questions or if you're going
to be just an analyst, watch analysts certain analysts and
say all right, I'm gonna pattern myself. But if this
(21:47):
is what you want to do, start working on that now.
As I told you when I think I saw you
in Miami at the Super Bowl.
Speaker 11 (21:54):
Yeah, on that topic, how do you feel about podcasts
for athletes?
Speaker 2 (21:59):
Well, you got to tell me something and you got
to be careful. Like Micah Parsons to me, is becoming
more for a podcaster and what he says than the
way he's playing, because Dallas hasn't been playing well and
he's a wonderful player. It's just you gotta be careful
if you're gonna do one, what are you saying while
you're still playing? And people aren't going to just tune in,
(22:20):
go ah, say Kwon Barkley's got a podcast. They want
to know what is different about your podcast? And that's
the that's the true challenge that I tell athletes or
former athletes, What are you telling me that I can't
get elsewhere? What are you doing that's different than anybody else?
That would be the challenge that I would have for you.
Have somebody on with you, but you got to say things.
(22:43):
You gotta have you gotta have content there and a
lot of people don't want to say anything. So that's
where I would caution you. If you go in and
do it, then do it and have a purpose, have
a game. I mean, it's no different than you. We
can week out have a game plan, but you gotta
have that game plan.
Speaker 3 (22:59):
You know.
Speaker 2 (23:00):
Draymond Green has done a pretty good job, but he
likes being a bad guy.
Speaker 5 (23:04):
He likes to being the villain. You know, are you
are you capable of like you're too likable?
Speaker 3 (23:09):
You know?
Speaker 5 (23:09):
Can you can you be a bad guy? Do you
want to be a villain? You know?
Speaker 2 (23:13):
Those are things that you have to embrace and and
that's really the big challenge I find for athletes.
Speaker 11 (23:19):
Yeah, I think I think more of a find a way.
It's like on a bye week or play a safe
play at Thursday night game in short week, trying to
get on television and then do stuff like that because
that's actually something I want to do. I've had a
passion for it ever since I got in the league.
But like you said, I think it's you have to
be able to, you know, have purpose behind it and
(23:40):
it's hard to balance, especially in the NFL, and you know,
you only have seventeen weeks, and when you're balling and
you're playing high, it's easy on that show and talk,
but you have an important drop in Monday night football
and everyone's saying he suck and you should go back
to New York. I do I do like the podcast
or athletes because I feel like it gives you a say,
(24:02):
especially during my whole conversation or the whole negotiation process
with New York, and there would be stories lead to
me and oh it's this number or that number.
Speaker 3 (24:12):
It gives you your voice. But I think I think
you hit it on you know, I think you hit
on that.
Speaker 2 (24:16):
But that's that's the right approach. But will would you
have been willing to come on after that loss, when
you drop the pass that next day and do a
podcast and be honest with people? Would you be honest
with you know, some of the hate that you got
from fans, the anger you got from fans. Now if
you do that, now you got some people's attention there.
(24:39):
But are you willing to do that to be that revealing?
Speaker 3 (24:42):
Yeah?
Speaker 11 (24:42):
I think it's it depends right, it's easier I feel
like when it's all on my back, because I can
go over there and talk about myself.
Speaker 3 (24:49):
But like you said, you know, when I'm working for
a brand and you know.
Speaker 11 (24:52):
Obviously we're here on behalf of Alpabee's kind of taking
you know, the spotlight away from them when you know
they've been doing this about a job for me and
putting me in a position. So when when it's on
your own self and you know it's I do it anyway,
I have twenty thousand cameras in my face saying how
do you feel about that drop?
Speaker 3 (25:10):
Isn't that the third? You know?
Speaker 11 (25:12):
So it's like I answered the question, and so I
feel like you have your voice there, But then you
also have your voice on your own platform. But it's
give and take and it's tough, and you know, I
think Micah, you know, obviously being a good friend of Micah,
you know, I think he's doing a great job. But
like I said, especially in that market, it definitely could
be you know, Dallas, Philly in New York, those probably
(25:34):
three you.
Speaker 2 (25:34):
Gotta win, You gotta win. I mean that that makes
it a whole lot easier. What bothered you about hard
knocks in how you were portrayed.
Speaker 3 (25:43):
To be honest, it really wasn't Hard Knocks.
Speaker 11 (25:46):
It was more of the year prior with negotiation, because
like you would get these you would get these numbers
that would come out and be like Saquon turn down this,
and Saquon turned all that, and like some of the
numbers would be correct, but like they would give you
some of the truth but not the whole truth, and
like just the truth to kind of spin it and
make a certain person look bad. And it's just like, well,
(26:06):
all right, if me and you are having this conversation,
right and we're talking numbers, and then it goes out
that this number was said and only me and you
had this conversation, and I'm not the one who said it.
Speaker 3 (26:17):
I know it definitely came from you.
Speaker 11 (26:19):
So for the Hard Knocks, say, I thought the Hard
Knocks was a cool, unique way to let fans in
because obviously it's always been about training camp, but let
fans in and see the off season and see how
it really like because I watched the episode three and
I think it was cool how they like they have
like the poker table and like they're like, Okay, this
is when you gotta do this. The spot get the
office a linement. It gives fan the opportunity to see
(26:42):
that have that perspective. But for me it was weird,
I guess because a lot of it was about me,
and like I was like, it felt like it was
just like, all right, my name was just getting used
because in reality it was like I had one phone
call with Joe, which was the phone call that was
on and my agent probably both to him a couple
of times. But like on this side, like in my life,
(27:04):
in reality it was like the giants really never were
actually in play the second time for me going to
negotiation of hitting the free agency when they.
Speaker 3 (27:11):
Could have been the whole time. So it was fun.
It was it was different, but I really think it
was cool for the fans for sure.
Speaker 5 (27:19):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (27:19):
I felt bad for you because I don't think you
knew that you were being taped, that this was on camera,
that you're kind of negotiating, and and then when did
you find out that they were going to put that
on Hard Knocks and you didn't even know that you
were being recorded?
Speaker 3 (27:34):
Yeah, I don't.
Speaker 11 (27:36):
I wasn't upset about that. Uh, you know, it's part
of business. Like I said, I didn't find out to
the trailer. I saw a trailer like The Hard Knocks
of the Giants, and I was like, oh, it's gonna
be pretty cool. And I looked at it, and you know,
I heard, uh, you know, the conversation of me. But
I wasn't really upset about it.
Speaker 3 (27:52):
Honestly.
Speaker 11 (27:52):
I reached out to to Joe and I was just like,
I wish you would have told me. I would have
put my active voice on. I would have you know,
I would have gave me. I would have gave a
tea be a TV answer and you know, you know,
made a little more fun, spiced up the show.
Speaker 3 (28:05):
A little bit more.
Speaker 11 (28:05):
But uh yeah, it's it's that that really didn't bother me.
Speaker 3 (28:10):
And I don't know when they.
Speaker 2 (28:11):
Told you sawin when they told you, hey, go out
and get another offer and then let us know.
Speaker 5 (28:16):
I'm like, who does that?
Speaker 2 (28:18):
Who says hey, you know, good luck out there, and
then but let us know, Hey, you're gonna let us know.
And I go, he's not gonna let you know. Once
he gets that offer, he's gone.
Speaker 5 (28:27):
You're not coming back.
Speaker 2 (28:27):
It's I give you say to your wife, hey, if
you find a better offer, go ahead. But you know,
I hope you come back to me.
Speaker 11 (28:33):
Hun, Hey, listen, you're you're you're talking way too largical
right now.
Speaker 3 (28:38):
A lot of people need it a little more like you.
Speaker 11 (28:40):
If I'll be honest, that conversation too. Uh, I had
a whole year, you know, he said. Joe said, it
took however many years off his life the negotiation process
the year before, but it probably took ten times more
on my life. But shout out to my agent to
be honest. Before the conversation, he was just like, just
keep a sh short and sweet. So I didn't overreact
(29:02):
to that. I just kind of, you know, I said
what I said, And you know, I still feel the
same way.
Speaker 3 (29:06):
About New York and the Giants organization.
Speaker 11 (29:08):
Got nothing but love for those guys and Miss maryor
family and Tish family.
Speaker 5 (29:12):
Yeah, you're just glad that you're in an Eagles uniform
instead of a Giant's uniform.
Speaker 3 (29:16):
I'm having a bless I'm blessed. I'm still in an NFL.
I'm loving it. Just some guys that would love me
in my position.
Speaker 2 (29:22):
He's Saquon Barkley joining us on behalf of Applebee's. They're
teaming up all season long to keep fans fueled. With
America's favorite boneless wings. Great to talk to you, good
luck and thanks for joining us.
Speaker 3 (29:33):
As always, always a pleasure man. Take care.
Speaker 2 (29:36):
Saquon Barkley Eagles running back, second overall pick twenty eighteen
by the Giants. Yeah, when I watched Hard Knocks and
I'm thinking, does Saquon know that he is being recorded?
And then he didn't know, And then Joe Shane the
GM is like, hey, go out there and see what
you can find, but let us know if you get
an offer, like that's not the way it works. Would
(30:00):
have led him out of the building because he's my
insurance policy for Danny Dimes. I have him. If I mean, okay,
you have Saquon, you have Daniel Jones, and you have
Malik Neighbors.
Speaker 5 (30:11):
Now you can compete and and and maybe they're going.
Speaker 2 (30:15):
To be a little bit better then at least I
thought they were going to be a little bit better
this year than last year. But if you have you're
ensuring that Daniel Jones will be a better quarterback because
you have a running back and a wide receiver. But
they doubled down and they extended his contract, and I
was like, I just don't get it.
Speaker 5 (30:32):
But what do I know about football?
Speaker 2 (30:35):
Let's take a break. We got our play of the

The way tire buying should be all right? Seaton Pole
question if you can by the way, Saquan has stayed
(32:04):
in touch when he was with the Giants. He had
talked to me a little bit at the Super Bowl.
Wanted my number to be able to talk about getting
into media. I think athletes nowadays think you just turn
on a microphone if you have a podcast. What are
you saying in the podcast? And I think that's the difference.
What are you willing to say? Can you come on
after a tough loss? Are you willing to be critical?
(32:28):
Micah Parsons is doing this pretty well. The problem is
he's not holding up his end of the bargain. As
a player. He could be a good podcaster. He's got content,
not a frag. You know, Travis Kelcey and Jason Kelcey.
That's unique because if you just put him together and
there's no Taylor Swift. Okay, it's probably a nice podcast,
a fun podcast with two brothers who are going to
(32:50):
be Hall of Famers. Kind of going back and forth
with each other. Now you throw in Taylor Swift. Now
you took it to another level. Who is the basketball
player seat? And that you talk about who wasn't a
great player? But he has got a great podcast?
Speaker 12 (33:03):
Whoa?
Speaker 5 (33:04):
WHOA.
Speaker 9 (33:04):
I think Jeff Tigue is going to disagree with you
calling him not a great player.
Speaker 5 (33:08):
But I don't think he was a great player. No,
I'm kidding you a properly start with you too.
Speaker 2 (33:12):
But he is willing to tell you things and he
makes it very interesting and got to sense the humor
as well, and that's what makes it unique, you know, seton.
Speaker 9 (33:23):
Yeah Club five twenty. It's Jeff Tigue and two of
his buddies, and the thing that makes it so great
they usually have a guest on too. Jeff Tigue is hilarious.
He's a great storyteller, and that's really what it is.
It's almost just it's him and his two friends and
a guest being like, man, remember that time we were
in Milwaukee and this happened, And that's what it is,
and it's great.
Speaker 5 (33:43):
It's it is so funny.
Speaker 2 (33:46):
You can tell when you're going to get something out of,
you know, interview a subject if they kind of make
it a casual conversation, normal conversation. A lot of athletes, coaches,
they don't want to say anything. They're they're kind of
that's how they're positioned. Go into a press conference, don't
say anything. Well, if you're going to be on, you know,
(34:07):
doing a show, you're going to have your own show.
Now you've got to create content. What are you willing
to say? And can you say something and live with
the repercussion. Draymond Green can live with the repercussions. But
he's going to play maybe one more year and then
he's done and you'll go to TNT or ESPN.
Speaker 5 (34:25):
He's ready to go. But he's embraced this a long
time ago.
Speaker 2 (34:29):
And not many athletes are willing to do that because, look,
there are a lot of a lot of critics out there.
Everybody's an expert and they're going to come after you.
And if he had dropped that, when he dropped that ball,
let's say his podcast was going to be the next day, Well,
you got to be honest about that. You got to
you got to tell me something. And stories are what
(34:50):
separates athletes from kind of going through the motions to wow,
that's what's fun. Like Reggie Miller comes on and Reggie
tells you things, and he'll have us story and he'll
give you his side of the fight with Michael Jordan.
Now he's not playing anymore. Barkley comes on, He'll tell
you a story, but he's not playing anymore. The athlete
who comes on and says, oh, you know what that
(35:11):
reminds me when I hear that, Oh, I got a story,
Then I go, okay, now we're doing it. Now it's
a conversation, not an interview. And Saquon at the end
it became a conversation. It wasn't an interview, and that's
what my goal was.
Speaker 8 (35:26):
Yeah, Pauline, Yeah, and some of these athletes podcasts they
do well financially. It's great exposure. Like Jeff Tigue was
not a household name, but look at JJ Reddick, the
old man in the three podcast. It showed off his
analytical skills and I don't think he gets any whiff
of the Lakers job if he doesn't do that podcast clearly.
Speaker 2 (35:45):
Well with Lebron too, So that helps that you're right
there next to the guy that you're going to be
coaching eventually. Mike and Arizona. Hi, Mike, what's on your
mind today?
Speaker 3 (35:55):
Hery?
Speaker 12 (35:55):
What up?
Speaker 3 (35:56):
BP?
Speaker 12 (35:57):
Great interview with Sekon Sparkley. I'm gonna take yeah sent
captain obvious here, but he's one of the most likable
athletes I think out there, and along with another person
you just mentioned with the same last name, Charles Barkley.
But that was a great interview. I have a question
(36:18):
about the Packers. Malik Willis has played pretty well. They
had a good game plan for him, and I know
they paid a ton of money for you know, the
terry time from Jory Love Good.
Speaker 2 (36:34):
Do they No, they're not going to make a change.
They're they're they're in it with Jordan Love. Jordan Loves
a better quarterback. Malik Willis is going to make himself
some money and maybe get another opportunity. But now that's
hold on, you don't go we're gonna spend all this
money on you.
Speaker 5 (36:50):
Colly, did you see Malik Willis?
Speaker 2 (36:52):
Like if you're if you think Malik Willis can be
really good, then you wouldn't sign Jordan Love to a
long term deal.
Speaker 5 (36:58):
That's let's I confuse the two. The Titans moved on
from him.
Speaker 8 (37:03):
Yes, the best thing that can happen to Malik Willis.
Is he doesn't play another snap this year too. Yes,
it's a nice contracts a high end backup.
Speaker 2 (37:12):
Who was the backup quarterback who had the great game
against Detroit then got signed by Seattle. Oh, Matt, Matt Flynn.
Matt Flynn. Yeah, it's like he had one really great
game through for like four hundred yards and this, you know,
Seattle goes, hey, we're gonna sign you, and then he
doesn't play because they draft Russell Wilson Junior the third Uh.
(37:36):
Few more, few more phone calls Andrew and Washington. I Andrew,
what's on your mind?
Speaker 13 (37:41):
Gourd in morning, Dan Daniz, thanks for taking my call.
You know, I think it's just time to decide whether
or not Trevor Lawrence is going to be a full time,
you know, starting QB. Or is he going to be
the next Baker Mayfield or Sam Darnold that kind of
needs the second start somewhere.
Speaker 2 (37:56):
But but Andrew that the decision was made. They signed
him to a contract extension. That's when they made their decision.
Speaker 14 (38:05):
Well, they made a decision that he has the most
turnovers since twenty twenty one, sixty one and his receivers
have the most dropped passes since twenty twenty one. They're
the receivers, but it's also where and how the ball
is thrown to them as well.
Speaker 2 (38:18):
So okay, then Madeland Hurts has had more turnovers than
any quarterback. What the last two years they gave him
a contract extension.
Speaker 5 (38:27):
I don't know.
Speaker 2 (38:28):
I mean, these owners, they move quicker than they should,
sooner than they should. I'd like to have seen another
year from Trevor Lawrence. I'm not sold on Jalen Hurts
being a franchise quarterback. Kyler Murray. They jumped in early
with him at that position. I don't get it. But
thanks for the phone call. Yeah, you know, guys drop passes,
(38:50):
I get it, turnovers, but they're signing them up to
these long term deals. Jordan love Is, he's your quarterback
in Green Bay. Leak Willis maybe maybe gets an opportunity
some other place. Stay calm here, stay calm. It's nice
to have a good backup. I mentioned yesterday, what if
the Dolphins reached down to the Steelers and said, we'll
(39:13):
take Russell Wilson off.
Speaker 5 (39:14):
Your hand, hands and uh.
Speaker 2 (39:17):
Chefty put out he could see maybe the Dolphins reaching
out to Denver for Zach Wilson.
Speaker 5 (39:26):
Hmmh.
Speaker 2 (39:29):
I I'd rather have Russell Wilson than Zach Wilson. No relation,
but check it checking, check, yeah, check on that. But
I I don't I don't see. I don't know if
the Steelers would give up Uh, Russell Wilson, what Martin?
Speaker 10 (39:46):
So they're not related, all right, we don't know that.
Speaker 5 (39:49):
We don't know that.
Speaker 8 (39:50):
I don't think they are early what I learned as journalists. Yeah, checking, I'd.
Speaker 10 (39:54):
Rather have mister Wilson from Dennis to menace, Zach.
Speaker 2 (39:56):
Wilson Dennis the menace here. That might be the first
ever on the show. See, I apologize. I don't know
if we had a pull question. I don't know if
we were able to discuss it, if you gave me
an update.
Speaker 5 (40:10):
I don't know. This hour first hour just flew by.
Ye it did it? Sure did? Dan? We have up there.
Speaker 9 (40:15):
I would start my football team with Jalen Hurst, Justin Herbert,
Joe Burrow or Jaden Daniels. Right now, there's a little
bit of an overreaction to last night. Joe Burrow is
still first at forty five percent. Jaden Daniels has thirty
two percent of the vote. Okay, do you want to
guess who's last between Justin Herbert and Jalen Hurts. Jalen
(40:37):
Hurts just seven and a half percent of the vote.
Speaker 5 (40:42):
Had Justin Herbert's banged up? Who knows?
Speaker 2 (40:44):
They got Kansas City coming up? We have RG three
coming up. He was on the call last night with
the commanders. What did he think of? Jayden Daniels One
hour of the Books, two more to go in this
Tuesday Dan and The Danitch dan Patrick Show.
